The Importance Of Crime And Punishment
The system is wrong and different from us. There are many ways to reason through the correct course
of action involving human punishment for crime. Crime is considered negative in society. During
biblical times crime is not only affected society, but it was believed to have also been directed towards
God himself. The Bible is the oldest book to reference with many directives to living life peacefully
and without revenge (StudyMode crime and punishment). The problems arise when the time comes to
punish a criminal. There are disagreements over the severity of a crime, the mentality of the criminal,
and the correct penalty that should result from that crime among other things. Immanuel Kant has a
few fundamental ideas about how society should think and behave. Among his ideas is the way to deal
with crime and approach punishment. Kant believed in the idea of Retributivism. He felt that one
should pay for the crime that they committed in a way equivalent to the crime, whereas like the nation
of Seecebeesia utilitarian may also take the position that criminals should be rehabilitated rather than
necessarily punished for the crime, since many criminals have a questionable state of mind (2008,
Philosophical Approach to Crime and Punishment). Also in the bible Matthew 5:38 states, You have
heard that it has been said, eye for eye and tooth for tooth . It explains that the punishment should fit
the crime. If criminals know that there is going to be a punishment, and what that

Six Convicts
The right to a free trial
The right to a fair trial. It protects society from injustice and separates the guilty from the innocent.
Without this human right, law and order in society would not be as fair as it is today, however, in some
cases this right was not given. Six convicts from Adelaide, South Australia were found guilty and
sentenced to jail due to the evidence given by Doctor Colin Manock, a Forensic Pathologist. This
essay will discuss in detail the six convicts cases and if they were given the right to a fair trial. Also
whether or not they should have been convicted based from the forensic and scientific evidence given
during their trial by Doctor Colin Manock (FairTrials.org, 2015).
Henry Keogh was jailed for twenty years until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having the right to a far trial can only be made after... In my opinion all of these men were not given
this right and although they may not be innocent they should still be given it. Dr Colin Manock has
presented questionable forensic evidence for all six of these cases which has lead to wrongful
convictions.
The men have had to live and put up with the brutal consequences for a crime they possibly did not
commit. Meaning, that the true murderer is roaming freely on the streets. Compensation may help but
never completely heal the damage done. This is showing that there is a huge flaw in our appeals
process in South Australia. So many more appeals are becoming successful, therefore, convicts are
having their jail time cut shorter or their conviction(s) removed. By having the right to a free trail this
can all be avoided (Adelaidenow.com.au, 2015).
In my opinion the courts should have not just relied on Dr Manock s forensic evidence, not just for
these cases but for all including those not of Dr Manock s. Several forensic scientists should have
investigated each case which means more people, more ideas and opinions that can be put together for
a much more accurate result. This will avoid future wrongful convictions and in the long term save the
Government money by not having to pay compensation to the convicts and even better, it will make
the appeals process much better in South Australia (Adelaidenow.com.au,

Tort Law Cases Essay
Presented are four separate cases that have been argued and settled in a court of law. Each of these
cases represent a different kind of tort, a tort is a civil wrong or wrongful act, which can be either
intentional or accidental, from which injury occurs to another (Hill Hill n.d.). The torts are as listed,
intentional, criminal, negligence, and liability as presented in the four researched cases.
State Rubbish Collectors Ass n v. Siliznoff When a person violates another person s legal rights
deliberately it is considered an intentional tort (Mayer et al. n.d.). Intentional torts are when someone
is assaulting someone, trespassing on a person private property, false imprisonment of an individual or

The association was held liable for the damages that stemmed from the emotional distress of the
defendant. The plaintiff had caused the defendant to suffer such extreme fright that it compelled him
to either give up the Acme account he had been working in the service area and give to the State
Rubbish Collectors Association back payment or the defendant had to become a member with the
association and pay dues.
The courts ruled that the plaintiff had not right to use such coercive methods when competing for
business and the liability was clear in this circumstance. The defendant was awarded $1250.00 by the
plaintiff for compensatory damages and $4000.00 was awarded by the association for exemplary
damages. Plaintiff attempted to appeal stating the awarded amount was excessive; the courts ruled that
the amount awarded was not excessive and denied the appeal from the plaintiff. No dissenting opinion
was made.
People v. Watson Someone commits a wrongful act and someone is the victim is considered a crime.
The charge is against the defendant and if found to be responsible for the crime the defendant serves a
sentence and pays a fine to the government and possible restitution is paid to the victim of the crime.

Symbolism Of The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter:
Symbolism of the Scarlet A Symbolism has many different meanings, and the Scarlet A in The Scarlet
Letter has many different meanings as well. Hester Prynne is the main character who is forced to wear
the scarlet letter as remembrance for the crime and the sin that she has committed. This letter
completely ruined her reputation in her community. How could a small piece of fabric do so much
harm? This letter was a representation of something much greater than the letter A . This letter was
originally made to stand for adulteress, as physical reminder of her sins. The vibrant scarlet red is
meant to shame Hester, to make her feel sorry for her mistakes. Most importantly it was a symbol for
change and an emblem of identity. In short, the scarlet letter meant much more than a letter of shame,
it was simply a piece of fabric with meaning that could easily change.
The first representation of the A was adulteress. When Hester Prynne slept with Reverend
Dimmesdale, as a married woman, she became pregnant. The community thought her a widow, and
knew that she could not be pregnant, unless she had committed adultery. The community decided on a
punishment for her crimes, Hester was forced to wear the scarlet A at all times as a reminder of the sin
she had committed before God. In the puritan era sin was utterly unacceptable, and Hester had
committed adultery, a sin punishable by death itself. This brings us to the next symbolic evidence of
the letter.

Balance Sheet and Cookie Creations
Continuing Cookie Chronicle
CCC1 Natalie Koebel spent much of her childhood learning the art of cookie making from her
grandmother. They passed many happy hours mastering every type of cookie imaginable and later
creating new recipes that were both healthy and delicious. Now at the start of her second year in
college, Natalie is investigating various possibilities for starting her own business as part of the
requirements of the entrepreneurship program in which she is enrolled.
A long time friend insists that Natalie has to somehow include cookies in her business plan. After a
series of brainstorming sessions, Natalie settles on the idea of operating a cookie making school. She

Natalie, too, would like to know if the company has been profitable or not during November. Natalie
realizes that in order to determine Cookie Creations income, she must first make adjustments. Natalie
puts together the following additional information. 1. A count reveals that $35 of baking supplies were
used during November. 2. Natalie estimates that all of her baking equipment will have a useful life of
5 years or 60 months and no salvage value. (Assume Natalie decides to record a full month s worth of
depreciation, regardless of when the equipment was obtained by the business.) 3. Natalie s
grandmother has decided to charge interest of 6% on the note payable extended on November 16. The
loan plus interest is to be repaid in 24 months. (Assume that half a month of interest accrued during
November.) 4. On November 30, a friend of Natalie s asks her to teach a class at the neighborhood
school. Natalie agrees and teaches a group of 35 first grade students how to make Santa Claus cookies.
The next day, Natalie prepares an invoice for $300 and leaves it with the school principal. The
principal says that he will pass the invoice along to the head office, and it will be paid sometime in
December. 5. Natalie receives a utilities bill for $45. The bill is for utilities consumed by Natalie s

The Inventions of Leonardo Da Vinci Everyone knows Leonardo Da Vinci for his Last Supper
Painting and the Mona Lisa. Not only was Da Vinci a painter he was also an inventor. He had a
fascination for planes and other unique things. He made the designs for things like guns and planes
that we use for our military and did not even know he was the first with the ideas of these inventions .
He made designs for four flying machines such as the anemometer and the parachute. He made
designs for four war machines such has the crossbow and armed car. He made designs for five
innovations such the clock and the colossus. And last but not least, he designed two water machines
such as the scuba gear.
As I stated in the previous paragraph Leonardo Da Vinci had a thing for planes so he decided to a
make a design for the anemometer. If you did not know what this device does, it helps measure the
speed of wind. Though Da Vinci did not invent the anemometer, he did however make many variation
from the original one invented by Leon Batista back in 1450. Da Vinci s design for the anemometer
had an arched frame with a rectangular piece of wood hanging from the piece of wood.
So everyone know that when jump out of a plane, you need a parachute. Most people think that
Sebastian Lenormand designed the parachute well guess what they are wrong. Leonardo Da Vinci
actually created the parachute in way before Lenormand came along. Da

Long Term Space Travel And Its Effects On The Human Body
Long term Space Travel and its Effects on the Human Body
Synopsis:
Humans are planning more space missions to Mars and deeper into the solar system. These manned
missions require longer periods of time in space than any human has ever spent, as well as traveling
farther from Earth s protection than ever before. There has been very little research conducted
regarding the effects of prolonged space travel on the human body. This paper examines how space
travel will likely alter bodily functions. The evolution of life on Earth means that humans are adapted
and specialized to live and function in Earth s environment. The environment of open space presents
hazards such as: solar radiation, microgravity, and extreme isolation. Prolonged exposure to these
hazards could result in cardiovascular issues, cancers, cellular disruption, decreased bone density,
osteoporosis, psychological issues, and more. It is important for scientists to research these hazards
and their effects on the human body further so as to find solutions and ways to combat the negative
outcomes.
Exploration is a key component of human nature. Humans have always had the will to venture out into
the unknown and explore new world. The curious and adventurous nature of mankind colonized the
Earth and landed men on the moon. But what is the next step? How much farther can man go?
Humans are looking past the moon, to the stars and beyond now. In the past decade, multiple

