The Argument Behind The Torts Of Trespass
The rationale behind the torts of trespass to the person are that they protect the inviolability of
personal freedom and the right of self determination within the confines of the law subject to the
necessary demands of the law giving freedom from harassment and false imprisonment. The area of
law in question is trespass to the person and whether the persons mentioned in the scenario have
Liability under this trespass for various acts they may or may not have committed. Simon, Mel and the
caretaker are victims or not liable for any torts. Consideration will be given for the liability of the
persons in this scenario Sharon, Cheryl and the Surgeon who have potentially committed the
following torts; Assault Battery Harassment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The case of Ireland extended the notion that a physical act is not required when it was decided that
subjecting someone to silent phone calls could means assault could be enough. One could presume
that future judges could extend that notion to other silent means. The effect of the defendant s action
must be to produce a state of fear of immediate unlawful violence. The fear that is produced must
however be reasonable immediate as in Thomas where threats by pickets to miners on a bus were not
assault because the threat was not immediate due to the separation between the two sides and thus had
no means to carry out the threat. Individual liability will now be examined Sharon s threat to bitch slap
Cheryl good and proper could amount to an assault as it is a clear and intentional threat of a battery to
Sharon. Costanza held that threats and words can amount to an assault without the need for menacing
movements to be the sole cause of harm. Sharon s statement were it not for the presence of other staff
would be sufficient to avoid liability Turberville, she does not have the intent to carry out the threat
immediately which negates potential liability for battery as in Thomas Battery The definition of
battery is an act of the defendant that directly causes and intentionally or negligently causes some
physical contact with the person of the claimant without

The Odyssey, Medea, And Oedipus The King
While our class has been covering different aspects of Greek civilization, I was assigned to read the
literature from that time period. Some examples of the literature I read was The Iliad, The Odyssey,
Medea, and Oedipus The King. These readings show direct relations to the concepts and ideas that
occurred in Greek civilization during this time in history. Some of the recurring themes throughout
these stories are religion, philosophy, and hospitality. Polytheism, fate, and hospitality towards others
are some of the important concepts that were held by the Greeks. The religious views of the Greek
civilization is evident throughout the literature of that time period. The Greeks were known to have
been a Polytheistic people, who believed in multiple gods/goddesses. They believed these gods
constantly interfered with their lives, both in good and bad ways, which is shown in the literature. Not
only do the characters pray or converse with these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One important value the Greeks held was hospitality. In The Odyssey, Odysseus travels through many
different places. As he encounters new people, they often welcome him in immediately. In fact,
hospitality was so common that whenever Odysseus encounters the island inhabited by cyclops, he
assumes he is welcome and begins to eat their food and drink. The concept of hospitality in the literary
works connects not only to their civilization in general, but specifically connects with their religious
beliefs. I believe it is possible that the Greeks gave hospitality to others on behalf of their
gods/goddesses rather than just out of kindness. One example of this would be in the Iliad, where
Achilles welcomes in other men such as Odysseus to his hut and prepares them food. He does this
before asking about their intentions. This seems a little weird by today s standards, as this happened
before Achilles had joined their side in

Various Types Of Occupational Fraud
Types of Fraud
The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners displays what is known as the Fraud Tree. It is a
representation of the three major types of occupational fraud (www.acfe.com). Occupational fraud is
any scheme that involves employees taking cash, resources, or misapplies assets of the business for
their personal gain (www.smartceo.com).
Type I: Corruption
Corruption is an intentional, dishonest act where an employee abuses their position in the company for
personal gain (www.curtin.edu.au). It can take many forms. Bribery is a form of corruption. This is
receiving or paying for illegal advantages. An example of bribery is a company official paying a
public official to gain advantage over competitors. Embezzlement is another form of corruption. This
is when someone has legal access, but not ownership of assets, that steals them for personal gain. For
example, the treasurer of the local PTA may decide to take PTA funds to buy her daughter s prom
dress. Conflict of interest is another form of corruption. If the purchasing manager sits on the board of
his wife s company and then awards contracts to her company, that is a conflict of interest.
Type II: Asset Misappropriation
This is the most common form of occupational fraud and accounts for over 85% of fraud cases. It also
usually has the lowest cost of loss. Asset misappropriation is the intentional, illegal use of the
company s assets for one s personal use (Mohlenhoff Uhl, 2014). An example would

Police Licensing And Regulatory Department Of The...
This is the first security check point after the passengers receive their boarding passes, and it separates
the passengers from the non passengers. It is one of the most important security features, as right after
this check point, the passengers have to go through the customs, and it officially shows that they are
leaving the country. Other security features includes the final check at the arrival. At the arrival hall,
there were two separate lanes to the exit, one for the passengers with nothing to declare and the other
one for passengers with items to declare. Passengers are required to declare if they possess items that
are prohibited in Singapore, such as arms and explosives, bullet proof clothing, antique guns, toy guns
and swords. Such items would require authorisation from the Police Licensing Regulatory Department
of the Singapore Police Force. Another security feature would be the policemen armed and on patrol.
With the policemen patrolling, it would allow the passengers to feel safer and the police will be able
get to work as soon as possible, in case of any threats. The check in counters are one of the most
important security features as it is the first contact point with the passengers. The check in counters are
responsible for giving the right boarding passes to the right passengers, preventing anyone that is not
allowed to be on a flight to be on it. The increasing trend of self check in counters may pose as threat
or chance for terrorism as some people

Tabernacle Baptist Church Summary
Mini Ethnography at Tabernacle Baptist Church I chose to do my religious ethnographic study at my
home church, Tabernacle Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio on Sunday, May 8, 2016. Tabernacle is
an 112 year old historic Black Baptist church located on the lower Northside of Youngstown
surrounded by a mixed income housing development, homeless shelter, Youngstown State University,
and St. Elizabeth s Hospital. I would say the average age of a Tabernacle member is 55 years old.
About 70% of the members at this church are middle class families. Until about five years ago, its
membership was almost exclusively middle class. There has seen an influx of membership in working
class individuals and students since the arrival of Tabernacle s young, vibrant pastor, Rev. Christopher
McKee, Jr., three years ago. The church is attentive to the needs of this demographic but remains true
to its historic Black Baptist church roots. The church previously struggled with this conundrum until it
came to the reality that an exclusivist mindset around worship is detrimental to the body of Christ
when it did not have a pastor for over three years. The church was dying because no one was welcome
to it and it did not have a leader. Though it was difficult, this reassessment was beneficial in making
Tabernacle more relevant and welcoming to the community it is blessed to serve. ... Show more

Market Revolution Dbq
Insert Title Before the Market Revolution, America as a whole differed greatly from the America that
had developed during the start of the 19th century. The ideals and values of an American family life
varied from those after the revolution. American economy had relied heavily on agriculture and people
had a more personal work sphere. The government as well, was cautious when involving itself in the
nation s economic affairs. The Market Revolution overall played a big role in changing American
society, economy, and politics by fueling sectionalism, increasing commercialism, and forcing the
government to take on more responsibilities to benefit the nation. Society was one of the main
elements of America to be impacted by the Market Revolution. ... Show more content on

