Contemporary Sociological Theory Reviewed Essay
1. Our understanding of contemporary capitalist culture and globalization has been greatly
influenced by neo Marxism. There have been many significant events all over the world such as
the Great Depression, The Second World War which have contributed to our understanding of
contemporary capitalist culture. There has been a false consciousness associated with this time
and date since capitalism continues to deliver the goods (Adams Sydie, 2002: 90). The beginning
of the end of capitalist conflict and the beginning of the beginning of socialism came with the U.S.
economic and military dominance after 1945 and also, on the other side of the coin, the Stalinist
model of socialist development failed to live up to it s own Marxist... Show more content on

They noted that the class structures of these societies were products of neo imperialism. The
domination is achieved through investment, the control of technological expertise, money
through the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The term Monopoly Capitalism
covers all of those aspects. Wallerstein proposed an analytic framework. He felt he was
conducting world system analysis and not writing world system theory. He believed there were
three factors which were essential when establishing a world economy. First, he saw an
expansion of the geographical size of the world in question. Second, the development of
variegated methods of labor control for different products and different zones of the world
economy, and Third, the creation of relatively strong state machineries in what would become the
core states of this capitalist world economy (121). Wallerstein identifies the core, periphery and
the semi periphery. The core is the economic interest which control productive activities. The
periphery is the opposite of the core. The core controls all of the periphery s resources. The semi
periphery is the mid point between the core and the periphery. It serves as a gray zone with
independent capital yet is dependent on the core for much of it s infrastructure. Wallerstein
identifies three means for moving from periphery to a semi periphery. First he talks about seizing
the chance. This is when an

The Art Of Being Hum Role Of Myth
In the textbook: The Art Of Being Human Chapter 3 is about the role of myth in the humanities.
Before art was made there was something called mythology. In every religion, there is a hero and
that hero was prophesied to save the world or save the people that believed in that religion or
followed the rules by granting them eternal life or afterlife in a promised land. The humanities
could be found in mythology. This essay will talk about how mythology, in the role of humanities,
should be considered nonfiction or real.
The birth of the hero may come in an extraordinary circumstance such as the womb of a virgin or a
mortal woman impregnated by a god. That hero is always a man. In Greek culture, that hero is
Hercules, son of Zeus and a mortal woman. In Christian Culture the hero is Jesus, son of God and
the Virgin Mary. His birth was announced by an angel and took place in an inn. Both births are
similar because they were both born with fathers that are gods and mothers that are mortals.
Muhammad from Islamic religion was also born from a virgin mother and announced by an angel.
His mother Aminah and was visited by Mary, Eve, and Asiya during the birth and Muhammed
became a prophet just like Jesus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They all have a similarity; the hero starts showing signs of superhuman powers. Right after
Hercules was born Zeus s wife sent two snakes to kill him but failed cause Hercules was
unusually strong and strangled the snakes before they could bite him. Theseus proved at age 16
that he was strong enough to push a giant boulder off of something his father buried in the earth
long ago. He along with Zeus were both physically strong since birth. Jesus at a young age turned
water into wine at the marriage of Cana and that was when his followers started seeing him as a holy

A Change is Needed in Our Right to Bear Arms
What if an individual could acquire a gun like you buy a pair of shoes whatever size or color you
want? Could you imagine what it would be like? The mere thought of every person in the city
walking around with guns is frightening. That will be the United States if Congress does not put
stricter policies in place to control the situation. When looking at the news, or reading the paper or
even surfing the web you will see overwhelming statistics. According to the USA GunViolence
Statistics, More than 30,000 people are killed by firearms each year in this country and More
than 30 people are shot and murdered each day, 1/2 of them are between the ages of 18 and 35
and 1/3 of them are under the age of 20. Gun violence has caused terror and fear across the
country due to the attacks on innocent people like Sandy Hook Elementary, where a 20 year old
killed 20 children and 6 adults, a Shooting Frenzy at Fort Hood in 2009, or the movie goer who
was shot and killed for texting in the movie theater, and Jordan Davis who was shot while in his
car at a gas station in Jacksonville Florida, and we will never forget the massacres at Columbine
and Virginia Tech. How many more people will have to die or become injured in these senseless
acts of violence before changes are made to this problematic situation? Innocent individuals are
being gun down for no apparent reasons. Enough is enough; I m not saying that we should
completely do away with the right to Bear arms ; but the policies

Online Shopping Conduct And Internet Shopping Essay
INTRODUCTION
Online shopping is almost to synonymous to customary shopping through brick and mortar stores.
As indicated by UCLA Center for Communication Policy, online shopping has been rising as a
standout among the most famous web exercises, marginally behind e mailing and internet surfing
and in addition surpasses online entertainment search and online news. Online shopping conduct
(additionally called web purchasing conduct and Internet shopping/purchasing conduct) implies to
the procedure of buying merchandise/goods or services by means of the Internet. In a standard
online shopping procedure, potential customer s see/feel/sense a necessity for some good or
service and they approach to online shopping to search about the product/service and make a
purchase decision to gratify the need. In some cases, instead of looking for intentionally, once in a
while potential customers are pulled in by information about merchandise or services joined with
the felt need. They then evaluate decisions and pick the specific alternative that best fits their
criteria for meeting the obliged need. Finally, the purchase is made and post purchase services are
given. In this term paper I explore the various attitudes, behaviors and traits exhibited by consumers
during this online purchase decision, factors which facilitate and influence their decision making.
Online shopping behavior here also refers to consumers psychological state and intent in terms of
making purchases on the Internet

Use Of Narrative In The Princess Bride
Taylor Lane Colyer
Dr. Cossar
Final Paper
April 11, 2017
Genre and Narrative in The Princess Bride
Genre and narrative appear in all forms of film; they cannot exist without each other. Films have
some form of narrative that makes it unique for a specific genre. This is due to the way the story
is told. Depending on how the story is told the audience will generate a response to the film they
are watching. Narrative and genre are used to explain the story and plot of a film. Let s look at The
Princess Bride for example; this is a genre film that uses narrative to tell a story. Through narrative
the film is able to get a response out of the audience and the audience knows how to respond to this
particular film because of past genre and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also action/adventure elements with the fire swamp and the pit of despair. These
different genres are what draw in such a diverse crowd. Genre theorist Rick Altman states how
genre classifications are down to the pre reading and knowledge that audiences have of texts,
before they watch a film they will know the story, characters, conventions, and mis en scene of
the genre (Altman: 1989). Audience members know they are in for a combination of a lot of
genres when they watch this film. The first ever film poster for the said Heroes, Giants, Villains,
Wizards, True love. Not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run of the mill, ho hum
fairytale. The film brings in a very diverse crowd, because it contains so many genres. Not
everybody likes story s about true love and not everybody likes story s about wizards and giants,
so why not put them all together. I know several older men who love this film and I also know
several young women my age who love this film just as much. The great thing about this film in
particular is that the audience might think they have a pre determined answer as to what will
happen in the end, but due to the multitude of genres it causes the audience to question themselves
and form hypotheses.
Film theorist Erlend Lavik tells us that, practically all films contain gaps that the audience must fill
in. Seeking order and coherence, we instinctively make hypotheses about what is going to happen

Neanderthals And The Middle Paleolithic
Neanderthals
Wyatt Rahn
Anthropology 1001 Human Origins
University of Northern Iowa
Neanderthals, also known as Homo neanderthalensis, existed mainly in the time period known as
the Middle Paleolithic in the regions of Europe and southwestern to central Asia. The Middle
Paleolithic took place from about 200,000 years ago until around 45,000 years ago. However, the
Neanderthals still existed for about 15,000 years after that. After the Middle Paleolithic, the
Neanderthals existed alongside anatomically modern humans and most likely interbred with them.
Although the species of Homo neanderthalensis became extinct around 25,000 years ago, their
DNA is still present in humans today. Neanderthals are without a doubt the closest extinct human
relatives to modern humans. The first Neanderthal fossil was not found until the year 1829. This
discovery in Belgium would prove to be one of the most important archaeological findings in
history. After several more of these findings occurred, we have been able to learn countless facts
about Neanderthals. Scientists believe they had very short, stocky, and powerful bodies, along
with very strong teeth and jaw bones and a surprisingly large brain. Neanderthals had the ability to
walk bipedally as we do today, and it is believed that they matured much faster than modern
humans. Dental fossil evidence shows that an eight year old Neanderthal possessed the same dental
structure as that of a ten to twelve year old

