Soil Erosion Essay
Soil erosion is a natural event that affects all land. In farming and other agriculture, soil erosion refers
to the weathering away of topsoil by the natural forces such as wind, water or through acts associated
with farming such as tilling. Soil erosion can be something that happens slowly over time or
something that can happen in the blink of an eye causing severe land damage. This article shows the
cause and effect of soil erosion on farm and agriculture land.
Wind erosion occurs mostly in flat, dry areas with fine, sandy soil. Wind erosion is caused when the
wind moves topsoil from one place and deposits it to another. The speed and extent of the wind
depend on the amount of soil erosion done. Extreme wind erosion can cause severe amount damage to
land and crops. Wind erosion damages land and crops in many ways, one such way is soil drifting.
Soil drifting can lead to soil infertility which in turn can lead to poor crop growth and production,
especially in areas where wind erosion is very common. Continual wind erosion in one area over time
can change the texture of the soil by loss of sand, silt, nutrients and organic matter. The removal of
such matter from the soil makes it harder for the soil to hold moisture, making it more difficult for
crops to grow. Wind erosion also damages crops by burial of plants and seeds or unearthing of newly
planted seeds, resulting in expensive delays and making it necessary to replant. Abundant woods and
vegetation around

The Roman Catholic Church
There are always issues in the world that we have to face, they change with time but a lot of them
seem to have a common theme and that is indifference. I cannot help but think that people are
uncomfortable with anything that is different from the norm. Many of us are set in our ways and we
quickly remove any one who threatens that. A lot of us come from a set of foundations that help create
who we are. While doing research for this paper I searched for topics that interest me. I also searched
for a topic that anyone would be able to give their opinion on. This search lead me to the 266th Pope
of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis. Much to my surprise he is extremely popular in this
modern time. Many call him the pope of the new world. The model of millions of Catholics around
the world. As a child my family often had figures from the Catholic Church around the house. Saints,
crosses and even small statues of popes who served in the past. As I grew older I came to realize that
this was a common trend in a Dominican family home. As I reflect back into what my childhood was
like and how huge of impact religion had on my core foundations. I thought of family members who I
thought had the biggest impact.
I was a caregiver to my aunt, she had stage four lung cancer, this involved me helping her get ready
for the day but before she could do anything in the morning my aunt would watch a church service
with her rosary in hand. This would take an at least an hour of my day

Symbolism In A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings
Society can be a smooth talker, it can slyly belittle someone until they fit the stereotype society has
placed upon them. Some people are willing to sever past the constant bigotry and persevere towards
the person they want to become, but others get stuck and fall into the trap called the pigeonhole. The
line separating those who ignore society s harsh accusations and those who listen are classified
directly with how the targets react towards discrimination. Ifemelu, the main character from
Americanah by Chimamanda Adichie, was a Nigerian women that lived in America who received an
abundant amount of discrimination towards her African race and accent. Within a short story by
Gabriel Marquez, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, people treated ... Show more content on

He spent his time trying to get comfortable in his borrowed nest... The old man disregarded the fact
that he was being shown as an admissionable attraction and carried on business as usual. The angel
showed no signs of annoyance, spitefulness, or anger. He simply did what he needed to do: eat, sleep,
dry wings, and repeat. The angel seemed to favor his own company rather than the company of the
townsfolk, so he generally kept to himself, hence why he took no part in his own act. The angel did
not allow himself to be captured by the stereotypical strings of society, instead he continued to be
himself: the mysterious angel. Another way the angel reacted to discrimination was by avoiding it, But
he [angel] must have known the reason for those changes, for he was quite careful that no one should
notice them, that no one should hear the sea chanteys that he sometimes sang under the stars. The old
man was aware that the sudden changes of appearance (growth of new feathers on his wings) would
cause new attention, therefore, he hid in the far corners of the farm away from people who could

Pros And Cons
The New Jersey Gubernatorial election is impending and citizens will be able to select the candidate
that they think will best serve their needs. New Jersey s Constitution includes that these general
elections shall be held annually on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November also, the time
of holding such elections may be altered by law. Currently there are two candidates, Kim Guadagno
who is on the Republican side and Phil Murphy who stands on the Democratic side. Both candidates
have contradictory perspectives on topics that are spoken about during the debates. I believe Phil
Murphy is the best candidate due to his promising ideas on controversial issues that are seen in New
Jersey. Considering that there are more democrats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This demonstrates Murphy s initiative in fixing the economy through various beneficial solutions.
Doing so he will be helping the people of New Jersey by lowering property taxes, which individuals
can finally be relieved to hear. Murphy also wants to be more strict with spending on transit to ensure
that the roads and bridges are functional rather than crowded with tolls. Personally, I think this is very
efficient because these two factors make New Jersey very expensive to live in and by lowering taxes
and being more strict with transit the economy can steadily progress to a stable point. Murphy wants
to grow the economy due to the state being ranked last or near last in growth and inequalities. He
states, We need an economy that works for all New Jerseyans not just the special interests, I flat out
reject the us versus them approach to our economy, it is time we get back to thinking about we (Phil
Murphy). Murphy wants to achieve this by raising the wage to $15 an hour, ensure equal pay for equal
work, and make millionaires and corporations pay their fair share of taxes. If this is successful then the
economic standing that New Jersey holds will soon exponentially rise to the top. At the same time,
Murphy wants to fix the economy so that more is invested in schools, family care and the elimination
of poverty. Along with this Murphy also

North Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL)
Environmental welfare has become one of our most important priorities since the widely spread
awareness of climate change. Recently, there has been a controversial subject arousing from the
midwest that is allegedly threatening our environment the construction of Dakota Access Pipeline
(DAPL). This $3.8 billion, 1,172 mile pipeline project will be crossing four states from North Dakota
through Illinois to supply crude oil coming from the oil rich Bakken area (Yan). DAPL will
supposedly create new jobs like construction and maintenance, lower gas prices as we do not have to

The Hebrew Bible
In the course of human history, few books have fascinated scholars to the extent of the Hebrew Bible.
This is not to say that biblical scholarship has been static. Instead, it has evolved over the course of
many centuries of scrutiny, both of preceding scholarship and the Bible itself. Scholarship relating to
the Hebrew Bible, then, is often grouped into two categories: the work of the ancient interpreters and
that of modern scholarship. Operating from two very different sets of assumptions, there are many
similarities and differences that can be found between the ways the ancient interpreters and modern
scholars read and understand the Bible. The ancient interpreters, according to Kugel, were Jews and
early Christians living and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The text clearly states that if man eats of the tree of the knowledge of good and bad, he will instantly
die. However, according to Genesis 5:5, Adam lived a total of 930 years. Ancient interpreters viewed
this not as a contradiction or error, but rather an instance which can be clarified by using other
passages (such as Psalm 90:4, which equates 1 day to 1000 years in the sight of the Lord.) This is
discussed in the book of Jubilees, an apocryphal work attributed to the ancient interpreters. Thus, the
ancient interpreters did not view Genesis 2:15 17 as contradictory or troubling, but rather drew upon
their foundational assumptions to aid their understanding of a text.
Modern scholars, however, have very a different understanding of the same text. Since the Bible
contains no cryptic meaning, the issue of Adam s death cannot be explained using other biblical texts.
This, then, must be an error which exists within the text. Modern scholars noticed something else,
however, which caused them to closely examine the language used in Genesis 1 3. The portrayal of
God in Genesis 1 differed greatly from the portrayal in Genesis 2 3. This led to another key difference