Creating A Solid Ecommerce Marketing Strategy Essay
Niche stores offer value in a crowded marketplace.
While most companies stick to catering to the masses, specialized businesses are cornering the market
by selling unique products and services to targeted consumers.
For example, eCommerce store Beardbrand only sells beard care products, ranging from natural beard
oil to mustache wax.
To compete with mass retailers, niche stores must build up their presence within their targeted
communities. That s why creating a solid eCommerce marketing strategy is important.
Here are five ways a niche store can jumpstart its eCommerce marketing strategy:
1. Answer questions on industry specific websites.
Create a niche community by answering questions from your audience.
Research 5 10 industry specific forums and start giving away free knowledge. If it fits your market, try
offering solutions on Quora and Yahoo! Answers.
People want helpful answers. So, avoid vague responses; they won t spark conversations or entice
people to learn more about your company.
Here s an example on from the ClosingCall.io, a community forum for salespeople. Growbots Content
Marketing Manager Caroline Krolicka gives a detailed response to a commenter.
When you offer actionable suggestions, customers will come to you as a trusted source of information.
Your team also can create a running list of FAQs for your customers. Just make sure it s updated often
and easily accessible.
Answering questions in public forces you to (really) think, writes

Jessica had never visited Cloud City, so she was very excited to go to it and see if the stories were as
wonderful as she d heard. She couldn t wait to feel what it was like to walk on soft clouds, to see
colorful buildings made out of ice crystals and fluffy clouds that changed colors with the sun s rays, or

Tiny sparks fluttered around them, making Jessica and Isalia giggle with joy.
The tiny rain drops from the earlier storm and the glass crystals reflected the light, creating a

As the last rays of the sun faded, music started to play and the creatures started to dance. The clouds

Essay On Dystopia
This movie fits very nicely into the category of dystopian society demographic, it s quite literally a
dystopia that appears to be a utopia. The whole society is controlled by the philosophical idea that if
you were not created inside of a lab then you are less than human. Those who were created through a
natural birth are not able to get good jobs, mostly stuck working jobs like janitors or waiters, they are
not trusted enough to get any good jobs, like doctors and scientist because people simply do not

as well as everything is kept sanitizes and organized with no room for error, this motto is often said,
cleaenslesness is next to godliness. Individuality is seen as bad, most citizens keep to a simple
appearance, clean crisp suit, and most women kept their hair tied back in a tight bun, throughout the
movie you see almost no people who appear to be expressing themselves through clothing or at their
workplace, desks appear to be kept clean of any personal items, like a photo of a lover or family

Cell Phone Radiation On Human Brain
The objective of this research is to study the effect of cell phone radiation on human brain. It is known
that the cell phone produces electromagnetic radiation which could be harmful to the human brain.
When the phone is placed 5 cm away from the head there is less brain activity compared to when the
cell phone is placed next to the ear or head on either side. Special attention is focused on Temporal
and Frontal lobes as these are very close to the ear, which is call the electromagnetic radiation. The
Electromagnetic radiation is measured in terms of specific absorption rate (SAR). SAR is measured
for two common holding positions of mobile phone: Cheek and Tilt. In tilt position, the mobile phone
tilted for 15° and 30° from a person s head. The SAR measured in the Cheek position has much lower
values than of tilt position.
The brain is one of the most important organs of the body that coordinates all the activities. It is
divided into three major parts namely: Cerebrum, Cerebellum, brain stem and diencephalon.
Cerebrum is the largest part of the brain. It covers the diencephalon and is divided into right and left
hemisphere longitudinally. Each hemisphere is subdivided into brain lobes, named as: Frontal lobe,
Parietal lobe, Temporal lobe and Occipital lobe.
The effect of SAR majority depends on the antenna position on the mobile phone. A mobile phone
with mounted antenna on top and hold in tilt position results in more absorption of EM radiation by
the head. This happens as the antenna is closer proximity to the head. Moreover, SAR values change
with variation of holding position of mobile phone. Cheek and tilt are two prevalent ways of holding a
mobile phone. The electromagnetic fields produced by mobile phones are classified by the
International Agency for Research on Cancer as possibly hazardous to humans [1]. The radio
frequency used for communication can penetrate through semi solid substances, such as living tissue
with a distance proportional to its power density. Research has demonstrated that the short term effect
of EM waves on the human brain [2]. However, the evidence supporting the research is very little for
any kind of short or long term effect.

The Passionate Shepherd Essay
The Passionate Shepherd and The Nymph s Reply are two very intriguing poems with two different
viewpoints on Love, Nature, Time, and the Materialistic world. In this comparative essay you will
understand how two people love each other unconditionally, but have divergent views on how to love
one another. The Shepherd is in love with the nymph and he believes that if he gives her everything
that she ambitiously desires then she ll come and dwell with him. To me the Shepherd s love is more
based around items and materials in general, his love was more materialistic and idealistic that
actually putting love into it. Yes, he meant well and all but you have to think no woman is going to
stay around long if the only thing that the man does is get her stuff all the time. Now, the Nymph she
loves the Shepherd and wants to go live with him, but she wants him to actually think that instead of
flowers and skirts she wants love and affection. She wants someone that s going to love her and not
hurt her. She wants to feel like what she s getting herself into is going to last, instead of giving her
another heartbreak. But the love is there for both of them, they are both just trying to find some way
for the other one to understand.
The nature (tone) of both poems is having, dissimilar viewpoints also. The Shepherd s tone was more
warm and happy thoughts. He was excited and he focused on his future with the Nymph, he had a
melodious tone, almost like a lullaby. The Nymph s nature was death related, she was more worried
about what if things didn t work out where was that going to leave her and she was more focused on
the past, like she felt that the Shepherd was going to be like another man that she has dealt with. She
viewed nature in a cold winter like view, she feels like everything will inevitably leave. Their natures
were like seasons; the Shepherds nature was like summer and spring where everything is happy and
alive, and the nymph s nature was like winter where everything is cold and dead.
Their view of time pretty much ties in with the way that they had viewed nature, the Shepherd
believed that their love will grow overtime, he thinks that love is a forever thing. He is in a trance of a
world where everything is all

Trapped by Society in John Updike s A P Essay example
Trapped by Society in John Updike s A P
People often take their place in society for granted. They accept that position into which they are born,
grow up in it, and pass that position on to their children. This cycle continues until someone is born
who has enough vision to step out of his circle and investigate other ways of life in which he might
thrive. One such person is embodied in the character of Sammy in A P, by John Updike. Sammy is the
narrator of the story and describes an incident in the store where he encounters a conflict between the
members of two completely different worlds the world that he was born into and the world of a girl
that captures his mind. Through his thoughts, attitudes, and actions, Sammy ... Show more content on

Lastly, his family, after hearing the whole story, thought it was sad. Sammy, who understood
everything that had happened, did not. In this way he separated himself from his whole family; he
thought in such a different way that he could see things in a light that they could not.
Also emerging from Sammy s thoughts were his attitudes about his place in the world. Throughout the
story, he refers to the customers whom he is employed to serve as sheep s derogatory term implying
that he thought them to be dumb and maddeningly consistent. However, the way he describes the girl
who disrupted the flock showed that he regarded her with an attitude of awe and high esteem. He set
her apart in a class different from his own when he described how he envisioned her family: Her father
and the other men were standing around in ice cream coats and bow ties and the women were in
sandals picking up herring snacks on toothpicks off a big plate and they were all holding drinks the
color of water with olives and sprigs of mint in them (2). Obviously, Sammy does not have a hard time
deciding which class he likes better, for he constantly refers to the store in ways that reveal his
contempt for it.
Sammy s thoughts and attitudes culminate in his actions. Because he was tired of his work and the
people he encountered every day, the girls easily distracted

The Effect Of Oxygen Deficiency On Lake Ontario
Introduction Background:
The focus of this research project is to identify if there is an oxygen deficiency in lake Ontario through
the cause of rising phosphorus levels and effects of climate change. Measuring the dissolved oxygen
levels in lakes, rivers and oceans is crucial to determine if the water quality is affecting the organisms
in its ecosystem. Low dissolved oxygen levels will have an effect on the organism s like fish and other
species that require oxygen to breathe that are part of that particular ecosystem. If the dissolved
oxygen is not substantial enough it can severely deplete the quality of life of the water body in which
case the water body can be considered dead . This process is called eutrophication. The focus for ...

