Sex And The City Chapter 4
As the professor stated, chapter 4 is indeed an interesting chapter. While reading this chapter I related
it to the famous television show Sex and The City. This tv show depicts New York City as the city that
loves sex, fame and the social life. Dating nowadays is not the same, courting is no longer a thing and
one night stands has become even more popular. Both women and men pay more attention to the
status of the person, body figure, where he or she may reside, the fancy clothes and so on rather than
who the person is and getting to know them more. I know many of us, including myself might get side
tracked at become attracted to his or her body or looks rather than the person physically. However, it is
up to us to become focus again a make that decision wether we are 100 percent attracted to the person
not because of the riches and social status that they possess. The preference that stood out to me the
most was the presence for high social status. Money, cars and lavish vacation and living has become

This is so because she will begin to think about the life that she can life, vacations and most
improbably if they were to get married, have children and live comfortably. The perforce that I believe
is not as important is the preference fro willingness to invest in children. A lot of men fear
relationships, marriage and worst, children. Many New Yorkers have adapted to the fast pace life of
the 9 to 5 job, come home and do it all over again. Therefore many people people to do not have the
time to think about children. Also, I believe that if one spouse wanted to have children then the other
spouse would disagree. For example, problems the relation, financial problems or the time that he or

1.1 INTRODUCTION
Modern technology has added a new ingredient to this mix the Internet. The Internet can be regarded
as a cheaper and improved version of the self education resources. Some people like to take exam in a
classroom is traditional manual examination because they are happy to sit there and have the teacher
tell them what to learn, and when they get stuck, they are happy that there is someone there to help
them, and they enjoy the social environment while taking exam. The traditional approach to measuring
a person s level of knowledge in a topic has been the examination. These days there is often more

Analyzing the Surprise Ending in Descartes Discourse on...
Surprise Ending in Descartes In the book Discourses on the Method and the Meditations, author Rene
Descartes famously questions the existence of humanity. His most famous quotation, the one for
whom he is most remembered is I think therefore I am (Descartes 11). According to this idea, so long
as a being has the ability to think then they existed. Animals have brains and therefore they must exist.
In order to truly, exist, to be a thinking entity, a person or organism must utilize the ability granted to
them by their mind. This is the focus of much of this text, the nature of existence and the line between
what is true and what we only imagine or perceive to be true. For the majority of the text, the
philosopher asks questions in trying to formulate his own identity and indeed whether or not he
existed as all. It would be assumed that the end of the book would be a conclusion of this internal
dialogue where Descartes definitively states his position on human existence. However, Descartes
instead devotes the end of the text to a wholly new concept: namely he applies the question of
existence to a being above humanity. At the end of the text, instead of continuing on with these
questions Descartes instead discusses the idea of God and whether or not He exists. At the time of the
Royal Society which Descartes was a member of, the researchers and philosophers were trying to
understand everything about the world, something which actually is impossible to do. Renee Descartes

The Mayan Civilization
The Mayan civilization was a bountiful society that flourished from around 300 BCE to 900 CE and,
according to some, lasted for up to 3000 years. During the height of their civilization, the Maya built a
prominent society and created many inventions, some of which are used today. They are well known
for creating the first writing system called cuneiform, the concept of zero, calendars, mathematics, ball
courts, and the length of the solar year measured at about 365.242 days. Having first migrated to the
lowlands of Mesoamerica, where soil was weak, the Maya used many intense agricultural methods
such as slash and burn, irrigation, and terracing to their advantage; they were able to produce plentiful
amounts of crops and thrive in a lush grassy area. They traded numerous luxury goods with their
neighbors in Mesoamerica such as cacao beans, rare animal hides, fine artwork and jewelry, jade, and
even gold. Though they often fought with nearby Mayan cities, they had strong political and economic
systems and a social hierarchy, kings and high priests being the most important. It would seem that the
Maya didn t have any real obstacles to their reign, and for a long time, they lived in prosperity and
peace. However, near the beginning of the 8th century CE, a large wave of abandonment swept
throughout the cities, starting from the southern regions and quickly moving upward. From this point
on, these abandonments would mark the ending of the long reign of the Maya. The very last

Thomas Clement Douglas s The Greatest Canadian
Thomas Clement Douglas, or Tommy Douglas was a prominent Canadian politician during the 1900s,
as both a premier and a minister of health in the House of Commons. Though he was born in Scotland,
his family moved to Canada at a very early age. Tommy Douglas spent most of his early life in
Manitoba and most of his later life in Saskatchewan. Before he got into politics, Douglas was a Baptist
preacher. He accomplished lots in his time and was even voted as the number one on the CBC
television show the Greatest Canadian . Canadians remember him as a man with moral integrity and
intellectual honesty. In my eyes, he is a hero. He was the first leader of any socialist government in
Canada. He brought free healthcare to Canada, and he believed ... Show more content on

During his time at Brandon College, he met a woman named Irma Dempsey. Whom he married in
1930. Tommy and Irma had two daughters. Shirley who was born in 1934, and Joan, who was adopted
later on. An interesting fact, famous actor Kiefer Sutherland is the son of Shirley Douglas, making him
Tommy Douglas grandson. Tommy Douglas cared deeply for his family.
Tommy was born 1904 in Camelon, Scotland. When Tommy Douglas was 6 years old, his family
relocated to the city of Winnipeg in Canada. Unfortunately, before Tommy had left Scotland, he had
fallen and wounded his right knee which led to Osteomyelitis(an infection of the bone). Many
treatments in Scotland had to be done to help him recover, even though later in Winnipeg the
Osteomyelitis started up again. There was not much that could be done as medical care at that time in
Canada was very expensive. His family was not wealthy. The only option that seemed present to them
was to amputate his leg, until news came that a well known medical surgeon had wanted to operate on
Tommy as long as his parents agreed to allow his medical students to observe. This event had never
left Tommy s memory. In 1918, at age 14, Tommy Douglas had dropped out of high school to pursue a
job that could earn his family more money. 1919, was the year of the Winnipeg Strike. Tommy had
witnessed the horror of the strike firsthand. He saw policemen beating strikers with clubs, he saw law
enforcement shoot workers with guns, he saw cars set on fire.

Thomas Paine The Crisis No. 1 Essay
Thomas Paine writes The Crisis No. 1 in order to convince the Americans to continue to stay united
throughout this war. Paine uses patriotism as well as, logic and reasoning in order to convince the
colonists. Thomas Paine makes good use of patriotism in The Crisis No.1 in order to make his
argument more effective. He states These are the times that try men s souls. The summer soldier and
the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he stands it now,
deserves the love and thanks of man and woman ( The Crisis No. 1). When he states this, he is trying

In his end thoughts Thomas Paine says, But if a thief breaks into my house, burns and destroys my
property, and kills or threatens to kill me or those who are in it and to bind me in all cases whatsoever
to his absolute will, am I to suffer it? What signifies it to me, whether he who does it is a king or a
common man (The Crisis No. 1). Thomas Paine is successful when he says this to support his
argument of the Americans remaining United during this time against Britain. By using logic he
attempts to poke at the Americans common sense. He tells them the obvious, he knows no person in
their right mind would willingly let someone into their house to take their belongings, so he uses it to
his advantage. He forces the colonist to consider if they wouldn t let their neighbor take their things
why let Britain do it?Why allow yourself to remain under the control of a not so good King? As a way
of persuading the American Colonist to remain or start to stay United with The United States, Thomas
Paine writes The Crisis No.1 . Paine makes good use of patriotism as well as logic and reasoning in

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Adversity is a large factor in the shaping process of one s character development, but it always varies
from person to person. In his novel The Book Thief, Markus Zusak integrates adversity into the lives
of his characters through the political struggles during the era of World War II, to ultimately shape
their personal character and identity. The development by adversity is demonstrated largely through
three different characters: Liesel Meminger, Hans Hubermann, and Max Vandenberg. Liesel
Meminger faces a couple accounts of hardships, or adversities, before even arriving at the doorstep of
her foster parents Rosa and Hans Hubermann. In the fifth chapter of The Book Thief, Liesel s brother
dies directly in front of her own eyes, resulting in endless dreams every night about her brother,
always ending in his death; this also creates pathos for the reader because Liesel s pain and agony is
visible every single day, but is being used to strengthen her relationship with her foster father, Hans (
Papa ). Another factor in the development of Hans and Liesel s relationship is the loss of Liesel s
mother. A loss usually signifies a death, but in Liesel s case, it signifies her mother leaving and never
to answer the letters that are continuously sent to her. Hans Hubermann has a soft and docile character,
and is not only used to comfort Liesel after her nightmares, but to become the parent figure that Liesel
craves as a young 10 year old girl, especially after losing her entire

