The Causes And Effects Of CO2 Ocean Acidification
CO2 ocean acidification has become a big problem. This problem started increasing around the
industrial revolution. Since the industrial revolution the ocean has become more acidic by 30%.
Industrial and agricultural activities have released more and more carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere. Studies show that a quarter of all carbon dioxidereleased into the atmosphere is
absorbed into the ocean. As the CO2 levels rise in the atmosphere, the CO2 levels also rise in the
ocean. The CO2 that is absorbed into the ocean changes the chemistry of the ocean making the
water more acidic. This process is called ocean acidification. [1] When the CO2 dissolves into the
water, it mixes with the water (H2O) and creates carbonic acid(H2CO3). This reaction is reversible
and it is a equilibrium. This means that this reaction is balanced and if you add something to
one side the result will come out equal to the other. For example if you added more CO2 the
reaction will produce more H2CO3. Adding more H2CO3 will make Hydrogen and bicarbonate
appear more abundantly. H2CO3 easily breaks down into HCO3 1 (Bicarbonate) and
H+(Hydrogen). Shellfish in the sea rely on calcium carbonate to form their shells. Since there is an
abundance of hydrogen in the ocean, carbonate combines with the hydrogen. Carbonate would
rather combine with hydrogen than calcium. This is why ocean acidification is causing a depletion
in the population of shellfish. [3] Scientist would not have been able to

Abiotic Factors Affecting The Quality Of Life Society
There are several essential factors that contribute to the quality of life society enjoys today. One
of these factors is the ability to produce crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton, and several
others. On occasion these crops experience stressors. These stressors can be from abiotic or biotic
factors. Biotic stressors mainly include insect herbivores, whereas abiotic stressor mainly include
temperature and water or lack thereof. It is vital to understand how cropreact to these stressor in
order to predict and possibly contradict the effect on the crops. When dealing with insect
herbivores the outcome can be devastating. Insects can destroy large amounts of crops. To
prevent insects from destroying crop, insecticides are used as well as transgenic crops are used.
Abiotic factors such as drought can be more difficult. The total amount of semi arid land on
earth is one third, and the rest of the land experiences unexpected drought occasionally (Fang
and Xiong, 2015). This means that nearly all the crops in the world are at risk of experiencing
some kind of water shortage. Due to these abiotic and biotic stressors, and extensive amount of
research has been conducted and is still being conducted to minimize the negative effects. In the
following sections will be an overview of the abiotic and biotic factors along with the crops
response to each, as well as the genetic mechanisms studied to improve a crops ability to cope with
these stressors.

Voting Rights Arguments
The key arguments for returning voting rights to felons and passing the Democracy Restoration Act
(DRA) include advancing democracy, protecting public safety, and eliminating the remnants of Jim
Crow. The DRA would return the right to vote to felons, who are out of jail and living in
communities throughout the United States. This would give 4.3 million more Americans the right to
vote. Supporters of the DRA argue that it advances democracyadding additional voters and
maintains the American principle of inclusion. They also argue that most European countries either
allow votingrights to prisoners or restore them once the prisoners are reincorporated into society.
Proponents of the DRA also contend that it further protects public safety by giving felons an
incentive to avoid committing future crimes. Bringing felons into the political fold rather than
excluding them as political outsiders helps to deter them from committing crimes. They also
argue that the DRA is a key part of the re incorporation process into society for felons and allows
for some hope that continuing to live a crime free life will be rewarded. The DRA also helps to
eliminate some disenfranchisement suffered by the African American community since the days of
slavery and Jim Crow. The fact that African Americans are seven times more likely to be in prison
than Whites and in three states (FL, KY, and VA) 20% of the African Americans have become
disenfranchised is a major problem. The important

Have you ever heard someone say, quot;I hate all music. quot;? Lately though music has been
criticized for corrupting teen s minds. Hip Hop is being blamed for all the crimes and murders in
cities all over America and heavy metal is being blamed for giving teens only dark images and
thoughts in their minds.
First we must ask what Hip Hop is to us or to others, who simply don t know or may never feel
our movement in society. This form of poetry and story telling has took growth from within a

Whether it is to force a change or to create something new deviance is at a strong high. At the dawn
of a new millennium some of society feel the need to express themselves better then the regular
norms and leave our mark on the world. As they say the young ones has more to teach then there
is to learn. If this is so then why is that no one listens to us, but instead they condemn us saying
we are nothing but trouble. The challenges that we are given to don t meet our satisfaction, and
this is why we are stubborn because no one listens to words instead society tries to fix our vision
by drowning our thoughts. Society is often perceived as a rich and fashionable social class
depending on how you want to see it, but to us its just normal people with enough to buy
themselves a mask to hide away from conformity, why hide yourselves, when the hip hop culture
teachers you to be out spoken and strong within yourselves.
The phenomenon of hip hop has spawned a new way of dressing, acting and speaking adopted by
young people, especially males. Hip hop and its music and speech patterns known as hip hop or
rap or gangsta rap has moved out of the ghettos and into suburban middle class neighborhoods,
especially among the young adult of all races in those neighborhoods. Finally, how hip hop/rap

Women s Role In Greek Society
From hunter gathering societies to the Roman Empire, women all over the world have had
varying status. This status has fluctuated based on the culture of each society. Culture itself is
influenced by time, location, need and beliefs of the people. The great contrasts of women s
status can be seen with hunter gatherers, Greek civilizations, and Roman civilizations. It is truly
astounding to see how the same group of people are generally degraded and treated so differently
throughout history. For a long time prior to the first cities and agriculture, humans survived as
hunters and gatherers. In this lifestyle, men and women were both equally valued. Men would
hunt while women gathered and raised children, leading specialists to believe women were even
more voluble than men. As means of production began to evolve, so did the work and equality
between men and women. Men and women took on more laborious jobs, and as the difference
between male and female jobs became more concrete and clear. Men also began to take on a
dominant role... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Athens had distinctions between men and women. Free men were at liberty to
participate in city affairs, it was a duty, where as free women remained limited to domestic duties
and family with no say in public affairs. Women who went against the standard set for them were
looked down upon. It was not custom for men to see women participate in intelligent conversation
publicly with men on political matters. The exception to the Greek city state was Sparta. In Sparta
women had the opportunity to have more freedom. Women were encouraged to be physically fit (in
order to produce strong children), smart and self sufficient. They, like men, would also go nude in
public and even own property in their own name. Undoubtedly the Spartans were considered to

Rockets Research Papers
Rockets

Rockets are amazing machines that are capable of carrying man into space and one day beyond.
This report will cover the history of rockets, how and why they fly, what they are made of, and
the different types of fuel that they use. Rockets have been around for centuries understanding
how they fly, what they are made of, and the kinds of fuel that they use will allow mankind to
make better improvements in the future. The history of rockets dates back centuries to when the
Chinese used them to launch fireworks. Dr. Robert H. Goddard is known as the ,father of
modern rocketry. He was the first man to successfully build and launch a rocket powered by
liquid fuel (American Rocketry Pioneer, 9/25/15). His findings are still used in modern day
rockets all around the world. Ultimately it was his finding that lead to President Nixon s approval
of the space shuttle program in 1972 (Kerod, 2005). Even though Nasa had already been established
they didn t have a space shuttle program. When the first rocket was launched all that was retrieved
was the capsule that carried the astronauts. When a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thrust is a propulsive force that allow something to move (How Thing Fly, 9/25/15). Lift is un
upward movement that acts against gravity. As a rocket travels into space there are two major
factors that work against thrust and lift. These forces are drag and gravity. Drag is the force that
works against thrust it is a pulling or slowing force. Gravity is the downward force that act
against lift; gravity is the downward motion that pulls mass to the earth or some other large mass.
Rockets also have two solid fuel boosters that create a large amount of lift and propulsion to rocket
the shuttle into space (Kerod,2005). Rockets are incredible machines that are capable of traveling

