Film Magazine and
Movie Poster Survey
Survey Analysis
Luca Reidy
Question 1)
What is your gender?
• From this information
collected, our film magazine
will be influenced from the
female audience.
• Generally, we see females
read more magazines
meaning the questions
answered can be beneficial
to us when creating the
magazine
Question 2)
What is your age?
• The age range of our film
trailer has to represent
what our target audience.
• As most men between 18
and 34 are most
stereotypical to watch
crime films, we know they
will tell us the
appropriate information
about what to include on
the magazine front page
Question 3)
What film genres are you interested in?
• The information collected
from this question shows
most of our answers may
be slightly different to
what we expected, as
most people are
interested in comedy.
• The crime interest in 2nd
place will allow us to see
some correct
representations
Question 4)
What colour scheme would you expect from a
featured crime movie?
• We will follow a dark
colour scheme mainly
consisting of blacks, greys
and simplistic colours.
• As our film trailer is
crime, this well allow is to
create more tension
within the magazine and
poster as the audience
will not be able to see
clear aspects.
Question 5)
What is the best name for a film magazine?
• The name of our magazine
is View, chosen from one of
our responders commenting
it underneath the question.
• The meaning of the word
View is ‘to look at or
inspect’ which is the main
focus of the promotional
materials were creating.
Voyeurism also is the ability
to seek gratification from an
object, which is what were
hoping our magazine and
poster will do.
Question 6)
What content would you expect from a film
magazine
• As we are only creating a front
cover, we have to engage our
audience by the use of cover
lines and images. To do this,
research shows that they
prefer reviews and behind the
scenes.
• Examples of cover lines can
be;
– Predators, release of the year?
– Massive special preview
• Both of these cover lines dont
give the audience any
information, engaging them
more with the magazine
Question 7)
From the front cover, what details do you want to
know about the film?
• Normally when you see
a film magazine, you
see one of the main
characters which is
what we will do on our
magazine front page.
The picture will show
details about a specific
section of the story,
without giving away any
teasers.
Question 8)
Should the cover lines represent the crime
genre?
• Our previous question was
asking about what content
should be on the cover. The
results on this question
show that they only want
crime cover lines, linking to
other films.
• This also attracts a larger
male audience as this is our
preferred target audience
and if they see crime genre
cover lines, they would
more likely be interested in
the magazine
Question 9)
What conventions do you expect to see
• Convetions have to stay the
same, based on David
Chandlers genre theory. From
this, the audience have shown
that a crime movie magazine
and poster should contain a
sense of violence, which can
be shown through facial
expressions or physical
violence.
• Mise-en-scene can also
represent this from the use of
suits (represented with
mafia’s, or rugged tracksuits,
more London based gangs)
Question 10)
Would you prefer us to reveal any secrets about
the movie
• The fact that the
majority of the
audience doesn't want
any secrets to be
shown, we will make
sure all images are
subtle in their context,
and also all cover lines
do not give away any
story lines.