What Is Rush Hour Racial Stereotypes
The three part movie series Rush Hour uses stereotypical references, gender, race, male gaze, and
intersectionality throughout each of the three movies. The other significant impact of the film series is
that the main characters were not white males, they were minorities. The stereotypical references used
throughout the trilogy use all kinds, from Asian jokes, black jokes, female jokes, etc. It is one of the
funny childhood movies I remember watching growing up as a kid, and never understood that most of
the humor dialogue in the scenes are racist stereotypes and sexual. This movie uses these types of
media concepts to bring in humor to the film and tries to make it seem a little more realistic when first

In the first movie, Rush Hour when the two main characters Carter (Chris Tucker) and Lee (Jackie
Chan) meet each other, Carter assumes that Lee does not speak English and then says an infamous line
of Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? . This first dialogue between these two
characters has introduced a common stereotype with non Americans, which is that they cannot speak
English. This is an assumption that sadly, most Americans have. In Matt Lee s The Manipulation and
Role of Stereotypes in the Rush Hour Trilogy he breaks down the racial stereotypes throughout each
of the films. Regarding the racial jokes, audience members reportedly did not take as much offense to
the stereotypes because the two characters who were making these jokes, were minorities. Lee s
research also says that neutralizing the racial jokes helped since Carter and Lee ended up becoming
friends. In the beginning, it was not the case; they were just around each other when the jokes started.
In the same paragraph, it is stated that since Rush Hour used the ability to depict a positive image of
an African American and an Asian it ends up canceling out the racist stereotypes in the film.

Presidential Campaign Essay
The Presidential campaign is a very major topic of discussion. There are a lot of issues and
conversations that come with these campaigns. While there are many candidates running, at the end of
the day only one president is chosen. There are many pressing problems of the day in terms of the
presidential campaign. This campaign in particular comes with a lot of responsibilities and these
candidates need to prove that they are capable of attacking any issue that comes their way. Politically,
economically, and even socially. The president is chosen by the citizens of America and they consider
all the factors possible before voting because whoever the president is, will be having a say as to how

While Bush has his concerns on the economy, he also brings up climate change and a solution he
proposes on executing if elected president. In an article, it is mentioned that Bush proposed a solution
to this climate change issue and it states, Bush has said the U.S. should work with other countries to
cut carbon emissions and has stressed the role of private industry in addressing the problem (PBS 1).
Jeb Bush wants the United States to seek help from other countries and try to control the climate
change by that. His solution is not realistic because even is the carbon emissions are cut out, there are
other ways to hurt nature which effects the climate. His solution is worth a try but it cannot be
guaranteed that those are the reasons our climate is changing. He needs to put a strict enforcement of
no littering because even though there are fines, no one really abides by that rule. Other things
affecting the climate would be pollution, so smoke and gas, and that will never lessen because people
are dependent on cars, and other means of transportation that requires gas and pollutes the air with the
smoke they release. Another issue brought up by Jeb Bush is gun control, he believes that people that
own guns should have more rights towards them but that cannot be good for the people in the United
States because murders and kidnapping is already an issue as it is with or without any

The genesis of Edward Scissorhands came from a drawing by then teenaged director Tim Burton,
which reflected his feelings of isolation and being unable to communicate to people around him in
suburban Santa Clarita Valley, California. Burton stated that he was often alone and had trouble
retaining friendships. I get the feeling people just got this urge to want to leave me alone for some
reason, I don t know exactly why . During pre production of Beetlejuice, Burton hired Caroline
Thompson, then a young novelist, to write the Edward Scissorhands screenplay as a spec script.
Burton was impressed with her short novel, First Born, which was about an abortion that came back to
life . Burton felt First Born had the same psychological elements he wanted to showcase in Edward
Scissorhands.

Literary Devices In Norton Juster s The Phantom Tollbooth
Norton Juster s book, The Phantom Tollbooth successfully used different types of literary devices to
introduce the main theme of the novel which was the importance of education. Juster told the story of
a boy named Milo who was described as, ...a boy... who didn t know what to do with himself not just
sometimes, but always (1961, p. 9). Milo was very indecisive and overall, he leads a pretty boring and
uneventful life. However, all of that changed when he came home from school one day and noticed a
mysterious tollbooth in his bedroom. The tollbooth made him start to realize the value of education
and the importance of enjoying what was going on in his day to day life. The literary devices Juster
chose to use in his writing increased the quality of his work and they also helped allow him to engage
his readers in what they were reading more. Juster uses a wide variety of different types of literary
devices throughout the entire story but three of the most common are irony, puns, and allegory. One of
the most ironic moments in the book is when Milo, Tock, and Humbug enter the Valley of Sound on
their way to Digitopolis. From the time they entered the valley it is obvious that something was
missing. Juster wrote, at first it was difficult to tell just what had changed it all looked the same and it
all smelled the same but for some reason, nothing sounded the same (1961, p. 144). By making the
Valley of Sound of all places completely silent in the book, readers become more

The Negative Effects Of Humanitarian Intervention
The basic principle of common morality states that humans have rights not as member of particular
community, but as members of human community and there is a common moral world (Rashid, 2012).
Human rights are shared universally but what happens when these human rights are violated? When is
the right time to intervene when someone is being harassed in the street? Humanitarian intervention
should occur then the targeted group s violation is violated to an extent where they can no longer
defend themselves. Humanitarian intervention may be seen as inefficient and ineffective due to the
time it takes to occur, and the bias that comes from the intervention, however humanitarian
intervention is necessary to monitor on a state s treatment towards it s citizens and it saves the lives of
the people in a state. Although humanitarian intervention faces a lot of criticism, it is important to note
that what may happen with or without intervention when a country faces problems. The positive
effects of humanitarian intervention would be that a new understanding of sovereignty would exits
(Krylov, 1995). What can be taken from this is that sovereignty is not absolute. In Allen Buchanan s
article, humanitarian intervention is often defined as an infraction of the sovereignty of the state
because of other states trying to protect human rights (Buchanan, 1999). This is often considered a
problem of morality because intervention of a state is viewed negatively. It is important to determine

Coco Chanel Biography
Today, one of the most important items that a woman must have in her closet is a little black dress and
Coco Chanel was the woman that made having one so important. Ms. Chanel had a very rewarding
career and, even today, her and her company are huge parts of the fashion world. While researching
her early life, lovers, career, and her death, there were many facts about Miss Coco Chanel that made
her a truly intriguing person to research. She seemed to have led a very interesting life, but she may
not have been happy. That is probably why she kept going for the richer and more powerful men and
why she lied so much about her past. The inconsistencies were evident throughout all the research,
even up to her cause of death.
In Saumur, France on August 19, 1883, Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born. At the time of her birth,
her parents were not married, but they did exchange vows when Ms. Chanel was a year old. When she
was twelve years old, her mother died. Her cause of death was from a respiratory infection, either
tuberculosis or bronchitis. Her father, then, sent her and her sisters to go live in Aubazine, a convent.
One resource states that the convent was too strict that Chanel ran away to Moulins to stay at a
boarding house for Catholic girls. (Coco Chanel Biography Childhood, Life Achievements Timeline)
But another source states that Ms. Chanel stayed at the convent until she turned eighteen, and then she
was released; from there she went to go live in Moulins.

