Canadian Immigration Summary
A brief summary
This book is written from an economic perspective by three economic professors emeritus at
Queen s university. The purpose of the book is to inform readers of political science, public
policy, governmental agency, and immigration studies about the changes in immigration policies. It
also gives some ideas on how to improve policies geared specifically towards the skilled worker s
immigration category. According to the authors, it acts as a statistic reference for professors and
researchers. It is likewise a great source for people that are interested in social studies. In this book,
authors discuss mainly the development of Canadian Immigration policy, the history of this
complicated immigration process and some major changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is a major change that is affecting the current economic immigration policy and the Canadian
labor market. Ever since the authors noticed that FSWP is playing a smaller role as immigration
policy became more responsive to the short term need of Canadian employers. They declare that
this is tragic to the durable development of our society because it only satisfies the short term
need in the job market. As for me, even though it is understandable in having temporary workers
can be a quick solution to the labor market shortage. At the same time, it can also solve the
problem of the long delays of FSWP. However, it creates two different treatments towards
immigrants and temporary workers in the long run. Consequently, it will affect local Canadians
greatly by having double standards. Therefore, I believe our top priority should be focused on how
to balance the current and temporary needs of the labor market from the periodical workers and the
long term demands of the higher qualified

C. I. L. T s Influenced My Life
For the past six years that I have attended Camp Sea Gull, I have always seen my counselors and
C.I.L.T.s as role models for myself. The impact that they have made on me has been very large, as
they have taught me numerous life skills throughout the years. It is because of this impact that my
past counselors and C.I.L.T.s have had on me that makes me want to be a C.I.L.T., and possibly a
counselor in the future, as I want to influence others lives in the same way that mine has because
of camp. The majority of my experience with kids comes from my time working with my little
brothers at camp, which includes me taking them out on sailboats and motorboats, as well as taking
them with me to help them get their alfa. I also spent a lot time helping

The Environmental Lobby and Voting Trends in the United States
The environmental movement in the United States has typically focused its resources on public
education, legislative lobbying and litigation. However, the movement s success in the latter two is
highly dependent on the quality and character of elected officials. Successful public education on
behalf of the environment translates into greater environmentalist electoral success.
This paper discusses national trends that impact and influence the environmental lobby s ability to
achieve favorable electoral results, and the manner in which the lobby has responded to those
trends. Overall, the American public is receptive to environmentalism, but the political realm is ...

From 1988 to 1992 40 50% of strong Republicans supported increased federal spending on the
environment, while the vast majority of the remaining strong Republicans supported the status quo.
After 1994, independent leaning Republicans and weak Republicans increased their support for
decreased environmental spending by roughly 10 percentage points each, bringing each group to 12
13% support for decreased spending. Strong Republicans, however, moved from about 2 8% to
roughly 23% support for decreased environmental spending. Again, these changes indicate the
highly partisan nature of support for decreased environmental spending. The Republican Revolution
of 1994 brought a much more Conservative flavor to the Republican Party. Strong Republicans
would be more likely to toe the party line on issues like environmental spending, and post 1994, the
Republican Party line was arguably more anti environmentalist. This willingness among strong
Republicans to carry the party line on environmental issues may be partly responsible for the
widening gap between some groups of traditional Republicans.
Republicans showed their strongest support for environmental spending in 1988, the year after
President Reagan signed the Montreal Protocol. Here again, a sign that strong Republicans may be
following party cues more than individual preferences on environmental issues. The nation as a
whole was more supportive of environmental spending in 1988 than in most years, but even strong

Copper Essay
Weil 1
Copper is one of the earliest elements known to man. Because of its distinct red color, Copper is
very easily identified. In the ancient times, copper could be found lying in the ground in its
unattached state without interaction to other substances. Copper and its compounds have many
uses in today s society.
Copper has many chemical properties that make it unique. The Atomic number of copper is 29. An
Atomic number is a measure of the amount of protons in the nucleus of an atom. Protons are sub
atomic particles, which have a positive charge. The Atomic mass of copper is 63.546. The Atomic

Copper does not rust and when in water, it turns reddish orange. After prolonged exposure, Copper
develops a coat of green film called patina. This film protects it against further exposure. Also,
rolled Copper has a tensile strength from 50,000 to 70,000 pounds per square inch. Tensile strength
is the maximum strength a material can stand before breaking.
Early uses of the element include jewelry, weapons, and tools. The element was first used
around 9000 b.c.e. and was found in northern Iraq. Copper was first used by Native Americans
around 2500 b.c.e. One of the first skills that the ancient coppersmith must have learned how to
do was shape the metal, possibly by heating. This element was first used to its full potential when
Coppersmiths began to use tin with copper to make an alloy called bronze. An alloy is a mixture
of two or more metals with properties differs from those of the individual metal. The alloy was
first discovered as early as 4000 b.c.e. Bronze was used similar to copper due to the many variety
of tools, weapons, and jewelry that are created from the alloy. It differs from copper in the way that
with tin added, the alloy is a better conductor and easier to shape than the metal alone. Copper was
used as the primary metal of the world to around 3000 b.c.e when society discovered iron. Many
copper compounds are used in today s agricultural, medical, and pest control jobs. Copper Acetate

The Day Of The Group Members
During the course of the semester our group members had very busy schedules which made
meeting challenging. We primarily connected through text messages, email, and short meetings
after class. Albeit meeting was difficult, our communication throughout the semester worked out
well. To accomplish our tasks each member of our group would take a section of the paper and
contribute their ideas. Having more meetings in person would have given us a better advantage on
the tasks, but due to member s schedules, we had to make do with the timewe had. Our group could
have improved on our event to hand out pamphlets by getting more volunteers to assist in
passing them out, as well as go for a longer period of time. Again with class schedules and work,
the entire group was not able to participate. We could have also benefited by adding something to
get people s attention, possibly posters and signs. The day of our group s event we all wore
purple to represent Lupus while passing out information, but doing something unusual along
with that, may have prompted more questions and interest in the message we were trying to
pass. Although you can look back and see what we could have improved on, I think that we still
were able to meet our persuasive goal by making our classmates aware of Lupus and we were
able to reach a good number of students across campus as well. Though this was not on the scale
we had hoped for it still was a step in the right direction in educating more on Lupus. To

Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller Essay
Death of A Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, is a play based on the turmoil within an average
American family. Miller wrote Death of A Salesman easily showcasing the elements of drama. I
was easily able to follow the plot, identify with his characters, and picture the setting.
The main theme of the plot seemed to be Willy reaching for the American Dream . Financial success
, business success, outwardly perfect family, revered by your peers, and in general respected by all.
Early on in the play two things are evident to the reader; Willy s questionable mental status, and his
tumultuous relationship with his sons.
Willy is apparently suffering from some sort of mental or emotional issues. These issues are causing

