Five Steps Of Satire
In today s society, it is very common for people to make fun of certain events or people online or
through media, known as satire. Satire can be defined as, the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the
like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice ( satire ) to expose the faults of humanity, institution or
society. Satirists use literary techniques and elements of satire in order to communicate a message to
the reader. That message can be conveyed through the five steps of satire. First is to determine the
object of satire; this usually pokes fun at someone or something resulting in laughter. Next, determine
the underlying message the author is trying to get across. Then, figure out the type of irony which is
being used: situational, verbal,

The Problem with Immgration to the United States Essay
The Problem with Immgration to the United States
The first move stopping immigration decided by Congress was a law in 1862 restricting American
vessels to transport Chinese immigrants to the U.S. The Alien Contract Labor Laws of 1885, 1887,
1888, and 1891 restricted the immigration to the U.S. of people entering the country to work under
contracts made before their arrival. Alien skilled laborers, under these laws, were allowed to enter the
U.S. to work in new industries. By this time anti immigrant felling rose with the flood of immigrants
and in this period the anti Catholic, anti foreign political party the Know Nothings, was already born.

which can expand businesses to other fields of the world. Also giving people a more understanding of
other cultures. Lowers the cost of products produced in the U.S. that we buy. If the businesses can
produce products and services at a low price keeping there overhead low, then we as a consumer will
also pay a lower price. Most illegals are skilled workers and helps run the economy. Other countries
economies are also being helped. The workers bring money to their families out side of the U.S. which
in most cases the U.S. dollar has a higher value than their own. Most people disagree saying the cons
of this issue out way the pros. Here are some of the cons to this hideous problem. Illegal immigrants
pay no tax. If they pay no taxes then how can we as a country pay for public services we as well as
they do. Sending money out of our economy and sending it to their families abroad. If money is taken
out of our economy it causes a monetary problem. this can cause an inaccurate account of money in
circulation, which might cause inflation. Lower wages; if an illegal is willing to work for under the
minimum wage then the employer will not pay more for the job to any other employ. In fact might
higher only illegals and take away jobs form legal residents who are willing to work. When illegals
come to this country they do not get tested for diseases that might infect the population. Which can
cause a health problem. Such as

No New Worlds By Dr. Adrian Forsyth
The world is in a constant state of change, today s decisions will affect the future of all species large
and small, defining the ways in which society will continue to live. The essay No New Worlds written
by Dr. Adrian Forsyth explores ideas associated with ever changing populations and states of the
world. The essay describes the existence of humankind by their impacts on the surrounding
environments. The reader is then introduced to the implications our world faces if these problems are
not solved and additionally steps to solving these issues. Thus, both men and women need to take
action to help or pay the consequences and protect the only world we have, planet Earth.
Dr. Adrian Forsyth s essay No New Worlds features the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Forsyth implements plenty of evidence as well as proven statistics to back up his outlook on these
issues. The growth of human population is happening at an exponential rate, implying that in a short
period of time population growth will double. We find it difficult to comprehend exponential growth,
but it may prove to be our fatal blind spot [3]. When analysing the world s population over a long
period of time, it took roughly 19,000 years for the world s population to go from 5million people to
500 million people in 1500 A.D. [4] With an estimated population of 7.5 billion people [5], for a
period less than 1000 years, population increased more than 1500 times its size than it was in the 1500
s. In addition, on a more minute scale of time, in 1950 the world s population was roughly 2.5 billion
people [6] in merely 50 years the world s population has tripled. With these statics, it is evident that
the world s population is increasing at an incomprehensive rate. With populations at their peak,
overconsumption is another problem this world faces, as Dr. Forsyth affirms humans consume far
more than their fair share of the Earth s natural productivity. [7] Due to this over consumption of
resources, there is a vast demand for cheap food which results in the clear cutting of large forest to
generate room for new plantations of food. When doing so, humans destroy habitats that

Globalization And Westernization In Turkey
Has Turkey adopted both Western and Islamic principles? Westernization is the social process of
becoming familiar with or converting to the customs and practices of Western Civilization. It is the
accepting of western ideas in the fields of science, technology, philosophy, and other social
materialistic aspects of life. However, Islam is the submission to the will of God. Unlike
westernization, Islam is a spiritual practice, therefore, has its own unique identity, culture, and
principles of social life. Since the day of independence, Turkey has always aligned itself with the
western world. Only until recently, under the Justice and development party led by Recep Erdogan
Turkey is starting to practice and meddle in the affairs of the Middle East. What has lead Turkey to
dramatically shift its policy? How big of a role has the sense of identity play in this matter? This paper
will argue that although the population of Turkey is predominantly Muslim, it also represents a secular
state with western style democracy. It plays a critical geopolitical role since it is in the center of
Europe and the Middle East. It is also the revival of an identity the Islamist feared had been
overshadowed by the West and the Western culture. Therefore, in today s globalized world, Turkey
plays a vital role in complying both Islamic and western ideals to appeal to both of the civilizations.
Islamists in Turkey are departing from their conventional positions of anti western stance and are

How Is Technology Used In The Industrial Revolution
Technology, arguably one of the greatest aspects of the industrial revolution, can be simplified into a
few different ideas and inventors, most inspired by one inventor, who was James Watt, creating the
steam engine. The vast demand for cotton was because it was the first product to undergo the
revolution from the cottage industry to the mechanised age. Also, the wool trade exported thirty times
as much wool than cotton. In 1764 James Hargreaves constructed spinning Jenny, The Englishman
invented the spinning jenny, and jenny was an abbreviation of the word engine, a machine that
enabled an individual to produce multiple coils of threads at the same time. By the time Hargreaves
died, there were over 20,000 spinning Jennys being used across

Peter Kirkpatrick s Suburban Moment
Peter Kirkpatrick s poem Suburban Moment, 2 a.m. is a poem told in first person by the narrator or
persona which Kirkpatrick has created. It is structured as a 14 line sonnet with eight lines in the first
stanza and six lines in the second stanza. In the poem, Kirkpatrick presents a persona/narrator,
suggestively himself, who, during the middle of the night (at 2 a.m. as the title suggests) has an
extensive case of writer s block and is determined not to let sleep tempt him until his poem is
complete. The language used, along with the sentence structure of the poem, suggests a stuck and
frustrated tone and situation. There are three particular lines which seem to be quite effective within
this poem. These lines are: 1. No moon. No clouds. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This grammatical feature allows for the writer to explain, and the reader to comprehend, the time at
which the action of the verb takes place. It should be explained to the students the importance of verb
tenses. In particular, the aspect that these three tenses tell the time of a verb s action. In line with this,
it is also important for children to be given a definition for each of the tenses. For example: a past verb
tense (simple) shows that the action had occurred in the past, or the time leading up to now; a present
verb tense (simple) shows an action that is happening at that moment in time, or is reoccurring
regularly; and a future verb tense (simple) shows an action that will happen in the future, and have not
taken place yet. In simple verb tenses, past tense is generally recognised by words such as was ,
has/have , and words with an ed ending (e.g. I was talking , I have talked , I talked ); present tense can
be recognised by words such as is , am , are , and verbs ending in an s or ing (e.g. He is talking , I am

both messianic roles that are connected with their main characters. In both the novel and the movie,
symbolism of Christ is one of the main relations that connect these stories together. In the movie Cool

Vance, D. E. (2003) states that it is another way to think about the risk of leading to, or investing in a
company. These two companies both experienced a drop on this ratio from 2004 to 2005, 0.35 for
WOW and 0.3 for CML in 2005.
3. Financial leverage
Equity ratio debt ratio
Equity ratio and debt ratio are both designing for capital structure and they are negatively related with
each other. The cost of equity is higher than the cost of debt, but shareholders will not require
companies to repay them dividends and principals any time. However, companies must pay the debt
holders interests and principals each year. And increasing leverage ratio will result in increasing the
return to shareholders, yet at the same time, it will increase the repayment commitments and then raise
the risk to company and shareholders.
CML s equity ratio increased to 0.4 and correspondingly debt ratio decreased to 0.15 from 2001 to
2005. Generally it is a good trend, even though there has been a decrease in equity ratio in 2005 from
0.45 to 0.40 and an increase in debt ratio from 2004 to 2005, it may be due to the acquisition from US
group KKR. However, in 2005, equity is almost three times debt, which means the capital structure is
still in good condition.
On the other hand, WOW experienced a different trend that its equity ratio has decreased from 0.30 to
0.25, and debt ratio has significantly increased from 0.13 to 0.32 between 2001 and 2005. WOW

