Finding False Memories Of The Mall
Texperiences.
Some people might argue that getting lost in the mall is too common of an experience to demonstrate
false memories. For this argument, Hyman et al. constructed an experiment to show the occurrence of
false memories in less that common childhood events including spilling punch at a wedding and a
sprinkler system going off a at grocery store. For one variation of this study, Hyman et al. implanted
the memory of an overnight hospitalization with a high fever, and possible ear infection. The
participants were told they were going to be asked about events from their childhood based on
information provided by their parents. They were then given the titles of the events (including the
false visit to the hospital) and asked to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some ideas in the field include looking at the response speed of the recollection of memories, and the
emotion felt when recalling the memory (Reisberg). A common assumption is that the confidence with
which memory is recalled could indicate its accuracy. However, there is very little association with
how sure someone is about the occurrence of an event and how accurate their recollection is. We are
often sure of our false memories.
Smith, Ellsworth, and Kassin explain this in their study on Eyewitness Accuracy and Confidence.
They note that most officials in court cases overwhelmingly believe confidence in eyewitness
testimony to be positively correlated with accuracy. To disprove this, they studied about 100
undergraduate students from Stanford University. They had the students watch a car accident,
participate in a filler task, and then answer questions about the car accident. They were asked to rate
the confidence on their answers on a scale of 1 (no clue) to 10 (absolutely sure). The researchers then
computed the correlation of accuracy and confidence and found the same conclusion as Reisberg
explained: confidence can not be solid an indicator of accuracy (Smith 358).
In fact, the more we are asked to recall a memory, the more confident we become, which is
unfortunate because it s easy to create a false memory. Let us take an

Spread Of Christianity Essay
Christianity began with the incarnation of Christ, He became a man. Then Christ was crucified and He
died. He died in the Roman Empire and since it was a cultural crossroad, many people heard of him.
After He died He came back to life, and He walked around for a couple days, and then He ascended
into heaven. Many people witnessed His death and many people witnessed Jesus after His
resurrection, and many were there to witness His ascension. The witnesses play a key role in the
beginning of the church. The beginning of era one was basically Christianity becoming a separate
religion from Judaism. Pentecost cost was another VERY important part in the spread of Christianity.
At the Pentecost people from everywhere came! People from the far north, the ... Show more content

The events included; the stoning of Stephen, the scattering of believers throughout Judea and Samaria,
and the conversion of Saul. Another important event that occurred in era one was when God lead Peter
and others to proclaim salvation through Christ to the Gentiles. After the stoning of Stephen, the
church of Jerusalem was heavily persecuted and many believers scattered all throughout Judea and
Samaria and they preached the word everywhere they went. Many of the believers planted churches
where ever they went. Paul was a key role in the spread of Christianity. Paul would stay in a large
cities, spreading the word until it reached the smaller parts of the region. He also built churches all
throughout the region, and stayed with them until they were able to be on their own. Many
missionaries of that time would spread the word by reaching Jews. They often went to Jewish
synagogues. Later in the era, it was more popular to hear/spread the gospel in private homes, rather
than in synagogues. Antioch was the first place where believers were first called Christians, and this
was important because it separated Christianity from

The Moral Philosophy Of Ethical Egoism

Research Paper
The Moral Philosophy of Ethical Egoism
Let him be the best of men, and let him be thought the worst; then he will have been put to the proof;
and we shall see whether he will be affected by the fear of infamy and its consequences. And let him
continue thus to the hour of death; being just and seeming to be unjust. When both have reached the
uttermost extreme, the one of justice and the other of injustice, let judgment be given which is the
happier of the two. Glaucon, from The Republic (Pojman, Vaughn, 464).
Every day there are children dying of starvation in poor countries all over the world. In more
prosperous countries people are afforded luxuries such as lavish cars and weekly movies at the
cinema. If asked, these people will tell you that we do, in fact, have a moral obligation to help the
children if we are in a position to do so. So why, do we choose to buy the luxury car? Why do we
spend enough to feed a small village on one trip to the cinema with family? It is because deep inside
we know that our primary concern is our own self interest; the pursuit of happiness. Ethical egoism at
first glance seems counter intuitive, however, upon deeper inspection we see that ethical egoism is the
moral philosophy that should be adopted if we wish to obtain the goal of happiness. Ethical egoism is
the ethical view that one ought to do whatever and only whatever is in one s own maximum interest,
benefit, advantage, or

The 2nd Vatican Council Essay
The 2nd Vatican Council
Starting with the First Council of Nicaea in 325 the Catholic Church established a tradition of
ecumenical Council meetings to help decide on and shape the future of the Church. The most recent
Council, called Vatican II, is considered to be both the largest ever in scope and also the most ground
breaking in the amount of change it yielded. The changes in doctrine, dogma and procedure they
enacted had major effects both inside and outside the Catholic Church and continue to today.
Before the Vatican II the Catholic Church was an aging dinosaur, still crippled by the Reformation and
unable to relate to contemporary man. It emerged from it a modern Church, tolerant and accepting of
other religions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That alone doubled the amount of documents created by the previous twenty councils combined.
Many were concerned that when the council officially began it would be so weighed down by the
breadth of its task that the bishops would be unable to make changes significant to the contemporary
man. That concern would soon be dispelled.
In recent times, the Curia had grown very confident in their authority over the rest of the Church s
bishops since the decree of papal infallibility made at the 1st Vatican Council. They expected the rest
of the church s leaders to arrive in Rome and essentially rubber stamp their decisions. However,
despite the Curia s attempts to keep it hidden there was a great deal of discontent in the church. That
was illustrated by the thousands of submittals that were sent to the church for possible inclusion in the
council.
On the first day of meetings during the first session in October 11th 1962 it became clear that real
introspection would be inevitable and that the Curia would not be placidly followed. Cardinal Lieneat
of France and Cardinal Frings of Germany took the first step by successful challenging the pre
selection of the members of the ten committees that would be in control the council voice. Once that
happened, the assembled leaders and the world at large knew that this would be more than a rubber
stamp council.
That first session lasted until December 8th and did not end with any documents approved or
consensus found. Of