The Cambodian war lasted eight years, from 1967 to 1975, the Cambodian genocide was four
years long starting in 1975 until 1979. According to History, Pol Pot was a political leader whose
communist Khmer Rouge government led Cambodia from 1975 to 1979 (Pol Pot). As shown Pol
Pot was the leader during this time, whether it was in the background or upfront. He believed in
communism and thought it was what was best for Cambodia. However, he didn t follow through
his promises of equality, he treated his citizens brutally, and he destroyed the culture Cambodia
had. These facts prove that he was a bad leader for Cambodia. Pol Pothad promised and had gone

There was one leader of Cambodia during the genocide. Pol Pot was in control of the Khmer
Rouge and the violence that took place during those four horrific years. Pol Pot was not a good
leader because he wasn t able to follow through with what he said, he treated his citizens with
cruelty and without any mercy, and he was responsible for the suppression of many traditions and
an entire culture. With these points and the evidence presented it is clear that Pol Pot was a bad
leader and caused many negative side effects on Cambodia. Cook, Vincent. Pol Pot and the Marxist

Racial Tensions
Racial tensions are high in the United States currently. Donald Trump s campaign has put
Immigration policies on the hot seat. Some of the decisions the Obama administration has made
has come under attack by many media outlets for example, Fox news. Known for its conservative
bias, Fox news constantly releases articles that contain very blatant attacks against immigrants in
the U.S.. One such article, released on October 3rd of this year by author Joseph J. Kolb, headlined
US immigrationpolicies allow gangs to thrive in violence plagued NY community, say critics, is a
particularly good example of how harmful imaginative geographies are formed of the immigration
situation.

Red Sox Religion
There were several elements of religion found in Ben s obsession with the Red Sox which
would include God, salvation, prayer modes, rituals, spirituality and scriptures. The gods in Ben
s obsession was the baseball players. When he went to his first game Ben looked at the players in
awe as if he couldn t believe that they were standing right there in front of him. Ben also
experienced salvation through the Red Sox. Ben s life when he was a young child wasn t the
greatest until he went to Fenway Parkwith his uncle. By going to Fenway Park and becoming a
fan made his whole life better and it was a way to remember his uncle when he passed away.
Going to games every season brought fulfillment to his life. He called the people he sits with at

elements of religion that are present throughout the movie. The substantive is also displayed

Analysis Of The Article Tearing Up The Yellow Pages
David Dunne s article, Tearing Up the Yellow Pages was published March 30, 2010 in The
Mark. In this article, Professor Dunne predicts the almost certain demise of the Yellow Pages as a
printed paper medium. The very title of the article summons up an image of the Yellow Pages
being ripped up and tossed aside, of little use to the savvy, connected consumer of today. As well,
Dunne expresses his doubts as to whether the old school Yellow Pagespersona can be transposed
into a viable option as a digital choice in a technology obsessed world advancing at a rapid, user
driven pace. It is tired old thinking to search for information this way he maintains, and throughout
the article depicts Yellow Pages as a struggling company with an... Show more content on

His writing creates a sense of trepidation, alluding to the feeling of stepping from a dock onto a
boat that might sail away just as we are stepping aboard; this creates a perception of backing
away from the logo and the use of the Yellow Pages. I feel that in it s familiarity, the YP logo
instills instant recognition of what it is and what it can do. The internet by its very existence has
created a state of unpredictability for companies who find themselves in a position where they must
quickly adapt to changes initiated by the world wide web or fall behind. And so it is for Yellow
Pages. The company has recognized that digital business is exploding and has taken steps to re
vamp their website as an attractive and impressive medium filled with articles that entertain and
inform while still providing their key service business information search. Their challenge is to
attract and retain users (www.cbc.ca/player/Radio).
Dunne speaks of economic challenges that threaten the existence of a business; challenges that
require management to question the models that made it successful in the past and states that
businesses cling to their models, particularly at the worst of times. YP is clinging to few models of
the past, and is rapidly reinventing itself, reaching new heights

Writing Themes In The Cold Equations By Tom Godwin
There are countless stories that one can read and forget about the next day, however this is not
one. The Cold Equations by Tom Godwin is such a moving story with so many incorporated
themes that leave an impacting message in the reader s life. I really enjoyed the writing style of
Tom Godwin. He starts with a phrase that gets the reader s attention immediately and gets us
wondering why him not being alone is such a big deal. After this he gives us the answer and
some background information about the frontier and jumps right into the story again. There s a
lot of intensity to start with, but when we are introduced to Marilyn the author gives us some
relief and the way he does this is by using literary language such as similes and metaphors and
sarcasm. I love this contrast because it doesn t stay at one level if not it changes in a way that is
entertaining for the reader and it allows us to want to read more. Not only this, but Tom Godwin
uses a lot of situational and dramatic ironyto add to the intensity and story. Another reason this story
stands out is because of all the themethat is incorporated and not only the fact that there are many
things but the technique used to incorporate the theme. Many stories use the characters difficult
situations or a symbol to introduce theme. On the other hand, Tom Godwin uses situations that the
reader can relate to and not only creates emotion within the characters, but within the reader. Some
themes I came across were: your actions

Jerome Seymour Bruner Essay
Jerome Seymour Bruner is an American psychologist who made signification contributions to
educational, cognitive and developmental psychology. This paper will focus on who Bruner is, his
main theories explained, plus a comparison between Bruner and Piaget and the effectiveness of
Bruners theories in the classroom.
Bruner was born and raised in New York City, Bruner graduated high school in 1933 and went on

pursued a graduate study at Harvard University receiving the MA in 1939 and a Ph.D. in 1941.

The third theme is intuitive thinking, a neglected but important feature of productive thinking.
Careful examinations of the nature of intuitive thinking is a great aid to those in teaching and
effective thinking is supported by the development of self confidence and courage. The fourth
theme is motivation for learning; an interest in the learning material is the best stimulus for
learning and must be kept broad and different in expression. It is important for students to feel
motivated whilst learning, the motives for learning must be based upon as much as possible on
interests. Bruner s work had a profound effect on education, researchers and the students he has
worked with. Bruner (1964) clearly states that his theory is the development of human intellectual
functioning .
A lot of Bruner s work was powered by earlier theoretical research of Vygotsky and Piaget. My
main focus is on the similarities and differences of Bruner and Piaget, as LaFrancois (2000) states
that much of Bruner s work is linked to Piaget. The best theory for this is the theory of
Constructivism. According to Bruning et al. (1999) constructivism is a psychological and
philosophical perspective contending that individuals form or construct much of what they learn
and understand. Constructivism is the philosophy of learning; a

