How Did Napoleon Bonaparte French Revolution
In the wake of the destructive French Revolution and the domestic struggles that took place
under the rule of the Directory, Napoleon Bonaparte took power and proceeded to unify,
improve, and expand France, and in the process became one of the most well know and
celebrated leaders of the Western world. Born in Corsica, Napoleon received a scholarship from a
French military academy where he honed his impressive military skills. He was eventually able to
seize power, and during his long and prosperous reign brought newfound liberty and authority to
France. Napoleon Bonaparte was a brilliant military leader and strategist who made numerous
beneficial civil reforms and gained immense popularity throughout his Kingdom. Napoleon s civil
reforms brought about religious freedom, set up an education system, and provided France with...

Pope Pius VII was born and died in Italy, over a thousand miles away from France, which gives
him little to no insight to what life was like for the everyday people who would be affected by
his decisions. He was far more concerned with the wellbeing of his religious empire than he was
with the wellbeing of the French populace, likewise, Napoleon s interests included the expansion
of his empire along with the growth of his personal power, not the comfort of his subjects. The
Concordat made Catholicism the main religion of France while still allowing religious freedoms,
and also laid out an agreement that would be advantageous to both parties. With this agreement in
place, Napoleon would now be able to nominate his own bishops, and was allowed to keep church
land seized during the revolution. Benefits of the church included the ability to depose bishops,
along with having members of the clergy would now be paid salaries by the state, which aided the
end of the schism between church and state. Napoleon s positive reforms did not end with his

Divine Comedy Justice
Poetic justice is a literary device that allows one to see how evil is punished and how good works
are rewarded. In the Divine Comedy, it is revealed that in Heaven and Hell there is good and evil
will both be punished or rewarded justly. The story follows Dante and how he witnesses poetic
justice, which is exercised in every part of the Divine Comedy. Hellis emphasized as being the
penalty for evil. Purgatory contains those who were a mixture of both good and evil, and they are
reconciled and purged. Heavenis the place in which goodness and kindness are rewarded with
eternal life on the planets under the glow of God and His magnificence. Poetic justice/purgation is
seen throughout Dante s Divine Comedy through Dante s discovery of... Show more content on

The story of Laocoon is popularly found in the Aeneid, where Laocoon warned the Trojans
against bringing the wooden horse into Troy; as he suspected soldiers to be hiding in it.
According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, Laocoon was from Troy and was the priest of the god
Apollo. Laocoon had made a promise to Apollo to be celibate, as he was his priest. Laocoon
ended up breaking this promise and got married and had children. Apollo was mad about this.
While Laocoon and his two sons were preparing a sacrifice for Poseidon, two giant serpents, sent
by Apollo, crushed them to death (Encyclopedia Britannica).
This story is a great example of deception and justice. Like the thieves in the Inferno, Laocoon knew
that breaking his promise to Apollo was wrong but did it anyway. He proved that he was not
trustworthy. Like the thieves, Laocoon also got his just punishment. Serpents were introduced into
the story as a punishment from Apollo, just like serpents were introduced into the Inferno sent by

Summary and Explanation of Proposals
In order for ZXY Inc. to make sure that their entire organization is secure, some proposals have
been put into place to protect the company. The company needs to make sure that the network, their
employee s, company devices, and communications are secure from the outside world. The
proposals that have been put into place cover such areas as: access control methods, authentication,

Access control is used in determining whether or not to grant or deny access to these resources
or services to an employee, group of employees or to an entire department. There are four
commonly used types of access control methods; however for a smaller company without many
employees at this point in time Discretionary Access Control (DAC) would be good starting
point for ZXY Inc. Discretionary access control allows the owner of the service or resource to
determine who is granted and who is denied access to certain resources. The owner of each
resource and service will be given full authority on granting and denying permissions over what
they have ownership of. ZXY Inc. does need to make sure that it does not make just one
employee the owner of every resource and service. This is done in order to make sure that one
potential bad employee doesn t harm the entire company s information security network with
malicious acts. In regards to user accounts and passwords, a few steps should be taken in order to
safeguard company information and protect company data. Each individual employee should be
given a unique username that will be used as part of the employee s network log on. Each unique
username will then be used by the IT department and DAC owner s in order to grant and/or deny
permission s. By having unique user names for each employee, the owners

Doe V. Taylor Independent School Case Study
Doe v. Taylor Independent School District, 7.3 (5th Circ. 1994). This article discusses Jane Doe, a
Texas high school girl sexually molested by a high school teacher. Jane Doe filed a civil suit
against Taylor independent School District. The reasons were, the school board permitted violations
of due process and violated her equal protection rights. Jane thoroughly established her
constitutional rights and proceeded with her claim. The teacher violated the fourteenth amendment
to be free from sexual abuse by a state employed teacher. The court ruled in favor of Doe, stating
that there was no action taken in order to prevent the violation of her rights. This case impressed
me, it was very interesting. I believe that the teacher violated the studentrights and the schoolfailed
to properly respond to the claims of molestation. I was also shocked that the school district was not
proactive toward Doe needs.

Louisiana Purchase Dbq Essay
The Louisiana Purchase nearly doubled the size of the United States in 1803. Jefferson decided
to buy the land because he wanted to increase the United States s territory towards the Pacific
ocean and to avoid a war with the French. Due to the purchase, Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis
and William Clark to explore the new unfamiliar land with three goals. The goals were to makes
maps of the newly bought territory and find a river passage to the Pacific ocean, make peace
with the Native American, and to record and send back discoveries of new plant and animal life
that lived within the Louisiana Territory. These were the goals that Lewis and Clark had to
achieve. The first goal was to draw accurate maps of the land and to find a water route that led
into the Pacific ocean. Lewis and Clark began their expedition at St. Louis and travelled through
the Missouri River. Clark was a map maker and he drew accurate maps of the land. Document 1
demonstrates an example of Clark s detailed and accurate map of the Missouri River. The map

How Does Chaucer Describe The Wife Of Bath
The medieval period is the period in history beginning with the Renaissance, literally meaning
the middle period in history. Clothing, tradition, religion and lifestyle were viewed much
differently than they are in today s modern society. The best example of all the different types of
people and their lifestyles is Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, in which he opens with a description of
twenty nine people going on a pilgrimage. The way people behave today allows readers to
recognize each character s distinct personality. In the General Prologue , Chaucer describes the
Wife of Bath in a way that is much different than how he describes the other twenty eight
characters. His use of imagery, word choice, tone and rhythm to describe the Wife lure... Show more

respectable throughout her life due to her incredible skills as a cloth maker (Chaucer 461). She

expertise and is not shy at presenting herself in front of other people. Chaucer describes her
physical appearance in ways that express a lustful and almost seductive person during this time

representation of what seemed to attract a man to a lady during this time. She was a very open

Immeasurable Ramifications Of Infant Neglect
The immeasurable ramifications of infant neglect stems from more than just the neglect itself.
Although, society finds neglect inexcusable there are risk factors that put some infants in greater
danger than others, disparities can start before birth and others are historical predisposition,
learning disorders, socio economic status and lack of knowledge (Bartlett, Raskin, Kotake,

Shakespeare was to literature. Why did he find himself so attached to writing and how did he get

