The document discusses how the student's media product follows conventions of real music magazines in its front cover, contents page, and double page spread layouts. For the front cover, conventions like the masthead, artist image, and promotional text are used, though advertisements are placed at the top instead of bottom. The contents page similarly follows conventions but adds internal page images. The double page spread places the article on the right and large artist image on the left as standard but includes a smaller side article to engage younger readers. Overall, the student draws upon typical magazine designs while also challenging some conventions.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

1. Question 1
In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. Conventions of a Front Cover
Masthead is at the top of
the page
Short, memorable name
Large main artist
covering masthead
Eye contact is made with the
audience
Full page image
Bright/clean colour scheme - Pop
Lots of cover lines,
information for the readers
Simple language used
3. My Front Cover
Advertisements at top
Large catchy masthead
Bright colours for background
Colour scheme is
kept
Main artist is dominant on
the page
Eye contact is made
Large cover lines; easily seen by reader
Simple language used
4. My magazine has followed many conventions of a pop
music magazine. This enables the magazine to easily
be identified when on the shelf by the reader, and
the bright colours also allow it to stand out.
The front cover has challenged certain
conventions as well. I have placed the
‘free posters’ section on the bottom
whereas others place this at the top.
The reason I have done this is because
my masthead is large, and if I made it
smaller it would be difficult to read.
5. Conventions of a Contents Page
Page title at top of page
Features section
Subscription
section/promotions
Advertisements
Main image focus of the magazine
Page numbers
6. My Contents Page
Title at the top of the page
Date

Main artist focus
Page numbers
Subscriptions/Promotions

Images of other pages in the magazine
Bright background/clear
Conforms with colour scheme
7. As you can see from the comparison, my contents page
follows many conventions. I have kept the same
layout at the top of the page, and put the features
down the right hand side of the page. This means the
readers are able to see the magazine contents as
soon as they turn the page.
Some conventions I have developed from this example
is the images at the bottom of the page. The reason
why I have done this is to draw the readers in to give
them an example of what is in the magazine.
8. Conventions of a Double Page Spread
Text on the left hand side of the page
Small artist title
Large letter

the artists

Article is in columns,
and paragraphs
Main artist

9. My Double Page Spread

10. The double page spread follows the conventions of the
article being on the right and the main image being
on the left. The main image in large, which is
conventional as it is usually meant to be the size of a
piece of A4.
One convention I challenged was the small side article
at the bottom of the page. This was to meet my
target audience, which is mainly younger people.
This will keep their attention on the page as there
are different things going on and the bright blue will
draw them in.