Analysis Of Live And Let Live By Evelyn Perry
In Evelyn Perry s Live and Let Live, she addresses some of the many concerns in under privileged
communities that are facing gentrification today. As I was reading this novel, the term gentrification
certainly became defined. Evelyn Perry presented a new way of thinking and understanding when it
comes to diverse, low income, integrated neighborhoods and how to simply not judge a book by its
cover. Anthropologists make a substantial difference in the world today. How they use specific
methods and research to help better understand groups of people that are different from themselves.
Not all Anthropologists travel to different parts of the country or across the world to study different
cultures or groups of people, but some also are involved in the business world, corporate
organizations, different sectors of government, and even the medical and political fields.
Anthropology is used in various ways of daily life, even though we don t realize it. In the book Live
and Let Live, one of the main research methods that was used, in my opinion, was participant
observation. By definition, participant observation is a research method in which the researcher not
only observes the participants, (in Evelyn Perry s case, the participants were basically the whole
community of Riverwest) but also engage in the same activities. As an example, Evelyn Perry
attended a few festivals during her time in Riverwest. She attended Center Street Daze, in which she
described as a more local little

Becoming A Fashion Retail Buyer Essay
Career Research Paper Growing up my thoughts and decisions constantly have changed from one to
another. I never can really stay to a plan for so long without changing my mind. However, what I have
found that has kept me grounded and staying on course is fashion design and retail. I am able to
express myself through this medium and eventually I plan on becoming a fashion retail buyer myself.
Also, I want to be involved in promoting campaigns and advertisements for the newest trends. One of
the many highlights of this job is being able to travel to different states and even countries to attend
trade fairs as well as visit certain suppliers. As a retail buyer, the buyer is responsible for selecting
products up to date with trends and to sell them in retail shops. To become a fashion buyer one must
attain a 2 4 year college degree. Along with this, when attending college a student should major in
either business, marketing, or merchandising. Although internships are not required, except for certain
particular business classes or programs, interning could possibly benefit someone to achieve the
highest potential in their job. While training a person needs to learn the knowledge of fashion, retail,
and economics. I would imagine that one must have first hand experience in retail, which I would
assume helps the person train for the job. The company s I seek interest in are higher end boutiques
because I would be able to sell good quality clothes for a higher price. In cogent

understand? Humbert is Dolly s real father (Nabokov 101). Humbert is able to convince Jean by
telling her that he had an affair with Charlotte years ago. Jean is completely convinced as seen in her
statement towards her husband. She is repetitive in mentioning that Humbert is Lolita s father. In
addition she asks her husband if he is able to follow what she is trying to say. Humbert managed to
convince her that he is Lolita s true father which completely removes any suspicions on what he plans
to do with Lolita. If Humbert failed to convince her, they might have questioned who should take

things there is no guarantee in the legitimacy of what he tells the reader. Making it difficult for readers

Freud s Theory Of The Oedipus Complex By Sigmund Freud
INTRODUCTION
Oedipus Complex
The Oedipus complex otherwise called mother fixation is a mental inclination of a man. This term is
used by Sigmund Freud as a part of his hypothesis of Psychosexual Stages of Development to depict a
kid s emotions of yearning for his mother and jealousy and outrage towards his father. Basically, a kid
feels like he is in rivalry with his father for possession of his mother. He sees his father as a rival for
her considerations and affections.
Greek Mythology
Oedipus King is about the story of Oedipus who murders his father and weds his mother, which is the
prototype of the Oedipus complex in Psychology. The protagonist or the hero of the tragedy is the

Lawrence portrays Mrs Morel s turning to her children particularly to Paul as an exceptionally

The experimental evidence proves that there is some level of aposematism in the population of
Oophaga pumilio frogs, meaning that the amount of predation among these frogs varies depending on
the color of the frog. The poisonous ones employ these conspicuous colors as a deterrence from
predators.
5. What conclusion did they make about their hypothesis/goal?
They concluded that the attacks on red frogs occurred at a much lower rate than the attacks on the
brown frogs, suggesting some level of predator avoidance of the Oophaga pumilio population.
6. What new hypothesis/goal emerges from the results?
From the conclusion of the first experiment, the researchers questioned whether or not this difference
in predation occurred because of conspicuous colors among half of the models or simply just because
of the mere difference in colors (one being brown, the other being red and brown). This could lead to
another set of experiments, but the results of the first experiment were pretty clear cut and allows you
to safely assume aposematic characteristics among the Oophaga pumilio.
7. If you wanted more background information on the topic, where would you look and which article
would you read?
I would look in the Campbell biology book because I know from previous experience that there is a

Topic Area
Environmental Issue
Project Title
Production of Eco Leather by using the latest Technology in Apex Tannery Ltd.
Introduction
Background to the Project
Leather is created by tanning hides and skins of animals; primarily cattle hide. Generally tanning
(series of chemical operation) of leather involves using heavy metals like chrome which is later on
discharged in the rivers near the tanneries polluting the water and soil causing hazardous intoxications
to the human beings, and environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Justifications
Luxury leather products always lead the avant grade of 3fashion compromising with the traditional
craftsmanship. Ecological leather is still the same leather, but is manufactured driven by the
conviction of controlling the green house effect as a major ecological issue with less or no impact to
the environment. All the materials used in the tanning and finishing process are fully biodegradable. It
is manufactured by using alternative and renewable sources of energy, equipment, and chemicals
applying the latest technology in leather manufacturing. From this point of view I think my proposed
topic is an appropriate one.
Leather goods are now no longer restricted to jackets, coats, belts and boots. Many other fashion
accessories are also manufactured with leather attracting a lot of attention in the market. Due to their
durability and high glam quotient, fashion designers feel it is essential to have a leather jacket or
boots. Designer leather items are hitting the runways and ramp shows in a big way. They give better
value for money in the long run. Various products such as trench coats, halters, bags, handbags, and
upholstery can be manufactured using the eco friendly leather.
Mr. Burak Celet, General Manager of the Turkey based DESA, in an exclusive interview with
Fibre2Fashion expresses his views about the global leather industry. He says, We are

The Safety Of Autonomous Vehicles
Smart Cars
Gartner has estimated that by 2020 there will be 250 million connected cars on the worlds roads,
which has left a considerable asking questions about the safety of autonomous vehicles (Scott). An
autonomous vehicle is a mode of transportation that does not need a person driving it.
Cisco s Smart Connected Vehicles division has a hypothesis which states that autonomous cars could
eliminate as 85 percent of head on collisions. One of the greatest problems that smart cars face is
getting people to trust them. In a study conducted by Carlnsur, it found that 80 percent of people
would not purchase a self driving car if they had the option, citing their main reason of opposition as a
lack of trust in the computer to get them to their destination safely (Young).
Furthermore, because the cars will be able to communicate with each other Cisco believes that the
traffic would be lighter and therefore save drivers time spent in traffic. Henceforth, by cars spending
less time in traffic there will be less carbon released into the air and fuel costs will decrease, which
will lead to a more sustainable environment.
Smart Trains
Nearly $30 billion will be spent in the next 15 years on the IoT projects in the railway industry,
according to Cisco. This is expensive because extremely old infrastructure will need to be replaced
with cutting edge technologies. The new IoT technology will be able to allow for more productivity
and a safer ride.