Analysis Of Carl Jung s The Land Of Darkness
Some of the ideas that will be mentioned in this analysis comes from Carl Jung, who talks about
a Horizontal and Vertical Dimension. According to Jung, the Horizontal Dimension is the state
we are in during the most of our lives. It is how we move through life, like getting on the bus to
go to work. We spend our lives learning, working, and dealing with death. Jung talks about how
the Vertical Dimension is spiritual. On this dimension time slows down and even stops. It s the
land of the mythos which is concerned with the timeless, not practical. It can also be the land of
darkness, which Professor Quinn explained is the Batcave. The Batcave contains our fear and
pain that is in each and every one of us. Jung also talks about personality archetypes which are
the ego, persona, and shadow. Jung explained that the ego focuses on logical thought process.
We have to separate from our unconscious. It helps us in the Horizontal Dimension. Persona is
what we want to present to the world. It s how we want to be viewed by other people in our
social lives. The shadow is the darkness within us. Jung also mentioned the need for a spiritual
practice. Which brought up the questions in our lecture, what if you are not religious? What
spiritual practice can we do? Some other ideas that also relate the story include Freud s views of
religion as a childhood neurosis. That we become obsessed with it in order to feel safe. Freud
believed that religion is a way to control our existential anxiety

The location of the volcano is also important. If it is situated on a constructive plate boundary
then it is generally less explosive, and therefore poses different threats to volcanoes situated on a
destructive plate boundary. The volcano may also be situated on a hotspot like in Hawaii, where
the eruptions aren t very explosive. Volcanos which aren t explosive can pose other threats to lava
flows though, such as dangerous gases being released. Like in Lake Nyos, Cameroon where 1700
people died.
Wind direction could also cause difference in the hazards, like during the Eyjafjallajokull eruption
of 2010. If the wind was blowing in a different direction then the ash cloud wouldn t have been
distributed across the Atlantic and Europe, meaning that there would have been a lot less air travel
disruption. Then the ash cloud wouldn t have been a hazard as it wouldn t pose a threat to anyone.
Ultimately physical factors determine which hazards are posed by the volcano and how intensive
and threatening they are to human life. However they are not the sole factors that causes
differences in hazards posed by volcanos.
Settlement is a huge human

Essay on Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is a biochemical process in which plant, algae, and some bacteria harness the
energy of light to produce food. Nearly all living things depend on energy produced from
photosynthesis for their nourishment, making it vital to life on Earth. It is also responsible for
producing the oxygen that makes up a large portion of the EarthВЎВ¦s atmosphere. Factors that
affect photosynthesis are light intensity and wave length, carbon dioxideconcentration, and
temperature.
Plants are autotrophs that mean they are able to synthesize food directly from inorganic
compounds, instead of relying on other organisms. They use carbon dioxide gas and water to
produce sugars and oxygen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The surface of the leaf is uniformly coated with a water resistant waxy cuticle that protects the leaf
from excessive absorption of light and evaporation of water. The transparent, colourless epidermis
layer allows light to pass through to the mesophyll cells where most of the photosynthesis takes
place.
To metabolic pathways involved in photosynthesis are light reaction and dark reaction. The first
stage of the photosynthetic system is the light dependent reaction, which converts solar energy
into chemical energy. Light absorbed by chlorophyll or other photosynthetic pigments is used to
drive a transfer of electrons and hydrogen from water to and acceptor called NADP , reducing it
to the form of NADPH by adding a pair of electrons and a single proton. The water or some other
donor molecule is split in the process. The light reaction also generates ADP, a process called
photophosphorylation. ATP is a versatile source of chemical energy used in most biological
processes. The light reaction produces no carbohydrates such as sugars.
In photosynthesis, the dark reactions are chemical reactions that convert carbon dioxide and other
compounds into glucose. These reactions unlike light dependent reactions do not need light to
occur. These reactions take the products of the light dependent reactions and perform further
chemical processes on

Cryptography Is An Indispensable Tool Of Techniques For...
ABSTRACT
Almost in every field including banking and insurance security and privacy have become the
essence. Many people prefer internet banking because of its convenience. The solution to the
security issues require the use of cryptography in which data is being encrypted and converted to
cipher text and then decrypted to original form on reaching the second party. It is an indispensable
tool for secured communication between two parties in the presence of third party. This article
attempts to introduce the various algorithms which can be successfully used to ensure the security
in banks. These algorithms include Shift algorithm, Polyalphabetic Cipher, Affine Cipher, RSA,
DSA etc.

MATHEMATICAL CRYPTOLOGY IN BANKING SECTOR
Cryptography is an indispensable tool of techniques for the secured communication between two
parties in the presence of third party. A cryptographic algorithm is a mathematical function for
encryption or decryption where encryption is the process of translating plain text/ data into a
random and meaningless (cipher text) data and decryption is the process of converting cipher text
back into plain text. In most of the cases, two functions are involved, one for encryption and the
other for decryption. It is basically about constructing and analyzing protocols which prevents
public from reading the private messages. It is mostly based on mathematical theory and computer
science practice .In the

Polygraph Essay
Polygraph The polygraph test is one of the most controversial criminal investigative techniques of
all time. From the initial years of the invention to today, there is not a consensus about the
investigative tool. That is why there are many people for and against the administration of
polygraph tests. Therefore, in order to develop a clear picture of the polygraphtest the history of the
test must be established. Although, there are many sources that have well documented concerns
about the invention, the polygraph test is still around after almost 80 years.

of the approaches that he administered was the Slim Test. (CourtTV.com) The test involves the

Exploring the Boundaries between Alternative Medicine and...
Alternative medicine has been considered the hidden mainstream of patient care in America. As
biomedicine increased in popularity, alternative methods of healing arose as a response to the
treatments used by physicians. Historically, alternative (or complementary ) medicine conveyed
itself by highlighting its natural attributes. These characteristics attracted those who were wary of
the chemicals used in allopathic medicines. Much of the skepticism that has accompanied
complementary alternative medicine(CAM) stems from the lack of scientifically based evidence
that shows its efficacy; there is no alternative medicinethere is simply unproven medicine
(Fontanarosa and Lundberg 1618). This argument suggests that medicine and... Show more content

The founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann, was originally an MD who regularly practiced
biomedicine in the late 1700s (Whorton 49). Homeopathic ideology involves treating a disease
with cures that produce similar effects as the disease ( same suffering ) as opposed to treating a
disease with substances that are meant to produce opposite effects ( allopathy ) (Whorton 52). As
Hahnemann progressed in his practice as a physician, he began to lose trust in the worth of the
treatments he provided treatments he had been taught would be effective for their target disease.
He claimed that medicine was founded upon perhapses and blind chance and were not tailored to
cure the diseases of individual patients; medicine saw disease as something finite and similarly
experienced across patients with similar illnesses (Whorton 56). Hahnemann believed that
conventional medicine is objective and independent of a patient s perspective of his or her own
disease; it is an impersonal approach to personal problems. For example, a headache could mean
something different to separate individuals because each of them may experience it differently.
Consequently, he made his homeopathic remedies specific to his patients (Whorton 57).
Since the dilutions of homeopathic remedies reached nearly infinitesimal quantities of an actual
drug, many homeopaths believed that some sort of spirit was an

