Antoine Lavoisier
The law of conservation of mass states that mass cannot created or destroyed but how did this law
come to be. Well the ancient Greeks proposed that the total amount of matter in the universe is
constant. But the law was first confirmed in about 1785 by Antoine Lavoisier when he weighed his
reactants before the reaction and after the reaction and they weighed the same. We can still perform
this experiment and see that Lavoisier s conclusion was true.
You may be wondering who Lavoisier is well to start off he was a scientist. LAvoisier was a
revolutionary when it came to chemistry, for one he named the elements carbon, hydrogen, and
oxygen. Even with all of his great achievements and ideas he almost didn t get into the world of
science. His father encouraged him to do the same as he become a lawyer and Lavoisier listened and
got his degree but realized that he rather be doing science. If it wasn t for his want for science we
could have been left without some major ideas and discoveries that are important in today. ... Show

One way you can show the law of conservation of mass is with ice. First you get a cup put it on a scale
and zero it out now drop ice into to and record the weight. After that you wait for the ice to melt and
you should see that the weights are almost exactly the same. Another way is to get a plate zero it out
on a scale and then put a candle on it and record the weight. After that you light the candle than let the
wax become a liquid, then weigh and see that the weigh is the

Yellowtone Super-Volcano Essay
Waiting underneath Yellowstone National Park In the northwest of America, there lies one of the
largest super volcano s that could wipe out majority of the United States. Yes, Yellowstone National
Park sits on top of a giant volcanic caldera. A cap made of earth that shields a huge reservoir of liquid
rock. Now, the floor of the caldera is in fact rising, and earthquakes in the region suggest magma
movement beneath the park. Despite your initial nail biting thoughts, this is actually normal. However,
Yellowstone being a super volcano has many worried of the devastation it can bring. The defining
points that make a Super volcano is an eruption scale of 8 or higher on the Volcano Explosivity Index.

The For Terminally Ill Cancer Patients
Sarah Broom was a mother diagnosed with lung cancer and given a life expectancy of a couple of
months. Darshak Sanghavi, a doctor who communicated with Broom throughout the last couple of
years of her life shares how access to experimental drugs first through a clinical trial and then through
compassionate access gave her four more years with her children after standard treatment failed.
Stories like Broom s raise the question of whether cancer patients should be able to use drugs that
have not finished testing. According to the Food and Drug Administration s website use of an
experimental drug outside of clinical trials is called expanded (or compassionate access) and is
possible if a company agrees to provide the drug, a doctor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was diagnosed with skin cancer and his tumors were not responding to his current treatment. There
was a new drug in testing that held promise to control the cancer, but although the drug s clinical
testing process had been quickened by the FDA because it showed promise as a breakthrough therapy ,
Auden was not given access to it and he died. His anguish over his lack of time is evident when he
said, Why can t [Merck] supply me now [with the drug] rather than missing me by a couple of
months? Similar appeals for immediacy are at the heart of the argument for access. Terminally ill
patients argue that the disease in their body is developing faster than the drugs to fight the disease and
that they do not have the time to wait until the drug is released or has passed another phase of the trial.
Patient also feel that only allowing drugs to be used for clinical trials to encourage greater
participation in testing is unfair. Being a part of a drug trial is not easy for patients. Chahal points out
that tests are often conducted in major cities, requiring many patients to spend significant amounts of
time away from their hometown (368). Leaving home requires extra expenses for travel, lodging, and
food and extra emotional strain from being away from family and friends. However, many deem these
hardships as necessary for the moment in exchange for the

A Research On Social Media
Forrester Research provided the research behind Social Technographics. Their research identified six
types of the social media users and how they interact in the online environment. The Social
Technographics ladder presented in Figure 3.3. of our reading depicts a ladder with different
participation groups at each rung. These groups include: creators, conversationalists, critics, collectors,
joiners, spectators, and inactives. It is worth noting that these groups are not exclusive, meaning a user
could fit into multiple categories for different interactions (Tuten Solomon, 2013, p. 74). Skittles is a
poplar candy brand known for their wacky advertising. It is no wonder that their social media
marketing would be just as wacky and popular. Skittles must be very aware to the different categories
of the ladder to be so successful in their social media marketing efforts. Creators are the content
creators. Their content is shared with other users and adds to the social media experience. User
generated content can include: video, photos, blogs, vlogs, comments, podcasts, forums, product
reviews, wiki contributions, and consumer created advertising. Creators are distinguished as users who
provide content for other users interact with and constitute 24 percent of social media participants

Tragic Impact Of Princess Diana
THE IMPACT OF THE GRIM FAIRY TALE OF LADY DIANA
By Chloë De Groot 2 EN VS 3
Ever since I was a little child, my mother told me stories about Princess Diana. Through this essay, I
wanted to know more about the person who seemingly left a large footprint in, not only my mother s
heart, but in the people s heart. She had always been amazed and inspired by Diana s flawless looks,
her never ending smile, her attitude of fighting for the greater good and never giving up. What
wonders me though, is what made her that special. There were and still are a lot of extraordinary
princesses in this world. Still Princess Diana remains to be the most famous Princess of all time. What

Unfortunately, the reality is a lot less cheerful. She had bulimia and a depression. She never felt good
enough for the public and she was constantly confronted with the fact that her marriage fell apart due
to the adultery of Charles with Camilla Parker Bowles. As if that wasn t enough, the divorce got
sensationalised by the world media. Eventually the paparazzi also led to her death. She died too young
in a car crash when they were trying to escape from the photographers. The saddest thing of all, was
that she just found peace with herself and her life with the love of her life: Dodi Fayed. I think it s
very touching to see how much people were moved by her death. A lot of people identified with
Diana, so her sudden death came as a big shock for everyone. Ms. Willoughby could best captivate
why so many people were in grief: The public had watched the marriage and celebrated, witnessed the
birth of her two sons and congratulated, stood in awe as she dazzled the people with her humour, cried
with sympathy at her ability to comfort the terminally ill. This is what made her special and this is
what people remember her for. . I think it s a shame that such an inspiring and bright young lady who
brought people together in her own way, had to pass away for another stupid, sassy story in a

Jewelry Has A Strong Case Against Jennifer Lawson
Memo Introduction
In paper, Greene s Jewelry has a strong case against Jennifer Lawson because Jennifer breached the
confidentiality agreements that she signed with Greene s Jewelry. In the agreement, it specifically
indicated that Jennifer could never disclose any information regarding Ever Gold creating process,
which is patented and owned by Greene s Jewelry. Jennifer not only stole a draft letter that contains
the details of creating Ever Gold but also took it to Greene s competitor Howell Jewelry World in
order to obtain a job offer from the company. The employment contract that Jennifer signed with
Howell is a certain evidence of her unjust enrichment. Regarding Jennifer Lawson s claim that she
encountered wrongful termination at Greene s, it is simply a misinterpretation of Greene s legitimate
reduction in force. The company no longer had a need for any junior executive secretaries. The
downsizing was unfortunately but legal.
Facts and Laws
Jennifer alleges that she was terminated because of her pregnancy. She neglects the fact that Greene s
discharged her because her position, junior executive secretary, is redundant to the company. It is
transparently that Jennifer is a member of protected class and was dismissed. Yet Greene s did not
violate The Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) under Title VII. According to Title VII 42 U.S.C. §
2000e 2(a), it is an unlawful employment practice if an employer discharges any individual because of
such individual s race,

Dbq Essay On The 18th Amendment
The 18th Amendment dealt with prohibiting the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcohol. This
amendment was ratified by the U.S. government and was probably one of the most futile proposals
they could have ever came up with. The 18th amendment should have never been approved because it
just gave Americans an alternative to break the law. Also, the government itself lost a great deal .
Americans would ,in a sense, never give up alcholol, leaving the American government helpless with
no other decision then to repeal the ban. To begin, the 18th amendment should have never been
ratified because it gave Americans that spark of rebellion to break the law. Americans did not want to
listen to the 18th amendment and deliberatley set up discreet locations just for them to drink alcohol.
Document 2 states Many people in the U.S. opposed this amendment and violated the law by going to
places called speakeasies to drink Document 2 also states Unfortunatley, many speakeasies make
payments to police for protection. This has led to a widespread corruption in our city government.

The Tensions Of The Cold War And The Second World War
The two World Wars had brought detrimental effects to countries involved in the wars. Not only was
landmarks and buildings destroyed, but the World Wars also brought fear and insecurity within the
world. Tensions of the Cold War could be linked to before the World War I, where the ideology of
supreme power and maintaining control over another has been present for a long time. World War I
leads to the World War II, as allies rise to power to unstable Germany and his political party. The
Second World War was even more devastating and unstable, instilling greater fear and insecurity
within countries, especially on those with the lesser power. Many thought that with the defeat of
Germany, peace and unity would eventually keep up. However, insecurity has built up over time,
causing even allies to have insecurity with one another, which eventually lead to the Cold War. The
United States and the USSR were allies during the Second World War, but had been wary of one
another. This resulted in the Cold War, whereby each worshipped their nuclear weapons, increasing
their defense, in order to maintain the balance of power. The nuclear arms race during the Cold War
truly reflected the value of the security dilemma, and the distortion of the balance of power, which
could trigger war.
The strategy of block and balance in terms of alliance formation and alliance denial could be drawn as
a method of prevention. Major powers could form alliance in order to wage war with the rising power,