III: Early Life:
Although he is best known for his works as a successful adult, William Shakespeare was once a
child. Www.bardweb.net states, John Shakespeare had a remarkable run of success as a merchant,
alderman, and high bailiff of Stratford, during William s early childhood. His fortunes declined,
however, in the late 1570s. Shakespeare s family was very financially successful during most of
his childhood. This could have gave him motivation to have just as much success. William,
according to the church register, was the third of eight children in the Shakespeare household three
of whom died in childhood.(www.bardweb.net) Though he had a very rich childhood, William
learned the pain of loss at a very young age. Did this pain grow through adulthood.
IV: Middle Life William Shakespeare had started his adulthood late teen years. When they

Panama Canal Thesis Statement
Thesis Statement
There is no doubt that the building of the Panama Canal was a major feat in history that has made
a huge impact on the way many countries trade with each other. It was a great struggle to complete
but it also was very rewarding.
The Land Area
The Isthmus of Panama is about 50 miles wide at its narrowest point. The land was thick with
jungle, deep swamp, and mountains. What the surveyors did not realize is that the geology behind
the land made it much harder to build the canal than in other places around the world. The
surrounding mountain range was formed differently than most mountain ranges, commonly formed
by folding due to lateral pressure. These mountains were formed by individual volcanic actions.

In 1876, French Navy Lieutenant Lucien N. B. Wyse, a grandson of Lucien Bonaparte, was sent
to explore locations and different possibilities for the canal. He returned home in April 1877 and
showed De Lesseps the construction plans. De Lesseps rejected all of the plans because they
required tunnels and locks to be built. De Lesseps prefered to build a sea level canal like the
Suez Canal. Wyse went back to the isthmus on December 6, 1877. He explored two routes in
Panama, one through Nicaragua and one through Panama. In the end he chose the Panamanian
route, which would be sea level. The route would follow the Panama Railroad and require a 7,720
meter long tunnel through the Continental Divide at Culebra. He traveled to Bogota and the
Colombian government signed a treaty on March 20th, 1878 that granted rights to build the canal
through Panama, then part of Colombia. The treaty promised Colombia ownership of the canal
after 99 years. It was estimated to take six years and $240 million. The digging started the first day
of 1880
By March 1883, construction was behind schedule and 660,000 out the promised 5,000,000 cubic
meters have been excavated. After visiting Panama in 1886, De Lesseps claims construction will
be done by July 1889. Later that year, only a few feet out of hundreds have been removed from the

Persuasive Essay For Study Abroad

remember watching Lizzie McGuire as a child and she went to Romeand impersonated an Italian
pop star, Isabella. She met this handsome man who took her to tour the city. Everyone eventually
realized he was using her to ruin Isabella, but it was still a happy ending for Lizzie McGuire. I
wanted that happy ending it looked like so much fun running around Rome. The expenses are
outstanding for the trip, but at least I have an agenda all laid out by the program. For this study
abroad, I could not find the exact requirements for attendance, but the minimum gradepoint average
(GPA) for school activities are ranging from 2.5 to 4.0 GPA scale. The classes or study abroad
will not be available if ten or more students are not enrolled. I would also recommend the students
classification to be a junior or higher because at this point they are older and responsible enough to
take their classes seriously and make it an adventurous tour of learning and exploring. The program

Common House Construction Of Houses In The Aztecs
The Aztecs dwellings tended to be built on a similar pattern in the empire (though smaller for the
poorer classes and larger for the nobles), there were several variations on the theme. Some houses
would have flat pole roofs, others peaked roofs. Though it was common for houses to be built right
on the ground, some were built on platform.
Materials included in common house construction included straw, wood, stone, sand, lime, and
clay. Straw would often be used for the construction of roofs. Adobe bricks, very common in the
construction of houses in the Aztec empire, would be made from water, sand, clay, and a material
such as straw. The name translates to dried brick in Spanish. Floors might be dirt, stone, or plastered.

Comparison of the Explorations of Portugal, Spain and France
During the exploration of the New World Portugal, France, and Spain had one thing in common
to search for new resources such as sugar, spices, and gold. The European arrival in the Americas
set a new era off known as the Columbian Exchange which changed the America s forever.
Native Americans introduced the Europeans to several new crops such as corn, squash,
pumpkins, and sweet potatoes. Portugal set off for a search for sea route to Asia, while in
competition with Spain who was also seeking an active root to Asia as well. The French
exploration occurred later after the New World was found, and their target was to find a
Northwest Passage where they hoped for a route through North America to the pacific. Portugal s
explorations of the Africa brought wealth and power for Prince Henry. It was not enough for
him, so he was looking for more opportunities, especially to trade with India. His main goal was
to find a sea route that connected to Asia. When Manuel took the throne, he organized a large
expedition to India. After 22 days of sailing the crew landed Portugal reached their goal; they had
found their long sought water route. I feel that without the advanced technology that Portugal
utilized that no such route would have been found and they would have not been able to gain
essential resources needed for their country to thrive. During the same time as Portugal s expansion
Spain was also seeking a passage from Spain across the Atlantic to Asia. A man from

A Discussion Of Herodotus And Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca
It s a New World
(A discussion of Herodotus, Cabeza de Vaca and their explorations)

others, soaking in the sight you re seeing, or even trying to document everything that is in front
of you. The discovery of new land, people, and their way of life is one for the record books. An
event like this will go down in history, and so will the person that did the discovering. This was the

His travels lead him more around different parts of America and not different countries. An article,
titled ГЃlvar NГєГ±ez Cabeza de Vaca: The Great Pedestrian of North and South America, briefly
describes some of the whereabouts of Cabeza de Vaca as he traveled around America. All five
rafts eventually wrecked along the coast of Texas... Soon Cabeza de Vaca was traveling into the

Indian captors and marched south and west hoping to find their Spanish compatriots in central

From this portion of the article, it is understood that Cabeza de Vaca did traveling, just as
Herodotus did. Both men were also known for their firsts. Cabeza de Vaca was one of the first to
visit America and stay with the tribes that inhabited land. Also one of the first from his country to
document what he had seen while there. Herodotus was also known for his firsts. Scott W. Nixon,

Herodotus writings on these subjects useful, (Nixon). His first were very important not only for
that time but for people in the future as well. Nixon continues by saying, His writings also became

WHO BENEFITS?New transport infrastructure creates value and there are many stakeholders
who benefit from well places and designed transport infrastructure. To seek a portion of this
newly created value, you firstly need to identify and beneficiaries. Existing residents as many
studies have proven, property prices increase once a major new transport infrastructure is
announced. Residents do not need to wait for the infrastructure to be built, as prices have been
shown to increase as early as the initial announcement. Residents all benefit from reduced
congestion, faster and more reliable journey times, improved quality of life. Research showed
that Melbourne s City Link had created increased land value of $30 billion. The Southern
Railway in Perth showed that there was an uplift in value over 5 years by 42% above base value
uplift for properties in station precincts. For every kilometres a dwelling in Brisbane was located
in proximity of a ferry terminal there was an increase of 4% in price. In London research found
that property within easy reach of a station was worth on average 20,000 pounds more than other
properties. Another benefit New residents will benefit in purchasing a home in a newly developed

Richard II Tragic Hero Essay
Shakespeare really wrote tragedies of great heights and earned standard category. His one of the
best creation Richard II is a historical play rather being a tragedy. The history play is usually
distinguished especially by its political purposes from other kinds of plays.shakespeare emphasized
the political issue mainly in this play. He tried to show the conflict between Richard and
Bolingbroke and finally the rebellion. The play is consequently written not about the down fall of
its hero but around the chronological stages by which Bolingbroke threatens, captures, and retains
the crown. Throughout a tragedyplay readers suffer with the hero and feel sympathy for the hero
but it does not happen with Richard II. So the play cannot be claim as a tragedy.