Differentiating Between Market Structures
A market structure in economics describes the state of a market with respect to its competition.
There exist several different market structures like perfect competition, oligopoly, and
monopolies among others. These markets all produce different types of goods or services, like
public and private goods as well as common and collective goods. Firms operating in these
different market structures utilize the labor market in very different ways because of very diverse
uses of labor in each market structure, so it is important for a firm to use the labor market
equilibrium principles to their advantage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different companies operate under different business models and one can see that under some
market forms, firms have no control over price, in others they have the power to adjust price in a
way that adds to its profits. There are different market structures with perfect competition at one end
and pure monopoly at the other. In between are different forms called monopolistic competition
and oligopoly that share some of the characteristics of both perfect competition and a monopoly
competitive structure (Colander, 2013, Chapter 13). Perfect competition exists when products are
homogeneous, and there are many firms too small to have any influence on the market price.
These types of businesses can easily enter and exit the industry. A situation where even one
producer can affect the price of a good by increasing or withholding output is called imperfect
competition. Monopolistic competition exists when many producers of slightly differentiated
products are able to sell them at well above their marginal cost. The core of the argument for
competition is that as long as competition exists in markets no one producer or group of producers
can afford to abuse power by charging too much or by selling bogus goods for fear that consumers
might turn away from them to buy from other producers. In line with that argument one of the
government s tasks is to keep competition alive and functioning. A

commodities: Alluminium, Cardamom, Currency, Gold, Pepper and Zinc) on the Spot Market
Volatility by using the ARCH/GARCH technique. The empirical analysis points towards a rise in
the spot market volatility (for Aluminium, Gold, Pepper and Currency and not for Cardamom and
Zinc) after the introduction of the futures due to increased impact of information symmetry. It is
found that the underlying commodity responds more to the recent news. The lead lag and causal
relationship between the futures trading activity and spot market volatility is also examined. This
is done by using the GRANGER s CAUSALITY TEST.

The Importance Of The Centrality And Power Of Love
The centrality and power of love as experienced by humans has led them to write songs
throughout the ages. It has also resulted in verses and stories about love which they describe as
the indescribable and mysterious force that leads them to the peaks of felicity as well as to the
depths of despair. Love is the ultimate human concern. It is also the object of all human striving as
well as the universal principle engirdling all human activities (Brent Linge 3). The need to examine
and explore love to its very depths has been a major human priority from the beginning of time.
Platos symposiumis an example of a forum, which focuses on myths, and motifs of love. It is an
ancient discourse, which records stories and verses in form of speech by six prominent Athenians.
Their stories depict the nature and function of love. Plato s doctrine of Eros, love is egocentric in
nature. It is also apathetic towards the others. It is destructive and discouraging for people who
crave a comprehensive understanding of authentic love and the love for others God included.
Unlike other Platonic dialogues which cover topics such as conceptions of justice, the nature of
knowledge and the constitution of reality suggested by Parmenides, the symposium takes a
different, rather sentimental approach. Plato strives to link love to philosophy. He demonstrates
that the concept is after all, the handmaiden of philosophy. He takes local and traditional theories of
love and utilizes them to come up with a

Law Enforcement Officer Violation Essay
When a law enforcement officer begins his or her job, they are sworn to uphold the laws of The
United States and the State of which they serve. For most people, that seems like a basic task.
However, once the officer begins the job, they understand that it is a lot more complicated than just
reading a book and determining if the elements of a crimeoccurred, then taking the appropriate
enforcement action. An experienced law enforcement officer knows when it is appropriate to
enforce laws based on the letter of the law or the spirit of the law.

This officer will often consider the circumstances of the cause of the infraction, and base the
enforcement action on not just the elements of the violation, but also the reason the violation
occurred. Many times, an officer acting under the spirit of the law will allow a minor violation to
continue with little to no enforcement action. An officer acting under the spirit of the law may only
flash their lights at a driver who is slightly above the posted speed limit, and when that speed does
constitute more than the quick flash, the officer may initiate a stop and issue a warning. While this
approach can be effective against a negative view of the officer and his/her agency within the

A well rounded officer can find an appropriate balance between enforcing laws based on the letter

Criticism and Analysis of Puddn head Wilson
In American history, we have good authors, great authors and some bad. One of the most famous
authors and probably the greatest that everyone has heard of is Mark Twain. Twain was an
American author and humorist in American Literature. Twain was born in Florida, Missouri, on
November 30, 1835. In his first writing, he adopted his pen name from a well known call of the
man sounding the river in shallow places.
In 1861 he went to Carson City, Nevada, as secretary to his brother. For two years he edited
papers and moved from place to place. In 1867 he visited France, Italy and Palestine. Twains two
greatest masterpieces, Tom Sawyerand Huckleberry Finn were drawn from his childhood
experiences and the life on the Mississippi frontier. Mark Twainhas a legacy as an American author
because of his books like Huckleberry Fin and Pudd nhead Wilson. He put his self in the
American popular culture of literature. Twains novels and stories are popular in the media. His
work has been remade into comic strips, children s films, and cartoons. His image and his words
have also figured in commercial advertising campaigns. He is one of the greatest.

Advantages Of CNC Machining
I.INTRODUCTION
C
NC Machining is a process used in the manufacturing sector that involves the use of computers to
control machine tools. Tools that can be controlled in this manner include lathes, mills, routers and
grinders. The CNC in CNC Machining stands for Computer Numerical Control. On the surface, it
may look like a normal PC controls the machines, but the computer s unique software and control
console are what really sets the system apart for use in CNC machining. Under CNC Machining,
machine tools function through numerical control. A computer program is customized for an object

The program is loaded and finally an operator runs a test of the program to ensure there are no
problems. This trial run is referred to as cutting air and it is an important step because any
mistake with speed and tool position could result in a scraped part or a damaged machine. There
are many advantages to using CNC Machining. The process is more precise than manual
machining, and can be repeated in exactly the same manner over and over again. Because of the
precision possible with CNC Machining, this process can produce complex shapes that would be
almost impossible to achieve with manual machining. CNC Machining is used in the production
of many complex three dimensional shapes. It is because of these qualities that CNC Machining
is used in jobs that need a high level of precision or very repetitive tasks. Other than that, there has
some problem that always occur in CNC machine such as electrical fault, parameter issues, door

useful to have a background in mathematics, industrial arts and mechanical drafting, as well as
computer usage. There are many common problem of CNC Machining such as the material burns

revenge and not out of affection for Damien. January assaulted her by the mere fact of marrying
her. This is satire on the whole theme of courtly love. This feeling of revenge on her part is further
demonstrated in the cuckold scene.
May deceives January quite wickedly in the garden. Yet for the reader we can not fault her for it.
January has that garden for the purpose of licentious behavior. It is there so he can have May

Was Santiago Successful In The Old Man And The Sea
The definition of successful, according to Google, is accomplishing an aim or purpose. Santiago
was successful because he achieved his goals and he was proud of them. Santiago spent a really
long time without catching any fish and when he finally did the wait was worth it. Santiago had to
fight off sharks that were attacking the marlin that he caught and he killed every single one that
came close. In the story, The Old Man and the Sea, Santiago was successful because he caught a
marlin, he killed many sharks, and he stayed strong when he was in pain. Santiago spent much of
his life fishingin the sea. Santiago worked really hard to catch just one fish. He spent eighty four
days just waiting for this fish and when that day came his hard work paid off. He was eighteen
feet from nose to tail, the fisherman who was measuring him called (Hemingway, 2003, p. 123).
Santiago s effort paid off because he reached his goal of catching one fish and he surprised