Volleyball Court Attributes
One of the most troublesome feelings one can experience in life is being unsatisfied with yourself. We
are susceptible to notice negative features in other people, but fail to look in the mirror and to
critically evaluate our behavior or self attributes. When we do, we notice many traits within ourselves
we would not like to be there. I try to remain open minded towards the majority of my personality
features. Though, concurrently with my positive qualities, I can be very unconfident on the volleyball
court. I learned to cope with this and other drawbacks; but I would enjoy getting rid of this quality. It
is human nature to feel unconfident from time to time. Picture the situation where you re the youngest
setter on the court starting and you have to be like the quarterback of the Team. This is one chance in a
million, and you know this opportunity could either make you or break you in your volleyball career.
There is a lot of attributes you need as a setter from decision making to communication skills but of all
these confidence is very important in being a setter. You can t go in their feeling unsure, instead you
need to positively step on that court and communicate with each hitter to let them know what they re
hitting and when the ball is put into play make a split second decision on who you re going to set
based on the pass you get, the other team s blockers, defense and abilities. Not only do you worry
about yourself on the court but also everyone else, you make sure each person is where they re
supposed to be and know what they re supposed to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Democratization Of Latin America And Eastern Europe
1. Despite the democratization movements in Latin America and Eastern Europe in 1980s and 90s,
Middle Eastern authoritarian regimes proved to be resilient. Despite the recent Arab Spring protests,
most Middle Eastern nations live under authoritarian regimes. How do these authoritarian regimes
survive for so long? What are the factors that contribute to their longevity?
Most Eastern European countries that were part of the Eastern bloc, after the fall of the Berlin Wall
began the transition process started by the changes in social system and started to connect into the
European Union. Although some of these states essentially have not changed, however, public
discourse is certainly different, the market has been liberalized, and states such as Romania and
Bulgaria are even members of the European Union.
In the Middle East the situation is totally different. Rulers of the dynasties, kings, in this part of the
world ruled for decades and there are no indications that the situation might change. Some of them not
even the Arab spring (which was simulated process of social change) has managed to waver. This
primarily refers to the rulers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the Emirates.
The question is what are the factors that influence both durable and firm power? The first reason is
certainly an authoritative stance that rulers occupy which is almost the dictatorship and sometimes
even exceeds borders of the dictatorship. We only have to remember the massacre in Hama, Syria in
1982.

Argument For Inductive Reasoning
Inductive reasoning is.
Inductive reasoning is a probabilistic reasoning in which the main claim concerns the improbability of
the conclusion being false given the premises being true. Premises of an inductive argument do not
entail the conclusion.
In deciding whether or not an argument in inductive it is important to pay attention to the occurrence
of special indicators words, the actual strength of the inferential link between the premises and
conclusion, and the style of argumentations. However, in case of a conflict between the indicators and
form and the inferential links, indicators have the least priority in deciding the kind of underlying
reasoning, simply because, the language of many arguments is incomplete.

I haven t read many books about philosophy and never invested much time and effort in learning and
evaluating the subtle arguments out there. I m taking baby steps in practicing philosophy and anything
I write here is for the purpose of delivering this assignment and challenging myself to formulate some
ideas that can easily be wrong. With that in mind, this is what I think about Hume s Problem of
Induction:
a) Healthy skepticism. This is the keyword in Hume s argument. What I take from his line of
reasoning is that we should always save a place in our mind for doubting our conclusions and being
open to other ideas. Knowing that our past experiences aren t a box in which we can contain the
universe and expect it to behave within our self appointed candidates of frameworks can lead to some
real nasty dogmatic beliefs.
b) Credibility vs. absolute truths. Theories gain credibility as the body of data grows and fits within
the theory, all attempts to falsify it fail, and they lead us to a better understanding of the surroundings
which in due time become a part of our knowledge about the word. Theories aren t our way of
claiming to know the absolute truth about a subject or unchanging declarations written in stone.
Induction and deduction, testing and predictions are tools we use to form the best possible model of

Taxation is known for causing headaches, and even more so when the regulations are altered and
implementation begins in the next year. An example of taxation leading to confusion and migraine
pain is the issuance of final regulations related to the capitalizing expenses related to tangible
property. The issuance is known as the short hand Repair Regs and is related to the capitalization of
costs for repair and maintenance of tangible property. Capitalizing the costs means that the tax benefit
of an expense is not 100% deducted out in the year of purchase but having the item begin amortizing

Code Sec 263 and Sec 162
Code Section 263 administers certain requirements of what is not to be expensed. On the other hand
Sec 162 presents the legal grounds to deduct of all ordinary and necessary expenses incurred in way of
carrying on the business operation. Necessary costs for Sec 162 does encompass values related to
maintenance and repairs, which is how Sec 263 and Sec 162 relate to one another (I.R.C. §1.162 4).
Capitalization requirements in Sec 263, requires amounts of production, acquisition, and improvement
of tangible property to not be expensed out but capitalized and amortized over a period of time (26
U.S.C. §263(a)1).
Code 263 possesses the concept that if the costs are related to a reasonable future sale then there are
grounds to capitalize even before production is finalized. What is interesting of 263 is that it triumphs
the de minimis rule, which will be examined later, because if there is the reasonable future purpose of
production it is then is capitalized (IRC §1.263(a) 2T(g)). The de minimis rule will then play out if the
property is not to be utilized in the production and de minimis is elected it would fall under Sec 162
and be expensed. Even if the property is used in the future the property cannot be reevaluated and
capitalized. Since the two code sections create an almost grey area

Relationship Between A Parent And A Child
Introduction When imagining the relationship between a parent and a child, one usually envisions a
caring mother or father cradling an infant in their arms, playing games with a toddler, or even teaching
a school age child to read. These caring images are one of positivity and optimism. Indeed, familial
relationships of this nature are rather typical for the typical supportive family, but what can happen
when the family is not of typical form? When the picture takes on a dark undertone, say a tone of
physical or emotional abuse or neglect, how might the relationships between a caregiver and child be
affected? This relationship is described as attachment, which is the relational pattern a child begins to
develop in infancy with at least one primary caregiver (Lehman, Jegtvig 2004). Within the first
example, the child develops a relatively normal, healthy attachment; however, within the second
scenario where abuse or neglect is present, children may form a type of attachment know as Reactive
Attachment Disorder, or RAD (Lehman, Jegtvig 2004). This disorder has profound implications for
the child s overall development. Defining Reactive Attachment Disorder Reactive Attachment
Disorder (RAD) is a relational pattern characteristic of children who have learned not to trust, rely on,
help, or love another human being (Lehman, Jegtvig 2004). Children who have developed this
attachment do not reach out to one specific caregiver for support, and do not show preference for

John The Savage Alienation

A Savage s New World In the totalitarian country of London, the people are not subjected to war, hate,
poverty, disease and suffering. There is an abundance of wealth, leisure and pleasures, but with utopia
comes elimination of freedom and orthodox values. The people in the society are created in factories,
then put into a strict 5 class hierarchy. To take the edge off of the harshness of reality, they take a
synthetic drug called Soma and drift into blissful ignorance. When a savage named John who becomes
isolated from his indian tribe in New Mexico comes to live in utopia London, he is forced to learn the
strange, untraditional customs of the civilization. In the end, he has to choose between either
assimilation or death. In the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, John the Savage is both
alienated from his community and emotionally enriched after being isolated from his home tribe. John
the Savage s view of civilization was greatly enhanced after he left the sheltered community of his
tribe. When he first arrives in utopia London, he is amazed by the aesthetic of the city and the people
who live there; here he recognizes how different the paradisal city is from the barbarous environment
of his tribe. John exclaims, how many godly creatures are there here! How beautiful mankind is!

Justice
Every action or decision we make is either justifiable or unjustifiable.
Justice is usually decided by society or the quot;norm. quot; The quot;norm quot; changes from one
society to another. However, there are always laws that can be broken, consequences that must follow,
and punishment that must be imparted. Justice can be seen in two different ways, social and criminal.
Justice is in the eye of the beholder because we all have different attitudes about right and wrong.
Criminal justice is a term that refers to the area of social laws which a group of people deem valuable
in order for the day to day mechanics of society to function. When these laws are broken, the ... Show

No matter what verdict would have been handed down, someone, somewhere would have been
unsatisfied. If Shively were sentenced to be executed, then his family and friends would have had to
fight for justice until the day he died. As the verdict of quot;not guilty quot; arrived,
Paterson s family, many police officers, and friends of the family cried for justice. Yet, justice had
been served.
Equal and satisfying justice has always been a problem. On May 30, 1939 a group of Texas Rangers
decided to ambush and murder two people they wanted to destroy. They shot seventy five bullets into
a man named Clyde and fifty four deadly bullets into a young lady named Bonnie. Of course, this is
the famous story of the outlaw couple, Bonnie and Clyde. This action branched across the guaranteed
right to due process. Another incident of the criminal justice s injustices occurred when the ATF
decided to arrest David Koresh and his followers. We know how this story ends. The ATF was the
reason that many people died and was probably the cause of the Oklahoma City bombing.
A more recent incident is one that was taped by a helicopter. A group of illegal Mexican immigrants

the border patrol in
California. After the border patrol caught them they beat them up. This group of Mexicans were beat

Senior Year Of High School
Senior year of high school, while filled with excitement and anticipation, can be a stressful time for
those applying to college. Deciding on a college is not like buying a new pair of shoes; shoes can be
bought, taken home, and, if necessary, returned for something else. In this respect, colleges are not so
forgiving. While the option to transfer exists in theory, the expense of transferring and the complicated
logistics of transferring from one university to another leave students with limited options. High
school seniors applying to colleges must think carefully about where they will be for the next four
years. There are countless factors that each must consider in evaluating a prospective college, but each
school s academics and social life are two important factors that must be considered paramount. The
University of Virginia (UVA) is one institution that offers top tier academics and a vibrant social
scene.
Academics are no doubt a major consideration when weighing universities; UVA is nationally
recognized for its academics, and it has long been competitive as the premier university in public
higher education. Any accredited university can award a degree, with varying levels of prestige to be
sure, but perhaps most pertinent in evaluating a college is the quality of the education it has to offer.
UVA has long been committed to investing in the quality of its academics. Professors at major
universities are notorious for caring almost exclusively about their research and academic prestige, but
at UVA, while undoubtedly committed to publishing first rate research, professors are viewed as
mentors. The value of this academic relationship cannot be overstated; PhDs guarantee intellectual
brilliance, but they do not always translate into good professors. Professors at UVA regularly undergo
formal instruction on pedagogy, meaning they receive formal training to ensure that each professor is
teaching for the sake of learning and not just lecturing for the sake of fulfilling a job requirement. Not
to be overlooked are the various study abroad opportunities that UVA has to offer. In today s global
economy, study abroad opportunities offer unbeatable, invaluable experience. The UVA Class of 2017

