Euthanasia Discussion
Whose responsibility is it to decide when, where, and under what conditions a person is to die? This
question inevitably brings up discussion of spirituality, beliefs, and legislation. Euthanasia is an idea
that has been around for decades yet as we progress in technology and medical competency the
discussion screams to be addressed formally by passing legislature. Euthanasia must be taken out of
the hands of lawmakers and put into the hands of the thousands fatally ill patients trapped in their own
bodies and/or minds. It is our responsibility as a society of profound thinking individuals to discuss
this difficult and troubling issue that has plagued the lives of families all over the entire world. We
must debate on an issue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of right now there are two countries that have legalized euthanasia, The Netherlands and Belgium,
along with Australia s Northern Territory. In the United States there is only one state that has legalized
PAS, which is Oregon. PAS is defined as the prescription or supplying of drugs with the explicit
intention of enabling the patient to end his or her life by an overdose (Willems et al. 2000). The debate
has multiple angles of support and opposition. The leading support groups for euthanasia center
around the fact that it is their lives to control. As Dorothy Rasinski Gregory states,
Ask the average physician, attorney, or layperson what kind of death he or she would prefer and a
variety of responses might be heard: in my sleep; . . . after I ve had a chance to bring closure to a
family problem; . . . with dignity; . . . while still in possession of my faculties; . . . with little or no
pain; . . . after I ve had a chance to say goodbye ; . . . not dependent on anyone or anything; . . . before
I become a burden; . . . fast so I won t know what s hit me; . . . only after I ve made my peace

Use the following website to determine why it is called the HR diagram:
http://skyserver.sdss.org/dr7/en/proj/advanced/hr/
It s called the HR diagram because it tells about the life cycles of stars. By observing and looking at
the life cycles of many other stars we can evaluate the date that will tell us all different stages of
evolution and growth. While discovering luminosities this helped measure how much energy a star
gives off as well as it s colour that makes categorizing pretty spot on. Because of that a Danish
astronomer research combied with russells research based on their spectral types this helped figure out
there life cycle of the stars. Even though two women was behind it and it should be named after them
but you know how it goes.

Trans Between Trans And Trans Students
Historically, trans students have had a difficult time in having adequate bathroom access. Many
schools do not have policies that allow trans students to use the bathroom that matches their gender
identity. This creates a difficult learning experience for the trans student, because they are put into
uncomfortable situations. Trans students are more often than not to use the bathroom and locker that
matches their biological sex and not their gender identity. They are then placed into a bathroom that is
not for their gender, it is the same as forcing a man to use the women s restroom. It further enforces
that there is a gender binary, that is a socially accepted norm, and that trans students are not a part of
it. Students should all feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By revoking the Obama Administration s ruling on the matter, of bathroom access, President Trump is
causing more harm to those 150,000 students than good.
Ethics Involved. Ethics play an important role in leadership, they allow for service organizations to
work towards the common good. (Manning, 2003). What is a social good? The social goods produced
through the human service sector strengthen individuals, families, organizations, and communities
through the services provided in health and mental health care, education, social welfare, criminal
justice, and many other fields of practice (Manning, 2003). Where do ethics come into play for the
transgender students, who no longer have adequate bathroom and locker room access? Who decides
what is ethical when decisions like this are made? In this case it is President Donald Trump is the
leader. It is the responsibility of the leader to make ethical decisions that benefit the good in society.
(Manning, 2003). When President Trump made his ruling to make trans bathroom access in schools a
state decision instead of a federal one, he is putting 150,000 students in harms way. Now that trans
bathroom access in schools is in the hands of the state, it is now their responsibility to shoulder the
blame for the consequences of the removal of trans students from Title IX. By not allowing trans
students proper bathroom and locker room

Examples Of Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous Carrie Fisher once said, Sometimes you can only find Heaven by slowly
backing away from hell (Brainyqoute) . When reading this quote, it reminded me of someone trying to
bounce their way back from an addiction. People all over the world struggle daily with an addiction. It
can be very heart breaking for some families to watch family members or friends be taken away from
an addiction they have. Alcoholism is a very common addiction today and has been for years. In
which in other terms, quitting cold turkey is something that can be very hard to do; especially with no
outside support whatsoever. If a person tries to change their alcoholic ways cold turkey with no help
from peers, then the person will end up failing with their attempt to beat alcoholism. Stephen Wilcox
states that Excessive alcohol use kills 88,000 people annually, and is the third leading lifestyle related
cause of death in the Nation (Wilcox). Losing a loved one because of a fixable problem is so
heartbreaking. It can make families and friends feel broken, because they could ve helped if they
would ve known, or they blame themselves and think how could I have not known. I m sure a lot of
you are wondering, what is Alcoholics Anonymous? Stated on their website, Alcoholics Anonymous is
an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. It is
nonprofessional, self supporting, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no

Land Of Opportunity In British Columbia
The reasons that British Columbia was not a land of opportunity were the physical landscape of BC
was inhospitable for migrants, the weather in BC was terrible, and the gold source was depleting due
to over mining. This statement, with supporting evidence presented in this essay will show that due to
the gold rush many people arrived in BC, but when the gold source started to deplete, many migrants
soon found out BC was not a land of opportunity. First, the reason that made BC not a land of
opportunity was the harsh physical environment. In the document by C. Gardiner, he talked about he
has encountered many physical barriers when he was traveling along the Fraser River. In addition, he
also encountered the Red Skin Indians where they stole

Gulag Research Paper
No citizen was immune to the wayward forced labor camps that were formed in the Soviet Union
officially in 1930. These camps were administered by the government agency known as The Main
Administration of Corrective Labor Camps and Labor Settlements. This agency was then referred to
as the acronym for this title Gulag and eventually the whole camp system was known as the Gulag
(Applebaum viii). The Gulags were the Soviet s penal system and Stalin s administration used the
camps as free labor to complete construction projects involving canals, railways, roads, and mines.
Anyone could be sent, without trial, to a Gulag camp, regardless of their gender, age, political views,
or ancestry. Felons who committed crimes of rape, murder, and robbery ... Show more content on