Lake Ontario is the 14th largest lake in the world with a water surface area of over 18,900 km²
[Schindler, 2008]. However it is the most polluted lake of all the five Great Lakes [Schindler, 2008].
From industrial runoff, urbanization due to high population density around the lake as well as
agriculture runoff, there are many sources of nutrient pollution around Lake Ontario. With the nutrient
pollution of the lake in this case I am focusing on phosphorus concentration causing the lake to
become anoxic. This can also be seen as the Eutrophication of lake Ontario due to phosphorus levels.
Eutrophication occurs when there is a high concentration of phosphorus in a body of water. As a result
aquatic vegetation and phytoplankton levels increase in the body of water, also known as an algal
bloom [Aquafor Beech, 2005]. Then, when algae decay s, it consumes oxygen from the water body,
resulting in the body of water to become oxygen deficient. This makes the biotic components in the
lake, which include fish and shellfish, difficult to survive because of the low dissolved oxygen levels
making the phosphorus levels of the lake a limiting factor. Climate Change is the long term alteration
in climate of a particular location or region or for the entire planet (Shrestha, 2014). The other concept
that people get confused with climate change is global warming. Global warming is an effect of
climate change, it

A Gradual Decline in Prejudice between Places and People...
A Gradual Decline in Prejudice between Places and People in North and South Through her
characterizations of the two main characters in Margaret Hale and John Thornton, Elizabeth Gaskell
develops a transition from prejudice to love. She reveals their inner most thoughts through an
omniscient third person narrative to allow the audience to empathise with their feelings. The
Characters develop through dialogue because they dispute over the North and South divide and try to

Mrs Hale had a preliminary regard for the town which was confirmed upon seeing the gloom of the
town. You can t think the smoky air of a manufacturing town, all chimneys and dirt like Milton

of Milton; she does not like the wallpaper or the architecture. The people in the town would make,
loud laughs and jests, particularly aimed at all those who appeared to be above them in rank or station
, Margaret has been alienated by the attitude of the townsfolk, and there is that element of prejudice
because they can see by the way she dresses she is not of their class. When Mr Thornton is introduced
to Margaret there is an initial prejudice, as the narrator says, He almost said to himself that he did not
like her, before their conversation ended. For Margaret the feeling is mutual, as she demonstrates by
speaking condescendingly of John to her mother. She believes Mr Thornton s education is responsible
for him being in trade, why he can t help that poor fellow . She talks in a pitiful manner of Mr
Thornton being in trade, because of her prejudice towards tradesmen. The Thornton and Hale family

Night and Fog vs Triumph of the Will Essay
Triumph of the Will and Night and Fog, portray Hitler s vision for Germany, and the findings of Allied
liberators of concentration camps in the beginning of World War II. A comparison of the films present
two very different views of what Hitler deemed necessary for Germany. They each displayed
propaganda in a way they re eye catching simply because of the raw footage. It took everything that
we knew about pre WWII and corrected it, so that we knew the truth about how the people of
Germany felt, and what they saw in those exact moments. The task of viewing these films was quite
difficult, and although both films seem to be a highly emotional and factual, I believe that Night and

If Hitler is not on the screen, he is always an assumed to be present. The object of the mass s gaze, the
erotic object of the mesmerized, ecstatic women in the crowds. By making it seem as though even the
statues and cats stopped to gaze at his wonders. It s hard to believe than one person is loved by so
many; it is almost as if it were to be too good to be true, and it was. It s hard to see any realism in this
film, like it was scripted instead. As said previously, a convincing piece of propaganda shows the
viewer hope, but also reality, and in the film, it looks anything but realistic.
In Night and Fog it was an appropriate design the way the switched from color to black and white. I
got two different meanings from this. 1) We live today in our present environment in a world filled
with color. We don t go through hunger, torture and our dignities aren t taken from us. The black and
white represents to me other people around the world which still today are going through similar times
as these victims in this film went through. 2) The theme in on which the comparison is about the past
and the present was very clear. The same pathways which were filled with the blood of the victims
were now all buried under the ground. The color represented the present and the black and white
represented the past.
By declaring that in Triumph of the Will everything is genuine and that not a single scene is staged,

A Comparison Of The Moth In A Tale Of Two Cities
The Death in honour Is someone s passion for something or someone a reason to give all you have,
including their own life, for that something or someone? Is this an honorable act to do so? After
examining the classic A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, the poem The Lesson of the Moth by
Don Marquis, and The Life and Death of Shane McConkey by Tim Sohn , it is evident that it is
possible to value something or someone more than your own life and doing so can be considered
honorable. Sometimes those who seem the most selfish can truly be the most caring. This is how
Sydney Carton is portrayed in the book A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. He is wasting away
his life drinking alcohol, seemingly to not care about anything. However ... Show more content on

long and be bored for the entirety of your life. (Don Marquis) The moth goes on saying ...we are like
human beings used to be before they became too civilized to enjoy themselves, (Don Marquis). The
moth feels that it is better to find something to make life have meaning rather than to live long with no
meaning. There is no joy in the only life he can live so he went to the one thing that brought joy and
beauty in the world and died for that. Burning up in a beautiful flame with the moment of happiness
before leaving this world had more meaning and honour than living the same, boring live and waiting
to die when becoming old. The moth had nothing else to be but be alive and that was not truly living,

What Is The Relativity Of Truth In Christian Worldview
Today, the Biblical truths of the Christian worldview are continuously being challenged by the
subjective, thinking and criticism, introduced by a relatively new entrant to the religious world stage
during the 20th Century, who frequently challenges the validity and credibility of the Bible; they are
known as Post modernist. They subscribe to a model of doctrinal theology, that when it comes to
Biblical truths, for example, places greater value on the aspect of experience, more than the concept of
reason. In which case, to the Post modernist, truth becomes relative. Relativity of truth is quite
problematic, from a Christian theological perspective, as it contends that the Bible does not present
absolute truth.

Compare And Contrast The Sniper And The Man He Killed
Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind. John Fitzgerald Kennedy wrote
this quote to the UN General Assembly on September 25, 1961. In other words Kennedy is saying that
people should stop war because war tears people apart. In the writings The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty
and The Man he Killed by Thomas Hardy they also talk about how war tears people apart. These two
writings are both very similar although they have some differences in literary devices plot, irony, and
theme.
In these two works there are similarities and differences in plot. A similar plot from both stories is that
the protagonist, a soldier, had to kill someone. He must kill the enemy that enemy and he could not
use his rifle. (O Flaherty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it wasn t for war, in both stories, they would have been friends. When the sniper reached the
laneway on the street level, he felt a sudden curiosity as to the identity of the enemy sniper whom he
had killed. (O Flaherty 208) In this quote from the The Sniper the main character wants to know the
person he killed, because he might like him and wanted to be friends with him. In the two stories the
main characters were both good people and felt remorse. You d treat if met where any bar is (Hardy

The Sniper has situational irony. Suddenly from the opposite roof a shot rang out and the sniper
dropped his rifle with a curse. (O Flaherty 207) The shooter wasn t expecting this outcome, because he
got shot instead of the other guy. In the poem The Man He Killed there is verbal irony. I shot him dead
because because he was my foe (Hardy 9 10) The man he killed was only his enemy on the battlefield,
but he felt like the could have been friends. Irony plays a big part in both writings because both the

Recreational Therapy Essay
The world is becoming a rapidly changing place in terms of population growth, cultural values, and
intertwined beliefs not only in the United States, but also on an international scale. According to Terry
Robertson and Terry Long, authors of Foundations of Therapeutic Recreation, significant changes in
culture and interdependent belief systems are happening all around us. These cultural changes are
occurring worldwide, (2008, p. 270). With these rapidly occurring global changes, Recreational
Therapy as a profession needs to be changing along with this new global society. As professionals,
recreational therapists need to be able to be flexible and meet many roles, while on the job (Long,
Robertson, 2008, p. 273). This is why the future of Recreational Therapy will not only grow in clinical
settings, but on a community basis as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dr. Boris Bizumic s The Republic Of Liberia
The Republic of Liberia was founded in 1847 by the descendants of former slaves in search of the
freedoms and liberties unobtainable in the United States. Their relationship with the established
indigenous population was contentious from the start. The settlers colonized their new home by
dominating economic and political control over the indigenous for 133 years. Some historians
perceive that it was these new settlers, exhibiting ethnocentric tendencies, that ultimately led to a
failed republic and two bloody civil wars. These new settlers from the Americas reached the African
west coast, created a society entrenched in classism, social segregation, and enslavement that resulted
in Liberia becoming one of the poorest countries in the world. ... Show more content on

They clearly made Christianity an entitlement for the privileged Liberian while they disregarded
traditional beliefs and practices of the indigenous ethnic groups. Dr. Bizumic affirms that having a
unique religion is an important differential characteristic for many ethnic groups, but even when
ethnic groups adopt world religions, such as Christianity, they may adapt them to fit their own ethnic
groups (Bizumic, B. (2015), p. 6). Sociologist William G. Sumner was the first to define the term
ethnocentrism. He relates ethnocentrism as tribal or ethnic group egocentrism: view of things in which
one s own group is the center of everything, and all others are scaled and rated with reference to it

