French Empire Research Paper
The French Empire is the greatest empire in the world because at the peak of its reign, the French had
conquered over 4.9 million square miles, which is 1/10 of the all the land on Earth. Because of this,
architecture, cuisine, and culture got spread all over the world. The French Empire reigned for 428
years and that s just another reason why it was the greatest of all time. The French Empire really
started on July 21, 1605 when Port Royal was founded where nowadays Nova Scotia, Canada is
located. Nova Scotia actually means New Scotland in Latin. Samual De Chaplain founded Quebec in
1608, and Quebec later became the capital of the second biggest country in the world. In Canada,

Most of the things they made, we still use today. They were the people who invented canned food.
There is a story behind it also. So the army was struggling to keep people alive while they were off to
war while it was freezing cold outside and Napoleon made a reward of 12.000 franks for the person
who could make something that could preserve food. So Nicolas Appert ended up inventing the
canning jars sealed with wax. It also a french person who figured out how to preserve milk. They
found out that if you heat milk up and then cool it fast and package it. It was Louis Pasteur who
discovered how to pasteurize the milk. In 1806, a doctor discovered the stethoscope. At the time, this
new way was the only way to identify problems inside the body without actually cutting the patient
up. The best of all, Mayo. A French chef made mayo by mixing oil and eggs. He did this because they
had just won a battle and the army was going to celebrate and there wasn t enough cream on the
island, so he tried something new and got mayonnaise. The name Mayonnaise actually comes from the
island port that it was made on, Port Mayon. The French did pretty good in World War One. They didn
t trust the Germans to start with, so that gave them reasons to join the war. They started with around
40 million people as a country and a little over a million for an army. The French made it through the
World War One with some casualties, but they did last through the whole war. They really didn t want
to have another war on their home land after seeing the destruction of Europe as a

Personality Changes From Infancy And Childhood Adulthood
Personality is conceptualised as the combination of a person s independent experiences as well as their
behaviours and actions relating to those behaviours (Kernberg, 2016). These experiences and actions
result in multiple traits and characteristics that modern society uses to define a person s identity. This
essay explores how personality changes from infancy and childhood to adulthood. It will be argued
that personality has the ability to be altered due to range of factors relating to increasing age and an
individual s surrounding environment and experiences. Discussion of a range of personality theories
and examples of radical personality differences will further show that personalities can be changed
through out life.
A well known example of a personality change is known in modern society as a midlife crisis and is
found to occur amongst males aged thirty five to sixty, more commonly referred to as middle aged. A
midlife crisis is often characterised by a sudden and drastic change in behaviour due to an event or
abrupt realisation. The concept of crisis directly relates to the differing nature of one s personality,
which includes a change in morals, relationships, values and principles (Brim, 1976). It is proposed
that this change may occur due it being the first time a man has reflected on his life and achievements
and further compares them to the goals he had as a young male (Tamir, 1982). Brim s Theories of the
male mid life crisis (1976) concludes that there

A Brief Note On The Japanese Religion Of Shintoism
Larry Guindine
World History

Documentary Questions:
1. People tended to worship nature gods such as spirits of the earth, sky and river. As the human
communities matured and developed, local, tribal and ancestral spirits became the center of focus in
their beliefs and religious life. This leads to inferring that people did not understand natural
phenomena and thought it was a punishment for their behavior from the deities. People thought
natural phenomena was able to change based on their relationships with the deities.
2. People created a sense of community and working together. Eventually, some people began to
question their belief systems through communication and realized that they can focus more on
relationships among human beings. This led to both uniformity, dispute and separation, among people
who had different views on religion and human interaction.
3. The Japanese religion of Shintoism is most closely associated. The emperor even had to renounce
his divinity of the descendant of the sun line at the end of World War II since this religion associated
itself with the whole population of Japan, not just the royalty. To this day, many Shinto rituals are
practiced in Japan, such as wedding ceremonies at shrines and methods of protecting the people from
pollution, such as cleansing themselves with water before entering the gates of a Shinto shrine, are
still practiced.

Community Analysis for Homeless Families Essay
Listening to the evening news, it takes little imagination to figure out many families are in trouble.
The National Coalition for the Homeless estimate that on any given night in the United States of
America, there are seven hundred thousand people on the streets and without shelter (National
Coalition for the Homeless, 2010). Within this analysis for the homeless, let us consider families,
residing in Independence,
Missouri. The problem outlined, in an article by James Evertt, in the Independence Examiner, quotes
Larry Blick, a former Independence City Manager, putting the number of homeless students in the
district at five hundred sixteen. Evertt goes on to share a comment by, Cathy Asher, shelter director of

Many cities have outlawed begging and loitering in public areas. She quoted the New York Times as
stating that the concern over tourism, sanitation, and business as the force behind criminalization of
homelessness. Having a large homeless population gives the impression that the area is unsafe and
negatively affects the quality of life (More, 2010). Independence needs to be proactive and do more to
insure that there are no homeless families within our city, not by making homelessness illegal but by
providing safe affordable homes and programs to help families regain their status as tax paying
citizens. The Mills Family Transitional Living Centers The Mills Family Transitional Living Centers

Similarities And Differences Between Gilgamesh And Achilles
Each mythological hero by all accounts seems to be on a quest searching for what he desire most on
the planet. The same can be said for the two heroes I chose, Gilgamesh and Achilles. Gilgamesh s
greatest fear was dying, while Achilles fear was his legacy lost and overlooked. Although their wishes
differ, their quest share numerous similarities. In the end it all comes down to the same thing. Both
Gilgamesh and Achilles wanted immortality regardless of anything else, but each in his own particular
manner. In spite of the fact that immortality has a different meaning for Gilgamesh, as it does for
Achilles, each choice and additionally every one of the sacrifices they make, all depend on their fear
of dying and death. Both Gilgamesh and Achilles actions showed insight into their cultures. It
somewhat proved an answer to the way they did things and why they.
First, Gilgamesh and Achilles are two epic heroes who share some differences. Among the differences
there are also some similarities. Achilles and Gilgamesh were to a great degree different with respect
to their identity and how they reacted to death. Achilles was a warrior and Gilgamesh was a ruler, each
all around respected and feared in their role. They both demonstrated fearlessness and toughness in
their parts, yet their responses to the passing of their best friend varied greatly. Combined Achilles and
Gilgamesh participated in many battles, as discussed in Homer s Iliad and the Mesopotamian Epic of
Gilgamesh .

A Brief Note On The Medical Insurance Specialists
ANALYSIS Jim has reorganized the call center by integrating the senior insurance specialists with the
medical insurance specialists instead of having them divided separately into two groups. The reason
for this change is for the senior insurance specialists to offer guidance to the medical insurance
specialists. Jim requests Dave s OD intervention to address the main problem of missing time
commitments. There are many cases to be worked and complex cases are time consuming. If a case
does not have to be escalated, it can be processed faster. The medical insurance specialists cannot keep
up with the volume of cases and calls to physicians which slow down the process. Also, the majority
of cases are detained with the medical insurance specialists. Hiring additional staff is not in the
budget. Jim thinks that the senior insurance consultants could help the medical insurance specialists
because they are more knowledgeable. Dave requests to observe employees at work prior to the
employee meeting. Dave observes Rosie, a medical insurance specialist, who has cases backed up and
calls on hold which puts her in limbo. Rosie does not want to escalate her cases because she fears
losing her job based on the fact that previous employees were outsourced. She resents the involvement
of senior insurance consultants interfering in her work. Next, Dave observes Carlos, a senior insurance
consultant, who processes complex cases that are very time consuming. Carlos perceives the transition

Essay about Socrates Argument with Crito
Socrates Argument with Crito
Socrates has presented a period of questions and answers through dialogue with Crito to examine if he
going into exile will damage his reputation. Socrates questions and answers with Crito establishes that
a person must decide whether the society he or she lives has a just reasoning behind it s own standards
of right and wrong and that a person must have pride in the life that he or she leads. By confirming
these two concepts through questions, Socrates attempted to prove to his companion Crito, that the
choice that he has made is just: I am the kind of man who listens only to the argument that on
reflection seems best to me. I cannot, now that this fate has come upon me, discard the arguments I
used; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By living in Athen for 70 years Socrates has agreed to have faith in the cities virtues and in the force
of decisions that are imposed upon him and as a citizen he respects them. Any person that disobeys
these laws deliberately attempts to destroy these laws and the society that has created them: However,
that whoever of you remains when he sees how we conduct our trials and manage the city in other
ways, has in fact come to an agreement with us to obey our instructions. (51e). If the decisions of the
city are not respected as honourable, the structure of that civilization will fall to pieces. If a person is
found violating the standards of his or her society and does not accept the consequences of his or her
actions there can t be a system of law that construct order. You must either persuade it or obey its
orders, and endure in silence whatever it instructs you to endure, whether blows or bonds, and if it
leads you into war or be wounded or killed you must obey. (51b)
Socrates adjusts these theories to the option to escape from his captors and abandon their conclusion
on his future. Crito begins to understand Socrates view in his suggestion. the only valid consideration
is whether we should be acting rightly in giving with the escape, or whether in truth we shall do wrong
in doing all this. (49c) Socrates concludes that if he followed Crito s advice he would be committing
several dishonest actions against his own society that were