Happy mislead is family into thinking his job position was higher than is actually was, and Biff
could not settle down and stick with a job.
Willy s fear of change and evolvement is evident in his resentment of the apartments and in his
reaction to the recorder of Mr. Wagner s. He is also unable to come to terms with his own
advancing years as a salesman. He only goes to Mr. Wagner to ask for a job strictly in New York
when Linda insists. What he sees as valuable experience others see as obsolete. Willy longs for the
days when the boys revered him and they were pals.
Scott Foll states the driving point of plot is conflict (1182). This play definitely has the ultimate
conflict. That is simply, family. Conflict with Willy and Biff, Willy with himself, and Linda with
her sons. For me the turning climactic point is when while talking with Ben, Willy believes he can
regain what he lost years ago with Biff by ending his life. He thinks the twenty thousand from the
insurance money will fix it all. I suppose the resolution in this play was Willy s death. Although I
do not imagine this could truly be resolution for the remaining family.
Characterization seemed to be the most well developed element of the play. The patriarch of the
family, Willy Loman was portrayed as the tragic hero. I believe his character did indeed possess
some character flaws that inevitably led to his death. However, I agree with

Tragic Poetic In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Aristotle was a famous disciple of Plato who first defines fine arts and he differs with his teacher
Plato in his book of Poetic. His Poetic deals with the principles of Poetic art in general and tragedy
in particular on the basis of his analysis and the principles of his Poetic are Probability, Catharsis,
Mimesis, Tragic Hero and Hamartia. This essay will explain tragedylooking through Aristotle s

mentioned the concept of Probability which simply explains the probability that a given character
will react to a given situation is very high because of human nature. For instance in the book,
Things fall Apart deals with the tragic human consequences of the collusion of the Africa and
Europe culture in Nigeria. Protagonist of the novel, Oknokwo has tragic characters and he was

Police academy had been getting more brutal over the course of the year, the tests getting more

Who Is Cool Hand Luke As A Christ Figure
Luke as a Christ Figure In literature, it s not uncommon for authors to create a character who
parallels Christ himself. In Cool Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, starring Paul Newman,
George Kennedy, Strother Martin, and J.D. Cannon, the protagonist Luke is shown as a Christ
figure. The film begins with Luke being arrested on account of being intoxicated and vandalizing
parking meters. He s taken to a prison in the South where his non conformist ideals automatically
disagree with the strict rules and authority. While serving his two year sentence working in a chain
gang, Luke manages to gain the respect of the other prisoners. He s given the nickname Cool Hand
Lukeafter he wins a card game from convincing the men he has valuable cards, even though he
really has nothing. After the death of his mom, Luke goes against authority and makes his first
attempt at escaping. He s brought back, however, and shortly after the audience is able to see his

Throughout Cool Hand Luke, Luke is shown to be a non conformist. When sent to prison, Luke
is placed in an isolated environment with strict rules, guards, and regimentation and his fiercely
individualistic spirit immediately clashes ( Cool Hand Luke (1967). ). Luke s non conformist
attitude is what drives him to escape so many times he s a rebel at heart, and refuses to adapt to
the prison environment. Luke not only rebels against big things such as prison authority, but
small, insignificant things as well. Even Luke s eating habits are distinctively non conformist he
takes a bite and leaves the spoon sticking out of his mouth ( Cool Hand Luke (1967). ). No matter
what he s doing, even if it s something as simple as eating, Luke finds a way to rebel against it.
This character trait of Luke s proves the Christ figure archetype because of his refusal to conform,
and his tendency to go against what he s supposed to be

Essay On Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, Germany in 1685, as the youngest of eight
children. Bach was a product of one of the greatest musical family s, and would become one of
the most influenceial composers of all time. Bach lived in the heart of the reformation era and
believe that all music should be to the glory of God and for the recreation of the mind. His father
was a great trumpeter/violinist; his brothers were organists and keyboarders, to which Bach drew
most of his influence and education. Bach was a member of the Lutheran faith and a great fan of
the works and beliefs of Martin Luther. Bach tried to give depth and color to church music as he
successfully added dimension to God s word. With the death of his mom in 1694 and his dad one
year later in 1695, Johann Sebastian Bachfound himself alone and abandoned at the age of ten.

In his compositions he gave no mind to breaks or regular breathing intervals for vocalists,
demanding only the best from everyone always. His largest and most celebrated work, Mass in

lifetime. Bach was able to use the best melodies and vocal standards from both secular and
sacred music to create masterful works all for the glory of God. Although blind in the last two years
of his life he was still able to compose and did so right up until his death in 1750. His last fugue
was filled with all of the greatest parts of his style but seems to end abruptly just as his life did.

IIi.features Of A Smart Grid
III .FEATURES OF A SMART GRID
Reliability
The smart grid uses technology to self locate faults so their rectification is fast and sound. This self
healing property of smart grid makes it more reliable than the conventional grid. Main technology
used here is state estimation. Multiple routes are used in a smart grid which were used in the old
grid as well. But mostly they were radial in nature so that any failure can cause total failure of the
system and the current would be shunted to other elements.
Flexibility in network topology
Next generation grid technology would be far more flexible in transferring two way energy by
allowing for distributed generation from solar cells, fuel cells , electric vehicles, wind turbines .
Classic one way distribution is not that flexible to cater to problems when load is higher than the
generating end . By using smarter grid this is possible.
Efficiency
Numerous contributions to overall improvement of the efficiency of energy infrastructure are
anticipated from the deployment of smart grid technology, in particular including demand side
management, for example turning off air conditioners during short term spikes in electricity price,
reducing the voltage when possible on distribution lines through Voltage/VAR Optimization (VVO),
eliminating truck rolls for meter reading, and reducing truck rolls by improved outage management
using data from Advanced Metering Infrastructure systems. The overall effect is less redundancy in
transmission

consequence is that Wes didn t going to treat his brother the same as any other criminal that he d

The Factors Of Proto-Industrialisation
It is known by many that Britain was the first state to industrialise. Proto Industrialisation was
characterised by certain factors in the 18th century in the correct combination and this gave Britain
the comparative advantage to industrialise when they did. Setting them ahead in their development
before the rest of the world. Mendels (1972), stated simply that Proto industrialisation was the first
phase in the industrialisation process, and that is exactly what is was. It was the phase in which the
preconditions to allow industrialisation to occur were set up. Why after many centuries was Britain
suddenly able to Industrialise before other nations?

crops and goods for sale on the international market rather than for their own consumption. Peasants
had to accumulate money to trade within the town centres because they could no longer produce
all of their own goods. The development of town centres is another way in which we see a shift
towards capitalism. Goods were being sold to make a profit and not only to sustain a