In general, the government helped promote and support businesses in order to advance the U.S. s
economy. Some examples would be the fact that they limited liability and incorporation laws using
charters to protect businesses, provided easy credit for loans, and supported entrepreneurs. This type
of involvement is what closely relates the changes in politics to the changes in economy. Most of the
government s involvement came through the American System. Developed by Congressman Henry
Clay, this system was meant to protect the U.S. industry with tariffs, initiate internal improvements,
and stabilize the economy. Clay s first part of the plan was to put protective tariffs primarily on
European goods. The total value of foreign exports to the U.S. escalated dramatically in only two
years, going from about $13 million (1814) to $151 million (1816). British goods had unbeatable
prices and the competition threatened to eliminate American businesses. In order to prevent this from
happening Clay decided to place taxes on imports which would ultimately raise European costs to
American consumers, shielding the U.S. so they could survive the competition. Now that Clay had
established a safer way to have the government support the U.S. s foreign affairs, his second part of
the system involved domestic improvement. By the 1820 s, the controversial issue on whether
Congress had the power to nationally finance roads, bridges, harbors, canals, and railroads had finally
eased up. Skeptics like Presidents James Madison and Monroe had finally softened up and agreed that
the government should play a larger role in building the nation s infrastructure (Politics in the Market
Revolution). They did this by making funds accessible to the states as well as coordinating the
projects, a good example

Analysis Of Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa has won it all, from the hearts of even the non Christians to the Nobel Peace Prize, and
posthumously, a prestige that most of us nor wish nor dream of, one which elevated her above us all:
sainthood. In Mother Teresa s canonization, she is immortalized by Pope Francis as an icon of love
and compassion, highlighting her commitment to saving lives, claiming her a generous dispenser of
divine mercy, and her whole life an eloquent witness to God s closeness to the poorest of the poor
(Francis). In this essay, I hope to, knowing well that I am going against the idols of hundreds of
millions, show you that everything said by the Pope is very far from the truth, and that there is perhaps
no better example of undeserved glorification and false idolization than the wicked old lady, Mother
Teresa of Calcutta.
Mother Teresa was indeed committed to saving lives, even at all costs. She was a strenuous advocate
of anti abortion, defending her position not for moral reasons, but to enforce the centuries old Vatican
s population policy established by the Catholic Church and implemented by the predecessors of, and,
Pope Francis himself. Even when working in the slums of Calcutta, a place swelteringly populous, her
strict right wing views of anti abortion didn t budge. Her rationale, very conservatively catholic ly:
God has created a world big enough for all the lives He wishes to be born. It is only our hearts that are
not big enough to want them and accept them... This way of reasoning becomes rather tricky,
especially given the existence of an omnibenevolent God, in the case of rape victims and mothers
facing risks in childbirth who, in places like the slums of Calcutta, can not afford any medical
attention. What Mother Teresa is suggesting, in other words, is the mother sacrifice her life for the
child. One can find something beautiful in this. Emotions will lead us to point to the unconditional
love a mother has for her child and leave us emotionally disheveled and maybe also inspired. But
rationality should tell us that in the slums of Calcutta, where each and every family is overcrowded
and living far below poverty line, replacing the death of a mother with a new baby only adds to their
predicament. It

Summer Dance Critique
The group that I have chosen to identify with is the Franklin and Marshall Dance Company. The
company is comprised of over 50 dancers and is supervised by three authoritative professors. Each
fall, new choreographers are recruited by the company to each their choreographies, or reconstruction
works of other choreographers, in the Fall Dance Concert. Each spring, the students have the
opportunity to choreograph their own pieces for the Spring Dance Concert. These student
choreographed pieces either presented in the concert, which runs for three days, or in the Show case,
held only on a Sunday. During the spring choreography, each choreographer contends with the
corresponding choreographers to secure a spot in the concert, which galvanizes competition, hostility,
and tension. Conclusively, however, akin to any other campus organization, we, the members of the
company, share solidarity with each other with regards to certain ideas and acceptable behaviors. ...

environment, similar to (identity ambivalence), and gives rise to mechanisms of intergroup expulsion
if the compliance is disobeyed. For example, a dancer I performed with last year for a senior piece
refused to comply with her senior dancer by constantly castigating her style of dance and movements.
She was eventually excluded from the group, in the form of expulsion, and consequently faced both
informal and formal sanctions; informal sanctions by the dancers in the company and formal sanctions
by the head executive board of the company who regulates, oversees, and organizes the undocumented

Cafo s Essay
Concentrated animal feeding operations, also known as CAFO s, are large industrialized agricultural
operations that confine thousands of animals in an enclosed location for feeding, breeding and
production farming purposes. These operations are taking over smaller, family run farms that are
raising animals ethically and environmentally friendly. CAFO s are raising beef cattle, dairy cattle,
poultry, fish and other animals for mass production to feed the ever growing demand for meat and
poultry consumption. These large scale operations are cutting out the small farms that cannot compete
in the food production industry.
This inhumane way of raising animals is upsetting many environmentalists who see this type of
farming as animal cruelty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mass production creates a scale of economy that allows the finished product to be available to
consumers at a lower cost. CAFO s are an economic necessity that allows enough meat, poultry, fish
and other animal products to be produced to feed humans globally. While some small farms may not
be able to compete, there is a trickle down effect that helps boost the regional and national economies.
CAFO s create local jobs in rural areas, increase tax dollars and also support other economic
development.
CAFO s are a direct response to globalization, as well as to increasing demand as the population
continues to grow. People want to buy a food product that is of the same quality, a standardized
product, every time. With the help of technological advancement, humans can harness the tools they
have available to produce enough food, therefore, more farms should switch to the best methods
available. Environmentalists who oppose CAFO s are fundamental Luddites and will only obstruct

The Effects Of Fire And Flooding On The Florida Everglades

South Florida Landscapes
The Effects of Fire and Flooding
To Tree Islands in the Florida Everglades
The topic of this research paper will be the tree island communities in the Florida Everglades and the
different conditions that affect them. While conducting preliminary research on the topic, my
hypothesis is that the effect of flooding shortly after a fire will have a positive effect on the tree
islands. I believe that the flooding will bring in other resources that have been carried with the current
and provide the community with enough resources for healthy growth following the fire. I believe the
communities could benefit from have a source of water, instead of having more droughts after the fire.
In the Everglades these patches of trees or islands of them are an essential piece of the landscape.
These islands of trees are seen in both the short and the long hydro period wetland of the Everglades.
What these islands start to do is provide a web of shade and they gives opportunity for these forest
dwelling plants and animals to perform important biodiversity and nutrient cycling functions (Gained
et al. 2002, Ross 2009). Tree islands can be all different sizes, in the short hydro period area these
sizes can vary from anything of two to three trees to as big as several hectares with hundreds of trees.
The size of these tree islands have a direct effect on the amount of species there are, the larger the tree
island the more chance there is to have more