Canadas Shame Essay
The infamous Harp (whitecoat) and Hooded (blueback) seal hunt photos have virtually disappeared
from newspapers or television news. That does not mean that seal hunting in Canada has stopped. The
mass killing of seals off Canada amp;#8217;s East Coast is commercial, cruel, and wasteful, yet
despite furious outcry from Animal Rights activists the government is refusing to take notice. The
cruelty of this extensive killing operation, which starts during the seals amp;#8217; birthing season,
has been denounced for years as amp;#8220;Canada amp;#8217;s Shame. ;
The senseless slaughter of seals springs from the profit they bring, the use of their pelts for coats, and
other products. It has been proven though, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The big commercially owned boats on the other hand have an entirely different method of killing. Seal
pups are gathered up individually and incased in netting amp;#8211; somewhat like a bag of oranges.
Dozens of baby seals in net bags are packed into wire cages and moved by helicopters to fur farms.
After the pups molt, they are killed. Catching seals in nets unavoidably causes a slow and painful
death for these beautiful mammals.
Seals are mammals, warm blooded like the rest of us. There is nothing in place to protect them
because under Canadian law, these mammals are legally considered to be fish! Perhaps that is why our
government thinks so little about slaughtering these animals. Perhaps that is why the quotas have been
set so high and why both the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland are now
providing subsidies to entice more fishermen and sport hunters to kill seals. The Government of
Canada is gambling that the public has forgotten about the cruel and bloody images of the Canadian
seal hunt prior to 1984. The truth is, nothing has changed amp;#8220; amp;#8230;about 220 000 seal
pups were killed in 1997 alone. ; And this statistic does not even take into account the thousands of
mature seals being killed; it amp;#8217;s merely the estimated number of seal pups being massacred.

Essay on Why the Design Argument Fails
Why the Design Argument Fails The Design Argument does fail due to its weaknesses, it is lacking in
factual and substantial evidence to prove its theories. It puts forward a lot of ideas and claims however
they are not justified well enough; the only true fact is that you have to believe them. I feel it is correct
to claim that it fails due to the amount of criticising evidence against the theories for the existence of
God.
The main philosopher to criticise and object to the Teleogical Argument was David Hume. He looked
at every point towards the existence towards a creator and designer and then thought logically about
the condemnation and came up with rebuttals. He realised that ... Show more content on

He then compares a watch against a floating vegetable. A clock to a large organic mass is not possible
to compare. It would be better to compare it to an immense floating object. He is stating how absurd it
is that a small simple item could be linked to such a powerful designer. You cannot link a watch
towards something, which is a far more superior, and multitasking being. Like many of these
assumptions they are lacking concrete evidence to prove it, it is just a theory and therefore weakens
the argument towards the existence of a creator.
Another protestation, which Hume makes, is the difference between the world at present and the world
at birth. He asks how we can link what was then from what we see now, the time difference is too
great and too big of an assumption. When we link the dinosaurs and try to analysis their life and habits
we can only learn from what we have. Then we tend to assume what time period they lived and who
hunted whom. Once again there is no real evidence to prove where or when they existed and this is
just like the creator theories. We assume and try to link things together from what we have without
looking at all the evidence and waiting for 100% accurate facts. So we just predict and say it is the
way forward. However this is incorrect and therefore false to state this. Yet many Philopshers tend to
say that it is

Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome Essay
Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS) is a rare chronic disease, different from typical
hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Typical HUS is caused by bacteria, specifically E. Coli (
Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) , 2016; Noris Remuzzi, 2010). It can be treated, and most children
will have a full recovery ( Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) , 2016). aHUS can develop in two
forms: familial or sporadic, that affect both children and adults, making it difficult to diagnose (Noris
Remuzzi, 2010; NORD, 2016). Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome is distinguished by three main
manifestations: hemolytic anemia (destruction of RBC), thrombocytopenia (low platelets), and uremia

The main trigger for sporadic aHUS derives from an infection. Other common triggers include
pregnancy, cancer, transplants or certain medications. According to Norris and Remuzzi,
Approximately 50% of sporadic cases appear to be idiopathic . Approximately 10 20% of patients
with sporadic aHUS also display a mutation of the CFH gene. (Noris Remuzzi, 2010)
Mutation of the CFH gene causes a disruption of the activation pathway in the body, therefore it
begins to attack cells in the body specifically on the kidney or liver (Bu, Borsa, Gianluigi, Smith,
2012). The attack on the kidney can lead to thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), small vessel clots.
Platelets will help minimize any leaking of vessels done by the attack of the disrupted activation
pathway but after several clots form oxygen is cut off from certain parts of the kidney. When the
kidney no longer receives oxygen, those parts begin to die off leading to thrombocytopenia, anemia
and renal failure. When the kidney begins to fail, erythropoietin levels decrease. EPO binds to a
receptor in the bone marrow to inhibit erythropoiesis. Therefore, RBC production in the bone marrow
decreases when EPO levels decrease. (Bu, Borsa, Gianluigi, Smith, 2012)
In the United States approximately 2 per million children are affected by aHUS according to ncbi.gov.

the field of economics. Levitt and Dubner define an incentive as the means of urging people to do
more of a good thing and less of a bad thing (Levitt and Dubner 17). These incentives are usually what
drive people to get what they want or need especially when resources are scarce and others want the
same things. In this book, the authors define three types of incentives economic, social, and moral
which are measured by people s responses (Levitt and Dubner). From childhood, humans are
constantly responding to incentives and learning from them. In Chapter 1, Levitt and Dubner explain
some of those incentives by presenting a study based on 10 day care centers in Israel. The study
focused on the parents responses after the day care centers announced a $3 fine for each time they
picked up their kids 10 minutes later than the stated policy. The $3 fine caused the opposite effect that
the managers of the day care centers wanted: instead of reducing the number of tardy parents, it
caused an increase of the number of late pickups. The reason for the increase of tardiness pickups was

High Noon Vs The Most Dangerous Game Comparison Essay
It s the film, High Noon versus The Most Dangerous Game ! If you don t know what High Noon is, it
s about Will, who is the protagonist, is coming back to town to fight Frank, who is the antagonist, and
his gang to finish their fight once and for all. Now about The Most Dangerous Game , it s about
Rainsford, who is trapped on an island and the protagonist, fights Zaroff, who is the antagonist, to
survive in this jungle like island. The 2 stories of the film and the short story have many similarities
and differences. Such resemblance are the theme and the main characters while there is a difference in
the setting.
Between these 2, the theme the film and the short story are very similar. Evidence in the film to prove
my point are from the Minister: I don t know. The Commandment say: Thou shalt not kill. But we hire
men to do it for us. The right and the wrong seem pretty clear here, but if you re asking me to tell my
people to go and kill and maybe get themselves killed I m sorry don t know what to say.... I m sorry.
(Foreman 315) and in the short story Rainsford said: Rainsford did not smile. I am still a beast at bay,
he said, in a low, hoarse voice. Get ready,

I suggest, too, that you avoid the big swamp in the southeast corner of the island. We call it Death

the middle of nowhere. (Foreman 299) On the island, where Rainsford tries to survive, there is no
running away since it s isolated and there are many obstacles on an island and in jungle by nature.