Analysis Paper on Doubt
A Bond as Powerful as Certainty A person s doubts can cloud their judgment on certain tasks at
hand. On the other hand, a person s certainty can blind someone from the truth. The argument
ofDoubt versus Certainty is relevant today in the sense that it is the main argument for and against
religion. The theory of doubt can also be used in literary works for a number of reasons. In John
Patrick Shanleys movie/play Doubt, the theme of certainty versus doubt is shown throughout the
story to signify the importance of characterization and to symbolize the importance that a person
must be cautious of the people around them.
In the movie Doubt, the idea of certainty versus doubt is a central theme to the story. Doubt and
certainty are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sister Aloysius does not have any evidence yet she is certain that Father Flynn is guilty. Shanley is
illustrating that one does not need evidence to be confident about a given claim. In this way,
Shanley illustrates through the concept of doubt that a person can be right about a given suspicion
without any proof.
The significance behind certainty versus doubt in Doubt has to do with the characterization of
both Sister James and Sister Aloysius. The characters stance on certainty versus doubt divides
the characters personalities. Sister Aloysius has a confident and strong willed character
throughout the story while Sister James is shown to have a very insecure personality and is
usually shown to be unclear about situations. This characterization is shown when Sister James
and Sister Aloysius talk about William London s bloody nose. Sister Aloysius is convinced that
William London s bloody nose was self induced while Sister James believes that William is
innocent. Sister Aloysius suspicion about William is proven to be right when William is
heading home, He has a bloody handkerchief to his nose. He s in a good mood. He takes the
handkerchief away. The nose has stopped bleeding. He smiles. He lights a cigarette. (Shanley
Script, pg 18) This foreshadows the reactions taken by both Sister James and Sister Aloysius when
it comes to determining Father Flynn s credibility. Shanley does this to give the reader an idea of
how Sisters James

Prophet Muhammad Research Paper
Muhammad was known as the prophet of Allah. With modest beginnings, he ended up starting the
Islamic religion and building an empire in Arabia. Through his life, he taught important things, and
his legacy forever has an impression on the world.
Muhammad was born in Makkah, with his father already dead. Following customs, his mother
sent him away to live with nomads for a few years. Sadly, his mother died soon after he came
home, making him an orphan. His uncle took him in, and after accompanying his uncle on trading
trips, he became a trader. Later, he began managing caravans for a widow named Khadijah, and
eventually she requested for a marriage and he accepted.

Some of his followers were tortured, but the Muslims didn t give up. As the number of Muslims
grew, the Makkans started to boycott, and refused to do any business with the Hashim clan,
Muhammad s clan. This took a toll on many people in Muhammad s clan, resulThe year
Muhammad s family died, he went on the Night Journey. This was a winged horse taking him to
Jerusalem.
Muhammad went to Madinah, because he was getting protection there. Over here, he made a
Muslim community, and had everyone respect Christians and Jews. Like Muslims, they were
known as People of the Book. The Makkans and Muslims fought many battles against each other.
After everything settled down, Muhammad led his final pilgrimage, and in Makkah, he delivered
the Last Sermon, and died soon after.
After Muhammad s death, Arabia was succeeded by 4 rightly guided people, also known as the 4
caliphs. Over the course of 100 years, the 4 caliphs expanded the empire, and spread Islam from
Spain to India. There were sometimes disagreements, and the Muslims and the Umayyads started a
civil war when Ali became 4th caliph. After Ali was murdered, the leader of Umayyad clan claimed
the caliphate and started a dynasty, which eventually lead to a split between the Sunnis and the Shi

There has been an increasing growth in the development of new energy resources that can
compete with the energy demands of the growing population of the world. In this manner, a
number of steps have been taken in the major parts of the world. Solar power is been in use
since a long time. With the increasing demands of oil and gas there is a rapid decrease in the
supply of these natural resources, and hence, the authorities are looking for alternative ways to
supply the power to the exceeding population of the world. Saudi Arabia is one of the richest
countries in terms of natural resources and the supply of oil to other parts of the world is one of
the major parts of their stable economy. This is the reason why the authorities... Show more content

How Does The Hatchet Change Throughout The Novel
Goodbye cheesy cheeseburgers, salty french fries, creamy, smooth milkshakes, and cold, refreshing
soda; hello stinky, uncooked fish, small, nasty raw eggs, and wild, bitter berries. Brian must learn
to survive in the Canadian wilderness, and the the nature around him can end his life if he is not
careful. Brian runs into many animals and his character dramatically changes throughout the novel,
which changes his view on life and his situation. In the beginning of the story, Brian is a whiner
and near the middle and end of the story, Brian changes and starts to realize that he is part of nature
and he adapts to his surroundings!
In the beginning of the story, Brian is given a Hatchet and put on a Cessna 406 Bush plane. He
grudgingly gets on. He is on his way to visit his dad since his parents had a divorce. While on the
plane the pilot has a heart attack and the plane crashes in the canadian wilderness. All Brian does is

The United States Role in Causing the Nicaraguan Revolution
The Nicaraguan revolution of 1979 is an event that many American citizens may not know about.
What is likely less understood is the United States role in the cause of this revolution. The US
actually played a very important role in causing the Nicaraguan revolution. The US did three major
things that strongly influenced the revolutionaries to revolt against the government. The US helped
create the National Guard of Nicaragua, a group that abused citizens and blatantly disregarded for
human rights. The US was also complicit in the assassination of Augusto Cesar Sandino, a citizen
who fought against US Marine occupation in the 1930 s. Finally, the US supported the Somoza ...

only the first of many more interactions between the United States and Nicaragua. The US
marine occupation began in 1912 and continued to 1925, ended, and then occurred again from
1926 till 1933. During this time period, there were a variety of reasons for the US occupation of
Nicaragua. The most prominent reason seemed to be the geography of Nicaragua. Holding
Nicaragua gave the United States an area that would allow, first of all, US influence over more
of Central America, as Nicaragua is right in the middle of Central America, and, second of all, it
was seen as an area suitable for a transoceanic waterway . Since Nicaragua borders both the
Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, a canal connecting the two would be fairly feasible. The
existence of this canal could bring great profits to US investors and US companies. This US
occupation eventually led to the creation of the Nicaraguan National Guard. The Nicaraguan
National Guard was created in the 1920s and trained by US Marines. The US Marines were in
Nicaragua in order to create order and civility. Once people began to rebel against the Marines,
the US decided to create an organization to serve the same purpose the Marines did. The National

Personal Reflection For Personal Assignment
The purpose behind this assignment from my own understanding is for a couple of reasons. One
of them is to help improve and practice report writings/responses, while another reason is to
express what we believe our strengths and weaknesses will be in this chosen career path. This
assignment is beneficial because it will prepare us for future writing assignments in the program,
and betterunderstand how we will be graded. It will also help us reflect on what skills we think we
can bring to the table, along with weaknesses we can improve on. It will be a useful assignment
to reflect on my own personal strengths, and will be a beneficial tool to my success in this
program. This career choice (specifically EMS dispatching) is something I m hoping I could be
exceptional at because of my experience working as an EMT. I attended PMA in 2014 where I
learned a variety of useful skills from great instructors that could easily crossover to dispatching.
I then mastered these skills out on the field, working hand in hand with Emergency Services! I
like to think with this experience I can bring quick decision making skills to the table; as well as
limited medical knowledge for certain situations when necessary. I have experience in triaging,
and can handle stressful situations exceptionally well while staying emotionally detached. In
fact, nothing was more thrilling to me then heading to a call full lights and sirens! There s no
better feeling than conquering those tough decisions, and knowing you ve done all you can to
help someone. I also bring excellent communication skills to the table due to my large
personality and theatre experience in high school. When I say large personality, I don t mean it
in an obnoxious way. It s more so in a personable way, where I love talking to people and am
outgoing. It s helpful to have when your trying to keep someone on the phone during a tough
call, or when you need to keep a person calm in a stressful situation. It s important to be able to
talk to people without being shy or nervous, and having them feel like they can trust and rely on
you. This is also an important skill to have when you work alongside other coworkers, you need to
be able to speak up and get along with your peers

Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel
Analytical Essay on Fun Home By: Alison Bechdel Even though a lot of thing events that
happened to Bechdel was sad, dark, or scary she manages to use a very witty tone throughout the
story reflecting on her personality. She believes dark events are not central to one s life. She
uses this tone as oppose to an angry tone because she never realized her family was any different
until she was compared it to others. This strongly classifies Bechdel in the optimistic category of
personalities. The tone of this novel can strike many people as hard to determine or understand.
One of the best things about this novel is the consistency that Bechdel creates from her earliest
childhood memories all the way until the ending of the book. Tone is known to illustrate the
underlying feelings of the author. What is also very striking is Bechdel s lack of emotion when
any surprising event happens to her. What most tend to remember is when Mr. Bechdel s death
is announced to Bechdel and how she responds to the news. Speaking normally, or what most
would refer to as normal is to have some kind of emotional breakthrough when finding out their
loved one has passed in a tragic accident. Is he dead? (Bechdel 81). In these three words Bechdel
demonstrates her inability to fit into the mere normal category of reactions and blows the audience
away. Bechdel explains how she cried for about two minutes to her girlfriend at the time and that
was the most of mourning she did at all. Using the witty