The Muslim-Christian Response To The Crusades
Rich in delightful episodes and dramatic events, spread over two centuries and three continents, the
Crusades were one of the fascinating events of Muslim Christian encounters. The Crusades constitute
a series of almost two century long military campaigns (1095 1291) conducted by the Christians of
Western Europe against the Muslims in the land of Palestine and the eastern Mediterranean coastal
strip. The Christian aim was to wrest the Holy Land, Jerusalem, from the Muslims. Annoyed, angered,
frightened, and disgusted by the presence of uninvited aliens in the midst of their cultures, the Muslim
response to the Crusades was initially one of intermittent, unorganised, and disrupted by a
preoccupation with internal problems. Later Muslims, however, ... Show more content on

The concept is widespread and deep rooted both in the modern Islamic political ideologies and the
Christian Europe. Since the historic significance of the Crusades during the first half of the second
millennium CE cannot be denied by either the Muslims or Christians. However, it may be argued that
the Muslim interest in the Crusades has been more a matter of curiosity than a sense of the relevance
of these events in modern times. For the Christians of Western Europe, it seems that these events are
still pertinent to their lives and thought, because the concept behind them evokes a feeling of service
to God and righteousness. In the twentieth century, the Arab world rediscovered the Crusades, viewing
them as symbols for current political problems. Some saw the medieval Crusading states as
protocolonists , the precursors of Napoleon in Egypt, the British Mandate for Palestine, the state of
Israel, and the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. The Crusades marked the initial phase of Western
imperialism in the region (isti mar mubakkar or premature imperialism). For other Muslims, the

Essay On Jewish Names
Names are defined as a word or phrase that constitutes the distinctive designation of a person or
thing.Names are important in all aspects of life, and one of the major usages of names are for
identifaction purposes. Accrording to the book A person s name is thought to define and control his or
her soul and destiny (Ber. 7b). Therefore, the selection of an appropriate name is a critical decision. In
this paper we will be looking at the cultural aspect in relation to Jewish names.
In the Jewsish culture,it was with careful examination they gave names, since they believed it would
constitute to where or not the person is good or bad. They actually beliveied that the names which
which was chooosen had the power to determine later personality. Names were changed based ones
peronal status. For example if someone was adopted or they were married then on this basis the name
would change.
Until emancipation of the jews, they had no surnames. They used what is called patronymics, such as
David ben (son of) Joseph or Miriam bat (daughter of) Aaron. Names in that form are still used in
synagogue and in Jewish legal documents such as the ketubah. A person complete name would include
their first and middle name, then the patronymics son of daughter of Its said that if the father was a ...

Elements Of Horror Stories
Hattie Sparks
Sharon A. Russell explains to readers how to decipher horror stories by saying, Some students think
that the best way to examine it is to deal with the way horror fiction is organized or structured.
Examining the organization of a horror story shows that it shared certain traits with other types of
fiction. . She says this in her article What is a Horror Story . Horror fiction needs to be in a certain
order, structured, and have specific horror traits. Some essential traits to horror she later talks about,
are supernatural elements, eerie settings, and suspense. When these elements interact horror is created.
The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs is a horror story because, of the supernatural paw, the setting, and
suspense of the story. One important element of horror is a supernatural trait, which The Monkey s
Paw does indeed have. The main supernatural trait would be the paw itself. The history of the paw is
stated, by Sergeant Major Morris, to have had a spell placed on it by a fakir. Sergeant Morris, also told
the readers how all the previous six wishes were answered. Multiple wishes answered using the same
process, could not be coincidence. Another reason that this story fits into the supernatural trait is how
Mr. White describes his experience using the paw. He states, it twisted in my hand like a snake (pg
110). Only something supernatural would do this. Lastly, it is not simply a coincidence that when Mr.
White wishes for 200 pounds, that it

17th Century Literature Throughout Europe
14th Century Literature in Europe The 14th century consisted of many different events, which then
lead to a rise in literary movements and influential writers. The writers and poets of medieval Europe
created their own tropes and themes throughout the entire history of the century. 14th century
literature is greatly impacted by many factors: historical, religious, aesthetic. The 14th century also
contained a mass of literary movements, often times coexisting with the aforementioned factors.
Historical Events and Context Peasants Revolt The Peasants Revolt was an aftermath of the Black
Death, which also greatly influenced literature and arts throughout its course. The Peasants Revolt
year 1381 significantly altered literature during the course of the 14th century. The Peasants Revolt
was unique in its significance because what is considered modern day England was the only medieval
society to have a peasants revolt (Swain). Naturally, such a huge uprising brings influence with it.
Besides the Bubonic Plague, another reason for the Peasants Revolt occurred due an expanding middle
class, which then in turn took land away from Nobles. This land crisis caused the Nobility to have an
upset, and they enacted a law to stop the Peasant Class from having social mobility. Like most societal
uprising, money was a huge factor. This new law included a poll tax, which heavily taxed the lower
class. Unfortunately, the Nobles made an error and based the tax on the population before

Renewable Energy Policies Operating At The Level Of The...
The world today, as we know it, acknowledges the impact of the carbon emission on the surrounding
environment with devastating effects such as global warming, rise of the ocean levels and destruction
of animal and vegetal life. Therefore, it started shifting towards more green sources of energy such as
renewable energy, ones that are more sustainable and more friendly to the environment. European
Union, one of the most advanced democratic models of our time, is one of the key players at the
global level which understands the need for this change in perspective and constantly advocates for
more elaborate policies and joined plans of action. The aim of this essay is to analyse the three main

The feed in tariffs could be explained simply by taking the cost of a particular system, dividing that
figure by the number of kilowatt/hours that the system can reasonably be expected to generate over its
service life (generally 20 years), and the result is the cost of that system per kilowatt hour. Now, tack
on whatever return on investment (ROI) is desired, and a feed in tariff had been obtained. This
approach allows a distinction to be made not only between different renewables technologies (solar,
wind, etc), but also between different system sizes. As an example a big wind farm will undoubtedly
produce more energy than the power collected from a certain amount of solar rooftops. With offering
different feed in tariffs for various system sizes, one can ensure the economic viability of the various
applications, thereby preventing windfall profits for large projects.
1.2. Secondly, in the coming decades, the trend of liberalising energy markets will have to be
combined with ambitious environmental goals within the European Union (EU). Currently prevailing
incentive schemes (such as trade in tariffs) for renewable energy might not be in line with
liberalisation of international energy markets. A good example might be the disadvantage that an
operator which is situated near a greater renewable energy potential area, having to accept all the

The Effect Of Sodium Chloride On The Germination Rate Of...
Introduction
The purpose of this experiment is to observe the effects of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) on the
germination rate of Wisconsin Fast Plants.
Wisconsin Fast Plants (WFPs), or Brassica rapa, are plants in the Cruciferous family, developed
through selective breeding from a strain of Himalayan weeds (Williams). WFPs have a life cycle of
around forty days. This short life cycle makes WFPs valuable for laboratory study. In addition, WFPs
are simple to grow, as they only need water and a light source to survive (Williams). Their simple
needs, allowing ease in controlling variables, make WFPs ideal for use in experiments.
Germination is the stage of plant growth through which a seed becomes a seedling plant. First, the
seed begins to absorb water and the radicle root emerges from the seed coat and into the water. Then,
the primary roots grow, the cotyledons move above ground, the stem begins to grow, and leaves
develop. The process is complete when the first leaves open and the cotyledons fall off (The Learning
Garden 2001).
NaCl has been shown to have a negative effect on plant growth (Lee and Van Iersal 2016) and
germination (Houle et al. 2001). The severity of these effects depends on the individual species ability
to grow in saline soil (Atkins et al. 2009). WFPs are part of a group of plants called glycophytes,
meaning that they have a limited ability to tolerate NaCl (Atkins et al. 2009). A study specific to WFP
germination found a decrease in germination in WFPs

the brain are purely inseparable since it allows us to perform essential tasks such as generating,

Broca s aphasia, a language disorder characterized by the inability to produce written and spoken

When the particular information processes in the brain fails and causes Broca s aphasia, a chain
reaction occurs consequently leading to various speech disorders. As for the individual s
comprehension, it has been long believed to remain unaffected although studies are beginning to prove
otherwise. DAMAGE IN THE BRAIN As Thompson states, A sufferer of Broca s aphasia may
understand completely the sentences of others. However, he may not be able to speak at all, or may
speak in sentences that are hard to understand (Thompson, 2013). Toivonen, a professor at Carleton
University, discussed the significance of information flow in the brain using the example of reading
out loud. This example illustrates the phenomenon that when an area of the information pathway is
damaged, correspondingly, the message relay can become interrupted. First and for most, the process
of articulating begins with the Wernicke s area of the brain activating when an individual accesses and
interprets the lexicon, their mental dictionary. From there, the arcuate fascicles, a bundle of nerve
fibres, transmits information sent from the Wernicke s area to the Broca s area. The Broca s area then
interprets this information and transmits articulatory information to the motor cortex. Finally, the
motor cortex directs movement of the muscles to produce and pronounce speech. (Toivonen,