The God Of Nightmares By Paula Fox
I wonder how many of us regret losing our innocence. Do we remember the exact moment it
happened? To me, innocence is the lack of awareness of people being untrustworthy and bad. The
moment you realize that the world is not what you thought when you wore your rose colored glasses is
very sad. We may wish we could go back and erase what we know or attempt to get back what was
lost, but unfortunately that just cannot happen. God is an incorporeal being and the source of all moral
obligations. Losing our innocence is about experiences from the rebellion against God by ourselves or
others that cause our spirit to be broken or wounded. In, The God of Nightmares , by Paula Fox we
will analysis the loss of innocence and the world of faith destroyed, thus embodying the God of
nightmares. Faith is a belief, confidence or trust in a person, object, religion, idea or view. The story
opens with Helen s mother having faith that her husband, whom left over ten years earlier would
return to her and their daughter, Helen. She never moved on with her life, but maintained the home,
herself and Helen as if he was to return. Helen receives a letter from her father s girlfriend letting her
know that he is dead. The first moment in the book when faith is shattered and the reality of how
others are, comes to fruition. We might have known! My mother cried out, the note falling from her
hand as she dropped to her knees in front of a glass cabinet that held trophies cups, faded

In Class Essay: Immanuel Kant s Theory
The question is:
Kant s theory of ethics is not compatible with religious ethical approaches. How far do you agree?
Write a 5 paragraph essay and be sure to refer to more than just Kant s ethical theory in your answer.
In this unit of Morality and Ethics, we examine Immanuel Kant s theory of ethics and its relationship
and compatibility with several religious ethical approaches. As we learn from W.D. Ross s book The
Right and the Good. Oxford, Kant lived a rigid life in Konigsberg, Germany and he was a
deontologist, thus rejecting the teleological position of determining to act based on consequences.

Pevelance and Effects of Rape
The Prevalence and Effects of Rape
The prevalence of rape is a major social problem that plagues America and other countries around the
world daily. Victims of rape are psychologically, and sometimes physically damaged from being
sexually assaulted. Although it would seem that it is a sexually motivated crime, rape is actually an act
of violence in which sex is used as a weapon against a powerless victim (Kendall 197). Neither
rapists, nor rape victims are concentrated to one specific class or race. However, American women
aged 16 24 are considered to be at the greatest risk of sexual assault (Aronowitz, Lambert, and
Davidoff 173). The majority of rapists are age twenty five and younger. Almost all rape cases have
female victims with male offenders. Men account for only 10% of all rape victims, and in some cases
their rapist is also male. In regards to statistics, rape appears rare because of victims fears that they
will not be believed, or have stigmas about rape now attached to them(Egan and Wilson 345).
According to Wolitzk Taylor et al., approximately 1 in 7 US women have been raped in their lifetimes.
Estimates from the 1990s and 2000s indicate that only 16% to 20% of forcible rape victims report the
rape to law enforcement (Wolitzky Taylor et al. 582). The reason for the disproportion of rape victims
to rape reports is likely the vast acceptance of rape myths in society. Rape myths are stereotyped, or
false beliefs about rape, rape victims, and rapists (Egan

Finding Zion In The Country
Finding Zion in the Country:
William Blake s Jerusalem
For the unsuspecting visitor to New York City, the notion of standing under the shadow of looming
skyscrapers, thrust into the pandemonium and din of the walkways, overwhelms and shocks. Yet, for
those more accustomed to city life, the disorder becomes normal, relegated to the everyday challenges
of modern life. Rarely in our busy and all too public lives do we take the time to recognize that city
life has all but removed any semblance of the natural world from our lives. In 1808, the world began
to undergo a revolution. Unlike the revolution of the previous century, this was not political
revolution, but an economic revolution, the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution ... Show

On the surface, the phrase simply references the cotton and flour mills that rose in to prominence
during the Industrial Revolution. These mills were one of the key achievements of the revolution,
representing man s ability to use technology to mass produce human goods. Yet, Blake saw that the
Mills also led to the repression and enslavement of workers, and perhaps equally importantly the
conquest of nature. These mills also represent the uniformity and homogeneity of European religion
and culture. The factory and mill represent the ultimate conformity, as men become machines, simply
cogs in the wheel of economic progress. Through out his life, Blake argued that the European
perspective on nature, individuality and spirituality often suppressed and stifled religious growth. For
Blake, industrialization and alienation from nature only serve to limit man s spiritual prospects,
casting him from heaven in to the dark satanic mills. After demonstrating the problems with the
current state of industrialized England, Blake turns to his focus to his solution. His goal is to force the
clouds [to] unfold, in other words, shift the focus back to nature so that England will be able to peer

Foreign Aid Essay
EFFECT OF FOREIGN AID IN KENYA
1. Introduction
Foreign aid is usually associated with official development assistance, which in turn is a subset of the
official development finance, and normally targeted to the poorest countries (World Bank, 1998).
Foreign aid represents an important source of finance in most countries in sub Saharan Africa (SSA),
where it supplements low savings, narrow export earnings and thin tax bases. In recent years the donor
community has become more stringent about fiscal discipline and good policies, which has led to
freezing of donor funds to governments that do not conform with aid conditionalities. The Kenyan
government has experienced such aid cuts in the past.
1.1 Definition
The standard definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A well designed aid plan can support effective institutions and governance by providing more
knowledge and transferring technology and skills. It is recommended to decentralize the aid flows in
recipient countries. Money aid is important but idea aid is even more important. Aid can be the
midwife of good policy in recipient countries. In poor policy countries, idea aid is especially more
essential than money aid. This implies that in a good policy environment, aid increases growth via the
investment channel whereas in a poor policy environment, it nurtures the reforms through
policymakers training or knowledge and technology transfer. These non money effects are believed
even more important and viable than the money value of aid. Aid works much better where the reform
is initiated or internalized by local government rather than when it is imposed by outsiders. Therefore,
aid is normally more effective when it facilitates efficiently and timely reforms triggered by the local
authority (World Bank, 1998).
Foreign aid or (development assistance) is often regarded as being too much, or wasted on corrupt
recipient governments despite any good intentions from donor countries. In reality, both the quantity
and quality of aid have been poor and donor nations have not been held to account. In 1970, the world
s rich countries agreed to give 0.7% of their gross national income as official international
development aid, annually. Since