According to my point of view, Richard II is not a complete tragic hero. He did not have the
qualities of a real tragic hero though he was from a high ststus and died at last. He was not a
good person, a foolish king, a weak and unwise politician, irresponsible self centered person. He
misused his power, increased taxes to accomplish his luxury expenses, took wrong decision,

From the earlier scene Richard II is devoid of for anyone. Through the quarrel between

What are the key strengths and weaknesses of the supportive, directive, and participative styles of
leadership? Substantiate your response. The key strengths of participative leadership style are
increased productivity and job satisfaction. When employees are afforded an opportunity to be
involved in the organization s decision making process, they are likely to develop a strong sense of
commitment to the organization as well as increase their performance. Job satisfaction is another
key strength of this leadership style. Most employees display high levels of job satisfaction when
they notice their suggestions and/or recommendations are taken seriously and in some instances
implemented within the organization. Additionally, this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Contributions To The 14th Amendment
Robinson 1 Robinson 4
Robinson 3 Anthony Robinson Mrs Sharifian Govt 2305 28 July 2017 14TH Amendment To be
considered an American means you were born on US soil. For majority of Americans this is similar
thanks to the 14th Amendment which allows any person born in our territories to be granted
citizenship. But this law is quickly being taking advantage of by foreigners who seek to rack the
benefits of the citizenship illegally. Therefore, it is important that the 14th Amendment is updated
to have striker laws against any person seeking to enter this country legally or unlawfully to fit our
current situations in America.
Immigration is now at the forefront of problems in America. One of the main contributions to that
problem is Birth Tourism when an immigrant couple come to America legally to give birth to their
child in the states so that the child will be considered a US citizen (Sheehan, 2015). Birth Tourism
is a controversial matter because people who enter the country on visas are technically given
permission from the united states government to enter the country lawfully. Law makers are calling
for stricter laws to slow the growth rate or cute the numbers in half. The 14th Amendment was
ratified in 1868 which is still early in our countries history considering that at the time the fathers
could not predict the massive immigration problem the country is having (Will, 2010). Areas like
California, and New York are experiencing large tourist groups from China on visas

Education and Emerson Essay
1.In this essay, Ralph Waldo Emerson describes his view of an ideal education. What are its
defining characteristics?
I believe his defining characteristics on his view of an ideal education would have to include the
motherly guidance way of education, the teachers working on each student individually and the
teachers inspiring the students to think for themselves by giving them encouragement for their
thoughts.
2.In what ways is Emerson s advice appropriate to a child s first teacher his or her parents?
Some ways Emerson s advice is appropriate to a child s first teacher and his/her parents is the
advice of motherly guidance or a guiding hand. A hand that does not punish harshly, rather a hand
that encourages a child to do things, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6.Emerson refers to educating a boy and a man and uses masculine pronouns when referring to
students. As a reader, does this gender bias affect how receptive you are to Emerson s ideas?
It may increase receptivity for me because I am a teenage boy but I m not if it has much of an
affect when compared with girls reading this essay. I m not sure if it matters much.
7.Describe the adult that Emerson imagines would emerge from an education based on the principles
he supports.
Emerson probably would imagine an adult that would emerge from an education based on the
principles he supports would be hungry for the truth, would look towards the future and learning,
would not be afraid to share his ideas but what know for the most part right from wrong, and he
would have enthusiasm associated to learning. This adult be it a girl or boy will be a college of
knowledge or a wealth of knowledge with their own thoughts and opinions.
1.What does Emerson mean when he says, Nature loves analogies, but not repetitions (para.1)?
He means nature loves similarities with distinct differences not the same thing over and over again.
2.Why is the relationship between Genius and Drill, as Emerson explains it, paradoxical (para.3)?
It seems pretty self contradictory but it does shed some light on his idea. The child wants to learn

Comparison of Four Poems about Loss Essay
Comparison of Four Poems about Loss
I am comparing On my first Sonne by Ben Jonson (a pre 1914 piece of poetry, written in 1616), My
Last Duchess by Robert Browning (a pre 1914 piece of poetry, written in 1845), Mid Term Break
by Seamus
Heaney (a piece of poetry from the Heaney bank) and Cold Knap Lake by Gillian Clarke (a piece
of poetry from the Clarke bank).
The poem, On my first Sonne is about the loss of a close family member, Ben Jonson s first son,
who died at the age of seven. The poem is about the poet coming to terms with the truth, that his
first son had died and he would never see him again. In the poem, the poet goes through different
stages of grief and he is very emotional about his loss. The poem ... Show more content on

The poem is of cold emotion; the only emotion is anger at her behaviour.
Another poem about loss, Mid Term Break , confronts the death of
Seamus Heaney s younger brother, probably from an accident. Like the previous two poems, Mid
Term Break concerns the loss of a close family member. The overall view of death in this poem is
quite a dramatic one, with the description of contrasting emotions of different people.
At the beginning it is unemotional. Then the poet describes the emotions and behaviour of others
(father, family, friends, the baby, and mother). Finally, the next morning, he goes into his brother s
room to see his body. There is a sense of peace in the room,
Snowdrops And candles soothed the bedside, and he sees his brother looking pale and lying in his
small coffin. At the end of the poem,
Heaney appears to accept that his brother is dead and there is an air of calm.
In contrast to the other three poems discussed previously, the poem, Cold
Knap Lake describes the near loss of a stranger who would have drowned to death if it was not
for Gillian Clarke s mother doing resuscitation on an unknown child. Gillian Clarke remembers her
mother giving the girl the kiss of life which ultimately saved her. my mother gave a stranger s child

Russian Duels In A Hero Of Our Time And Eugene Onegin
Narrative Russian writers seem to enjoy inserting a duel in their literature. There s Pierre s duel
with Dolohov in Tolstoy s War and Peace; there s Onegin s duel with Lensky in Pushkin s
Eugene Onegin; there s Pechorin s duel with Grushnitsky in Lermontov s A Hero of Our Time,
and Bazarov duel with Pavel in Turgenev s Fathers and Sons. In this paper, however, making
comparisons between the duels from A Hero of Our Time and Eugene Onegin will be the primary
focus. When it comes to deciding if dueling was a noble form of conflict resolution, both writers
seem to indirectly portray to the reader that duels are unimpressive and ineffective. Both writers
emphasize on the challenges that could happen before, during, and after a Russian duel. If the
writers wanted to portray to the readers that duels were honorable, then they would have not
displayed the challenges that each character faced while they participated in the duel. A similarity
between the two duels of A Hero of Our Time and Eugene Onegin is who ultimately ends up being
killed. Both Lermontov and Onegin kill a character that was foolish, and who, perhaps, should not
have died. In A Hero of Our Time, Grushnitsky foolishly challenges Pechorin after mistakenly
assuming that Pechorin snuck into Princess Mary s residence to see her when she was home alone.
However, Pechorin had actually snuck into the residence to see Vera, but Grushnitsky, blinded by
jealousy, does not realize the truth. During the duel, Pechorin gains