Psychology Paper on My Mother´s Student
Not everyone has the luxury of good health and a good home life. When someone has either bad
health, or a bad home life, there is plenty of pity to be felt; but when those two factors are combined, it
paints a whole new picture. It is important to do everything in one s power to help them through the
tough time and make it as painless as possible. That is exactly what I did in the case of one of my
mother s students. She was having back surgery due to severe scoliosis, while also dealing with a
mother who was addicted to pain medication. This girl was very worried that after the surgery was
over and she was sent home, she would not be able to take her medication, fearing that her mother
would take it for herself. When I heard that this student had asked my mother to accompany her for
her procedure in Kansas City, I saw this as a golden opportunity. I could finally find out who this girl
was that my mother was so caught up with, staying up at night worrying about. I could finally
understand who I was sharing my mother with, and why. When I walked into the hospital room after
her procedure, my mother s student was on a myriad of powerful painkillers, much to her dismay. This
girl was terrified of taking the medication, because she did not want to end up like her mother. The girl
s mother also had Scoliosis, and had developed a dependency for her pain medication, leading up to
her developing a tolerance for it and taking her daughter s pills as well. My mother s

The Catholic Church Essay
The Catholic Church
The Catholic Church in the 20th Century underwent tremendous change, most significantly as a result
of the Second Vatican Council. This Council created an atmosphere of reform within the leading
theologians and the hierarchy of the Church. Consequently, when Pope Paul VI released his encyclical
Humanae Vitae, to many of the reformers it seemed to contradict the sentiment of the Council.
At the same time, though, there was a movement afoot to radically change the power structure of the
Church. Led by the same liberal theologians who took offense to the pro life policies laid out in
Humanae Vitae, the aim was to transition the Church from an authoritarian power structure to a more
democratic model. Humanae ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

kneeling before a table with his face in his hands. He was crying. Many people were in front of the

This image is very symbolic of the attempt to overthrow the teaching authority of the Pope taking
place in the Catholic Church following the historic release of Humanae Vitae, an important papal
encyclical following the religious revolution known as Vatican II. Unremarkable for its content, which
simply reaffirmed the current Church views on contraceptive use, the response to Humanae Vitae has
been shocking. The controversy over Humanae Vitae revealed a schism between liberal and
conservative elements in the Church. This rift included the Church s view of birth control, but on a
deeper level was about the right of the Pope to dictate the official Church teaching without following
the dictates of the laity, bishops, cardinals, or theologians. Leading the liberal, revolutionary forces
were the Church s leading theologians, and guiding the conservative, counter revolutionary side was
the Pope, primarily under Pope Paul VI.
To understand the response of theologians, it is important to look at the conditions surrounding the
encyclical s release. In 1959 Pope John XXIII announced that the

The War Of 1812 Was A Great Deal Of Curiosity
History has the tendency to cause a great deal of curiosity. For instance, someone may wonder what
the War of 1812 was and what difficulties the United States had in waging the War of 1812. They also
might ponder about why the War of 1812 was widely viewed as a victory for the United States or how
the war lead to an increasing pattern of diplomatic cooperation between the United States and Britain.
Our very own seventh president, Andrew Jackson, has meant a great deal in our history and some may
ask what it was about his presidency that distinguished him compared to his predecessors, or how he
refined the role of the president. Last but not least, there remains the important question about what
factors lead to the increasing production of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before getting to that point, we must first discuss the events that led to increasing tensions between
the United States and Britain. One of the difficulties that led to the War of 1812 was because of the
failure of economic sanctions. In 1810, congress had replaced the Nonintercourse Act with Macon s
Bill No. 2 in hopes of creating easier trading throughout the nations. Through this time, and with the
replacement of the Nonintercourse Act with Macon s Bill No. 2, Napoleon had promised to withdraw
decrees against U.S. shipping on the condition that if Britain should not follow suit, Madison would
have to force Britain to respect U.S. rights. Unfortunately, French seizures of U.S. ships continued and
by the time Napoleon s requests were clear, he had worsened Anglo American tensions. In November
of 1810, Madison had reimposed Nonintercourse against Britain which only caused the two nations to
have more conflicts. Another difficulty leading to the decision of war in 1812 was due to the frontier
and Indian resistance. Madison was also pushed toward a war against Britain because of mounting
frustrations in the South and West. Farm prices plunged when Jefferson s embargo shut off exports,
but stayed low after the embargo was lifted. Much of the blame for persistent agricultural depression
focused on the British and their hold on overseas trade after 1808. As we can see, Britain and the U.S.
had not been on good sides of the other. In fact, western

Fredrick, I enjoyed reading your discussion post and found it to be very well thought out. Right off the

Animal Farm By Vladimir Lenin
The novel Animal Farm is about a group of animals who rebel against the ranch owner and take over
the ranch. However, once the animals were at last all equal, the pigs started to gradually make the
farm a dictatorship by deceiving the other animals. The point where the free farm became just as
atrocious as the original was when the pigs begun to walk on two legs, which was incredibly
allegorical of the pigs becoming the evil humans that they swore never to become. Overall, the whole
story was a metaphor of the Russian Revolution. Much like it occurred in Animal Farm, the visions of
a better future dreamed about by Vladimir Lenin do not transpire. The philosophical goals and
outcomes of communist societies are drastically incongruent because humankind is avaricious. Once
absolute power is given to a person that does not genuinely believe in the purpose, that person often
becomes corrupt. In the case of Animal Farm, the pigs started to relish the luxuries of humans and
kept wanting more. To entirely understand why the philosophical goals and outcomes of communist
societies are drastically different, one must first understand the reasons for the original development of
socialist and communist philosophy in Europe, the events that were impetus behind fundamental
change in Russia, and the social, political, economic, and cultural factors which cause the practices of
newly formed political systems to deviate from purist philosophy. The reasons for the original
development of

Negative Speech In Nancy Cartwright s In Search Of Fellini
Nancy Cartwright came to Ohio University to introduce her debut film In Search of Fellini. She co
wrote and was executive producer on the film. Although Nancy has always considered herself a
filmmaker, here most notable work has been in the field of voice acting, best know for her character
Bart Simpson on The Simpsons. The movie In Search of Fellini is a coming of age drama based
primarily off Nancy Cartwright s pervious experiences in life, seeing how the movie loosely mimics a
portrait portrayal of herself. The speech took place on September 22, at the Schoonover Center. This
location was a very effective place to hold the event since Schoonover center is the home of the school
of Media Arts and Studies, a program Nancy briefly attended during her days at Ohio University. The
crowd was primarily composed of media studies students eager to hear a working professional s
outlook on making a movie. This was pretty powerful because she did not have to establish relevancy
to the crowd, the audience knew what the speech was going to include, and that is why they attended.
Her presentation overall was a persuasive speech. Persuasive speeches have a proposition, or
statement of purposed change (Hosek, 2017 P. 131). Nancy wanted to strengthen the beliefs and
attitudes the viewers held regarding looking at themselves as artists. The reason her speech is a
persuasive speech is Nancy intended to really motivate the audience to invest time in their own
visions. She

Essay about Examples of Celebrities Gone Wrong
Society as a whole has become ridiculous. The celebrities who we once looked up to are now setting a
bad example for the youth of today. Teenagers are so focused on being cool, standing out, and giving
into peer pressure that we forget the importance of respect for ourselves.
Many famous celebrities have changed completely going from innocent to out of control. We look at
their behavior on Instagram or on television and try to emulate them. A good example is teen pop
sensation Hannah Montana also known as Miley Cyrus. When I was in 6th grade, Hannah Montana