Moderation is a trait that could mean to be self controlled, or to do certain activities gradually

exercising and eating. If a person exercises excessively then they are showing an unhealthy

destructive to the body. Now conducting oneself moderately can bring a person joy because they
will not feel obligated to follow a strict routine. Samuel Sattin s The Joy of Exercising in

Literary Analysis Of The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock...
A Literary Analysis of T.S. Eliot s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock T.S. Eliot was one
among few poets and authors that dominated the years between the First and Second World Wars.
Eliot showed his use of modernism techniques through The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock ,
creating a powerful reputation around the world, particularly as a member of The Lost Generation
in the 1920s. Eliot moved to and settled in London where he worked with famous poets including
Ezra Pound, and published his first collection of poems (McMichael 1358). The Love Song of J.
Alfred Prufrockis a famous work that was almost a mockery of the romance driven main character
of the story, as it represented the indecisiveness of a personality and the superiority of an anti
romanticism ideal. The poem begins with lines 61 66 of Inferno, Canto XXVII, inviting the
reader to gain a sense of how exactly the character in the poem, J. Alfred Prufrock, as given by
the title, might behave as did Guido de Montefeltro in Inferno. Guido de Montefeltro can be
determined to be a character who is in fear of the tarnishing of his reputation from the translation
of the given lines, If I thought my reply were to one who could ever return to the world, this
flame would shake no more; but since, if what I hear is true, none ever did return alive from this
depth, I answer you without fear of infamy. (qtd. in McMichael 1359). The last line, I answer you

Sleep Apne An Essential Part Of Everyday Life Essay
Introduction and Pertinent Anatomy and Physiology: Sleep is an essential part of everyday
life. It is one of several components which help keep us alive. However, a significant percentage
of the human population has difficulty reaching and maintaining Stage IV within their sleeping
patterns, the stage that allows the mind and body to fall into a deep and restorative sleep,
known as REM sleep. This is a condition known as obstructive sleep apnea, a serious, potentially
life threatening condition that is far more common than generally understood (Sleep Apnea
n.d.). Obstructive sleep apnea can be very dangerous if it is not properly detected and treated.
Nearly 18 billion Americans today (or 1 out of every 5) have a form of sleep apnea. About 4% of
people are undiagnosed (or 1 out of 50). It can occur in all age groups and different sexes. (Sleep
Apnea n.d.) What is Sleep Apnea? Apnea means without breathing. In many cases apnea is
caused by tissue in the back of one s throat that collapses. Sleep apnea is an involuntary cession
of breathing that occurs during sleep. We have four stages of sleep and the fifth being your REM
sleep also know as rapid eye movement. In short stage 1(one) is considered light sleep, stage 2
(two) eye movement stops and the brain waves become slower, in stage 3 (three) brain waves still
continue to become slower and considered deep sleep, stage 4 (four) also is called the deep sleep

The Gressing Aspects Of Stressors In The Police Force
Police work is considered one of the most stressful and taxing occupations of today s society. The
duties and responsibilities of policemen and women are put into place in order to keep the
community and its inhabitants as safe and organized as possible. With that, police officers are
required to work grueling hours, deal with noncompliance among individuals, and respond to
potentially very dangerous incidents everyday. The frequent exposure to these high stress events
causes a numerous amount of policeofficers to develop a weakened mental status as well as
impaired physical distress. As a result, the mental and or physical traumas these men and women
are experiencing may affect their ability to perform in the field. In order to ensure the safety of both
the community and these police officers, it is essential for one to analyze and acknowledge the
stressors causing these impairments. Recognizing these stressors, as well as the positive and
negative coping mechanisms that come with them, may help to minimize and avoid the mental and
physical pressures that are currently happening in the police force.
There are specific stressors in which contribute to the mental and physical fatigue that police
officers endure. Typically these stressors can be grouped into two clusters: stress associated with
critical incidents and stress within the organization of the police force itself ( ). The first cluster,
stress associated with critical incidents, focuses primarily on the job content

Body paragraph
1.What it could do to our health and why you feel sluggish
a)Fast food affects everyone who eats it rather you know it or not. All fast food is bad for you, even
down to a simple salads that you eat, because after you add all the dressings and the pop to it even
if its diet pop it drives up your sodium, sugar and calories levels. People don t think about how the
food is process and how this process give the food its taste and all the calories that go with it. (As
the old saying goes: You are what you eat.)(pg). I have found even after eating from a fast food
restaurant I feeling tried, sluggish, and lazy because the food was so heavy in fat and
carbohydrates. (That is one of the main reasons people buy fast food; it has been carefully
designed to taste good.)(pg) Fast food has so many health concerns, if you eat fast food daily you

Megadeth Research Paper
Megadeth in concert Megadeth is one of the largest of all time metal bands and has had major
influences in its genre. When the chance came to see them in concert was it was just to irresistible
to pass up. Megadeth was on tour with their new album Dystopia accompanied by bands Amon
Amarth, Metal Church, Suicidal Tendenciesand Butcher Babies. An impressive line up with all
bands having attained some form of success or another in their respected fields. These bands all
under one roof made the promise of a very entertaining and varied show.

With bands like Metal Church and Suicidal Tendencies, although different genres of music, they
show that with very little lighting and pyrotechnics if the band is so powerful the music alone will
be enough to capture the audience. Amon Amarth were perfect showmen and experts at pulling the
crowd in and reviving them up making theirs one of the most entertaining in my opinion. Megadeth
was such an incredible show and really a small dream come true it is hard to say anything bad
about them. Although I guess you could say that Megadeth s show was a prime example of what
many years in the industry teaches. Butcher Babies show was unfortunate and compared to the

that is operational for development based in Bambui, Cameroon. Bambui is a rural community in
the North West region of Cameroon that is undergoing rapid population growth. The population
growth is increasing the pressure on the existing water supply, sanitation, waste management and
housing facilities available. The purpose of this report is to work cooperatively with EWB and
the community of Bambui in establishing a clean and quality water supply system. The report
will cover the essential problems of water quality and water supply in Bambui in common terms
as well as develop a design criteria. By forming a template of three to five measurable design
requirements and testing a minimum of two design option against these requirements we will be
able to make the most effective recommendation based on our findings. Problem Definition Water
supply is the primary problem in Bambui, as currently Bambui lacks in adequate large storages of
clean water. The main source of water in Bambui come from a set of twelve springs and one stream
that flow into the Tubah watershed. However there are many factors that

The proportion of 18 22year olds attending Chinese universities last year was 15 per cent
compared to 7 per cent in 1995. Stronger economic growth has been outstripped by the growth in
higher education. It is generally expected that competition for entry level white collar jobs will
become much fiercer. Unfortunately, fewer than 10 per cent of graduates in China have the skills
to work for a foreign company and there are continuing, not to say growing, shortages of both mid
level and senior level managers. In the past, many multinationals relied on expatriate managers to
oversee their China operations. The current trends show an increased localisation of staff. Forty per
cent of foreign companies have trouble filling mid level and high level positions in China. Adding
to the problem for MNCs has been the entrance of local Chinese firms to the market, often referred
to as the ``reverse brain drain . In ten years, China will need 75,000 managers with international
experience. Currently, it has only about 5,000 with such talent. The management talent in China is
mainly first generation. The challenge of attracting and especially retaining management talent in
China is rising. The average tenure of mid and high level executives in China is eight to 12 months.