Political Trends Of The Affordable Care Act
1.Identify political trends in your area (city, county, or state) that have contributed to or could
contribute to a crisis in a particular industry.
Several regulations imposed by governments can have an impact on organizations. Some
regulations have more effect on certain types of industries than others. The Affordable Care Act
does not necessarily affect a particular industry, but it does have consequences that could potentially
affect business owners and their employees. Under this health reform, employers with 50
employees or more are required to pay health insurance for their employees or face a penalty. The
Affordable Care Act limits the employer s options in choosing low cost insurance plans; this may
cause businesses to raise costs and reduce the hours of work and/or the wages paid to their
employees.
2.How do political and economic events comingle to create a crisis?
Both political and economic events can trigger a crisis. Political trends and laws are standards that
affect the way businesses operate. How a political trend affect business depends on the type of
industry that we are looking at; since some legislations are only directed to a certain type of
industry. Economic forces can also cause a crisis in an organization. Some factors such as the
unemployment rate, interest rate health care costs and others can definitely affect the economic
stability of any organization. Top management must consider political and economic trends that

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof Misogynist
The Misogynistic Tendencies of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams
In the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof there are three main women in the play they include Margaret
(usually called Maggie), Mae and Big Mama. These three women play an intricate roll in the
play but also have to deal with very misogynistic attitudes toward them. The relationships
between almost all of the characters in the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof has very misogynistic
under tones and overall lack of respect for women. In this essay I will firstly express what the
common role of the women was in the 1950 s. Secondly, I will discuss the misogynistic attitudes
towards the women. And Finally I will discuss the misogynistic attitudes between the women
themselves in this play. During the 1950 s, women had very different roles than they do today.
In the 1950 s one of the main role of the women was bearing children. In the case of Maggie she
was constantly pestered by Big Mama and Big Daddy about not having any children, Big Mama

appeal to Big Daddy while Mae emphasizes Maggie s downfalls. During the act where Maggie

issues we would like to address in this report are as follows: 1. Layoffs and Dismissing Employees

The HR Manager should design job descriptions with employee and supervisory input, listing job
responsibilities in descending order of time involved. These can be used in the hiring process as
well, in particular for the manufacturing jobs that have physical requirements such as the ability
to lift 25 lbs . (The Case) Since job descriptions cannot possibly list every single task an employee
may be expected to perform in their work day, other duties as assigned or another descriptor for
possible additional duties should be included. Once accurate job descriptions are in place,
performance reviews should be instituted at Doohickeys U Need. We recommend that these
take place quarterly, and that they be a collaborative effort between supervisors and employees.
Employees may be asked to evaluate their own performance against the job description in place
for their position, as well as future goals for improvement and areas which the employee feels
they most excel in. Both the supervisory and employee evaluation will be placed in the
employee personnel file. With accurate job descriptions and performance evaluations on file,
Human Resources will better be able to evaluate employee performance and decide if discipline
problems are part of an ongoing problem with an employee or if they were a one off or perhaps
even indicative of a failure in the system that points to a need for further training or resources.

African-American Riots Essay
So why did these riots occur? Is our society still prone to the same divisions which caused these
riots after sixteen years? How did economic factors play into this? Were people just fighting over
what little resources there were in Los Angeles? Institutional racism was a major factor in the
beating of Rodney King, and the ensuing riots. But it was not the only issue which drove people
to such a level of desperation. The controversy of these riots was so great that government moved
the trial of the police officers to a nearby county. During the trial, many people protested. They did

However, racism continues to be a huge problem there. This is a problem throughout the United

Americans. At the time of the riots, and today, there are racial tensions between many ethnic and

There has been a lot of racial tension between Asian Americans and African Americans. These

The Pros And Cons Of The United States Presidential System
Everything in life is not perfect whether it concerns humans or even the government. According to
Merriam Webster dictionary, government can be defined as, the group of people who control and
make decisions for a country, state, etc. Government can be organized in variety of ways, in order
to control a civilized society. For example, a governmentcan either be structured as a presidential
system or even multi party parliamentary system. The United Statesgovernment uses a presidential
system in order to govern their nation. However, Professor Christopher S. Allen believes that the
United States presidential system contains many flaws. Professor Allen s reasoning that the multi
party parliamentary system may help overcome the core institutional blockages of the American
presidential system is correct because it would result in an effective form of government where
voting rates, costly campaigning cost, confusion of roles and political accountability would mend
the political structure in United States leading to prosperity for the nation. Professor Allen believes

The Greatest Strength By Jim Collins Essay
Greatness is often sought but rarely had. Jim Collins, like many of his readers, has, however,
achieved greatness in his writing of Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and
Others Don t. Good to Great is less of an examination of how good companies become great but
more of an analysis of leadershipand social skills embraced by society s most successful through
the lens of the business world. This is the book s greatest strength; by delivering concise
information that can be utilized on the personal level, Collins is able to broadcast what would
normally be considered mundane business talk by most in a fashion that is both interesting and
actionable to the book s more than 4,000,000 buyers. Achieving best seller status, Good to Great
aims to help individuals with a background in business, politics and other leadership backgrounds
become best sellers, themselves, in their respective fields. By breaking down informational content
into its simplest forms, providing ample evidence, repeatedly engaging in repetition, and by tag
lining the most important themes and ideas, Collins hits the mark. Good to Great is methodical in
its approach of conveying its information. Each chapter has a prevailing theme that focuses in on a
key area such as the hedgehog concept which Collins suggests businesses use to determine the
model under which they will operate. Additionally, each chapter seems distinct, yet related to the
preceding and succeeding one, lacing the book together

Comparing Roosevelt s Next, And The New Nationalism
I argue that when it comes to developing our capabilities, Roosevelt s argument that the main
purpose for freedom is to benefit the community is the most viable because it helps maintain
democratic processes, while also providing a higher quality of life for all. While Sen and
Roosevelt are similar because they both believe that a society can only develop if the people are
given equal opportunity to develop their capabilities, they differ when it comes to the purpose of
fulfilling those capabilities. In this essay, I will outline Sen s argument as to why development
should be viewed in terms of maximizing our freedoms to achieve our desired lives, in contrast to
Roosevelt s argument. Then, I will advance my own argument as to why Roosevelt s... Show more

At first, Sen s argument seems appealing because we are all able to keep the fruits of our labor,
and decide what kind of life we want to live. This fits in line with man s natural tendencies
toward selfishness, and it seems that it would be difficult to develop one s capabilities simply
for the case of the commonwealth, and not for oneself. As naturally self interested beings, we
would always want to develop all of our capabilities so that we may live the lives we have reason
to desire. However, only using our freedom for self interested motives leads to numerous issues.
For example, one of the most important aspects of a democracy is exercising one s right to vote;
however, if one is only concerned with oneself, they will vote in a way that only them, and
perhaps other members of one s social class, will benefit the most. Thus, people could end up
voting for a leader who plans to make them, and others like them, wealthier by keeping wealth
within a small percentage of the population. Not only does this hinder development as Sen sees it,
but it also has many negative implications for a society; for example, it may lead to higher levels of
poverty, crime, unrest, dissatisfaction, and eventually lead to civil tension (all of which are
unfreedoms). Similarly, some members of the community may have no interest in politics, or may
think they do not pertain