Strategy Definition
Before the individual strategic changes are described and evaluated, it is necessary to fully understand
the definition of the term strategy and strategic management.
The flame of competition has changed from he smokey yellow to intense white heat. For companies to
survive and prosper they will have to have a vision, a mission and strategy (Johnson, 2001). The use
of strategy in this well known quote from the Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Peter Elwood shows the
importance strategic decisions plan in the modern era for organisations. To supplement this, strategy is
theoretically defined as the direction and scope of an organisation over the long term, which achieves
advantages in a changing environment through its configuration of resources and competences with
the aim of fulfilling stakeholder expectations (Johnson et al., 2005). According to this definition, the

Friendship Is A Strange Concept
Friendship is a strange concept. You meet someone and eventually, after talking to them and being
around them more you feel more comfortable calling them a friend opposed to an acquaintance.
However, not just anyone can be a friend and there are different types of friendships. According to
Aristotle there are three different types of friendships and only one of them is the real deal. The
Epicureans would view friendship as being something very important in life. To me, friendship is both
of these views put together with a few changes here and there.
To begin, Aristotle believed that there are three types of friendship. One of those three is a utility
friendship. This friendship is based only on one person s own good, and it is only a ... Show more

The first people that come to mind when I think of this type of friendship is my soccer team from high
school. The girls and I shared similar interests which was evident since we were on the soccer team
together. We were all determined to win the games we played and had fun doing it. Soccer brought us
together and brought out our silly side since we let loose in practice. However, once the season was
over most of us stopped talking as often and we just waved hello or goodbye to each other nothing
more, and nothing less.
The Third and final type of friendship that Aristotle described is an authentic friendship. This type of
friendship is based on a person s character. It is rare, long lasting, and the end result of it is we become
better people. I have had the pleasure of coming by authentic friendship. My best friend Joceline and I
have known each other for six years. She is funny, smart, sarcastic, loud, fun, and caring. We met
through being on the high school soccer team together our freshman year. She was painfully shy and
didn t want to have anything to do with anyone. However, I managed to break her out of her shell, and
she managed to help me build my confidence as well as to become more open minded.
Over all Aristotle believed that friendships help us personally, and as citizens because they help us live
together and find the common good in on in another and we get pleasure out of it. Also he believed

Theory Of Planned Behavior Essay
The main objective of the paper is to examine Azjen s theory of planned behavior based on past
research that examined what influences one s intention to do things based on their beliefs, attitudes,
subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. In a prospective British study conducted by
Higgins and Conner in 2001, they researched the ability of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to
predict smoking intentions and behavior in adolescents. A total of 162 Subjects (11 12 years old) were
randomly selected from different schools across the region out of the 347 initially recruited. The
research was done over a period of 8 weeks and students were asked to complete a self reported
questionnaire at the beginning and the end of the study period. Their respective schools verified
information provided by the student. The TPB questionnaires assessed behavioral intentions, attitudes,
subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. The study suggested that intentions resulted in a
small reduction in smoking and intent to smoke for the study group compared to the control group.
Nevertheless, intentions increased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

included 103 smoking students (average age of 24.6years with an 8 years smoking experience).
Participants were asked to fill out a TPB questionnaire at the beginning and were contacted after 4
months to fill out a follow up questionnaire. The questions consisted of intention to quit, attitudes
towards quitting, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. The result suggested that quitting
behavior are linked with intentions as the people with stronger intentions to quit made more plans to
quit smoking. Therefore, even though TPB is important in motivating smokers to quit, attitude and
norms are more important in motivating them and also stopping other addictive

Irony In Oscar Wilde s Quot Essay
Wilde comments on the honesty of the aristocracy of Victorian society through his motif of lies and
deceit while also adding his usual comedic touch. The entire play functions around lies created to
either get out of events like dinner with Algernon s Aunt or get girls like Cecily. Jack jokingly
comments that truth isn t the sort of thing one tells a nice sweet refined girl (Greenblatt 1711).
Algernon adds irony to the play when he brings up false impressions, My dear Algy, you talk exactly
as if you were a dentist. It is very vulgar to talk like a dentist when one isn t a dentist after he has just
held his friends case captive, knowing he was running frantic over it. Truth shows up in a negative
light for the aristocracy again when Algernon says the truth is rarely pure and never simple
(Greenblatt 1703). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps, one of the greatest takeaways is that the upper class in the play walks away from their
numerous lies and games of deceit with no consequence. Nor do they seem to show remorse or regret
for the lies they ve told. Both Algernon and Jack get the girls they dream of, because the luxuries and
financial status of the elite usually provide them with what they want. Instead of suffering the normal
consequences of deceit, Wilde uses simple self centeredness as Jack s escape by way of Gwendolyn s
instantaneous verdict that Jack probably lied about his name as an excuse to see her in town more
often. In the play, lies become another trivial issue while being manipulated successfully to achieve
happiness for oneself. Coupled with vanity and conceit, the attitude of the elite in The Importance of
Being Earnest imitates the attitudes of the vain Victorian aristocracy during Wilde s