Diesel Burned Fuel
These engines are more powerful than regular engines and produce more power. Diesels are slow to
rev and have much lower max rpms that a gas engine. Cause of this diesels like turbos so the air can
be taken in quicker and the motor can burn the fuel better (Truck Trend). Diesels used compressed air
which is heated then fuel is shot in and combusts (Truck Trend).Because diesels run of combustion the
motor runs cooler. This means that the radiator and cooling fan can be down sized (Truck Trend). It
didn t take long for diesel engines to be used in trains, power stations, factories, and ships due to them
being more efficient and reliable. The higher the rpms can go the more power it can make. For this
reason diesels use turbos to burn the fuel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Diesel engines are able to burn much dirtier fuel and deliver more fuel energy diesel engines are the
engine of choice for most industrial jobs(Blackwell). Diesels soot is un burnt fuel. The reason for the
un burnt fuel is that the motor didn t have enough oxygen to mix with the fuel (Truck Trend). High
output diesels use more fuel than air which produces soot. As more fuel is injected into the motor
more soot is formed. The air/fuel ratio in diesel must be lean for excessive amounts of black smoke
not to be formed (Truck Trend). Soot is formed when all the fuel in the cylinder is not burned (Truck
Trend). Diesels that put out no smoke use less fuel than air which causes the mpg to be better (Truck
Trend). Diesels get better fuel economy than gas engines because they use a leaner air/fuel ratio
meaning more air is taken in than fuel (Truck Trend). Diesel automobiles were popular in the 1970s
and 1980s for their fuel efficiency. They are become more popular again for the same
reason(Blackwell). The reason diesels get better mpg than gas is because the runoff combustion

Ifrs And International Accounting Standards Board
In mainly everything, sports, class rooms, or work places you have a set of rules to go by. In the
accounting world, you must also follow a set of rules and standards. The Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles (GAAP) or the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Most
countries around the world use IFRS while the United States uses GAAP. International Financial
Reporting Standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles do things differently. Each
country s government sets which principles the accountants will use. There are also organizations that
have been formed to help with all the confusion between countries. The organizations are called
Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).
FASB is the organization that has been designed by the US government to establish GAAP in the
United States. IASB is the international organization developing and promoting accounting standards
to be used throughout the world. GAAP and IFRS are both accounting principles but also have
different regulations. The main difference is historical values for assets and liabilities and current or
market values. GAAP looks at the historical value while IFRS looks at current or market values. US
accountants are conservative and always look at the historical value. Accountants using IFRS would
look at the value of the land or house if it increased, even if it is not sold, while GAAP would not look
at the increasing value until it

security of Australia. But, yet it used to flow on a seasonal basis through and would have been used
for leisure activities, such as swimming. If you looked at the River Torrens now you could never tell
that s what it was used for, and instead, you can see the unsightly weir restricting water flow and the

Aeration pumps have successfully been used in many rivers and dams to lower algal blooms, they
work by reducing nutrient load in the water column and mixing algae deeper into the water so that
they are deprived of light, other methods such as algaecides are also used as these are toxic to the
algae or cyanobacteria, but using algaecides can come with great risks and may cause more problems.
As a part of a redevelopment plan, the city of Adelaide has been looking at potential ways to remove
the algae and rubbish in the river, the plan is to lower the weir so that there is a flow of water. This
means that nutrients will be moving through and not concentrated in a singular spot, reducing the
likeliness of algal blooms. At the moment the most that are being done on carp is a ban on releasing
them back in the waterway, however, many people are working on an alternative. One of these
alternatives is the release of a carp herpesvirus this acts as a biological agent introduced to the
waterway, wiping out large majorities of carp in one swift go. However, there are issues with this once
in the waterway it cannot be removed and carp may develop resistance and there would have to be a

Forensic Evidence From A Crime Scene
Procedures used to examine and recover forensic evidence from a crime scene.
There are many different procedures in Forensic Science which are used to gather evidence from
crime scenes, all of which vary due to no crime scene being identical. Examining the evidence from a
crime scene is essential and a very important factor of Forensic Science. The evidence gathered from a
crime scene will provide facts and piece together information regarding the crime committed, this
information is then used to form a case and debate what happened at the crime scene. Once all the
information is gathered and the facts are established, the case is then presented to a court of justice to
prove or disprove any facts and evidence.
Usually there are many steps when examining and recovering forensic evidence for a crime scene and
these are as follow.
Planning to examine a crime scene
When planning to examine a crime scene all aspects should be taken into account before entering. The
first thing that should happen is cordoning off the crime scene, this is predominately performed by the
police and is done so to ensure the crime scene is not contaminated by public access. Once the scene is
secure access is restricted to the police and forensic team. When planning to examine a crime scene
key information should be available which will help identify the location, area and what type of crime
has been committed. This information will enable the forensic team to competently perform a rigorous
examination

The Decline of Virtue Ethics in the Modern Society and Its Different Forms
The Modern Society
The modern society may be moving forward in terms of scientific and technological advancements yet
as years go by, the development of ethics and morality tends to move backward. Due to our utmost
fascination to material advancements, we tend to forget what truly matters. According to Smith
(2014), the modern society rewards material progress while neglecting moral progress. As such,
people of the modern age disregard moral and intellectual virtues as if they are a nuisance to their
everyday lives. Furthermore, the society prioritizes other affiliations and pursues their own endeavors
without considering the possible consequences that might arise due to their unethical or immoral
practices. In addition, the modern society is heavily influenced by copious ... Show more content on

educational system is explicitly depicted through the immoral practices of the modern youth that they
perceive as something worth bragging about or something that they consider as an achievement. The
modern society also disregards ethics for the reason that they think it is something that is old or

Theme Of Vengeance In The Oresteia
Orestes has to kill her (Zeitlin, 476). The view of vengeance in Aeschylus s The Oresteia also depends
on the situation the person enacting the vengeance is in beforehand.
Another component that changes the view of vengeance is what situation the character is in; meaning
how the murderer is related to the victim and the position they are in at the time or before.
Clytemnestra is in a situation where her husband kills their daughter and she can either retaliate or live
with the fact that Iphigenia is dead. She chooses to kill her husband and she does not have any support
other than that of Aegisthus. Orestes is basically forced into killing his mother and Aegisthus by
Apollo and people around him like his sister Electra and the Chorus as well as his friend Pylades. In
the beginning of Liberation Bearers, Orestes comes back and encounters his sister Electra at their
father s grave. During their reacquaintance, Orestes tells Electra that he has been ordered to kill
Clytemnestra and Aegisthus by Apollo, ...if I failed to kill my father s killers.......to kill the two of
them as they killed him, in the same way. He said that otherwise I d pay the debt with my own life,
and it would be a life of torment that would never end (Aeschylus, Liberation Bearers lines 307 313).
He has this threat hanging over his head and any time he starts to waver, his friend Pylades, his sister,
and the chorus encouraged him. the third and last storm battering their house. In the end, Orestes does
in fact come third and as a saviour. Before entering the palace he rehearses the piece of deceit by
which he wraps his mother and Aegisthus in their own toils. As he puts it before his sister and the
confederate chorus of Trojan captives, he will not give Aegisthus time to ask from where he has come
, this shows that he has a lot of support behind him in this endeavor in addition to the support of
Apollo (Clay, 4). After he kills his mother and her lover, he has to wash his hands of the blood and, to
be cured, he must journey to the oracle of Delphi (Burke, 382). Orestes kills his mother, subsequently
he begins to see the furies that are coming after him (Burke, 382).
The Furies that are now pursuing him punish blood guilt (Burke, 382)

A Business Pl Summertime Sno Cones Essay
Following is an analysis of a hypothetical business I would find pleasure enacting. When choosing to
run a business, both strategy and passion need to be present. One of my future business plans is
Summertime Sno Cones. A privately owned and operated, seasonal business that produces snow cones
at a reasonable price, in a family friendly environment. I believe an energetic and inviting snow cone
stand could bring happiness to people in my community, and could also be a lucrative business
venture.
My family currently has a snow cone business in a prime location in Hugo, Oklahoma. Upon their
retirement, they plan to pass it down to me. The building will need many, future renovations, in order
to enact my plan and make the environment more accommodating and friendly for a larger, more
diverse audience. A couple of essential changes that would need to be implemented before I opened,
would be a small expansion of the building to include more storage space, as well as renovation and
cleaning of the lot on which the business located. By graduation, I hope to have the savings needed to
buy the necessary supplies to make the aforementioned renovations. Snow cones have played an
important role in my raising and I have bonded and grown with my family over this sweet cold treat.
Currently, at the beginning of fall, my family s snow cone stand is selling an average of 100 snow
cones per day. My total fixed costs for a month of operation amount to $410. These costs consist of

Mirrormask Movie Analysis
Dave McKean is the mastermind of MirrorMask, MirrorMask is a fantasy/drama film that released on
September 30th, 2005. This movie was very different from a normal fairy tale, It didn t have an evil
stepmother, an absentee father and not really a prince charming at the end of the film. This story is
about a girl named Helena, she worked in a circus with her Mom and Dad and they barely got by
financially. Helena didn t want to work in the circus anymore; she wanted to be normal like everybody
else. Helena is also an incredible artist, her room was filled with drawing which symbolize her
emotional expression. When she falls asleep one day, she woke up in a magical land that was filled
with her drawings. After finding out they need to get the mirrormask to save the kingdom, she
embarks on an adventure to save the queen. Along the way, she meets a guy, Valentine that
accompanies alongside with her. Is it true love? This movie is about growing up and realizing that
even if you don t have much, you should still be grateful for what you have. Helena was very
ungrateful, she had two parents that were always there for her, they didn t have a lot of money, but
they had each other and Helena didn t seem to understand that. Helena even got into a fight with her
mother and wish death upon on herself, how mean it that? Throughout the film in a way she matured
and learned a lesson, in many tales you learn lessons at the end. In Snow White, Snow White had to
learn to stop opening the