Completing A Competency On An Examination
One would think that completing a competency on an examination, such as a chest, would be a simple
task, however that is not the case. Even after completing a competency, careful considerations need to
be made, in order to produce a diagnostic radiograph. A patient s body habitus, height, age, and overall
health can affect the diagnostic information that is present on a radiograph. Additionally, these factors
will most certainly affect the manner in which an examination is carried out. Although I have gained a
competency on the standard chest examination, these factors require that myself and those around me
pay close attention to the needs of the patient. But with the guidance and knowledge of the
technologists at Spohn South, I find the efficiency with which I complete exams increasing as the days
pass. Recently, I performed a standard chest exam under the supervision of staff technologist, Timothy
Rung. As with any examination one of the most important aspects in patient care, is the right patient
and right exam. Two patient identifiers were confirmed on the patient, who is a fifty nine year old
female. She came to the emergency department because of an acute cough that had been present for
over a week. The symptoms present at the time of her arrival included coughing, wheezing, and pain
in the lungs. Once the patient was in the examination room the process of the examination was
explained to her. Furthermore, I explained to her that all metal objects from the waist up

Victoria Chemicals (B) Group Case Study
Introduction Victoria Chemicals Intermediate Chemicals Group (ICG) is evaluating two mutually
exclusive proposals on their capital expenditures. The Liverpool and Rotterdam plants have compiled
separate proposals. Each proposal had the potential to increase the polypropylene output by 7 percent
for their plant respectively. Victoria Chemicals could not view a 14 percent increase companywide
being feasible, but agreed half of it would. The board would approve only one of the projects. James
Fawn must support one proposal and then submit it to the board for consent.

The four measures were net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), the payback period and
increases in earnings per share (EPS). Other strategic factors must be considered that are not reflected
in the financial tests. James Fawn and his ICG analyst team must decide which project is the best
value for the short term and the long term. Utilizing these financial hurdles and contemplating other
strategic factors, Victoria Chemicals will choose the project that will give the firm the most value.
Constraints on Solution In order to keep up with the competition, Victoria Chemicals must make
changes to its business strategy. The project that is accepted must meet several criteria that the board
has set based on performance measures. The projects are ranked as engineering efficient proposals.
The addition to net income of the project must be positive and therefore increasing earnings per share.
The net present value of the project s free cash flows must be positive, and the internal rate of return
must be greater than 10 percent, and the payback period for the project must be less than six years.
The transport division will have to increase allocation to Merseyside. The proposal will generate
excess capacity for the division and will increase the demand of new tank cars. The costs generated for
these cars would cost GBP2 million and have a depreciable life of 10

Fishing for Trouble Essay
In 1999 near the Galapagos Islands, Rob Stewart, 22, an underwater photographer and filmmaker, was
driving when he discovered something that changed his life forever. It was a long line fishing rig hung
with hundreds of dead sharks on a single fishing line that Stewart explained had the potential to reach
from Earth to space. This fishing line is known by conservationists as a curtain of death (Kielburger).
Overfishing is the fishing of a species at levels too high for the species to reproduce. This can greatly
reduce fish population and drive species toward extinction. Fishing has provided the world with food
and jobs that have remodeled Earth s cultures and lifestyles. Fishing is practiced by local fishermen,
commercial fishing rigs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When fish populations are low in one area, fishing boats will need to move to another area where fish
are more abundant. This renders oceans and their sea life helpless and severely damaged until all of
the fish in the oceans are completely gone. That is why governments need laws establishing the length
of time a person could spend at sea fishing, in order to reduce overfishing and increase recovery of
fish populations. One example of a fish population suffering from overfishing is the Pacific bluefin
tuna. Overfishing has left the world with less than five percent of its Pacific Bluefin tuna, says the
Pew Environment Group (Kowalski). This statement explains to the world how overfishing can
drastically decrease a species population in an extraordinarily short time period. The Pacific bluefin
tuna and other fish are very much stressed by overfishing, and suffer severe losses of population every
day. Moreover, overfishing will soon lead to the extinction of fish species like the Pacific bluefin tuna.
The European Commission even admits that the EU s [European Union] stocks are 88% overfished (
An Icelandic Success ). This reveals Europe s failure to prevent overfishing from spreading
throughout the continent and beyond its borders. The majority of Europe s fish supply undergoes the
harmful effects that overfishing brings. Additionally, the fish

History And Philosophy Of Ancient Philosophy
Kateryna Stoianova
History of Ancient Philosophy
Fall 2016
Final Exam Sec. A (10:00)
Question #1 A principle is a fundamental source or basis of something. A principle cannot be proven,
because to prove something we have to go back to the basics and principle is basis of everything.
Although, what most philosophers seem to be doing to prove the validity of their theories is by
showing that if we accept something else as a principle it would make no sense. The Pre Socratic
philosophers were all searching for that one fundamental principle of reality that everything is based
on. That factor was called arche, which literally means beginning, origin or a source of something.
The Pre Socratic philosophers are called that because they all came before Socrates, and he is a major

Thales of Miletus (624 546 BC) is considered to be the first philosopher and he considered water to be
the fundamental principle of everything. He thought that all things were composed of water, because it
could take all three forms (liquid, solid and gas). He also observed that all living things needed water
to stay alive and grow. Aristotle wrote about Thales views: nourishment of all things is moist, and that

Parabola Y X2 Change
The shape of the basis parabola y=x2 changes for different forms of the parabolic function causing it
to translate, reflect or dilate. Dilation (widening or narrowing) of the parabola occurs when the basis
parabola y=x2 is multiplied or divided (m) therefore changing the equation to either y=mx2 or
y=x^2/m. For instance, if the parabola is multiplied by two the parabola becomes narrower whereas if
the parabola is divided by two the parabola becomes wider. This is evident in the graph in question 1b
as when the basis parabola is multiplied by fourteen the parabola becomes narrower however when the
basis parabola is divided by fourteen it becomes wider. Reflection of the parabola occurs when the
basis parabola y=x2 is changed to y= x2. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vertical (upwards or downwards) translation of the parabola occurs when the basis parabola y=x2, y
value of each point is increased or decreased therefore changing the equation to either to y=x2+h or
y=x2 h. For instance, in order to translate the parabola upwards by 5 units it shifts the general point (a,
a2) to (a, a2+5) therefore making the equation, y= x2+5. The vertex of this parabola is now (0,5) but it
still has the same axis of symmetry. Likewise, when the basis parabola becomes y=x2 5 the parabola is
translated 5 units down with the vertex (0, 5). This can be seen through the graph in question 1a as the
parabolas are vertically translated upwards or downwards by using the addition or subtraction of
fourteen. Conversely, horizontal translation of the parabola occurs when the translation parabola
equation y=x2±h is changed to y=(x±h)2. Therefore, the horizontal translation for the parabola is
changed by the value of the variable h, that is subtracted from x before the squaring operation. For
example, in order to translate the parabola to the left by 4 units it shifts the general point (a, a2) to (a,
(a+2)2) therefore making the equation, y= (x+2)2. The vertex of this parabola is now (0,4). Likewise,
when the basis parabola becomes y=(x 2)2 the parabola is translated 2 units to the right with the vertex
(0, 4). This can be seen through the graph in