Learning about his touching background as a small Canadian boy who was discovered on YouTube at
the young age of 13 and seeing him grow up, it made me enjoy listening to him a lot more. Once he
got older, things took a huge turn. At the age of 17, he was caught with drugs, underage drinking, and
was associating himself with the wrong crowd. Surrounding himself in this type of environment made
him become more out of hand because no one was ever able control him. Even though he had a strict
mother, she was enabling him by making excuses for his actions. Justin s dad was even worse. Instead
of being a father figure, he took on the role as being a friend to Justin. He encouraged his bad behavior
by leading by example. It seemed like everyone in Justin s social circle were not looking out for him
but taking advantage or using him.
Being famous can easily change a down to earth person. As a pop star, you are always surrounded by
thousands of people who look up to you. That can put a lot of pressure on a person whether they want
to be a role model or not. Having to always meet your fans standards can be hard I agree, but your
standards shouldn t be low where you are making a fool out of yourself in front of your millions of
fans. I think these two popular pop stars are asking for a lot more trouble than they already are in and
will receive worse consequences in the end. I also think adults have a strong point

Another scientific discovery that the media of the times misinterpreted was the cure for scurvy. James
Lind first published his cure for scurvy in 1753; yet, It wasn t until 1795, 42 years later, that the
British Admiralty accepted Lind s recommendation. From the Journal of the History of Medicine and

Lind s theory, the British suffered serious consequence[s] of scurvy typified by the experience of the

We Were Here By Matt De La Pena
Not everyone is a criminal just because they have a criminal past. People can change through time and
experience. Individuals are capable to recognize this through pieces of writing which shows the
characters from the beginning through the end. In We Were Here written by Matt de La Pena in 2009,
there were three main characters which are Miguel, Mong, and Rondell. Miguel committed a horrible
crime and got sent to a group home for a year and was obligated to write in his journal, so the judge
can understand his way of his thinking. Miguel meets Rondell and Mong at the group home. Then
Mong decides to come up with a plan to escape the group home, run off to Mexico to be free with
Miguel and Rondell. The three boys did not know each other that well, they were basically strangers
who eventually became best friends threw their journey of escaping to Mexico. In We Were Here

the author of We Were Here shows symbolism which created the theme even though you might have a

My Long Term Goals Of The United States
While I was reading some quotes online, one quote stood out in particular. Don t ask me who Kelly
Rudolph is but when she said, Taking care of yourself makes you stronger for everyone in your life...
including you, she was speaking directly to me and the timing was impeccable. I want to be resilient
and capable of helping everyone around me. Well, maybe not everyone, but I want to do what I can.
Recently, I realized that I had to start taking care of well being and myself in order to care for others.
Getting to that point in my life where I am situated and stable so that it becomes easier for me to do
more for my family is my long term goal.
My parents were both born in Central America. They came to the United States por tierra which
literally translates to through land. This means they did not have the luxury to sit on a plane and were
considered aliens as soon as they stepped foot on American soil. In the U.S., they met through mutual
friends, hit it off and I was born a year later. December 16, 1996 was the exact day I became my father
s first born child and my mom s second baby girl. My mom s first daughter was born and bred in El
Salvador so I didn t know much about her growing up. About five years later, my younger twin sisters
were born in the Fairfax hospital. That s when we realized our apartment in Colonial Village was too

Though such events have occurred in the past. Today, one of Korea s and Japan s goals to claim the
Takeshima/Dokdo Island for their own is due to the abundant amount of natural resources that can be
found on and around the island. Though the island may not have enough fresh water for it to be
sustainable for a large nation to be residing on, the island does have a large amount of fish living in
the water around the island. It is already commonly known by many, that fishermen from both nations
are traveling towards the island in order to gain such marine resources. But because of such large
demand for fish located around the island, it caused conflicts between the two countries. In 1999, a
treaty was made that would help allow both countries to have fishing rights in certain areas. Even
though the two countries had the right to certain areas of water around the island, the ownership of the
seabed was not determined which led both Japan and Korea make multiple attempts to claim the area

length as many unique individuals, show varying traits and desires, strive to accomplish great (or not
so great) tasks. From imperialists, marauders, steam boat captains, or tribesman everyone succumbs to
the same basic human emotions. The men and women in heart of Darkness portray the true nature of
mankind.
One of the earliest ideas of human nature presented is the striving for power or control. As Marlow s

Anne Hutchinson s Ethical Role
Hutchinson held Bible study meetings for women that soon had great appeal to men as well.
Eventually, she went beyond Bible study to proclaiming boldly facets of her own theological
interpretations, some of which offended colony leadership. Great controversy ensued, and after an
arduous trial before a jury of officials from both government and clergy, eventually she was banished
from her colony. The assertive Anne was now becoming a religious leader to many, and this worried
John Winthrop, a long time opponent of Anne s views, and the newly appointed Governor of the
Massachusetts Bay colony. Winthrop recognized her as a threat to the authority of the men in power,

The Sled Reached The Bottom Of The Hill
The sled reached the bottom of the hill and slowly slid to a stop. Light snowflakes fell in dizzying
patterns around Jonas, blurring his already troubled vision. The ground seemed to sway, to turn, to
move. His head felt light, his limbs numb, and his body cold. He tried to stand, to get off of the sled,
but his body refused to listen.
Jonas felt something moving in his lap, and Gabe s blond head popped up in front of him, his features
fuzzy and his voice incoherent. Jonas tried to talk to him, to comfort him and tell him he was alright,
but even his voice was unresponsive. The words were right there, caught in his throat, and it brought
tears to his eyes that he could not let them out.
Gabe grabbed Jonas hand, and even though he knew the toddler was freezing, his touch felt fiery hot
on Jonas skin. I m dying thought Jonas, tears now freely rolling down his cheeks, only to freeze there
in the cold wind. He knew there was no escaping it, that his time had come.
He was glad that the memories would now go back to the community, and that the Giver would be
there to help the people cope with them.
He knew the Giver would teach them how do deal with emotions and memories and how to use them
in good ways. There was just something Jonas felt he should be concerned about, something important
to him.
A small hand came up and rested on Jonas tear soaked face. It was Gabe s. Jonas jumped, startled as
he remembered the toddler sitting with him on the sled. He began to panic,

A store in a Victorian brownstone building, for example, will exude images associated with the
building s architectural era, such as cozy, tastefully cluttered and comfortable. If your exterior
architecture is not projecting the right image, consider painting or re facing the storefront, adding or
removing some architectural elements in keeping with your image, or consulting a designer to totally
re engineer the storefront. The Store Sign The store sign is a vital element of the storefront, identifying
your store and beckoning the customer to take notice and stop. In realizing the value of a strong
storefront sign, many retailers are employing new design techniques which include projecting or
cantilevering the store sign beyond the lease line, adding motion, or using three dimensional lettering
and unique lighting applications to add depth to the sign. If your storefront sign is losing the battle for
visual dominance among neighbouring stores, consider re painting it or adding more colour, making it
bigger and bolder, incorporating your trademark, using new, more contemporary materials to create
your sign, and/or adding motion or lighting. Store Windows A store s exterior windows or glass
storefront provide an additional opportunity to reach out and grab the passing customer. Windows are
integral in creating a positive impression since they offer an opportunity to begin telling your store s

Disparity Between Males And Women In The Education System
Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) job industries are clearly a
minority group as opposed to males. And each of these statistics above has been used to analyze and
raise awareness about the discrepancy between genders within STEM occupations. However, there
seems to be lesser research on the education system that feeds into these work opportunities. It is vital
to note that the disadvantage for women in STEM starts well before they enter the workforce; it starts
when females are young, and still within the educational system. Additionally, the disparity between
males and females in STEM extends much further than the educational system, into popular culture.

Because there is less opportunity to switch between STEM industries, and because individuals cannot
enter the STEM industries without a strong, targeted scientific background, it is key to focus on
developing an effective educational system to feed women into the STEM workforce.
Granted, it must be noted that there is a high rate of women dropping out of scientific industries after
having graduated, or having worked in the field. Research has shown that 38% of women who earn
engineering degrees leave, or never enter that workforce (American Psychological Association, 2014).
However, it is vital to keep in mind that this statistic is 38% of the few women who graduate with an
engineering degree in the first place.
Not only are there few women earning STEM degrees, but there are also few female and university
science teachers. A study reported that in high schools across the country, about 44% of science
teachers were females (Bottia et al. 2015). Although this number seems to be very close to 50%, the
study explains that this small gender discrepancies among science teachers have a profound impact on
the number of students who decide to pursue a STEM degree. And that high schools which have more
female STEM teachers, largely raise the chances of producing women who will