The Concept Of Sin In Dante Alighieri s Inferno
Dante Alighieri s Inferno is the first of three books in The Divine Comedy. A comedy in Dante s time
didn t mean what it means today: a comedy was a piece of literature that moved from dark to light or
from damnation to salvation in the eyes of God. In The Inferno, Dante delves into darkness and
damnation, and his view of the nature of Hell. Dante was a devout Catholic, so most of his inspiration
for The Inferno came from the Bible. In Dante s version of Hell, there are nine circles that reach to the
center of the Earth: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Avarice and Prodigality, Wrath and Sullenness, Heresy,
Violence, Fraud, and Treachery. Those who commit the least severe sins are put near the top, as in
Limbo, and the worst sins at the bottom come with the worst punishments. Dante, the character in the
book, is escorted by the poet Virgil to literally explore Dante s descent into sin. To better understand
the book s concept of sin, the reader should compare the least sinful part of Hell, Limbo, to the most
sinful part of Hell, the ninth circle where Satan is kept.
The poem begins with Dante waking up in a forest. Dante tries to climb the mountain and sees three
beasts: a leopard, a lion, and a wolf. Later, Dante meets Virgil, a Roman poet Dante is fond of, to help
him climb the mountain. Virgil says they have to go through Hell first before reaching Heaven, where
Beatrice, a woman Dante loved in real life, will be waiting for him. Eventually, Dante and Virgil get to

Presidential Candidates Process Essay
The process of selecting presidential candidates has always been a long one that starts with a hot
summer in Iowa and New Hampshire where the candidates of the parties appeal to early primary
voters and delegates. It is a democratic process that is not seated, but is instead open to different
members of the party and different special interest groups with their own agendas and goals. The final
part of this grueling process vote both candidates and voters is for the party to finally get enough
delegates for nomination at the summer convection a few months before the November election. What
makes this year s campaign even more absurd is Donald Trump s entry into the race. Trump is an
embarrassment to the political system wand a mockery of American politics, open to strong ridicule at
home and to the international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is inhumane to take children out of schools and raid the business of families when all they have ever
known is America a country of immigrants since the days when it was colonized, and later broke away
to form a new nation. More importantly, why have Republicans become so obsessed with securing the
border? There are so many more important issues then securing the border, such as the national debt
and tax reform. In a truly free society, a pure libertarian society, there would be open borders so
individuals can freely associate with one another. The closing of borders violates the fundamental
human right to movement and the fundamental human right to trade through mutual consent. If
individuals are crossing the border internationally and are not harming individuals private property,
there should be no restrictions. Closed borders restricts the right of free trade because it prevents
individuals from coming into this country who are willing to work, and it prevents immigrants from
coming here who can create new and lager business opportunities. Many of them already

The Government As An Intermediate Agency
The government is an intermediate agency which has the main, though by no means the exclusive,
responsibility for society s adherence to the principles which favour increased autonomy and respect
for people s choices.
When one thinks about the work of governments throughout history, they look like extremely
obnoxious, or at least dangerous, artefacts, for which the need, and, consequently, the conditions and
limits, require moral justification. The mere fact that the government prescribes something to us does
not morally justify our doing it (though it may prudentially justify it, and therefore, in some cases it
may morally excuse it). The decision to obey a government must be an autonomous one one that, like
any decision which can affect other people, we should justify on the basis of a freely accepted moral
principle. But if this is so, to what extent are we really obeying the government and not simply
governing ourselves? And if the moral person always governs himself, what, for him, is the moral
relevance of having a government (besides solving co ordination problems or altering the factual
setting)?
The era of wars and terrorism was followed by segregation, racial sub ordination, and complacence.
One report written by senior civil servants in 1934 for the Department of Health actually suggested
that the eugenics policies of the Nazi Germany should be adopted in the UK. In 1927 Westminster
passed the Mental Deficiency Act giving the authorities wide powers to detain

Heartburn Remedies
Natural heartburn remedies are deemed as the best methods of treating heartburn and acid reflux for
good. Heartburn is that burning sensation one feels spreading across the chest coming up from the pits
of the stomach and often reaching the throat and leaving a sour, acidic taste. Heartburn occurs
normally after partaking of a huge meal and bending or lying down. These actions result in the acids
in the stomach getting pushed into the esophagus, thus the acidic taste. The burning sensation is the
result of the esophageal walls reacting to the acid.
Heartburn is experienced by everyone at a certain time, so it is a rather natural occurrence and not
necessarily a serious condition. Some people however are frequent heartburn sufferers and they ...

Too much reliance on these remedies also tends to cause side effects like diarrhea and constipation.
This is the reason why natural heartburn remedies are best preferred and recommended as long term
heartburn cures. Treating heartburn naturally minimizes the risk of unwanted side effects which can
potentially worsen the condition.
The Advantages ofNatural Heartburn Remedies
The foremost advantage of these remedies is of course the reduced risk of side effects. Since these
remedies make use of natural methods to cure the condition i.e. eating healthy, drinking the right
amount of fluids, working out properly, avoiding foods that cause heartburn and eating food types that
help with proper digestion, etc., these treatment methods are safe to follow and use in the long term.
Another advantage to opting for natural heartburn remedies is improved overall well being. Experts
say that obesity contributes to the frequent occurrence of heartburn. Aside from this, being overweight
also makes a person more prone to other diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure. Natural
methods of treating heartburn and acid reflux can help you achieve a healthy body weight and reduce
the risk of acquiring other

Comparison Of Home Depot And Lowes
Rivals: In major markets, Home Depot and Lowes are bitter rivals, mainly in the DIY sector. Lowes
and Home Depot are similar with what they offer and both have large warehouse stores. The other
smaller competitors like True Value, Ace Hardware, and Hughes Supply are not even close when it
comes to what Lowes or Home Depot are accomplishing. The biggest threat that faces Lowes now is
that Home Depot has been training with a Chinese retailer and bought the store. Now Home Depot has
a foothold in a growing Chinese market.
New Entrants: Any company that tries to move into the home improvement will have difficulty in
competing with Lowes or Home Depot. This is because they have created what is known as an
oligopoly in the United States. They account for the majority of the home improvement industries
overall market and thus creating an economy of scale because of their purchasing power. Any
company that attempts to enter this market will face a huge difference in economy of scale that they
may have difficulty overcoming. Any new entrant will be going up against giants and will be forced to
be a specialty store to gain any traction. Other barriers may include customer loyalty, startup capital,
regional recognition, and a large selection of products.
Suppliers:
Suppliers hold much of the power on the price they can sell their goods. Also, supply and demand also
have a part in determining market price. In the home improvement industry, Lowes and Home Depot

Review Of Battle Hymns Of The Tiger Mother By Dr....
One of the many arduous decisions parents face is how to raise their children. Over time, renowned
thinkers the world over have identified and coined different distinct styles of parenting and their
outcomes. Diana Baumrind is credited for her three styles of parenting: permissive, authoritarian, and
authoritative. Amy Chua first identified a particular style of parenting characterized by strict
regulations known as Tiger Parenting in her book Battle Hymns of the Tiger Mother . In contrast, free
range parenting, popularized by Dr. Benjamin Spock, takes a laissez faire approach. Good Morning
Today took a look at three distinct styles of parenting from the eyes of three successful children, to
help see things from a different perspective.
The first style of parenting mentioned is known as Tiger Parenting . First coined by Yale law professor
Amy Chua, the style has become a common household name. Strict regimen parents who prioritize
academic success and scholastic achievements are characteristic of this style. Furthermore, high
academic expectations and few freedoms typically await the child. Shanny Lee recounts her
experience on being raised under a tiger mom. She recalls having to practice math problems at age
five immediately after school. In her mother s eyes, nothing below a B grade would be acceptable and
she recalls feeling scared to come home with a lower grade. From this we can see that an extremely
high standard was set at a young age. Although this made her

Patrick Come To Me Analysis
This is one of the biggest themes in this novel. Because there are so many immigrants to Canada
during the time of the novel (1913 1940), North America is still without language, gestures and work
and bloodlines are the only currency. The novel explores different forms of language besides words.
Patrick comes to live in a Macedonian immigrant community in Toronto; even though he is a native
Canadian, he is isolated by language in his own country. But he learns to relate to those around him,
and at a moment when he is in the Teck Cinema watching a silent film and laughing out loud, he looks
up and catches the eye of someone else laughing, and they have the same realization that this mutual
laughter is conversation. And before this, when

Is It The Right Decision For Withhold Experimental Drug...
Dilemma: Was it the right decision to withhold experimental drug PLX4032 from Mr. Ryan for the
sake of following protocol and not tainting the trial s results, even though standard chemotherapy was
ineffective?
Assignment 4 (I need a title)
The story of Thomas McLaughlin and Brandon Ryan is of a path that suddenly diverged with a roll of
a dice. As cousins, not only did they share a life together by riding dirt bikes in the summer, spending
holidays together at their grandmother s house, and even having the same occupation in welding; they
also shared the same lethal skin cancer: Melanoma. Their option to enroll in a clinical trial testing the
efficacy of PLX4032, a developmental drug aimed at shrinking tumors for those diagnosed with ...