What Is A Day At The Piqua City Pool Essay
A Day at the Piqua City Pool The spring of 2017 I came across a great summer job opportunity. My
best friend, Hailey McPherson, worked at the Piqua City Pool the summer before. She told me it was a
fun job and an easy way to make some money. Going into my junior year, I knew that it was time to
save up money for my future. Taking Hailey s suggestion into consideration, I went to the city
building to get an application. Once I got home, I started filling out the application and I was so
confused. The paper required so much information that I didn t know. Finally, I asked my mom for
help. When I had everything completed, I had to get three references. I went to all my coaches because

My coworker broke up the ice and scoop it into a bowl. Then, they would hand the bowl to me and I
would dump it into the top of the machine. This job was very tedious and one of my least favorite
things to do. After that, I would pour the liquid into the slushy machine so it could freeze. Next, I
would fill the three washing sinks. The left sink was for warm soapy water and the middle sink was
empty for rinsing. The right sink was filled with diluted bleach. Right before open, 11:00, I would put
the hot dogs on the rollers. When the pizza arrived, I would put them into the warmers. When
everything was finished, my coworker and I would sit and wait for customers.
On most days the pool wasn t extremely busy. Typically, I would only get busy during adult swim s.
The kids piled in line waiting with their wet dollars. I usually was the runner, not the cashier. The
cashier took the money and sometimes made drinks. The runner would get all the food prepared. I
always had to be wearing gloves. Anytime I touched anything but food, I had to get new ones.
Usually, I had all the food prepared, but when it gets really busy we runout. Sometimes I would have
to heat up the pretzels or hot dogs in the microwave. I hated when that would happen because I would
have to run from the staff room back to the concession stand. After an adult swim, I had to fill up a
bucket with soapy water and go wash the tables outside. The kids made the worst messes! I found

The Ethical Issue Surrounding Organ Transplantation
Outline Title: The Ethical Issues Surrounding Organ Transplantation Abstract With organ transplants
so prevalent in today s society, it is important that the ethical issues surrounding them are fully
understood. While many people want to see life extended as long as possible, there are others who
believe life must be allowed to run its natural course. This literature review examines the process of
organ transplantation from continuous shortages of available organs to the distribution process to the
lasting effects of the transplant on the patient. The research showed that even as policies and
procedures adapt to our evolving society, it is very likely there will always be disagreement on the
subject of organ transplantation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethical Issues Surrounding Organ Transplantation 1 The Ethical Issues Surrounding Organ
Transplantation A Review of the Literature Beginning with the first organ transplants in the 1950 s;
questions have risen regarding these life changing procedures and the ethics that surround them.
During the years since, society has continued to debate the issues surrounding organ transplants. With
the creation of regulations regarding organ procurement and the development of transplant waiting
lists, it is obvious that an increasing number of people have had their lives effected by this medical
advancement. That being said, the importance of educating people on the facts of transplantation is
greater than it has ever been. This literature review considers the use of personal ethics in the decision
making process as it relates to organ transplantation by responding to the following questions: 1. How
do we deal with the shortage of donated organs? 2. What is the distribution process for the organs? 3.
What are the effects of organ transplantation on the patient? Understanding the ethics of the organ
transplantation process could increase the number of possible donors, thus saving the lives of so many
who are in need of organ transplants. How Do We Deal With the Shortage of Donated Organs? There

The Pros And Cons Of Tourism
In the third word, tourism is one of the main economic activity for countries with less natural
resources such as timber, oil, and mineral. Britton (1982) indicates that these countries lack structural
economic due to poverty. Today, countries with more money, from the third world, seek to diversify
their economy that has been based on natural resources exploitation. This diversification is based on
ecotourism due to scenic and unique natural biodiversity. This could be part of tourism gaze that Urry
(1990) presents as something distinctive to be gazed upon, that the signs collected by tourists have to
be visually extraordinary. This offering should be visually different and distinguished from otherwise
mundane activities. This visual consumption is attached to the aesthetic appropriation of the
environment that could be characterized by unique flowers, landscapes, or wildlife. As new third
world countries are entering in the market define and control by western people, they have to propose
extraordinary and unique landscape to be gaze, have intense tourism promotion in tourism markets,
and all the infrastructure able to attract tourism to them.
Tourism gaze
All the third world countries offer mainly the exploration of their unique natural environment. This
follows the myth of unchanged and uncivilized state by Echtner and Prasar (2003). This new
destination proposes untouched and untamed landscape (Echtner Prasad, 2003) because they did not

Advantages And Disadvantages Of LTE Networks
These technologies bring the network closer to mobile users and improve spectral efficiency (SE) per

also be deployed to eliminate coverage holes and relay cells can be used in backhaul, where wire line
backhaul is unavailable or not economical [150] [152]. The heterogeneous deployment of LTE

Disadvantages: Despite the benefits that can be achieved by this technique, there are some challenges
that need to be addressed, including management of the interfaces between heterogeneous

Inter Cell Interference Coordination (ICIC) methods since Release 8 specifications. ICIC was
developed to deal with interference issues at cell edge and mitigates interference on traffic channels
only in heterogeneous network. These limitations were bypassed with Release 10 specifications which
introduced enhanced Inter Cell Interference Coordination (e ICIC). Enhancements were brought to
deal with interference issues in Heterogeneous Networks and mitigate interference on traffic and
control channels. In such networks, two major scenarios for severe inter cell interference should be

Horoscopes Persuasive Speech
Have you ever wondered why there is such an evident prejudice against Gemini s? Even if you didn t

logical reason why people target Gemini. People could have just as easily targeted Sagittarius or Leo

sign Gemini stands for the constellation of the twins so you could call them two faced . There are

likely 40% 60% true for you. Finally, if you don t believe at all it would only be 0% 20% true for you.
In some aspects it seems totally fake. The chance of everyone born in the same month as you having
similar traits to you is about as likely as evolution, it can t happen. But if you think about it, I would
say at least half of those people wouldn t believe in astrology at all and maybe 20 ish% would just

Compare And Contrast Freud And Foucault

First Year Seminar Freud and Foucault
Throughout reading the two books on Sigmund Freud and Foucault we can infer that they have many
views, standpoints on various ideas, points about certain aspects also as to why we act like we do. One
standpoint both philosophers have, is the idea of restraint. Restraint is a measure or condition that
keeps someone or something under control or within limits. As it can also be unemotional,
dispassionate, or moderate behavior; self control. Both Freud and Foucault have their very strong
opinions on the subject of Restraint. Freud talks about restraint through your libido and super ego.
While Foucault talks about restraint as
The first time Foucault talks about restraint is in The Means of Correct Training. Here Foucault talks
about the hierarchical observation.
One way Sigmund Freud talks about the idea of restraint as read in his book Civilization and its
Discontents is through sex and the Sex drive every person has. The idea of restraint comes from is that
it is impossible to resist and restrain yourself from sex and sex urges. Every human acts the way they
do due to their libido. Freud informs you that your libido or also known as your sex drive controls on
how you act like you do. It is natural from birth to have a libido and there is no way to stop it. The