Excise A Tumor Poem Analysis
The first line in How to Excise a Tumor is don t fall in love with it, whatever you do, and given this
poem seems like it is going to be about how to remove a tumor, this advice seems fairly obvious. After
all, who would fall in love with something as horrible as a tumor? But for Safiya Sinclair, this is the
opening line, the defining line, of this poem and in her poem, How to Excise a Tumor, Safiya Sinclair
uses the speaker s tumor as a symbol for an unwanted child. Through the poetical devices such as
metaphors and imagery, Sinclair weaves a tale of a tumor and its human.
How to Excise a Tumor is a relatively short poem of 27 lines. It details what advice the speaker has to
those who, presumably, have discovered they have a tumor. She, the speaker, gives suggestions and
warnings like don t fall in love with [the tumor] and it will always want more that you can give. This
is good advice to those with literal tumors as well as those whose tumors are a bit more metaphorical,
as is the speaker s tumor. Her tumor is an undesired child, possibly the product of sexual assault. The
speaker says the tumor will move to leech at your nipples, and other parts of you will grow hot to
show how the reader s initial uncaring provisions will turn into warmth and affection for the child. As
the reader s affection grows and the child make[s] a home in the damp chasms of your heart, the
speaker believes you ll begin to see the good in everything, but despite how wonderful that situation
might sound, the speaker lets the readers know otherwise. She again warns the reader that the tumor
will [make] such a mes of your dreams and to not give in to accidental pleasure. All of the speaker s
warnings show that she regrets giving into her tumor and not doing more to get rid of it which creates
a theme of unhappiness.
That theme is further supported by the metaphors scattered throughout How to Excise a Tumor. One
such metaphor is the blind aphid. An aphid is a small bug that feeds destructively on plants and a blind
aphid would be particularly undiscerning. Without sight, the aphid chew[s] straight through the core.
In other words, the aphid or the tumor continues eating and taking until it has destroyed the

Evaluation Of A Business Project Essay
In general, there are four areas that need to be considered for the end user of this product to have a
pleasant and meaningful interaction with it. First, the structure of the interface. It is critical that the
environment have both flexibility and easy of use. Given that the average user of this project can be
considered to be relatively technically savvy, it is reasonable to provide them with a detailed level of
configuration such that they are comfortable programming in the environment. The editor should have
variety of options for settings as simple as syntax highlighting colors or as complex as text completion
preferences. Second, the manner in which the user interacts with the interface needs to be refined.
Precedents in this space already exist, the iPython Notebook3 being the most popular. This software
functions with an input output format wherein the user works on a block of code and then runs it to
see the result. However, this model has several flaws were it to be used as the format of this project: it
lacks true interactivity the user is constrained to a question and answer model rather than provided
with an inspectable, living code. Third, the manner in which output is displayed has to be given
careful consideration. For example, should the output be constrained to two dimensional
visualizations? It may be that certain data structures are more clearly elucidated in three dimensional
space. Additionally, should the visualized output itself be allowed to

Analysis Of The Novel Things Fall Apart
Things Fall Apart novel tries to bring back up cultural, social as well as spiritual basics of traditional
Igbo (Ibo) existence from the year 1850 and 1900. The novel cannot be fixed like truthful societal and
political old times of Ibo society since it is a work of invented story. However, the novel describes
disagreements and apprehensions in Igbo society. It also depicts changes initiated by colonial ruling
and Christianity. The author mentions that European colonialism operates as a powerful as well as
well built mediator of the change within Ibo society. Additionally, Christianity attracted the trivial
associates of the Igbo society. Igbo and other societies were changed considerably due to this variety
of deal with Europeans. A few societies expanded in dimension and authority as marketable centers,
whereas others go through great losses in the course of slave invasion. Hostility also gets higher, and
conflicts tactics tat are distorted due to the use of weapons.
In expressing the accomplishment of Catholic Missionaries Hatch, Roman Catholics appeared to be
most helpful within the endeavor by protecting a paramount place within Igbo society. According to
Chinua Achebe, Educational expansion was the invention of Igbo confined organization but not of
British supervision. As a result, other operation schools such as Anglican schools traced their private
development within launching and at the same time managing other schools within Igbo land (Achebe,

Who Is John Stuart Mill Act Utilitarianism
Stemming from the 19th century, a group of British philosophers, Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart
Mill formed a set of basic principles to address social problems in England. Jeremy Bentham was
inspired by the ideas of hedonism where happiness is equated to pleasure, thus he de developed a
system of Utility Calculus. One of his followers, John Stuart Mill, however was dissatisfied, so he
redeveloped the system into what is largely known today as the classic ethical theory of Utilitarianism.
Utilitarianism as defined by MacKinnon and Fiala is a normative theory that we ought to concern
ourselves with the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people (p.568). It is one of the most
famous form of consequentialist ethics that is mainly focuses about the consequences of an action. An
action is only right if it conforms to the greatest happiness (pleasure) principle and provides the best
results for the majority of the people. An act is wrong if it results in unhappiness (pain or suffering)
and does the contrary.
There are two forms of utilitarianism, act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. Act utilitarianism is
where each individual situation is assessed on its own qualities with the aim of promoting the greatest

the negative outcomes (Dubovoy, n.d.). Another application of utilitarianism is in the healthcare field
ethics versus economics. When a physician is faced with the dilemma of making decision as to which
ethical principle to apply to a certain situation, most would resort to the Utility principle to promote

The Blair Witch Project Essay
A Critical Reflection of The Blair Witch Project
Perhaps one of the most influential modern horror films, The Blair Witch Project pioneered an entirely
new subgenre of horror films in 1999 the found footage film. The Blair Witch Project uses simple yet
effective set design and dream like sound editing to highlight the gradual mental decay of main
character, Heather Donahue over the course of the story to illustrate a dramatic shift in the orientation.
This, along with the first hand experience offered by point of view camera positioning allows the
audience to experience the terror associated with horror and the demonic alongside the main
characters as the film progresses As the main characters Heather Donahue, Josh Leonard, and Mike
Williams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the scenes rely on the setting rather than any type of design or manipulation, allowing the
naturally frightening location of the secluded forest to contribute to the terror felt by both the
characters and the audience. When scene design is heavily incorporated, such as in the final scene in
the witch s house, the design is expressed through subtleties that have been established earlier in the
film. Symbols and children s handprints on the walls of the decaying house imply that the house that
Mike and Heather find themselves in during the last scene is in fact the house that the children from
the townspeople s stories were killed in.
The first person point of view camera angle also allows the audience to experience the strange and
terrifying events that take place within the film by allowing them to adopt the perspective of the
characters in a way that cannot be accomplished with traditional film making techniques. This
adoption of perspective allows the audience to identify with the characters on a personal level, making
them open to the notions of orientations and ideas that seem ridiculous, such as continuing to film
regardless of the terrifying events that take

The Tories Research Paper
The Tories were compiled disgruntled young Irishmen whose ancient hatred for the English coupled
with the spectacle of defeat, despair and degradation was sufficient reason to continue resistance .
They were led by dispossessed noblemen and Irish officers. They mostly attacked livestock but were
not against killing an Englishman once in a while. The English s punishment for Tories was strict and
after a band of Tories killed two Protestants in Lackagh, 4 Irishmen were hanged for not preventing
the murder and others, including 2 priests and an 80 year old woman were sent to Barbados. Since the
Irish usually just took livestock though, the English would just tax the town closest to where the
livestock was taken. Frequently, the town could not pay this and this would cause the government to
tax the surrounding areas. This in turn would cause many more men to become Tories due the
economic strife being inflicted on them by the English. It got so bad in some areas that Catholic
swordsmen were allowed to stay in some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

almost a decade . The Adventures, who were made up of mostly London merchant, had all the Anti
Catholic prejudices that were all too common at the time of their arrival . But little to nothing was
actually done to rid the area of the Irish who were doing labor. The Adventures also made up only a

The Issue Of Rising College Tuition Essay
Throughout this project, I found that working through the Standard Agenda to solve a problem was an
effective way for a group to decide upon a solution. Even though our group was unexperienced using
the Standard Agenda, we were able to use each other s strengths to improve the quality of our
discussion about the issue of rising college tuition. Looking back to previous projects, I can see how
our group has grown to better understand the methods of effective group work. While there were both
beneficial and impeding forces at work in the task and social processes, I feel that overall our group
had a successful problem solving discussion. I believe that our group did a good job for the most part
on following the Standard Agenda. We were able to complete steps three through six in roughly fifty
one minutes. I feel that we did some portions of the Standard Agenda well but faltered on other
sections. For example, I believe that we should have done a better job with consciously considering
solution criteria as a group. At one point in the conversation (throughout 16:00 to 17:00), I did not
know that the solution criteria had been listed on the whiteboard because we had not clearly defined
that we were discussing it as a group. I ended up interrupting the solution generation phase because I
felt the criteria needed more attention (around 17:49), even though we had naturally explored it for a
short period of time (13:17 14:25). I feel that the solution criteria step is vital to any