Not only could a complete experimental trial help avoid mistakes based on early promise in a study,
there was also the possibility that Mr. Ryan would not benefit from PLX4032, which in effect would
have delayed the study as the principals of a randomized controlled trial would have been
compromised.
By maintaining Mr. Ryan in the control group and withholding PLX4032, we realize that this decision
would only cause Mr. Ryan to suffer, and to die prematurely. Despite dacarbazine being one of the few
FDA approved chemotherapy drugs, and thereby labeled the standard form of care in the treatment of
metastatic melanoma for over 3 decades, we see that historically this intervention has proven to be
ineffective (Bhatia, Tykodi, Thompson, 2009). Through a pooled analysis, research indicates that this
drug has only a 15.3% objective response rate, with only 2% of patients living past 6 years (Bhatia et.
al., 2009). Likewise, the side effects implicated with toxic treatment are inevitable with dacarbazine,
so subjecting Mr. Ryan to this regimen of treatment causes needless suffering. Even doctors involved
in the study, including Dr. Keith Flaherty of Massachusetts General Hospital, have expressed their
hatred toward dacarbazine by stating that they would prefer to never give a dose again in their life, and
by lobbying for chemotherapy patients worsening in the trial to be positioned in a new trial headed by
PLX4032 s competitor

  • 2. Antoine Lavoisier The law of conservation of mass states that mass cannot created or destroyed but how did this law come to be. Well the ancient Greeks proposed that the total amount of matter in the universe is constant. But the law was first confirmed in about 1785 by Antoine Lavoisier when he weighed his reactants before the reaction and after the reaction and they weighed the same. We can still perform this experiment and see that Lavoisier s conclusion was true. You may be wondering who Lavoisier is well to start off he was a scientist. LAvoisier was a revolutionary when it came to chemistry, for one he named the elements carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Even with all of his great achievements and ideas he almost didn t get into the world of science. His father encouraged him to do the same as he become a lawyer and Lavoisier listened and got his degree but realized that he rather be doing science. Darshak Sanghavi, a doctor who communicated with Broom throughout the last couple of years of her life shares how access to experimental drugs first through a clinical trial and then through compassionate access gave her four more years with her children after standard treatment failed. Stories like Broom s raise the question of whether cancer patients should be able to use drugs that have not finished testing. There was a new drug in testing that held promise to control the cancer, but although the drug s clinical testing process had been quickened by the FDA because it showed promise as a breakthrough therapy , Auden was not given access to it and he died. His anguish over his lack of time is evident when he said, Why can t [Merck] supply me now [with the drug] rather than missing me by a couple of months? Similar appeals for immediacy are at the heart of the argument for access. Terminally ill patients argue that the disease in their body is developing faster than the drugs to fight the disease and that they do not have the time to wait until the drug is released or has passed another phase of the trial. Patient also feel that only allowing drugs to be used for clinical trials to encourage greater participation in testing is unfair. Being a part of a drug trial is not easy for patients. Chahal points out that tests are often conducted in major cities, requiring many patients to spend significant amounts of time away from their hometown (368). Leaving home requires extra expenses for travel, lodging, and food and extra emotional strain from being away from family and friends. Their research identified six types of the social media users and how they interact in the online environment. The Social Technographics ladder presented in Figure 3.3. of our reading depicts a ladder with different participation groups at each rung. These groups include: creators, conversationalists, critics, collectors, joiners, spectators, and inactives. It is worth noting that these groups are not exclusive, meaning a user could fit into multiple categories for different interactions (Tuten Solomon, 2013, p. 74). She never felt good enough for the public and she was constantly confronted with the fact that her marriage fell apart due to the adultery of Charles with Camilla Parker Bowles. As if that wasn t enough, the divorce got sensationalised by the world media. Eventually the paparazzi also led to her death. She died too young in a car crash when they were trying to escape from the photographers. The saddest thing of all, was that she just found peace with herself and her life with the love of her life: Dodi Fayed. I think it s very touching to see how much people were moved by her death. A lot of people identified with Diana, so her sudden death came as a big shock for everyone. Ms. Willoughby could best captivate why so many people were in grief: The public had watched the marriage and celebrated, witnessed the birth of her two sons and congratulated, stood in awe as she dazzled the people with her humour, cried with sympathy at her ability to comfort the terminally ill. Jewelry Has A Strong Case Against Jennifer Lawson Memo Introduction In paper, Greene s Jewelry has a strong case against Jennifer Lawson because Jennifer breached the confidentiality agreements that she signed with Greene s Jewelry. In the agreement, it specifically indicated that Jennifer could never disclose any information regarding Ever Gold creating process, which is patented and owned by Greene s Jewelry. Jennifer not only stole a draft letter that contains the details of creating Ever Gold but also took it to Greene s competitor Howell Jewelry World in order to obtain a job offer from the company. The employment contract that Jennifer signed with Howell is a certain evidence of her unjust enrichment. Regarding Jennifer Lawson s claim that she encountered wrongful termination at Greene s, it is simply a misinterpretation of Greene s legitimate reduction in force. The company no longer had a need for any junior executive secretaries. The downsizing was unfortunately but legal. Facts and Laws Jennifer alleges that she was terminated because of her pregnancy. She neglects the fact that Greene s discharged her because her position, junior executive secretary, is redundant to the company. It is transparently that Jennifer is a member of protected class and was dismissed. Yet Greene s did not violate The Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) under Title VII. This amendment was ratified by the U.S. government and was probably one of the most futile proposals they could have ever came up with. The 18th amendment should have never been approved because it just gave Americans an alternative to break the law. Also, the government itself lost a great deal . Americans would ,in a sense, never give up alcholol, leaving the American government helpless with no other decision then to repeal the ban. To begin, the 18th amendment should have never been ratified because it gave Americans that spark of rebellion to break the law. Americans did not want to listen to the 18th amendment and deliberatley set up discreet locations just for them to drink alcohol. Tensions of the Cold War could be linked to before the World War I, where the ideology of supreme power and maintaining control over another has been present for a long time. World War I leads to the World War II, as allies rise to power to unstable Germany and his political party. The Second World War was even more devastating and unstable, instilling greater fear and insecurity within countries, especially on those with the lesser power. Many thought that with the defeat of Germany, peace and unity would eventually keep up. However, insecurity has built up over time, causing even allies to have insecurity with one another, which eventually lead to the Cold War. The United States and the USSR were allies during the Second World War, but had been wary of one another. This resulted in the Cold War, whereby each worshipped their nuclear weapons, increasing their defense, in order to maintain the balance of power. The nuclear arms race during the Cold War truly reflected the value of the security dilemma, and the distortion of the balance of power, which could trigger war. We are susceptible to notice negative features in other people, but fail to look in the mirror and to critically evaluate our behavior or self attributes. When we do, we notice many traits within ourselves we would not like to be there. I try to remain open minded towards the majority of my personality features. Though, concurrently with my positive qualities, I can be very unconfident on the volleyball court. I learned to cope with this and other drawbacks; but I would enjoy getting rid of this quality. It is human nature to feel unconfident from time to time. Picture the situation where you re the youngest setter on the court starting and you have to be like the quarterback of the Team. This is one chance in a million, and you know this opportunity could either make you or break you in your volleyball career. There is a lot of attributes you need as a setter from decision making to communication skills but of all these confidence is very important in being a setter. You can t go in their feeling unsure, instead you need to positively step on that court and communicate with each hitter to let them know what they re hitting and when the ball is put into play make a split second decision on who you re going to set based on the pass you get, the other team s blockers, defense and abilities. Despite the democratization movements in Latin America and Eastern Europe in 1980s and 90s, Middle Eastern authoritarian regimes proved to be resilient. Despite the recent Arab Spring protests, most Middle Eastern nations live under authoritarian regimes. How do these authoritarian regimes survive for so long? What are the factors that contribute to their longevity? Most Eastern European countries that were part of the Eastern bloc, after the fall of the Berlin Wall began the transition process started by the changes in social system and started to connect into the European Union. Although some of these states essentially have not changed, however, public discourse is certainly different, the market has been liberalized, and states such as Romania and Bulgaria are even members of the European Union. In the Middle East the situation is totally different. Rulers of the dynasties, kings, in this part of the world ruled for decades and there are no indications that the situation might change. Some of them not even the Arab spring (which was simulated process of social change) has managed to waver. This primarily refers to the rulers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the Emirates. The question is what are the factors that influence both durable and firm power? The first reason is certainly an authoritative stance that rulers occupy which is almost the dictatorship and sometimes even exceeds borders of