The Marble Champ
Never give up. Always keep going. Try hard. Practice makes perfect. The Marble Champ by
Gary Soto is a great story. A girl named Lupe is not good at sports but she finds something
athletic that she could be good at. She found marbles. She practiced until she got so good, she
won the marbles championship. For this matter, I think a possible theme in this story is to never
give, just like Lupe did. A couple reasons why, are because she practices, perseveres, and always
gives 100% effort.
To begin, one reason why a possible theme could be to never give up is Lupe practices. At the
beginning of the story Lupe did fingertip pushups. She did 20 of them in sets of five, so every so
often she could take a break. This seems like a lot to ask from someone who isn t that strong.
She also squeezed a eraser for a long time. From doing this she got so good she beat Alfonso.
Alfonso was a neighborhood kid who was really good at marbles, but Lupe got so good she beat
him! In the story it says, Man, she s bad! Alfonso said. She can beat the other girls for sure. I
think. This was right after Lupe beat Alfonso, and he was one of the best at marbles. Another
reason is Lupe only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Persevere means to keep trying even if you have failed. One example, is that even in marbles
when Lupe missed a shot she didn t let it get her, and make her quit, this shows that she wants to

wouldn t be good at something athletic. She tried. In the story it says, She could not catch a pop
up figure in which direction to kick the soccer ball. Instead, she at least put in effort to try and get
good at something athletic. Finally, In the marble championship Lupe was going up against a girl
that looked tough, but Lupe didn t turn around and walk away. She faced the girl. Lupe shoes a

When Memories And Events Become Institutionalized In A
When memories and events become institutionalized in a museum setting, they become the lens
through which present and future generations gaze into past. National museums promote local
history and identity, but what about multinational museums and multinational identity? This is the
question the European Union hopes to address with their sanctioning of the House of European
History (HEH). The main goal of the HEH is to create a collection of permanent and temporary
exhibitions to invite people into a space where the concept of the European idea can continue to
grow and the knowledge and dissemination of the culture and history of the European peoples can
be improved (Committee of Experts, 2008, p.5). However, because the HEH is funded... Show more

The conceptual basis is divided into four parts with 116 points in total: forward, conceptual and
museological basis, central topics of the permanent exhibition, and outlook. In the very first point,
it is outlined that the museum should be a place where a memory of European history and the
work of European unification is jointly cultivated (Committee of Experts, 2008, p.3). Some of the
main themes that the museum is supposed to represent include the diversity of history and a
commonality of roots, peace, liberty, and a willingness to live together, as well as the idea of
progress and keeping the idea of Europe alive. In the second section, it talks about the academic
goals of the museum and the way it should be set up in order to be accessible to a variety of
people, such as free admission and explanatory texts in multiple languages (twenty four to be
precise) (Committee of Experts, 2008). The HEH is meant to be an independent institution that
provides education to the young people of Europe in order for them to become active citizens in
shaping the EU s future. Points 27 112 explain the central topics of the exhibitions that will be in
the museum, but do not go into detail regarding the artifacts and objects they will represent these
topics with. After this initial Conceptual Basis, another draft was written in 2013 with a small
amount of changes. Although the museum was first set to open in 2015, it was then pushed to

Norman Mailer s The Fight fits a mold of story telling described by Jerome Bruner, but not in the
ways expected. The characters are more than just characters and the plot fits more a mode of
telling than an actual plot. Considering Bruner s features of narrative that he describes in The
Narrative Construction of Reality , through an illustration of canonicity and breach, the
protagonist of The Fight is the The Rumble in the Jungle itself, while the antagonist of the story
is the breach of the fight. Canonicity and breach, as explained by Bruner, is the breach of a
canonical script. This breach breaks the norms or standards of what is expected. A tale must
break the normal state to be worth telling and hold value in daily living. A breach must differ
from the norm, but the method of defying this norm is up to the teller. The canonicity of the story
is the fight itself. Canonicity would be the desired outcome, without any changes or obstructions.
The fight in its simplest form was what Don King staged. He wanted to see the better fighter,
former heavyweight versus current heavyweight. This is the protagonist of the story. People
wanted to know who was the better fighter, and also wanted to see a good fight. King wanted to
promote professional boxing. At its simplest form, this is what the viewer or reader desires, so The
Rumble in the Jungle is the canon and protagonist of the story. The breech in the story is the
obstructions put on the fight. One of the largest of

Malcom X And The Allegory Of The Cave
Education is a life altering event that involves becoming more open minded. When one s horizons
are expanded they begin to understand and view more. The process of becoming knowledgeable
through education can differ from the individual or situation. The overall experience as well can
change the perception. Two passages, Learning to Read by Malcom X and The Allegory of the
Cave by Plato both contain an individualwho goes through the path of gaining wisdom. Although
both passages contain similarities involving one going through an experience resulting in the
enlightenment of education, there are several differences in how the acknowledgement is
approached and the type of predicament the individual is in. The situation before the awakening in
both passages involves being imprisoned and living in the mindset of ignorance. Each predicament
of one has a huge influence on how the wisdom is obtained. The prisoner in The Allegory of the
Cave has lived inside the cave since early childhood where his legs and feet were chained to
prevent any kind of movement and from turning his head. (Plato 1). Because the cave dweller was
restrained from movement, he was unable to escape ignorance and was not able to gain knowledge.
Malcom X as well was illiterate because African Americans at that time were not exposed to
education. The black race in America was living in deafness, dumbness, and blindness (Malcom X
1). In order to liberate ignorance and to begin the journey of

romantic comedies and as such often have plots centered around male and female interaction.
Screwball comedy originated during the great depression, during this time period many people
where hard on their luck and that could have been one of the factors that lead to screwball comedy
generally depicting escapism. In Sullivan s travels we see escapism some during the first half of
the movie with the main character trying to make a movie about the hard times people are going

Self Discovery in American Beauty and Hermann Hesse s Demian
After Jane Burnham s first meeting with Ricky Fitts in American Beauty she responds by