The Causes Of Student Stress In Education
It is often said that college students of the current generation exhibit some of the highest recorded
stress levels. There are many theories as to why these stress levels continue to rise. Perhaps the main
reason behind this rising stress is the fact that society is choosing to acknowledge its existence, thus
making the terminology more commonly known and revealing its detrimental effects the to the public.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze what has changed over the years in regards to education, what
seem to be common stressors among students, how these students learning mechanisms are affected,
and how America can work to prevent academic stress.
An important topic to investigate in regards to stress levels includes that of differences between
generations. More specifically, it is important to analyze what has changed over the years; in doing so,
new findings as to why student stress levels are rising may be discovered. One example of a change is
simply the number of students choosing to enroll in college. Almost every year, college admissions are
increasing, mainly because it is becoming universally accepted to go to college and attain a degree.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Enrollment in degree granting institutions
increased by 11 percent from 1991 to 2001 and another 32 percent from 2001 to 2011 (Novotney,
2014). With more students enrolling in college, there will consequentially be more students reporting
feelings of stress and

One Of The Main Problems With The Law Is Injustice In The
One of the main problems with the law is injustice in the criminal justice system. There are so many
innocent people serving time in jail. The criminal justice system in America was created to keep
communities safe, to respect and restore victims, and to return offenders who leave prison to be self
sufficient and law abiding. What the system has become is a monumental failure that our states and
nation can no longer afford. There has been a growth in crime, but that may be because of the growth
of technology and receiving information. Wrongful conviction and prison overcrowding are known as
major issues in the criminal justice system because prisoners are held liable for crimes they did not
commit and taxpayers pay for the care ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to statistics, Blacks have a disproportionate representation in the prison system. Some say
that Blacks and Latinos and more likely to be charged for a crime because of their race (Blumstein
p.39). Incarceration rates between Blacks and Whites are disproportionate, with a ratio of seven blacks
to one white. This is a profound example of racial discrimination (Gabbidon, and Greene). Most say
that the main cause of wrongful conviction is corruption in the justice system. The Justice System may
convict an innocent of a crime just so someone is held liable for said crime, and in order for them to
move on to the next case. We have all heard or read, whether on the news or in the paper, about
criminal cases where individuals are convicted of crimes and sometimes even given the death penalty;
and in most of these cases they were given a public lawyer, that may have been inexperienced with
these types of cases, or did not put as much work into the case as they should have. Which led to a
clearly innocent individual being held liable for a crime. Such incompetency on the part of a defense
attorney undoubtedly results in some wrongful convictions (Warner). Lives have been known to be
torn apart by prosecutorial misconduct. Numerous safeguards have been placed in our judicial system,
to help protect against wrongful convictions of innocent people. One of many protections our judicial
system provides to protect against wrongful convictions is the presumption

Tropch Synthesis Essay
Effect of Cobalt Based Catalysts on Product Distribution in Fischer Tropsch Synthesis.
Introduction:
Fossil energy sources such as oil, coal, and natural gases are become the major source for the energy
which are formed from died prehistoric plants and animals buried in the layers of land over a million
of years. But there are lot of impacts on the environment by the use of fossil fuels through combustion
resulting in the emission of greenhouse gases. Over the past 20 years three fourths of human caused
emissions came from the burning of fossil fuels.
Crude oil plays an important role in the production of energy and united states consume more energy
from petroleum than from any other sources. In 2014, 19 million barrels of petroleum was consumed
by total U.S. i.e., 35% of all the energy consumed in the United States. Increase in population,
industrialization and demand for energy, oil is diminishing at a faster rate each year. Therefore, it
would cause a fossil fuel supply limitation with large economic impact, and the environment problems
are both driving forces for actions towards a more sustainable energy system. In addition, scientists at

hydrocracking of the wax is needed. Hydrocracking is a selective process, which converts the heavy
hydrocarbons into lighter products, for example naphtha, kerosene and diesel oil. In this process C C
bond breaking takes place in the presence of hydrogen. The linearity of the FischerTropsch naphtha is
a drawback for gasoline production. The octane number of the hydrocracked wax is improved by
processes such as isomerization, catalytic reforming, alkylation and oligomerization. The naphtha is
therefore better used as feedstock for the petrochemical

Change In The Arctic Ocean
Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the early 1800s, humans have been releasing ever
increasing amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels.
About half of that man made CO2 has been absorbed by the oceans, increasing the concentration of
carbonic acid, which has caused the oceans to become more acidic. Over the past 300 million years,
ocean pH has averaged about 8.2. Today, it is around 8.1, a 25% increase in acidity over the past two
centuries. That increase is projected to reach 150% by the end of this century, a rate of change not
seen in 65 million years. A more acidic ocean inhibits shell growth in marine animals such as corals,

We are not able to predict all the nuances of climate change, but a few are obvious. The planet s winds
are driven in large part by the temperature difference between the poles and the tropics. Since the
Arctic is heating faster than the tropics, the temperature difference is decreasing and wind speeds are
slowing. They have already slowed in the northern hemisphere by between 5 and 15% in the past 30
years. One consequence of reduced winds is erratic behavior of the northern jet stream, the oscillations
of which sometimes bring cold air south and warm air north. More erratic oscillations could cause
blizzards, tropical cyclones, droughts and heat waves in unexpected places at unexpected times. Our
computer models are not robust enough to predict what and where.
Ocean currents also will change because of global warming. The melting of Arctic ice dilutes salt
water moving north from the tropics in the Gulf Stream, making the water less dense, and thus less
inclined to sink for the return journey. The warming Arctic Ocean reduces the temperature differentials
that drive ocean currents. Changing ocean currents will have effects on everything from the Indian
monsoons to the pattern of El Niño to the surprisingly moderate climate now enjoyed in northern

The Basic Tenets of the New Sociology of Childhood
Discuss the basic tenants and evaluate the utility of the new sociology of childhood in gaining a better
understanding of young people.
Childhood is the age span ranging from birth to adolescence and its non specific for it can imply a
varying range of years in human development reference. The age ranges anywhere from 12 years to
15years with 18years being most common. Previous research done by sociologists focused on children
primarily in terms of socialization and within the context of the family. The new sociology of
childhood argues that children inhabit more than one world, worlds that may well conflict those of
adults, those of children s own making, and those that children ... Show more content on

The Marxist perspective argues that childhood is socially constructed because the bourgeoisie need a
better educated and skilled work force to cope with complex machines and follow instructions. The
family provided food, shelter and clothing and by paying taxes provides education and healthcare for
those who will be the next generation of workers. All of this benefited bourgeoisie at all most no
expense to them. The ideology of responsibility of parents ensures that parents make sacrifices to
bring up their children. Therefore, the bourgeoisie benefit from the concept of childhood.
Therefore by arguing that childhood is social constructed, the new sociology of childhood enables one
to understand young people from a different perspective. Such notions of childhood innocence,
vulnerability, helplessness, economic dependence among others are scrutinized with regard to broader
structural forces. Thus young people even though by virtue of their biological and psychological make
up may be similar across all cultures, what they are expected to do or how they view themselves differ
from place to place, situation to situation. For instance even though the United Nations universalize
childhood by defining it as, Childhood is the time for children to be in school and at play, to grow
strong and confident with the love and encouragement of their family and an extended community of
caring adults (UNICEF 2005).

Diabetes Essay examples
Diabetes
Diabetes, Diabetes Mellitus, is a chronic illness this means that it has no cure and the symptoms
persist over a long period of time. This illness is a result of an imbalance of hormones, insulin,
produced in the pancreas. Insulin plays an important role in how the body uses food. Insulin enables
the cells in the bloodstream to absorb and use glucose for fuel. If the pancreas produces too little or no
insulin or if the insulin doesn t work properly the person may become diabetic. Therefore, diabetics
are not able to properly convert food into fuels needed by the body to function, which can seriously
lead to physical consequences.