Social London s West End theatres have a very, almost posh stigma surrounding them. However,
this sort of image is being removed from the area as theatres are seen as less exclusive and are
attracting a different, more diverse type of clientele. However, the prices can still feel slightly high;
as standard tickets can range from ВЈ30 to ВЈ60 with the more prestigious tickets going for prices
of ВЈ90 and even more. Prices like these, even the lower ones, may discourage people with lower
disposable incomes from visiting the area and to find a cheaper alternative, such as local, smaller
theatres meaning that there would be fewer tourists around in the area. Other factors than ESD
should look at are how the culture differs in the UK compared to their home market of the US. In
general, portions are smaller which means that their new potential customers will eat less during
their meals. This could lead to more waste being generated from leftover food, this means that the
Diner would be overspending on ingredients. If they take this into account properly, then they can
make sure they order the right amounts of food in an attempt to reduce waste. Also, due to smaller
portions, the dietary requirements of British people are generally healthier and they may not be
enticed by classic American foods. The West End is also seen as a place of classic British culture,
and an American

The Themes Of Marvel Comics And DC Comics
Marvel Comics and DC Comics were both founded in the 1930 s as, naturally, comic book
publishers. Today they form 70% of the comic book market. By 2016, that market as a whole had
hit a record high of $1.085B in both physical and digital comic book sales (Johnston, 2016)
(Comichron, 2016). Some of the highest selling comic series currently in print have strong NCC
themes. These include DC s Batmanand Marvel s The Punisher series.
Batman or Bruce Wayne, is a bat themed vigilante that carries out what he considers to be justice
within the corrupt, crime infested Gotham City. (Halevy and Cooper, 2016) (DC Comics, 2017).
Bruce Wayne is the billionaire owner of Wayne Enterprises and inherited his wealth and desire to
fight crime after witnessing his parents being mugged and then murdered. DC describes him as
both a leader and a hero. (DC Comics, 2017). In the typical Batman comic however, Batman is
being hunted by the police, mostly due to his violent solutions to crime. [He] distrusts the police
and willingly breaks the law in order to enforce his own values of what he considers justice. An
interesting example occurs in the very first Batman comic: Batman No.1 1940, in which Batman
executes a mental patient by hanging him from his Batplane. Using a toxic serum, an evil scientist
had mutated the mental patient into a very strong, enraged monster, locked him in a truck, and was
planning to use him to rob a bank. Batman kills the truck driver with the Batplane s mounted
machine gun, then makes a noose with his Batrope, lowers it down, and hangs the monster while
he s attempting to crawl out of the truck wreckage. The monster s corpse is casually dragged along
behind the Batplane, and Batman remarks, He s probably better off this way. (Cracked, 2012).
Interestingly enough, Batman had created and used an antidote to this serum just a few pages
earlier, but did not attempt, or even think to use the antidote on the monster. Despite this, Batman is
considered a superhero and is often compared to Superman, who by stark contrast, is willing to
fight alongside the law, and has faith in the American criminal justice system. (Halevy and Cooper,
2016)
Somewhat similar to Batman is the Punisher. Also known as

The Ecology Of Fear By Mike Davis
Earthquakes, fires, tornados and many more are part of one branch of disaster and are known the
most. Poverty, famine and political upheaving are also disasters. These are known as economic
disasters and affect society in many ways. We can then define disaster as being any event, natural
or economical, that causes impairment of the natural/urban environment. Many regions of the
world face these challenges, and Los Angeles is a part of these. The Ecology of Fear, by Mike
Davis, claims that the urbanization of Los Angeles has led to fear of the natural environment. As a
result, an apocalyptic society was made and is not able to interact with its natural environment. The
cityof Los Angeles was developed in harm s way. Market driven urbanization transgressed
environmental common sense (pg.9). Categorized hazardous areas, such as a floodplains and
wildfire prone regions, were developed into suburban areas and industrial districts. As a result, Los
Angeles has secured many disaster tragedies in its future, with higher body counts and greater
distress (p.55). We are not victims of sprawl...we are sprawl! Urbanization in Los Angeles was
through Selfish, profit driven presentism (pg.65). This has deafened Angelenos (natives to Los
Angeles) to the warnings of environmentalists who have cautioned about environmental crises and
ways to prevent them. This later becomes linked to social injustice. For example, when homes are
on fire in Malibu, where they should have never

The Death Of A Soul
A soul is something that is hard to describe and define as it is not a physical thing. When you
think above it is quite hard to be certain that human beings even have a soul because we cannot
see it or have hard evidence of it. Unlike the brain, which we cannot see our own but we know for
certain human beings do in fact have a brain due to the hard evidence such as brain scans and the
fact that we cannot do everyday tasks without it. However, saying that, it is quite common to think
that we all have a soulbecause if you can have a conscience, then we must have a soul. So how do
we know if we have a conscience? Well if you feel emotions such a sadness, happiness or even
anger but also have a moral sense such as knowing the difference between right and wrong then we
can conclude that you have a conscience. Even though the definition of soul is different to
everyone, the Greek philosopher Aristotledefines the soul as Form of the body in the De Anima.
He believed that the soul is not separate from the body but rather work as one. Whereas another
Greek philosopher, Plato believed according to the Republic, that the soul and the body are two
different parts which is something that I believe in. and
In the question Jana s soul is replaced with another soul, even though it will do the same work as
the old soul but I do not believe Jana is still Jana, the person she was before her soul was replaced.
Perhaps this is because a soul is what actually defines the person you are,

Essay about Internet Terrorism
Internet Security Holes and Cyberterrorism
Abstract: This paper investigates and substantiates the potential for hackers to cause damage in the
physical world. A fictional case study is provided along with an analysis of past, present, and future
technological threats. The combination of a historic apathy towards computer security and an
increased reliance on technology may soon lead to a real world cybercatastrophe .
I first learned about computer hacking from an article featured in the New York Timesmagazine
several years ago. It described the life of members of a hacking group known as L0pht. They were
neither benign nor malicious; they would simply look for holes in software products and post the

On the anniversary of the release of Windows 2004, a terrorist hacking group known as Horizon
launched a full scale assault on the city of Seattle. At exactly 6:30 P.M., the height of rush hour,
chaos was unleashed on the city. In many instances, disaster could not be avoided simply because
no physical system was in place to alleviate computer malfunction. Horizon successfully altered the
destinations of several trains, causing them to collide, killing hundreds in the process. Brake
systems on new model cars were triggered, causing multi car accidents on major highways.
Automated devices in hospitals ceased working altogether, leaving many patients without critical
life support. As a final touch, Horizon diverted several airplanes to the corporate headquarters of
Microsoft in nearby Redmond, Washington, burning the complex to the ground with a multitude of
personnel still inside. Rescue efforts were initiated immediately, but the severity of the attacks left
the dead numbering in the thousands.
Over the course of the next few weeks, Microsoft employees were able to recreate the crime and
track down the flaw. In the meantime, fears of a second attack crippled life across America. Public