Jane s dream? If it is Jane s dream, is this her unconscious wish for pleasure or happiness...to be
like Ricky Fitts? There seems to be a theme running through the movie American Beauty where we
see people looking to other people as a source to receive their own sense of confidence, or
ultimately, happiness. This is also evident in Demian by Hermann Hesse when we see Emil
Sinclair seeking out Max Demian. This paper will serve as a means to compare two similar works
of art that both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The description of Max Demian given by Emil Sinclair is right on with that of Ricky Fitts: He
seemed too superior and detached, his manner too provocatively confident...I can only say that he
was in every respect different from all the others, was entirely himself, with a personality all his
own which made him noticeable even though he did his best not to be noticed... (Hesse 27). This
quality is seen by Lester Burnham with his first encounter with Ricky Fitts when they are smoking
marijuana. Ricky s catering boss comes outside and catches him not working and remarks, I m
not paying you to do whatever it is you are doing out here. Ricky replies spontaneously without
any hesitation, Fine, don t pay me. I quit so you don t have to pay me. So, leave me alone. Lester
turns to Ricky and says, I think you just became my personal hero! Lester is never the same again.
A growing sense of confidence is a theme found in American Beauty and Demian. After hanging
out with Max Demian, Emil gains the confidence to tell Franz Kromer he will not bring his
sister for him to meet and also tells his mother that he stole money from her piggy bank. In
American Beauty, we see Lester Burnham slowly open up and he begins to speak his mind,
instead of being afraid and keeping his mouth shut. An example of this is when he has a dispute
with his wife Carol about their sexual frustrations. He says: This hasn t been a marriage for years,

An ascribed status, on the other hand, is one that beyond an individual s control. It is not earned,
but rather something people are either born with or had no control over. Examples of ascribed
status include sex and race. Children usually have more ascribed statuses than adults since they do
not usually have a choice in most matters. A family social statusor socioeconomic status, for
instance, would be an achieved status for adults, but an ascribed status for children.
Homelessness might also be another example. For adults, homelessness usually comes by way
of achieving, or rather not achieving, something. For children, however, homelessness is not
something they have any control over. They become as such by default of their parents actions.

sensuous, three dimensional, thought provoking, and macabre (Touch, p 100). The combination of

Compare Feudalism And Manorialism
The Feudal system was developed to bring a sense of security and economic stability to medieval
Europe as the same goes to the manor system. Although by some definitions they appear to be very
alike, but there are a lot more differentiations than most assume. Feudalism and manorialism would
have characterize most of the European Middle Age. Feudalisminvolves the relationship between
landlords and upper the classes. And as Manorialism is the relationship between serf and landlord.
When describing a (one) lord, it refers to manorialism. When describing an entire middle age
society, it refers to the term feudalism.

In every organisation we have an informal organisation called grapevine , however it is an informal

Motivation Is Life
Motivation is continuity for life. While there are many difficulties in life they can be overcome.
Motivation is our value of life. There is not a single person with ought the ability to motivated,
unless they are dead.
Moving on in life is easier with motivation. In an article by Chris Jones Roger Ebert fought through
cancer and had motivation to live. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our
circumstances. We must try . (Jones 34) Roger Ebert was a fighter of cancer who was motivated
not to give up even on his deathbed and had lived to see another day. Steve Jobs was another
survivor of cancer in his article he learned to live and appreciated seeing another day I had the
surgery and I m fine now . (Job21) Jobs once went awry, but after his recovery he saw life
differently and I hope it s the closets I get for a few more decades . The families who lost loved
one during the September 11 attacks, in an article by Amanda Ripley, wanted to move on after
receiving what they felt they deserved. I feel like I am entitled to something . (Ripley13) Those
families were motivated to receive the funding that their family member was worth in order to
move on with their lives. Each one of these people with the help of motivation was inspired to
move on, given that they had the right amount of time to do it.
Yet, the exact struggle that some may have with motivation is the short amount of time given on
this Earth. In An article by Chris Jones Roger Ebert s lifetime

The s Secret Model By Cameron Russell
Victoria s Secret Model, Cameron Russell, delivered one of the most profound TED Talks
delivered on the Mid Atlantic stage, according to TED writer Cameron Gallo. The model explains
that though the modeling industry considered her a perfect, she does not believe her appearance
defines her. Thus she came up with the title for her speech, Looks Aren t Everything... Believe Me,
I m a Model. . She specifically addresses that children need to understand that modelingdoes not
constitute a glamorous career. The industry drowns out personal values, views, and appearances
to warp these characteristics into a general image accepted by the masses, according to Russell.
She describes her view on modeling, and how it essentially made her feel like a hard shell of a
person with no inner value. She ended by encouraging people to find a balance between outward
appearance and inner beauty.
Looks Aren t Everything.... Believe Me, I m a Model is categorized as TED talk. These talks are
powered by nonprofit organizations dedicated to spreading ideas, in the form of speeches,
demonstrations, and videos. Richard Saul Wormac, describes the talks as observations and
recognition of a powerful convergence among three fields: technology, entertainment and design
(Gallo 3). World class speakers perform 18 20 minute presentations, within the three fields.
Cameron Russell addresses each individual field in her speech, not limiting herself to one specific
category. Modeling developed a

The Learning Theory Of Action
The Learning Theory in Action The learning theory is a theory describing how information is
absorbed, processed, and retained during learning. There are many different views of the learning
theory and many different groups of people who have studied and still study the learning theory.
Among these groups are behaviorists, cognitive theorists, transformative learning theorists, and
those who advocate for constructivism. In my paper I will talk mostly about the behaviorist s
views on learning and how they believe that learning is an aspect of conditioning. behaviorists, like
other observers of the learning theory, use classical and operant conditioningto distinguish the
different types of learning that are being done and to show how the brain responds differently after
being conditioned by a stimulus. Classical conditioning is a type of learning in which a stimulus
that used to have no effect on an individual is now conditioned to have a response because it is
associated with another stimulus that already gets a response from the individual. Operant
conditioning or instrumental conditioning, is a form of learning that is conditioned to respond in
either a positive or negative way depending on the consequences that are produced by either
positive or negative reinforcement. The learning theory is used in almost all aspects of the
education system and in my paper I will talk about learning with autism and particularly the effects
that ABA treatment have had on people who live

The For Supper
Would you mind setting the table for supper, Charity Nancy stopped mid sentence when she saw
the look on Charity s face. The poor child has no idea of how to set a table, thought Nancy. She
smiled at Charity, hoping to ease the anxiousness that was clearly visible on her face. It s alright,
dear; I ll show you how. I am sure you will catch on pretty quick; there s nothing to it. When they
had gotten everything ready and on the table, Nancy went to the door and called the men folk in

became nervous; she could barely eat because she kept sneaking glances in Henry s direction. It