But, the insulin can still seep out through the beads.
Normally the level of glucose in the body rises after a person eats a meal. This rise in blood glucose
stimulates the beta cells to release insulin. Insulin then either helps body cells take up glucose to use
as energy or promotes the conversation of glucose to fat, which are used by the cells later. Some
glucose maybe stored in the liver this is called glycogen. Then the level of glucose drops (usually
several hours after the meal has been eaten), other cells in the pancreas stimulate the conversion of
glycogen to glucose and its release into the bloodstream. In this way, the level of glucose in the
bloodstream stays relatively constant until the next meal is eaten.
The body tends to deal with this imbalance by filtering out excess glucose throughout the kidneys,
resulting in high levels of sugar in the urine. As glucose level rises the kidneys over whelmed and don
t function normally. They lose their ability to absorb much water the result is frequent urination. This
is commonly the earliest sign of diabetes. It is often followed by unquenchable thirst as the body tries
to regain the lost fluids. It often seems that more fluid comes out than went in.
The name diabetes mellitus describes two striking symptoms of disease. The first part of the name,
meaning a siphon or drain, seems

Relationship Between Counselling And Psychotherapy
COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY Counselling It helps the individual to know their

Essay on The Cone-Gatherers by Robin Jenkins
The Cone Gatherers by Robin Jenkins
The Cone Gatherers written by Robin Jenkins covers many topics. The two topics I shall mainly focus
on are the eventual insanity of Duror the gamekeeper and also his evil towards Calum and Neil, the
two cone gatherers. As I read the book, I discovered that Duror was an evil and disturbed human being
who was driven to insanity by his hate towards the cone gatherers.
The evil inside Duror is the book s focus, although other themes appear throughout the book. Evil is
described in Chapter 8 as a presence like air, infecting everyone .
From the start of the book, Duror s cold evil is made very clear. Duror the gamekeeper, in an icy sweat

of the Ardmore men s (cone gatherers) work and he said it should be all right. As Duror was about to
leave, the telephone rang. Mr Tulloch was explaining that Calum had certain sensibilities, especially
towards the deer drive. Duror, when asked by Lady Runcie Campbell if Calum and Neil were really
needed, he insisted they were so Lady Runcie Campbell told Mr Tulloch the same.
In Chapter 5, Duror seemed to take great pleasure in telling the cone gatherers about their necessary
attendance of the upcoming deer drive. Neil got very irate about it and said that Duror was deceiving
them by trying to get them to do things, that they don t particularly want to do. Neil knew that Calum
was never asked to take part in deer drives because of his particular sensibilities and then accused
Duror of deceiving them. Duror was silent. His triumph was become a handful of withered leaves He

delay development of bacteriuria. This ability however varied greatly depending on population,

alloy coated catheters in current trials than in earlier trials. The authors hypothesized the possibility of
this effect being due to an exaggeration of the effect of these catheters in earlier trials because of an
advantage of newer silicone catheters over the older latex catheters which dilutes the effect in later
trials. They also hypothesized that catheter care had improved over time. Another finding was that
there seemed to be less of an advantage for silver alloy coated catheters over controls than for
nitrofurazone impregnated catheters. Finally, this review noted many gaps in the literature such as the
lack of comparison between treatment catheters and the lack of studies looking at symptomatic UTI as
a primary outcome variable. These were recommended as a possibilities for future

People suffering from autism very often demonstrate a poor performance in social interactions; and
hence find it difficult to communicate to other people. On the other hand, it is equally difficult for
others to communicate to them in the usual ways. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) regarded as the

‘The decentralisation of retailing and other services has...
In the 1950s and 1960s shops selling high order goods, like furniture and jewellery, were in the town
and city centres, which attracted customers from a wide catchment area. Shops selling low order
goods, like food, were located in the local neighbourhoods. However, this traditional shopping pattern
began to change in the 1970s, when shops like supermarkets and DIY stores began to move to the
outskirts of towns by decentralisation. Although it is obvious that the decentralisation of retailing and
other services has had a major impact on urban areas, the impacts have been negative, positive or
neutral.
There are a number of reasons for the growth in out of town retailing. Firstly, increased car ownership
has meant that many more people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Bluewater in Kent is built in a former quarry. This redevelopment of brownfield sites
can often help to regenerate an area. In city centres, positive impacts include local councils and the
government investing money into improving the city centre, in order to attract customers back. Some
of these improvements may include creating new pedestrian zones, renovating older shopping malls
and organising events. Also, pollution and congestion may decrease as fewer people drive to the city
centre to shop. These positive impacts may lead people to believe that the decentralisation of retailing
and other services has had a major positive impact on urban areas.
The Trafford Centre opened in 1998. It was built on a brownfield site in the industrial area of Trafford
Park, 5 miles west of Manchester. The site covers 150 acres and cost £600,000 to complete. The
Trafford Centre has the largest catchment area of any shopping centre in the UK, with over 5.3 million
people living within a 45 minute drive. The Centre is popular for a number of reasons. Firstly, the
Trafford Centre has over 200 shops, a 1600 seat food court, a 20 screen cinema, crazy golf and ten pin
bowling. In addition to this, it is well connected by road, being very close to the M60 for customers
coming from outside of Manchester, and the M602 into the city centre. There are also many buses that
go direct from Manchester to the Trafford Centre.

Compare And Contrast Beowulf And Bilbo
Does time change the way you see things and can you see your views evolving? On September 19th
2017, a paper due on what it means to be a hero, defined by heroistics qualities from characters from
the books Beowulf, the Knight s Tale, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Bilbo, the protagonist of
the Hobbit, has a handful of heroistic qualities to him, but do they compare to the qualities found back
on Spether 19th? Today, Bilbo will be compared to the heroistic qualities originally found in Beowulf,
Theseus, from the Knight s Tale, and Sir Gawain.
How does Beowulf s original qualities compared to Bilbo from the Hobbit? Beowulf s qualities were
limited to courage, strength, and confidence. At the beginning of the Hobbit, we see that Bilbo was not
a very courageous hobbit. His courage slowly developed throughout the book, as he learned what he
was capable of achieving. The strength he had was always inside him, but he wasn t sure how reach it.
Going on the adventure gave Bilbo just what he needed to find how strong he actually was. In the end,
the courage and strength Bilbo found gave him more confidence than he ever had. ... Show more

leader of the group and the one who everyone looked up to. He was a clam figure from the beginning,
but lacked in assertiveness. You could always guarantee Bilbo to finish what he started, his
determination shined throughout the entire novel. The adventure Bilbo was apart of, made him into a

Difference Between Art And Contemporary Art
Christian Casas
Rafael Hernandez
LIT3400
The Everyday
A typical way of relating social/political issues to art assumes that art represents the thing one way or
another. But there can be a more interesting perspective, which is looking at the field of art as a place
of work. Basically look at what it does not what it shows. Amid all other forms of art, fine art has been
associated with post Fordist ideology. Post Fordism is a popular system of economically based on
production, consumption and has been in most industrialized countries since the late 20th century.
Contemporary art is not an out of this world discipline hidden away in some remote building. In fact,
it s the opposite because it positions itself in the thick of things. It can function as a brand name
without a brand feeding off the bits and pieces of social and political issues. Presently, contemporary
art has grown apart from important hubs, which gives the artist a wider range of production and
provides various opportunities for showcasing the work. In contrast, this has not always been the case.
Artist in novels about portraitures are depicted as servants due to the flow of cash. Art should be
functioning on its own without the need of an institutional backing in order to create separation
between the artist and their work as well as what the work can do .
Portraits appear as an object already existing in the world and about whose producer and the process
of production not much (most often nothing) needs

Rhetorical Analysis Of Jfk Inaugural Address
In John F. Kennedy s Inaugural Address on January 20, 1961, Kennedy addresses the citizens of the
United States as well as the country s allies in regards to his plans on how he will run the country
during his time as president. He speaks with passion about hope for an improved United States, as
well as an improved planet overall. To deliver his message profoundly and clearly, Kennedy uses
many rhetorical devices in his speech that give his message a conversational tone as well as a clear
and compelling structure. Firstly, Kennedy uses many metaphors to place a meaningful emphasis on
his words. When he speaks to members of the audience who have just become freed from tyranny,
Kennedy uses a metaphor to describe why this will not occur in the United States when he states, ...
we shall always hope to find them strongly supporting their own freedom and to remember that, in the
past, those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside . Kennedy
speaks of dictators who attempted to overtake a country and ultimately were destroyed by this choice.
The use of diction here promises that he understands the limits to his own power as president, and will
not push such important boundaries. Another excellent metaphor appears when the president says, ....
we offer a special pledge... to assist free men and free governments in casting off the chains of poverty
. Here, Kennedy stresses the idea that poverty prevents people from advancing in society. The chains
are not physical nor visible, but can be felt heavily across the bodies of the less fortunate as they
struggle to make enough money to survive. While both of these metaphors are compelling to readers,
Kennedy also chooses to use the word we in each statement. This choice allows the listener to feel
connected personally with the president, and creates a sense of a personal relationship as Kennedy
continues. Secondly, Kennedy also uses the rhetorical devices of polysyndeton and asyndeton in his
speech. These devices create a rhythm throughout the speaker s words that work to entrance the
listener. Within the first few paragraphs of the infamous address, Kennedy employs polysyndeton. ...