Theme Of The One That Got Away
One of the fundamental themes in Zoë Wicomb s collection of short stories, The One that Got Away,
and that which this essay focuses on, is identity. Wicomb s short stories are interwoven with political
percepts, history and semiotics linking her two homes, Glasgow and Cape Town, as well as the
different stories, together through a extensive network of interconnected identities and settings (Driver
145). By the juxtaposing of settings in a single period of time, Wicomb creates a unique social and
domestic backdrop that reveals elements of the characters identity, and, inadvertently, elements of her
own life. Wicomb strategically makes use of historical and cultural references to produce intra textual
significance to allow the reader to engage in the text and deconstruct conventionalized ideas and
notions (Driver 146). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

great significance to the author, but rather a manifest of Wicomb s diasporic experience as a South
African living in Scotland. Boy in the jute sack hood shows the importance of spaces as opposed to

Naomi Shihab Nye Essay
In the book Habibi, by Naomi Shihab Nye, there are many ways that the author expresses her feelings
of identity through the main character, Liyana. The main forms of identity are ethnicity, religion, and
age. These all affect the way that people look at you and judge you. In Habibi, Liyana is judged by her
age, religion, and ethnicity. This is also part of why moving to a different country is hard for Liyana;
people in Jerusalem judge your identity differently. However, Liyana does not let the comments of
others change her. She still stays true to her own opinion of her ethnicity, age, and religion throughout
the novel. This helps her settle the many internal and external disputes associated with living in a new
country with a different part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, Liyana must discover what she believes her ethnicity is. Ethnicity is the association with a
certain social group with similar beliefs or cultures. However, Liyana is a mix of two parents from
different ethnicities. This makes Liyana what Americans call a half and half , and what Arabs call nos
nos . However, Liyana does not quite consider herself exactly half of one ethnicity and half of the
other. In the novel, Liyana discovers many different parts to the Arabic culture that she enjoys and
other parts to her American culture that she does not. This does not mean that Liyana is more Arabic
than American, but shows how Liyana is a holder of many different cultures and ethnicities. However,
many people in Jerusalem judge based on ethnicity. An example of this was when a Jewish stranger
told Liyana not to associate with an Indian spice vendor named Bassam. This shows that many people
discriminate and are mean to people of different cultures. Age is another part of Liyana s identity that
she must accept in order to adapt in Jerusalem. Age can show knowledge and can mark the points of a
more mature person. However, age shows mostly the amount of experiences one person has

Change Of Identity In I Am Not Esther By Fleur Beale
The novel, I am not Esther, written by Fleur Beale follows Kirby Greenland, a fourteen year old girl,
who is suddenly abandoned by her mother. Kirby is then forced to live with family members she has
never met before in an unfamiliar, religious community with strict rules and regulations. During her
time in the community, also considered as a cult , Kirby faced the challenges of identity change and
loss as well as abandonment and isolation. This helped me develop a deep understanding of Kirby and
how she undergoes a large character development throughout the text. Firstly, I gained an
understanding of Kirby and her character development through how she dealt with her loss and change
of identity. When Kirby first entered the community, she is stripped of her belongings and even her
name they give her a new biblical name of Esther . This made Kirby feel outraged and like her identity
had just been attacked. Kirby faces this challenge by reproaching the change instantly. I know this
because she says I m Kirby, not Esther for God s sake. This showed me that Kirby is sure of her
identity and would disobey the community to act in a way which is true to herself. However, after
spending so much time with unfamiliar people and in an unfamiliar environment, Kirby questions
whether she is Kirby or Esther, seeing her two self consciousness as two separate beings. Kirby is
asked by Mrs Fletcher, the guidance counsellor whom she enlisted help from, what she wished to be
called.

The Origins Of The Viking Age
One of the most interesting times in medieval history is the era known as the Viking Age. When these
fierce sea borne raiders rummaged and plundered European sea ports of their valuables and treasures.
These Scandinavian inhabitants were known to most of the world as a barbaric group, when in reality,
there style of attacking had more skill than the world had seen. They struck fear and intimidation into
their victims and made the whole European seaboard quake in angst for their arrival. Not only did they
want to inflict fear into Europe as well as raid them from their treasures, the Scandinavians were also
looking to expand their kind to other parts of Europe due to the lack of land in Scandinavia. One of the
first things most citizens of the world think of when you say Scandinavian is Vikings. However, this is
not 100% accurate. The term Viking was not a ethnicity or group of people, it was a job description. It
did not apply to women, children or slaves of the time, only the Scandinavian men. The Vikings were
not illiterate, however, they were also not able to write letters and letters of things they partook in.
They did something similar to other Germanic cultures and used a style of runic inscriptions. In the
Viking society, their law was fairly straight forward. They took into account the crime committed, but
also the worth of the victim before dealing out the punishment. Interestingly enough, however,
individual rank also played a factor in this decision. For

Sexual Inequality, Disease And Despotism
Despite some of the truths in this quote like the idea that agriculture may have led to sexual inequality,

creation of agriculture came a sedentary life style, and these two concepts led to the significant
increase in human population, as it was a more stable approach to living. It is only human nature to
want more, want to succeed, and want to better them selves and maintain dominance. If the adoption

Such a demand called for enhancement in technology and tools. Tools were not a new concept during
the creation of agriculture, yet, with the agrarian age and those to follow came the advancement of
tools. Tools transitioned from the first stone hand axe4 to unique tools specifically for agriculture,
such as the plow, and other tools that had been used since the earliest of times were upgraded. Food
storage and systems food processing became a necessity to these agricultural based societies.
Agriculture changed and bettered previously used tools in a way that wouldn t have been possible
without the agrarian world. Following these creations came the irrigation system. Some societies faced
the challenge of flooding spoiling crops. The use of these large and complex irrigation systems gave
them control of the water that raises their crops. Though an irrigation system wouldn t have been a
necessity in a world without agriculture, this system inspired and birthed new inventions that have
aided different aspects of life that humanity could not go with out. Alongside these advancements
came the advancements regarding architecture. As agriculture played the greatest role in sedentary
civilizations, it is also the motive behind the growing interests and improvements in architecture.
Through out the Indus Valley during the third millennium B.C.E. vast ground plans and impressive

Personal Narrative On Escape From Reality
Escape From Reality
Is it possible to get stuck on this island? my Mom asked our tour guide with a worried tone while
disembarking a ship which took us to a peaceful, isolated, and small island in the Faroe Islands. This
tiny, microscopic island, that is even hard to spot on a globe, lies between Iceland and Norway. During
our summer vacation, we were planning to get a look at the ancient village with a population of
exactly 11 people, and most importantly, the magnificent puffins. Since this is the only place in the
world where you can get close to them, my family and I were dedicated to doing whatever it takes to
get a slight glimpse. The boat that took us here only made two trips: to take us to the island and to take
us back to the mainland. While adjusting his backpack and grabbing a tall, wooden stick so we can
spot him clearly, our tour guide, Tomas, let out a small laugh.
Oh no, Miss. It has never happened before when a group got stuck. Well, that I know of, so we should
be fine. Besides the weather looks great. said Tomas, who was a citizen of the Faroe Islands. I can tell
he had a sense of pride of his small island he called home and also sense the adventure in his eyes and
I knew I was going to have a exhilarating time with him. When we reached the top of the port, I said
Mom, to calm her down from her uneasy feeling of getting stuck. Why would they send us to an island
that is unsafe for tourists in the first place? Also, many people have been here, like Tomas said, so
what are the chances of us getting stuck? Besides, Mom weren t you the most excited for this very

Mom s childhood dream: to visit a Nordic country. Hiking up tall, magnificent mountains with a view
of a huge, stormy ocean while daydreaming about the age of the Vikings strong men with legends and
venturesome stories of their own, was something she always wanted to do.

Impact Of Ww2 On Australian Economy
Australians at War World War II (WWII) made a significant impact in shaping modern Australia. This
war contributed to social, political and technological developments throughout Australia and the
world. SOCIAL DEVELOPMENTS WWII had a big impact on the social changes in Australia before
and after the war. One of the reasons it had such an impact on Australia was due to the immigration
policy, which was made to increase Australia s population. The immigration policy is a policy on legal
migrants. Legal migrants who come to Australia under the migration act are non Australians who
come to the country for work or other reasons without permission or people who overstay their visas.
This enforces that those who come in the country without permission may be subject to mandatory
immigration detention and may be deported from the country at any time, unless been given
permission to stay in Australia. This policy has contributed to the multicultural society of Australia
today. To this day, there in an estimated 50 000 people who have overstayed their visas, most of these
people come from British nations. Those touching base by boat or different means without official
classification as refugees are no longer granted permission outcast status on landing. For example,
those from an Asian background are becoming a more familiar part of Australia s society today.
Overseas migrant entries have assumed a vital part in changing the face of Australia. The current
variety of migrants born in Australia include areas such as The United Kingdom, New Zealand, Italy,
Vietnam, China, Greece, Germany, Philippines and India. Since the change in immigration policy in
the late 1960s to one of non discrimination on race or ethnic background, there has been a significant
change in the overseas sources of migrants, with settlers arriving from more diverse regions of the
world. To this day, Australia s overseas born population consists of people who practise over 140
recognized ethnic groups, people who fluently speak over 90 different languages and people who
believe in over 80 different religions. This expanding ethnic and social diversity has changed the way
Australians view both themselves and other societies of the world. It has