Tale Of Genji Critical Lens
I think that one of the main points for the first source, The Tale Of Genji, is that Japanese literature
can be just as important and masterful as European/Western and that The Tale of Genji shows that
by being amazingly written. I see that in this quote: If nothing else, the publication of this new

Self Preservation Is Not The Bee s Knees Essay
Self Preservation is Not the Bee s Knees: A Refutation to Part III of Spinoza s Ethics
Benedict de Spinoza takes an unique stance in his Ethics, claiming all things exist only to
prolong their own existence and preserve their essence. Yet there are plenty of examples in
nature alone that seem to counter his claims where creatures strive for an action that will lead to
their deaths, as seen in the case of various species of spiders and bees. However, Spinoza s claim
that things strive to preserve their essence fails to fulfill his goal in explaining how and why nature
works the way it does, as seen in the case with self sacrificial spiders as well as the behavioral
and biological aspects of male bees (drones). Thus, I argue that although Spinoza tries to move
away from a teleological account of the world to a more mechanistic one by introducing his idea of
self preservation, his idea is lacking and is unable to actually explain anything in depth, and we
therefore must look to Aristotle s account of final causes to actually understand the behavior of
aforementioned creatures. In order to develop my argument I will begin by discussing Spinoza s
stance on the self preservation of essence and why his account fails to actually provide an in
depth explanation about how nature works, and then I will look at the behavior of male redback
spiders as well as the self destructive biology of male bees which will help demonstrate why
Aristotle s teleological account of nature is still

Shopping Vs. Online Shopping
We all know that shopping at stores requires us to go to mall or department stores in buying
supplies and spend our money. Now we live in the age of internet and buying things can now be
done by clicking a mouse. Because of the numerous benefits of shopping online more and more
people these days prefer online shoppingover conventional shopping. But which one gives us the
best benefits? Our discussion centered on three differences between shopping at stores and
shopping online.
Our first point of discussion is the dissimilarity between shopping at stores and shopping online is
time. Shopping in the stores spend more time than shopping online. A trip to the mall could take
two to three hours including transportation time. You must spend... Show more content on

Many internet companies operate as online retailers only which means they don t have to pay
any intermediaries such as distributors and they don t have to hire sales people. Thus, they can
pass some of the savings to the customers by offering reduced prices. Internet also enables the
customers to do price comparisons in an instant, thus, they can buy from the online retailer that
offers the best prices. Internet companies are aware of this thus, they price their inventory
competitively. Moreover, companies get bigger audience of their products online so they often
put clearance products on sale and offer other deals to clear out inventory faster. Moreover, most
customers are also able to save on taxes because taxes are applicable only if the online retailer
operates in the same state as the customer. Shopping mall retailers have higher costs because not
only they have to invest in physical property but they also have to hire sales people and
managerial staff. Their audience is only limited to the number of visitors in the shopping mall at
any time. Thus, they are forced to generate higher sales per customers which mean higher prices
on the average. It s also more expensive for the visitors to compare prices in terms of both cost and
time, thus, the shopping mall customers are at a

Why Some Polar Covalent Substances Are Soluble In Water
As found in the group lab, polar covalent substances are soluble in water due to the dipole dipole
attraction between water and the molecule. They are also soluble in ethyl alcohol for this same
reason. Also, they are not conductors in H2O because there are no charged particles floating
freely, they are elements, not ions. Lastly, they have a melting point between 1000C and 5000C
due to the dipole dipole forces within the molecule. In the independent lab, it was found that the
substance in container 4 met most of the requirements for it to be classified as a polar substance. It
was soluble in water and ethyl alcohol, it did not conduct electricity in H2O and had a melting
point between 1000C and 5000C. Although, the chemical within this container was not soluble in
ethyl alcohol and soluble in hexane. This could have been due to the ratio of the substance and

In the previous lab, it was found that ionic substances are soluble in water due to the dipole dipole
attraction between the partially negative oxygen and partially positive hydrogen within the water
molecule to the ions within the ionic compound. It is also a conductor in water due to the
dissociated, free floating ions that create charges within the solution. Also, they have a melting
point above 5000C due to the magnitude of the bonds held between atoms. Lastly, they react with
.1M NaOH which is a strong base since ionic compounds are formed by an acid base reaction.
While conducting the various tests to determine the type of bond for the chemical in container 5, it
was shown that it meets all of the requirements for it to contain ionic bonding. It was soluble in
water, acted as a conductor in water, had a melting point above 5000C, and reacted with .1M
NaOH. This reaction between the substance and NaOH was shown when the solution became
cloudy which indicated that a solid precipitate was in

Essay Analysis of U.K Supermarket Development Strategy
Part one: Supermarket retail industry introduction
Effective strategy is developed first by identifying and understanding the implications of the
changing events in the business environment. Many of the events occurring currently have a wide
international impact, and they may be seen to be influencing the results and responses of large
supermarket retailers. The changes, or issues, that we see as important from a strategic planning
perspective are:

For example, Wal Mart is the leading retailer in the US, Canada and Mexico. So in these areas, the
market objective is holding the exist market and beat back the rivals. But in China, there are large
development and profit room for Wal Mart. So, the market objective is building the market quickly.
In UK market, Tesco is extraordinary stronger than other companies as the below charts show. So if
ASDA (Wal Mart) wants to survive even gain more profit, it should put itself in a challenger
position with Tesco which means put the build objective in the first place. It also means the
business strategy of ASDA (Wal Mart) should focuses on business growth and winning market
share from Tesco and other strong companies, such as SainsburyВЎВЇs and Morrison. But for
Tesco, its main mission is holding its market share and making sense of the competitorsВЎВЇ
action.
B.Marketing Analysis
It is critical and essential to set some marketing policies and methods supporting the implementation
of the strategy. So, next, we will move to the analysis of marketing policies and methods adopted
by ASDA (Wal Mart)
For the sake of clear and comprehensive consideration, we will use the model of positioning for
services to explore the marketing world of ASDA (Wal Mart).

Skinner vs. Bandura
Behaviorism has been a major school of thought in psychology since 1913, when John B. Watson
published an influential article. Watson argued that psychology should abandon its earlier focus on
mind and mental processes and focus exclusively on overt behavior. He contended that psychology
could not study mental processes in a scientific manner because they are private and not accessible
to outside observation. In completely rejecting mental processes as a suitable subject for scientific
study, Watson took an extreme position that is no longer dominant among modern behaviorists.
Thus, most behaviorists view an individual s personality as a collection of response tendencies that
are tied to various stimulus situations. A specific situation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, I clowned around in class and gained appreciative comments and smiles from
schoolmates. This social approval reinforced my clowning around behavior. If such behavior
would have been reinforced with some regularity, it would have gradually become an integral
element of my personality. Similarly, whether or not I developed traits such as independence,
assertiveness, or selfishness depended on whether I got reinforced for such behavior by parents
or by other influential persons. Negative reinforcement occurs when a response is strengthened
(increased in frequency) because it is followed by the removal of a (presumably) unpleasant
stimulus (Skinner, p.67). Do not let the word negative here confuse you. Negative reinforcement
is reinforcement. Like positive reinforcement, it strengthens a response. However, this
strengthening occurs because the response gets rid of an aversive stimulus. Consider a few
examples: I rush home in winter to get out of the cold. I clean my house to get rid of a mess.
Parents gave in to my begging to halt my whining. Negative reinforcement plays a major role in
the development of avoidance tendencies. As you have may notices, many people tend to avoid
facing up to awkward situations and sticky personal problems. This personality trait typically
develops because avoidance behavior gets rid of anxiety and is therefore negatively

Hence with higher gross income of households also means that Australians has higher disposable
income which allows them to spend more on dining outside. In real terms, spending on food has
increased 30 percent (over the past 20 years) while incomes have risen 36 percent, according to
the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry 2012 foodmap report. Thus, this
increases the bargaining power of buyers as Australians are able to spend more on food due to a
higher gross household income. A restaurant is characterized by their food standards and service
standards. The way how food is cooked and its taste differs from restaurant to restaurant. The key
to success for restaurants is by differentiation from other restaurants. For example, Manhattan
fish market signature dish is their flaming seafood platter whereby their sea cret agent would
flame it up when it is served this. While in comparison fish n co serves up their fish and chips in
different sauces according to the country s favorite sauce such as for Singapore; Chili crab, India