Protagonists looking for Happiness in Death of a...
Often having happiness is finding the key to life. Happiness is the ability to make one s life full of joy
and success. In the Death of a Salesman , The Great Gatsby , and The Devil s Advocate , the
protagonists in the movies seem to yearn for happiness and success in their lives. Although success
may be the ultimate goal to achieving happiness, it does not always lead us there. There are many
obstacles people have to overcome, and sometimes happiness is not enough for some people. It is why
I believe more people should enjoy life and live it to the fullest extent as possible. Happiness allows
people to live their lives and look at the good despite all their flaws and as they are happy they look

Yes, Gatsby experiences happiness to a certain extent, but when his life ends suddenly, I think he is
unhappy and does not have everything he wanted out of life. The American Dream meant nothing if he
was not with the love of his life. I like how Gatsby overcomes many obstacles to be successful but he
is not happy like a typical person should be. I think Gatsby seems to have regretted having his fortune
because of the obstacles he faced in being happy. The key to life in my opinion is being happy. In the
The Devil s Advocate , I think the protagonist Keanu yearns for happiness. He is an attorney seeking a
victory for a case which he knows is immorally wrong. Although this may be wrong, the protagonist
seems to seek happiness, and is destined to going in the wrong path. He is choosing the path of evil to
get what he wants, and in doing so he meets the devil who is the antagonist and the person who wants
to lead Keanu in the wrong direction. In my opinion the aforementioned devil represents immorality,
evil, money, power, success, getting what you want no matter what and happiness among others.
These are all qualities that people want and in doing so it takes time and good fortune to make it
happen. The devil intrigues many people, where he wants to influence them in making this decision to
be on his side and making all this happen in an instant. It is the path Keanu

U.s. Foreign Policy During The Middle East
For over the last two decades the Middle East has gradually gathered attention and has come to the
forefront of U.S. foreign policy. The focus on this region began primarily after the attacks on the two
World Trade Center s in New York City on September 11th, 2001. Iraq was the initial target in the
response to the devastating tragedy. This response involved an indefinite occupation with the intention
of eliminating weapons of mass destruction , with intelligence under the Bush Administration
allegedly confirming their existence. As this undeclared war on Iraq took place, U.S. foreign policy
was initiated. It consisted of bringing down an authoritarian regime and establishing democracy within
the state of Iraq, along with decimating any potential threats to the U.S. homeland. The major threat
lying with terrorist organizations in the region such as Al Qaeda, who were to blame for the 9/11
attacks on U.S. soil. Eventually the deployment of troops into Iraq was left without any particular
cause, due to the revelation that Saddam Hussein s regime had no possession of any nuclear weapons.
And as U.S. troops struggled to figure out exactly what they were fighting for, an insurgency began to
emerge. Is the U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East the cause of insurgency in the region along with
the eventual formation of militant groups such as ISIS? The policies carried out by the United States
consisted of establishing order and democracy in a state while also preventing any

Reflection About My Writing Course
At the end of this course, I feel that a lot has improved with my writing. When I first started this

writing without thinking of how to connect my thoughts. After completing numerous writing
assignments, I am fully confident with my ability to have a paper that flows. Another thing that I
struggled with was organization. Although I still have a lot of improvement to make, I think this
aspect of my writing has improved. One of the things that helped me immensely was creating an

The Pros And Cons Of Euroscepticism
Although contestation of the European integration process has been present since its inception; such
opposition has traditionally been marginal and in the minority. The term Eurosceptic means in the
broadest understanding of the term being opposed to increasing the powers of the European Union,
which is the much simpler definition of a very complicated phenomenon.
It can be traced back to British political discourse where it originated in the mid 1980s to describe
positions and opinions in the debates concerning European integration. Euroscepticism as a
phenomenon truly gained momentum with the Maastricht Treaty (1992). Indeed, before 1992,
opposition was very peripheral or temporary among the elites (Leconte 2010; Lindberg and

types of Public Euroscepticism which are as follows: economic, democratic, sovereignty driven and
socio political. The second trend in research concentrates on determining the factors that instigate anti
EU attitudes. Researchers commonly make an argument for the impact of ideology and strategies of
political parties as a probable cause.
Mudde and the School of North Carolina (2011) argue that party politics traditions, especially the
division between parties and their position towards European integration are at the core of Eurosceptic
sentiments. The Sussex School puts forward evidences that the reasons are linked to nation specific
characteristics such as the electoral system, the structure of the party system, etc. Even though there is
no interaction between the two schools, recent research shows that both approach are concomitant

We Were Soldiers vs. Platoon
After watching both of these films I noticed how combat was portrayed in the movie Platoon was
different from the movie we were soldiers In the movie we were soldiers it was portrayed around
several different officers it was focused on them and how they carried out their mission and how they
took care of their men also they showed how on a platoon level and squad level were able to follow
the battalion commander on the battlefield some example of the officers such as Lieutenant Colonel
Hal Moore, Sergeant Major Basil L. Plumley EST. However you tend to lose track of the different
officers such as Lt. Herrick that charged up the hill and leads his platoon after a scout and then got