Adults and teens alike know the possible risks of sexual content, yet it is still a growing problem. Any
sexual contact without proper prevention can put us at risk of an STI. This is part of the reason why
that there are twenty million new cases of STIs every year. In 2015, it was discovered that teens ages
thirteen to twenty four account for over twenty three percent of all HIV cases in the US. According to
the CDC, half of all STI cases are from teens. Even with sharing a water bottle STIs can spread from

causes mild skin irritations or painful lesions. When herpes spreads to the genitals, it is known as
genital herpes. One can be infected in the genitals with both forms of herpes in the genitals. This
infection has always been extremely common, and is usually not noticeable.
Technological advances have allowed some STIs to become curable. Gonorrhea is one of these.
Gonorrhea is a bacteria that infects different membranes in the genital area. Some are the urinary tract
and cervix. It can also possibly infect the eyes and throat. The CDC shows that around five hundred
and fifty thousand new Gonorrhea cases in the United States were from people aged fifteen to twenty
four in 2016. To spread Gonorrhea, ejaculation does not need to occur. It causes genital pain and
abnormally colored discharge. These symptoms aren t why Gonorrhea can be dangerous. In women, if
spread to the fallopian tubes, Gonorrhea can cause PID, which causes pain. PID, if untreated, could
lead to permanent infertility. In rare cases, Gonorrhea can also affect a man s fertility. If a pregnant
women has it, she can pass it on to the child. To cure it, the CDC recommends a mix of two different
medicines. This treatment plan can get rid of the disease, but cannot replace damaged body parts.
Some Gonorrhoeae strains are what is known as antimicrobial resistant.

Creon Is The Tragic Hero Of Antigone
One might think Antigone is the tragic hero of her own story, but as the audience read in The Burial at
Thebes: A Version of Sophocles Antigone translated by Seamus Heaney, readers know that she is not
the tragic hero and learn the King is. The story starts after Polyneices and Eteocles battled to the death.
This Creon as next in line to take the crown. Creon buries Eteocles but leaves Polyneices body to rot.
Antigone wants to bury Polyneices, as a result, he goes the Underworld. Based on Aristotle s
definition, Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone because although he starts from a position of
greatness, his tragic flaws lead to a catastrophe; he realizes the error of his ways, but it is too late to
prevent the catastrophe; his downfall and suffering leave him humbled and enlightened. First, based
on Aristotle s definition, Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone because although he starts from a
position of greatness, his tragic flaw leads to Catastrophe. Creon says And I, as next of kin to those
dead and doomed,/ I m next in line./ The throne has come to me (Heaney 15). This is the point where
Creon says that he is king once again. That s how guilt/ Affects some people./ They Simply break/ and
everything comes out./ But the barefaced ones./ The ones who defy you more when they re found out,/
They re worse again (Heaney 31). He means that guilt results in truth and that people who defy him
talk more when they are caught. Creon knows that Antigone is the one who went

Moral Justification in Greatest Happiness Principle
In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Spock saves the Enterprise from certain destruction by going in to
the damaged warp core camber which was flooded with deadly radiation in order to fix and save the
entire crew of the Enterprise. This ended up leading to the death of Spock and in his dying words to
Admiral Kirk he says Don t grieve, Admiral. It is logical. The needs of the many outweigh ...the needs
of the few...or the one. This relates almost exactly to the words of John Stuart Mill, a Utilitarian
philosopher, on the idea of the Greatest Happiness Principle. The greatest happiness principle is kind
of simple alteration of the quote in that instead of acting out the needs of the many we can act so long
as the action promotes the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people affected. Meaning that
any action you can take can be morally justified if it brings about the most amount of happiness to the
most amounts of people. According to John Stuart Mill this is an acceptable foundation for morality
but is it really? Truly this isn t that great of a foundation for morality, one person cannot assume that
his or her actions will result in happiness other people. This is because one people associate different
meanings to their individual happiness. Also this is an unstable foundation for morality because we
cannot see every consequence for our actions as soon as they take place. There sure are immediate
results as to how our actions impact the people around us but

Chemical Kinetics Lab Report
Review 3: Text Chemical kinetics is the study of rates and mechanisms of chemical reactions. In our
study of chemical kinetics, experimental data identifying the initial concentrations of reactants and the
instantaneous initial rates of multiple trials is used to determine the rate law for the reaction, the order
of the reactants, the overall reaction order, and the average rate constant. By comparing the
instantaneous initial rates and the initial concentrations of the reactants for two trials, it is possible to
deduce the order of each reactant. In order to determine the order of A, the two trials must be selected
such that the concentration of A changes while the concentration of B is held constant. In this case,

k=(0.103M 2s 1+0.103M 2s 1+0.103M 2s 1+0.103M 2s 1)/4=0.103 M 2s 1 The average rate constant
is 0.103M 2s 1. Combining everything, the rate law for the reaction is Rate=(0.103M 2s 1)[A]2[B]1.
We know that the reaction is 2A+2B→C+D. Based on the orders we calculated for A and B, we know
that this reaction is not an elementary reaction because both of the coefficients of A and B are 2, which
do not match the calculated orders of A and B, which are 2 and 1 respectively. Also, if this were an
elementary reaction, we would expect 3 molecules to perfectly collide with each other, which is highly
unlikely. As a result, it is more likely that there was an intermediate and that multiple steps were
involved. Through experimental data, we can not only determine the order of reactants, but also the
rate law, the average rate constant, and the overall order of the reaction. Using the orders calculated,
we can also determine the integrated rate plot that best represents the reactants and the type of

The Owner Of The Restaurant
Before leaving home for Rutgers, I was a fry cook at a burger restaurant. The usual pace was slightly
overwhelming and all my co workers had 2+ years of experience with the company. One night, about
two months after I started working there, it was so incredibly busy that the line of customers measured
out the door. As I frantically tossed food into hot grease, I fumbled with a box of jalapeño poppers and
dropped all of them on the floor. The cashiers, general manager and head cook all rolled their eyes at
me and shuffled past the mess. As I started to pick them up to throw them away, I noticed someone
else s hand helping. I looked up inquisitively and found Ralph Flannery s eyes, the owner of the
restaurant, who owned a handful of the same restaurant chain in several other locations. After we
cleaned up, he asked me to go to his office when things calmed down. I went to his office expecting to
turn in my name tag. Ralph looked calm and cheery, which put me at a wearisome ease. He started by
explaining how cheap and worthless a box of jalapeño poppers were to him. Then Ralph transitioned
to how expensive but valuable his employees were and finished by personalizing it with how
important I am to him and his company s success. I was left speechless because this was a new
experience to me. I sat there curious about what he had to say next. He said to me, Jacob, what if I
invest in you? Would you invest in me? How about I give you a fifty cent raise right now... I