It seems like every week we hear about thousands and thousands of people losing their jobs. Back
in the 1980s most of the job losses were in the blue collar sector. In the 1990s it seems many of the
cuts were made in the white collar, management jobs. Why? Think about it. Technology, to a large
extent, has driven organizations to change the way they operate and that includes the way they
manage. We re going to take an in depth look at how organizations work and how they ve been
transformed by technology on the world stage.
Information systems are the foundation for conducting business today. In many industries, survival
and even existence is difficult without extensive use of information technology. No longer can we
imagine going to work and conducting business without them. As a society we have come to rely
extensively on the use of information appliances such as cell phones, BlackBerrys, handhelds, and
other hardware. Communicating and conducting business is increasingly being carried out through
the use of e mail, online conferencing, and international teleconferencing over the Internet have all

The Importance Of Music In The High School Band Room
Albert Schweitzer once said, There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and
cats. While cats are really great, music can be a safe haven for many people; I myself feel most at
home when surrounded by music. The best place for me to have this safety, security and acceptance
is in the high schoolband room. For most, it is just a room filled with instruments and kids who
don t want to go to gym; but the memories and friends made there are what make that room so
special. The bandroom during class or a performance day is almost always full of noise and
activity. People are playing instruments, whether they are practicing difficult sixteenth note runs
or just making noise to warm up. The drum line is usually practicing their parts as loud as
possible, and the volume of the room just continues to rise. Those who aren t playing are usually
having conversations, and sometimes have to yell so their friend can hear their words. Every
bit of sound is amplified by the slanted ceiling, it s main function to propel sound forwards. The
walls are covered in motivational posters, most of them handmade by former band kids; the
instrument lockers and all of the shelves are crowded with every trophy earned by the band over
the years like a massive showcase. There is a thrum of energy in it all, and it is electrifying,
sending a jolt of excitement before a game, or helping to motivate us for the long practice ahead.

behind is still felt today; with the special olympics having an attendance of over 3 million
people. Along with that, we have seen the rights and view of special needs people increase ten
fold, compared to what they were in the 1960 s. They are as much a part of modern society as
anyone else is. Let s begin with some historical context from the 1960 s. The United Stateswas

were treated. In the 1960 s, there was no conclusive research done that explained why mentally
disabled people were how they were. Because of this, society casted them aside, considering them
useless and a waste of time to deal with. The mentally disabled were frequently placed in mental
facilities where conditions were awful. A young patient at a mental facility recalled a punishment
he received at Rockland County Mental Asylum in the 60 s: When we started to misbehave, they
would tie us down with icy cold wet sheets. These were the types of punishment administered to
mentally disabled people because they didn t really know what else to do with them. Another social
stigma around the mentally disabled was that they brought a sort of shame to their families. In turn,
many mentally disabled children were kept hidden by the families to avoid embarrassment, and also
because no one thought they could function like normal members of society. Eunice

Jonathon Green How Do You Say Sex Summary
In his article, How Do You Say Sex?, Jonathon Green describes how we are using more slangs
words in our life than the original words. Now a day, we keep generating more slang words just
to make the original word looks fancier, shorter and stylish. In addition, a group or a community

word is being used by other group now it is a time to generate a new slang to replace the old one.
This is how the slang languagehas been dominating the society. For instance, a word stupid has

How Important Did Edwin Chadwick Improve Public Health In...
How important was the role played by Edwin Chadwick in improving public health services in
towns in the nineteenth century? (16 marks)
Edwin Chadwick s hard work produced a mass of evidence supporting public health reforms. In
1842 his report that was published ( Report on the Sanitary Conditions of the Labouring Population
) influenced the government and persuaded people that reform was needed. His report s
recommendations were the basis for the 1848 Public Health Act.
However, Chadwick did have a few limitations along the way. His report in 1842 did not lead to
immediate reform. The Public Health Act came 6 years later in 1848 and this act did not force
councils to reform public health. His personality antagonised people and did ... Show more content

The core of the project was completed by 1865 but because it was such a big project, it took
another 10 years to complete. He made sure the system had a much higher capacity than was
needed in the 1860s.
Other than this, there were other factors that helped improve public health such as the role of the
government. In 1867, working men in towns were given the right to vote and this meant the
number of voters doubled which increased again in 1884 and this mean politics changed
drastically. In the 1870s/1880s many new laws were passed which were designed to improve the
lives of ordinary people such as the Public Health Act in 1875.
Another factor which helped improve public health was chance. The timing of the 1848 Public
Health Act was the result of the latest epidemic of cholera. As cholera spread across Europe in
1847 fear grew in Britain of many thousands of deaths to come. Therefore the government finally
followed Chadwick s recommendations and passed the Public Health Act in the hope that this
would reduce the impact of cholera. However, the 1848 Act was not compulsory. Only 103 towns
set up local Boards of Health. Many more did not, and the National Board of Health, set up to
oversee reforms, was abolished after only six years in 1854.
The Great Stink in 1858 occurred in the summer which was really hot and this resulted in the smell
from the river growing worse. This added to the evidence that more

Essay on Benefits of a Tax on High Fat Foods
Descartes In this essay, I will explain Descartes central method of doubt to investigate the truth of
things, in which he wanted to be critical and generated four rules that he would use as guidance.
With his method, he suspends judgment and prejudices to obtain better results. Descartes argues
that despite syllogisms has truth in logic, it still has something defective, which is predominantly
the multiplicity of rules. These rules might bring immorality and confusion, thus prevent him for
arriving at the knowledge of things because it might bring more doubt than truth.
At the beginning of the creation of his method, Descartes looks for a method of reason that would
be free of the defects of logic, however, he still sought his method ... Show more content on

Following this model, he develops his method based on his reason alone without the interference
from others or his prejudices that could affect his reasoning. He claims that the interference of
more than one person, in the creation of something causes a less perfect and less organized thing
compare to things done by only one person. For instance, he exemplifies this with his education; he
considers his education has a deficiency because all the sciences taught to him were from different
men from different eras.
Moreover, in order for Descartes method to discover a great way for seeking the truth of things,
he based his method on the geometrical style, which entails clarity and certainty of things. In
geometry, Descartes finds the notion of clear and distinct ideas, which are considered clear and
distinct because they are simple and unquestionable truths, and also they could be easy understood.
In addition to it, he finds this method to be promising because he comprehends geometrical figures
to be absolutely evident, not probabilistic. The fact that Descartes was looking for a method that
will help him to find the truth of things encourages him to look for a method with the properties of
logic, mathematics and geometry, but obviously excluding their defects. He just set out four rules
rather than a large number of rules: 1) to never accept anything as true unless it is so clear and
distinctly, meaning there is no minimum doubt; 2) to reduce every single complex

The Ethics Of The Bridge
Ethics:
The bridge we have created is ethical in the sense that it has a dependable purpose relative to its
location, and its uses. By implementing a floating bridge, in a non linear terrain in the city of
Champong Chnnang it allows for effective, and efficient commute between two villages. This idea
allows for the saving of time and money, by not implementing a less efficient method of
transportation and trade between the two villages. THIS ISN T GOOD ENOUGH, LET
EDWARD ADD SHIT TO THIS TOO.
Sustainable Design:
The bridge has a very well designed sustainability concept, relying on upcycled materials to
complete the bridge. These upcycled materials consist of the wood, the fishing net, the oil barrels
and the plastic shielding for the barrels. These materials can be used for functional roles in the
design, such as platforms, floatation, safety lines across hand rails, and so on. The bridge s
sustainability concept can be further supported by the ease of replacing materials, and not
throwing them in the bin. The materials such as wood, plastic and pieces of metallic bolts and nuts
can be recycled and reused for other purposed such as furniture, storage or completely recycled
back into a molten form for the metallic objects.

What Is A Man For All Seasons
A man for all seasons, in that short phrase one man s character and merit, are heightened to unseen
levels. The film A Man for All Seasons directed by Fred Zinnemann and written by Robert Bolt
does a phenomenal job at depicting the history of the 16th century. More specifically the quarrel
between Thomas Moreand King Henry VIII. The evaluation I prepared goes over movies purpose,
is it biased, historical accuracy, movie s message, actors in relation to the film, and if the movie

Examples Of Assimilation In Fahrenheit 451
The author of Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury, develops the idea of assimilation throughout the
story. Due to everyone acting the same and not really having to think on their own, they are so
adapted to the theory books are evil and that it is wrong to own them. I think Bradbury s overall
message throughout the story is that people should think on their own and not just go with the flow
similar to how everyone else does. In Fahrenheit 451, the citizens are filled with irrelevant
information just so they wouldn t have to think on their own, and possibly offend other people with
their thoughts and the government is intolerant, or not tolerant of views and/or beliefs of people.