A Causal Effect Of Mother s Marital Status On Child s...
Is there a causal effect of mother s marital status on child s birth weight? Childbearing among
unmarried women has been the subject of intense public policy and public health concern for decades,
much of it reflecting concerns about the impact of family structure and the economic security on
children s health and mental well being. This report examines dataset on births in NYC in 2001 to
establish if there is a causal effect between nonmarital birth and low birth weight. Let us first examine
the apparent effect of mother s marital status during childbearing on infants weight by running a
simple regression analysis where we use married as a dummy variable and child s birth weight as a
dependent variable. We have the following results: Birth weight (in grams) = 3193.471 +
94.994*married The model predicts that on average, the weight of the infant at birth to be 3193.471
grams if the mother is unmarried. Also, the model predicts the baby to be on average 95 grams heavier
if the mother is married. R squared of 0.007 or 0.7% tells us that only 0.7% of the variations in birth
weight can be explained by the variation in the marital status of the mother; 99.3% of the birth weight
variations are due to other factors. This model does show the correlation between the mother s marital
status and child s birth weight; however, it is impossible to say if there is a casual effect. The results
are statistically significant at p 0.001 or p 0.1%: there is 0.1% chance to observe the

The Main Concepts Of The Philosophy Of Liberalism
What is Liberalism?
INTRODUCTION
The term liberalism has a variety of meanings nowadays. Freedom or liberty for each and every
individual is the main aim of the philosophy of liberalism. Freedom had different concepts in different
periods of time in the history and therefore the programs of liberalism were also different in those time
periods. However the main aim always remained the same. Liberalism not only believed in human
nature was good but it also believed that humans were rational. It supposes that, as people have a
logical intellect, they have the ability to identify different challenges and problems and solve them.
This will thus improve the human condition systematically. Conservatism, on the other hand, is the

Analysis Of The Book Mississippi By Anne Moody
Young adult literature provides a guidance for young people during their nature and evolution towards
adulthood. Their themes help them deal with problems internally and externally with the people
around them. Their purpose is to push the main character outside of what is comfortable to them and
be honest with who they are and what is the problem they are facing at a young age. The book chosen
for a example of young adult literature is growing up in mississippi by Anne Moody, this is a historical

that means doing housework for Ms Burke. If she was male she would have been working in a labor
intensive job like being a steelworker threading nuts in a factory. That is the type of work that young
black males were able to do. As a young girl the she would have never even gotten a chance to prove
she was capable of doing the job because of the times then. Back then they thought a girl could never
last being in a steel factory because of how labor intensive it was. And also it was thought that a girl
could not survive being in the factory because steel is very poor to machine, meaning it is difficult to
remove material from a sample. What that means steel has to be molded into shapes and as a result
workers are faced with extremely high temperatures. Because of this it was deemed too much for a
girl to handle, there are fewer places to work and it is especially harder if that girl was colored. In
1950 s white families would hire black women to bring back a memory of having black women

african american women would stay instead the house. Their jobs were to be happy plump black
women would were happy to serve white people. They could not longer own slaves and they thought

In chronic inflammatory and granulomatous conditions, macrophage dysfunction plays a central role
in progression and maintenance of disease like in case of rheumatoid arthritis where persistent antigen
stimulation leads to accumulation of macrophages in the inflamed synovial membrane and at the
cartilage pannus junction [2]. This is evident by elevated levels of macrophage derived pro
inflammatory cytokines such as TNF α, IL 1β, IL 6 and inflammatory mediators such as COX 2 which
has a key role in the maintenance of inflammation by regulating the levels of prostaglandins [3, 4].
Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and glucocorticoids supplemented with biologics are
the conventional drug options for the treatment of chronic inflammation [5]. In contrast to their
efficiency in improving disease conditions, chronic and long term use of these drugs may lead to
serious adverse effects such as gastric ulceration, bleeding and emergence of opportunistic infection
due to immunosupression. In US, more than 16,000 deaths per year have been reported due to gastric
ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding associated with prolonged use of NSAIDs in arthritic patients [6].
Due to high cost and adverse events associated with conventional treatment, more than 70% of
patients with rheumatoid arthritis rely on complementary and alternative medicine with or without
conventional medicine [7].

Mask Explanation
Mask Explanation and/or Reflection There are multiple different symbols and hidden meanings on my

When one looks upon the mask, the first thing they may notice is the black line going down the
middle, separating the past from present. Another good distinction between the past and present are
the words written on the both halves of the mask. On the brighter, more positive side, there lie the
words don t look back, as if symbolizing the necessity to move forward in life. The other, more

The Most Traditional Side of Firearm Usage in America
For generations and generations guns have been the icon of america. Guns can protect you from
criminals and dangerous situations. They surround us everyday, whether it be law enforcement
personnel, in movies, or advertisements. Guns can not only be used to protect the individual but also
the population from a tyrannical government, which is exactly why the founding fathers were so intent
on making guns the forefront of what america is all about. The down side to having guns so relevant
in society is the fact that often it can fall into the wrong hands.
The vast majority of american households have at least one fire arm in the house. This is mostly
because there is more of a comfort that people feel when they believe they could fend of a possible
intruder or attacker. Those that do not have firearms trust that the police will take care of whatever
situation might present itself. The average response time for the police is on average roughly 10 15
minutes. The average response time for a .357 magnum is 1300 feet per second. So using a .357 to
shoot a target standing 1ft away is 900 times faster than waiting 15 minutes for a police officer. Many
people have perished waiting for police while their home has been burglarized. With some sort of
firearm in the house that burglar could have easily been eliminated. if those individuals would have
had a firearm in their possession chances are they would still be living. Criminals do not follow laws,

There will be 400 new hotel rooms built in Elizabeth Quay which is necessary to accommodate the

been many different opinions about whether or not Elizabeth Quay is a good idea. In July of 2012, it
was found that 41% of the population of Perth was for Elizabeth Quay, while 36% did not think it was
a good idea. Interestingly, it was found that liberal and green supporters were more in favour of the
project than labor supporters. Many of those not in favour of the project believe that it does little for
Australian heritage and that it isn t worth the disruption of traffic that would be caused by the closing
of Riverside drive during the building period. It is also thought that many people in Perth are in fear of
change; that they want it to stay the same sleepy town that it had been in the past. But in opposition to
this, supporters of the project have rightly stated that Perth is the fastest growing city in Australia, and
change is inevitable to support all the requirements of a large population. Negative impact 2: The
appeal of the areas around the Elizabeth Quay development may have been affected due to noise,
pollution, smoke and dust in the air and increased traffic congestion. This could affect the businesses
around these areas as they may not have gotten as many customers. Also, buildings that used to be in

Students who study art are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and 3 times
more likely to be awarded for school attendance ( 11 Facts about Arts in Education ). Music and art
are clearly not two subjects that schools today can afford to cut off funding for based on this evidence.
Music and art programs are responsible for increasing school attendance, which can lead to being one
of the most important things in a student s academic success in school. Students have to attend school
and be present in order to attain the information from their classes and teachers if they wish to
succeed. Better attendance means more students are in class, which means more students are getting
the information they need to excel from their teachers, which ultimately means better grades and test

Australia has a rich migration history starting with the first migrants being convicts transported from
Britain between 1788 and 1840. Free immigrants began arriving in the 1790 s (Walsh: 2001) The
Industrial revolution which caused wide spread poverty and unemployment in Britain, as well as the
demand for workers in the wool industry in Australia enticed more free settlers to Australia, followed

changed other than some of our morals. Back in the 1770 s many men in power were selfish and cared
for nothing but money. Granted, some people make the argument that America is still that way, but we
know it s not all true. Way back when, America was still mainly ruled by England, any war that
England fought in, America paid the price. These men in positions of power would force Americans to
pay overbearing taxes to cover the debts of wars and even sometimes just to get money from them. So,
here s how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5th, 1770 whenever a group of American colonists who
called themselves The Protestors started an uprising at the Customs House. The Protestors instigated
this Massacre by having taunted the British soldiers until one Protestor threw a snowball and hit
Private Hugh Montgomery. Once he was hit he opened fire on the unarmed colonists and his fellow
soldiers followed in his malicious shoes. In all, they killed five colonists, Crispius Attucks, Patrick
Carr, Samuel Gray, Samuel Maverick, and James Caldwell, and left 3 colonists injured. The trial for
the soldiers ended in December of 1770 where they were all found guilty of manslaughter and their
punishment was to have their thumbs branded with an M for murderer. This massacre made many
people consider the thought of freedom and some voiced this thought. The Sons of Liberty advertised
this massacre as a doorway to battle for American Liberty ( The Boston Massacre. ). Both of these
events played large roles in the start of The Revolutionary War. The colonists saw that England was
oppressing them and didn t want them to be independent. The colonists saw that England would do
about anything to make sure that they were in control of America and the colonists. Whenever the
Townshend act ended the colonists knew it wouldn t be the end of over taxation or violent murders.
The Boston Massacre showed the colonists that the English don t care who they hurt as long