  • 2. Soil Erosion Essay Soil erosion is a natural event that affects all land. In farming and other agriculture, soil erosion refers to the weathering away of topsoil by the natural forces such as wind, water or through acts associated with farming such as tilling. Soil erosion can be something that happens slowly over time or something that can happen in the blink of an eye causing severe land damage. This article shows the cause and effect of soil erosion on farm and agriculture land. Wind erosion occurs mostly in flat, dry areas with fine, sandy soil. Wind erosion is caused when the wind moves topsoil from one place and deposits it to another. The speed and extent of the wind depend on the amount of soil erosion done. Extreme wind erosion can cause severe amount damage to land and crops. Wind erosion damages land and crops in many ways, one such way is soil drifting. Soil drifting can lead to soil infertility which in turn can lead to poor crop growth and production, especially in areas where wind erosion is very common. Continual wind erosion in one area over time can change the texture of the soil by loss of sand, silt, nutrients and organic matter. The removal of such matter from the soil makes it harder for the soil to hold moisture, making it more difficult for crops to grow. Wind erosion also damages crops by burial of plants and seeds or unearthing of newly planted seeds, resulting in expensive delays and making it necessary to replant. Abundant woods and vegetation around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Roman Catholic Church There are always issues in the world that we have to face, they change with time but a lot of them seem to have a common theme and that is indifference. I cannot help but think that people are uncomfortable with anything that is different from the norm. Many of us are set in our ways and we quickly remove any one who threatens that. A lot of us come from a set of foundations that help create who we are. While doing research for this paper I searched for topics that interest me. I also searched for a topic that anyone would be able to give their opinion on. This search lead me to the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis. Much to my surprise he is extremely popular in this modern time. Many call him the pope of the new world. The model of millions of Catholics around the world. As a child my family often had figures from the Catholic Church around the house. Saints, crosses and even small statues of popes who served in the past. As I grew older I came to realize that this was a common trend in a Dominican family home. As I reflect back into what my childhood was like and how huge of impact religion had on my core foundations. I thought of family members who I thought had the biggest impact. I was a caregiver to my aunt, she had stage four lung cancer, this involved me helping her get ready for the day but before she could do anything in the morning my aunt would watch a church service with her rosary in hand. This would take an at least an hour of my day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Symbolism In A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings Society can be a smooth talker, it can slyly belittle someone until they fit the stereotype society has placed upon them. Some people are willing to sever past the constant bigotry and persevere towards the person they want to become, but others get stuck and fall into the trap called the pigeonhole. The line separating those who ignore society s harsh accusations and those who listen are classified directly with how the targets react towards discrimination. Ifemelu, the main character from Americanah by Chimamanda Adichie, was a Nigerian women that lived in America who received an abundant amount of discrimination towards her African race and accent. Within a short story by Gabriel Marquez, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, people treated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He spent his time trying to get comfortable in his borrowed nest... The old man disregarded the fact that he was being shown as an admissionable attraction and carried on business as usual. The angel showed no signs of annoyance, spitefulness, or anger. He simply did what he needed to do: eat, sleep, dry wings, and repeat. The angel seemed to favor his own company rather than the company of the townsfolk, so he generally kept to himself, hence why he took no part in his own act. The angel did not allow himself to be captured by the stereotypical strings of society, instead he continued to be himself: the mysterious angel. Another way the angel reacted to discrimination was by avoiding it, But he [angel] must have known the reason for those changes, for he was quite careful that no one should notice them, that no one should hear the sea chanteys that he sometimes sang under the stars. The old man was aware that the sudden changes of appearance (growth of new feathers on his wings) would cause new attention, therefore, he hid in the far corners of the farm away from people who could disrupt his ... • 5. Pros And Cons The New Jersey Gubernatorial election is impending and citizens will be able to select the candidate that they think will best serve their needs. New Jersey s Constitution includes that these general elections shall be held annually on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November also, the time of holding such elections may be altered by law. Currently there are two candidates, Kim Guadagno who is on the Republican side and Phil Murphy who stands on the Democratic side. Both candidates have contradictory perspectives on topics that are spoken about during the debates. I believe Phil Murphy is the best candidate due to his promising ideas on controversial issues that are seen in New Jersey. Considering that there are more democrats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This demonstrates Murphy s initiative in fixing the economy through various beneficial solutions. Doing so he will be helping the people of New Jersey by lowering property taxes, which individuals can finally be relieved to hear. Murphy also wants to be more strict with spending on transit to ensure that the roads and bridges are functional rather than crowded with tolls. Personally, I think this is very efficient because these two factors make New Jersey very expensive to live in and by lowering taxes and being more strict with transit the economy can steadily progress to a stable point. Murphy wants to grow the economy due to the state being ranked last or near last in growth and inequalities. He states, We need an economy that works for all New Jerseyans not just the special interests, I flat out reject the us versus them approach to our economy, it is time we get back to thinking about we (Phil Murphy). Murphy wants to achieve this by raising the wage to $15 an hour, ensure equal pay for equal work, and make millionaires and corporations pay their fair share of taxes. If this is successful then the economic standing that New Jersey holds will soon exponentially rise to the top. At the same time, Murphy wants to fix the economy so that more is invested in schools, family care and the elimination of poverty. Along with this Murphy also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Recently, there has been a controversial subject arousing from the midwest that is allegedly threatening our environment the construction of Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). This $3.8 billion, 1,172 mile pipeline project will be crossing four states from North Dakota through Illinois to supply crude oil coming from the oil rich Bakken area (Yan). • 7. The Hebrew Bible In the course of human history, few books have fascinated scholars to the extent of the Hebrew Bible. This is not to say that biblical scholarship has been static. Instead, it has evolved over the course of many centuries of scrutiny, both of preceding scholarship and the Bible itself. Scholarship relating to the Hebrew Bible, then, is often grouped into two categories: the work of the ancient interpreters and that of modern scholarship. Operating from two very different sets of assumptions, there are many similarities and differences that can be found between the ways the ancient interpreters and modern scholars read and understand the Bible. The ancient interpreters, according to Kugel, were Jews and early Christians living and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The text clearly states that if man eats of the tree of the knowledge of good and bad, he will instantly die. However, according to Genesis 5:5, Adam lived a total of 930 years. Ancient interpreters viewed this not as a contradiction or error, but rather an instance which can be clarified by using other passages (such as Psalm 90:4, which equates 1 day to 1000 years in the sight of the Lord.) This is discussed in the book of Jubilees, an apocryphal work attributed to the ancient interpreters. Thus, the ancient interpreters did not view Genesis 2:15 17 as contradictory or troubling, but rather drew upon their foundational assumptions to aid their understanding of a text. Modern scholars, however, have very a different understanding of the same text. Since the Bible contains no cryptic meaning, the issue of Adam s death cannot be explained using other biblical texts. This, then, must be an error which exists within the text. Modern scholars noticed something else, however, which caused them to closely examine the language used in Genesis 1 3. The portrayal of God in Genesis 1 differed greatly from the portrayal in Genesis 2 3. This led to another key difference ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The other significant impact of the film series is that the main characters were not white males, they were minorities. The stereotypical references used throughout the trilogy use all kinds, from Asian jokes, black jokes, female jokes, etc. It is one of the funny