Morph: A morph is simply the phonetic representation of a morpheme, how the morpheme is said.
Morpheme: Smallest meaningful unit, cannot be further divided or analyzed
Allomorph: Allomorphs are different forms of the same morpheme, or basic unit of meaning.These can be different pronunciations or different spellings.

Deep Structure and Surface Structure
Deep structure is an abstract syntactical representation of a sentence. On the other hand, the surface structure of a sentence is the final stage in the syntactical representation of a sentence
The phoneme can be defined as "the smallest contrastive linguistic unit which may bring about a change of meaning" (Gimson, A.C. (2008), Cruttenden, A., ed., The Pronunciation of English (7 ed.)). This definition can be clarified by a practice called minimal pair which is listing pairs of words which are different in meaning and phonologically distinct only in one phonological element.
Minimal pair can be illustrated in the following examples:
The words "pin" /pɪn/ and "pan" /pæn/ are different only in their middle sounds i.e. /ɪ/ & /æ/. Therefore the sounds /ɪ/ & /æ/ are considered to be different phonemes.
The words "pill" /pɪl/ and "bill" /bɪl/ are different only in their initial sounds i.e. /p/ & /b/. Therefore the sounds /p/ & /b/ are considered to be different phonemes.
An allophone, on the other hand, is one of a set of multiple possible spoken sounds (or phones) used to pronounce a single phoneme. It can be considered to be variations of a phoneme and doesn't change the meaning of a word.
e.g. the phoneme /p/ in the word "pill" /pɪl/ can be aspirated [pʰɪl ]. So the aspirated [pʰ] is considered to be the allophone of the phoneme /p/

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. 6. • Free morphemes are those that can stand alone as
words.
• Example:
- {girl}
- {system}
- {desire}
- {hope}
- {act}
- {phone}
- {happy}
All of these morphems are free morpheme
7. Gramatical units that never occurs by it self, but is
always attached to some other morpheme.
Example : Un-Happy.
* Happy is the original
morpheme.
* Un is the Bound
morphemes.
“Un, ness, lu, hood, dis, and ant”, they are all bound
morphemes
9. The core different between the two being that the addition of
the derivational morphemes creates a new words or mostly
changes the word clasess/identity/category ; while the
addition of the inflectiona morphemes merely changes word
form.

morpheme used to create new word. New word with
a new meaning.
• N + Derivational Morpheme --> Adj.
Ex. Boy + ish,
• Verb + Derivational Morpheme --> Noun Ex.

• Adj. + Derivational Morpheme --> Adverb
Ex. Exact + ly, quiet + ly
11. Main criteria for
derivational morpheme :
Create a new words with a different
meaning
Change the word class of the base
Note : Not all derivational morpheme
change word class !!
12. INFLECTIONAL MORPHEME : change the
form but not the word class or the central
meaning of the word.
Main function : marking grammatical distinction
Cat VS. Cats >> Singular VS. Plural
Collects VS. Collected >> Present VS. Past
Loud VS. Louder >> Positive VS. Comparative
13. Wheter or not word class changes
and how significantly meaning is
affected, “derivation” always
creates new word existing one ;
while “inflection” is merely limited to
change word form.

“An Allomorph is one of two or more
complementary morph (the phonetic
realization of morpheme), which manifest a
morpheme in its different phonological or
morphological environments”.
Allomorph refers to a variant of a morpheme.
Such variance occurs due to the phonological
conditioning of the surrounding sounds

17. ZERO ALLOMORPH is the term given to
the unit involved when a morpheme
change status form one type of
morpheme to another without any
condition or subtraction of its parts.

Lawyer (singular) + Ø → Lawyer (plural)