Parametric Study Of Stability Of Pond Ash Embankments
PARAMETRIC STUDY OF STABILITY OF POND ASH EMBANKMENTS ABSTRACT Among
various challenges in civil engineering, slope stability and the challenges related are of utmost
importance. The failure of a slope may lead to loss of life and property. With the development of
modern methods of testing of soils and stability analysis, a safe and economical design of a slope is
possible. The technique used in this paper for the analysis of slope is the use of SLOPE/W software.
The variations are studied in terms of parametric analysis by varying the parameters such as slope,
material, berm width and stages of the embankment. Results show that the factor of safety increases
with increase in slope for a particular berm width and stage. It also shows that the factor of safety
decreases with increase in stage for a particular slope and berm width. 1. INTRODUCTION The
evaluation of stability of slopes in soil is an important problem in the field of geotechnical
engineering. The failure of an embankment happens due to geological instability caused by changes to
water levels. Most embankments fail due to seepage. Seepage, if uncontrolled can erode fine soil
material from the downstream slope or foundation and continue moving towards the upstream slope to
form a pipe or cavity to the pond or lake often leading to complete failure of the embankment. Due to
the increase in water level scouring of soil may take place which can lead to catastrophic results.
Therefore it becomes imperative to find

Summary Of When Mercy Collides With The Law
Morality vs. The rule of Law The article When Mercy Collides with The Law is a very interesting
piece, on a man living in a Chicago suburb who opened his basement to the homeless on cold nights.
The city came in and stopped him, on the grounds that he violated municipal regulations . Greg
Schiller, 53, had set up a shelter for the homeless during the recent cold spells, allowing them to stay
the night when it dropped below negative 15. He provided cots and hot food and drink for them. The
city of Elgin shut him down because his basement didn t meet certain safety requirements. The side I
would choose in this dispute is the side of Schiller, although I can see the point of the city council. I

Minimum Wage Negative
Many researchers believe that minimum wage does not always have an inverse relationship on
employment. This report aim is to discuss the negative relationship between minimum wage and
employment. The minimum wage can be defined as an active labor market policy instrument, used by
governments around the world to set a wage floor. It mostly leads to structural unemployment since
minimum wage is sectorial, that is every sector have a different minimum wage from the other i.e. the
minimum wage for taxi drivers is 3,218/month while the minimum wage for domestic workers is
2,230/month (Wage Indicator, 2016: 1).
Since economics optimality is obtained after a tradeoff, an increase in minimum wage will lead to an
increase in unemployment. This was earlier

customers who did come often said that the donuts Raphael made are their favorite. The shop was

were barely any breaks. The shop was open everyday from 5:00 am to 12.00 midnight. On the top
floor, Mr. Dot was counting his money in his office. Bob knocked on the door. What do you want,
groaned Mr. Dot. Bob walked into the money filled room. Rolled up dollars with rubber bands were
everywhere. Sir, may I please have a break, Bob pleaded. No, we have customers that still are waiting

Mr.Dot screamed. Bob left the room and started his way to the cash register.
Months past. Raphael was in the kitchen washing the dishes. The janitor mopped the floor very

Plutarch s Life Of The Heroes
Plutarch was a son of the philosopher named Aristobulus. He was born in 46 AD in Chaeronea,
Boeotia; and he died in 120 AD. Plutarch was also known as a historian, essayist and biographer who
had left a huge literary heritage for humanity. By traveling abroad to other countries such as Egypt,
Greece..., Plutarch assembled lots of information about the heroes of the Roman and Greece
mythology. After that, he used that information to write about lives of heroes. He gathered all
fascinating biographies in his massive books: Plutarch Greek Lives , Plutarch Roman Lives and The
Parallel Lives of Plutarch . Those books bring a reputation to Plutarch and he became a famous
biographer at that time. In his books, he wrote the lives of the heroes in order of time to show his
respects to those people of both countries. The short biographies in his books are about childhood,
achievements and deaths of the heroes. Besides that, he also added some interesting stories and
lessons in those biographies to educate his readers. His books were translated into many different
languages and they have great influences to modern historians and modern biographers. After reading
the book Greek Lives of Plutarch, I was impressed by the biography about Lycurgus. Lycurgus was
written as the father of Sparta. He was legislator who wrote many constitutions to build up and
maintain the strength and power of Sparta during 500 years. There are some differences between the

The Rate Of Imprisonment Of Aboriginal And Torres Strait...
Introduction The rate of imprisonment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians has
dramatically increased since 1992. Statistics went from 1 in 7 prisoners in 1992 to 1 in 4 in 2012 and
to almost 1 in 3 in 2014. There have been an abundance of proposals, plans and programs established,
some of which have failed and some which are still in development, to try decrease the high numbers.
The high incarceration rate of Indigenous people in Australia is considered to be a global issue that
must be addressed. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prison rates The increased severity in the
criminal justice system towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is claimed to be the cause
for the increasing incarceration rates. Research shows that the majority of Australian prisons have a
high Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population, since 1989, the imprisonment rates of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people has increased 12 times faster than the rate of non
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This shows that there has been major overrepresentation
of Indigenous people in Australia in prisons. FIGURE 1 As seen in figure 1, Indigenous people
represent 17% of the prison population on average. In Western Australia and Northern Territory it is
particularly high with there being 43% and 84% of Indigenous people in prison. However, as shown

How Facebook Can Generate Leads On Pinterest
How To Generate Leads On Pinterest
Do you love Pinterest but aren t sure you re using it as well as you could for your business? Feel like
you re missing something?
You just might be.
Pinterest is so much more than pretty pictures of pretty things. It s an increasingly popular,
increasingly successful platform for marketing, with some sources citing a single Pin worth 78 cents
in real world sales.
But not everyone succeeds on the platform. Pinterest has far and away the most gender targeted
audience of the top 6 social platforms. We re talking about a social site with an 80 percent female user
base. For those businesses that know how to connect on it, though, it s becoming the most exciting

This environment also is perfect for a lead generation contest, as 70 percent of Pinterest users use the
platform to get inspiration on what to buy (compared to 17 percent on Facebook). This creates an
environment where people actively want the things they see.
Tip #1: Ensure your Pinterest images are in portrait mode and roughly 600 pixels by 900. Compress
them to below 100 KB there are hundreds of image compressing tools online if possible.
Step by step:
On your website (or on Facebook or Twitter with a 3rd party app), create a visually appealing landing
page devoted to your contest. Create a contest in which users pin images of your products or their
favorite related images onto their own boards. Decide on a prize closely related to your business. (This
ensures leads are genuinely interested in your products, instead of simply a cash prize or random
iPad.) Email gate entry to the contest by requiring that entrants provide their email address before they
can enter to win (lead generation!). On the entry form, ask entrants to enter the URL of the Pinterest

such architecture slowly surrenders its grip on its surroundings to a grim, hopeless one. As new,

ABSTRACT: The demands for high bandwidth high speed application are growing at a faster rate and
with the minimum tolerance of error. To enhance available bandwidth and improve the quality of
transmission convolution codes are used on the OFDM (Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing)
communication system over AWGN channel. In OFDM (Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing)
systems with channel equalization play a key role in overcoming distortions caused by phenomena
like fading, delay spread and multipath effects. A new framework for designing robust adaptive filters
is introduced. A series of review papers were already available to provide a history of the development