Ahn is every bit as quick thinking as Moore and shares his ability to anticipate the other sides actions.
Pepper s character is particularly important; he mirrors many of those in the audience as he enters
bright eyed but is quickly shocked and horrified by the carnage he witnesses first hand and ultimately
feels too overwhelmed to believe he can ever do justice to Moore and his men. It is also significant
that Colonel Ahn is never demonized; we see both he and Moore praying, we see both murmuring
encouragement to their wounded and weary men, and in one scene they both gaze thoughtfully up at
the moon.
In the movie Platoon there are three principal characters are Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen), the young
college dropout, who s the film s hesitant mouthpiece, and the two sergeants who have effectively split
the platoon between them. They are Barnes (Tom Berenger), a seriously out of control, life sized, clay
footed version of the fighting machine Sylvester Stallone glorifies in Rambo, and Elias (Willem
Dafoe), a man no less tough than Barnes, but whose tours of duty have transformed him into a soft
spoken, almost embarrassed prophet of doom.
Platoon is semi autobiographical. Stone, who served as an

Gonorrhoeae
Virulence of N. gonorrhoeae is associated with pili, which demonstrate a crucial function in the
forming of the initial attachment to the host cell. Pili twitching motility assist the pathogen in its
upstream migration of the non motile gonococci, which allows for the colonization and ascendance to
the mucosal surfaces. CD46 also plays an important role as it is a complement regulatory protein and
can be associated with having properties of a membrane cofactor receptor. CD46 is specific to
humans, and is expressed by all nucleated cells of trans membrane proteins. CD46 has been identified
as having a receptor for gonococcal pilus. N. Gonorrhoeae posse piliated gonococci that adhere to a
host by synthesis of dense microcoloniess on the cell s surface. The Opa proteins as well as
lipopolysaccharides bind closely through cell surface receptor epithelial host, subsequently allowing
bacterial subjugation and trancytosis of the epithelial cell host. ... Show more content on

The Third Man Sparknotes
The Third Man published in 1949 by Graham Green is a fascinating book. Graham Green (1904 1991)
was said to be one of the greatest novelists of the twentieth century, writing everything from short
stories, autobiographies, to children s books. What I found most interesting about the book was that
the whole story is told from the viewpoint of Major Calloway and not from Rollo Martins. This is
determined from the beginning of the book that Rollo Martins, a broke writer from London, has been
presented as a man who is loyal and believes that friendship is almost like a marriage. It is evident
when he arrives at the cemetery in Vienna and is told by Calloway that the body being buried is his
best friend from childhood, Harry Lime. Rollo Martins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Martins at that point decides to go home and then tell Calloway: I ll be getting back to England
(Greene 110). Martins gained some hope from an inspiration to investigate accusations to find out if
they were true when he believed he saw a figure that resembled Lime. Later in the book, Martins set
up a meeting with Lime and hearing Lime s own confession, Martins belief and loyalty in his best
friend disappeared completely because Lime s disregard for human life produces a sad disappoint for
Martins. Lime won t stop committing penicillin racketeering, so Martins thinks it s up to him to do
something to stop it. This fact brings evidence in showing that Martins opinion of humanism must be
placed over friendship. He decides to tell Calloway that he will provide assistance to the police to help
arrest Lime. By making this decision and the fact that Martins manages to kill Lime, Greene,
undoubtedly, wanted to convey that no matter how strong a friendship may be, that it means very little
compared to the value of human life. Last, it is interesting to look at the use of viewpoint used to help
express the theme of the book The Third Man as perceived through Calloway s point of view. By
using Calloway s point of view, Greene interprets the theme through the viewpoint

Examples Of Cultural Differences In The United States
In the United States of America, there are a lot of cultural differences compared to other countries.
These cultural differences could vary from different types of healthcare provided by their government,
choice of food, and attitude. It has been about fifteen years now that I have lived in the United States
of America and I have noticed a lot of cultural differences that the US has the is a lot different to other
countries around the world. I have noticed these cultural differences by exposing myself to the public.

One in seven Americans has no health insurance, and tens of millions of others have incomplete

If U.S. spending could be held to the Canadian percentage, the savings would amount to more than
$100 billion a year (Fuchs and Hahn, 1990). Canada has a health care that all residents are provided

The Use of Art by Those in Power
Art has more meaning behind it than just being a picture; it can function in society by symbolizing
power. In this essay I am going to discuss in what ways art communicates power and help to manage
nations and empires.
The use of art as a tool for those in power started in different times and also in different cultures. An
ancient gravesite near Stonehenge revealed the grave of the Amesbury Arche in 2002 his grave was
different to those previously found near the site, What made him interesting was the gold hair tresses,
which are the oldest cast of gold in Britain, and the fact that he was a from the region that is now
Germany. The treasures in his grave show a man of status. Art for personal appearance, like these hair
clasps, mad him have a higher status then his peers. This gold, created the image of a leader. So it was
learned early on in human history that art as personal appearance enhanced your status.
As time progressed, in other parts of the ancient world art became a political tool; kings competed for
more dazzling adornments for their appearances. As kingdoms began to become bigger the kings
started to face communication issues and Darius the Great of Persia was one of them, he ruled over 20
nations from Persepolis. As many people from his nation could not read, Darius then had stone reliefs
created that combined styles from all over the empire, these carvings showed each nation bring
tributes to their king. These cravings showed a sign of respect and these

Something Android can t promise their customers.
Apple has been chasing the functionality of Android for the longest time, but ever since Apple

enables them to be more unique and clean. Even though Apple is a better more updated company,

When Apple first released the first iPhone is had a basic set up for their users to understand the