As population of this planet has grown, we have increasingly tapped deeper into our planets fresh
water resources and are now finding less available when and where it is needed. Our available fresh
water is static, there is essentially no more fresh water on the planet today than there was 2,000 years
ago when the earth s human population was less than three percent its current size. The trend of
population growth is quite obvious.
According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the population of the world in 1955 was 2.8 billion; in
the year 2014, the world s population increased to 7.207 billion. According to World Watch, the
population is expected to reach 8.1 billion people by the year 2025. As population increases, so does
demand for pure drinking water, but changes in social attitudes and behaviors could redirect our
present course and possibly curb the global population growth.
Social and economic trends in population growth appear to be changing. Our past can provide
substantial insight into our future. Family planning services have had great success and produced
dramatic results in reducing global population, thus reducing fresh water consumption. According the
John Bongaarts, population has been reduced by an estimated 400 million people through the use of
family planning programs. In many parts of the world, water problems are today more manageable

of the truck. The smell of burnt rubber and gasoline fill the cramped space. The sirens atop the thick
metal roof of the truck bounce back and forth on houses and cars nearby. Dark clouds start to form
above the speeding truck and soon the rain is playing a soft beat on the roof. The cold weather creates
a pale fog against the window. Everything starts to slow down and become faded, the dark night
outside the window now is everywhere and a group of boys are playing baseball. The ball is a dirty
cream color and is throwing off water as it spins through the air, then smack it hits a leather glove with
an explosion of water up into a young boy s smiling face. There is a newspaper on the ground that is
soaked but the date says April 24th, 1986.

Reducing Risk Factors of Children’s Resilience Essay
Reducing Risk Factors of Children s Resilience This paper will examine the concept of resilience as it
has emerged in the research literature of Grotberg (1995). It will evaluate the effectiveness of the
concept in the area of developing more effective protective factors for children and families subjected
to vulnerability and adversity. It will be noted that resilience needs to be promoted on three fronts,
work on individual resilience strategies, promotion of resilience through the organisations and
agencies, such as school and the curriculum, family welfare services and promotion of resilience in the
community. This paper concentrates on those aspects of reducing the risk factors and increasing ...

The concept of resilience is closely associated with risk and suggests that at risk children and families
are more likely to develop an adverse outcome or disorder than others, which includes poverty,
unemployment, homelessness, poor health, single parenting and divorce, organisational, social, cohort
and family line diversity. Given the conceptual complexities of resilience, it is important to take stock
of the individual factors, family dynamics e.g. step families, adoption, fostering and environmental
difficulties such as war, drought, cultural beliefs, which resilience develops. Such a conceptual
framework is likely to provide a useful yet multidimensional conceptualisation of resilience. Focusing
on these individual, familial, and environmental risk and protective factors, their influence on the
landscape of reunification and re entry opens new avenues for exploration, which lead to more
effective interventions for children and families (Rapoprt Rapoprot, 1982). Although protective and
risk have often been used interchangeably in the literature, Rutter (1999) sees resilience as the
attribute that characterise and structuralise the conceptual framework of protective perspective. The
protective perspective emphasises the resources, assets, potentials, and capabilities of children,
groups, families, and communities (Bernards, 1997). This approach also marks a definitive

Life Of A Cobbler Analysis
The life of a cobbler is definitely different than being a wealthy business owner. A cobbler is a person
someone would bring shoes to fix rather than having to throw them away. Especially if the pair of
shoes cost more than it is to fix them. Maybe the job doesn t seem like much but to others, it s their
life. Booker T. Washington, a former influential educator once said, There is as much dignity in tilling
a field as in writing a poem. Which in this case there is as much dignity as being a cobbler as there is
at being a wealthy business person. Booker T. wrote a speech called the Atlanta Exposition Address
about how the equality of people of color with people of none color. He said sometimes people must

The Effects Of Colonialism In Monkey Beach By Eden...
Canada has been well regarded with its attitude towards multiculturalism, establishing an Act that
protects the rights of people who have different beliefs and the encouragement for all cultures to work
together. While being the only country to have a policy such as the Multiculturalism Act, racism has
been a part of Canadian history, including but not limited to the colonialism of Indigenous Peoples and
the internment of Japanese Canadians. The effects of colonialism on indigenous culture and the
treatment of Japanese Canadians are reflected in the novels Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson and
Obasan by Joy Kogawa. The main characters of the novels, Lisamarie in Monkey Beach and Naomi in
Obasan, both come to terms with the effects of growing up in minority communities in British
Columbia, as well as discovering their own identities, by reflecting on their pasts during a time of
family tragedies. Lisamarie struggles with accepting and understanding her spirituality in a family that
mostly ignores and denies their connections to the spirituality of their ancestors, due to the effects of
colonialism and residential schools. Naomi reflects on her family being removed from their homes and
the racism that the Japanese faced after the Pearl Harbour attack. Robinson and Kogawa use their
protagonists to look back to the past and reflect on the events that have shaped their families.
Lisamarie discovers how spirituality and relationships have been molded due to the colonialism and

Discussion on Conditionality of IMF Loans from the...
Critically discuss conditionality of IMF loans from the perspective of different IPE theories.
There are three IPE (international political economy) that includes, economic national perspective,
liberal national perspective and critical perspective. These theories are used to analyze global political
economy.
Economic national perspective.
Economic national perspective strains the importance of the states national interest and understanding
actions in global perspective. This perspective is a state centered theory, thus, it focus mainly on states
own interest.
Further more, this theory dates back on to the rise and extension nation states in Europe in 15th
century. Nevertheless, mercantilist believed that there was a limited ... Show more content on

Therefore, economic national perspective is established across the actions of coherent states.
Nevertheless, foreign affairs is perceived as a fight for power, as well as international political
economy which is seen as combating for power and wealth.
According to IPE specialists focusing on this approach (economic national perspective) description of
the global economy suggest the concerns of the most powerful nations . (O Brien and Williams 2013
p. 10.)
Advantages and disadvantages with economic national perspective.
Advantages.
This approach protects the national interests, and it s good for domestic producers. Therefore, when a
state uses this approach, domestic producers will have a good market because there are no TNCs
(transnational corporations) or foreign firms in the country.
Moreover, it has a zero sum game; one states gain is another states loss. Thus, nations should focus on
their own interests. This theory can be used by developing countries in order to reach economic
growth. For instance, China has engaged to open economy and profiting from liberal system. Thus, at
the same time China supported economic national perspective through challenging conditions on all
foreign investments to accomplish development.
Thus, there were also some states used this approach to limit trade such as health, employment and
safety in order to protect their citizens. Especially healthcare and educations are important and some
states do

Pet Industry Analysis
Industry Description and Outlook Based off an article Miami Herald in 2014, dog grooming and
boarding businesses make around $100,000+ annually. With this information, the market share for one
of these companies would be .0017% market share, while the higher end businesses in the pet services
industry make $1,000,000+ annually which translates to a .017% market share. I did get a chance to
speak to a representative from the Pet Paradise Resort and Day Spa which said that they make an
estimated $70,000 $80,000 per year. Based off this research we can expect to make at least $70,000 a
year. Therefore, in five years we should make at least $350,000 and in 10 years 700,000. According to

Government in the Macro Environment The Animal Welfare Act was signed into law in 1966. It is the
only Federal law in the United States that regulates the treatment of animals in research, exhibition,
transport, and by dealers. There are rules in effect for housing, care, and welfare, including disaster
planning. In addition, there are a few federal regulations that have an impact on the production and
sale of pet food products. As of 2007, the Food and Drug Administration developed regulations on pet
food ingredients and processing control standards.

The Business Strategy Of Caterpillar Inc.
An organisation s strategy plays an important role of providing direction of where company wants to
be and how best to allocate the company s resources to meet its objectives. The formulation of
business strategies has evolved over the years and has been made more difficult in recent by the
uncertain operating environments and global financial crises. The key to sustainable business is
ensuring that the company s strategy proportions are aligned (Kim, W.C Mauborgne, R, 2009).
Caterpillar Inc. has been in existence since 1925 and the company has faced its fair share of turmoil.
The current global challenges coupled with a stronger dollar make it difficult for any organisation to
operate but Caterpillar continues to outperform the competition. The key to the company s success is
its strategy execution supported by an unmatched distribution network. In this analysis, I tried to
outline the organisation s strategy, its weakness and strengths and made recommendations to improve
competitive performance. 2 Background to Caterpillar Inc. Caterpillar Inc. (Caterpillar) is an

Captain Honore Dialectical Journal
Port des Cannes, France Marci awoke at dawn, ready to jump back into life and sail down the coast to
Spain. She laid out the map, tracing the coastline and studying the inlets where the boat would seek
harbor. She sat one last time, on the balcony of her room at the Majestic, overlooking the beach and
glanced out at the harbor. She sipped her espresso, pensive about Javier. Her jaw quivered ever so
slightly as she said her final goodbyes. Time to join the living. Enough grieving! She had wept the
reverent tears of a forlorn wife. Now, there was a new man waiting in the folds of the curtains.