After catching the marlin and attaching it to the side of the boat Santiago saw that sharks
smelled blood from the fish and were chasing him so he had to figure out a way to kill them with
items on the ship. The line showed clearly on the top of his brown head and back where the brain
joined the spinal cord and the old man drove the knife on the oar into the juncture, withdrew it, and
drove it in again into the shark s yellow cat like eyes. The shark let go of the fish and slid down,
swallowing what he had taken as he died (Hemingway, 2003, p. 108). The old man tied his knife
to his boat s oar to stab the sharks that were quickly coming for the fish. His method worked,
however, his weapon eventually broke and he had to use another object to kill other sharks.
Santiago killed sharks before they took his fish and killed him, thus making him successful because

The Building Of Western Civilization
The Building of Western Civilization:
An Environmental Rebirth
Author s Note: This is a renovation of The Collapse of Western Civilization: A View from the
Future by Naomi Oreskes Erik M. Conway. This smaller version of a semi fictional essay is meant
to be taken as a parallel universe to what they imaged, but with one vital difference; immediate
action is taken in an effort to limit the damage from climate change. In this version, the children of
Enlightenment take action to address the serious issue of climate change, but still have to deal with
the damage already done by greenhouse gas emissions and a vast corporate world that opposes
every change suggested.
In the early twenty first century the United States was acutely aware of climate change and the
human effects that contributed to its growth. There were climate models that predicted a
variable increase in the global temperature of 4.5 degrees Fahrenheit by the year 2100, as well as
a rise in sea level between 1 and 4 feet.1 According to these models, CO2 emissions started to
increase at the same time as the Industrial Revolution in the late eighteenth century. The increase
in factory machinery as well as land use both caused a spike in the emission levels. Humanity had
a larger effect on climate change then was ever deemed possible and it was documented,
understood, and fought by many. Between 2000 and 2016, a number of think tanks arose that took
on a single minded mission to spread the seed of doubt among

Essay On Alcatraz
The Alcatraz federal prison, located on the San Francisco island of the same name, was dubbed
escape proof during its years of operation from 1934 1963 and was designed to hold the worst
criminals in America (Timeline: Alcatraz Escape Attempts). During its 29 years, Alcatraz held most
prisoners without incident, but there were still 14 escape attempts (Timeline...Attempts). June 11,
1962 marks one of the most sensationalized attempts by Frank Morris, John Anglin, and Clarence
Anglin(The Great Escape from Alcatraz). Although officials said the inmates drowned, many claim
they escaped and lived as fugitives (The...Alcatraz). In order to investigate the aforementioned
belief, my group defined a successful escape as getting off Alcatraz, making... Show more content

For example, a 1962 San Francisco Chronicle article Con s Daring Swim Kills The Myth argued
John Paul Scott s swim from Alcatraz Island to Fort Point destroyed...the official position that
escape from the Federal Prison is impossible (p. 1). The publication used Scott s case to apply it
to that of Morris and the Anglins, arguing that if Scott could swim across the bay and survive,
then Morris and the Anglins could, too. All the information is credible because it comes from a
local, primary source, The San Francisco Chronicle. However, the source is not relevant because
Scott s attempt was in December, not June like Morris and the Anglins, and this change in time
would affect weather conditions between cases (The...Alcatraz). Additionally, San Francisco
police apprehended Scott once he reached Fort Point, so he did not fit under our group s

connections between Scott s case and Morris and the Anglins case are too

Illustration and Color in Margaret Wise Brown’s...
The Importance of Illustration and Color in Margaret Wise Brown s Children s Books
Margaret Wise Brown s The Runaway Bunny is probably one of the most popular children s
books of the last two generations. Readers love the gentle magic of the words, and loving pictures.
The illustrations of Brown s children s books fulfill the concerns and emotions of the child reader.
Clement Hurd was the illustrator of The Runaway Bunny, Goodnight Moon, and many of his own
books. The Dream Book is another children s book written by Brown and illustrated by Richard
Floethe. Floethe has a very different style of illustration than Hurd. Floethe has illustrated many of
Brown s books and has won many awards. Although done by different illustrators they ... Show

There are also a lot of cool colors in this book such as blue and green which help to create more of
a dream like vision.
Clement Hurd s style of illustrations looks like they were painted and also have very warm colors
such as yellow and orange. The bright colors and activity of the pictures look like images that you
may see in a Saturday morning cartoon. There is an illustration in this book which has the mother
carrying a basket and a gardening tool. She is wearing bright blue overalls with a bright red hat.
The flowers are bright yellow, red, pink, and white. These bright colors are present throughout the
book. This story is about an adventure that the little bunny takes showing pictures of him on a
stormy sea and in a circus show.
By looking at the pictures in each of these books it is easy to see that the authors adapt the colors
to help convey the storyline. In The Runaway Bunny the colors are very lively and rich in their
tones. These types of colors help with the adventurous and exciting storyline. There are not
many dark colors in this story which I also think is saying that this is not supposed to be a scary
adventure story. In The Dream Book, the colors are very dark and bold. There are many dark
night skies and I think that this helps to convey a story of dreams and bedtime. Children hear this
story and feel relaxed and ready to close their eyes after a long day of fun.

Significant Developments From The Welfare State
Identify and explain two significant developments resulting from the welfare state.
The NHS came around in July 5, 1948. The Health Minister Aneurin (also known as Nye) Bevan
purely nationalised the existing system across the UK. The groundbreaking change was to make
all services freely available to everyone. Half of Scotland s landmass was already covered by a state
funded health system serving the entire community and directly run from Edinburgh. Additionally,
the war years had seen a state funded hospital building programme in Scotland on a scale
unknown in Europe. This was combined into the new NHS. Scotland also had its own individual
medical tradition, this is centred on its medical schools rather than private practice. The
legislation that empowered the UK to have the NHS is National Health Service Act (1948), this
despite opposition from doctors, who maintained on the right to continue treating some patients
privately. The NHS ensured that Doctors, hospital, dentists, opticians, ambulances, midwives and
health visitors were available, free to everybody. This Reason why we have health services is
because it developments a view that health care was a right, not something given unreliably by
charity, also two party s agreement that the existing services were in a mess and had to be sorted
out, it stopped financial difficulties for the voluntary hospitals and After the second world war it
ensured the creation of an emergency medical service as part of the war effort

Positive Messages On Business Communication
Positive Messages in Business Communication
Introduction
Business communication requires avenues through which leaders, management, and workers
communicate. It also requires the communication process between an organization and its partners,
as well as the customers. In business communication, it is vital for an organization to develop a
communication channel that is not only efficient and effective, but one that relays positive
messages. Positive messages are crucial in developing good relationships with the employees,
business partners, and customers. Research shows that we actually comprehend a positive
statement 30 to 40 percent faster than we do a negative statement, our mind literally has to
unscramble negative messages to determine the meaning (Simoneaux Stroud, 2014). There is a
power in using positive messages, a strategy in building relationships and producing positive
results. When using positive messaging it is beneficial to use the 5 S s, and goodwill messaging.
The 5 S s are; selfless, specific, sincere, spontaneous, and short. This paper looks into the effects of
positive messaging, with an emphasis on goodwill messages, and the 5 S s.
Goodwill Messages In business, companies normally experience internal and external pressures
that may keep them from making various goals. For instance, a company may fail to repay its
loans on time, or fail to pay its workers as required. It is also common for companies to make late
deliveries of products to the

The film Smoke Signals uses both humor and music to help give Thomas more importance as
supposed to the book, where Thomas was a rather stagnant character. This is shown in the way the
music is played in the background while Thomas is telling his stories, which helps us to view
them in a different light breathing a new life into Thomas s character. Similarly humor is used in
the same manner, in which it helps to make Thomas character more relatable to the viewers. Also
in the movie, aside from the subtle change in his storytelling, we also get to see more of a
development in Thomas character, and how his actions help to change and influence those around
him; most noticeably Victor. This type of deep personal development is not seen with Thomas...