The Importance Of Right To Privacy
Right to privacy is the right inclusive of, and goes beyond; property and body. It preserves the
very sanctity of the person. Right to privacy is the right which secures a person s intellect,
feelings and the spiritual nature. The Supreme Court in the case of Smt. Gian Kaur v. The State
of Punjab held that the term life as discussed under Article 21 includes A life with human dignity
. The scope of article 21 has been widened to a great deal by the brilliant judgements and now it
isn t restricted to merely basic human needs . The most recent judgement by the Supreme Court
9 judge bench in Justice K S Puttaswamy (Retd.) and Anr. v. Union of India and Anr. Wherein
the Supreme Court gives every person to live in a separate core and that core is inviolable i.e. a
life without any interference from others. While we discuss the concept of collective social
welfare and giving up of Rights, the extent to which rights can are curtailed cannot be looked
upon. Even Justice Kishan Kaul in his separate Judgement has acknowledged as follows The
right to be , though not extinguished for an individual, as the society evolved, became hedged in
by the complexity of the norms. There has been a growing concern of the impact of technology
which breaches this right to be , or privacy by whatever name we may call it. In this paper we
primarily discuss the impact of the AADHAAR scheme over the Fundamental Right to Privacy.
Even for discussing the legal aspect of AADHAAR it is almost

Rudolf Dreikurs Goal Centered Theory
In order for classroom teachers to be considered effective they need to implement well considered
and planned classroom management theories. There is a vast array of alternate theories with
various strengths and weaknesses, and their suitability is highly dependent on the school and
classroom environments, as well as the staffing structure within the school. The most appropriate
option for beginning teachers when choosing an effective classroom management theory is finding
one that best integrates with their own personal teaching philosophy (Lyons, Ford, Slee, 2014, p.
22). The following is a comparative example of Rudolf Dreikurs Goal Centered Theory, William

By catering to such needs the teacher is bolstering motivation, and producing acceptable behaviour
standards (Weiler, 2004, p. 49). A major short coming for Choice Theory is that it needs to be
implemented school wide to enable students to form a cohesive interpretation of their quality world
(Lyons, Ford, Slee, 2014, p. 26). In addition to this, Choice Theory is not a short term solution to
behaviour and motivation issues, and requires extensive commitment and effort throughout the
whole school in a collaborative approach to improving behaviour management. Which according to
Glasser (Glasser Gough, 1987, p. 659) would require complete restructuring of schools and a level
of understanding of Choice Theory to be developed within the parents and community of the
school. Like GCT, Lyon, Ford and Slee (2014) suggest Choice Theory is not likely to be the most
suitable option for managing students with challenging behavioural

Alcohol Advertisements Affecting Young People
Excessive alcohol consumption is a growing health issue that is affecting young people all
throughout Australia. Some experts believe that the main reason for excessive alcohol
consumption is due to the fact that alcohol advertising are targeting young people during sports,
while other experts disagree entirely. Excessive alcohol consumption can be very damaging to
human beings as when consumed, the alcohol goes through the bloodstream which then can lead
the alcohol to anywhere in the body. Alcohol is a depressant, meaning that it slows the body s
functional ability to complete a task. It slows down the brain s activity, and depending on how fast
they drink, or what they are drinking, it results in the person having slower reaction times, poor
memory, slurred speech, mood swings and more. The effects of the symptoms are proportional to
the blood alcohol concentration levels in your body. So the more blood alcohol concentration you
have, the slower your brain will function for example.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates a loophole for advertising alcoholic products to be televised during children s
viewing hours, considering they would be watching live sports . A recent Western Australian study
may support the idea that the advertising of alcoholic products during sports influences young
people to drink. The study found that three quarters of 155 children aged 9 15 years recognized
Bundy Bear (associated with Bundaberg Rum), and related it with alcoholic products. However,
according to Jeremy Griffiths, director of corporate affairs at Carlton United Breweries, alcohol
sponsorship drives brand choice, not consumption levels. He also argued overall alcohol
consumption has decreased since the

Cruelty In Anna Sewell s Black Beauty
As a child Anna severely hurt her ankle, because of this injury she had to rely on her mother and

greatest success.
British author Anna Sewell was born March 30, 1820 in Yarmouth, England. Her father had a
failing business at the time of her birth. As a result, when the time came Anna s familywas unable
to pay for a formal education for her. Instead Anna was provided with intellectual and moral
training (4) from her mother, Mary Sewell. With her mother as her teacher Anna learned to treat
animals well and was taught not to accept cruelty when it came to animals or the helpless, with
these teachings in mind it would later on show in her one and only book, Black Beauty. It
remained this way until Anna reached the age of twelve and was able to go to school for a proper
education. With a full life ahead of her at the age of fourteen Anna had an unfortunate ?accident or

Portraits During The Renaissance
During the Renaissance, portraits were very powerful to the Italian culture and society because
they highlighted the development of the individual. This is important because the Renaissance
focused on classical learning and art, rather than just religious figures which can be portrayed
through different portraits showing actual living people and represents humanism. Portraits in the
early 15th century were meant to be represented as the ideal republican citizen , and were also
made to honor the dead and be given as wedding gifts. People giving others portraits as gifts was a
very popular thing to do back then, especially to friends or family members because it was a way to
express love and affection towards others. Also, portraits during the Renaissance highlighted the
importance of family ancestors through history in the Italian culture.
It is very important to emphasize how Italian women were represented in portrait painting during
the Renaissance, considering how much it changed from the early 13th century, to the 15th century.