Theme Of Belonging In The China Coin
Belonging is defined as acceptance and interconnection within social, cultural, historical and personal
contexts of the wider community. Experience, identity and connecting can enrich an individual s sense
of belonging. However language, memories and experience can act as a barrier to a sense of
belonging. This is explored in the text, The China Coin by Allan Baillie, through Leah s fluctuating
sense of belonging towards her Chinese identity and her mother. Similarly, in the article A sacrificed
shoulder, a loyalty pledged beyond words by Alice Pung, the persona s parents lack of knowledge of
Australian language, culture and history strengthens their Chinese identity. Furthermore, this idea is
also demonstrated in the poems Feliks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is explored in the poem Postcard where persona changes his attitude from I never Knew you to
intrinsic desire We will meet before we die . Through the persona s altering the use of personal
pronoun from I to We portrays eventually persona was attracted to Warsaw and decides to visit sooner
or later to experience his connection with his motherland, thus he accepted his polish identity to
experience his sense of belonging to his polish community. Moreover, A sacrifices shoulder loyalty
pledged beyond words exemplifies this idea through the use of assonance, I was lucky enough...to be
born here depicts the persona was born and brought up in the Australian community. The Australian
cultural and religion, education gradually helped her to accept her Australian identity, hence, creating
a sense of belonging to the Australian community. Similarly, in The China Coin in the beginning Leah
reflects, before the coin, the Chinese were them but as a result of her self conscious attitude and desire
to fit in she thinks She looks like me, The same size as me, the same smile as me. I could be her . The
use of self reflection and sibilance creates emphasis that Leah independently concluded that she has an
inextricable bond to China and the two halves of her heritage. These texts depict through the
acceptance of one s identity an individual can achieve a sense of

Compare And Contrast Hyde And Frankenstein
Dantès is also shown to be similar to Frankenstein and Jekyll, in that the three are unable to escape
from their creations. Dantès and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are the same
person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring himself to create a
female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankenstein s identity is called into question
here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to keep his word. The
Creature s words show a parallel between himself and Hyde and Frankenstein and Jekyll: You are my
creator, but I am your master obey!
The verb obey causes the creator s identities to be reduced to that of slaves: Frankenstein is forced ...

When Dantès is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the
Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry Jekyll
and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about, shunned, or
left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and Dantès, the Creature is never named. He is
constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through Frankenstein s
point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from Frankenstein s
perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel been written
from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as such a monster by
society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes him to be dehumanised
in a similar way to Dantès, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde, however, is named, allowing Jekyll s
view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more accepted by society. Hyde s naturalness can
said to be due to his evilness as he represents the original sin found inside all of us. Dantès and the
Creature are shunned by society when they are without a name because they are distanced from
society. Whilst Dantès distance is literal as he has been taken away from Marseille, the Creature s
distance remains figurative he follows Frankenstein and is in fact very close to society. His distance
stems from his hideousness and the absence of a name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his
own identity which comes as an incredibly hard task. Modern readers have felt sympathy for the
Creature in his struggle to be accepted: Shelley s use of his point of view in the novel aids this,
however at the time of writing, readers generally viewed the Creature as a

Pros And Cons Guadagnino
Call Me By Your Name is a coming of age film by Lucas Guadagnino, following the romance of 17
years old Elio, and Oliver, his father s American graduate student. Is an exploration of desire and the
power of your own impulses towards one and other. Desire was not just a theme, is the narrative that
drives the movie. This is conveyed by Guadagnino s attention to the setting, his camera style and
philosophy of not cutting away from the camera, even when is uncomfortable. Guadagnino is a master
sensualist, crafting images we imagine we can taste, touch, and smell. The setting, northern Italy 1983,
plays a huge role in his storytelling and allows the viewer to get attached to Elio s emotional arch and
path to adulthood by transporting you to that time effortlessly. In part accomplished with the gorgeous
cinematography by Sayombhu Mukdeeprom who beautifully captures the attractive climate and the
permanently sun bleached characters that inhabit it. Call Me By Your Name is filled with amazing
shots ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the credits start rolling, the camera doesn t look away. A few scenes before, the viewers
get to witness how his father, played by Michael Stuhlbarg, delivered a heartbreaking and
compassionate speech: We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster, that we go
bankrupt by the age of thirty and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to make
yourself feel nothing so as not to feel anything ― what a waste! by following his father s advice, he
sits through the sadness and faces what he experienced during that summer. This philosophy is seen
throughout the movie, by not cutting away and letting the shot linger we ve never been spared Elio s
discomfort, so near the end, the pain and the beauty of what he s lived hits us in a profound, personal
way. The film ends with a small homage to Boyhood, Elio glances to the camera and then the screen
fades to

James Bulger Case Summary
In the James Bulger case many witnesses were reluctant to speak up until after the child was found
dead. According to The Sun (2018), The killers walked James for two and half miles and were spotted
by 38 people some of whom challenged the pair. These ten year old boys were claiming James as their
little brother or James was lost and they were trying to help him find his mum when questions came
about. According to The Sun (2018), The pair took James to a railway line and tortured, beat and
sexually assaulted him. They poured modelling paint into his eyes, stoned him and clubbed him with
bricks, before leaving him on the railway line to be hit by a train. After killing the tot they left his

You would be surprised as to how many family abductions take place in a year. The reasons including:
Punishing the other parent, forcing continued interactions with missing parents, or from fear of losing
rights or custody of the child. The rarest case would be the abduction of a child to protect them from
the neglector or abuser. When the parent is not considered a suspect, the investigation becomes fair
play as to who can be the potential suspect at this point anyone can be a suspect. As for the parent,
their emotional well being is completely gone! Parents tend to blame themselves for the abduction of
their child. In many cases parents tend to split due to the massive pain that is left behind. According to
The Sun(2018), In January 2018 Denise Fergus told the Mail on Sunday: There aren t the words to

Essay On Is Canada A Just Society
Canada as a Just Society
Canada as a just society has changed a lot throughout the years, Canada has and still is a
discriminative place but I believe it has definitely improved but there are still changes that need to be
made. However,As said Canada has changed for the better andit has improved a lot since her older
days, and not everything will always be perfect, a conflict will always arise and maybe we cannot
always solve the problem. Canadian identity has been working towards a just society but it has been
negatively affected by how they have treated minorities in World War One, with aboriginals in
residential schools, the enactment of the War Measures Act in a time of peace and the continued
LGBTQ discrimination.
Canada before working towards becoming a just society was a very discriminative place. During the
events of World War One,WWI black and Chinese Canadians were prevented from joining the war
along with aboriginals. Women were treated the same at the time, it was common for most women to
stay at home wives and take care of the children. This was the stereotypical family at the time and was
believed to be the ideal family too. Canadians thought poorly of minorities and even claimed it was to
keep them safe, the aboriginals were an example, Canadians claimed the enemies might believe that
they are savages which was a reflection of how they truly felt. Minorities were clearly being treated
worse than the majority, they were seen as inferior and only good for

Human Consciousness Essay
Human Consciousness
Erich Fromm and Shirley Jackson have both written wonderful true life affecting essays and should be
awarded for them. I appreciate both stories and feel they both set tales to learn from and live by. As a
combined theme for both I ld say human consciousness is more then a gift . And read on to see what I
mean.
In Erich Fromm we notice a compassionate concern for the unfolding of life. Fromm claims that the
growing process of the emergence of the individual from his original ties, a process which we may call
individuation, seems to have reached its peak in modern history in the centuries between the
Reformation and the present. Of course, the beginning of change is not the cause of all our problems
but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being set in your own way doesn t necessary have to be bad? Just imagine, if the tradition was
something more positive that promote life rather than destroy it. Traditions, rituals are made from
rules established. The rules could be rules of a home, a city, county, state or nation. Then again
imagination can do wonders and living life is just part of nature. And that s where Fromm brings our
attention to living life . He states that although the animals are living within nature, they at the same
time going above it and are conscious of themselves. Which I think is very true. Setting themselves
over against nature they have lost their unity and feel unbearably alone, lost, and powerless. This same
process can be seen in the development of individual human beings. Each of us initially feels at one
with our environment, but then becomes gradually more aware of our individuality. Fromm
determines, therefore, that on the one side of the growing process of individuation is the growth of self
strength, but on the other side of this process is a growing aloneness.
Then again with Jackson s story one has to gaze from a distance. At first glance, one would think by
reading The Lottery, that it was to tell of someone s great chance of fortune. After all it begins with the
setting of a beautiful day. The