My Family Cultural Analysis
My family mainly originates from the U.K, predominantly Ireland. Both sets of my Grandparents are
mainly Irish but they more than likely have English and Scottish ancestry as their parents were from
the U.K which consist of Ireland, Scotland, and England. I myself like to think of myself as Irish
because, well, let s be honest, the Irish are pretty cool. This fondness of Ireland helped me determine
what images to use to represent my heritage and culture, these images consist of the Irish flag,
Shepard s Pie, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, and a rainy forest. I choose these images because I
thought they portrayed how I perceive my culture and heritage, beginning with the guitars. My Mother
s side of the family holds a lot of musicians who played stringed instruments such as the fiddle, banjo,
or guitar. I myself play guitar and love stringed instruments, especially ones in a traditional orchestra
like double bass, cello, and violins, I also really like folk music which primarily originates from
Ireland. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rainy forest demonstrates that Ireland is uh rainy, duh, but it also represents my love for the
woodlands and rain. I love the rain, and woods, it s kind of funny too because my last name is wood,
which is an English last name and English last names hold a meaning for what you did and wood was
working with wood or in woodlands. Last but not least The Shepard s Pie. Shepherd s pie is a meal my
family eats quite a bit that originates in Ireland, it s quite delicious, it s made by cooking ground beef
in a Guinness stout with vegetables like corn, peas, and carrots mixed in and having a whole lot of
mashed potatoes on the top and lots and lots of cheese on the mashed potatoes. My Irish heritage is
something I m quite proud about as it is a very predominate factor in my life from the foods I eat
every night or the music I play or listen to basically whenever I have free time, it s something that s a

Girls On The Run Essay
Executive Summary We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience based
curriculum which creatively integrates running. This is the mission of the Girls on the Run
organization and they strive to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical
development in girls from the ages of eight to thirteen years old. Their main objective is to educate
and empower these girls at their early ages in order to prevent the display of at risk activities such as
alcohol abuse, eating disorders, pre marital sexual activity, depression, suicide, and other
confrontational behavior in the future. The organization is growing rapidly around the United States

Girls on the run will also provide a constructive use of time as they engage in healthy activities that
are physically, emotionally, and socially beneficial. However, because Girls on the Run is a new
organization to State College, it is less known and parents and children may be less receptive and
willing to enroll in the program. Another weakness that Girls on the Run will face is having the start
up funds necessary to host various special events and activities. In addition to analyzing the
organizations weaknesses, it is also important to evaluate the opportunities that they can bring to the
area. Girls on the Run has the opportunity to introduce a new and innovative program to the State
College area that would promote good health and fitness. This is especially important due to the
current grow in the child obesity rate. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the
percentage of children aged 6 11 years old in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in
1980 to nearly 20% in 2008. In terms of threats, Girls on the Run will have to compete will the other
organizations that are held within the various schools that they choose to implement the program in.
The State College area school district alone already has more than eighty extracurricular options
available for interested students. At the Park Forest Elementary School, some of these activities
include K.I.D.S which stands for Kids

Abstract Technology has become a hot item for school district to implement into the classroom. The
need for this technology comes from an every changing world and because of the way 21st century
students learn. Web 2.0 technology must be used and integrated into the classroom. However, many
problems occur when trying to integrate technology. Question on whether student achievement is
increased, failures of school districts, and new demands placed on teachers have caused a negative
spin on technology. In order to be successful, technology must be implemented correctly by the
community, administrators, and teachers together.

Technology is no longer considered to be a special event by students, but is expected to be integrated
into the classroom (Koeber 2005). Even with many districts trying to push 21st century technology
into the classroom mainly failures still exist. These failures range from lack of achievement increases
(Oxford 2006) to struggles with overall plans created by school districts (Owen 2004). The use of
technology must be integrated into the classroom. However, many stakeholders that are on the outside
looking in do not understand how complex this process can be on teachers and the school districts
(Windschitle 2002). It is the purpose of this paper to explore need for technology into classrooms and
to explain why this can be such a problem. To represent the need for technology in the classroom 21st
century learning styles and successful integration techniques will be used. An argument will be made
for why technology has been so hard to correctly integrate. Finally, correct implementation techniques
on a district, school, and classroom level will be examined to show that technology can and should be
used in today s classroom.

Should Fund Programs Be Funded The Search For Extra...
Understanding the heavens has been a continual mystery to humans. Throughout human history,
individuals have been curious about life other than on planet Earth. The question that remains is if
humanity is alone in the universe. This question is very important because after all, the universe is still
expanding. In addition to the expansion of the universe, astronomers have discovered at least six
potential habitable worlds in our own solar system (CITE). It is natural to wonder if other worlds
might also have intelligent life and civilizations. Many claims have been made that we have already
been visited by aliens in UFOs, however, while plenty of evidence has been offered for scientific
examination so far none of it has been enough to convince us that the claims of visitations are real
(Bennett, 260). However, this doesn t mean that there is no intelligent life beyond our home planet.
Due to this, taxpayers should fund programs to begin the search for extra terrestrial life in the
universe. The reason why there should be programs that fund the search for extra terrestrial life in the
universe is because extra terrestrial life can help enhance our understanding of the universe.
Where ever extra terrestrial beings are located in space they can enhance our understanding of the
universe. This is because we are the newcomers in the universe and extra terrestrial beings can
potentially be around since the time our universe was created, which was 14 billion years ago
(Bennett,1 ).