Charity knew what was up because of the conversation she and her grandfather had on the way

associated national standards) in the United States using the assigned readings. [The Common Core
standards are currently implemented in 43 states and the District of Columbia. All of the states who
use Common Core can be an advantage by allowing students who move state to state to have the
same standards at school. Standards are ways to track the learning of students and are what the
students are supposed to know in each subject and grade level. Currently, there has been
controversy about Common Core. Valerie Lake, an eighth grade English teacher, believes that the
CC intensifies the complexity of what the teachers have to teach, but realizes that her students can
actually learn/understand more than what we (teachers) think. On the other hand, this makes the
students think more which in turn helps them learn and apply their skills to the test. Another
teacher states that the standards before did not make the students think about why they do what
they do in class. Overall, many teachers have their reasons to why they like or dislike the
standards; all in all, teachers are required to implement them in their lessons.] List the standards

Human Experimentation in Nazi Germany
The Nazi s were infamous for their cruel and unusual experiments on humans. Although they played
a small part of Nazi Germany s attempt at racial hygiene, these experiments desecrated and
exterminated thousands of humans (Lifton 269). quot; The Nazi medical experiments of the 1930 s
and 1940 s are the most famous example of recent disregard for ethical conduct quot; (Polit amp;

Self Respect Is A Very Powerful Term
Neel Bhagat ENG 111 September 09, 2015 Self respect is a very powerful term. Self respect is
something that has to be earned; it has to be earned from you for yourself. Self respect has to be
learned by oneself, nobody is born with self respect for himself or herself; it s not an instinct.
Many people take pride in their sense of self respect. Self respect is a vital part of ones existence.
Self respect is developed throughout a persons lifetime through many different experiences and
encounters with other people, oneself and society. According to Merriam Webster collegiate
dictionary the meaning of self respect is 1: a proper respect of oneself as a human being 2:
regard for one s own standing or position . Self respect can come in many shapes and forms.
There is no mandated definition for this word. It is all what meaning you make of it. Self
respect is essential when it comes to making decisions for one self. The level of self respect you
have for yourself determines how good you are at making judgments for yourself and others.
Lets say you are going out to dinner with your friends and your friend is a really cheap as a
person, and will make the excuse of saying that he forgot his wallet at home and will ask you to
cover for him this time and that he will pay you back whenever he sees you next. Next time you
see him you guys go out to a movie and you want him to pay you back, but you have a certain
sense of self respect and you don t want to be the one to remind him

When exploring the question of how has war changed and how has it remained the same, it
makes sense to know what governs the definition of war. Policymaker characterized it as the
organized, deliberate political action that hungers for thousands of deaths and eats for twelve
months in a table where two, capable of harming each other, sit. This offers a certain type of
criteria to meet the requirements and therefore takes genocides, protests, and even riots out of
the picture. Genocides have the capabilities to cause an inflated mass murder of a thousand or
more people in a time period of twelve months. It can be organized and deliberate, but they do
not hold two actors capable of harming each other. In some instances organized riots have
gained the trait to claim a thousand or more life s in a short period, but neither do riots hold the
actors capable of harming each other. We can take a look at today s international conflicts and
what may escalate from them to acquire a deeper understanding of war. Today we face an entity
labeled Isis in the middle east. This conflict rose from many variables. The book Essentials for
international relations give us some explanations to as why some state may go to war, and the
security dilemma explains our conflict with Isis laconically but efficiently. The security dilemma

Impact Of The Battle Of Bunker Hill In The Revolutionary War
I claim that the Battle of Bunker Hill was one of the largest impacts in Revolutionary War. The
Battle of Bunker Hill gave the American the confidence they needed for this war. This battle
showed them that, while it was still going to be very difficult, they could win this war. The Battle
of bunker Hill showed everyone in Colonial America that regular farmers were able to hold their
own against the renowned British Redcoats. The Continental Armymay have lost the battle but they
gave the British Army a large amount of losses. Without this confidence i am sure there would have
been a lot less people volunteering for their local militia. Which could have been fatal to the
Continental Army. With the great number of losses they took during the

Theme Of Civilization And War In Apocalypse Now
In the award winning film Apocalypse Now, Coppola explores the recurrent themes of
civilization and war as a moral and political struggle. Through a series of episodes up the river,
Coppola brings us through an intentional sensory journey where we as the audience is left with
the ultimate unsettling aftertaste, witnessing the struggle of the protagonist. In the film, Coppola
raises issues from the social historical context of the Vietnam war, debunking myths of heroism
and victory, tearing it down into its raw form of what war is truly about and its impact on the
world. As said by Rich, Coppola is bent on a quest for essence of individual morality, an essence
that by its very nature cannot be found in a social scale of historical events, but only in the private
moments of tragedy. (Rich, 1980) In that light, this essay will explore the relationship between
civilization and war, the portrayal of its brutality and effect on civilization, the ironic glorification
of war and treatment of the Vietnamese civilization and the degradation of the soldiers moral
sanctity as they move further into the war and away from civilization.

While there is consistency in the low light and dull colour characteristics throughout the movie,
Coppola further highlights Willard s extreme mental degradation from the start to end. In the
beginning, the film is rather bright. However, deeper into the river, the lights dim, with some
scenes shrouded in nearly complete darkness. At the end of the film, he is seen with a division of
light and shadow on his face, lit on one side; a deliberate effect of Coppola to show his moral
struggle. More prominently, Kurtz death is where we only witness a silhouette of Willard, where
darkness has overtook his psychological

Generational Differences In Older Generations
We didn t have birthdays like you growing up. I was gripped from the beginning of this interview
to learn about the generational differences between me and my grandmother. Donna McGuire,
my grandmother, has led a very different life than mine own due to multiple generation gaps and
geographical differences. This interview really enlightened me about the struggles that people
went through in previous years and how their childhoods were so drastically different than ours.
What was really eye opening about this interview was that not only how technology has changed
how we live but the evolution of society that makes older generations seem so distant even
though the difference in years is only around 60 years. Her first memory as a child is running
through farms in her bare feet in rural Wisconsin, which is one of her most fond ones at that.
She was a very bright young student, being the first girl chosen to be on a baseball team and
received very good grades and was involved in other extracurricular activities such as the
yearbook and the school newspaper for a brief stint. On her street growing up, birthday parties
were not a celebration as they are today, instead an opportunity for the kids on the street to get
together and eat ice cream and cupcakes, I never had a party where we did pin the tail on the
donkey or hired a clown or anything like that, I just remember being happy when it was my turn to
dole out the cupcakes and ice cream. It was a different time and