Medicare Medicaid Services, 2012). The information included in the electronic health record is the
patient s demographics and clinical health information, medical history, list of health problems,
progress notes, medications, vital signs, laboratory and radiology reports, and physician orders. The
purpose of the electronic health record is to prevent medical errors and improve care delivery to

issue that was reported is that there are a lot of electronic alerts and people also could potentially

The Theoretical Basis Of Congestion Costs
2.2Theoretical basis of congestion costs (diseconomies)
One by product of agglomeration is congestion, which arise as economic agents compete for limited
land, limited output markets, and limited fixed public infrastructure such as highways and
communication facilities. Other negative consequences of agglomeration such as environmental
pollution, noise, and high crime rates may also occur.
In general, congestion externalities originate from the difference between private and social costs.
The literature on optimal city size suggests that households and firms choose to locate in a city by
evaluating the prevailing average social costs (AC) such as local taxes or commuting/transport
costs in the city, but ignoring the increased social costs their arrivals generate for the whole urban
population (Alonso 1971; Richardson 1972; Mills and De Ferranti 1971). Therefore, the average
social cost would usually be lower than the marginal social cost (MC) born by the city as a
whole (Alonso 1971; Richardson 1972; Mills and De Ferranti 1971). Firms and residents would
continue to move into the city as long as marginal benefits, as represented by marginal value of
outputs (MP) in the city, exceed the marginal social cost plus the opportunity cost of moving (MP
MC + opportunity cost for moving) (Alonso 1971; Richardson 1972). The result is that cities would
grow to a size that is more congested than the optimal size for maximizing urban production, that
size being the point where the

Japans Bio-Warfare Essay
While Germany experimented with biological weapons in World War I, the Japanese military
practiced biowarfare on a mass scale in the years leading up to and throughout World War II. China
became the first nation to experience the horrors of World War II. During the invasion of China,
Japanese forces used methods of warfare that led to mass death and suffering on new unimaginable
level.
In 1932, a few months after Japanese troops moved into Manchuria, disguised as a water
purification plant, Dr. Ishii and his colleagues followed them in. Instead of a water purification
plant, they built Zhoghma Fortress, a prison so named because of its location on the outskirts of

The New York Times, March 17, 1995, reported the testimony of a seventy two year old Japanese
farmer who was a medical assistant during World War II. He enthusiastically described how he

him, and so he didn t struggle. But when I picked up the scalpel that s when he began screaming. I

This How To project shows how a kitchen faucet is installed. This also can be used for replacing
a kitchen faucet. Whenever removing an old faucet remember to shut off the hot and cold water

Bilbo Leadership
Being a leader means to be the person who helps everyone with everything, keeps everyone out of
danger, and is the head of the group. Gandalf was away for most of the trip, and and someone
needed to take over and be a leader. The person who did that task, Bilbo, could not have been better
for the job. Bilbo proved to be a leader in many different ways throughout the entire expedition.
Bilbo proved to be a leader when a dwarf falls into water. The water is magical and harms the
dwarf. Insisting on staying, Bilbo says the dwarves should stay for a little longer. This proved that
Bilbo was a good leader when Gandalf was away because Bilbo made sure everyone was safe,
which is one main key parts to being a leader. Late at night, Bilbo was... Show more content on

there were over one hundred spiders then he had to kill. Since Bilbo is a good leader, he helped

Some people think that Bilbo Baggins did not prove to be a good leader while Gandalf was away. It
may be true that Bilbo did get the dwarves in some awful situations, but Bilbo always helped the
dwarves get out of the awful situations. Bilbo helped get the dwarves out of more trouble than he
got the dwarves into. Since Bilbo was more help than harm, I would say that Bilbo was still a good
leader while Gandalf was away.
Bilbo proved in many ways to be a very good leader when Gandalf was away. Even if Gandalf was
there for the whole expedition, I think Bilbo still would have been the best leader on the
expedition. If Bilbo did not come on the trip, the whole trip would have been very different and
the dwarves may have never found a great leader to lead them to

Analysis Of In-State Winery
FACTS: Michigan and New York allowed in state wineries to ship wine directly to consumers, but
limited out of state wineries from doing the same. Although the regulatory restrictions differed
slightly between the States, both States essentially set up costly barriers for out of state wineries to
reach consumers in their States, which were not required of in state wineries. The object and
design of the regulation in both States was to give a competitive advantage to in state wineries.
Eleanor Heald, a wine collector, and eleven other plaintiffs argued that Michigan s Liquor Control
Code violated the Dormant Commerce Clauseby making it a misdemeanor for an out of state

Yes. In a 5 4 opinion delivered by Justice Kennedy, the Court held that both states laws violated the
dormant commerce clause by favoring in state wineries at the expense of out of state wineries and
did so without the authorization of the 21st Amendment.
MAJORITY OPINION Justices Scalia, Kennedy, Souter, Ginsburg, and Breyer provide the opinion
of the court. The Court has consistently held that if a state law requires different treatment of in
state and out of state economic interests to benefit the other, the law violates the Commerce Clause.
This case is very clear and that both New York and Michigan s laws discriminate against interstate
commerce. The States arguments that the laws are protected by the 21st amendment is invalid
based on the history of the amendment and the Court s precedent. The purpose of the 21st
amendment is to control the use and distribution of liquor, not discriminate against out of state
alcohol manufacturers.
The differential treatment between in state and out of state wineries demonstrates explicit
discrimination against interstate commerce.
This discrimination substantially limits the direct sale of wine to consumers, an otherwise booming
and significant business.
Both Michigan and New York argued that their plans were geared toward

Are Cats Smarter Than Dogs
The Egyptians worshipped them, fish fear them, and they own the space around them like
kings; cats are small forces to be reckoned with. Do like cats or dogs? This question has haunted
every get to know me questionnaire ever since I ve been dubbed sufficiently literate enough to
know and write about these needless facts. Why every elementary school teacher saw this
question as the optimum way to ease the first day jitters is beyond me, but I digress. Recently I
ve decided that it really isn t a question of preferring one over the other, but rather it s you like
one and respect the other. Dogs are impossible to not like; they re large puffs of fur that contain
about as much intelligence as an infant while also retaining the endearing quality of I ll love you
forever if you pet me . Cats however, are cold, cunning, and judgmental creatures that refuse to
demean themselves with silly things such as utter devotion. When faced with these two polar
opposite creatures, it is clear which one demands respect. This is why cats are smarter than dogs; it
is their self awareness, ability to concoct schemes, and wholehearted refusal to submit to humans
that guarantees them a reputation of intelligence and prestige.... Show more content on

Unlike dogs, who tend to stick to your side all the time, cats basically go off and do their own
thing until they need something. If you re feeling lonely one day and decide you want to cuddle
your cat there is a 50/50 chance of getting bit or scratch because they weren t feeling especially
sensitive that day. However, if they do need or want something from you, cats have no problem
asking. A cat owner never needs to worry about their cat needing something because they will tell
you no matter what you may be doing at the time. Their demanding nature is instrumental to their
survival and wellbeing as a domesticated

Encoding Specificity is very important in understanding...
Encoding Specificity is very important in understanding how memory is retrieved and stored.
Memory is easier to be recalled when this information is encoded. The encoding specificity is best
understood by looking at the associations between contextual cues that were formed during the
encoding and the information that needed to be encoded in the memory. Most encoding specificity
is associated with cue recall of specific episodic memory(Wardell Read, 2013). Encoding specificity
has cues that help associate it with the target that is being presented. This helps because they can
retrieve information that was stored in their memory. By encoding specificity, the cue helps them
search their memory to remember what the target was.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this study, alcohol expectancies follow the cues that are part of the drinking context. This many
become involved with alcohol expectancy memories. The idea of cue induced activation of alcohol
expectancies is more likely to be involved with positive and not negative expectancies. It is thought
that encoding specificity suggests that activation of certain information in the memory is best
recalled when the cues is strongly connected with the information that is being encoded. They
focused their study on heavy drinkers because they have more contextual information about alcohol
then other people (Wardell Read, 2013). Looking at another study by Vogt and Bröder following
what Starns and Hicks (2005) did with their study. Starns and Hicks discussed mismatching versus
matching and which was better for retrieving information. They had a variety of different matching.
They had people distinguish the match between the presentation sources in items and the test phase.
Encoding specificity explains that matching is better than mismatching in one dimension and
should increase retrieving time (Vogt Bröder, 2007). This explains that pair of words are easier
to be remembered when they are different. If the pairs are similar, it is harder to recall what the
information was that was