Five Steps OfSatire In today s society, it is very common for people to make fun of certain events or people online or through media, known as satire. Satire can be defined as, the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice ( satire ) to expose the faults of humanity, institution or society. Satirists use literary techniques and elements of satire in order to communicate a message to the reader. That message can be conveyed through the five steps of satire. The Problem withImmgration to the United States Essay The Problem with Immgration to the United States The first move stopping immigration decided by Congress was a law in 1862 restricting American vessels to transport Chinese immigrants to the U.S. The Alien Contract Labor Laws of 1885, 1887, 1888, and 1891 restricted the immigration to the U.S. of people entering the country to work under contracts made before their arrival. Alien skilled laborers, under these laws, were allowed to enter the U.S. to work in new industries. No New WorldsBy Dr. Adrian Forsyth The world is in a constant state of change, today s decisions will affect the future of all species large and small, defining the ways in which society will continue to live. The essay No New Worlds written by Dr. Adrian Forsyth explores ideas associated with ever changing populations and states of the world. The essay describes the existence of humankind by their impacts on the surrounding environments. The reader is then introduced to the implications our world faces if these problems are not solved and additionally steps to solving these issues. Thus, both men and women need to take action to help or pay the consequences and protect the only world we have, planet Earth. Dr. Adrian Forsyth s essay No New Worlds features the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. Forsyth implements plenty of evidence as well as proven statistics to back up his outlook on these issues. The growth of human population is happening at an exponential rate, implying that in a short period of time population growth will double. We find it difficult to comprehend exponential growth, but it may prove to be our fatal blind spot [3]. When analysing the world s population over a long period of time, it took roughly 19,000 years for the world s population to go from 5million people to 500 million people in 1500 A.D. [4] With an estimated population of 7.5 billion people [5], for a period less than 1000 years, population increased more than 1500 times its size than it was in the 1500 s. In addition, on a more minute scale of time, in 1950 the world s population was roughly 2.5 billion people [6] in merely 50 years the world s population has tripled. With these statics, it is evident that the world s population is increasing at an incomprehensive rate. With populations at their peak, overconsumption is another problem this world faces, as Dr. Forsyth affirms humans consume far more than their fair share of the Earth s natural productivity. [7] Due to this over consumption of resources, there is a vast demand for cheap food which results in the clear cutting of large forest to generate room for new plantations of food. When doing so, humans destroy habitats that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Globalization And WesternizationIn Turkey Has Turkey adopted both Western and Islamic principles? Westernization is the social process of becoming familiar with or converting to the customs and practices of Western Civilization. It is the accepting of western ideas in the fields of science, technology, philosophy, and other social materialistic aspects of life. However, Islam is the submission to the will of God. Unlike westernization, Islam is a spiritual practice, therefore, has its own unique identity, culture, and principles of social life. Since the day of independence, Turkey has always aligned itself with the western world. Only until recently, under the Justice and development party led by Recep Erdogan Turkey is starting to practice and meddle in the affairs of the Middle East. What has lead Turkey to dramatically shift its policy? How big of a role has the sense of identity play in this matter? This paper will argue that although the population of Turkey is predominantly Muslim, it also represents a secular state with western style democracy. It plays a critical geopolitical role since it is in the center of Europe and the Middle East. It is also the revival of an identity the Islamist feared had been overshadowed by the West and the Western culture. Therefore, in today s globalized world, Turkey plays a vital role in complying both Islamic and western ideals to appeal to both of the civilizations. In line with this, it is also important for children to be given a definition for each of the tenses. Equity ratio debtratio Equity ratio and debt ratio are both designing for capital structure and they are negatively related with each other. The cost of equity is higher than the cost of debt, but shareholders will not require companies to repay them dividends and principals any time. However, companies must pay the debt holders interests and principals each year. And increasing leverage ratio will result in increasing the return to shareholders, yet at the same time, it will increase the repayment commitments and then raise the risk to company and shareholders. CML s equity ratio increased to 0.4 and correspondingly debt ratio decreased to 0.15 from 2001 to 2005. Generally it is a good trend, even though there has been a decrease in equity ratio in 2005 from 0.45 to 0.40 and an increase in debt ratio from 2004 to 2005, it may be due to the acquisition from US group KKR. Analysis Of LiveAnd Let Live By Evelyn Perry In Evelyn Perry s Live and Let Live, she addresses some of the many concerns in under privileged communities that are facing gentrification today. As I was reading this novel, the term gentrification certainly became defined. Evelyn Perry presented a new way of thinking and understanding when it comes to diverse, low income, integrated neighborhoods and how to simply not judge a book by its cover. Anthropologists make a substantial difference in the world today. How they use specific methods and research to help better understand groups of people that are different from themselves. Not all Anthropologists travel to different parts of the country or across the world to study different cultures or groups of people, but some also are involved in the business world, corporate organizations, different sectors of government, and even the medical and political fields. Anthropology is used in various ways of daily life, even though we don t realize it. In the book Live and Let Live, one of the main research methods that was used, in my opinion, was participant observation. By definition, participant observation is a research method in which the researcher not only observes the participants, (in Evelyn Perry s case, the participants were basically the whole community of Riverwest) but also engage in the same activities. Becoming A FashionRetail Buyer Essay Career Research Paper Growing up my thoughts and decisions constantly have changed from one to another. I never can really stay to a plan for so long without changing my mind. However, what I have found that has kept me grounded and staying on course is fashion design and retail. I am able to express myself through this medium and eventually I plan on becoming a fashion retail buyer myself. Also, I want to be involved in promoting campaigns and advertisements for the newest trends. One of the many highlights of this job is being able to travel to different states and even countries to attend trade fairs as well as visit certain suppliers. As a retail buyer, the buyer is responsible for selecting products up to date with trends and to sell them in retail shops. To become a fashion buyer one must attain a 2 4 year college degree. Along with this, when attending college a student should major in either business, marketing, or merchandising. Although internships are not required, except for certain particular business classes or programs, interning could possibly benefit someone to achieve the highest potential in their job. While training a person needs to learn the knowledge of fashion, retail, and economics. Lawrence alongside portraying the unpredictable and abnormal connection also finds numerous unusual factors behind this bizarre connection. Among all the factors, the most well known one is Mrs. Morel s moving her fascination or desire from spouse to child which was the result of the bizarre relation or mismatch between her spouse in regards to character, family status, training, keenness and so on. While she is an exceedingly religious lady, her spouse is hard lush, her refined way additionally negates with his profanity. Meditation Analysis Before Itake this class, I know that meditation is just sitting on the floor, close eyes and meditating. Because I did not know how to do it, I didn t know how difficult it is. The first day of meditation class, I had hard time to follow. We were sitting on the chair instead of floor. I thought meditation is only sitting on the floor. It was interesting. Probably sitting on the chair is easier than floor; we all used to sitting on the chair. I tried both at home on the floor, chair and bed. Sitting on the chair was the best. It was comfortable and my body was more relax. The experimental evidence proves that there is some level of aposematism in the population of Oophaga pumilio frogs, meaning that the amount of predation among these frogs varies depending on the color of the frog. The poisonous ones employ these conspicuous colors as a deterrence from predators. 5. What conclusion did they make about their hypothesis/goal? They concluded that the attacks on red frogs occurred at a much lower rate than the attacks on the brown frogs, suggesting some level of predator avoidance of the Oophaga pumilio population. 6. What new hypothesis/goal emerges from the results? From the conclusion of the first experiment, the researchers questioned whether or not this difference in predation occurred because of conspicuous colors among half of the models or simply just because of the mere difference in colors (one being brown, the other being red and brown). This could lead to another set of experiments, but the results of the first experiment were pretty clear cut and allows you to safely assume aposematic characteristics among the Oophaga pumilio. 7. The Safety OfAutonomous Vehicles Smart Cars Gartner has estimated that by 2020 there will be 250 million connected cars on the worlds roads, which has left a considerable asking questions about the safety of autonomous vehicles (Scott). An autonomous vehicle is a mode of transportation that does not need a person driving it. Cisco s Smart Connected Vehicles division has a hypothesis which states that autonomous cars could eliminate as 85 percent of head on collisions. One of the greatest problems that smart cars face is getting people to trust them. In a study conducted by Carlnsur, it found that 80 percent of people would not purchase a self driving car if they had the option, citing their main reason of opposition as a lack of trust in the computer to get them to their destination safely (Young). Furthermore, because the cars will be able to communicate with each other Cisco believes that the traffic would be lighter and therefore save drivers time spent in traffic. Henceforth, by cars spending less time in traffic there will be less carbon released into the air and fuel costs will decrease, which will lead to a more sustainable environment. Smart Trains Nearly $30 billion will be spent in the next 15 years on the IoT projects in the railway industry, according to Cisco. This is expensive because extremely old infrastructure will need to be replaced with cutting edge technologies. The new IoT technology will be able to allow for more productivity and a safer ride. Excise A TumorPoem Analysis The first line in How to Excise a Tumor is don t fall in love with it, whatever you do, and given this poem seems like it is going to be about how to remove a tumor, this advice seems fairly obvious. After all, who would fall in love with something as horrible as a tumor? But for Safiya Sinclair, this is the opening line, the defining line, of this poem and in her poem, How to Excise a Tumor, Safiya Sinclair uses the speaker s tumor as a symbol for an unwanted child. Through the poetical devices such as metaphors and imagery, Sinclair weaves a tale of a tumor and its human. How to Excise a Tumor is a relatively short poem of 27 lines. It details what advice the speaker has to