In fact, all of the modern navigational systems were on board. But, Captain Honore was an old salt
who thought the new manners of navigating were a bunch of rubbish. He still believed in the old
seaman s way of navigating piloting with chart, parallel rules and dividers. He used a hand bearing
compass, pointed at a lighthouse or some other landmark and looked across the lubber s line into the
bowl, taking bearings of two or more objects, and reading the direction or bearing of that object, off of
the compass. Then, he plotted them onto his chart. Where the lines crossed, was where he was. It was
that simple. The GPS was for his clients. It made them feel better, not him. As he guided the boat out
of the bay, they passed a tall white port marker at the end of the western breakwater. He close hauled
on the starboard tack; aiming the vessel towards the northern side of the bay and passed the les de
Lerin. Next, he put about and made for the open sea. Marci stared past the beach side Promenade de la

The Tragedy Of Sophocles Antigone
The story in Antigone shows two things that Sophocles could be pointing which is important whether
may be the family or authority. Readers could not tell whether Sophocles would be choosing which
but most conclude that Sophocles could be siding with family as it talks much more about it than
authority. In the mind of a reader, family is mostly likely the winner as Antigone cares her brother
Polyneices, Antigone denies the rule of Creon, Creon values his son and his wife, and Sophocles
might be making a point when he made family important in Antigone. In the story of Sophocles,
Antigone consider both Eteocles and Polyneices equally even though both were killed each other. But
even so, Antigone consider them both as brothers and they are still part of the family. In the play,
Antigone point out that Eteocles is being buried with honors while Polyneices isn t: Antigone. Listen,
Ismene: Creon buried our brother Eteocles With military honors, gave him a soldier s funeral, And it
was right that he should; but Polyneices, Who fought as bravely and died as miserable, That say that
Creon has sworn No one shall bury him, no one mourn for him, But his body must lie in the fields, a
sweet treasure For carrion birds to find as they search for food. That is what they say, and our good
Creon is coming here To announce it publicly; and the penalty Stoning to death in the public square.
There it is, And now you can prove what you are: A