Latin American Revolutions And The Colonization Of Latin...
The struggle of human society has always been about maintaining power. During the Age of
Exploration, conquistadors and voyagers traveled across the world in search of new land, new people,
and more importantly, new sources of bullion. Explorers like Pizarro and Cortés claimed the lands of
ancient civilizations as colonies, ravaging the natives with disease and battle. The leading colonizers,
primarily France, Spain, and Portugal, controlled every aspect of life for the Americanos. During this
time, the Enlightenment was occurring in Europe. Writers like Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, and
Rousseau inspired revolutions with ideas of natural rights, toleration, separation of powers, and
equality. These philosophers inspired revolution, or uprising against a mother country, in the United
States, France, and eventually Latin America. The main influences on the Latin American rebellions
were the Enlightenment ideas of of equality, self rule, and freedom. During the colonization of Latin
America, a majority of Americanos faced discrimination and unjust social hierarchies. At the top were
the peninsulares, composed of the richest citizens, bureaucrats, and religious officials. The creoles
followed them, and were also wealthy. However, the creoles held less powerful positions in society
and were born in the Americas. After that were the mestizos (a mix of Native American and Spanish),
mulattoes (a mix of white and black), natives, free blacks, and finally slaves. Each group

Zeolite Based Sorbent Coated with Iron for Advanced Oxidation of Trace Organics in Treated
Wastewater
Abstract
Zeolite with an iron loading of 0.11% was used in a set of experiments to determine the possibility of
using zeolite in conjunction with Fenton s reagents in order to destroy p Cresol in an aqueous solution.
The results were compared to a homogenous system at a pH of 2.5 using iron salt with an equivalent
iron concentration of iron amended zeolite and the rate of degradation in the heterogeneous system
using the iron amended zeolite was found to be half. The area of interest would be to use this zeolite at
neutral pH, and it was found that the rate of degradation using the iron amended ... Show more content

Iron (II) reacts with hydrogen peroxide to produce a hydroxyl radical and is oxidized to Iron (III).
Upon decomposition of a second hydrogen peroxide molecule, a superoxide radical is produced and
Iron (III) is reduced back to Iron (II). The contaminants are primarily destroyed by the hydroxide
radical, as it is highly reactive and oxidative (2). As iron precipitates above a pH of 3, the reaction
halts, as the iron ions are not available to participate in this reaction. This renders the use of Fenton s
Reagents impractical, as it would require large amounts of acid to lower the pH to the range required
for this reaction. It would also require large amounts of base to raise the pH to a permissible value
required for discharge. This introduces large costs, and makes the process cost prohibitive. In order to
overcome this limitation, it was found that iron amended zeolites could be used to destroy chemicals
in water at nearly neutral pH (3).
Figure 1. Fenton s Reaction producing radicals while cycling iron.
Zeolites are materials composed of silica and alumina that contain micropores capable of adsorbing
chemical compounds. Zeolites are employed primarily to sorb contaminants from water and then
shipped off site. The zeolite must then be regenerated by a thermal process or through the use of an
advanced oxidation process, such as Fenton s Reagent. By varying the