those who, presumably, have discovered they have a tumor. She, the speaker, gives suggestions and warnings like don t fall in love with [the tumor] and it will always want more that you can give. This is good advice to those with literal tumors as well as those whose tumors are a bit more metaphorical, as is the speaker s tumor. Her tumor is an undesired child, possibly the product of sexual assault. The speaker says the tumor will move to leech at your nipples, and other parts of you will grow hot to show how the reader s initial uncaring provisions will turn into warmth and affection for the child. As the reader s affection grows and the child make[s] a home in the damp chasms of your heart, the speaker believes you ll begin to see the good in everything, but despite how wonderful that situation might sound, the speaker lets the readers know otherwise. She again warns the reader that the tumor will [make] such a mes of your dreams and to not give in to accidental pleasure. All of the speaker s warnings show that she regrets giving into her tumor and not doing more to get rid of it which creates a theme of unhappiness. That theme is further supported by the metaphors scattered throughout How to Excise a Tumor. One such metaphor is the blind aphid. An aphid is a small bug that feeds destructively on plants and a blind aphid would be particularly undiscerning. Without sight, the aphid chew[s] straight through the core. In other words, the aphid or the tumor continues eating and taking until it has destroyed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evaluation Of ABusiness Project Essay In general, there are four areas that need to be considered for the end user of this product to have a pleasant and meaningful interaction with it. First, the structure of the interface. It is critical that the environment have both flexibility and easy of use. Given that the average user of this project can be considered to be relatively technically savvy, it is reasonable to provide them with a detailed level of configuration such that they are comfortable programming in the environment. The editor should have variety of options for settings as simple as syntax highlighting colors or as complex as text completion preferences. Second, the manner in which the user interacts with the interface needs to be refined. Precedents in this space already exist, the iPython Notebook3 being the most popular. This software functions with an input output format wherein the user works on a block of code and then runs it to see the result. However, this model has several flaws were it to be used as the format of this project: it lacks true interactivity the user is constrained to a question and answer model rather than provided with an inspectable, living code. Third, the manner in which output is displayed has to be given careful consideration. For example, should the output be constrained to two dimensional visualizations? It may be that certain data structures are more clearly elucidated in three dimensional space. Additionally, should the visualized output itself be allowed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who Is JohnStuart Mill Act Utilitarianism Stemming from the 19th century, a group of British philosophers, Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill formed a set of basic principles to address social problems in England. Jeremy Bentham was inspired by the ideas of hedonism where happiness is equated to pleasure, thus he de developed a system of Utility Calculus. One of his followers, John Stuart Mill, however was dissatisfied, so he redeveloped the system into what is largely known today as the classic ethical theory of Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism as defined by MacKinnon and Fiala is a normative theory that we ought to concern ourselves with the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people (p.568). It is one of the most famous form of consequentialist ethics that is mainly focuses about the consequences of an action. An action is only right if it conforms to the greatest happiness (pleasure) principle and provides the best results for the majority of the people. An act is wrong if it results in unhappiness (pain or suffering) and does the contrary. There are two forms of utilitarianism, act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. The Blair WitchProject Essay A Critical Reflection of The Blair Witch Project Perhaps one of the most influential modern horror films, The Blair Witch Project pioneered an entirely new subgenre of horror films in 1999 the found footage film. The Blair Witch Project uses simple yet effective set design and dream like sound editing to highlight the gradual mental decay of main character, Heather Donahue over the course of the story to illustrate a dramatic shift in the orientation. This, along with the first hand experience offered by point of view camera positioning allows the audience to experience the terror associated with horror and the demonic alongside the main characters as the film progresses As the main characters Heather Donahue, Josh Leonard, and Mike Williams ... Most of the scenes rely on the setting rather than any type of design or manipulation, allowing the naturally frightening location of the secluded forest to contribute to the terror felt by both the characters and the audience. Symbols and children s handprints on the walls of the decaying house imply that the house that Mike and Heather find themselves in during the last scene is in fact the house that the children from the townspeople s stories were killed in. The first person point of view camera angle also allows the audience to experience the strange and terrifying events that take place within the film by allowing them to adopt the perspective of the characters in a way that cannot be accomplished with traditional film making techniques. This adoption of perspective allows the audience to identify with the characters on a personal level, making them open to the notions of orientations and ideas that seem ridiculous, such as continuing to film regardless of the terrifying events that take ... The Tories ResearchPaper The Tories were compiled disgruntled young Irishmen whose ancient hatred for the English coupled with the spectacle of defeat, despair and degradation was sufficient reason to continue resistance . They were led by dispossessed noblemen and Irish officers. They mostly attacked livestock but were not against killing an Englishman once in a while. The English s punishment for Tories was strict and after a band of Tories killed two Protestants in Lackagh, 4 Irishmen were hanged for not preventing the murder and others, including 2 priests and an 80 year old woman were sent to Barbados. Since the Irish usually just took livestock though, the English would just tax the town closest to where the livestock was taken. Frequently, the town could not pay this and this would cause the government to tax the surrounding areas. This in turn would cause many more men to become Tories due the economic strife being inflicted on them by the English. The Issue OfRising College Tuition Essay Throughout this project, I found that working through the Standard Agenda to solve a problem was an effective way for a group to decide upon a solution. Even though our group was unexperienced using the Standard Agenda, we were able to use each other s strengths to improve the quality of our discussion about the issue of rising college tuition. Looking back to previous projects, I can see how our group has grown to better understand the methods of effective group work. While there were both beneficial and impeding forces at work in the task and social processes, I feel that overall our group had a successful problem solving discussion. I believe that our group did a good job for the most part on following the Standard Agenda. We were able to complete steps three through six in roughly fifty one minutes. I feel that we did some portions of the Standard Agenda well but faltered on other sections. Parametric Study OfStability Of Pond Ash Embankments PARAMETRIC STUDY OF STABILITY OF POND ASH EMBANKMENTS ABSTRACT Among various challenges in civil engineering, slope stability and the challenges related are of utmost importance. The failure of a slope may lead to loss of life and property. With the development of modern methods of testing of soils and stability analysis, a safe and economical design of a slope is possible. The technique used in this paper for the analysis of slope is the use of SLOPE/W software. The variations are studied in terms of parametric analysis by varying the parameters such as slope, material, berm width and stages of the embankment. Results show that the factor of safety increases with increase in slope for a particular berm width and stage. It also shows that the factor of safety decreases with increase in stage for a particular slope and berm width. 1. INTRODUCTION The evaluation of stability of slopes in soil is an important problem in the field of geotechnical engineering. The failure of an embankment happens due to geological instability caused by changes to water levels. Most embankments fail due to seepage. Seepage, if uncontrolled can erode fine soil material from the downstream slope or foundation and continue moving towards the upstream slope to form a pipe or cavity to the pond or lake often leading to complete failure of the embankment. Due to the increase in water level scouring of soil may take place which can lead to catastrophic results. Therefore it becomes imperative to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The minimum wage can be defined as an active labor market policy instrument, used by governments around the world to set a wage floor. Plutarch s LifeOf The Heroes Plutarch was a son of the philosopher named Aristobulus. He was born in 46 AD in Chaeronea, Boeotia; and he died in 120 AD. Plutarch was also known as a historian, essayist and biographer who had left a huge literary heritage for humanity. By traveling abroad to other countries such as Egypt, Greece..., Plutarch assembled lots of information about the heroes of the Roman and Greece mythology. Statistics went from 1 in 7 prisoners in 1992 to 1 in 4 in 2012 and to almost 1 in 3 in 2014. There have been an abundance of proposals, plans and programs established, some of which have failed and some which are still in development, to try decrease the high numbers. The high incarceration rate of Indigenous people in Australia is considered to be a global issue that must be addressed. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prison rates The increased severity in the criminal justice system towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is claimed to be the cause for the increasing incarceration rates. The further north they travel from Los Angeles palms and golden beaches, the cities begin to lose their positive, sunny vibes. They go from beach villas to industrial apartments to suburban neighborhoods to run down harbor towns. The positive emotional vibrations emitted from such architecture slowly surrenders its grip on its surroundings to a grim, hopeless one. As new, booming cities fade into sleepy and ancient villages only occupied by drunken sailors and lost tourists, the traveler will soon realize they are in a much less pleasant place as where they originated their journey. Secondly, the traveler will notice the fog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, a dark fog filled the room, the lights flickered. He felt his knees give out as he heard the monitor give out a long, monotone blare. His younger self collapsed to the ground like a ragdoll dropped form a little girl s hand. Another scratch ticket appeared in Allen s hand. God s dice chose her. You couldn t stop it. You never really had control, did you? You have lived your life running from chance, uncertainty, luck. You thought that by running from it, you could avoid it. The door swung open again. The homeless man walked in, holding a lottery ticket. Blood stained his fingerless gloves. His skin was pale and raw, shackles attached to broken chains were wrapped around his neck and wrists. His eyes were glowing white. A pair of horns had sprouted from he head. He read the card aloud, his voice cutting through the air and filling the room like coastal mist. The words reverberated in Allen s skull. He stared down at his hands as his palms bubbled black like tar. He felt vertigo as his neck snapped backwards. His vision turned red. His eyes rolled back. The demonic words played one more time in his head. Hear that? that s the sound your fate. The sound of dice rolling.