This memorialization effort was a long time coming considering the forced labor camps, which
terrorized a nation , began in 1929 and lasted through 1956. Even after the death of Josef Stalin, the
release of massive numbers of prisoners, and crumble of communism, the Soviet Union still could not
come to terms with its totalitarian past. The prisoners adapted to the difficult living in the camps but
once they were back in society they had a difficult time readjusting as not to be maladaptive (Frankl
135). During the 50 s and 60 s doctors could legally only treat the somatic symptoms of camp
survivors, although they knew of the camp syndrome that plagued their patients psychologically.
During this time there was also no field of specialization for post traumatic stress syndrome or any
scientific articles published about the syndrome. Beginning in 1992 and previously as a branch of
Memorial, an organization called Compassion was formed to remedy postponed psychosomatic
consequences of torture, enforced by age, pathology, and unfavorable living conditions. (Adler 115)
Their treatment and research has led to the development of official and scientific findings regarding
the experience of repression. Survivors also felt it was safer to speak of the previously taboo subject of
the Gulags after the formal dissolution of the Soviet Union. Between 1992 and 1997, four million
applications were filed for rehabilitation and yet only 1.5 million were granted (Frierson and Vilensky
303). Survivors of the Gulag understand the importance in telling their stories in order to prevent such
atrocities from ever happening again. The efforts of Memorial to commemorate and forever honor the
victims of Stalin s repression aids in this, as does the goal of Compassion in treating surviving

The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2014
Many pieces of literature are written each year, and each year dedicated high school students come
together to read any type of literature ranging from plays, poetry, graphic novels to podcasts. Out of
all the pieces of literature the students read, the students will debate which piece they believe is best.
Once all these pieces are chosen, an anthology is created, The Best American Nonrequired Reading
2014 . In the introduction of this book, Lemony Snicket claims, the most passionate and interesting
pieces of writing divide a literary team (Snicket xii). Literary pieces divide people in their opinions
since the pieces allow readers to interpret the pieces differently and gives the readers a sense of
mystery.

This essay suggests that the narrator is drowning, Looking back, I wonder why all of us who were
subject to my grandfather s assaults me, my sisters, my cousins, and my mother, her sister, their
cousins before us didn t display more unmistakable signs of distress (Morgan 322). This quote
suggests that the narrator feels like she is drowning, because the author states that drowning is quiet,
and that is what the narrator doing, keeping quiet by not saying anything. Readers could interpret the
drowning swimmers as depressed people or the swimmers in distress as the people who experience
temporary panic, like students panicking over an essay. The swimmers in distress are the people who
panic over something that will eventually pass, because they feel as if there is hope for them. If
readers do not interpret the narrator as depressed, they may say that narrator did not say anything
because she did not know what to say, and writing this essay was enough to speak out.
Essays found in the anthology are compelling because of the way certain concepts were expressed in
the essays. The authors do not fully give away what happens after the essay or what each thing
symbolizes. These pieces give the readers a sense of mystery. When a sense of mystery is given,
people are able to debate what happens in the piece. The essay, The Body by A.T Grant is a great
example of this because when a reader first reads

Paper Proposal
Eman Haggagi
Philosophy 101
Paper Proposal Islam does not promote violence and terrorism I believe that there have been many
misconceptions of Islam that are portrayed and plastered all over the news, media and even billboard
for years now. Millions of Muslims living in the western world have found themselves under a lot of
inspection by their societies. Charles Peirce a philosopher who is known for his methods for fixing
belief proves a good point and idea in order for people to be more considerable of their thoughts and
beliefs to reason correctly before judging the Islamic religion to be promoting violence. People instead
of judging all people in Islam and any religion, should be thinking more maturely as to who is the evil
doer, instead of taking their anger out on innocent people and the wellbeing in society to keep a unity
in the world. However, another famous philosopher whom I disagree with who argues Peirce s
methods of belief is David Hume. Hume believes that of which to avoid all problems, all religious
belief should be rid of. The question whether Islam promotes violence and terrorism is a question that
I believe is an answer many people don t understand the answer to and lack the knowledge of their
own to make the distinction. In Philosophy the study of Epistemology uses logic to structure an
argument and types of evidence you can use to support certain conclusions. What constitutes people s
knowledge in Islam? This helps support the argument as to

Women During WWII
Many women took over the mens jobs once the war started, and the war gave women good motivation
to fight for their suffrage. President Wilson believed that the women were a vital part of the war effort.
For the womens effort to help the war in 1920 the 19th amendment was ratified. The developments for
women during the war, foreshadowed the future acomplishments women would gain. Toward the end
of the war many women left their jobs to go back to work in the house. Congress supported them in
doing this when they passed the Sheppard Towner Maternity Act of 1921. THis provided federally

The Success of Tylenol Essay
The Success of Tylenol
During the 1900 s, the McNeil company developed and established Tylenol into a well known and
recommended analgesic. It has become recognized world wide as a safe brand of acetaminophen. The
name Tylenol has become identified as a trusted, safe drug that people can easily purchase over the
counter for their ailments. Tylenol is still recommended by doctors even though there was a cyanide
scare in the history of the company. It has been discovered by my independent survey that consumers
use Tylenol for their pet s needs also.

This happened on two occasions, the first in 1982 and the second in 1986. These episodes could have
been devastating to the McNeil company by drastic decrease in consumption of the Tylenol products.
The McNeil company rallied to the situation to counter this possible decrease in consumption.
According to Laurels: The National Business Hall of Fame , Tylenol s share in the one billion dollar
analgesic market commanded thirty five percent of the market before the 1982 incident. At the time of
these episodes, consumer trust was damaged and market share decreased to seven percent. By
February 1983, Tylenol had regained a twenty four percent share of the market(Diary of an Amazing
Comeback). In the 1990 s, Tylenol again reached its thirty five percent of the market which at this
time accounted for a two billion dollar market(Laurels: The National Business Hall of Fame, Fortune).
By regaining their share of the market, this demonstrated that the consumers had faith in the McNeil
company s ability to produce safe and trustworthy products, i.e. Tylenol, for their comfort and
happiness.
In my independent survey, it was noted that a person used Tylenol products for their animal needs as
well. Even though it has a high level of safety in people, it is frequently misused and overdosed in
animals. Tylenol is listed