Rainforests have been declining rapidly over the last few decades. There are various factors
responsible for this decline, resulting in serious impacts on the environment and the economy.
Critically discuss the causes of deforestation and solutions to it. Deforestation is the cutting down
of a large area of trees and the destruction of forests by people. Forests are what we call an
exhaustible resource, one which can be used up if it is not used carefully. Over the last few
decades, deforestationhas threatened the rainforests with total extinction. To understand why
deforestation is such an important issue, you first have to understand why trees matter. Trees

Many private agents, according to these studies, have no interest in maintaining the forest s beauty
and biodiversity, as services provided by forests are benefits that cannot be priced, so are not profit
making.
Another factor precipitating deforestation appears to be poverty. Commonly held views argue that
high discount rates received by poor countries are a cause of deforestation (The World Bank
Forestry Policy 1991, Pearce and Watford 1993.). Because forests imply long gestation; private
agents, particularly from the poorest countries, value what they can get immediately from forests
more than what they can get in the future. But in 1999, Ekbom and Bojo challenged those views in
a World Bank examination by showing that poverty does not necessarily lead to shorter time
horizons and an increased rate of environmental degradation. They show how in fact the rural poor
have used resources in a conservationist manner over a long period spanning centuries. Ostrom
(1990), one of the various analysts they quoted, established a number of conditions that would lead
to long term use of common resources despite their short time

Two Theory Of Wellbeing
The first theory of well being is the mental state theory. This theory argues that one s mental state is
the sole source of their wellbeing, regardless of the actual content of their life. A subtype of the
mental state theory is welfare hedonism. This view posits that wellbeing comes from the amount of
pleasure one experiences in their life. By adding up the amount of pleasure one experiences and
subtracting the pain they experience, one is able to calculate their total wellbeing . There are
different subtypes of hedonism, from psychological to ethical hedonism. Additionally, quantitative
hedonists argue that all pleasures are equally valuable, where qualitative hedonists argue that some

This theory argues that wellbeing comes from the actualization of one s preferences in their life.
These theorists argue that it does not matter what one prefers or desires out of their life or the
universe. All that matters is that these preferences or desires are satisfied. For example, if someone
desires to live in a certain country, then moving there will satisfy their preference and therefore lead
to individual well being. Preference theorists are categorized into ideal preference theorists and
actual preference theorists. Ideal theorists differentiate one s current desires with their ideal ones, or
the desires they would have in a perfect universe Actual preference theorists believe that whether or

Essay on Al Capone Biography
When I sell liquor, they call it bootlegging. When my patrons serve it on silver trays on Lake
Shore Drive, they call it hospitality. Al Capone [Woog, 25]
Al Capone was one of the most notorious gangsters during the 1920 s. He was a self made
business man. He had a ready smile and a quick handshake, which if you did not play your cards
right, could turn out to be fatal. It took 500 gangland murders to make Capone the boss of Chicago.
He was public enemy number one. Capone single handedly gave Chicago the nickname The
Lawless City.

He had everything to do with anything that involved gambling, sex, or alcohol.
Once Capone had everything he wanted in Chicago, he realized he was highly disliked by the
whole country because he began to hear comments on the street and in the newspapers.
Although he often did business with Capone, the mayor William Big Bull Hale Thompson,
wanted Capone out of Chicago because Capone was bad for Thompson s political image. So the
mayor hired a new police chief to run Capone out of the city, and he personally saw Capone out of
the city. Capone looked all over for a new location and he decided to move to an estate in Palm
Island, Florida in 1928.
Once Capone was out of the city, attempts on Capone s life were becoming regular but he had
connections with newspapers and policemen so he quickly found out about the plots. He, on the
other hand, was very discrete and clever about his murders. He would always have an alibi,
because he himself would rarely do the murdering.
His most notorious murder was the St. Valentine s Day massacre. On February 14, 1928, four of
Capone s men entered a garage of the Main Liquor warehouse for bootlegger George Bugs
Moran s North Side Gang. When the men entered the garage two of Capone s men were dressed
as police officers and therefore the North Side Gang dropped their weapons. When they did Capone

Creationism vs. Evolution Essay
Where we come from is a question as old as mankind itself. There are countless numbers of
religions, each with their own twist on the origins of earth and mankind, but one of the most highly
visible debates would be creationism vs. evolution. Depending on where your beliefs lie, the Earth
has been around somewhere in the neighborhoodof 6,000 years to 4.5 billion years. One would
tend to believe that this vast difference in time would make it impossible to have 2 theories that
are so widely accepted. However this debate gives you just that. Each argument has its variations,
however it comes down to either God created the Earth and all things in it as they are now or that
life today has evolved from a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under the same idea, the Old Earth train of thought is that the days mentioned in Genesis were
actually up to many millions of years each. This is one of many theories that justifies the actual
age of the Earth being around 4.5 billion years old. The third view states that the story of
creation contained in Genesis is not a literal or even a chronological account of happenings. It is
instead a guide promoting a six day workweek with the seventh day a day of worship to God. The
last view is much like the second, in that it considers the days to be God s workdays, which may
or may not be equal to an Earth calendar day. Each day represents a period of time that God
performed a major task. Each view has the same underlying concept that God created everything,
and the way it is today, it the way it was when it was created.
Webster s Dictionary defines evolution as a theory that the various types of animals and plants have
their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to
modification in successive generations. Like creation, evolution is not immune from differing of
opinions. Evolution is split between two frames of though, naturalistic and theistic.
Naturalistic evolution is pretty much cut and dry. It simply states that life started as a single one
celled organism. The universe was created 14 billion years ago, and the Earth was

Response Structure
Creating an emergency response plan is very important in any business. There are different plans
for medical, fire, police, and school. The following plans are imperative in any environment. There
are many things that will happen and Incident Command System (ICS) will help to provide the
responders with an effective system that works. But before we go into the structures, an
understanding of an incident command system needs to be addressed.
According to OSHA, n.d., ICS is a standardized on scene incident management concept designed
specifically to allow responders to adopt an integrated organizational structure equal to the
complexity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allows hospitals to know how many beds they are going to need. Demobilization is the next
level. In this level, the responders are either sent back to the area they came from, set back in
service after they transport a victim, or they are cancelled all together. The last level is
termination. In this level, the incident commander decides that no further action is required and
everyone is sent back to their units. The next thing we need to look at are the responsibilities of
the incident commander. The first one, according to FEMA, 1999, is to rescue all victims. The
second is making sure the victims are taken out of the situation and moved to a medical facility.
And the third is to make sure the personnel are safe.
Next we will look at fire and rescue. The organization of the incident command is almost the same
as the medical responders. According to Fire and Rescue, 2008, the following are the organizational
areas for fire and rescue: Organization on the incident ground, this gives the Incident Commander a
recognized system from which to work when organizing and using resources at an Incident, Incident
Risk Management, the principal consideration of Incident Commanders is safety of their personnel.
Therefore, prior to deciding upon the tactics an assessment of risk must be performed. The Incident
Commander must identify the hazards, assess the risks, and implement all reasonable control
measures before committing crews into a risk area,