Prenatal Alcohol Syndrome Research Paper
It is quite revealing that the consequences of prenatal alcohol exposure do not end with the
pregnancy. The long term effects are even more devastating. Many who are affected by the
syndrome go on to become abusers like their parents and remain poor income earners. If they do
establish families of their own, there is no stability because of their social and emotional
immaturity. To stop this vicious cycle from continuing, every healthcare worker should pledge to
intervene in any manner possible, and at every opportunity that presents itself. A failing system
should be everybody s business.
No child would be affected by FAS if pregnant women abstain from alcohol use during pregnancy.
Once affected, there is no cure. The syndrome grows with the

Memoirs of a Geisha
Historical Novel: Memoirs of a Geisha Memoirs of a Geisha is a compelling novel that is
centered on a young girl s journey of maturing and becoming a prominent and successful geisha.
The book was written by Author Golden and published in 1997. The story was based on the life
of geisha in Japan during the 1930s and 1940s. Geisha literally translates into art person. Geisha
are Japanese women that are trained to entertain men with singing, dancing, and conversation. The
book itself was very accurate in a historical perspective and quite frankly, a very good read. The
book opens in the first person voice of Sayuri, the main character, and stays the same throughout the
novel. Sayuri tells about her childhood growing up in Yoroido.... Show more content on

Respected members of Board of Directors:
In this report, I will discuss the performance of NASA Division for the past 9 months during the
fiscal year with special attention to the meaning and accuracy of the volume variance. Then I will
identify the issues of the best sales and production strategy for EROW Division, NASA Division
and the Rubber Group as a whole. At last, my recommendations of changes that should be made in
the management accounting performance system to improve the reporting and evaluation of the
Rubber Group performance will be raised.
NASA Rubber Division s performance:
As shown on the statement of net contribution September 1986, NASA Rubber Division s actual

This inner company transfer is outside control of NASA Rubber since if EROW cut back on
orders; its profit is hurt through the volume variance. EROW could change its purchase from
NASA depends on the sales prediction, inventory level, production capacity constraint and other
economic factors. Therefore, the uncertainty of the inner company transfer would weaken the
accuracy of the production estimates, and in turn affect the determination of the total fixed costs.
The determination of both two numbers above involves some uncertainties. Therefore, volume
variance is not an accurate measurement of the performance of NASA Rubber. To improve the
budgeting efficient, the management should consider transfer problem and other factors I
addressed above. Using relevant and proper information will help NASA Rubber in performance
forecasting.

EROW Division s butyl plant is located in Antwerp, Belgium. Built in 1964 as a regular butyl unit,

and simple and compact operation also facilitates their success. Moreover, the strategies they used
improve the efficiency of the operation.
One strategy EROW used is to take advantage of the inner company transfer. When the regular butyl

The Stereotypes Of Disney PrincessesBamboozling Young Girls
Disney Princesses Bamboozling Young Girls Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and
Ariel are all names almost every young female can recall. These are just a few of Disney s most
memorable characters, the Disney princesses which are idolized by young girls everywhere.
These princesses are portrayed to be strong willed, optimistic, and hardworking women who
overcome various hardships throughout their life. Talk about being the perfect role models for
little girls everywhere but are they really? Although they may seem to have admirable qualities,
by the end of these Disney movies, each princess receives their happy ending with their prince
charming at their side. This concludes that happiness is obtained only by finding your prince
charming . A princess happily ever after , that is repeated in these iconic Disney movies, distorts
what true happiness is and could be for girls around the world. This perceived reality promoted
by Disney then becomes engraved in our young girls minds through ways that are much like
propaganda in the political arena. Propaganda is a form of language commonly used to
manipulate intended audiences. In Disney s case, their intended audience consists of young
girls around the world. These Disney films display methods of propaganda, such as doublespeak
(Lutz) and the two extremes fallacy (Cross), which result in our young girls believing in a false
reality. There needs to be attention brought about this flawed perception of a sole happiness that
is continuously depicted by Disney and shared through ways of propaganda, as it is damaging
the minds of our young girls the future contributors of our society. Propaganda can be displayed
in many ways as it, ...is simply a means of persuasion... (Cross 247). You can persuade someone
by giving them few options, sugar coating the truth, lying, or even by misleading them.
Doublespeak is an art of language that is used to manipulate, therefore making it a notable
example of a way propaganda may be portrayed. William Lutz describes doublespeak in his
article, The World of Doublespeak , as the product of clear thinking and is carefully designed and
constructed to appear to communicate but in fact to mislead. This art of persuasion

The Issue Of Sexual Orientation
In the United States of America, 1.8 percent of men and 1.5 percent of women identify themselves
as homosexuals (Volokh 1). This means that in a group of one hundred men, around two of them
are homosexuals, and the same goes for women. The background regarding sexual orientation is
vast, and a lot of different definitions of the concept have been introduced throughout time.
Nevertheless, although homosexualityis fairly common in the United States, many people still
misunderstand it. The different types of sexual orientations and their difference from other sexual
related terms, such as genderrole and gender identity, are all confused by the general population.
Sadly, even today, there are people that believe in a right or wrong sexual orientation. Moreover, the
origins of sexual orientation are highly discussed and debated by the scientific community, with
theories including biological and environmental explanations. The importance of such origins
resides in the fact that this nature nurture debate is capable of changing people s perspectives
towards homosexuality, and even though the media has done a great job by transforming any sex
related topic from a taboo to an acceptable conversation point, society still needs to grasp a lot about
sexual orientation. Particularly, the fact that sexual orientation is a complex, largely misunderstood
human characteristic resulting from a combination of biological and environmental factors that
play an essential role in society s