Workplace Violence
Hi Tonnetta, I really enjoyed reading your post. Security in the workplace is a very important topic.
Any organization, no matter what kind, can experience workplace violence. Workplace violence
often includes behaviors such as physical assault, threats, harassment, intimidation, and bullying
(Mathis, Jackson, Valentine Meglich, 2017, p. 558). You are correct that workplace violence
does not
just involve physical harm that one may do to another, it can be in the form of verbal harm. Verbal
threats, intimidation and bullying are the most common forms of workplace violence and the least
reported. A form of bullying can be through gossip and rumors. Gossip and rumors can be just as
dangerous and sinister as a physical assault. We

  • 2. Canadian Immigration Summary A brief summary This book is written from an economic perspective by three economic professors emeritus at Queen s university. The purpose of the book is to inform readers of political science, public policy, governmental agency, and immigration studies about the changes in immigration policies. It also gives some ideas on how to improve policies geared specifically towards the skilled worker s immigration category. According to the authors, it acts as a statistic reference for professors and researchers. It is likewise a great source for people that are interested in social studies. In this book, authors discuss mainly the development of Canadian Immigration policy, the history of this complicated immigration process and some major changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a major change that is affecting the current economic immigration policy and the Canadian labor market. Ever since the authors noticed that FSWP is playing a smaller role as immigration policy became more responsive to the short term need of Canadian employers. They declare that this is tragic to the durable development of our society because it only satisfies the short term need in the job market. As for me, even though it is understandable in having temporary workers can be a quick solution to the labor market shortage. At the same time, it can also solve the problem of the long delays of FSWP. However, it creates two different treatments towards immigrants and temporary workers in the long run. Consequently, it will affect local Canadians greatly by having double standards. Therefore, I believe our top priority should be focused on how to balance the current and temporary needs of the labor market from the periodical workers and the long term demands of the higher qualified ... It is because of this impact that my past counselors and C.I.L.T.s have had on me that makes me want to be a C.I.L.T., and possibly a counselor in the future, as I want to influence others lives in the same way that mine has because of camp. The Environmental Lobby and Voting Trends in the United States The environmental movement in the United States has typically focused its resources on public education, legislative lobbying and litigation. However, the movement s success in the latter two is highly dependent on the quality and character of elected officials. Successful public education on behalf of the environment translates into greater environmentalist electoral success. This paper discusses national trends that impact and influence the environmental lobby s ability to achieve favorable electoral results, and the manner in which the lobby has responded to those trends. Overall, the American public is receptive to environmentalism, but the political realm is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From 1988 to 1992 40 50% of strong Republicans supported increased federal spending on the environment, while the vast majority of the remaining strong Republicans supported the status quo. After 1994, independent leaning Republicans and weak Republicans increased their support for decreased environmental spending by roughly 10 percentage points each, bringing each group to 12 13% support for decreased spending. Strong Republicans, however, moved from about 2 8% to roughly 23% support for decreased environmental spending. Again, these changes indicate the highly partisan nature of support for decreased environmental spending. The Republican Revolution of 1994 brought a much more Conservative flavor to the Republican Party. Strong Republicans would be more likely to toe the party line on issues like environmental spending, and post 1994, the Republican Party line was arguably more anti environmentalist. This willingness among strong Republicans to carry the party line on environmental issues may be partly responsible for the widening gap between some groups of traditional Republicans. Republicans showed their strongest support for environmental spending in 1988, the year after President Reagan signed the Montreal Protocol. Here again, a sign that strong Republicans may be following party cues more than individual preferences on environmental issues. The nation as a whole was more supportive of environmental spending in 1988 than in most years, but even strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Copper Essay Weil 1 Copper is one of the earliest elements known to man. Because of its distinct red color, Copper is very easily identified. In the ancient times, copper could be found lying in the ground in its unattached state without interaction to other substances. Copper and its compounds have many uses in today s society. Copper has many chemical properties that make it unique. The Atomic number of copper is 29. An Atomic number is a measure of the amount of protons in the nucleus of an atom. Protons are sub atomic particles, which have a positive charge. The Atomic mass of copper is 63.546. The Atomic mass is a measure of how many neutrons and protons are in an atom. Neutrons are ... This film protects it against further exposure. Also, rolled Copper has a tensile strength from 50,000 to 70,000 pounds per square inch. Tensile strength is the maximum strength a material can stand before breaking. Early uses of the element include jewelry, weapons, and tools. The element was first used around 9000 b.c.e. and was found in northern Iraq. Copper was first used by Native Americans around 2500 b.c.e. One of the first skills that the ancient coppersmith must have learned how to do was shape the metal, possibly by heating. This element was first used to its full potential when Coppersmiths began to use tin with copper to make an alloy called bronze. An alloy is a mixture of two or more metals with properties differs from those of the individual metal. The alloy was first discovered as early as 4000 b.c.e. Bronze was used similar to copper due to the many variety of tools, weapons, and jewelry that are created from the alloy. It differs from copper in the way that with tin added, the alloy is a better conductor and easier to shape than the metal alone. Copper was used as the primary metal of the world to around 3000 b.c.e when society discovered iron. Many copper compounds are used in today s agricultural, medical, and pest control jobs. • 6. The Day Of The Group Members During the course of the semester our group members had very busy schedules which made meeting challenging. We primarily connected through text messages, email, and short meetings after class. Albeit meeting was difficult, our communication throughout the semester worked out well. To accomplish our tasks each member of our group would take a section of the paper and contribute their ideas. Having more meetings in person would have given us a better advantage on the tasks, but due to member s schedules, we had to make do with the timewe had. Our group could have improved on our event to hand out pamphlets by getting more volunteers to assist in passing them out, as well as go for a longer period of time. Again with class schedules and work, the entire group was not able to participate. We could have also benefited by adding something to get people s attention, possibly posters and signs. The day of our group s event we all wore purple to represent Lupus while passing out information, but doing something unusual along with that, may have prompted more questions and interest in the message we were trying to pass. Although you can look back and see what we could have improved on, I think that we still were able to meet our persuasive goal by making our classmates aware of Lupus and we were able to reach a good number of students across campus as well. Though this was not on the scale we had hoped for it still was a step in the right direction in educating more on Lupus. To ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller Essay Death of A Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, is a play based on the turmoil within an average American family. Miller wrote Death of A Salesman easily showcasing the elements of drama. I was easily able to follow the plot, identify with his characters, and picture the setting. The main theme of the plot seemed to be Willy reaching for the American Dream . Financial success , business success, outwardly perfect family, revered by your peers, and in general respected by all. Early on in the play two things are evident to the reader; Willy