childhood movies I remember watching growing up as a kid, and never understood that most of the humor dialogue in the scenes are racist stereotypes and sexual. In the first movie, Rush Hour when the two main characters Carter (Chris Tucker) and Lee (Jackie Chan) meet each other, Carter assumes that Lee does not speak English and then says an infamous line of Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? . This first dialogue between these two characters has introduced a common stereotype with non Americans, which is that they cannot speak English. This is an assumption that sadly, most Americans have. In Matt Lee s The Manipulation and Role of Stereotypes in the Rush Hour Trilogy he breaks down the racial stereotypes throughout each of the films. Regarding the racial jokes, audience members reportedly did not take as much offense to the stereotypes because the two characters who were making these jokes, were minorities. Lee s research also says that neutralizing the racial jokes helped since Carter and Lee ended up becoming friends. In the beginning, it was not the case; they were just around each other when the jokes started. In the same paragraph, it is stated that since Rush Hour used the ability to depict a positive image of an African American and an Asian it ends up canceling out the racist stereotypes in the film. ... Jeb Bush wants the United States to seek help from other countries and try to control the climate change by that. His solution is not realistic because even is the carbon emissions are cut out, there are other ways to hurt nature which effects the climate. His solution is worth a try but it cannot be guaranteed that those are the reasons our climate is changing. Literary Devices In Norton Juster s The Phantom Tollbooth Norton Juster s book, The Phantom Tollbooth successfully used different types of literary devices to introduce the main theme of the novel which was the importance of education. Juster told the story of a boy named Milo who was described as, ...a boy... who didn t know what to do with himself not just sometimes, but always (1961, p. 9). Milo was very indecisive and overall, he leads a pretty boring and uneventful life. However, all of that changed when he came home from school one day and noticed a mysterious tollbooth in his bedroom. The tollbooth made him start to realize the value of education and the importance of enjoying what was going on in his day to day life. The literary devices Juster chose to use in his writing increased the quality of his work and they also helped allow him to engage his readers in what they were reading more. Juster uses a wide variety of different types of literary devices throughout the entire story but three of the most common are irony, puns, and allegory. One of the most ironic moments in the book is when Milo, Tock, and Humbug enter the Valley of Sound on their way to Digitopolis. From the time they entered the valley it is obvious that something was missing. Juster wrote, at first it was difficult to tell just what had changed it all looked the same and it all smelled the same but for some reason, nothing sounded the same (1961, p. 144). • 14. The Negative Effects Of Humanitarian Intervention The basic principle of common morality states that humans have rights not as member of particular community, but as members of human community and there is a common moral world (Rashid, 2012). Human rights are shared universally but what happens when these human rights are violated? When is the right time to intervene when someone is being harassed in the street? Humanitarian intervention should occur then the targeted group s violation is violated to an extent where they can no longer defend themselves. Humanitarian intervention may be seen as inefficient and ineffective due to the time it takes to occur, and the bias that comes from the intervention, however humanitarian intervention is necessary to monitor on a state s treatment towards it s citizens and it saves the lives of the people in a state. Although humanitarian intervention faces a lot of criticism, it is important to note that what may happen with or without intervention when a country faces problems. The positive effects of humanitarian intervention would be that a new understanding of sovereignty would exits (Krylov, 1995). What can be taken from this is that sovereignty is not absolute. In Allen Buchanan s article, humanitarian intervention is often defined as an infraction of the sovereignty of the state because of other states trying to protect human rights (Buchanan, 1999). This is often considered a problem of morality because intervention of a state is viewed negatively. It is important to determine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While researching her early life, lovers, career, and her death, there were many facts about Miss Coco Chanel that made her a truly intriguing person to research. She seemed to have led a very interesting life, but she may not have been happy. That is probably why she kept going for the richer and more powerful men and why she lied so much about her past. The inconsistencies were evident throughout all the research, even up to her cause of death. In Saumur, France on August 19, 1883, Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born. At the time of her birth, her parents were not married, but they did exchange vows when Ms. Chanel was a year old. When she was twelve years old, her mother died. Catching seals in nets unavoidably causes a slow and painful death for these beautiful mammals. Seals are mammals, warm blooded like the rest of us. There is nothing in place to protect them because under Canadian law, these mammals are legally considered to be fish! Perhaps that is why our government thinks so little about slaughtering these animals. • 18. Essay on Why the Design Argument Fails Why the Design Argument Fails The Design Argument does fail due to its weaknesses, it is lacking in factual and substantial evidence to prove its theories. It puts forward a lot of ideas and claims however they are not justified well enough; the only true fact is that you have to believe them. I feel it is correct to claim that it fails due to the amount of criticising evidence against the theories for the existence of God. The main philosopher to criticise and object to the Teleogical Argument was David Hume. He looked at every point towards the existence towards a creator and designer and then thought logically about the condemnation and came up with rebuttals. He realised that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He then compares a watch against a floating vegetable. A clock to a large organic mass is not possible to compare. It would be better to compare it to an immense floating object. He is stating how absurd it is that a small simple item could be linked to such a powerful designer. You cannot link a watch towards something, which is a far more superior, and multitasking being. Like many of these assumptions they are lacking concrete evidence to prove it, it is just a theory and therefore weakens the argument towards the existence of a creator. Another protestation, which Hume makes, is the difference between the world at present and the world at birth. He asks how we can link what was then from what we see now, the time difference is too great and too big of an assumption. When we link the dinosaurs and try to analysis their life and habits we can only learn from what we have. Then we tend to assume what time period they lived and who hunted whom. Once again there is no real evidence to prove where or when they existed and this is just like the creator theories. We assume and try to link things together from what we have without looking at all the evidence and waiting for 100% accurate facts. So we just predict and say it is the way forward. According to Norris and Remuzzi, Approximately 50% of sporadic cases appear to be idiopathic . Approximately 10 20% of patients with sporadic aHUS also display a mutation of the CFH gene. (Noris Remuzzi, 2010) Mutation of the CFH gene causes a disruption of the activation pathway in the body, therefore it begins to attack cells in the body specifically on the kidney or liver (Bu, Borsa, Gianluigi, Smith, 2012). The attack on the kidney can lead to thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), small vessel clots. Platelets will help minimize any leaking of vessels done by the attack of the disrupted activation pathway but after several clots form oxygen is cut off from certain parts of the kidney. When the kidney no longer receives oxygen, those parts begin to die off leading to thrombocytopenia, anemia and renal failure. When the kidney begins to fail, erythropoietin levels decrease. EPO binds to a receptor in the bone marrow to inhibit erythropoiesis. Therefore, RBC production in the bone marrow decreases when EPO levels decrease. Perceiving The Actual World Like An Economist Essay Perceiving the Actual World Like an Economist Through out the entire book Freakonomics, Levitt and Dubner, emphasize how people are constantly responding to incentives, and how these incentives motivate and affect people s decision making in their daily lives. The authors of this book talk about economics from a different perspective, and they do it by relating unusual and unasked questions to the field of economics. Levitt and Dubner define an incentive as the means of urging people to do more of a good thing and less of a bad thing (Levitt and Dubner 17). These incentives are usually what drive people to get what they want or need especially when resources are scarce and others want the same things. In this book, the authors define three types of incentives economic, social, and moral which are measured by people s responses (Levitt and Dubner). From childhood, humans are constantly responding to incentives and learning from them. In Chapter 1, Levitt and Dubner explain some of those incentives by presenting a study based on 10 day care