3. My finished product clearly shows I have followed some conventions of Hip Hop genre
magazines. Firstly, the mast head I had created is largely placed in the top centre
of the front page so that it is clear to the audience and is eye catching just like the
“TRUE” magazine I have compared my magazine to. The masthead needs to eye
catching as when the magazine is placed on shelves in the shop the audience
should be able to read the name from far. I also used the masthead on the
contents and double page spread but by shortening it to look like a logo to carry
on the branding throughout the whole magazine. I have kept a consistent colour
scheme of red and black as these colours are masculine which relates to a hip hop
magazine. The main image I used for the front cover is a male model with angry
expression so that it relates to a hip hop magazine as this convention is important,
as hip hop is linked with masculinity. Also the image is directly addressing the
audience as their is eye contact, this is used in “TRUE” magazine as well, this
creates a rapport with the audience. I kept the layout of the front cover simple as
this is a main convention for a hip hop magazine. I used a pug on the bottom right
hand corner which is challenging the convention for hip hop magazine as hip hop
magazines don't usually use pugs. Finally, the font I used for all the lettering was
“Impact“ as this is bold and looks very modern which will relate to my target
audience.

5. For the contents page I have followed conventions of a hip hop magazine.
Firstly, I used the mast head from the front page onto the contents page
but as logo form to create brand identity and make it recognisable to the
audience. The main title of this page was “Contents” as this is the contents
page. I placed the title on the top right corner as it will stand out and it
follows a main convention for a magazine. The title is in black to follow the
colour scheme of the magazine, this is an important convention to follow. I
added an editorial to the contents page to create a connection with the
reader, this is challenging a convention for a hip hop magazine as the
“TRUE” magazine doesn't have an editorial. The editorial image is a
medium close up of the editor showing their angry expressions which links
with the genre of hip hop. I have used sub headings to tell the reader what
each page is and a page number to allow the audience to locate the page
on the magazine. I didn't use a main image which will go against the
conventions as the magazine “TRUE” has a main image relating to hip hop.

7. For the double page spread I followed conventions of a hip hop magazine.
Usually the main image for the double page spread should just be of the
model with no mise en scene, but I challenged this by having a
background which relates to the genre. The magazine “TRUE” follows the
convention as the main image has no mise en scene but just a black
background to emphasise the model being the main focus of the double
page article and creating hype. I have used page numbers to follow the
conventions of a magazine to allow the audience to find the page and
navigate around easier and placed the number on the bottom right as this
is common place for page numbers. I used a pull quote on the top of the
page in big font to excite the reader to read the Q&A. I also followed the
convention of using a double drop cap which tell the audience where the
article starts, the “TRUE” magazine also follows this convention.