  • 2. Contemporary Sociological Theory Reviewed Essay 1. Our understanding of contemporary capitalist culture and globalization has been greatly influenced by neo Marxism. There have been many significant events all over the world such as the Great Depression, The Second World War which have contributed to our understanding of contemporary capitalist culture. There has been a false consciousness associated with this time and date since capitalism continues to deliver the goods (Adams Sydie, 2002: 90). The beginning of the end of capitalist conflict and the beginning of the beginning of socialism came with the U.S. economic and military dominance after 1945 and also, on the other side of the coin, the Stalinist model of socialist development failed to live up to it s own Marxist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They noted that the class structures of these societies were products of neo imperialism. The domination is achieved through investment, the control of technological expertise, money through the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The term Monopoly Capitalism covers all of those aspects. Wallerstein proposed an analytic framework. He felt he was conducting world system analysis and not writing world system theory. He believed there were three factors which were essential when establishing a world economy. First, he saw an expansion of the geographical size of the world in question. Second, the development of variegated methods of labor control for different products and different zones of the world economy, and Third, the creation of relatively strong state machineries in what would become the core states of this capitalist world economy (121). Wallerstein identifies the core, periphery and the semi periphery. The core is the economic interest which control productive activities. The periphery is the opposite of the core. The core controls all of the periphery s resources. The semi periphery is the mid point between the core and the periphery. It serves as a gray zone with independent capital yet is dependent on the core for much of it s infrastructure. Wallerstein identifies three means for moving from periphery to a semi periphery. First he talks about seizing the chance. This is when an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Art Of Being Hum Role Of Myth In the textbook: The Art Of Being Human Chapter 3 is about the role of myth in the humanities. Before art was made there was something called mythology. In every religion, there is a hero and that hero was prophesied to save the world or save the people that believed in that religion or followed the rules by granting them eternal life or afterlife in a promised land. The humanities could be found in mythology. This essay will talk about how mythology, in the role of humanities, should be considered nonfiction or real. The birth of the hero may come in an extraordinary circumstance such as the womb of a virgin or a mortal woman impregnated by a god. That hero is always a man. In Greek culture, that hero is Hercules, son of Zeus and a mortal woman. In Christian Culture the hero is Jesus, son of God and the Virgin Mary. His birth was announced by an angel and took place in an inn. Both births are similar because they were both born with fathers that are gods and mothers that are mortals. Muhammad from Islamic religion was also born from a virgin mother and announced by an angel. His mother Aminah and was visited by Mary, Eve, and Asiya during the birth and Muhammed became a prophet just like Jesus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They all have a similarity; the hero starts showing signs of superhuman powers. Right after Hercules was born Zeus s wife sent two snakes to kill him but failed cause Hercules was unusually strong and strangled the snakes before they could bite him. Theseus proved at age 16 that he was strong enough to push a giant boulder off of something his father buried in the earth long ago. He along with Zeus were both physically strong since birth. • 4. A Change is Needed in Our Right to Bear Arms What if an individual could acquire a gun like you buy a pair of shoes whatever size or color you want? Could you imagine what it would be like? The mere thought of every person in the city walking around with guns is frightening. That will be the United States if Congress does not put stricter policies in place to control the situation. When looking at the news, or reading the paper or even surfing the web you will see overwhelming statistics. According to the USA GunViolence Statistics, More than 30,000 people are killed by firearms each year in this country and More than 30 people are shot and murdered each day, 1/2 of them are between the ages of 18 and 35 and 1/3 of them are under the age of 20. Gun violence has caused terror and fear across the country due to the attacks on innocent people like Sandy Hook Elementary, where a 20 year old killed 20 children and 6 adults, a Shooting Frenzy at Fort Hood in 2009, or the movie goer who was shot and killed for texting in the movie theater, and Jordan Davis who was shot while in his car at a gas station in Jacksonville Florida, and we will never forget the massacres at Columbine and Virginia Tech. How many more people will have to die or become injured in these senseless acts of violence before changes are made to this problematic situation? Innocent individuals are being gun down for no apparent reasons. Enough is enough; I m not saying that we should completely do away with the right to Bear arms ; but the policies ... • 5. Online Shopping Conduct And Internet Shopping Essay INTRODUCTION Online shopping is almost to synonymous to customary shopping through brick and mortar stores. As indicated by UCLA Center for Communication Policy, online shopping has been rising as a standout among the most famous web exercises, marginally behind e mailing and internet surfing and in addition surpasses online entertainment search and online news. Online shopping conduct (additionally called web purchasing conduct and Internet shopping/purchasing conduct) implies to the procedure of buying merchandise/goods or services by means of the Internet. In a standard online shopping procedure, potential customer s see/feel/sense a necessity for some good or service and they approach to online shopping to search about the product/service and make a purchase decision to gratify the need. In some cases, instead of looking for intentionally, once in a while potential customers are pulled in by information about merchandise or services joined with the felt need. They then evaluate decisions and pick the specific alternative that best fits their criteria for meeting the obliged need. Finally, the purchase is made and post purchase services are given. In this term paper I explore the various attitudes, behaviors and traits exhibited by consumers during this online purchase decision, factors which facilitate and influence their decision making. • 6. Use Of Narrative In The Princess Bride Taylor Lane Colyer Dr. Cossar Final Paper April 11, 2017 Genre and Narrative in The Princess Bride Genre and narrative appear in all forms of film; they cannot exist without each other. Films have some form of narrative that makes it unique for a specific genre. This is due to the way the story is told. Depending on how the story is told the audience will generate a response to the film they are watching. Narrative and genre are used to explain the story and plot of a film. Let s look at The Princess Bride for example; this is a genre film that uses narrative to tell a story. Through narrative the film is able to get a response out of the audience and the audience knows how to respond to this particular film because of past genre and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also action/adventure elements with the fire swamp and the pit of despair. These different genres are what draw in such a diverse crowd. Genre theorist Rick Altman states how genre classifications are down to the pre reading and knowledge that audiences have of texts, before they watch a film they will know the story, characters, conventions, and mis en scene of the genre (Altman: 1989). Audience members know they are in for a combination of a lot of genres when they watch this film. The first ever film poster for the said Heroes, Giants, Villains, Wizards, True love. Not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run of the mill, ho hum fairytale. The film brings in a very diverse crowd, because it contains so many genres. Not everybody likes story s about true love and not everybody likes story s about wizards and giants, so why not put them all together. I know several older men who love this film and I also know several young women my age who love this film just as much. The great thing about this film in particular is that the audience might think they have a pre determined answer as to what will happen in the end, but due to the multitude of genres it causes the audience to question themselves and form hypotheses. Film theorist Erlend Lavik tells us that, practically all films contain gaps that the audience must fill in. Seeking order and coherence, we instinctively make hypotheses about what is going to happen (and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Neanderthals And The Middle Paleolithic Neanderthals Wyatt Rahn Anthropology 1001 Human Origins University of Northern Iowa Neanderthals, also known as Homo neanderthalensis, existed mainly in the time period known as the Middle Paleolithic in the regions of Europe and southwestern to central Asia. The Middle Paleolithic took place from about 200,000 years ago until around 45,000 years ago. However, the Neanderthals still existed for about 15,000 years after that. After the Middle Paleolithic, the Neanderthals existed alongside anatomically modern humans and most likely interbred with them. Although the species of Homo neanderthalensis became extinct around 25,000 years ago, their DNA is still present in humans today. Neanderthals are without a doubt the closest extinct human relatives to modern humans. The first Neanderthal fossil was not found until the year 1829. This discovery in Belgium would prove to be one of the most important archaeological findings in history. After several more of these findings occurred, we have been able to learn countless facts about Neanderthals. Scientists believe they had very short, stocky, and powerful bodies, along with very strong teeth and jaw bones and a surprisingly large brain. Neanderthals had the ability to walk bipedally as we do today, and it is believed that they matured much faster than modern humans. Dental fossil evidence shows that an eight year old Neanderthal possessed the same dental structure as that of a ten to twelve year old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Paper on Doubt A Bond as Powerful as Certainty A person s doubts can cloud their judgment on certain tasks at hand. On the other hand, a person s certainty can blind someone from the truth. The argument ofDoubt versus Certainty is relevant today in the sense that it is the main argument for and against religion. The theory of doubt can also be used in literary works for a number of reasons. In John Patrick Shanleys movie/play Doubt, the theme of certainty versus doubt is shown throughout the story to signify the importance of characterization and to symbolize the importance that a person must be cautious of the people around them. In the movie Doubt, the idea of certainty versus doubt is a central theme to the story. Doubt and certainty are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sister Aloysius does not have any evidence yet she is certain that Father Flynn is guilty. Shanley is illustrating that one does not need evidence to be confident about a given claim. In this way, Shanley illustrates through the concept of doubt that a person can be right about a given suspicion without any proof. The significance behind certainty versus doubt in Doubt has to do with the characterization of both Sister James and Sister Aloysius. The characters stance on certainty versus doubt divides the characters personalities. Sister Aloysius has a confident and strong willed character throughout the story while Sister James is shown to have a very insecure personality and is usually shown to be unclear about situations. This characterization is shown when Sister James and Sister Aloysius talk about William London s bloody nose. Sister Aloysius is convinced that William London s bloody nose was self induced while Sister James believes that William is innocent. Sister Aloysius suspicion about William is proven to be right when William is heading home, He has a bloody handkerchief to his nose. He s in a good mood. He takes the handkerchief away. The nose has stopped bleeding. He smiles. He lights a cigarette. (Shanley Script, pg 18) This foreshadows the reactions taken by both Sister James and Sister Aloysius when it comes to determining Father Flynn s credibility. Shanley does this to give the reader an idea of how Sisters James ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After Muhammad s death, Arabia was succeeded by 4 rightly guided people, also known as the 4 caliphs. Over the course of 100 years, the 4 caliphs expanded the empire, and spread Islam from Spain to India. The United States Role in Causing the Nicaraguan Revolution The Nicaraguan revolution of 1979 is an event that many American citizens may not know about. What is likely less understood is the United States role in the cause of this revolution. The US actually played a very important role in causing the Nicaraguan revolution. The US did three major things that strongly influenced the revolutionaries to revolt against the government. The US helped create the National Guard of Nicaragua, a group that abused citizens and blatantly disregarded for human rights. The US marine occupation began in 1912 and continued to 1925, ended, and then occurred again from 1926 till 1933. During this time period, there were a variety of reasons for the US occupation of Nicaragua. The most prominent reason seemed to be the geography of Nicaragua. Holding Nicaragua gave the United States an area that would allow, first of all, US influence over more of Central America, as Nicaragua is right in the middle of Central America, and, second of all, it was seen as an area suitable for a transoceanic waterway . Since Nicaragua borders both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, a canal connecting the two would be fairly feasible. The existence of this canal could bring great profits to US investors and US companies. This US occupation eventually led to the creation of the Nicaraguan National Guard. The Nicaraguan National Guard was created in the 1920s and trained by US Marines. The US Marines were in Nicaragua in order to create order and civility. One of them is to help improve and practice report writings/responses, while another reason is to express what we believe our strengths and weaknesses will be in this chosen career path. This assignment is beneficial because it will prepare us for future writing assignments in the program, and betterunderstand how we will be graded. It will also help us reflect on what skills we think we can bring to the table, along with weaknesses we can improve on. It will be a useful assignment to reflect on my own personal strengths, and will be a beneficial tool to my success in this program. This career choice (specifically EMS dispatching) is something I m hoping I could be exceptional at because of my experience working as an EMT. I attended PMA in 2014 where I learned a variety of useful skills from great instructors that could easily crossover to dispatching. I then mastered these skills out on the field, working hand in hand with Emergency Services! I like to think with this experience I can bring quick decision making skills to the table; as well as limited medical knowledge for certain situations when necessary. I have experience in triaging, and can handle stressful situations exceptionally well while staying emotionally detached. • 19. Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel Analytical Essay on Fun Home By: Alison Bechdel Even though a lot of thing events that happened to Bechdel was sad, dark, or scary she manages to use a very witty tone throughout the story reflecting on her personality. She believes dark events are not central to one s life. She uses this tone as oppose to an angry tone because she never realized her family was any different until she was compared it to others. This strongly classifies Bechdel in the optimistic category of personalities. The tone of this novel can strike many people as hard to determine or understand. One of the best things about this novel is the consistency that Bechdel creates from her earliest childhood memories all the way until the ending of the book. Tone is known to illustrate the underlying feelings of the author. What is also very striking is Bechdel s lack of emotion when any surprising event happens to her. What most tend to remember is when Mr. Bechdel s death is announced to Bechdel and how she responds to the news. Speaking normally, or what most would refer to as normal is to have some kind of emotional breakthrough when finding out their loved one has passed in a tragic accident. Is he dead? (Bechdel 81). In these three words Bechdel demonstrates her inability to fit into the mere normal category of reactions and blows the audience away. Bechdel explains how she cried for about two minutes to her girlfriend at the time and that was the most of mourning she did at all. Using the witty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Self Preservation Is Not The Bee s Knees Essay Self Preservation is Not the Bee s Knees: A Refutation to Part III of Spinoza s Ethics Benedict de Spinoza takes an unique stance in his Ethics, claiming all things exist only to prolong their own existence and preserve their essence. Yet there are plenty of examples in nature alone that seem to counter his claims where creatures strive for an action that will lead to their deaths, as seen in the case of various species of spiders and bees. However, Spinoza s claim that things strive to preserve their essence fails to fulfill his goal in explaining how and why nature works the way it does, as seen in the case with self sacrificial spiders as well as the behavioral and biological aspects of male bees (drones). Thus, I argue that although Spinoza tries to move away from a teleological account of the world to a more mechanistic one by introducing his idea of self preservation, his idea is lacking and is unable to actually explain anything in depth, and we therefore must look to Aristotle s account of final causes to actually understand the behavior of aforementioned creatures. In order to develop my argument I will begin by discussing Spinoza s stance on the self preservation of essence and why his account fails to actually provide an in depth explanation about how nature works, and then I will look at the behavior of male redback spiders as well as the self destructive biology of male bees which will help demonstrate why Aristotle s teleological account of nature is still ... Watson argued that psychology should abandon its earlier focus on mind and mental processes and focus exclusively on overt behavior. He contended that psychology could not study mental processes in a scientific manner because they are private and not accessible to outside observation. In completely rejecting mental processes as a suitable subject for scientific study, Watson took an extreme position that is no longer dominant among modern behaviorists. This social approval reinforced my clowning around behavior. If such behavior would have been reinforced with some regularity, it would have gradually become an integral element of my personality. Similarly, whether or not I developed traits such as independence, assertiveness, or selfishness depended on whether I got reinforced for such behavior by parents or by other influential persons. Negative reinforcement occurs when a response is strengthened (increased in frequency) because it is followed by the removal of a (presumably) unpleasant stimulus (Skinner, p.67). Do not let the word negative here confuse you. Negative reinforcement is reinforcement. Like positive reinforcement, it strengthens a response. However, this strengthening occurs because the response gets rid of an aversive stimulus. Consider a few examples: I rush home in winter to get out of the cold. I clean my house to get rid of a mess. • 32. How Important Did Edwin Chadwick Improve Public Health In... How important was the role played by Edwin Chadwick in improving public health services in towns in the nineteenth century? (16 marks) Edwin Chadwick s hard work produced a mass of evidence supporting public health reforms. In 1842 his report that was published ( Report on the Sanitary Conditions of the Labouring Population ) influenced the government and persuaded people that reform was needed. His report s recommendations were the basis for the 1848 Public Health Act. However, Chadwick did have a few limitations along the way. His report in 1842 did not lead to immediate reform. The Public Health Act came 6 years later in 1848 and this act did not force councils to reform public health. His personality antagonised people and did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The core of the project was completed by 1865 but because it was such a big project, it took another 10 years to complete. He made sure the system had a much higher capacity than was needed in the 1860s. Other than this, there were other factors that helped improve public health such as the role of the government. In 1867, working men in towns were given the right to vote and this meant the number of voters doubled which increased again in 1884 and this mean politics changed drastically. In the 1870s/1880s many new laws were passed which were designed to improve the lives of ordinary people such as the Public Health Act in 1875. Another factor which helped improve public health was chance. The timing of the 1848 Public Health Act was the result of the latest epidemic of cholera. As cholera spread across Europe in 1847 fear grew in Britain of many thousands of deaths to come. Therefore the government finally followed Chadwick s recommendations and passed the Public Health Act in the hope that this would reduce the impact of cholera. However, the 1848 Act was not compulsory. Only 103 towns set up local Boards of Health. Many more did not, and the National Board of Health, set up to oversee reforms, was abolished after only six years in 1854. Essay on Benefits of a Tax on High Fat Foods Descartes In this essay, I will explain Descartes central method of doubt to investigate the truth of things, in which he wanted to be critical and generated four rules that he would use as guidance. With his method, he suspends judgment and prejudices to obtain better results. Descartes argues that despite syllogisms has truth in logic, it still has something defective, which is predominantly the multiplicity of rules. These rules might bring immorality and confusion, thus prevent him for arriving at the knowledge of things because it might bring more doubt than truth. At the beginning of the creation of his method, Descartes looks for a method of reason that would be free of the defects of logic, however, he still sought his method ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following this model, he develops his method based on his reason alone without the interference from others or his prejudices that could affect his reasoning. He claims that the interference of more than one person, in the creation of something causes a less perfect and less organized thing compare to things done by only one person. For instance, he exemplifies this with his education; he considers his education has a deficiency because all the sciences taught to him were from different men from different eras. Moreover, in order for Descartes method to discover a great way for seeking the truth of things, he based his method on the geometrical style, which entails clarity and certainty of things. In geometry, Descartes finds the notion of clear and distinct ideas, which are considered clear and distinct because they are simple and unquestionable truths, and also they could be easy understood. In addition to it, he finds this method to be promising because he comprehends geometrical figures to be absolutely evident, not probabilistic. The fact that Descartes was looking for a method that will help him to find the truth of things encourages him to look for a method with the properties of logic, mathematics and geometry, but obviously excluding their defects. He just set out four rules rather than a large number of rules: 1) to never accept anything as true unless it is so clear and distinctly, meaning there is no minimum doubt; 2) to reduce every single complex ... By implementing a floating bridge, in a non linear terrain in the city of Champong Chnnang it allows for effective, and efficient commute between two villages. This idea allows for the saving of time and money, by not implementing a less efficient method of transportation and trade between the two villages. THIS ISN T GOOD ENOUGH, LET EDWARD ADD SHIT TO THIS TOO. Sustainable Design: The bridge has a very well designed sustainability concept, relying on upcycled materials to complete the bridge. These upcycled materials consist of the wood, the fishing net, the oil barrels and the plastic shielding for the barrels. These materials can be used for functional roles in the design, such as platforms, floatation, safety lines across hand rails, and so on. The bridge s sustainability concept can be further supported by the ease of replacing materials, and not throwing them in the bin. The materials such as wood, plastic and pieces of metallic bolts and nuts can be recycled and reused for other purposed such as furniture, storage or completely recycled back into a molten form for the metallic objects. • 39. The Theoretical Basis Of Congestion Costs 2.2Theoretical basis of congestion costs (diseconomies) One by product of agglomeration is congestion, which arise as economic agents compete for limited land, limited output markets, and limited fixed public infrastructure such as highways and communication facilities. Other negative consequences of agglomeration such as environmental pollution, noise, and high crime rates may also occur. In general, congestion externalities originate from the difference between private and social costs. The literature on optimal city size suggests that households and firms choose to locate in a city by evaluating the prevailing average social costs (AC) such as local taxes or commuting/transport costs in the city, but ignoring the increased social costs their arrivals generate for the whole urban population (Alonso 1971; Richardson 1972; Mills and De Ferranti 1971). Therefore, the average social cost would usually be lower than the marginal social cost (MC) born by the city as a whole (Alonso 1971; Richardson 1972; Mills and De Ferranti 1971). Firms and residents would continue to move into the city as long as marginal benefits, as represented by marginal value of outputs (MP) in the city, exceed the marginal social cost plus the opportunity cost of moving (MP MC + opportunity cost for moving) (Alonso 1971; Richardson 1972). The result is that cities would grow to a size that is more congested than the optimal size for maximizing urban production, that size being the point where the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Memory is easier to be recalled when this information is encoded. The encoding specificity is best understood by looking at the associations between contextual cues that were formed during the encoding and the information that needed to be encoded in the memory. Most encoding specificity is associated with cue recall of specific episodic memory(Wardell Read, 2013). Encoding specificity has cues that help associate it with the target that is being presented.