  • 2. Finding False Memories Of The Mall Texperiences. Some people might argue that getting lost in the mall is too common of an experience to demonstrate false memories. For this argument, Hyman et al. constructed an experiment to show the occurrence of false memories in less that common childhood events including spilling punch at a wedding and a sprinkler system going off a at grocery store. For one variation of this study, Hyman et al. implanted the memory of an overnight hospitalization with a high fever, and possible ear infection. The participants were told they were going to be asked about events from their childhood based on information provided by their parents. They were then given the titles of the events (including the false visit to the hospital) and asked to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some ideas in the field include looking at the response speed of the recollection of memories, and the emotion felt when recalling the memory (Reisberg). A common assumption is that the confidence with which memory is recalled could indicate its accuracy. However, there is very little association with how sure someone is about the occurrence of an event and how accurate their recollection is. We are often sure of our false memories. Smith, Ellsworth, and Kassin explain this in their study on Eyewitness Accuracy and Confidence. They note that most officials in court cases overwhelmingly believe confidence in eyewitness testimony to be positively correlated with accuracy. To disprove this, they studied about 100 undergraduate students from Stanford University. They had the students watch a car accident, participate in a filler task, and then answer questions about the car accident. They were asked to rate the confidence on their answers on a scale of 1 (no clue) to 10 (absolutely sure). The researchers then computed the correlation of accuracy and confidence and found the same conclusion as Reisberg explained: confidence can not be solid an indicator of accuracy (Smith 358). In fact, the more we are asked to recall a memory, the more confident we become, which is unfortunate because it s easy to create a false memory. Let us take an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Spread Of Christianity Essay Christianity began with the incarnation of Christ, He became a man. Then Christ was crucified and He died. He died in the Roman Empire and since it was a cultural crossroad, many people heard of him. After He died He came back to life, and He walked around for a couple days, and then He ascended into heaven. Many people witnessed His death and many people witnessed Jesus after His resurrection, and many were there to witness His ascension. The witnesses play a key role in the beginning of the church. The beginning of era one was basically Christianity becoming a separate religion from Judaism. Pentecost cost was another VERY important part in the spread of Christianity. At the Pentecost people from everywhere came! People from the far north, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The events included; the stoning of Stephen, the scattering of believers throughout Judea and Samaria, and the conversion of Saul. Another important event that occurred in era one was when God lead Peter and others to proclaim salvation through Christ to the Gentiles. After the stoning of Stephen, the church of Jerusalem was heavily persecuted and many believers scattered all throughout Judea and Samaria and they preached the word everywhere they went. Many of the believers planted churches where ever they went. Paul was a key role in the spread of Christianity. Paul would stay in a large cities, spreading the word until it reached the smaller parts of the region. He also built churches all throughout the region, and stayed with them until they were able to be on their own. Many missionaries of that time would spread the word by reaching Jews. They often went to Jewish synagogues. Later in the era, it was more popular to hear/spread the gospel in private homes, rather than in synagogues. Antioch was the first place where believers were first called Christians, and this was important because it separated Christianity from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Moral Philosophy Of Ethical Egoism Timothy Walter PHI101 5:45PM Research Paper The Moral Philosophy of Ethical Egoism Let him be the best of men, and let him be thought the worst; then he will have been put to the proof; and we shall see whether he will be affected by the fear of infamy and its consequences. And let him continue thus to the hour of death; being just and seeming to be unjust. When both have reached the uttermost extreme, the one of justice and the other of injustice, let judgment be given which is the happier of the two. Glaucon, from The Republic (Pojman, Vaughn, 464). Every day there are children dying of starvation in poor countries all over the world. In more prosperous countries people are afforded luxuries such as lavish cars and weekly movies at the cinema. If asked, these people will tell you that we do, in fact, have a moral obligation to help the children if we are in a position to do so. So why, do we choose to buy the luxury car? Why do we spend enough to feed a small village on one trip to the cinema with family? It is because deep inside we know that our primary concern is our own self interest; the pursuit of happiness. Ethical egoism at first glance seems counter intuitive, however, upon deeper inspection we see that ethical egoism is the moral philosophy that should be adopted if we wish to obtain the goal of happiness. Ethical egoism is the ethical view that one ought to do whatever and only whatever is in one s own maximum interest, benefit, advantage, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The 2nd Vatican Council Essay The 2nd Vatican Council Starting with the First Council of Nicaea in 325 the Catholic Church established a tradition of ecumenical Council meetings to help decide on and shape the future of the Church. The most recent Council, called Vatican II, is considered to be both the largest ever in scope and also the most ground breaking in the amount of change it yielded. The changes in doctrine, dogma and procedure they enacted had major effects both inside and outside the Catholic Church and continue to today. Before the Vatican II the Catholic Church was an aging dinosaur, still crippled by the Reformation and unable to relate to contemporary man. It emerged from it a modern Church, tolerant and accepting of other religions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That alone doubled the amount of documents created by the previous twenty councils combined. Many were concerned that when the council officially began it would be so weighed down by the breadth of its task that the bishops would be unable to make changes significant to the contemporary man. That concern would soon be dispelled. In recent times, the Curia had grown very confident in their authority over the rest of the Church s bishops since the decree of papal infallibility made at the 1st Vatican Council. They expected the rest of the church s leaders to arrive in Rome and essentially rubber stamp their decisions. However, despite the Curia s attempts to keep it hidden there was a great deal of discontent in the church. That was illustrated by the thousands of submittals that were sent to the church for possible inclusion in the council. On the first day of meetings during the first session in October 11th 1962 it became clear that real introspection would be inevitable and that the Curia would not be placidly followed. Cardinal Lieneat of France and Cardinal Frings of Germany took the first step by successful challenging the pre selection of the members of the ten committees that would be in control the council voice. Once that happened, the assembled leaders and the world at large knew that this would be more than a rubber stamp council. That first session lasted until December 8th and did not end with any documents approved or consensus found. Of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This strategic decision will also be discussed in more detail later in this report. As a final significant event on the company timeline, in November 2009 it was announced Marc Bolland would take over as Executive Chairman from Stuart Rose in early 2010. M amp;S outlined their strategic plan between 2010 and 2015 and thus the strategy changes chosen in this report