Reflective Essay Work
When it comes to work, most of my work is comprised of personal projects or school work I don t
have a job in the sense of something that will make me money. I work best when i am told exactly
what my tasks will be and when I have to do them. I can do self directed work, but it is harder for me.
I think it s because when there is someone who is telling me that a certain task is essential, I am afraid
of what will happen if I don t meet the deadline, whereas I don t scare myself as much. As for the the
specific kinds of work I like to do, I enjoy working with both my hands and my mind equally. I don t
enjoy super labor intensive jobs, but I like jobs where I still get to create something. That said, I also
need proof that what I am doing is actually productive, and worth something. What I make does not
have to be a physical object, but I wouldn t be able to stand a job where I know what I do might not
even be used. I do not have an official job. All of the work that I have done has either been for school
or for myself, and a lot of my personal projects are writing or art based, since I want them to lead
directly into practicing skills for a possible future career. These things might not be considered work,
but they are still productive, and the fact that I have thought about how these activities might lead into
a future career might suggest that I have thought about how much effort and time getting and working
at that career will take. In fact, I have both over and

The Delivery Of Law Enforcement
Law enforcement agencies could face severe budget cuts if the nation s economy struggles and local
tax revenues drop. The consequences of spending cuts may cost layoffs, reduced services, shuttered
public facilities and badly needed infrastructure improvements pushed back even further (Tameez,
2014). The delivery of law enforcement services will fundamentally change as a result of severe
budget cuts. Hundreds of officers in a single police department could be laid off, which means there
will be fewer officers to respond to calls for service. In similar views, federal agencies must also have
a strategic fiscal budget plan in order to deliver their services efficiently and promptly.
Information sharing between the intelligence community and local law enforcement is crucial during
catastrophic events such as terrorist attacks, natural and man made disasters. When Hurricane Katrina
made landfall in late August of 2005, its destruction caused many deaths and disruption to the
economy. Houston felt Katrina s impact, but we were not badly hit as New Orleans. Many lessons
were learned from Hurricane Katrina and one such example where poor communication and lack of
information sharing between the federal, state and city law enforcements. It is believed that all levels
of government weren t prepared for a catastrophic incident like Katrina. There were lack of planning
and coordination; overlapping of rescue teams was dispatched to the same location while leaving

Explain Four Stages Of Teamwork
Introduction :
A team is made of two or more people who have a certain goal and work together for achievement of
that goal, The dynamics of working in a team are extremely important in a oraganization. In school, in
different activities, we learned the basics of working in a team. In order to work in a team to be more
productive and successful, you need to be able to accept the difference between people opininons and
to create balance between ideas.

In order for a team to function it passes through several stages. Bruce Tuckman has made a research
about stage development of teamwork. He has identified four stages of group development.

The Legal Concepts Of An Offer Essay
a) Common Law Offer The Legal Concepts of an Offer An offer is a conditional promise made by the
offeror to the offeree. The offeror will not be bound by her or his promise unless the offeree responds
to it in the manner sought by the offeror. That is why it is said the offer is conditional. In the other
word, the definition of an offer is a statement made by an offeror that he or she is prepared to be
bound to a contractual position the first essential element to the meeting of the minds of the
contracting parties. The Requirement of an Offer 1) Present intention to contract The language used in
an offer should present a commitment or undertaking. 2) Definiteness An offer should be definite and
should be made under such circumstances that the person receiving the offer has reason to believe that
the offeror is willing to deal on the terms indicated. 3) Proper Party Involving two parties: the offeror
and offeree. An offer creates in someone the power to accept, therefore, the communication must
sufficiently identify the offeree or the class from whom the offeree may emerge. b) Common Law
Acceptance The Legal Concepts of an Acceptance An acceptance is a statement by one party (offeree)
that he or she is willing/ prepared to be bound by the terms of the offer, the second essential element to
the meeting of the minds of the contracting party. The Requirement of an Acceptance In acceptance,
there must be a clear indication of intent to accept. The acceptance may take

How Social Media Has Changed Our Culture
Social media has changed our culture in ways many, in years past, would have thought to be
impossible. With the advent of social media, people are connected around the world. Using the
internet we can have face to face conversations, write letters , play games, and much more with others
instantly without the need of being in the same room as them. Even though we are all constantly
connected, some feel our technological innovations are causing us to become lonelier. Many feel
physical interactions are key to creating emotional bonds. Some even feel left out because they are not
technologically incline. Those who believe technology is making us lonelier often note how some
people say they have friends that they have never met in real life, or cite shows like Catfish where
people fall in love with others over the internet, but the person they thought they were talking to is not
actually who they were talking to. Though some may think technology is making us lonelier, in
actuality it bring us closer together. The internet is amazing. It connects people all around the world. A
few summers ago I went to camp in New Hampshire and met people from around the country and
around the world. At camp I became friends with a guy named Vicente. Vincente lives in Spain. We
became close friends at camp. When camp was over we were not disappointed because when we made
it back home we connected via Facebook. From there we exchanged Gamertags and where playing

The Beauty Of Women
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; however, does the appearance of women affect their success in
the workplace or socially? In today s society, there has been an increase of women who want to attain
the Instagram body. The women who choose to have surgery feel that achieving the perfect Instagram
body will benefit them in the long run by allowing them (in most cases) to become a model or receive
other jobs related to their bodies. Getting a job is only one benefit of a better appearance. Permanently
or temporarily changing their appearance, to fit a certain beauty standard, allows women to positively
benefit socially or in the workplace.
There is this idea that beauty sells, however, people have found a loophole in this theory. In a study
conducted in 2006, evidence suggested that The unbecoming... profit from their lack of looks
[because] people... expect less from the unattractive, so when they surpass those low expectations they
are rewarded (Tucker). Society holds attractive people to a higher standard. People expect them to
have superior qualities and outperform less attractive people. However, when attractive people fail to
meet the standards society has set for them, they are labeled as a disappointment. Because standards
for attractive people are set lower, it allows them to achieve success easier, eventually resulting in
higher pay or promotions. Although appearance for certain people may not affect them in the
workplace, that is not deemed true for everyone. For