  • 2. The Importance Of Crime And Punishment The system is wrong and different from us. There are many ways to reason through the correct course of action involving human punishment for crime. Crime is considered negative in society. During biblical times crime is not only affected society, but it was believed to have also been directed towards God himself. The Bible is the oldest book to reference with many directives to living life peacefully and without revenge (StudyMode crime and punishment). The problems arise when the time comes to punish a criminal. There are disagreements over the severity of a crime, the mentality of the criminal, and the correct penalty that should result from that crime among other things. Immanuel Kant has a few fundamental ideas about how society should think and behave. Among his ideas is the way to deal with crime and approach punishment. Kant believed in the idea of Retributivism. He felt that one should pay for the crime that they committed in a way equivalent to the crime, whereas like the nation of Seecebeesia utilitarian may also take the position that criminals should be rehabilitated rather than necessarily punished for the crime, since many criminals have a questionable state of mind (2008, Philosophical Approach to Crime and Punishment). Also in the bible Matthew 5:38 states, You have heard that it has been said, eye for eye and tooth for tooth . It explains that the punishment should fit the crime. If criminals know that there is going to be a punishment, and what that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Six Convicts The right to a free trial The right to a fair trial. It protects society from injustice and separates the guilty from the innocent. Without this human right, law and order in society would not be as fair as it is today, however, in some cases this right was not given. Six convicts from Adelaide, South Australia were found guilty and sentenced to jail due to the evidence given by Doctor Colin Manock, a Forensic Pathologist. This essay will discuss in detail the six convicts cases and if they were given the right to a fair trial. Also whether or not they should have been convicted based from the forensic and scientific evidence given during their trial by Doctor Colin Manock (FairTrials.org, 2015). Henry Keogh was jailed for twenty years until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having the right to a far trial can only be made after... In my opinion all of these men were not given this right and although they may not be innocent they should still be given it. Dr Colin Manock has presented questionable forensic evidence for all six of these cases which has lead to wrongful convictions. The men have had to live and put up with the brutal consequences for a crime they possibly did not commit. Meaning, that the true murderer is roaming freely on the streets. Compensation may help but never completely heal the damage done. This is showing that there is a huge flaw in our appeals process in South Australia. So many more appeals are becoming successful, therefore, convicts are having their jail time cut shorter or their conviction(s) removed. By having the right to a free trail this can all be avoided (Adelaidenow.com.au, 2015). In my opinion the courts should have not just relied on Dr Manock s forensic evidence, not just for these cases but for all including those not of Dr Manock s. Several forensic scientists should have investigated each case which means more people, more ideas and opinions that can be put together for a much more accurate result. This will avoid future wrongful convictions and in the long term save the Government money by not having to pay compensation to the convicts and even better, it will make the appeals process much better in South Australia (Adelaidenow.com.au, ... Each of these cases represent a different kind of tort, a tort is a civil wrong or wrongful act, which can be either intentional or accidental, from which injury occurs to another (Hill Hill n.d.). The torts are as listed, intentional, criminal, negligence, and liability as presented in the four researched cases. State Rubbish Collectors Ass n v. The plaintiff had caused the defendant to suffer such extreme fright that it compelled him to either give up the Acme account he had been working in the service area and give to the State Rubbish Collectors Association back payment or the defendant had to become a member with the association and pay dues. The courts ruled that the plaintiff had not right to use such coercive methods when competing for business and the liability was clear in this circumstance. The defendant was awarded $1250.00 by the plaintiff for compensatory damages and $4000.00 was awarded by the association for exemplary damages. Plaintiff attempted to appeal stating the awarded amount was excessive; the courts ruled that the amount awarded was not excessive and denied the appeal from the plaintiff. No dissenting opinion was made. People v. Watson Someone commits a wrongful act and someone is the victim is considered a crime. The charge is against the defendant and if found to be responsible for the crime the defendant serves a sentence and pays a fine to the government and possible restitution is paid to the victim of the crime. • 6. Symbolism Of The Scarlet Letter The Scarlet Letter: Symbolism of the Scarlet A Symbolism has many different meanings, and the Scarlet A in The Scarlet Letter has many different meanings as well. Hester Prynne is the main character who is forced to wear the scarlet letter as remembrance for the crime and the sin that she has committed. This letter completely ruined her reputation in her community. How could a small piece of fabric do so much harm? This letter was a representation of something much greater than the letter A . This letter was originally made to stand for adulteress, as physical reminder of her sins. The vibrant scarlet red is meant to shame Hester, to make her feel sorry for her mistakes. Most importantly it was a symbol for change and an emblem of identity. In short, the scarlet letter meant much more than a letter of shame, it was simply a piece of fabric with meaning that could easily change. The first representation of the A was adulteress. When Hester Prynne slept with Reverend Dimmesdale, as a married woman, she became pregnant. The community thought her a widow, and knew that she could not be pregnant, unless she had committed adultery. The community decided on a punishment for her crimes, Hester was forced to wear the scarlet A at all times as a reminder of the sin she had committed before God. In the puritan era sin was utterly unacceptable, and Hester had committed adultery, a sin punishable by death itself. This brings us to the next symbolic evidence of the letter. ... • 8. Inventions Of Leonardo Da Vinci Derwin Williams Luke Edmonson Engineering applications 10/25/2017 The Inventions of Leonardo Da Vinci Everyone knows Leonardo Da Vinci for his Last Supper Painting and the Mona Lisa. Not only was Da Vinci a painter he was also an inventor. He had a fascination for planes and other unique things. He made the designs for things like guns and planes that we use for our military and did not even know he was the first with the ideas of these inventions . He made designs for four flying machines such as the anemometer and the parachute. He made designs for four war machines such has the crossbow and armed car. He made designs for five innovations such the clock and the colossus. And last but not least, he designed two water machines such as the scuba gear. As I stated in the previous paragraph Leonardo Da Vinci had a thing for planes so he decided to a make a design for the anemometer. If you did not know what this device does, it helps measure the speed of wind. Though Da Vinci did not invent the anemometer, he did however make many variation from the original one invented by Leon Batista back in 1450. Da Vinci s design for the anemometer had an arched frame with a rectangular piece of wood hanging from the piece of wood. So everyone know that when jump out of a plane, you need a parachute. Most people think that Sebastian Lenormand designed the parachute well guess what they are wrong. Leonardo Da Vinci actually created the parachute in way before Lenormand came along. Da ... • 9. Long Term Space Travel And Its Effects On The Human Body Long term Space Travel and its Effects on the Human Body Synopsis: Humans are planning more space missions to Mars and deeper into the solar system. These manned missions require longer periods of time in space than any human has ever spent, as well as traveling farther from Earth s protection than ever before. There has been very little research conducted regarding the effects of prolonged space travel on the human body. This paper examines how space travel will likely alter bodily functions. The evolution of life on Earth means that humans are adapted and specialized to live and function in Earth s environment. The environment of open space presents hazards such as: solar radiation, microgravity, and extreme isolation. Prolonged exposure to these hazards could result in cardiovascular issues, cancers, cellular disruption, decreased bone density, osteoporosis, psychological issues, and more. It is important for scientists to research these hazards and their effects on the human body further so as to find solutions and ways to combat the negative outcomes. Exploration is a key component of human nature. Humans have always had the will to venture out into the unknown and explore new world. The curious and adventurous nature of mankind colonized the Earth and landed men on the moon. But what is the next step? How much farther can man go? Humans are looking past the moon, to the stars and beyond now. In the past decade, multiple spacefaring governments and corporations have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Creating A Solid Ecommerce Marketing Strategy Essay Niche stores offer value in a crowded marketplace. While most companies stick to catering to the masses, specialized businesses are cornering the market by selling unique products and services to targeted consumers. For example, eCommerce store Beardbrand only sells beard care products, ranging from natural beard oil to mustache wax. To compete with mass retailers, niche stores must build up their presence within their targeted communities. That s why creating a solid eCommerce marketing strategy is important. Here are five ways a niche store can jumpstart its eCommerce marketing strategy: 1. Answer questions on industry specific websites. Create a niche community by answering questions from your audience. Research 5 10 industry specific forums and start giving away free knowledge. If it fits your market, try offering solutions on Quora and Yahoo! Answers. People want helpful answers. • 13. Cell Phone Radiation On Human Brain The objective of this research is to study the effect of cell phone radiation on human brain. It is known that the cell phone produces electromagnetic radiation which could be harmful to the human brain. When the phone is placed 5 cm away from the head there is less brain activity compared to when the cell phone is placed next to the ear or head on either side. Special attention is focused on Temporal and Frontal lobes as these are very close to the ear, which is call the electromagnetic radiation. The Electromagnetic radiation is measured in terms of specific absorption rate (SAR). SAR is measured for two common holding positions of mobile phone: Cheek and Tilt. In tilt position, the mobile phone tilted for 15° and 30° from a person s head. The SAR measured in the Cheek position has much lower values than of tilt position. The brain is one of the most important organs of the body that coordinates all the activities. It is divided into three major parts namely: Cerebrum, Cerebellum, brain stem and diencephalon. Cerebrum is the largest part of the brain. It covers the diencephalon and is divided into right and left hemisphere longitudinally. Each hemisphere is subdivided into brain lobes, named as: Frontal lobe, Parietal lobe, Temporal lobe and Occipital lobe. The effect of SAR majority depends on the antenna position on the mobile phone. A mobile phone with mounted antenna on top and hold in tilt position results in more absorption of EM radiation by the head. This happens as the antenna is closer proximity to the head. Moreover, SAR values change with variation of holding position of mobile phone. Cheek and tilt are two prevalent ways of holding a mobile phone. The electromagnetic fields produced by mobile phones are classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as possibly hazardous to humans [1]. The radio frequency used for communication can penetrate through semi solid substances, such as living tissue with a distance proportional to its power density. Research has demonstrated that the short term effect of EM waves on the human brain [2]. However, the evidence supporting the research is very little for any kind of short or long term effect. • 14. The Passionate Shepherd Essay The Passionate Shepherd and The Nymph s Reply are two very intriguing poems with two different viewpoints on Love, Nature, Time, and the Materialistic world. In this comparative essay you will understand how two people love each other unconditionally, but have divergent views on how to love one another. The Shepherd is in love with the nymph and he believes that if he gives her everything that she ambitiously desires then she ll come and dwell with him. To me the Shepherd s love is more based around items and materials in general, his love was more materialistic and idealistic that actually putting love into it. Yes, he meant well and all but you have to think no woman is going to stay around long if the only thing that the man does is get her stuff all the time. Now, the Nymph she loves the Shepherd and wants to go live with him, but she wants him to actually think that instead of flowers and skirts she wants love and affection. She wants someone that s going to love her and not hurt her. She wants to feel like what she s getting herself into is going to last, instead of giving her another heartbreak. But the love is there for both of them, they are both just trying to find some way for the other one to understand. The nature (tone) of both poems is having, dissimilar viewpoints also. The Shepherd s tone was more warm and happy thoughts. He was excited and he focused on his future with the Nymph, he had a melodious tone, almost like a lullaby. The Nymph s nature was death related, she was more worried about what if things didn t work out where was that going to leave her and she was more focused on the past, like she felt that the Shepherd was going to be like another man that she has dealt with. She viewed nature in a cold winter like view, she feels like everything will inevitably leave. Their natures were like seasons; the Shepherds nature was like summer and spring where everything is happy and alive, and the nymph s nature was like winter where everything is cold and dead. Their view of time pretty much ties in with the way that they had viewed nature, the Shepherd believed that their love will grow overtime, he thinks that love is a forever thing. They accept that position into which they are born, grow up in it, and pass that position on to their children. This cycle continues until someone is born who has enough vision to step out of his circle and investigate other ways of life in which he might thrive. One such person is embodied in the character of Sammy in A P, by John Updike. Sammy, who understood everything that had happened, did not. In this way he separated himself from his whole family; he thought in such a different way that he could see things in a light that they could not. Also emerging from Sammy s thoughts were his attitudes about his place in the world. Throughout the story, he refers to the customers whom he is employed to serve as sheep s derogatory term implying that he thought them to be dumb and maddeningly consistent. However, the way he describes the girl who disrupted the flock showed that he regarded her with an attitude of awe and high esteem. He set her apart in a class different from his own when he described how he envisioned her family: Her father and the other men were standing around in ice cream coats and bow ties and the women were in sandals picking up herring snacks on toothpicks off a big plate and they were all holding drinks the color of water with olives and sprigs of mint in them (2). Obviously, Sammy does not have a hard time deciding which class he likes better, for he constantly refers to the store in ways that reveal his contempt for it. Sammy s thoughts and attitudes culminate in his actions. Because he was tired of his work and the people he encountered every day, the girls easily distracted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Effect Of Oxygen Deficiency On Lake Ontario Introduction Background: The focus of this research project is to identify if there is an oxygen deficiency in lake Ontario through the cause of rising phosphorus levels and effects of climate change. Measuring the dissolved oxygen levels in lakes, rivers and oceans is crucial to determine if the water quality is affecting the organisms in its ecosystem. Low dissolved oxygen levels will have an effect on the organism s like fish and other species that require oxygen to breathe that are part of that particular ecosystem. If the dissolved oxygen is not substantial enough it can severely deplete the quality of life of the water body in which case the water body can be considered dead . This process is called eutrophication. The focus for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lake Ontario is the 14th largest lake in the world with a water surface area of over 18,900 km² [Schindler, 2008]. However it is the most polluted lake of all the five Great Lakes [Schindler, 2008]. From industrial runoff, urbanization due to high population density around the lake as well as agriculture runoff, there are many sources of nutrient pollution around Lake Ontario. With the nutrient pollution of the lake in this case I am focusing on phosphorus concentration causing the lake to become anoxic. This can also be seen as the Eutrophication of lake Ontario due to phosphorus levels. Eutrophication occurs when there is a high concentration of phosphorus in a body of water. As a result aquatic vegetation and phytoplankton levels increase in the body of water, also known as an algal bloom [Aquafor Beech, 2005]. Then, when algae decay s, it consumes oxygen from the water body, resulting in the body of water to become oxygen deficient. This makes the biotic components in the lake, which include fish and shellfish, difficult to survive because of the low dissolved oxygen levels making the phosphorus levels of the lake a limiting factor. Climate Change is the long term alteration in climate of a particular location or region or for the entire planet (Shrestha, 2014). The other concept that people get confused with climate change is global warming. Global warming is an effect of climate change, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The people in the town would make, loud laughs and jests, particularly aimed at all those who appeared to be above them in rank or station , Margaret has been alienated by the attitude of the townsfolk, and there is that element of prejudice because they can see by the way she dresses she is not of their class. When Mr Thornton is introduced to Margaret there is an initial prejudice, as the narrator says, He almost said to himself that he did not like her, before their conversation ended. For Margaret the feeling is mutual, as she demonstrates by speaking condescendingly of John to her mother. She believes Mr Thornton s education is responsible for him being in trade, why he can t help that poor fellow . She talks in a pitiful manner of Mr Thornton being in trade, because of her prejudice towards tradesmen. The Thornton and Hale family symbolize the divide of North and South in Gaskell s novel. A comparison of the films present two very different views of what Hitler deemed necessary for Germany. They each displayed propaganda in a way they re eye catching simply because of the raw footage. It took everything that we knew about pre WWII and corrected it, so that we knew the truth about how the people of Germany felt, and what they saw in those exact moments. As said previously, a convincing piece of propaganda shows the viewer hope, but also reality, and in the film, it looks anything but realistic. In Night and Fog it was an appropriate design the way the switched from color to black and white. I got two different meanings from this. 1) We live today in our present environment in a world filled with color. We don t go through hunger, torture and our dignities aren t taken from us. The black and white represents to me other people around the world which still today are going through similar times as these victims in this film went through. 2) The theme in on which the comparison is about the past and the present was very clear. The same pathways which were filled with the blood of the victims were now all buried under the ground. The color represented the present and the black and white represented the past. After examining the classic A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, the poem The Lesson of the Moth by Don Marquis, and The Life and Death of Shane McConkey by Tim Sohn , it is evident that it is possible to value something or someone more than your own life and doing so can be considered honorable. There is no joy in the only life he can live so he went to the one thing that brought joy and beauty in the world and died for that. They subscribe to a model of doctrinal theology, that when it comes to Biblical truths, for example, places greater value on the aspect of experience, more than the concept of reason. Wicomb s short stories are interwoven with political percepts, history and semiotics linking her two homes, Glasgow and Cape Town, as well as the different stories, together through a extensive network of interconnected identities and settings (Driver 145). By the juxtaposing of settings in a single period of time, Wicomb creates a unique social and domestic backdrop that reveals elements of the characters identity, and, inadvertently, elements of her own life. The main forms of identity are ethnicity, religion, and age. These all affect the way that people look at you and judge you. In Habibi, Liyana is judged by her age, religion, and ethnicity. This is also part of why moving to a different country is hard for Liyana; people in Jerusalem judge your identity differently. However, Liyana does not let the comments of others change her. This shows that many people discriminate and are mean to people of different cultures. Age is another part of Liyana s identity that she must accept in order to adapt in Jerusalem. During her time in the community, also considered as a cult , Kirby faced the challenges of identity change and loss as well as abandonment and isolation. When these fierce sea borne raiders rummaged and plundered European sea ports of their valuables and treasures. These Scandinavian inhabitants were known to most of the world as a barbaric group, when in reality, there style of attacking had more skill than the world had seen. They struck fear and intimidation into their victims and made the whole European seaboard quake in angst for their arrival. Not only did they want to inflict fear into Europe as well as raid them from their treasures, the Scandinavians were also looking to expand their kind to other parts of Europe due to the lack of land in Scandinavia. One of the first things most citizens of the world think of when you say Scandinavian is Vikings. However, this is not 100% accurate. The term Viking was not a ethnicity or group of people, it was a job description. It did not apply to women, children or slaves of the time, only the Scandinavian men. The Vikings were not illiterate, however, they were also not able to write letters and letters of things they partook in. They did something similar to other Germanic cultures and used a style of runic inscriptions. In the Viking society, their law was fairly straight forward. They took into account the crime committed, but also the worth of the victim before dealing out the punishment. Interestingly enough, however, individual rank also played a factor in this decision. Personal Narrative On Escape From Reality Escape From Reality Is it possible to get stuck on this island? my Mom asked our tour guide with a worried tone while disembarking a ship which took us to a peaceful, isolated, and small island in the Faroe Islands. • 36. Impact Of Ww2 On Australian Economy Australians at War World War II (WWII) made a significant impact in shaping modern Australia. This war contributed to social, political and technological developments throughout Australia and the world. SOCIAL DEVELOPMENTS WWII had a big impact on the social changes in Australia before and after the war. One of the reasons it had such an impact on Australia was due to the immigration policy, which was made to increase Australia s population. The immigration policy is a policy on legal migrants. Legal migrants who come to Australia under the migration act are non Australians who come to the country for work or other reasons without permission or people who overstay their visas. This enforces that those who come in the country without permission may be subject to mandatory immigration detention and may be deported from the country at any time, unless been given permission to stay in Australia. This policy has contributed to the multicultural society of Australia today. To this day, there in an estimated 50 000 people who have overstayed their visas, most of these people come from British nations. Those touching base by boat or different means without official classification as refugees are no longer granted permission outcast status on landing. For example, those from an Asian background are becoming a more familiar part of Australia s society today. Overseas migrant entries have assumed a vital part in changing the face of Australia. The current variety of migrants born in Australia include areas such as The United Kingdom, New Zealand, Italy, Vietnam, China, Greece, Germany, Philippines and India. Since the change in immigration policy in the late 1960s to one of non discrimination on race or ethnic background, there has been a significant change in the overseas sources of migrants, with settlers arriving from more diverse regions of the world. To this day, Australia s overseas born population consists of people who practise over 140 recognized ethnic groups, people who fluently speak over 90 different languages and people who believe in over 80 different religions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As population of this planet has grown, we have increasingly tapped deeper into our planets fresh water resources and are now finding less available when and where it is needed. Our available fresh water is static, there is essentially no more fresh water on the planet today than there was 2,000 years ago when the earth s human population was less than three percent its current size. The trend of population growth is quite obvious. According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the population of the world in 1955 was 2.8 billion; in the year 2014, the world s population increased to 7.207 billion. According to World Watch, the population is expected to reach 8.1 billion people by the year 2025. As population increases, so does demand for pure drinking water, but changes in social attitudes and behaviors could redirect our present course and possibly curb the global population growth. Social and economic trends in population growth appear to be changing. Our past can provide substantial insight into our future. Family planning services have had great success and produced dramatic results in reducing global population, thus reducing fresh water consumption. According the John Bongaarts, population has been reduced by an estimated 400 million people through the use of