will partly follow this. (Source: M amp;S Annual Report, 2011) Strategy Definition Before the individual strategic changes are described and evaluated, it is necessary to fully understand the definition of the term strategy and strategic management. The flame of competition has changed from he smokey yellow to intense white heat. For companies to survive and prosper they will have to have a vision, a mission and strategy (Johnson, 2001). The use of strategy in this well known quote from the Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Peter Elwood shows the importance strategic decisions plan in the modern era for organisations. To supplement this, strategy is theoretically defined as the direction and scope of an organisation over the long term, which achieves advantages in a changing environment through its configuration of resources and competences with the aim of fulfilling stakeholder expectations (Johnson et al., 2005). • 8. Friendship Is A Strange Concept Friendship is a strange concept. You meet someone and eventually, after talking to them and being around them more you feel more comfortable calling them a friend opposed to an acquaintance. However, not just anyone can be a friend and there are different types of friendships. According to Aristotle there are three different types of friendships and only one of them is the real deal. The Epicureans would view friendship as being something very important in life. To me, friendship is both of these views put together with a few changes here and there. To begin, Aristotle believed that there are three types of friendship. One of those three is a utility friendship. This friendship is based only on one person s own good, and it is only a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first people that come to mind when I think of this type of friendship is my soccer team from high school. The girls and I shared similar interests which was evident since we were on the soccer team together. We were all determined to win the games we played and had fun doing it. Soccer brought us together and brought out our silly side since we let loose in practice. However, once the season was over most of us stopped talking as often and we just waved hello or goodbye to each other nothing more, and nothing less. The Third and final type of friendship that Aristotle described is an authentic friendship. This type of friendship is based on a person s character. It is rare, long lasting, and the end result of it is we become better people. I have had the pleasure of coming by authentic friendship. My best friend Joceline and I have known each other for six years. She is funny, smart, sarcastic, loud, fun, and caring. We met through being on the high school soccer team together our freshman year. She was painfully shy and didn t want to have anything to do with anyone. However, I managed to break her out of her shell, and she managed to help me build my confidence as well as to become more open minded. Over all Aristotle believed that friendships help us personally, and as citizens because they help us live together and find the common good in on in another and we get pleasure out of it. Theory Of Planned Behavior Essay The main objective of the paper is to examine Azjen s theory of planned behavior based on past research that examined what influences one s intention to do things based on their beliefs, attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. In a prospective British study conducted by Higgins and Conner in 2001, they researched the ability of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to predict smoking intentions and behavior in adolescents. A total of 162 Subjects (11 12 years old) were randomly selected from different schools across the region out of the 347 initially recruited. The research was done over a period of 8 weeks and students were asked to complete a self reported questionnaire at the beginning and the end of the study period. Their respective schools verified information provided by the student. The TPB questionnaires assessed behavioral intentions, attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. The study suggested that intentions resulted in a small reduction in smoking and intent to smoke for the study group compared to the control group. Nevertheless, intentions increased ... • 10. Irony In Oscar Wilde s Quot Essay Wilde comments on the honesty of the aristocracy of Victorian society through his motif of lies and deceit while also adding his usual comedic touch. The entire play functions around lies created to either get out of events like dinner with Algernon s Aunt or get girls like Cecily. Jack jokingly comments that truth isn t the sort of thing one tells a nice sweet refined girl (Greenblatt 1711). Algernon adds irony to the play when he brings up false impressions, My dear Algy, you talk exactly as if you were a dentist. It is very vulgar to talk like a dentist when one isn t a dentist after he has just held his friends case captive, knowing he was running frantic over it. Truth shows up in a negative light for the aristocracy again when Algernon says the truth is rarely pure and never simple (Greenblatt 1703). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps, one of the greatest takeaways is that the upper class in the play walks away from their numerous lies and games of deceit with no consequence. Nor do they seem to show remorse or regret for the lies they ve told. Both Algernon and Jack get the girls they dream of, because the luxuries and financial status of the elite usually provide them with what they want. Instead of suffering the normal consequences of deceit, Wilde uses simple self centeredness as Jack s escape by way of Gwendolyn s instantaneous verdict that Jack probably lied about his name as an excuse to see her in town more often. In the play, lies become another trivial issue while being manipulated successfully to achieve happiness for oneself. In the Death of a Salesman , The Great Gatsby , and The Devil s Advocate , the protagonists in the movies seem to yearn for happiness and success in their lives. Although success may be the ultimate goal to achieving happiness, it does not always lead us there. There are many obstacles people have to overcome, and sometimes happiness is not enough for some people. It is why I believe more people should enjoy life and live it to the fullest extent as possible. Happiness allows people to live their lives and look at the good despite all their flaws and as they are happy they look back at what it took for them to achieve ... Yes, Gatsby experiences happiness to a certain extent, but when his life ends suddenly, I think he is unhappy and does not have everything he wanted out of life. The American Dream meant nothing if he was not with the love of his life. I like how Gatsby overcomes many obstacles to be successful but he is not happy like a typical person should be. I think Gatsby seems to have regretted having his fortune because of the obstacles he faced in being happy. The key to life in my opinion is being happy. In the The Devil s Advocate , I think the protagonist Keanu yearns for happiness. He is an attorney seeking a victory for a case which he knows is immorally wrong. Although this may be wrong, the protagonist seems to seek happiness, and is destined to going in the wrong path. He is choosing the path of evil to get what he wants, and in doing so he meets the devil who is the antagonist and the person who wants to lead Keanu in the wrong direction. In my opinion the aforementioned devil represents immorality, evil, money, power, success, getting what you want no matter what and happiness among others. These are all qualities that people want and in doing so it takes time and good fortune to make it happen. The devil intrigues many people, where he wants to influence them in making this decision to be on his side and making all this happen in an instant. It is the path Keanu ... • 12. U.s. Foreign Policy During The Middle East For over the last two decades the Middle East has gradually gathered attention and has come to the forefront of U.S. foreign policy. The focus on this region began primarily after the attacks on the two World Trade Center s in New York City on September 11th, 2001. Iraq was the initial target in the response to the devastating tragedy. This response involved an indefinite occupation with the intention of eliminating weapons of mass destruction , with intelligence under the