MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCESMULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Howard Gardner has put
forward the
Theory Of
Multiple
Intelligences
Types of intelligence
1)Linguistic Intelligence
It involves sensitivity to spoken and written
language, the ability to learn languages, and the
capacity to use language to accomplish certain
goals.
This intelligence includes the ability to
effectively use language to express oneself
rhetorically or poetically; and language as a
means to remember information.
This intelligence is found in
professionals like lawyers,
teachers, writers, leaders,
hypnotists etc.
Educational Implications
. Teachers can enhance their students'
verbal/linguistic intelligence by having them
keep journals, play word games, and by
encouraging discussion.
Students’ linguistic expression
should be appreciated .
She should make pupils to react
appropriately to different moods.
Encourage them to learn new
vocabulary and new languages.
 Teachers should encourage pupils
to narrate a simple story .
2)Logical mathematical intelligence2)Logical mathematical intelligence
It consists of the capacity to analyze
problems logically, carry out
mathematical operations, and
investigate issues scientifically.
It is the ability to detect patterns,
reason deductively and think
logically.
Scientists ,astronomers posses
this intelligence.
EducationalEducational
ImplicationsImplications
Teachers must provide things to think
about and explore i.e.: science materials
etc
 Trips to the planetarium and science
museum, etc must be organised.
Working with numbers, experiments,
solving problems must be given by
teachers.
3) Spatial Intelligence
continuedcontinued
It involves the potential to recognize and
use the patterns of wide space and more
confined areas.
It includes awareness of patterns and
designs in different spaces.
voyagers ,tourists and travelers have this
intelligence.
Educational ImplicationsEducational Implications
LEGOs, video, movies, slides, art,
imagination games, mazes, puzzles,
illustrated book, trips to art museums,
etc must be provided by schools.
Maps, reading charts, drawing, mazes,
puzzles, imagining things, visualization ---
must be taken care of.
-------------------------------------------------
---Vocabulary charts to be drawn to
make them vision .
 Color code a process or flow chart to
be explained.
Graphics for a Multi-media
representation should be created.
A video or visual collage should be
made .
A photo essay or a bulletin board can
be created for the topic .
Multi-media equipment can be used
to present information.
4)Musical intelligence4)Musical intelligence
It includes distinguishing between different
rhythms and music patterns.
It involves skill in the performance,
composition, and appreciation of musical
patterns.
It encompasses the capacity to recognize
and compose musical pitches, tones, and
rhythms.
Music composers, musicians posses this
intelligence.
Educational ImplicationsEducational Implications
Singing competitions, trips to concerts,
music playing at home and school, musical
instruments, etc.
Rhythm, singing, melody, listening to
music and melodies.
play an instrument, listen to music, hum
Activities which develop this intelligence
must be organized by schools
5)Bodily kinesthetic intelligence5)Bodily kinesthetic intelligence
It includes knowing how to solve
problems using your body and athleticism.
It entails the potential of using one’s
whole body or parts of the body to solve
problems.
It is the ability to use mental abilities to
coordinate bodily movements.
Sportsmen, gymnasts ,dancers posses this
abilities.
Educational ImplicationsEducational Implications
Activities like Role-play, drama,
things to build, movements,
sports and physical games must
be organised by teachers and
schools.
6)Intrapersonal intelligence6)Intrapersonal intelligence
 It includes a high level of self-awareness.
 It is concerned with the capacity to
understand the intentions, motivations and
desires of other people.
 It involves having an effective working model
of ourselves, and to be able to use such
information to regulate our lives.
 Educators ,scientists etc need a well-
developed intrapersonal intelligence.
Educational ImplicationsEducational Implications
A visit to Secret places,
Self-paced projects, choices, etc to be
given.
Let students work alone,
Let them have their own space,
Let them reflect.
7)interpersonal intelligence7)interpersonal intelligence
It includes the ability to understand and
interact with other people.
It entails the capacity to understand oneself,
to appreciate one’s feelings, fears and
motivations.
Leaders and psychologists need this
intelligence.
Educational ImplicationsEducational Implications
Allow them to make friends.
Arrange group games.
 Social gatherings at home and in schools
must be organised,
Schools must organize community events,
Set up clubs like math club, geography
club etc and allow them to be the
members .
Let them be the mentors of weak
students.
8)Existential intelligence8)Existential intelligence
---------------------------------------------
----
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a sensitivity and capacity to tackle
deep questions .
It is about human existence such as,
What is the meaning of life? Why do we
die? How did we get here? Etc.
9)Naturalistic intelligence9)Naturalistic intelligence
It includes knowledge about your environment
and elements in nature
• It refers to having sensitivity for nature
Child attends , absorbs ,remembers the
details of nature.
Child responds sympathetically and
empathically with the natural environment.
Child shows respect for nature
Painters, Botanists and horticulturists have
this kind of intelligence
Educational ImplicationsEducational Implications
 Let the students work in nature,
Let them explore living things,
Let them learn about plants and natural
things.
Take students for excursions and field
trips.
Let them enjoy nature.
----------------------------------------------
---Activities like debate on global issues like
global warming, save planet, save animals
can be organized .
Visual display of objects from nature
should be created.
Teacher can ask students to find
problems related to nature.
Teacher can ask students to observe
the lifestyle of animals in nature.

All intelligences are needed to live life
well.
Teachers ,parents and schools, therefore,
need to attend to all intelligences.