Perspective In Elie Wiesel s Night
Perspective is important. The way you look at something may be drastically different from the way I
look at something, giving us a potentially vast difference in opinion. This applies to literature as well
and is shown in the different narratives the stories are written in. Different stories are better written in
different types of narratives (including first, second or third person narratives) and Night is no
exception. Night is written in a first person narrative, which in my opinion, is very effective in
carrying across the author s point. First person narration in this novel allows us to connect with the
narrator and understand the situation in a realistic sense, as well as being the most fitting narrative for
this novel, it makes sense ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is to say writing in first person can allow the author to be more descriptive with the way he
writes his scenes. An example of a very descriptive scene is when the Jews were on the train cars,
heading towards Buchenwald. Passersby threw bread into the cattle cars and watched as the Jews tore
each other apart for the crust of it. An especially gruesome part of this event is written in the
following: He was hiding a piece of bread under his shirt. With lightning speed he pulled it out and put
it to his mouth. His eyes lit up, a smile, like a grimace, illuminated his ashen face. And was
immediately extinguished. A shadow had lain down beside him. And this shadow threw itself over
him. Stunned by the blows, the old man was crying: Meir, my little Meir! Don t you recognize me...
You re killing your father... I have bread... for you too... for you too... (Wiesel, 101) The use of first
person narration is very effective here. Elie, as a 16 year old boy, watched the worst of humanity
through his own two eyes. It is hard to provide a description as chilling as this one with other types of

The Performance Measurement Questionnaire
The Performance Measurement Questionnaire (PMQ)
The Performance Measurement Questionnaire (PMQ) proposed by Dixon (1991) serves as a

actions and measures. The PMQ is divided into four parts. As the first step, it must gather general data

is a landlocked country in South Asia. It is home to Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, and
another 7 mountains which are among the ten tallest mountains. Nepal s capital city is Katmandu. I
will be comparing Nepal to Australia. Australia (Commonwealth of Australia) is an island country
(Oceania). Surrounded by the Pacific and Indian oceans, it is the largest country in Oceania and 7th
largest country in the world. Australia s capital is Canberra but its economical capital is Sydney. There
are many essential aspects of life which include; income, education, food and water, health and
shelter. Income is money received, especially on a regular basis, for work or through investments. The
weekly income of a laborer in Australia is $622.20 ($476.11 USD) whereas a Nepalese laborer would
make 2000 NPR ($19.31 USD) . Education is the process of receiving or giving systematic
instruction, especially at a school or university. The expected amount of schooling years in Nepal is

The Platonist Tradition and the Ordering of Knowledge...
The Platonist Tradition and the Ordering of Knowledge
ABSTRACT: I argue that the contemporary crisis in education that nothing appears valid as a
discipline unless it has a utilitarian value may be challenged from the perspective of the Platonist
tradition. The ascent through philosophy to the vision of Beauty in itself in Plato s Symposium affirms
the perception of beauty or nobility as the ultimate end and value of all knowledge. Marsilio Ficino s
adaption of Plato in the Renaissance articulates a more metaphysical ascent which broadens the
objects of knowledge in order to include the cosmos and the arts as well as philosophy. Together, these
two accounts provide a foundation for understanding the ordering of all knowledge ... Show more

Of course, they are disappointed to discover that philosophy has more questions than answers, and that
there is no answer which has not been disputed. Nevertheless, they approach the subject in the same
spirit as traditional philosophical inquiry. In this spirit, then, it is appropriate to seek an answer to the
question, What is the value of education? Indeed, this question presupposes an answer to an even
more basic one: What is education?
It is difficult to articulate responses to these questions. Can liberal education today be really non
utilitarian, as it was for Aristotle, motivated by pure curiosity and a concern for excellence? (3) Such a
response has the merit of joining battle directly with the modern mentality, but it presupposes the
system of moral and intellectual virtues as defining human excellence. On the other hand, it is
impossible to follow the classical tradition and find a moral value in literature and the fine arts without
drawing critical distinctions regarding the moral value of particular works. This, however, has long
been foreclosed by the Kantian doctrine of the autonomy of aesthetic judgment. (4) In any case, it is
unclear what might be the source of moral judgment in the modern world; the classical concept of
virtue presupposed both a concept of the soul and a concept of citizenship in a particular locality. (5)
All three concepts have largely disappeared in the modern

The Nation s Drug Problem Essay
Nation s Drug Problem (United States)
Over the last couple of years, there has been increased concern over the effects of drugs on the health
of Americans. This is mainly due to the increased use of drugs by most citizens, which has caused the
government to spend a lot of money to curb this problem. One of the most abused drugs is alcohol,
and American citizens are increasingly becoming addicted to it. It is also the most undesirable drug, as
it costs the government over $200 billion in terms of productivity, health and crime related costs
(Office of National Drug Control Policy 2).
Marijuana, which accounts for over $100 billion in costs, is the next most common drug after alcohol.
Drug addiction is not only in adults, but also in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cocaine use is however on the decline, mainly due to the legal frameworks established to curb its
transit and sale. Heroin is also rarely used and the reason for the decline is the increased fight against
illegal drug use by government agencies. With increased use, these two drugs cause serious addiction
that takes time and money to control. Although marijuana is illegal in most states, the continuing
debate aimed at making it legal causes the drug to increase in popularity and availability. Despite the
fact that it is illegal, marijuana s popularity has continued to increase.
According to recent research by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
(SAMHSA), prescription drugs are also being misused (Brauser 1). Although the focus has been
mainly on the illegal drugs, most citizens have continuously abused the prescription drugs. According
to the report, there has been an increase in the opiate admissions from 8% to 33% in a span of ten
years (Brauser 1). This is a very huge increase compared to the indulgence in other drugs and
substances. One of the reasons cited as the possible explanation for the increased abuse of prescription
drugs is ignorance. Most individuals have resorted into making their own judgments concerning
illnesses and purchasing drugs without directions from medical practitioners.
Making decisions about the drugs to take amid health conditions should be the work of the doctor.
However, most individuals make assumptions and