Essay on The Educational Benefits of Video Games
The Educational Benefits of Video Games The repetition of the statement claiming that video games
do not help children in their educational enterprises is unfair. There have been numerous studies
conducted providing evidence that children gain structural knowledge while engaging in video game
play (Pillay 2002). Certainly, different styles of video games may produce different results. It is
important for us to understand the different benefits from the various styles of games. Because
students play a wide variety of games, they may have a repertoire of schemas with different

of video gaming. In the May 29 issue of Nature, people who play action video games process visual
information more quickly. They can track 30% more objects than non game players (Roach 2003).
Boosting visual scores can improve dramatically after just 10 hours of playing action games (Cohen

have positive elements and add value; they create a micro world of their own. The players act based
on natural tendencies towards learning. Therefore, learning occurs while playing (Rosas et al., 2003).

The Ancient Greeks
During the time of the ancient Greeks we read about their remarkable achievements; whether it be
social, political, or cultural, we would not understand their accomplishments if it weren t for their
precise interpretation of text and the development of a lasting language. When looking at our lives
today, the lack of credit which goes to our ancient descendants is beyond decent; for the lives in which
they established for themselves, only furthered our capability and our potential of exceeding what was

were able to formulate a alphabet with it, creating the ability to write, and thereon creating records for

civilization, we can easily see and conclude that the simple foundations of humanity explained

Evaluation Of My Seven Habits Profile
During the evaluation of my seven habits profile, my life balance speaks of maintaining things that are
important to you. I am in a wonderful relationship and work very hard to spend as much quality time
with my partner as I can. That being said, I still work at maintaining outside relationships with my
friends by spending time with them on the phone, or perhaps going out to dinner. When working, there
are when things can feel very overwhelming. What I strive to do is take one task at a time and go from
there, being proactive when life challenges come up. I work at seeing the glass as half empty, rather I

Observation Of Parent Infant Interaction
Observational study of parent infant interaction Infants are a special cohort of a population in the
society. Children between the ages of five months to two years are at a stage where they start
familiarizing with their surroundings and have different reactions to situations. The surrounding where
an infant grows greatly determines his or her development. The primary determinant of the
development of infants is the parent infant interaction (Crain, 2015). The first bond or relation of a
child is with its biological parents or guardians in the case of orphaned children. In this paper, I will
analyze the parent infant interaction of a family of four members comprising of father, mother and two
daughters. The mother is a physician in the referral hospital. The mother is a hardworking woman who
is obsessed with perfection. She is specialized in pediatrics hence aware of many developmental
milestones in infants. The youngest daughter is one and a half years old whereas the firstborn daughter
is four years old. For this assignment, an observation of the younger kid was done in the apartment
where the family lives. According to the observation, the younger child is scared of strangers based on
her reaction when carried by other people who are not part of the family. She cries a lot and seems
scared of the unfamiliar faces. She is in particular resistant to the male individuals. She is slightly
friendly to the females who carry her but remains calm. The reaction was prominent when one family
visited during the observation. The friend was a bearded young man. His hair was frightening to the
kid as she could cry loudly when being carried by him. The positive attitude towards the female was
recognized after the wife of the visiting family carried the kid. The reaction can be related to the child
s preference for gender. The behavior disturbs the mother as she thinks this might have a negative
impact on her child s sexuality. She is worried that the kid even at her old age is more likely to have a
preference for female individuals than male individuals. Furthermore, based on the observation, the
kid is highly attracted to brightly colored patterns as opposed to dull or darker shades of colors.
According to the mom,

The Effect of U.S. Propaganda in World War One
World War One was a pivotal point in the evolution of how warfare was implemented to the battle
field. The beginning of war started with similar technology and tactics in the 19th century, but by the
end of the war technology along with tactics will change extensively. All sides of the war eventually
would use telephones, wireless communications, armored tanks, and even airplanes to their advantage
(Kaminski, 1989). Away from the battle field though a new device was constructed for the war effort,
a literary device; the use of propaganda. Although propaganda was never a tangible use in physical

Propaganda gave way to Americans joining the Red Cross, buying liberty goods, or planting victory

these efforts also revealed negative efforts by US citizens. The recent German immigration in the
1870s and 1880s posed a problem in the social relations between non German Americans. Being Anti
German was often associated with patriotism; many citizens burned German books, and removed
German composers from symphony programs (Greve, 2014). Eventually things turned away from
more fickle matters considering German accustoms and turned towards darker matters. Those deemed
too German faced ridicule, threats, accusations of disloyalty or espionage and sometimes physical
harm (Greve, 2014). The social conditions for many German immigrants were vastly changed during
this period of anti German rhetoric. Many German immigrants felt the need to Americanize (Greve,
2014). German culture was hindered with many immigrants refusing to speak in their native tongue as
well as teaching German as a second language, America had truly fallen into a state of
Germanophobia (Greve, 2014).

If it does decide carefully, for the outcome is yours to deal with. Each individual person has their own
set of ethics. This set of moral principals can vary radically, depending on the subject, circumstance,
or even upbringing. On any given day an individuals morals can change depending on the happenings
of that day or previous days. One tiny event may have such a large impact on an individual that they
may choose to rethink their whole ethical system. The ethics you determine are yours and yours alone.
You do not need a book explaining why you feel the way you do. Each individual has suffered through
different hardships and has breezed through different high periods in their life. Ethics build as a person
ages and experiences more. The more you have seen and witnessed, the more able you are to draw
conclusions as to whether you have a point of view on that particular subject. In addition to individual
and personal codes of ethics, each person also has their own method of making decisions.

Theories Of Disengagement
Theories of Ageing The Disengagement Theory: This theory claims that it is natural and normal for
the elder to detach from personal relationships and society as they age and withdraw from the roles
they played in adulthood. The Disengagement Theory was created by social scientists Elaine
Cumming and William Earle Henry and it was published in the Growing Old book in 1961. These two
theorists had 9 postulates that confirm the disengagement theory. People lose social ties to those
around them because they expect death, and their abilities to engage with others deteriorate over time.
As a person begins to disengage, they are increasingly freed from social norms which guide
interaction. Losing touch with norms reinforces and fuels the ... Show more content on

The Negative Effects Of The Media On The Women s Body Image
The increasing and widespread use of media, as well as it tremendous ability to influence its audience,
has raised various concerns over the effects the media has on its viewers. One of the fields of
increasing concerns is the idea that the media portrays unrealistic body images and that these
portrayals have negative consequences on their viewers, especially so for women. Women have
always been associated with ideals of beauty and a particular body image. The question arises as to
how far the media further perpetuate these models and body images, and what are the consequences of
these effects? When the media works to perpetuate such ideals of beauty and body image, the majority
of the female population, who do not conform to such ideals and body type, fall prey to psychological
issues resulting from body dissatisfaction such as depression, self hate, negative moods, and emotions,
particularly for the younger women. Such negative emotions, when evoked, can lead to negative
consequences and actions for the affected female population, which include drastic, harmful steps
such as crash diets, self harm, or cosmetic surgery.
Effects of Media on the Women s Body Image
Many studies have been based on the concerning effects of media portrayals of beauty and body
images on women. Yamammiya et al. (2005) write that research on media images show around 94% of
the female characters shown on television are thinner than the average American woman. Moreover,

PICC Line Analysis
When hearing the term PICC line it maybe rather confusing; that is unless you re in the medical
profession or have a family member that has one. First, the name that groups all of them together is
called; a central venous catheter. A PICC line is just one of many. It is described as a peripherally
inserted central catheter; otherwise called PICC line. It is a long, thin, flexible tube that is inserted
under the skin into a vein in the arm rather than a vein in the neck or chest. ( WebMD ). The purpose
of the PICC is to give medicines, fluids and blood products over an extended period of time. Those
with cancer, kidney disease, diabetes, Lyme disease and total parenteral nutrition or (TPN) are
common reason that a PICC line could be used for. PICC lines are thought to be a safer and simpler
way to distribute needed treatments. Fewer than 10% of patients have trouble or generate a venous
injury. ( Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters and Other Intravascular Devices , 2014). ... Show