s questionable mental status, and his tumultuous relationship with his sons. He is also unable to come to terms with his own advancing years as a salesman. He only goes to Mr. Wagner to ask for a job strictly in New York when Linda insists. What he sees as valuable experience others see as obsolete. Willy longs for the days when the boys revered him and they were pals. Scott Foll states the driving point of plot is conflict (1182). This play definitely has the ultimate conflict. That is simply, family. Conflict with Willy and Biff, Willy with himself, and Linda with her sons. For me the turning climactic point is when while talking with Ben, Willy believes he can regain what he lost years ago with Biff by ending his life. He thinks the twenty thousand from the insurance money will fix it all. I suppose the resolution in this play was Willy s death. Although I do not imagine this could truly be resolution for the remaining family. Characterization seemed to be the most well developed element of the play. The patriarch of the family, Willy Loman was portrayed as the tragic hero. I believe his character did indeed possess some character flaws that inevitably led to his death. However, I agree with ... In Cool Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, starring Paul Newman, George Kennedy, Strother Martin, and J.D. Cannon, the protagonist Luke is shown as a Christ figure. The film begins with Luke being arrested on account of being intoxicated and vandalizing parking meters. While serving his two year sentence working in a chain gang, Luke manages to gain the respect of the other prisoners. • 11. Essay On Johann Sebastian Bach Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, Germany in 1685, as the youngest of eight children. Bach was a product of one of the greatest musical family s, and would become one of the most influenceial composers of all time. Bach lived in the heart of the reformation era and believe that all music should be to the glory of God and for the recreation of the mind. His father was a great trumpeter/violinist; his brothers were organists and keyboarders, to which Bach drew most of his influence and education. Bach was a member of the Lutheran faith and a great fan of the works and beliefs of Martin Luther. Bach tried to give depth and color to church music as he successfully added dimension to God s word. With the death of his mom in 1694 and his dad one year later in 1695, Johann Sebastian Bachfound himself alone and abandoned at the age of ten. • 12. IIi.features Of A Smart Grid III .FEATURES OF A SMART GRID Reliability The smart grid uses technology to self locate faults so their rectification is fast and sound. This self healing property of smart grid makes it more reliable than the conventional grid. Main technology used here is state estimation. Multiple routes are used in a smart grid which were used in the old grid as well. But mostly they were radial in nature so that any failure can cause total failure of the system and the current would be shunted to other elements. Flexibility in network topology Next generation grid technology would be far more flexible in transferring two way energy by allowing for distributed generation from solar cells, fuel cells , electric vehicles, wind turbines . Classic one way distribution is not that flexible to cater to problems when load is higher than the generating end . By using smarter grid this is possible. Efficiency Numerous contributions to overall improvement of the efficiency of energy infrastructure are anticipated from the deployment of smart grid technology, in particular including demand side management, for example turning off air conditioners during short term spikes in electricity price, reducing the voltage when possible on distribution lines through Voltage/VAR Optimization (VVO), eliminating truck rolls for meter reading, and reducing truck rolls by improved outage management using data from Advanced Metering Infrastructure systems. The overall effect is less redundancy in transmission ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Factors Of Proto-Industrialisation It is known by many that Britain was the first state to industrialise. Proto Industrialisation was characterised by certain factors in the 18th century in the correct combination and this gave Britain the comparative advantage to industrialise when they did. Setting them ahead in their development before the rest of the world. Eliot was one among few poets and authors that dominated the years between the First and Second World Wars. Eliot showed his use of modernism techniques through The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , creating a powerful reputation around the world, particularly as a member of The Lost Generation in the 1920s. Eliot moved to and settled in London where he worked with famous poets including Ezra Pound, and published his first collection of poems (McMichael 1358). The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrockis a famous work that was almost a mockery of the romance driven main character of the story, as it represented the indecisiveness of a personality and the superiority of an anti romanticism ideal. The poem begins with lines 61 66 of Inferno, Canto XXVII, inviting the reader to gain a sense of how exactly the character in the poem, J. Alfred Prufrock, as given by the title, might behave as did Guido de Montefeltro in Inferno. Guido de Montefeltro can be determined to be a character who is in fear of the tarnishing of his reputation from the translation of the given lines, If I thought my reply were to one who could ever return to the world, this flame would shake no more; but since, if what I hear is true, none ever did return alive from this depth, I answer you without fear of infamy. The characters are more than just characters and the plot fits more a mode of telling than an actual plot. Considering Bruner s features of narrative that he describes in The Narrative Construction of Reality , through an illustration of canonicity and breach, the protagonist of The Fight is the The Rumble in the Jungle itself, while the antagonist of the story is the breach of the fight. Canonicity and breach, as explained by Bruner, is the breach of a canonical script. This breach breaks the norms or standards of what is expected. A tale must break the normal state to be worth telling and hold value in daily living. A breach must differ from the norm, but the method of defying this norm is up to the teller. The canonicity of the story is the fight itself. Canonicity would be the desired outcome, without any changes or obstructions. The fight in its simplest form was what Don King staged. He wanted to see the better fighter, former heavyweight versus current heavyweight. This is the protagonist of the story. People wanted to know who was the better fighter, and also wanted to see a good fight. King wanted to promote professional boxing. The situation before the awakening in both passages involves being imprisoned and living in the mindset of ignorance. Each predicament of one has a huge influence on how the wisdom is obtained. Ricky s catering boss comes outside and catches him not working and remarks, I m not paying you to do whatever it is you are doing out here. Ricky replies spontaneously without any hesitation, Fine, don t pay me. I quit so you don t have to pay me. So, leave me alone. Lester turns to Ricky and says, I think you just became my personal hero! Lester is never the same again. A growing sense of confidence is a theme found in American Beauty and Demian. After hanging out with Max Demian, Emil gains the confidence to tell Franz Kromer he will not bring his sister for him to meet and also tells his mother that he stole money from her piggy bank. In American Beauty, we see Lester Burnham slowly open up and he begins to speak his mind, instead of being afraid and keeping his mouth shut. An example of this is when he has a dispute with his wife Carol about their sexual frustrations. He says: This hasn t been a marriage for years, but you were happy as ... There are many different views of the learning theory and many different groups of people who have studied and still study the learning theory. Among these groups are behaviorists, cognitive theorists, transformative learning theorists, and those who advocate for constructivism. In my paper I will talk mostly about the behaviorist s views on learning and how they believe that learning is an aspect of conditioning. behaviorists, like other observers of the learning theory, use classical and operant conditioningto distinguish the different types of learning that are being done and to show how the brain responds differently after being conditioned by a stimulus. Classical conditioning is a type of learning in which a stimulus that used to have no effect on an individual is now conditioned to have a response because it is associated with another stimulus that already gets a response from the individual. Operant conditioning or instrumental conditioning, is a form of learning that is conditioned to respond in either a positive or negative way depending on the consequences that are produced by either positive or negative reinforcement.