  • 2. The Causes And Effects Of CO2 Ocean Acidification CO2 ocean acidification has become a big problem. This problem started increasing around the industrial revolution. Since the industrial revolution the ocean has become more acidic by 30%. Industrial and agricultural activities have released more and more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Studies show that a quarter of all carbon dioxidereleased into the atmosphere is absorbed into the ocean. As the CO2 levels rise in the atmosphere, the CO2 levels also rise in the ocean. The CO2 that is absorbed into the ocean changes the chemistry of the ocean making the water more acidic. This process is called ocean acidification. [1] When the CO2 dissolves into the water, it mixes with the water (H2O) and creates carbonic acid(H2CO3). This reaction is reversible and it is a equilibrium. This means that this reaction is balanced and if you add something to one side the result will come out equal to the other. For example if you added more CO2 the reaction will produce more H2CO3. Adding more H2CO3 will make Hydrogen and bicarbonate appear more abundantly. H2CO3 easily breaks down into HCO3 1 (Bicarbonate) and H+(Hydrogen). Shellfish in the sea rely on calcium carbonate to form their shells. Since there is an abundance of hydrogen in the ocean, carbonate combines with the hydrogen. Carbonate would rather combine with hydrogen than calcium. This is why ocean acidification is causing a depletion in the population of shellfish. [3] Scientist would not have been able to ... • 3. Abiotic Factors Affecting The Quality Of Life Society There are several essential factors that contribute to the quality of life society enjoys today. One of these factors is the ability to produce crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton, and several others. On occasion these crops experience stressors. These stressors can be from abiotic or biotic factors. Biotic stressors mainly include insect herbivores, whereas abiotic stressor mainly include temperature and water or lack thereof. It is vital to understand how cropreact to these stressor in order to predict and possibly contradict the effect on the crops. When dealing with insect herbivores the outcome can be devastating. Insects can destroy large amounts of crops. To prevent insects from destroying crop, insecticides are used as well as transgenic crops are used. Abiotic factors such as drought can be more difficult. The total amount of semi arid land on earth is one third, and the rest of the land experiences unexpected drought occasionally (Fang and Xiong, 2015). This means that nearly all the crops in the world are at risk of experiencing some kind of water shortage. Due to these abiotic and biotic stressors, and extensive amount of research has been conducted and is still being conducted to minimize the negative effects. In the following sections will be an overview of the abiotic and biotic factors along with the crops response to each, as well as the genetic mechanisms studied to improve a crops ability to cope with these stressors. • 4. Voting Rights Arguments The key arguments for returning voting rights to felons and passing the Democracy Restoration Act (DRA) include advancing democracy, protecting public safety, and eliminating the remnants of Jim Crow. The DRA would return the right to vote to felons, who are out of jail and living in communities throughout the United States. This would give 4.3 million more Americans the right to vote. Supporters of the DRA argue that it advances democracyadding additional voters and maintains the American principle of inclusion. They also argue that most European countries either allow votingrights to prisoners or restore them once the prisoners are reincorporated into society. Proponents of the DRA also contend that it further protects public safety by giving felons an incentive to avoid committing future crimes. Bringing felons into the political fold rather than excluding them as political outsiders helps to deter them from committing crimes. They also argue that the DRA is a key part of the re incorporation process into society for felons and allows for some hope that continuing to live a crime free life will be rewarded. The DRA also helps to eliminate some disenfranchisement suffered by the African American community since the days of slavery and Jim Crow. The fact that African Americans are seven times more likely to be in prison than Whites and in three states (FL, KY, and VA) 20% of the African Americans have become disenfranchised is a major problem. • 6. Women s Role In Greek Society From hunter gathering societies to the Roman Empire, women all over the world have had varying status. This status has fluctuated based on the culture of each society. Culture itself is influenced by time, location, need and beliefs of the people. The great contrasts of women s status can be seen with hunter gatherers, Greek civilizations, and Roman civilizations. It is truly astounding to see how the same group of people are generally degraded and treated so differently throughout history. For a long time prior to the first cities and agriculture, humans survived as hunters and gatherers. In this lifestyle, men and women were both equally valued. Men would hunt while women gathered and raised children, leading specialists to believe women were even more voluble than men. As means of production began to evolve, so did the work and equality between men and women. Men and women took on more laborious jobs, and as the difference between male and female jobs became more concrete and clear. Men also began to take on a dominant role... The history of rockets dates back centuries to when the Chinese used them to launch fireworks. Dr. Robert H. Goddard is known as the ,father of modern rocketry. He was the first man to successfully build and launch a rocket powered by liquid fuel (American Rocketry Pioneer, 9/25/15). His findings are still used in modern day rockets all around the world. The very title of the article summons up an image of the Yellow Pages being ripped up and tossed aside, of little use to the savvy, connected consumer of today. • 12. Writing Themes In The Cold Equations By Tom Godwin There are countless stories that one can read and forget about the next day, however this is not one. The Cold Equations by Tom Godwin is such a moving story with so many incorporated themes that leave an impacting message in the reader s life. I really enjoyed the writing style of Tom Godwin. He starts with a phrase that gets the reader s attention immediately and gets us wondering why him not being alone is such a big deal. After this he gives us the answer and some background information about the frontier and jumps right into the story again. There s a lot of intensity to start with, but when we are introduced to Marilyn the author gives us some relief and the way he does this is by using literary language such as similes and metaphors and sarcasm. I love this contrast because it doesn t stay at one level if not it changes in a way that is entertaining for the reader and it allows us to want to read more. Not only this, but Tom Godwin uses a lot of situational and dramatic ironyto add to the intensity and story. Another reason this story stands out is because of all the themethat is incorporated and not only the fact that there are many things but the technique used to incorporate the theme. Many stories use the characters difficult situations or a symbol to introduce theme. On the other hand, Tom Godwin uses situations that the reader can relate to and not only creates emotion within the characters, but within the reader. Some themes I came across were: your actions ... • 17. Analysis Of Carl Jung s The Land Of Darkness Some of the ideas that will be mentioned in this analysis comes from Carl Jung, who talks about a Horizontal and Vertical Dimension. According to Jung, the Horizontal Dimension is the state we are in during the most of our lives. It is how we move through life, like getting on the bus to go to work. We spend our lives learning, working, and dealing with death. Jung talks about how the Vertical Dimension is spiritual. On this dimension time slows down and even stops. It s the land of the mythos which is concerned with the timeless, not practical. It can also be the land of darkness, which Professor Quinn explained is the Batcave. The Batcave contains our fear and pain that is in each and every one of us. Jung also talks about personality archetypes which are the ego, persona, and shadow. Jung explained that the ego focuses on logical thought process. We have to separate from our unconscious. It helps us in the Horizontal Dimension. Persona is what we want to present to the world. It s how we want to be viewed by other people in our social lives. The shadow is the darkness within us. Jung also mentioned the need for a spiritual practice. Analyse the factors that causes differences in the hazards posed by volcanoes around the world (40 marks) A hazard can be define as something which poses a level of threat the life, health, property or environment, a volcano can compromise all these things through the many hazards volcanoes presents. Such as lahars, flash flooding, landslides, pyroclastic flows, ash clouds and many others. There are factors which can influence the severity of the hazard and cause differences in them and can be classified into different categories, such as physical, economic, political and social. Another physical factor is snow; if a volcano is snow capped, like Eyjafjallajokull, then the lahars and flash floods become a greater hazard. The flooding in Iceland in 2010 caused 700 people to be evacuated. Without the snow then lahars and floods may not be a problem at all. The location of the volcano is also important. If it is situated on a constructive plate boundary then it is generally less explosive, and therefore poses different threats to volcanoes situated on a destructive plate boundary. The volcano may also