Self-Acquaintance And John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill
For our second week of school, we learned about the different Puritan ideals and how they influenced
our society today. In this essay, I will discuss one of those many ideals and provide evidence to defend
that it is, indeed, a Puritanical ideal that can be found in many early colonial pieces of literature, such
as Self Acquaintance by William Cooper, Here followes some verses upon the burning of our house,
July 10th, 1666 by Anne Bradstreet, and John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill, 1630. Loyalty to God, or
faith, is a Puritan ideal.
Faith is a Puritan ideal as shown in many early colonial works. In Self Acquaintance by William
Cooper, the speaker begins to question his faith before stating, Oh, cleanse me in a Saviour s
blood,/Transform me by thy pow r,/And make me thy beloved abode,/And let me rove no more. As he
begins to wander from his faith, he cries out to God, his Saviour, to cleanse him from the sin of
doubting his faith. In Anne Bradstreet s Here followes some verses upon the burning of our house,

In a traditional narrative we expect to see characters that have prominent roles in the film to be in the
opening sequence; also you d expect the story contained in the opening sequence to be followed up.
This is not the case in Pulp Fiction. We leave the opening scene in a moment of action. Therefore we
are set up with the expectation of what happens next? In a traditional linear narrative this is a question
which is likely to be answered. However in Pulp Fiction the next scene contains different characters
and a different plot. We do not return to the opening story till the end of the film.
The next scene contains the opening credits. The music is upbeat and compliments the emotional
intensity of the two thieves situation. The music also suggests we are still with the two thieves story.
In the middle of the title track we hear a radio changing dial and a new track plays Jungle Boogie.
This suggests unpredictability. This is also a subversion of traditions in itself as it doesn t happen in
any other film.

The Lord Of The Flies Zeitgeism Essay
A zeitgeist embodies the mood and spirit of a certain era in history. Although it isn t fully
understandable to the readers and the authors themselves, the set of ideals and beliefs that dominate
the actions taken by the members of society provide a simple basis of understanding of a time period.
Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, focuses on a post apocalyptic WWll world, in which a group of
British schoolboys is left stranded on a deserted island without any adult supervision. These innocent
children, in time, turn to savagery as the absence of order shifts them towards a more primitive
society. These turn of events, captured through the eyes of the adolescence, expresses Golding s

All the boys within the novel except Simon begin to turn to savagery shortly after they realize that
they would much rather have fun and play games than get their priorities straight, such as getting off
the island. This can be supported by the fact that Simon, a holy figure, realizes the presence of a beast
on the island, and how in time, it is to be revealed through Simon s thoughts that maybe it s only us
(Golding 82). The concept of this novel serves as a counterpart to another novel called The Coral
Island, written during the late 1850 s, almost a century before the publication of the Lord of the Flies
(Text 2). Instead of boys turning to savagery, The Coral Island captures the essence of the innocence,
and how the nature of unlawfulness is ineffective to their behavior. The Lord of the Flies, in response
to its counterpart, captures the true meaning of a zeitgeist, and how it embodies the mood of certain

The Great Cycle Of Reality In William Shakespeare s King...
An ancient Greek aristocrat once said, Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance

the first appearance) This statement is an ever present motif in William Shakespeare s 1606 King Lear,
a play filled with deceit, characters in disguise, and the modifications of circumstances. The characters
did not understand how the play was going to turn out, and still the original spectators, the
Elizabethans, certainly did. This is due to Shakespeare s implication of the set of beliefs held by the
people of 16th century England, referred to as Elizabethan Cosmology. An element of this belief
system is the Great Chain Of Being, which determines of the importance of everything in the universe.
Another is the Wheel Of Fortune, which, depending on one s position on the wheel, controls the
amount fortune one achieves in life. Finally, there is Christianity, which through its doctrine, dictated
who was good or evil. And through these parts of Elizabethan doctrine, the play reflects that the
appearance of a situation is not always its reality, and therefore one should always be cautious. The
main guideline of the Great Chain Of Being is that everything has its place in the hierarchy of life.
God is at the highest link in all things but the king is the highest in terms of humanity, and so he is the
closest of humanity to God. Lear, being king, is therefore charged with a significant

Wombs And Reproductive Rights
According to Carmen Shalev (1989) and John Robertson (1994), both of them libertarians and
progressives, women are free to do whatever they want to do and feel is proper to do with their wombs
and reproductive capacity. Shalev goes further and, at least once in her famous book Birth Power , she
states that a woman holds the right to make a profit from her womb just as any other person holds the
same right to obtain benefits from the private property she has accumulated throughout her life. I
object to this argument due to its lack of clarity. It seems that, in Shalev s view, women are a certain
type of owners of reproductive property that is just waiting to be exploited for profit purposes. Shalev
points this out in the name of women s power to decide the best way to make money.

completed in their NBA career. If you think about and, look into it, Lebron James may be the better
player. Lebron has won more rings, earned more money, and has more popularity than Kevin Durant.
You also have to look at Kevin Durant stats as where he is right now. If you look into it, Kevin Durant
is on his way to a great NBA player, possibly Hall Of Fame, after he retires, which will be a while
along the road. Lebron James career will be greatly remembered from the beginning to the end, which
will be soon, because he has done so much for every team he has played for, which has only been two
teams. Kevin Durant has also done very much for the two teams he has been on, but he has not done it
like Lebron James, because Lebron has won a ring with Miami, and in Cleveland. While Kevin Durant
has only won a ring with one of the teams he has been

Essay On Immigration Paperwork
Who wouldn t want to live and work become a U.S. citizen? However, the U.S. immigration
paperwork is something you have to contend with, and some give up midway while trying to complete
the paperwork. This reminds one of Graham Nash s songs here I am with my immigration form: it s
big enough to keep me warm the amount of paperwork is too overwhelming. However, you can t let
that put you off from your goal of becoming a U.S. citizen. All you need to do is to think of ways and
means to handle the U.S. immigration paperwork and you are done.
How to make U.S. Immigration Paperwork Easier