  • 2. How Did Napoleon Bonaparte French Revolution In the wake of the destructive French Revolution and the domestic struggles that took place under the rule of the Directory, Napoleon Bonaparte took power and proceeded to unify, improve, and expand France, and in the process became one of the most well know and celebrated leaders of the Western world. Born in Corsica, Napoleon received a scholarship from a French military academy where he honed his impressive military skills. He was eventually able to seize power, and during his long and prosperous reign brought newfound liberty and authority to France. Napoleon Bonaparte was a brilliant military leader and strategist who made numerous beneficial civil reforms and gained immense popularity throughout his Kingdom. Napoleon s civil reforms brought about religious freedom, set up an education system, and provided France with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pope Pius VII was born and died in Italy, over a thousand miles away from France, which gives him little to no insight to what life was like for the everyday people who would be affected by his decisions. He was far more concerned with the wellbeing of his religious empire than he was with the wellbeing of the French populace, likewise, Napoleon s interests included the expansion of his empire along with the growth of his personal power, not the comfort of his subjects. The Concordat made Catholicism the main religion of France while still allowing religious freedoms, and also laid out an agreement that would be advantageous to both parties. With this agreement in place, Napoleon would now be able to nominate his own bishops, and was allowed to keep church land seized during the revolution. Benefits of the church included the ability to depose bishops, along with having members of the clergy would now be paid salaries by the state, which aided the end of the schism between church and state. Napoleon s positive reforms did not end with his introduction of religious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Divine Comedy, it is revealed that in Heaven and Hell there is good and evil will both be punished or rewarded justly. The story follows Dante and how he witnesses poetic justice, which is exercised in every part of the Divine Comedy. Hellis emphasized as being the penalty for evil. Purgatory contains those who were a mixture of both good and evil, and they are reconciled and purged. Heavenis the place in which goodness and kindness are rewarded with eternal life on the planets under the glow of God and His magnificence. The story of Laocoon is popularly found in the Aeneid, where Laocoon warned the Trojans against bringing the wooden horse into Troy; as he suspected soldiers to be hiding in it. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, Laocoon was from Troy and was the priest of the god Apollo. Laocoon had made a promise to Apollo to be celibate, as he was his priest. Laocoon ended up breaking this promise and got married and had children. Apollo was mad about this. While Laocoon and his two sons were preparing a sacrifice for Poseidon, two giant serpents, sent by Apollo, crushed them to death (Encyclopedia Britannica). This story is a great example of deception and justice. Like the thieves in the Inferno, Laocoon knew that breaking his promise to Apollo was wrong but did it anyway. He proved that he was not trustworthy. Like the thieves, Laocoon also got his just punishment. Information Security Essay Portfolio Project Michael Harker ITS350 1 Information Systems and Security Colorado State University Global Campus Dr. Elliott Lynn 09/01/2013 Summary and Explanation of Proposals In order for ZXY Inc. to make sure that their entire organization is secure, some proposals have been put into place to protect the company. The company needs to make sure that the network, their employee s, company devices, and communications are secure from the outside world. Access control is used in determining whether or not to grant or deny access to these resources or services to an employee, group of employees or to an entire department. There are four commonly used types of access control methods; however for a smaller company without many employees at this point in time Discretionary Access Control (DAC) would be good starting point for ZXY Inc. Discretionary access control allows the owner of the service or resource to determine who is granted and who is denied access to certain resources. The owner of each resource and service will be given full authority on granting and denying permissions over what they have ownership of. ZXY Inc. does need to make sure that it does not make just one employee the owner of every resource and service. This is done in order to make sure that one potential bad employee doesn t harm the entire company s information security network with malicious acts. In regards to user accounts and passwords, a few steps should be taken in order to safeguard company information and protect company data. Each individual employee should be given a unique username that will be used as part of the employee s network log on. Each unique username will then be used by the IT department and DAC owner s in order to grant and/or deny permission s. By having unique user names for each employee, the owners ... • 5. Doe V. Taylor Independent School Case Study Doe v. Taylor Independent School District, 7.3 (5th Circ. 1994). This article discusses Jane Doe, a Texas high school girl sexually molested by a high school teacher. Jane Doe filed a civil suit against Taylor independent School District. The reasons were, the school board permitted violations of due process and violated her equal protection rights. Jane thoroughly established her constitutional rights and proceeded with her claim. The teacher violated the fourteenth amendment to be free from sexual abuse by a state employed teacher. The court ruled in favor of Doe, stating that there was no action taken in order to prevent the violation of her rights. This case impressed me, it was very interesting. I believe that the teacher violated the studentrights and the schoolfailed to properly respond to the claims of molestation. I was also shocked that the school district was not proactive toward Doe needs. #2 Franklin v. Gwinnett County Public School, 8.3 (1992). This article Discusses the case of Christine Franklin. • 11. Panama Canal Thesis Statement Thesis Statement There is no doubt that the building of the Panama Canal was a major feat in history that has made a huge impact on the way many countries trade with each other. It was a great struggle to complete but it also was very rewarding. The Land Area The Isthmus of Panama is about 50 miles wide at its narrowest point. The land was thick with jungle, deep swamp, and mountains. What the surveyors did not realize is that the geology behind the land made it much harder to build the canal than in other places around the world. The surrounding mountain range was formed differently than most mountain ranges, commonly formed by folding due to lateral pressure. These mountains were formed by individual volcanic actions. Wyse, a grandson of Lucien Bonaparte, was sent to explore locations and different possibilities for the canal. He returned home in April 1877 and showed De Lesseps the construction plans. De Lesseps rejected all of the plans because they required tunnels and locks to be built. De Lesseps prefered to build a sea level canal like the Suez Canal. Wyse went back to the isthmus on December 6, 1877. He explored two routes in Panama, one through Nicaragua and one through Panama. In the end he chose the Panamanian route, which would be sea level. The route would follow the Panama Railroad and require a 7,720 meter long tunnel through the Continental Divide at Culebra. He traveled to Bogota and the Colombian government signed a treaty on March 20th, 1878 that granted rights to build the canal through Panama, then part of Colombia. The treaty promised Colombia ownership of the canal after 99 years. It was estimated to take six years and $240 million. The digging started the first day of 1880 By March 1883, construction was behind schedule and 660,000 out the promised 5,000,000 cubic meters have been excavated. It is full of culture, fashion, great cuisines, art, and many more! It has always been on my bucket list to go to Italy. It is the perfect opportunity to visit the country especially while I am in college. I remember watching Lizzie McGuire as a child and she went to Romeand impersonated an Italian pop star, Isabella. She met this handsome man who took her to tour the city. Everyone eventually realized he was using her to ruin Isabella, but it was still a happy ending for Lizzie McGuire. I wanted that happy ending it looked like so much fun running around Rome. The expenses are outstanding for the trip, but at least I have an agenda all laid out by the program. But this law is quickly being taking advantage of by foreigners who seek to rack the benefits of the citizenship illegally. Therefore, it is important that the 14th Amendment is updated to have striker laws against any person seeking to enter this country legally or unlawfully to fit our current situations in America. In this paper, however, making comparisons between the duels from A Hero of Our Time and Eugene Onegin will be the primary focus. When it comes to deciding if dueling was a noble form of conflict resolution, both writers seem to indirectly portray to the reader that duels are unimpressive and ineffective. Both writers emphasize on the challenges that could happen before, during, and after a Russian duel. If the writers wanted to portray to the readers that duels were honorable, then they would have not displayed the challenges that each character faced while they participated in the duel. A similarity between the two duels of A Hero of Our Time and Eugene Onegin is who ultimately ends up being killed. The Affordable Care Act does not necessarily affect a particular industry, but it does have consequences that could potentially affect business owners and their employees. Introduction As a team, we have identified two additional problems that need to be addressed by Doohickeys U Need and their Human Resource Manager. As a company, Doohickeys U Need, needs to implement our recommendations to help protect the company from legal action. The issues we would like to address in this report are as follows: 1. Layoffs and Dismissing Employees 2. Healthy Work Environment Below are detailed accounts of each problem, with supporting evidence. The corresponding explanations of our solutions follow each account. As a team, we developed these