be situated on a hotspot like in Hawaii, where the eruptions aren t very explosive. Volcanos which aren t explosive can pose other threats to lava flows though, such as dangerous gases being released. Like in Lake Nyos, Cameroon where 1700 people died. Wind direction could also cause difference in the hazards, like during the Eyjafjallajokull eruption of 2010. If the wind was blowing in a different direction then the ash cloud wouldn t have been distributed across the Atlantic and Europe, meaning that there would have been a lot less air travel disruption. Then the ash cloud wouldn t have been a hazard as it wouldn t pose a threat to anyone. Ultimately physical factors determine which hazards are posed by the volcano and how intensive and threatening they are to human life. However they are not the sole factors that causes differences in hazards posed by volcanos. Settlement is a huge human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To metabolic pathways involved in photosynthesis are light reaction and dark reaction. The first stage of the photosynthetic system is the light dependent reaction, which converts solar energy into chemical energy. Light absorbed by chlorophyll or other photosynthetic pigments is used to drive a transfer of electrons and hydrogen from water to and acceptor called NADP , reducing it to the form of NADPH by adding a pair of electrons and a single proton. The water or some other donor molecule is split in the process. The light reaction also generates ADP, a process called photophosphorylation. ATP is a versatile source of chemical energy used in most biological processes. The light reaction produces no carbohydrates such as sugars. These reactions take the products of the light dependent reactions and perform further chemical processes on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As biomedicine increased in popularity, alternative methods of healing arose as a response to the treatments used by physicians. Historically, alternative (or complementary ) medicine conveyed itself by highlighting its natural attributes. These characteristics attracted those who were wary of the chemicals used in allopathic medicines. The founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann, was originally an MD who regularly practiced biomedicine in the late 1700s (Whorton 49). As Hahnemann progressed in his practice as a physician, he began to lose trust in the worth of the treatments he provided treatments he had been taught would be effective for their target disease. He claimed that medicine was founded upon perhapses and blind chance and were not tailored to cure the diseases of individual patients; medicine saw disease as something finite and similarly experienced across patients with similar illnesses (Whorton 56). Hahnemann believed that conventional medicine is objective and independent of a patient s perspective of his or her own disease; it is an impersonal approach to personal problems. For example, a headache could mean something different to separate individuals because each of them may experience it differently. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Different companies operate under different business models and one can see that under some market forms, firms have no control over price, in others they have the power to adjust price in a way that adds to its profits. There are different market structures with perfect competition at one end and pure monopoly at the other. In between are different forms called monopolistic competition and oligopoly that share some of the characteristics of both perfect competition and a monopoly competitive structure (Colander, 2013, Chapter 13). Perfect competition exists when products are homogeneous, and there are many firms too small to have any influence on the market price. These types of businesses can easily enter and exit the industry. A situation where even one producer can affect the price of a good by increasing or withholding output is called imperfect competition. Monopolistic competition exists when many producers of slightly differentiated products are able to sell them at well above their marginal cost. The core of the argument for competition is that as long as competition exists in markets no one producer or group of producers can afford to abuse power by charging too much or by selling bogus goods for fear that consumers might turn away from them to buy from other producers. In line with that argument one of the government s tasks is to keep competition alive and functioning. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Love is the ultimate human concern. It is also the object of all human striving as well as the universal principle engirdling all human activities (Brent Linge 3). The need to examine and explore love to its very depths has been a major human priority from the beginning of time. • 40. Advantages Of CNC Machining I.INTRODUCTION C NC Machining is a process used in the manufacturing sector that involves the use of computers to control machine tools. Tools that can be controlled in this manner include lathes, mills, routers and grinders. The CNC in CNC Machining stands for Computer Numerical Control. On the surface, it may look like a normal PC controls the machines, but the computer s unique software and control console are what really sets the system apart for use in CNC machining. Under CNC Machining, machine tools function through numerical control. A computer program is customized for an object and the machines are programmed with CNC machining language (called G code) that essentially controls all features like feed rate, coordination, location ... This trial run is referred to as cutting air and it is an important step because any mistake with speed and tool position could result in a scraped part or a damaged machine. There are many advantages to using CNC Machining. The process is more precise than manual machining, and can be repeated in exactly the same manner over and over again. Because of the precision possible with CNC Machining, this process can produce complex shapes that would be almost impossible to achieve with manual machining. CNC Machining is used in the production of many complex three dimensional shapes. It is because of these qualities that CNC Machining is used in jobs that need a high level of precision or very repetitive tasks. Other than that, there has some problem that always occur in CNC machine such as electrical fault, parameter issues, door and safety interlocks and others. If you are considering a career in CNC Machining, it would be useful to have a background in mathematics, industrial arts and mechanical drafting, as well as computer usage. There are many common problem of CNC Machining such as the material burns on outside edge, the material burns on outside edge, the material burns on internal corners of mould, the tool is burnt, burnt edges of holes, raised mark along edge of moulding, rough edge, cutter marks visible, component moves sideways and component not the correct ... Both are young women who have married men much older than themselves. They both become involved with young, manipulative men. They also conspire to and do cuckold their husbands. This is not what marriage is about and it is demonstrated in both tales. What makes the Miller s Tale bawdy comedy and the Merchant s tale bitter satire is in the characterization. It is easy to see that her motivation for adultery is really one of revenge and not out of affection for Damien. January assaulted her by the mere fact of marrying her. This is satire on the whole theme of courtly love. This feeling of revenge on her part is further demonstrated in the cuckold scene. May deceives January quite wickedly in the garden. Yet for the reader we can not fault her for it. January has that garden for the purpose of licentious behavior. It is there so he can have May sexually in the way he wants her. She ... The Building Of Western Civilization The Building of Western Civilization: An Environmental Rebirth Author s Note: This is a renovation of The Collapse of Western Civilization: A View from the Future by Naomi Oreskes Erik M. Conway. This smaller version of a semi fictional essay is meant to be taken as a parallel universe to what they imaged, but with one vital difference; immediate action is taken in an effort to limit the damage from climate change. In this version, the children of Enlightenment take action to address the serious issue of climate change, but still have to deal with the damage already done by greenhouse gas emissions and a vast corporate world that opposes every change suggested. In the early twenty first century the United States was acutely aware of climate change and the human effects that contributed to its growth. There were climate models that predicted a variable increase in the global temperature of 4.5 degrees Fahrenheit by the year 2100, as well as a rise in sea level between 1 and 4 feet.1 According to these models, CO2 emissions started to increase at the same time as the Industrial Revolution in the late eighteenth century. The increase in factory machinery as well as land use both caused a spike in the emission levels. The Health Minister Aneurin (also known as Nye) Bevan purely nationalised the existing system across the UK. The groundbreaking change was to make all services freely available to everyone. Half of Scotland s landmass was already covered by a state funded health system serving the entire community and directly run from Edinburgh. Additionally, the war years had seen a state funded hospital building programme in Scotland on a scale unknown in Europe. This was combined into the new NHS. Scotland also had its own individual medical tradition, this is centred on its medical schools rather than private practice. The legislation that empowered the UK to have the NHS is National Health Service Act (1948), this despite opposition from doctors, who maintained on the right to continue treating some patients privately.