  • 2. French Empire Research Paper The French Empire is the greatest empire in the world because at the peak of its reign, the French had conquered over 4.9 million square miles, which is 1/10 of the all the land on Earth. Because of this, architecture, cuisine, and culture got spread all over the world. The French Empire reigned for 428 years and that s just another reason why it was the greatest of all time. The French Empire really started on July 21, 1605 when Port Royal was founded where nowadays Nova Scotia, Canada is located. Nova Scotia actually means New Scotland in Latin. Samual De Chaplain founded Quebec in 1608, and Quebec later became the capital of the second biggest country in the world. In Canada, trading furs is how most people made money. They began making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the things they made, we still use today. They were the people who invented canned food. There is a story behind it also. So the army was struggling to keep people alive while they were off to war while it was freezing cold outside and Napoleon made a reward of 12.000 franks for the person who could make something that could preserve food. So Nicolas Appert ended up inventing the canning jars sealed with wax. It also a french person who figured out how to preserve milk. They found out that if you heat milk up and then cool it fast and package it. It was Louis Pasteur who discovered how to pasteurize the milk. In 1806, a doctor discovered the stethoscope. At the time, this new way was the only way to identify problems inside the body without actually cutting the patient up. The best of all, Mayo. A French chef made mayo by mixing oil and eggs. He did this because they had just won a battle and the army was going to celebrate and there wasn t enough cream on the island, so he tried something new and got mayonnaise. The name Mayonnaise actually comes from the island port that it was made on, Port Mayon. The French did pretty good in World War One. They didn t trust the Germans to start with, so that gave them reasons to join the war. They started with around 40 million people as a country and a little over a million for an army. The French made it through the World War One with some casualties, but they did last through the whole war. • 3. Personality Changes From Infancy And Childhood Adulthood Personality is conceptualised as the combination of a person s independent experiences as well as their behaviours and actions relating to those behaviours (Kernberg, 2016). These experiences and actions result in multiple traits and characteristics that modern society uses to define a person s identity. This essay explores how personality changes from infancy and childhood to adulthood. It will be argued that personality has the ability to be altered due to range of factors relating to increasing age and an individual s surrounding environment and experiences. Discussion of a range of personality theories and examples of radical personality differences will further show that personalities can be changed through out life. A well known example of a personality change is known in modern society as a midlife crisis and is found to occur amongst males aged thirty five to sixty, more commonly referred to as middle aged. A midlife crisis is often characterised by a sudden and drastic change in behaviour due to an event or abrupt realisation. The concept of crisis directly relates to the differing nature of one s personality, which includes a change in morals, relationships, values and principles (Brim, 1976). It is proposed that this change may occur due it being the first time a man has reflected on his life and achievements and further compares them to the goals he had as a young male (Tamir, 1982). Brim s Theories of the male mid life crisis (1976) concludes that there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Brief Note On The Japanese Religion Of Shintoism Larry Guindine World History Mr. Alschen September 8, 2014 Documentary Questions: 1. People tended to worship nature gods such as spirits of the earth, sky and river. As the human communities matured and developed, local, tribal and ancestral spirits became the center of focus in their beliefs and religious life. This leads to inferring that people did not understand natural phenomena and thought it was a punishment for their behavior from the deities. People thought natural phenomena was able to change based on their relationships with the deities. 2. People created a sense of community and working together. Eventually, some people began to question their belief systems through communication and realized that they can focus more on relationships among human beings. This led to both uniformity, dispute and separation, among people who had different views on religion and human interaction. 3. The Japanese religion of Shintoism is most closely associated. The emperor even had to renounce his divinity of the descendant of the sun line at the end of World War II since this religion associated itself with the whole population of Japan, not just the royalty. To this day, many Shinto rituals are practiced in Japan, such as wedding ceremonies at shrines and methods of protecting the people from pollution, such as cleansing themselves with water before entering the gates of a Shinto shrine, are still practiced. 4. • 5. Community Analysis for Homeless Families Essay Listening to the evening news, it takes little imagination to figure out many families are in trouble. The National Coalition for the Homeless estimate that on any given night in the United States of America, there are seven hundred thousand people on the streets and without shelter (National Coalition for the Homeless, 2010). Within this analysis for the homeless, let us consider families, residing in Independence, Missouri. The problem outlined, in an article by James Evertt, in the Independence Examiner, quotes Larry Blick, a former Independence City Manager, putting the number of homeless students in the district at five hundred sixteen. Evertt goes on to share a comment by, Cathy Asher, shelter director of Salvation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many cities have outlawed begging and loitering in public areas. She quoted the New York Times as stating that the concern over tourism, sanitation, and business as the force behind criminalization of homelessness. Having a large homeless population gives the impression that the area is unsafe and negatively affects the quality of life (More, 2010). Independence needs to be proactive and do more to insure that there are no homeless families within our city, not by making homelessness illegal but by providing safe affordable homes and programs to help families regain their status as tax paying citizens. The Mills Family Transitional Living Centers The Mills Family Transitional Living Centers would place homeless people in foreclosed homes. To be eligible for a home, the applicant, a family or single person, would need to submit a homeless letter and a history of homelessness. The history would be important as chronic homelessness may indicate counseling or evidence that a mental evaluation may be in order. Applicants that are able to benefit from job training would receive reduced rent and utilities during the training. The same reductions would apply for college classes. Work on their home or on another home in the program would earn points. Training classes on home maintenance and upkeep could earn points. Attending budgeting classes or providing childcare for ... • 6. Similarities And Differences Between Gilgamesh And Achilles Each mythological hero by all accounts seems to be on a quest searching for what he desire most on the planet. The same can be said for the two heroes I chose, Gilgamesh and Achilles. Gilgamesh s greatest fear was dying, while Achilles fear was his legacy lost and overlooked. Although their wishes differ, their quest share numerous similarities. In the end it all comes down to the same thing. Both Gilgamesh and Achilles wanted immortality regardless of anything else, but each in his own particular manner. In spite of the fact that immortality has a different meaning for Gilgamesh, as it does for Achilles, each choice and additionally every one of the sacrifices they make, all depend on their fear of dying and death. Both Gilgamesh and Achilles actions showed insight into their cultures. It somewhat proved an answer to the way they did things and why they. First, Gilgamesh and Achilles are two epic heroes who share some differences. Among the differences there are also some similarities. Achilles and Gilgamesh were to a great degree different with respect to their identity and how they reacted to death. Achilles was a warrior and Gilgamesh was a ruler, each all around respected and feared in their role. They both demonstrated fearlessness and toughness in their parts, yet their responses to the passing of their best friend varied greatly. Combined Achilles and Gilgamesh participated in many battles, as discussed in Homer s Iliad and the Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Brief Note On The Medical Insurance Specialists ANALYSIS Jim has reorganized the call center by integrating the senior insurance specialists with the medical insurance specialists instead of having them divided separately into two groups. The reason for this change is for the senior insurance specialists to offer guidance to the medical insurance specialists. Jim requests Dave s OD intervention to address the main problem of missing time commitments. There are many cases to be worked and complex cases are time consuming. If a case does not have to be escalated, it can be processed faster. The medical insurance specialists cannot keep up with the volume of cases and calls to physicians which slow down the process. Also, the majority of cases are detained with the medical insurance specialists. Hiring additional staff is not in the budget. Jim thinks that the senior insurance consultants could help the medical insurance specialists because they are more knowledgeable. Dave requests to observe employees at work prior to the employee meeting. Dave observes Rosie, a medical insurance specialist, who has cases backed up and calls on hold which puts her in limbo. Rosie does not want to escalate her cases because she fears losing her job based on the fact that previous employees were outsourced. She resents the involvement of senior insurance consultants interfering in her work. Next, Dave observes Carlos, a senior insurance consultant, who processes complex cases that are very time consuming. Carlos perceives the transition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay about Socrates Argument with Crito Socrates Argument with Crito Socrates has presented a period of questions and answers through dialogue with Crito to examine if he going into exile will damage his reputation. Socrates questions and answers with Crito establishes that a person must decide whether the society he or she lives has a just reasoning behind it s own standards of right and wrong and that a person must have pride in the life that he or she leads. By confirming these two concepts through questions, Socrates attempted to prove to his companion Crito, that the choice that he has made is just: I am the kind of man who listens only to the argument that on reflection seems best to me. I cannot, now that this fate has come upon me, discard the arguments I used; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By living in Athen for 70 years Socrates has agreed to have faith in the cities virtues and in the force of decisions that are imposed upon him and as a citizen he respects them. Any person that disobeys these laws deliberately attempts to destroy these laws and the society that has created them: However, that whoever of you remains when he sees how we conduct our trials and manage the city in other ways, has in fact come to an agreement with us to obey our instructions. (51e). If the decisions of the city are not respected as honourable, the structure of that civilization will fall to pieces. If a person is found violating the standards of his or her society and does not accept the consequences of his or her actions there can t be a system of