  • 2. The Argument Behind The Torts Of Trespass The rationale behind the torts of trespass to the person are that they protect the inviolability of personal freedom and the right of self determination within the confines of the law subject to the necessary demands of the law giving freedom from harassment and false imprisonment. The area of law in question is trespass to the person and whether the persons mentioned in the scenario have Liability under this trespass for various acts they may or may not have committed. Simon, Mel and the caretaker are victims or not liable for any torts. Consideration will be given for the liability of the persons in this scenario Sharon, Cheryl and the Surgeon who have potentially committed the following torts; Assault Battery Harassment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The case of Ireland extended the notion that a physical act is not required when it was decided that subjecting someone to silent phone calls could means assault could be enough. One could presume that future judges could extend that notion to other silent means. The effect of the defendant s action must be to produce a state of fear of immediate unlawful violence. The fear that is produced must however be reasonable immediate as in Thomas where threats by pickets to miners on a bus were not assault because the threat was not immediate due to the separation between the two sides and thus had no means to carry out the threat. Individual liability will now be examined Sharon s threat to bitch slap Cheryl good and proper could amount to an assault as it is a clear and intentional threat of a battery to Sharon. Costanza held that threats and words can amount to an assault without the need for menacing movements to be the sole cause of harm. Sharon s statement were it not for the presence of other staff would be sufficient to avoid liability Turberville, she does not have the intent to carry out the threat immediately which negates potential liability for battery as in Thomas Battery The definition of battery is an act of the defendant that directly causes and intentionally or negligently causes some physical contact with the person of the claimant without ... • 3. The Odyssey, Medea, And Oedipus The King While our class has been covering different aspects of Greek civilization, I was assigned to read the literature from that time period. Some examples of the literature I read was The Iliad, The Odyssey, Medea, and Oedipus The King. These readings show direct relations to the concepts and ideas that occurred in Greek civilization during this time in history. Some of the recurring themes throughout these stories are religion, philosophy, and hospitality. Polytheism, fate, and hospitality towards others are some of the important concepts that were held by the Greeks. The religious views of the Greek civilization is evident throughout the literature of that time period. The Greeks were known to have been a Polytheistic people, who believed in multiple gods/goddesses. They believed these gods constantly interfered with their lives, both in good and bad ways, which is shown in the literature. Not only do the characters pray or converse with these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One important value the Greeks held was hospitality. In The Odyssey, Odysseus travels through many different places. As he encounters new people, they often welcome him in immediately. In fact, hospitality was so common that whenever Odysseus encounters the island inhabited by cyclops, he assumes he is welcome and begins to eat their food and drink. The concept of hospitality in the literary works connects not only to their civilization in general, but specifically connects with their religious beliefs. I believe it is possible that the Greeks gave hospitality to others on behalf of their gods/goddesses rather than just out of kindness. One example of this would be in the Iliad, where Achilles welcomes in other men such as Odysseus to his hut and prepares them food. He does this before asking about their intentions. This seems a little weird by today s standards, as this happened before Achilles had joined their side in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Various Types Of Occupational Fraud Types of Fraud The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners displays what is known as the Fraud Tree. It is a representation of the three major types of occupational fraud (www.acfe.com). Occupational fraud is any scheme that involves employees taking cash, resources, or misapplies assets of the business for their personal gain (www.smartceo.com). Type I: Corruption Corruption is an intentional, dishonest act where an employee abuses their position in the company for personal gain (www.curtin.edu.au). It can take many forms. Bribery is a form of corruption. This is receiving or paying for illegal advantages. An example of bribery is a company official paying a public official to gain advantage over competitors. Embezzlement is another form of corruption. This is when someone has legal access, but not ownership of assets, that steals them for personal gain. For example, the treasurer of the local PTA may decide to take PTA funds to buy her daughter s prom dress. Conflict of interest is another form of corruption. If the purchasing manager sits on the board of his wife s company and then awards contracts to her company, that is a conflict of interest. Type II: Asset Misappropriation This is the most common form of occupational fraud and accounts for over 85% of fraud cases. It also usually has the lowest cost of loss. Asset misappropriation is the intentional, illegal use of the company s assets for one s personal use (Mohlenhoff Uhl, 2014). An example would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Police Licensing And Regulatory Department Of The... This is the first security check point after the passengers receive their boarding passes, and it separates the passengers from the non passengers. It is one of the most important security features, as right after this check point, the passengers have to go through the customs, and it officially shows that they are leaving the country. Other security features includes the final check at the arrival. At the arrival hall, there were two separate lanes to the exit, one for the passengers with nothing to declare and the other one for passengers with items to declare. Passengers are required to declare if they possess items that are prohibited in Singapore, such as arms and explosives, bullet proof clothing, antique guns, toy guns and swords. Such items would require authorisation from the Police Licensing Regulatory Department of the Singapore Police Force. Another security feature would be the policemen armed and on patrol. With the policemen patrolling, it would allow the passengers to feel safer and the police will be able get to work as soon as possible, in case of any threats. The check in counters are one of the most important security features as it is the first contact point with the passengers. The check in counters are responsible for giving the right boarding passes to the right passengers, preventing anyone that is not allowed to be on a flight to be on it. The increasing trend of self check in counters may pose as threat or chance for terrorism as some people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Tabernacle Baptist Church Summary Mini Ethnography at Tabernacle Baptist Church I chose to do my religious ethnographic study at my home church, Tabernacle Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio on Sunday, May 8, 2016. Tabernacle is an 112 year old historic Black Baptist church located on the lower Northside of Youngstown surrounded by a mixed income housing development, homeless shelter, Youngstown State University, and St. Elizabeth s Hospital. I would say the average age of a Tabernacle member is 55 years old. About 70% of the members at this church are middle class families. Until about five years ago, its membership was almost exclusively middle class. There has seen an influx of membership in working class individuals and students since the arrival of Tabernacle s young, vibrant pastor, Rev. Christopher McKee, Jr., three years ago. The church is attentive to the needs of this demographic but remains true to its historic Black Baptist church roots. The church previously struggled with this conundrum until it came to the reality that an exclusivist mindset around worship is detrimental to the body of Christ when it did not have a pastor for over three years. The church was dying because no one was welcome to it and it did not have a leader. Though it was difficult, this reassessment was beneficial in making Tabernacle more relevant and welcoming to the community it is blessed to serve. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Market Revolution Dbq Insert Title Before the Market Revolution, America as a whole differed greatly from the America that had developed during the start of the 19th century. The ideals and values of an American family life varied from those after the revolution. American economy had relied heavily on agriculture and people had a more personal work sphere. The government as well, was cautious when involving itself in the nation s economic affairs. The Market Revolution overall played a big role in changing American society, economy, and politics by fueling sectionalism, increasing commercialism, and forcing the government to take on more responsibilities to benefit the nation. Society was one of the main elements of America to be impacted by the Market Revolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In general, the government helped promote and support businesses in order to advance the U.S. s economy. Some examples would be the fact that they limited liability and incorporation laws using charters to protect businesses, provided easy credit for loans, and supported entrepreneurs. This type of involvement is what closely relates the changes in politics to the changes in economy. Most of the government s involvement came through the American System. Developed by Congressman Henry Clay, this system was meant to protect the U.S. industry with tariffs, initiate internal improvements, and stabilize the economy. Clay s first part of the plan was to put protective tariffs primarily on European goods. The total value of foreign exports to the U.S. escalated dramatically in only two years, going from about $13 million (1814) to $151 million (1816). British goods had unbeatable prices and the competition threatened to eliminate American businesses. In order to prevent this from happening Clay decided to place taxes on imports which would ultimately raise European costs to American consumers, shielding the U.S. so they could survive the competition. Now that Clay had established a safer way to have the government support the U.S. s foreign affairs, his second part of the system involved domestic improvement. By the 1820 s, the controversial issue on whether Congress had the power to nationally finance roads, bridges, harbors, canals, and railroads had finally eased up. Skeptics like Presidents James Madison and Monroe had finally softened up and agreed that the government should play a larger role in building the nation s infrastructure (Politics in the Market Revolution). They did this by making funds accessible to the states as well as coordinating the projects, a good example ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of Mother Teresa Mother Teresa has won it all, from the hearts of even the non Christians to the Nobel Peace Prize, and posthumously, a prestige that most of us nor wish nor dream of, one which elevated her above us all: sainthood. In Mother Teresa s canonization, she is immortalized by Pope Francis as an icon of love and compassion, highlighting her commitment to saving lives, claiming her a generous dispenser of divine mercy, and her whole life an eloquent witness to God s closeness to the poorest of the poor (Francis). In this essay, I hope to, knowing well that I am going against the idols of hundreds of millions, show you that everything said by the Pope is very far from the truth, and that there is perhaps no better example of undeserved glorification and false idolization than the wicked old lady, Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Mother Teresa was indeed committed to saving lives, even at all costs. She was a strenuous advocate of anti abortion, defending her position not for moral reasons, but to enforce the centuries old Vatican s population policy established by the Catholic Church and implemented by the predecessors of, and, Pope Francis himself. Even when working in the slums of Calcutta, a place swelteringly populous, her strict right wing views of anti abortion didn t budge. Her rationale, very conservatively catholic ly: God has created a world big enough for all the lives He wishes to be born. It is only our hearts that are not big enough to want them and accept them... This way of reasoning becomes rather tricky, especially given the existence of an omnibenevolent God, in the case of rape victims and mothers facing risks in childbirth who, in places like the slums of Calcutta, can not afford any medical attention. What Mother Teresa is suggesting, in other words, is the mother sacrifice her life for the child. One can find something beautiful in this. Emotions will lead us to point to the unconditional love a mother has for her child and leave us emotionally disheveled and maybe also inspired. But rationality should tell us that in the slums of Calcutta, where each and every family is overcrowded and living far below poverty line, replacing the death of a mother with a new baby only adds to their predicament. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Summer Dance Critique The group that I have chosen to identify with is the Franklin and Marshall Dance Company. The company is comprised of over 50 dancers and is supervised by three authoritative professors. Each fall, new choreographers are recruited by the company to each their choreographies, or reconstruction works of other choreographers, in the Fall Dance Concert. Each spring, the students have the opportunity to choreograph their own pieces for the Spring Dance Concert. These student choreographed pieces either presented in the concert, which runs for three days, or in the Show case, held only on a Sunday. During the spring choreography, each choreographer contends with the corresponding choreographers to secure a spot in the concert, which galvanizes competition, hostility, and tension. Conclusively, however, akin to any other campus organization, we, the members of the company, share solidarity with each other with regards to certain ideas and acceptable behaviors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an underclassmen, compliance runs throughout the company; complying with the orders and mentalities of those who serve as the agents. The notion of compliance creates an inequitable environment, similar to (identity ambivalence), and gives rise to mechanisms of intergroup expulsion if the compliance is disobeyed. For example, a dancer I performed with last year for a senior piece refused to comply with her senior dancer by constantly castigating her style of dance and movements. Cafo s Essay Concentrated animal feeding operations, also known as CAFO s, are large industrialized agricultural operations that confine thousands of animals in an enclosed location for feeding, breeding and production farming purposes. These operations are taking over smaller, family run farms that are raising animals ethically and environmentally friendly. CAFO s are raising beef cattle, dairy cattle, poultry, fish and other animals for mass production to feed the ever growing demand for meat and poultry consumption. These large scale operations are cutting out the small farms that cannot compete in the food production industry. CAFO s create local jobs in rural areas, increase tax dollars and also support other economic development. CAFO s are a direct response to globalization, as well as to increasing demand as the population continues to grow. The Effects Of Fire And Flooding On The Florida Everglades Kristofer Mueller South Florida Landscapes The Effects of Fire and Flooding To Tree Islands in the Florida Everglades The topic of this research paper will be the tree island communities in the Florida Everglades and the different conditions that affect them. While conducting preliminary research on the topic, my hypothesis is that the effect of flooding shortly after a fire will have a positive effect on the tree islands. I believe that the flooding will bring in other resources that have been carried with the current and provide the community with enough resources for healthy growth following the fire. I believe the communities could benefit from have a source of water, instead of having more droughts after the fire. In the Everglades these patches of trees or islands of them are an essential piece of the landscape. These islands of trees are seen in both the short and the long hydro period wetland of the Everglades. What these islands start to do is provide a web of shade and they gives opportunity for these forest dwelling plants and animals to perform important biodiversity and nutrient cycling functions (Gained et al. 2002, Ross 2009). Tree islands can be all different sizes, in the short hydro period area these sizes can vary from anything of two to three trees to as big as several hectares with hundreds of trees. Even after completing a competency, careful considerations need to be made, in order to produce a diagnostic radiograph. A patient s body habitus, height, age, and overall health can affect the diagnostic information that is present on a radiograph. Additionally, these factors will most certainly affect the manner in which an examination is carried out. Although I have gained a competency on the standard chest examination, these factors require that myself and those around me pay close attention to the needs of the patient. But with the guidance and knowledge of the technologists at Spohn South, I find the efficiency with which I complete exams increasing as the days pass. Fishing for Trouble Essay In 1999 near the Galapagos Islands, Rob Stewart, 22, an underwater photographer and filmmaker, was driving when he discovered something that changed his life forever. It was a long line fishing rig hung with hundreds of dead sharks on a single fishing line that Stewart explained had the potential to reach from Earth to space. This fishing line is known by conservationists as a curtain of death (Kielburger). Overfishing is the fishing of a species at levels too high for the species to reproduce. This can greatly reduce fish population and drive species toward extinction. Fishing has provided the world with food and jobs that have remodeled Earth s cultures and lifestyles. When fish populations are low in one area, fishing boats will need to move to another area where fish are more abundant. This renders oceans and their sea life helpless and severely damaged until all of the fish in the oceans are completely gone. That is why governments need laws establishing the length of time a person could spend at sea fishing, in order to reduce overfishing and increase recovery of fish populations. One example of a fish population