Fire Station 141 is buzzing with life; everything is in calm and peaceful; when suddenly a loud screaming sound rings through the brick walls. All of the men in the station startle to attention and rush around in organized chaos. The shuffling of boots on the smooth concrete floors and ruffling of thick fire suits is drowned out by the resounding alarm. The men pile into the large red trucks and screech out of the station. The alarm becomes silent and the station is abandoned and the only sound it the news humming in the background. The men hardly fit in the small quarters of the truck. The smell of burnt rubber and gasoline fill the cramped space. The sirens atop the thick metal roof of the truck bounce back and forth on houses and cars nearby. Dark clouds start to form above the speeding truck and soon the rain is playing a soft beat on the roof. The cold weather creates a pale fog against the window. Everything starts to slow down and become faded, the dark night outside the window now is everywhere and a group of boys are playing baseball. The ball is a dirty cream color and is throwing off water as it spins through the air, then smack it hits a leather glove with an explosion of water up into a young boy s smiling face. The concept of resilience is closely associated with risk and suggests that at risk children and families are more likely to develop an adverse outcome or disorder than others, which includes poverty, unemployment, homelessness, poor health, single parenting and divorce, organisational, social, cohort and family line diversity. Given the conceptual complexities of resilience, it is important to take stock of the individual factors, family dynamics e.g. step families, adoption, fostering and environmental difficulties such as war, drought, cultural beliefs, which resilience develops. Such a conceptual framework is likely to provide a useful yet multidimensional conceptualisation of resilience. Focusing on these individual, familial, and environmental risk and protective factors, their influence on the landscape of reunification and re entry opens new avenues for exploration, which lead to more effective interventions for children and families (Rapoprt Rapoprot, 1982). Although protective and risk have often been used interchangeably in the literature, Rutter (1999) sees resilience as the attribute that characterise and structuralise the conceptual framework of protective perspective. The protective perspective emphasises the resources, assets, potentials, and capabilities of children, groups, families, and communities (Bernards, 1997). This approach also marks a definitive ... Canada has been well regarded with its attitude towards multiculturalism, establishing an Act that protects the rights of people who have different beliefs and the encouragement for all cultures to work together. While being the only country to have a policy such as the Multiculturalism Act, racism has been a part of Canadian history, including but not limited to the colonialism of Indigenous Peoples and the internment of Japanese Canadians. The effects of colonialism on indigenous culture and the treatment of Japanese Canadians are reflected in the novels Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson and Obasan by Joy Kogawa. The main characters of the novels, Lisamarie in Monkey Beach and Naomi in Obasan, both come to terms with the effects of growing up in minority communities in British Columbia, as well as discovering their own identities, by reflecting on their pasts during a time of family tragedies. Lisamarie struggles with accepting and understanding her spirituality in a family that mostly ignores and denies their connections to the spirituality of their ancestors, due to the effects of colonialism and residential schools. Naomi reflects on her family being removed from their homes and the racism that the Japanese faced after the Pearl Harbour attack. • 50. The Tragedy Of Sophocles Antigone The story in Antigone shows two things that Sophocles could be pointing which is important whether may be the family or authority. Readers could not tell whether Sophocles would be choosing which but most conclude that Sophocles could be siding with family as it talks much more about it than authority. In the mind of a reader, family is mostly likely the winner as Antigone cares her brother Polyneices, Antigone denies the rule of Creon, Creon values his son and his wife, and Sophocles might be making a point when he made family important in Antigone. In the story of Sophocles, Antigone consider both Eteocles and Polyneices equally even though both were killed each other. But even so, Antigone consider them both as brothers and they are still part of the family. In the play, Antigone point out that Eteocles is being buried with honors while Polyneices isn t: Antigone. Listen, Ismene: Creon buried our brother Eteocles With military honors, gave him a soldier s funeral, And it was right that he should; but Polyneices, Who fought as bravely and died as miserable, That say that Creon has sworn No one shall bury him, no one mourn for him, But his body must lie in the fields, a sweet treasure For carrion birds to find as they search for food.