the dictatorship. With that in mind, this is what I think about Hume s Problem of Induction: a) Healthy skepticism. This is the keyword in Hume s argument. What I take from his line of reasoning is that we should always save a place in our mind for doubting our conclusions and being open to other ideas. Knowing that our past experiences aren t a box in which we can contain the universe and expect it to behave within our self appointed candidates of frameworks can lead to some real nasty dogmatic beliefs. b) Credibility vs. absolute truths. Theories gain credibility as the body of data grows and fits within the theory, all attempts to falsify it fail, and they lead us to a better understanding of the surroundings which in due time become a part of our knowledge about the word. Necessary costs for Sec 162 does encompass values related to maintenance and repairs, which is how Sec 263 and Sec 162 relate to one another (I.R.C. §1.162 4). Capitalization requirements in Sec 263, requires amounts of production, acquisition, and improvement of tangible property to not be expensed out but capitalized and amortized over a period of time (26 U.S.C. §263(a)1). Code 263 possesses the concept that if the costs are related to a reasonable future sale then there are grounds to capitalize even before production is finalized. What is interesting of 263 is that it triumphs the de minimis rule, which will be examined later, because if there is the reasonable future purpose of production it is then is capitalized (IRC §1.263(a) 2T(g)). The de minimis rule will then play out if the property is not to be utilized in the production and de minimis is elected it would fall under Sec 162 and be expensed. • 16. Relationship Between A Parent And A Child Introduction When imagining the relationship between a parent and a child, one usually envisions a caring mother or father cradling an infant in their arms, playing games with a toddler, or even teaching a school age child to read. These caring images are one of positivity and optimism. Indeed, familial relationships of this nature are rather typical for the typical supportive family, but what can happen when the family is not of typical form? When the picture takes on a dark undertone, say a tone of physical or emotional abuse or neglect, how might the relationships between a caregiver and child be affected? This relationship is described as attachment, which is the relational pattern a child begins to develop in infancy with at least one primary caregiver (Lehman, Jegtvig 2004). Within the first example, the child develops a relatively normal, healthy attachment; however, within the second scenario where abuse or neglect is present, children may form a type of attachment know as Reactive Attachment Disorder, or RAD (Lehman, Jegtvig 2004). This disorder has profound implications for the child s overall development. Defining Reactive Attachment Disorder Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) is a relational pattern characteristic of children who have learned not to trust, rely on, help, or love another human being (Lehman, Jegtvig 2004). John The Savage Alienation Claire Conti AP Literature Mrs. Scruggs 29 August 2017 A Savage s New World In the totalitarian country of London, the people are not subjected to war, hate, poverty, disease and suffering. There is an abundance of wealth, leisure and pleasures, but with utopia comes elimination of freedom and orthodox values. The people in the society are created in factories, then put into a strict 5 class hierarchy. To take the edge off of the harshness of reality, they take a synthetic drug called Soma and drift into blissful ignorance. When a savage named John who becomes isolated from his indian tribe in New Mexico comes to live in utopia London, he is forced to learn the strange, untraditional customs of the civilization. In the end, he has to choose between either assimilation or death. In the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, John the Savage is both alienated from his community and emotionally enriched after being isolated from his home tribe. John the Savage s view of civilization was greatly enhanced after he left the sheltered community of his tribe. When he first arrives in utopia London, he is amazed by the aesthetic of the city and the people who live there; here he recognizes how different the paradisal city is from the barbarous environment of his tribe. John exclaims, how many godly creatures are there here! How beautiful mankind is! (129). Justice is usually decided by society or the quot;norm. quot; The quot;norm quot; changes from one society to another. However, there are always laws that can be broken, consequences that must follow, and punishment that must be imparted. Justice can be seen in two different ways, social and criminal. Justice is in the eye of the beholder because we all have different attitudes about right and wrong. Equal and satisfying justice has always been a problem. On May 30, 1939 a group of Texas Rangers decided to ambush and murder two people they wanted to destroy. • 19. Senior Year Of High School Senior year of high school, while filled with excitement and anticipation, can be a stressful time for those applying to college. Deciding on a college is not like buying a new pair of shoes; shoes can be bought, taken home, and, if necessary, returned for something else. In this respect, colleges are not so forgiving. While the option to transfer exists in theory, the expense of transferring and the complicated logistics of transferring from one university to another leave students with limited options. High school seniors applying to colleges must think carefully about where they will be for the next four years. There are countless factors that each must consider in evaluating a prospective college, but each school s academics and social life are two important factors that must be considered paramount. The University of Virginia (UVA) is one institution that offers top tier academics and a vibrant social scene. Academics are no doubt a major consideration when weighing universities; UVA is nationally recognized for its academics, and it has long been competitive as the premier university in public higher education. Any accredited university can award a degree, with varying levels of prestige to be sure, but perhaps most pertinent in evaluating a college is the quality of the education it has to offer. UVA has long been committed to investing in the quality of its academics. Professors at major universities are notorious for caring almost exclusively about their research and academic prestige, but at UVA, while undoubtedly committed to publishing first rate research, professors are viewed as mentors. The value of this academic relationship cannot be overstated; PhDs guarantee intellectual brilliance, but they do not always translate into good professors. Professors at UVA regularly undergo formal instruction on pedagogy, meaning they receive formal training to ensure that each professor is teaching for the sake of learning and not just lecturing for the sake of fulfilling a job requirement. Not to be overlooked are the various study abroad opportunities that UVA has to offer. In today s global economy, study abroad opportunities offer unbeatable, invaluable experience. The Muslim-Christian Response To The Crusades Rich in delightful episodes and dramatic events, spread over two centuries and three continents, the Crusades were one of the fascinating events of Muslim Christian encounters. The Crusades constitute a series of almost two century long military campaigns (1095 1291) conducted by the Christians of Western Europe against the Muslims in the land of Palestine and the eastern Mediterranean coastal strip. The Christian aim was to wrest the Holy Land, Jerusalem, from the Muslims. Annoyed, angered, frightened, and disgusted by the presence of uninvited aliens in the midst of their cultures, the Muslim response to the Crusades was initially one of intermittent, unorganised, and disrupted by a preoccupation with internal problems. Since the historic significance of the Crusades during the first half of the second millennium CE cannot be denied by either the Muslims or Christians. However, it may be argued that the Muslim interest in the Crusades has been more a matter of curiosity than a sense of the relevance of these events in modern times. For the Christians of Western Europe, it seems that these events are still pertinent to their lives and thought, because the concept behind them evokes a feeling of service to God and righteousness. In the twentieth century, the Arab world rediscovered the Crusades, viewing them as symbols for current political problems. Some saw the medieval Crusading states as protocolonists , the precursors of Napoleon in Egypt, the British Mandate for Palestine, the state of Israel, and the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. The Crusades marked the initial phase of Western imperialism in the region (isti mar mubakkar or premature imperialism). For other Muslims, the Crusades have been seen in religious terms, as part of a continuing conflict between Christianity and Islam. The brutality of their campaigns, particularly in comparison with the noble reputation of Ṣalāḥ al Dīn Ayyūbī, continues to colour Muslim perception of the Christian West. Horror fiction needs to be in a certain order, structured, and have specific horror traits. Some essential traits to horror she later talks about, are supernatural elements, eerie settings, and suspense. When these elements interact horror is created. The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Sergeant Morris, also told the readers how all the previous six wishes were answered. Multiple wishes answered using the same process, could not be coincidence. Another reason that this story fits into the supernatural trait is how Mr. White describes his experience using the paw. He states, it twisted in my hand like a snake (pg 110). The writers and poets of medieval Europe created their own tropes and themes throughout the entire history of the century. 14th century literature is greatly impacted by many factors: historical, religious, aesthetic. The 14th century also contained a mass of literary movements, often times coexisting with the aforementioned factors. Historical Events and Context Peasants Revolt The Peasants Revolt was an aftermath of the Black Death, which also greatly influenced literature and arts throughout its course. The Peasants Revolt year 1381 significantly altered literature during the course of the 14th century. The Peasants Revolt was unique in its significance because what is considered modern day England was the only medieval society to have a peasants revolt (Swain). Naturally, such a huge uprising brings influence with it. Besides the Bubonic Plague, another reason for the Peasants Revolt occurred due an expanding middle class, which then in turn took land away from Nobles. This land crisis caused the Nobility to have an upset, and they enacted a law to stop the Peasant Class from having social mobility. Like most societal uprising, money was a huge factor. This new law included a poll tax, which heavily taxed the lower class. Unfortunately, the Nobles made an error and based the tax on the population before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