Jim Wallis is best known as the founder of a Christian social justice magazine called Sojourns. Wallis describes himself as being an Evangelical Christian and is perceived by many as being a Progressive Evangelical Christian. Jim Wallis is the author of eleven different books including his most recent publication: The (Un) Common Good: How the Gospel Brings Hope to a World Divided. As seen through his writing techniques and styles found throughout Rediscovering Values, Jim Wallis is a strong Christian believer and political activist. Jim Wallis book Rediscovering ... Wallis closes with a list of twenty different ethical exercises for those who want to see a transformation in themselves and also in the way that individuals do things throughout America. This list has been very supportive and attentive to many Americans who have believed in this list of ethical exercises. The ethical exercises are divided into four different sections: individual and family; throughout the community; money, labor, and politics; and grow the modifications. Just by reading this book, I can see that Jim Wallis is a very influential and intriguing person to learn from through his writing style and concern for others. Wallis concludes this book on a rediscovery of our moral values with a fresh definition of labor, a clear objective on a clean and clear cut economy, taking on any type of service as a vocation and actually wanting to perform needs for others, and a discussion about the renovation of the government. In the end, We are still confronted with the fact that three billion people (virtually half of God s children on the planet) still live on less than two dollars a day. ... Rabbit Run byJohn Updike Essay Rabbit Run by John Updike The world of John Updike s Rabbit, Run is a collection of polarities that dramatizes the in betweeness and the constant state of tension that characterizes humanity. A cursory perusal of John Updike s Rabbit, Run reveals a world of hopeless futility in which Harry Angstrom runs in ever tightening circles. Rabbit is always running, from one woman to another, between Brewer and Mt. Judge, between solitude and society. Rabbit is torn because he has faith in something meaningful in the world, somewhere, but he fails to find it during any of his frequent but brief stops. More important than the futile vacuity of Rabbit s world, however, is the fact that he never gives up his quest. He searches through sex, orthodox ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Don t try to be Sally or Johnny or Fred next door; be yourself . Rabbit s life with Janice offends his fastidious nature and he realizes that the clutter behind him in the room the Old fashioned glass with its corrupt dregs, the choked ashtray balanced on the easy chair arm, the rumpled rug, the floppy stacks of slippery newspapers, the kid s toys here and there broken and stuck and jammed, is not Rabbit; yet the disorganized mess clings to his back like a tightening net . He longs for order, neatness, and a straight and clear road ahead. The chaos of his home symbolizes the ugliness and unbearable frustration his life seems to be heading toward. On impulse, Rabbit snatches his car from Janice s parent s house and heads south towards a mythic land of peaceful orderliness on a beach of the Gulf of Mexico. This avenue is spoiled for him, however, when he finds that the regions he travels through resemble the landscape around Brewer, a tight mesh that constricts him. Updike states: At the upper edge of his headlight beams the naked tree twigs make the same net. Indeed the net seems thicker now . Even the songs on the radio remind him of Brewer. His journey, and the map that represents it, begins to seem another trap: The names melt away and he sees the map whole, a net, all those red lines and blue lines and stars, a net he is somewhere caught in . He has an image of himself going right down the middle, right into the broad soft belly of the land . . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Literature SurveyOn Challenges For Efficient High Speed... A LITERATURE SURVEY ON CHALLENGES FOR EFFICIENT HIGH SPEED COMMUNICATION SYSTEM Pramod Patel1, Amit Mishra2 1. Dept of ECE, MTECH student, VITS, JABALPUR, M.P., INDIA, 2 Dept of ECE, H.O.D., VITS, JABALPUR, M.P., INDIA, ABSTRACT: The demands for high bandwidth high speed application are growing at a faster rate and with the minimum tolerance of error. To enhance available bandwidth and improve the quality of transmission convolution codes are used on the OFDM (Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) communication system over AWGN channel. In OFDM (Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) systems with channel equalization play a key role in overcoming distortions caused by phenomena like fading, delay spread and multipath effects. A new framework for designing robust adaptive filters is introduced. A series of review papers were already available to provide a history of the development of the field until the end of the last decade. During survey of work we have found that different authors have developed separate methods to solve the purpose. So from the study of various papers we can easily conclude that there is not any unique method. Hence in this work we come across to develop new adaptive channel equalization OFDM algorithm to solve the purpose using MATLAB. KEYWORDS: LMS, NLMS, OFDM, CONVOLUTIONAL CODING, ISI, Channel estimation. I. INTRODUCTION: These days communication requires a very high rate with high reliability. Two major difficulties that hinder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Family CulturalAnalysis My family mainly originates from the U.K, predominantly Ireland. Both sets of my Grandparents are mainly Irish but they more than likely have English and Scottish ancestry as their parents were from the U.K which consist of Ireland, Scotland, and England. I myself like to think of myself as Irish because, well, let s be honest, the Irish are pretty cool. This fondness of Ireland helped me determine what images to use to represent my heritage and culture, these images consist of the Irish flag, Shepard s Pie, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, and a rainy forest. I choose these images because I thought they portrayed how I perceive my culture and heritage, beginning with the guitars. My Mother s side of the family holds a lot of musicians who played stringed instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, or guitar. I myself play guitar and love stringed instruments, especially ones in a traditional orchestra like double bass, cello, and violins, I also really like folk music which primarily originates from Ireland. ... I love the rain, and woods, it s kind of funny too because my last name is wood, which is an English last name and English last names hold a meaning for what you did and wood was working with wood or in woodlands. Last but not least The Shepard s Pie. Shepherd s pie is a meal my family eats quite a bit that originates in Ireland, it s quite delicious, it s made by cooking ground beef in a Guinness stout with vegetables like corn, peas, and carrots mixed in and having a whole lot of mashed potatoes on the top and lots and lots of cheese on the mashed potatoes. My Irish heritage is something I m quite proud about as it is a very predominate factor in my life from the foods I eat every night or the music I play or listen to basically whenever I have free time, it s something that s a part of ... Girls On TheRun Essay Executive Summary We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience based curriculum which creatively integrates running. This is the mission of the Girls on the Run organization and they strive to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development in girls from the ages of eight to thirteen years old. Their main objective is to educate and empower these girls at their early ages in order to prevent the display of at risk activities such as alcohol abuse, eating disorders, pre marital sexual activity, depression, suicide, and other confrontational behavior in the future. The organization is growing rapidly around the United States and Canada; State College being the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Girls on the run will also provide a constructive use of time as they engage in healthy activities that are physically, emotionally, and socially beneficial. However, because Girls on the Run is a new organization to State College, it is less known and parents and children may be less receptive and willing to enroll in the program. Another weakness that Girls on the Run will face is having the start up funds necessary to host various special events and activities. In addition to analyzing the organizations weaknesses, it is also important to evaluate the opportunities that they can bring to the area. Girls on the Run has the opportunity to introduce a new and innovative program to the State College area that would promote good health and fitness. This is especially important due to the current grow in the child obesity rate. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the percentage of children aged 6 11 years old in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 20% in 2008. In terms of threats, Girls on the Run will have to compete will the other organizations that are held within the various schools that they choose to implement the program in. The State College area school district alone already has more than eighty extracurricular options available for interested students. At the Park Forest Elementary School, some of these activities include K.I.D.S which stands for Kids ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technology is no longer considered to be a special event by students, but is expected to be integrated into the classroom (Koeber 2005). Even with many districts trying to push 21st century technology into the classroom mainly failures still exist. These failures range from lack of achievement increases (Oxford 2006) to struggles with overall plans created by school districts (Owen 2004). The use of technology must be integrated into the classroom. However, many stakeholders that are on the outside looking in do not understand how complex this process can be on teachers and the school districts (Windschitle 2002). It is the purpose of this paper to explore need for technology into classrooms and to explain why this can be such a problem. To represent the need for technology in the classroom 21st century learning styles and successful integration techniques will be used. An argument will be made for why technology has been so hard to correctly integrate. Finally, correct implementation techniques on a district, school, and classroom level will be examined to show that technology can and should be used in today s classroom. Should Fund ProgramsBe Funded The Search For Extra... Understanding the heavens has been a continual mystery to humans. Throughout human history, individuals have been curious about life other than on planet Earth. The question that remains is if humanity is alone in the universe. This question is very important because after all, the universe is still expanding. In addition to the expansion of the universe, astronomers have discovered at least six potential habitable worlds in our own solar system (CITE). It is natural to wonder if other worlds might also have intelligent life and civilizations. Many claims have been made that we have already been visited by aliens in UFOs, however, while plenty of evidence has been offered for scientific examination so far none of it has been enough to convince us that the claims of visitations are real (Bennett, 260). However, this doesn t mean that there is no intelligent life beyond our home planet. Due to this, taxpayers should fund programs to begin the search for extra terrestrial life in the universe. The reason why there should be programs that fund the search for extra terrestrial life in the universe is because extra terrestrial life can help enhance our understanding of the universe. Where ever extra terrestrial beings are located in space they can enhance our understanding of the universe. This is because we are the newcomers in the universe and extra terrestrial beings can potentially be around since the time our universe was created, which was 14 billion years ago (Bennett,1 ). ...