Public Relations Assistant Experience Paper
The aim of this paper is to discuss and elaborate on the experience, insights, value, and practical
training gained throughout my internship as a Public Relations Assistant at Louisiana Delta
Community College with the Director of Public Relations Mrs. Darian Atkins. As the director, she
develops and executes strategies that create and uphold a positive public image for the college and
Chancellor Dennis Epps by working and forming relationships with various members of the media,
government, and public. As the assistant, I acted as the support for Mrs. Atkins by researching to
construct stories and press releases, completing administrative tasks, and photographing events.
The paper is divided into three points of learning. The first point ... Show more content on

In addition, Mrs. Atkins enlightened me that with any friction, you must have a plan to maintain the
company s status. For example, she made a chart on the steps to take to ensure that the college s image
did not diminish and that including faculty and staff is critical. Although confidentiality is good, you
cannot misinform the media because that could lead to a disaster.
Second Point: Adobe Creative Suite
My first attempt with Adobe Creative Suite was during my practicum. Ms. Castillo showed me a few
tasks in Photoshop, but entering the intern, I was introduced to more such as InDesign and Illustrator.
Mrs. Atkins ordered me to use only Adobe because it was a great technical skill to have and most
businesses use it today.
Before using it on my own, she had me examining her tool with the program to get better knowledge
of it. One day after an event, we went to edit photos in Photoshop to post them on Facebook. During
editing, she explained when printing an image, you must save it in CMYK to make the image s colors
stay true. CMYK refers to the four inks used in some color printing: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key
(black). However, if you are posting it for social media purpose, it is best to save in RGB. The RGB
color model is an additive color model in which red, green and blue light are added together in various
ways to reproduce a broad array of colors.

Essay On Open Government In Canada
What is the open government partnership? Canada is a major signatory and member of the open

The People Over Weight And Obese
In today society the majority of people are over weight. The USA is considered to have the most
people over weight and obese. So what is wrong with our system of eating ? Why are other countries
considered to be healthier then the US. Part of the reason is the way we where brought up. And
another reason is the the foods we are given at easy access. But that isn t to say the stores don t play a
role in the way that you shop. So what could be a solution to living a healthier life style. Being healthy
is a lot more then being lean, its about being smart enough to not letting the stores trick you into
buying what they want you to buy, and rather what you need to buy. When you walk into the store to
buy milk, bread, meat, and produce. You ll notice that all those things tend to be at the back of the
store. They are forcing you to walk through the middle ails where all the unnecessary things they want
you to buy are located. So by the time you ve reached the back of the store you have 5 10 items that
you didn t intend to buy. Another example is placement on the shelves. The majority of people are
right handed so they will make more right turns and as they turn to the right with the cart they place
things at eye level to the right so it will catch your eye. Another tactic is since many countries in the
world read left to right they place the higher marked items on the left in hope you ll buy the more
expensive product before getting to the cheaper alternative on the right.

Kumon Bedroom Observation Report
As I completed my work in Kumon,a math and reading educational center that helps children with
standardized testing; all I could focus on was the prize drawers. Kumon s one large gray room with
seven or eight long tables. The owners of Kumon are an Asian couple, Mr. and Mrs. Chang. When I
completed my work and hastily checked it over I rushed to turn it into Mr. Chang. He quickly and
happily reviewed it, I received a hundred. My best friend Muskaan stood next to one of their helpers
Mr. Jordan, she managed to pull out a hundred too. Muskaan, my fifth grade friend and I (a fourth
grader)carpool to Kumon after school every Monday and Wednesday. Since both of us managed to
pull out hundreds so each of us were awarded five Kumon dollars. A Kumon dollars allows students to
buy prizes. Kailey what are will you get from the store? Muskaan questioned. I m buying the glorious
highlighter, I exclaimed excitedly. The highlighter is truly astonishing it s a triple sided highlighter
with my three favorite colors. A vibrant pink, a neon yellow and a light green. We walked over to the
glorious white prize box. The box s or a set of plain white office drawers. Muskaan turned into a
tomato, A hundred Kumon dollars for a highlighter! Are you joking! Wait what?! I ... Show more

that a room with modern decor with a twist with Asian decor could be intimidating. I could not look at
my mom, if I did I would start balling right on the spot. Mrs. Chang began talking to my mom. I have
no idea what she did or how furious they were all I knew that I was in a monumental amount of

How Does Mark Twain Use Ordinary American Speech
The novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn implicitly reflects the author s real life and society.
The book s author, Mark Twain is a white owning a few slaves. Despite the fact that he is already in a
social class of being equally treated, he criticizes American society throughout this novel. Based on
Biography of Mark Twain and the text, they infer that Mark Twain mostly use ordinary American
Speech. Taking a look at chapter four, there is a part of hard understanding English Yo ole father doan
know yit what he s a gwyne to do... . Unlike most contemporary author using European novelists style
of comprehensible English, Mark Twain s use of ordinary American speech demonstrates that he
considered deeply about every aspect of society and even showed how some particular people are
tormented due to contemporary society characteristics. For example, slaves are key characters in the
whole story. Mark Twain s use of ordinary speech ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, at the beginning of chapter one, Mark Twain humorously illustrates of Miss Watson
living in high social class. Miss Watson s grumble like Don t put your feet up there, Huckleberry; and
Don t scrunch up like that, Huckleberry set up straight; and pretty soon she would say, Don t gap and
stretch like that, Huckleberry why don t you try to behave? indirectly shows that society in which the
author lives is largely affected by hierarchical class. Moreover, the quote Tom and I found the money
that the robbers hid in the cave, and it made us rich. We got six thousand dollars apiece all gold. talks
about the childish view on money and this implicates that money makes up most part of society. In
other words, a hierarchical society was also significantly affected by people s income or how much
money they possess. Even though the quote previously mentioned is about children s pure opinion, it
somehow shows that money plays a pivotal role in composing the whole

Proper Way To Display A Flag
How does your piece of art communicate, evoke, or inspire? What do you think the artist was trying to
say with his or her work?
Dread Scott definitely created a lot of controversy between people throughout the United States with
his artwork What is the Proper Way to Display a Flag. People started communicating and discussing
the artwork with one another. This definitely evoked a lot of people negatively. Americans were very
upset to see this art displayed in a public museum. People starting discussing whether or not it was
right to have the flag disrespected in this way. President Bush did not approve of the artwork at all
saying that it was disgraceful and made him worry about the idea of freedom of speech (Scott, n.d.).
This artwork inspired the government to outlaw displaying the flag of the United States on the floor or
ground. (Scott, n.d.).
Dread Scott wanted his artwork to be able to be understood by a broad group of people. I think the
author was trying to say that not everyone in the U.S. has to respect the flag by not stepping on it.
There are people in America that do not think that they have to follow the rule of not letting ... Show

This piece of art originally was displayed in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Scott, n.d.).
Shortly after it was displayed, the flag display was taken down because of the new law making it
illegal to place the flag on the floor or ground (Scott, n.d.). However, Judge Kenneth L. Gillis argued
that the new law about the flag not being able to touch the ground could not be used to prosecute
artists because of the freedom of speech from the first amendment (The Thomas Jefferson Center,
2005).
Dread Scott created this artwork so he was in charge of developing it. I was not able to find if it has
moved from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago or if it was bought or sold to

Reflection For Service Learning Reflection
Service Learning Reflection For my biology related service learning, I performed two tasks to help out
the community and still relate it to biology. For one of the tasks, I volunteered in Millbrae by picking
up trash around the city for three hours. We started in Central Park and we worked our way all the way
towards Mills High School. I did this activity with a fellow AP Biology student, Calla Yang. We took
buckets for trash and bags for recycling and picked up any trash we saw around the city and made sure
to separate according to trash and recycling. We uses the little alligator grabbing tools in order to
effectively pick up the trash in a short amount of time. The grabbers helped to reach trash in bushes
and in hard to reach spaces. My second biology related activity took place at a carnivorous plant
nursery in Half Moon Bay, I participated here for fifteen hours because the person I participated with,
Frances Claesson, had no hours so I stuck with her so she could get all of hers and I could roll my
extra hours over into the second semester. At the plant nursery, we planted all types of different
carnivorous plants, learned how each one functions, helped with maintenance around the green house,
and how to clean up the look of plants. We usually took small plants that were either pitcher plants and
sundews and transported them in four inch pots so they would be able to grow into their full and
natural size. We had to make sure the roots stayed intact and that that soil