In male dominated cultures sex roles are sharply differentiated. There is a clear role distribution which
suggests itself in the fact that men are superior to women and men normally occupy management
positions. Hence, the focus is on achievement, competition and fighting . However, in female oriented
cultures genders are less distinguished and both genders play the same role. These cultures stress care,
compromise and harmony.
The fourth dimension called Uncertainty Avoidance aims at the way people try to get a grip on
unpredictable and ambiguous situations. People living in a culture with strong uncertainty avoidance
have fear of the unknown. Therefore elaborate rules, regulations, and clear orders exist. Cultures with
a low uncertainty avoidance tolerate differences, unanticipated situations and are more open toward
change. People make decisions which are subject to individual discretion and which are based on
more universal rules.
Long Term Orientation vs. Short Term Orientation relate to the choice between future and present
virtue. In other words, Hofstede s last dimension can be seen as an indicator for a society s attitude
toward time and tradition. Values associated with Long Term
Orientation are thrift, filial piety and perseverance. Young people should sacrifice their pleasures of
their life at their young age for the sake of the benefit of their future. Values associated with Short
Term Orientation are respect for tradition, fulfilling social

If change is forced on people normally problems occur. Change must be realistic, achievable and
measurable, so as managing director it is extremely important to understand how to engage
employees, and lead the business, in working around this change (TFG 2014). Change management
enables employees to adopt a change so that business objectives and outcomes can be achieved.
Whenever there is some sort of organizational change employees can experience varied levels of
discomfort. As managing director leading change requires juggling a number of psychological factors,
such as how employees think, how they perceive their current situation, how they will perceive a new
change (Price and Lawson 2008). To ensure the success of any change initiative, manager s efforts
should go first towards considering how your employees will perceive the change and approaching
this in the best way. Planning, leading organizing, negotiating and controlling are four management
functions that can be used and implemented to keep employees motivated towards company goals and
reassured about the businesses direction in a time of change.
Organizations are continually faced with a changing environment, therefore a need for a shift in
strategic direction, must be implemented. The successes of major organizational change initiatives are
almost always dependent on the incorporation of its workers and employees to help implement these
changes.

To begin with, facing the unfairness of segregation, all African Americans were fed up with the Bus

Analysis Of Chesterton And His Literary Masterpiece
While doing research on G.K. Chesterton and his literary masterpiece, I came upon this question What
is the difference between progress and growth? to which G.K. Chesterton answered The fatal
metaphor of progress, which means leaving things behind us, has utterly obscured the real idea of
growth, which means leaving things inside of us. This statement is just one of the plethora of
quotations of a man who never attended any university, and it amazing how he can say something
about everything and say it better than everybody else. This is a journey to understand a genius and

Although he never went to college, he proved that genius cannot be tied down to the rules of the
academy. Chesterton, in fact, chose to be a journalist, because in that role he could think most
profoundly, powerfully, and effectively.
He was vitally concerned with the injustices of Great Britain to its dependencies. He progressed from
newspaper to public debate. He used logic, laughter, paradox, and his own winning personality to
show that imperialism was destroying English patriotism.
In 1900 he published his first literary works, two volumes of poetry. In 1900 he met Hilaire Belloc,
and in 1901 he married Frances Blogg. These events were two of the great influences in his life. From
1904 to 1936 Chesterton published nearly a dozen novels, the most important being The Napoleon of
Notting Hill (1904) and The Man Who Was Thursday (1908). In 1911 Chesterton created the Father
Brown detective stories. During his literary career he published 90 books and numerous articles.
He poured out a wealth of lighthearted essays, historical sketches, and metaphysical and polemical
works, together with such well known poems as The Ballad of the White Horse, Lepanto, and the
drinking songs from The Flying Inn. Among his major critical works are reviews of Robert Browning
(1903) and Charles Dickens (1906). Prodigiously talented, Chesterton also illustrated a number of

The Postmorbid Condition by Vivian Sobchack Essays
Reading Questions on the essay: The Postmorbid Condition by Vivian Sobchack
1. Sobchack s argument pertaining to on screen violence that she wrote thirty years ago was that any
violent acts portrayed in movies back then was to emphasize the importance of an element in a story,
an emphatic way of engaging the viewers and forcing them to feel what the movie was about. It gave
them a sense of the substance of the plot which would allow them to feel for the characters and yearn
for good to overcome evil. In other words, the effort made to engage audiences through depictions of
violence created violence that was artistic and well done, or as Sobchack writes, violence was
aestheticized. Violence was incorporated into film in a stylistic ... Show more content on

Sobchack also states that meaningless violence, or violence with no significance is not only prevalent
in film, but in everyday life as well.
4. Irony and Satire do contribute to the desensitizing of audiences due to the fact that the meaning of
violence is completely abandoned and viewers see only the comedic side of the scene. For example, in
Pulp Fiction Jules recites from the Bible before killing his victim, completely turning the attention of
viewers from the meaning of the young man s impending death, and in the scene entitled The Bonnie
Situation, the cleanup of the killing is focused on more than the senseless, meaningless act itself.
Modern violence in movies, in Sobchack s words, have become excessive in violence and that when
they elicit screams, they also elicit laughter. Too much violence becomes so outrageous and over the
top that gore and the quantity of death are expected, and that is considered funny by audiences (432).
As a result, violence does not seem real anymore.

White Collar Crime And Nonviolar Crime
When we think of crime today what comes to mind? The robbing of a gas station? Breaking and
entering into a house at night? Murder? While it is true that all of these are indeed forms of crime
there is another criminal component in today s world that does not get recognized as much as the
others. This is white collar crime. In white collar crime, the victim rarely sees the offender face to
face. Instead technology is used to create false financial statements and steal money from
corporations, individuals, or both.
Simply defined, white collar crime can be described as A nonviolent crime committed for financial
gain. White collar crime can occur in the form of securities fraud, embezzlement, money laundering,
and other illegal activities than generate financial returns outside of legal practices. In the extremely
competitive business world, white collar crime and other scandals are unfortunately very common.