European Union, one of the most advanced democratic models of our time, is one of the key players at the global level which understands the need for this change in perspective and constantly advocates for more elaborate policies and joined plans of action. The feed in tariffs could be explained simply by taking the cost of a particular system, dividing that figure by the number of kilowatt/hours that the system can reasonably be expected to generate over its service life (generally 20 years), and the result is the cost of that system per kilowatt hour. Now, tack on whatever return on investment (ROI) is desired, and a feed in tariff had been obtained. This approach allows a distinction to be made not only between different renewables technologies (solar, wind, etc), but also between different system sizes. As an example a big wind farm will undoubtedly produce more energy than the power collected from a certain amount of solar rooftops. With offering different feed in tariffs for various system sizes, one can ensure the economic viability of the various applications, thereby preventing windfall profits for large projects. 1.2. Secondly, in the coming decades, the trend of liberalising energy markets will have to be combined with ambitious environmental goals within the European Union (EU). • 27. The Effect Of Sodium Chloride On The Germination Rate Of... Introduction The purpose of this experiment is to observe the effects of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) on the germination rate of Wisconsin Fast Plants. Wisconsin Fast Plants (WFPs), or Brassica rapa, are plants in the Cruciferous family, developed through selective breeding from a strain of Himalayan weeds (Williams). WFPs have a life cycle of around forty days. This short life cycle makes WFPs valuable for laboratory study. In addition, WFPs are simple to grow, as they only need water and a light source to survive (Williams). Their simple needs, allowing ease in controlling variables, make WFPs ideal for use in experiments. Germination is the stage of plant growth through which a seed becomes a seedling plant. First, the seed begins to absorb water and the radicle root emerges from the seed coat and into the water. Then, the primary roots grow, the cotyledons move above ground, the stem begins to grow, and leaves develop. The process is complete when the first leaves open and the cotyledons fall off (The Learning Garden 2001). NaCl has been shown to have a negative effect on plant growth (Lee and Van Iersal 2016) and germination (Houle et al. 2001). The severity of these effects depends on the individual species ability to grow in saline soil (Atkins et al. 2009). WFPs are part of a group of plants called glycophytes, meaning that they have a limited ability to tolerate NaCl (Atkins et al. 2009). However, he may not be able to speak at all, or may speak in sentences that are hard to understand (Thompson, 2013). Toivonen, a professor at Carleton University, discussed the significance of information flow in the brain using the example of reading out loud. This example illustrates the phenomenon that when an area of the information pathway is damaged, correspondingly, the message relay can become interrupted. First and for most, the process of articulating begins with the Wernicke s area of the brain activating when an individual accesses and interprets the lexicon, their mental dictionary. From there, the arcuate fascicles, a bundle of nerve fibres, transmits information sent from the Wernicke s area to the Broca s area. The Broca s area then interprets this information and transmits articulatory information to the motor cortex. Finally, the motor cortex directs movement of the muscles to produce and pronounce speech. (Toivonen, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Decline Of Virtue Ethics Achieving a Decent Society See The Decline of Virtue Ethics in the Modern Society and Its Different Forms The Modern Society The modern society may be moving forward in terms of scientific and technological advancements yet as years go by, the development of ethics and morality tends to move backward. Due to our utmost fascination to material advancements, we tend to forget what truly matters. According to Smith (2014), the modern society rewards material progress while neglecting moral progress. As such, people of the modern age disregard moral and intellectual virtues as if they are a nuisance to their everyday lives. Furthermore, the society prioritizes other affiliations and pursues their own endeavors without considering the possible consequences that might arise due to their unethical or immoral practices. In addition, the modern society is heavily influenced by copious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, the decline of virtue ethics due to the flawed educational system is explicitly depicted through the immoral practices of the modern youth that they perceive as something worth bragging about or something that they consider as an achievement. The modern society also disregards ethics for the reason that they think it is something that is old or irrelevant for the modern setting. • 40. Theme Of Vengeance In The Oresteia Orestes has to kill her (Zeitlin, 476). The view of vengeance in Aeschylus s The Oresteia also depends on the situation the person enacting the vengeance is in beforehand. Another component that changes the view of vengeance is what situation the character is in; meaning how the murderer is related to the victim and the position they are in at the time or before. Clytemnestra is in a situation where her husband kills their daughter and she can either retaliate or live with the fact that Iphigenia is dead. She chooses to kill her husband and she does not have any support other than that of Aegisthus. Orestes is basically forced into killing his mother and Aegisthus by Apollo and people around him like his sister Electra and the Chorus as well as his friend Pylades. In the beginning of Liberation Bearers, Orestes comes back and encounters his sister Electra at their father s grave. During their reacquaintance, Orestes tells Electra that he has been ordered to kill Clytemnestra and Aegisthus by Apollo, ...if I failed to kill my father s killers.......to kill the two of them as they killed him, in the same way. He said that otherwise I d pay the debt with my own life, and it would be a life of torment that would never end (Aeschylus, Liberation Bearers lines 307 313). He has this threat hanging over his head and any time he starts to waver, his friend Pylades, his sister, and the chorus encouraged him. the third and last storm battering their house. In the end, Orestes does in fact come third and as a saviour. Before entering the palace he rehearses the piece of deceit by which he wraps his mother and Aegisthus in their own toils. As he puts it before his sister and the confederate chorus of Trojan captives, he will not give Aegisthus time to ask from where he has come , this shows that he has a lot of support behind him in this endeavor in addition to the support of Apollo (Clay, 4). After he kills his mother and her lover, he has to wash his hands of the blood and, to be cured, he must journey to the oracle of Delphi (Burke, 382). Orestes kills his mother, subsequently he begins to see the furies that are coming after him (Burke, 382). The Furies that are now pursuing him punish blood guilt (Burke, 382) ... • 41. A Business Pl Summertime Sno Cones Essay Following is an analysis of a hypothetical business I would find pleasure enacting. When choosing to run a business, both strategy and passion need to be present. One of my future business plans is Summertime Sno Cones. A privately owned and operated, seasonal business that produces snow cones at a reasonable price, in a family friendly environment. I believe an energetic and inviting snow cone stand could bring happiness to people in my community, and could also be a lucrative business venture. My family currently has a snow cone business in a prime location in Hugo, Oklahoma. Upon their retirement, they plan to pass it down to me. The building will need many, future renovations, in order to enact my plan and make the environment more accommodating and friendly for a larger, more diverse audience. A couple of essential changes that would need to be implemented before I opened, would be a small expansion of the building to include more storage space, as well as renovation and cleaning of the lot on which the business located. By graduation, I hope to have the savings needed to buy the necessary supplies to make the aforementioned renovations. Snow cones have played an important role in my raising and I have bonded and grown with my family over this sweet cold treat. Currently, at the beginning of fall, my family s snow cone stand is selling an average of 100 snow cones per day. My total fixed costs for a month of operation amount to $410. Helena didn t want to work in the circus anymore; she wanted to be normal like everybody else. After finding out they need to get the mirrormask to save the kingdom, she embarks on an adventure to save the queen. Along the way, she meets a guy, Valentine that accompanies alongside with her. Is it true love? This movie is about growing up and realizing that even if you don t have much, you should still be grateful for what you have. • 43. The Concept Of Sin In Dante Alighieri s Inferno Dante Alighieri s Inferno is the first of three books in The Divine Comedy. A comedy in Dante s time didn t mean what it means today: a comedy was a piece of literature that moved from dark to light or from damnation to salvation in the eyes of God. In The Inferno, Dante delves into darkness and damnation, and his view of the nature of Hell. Dante was a devout Catholic, so most of his inspiration for The Inferno came from the Bible. In Dante s version of Hell, there are nine circles that reach to the center of the Earth: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Avarice and Prodigality, Wrath and Sullenness, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery. Those who commit the least severe sins are put near the top, as in Limbo, and the worst sins at the bottom come with the worst punishments. Dante, the character in the book, is escorted by the poet Virgil to literally explore Dante s descent into sin. To better understand the book s concept of sin, the reader should compare the least sinful part of Hell, Limbo, to the most sinful part of Hell, the ninth circle where Satan is kept. The poem begins with Dante waking up in a forest. Dante tries to climb the mountain and sees three beasts: a leopard, a lion, and a wolf. Later, Dante meets Virgil, a Roman poet Dante is fond of, to help him climb the mountain. Virgil says they have to go through Hell first before reaching Heaven, where Beatrice, a woman Dante loved in real life, will be waiting for him. Eventually, Dante and Virgil get to the first ... In a truly free society, a pure libertarian society, there would be open borders so individuals can freely associate with one another. The closing of borders violates the fundamental human right to movement and the fundamental human right to trade through mutual consent. If individuals are crossing the border internationally and are not harming individuals private property, there should be no restrictions. • 45. The Government As An Intermediate Agency The government is an intermediate agency which has the main, though by no means the exclusive, responsibility for society s adherence to the principles which favour increased autonomy and respect for people s choices. When one thinks about the work of governments throughout history, they look like extremely obnoxious, or at least dangerous, artefacts, for which the need, and, consequently, the conditions and limits, require moral justification. The mere fact that the government prescribes something to us does not morally justify our doing it (though it may prudentially justify it, and therefore, in some cases it may morally excuse it). The decision to obey a government must be an autonomous one one that, like any decision which can affect other people, we should justify on the basis of a freely accepted moral principle. But if this is so, to what extent are we really obeying the government and not simply governing ourselves? And if the moral person always governs himself, what, for him, is the moral relevance of having a government (besides solving co ordination problems or altering the factual setting)? The era of wars and terrorism was followed by segregation, racial sub ordination, and complacence. One report written by senior civil servants in 1934 for the Department of Health actually suggested that the eugenics policies of the Nazi Germany should be adopted in the UK. In 1927 Westminster passed the Mental Deficiency Act giving the authorities wide powers to detain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Heartburn Remedies Natural heartburn remedies are deemed as the best methods of treating heartburn and acid reflux for good. Heartburn is that burning sensation one feels spreading across the chest coming up from the pits of the stomach and often reaching the throat and leaving a sour, acidic taste. The burning sensation is the result of the esophageal walls reacting to the acid. Lowes and Home Depot are similar with what they offer and both have large warehouse stores. The other smaller competitors like True Value, Ace Hardware, and Hughes Supply are not even close when it comes to what Lowes or Home Depot are accomplishing. The biggest threat that faces Lowes now is that Home Depot has been training with a Chinese retailer and bought the store. Now Home Depot has a foothold in a growing Chinese market. New Entrants: Any company that tries to move into the home improvement will have difficulty in competing with Lowes or Home Depot. This is because they have created what is known as an oligopoly in the United States. They account for the majority of the home improvement industries overall market and thus creating an economy of scale because of their purchasing power. Any company that attempts to enter this market will face a huge difference in economy of scale that they may have difficulty overcoming. • 48. Review Of Battle Hymns Of The Tiger Mother By Dr.... One of the many arduous decisions parents face is how to raise their children. Over time, renowned thinkers the world over have identified and coined different distinct styles of parenting and their outcomes. Diana Baumrind is credited for her three styles of parenting: permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative. Amy Chua first identified a particular style of parenting characterized by strict regulations known as Tiger Parenting in her book Battle Hymns of the Tiger Mother . In contrast, free range parenting, popularized by Dr. Benjamin Spock, takes a laissez faire approach. Good Morning Today took a look at three distinct styles of parenting from the eyes of three successful children, to help see things from a different perspective. The first style of parenting mentioned is known as Tiger Parenting . First coined by Yale law professor Amy Chua, the style has become a common household name. Strict regimen parents who prioritize academic success and scholastic achievements are characteristic of this style. Furthermore, high academic expectations and few freedoms typically await the child. Shanny Lee recounts her experience on being raised under a tiger mom. She recalls having to practice math problems at age five immediately after school. In her mother s eyes, nothing below a B grade would be acceptable and she recalls feeling scared to come home with a lower grade. Dilemma: Was it the right decision to withhold experimental drug PLX4032 from Mr. Ryan for the sake of following protocol and not tainting the trial s results, even though standard chemotherapy was ineffective? Assignment 4 (I need a title) The story of Thomas McLaughlin and Brandon Ryan is of a path that suddenly diverged with a roll of a dice. As cousins, not only did they share a life together by riding dirt bikes in the summer, spending holidays together at their grandmother s house, and even having the same occupation in welding; they also shared the same lethal skin cancer: Melanoma. Not only could a complete experimental trial help avoid mistakes based on early promise in a study, there was also the possibility that Mr. Ryan would not benefit from PLX4032, which in effect would have delayed the study as the principals of a randomized controlled trial would have been compromised. By maintaining Mr. Ryan in the control group and withholding PLX4032, we realize that this decision would only cause Mr. Ryan to suffer, and to die prematurely. Despite dacarbazine being one of the few FDA approved chemotherapy drugs, and thereby labeled the standard form of care in the treatment of metastatic melanoma for over 3 decades, we see that historically this intervention has proven to be ineffective (Bhatia, Tykodi, Thompson, 2009). Through a pooled analysis, research indicates that this drug has only a 15.3% objective response rate, with only 2% of patients living past 6 years (Bhatia et. al., 2009). Likewise, the side effects implicated with toxic treatment are inevitable with dacarbazine, so subjecting Mr. Ryan to this regimen of treatment causes needless suffering. Even doctors involved in the study, including Dr. Keith Flaherty of Massachusetts General Hospital, have expressed their hatred toward dacarbazine by stating that they would prefer to never give a dose again in their life, and by lobbying for chemotherapy patients worsening in the trial to be positioned in a new trial headed by PLX4032 s competitor ...