Reflection Paper On Cycling
One must be willing to persevere through tough times in order to reach the good times. On September
17, last weekend, I earned what I consider to be my best race result in my young cycling career. After
a high speed crash in the road race the day before, I managed to bounce back and earned a third place
in the Pensacola Cycling Classic pro / one / two criterium. This perfectly exemplifies one of the many
life lessons that cycling has taught me over the course of the past five years. I would have never
learned these lessons, had I not received my first road bike in 2012. My bike has given me more than I
ever thought was possible. I have found a passion and a niche that has engulfed my life, and I love
every second of it. I have made friends from California, all the way to the far reaches of Maine. I have
suffered through the high desert of Bend, Oregon and labored up the mountains of Greenville, South
Carolina. I have experienced the high of screaming down a mountain at fifty miles an hour, filling
your lungs with dread, but making your heart feel as if it is floating. These people I have met, places I
have been, and feelings I have felt have molded me into a modge podge of regional cultures. In fact,
this modge podge will become international, as I will be traveling to Odense, Denmark to race for
Team USA in 2018. This will be yet another once in a lifetime opportunity, all thanks to cycling.
During my early years of racing, I was able to succeed without a large

  • 2. Sex And The City Chapter 4 As the professor stated, chapter 4 is indeed an interesting chapter. While reading this chapter I related it to the famous television show Sex and The City. This tv show depicts New York City as the city that loves sex, fame and the social life. Dating nowadays is not the same, courting is no longer a thing and one night stands has become even more popular. Both women and men pay more attention to the status of the person, body figure, where he or she may reside, the fancy clothes and so on rather than who the person is and getting to know them more. I know many of us, including myself might get side tracked at become attracted to his or her body or looks rather than the person physically. However, it is up to us to become focus again a make that decision wether we are 100 percent attracted to the person not because of the riches and social status that they possess. The preference that stood out to me the most was the presence for high social status. Money, cars and lavish vacation and living has become the new relationship ... Many New Yorkers have adapted to the fast pace life of the 9 to 5 job, come home and do it all over again. Therefore many people people to do not have the time to think about children. • 4. Analyzing the Surprise Ending in Descartes Discourse on... Surprise Ending in Descartes In the book Discourses on the Method and the Meditations, author Rene Descartes famously questions the existence of humanity. His most famous quotation, the one for whom he is most remembered is I think therefore I am (Descartes 11). According to this idea, so long as a being has the ability to think then they existed. Animals have brains and therefore they must exist. In order to truly, exist, to be a thinking entity, a person or organism must utilize the ability granted to them by their mind. This is the focus of much of this text, the nature of existence and the line between what is true and what we only imagine or perceive to be true. For the majority of the text, the philosopher asks questions in trying to formulate his own identity and indeed whether or not he existed as all. It would be assumed that the end of the book would be a conclusion of this internal dialogue where Descartes definitively states his position on human existence. However, Descartes instead devotes the end of the text to a wholly new concept: namely he applies the question of existence to a being above humanity. At the end of the text, instead of continuing on with these questions Descartes instead discusses the idea of God and whether or not He exists. At the time of the Royal Society which Descartes was a member of, the researchers and philosophers were trying to understand everything about the world, something which actually is impossible to do. • 5. The Mayan Civilization The Mayan civilization was a bountiful society that flourished from around 300 BCE to 900 CE and, according to some, lasted for up to 3000 years. During the height of their civilization, the Maya built a prominent society and created many inventions, some of which are used today. They are well known for creating the first writing system called cuneiform, the concept of zero, calendars, mathematics, ball courts, and the length of the solar year measured at about 365.242 days. Having first migrated to the lowlands of Mesoamerica, where soil was weak, the Maya used many intense agricultural methods such as slash and burn, irrigation, and terracing to their advantage; they were able to produce plentiful amounts of crops and thrive in a lush grassy area. They traded numerous luxury goods with their neighbors in Mesoamerica such as cacao beans, rare animal hides, fine artwork and jewelry, jade, and even gold. Though they often fought with nearby Mayan cities, they had strong political and economic systems and a social hierarchy, kings and high priests being the most important. It would seem that the Maya didn t have any real obstacles to their reign, and for a long time, they lived in prosperity and peace. However, near the beginning of the 8th century CE, a large wave of abandonment swept throughout the cities, starting from the southern regions and quickly moving upward. From this point on, these abandonments would mark the ending of the long reign of the Maya. The very last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Thomas Clement Douglas s The Greatest Canadian Thomas Clement Douglas, or Tommy Douglas was a prominent Canadian politician during the 1900s, as both a premier and a minister of health in the House of Commons. Though he was born in Scotland, his family moved to Canada at a very early age. Tommy Douglas spent most of his early life in Manitoba and most of his later life in Saskatchewan. Before he got into politics, Douglas was a Baptist preacher. He accomplished lots in his time and was even voted as the number one on the CBC television show the Greatest Canadian . Tommy and Irma had two daughters. Shirley who was born in 1934, and Joan, who was adopted later on. An interesting fact, famous actor Kiefer Sutherland is the son of Shirley Douglas, making him Tommy Douglas grandson. Tommy Douglas cared deeply for his family. Tommy was born 1904 in Camelon, Scotland. When Tommy Douglas was 6 years old, his family relocated to the city of Winnipeg in Canada. Unfortunately, before Tommy had left Scotland, he had fallen and wounded his right knee which led to Osteomyelitis(an infection of the bone). Many treatments in Scotland had to be done to help him recover, even though later in Winnipeg the Osteomyelitis started up again. There was not much that could be done as medical care at that time in Canada was very expensive. His family was not wealthy. The only option that seemed present to them was to amputate his leg, until news came that a well known medical surgeon had wanted to operate on Tommy as long as his parents agreed to allow his medical students to observe. This event had never left Tommy s memory. In 1918, at age 14, Tommy Douglas had dropped out of high school to pursue a job that could earn his family more money. 1919, was the year of the Winnipeg Strike. Tommy had witnessed the horror of the strike firsthand. He saw policemen beating strikers with clubs, he saw law enforcement shoot workers with guns, he saw cars set on fire. ... • 7. Thomas Paine The Crisis No. 1 Essay Thomas Paine writes The Crisis No. 1 in order to convince the Americans to continue to stay united throughout this war. Paine uses patriotism as well as, logic and reasoning in order to convince the colonists. Thomas Paine makes good use of patriotism in The Crisis No.1 in order to make his argument more effective. He states These are the times that try men s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman ( The Crisis No. 1). What signifies it to me, whether he who does it is a king or a common man (The Crisis No. 1). Thomas Paine is successful when he says this to support his argument of the Americans remaining United during this time against Britain. By using logic he attempts to poke at the Americans common sense. He tells them the obvious, he knows no person in their right mind would willingly let someone into their house to take their belongings, so he uses it to his advantage. He forces the colonist to consider if they wouldn t let their neighbor take their things why let Britain do it?Why allow yourself to remain under the control of a not so good King? • 8. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak Adversity is a large factor in the shaping process of one s character development, but it always varies from person to person. In his novel The Book Thief, Markus Zusak integrates adversity into the lives of his characters through the political struggles during the era of World War II, to ultimately shape their personal character and identity. The development by adversity is demonstrated largely through three different characters: Liesel Meminger, Hans Hubermann, and Max Vandenberg. Liesel Meminger faces a couple accounts of hardships, or adversities, before even arriving at the doorstep of her foster parents Rosa and Hans Hubermann. In the fifth chapter of The Book Thief, Liesel s brother dies directly in front of her own eyes, resulting in endless dreams every night about her brother, always ending in his death; this also creates pathos for the reader because Liesel s pain and agony is visible every single day, but is being used to strengthen her relationship with her foster father, Hans ( Papa ). Another factor in the development of Hans and Liesel s relationship is the loss of Liesel s mother. A loss usually signifies a death, but in Liesel s case, it signifies her mother leaving and never to answer the letters that are continuously sent to her. Hans Hubermann has a soft and docile character, and is not only used to comfort Liesel after her nightmares, but to become the parent figure that Liesel craves as a young 10 year old girl, especially after losing her entire ... • 9. The Causes Of Student Stress In Education It is often said that college students of the current generation exhibit some of the highest recorded stress levels. There are many theories as to why these stress levels continue to rise. Perhaps the main reason behind this rising stress is the fact that society is choosing to acknowledge its existence, thus making the terminology more commonly known and revealing its detrimental effects the to the public. The purpose of this paper is to analyze what has changed over the years in regards to education, what seem to be common stressors among students, how these students learning mechanisms are affected, and how America can work to prevent academic stress. An important topic to investigate in regards to stress levels includes that of differences between generations. More specifically, it is important to analyze what has changed over the years; in doing so, new findings as to why student stress levels are rising may be discovered. One example of a change is simply the number of students choosing to enroll in college. Almost every year, college admissions are increasing, mainly because it is becoming universally accepted to go to college and attain a degree. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Enrollment in degree granting institutions increased by 11 percent from 1991 to 2001 and another 32 percent from 2001 to 2011 (Novotney, 2014). With more students enrolling in college, there will consequentially be more students reporting feelings of stress and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. One Of The Main Problems With The Law Is Injustice In The One of the main problems with the law is injustice in the criminal justice system. There are so many innocent people serving time in jail. The criminal justice system in America was created to keep communities safe, to respect and restore victims, and to return offenders who leave prison to be self sufficient and law abiding. What the system has become is a monumental failure that our states and nation can no longer afford. There has been a growth in crime, but that may be because of the growth of technology and receiving information. Wrongful conviction and prison overcrowding are known as major issues in the criminal justice system because prisoners are held liable for crimes they did not commit and taxpayers pay for the care ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to statistics, Blacks have a disproportionate representation in the prison system. Some say that Blacks and Latinos and more likely to be charged for a crime because of their race (Blumstein p.39). Incarceration rates between Blacks and Whites are disproportionate, with a ratio of seven blacks to one white. This is a profound example of racial discrimination (Gabbidon, and Greene). Most say that the main cause of wrongful conviction is corruption in the justice system. The Justice System may convict an innocent of a crime just so someone is held liable for said crime, and in order for them to move on to the next case. We have all heard or read, whether on the news or in the paper, about criminal cases where individuals are convicted of crimes and sometimes even given the death penalty; and in most of these cases they were given a public lawyer, that may have been inexperienced with these types of cases, or did not put as much work into the case as they should have. Which led to a clearly innocent individual being held liable for a crime. Such incompetency on the part of a defense attorney undoubtedly results in some wrongful convictions (Warner). Lives have been known to be torn apart by prosecutorial misconduct. Numerous safeguards have been placed in our judicial system, to help protect against wrongful convictions of innocent people. One of many protections our judicial system provides to protect against wrongful convictions is the presumption ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Tropch Synthesis Essay Effect of Cobalt Based Catalysts on Product Distribution in Fischer Tropsch Synthesis. Introduction: Fossil energy sources such as oil, coal, and natural gases are become the major source for the energy which are formed from died prehistoric plants and animals buried in the layers of land over a million of years. But there are lot of impacts on the environment by the use of fossil fuels through combustion resulting in the emission of greenhouse gases. Over the past 20 years three fourths of human caused emissions came from the burning of fossil fuels. Crude oil plays an important role in the production of energy and united states consume more energy from petroleum than from any other sources. In 2014, 19 million barrels of petroleum was consumed by total U.S. i.e., 35% of all the energy consumed in the United States. Increase in population, industrialization and demand for energy, oil is diminishing at a faster rate each year. Therefore, it would cause a fossil fuel supply limitation with large economic impact, and the environment problems are both driving forces for actions towards a more sustainable energy system. The octane number of the hydrocracked wax is improved by processes such as isomerization, catalytic reforming, alkylation and oligomerization. • 12. Change In The Arctic Ocean Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the early 1800s, humans have been releasing ever increasing amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels. About half of that man made CO2 has been absorbed by the oceans, increasing the concentration of carbonic acid, which has caused the oceans to become more acidic. Over the past 300 million years, ocean pH has averaged about 8.2. Today, it is around 8.1, a 25% increase in acidity over the past two centuries. That increase is projected to reach 150% by the end of this century, a rate of change not seen in 65 million years. We are not able to predict all the nuances of climate change, but a few are obvious. The planet s winds are driven in large part by the temperature difference between the poles and the tropics. Since the Arctic is heating faster than the tropics, the temperature difference is decreasing and wind speeds are slowing. They have already slowed in the northern hemisphere by between 5 and 15% in the past 30 years. One consequence of reduced winds is erratic behavior of the northern jet stream, the oscillations of which sometimes bring cold air south and warm air north. More erratic oscillations could cause blizzards, tropical cyclones, droughts and heat waves in unexpected places at unexpected times. Our computer models are not robust enough to predict what and where. Ocean currents also will change because of global warming. The melting of Arctic ice dilutes salt water moving north from the tropics in the Gulf Stream, making the water less dense, and thus less inclined to sink for the return journey. The warming Arctic Ocean reduces the temperature differentials that drive ocean currents. Changing ocean currents will have effects on everything from the Indian monsoons to the pattern of El Niño to the surprisingly moderate climate now enjoyed in northern ... Childhood is the age span ranging from birth to adolescence and its non specific for it can imply a varying range of years in human development reference. The age ranges anywhere from 12 years to 15years with 18years being most common. Previous research done by sociologists focused on children primarily in terms of socialization and within the context of the family. The new sociology of childhood argues that children inhabit more than one world, worlds that may well conflict those of adults, those of children s own making, and those that children ... The Marxist perspective argues that childhood is socially constructed because the bourgeoisie need a better educated and skilled work force to cope with complex machines and follow instructions. The family provided food, shelter and clothing and by paying taxes provides education and healthcare for those who will be the next generation of workers. All of this benefited bourgeoisie at all most no expense to them. The ideology of responsibility of parents ensures that parents make sacrifices to bring up their children. Therefore, the bourgeoisie benefit from the concept of childhood. Therefore by arguing that childhood is social constructed, the new sociology of childhood enables one to understand young people from a different perspective. Such notions of childhood innocence, vulnerability, helplessness, economic dependence among others are scrutinized with regard to broader structural forces. Thus young people even though by virtue of their biological and psychological make up may be similar across all cultures, what they are expected to do or how they view themselves differ from place to place, situation to situation. For instance even though the United Nations universalize childhood by defining it as, Childhood is the time for children to be in school and at play, to grow strong and confident with the love and encouragement of their family and an extended community of caring adults (UNICEF 2005). ... • 15. Diabetes Essay examples Diabetes Diabetes, Diabetes Mellitus, is a chronic illness this means that it has no cure and the symptoms persist over a long period of time. This illness is a result of an imbalance of hormones, insulin, produced in the pancreas. Insulin plays an important role in how the body uses food. Insulin enables the cells in the bloodstream to absorb and use glucose for fuel. If the pancreas produces too little or no insulin or if the insulin doesn t work properly the person may become diabetic. Therefore, diabetics are not able to properly convert food into fuels needed by the body to function, which can seriously lead to physical consequences. Normally the level of glucose in the body rises after a person eats a meal. This rise in blood glucose stimulates the beta cells to release insulin. Insulin then either helps body cells take up glucose to use as energy or promotes the conversation of glucose to fat, which are used by the cells later. Some glucose maybe stored in the liver this is called glycogen. Then the level of glucose drops (usually several hours after the meal has been eaten), other cells in the pancreas stimulate the conversion of glycogen to glucose and its release into the bloodstream. In this way, the level of glucose in the bloodstream stays relatively constant until the next meal is eaten. The body tends to deal with this imbalance by filtering out excess glucose throughout the kidneys, resulting in high levels of sugar in the urine. As glucose level rises the kidneys over whelmed and don t function normally. They lose their ability to absorb much water the result is frequent urination. This is commonly the earliest sign of diabetes. It is often followed by unquenchable thirst as the body tries to regain the lost fluids. It often seems that more fluid comes out than went in. The two topics I shall mainly focus on are the eventual insanity of Duror the gamekeeper and also his evil towards Calum and Neil, the two cone gatherers. As I read the book, I discovered that Duror was an evil and disturbed human being who was driven to insanity by his hate towards the cone gatherers. The evil inside Duror is the book s focus, although other themes appear throughout the book. Evil is described in Chapter 8 as a presence like air, infecting everyone . She rang Mr. Tulloch the overseer of the Ardmore men s (cone gatherers) work and he said it should be all right. As Duror was about to leave, the telephone rang. Mr Tulloch was explaining that Calum had certain sensibilities, especially towards the deer drive. Duror, when asked by Lady Runcie Campbell if Calum and Neil were really needed, he insisted they were so Lady Runcie Campbell told Mr Tulloch the same. In Chapter 5, Duror seemed to take great pleasure in telling the cone gatherers about their necessary attendance of the upcoming deer drive. Neil got very irate about it and said that Duror was deceiving them by trying to get them to do things, that they don t particularly want to do. Neil knew that Calum was never asked to take part in deer drives because of his particular sensibilities and then accused Duror of deceiving them. Duror was silent. The authors hypothesized the possibility of this effect being due to an exaggeration of the effect of these catheters in earlier trials because of an advantage of newer silicone catheters over the older latex catheters which dilutes the effect in later trials. • 22. Difference Between Art And Contemporary Art Christian Casas Rafael Hernandez LIT3400 The Everyday A typical way of relating social/political issues to art assumes that art represents the thing one way or another. But there can be a more interesting perspective, which is looking at the field of art as a place of work. Basically look at what it does not what it shows. Amid all