solutions that if implemented, should assist Doohickeys U Need in eradicating the issues, and establish a more productive and safe workplace environment. Problem #1:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The HR Manager should design job descriptions with employee and supervisory input, listing job responsibilities in descending order of time involved. These can be used in the hiring process as well, in particular for the manufacturing jobs that have physical requirements such as the ability to lift 25 lbs . (The Case) Since job descriptions cannot possibly list every single task an employee may be expected to perform in their work day, other duties as assigned or another descriptor for possible additional duties should be included. Once accurate job descriptions are in place, performance reviews should be instituted at Doohickeys U Need. We recommend that these take place quarterly, and that they be a collaborative effort between supervisors and employees. Employees may be asked to evaluate their own performance against the job description in place for their position, as well as future goals for improvement and areas which the employee feels they most excel in. Both the supervisory and employee evaluation will be placed in the employee personnel file. With accurate job descriptions and performance evaluations on file, Human Resources will better be able to evaluate employee performance and decide if discipline problems are part of an ongoing problem with an employee or if they were a one off or perhaps even indicative of a failure in the system that points to a need for further training or resources. How did economic factors play into this? Were people just fighting over what little resources there were in Los Angeles? The controversy of these riots was so great that government moved the trial of the police officers to a nearby county. During the trial, many people protested. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, government can be defined as, the group of people who control and make decisions for a country, state, etc. Government can be organized in variety of ways, in order to control a civilized society. For example, a governmentcan either be structured as a presidential system or even multi party parliamentary system. The United Statesgovernment uses a presidential system in order to govern their nation. However, Professor Christopher S. Allen believes that the United States presidential system contains many flaws. Professor Allen s reasoning that the multi party parliamentary system may help overcome the core institutional blockages of the American presidential system is correct because it would result in an effective form of government where voting rates, costly campaigning cost, confusion of roles and political accountability would mend the political structure in United States leading to prosperity for the nation. • 38. The Greatest Strength By Jim Collins Essay Greatness is often sought but rarely had. Jim Collins, like many of his readers, has, however, achieved greatness in his writing of Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and Others Don t. Good to Great is less of an examination of how good companies become great but more of an analysis of leadershipand social skills embraced by society s most successful through the lens of the business world. This is the book s greatest strength; by delivering concise information that can be utilized on the personal level, Collins is able to broadcast what would normally be considered mundane business talk by most in a fashion that is both interesting and actionable to the book s more than 4,000,000 buyers. Achieving best seller status, Good to Great aims to help individuals with a background in business, politics and other leadership backgrounds become best sellers, themselves, in their respective fields. By breaking down informational content into its simplest forms, providing ample evidence, repeatedly engaging in repetition, and by tag lining the most important themes and ideas, Collins hits the mark. Good to Great is methodical in its approach of conveying its information. Each chapter has a prevailing theme that focuses in on a key area such as the hedgehog concept which Collins suggests businesses use to determine the model under which they will operate. While Sen and Roosevelt are similar because they both believe that a society can only develop if the people are given equal opportunity to develop their capabilities, they differ when it comes to the purpose of fulfilling those capabilities. At first, Sen s argument seems appealing because we are all able to keep the fruits of our labor, and decide what kind of life we want to live. This fits in line with man s natural tendencies toward selfishness, and it seems that it would be difficult to develop one s capabilities simply for the case of the commonwealth, and not for oneself. As naturally self interested beings, we would always want to develop all of our capabilities so that we may live the lives we have reason to desire. However, only using our freedom for self interested motives leads to numerous issues. For example, one of the most important aspects of a democracy is exercising one s right to vote; however, if one is only concerned with oneself, they will vote in a way that only them, and perhaps other members of one s social class, will benefit the most. Thus, people could end up voting for a leader who plans to make them, and others like them, wealthier by keeping wealth within a small percentage of the population. Not only does this hinder development as Sen sees it, but it also has many negative implications for a society; for example, it may lead to higher levels of poverty, crime, unrest, dissatisfaction, and eventually lead to civil tension (all of which are unfreedoms). • 43. The Themes Of Marvel Comics And DC Comics Marvel Comics and DC Comics were both founded in the 1930 s as, naturally, comic book publishers. Today they form 70% of the comic book market. By 2016, that market as a whole had hit a record high of $1.085B in both physical and digital comic book sales (Johnston, 2016) (Comichron, 2016). Some of the highest selling comic series currently in print have strong NCC themes. These include DC s Batmanand Marvel s The Punisher series. Batman or Bruce Wayne, is a bat themed vigilante that carries out what he considers to be justice within the corrupt, crime infested Gotham City. (Halevy and Cooper, 2016) (DC Comics, 2017). Bruce Wayne is the billionaire owner of Wayne Enterprises and inherited his wealth and desire to fight crime after witnessing his parents being mugged and then murdered. DC describes him as both a leader and a hero. (DC Comics, 2017). In the typical Batman comic however, Batman is being hunted by the police, mostly due to his violent solutions to crime. [He] distrusts the police and willingly breaks the law in order to enforce his own values of what he considers justice. An interesting example occurs in the very first Batman comic: Batman No.1 1940, in which Batman executes a mental patient by hanging him from his Batplane. Using a toxic serum, an evil scientist had mutated the mental patient into a very strong, enraged monster, locked him in a truck, and was planning to use him to rob a bank. Batman kills the truck driver with the Batplane s mounted machine gun, then makes a noose with his Batrope, lowers it down, and hangs the monster while he s attempting to crawl out of the truck wreckage. The monster s corpse is casually dragged along behind the Batplane, and Batman remarks, He s probably better off this way. (Cracked, 2012). Interestingly enough, Batman had created and used an antidote to this serum just a few pages earlier, but did not attempt, or even think to use the antidote on the monster. Despite this, Batman is considered a superhero and is often compared to Superman, who by stark contrast, is willing to fight alongside the law, and has faith in the American criminal justice system. Poverty, famine and political upheaving are also disasters. These are known as economic disasters and affect society in many ways. We can then define disaster as being any event, natural or economical, that causes impairment of the natural/urban environment. Many regions of the world face these challenges, and Los Angeles is a part of these. The Ecology of Fear, by Mike Davis, claims that the urbanization of Los Angeles has led to fear of the natural environment. As a result, an apocalyptic society was made and is not able to interact with its natural environment. The cityof Los Angeles was developed in harm s way. Market driven urbanization transgressed environmental common sense (pg.9). The most appropriate option for beginning teachers when choosing an effective classroom management theory is finding one that best integrates with their own personal teaching philosophy (Lyons, Ford, Slee, 2014, p. 22). The following is a comparative example of Rudolf Dreikurs Goal Centered Theory, William Glassers Choice Theory, and Cognitive Behavioural Theory which has contributors... Like GCT, Lyon, Ford and Slee (2014) suggest Choice Theory is not likely to be the most suitable option for managing students with challenging behavioural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some experts believe that the main reason for excessive alcohol consumption is due to the fact that alcohol advertising are targeting young people during sports, while other experts disagree entirely. Excessive alcohol consumption can be very damaging to human beings as when consumed, the alcohol goes through the bloodstream which then can lead the alcohol to anywhere in the body. Alcohol is a depressant, meaning that it slows the body s functional ability to complete a task. It slows down the brain s activity, and depending on how fast they drink, or what they are drinking, it results in the person having slower reaction times, poor memory, slurred speech, mood swings and more. The effects of the symptoms are proportional to the blood alcohol concentration levels in your body. This creates a loophole for advertising alcoholic products to be televised during children s viewing hours, considering they would be watching live sports . A recent Western Australian study may support the idea that the advertising of alcoholic products during sports influences young people to drink. The study found that three quarters of 155 children aged 9 15 years recognized Bundy Bear (associated with Bundaberg Rum), and related it with alcoholic products. However, according to Jeremy Griffiths, director of corporate affairs at Carlton United Breweries, alcohol sponsorship drives brand choice, not consumption levels.