suffering from overfishing is the Pacific bluefin tuna. Overfishing has left the world with less than five percent of its Pacific Bluefin tuna, says the Pew Environment Group (Kowalski). This statement explains to the world how overfishing can drastically decrease a species population in an extraordinarily short time period. The Pacific bluefin tuna and other fish are very much stressed by overfishing, and suffer severe losses of population every day. Moreover, overfishing will soon lead to the extinction of fish species like the Pacific bluefin tuna. The European Commission even admits that the EU s [European Union] stocks are 88% overfished ( An Icelandic Success ). • 20. History And Philosophy Of Ancient Philosophy Kateryna Stoianova History of Ancient Philosophy Fall 2016 Final Exam Sec. A (10:00) Question #1 A principle is a fundamental source or basis of something. A principle cannot be proven, because to prove something we have to go back to the basics and principle is basis of everything. Although, what most philosophers seem to be doing to prove the validity of their theories is by showing that if we accept something else as a principle it would make no sense. The Pre Socratic philosophers were all searching for that one fundamental principle of reality that everything is based on. That factor was called arche, which literally means beginning, origin or a source of something. The Pre Socratic philosophers are called that because they all came before Socrates, and he is a major figure in ancient philosophy, because he was the first person to develop it as a distinct kind of knowledge. Most of the early philosophers were looking for a materialistic arche. Thales of Miletus (624 546 BC) is considered to be the first philosopher and he considered water to be the fundamental principle of everything. He thought that all things were composed of water, because it could take all three forms (liquid, solid and gas). He also observed that all living things needed water to stay alive and grow. Dilation (widening or narrowing) of the parabola occurs when the basis parabola y=x2 is multiplied or divided (m) therefore changing the equation to either y=mx2 or y=x^2/m. For instance, if the parabola is multiplied by two the parabola becomes narrower whereas if the parabola is divided by two the parabola becomes wider. This is evident in the graph in question 1b as when the basis parabola is multiplied by fourteen the parabola becomes narrower however when the basis parabola is divided by fourteen it becomes wider. Reflection of the parabola occurs when the basis parabola y=x2 is changed to y= x2. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vertical (upwards or downwards) translation of the parabola occurs when the basis parabola y=x2, y value of each point is increased or decreased therefore changing the equation to either to y=x2+h or y=x2 h. For instance, in order to translate the parabola upwards by 5 units it shifts the general point (a, a2) to (a, a2+5) therefore making the equation, y= x2+5. The vertex of this parabola is now (0,5) but it still has the same axis of symmetry. Likewise, when the basis parabola becomes y=x2 5 the parabola is translated 5 units down with the vertex (0, 5). This can be seen through the graph in question 1a as the parabolas are vertically translated upwards or downwards by using the addition or subtraction of fourteen. Conversely, horizontal translation of the parabola occurs when the translation parabola equation y=x2±h is changed to y=(x±h)2. Therefore, the horizontal translation for the parabola is changed by the value of the variable h, that is subtracted from x before the squaring operation. For example, in order to translate the parabola to the left by 4 units it shifts the general point (a, a2) to (a, (a+2)2) therefore making the equation, y= (x+2)2. • 32. Self-Acquaintance And John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill For our second week of school, we learned about the different Puritan ideals and how they influenced our society today. In this essay, I will discuss one of those many ideals and provide evidence to defend that it is, indeed, a Puritanical ideal that can be found in many early colonial pieces of literature, such as Self Acquaintance by William Cooper, Here followes some verses upon the burning of our house, July 10th, 1666 by Anne Bradstreet, and John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill, 1630. Loyalty to God, or faith, is a Puritan ideal. Faith is a Puritan ideal as shown in many early colonial works. In Self Acquaintance by William Cooper, the speaker begins to question his faith before stating, Oh, cleanse me in a Saviour s blood,/Transform me by thy pow r,/And make me thy beloved abode,/And let me rove no more. As he begins to wander from his faith, he cries out to God, his Saviour, to cleanse him from the sin of doubting his faith. In a traditional narrative we expect to see characters that have prominent roles in the film to be in the opening sequence; also you d expect the story contained in the opening sequence to be followed up. This is not the case in Pulp Fiction. We leave the opening scene in a moment of action. Therefore we are set up with the expectation of what happens next? In a traditional linear narrative this is a question which is likely to be answered. However in Pulp Fiction the next scene contains different characters and a different plot. We do not return to the opening story till the end of the film. The next scene contains the opening credits. The music is upbeat and compliments the emotional intensity of the two thieves situation. The music also suggests we are still with the two thieves story. In the middle of the title track we hear a radio changing dial and a new track plays Jungle Boogie. This suggests unpredictability. • 34. The Lord Of The Flies Zeitgeism Essay A zeitgeist embodies the mood and spirit of a certain era in history. Although it isn t fully understandable to the readers and the authors themselves, the set of ideals and beliefs that dominate the actions taken by the members of society provide a simple basis of understanding of a time period. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, focuses on a post apocalyptic WWll world, in which a group of British schoolboys is left stranded on a deserted island without any adult supervision. These innocent children, in time, turn to savagery as the absence of order shifts them towards a more primitive society. These turn of events, captured through the eyes of the adolescence, expresses Golding s feelings of the evil nature of man and how even the purest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All the boys within the novel except Simon begin to turn to savagery shortly after they realize that they would much rather have fun and play games than get their priorities straight, such as getting off the island. This can be supported by the fact that Simon, a holy figure, realizes the presence of a beast on the island, and how in time, it is to be revealed through Simon s thoughts that maybe it s only us (Golding 82). The concept of this novel serves as a counterpart to another novel called The Coral Island, written during the late 1850 s, almost a century before the publication of the Lord of the Flies (Text 2). Instead of boys turning to savagery, The Coral Island captures the essence of the innocence, and how the nature of unlawfulness is ineffective to their behavior. (https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/209465 things are not always what they seem the first appearance) This statement is an ever present motif in William Shakespeare s 1606 King Lear, a play filled with deceit, characters in disguise, and the modifications of circumstances. The characters did not understand how the play was going to turn out, and still the original spectators, the Elizabethans, certainly did. This is due to Shakespeare s implication of the set of beliefs held by the people of 16th century England, referred to as Elizabethan Cosmology. An element of this belief system is the Great Chain Of Being, which determines of the importance of everything in the universe. Another is the Wheel Of Fortune, which, depending on one s position on the wheel, controls the amount fortune one achieves in life. Finally, there is Christianity, which through its doctrine, dictated who was good or evil. And through these parts of Elizabethan doctrine, the play reflects that the appearance of a situation is not always its reality, and therefore one should always be cautious. The main guideline of the Great Chain Of Being is that everything has its place in the hierarchy of life. God is at the highest link in all things but the king is the highest in terms of humanity, and so he is the closest of humanity to God. Lear, being king, is therefore charged with a significant ... Wombs And Reproductive Rights According to Carmen Shalev (1989) and John Robertson (1994), both of them libertarians and progressives, women are free to do whatever they want to do and feel is proper to do with their wombs and reproductive capacity. Shalev goes further and, at least once in her famous book Birth Power , she states that a woman holds the right to make a profit from her womb just as any other person holds the same right to obtain benefits from the private property she has accumulated throughout her life. I object to this argument due to its lack of clarity. It seems that, in Shalev s view, women are a certain type of owners of reproductive property that is just waiting to be exploited for profit purposes. Shalev points this out in the name of women s power to decide the best way to make money. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