law that construct order. You must either persuade it or obey its orders, and endure in silence whatever it instructs you to endure, whether blows or bonds, and if it leads you into war or be wounded or killed you must obey. Crito begins to understand Socrates view in his suggestion. the only valid consideration is whether we should be acting rightly in giving with the escape, or whether in truth we shall do wrong in doing all this. • 9. Psychology Paper on My Mother´s Student Not everyone has the luxury of good health and a good home life. When someone has either bad health, or a bad home life, there is plenty of pity to be felt; but when those two factors are combined, it paints a whole new picture. It is important to do everything in one s power to help them through the tough time and make it as painless as possible. That is exactly what I did in the case of one of my mother s students. She was having back surgery due to severe scoliosis, while also dealing with a mother who was addicted to pain medication. This girl was very worried that after the surgery was over and she was sent home, she would not be able to take her medication, fearing that her mother would take it for herself. When I heard that this student had asked my mother to accompany her for her procedure in Kansas City, I saw this as a golden opportunity. I could finally find out who this girl was that my mother was so caught up with, staying up at night worrying about. I could finally understand who I was sharing my mother with, and why. When I walked into the hospital room after her procedure, my mother s student was on a myriad of powerful painkillers, much to her dismay. This girl was terrified of taking the medication, because she did not want to end up like her mother. The girl s mother also had Scoliosis, and had developed a dependency for her pain medication, leading up to her developing a tolerance for it and taking her daughter s pills as well. My mother s ... • 11. The Catholic Church Essay The Catholic Church The Catholic Church in the 20th Century underwent tremendous change, most significantly as a result of the Second Vatican Council. This Council created an atmosphere of reform within the leading theologians and the hierarchy of the Church. Consequently, when Pope Paul VI released his encyclical Humanae Vitae, to many of the reformers it seemed to contradict the sentiment of the Council. At the same time, though, there was a movement afoot to radically change the power structure of the Church. Led by the same liberal theologians who took offense to the pro life policies laid out in Humanae Vitae, the aim was to transition the Church from an authoritarian power structure to a more democratic model. Many people were in front of the house; some were throwing stones, while others were cursing him and using foul language. (McInerny 17 18) This image is very symbolic of the attempt to overthrow the teaching authority of the Pope taking place in the Catholic Church following the historic release of Humanae Vitae, an important papal encyclical following the religious revolution known as Vatican II. Unremarkable for its content, which simply reaffirmed the current Church views on contraceptive use, the response to Humanae Vitae has been shocking. The controversy over Humanae Vitae revealed a schism between liberal and conservative elements in the Church. This rift included the Church s view of birth control, but on a deeper level was about the right of the Pope to dictate the official Church teaching without following the dictates of the laity, bishops, cardinals, or theologians. Leading the liberal, revolutionary forces were the Church s leading theologians, and guiding the conservative, counter revolutionary side was the Pope, primarily under Pope Paul VI. To understand the response of theologians, it is important to look at the conditions surrounding the encyclical s release. In 1959 Pope John XXIII announced that the ... • 13. The War Of 1812 Was A Great Deal Of Curiosity History has the tendency to cause a great deal of curiosity. For instance, someone may wonder what the War of 1812 was and what difficulties the United States had in waging the War of 1812. They also might ponder about why the War of 1812 was widely viewed as a victory for the United States or how the war lead to an increasing pattern of diplomatic cooperation between the United States and Britain. Our very own seventh president, Andrew Jackson, has meant a great deal in our history and some may ask what it was about his presidency that distinguished him compared to his predecessors, or how he refined the role of the president. Last but not least, there remains the important question about what factors lead to the increasing production of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before getting to that point, we must first discuss the events that led to increasing tensions between the United States and Britain. One of the difficulties that led to the War of 1812 was because of the failure of economic sanctions. In 1810, congress had replaced the Nonintercourse Act with Macon s Bill No. 2 in hopes of creating easier trading throughout the nations. Through this time, and with the replacement of the Nonintercourse Act with Macon s Bill No. 2, Napoleon had promised to withdraw decrees against U.S. shipping on the condition that if Britain should not follow suit, Madison would have to force Britain to respect U.S. rights. Unfortunately, French seizures of U.S. ships continued and by the time Napoleon s requests were clear, he had worsened Anglo American tensions. In November of 1810, Madison had reimposed Nonintercourse against Britain which only caused the two nations to have more conflicts. Another difficulty leading to the decision of war in 1812 was due to the frontier and Indian resistance. Madison was also pushed toward a war against Britain because of mounting frustrations in the South and West. Farm prices plunged when Jefferson s embargo shut off exports, but stayed low after the embargo was lifted. Much of the blame for persistent agricultural depression focused on the British and their hold on overseas trade after 1808. As we can see, Britain and the U.S. had not been on good sides of the other. In fact, western ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Animal Farm By Vladimir Lenin The novel Animal Farm is about a group of animals who rebel against the ranch owner and take over the ranch. However, once the animals were at last all equal, the pigs started to gradually make the farm a dictatorship by deceiving the other animals. The point where the free farm became just as atrocious as the original was when the pigs begun to walk on two legs, which was incredibly allegorical of the pigs becoming the evil humans that they swore never to become. Overall, the whole story was a metaphor of the Russian Revolution. Much like it occurred in Animal Farm, the visions of a better future dreamed about by Vladimir Lenin do not transpire. The philosophical goals and outcomes of communist societies are drastically incongruent because humankind is avaricious. Once absolute power is given to a person that does not genuinely believe in the purpose, that person often becomes corrupt. In the case of Animal Farm, the pigs started to relish the luxuries of humans and kept wanting more. To entirely understand why the philosophical goals and outcomes of communist societies are drastically different, one must first understand the reasons for the original development of socialist and communist philosophy in Europe, the events that were impetus behind fundamental change in Russia, and the social, political, economic, and cultural factors which cause the practices of newly formed political systems to deviate from purist philosophy. The reasons for the original development of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Negative Speech In Nancy Cartwright s In Search Of Fellini Nancy Cartwright came to Ohio University to introduce her debut film In Search of Fellini. She co wrote and was executive producer on the film. Although Nancy has always considered herself a filmmaker, here most notable work has been in the field of voice acting, best know for her character Bart Simpson on The Simpsons. The movie In Search of Fellini is a coming of age drama based primarily off Nancy Cartwright s pervious experiences in life, seeing how the movie loosely mimics a portrait portrayal of herself. The speech took place on September 22, at the Schoonover Center. This location was a very effective place to hold the event since Schoonover center is the home of the school of Media Arts and Studies, a program Nancy briefly attended during her days at Ohio University. The crowd was primarily composed of media studies students eager to hear a working professional s outlook on making a movie. This was pretty powerful because she did not have to establish relevancy to the crowd, the audience knew what the speech was going to include, and that is why they attended. Her presentation overall was a persuasive speech. Persuasive speeches have a proposition, or statement of purposed change (Hosek, 2017 P. 131). • 17. Essay about Examples of Celebrities Gone Wrong Society as a whole has become ridiculous. The celebrities who we once looked up to are now setting a bad example for the youth of today. Teenagers are so focused on being cool, standing out, and giving into peer pressure that we forget the importance of respect for ourselves. Many famous celebrities have changed completely going from innocent to out of control. We look at their behavior on Instagram or on television and try to emulate them. A good example is teen pop sensation Hannah Montana also known as Miley Cyrus. When I was in 6th grade, Hannah Montana was the big pop star at the time looked up to by kids. Once he got older, things took a huge turn. At the age of 17, he was caught with drugs, underage drinking, and was associating himself with the wrong crowd. Surrounding himself in this type of environment made him become more out of hand because no one was ever able control him. Even though he had a strict mother, she was enabling him by making excuses for his actions. Justin s dad was even worse. Instead of being a father figure, he took on the role as being a friend to Justin. He encouraged his bad behavior by leading by example. It seemed like everyone in Justin s social circle were not looking out for him but taking advantage or using him. Being famous can easily change a down to earth person. As a pop star, you are always surrounded by thousands of people who look up to you. That can put a lot of pressure on a person whether they want to be a role model or not. Having to always meet your fans standards can be hard I agree, but your standards shouldn t be low where you are making a fool out of yourself in front of your millions of fans. I think these two popular pop stars are asking for a lot more trouble than they already are in and will receive worse consequences in the end. I also think adults have a strong point ... Don t ask me who Kelly Rudolph is but when she said, Taking care of yourself makes you stronger for everyone in your life... including you, she was speaking directly to me and the timing was impeccable. I want to be resilient and capable of helping everyone around me. Well, maybe not everyone, but I want to do what I can. Recently, I realized that I had to start taking care of well being and myself in order to care for others. Getting to that point in my life where I am situated and stable so that it becomes easier for me to do more for my family is my long term goal. My parents were both born in Central America. They came to the United States por tierra which literally translates to through land. This means they did not have the luxury to sit on a plane and were considered aliens as soon as they stepped foot on American soil. In the U.S., they met through mutual friends, hit it off and I was born a year later. December 16, 1996 was the exact day I became my father s first born child and my mom s second baby girl. Research has shown that 38% of women who earn engineering degrees leave, or never enter that workforce (American Psychological Association, 2014). Childbearing among unmarried women has been the subject of intense public policy and public health concern for decades, much of it reflecting concerns about the impact of family structure and the economic security on children s health and mental well being. This report examines dataset on births in NYC in 2001 to establish if there is a causal effect between nonmarital birth and low birth weight. Let us first examine the apparent effect of mother s marital status during childbearing on infants weight by running a simple regression analysis where we use married as a dummy variable and child s birth weight as a dependent variable. We have the following results: Birth weight (in grams) = 3193.471 + 94.994*married The model predicts that on average, the weight of the infant at birth to be 3193.471 grams if the mother is unmarried. Also, the model predicts the baby to be on average 95 grams heavier if the mother is married. R squared of 0.007 or 0.7% tells us that only 0.7% of the variations in birth weight can be explained by the variation in the marital status of the mother; 99.3% of the birth weight variations are due to other factors. This model does show the correlation between the mother s marital status and child s birth weight; however, it is impossible to say if there is a casual effect. In chronic inflammatory and granulomatous conditions, macrophage dysfunction plays a central role in progression and maintenance of disease like in case of rheumatoid arthritis where persistent antigen stimulation leads to accumulation of macrophages in the inflamed synovial membrane and at the cartilage pannus junction [2]. This is evident by elevated levels of macrophage derived pro inflammatory cytokines such as TNF α, IL 1β, IL 6 and inflammatory mediators such as COX 2 which has a key role in the maintenance of inflammation by regulating the levels of prostaglandins [3, 4]. Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and glucocorticoids supplemented with biologics are the conventional drug options for the treatment of chronic inflammation [5]. In contrast to their efficiency in improving disease conditions, chronic and long term use of these drugs may lead to serious adverse effects such as gastric ulceration, bleeding and emergence of opportunistic infection due to immunosupression. In US, more than 16,000 deaths per year have been reported due to gastric ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding associated with prolonged use of NSAIDs in arthritic patients [6]. Guns can not only be used to protect the individual but also the population from a tyrannical government, which is exactly why the founding fathers were so intent on making guns the forefront of what america is all about. The down side to having guns so relevant in society is the fact that often it can fall into the wrong hands. The vast majority of american households have at least one fire arm in the house. This is mostly because there is more of a comfort that people feel when they believe they could fend of a possible intruder or attacker. But in opposition to this, supporters of the project have rightly stated that Perth is the fastest growing city in Australia, and change is inevitable to support all the requirements of a large population. Negative impact 2: The appeal of the areas around the Elizabeth Quay development may have been affected due to noise, pollution, smoke and dust in the air and increased traffic congestion. This could affect the businesses around these areas as they may not have gotten as many customers. Also, buildings that used to be in prime positions (facing the river) will have lost value due ... Much too often in America today, modern music and art programs in schools are perceived to many as extracurricular activities rather than important subjects that are vital to a students learning and skill development. The truth of the matter is that encouraging music and art education in public schools has a much larger impact on student s grades, academic performance, and the economy than the majority people realize. Within the next year city school budgets will be dropping by twenty five percent, and despite the fact that music and art programs have been showing a dramatic contribution to student s learning, this substantial drop in funding for the programs will lead to no dedicated money for art or music programs (Mezzacappa). Students who study art are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and 3 times more likely to be awarded for school attendance ( 11 Facts about Arts in Education ). Music and art are clearly not two subjects that schools today can afford to cut off funding for based on this evidence. Music and art programs are responsible for increasing school attendance, which can lead to being one of the most important things in a student s academic success in school. Students have to attend school and be present in order to attain the information from their classes and teachers if they wish to succeed. Better attendance means more students are in class, which means more students are getting the information they need to excel from their teachers, which ultimately means better grades and test scores for schools. As of today, arts are defined as core subjects in only twenty six states in America (Mandel). If only twenty six states are treating art education as a core subject, that means that twenty four states are currently neglecting art programs and not considering them important to their student s education. If more states are educated on the importance of art programs for young students, and the arts are defined as core subjects nationally, then there will be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Free immigrants began arriving in the 1790 s (Walsh: 2001) The Industrial revolution which caused wide spread poverty and unemployment in Britain, as well as the demand for workers in the wool industry in Australia enticed more free settlers to Australia, followed by the Gold rush in the 1850 s of which the largest group of immigrants were the Chinese. They worried about over taxation, jobs, money, their children, and many other things. Things haven t really changed other than some of our morals. Back in the 1770 s many men in power were selfish and cared for nothing but money. Granted, some people make the argument that America is still that way, but we know it s not all true. Way back when, America was still mainly ruled by England, any war that England fought in, America paid the price. The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5th, 1770 whenever a group of American colonists who called themselves The Protestors started an uprising at the Customs House. The Protestors instigated this Massacre by having taunted the British soldiers until one Protestor threw a snowball and hit Private Hugh Montgomery. Once he was hit he opened fire on the unarmed colonists and his fellow soldiers followed in his malicious shoes. In all, they killed five colonists, Crispius Attucks, Patrick Carr, Samuel Gray, Samuel Maverick, and James Caldwell, and left 3 colonists injured. The trial for the soldiers ended in December of 1770 where they were all found guilty of manslaughter and their punishment was to have their thumbs branded with an M for murderer. This massacre made many people consider the thought of freedom and some voiced this thought. The Sons of Liberty advertised this massacre as a doorway to battle for American Liberty ( The Boston Massacre. ). Both of these events played large roles in the start of The Revolutionary War. The colonists saw that England was oppressing them and didn t want them to be independent. The colonists saw that England would do about anything to make sure that they were in control of America and the colonists. Dantès and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are the same person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring himself to create a female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankenstein s identity is called into question here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to keep his word. When Dantès is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry Jekyll and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about, shunned, or left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and Dantès, the Creature is never named. He is constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through Frankenstein s point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from Frankenstein s perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel been written from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as such a monster by society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes him to be dehumanised in a similar way to Dantès, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde, however, is named, allowing Jekyll s view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more accepted by society. Hyde s naturalness can said to be due to his evilness as he represents the original sin found inside all of us. Dantès and the Creature are shunned by society when they are without a name because they are distanced from society. Whilst Dantès distance is literal as he has been taken away from Marseille, the Creature s distance remains figurative he follows Frankenstein and is in fact very close to society. His distance stems from his hideousness and the absence of a name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his own identity which comes as an incredibly hard task. Modern readers have felt sympathy for the Creature in his struggle to be accepted: Shelley s use of his point of view in the novel aids this, however at the time of writing, readers generally viewed the Creature as a ... Essay On Is Canada A Just Society Canada as a Just Society Canada as a just society has changed a lot throughout the years, Canada has and still is a discriminative place but I believe it has definitely improved but there are still changes that need to be made. However,As said Canada has changed for the better andit has improved a lot since her older days, and not everything will always be perfect, a conflict will always arise and maybe we cannot always solve the problem. Canadian identity has been working towards a just society but it has been negatively affected by how they have treated minorities in World War One, with aboriginals in residential schools, the enactment of the War Measures Act in a time of peace and the continued LGBTQ discrimination. Canada before working towards becoming a just society was a very discriminative place. During the events of World War One,WWI black and Chinese Canadians were prevented from joining the war along with aboriginals. Women were treated the same at the time, it was common for most women to stay at home wives and take care of the children. This was the stereotypical family at the time and was believed to be the ideal family too. Canadians thought poorly of minorities and even claimed it was to keep them safe, the aboriginals were an example, Canadians claimed the enemies might believe that they are savages which was a reflection of how they truly felt. In Erich Fromm we notice a compassionate concern for the unfolding of life. Fromm claims that the growing process of the emergence of the individual from his original ties, a process which we may call individuation, seems to have reached its peak in modern history in the centuries between the Reformation and the present. The rules could be rules of a home, a city, county, state or nation. Then again imagination can do wonders and living life is just part of nature. And that s where Fromm brings our attention to living life . He states that although the animals are living within nature, they at the same time going above it and are conscious of themselves. Which I think is very true. Setting themselves over against nature they have lost their unity and feel unbearably alone, lost, and powerless. This same process can be seen in the development of individual human beings. Each of us initially feels at one with our environment, but then becomes gradually more aware of our individuality. Fromm determines, therefore, that on the one side of the growing process of individuation is the growth of self strength, but on the other side of this process is a growing aloneness.