When Bob Iger succeeded Michael Eisner, he was considered a safe Mr. Inside who was a competent
operator and an unobjectionable personality.
Iger has steered Disney shrewdly since succeeding Michael Eisner. Where Eisner seemed forever
awash in controversies, Iger has chosen a shrewder, less confrontational path. It has helped Iger build
a stellar reputation on Wall Street, where the money barons don t like provocation.
His calmer approach helped repair key relationships that were strained during Eisners reign as CEO.
He believed in being productive instead of fighting wars and that gave a sign of relief to the company.
He was not too adherent to the company tradition rather he focused on being more innovative. He
encouraged risk taking as a means of innovation and development. He took risk to expand Disney
business adding broad mix of business to its portfolio like ABC family, ESPN and Disney channels.
He bought Pixar for $7.4 billion in 2006, gaining unmatched creative resources as well as the close
counsel of Pixar founder Steve Jobs (whose estate is Disney s single largest shareholder). He followed

Festinger s Cognitive Dissonance Theory Analysis
how we feel if we do something we don t like or want to do. Around college campus you see many
students smoking and they are around an educational environment. They know that smoking causes
cancer but they still smoke. When people smoke that s their behavior and they know that smoking
cause s cancer is cognition. Festinger s cognitive dissonance theory suggests that we have an inner
drive to hold all our attitudes and beliefs in harmony and avoid disharmony or dissonance (Mcleod,
2016). College campuses have become a place where students and teachers have to think twice before
they speak. Our speech can be offensive to some students from different cultural backgrounds.
Lukianoff and Haidt, authors of The Atlantic, argue we live in a world full of potential offenses. ...

This form of psychotherapy is designed to treat depression and change unhelpful way of thinking and
behavior. In the Theory of Cognitive Dissonace, Festinger spreads the theory through the principle of
cognitive consistency. This principle is Festiner s main focus of cognitive dissonance. This theory
starts from the idea that we seek consistency in our beliefs and attitudes in any situation where two
cognitions are inconsistent (). This theory can be applied in Carlos Mencia s case, where he did a
standup act at Rutgers University s homecoming. A student activist complained that the routine was
littered with racial and sexual epithets (Donnelly and Zerbib 2015). Mencia was very surprised how
the student reacted to his standup performance. Mencia responded back to The Wrap saying, I
personally thought I was a huge success in the fact that, for the first time, somebody pointed out that
the exception and not the rule. In this situation Mencia, pointed out just because one student feels this
way not all students feel the

Johnny Cash Influence
His influence on music is still noticed today. He was rated as one of the most promising country artist
and the most promising artist ( Cash, Johnny 2). His music is one of a kind. He was an influential
country artist, but also a rock n roll singer (Gill 1). He acted like he did not know music genres
(Corliss 2). He was the first artist to combine rock n roll with country (Conniff 1). Even though he is
one of the most known country singers, and also one of the creators of rock and roll (DeCurtis Johnny
Cash 1). He is one of the two people ever elected to both the country and rock and roll hall of fame
(DeCurtis Johnny Cash 1). His unknown music genre shows artists they do not have to stick to one
genre throughout their whole career. He also had a huge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is dressed completely different than other artist (DeCurtis Johnny Cash 2). He did not want to
simply blend in with the other artists, he wanted to be his own person. He was not able to read music
so he just plays the tune over and over until the others get it ( Cash, Johnny 3). Even though he could
not read music, he still pursued his dream. This shows younger artists that if they want to do
something bad enough, never give up. He got everything he had overtime. From his rugged looks to
his one of a kind voice (Corliss 2). He shows newer musicians things take time to come, do not give
up just because they do not get something. He also showed them a very important quality in famous
people. John never thought of himself as a big star musician, but as a friend to his fans and others (Gill
1). He shows that musicians should be modest and caring towards all of their fans. He also influenced
music through all of his awards. He received many awards for his albums and songs ( Cash, Johnny
3). He earned a grammy for a folk album (Corliss 5). He won 9 grammys, 6 CMA awards, and won a
aggie award (Corliss 8). His awards show all of his achievements and provide

Interview with a Manager
| MANAGER INTERVIEW | | |
Introduction: Leadership is understanding people and involving them to help you do a job. That takes
all of the good characteristics, like integrity, dedication of purpose, selflessness, knowledge, skill,
implacability, as well as determination not to accept failure (Burke 1995). The purpose of this paper is
to interview a manager from an organization and find out the leadership styles she uses to effectively
manage the staff there. This paper also looks at the approach she uses toward employment satisfaction,
how she motivates the employees and analyzes the different approaches she uses in her job. The
manager that I interviewed works in Loui Café in Penn University. Her name is Bobby Hill and she ...

If everyone worked equally aiming towards the same goal, the employees will be satisfied with their
job and in turn the customers will be happy with the service they received. Laura L. Paglis and
Stephen G. Green states in the article, Leadership Self Efficacy and Managers Motivation for Leading
Change that leadership efficacy helps in building the relationship of the manager with the employees,
gaining their commitment to the organization to change goals that have been set, and overcome any
problems that they face along the way. It has been found that managers with higher self efficacy are
more likely to initiate efforts into achieving the set goals for the organization (Paglis et al, 2002).
Ms. Hill works as a transactional leader in the café as she sets goals and rewards or punishes the
employees according to their performance in the job. She helps them achieve their potential by
training them to work effectively. While aiming for customer satisfaction, she also makes sure that the
employees are satisfied with the work environment and the co workers they work with and gives them
employee benefits appropriately. Mark A. Griffin, Malcolm G. Patterson and Michael A. West point
out in the article, Job Satisfaction and Teamwork: The Role of Supervisor Support that job
satisfactions depends on three main factors; the organization and formation of the group, the process
that the group uses to get their work done and

Tell Tale Heart And The Monkey s Paw Comparison
The horror genre is often used for entertainment, but occasionally important life lessons can be found
within the tales. The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and The Monkey s Paw by W. W. Jacob s are
two such stories that have much to say when digging more deeply into their pages. The Tell Tale Heart
tells a story of a deranged man who becomes obsessed with his elderly neighbor s blind eye, leading to
him killing the old man and burying the body beneath the floorboards. The Monkey s Paw is a story
about a family that comes to possess an ancient relic that will supposedly grant three wishes. A
careless wish leads to the son s death, and consequent horrors ensue. The Tell Tale Heart has a theme
of Guilt may lead people to their undoing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader is left wondering whether or not the paw really can give wishes and what the Whites might
wish for, relating to the first part of the theme. Mr. White s son, Herbert, suggests they wish for two
hundred pounds in order to pay off their house (Jacobs 109). This begins to showcase the theme as it is
revealed what they are wishing for. When Herbert turns up dead and the family gets 200 pounds as
compensation, this also develops the theme because they got what they wanted, but at a cost (Jacobs
112). At the end of the story, another wish is made for [their] son to be alive again (Jacobs 115). Soon
after, there is a knocking at the door and the reader may assume that is Herbert back from the dead.
However, if it is, Herbert is very likely mutilated due to the nature of his death (Jacobs 114).
Therefore, at the last moment, Mr. White makes a final wish for his son to be gone. The theme is
developed throughout this because although the Whites got what they wanted (money and then
safety), it came at the expense of their son s life and absence