Bush Administration allegedly confirming their existence. As this undeclared war on Iraq took place, U.S. foreign policy was initiated. It consisted of bringing down an authoritarian regime and establishing democracy within the state of Iraq, along with decimating any potential threats to the U.S. homeland. The major threat lying with terrorist organizations in the region such as Al Qaeda, who were to blame for the 9/11 attacks on U.S. soil. Eventually the deployment of troops into Iraq was left without any particular cause, due to the revelation that Saddam Hussein s regime had no possession of any nuclear weapons. And as U.S. troops struggled to figure out exactly what they were fighting for, an insurgency began to emerge. It can be traced back to British political discourse where it originated in the mid 1980s to describe positions and opinions in the debates concerning European integration. Graham Green (1904 1991) was said to be one of the greatest novelists of the twentieth century, writing everything from short stories, autobiographies, to children s books. What I found most interesting about the book was that the whole story is told from the viewpoint of Major Calloway and not from Rollo Martins. This is determined from the beginning of the book that Rollo Martins, a broke writer from London, has been presented as a man who is loyal and believes that friendship is almost like a marriage. It is evident when he arrives at the cemetery in Vienna and is told by Calloway that the body being buried is his best friend from childhood, Harry Lime. Rollo Martins ... Martins gained some hope from an inspiration to investigate accusations to find out if they were true when he believed he saw a figure that resembled Lime. Later in the book, Martins set up a meeting with Lime and hearing Lime s own confession, Martins belief and loyalty in his best friend disappeared completely because Lime s disregard for human life produces a sad disappoint for Martins. Lime won t stop committing penicillin racketeering, so Martins thinks it s up to him to do something to stop it. This fact brings evidence in showing that Martins opinion of humanism must be placed over friendship. He decides to tell Calloway that he will provide assistance to the police to help arrest Lime. By making this decision and the fact that Martins manages to kill Lime, Greene, undoubtedly, wanted to convey that no matter how strong a friendship may be, that it means very little compared to the value of human life. Last, it is interesting to look at the use of viewpoint used to help express the theme of the book The Third Man as perceived through Calloway s point of view. In this essay I am going to discuss in what ways art communicates power and help to manage nations and empires. The use of art as a tool for those in power started in different times and also in different cultures. An ancient gravesite near Stonehenge revealed the grave of the Amesbury Arche in 2002 his grave was different to those previously found near the site, What made him interesting was the gold hair tresses, which are the oldest cast of gold in Britain, and the fact that he was a from the region that is now Germany. The treasures in his grave show a man of status. Art for personal appearance, like these hair clasps, mad him have a higher status then his peers. This gold, created the image of a leader. So it was learned early on in human history that art as personal appearance enhanced your status. As time progressed, in other parts of the ancient world art became a political tool; kings competed for more dazzling adornments for their appearances. As kingdoms began to become bigger the kings started to face communication issues and Darius the Great of Persia was one of them, he ruled over 20 nations from Persepolis. • 33. Latin American Revolutions And The Colonization Of Latin... The struggle of human society has always been about maintaining power. During the Age of Exploration, conquistadors and voyagers traveled across the world in search of new land, new people, and more importantly, new sources of bullion. Explorers like Pizarro and Cortés claimed the lands of ancient civilizations as colonies, ravaging the natives with disease and battle. The leading colonizers, primarily France, Spain, and Portugal, controlled every aspect of life for the Americanos. During this time, the Enlightenment was occurring in Europe. Writers like Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Rousseau inspired revolutions with ideas of natural rights, toleration, separation of powers, and equality. These philosophers inspired revolution, or uprising against a mother country, in the United States, France, and eventually Latin America. The main influences on the Latin American rebellions were the Enlightenment ideas of of equality, self rule, and freedom. During the colonization of Latin America, a majority of Americanos faced discrimination and unjust social hierarchies. At the top were the peninsulares, composed of the richest citizens, bureaucrats, and religious officials. The creoles followed them, and were also wealthy. However, the creoles held less powerful positions in society and were born in the Americas. After that were the mestizos (a mix of Native American and Spanish), mulattoes (a mix of white and black), natives, free blacks, and finally slaves. Each group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Zeolite Based Sorbent Coated With Iron For Advanced... Matthew Potzler CHEE 569B Term Project Zeolite Based Sorbent Coated with Iron for Advanced Oxidation of Trace Organics in Treated Wastewater Abstract Zeolite with an iron loading of 0.11% was used in a set of experiments to determine the possibility of using zeolite in conjunction with Fenton s reagents in order to destroy p Cresol in an aqueous solution. The results were compared to a homogenous system at a pH of 2.5 using iron salt with an equivalent iron concentration of iron amended zeolite and the rate of degradation in the heterogeneous system using the iron amended zeolite was found to be half. The area of interest would be to use this zeolite at neutral pH, and it was found that the rate of degradation using the iron amended ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Iron (II) reacts with hydrogen peroxide to produce a hydroxyl radical and is oxidized to Iron (III). Upon decomposition of a second hydrogen peroxide molecule, a superoxide radical is produced and Iron (III) is reduced back to Iron (II). The contaminants are primarily destroyed by the hydroxide radical, as it is highly reactive and oxidative (2). As iron precipitates above a pH of 3, the reaction halts, as the iron ions are not available to participate in this reaction. This renders the use of Fenton s Reagents impractical, as it would require large amounts of acid to lower the pH to the range required for this reaction. It would also require large amounts of base to raise the pH to a permissible value required for discharge. This introduces large costs, and makes the process cost prohibitive. In order to overcome this limitation, it was found that iron amended zeolites could be used to destroy chemicals in water at nearly neutral pH (3). Figure 1. Fenton s Reaction producing radicals while cycling iron. Zeolites are materials composed of silica and alumina that contain micropores capable of adsorbing chemical compounds. Zeolites are employed primarily to sorb contaminants from water and then shipped off site. The zeolite must then be regenerated by a thermal process or through the use of an advanced oxidation process, such as Fenton s Reagent. By varying the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Piano Song Analysis JazzTrail had access to Matthew Shipp s luminous new album, Piano Song , to be released January 2017. Recorded in trio with the bassist Michael Bisio and the drummer Newman Taylor Baker, this will be Matthew s last record on the Thirsty Ear label. These groundbreaking musicians display a tremendous sound as they continue to embrace hypnotic textures within an idiosyncratic universe. Shipp s elegant solo piano captivates in the solemn Links , the opening tune, while Cosmopolitan brings Miles Davis So What to mind through Bisio s evocative bass line and Shipp s suggestive melodies. Both the bassist and the drummer had the opportunity to express themselves individually here, as well as in the piano less Scrambled Brain . Baker s swell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