other forms of art, fine art has been associated with post Fordist ideology. Post Fordism is a popular system of economically based on production, consumption and has been in most industrialized countries since the late 20th century. Contemporary art is not an out of this world discipline hidden away in some remote building. In fact, it s the opposite because it positions itself in the thick of things. It can function as a brand name without a brand feeding off the bits and pieces of social and political issues. Presently, contemporary art has grown apart from important hubs, which gives the artist a wider range of production and provides various opportunities for showcasing the work. In contrast, this has not always been the case. Artist in novels about portraitures are depicted as servants due to the flow of cash. Art should be functioning on its own without the need of an institutional backing in order to create separation between the artist and their work as well as what the work can do . • 23. Rhetorical Analysis Of Jfk Inaugural Address In John F. Kennedy s Inaugural Address on January 20, 1961, Kennedy addresses the citizens of the United States as well as the country s allies in regards to his plans on how he will run the country during his time as president. He speaks with passion about hope for an improved United States, as well as an improved planet overall. To deliver his message profoundly and clearly, Kennedy uses many rhetorical devices in his speech that give his message a conversational tone as well as a clear and compelling structure. Firstly, Kennedy uses many metaphors to place a meaningful emphasis on his words. When he speaks to members of the audience who have just become freed from tyranny, Kennedy uses a metaphor to describe why this will not occur in the United States when he states, ... we shall always hope to find them strongly supporting their own freedom and to remember that, in the past, those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside . Kennedy speaks of dictators who attempted to overtake a country and ultimately were destroyed by this choice. The use of diction here promises that he understands the limits to his own power as president, and will not push such important boundaries. Another excellent metaphor appears when the president says, .... we offer a special pledge... to assist free men and free governments in casting off the chains of poverty . Here, Kennedy stresses the idea that poverty prevents people from advancing in society. The chains are not physical nor visible, but can be felt heavily across the bodies of the less fortunate as they struggle to make enough money to survive. While both of these metaphors are compelling to readers, Kennedy also chooses to use the word we in each statement. This choice allows the listener to feel connected personally with the president, and creates a sense of a personal relationship as Kennedy continues. Secondly, Kennedy also uses the rhetorical devices of polysyndeton and asyndeton in his speech. These devices create a rhythm throughout the speaker s words that work to entrance the listener. Within the first few paragraphs of the infamous address, Kennedy employs polysyndeton. ... we shall pay any price, bear any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Children between the ages of five months to two years are at a stage where they start familiarizing with their surroundings and have different reactions to situations. The surrounding where an infant grows greatly determines his or her development. The primary determinant of the development of infants is the parent infant interaction (Crain, 2015). The first bond or relation of a child is with its biological parents or guardians in the case of orphaned children. In this paper, I will analyze the parent infant interaction of a family of four members comprising of father, mother and two daughters. The mother is a physician in the referral hospital. The mother is a hardworking woman who is obsessed with perfection. She is specialized in pediatrics hence aware of many developmental milestones in infants. The youngest daughter is one and a half years old whereas the firstborn daughter is four years old. For this assignment, an observation of the younger kid was done in the apartment where the family lives. According to the observation, the younger child is scared of strangers based on her reaction when carried by other people who are not part of the family. She cries a lot and seems scared of the unfamiliar faces. She is in particular resistant to the male individuals. She is slightly friendly to the females who carry her but remains calm. The reaction was prominent when one family visited during the observation. The friend was a bearded young man. His hair was frightening to the kid as she could cry loudly when being carried by him. The positive attitude towards the female was recognized after the wife of the visiting family carried the kid. The reaction can be related to the child s preference for gender. The behavior disturbs the mother as she thinks this might have a negative impact on her child s sexuality. She is worried that the kid even at her old age is more likely to have a preference for female individuals than male individuals. Furthermore, based on the observation, the kid is highly attracted to brightly colored patterns as opposed to dull or darker shades of colors. According to the mom, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If it does decide carefully, for the outcome is yours to deal with. Each individual person has their own set of ethics. This set of moral principals can vary radically, depending on the subject, circumstance, or even upbringing. On any given day an individuals morals can change depending on the happenings of that day or previous days. One tiny event may have such a large impact on an individual that they may choose to rethink their whole ethical system. The ethics you determine are yours and yours alone. You do not need a book explaining why you feel the way you do. Each individual has suffered through different hardships and has breezed through different high periods in their life. Ethics build as a person ages and experiences more. The more you have seen and witnessed, the more able you are to draw conclusions as to whether you have a point of view on that particular subject. In addition to individual and personal codes of ethics, each person also has their own method of making decisions. • 33. Theories Of Disengagement Theories of Ageing The Disengagement Theory: This theory claims that it is natural and normal for the elder to detach from personal relationships and society as they age and withdraw from the roles they played in adulthood. The Disengagement Theory was created by social scientists Elaine Cumming and William Earle Henry and it was published in the Growing Old book in 1961. These two theorists had 9 postulates that confirm the disengagement theory. People lose social ties to those around them because they expect death, and their abilities to engage with others deteriorate over time. • 34. The Negative Effects Of The Media On The Women s Body Image The increasing and widespread use of media, as well as it tremendous ability to influence its audience, has raised various concerns over the effects the media has on its viewers. One of the fields of increasing concerns is the idea that the media portrays unrealistic body images and that these portrayals have negative consequences on their viewers, especially so for women. Women have always been associated with ideals of beauty and a particular body image. The question arises as to how far the media further perpetuate these models and body images, and what are the consequences of these effects? When the media works to perpetuate such ideals of beauty and body image, the majority of the female population, who do not conform to such ideals and body type, fall prey to psychological issues resulting from body dissatisfaction such as depression, self hate, negative moods, and emotions, particularly for the younger women. Such negative emotions, when evoked, can lead to negative consequences and actions for the affected female population, which include drastic, harmful steps such as crash diets, self harm, or cosmetic surgery. Effects of Media on the Women s Body Image Many studies have been based on the concerning effects of media portrayals of beauty and body images on women. Yamammiya et al. (2005) write that research on media images show around 94% of the female characters shown on television are thinner than the average American woman. Moreover, these characteristics of ... • 42. The People Over Weight And Obese In today society the majority of people are over weight. The USA is considered to have the most people over weight and obese. So what is wrong with our system of eating ? Why are other countries considered to be healthier then the US. Part of the reason is the way we where brought up. And another reason is the the foods we are given at easy access. But that isn t to say the stores don t play a role in the way that you shop. So what could be a solution to living a healthier life style. Being healthy is a lot more then being lean, its about being smart enough to not letting the stores trick you into buying what they want you to buy, and rather what you need to buy. When you walk into the store to buy milk, bread, meat, and produce. You ll notice that all those things tend to be at the back of the store. They are forcing you to walk through the middle ails where all the unnecessary things they want you to buy are located. So by the time you ve reached the back of the store you have 5 10 items that you didn t intend to buy. Another example is placement on the shelves. The majority of people are right handed so they will make more right turns and as they turn to the right with the cart they place things at eye level to the right so it will catch your eye. Another tactic is since many countries in the world read left to right they place the higher marked items on the left in hope you ll buy the more expensive product before getting to the cheaper alternative on the right. ... For one of the tasks, I volunteered in Millbrae by picking up trash around the city for three hours. We started in Central Park and we worked our way all the way towards Mills High School. I did this activity with a fellow AP Biology student, Calla Yang. We took buckets for trash and bags for recycling and picked up any trash we saw around the city and made sure to separate according to trash and recycling. On September 17, last weekend, I earned what I consider to be my best race result in my young cycling career. After a high speed crash in the road race the day before, I managed to bounce back and earned a third place in the Pensacola Cycling Classic pro / one / two criterium. This perfectly exemplifies one of the many life lessons that cycling has taught me over the course of the past five years. I would have never learned these lessons, had I not received my first road bike in 2012. My bike has given me more than I ever thought was possible. I have found a passion and a niche that has engulfed my life, and I love every second of it. I have made friends from California, all the way to the far reaches of Maine. I have suffered through the high desert of Bend, Oregon and labored up the mountains of Greenville, South Carolina. I have experienced the high of screaming down a mountain at fifty miles an hour, filling your lungs with dread, but making your heart feel as if it is floating. In fact, this modge podge will become international, as I will be traveling to Odense, Denmark to race for Team USA in 2018.