Donald Trump Monologue
There s always that time when your Best Friend forces you to do something or in my case, my only
friend forced me to come to this dumb party. If I didn t want to spend eight hours with those idiots,
what makes you think I ll like to go to one of their parties, and spend even more time with them. The
smell of liquor will make me go nose blind in a matter of minutes, just like in those febreeze
commercials. The blaring music wouldn t go unnoticed not even by a death person. There were a
million of things wrong with going to this party for example, getting drunk, which leads to being

This question inevitably brings up discussion of spirituality, beliefs, and legislation. Euthanasia is an idea that has been around for decades yet as we progress in technology and medical competency the discussion screams to be addressed formally by passing legislature. Euthanasia must be taken out of the hands of lawmakers and put into the hands of the thousands fatally ill patients trapped in their own bodies and/or minds. It is our responsibility as a society of profound thinking individuals to discuss this difficult and troubling issue that has plagued the lives of families all over the entire world. As of right now there are two countries that have legalized euthanasia, The Netherlands and Belgium, along with Australia s Northern Territory. The debate has multiple angles of support and opposition. The leading support groups for euthanasia center around the fact that it is their lives to control. Many schools do not have policies that allow trans students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity. This creates a difficult learning experience for the trans student, because they are put into uncomfortable situations. Trans students are more often than not to use the bathroom and locker that matches their biological sex and not their gender identity. They are then placed into a bathroom that is not for their gender, it is the same as forcing a man to use the women s restroom. It further enforces that there is a gender binary, that is a socially accepted norm, and that trans students are not a part of it. Students should all feel ... Ethics Involved. Ethics play an important role in leadership, they allow for service organizations to work towards the common good. (Manning, 2003). What is a social good? The social goods produced through the human service sector strengthen individuals, families, organizations, and communities through the services provided in health and mental health care, education, social welfare, criminal justice, and many other fields of practice (Manning, 2003). Where do ethics come into play for the transgender students, who no longer have adequate bathroom and locker room access? Who decides what is ethical when decisions like this are made? In this case it is President Donald Trump is the leader. It is the responsibility of the leader to make ethical decisions that benefit the good in society. (Manning, 2003). When President Trump made his ruling to make trans bathroom access in schools a state decision instead of a federal one, he is putting 150,000 students in harms way. Now that trans bathroom access in schools is in the hands of the state, it is now their responsibility to shoulder the blame for the consequences of the removal of trans students from Title IX. When reading this quote, it reminded me of someone trying to bounce their way back from an addiction. People all over the world struggle daily with an addiction. It can be very heart breaking for some families to watch family members or friends be taken away from an addiction they have. Alcoholism is a very common addiction today and has been for years. In which in other terms, quitting cold turkey is something that can be very hard to do; especially with no outside support whatsoever. If a person tries to change their alcoholic ways cold turkey with no help from peers, then the person will end up failing with their attempt to beat alcoholism. Stephen Wilcox states that Excessive alcohol use kills 88,000 people annually, and is the third leading lifestyle related cause of death in the Nation (Wilcox). Losing a loved one because of a fixable problem is so heartbreaking. It can make families and friends feel broken, because they could ve helped if they would ve known, or they blame themselves and think how could I have not known. I m sure a lot of you are wondering, what is Alcoholics Anonymous? Stated on their website, Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. These camps were administered by the government agency known as The Main Administration of Corrective Labor Camps and Labor Settlements. This agency was then referred to as the acronym for this title Gulag and eventually the whole camp system was known as the Gulag (Applebaum viii). The Gulags were the Soviet s penal system and Stalin s administration used the camps as free labor to complete construction projects involving canals, railways, roads, and mines. Even after the death of Josef Stalin, the release of massive numbers of prisoners, and crumble of communism, the Soviet Union still could not come to terms with its totalitarian past. The prisoners adapted to the difficult living in the camps but once they were back in society they had a difficult time readjusting as not to be maladaptive (Frankl 135). During the 50 s and 60 s doctors could legally only treat the somatic symptoms of camp survivors, although they knew of the camp syndrome that plagued their patients psychologically. During this time there was also no field of specialization for post traumatic stress syndrome or any scientific articles published about the syndrome. Beginning in 1992 and previously as a branch of Memorial, an organization called Compassion was formed to remedy postponed psychosomatic consequences of torture, enforced by age, pathology, and unfavorable living conditions. (Adler 115) Their treatment and research has led to the development of official and scientific findings regarding the experience of repression. Survivors also felt it was safer to speak of the previously taboo subject of the Gulags after the formal dissolution of the Soviet Union. Between 1992 and 1997, four million applications were filed for rehabilitation and yet only 1.5 million were granted (Frierson and Vilensky 303). Out of all the pieces of literature the students read, the students will debate which piece they believe is best. Once all these pieces are chosen, an anthology is created, The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2014 . This essay suggests that the narrator is drowning, Looking back, I wonder why all of us who were subject to my grandfather s assaults me, my sisters, my cousins, and my mother, her sister, their cousins before us didn t display more unmistakable signs of distress (Morgan 322). This quote suggests that the narrator feels like she is drowning, because the author states that drowning is quiet, and that is what the narrator doing, keeping quiet by not saying anything. Readers could interpret the drowning swimmers as depressed people or the swimmers in distress as the people who experience temporary panic, like students panicking over an essay. The swimmers in distress are the people who panic over something that will eventually pass, because they feel as if there is hope for them. If readers do not interpret the narrator as depressed, they may say that narrator did not say anything because she did not know what to say, and writing this essay was enough to speak out. Essays found in the anthology are compelling because of the way certain concepts were expressed in the essays. The authors do not fully give away what happens after the essay or what each thing symbolizes. These pieces give the readers a sense of mystery. When a sense of mystery is given, people are able to debate what happens in the piece. The essay, The Body by A.T Grant is a great example of this because when a reader first reads ... Paper Proposal Eman Haggagi Philosophy 101 Paper Proposal Islam does not promote violence and terrorism I believe that there have been many misconceptions of Islam that are portrayed and plastered all over the news, media and even billboard for years now. Millions