centers in Israel. The study focused on the parents responses after the day care centers announced a $3 fine for each time they picked up their kids 10 minutes later than the stated policy. To me, innocence is the lack of awareness of people being untrustworthy and bad. The moment you realize that the world is not what you thought when you wore your rose colored glasses is very sad. We may wish we could go back and erase what we know or attempt to get back what was lost, but unfortunately that just cannot happen. God is an incorporeal being and the source of all moral obligations. Losing our innocence is about experiences from the rebellion against God by ourselves or others that cause our spirit to be broken or wounded. • 25. Pevelance and Effects of Rape The Prevalence and Effects of Rape The prevalence of rape is a major social problem that plagues America and other countries around the world daily. Victims of rape are psychologically, and sometimes physically damaged from being sexually assaulted. Although it would seem that it is a sexually motivated crime, rape is actually an act of violence in which sex is used as a weapon against a powerless victim (Kendall 197). Neither rapists, nor rape victims are concentrated to one specific class or race. However, American women aged 16 24 are considered to be at the greatest risk of sexual assault (Aronowitz, Lambert, and Davidoff 173). The majority of rapists are age twenty five and younger. Almost all rape cases have female victims with male offenders. Men account for only 10% of all rape victims, and in some cases their rapist is also male. In regards to statistics, rape appears rare because of victims fears that they will not be believed, or have stigmas about rape now attached to them(Egan and Wilson 345). According to Wolitzk Taylor et al., approximately 1 in 7 US women have been raped in their lifetimes. Estimates from the 1990s and 2000s indicate that only 16% to 20% of forcible rape victims report the rape to law enforcement (Wolitzky Taylor et al. 582). The reason for the disproportion of rape victims to rape reports is likely the vast acceptance of rape myths in society. It is recommended to decentralize the aid flows in recipient countries. Money aid is important but idea aid is even more important. Aid can be the midwife of good policy in recipient countries. In poor policy countries, idea aid is especially more essential than money aid. This implies that in a good policy environment, aid increases growth via the investment channel whereas in a poor policy environment, it nurtures the reforms through policymakers training or knowledge and technology transfer. These non money effects are believed even more important and viable than the money value of aid. Aid works much better where the reform is initiated or internalized by local government rather than when it is imposed by outsiders. Therefore, aid is normally more effective when it facilitates efficiently and timely reforms triggered by the local authority (World Bank, 1998). Foreign aid or (development assistance) is often regarded as being too much, or wasted on corrupt recipient governments despite any good intentions from donor countries. In reality, both the quantity and quality of aid have been poor and donor nations have not been held to account. In 1970, the world s rich countries agreed to give 0.7% of their gross national income as official international development aid, annually. Since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Creon Is The Tragic Hero Of Antigone One might think Antigone is the tragic hero of her own story, but as the audience read in The Burial at Thebes: A Version of Sophocles Antigone translated by Seamus Heaney, readers know that she is not the tragic hero and learn the King is. The story starts after Polyneices and Eteocles battled to the death. This Creon as next in line to take the crown. Creon buries Eteocles but leaves Polyneices body to rot. Antigone wants to bury Polyneices, as a result, he goes the Underworld. Based on Aristotle s definition, Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone because although he starts from a position of greatness, his tragic flaws lead to a catastrophe; he realizes the error of his ways, but it is too late to prevent the catastrophe; his downfall and suffering leave him humbled and enlightened. First, based on Aristotle s definition, Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone because although he starts from a position of greatness, his tragic flaw leads to Catastrophe. Creon says And I, as next of kin to those dead and doomed,/ I m next in line./ The throne has come to me (Heaney 15). This is the point where Creon says that he is king once again. That s how guilt/ Affects some people./ They Simply break/ and everything comes out./ But the barefaced ones./ The ones who defy you more when they re found out,/ They re worse again (Heaney 31). He means that guilt results in truth and that people who defy him talk more when they are caught. Creon knows that Antigone is the one who went ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Moral Justification in Greatest Happiness Principle In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Spock saves the Enterprise from certain destruction by going in to the damaged warp core camber which was flooded with deadly radiation in order to fix and save the entire crew of the Enterprise. This ended up leading to the death of Spock and in his dying words to Admiral Kirk he says Don t grieve, Admiral. It is logical. The needs of the many outweigh ...the needs of the few...or the one. This relates almost exactly to the words of John Stuart Mill, a Utilitarian philosopher, on the idea of the Greatest Happiness Principle. The greatest happiness principle is kind of simple alteration of the quote in that instead of acting out the needs of the many we can act so long as the action promotes the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people affected. Meaning that any action you can take can be morally justified if it brings about the most amount of happiness to the most amounts of people. According to John Stuart Mill this is an acceptable foundation for morality but is it really? Truly this isn t that great of a foundation for morality, one person cannot assume that his or her actions will result in happiness other people. This is because one people associate different meanings to their individual happiness. Also this is an unstable foundation for morality because we cannot see every consequence for our actions as soon as they take place. There sure are immediate results as to how our actions impact the people around us but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Chemical Kinetics Lab Report Review 3: Text Chemical kinetics is the study of rates and mechanisms of chemical reactions. In our study of chemical kinetics, experimental data identifying the initial concentrations of reactants and the instantaneous initial rates of multiple trials is used to determine the rate law for the reaction, the order of the reactants, the overall reaction order, and the average rate constant. By comparing the instantaneous initial rates and the initial concentrations of the reactants for two trials, it is possible to deduce the order of each reactant. In order to determine the order of A, the two trials must be selected such that the concentration of A changes while the concentration of B is held constant. In this case, trial 1 and trial 3 or trial 2 and ... Combining everything, the rate law for the reaction is Rate=(0.103M 2s 1)[A]2[B]1. We know that the reaction is 2A+2B→C+D. Based on the orders we calculated for A and B, we know that this reaction is not an elementary reaction because both of the coefficients of A and B are 2, which do not match the calculated orders of A and B, which are 2 and 1 respectively. Also, if this were an elementary reaction, we would expect 3 molecules to perfectly collide with each other, which is highly unlikely. As a result, it is more likely that there was an intermediate and that multiple steps were involved. Through experimental data, we can not only determine the order of reactants, but also the rate law, the average rate constant, and the overall order of the reaction. Using the orders calculated, we can also determine the integrated rate plot that best represents the reactants and the type of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Owner Of The Restaurant Before leaving home for Rutgers, I was a fry cook at a burger restaurant. The usual pace was slightly overwhelming and all my co workers had 2+ years of experience with the company. One night, about two months after I started working there, it was so incredibly busy that the line of customers measured out the door. As I frantically tossed food into hot grease, I fumbled with a box of jalapeño poppers and dropped all of them on the floor. The cashiers, general manager and head cook all rolled their eyes at me and shuffled past the mess. As I started to pick them up to throw them away, I noticed someone else s hand helping. I looked up inquisitively and found Ralph Flannery s eyes, the owner of the restaurant, who owned a handful of the same restaurant chain in several other locations. After we cleaned up, he asked me to go to his office when things calmed down. I went to his office expecting to turn in my name tag. Ralph looked calm and cheery, which put me at a wearisome ease. He started by explaining how cheap and worthless a box of jalapeño poppers were to him. Then Ralph transitioned to how expensive but valuable his employees were and finished by personalizing it with how important I am to him and his company s success. I was left speechless because this was a new experience to me. I sat there curious about what he had to say next. He said to me, Jacob, what if I invest in you? Would you invest in me? How about I give you a fifty cent raise right now... I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