of Muslims living in the western world have found themselves under a lot of inspection by their societies. Charles Peirce a philosopher who is known for his methods for fixing belief proves a good point and idea in order for people to be more considerable of their thoughts and beliefs to reason correctly before judging the Islamic religion to be promoting violence. People instead of judging all people in Islam and any religion, should be thinking more maturely as to who is the evil doer, instead of taking their anger out on innocent people and the wellbeing in society to keep a unity in the world. However, another famous philosopher whom I disagree with who argues Peirce s methods of belief is David Hume. Hume believes that of which to avoid all problems, all religious belief should be rid of. The question whether Islam promotes violence and terrorism is a question that I believe is an answer many people don t understand the answer to and lack the knowledge of their own to make the distinction. In Philosophy the study of Epistemology uses logic to structure an argument and types of evidence you can use to support certain conclusions. What constitutes people s knowledge in Islam? • 28. The Platonist Tradition and the Ordering of Knowledge... The Platonist Tradition and the Ordering of Knowledge ABSTRACT: I argue that the contemporary crisis in education that nothing appears valid as a discipline unless it has a utilitarian value may be challenged from the perspective of the Platonist tradition. The ascent through philosophy to the vision of Beauty in itself in Plato s Symposium affirms the perception of beauty or nobility as the ultimate end and value of all knowledge. Marsilio Ficino s adaption of Plato in the Renaissance articulates a more metaphysical ascent which broadens the objects of knowledge in order to include the cosmos and the arts as well as philosophy. Together, these two accounts provide a foundation for understanding the ordering of all knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, they are disappointed to discover that philosophy has more questions than answers, and that there is no answer which has not been disputed. Nevertheless, they approach the subject in the same spirit as traditional philosophical inquiry. In this spirit, then, it is appropriate to seek an answer to the question, What is the value of education? Indeed, this question presupposes an answer to an even more basic one: What is education? It is difficult to articulate responses to these questions. Can liberal education today be really non utilitarian, as it was for Aristotle, motivated by pure curiosity and a concern for excellence? (3) Such a response has the merit of joining battle directly with the modern mentality, but it presupposes the system of moral and intellectual virtues as defining human excellence. On the other hand, it is impossible to follow the classical tradition and find a moral value in literature and the fine arts without drawing critical distinctions regarding the moral value of particular works. This, however, has long been foreclosed by the Kantian doctrine of the autonomy of aesthetic judgment. (4) In any case, it is unclear what might be the source of moral judgment in the modern world; the classical concept of virtue presupposed both a concept of the soul and a concept of citizenship in a particular locality. This is mainly due to the increased use of drugs by most citizens, which has caused the government to spend a lot of money to curb this problem. One of the most abused drugs is alcohol, and American citizens are increasingly becoming addicted to it. It is also the most undesirable drug, as it costs the government over $200 billion in terms of productivity, health and crime related costs (Office of National Drug Control Policy 2). Cocaine use is however on the decline, mainly due to the legal frameworks established to curb its transit and sale. Heroin is also rarely used and the reason for the decline is the increased fight against illegal drug use by government agencies. With increased use, these two drugs cause serious addiction that takes time and money to control. Although marijuana is illegal in most states, the continuing debate aimed at making it legal causes the drug to increase in popularity and availability. Despite the fact that it is illegal, marijuana s popularity has continued to increase. According to recent research by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), prescription drugs are also being misused (Brauser 1). Although the focus has been mainly on the illegal drugs, most citizens have continuously abused the prescription drugs. According to the report, there has been an increase in the opiate admissions from 8% to 33% in a span of ten years (Brauser 1). This is a very huge increase compared to the indulgence in other drugs and substances. One of the reasons cited as the possible explanation for the increased abuse of prescription drugs is ignorance. Most individuals have resorted into making their own judgments concerning illnesses and purchasing drugs without directions from medical practitioners. Making decisions about the drugs to take amid health conditions should be the work of the doctor. However, most individuals make assumptions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a clear role distribution which suggests itself in the fact that men are superior to women and men normally occupy management positions. Hence, the focus is on achievement, competition and fighting . However, in female oriented cultures genders are less distinguished and both genders play the same role. These cultures stress care, compromise and harmony. The fourth dimension called Uncertainty Avoidance aims at the way people try to get a grip on unpredictable and ambiguous situations. People living in a culture with strong uncertainty avoidance have fear of the unknown. Therefore elaborate rules, regulations, and clear orders exist. Cultures with a low uncertainty avoidance tolerate differences, unanticipated situations and are more open toward change. People make decisions which are subject to individual discretion and which are based on more universal rules. Long Term Orientation vs. Short Term Orientation relate to the choice between future and present virtue. In other words, Hofstede s last dimension can be seen as an indicator for a society s attitude toward time and tradition. Sobchack s argument pertaining to on screen violence that she wrote thirty years ago was that any violent acts portrayed in movies back then was to emphasize the importance of an element in a story, an emphatic way of engaging the viewers and forcing them to feel what the movie was about. It gave them a sense of the substance of the plot which would allow them to feel for the characters and yearn for good to overcome evil. In other words, the effort made to engage audiences through depictions of violence created violence that was artistic and well done, or as Sobchack writes, violence was aestheticized. Violence was incorporated into film in a stylistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sobchack also states that meaningless violence, or violence with no significance is not only prevalent in film, but in everyday life as well. 4. Irony and Satire do contribute to the desensitizing of audiences due to the fact that the meaning of violence is completely abandoned and viewers see only the comedic side of the scene. For example, in Pulp Fiction Jules recites from the Bible before killing his victim, completely turning the attention of viewers from the meaning of the young man s impending death, and in the scene entitled The Bonnie Situation, the cleanup of the killing is focused on more than the senseless, meaningless act itself. Modern violence in movies, in Sobchack s words, have become excessive in violence and that when they elicit screams, they also elicit laughter. Too much violence becomes so outrageous and over the top that gore and the quantity of death are expected, and that is considered funny by audiences (432). As a result, violence does not seem real anymore. Reading questions on the essay, A Moral Never Never Land: Identifying with Tony Soprano by James Harold. 1.
