TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ RESPONSE 
A. Daily Routine 
1. Prayer 
“______, please lead the prayer.” (the students will pray the hail holy queen) 
2. Greetings 
“Good morning class!” 
“now and forever” 
“please be seated” 
“Good morning Ms. Lucas! Praised be Jesus 
and Mary” 
3. Checking of Attendance 
“Secretary, who is absent today?” 
“It’s nice to hear that.” 
“No one is absent today, Ma’am.” 
4. Review 
“Before we start our lesson today, let us recall 
the topic we have discussed yesterday by 
completing the beginning sentence: “ 
“I learned that…”

“Now, kindly give some examples of _______.”

B. Lesson Proper 
1. Motivation 
“Are you familiar with this tongue twister?” 
“Good!” 
“Kindly read it aloud observing correct 
intonation.” 
“Yes, ma’am.” 
A flea and a fly in a flue 
were imprisoned. So what could they do? 
Said the fly, "Let us flee." 
Said the flea, "Let us fly." 
So they flew through a flaw in the flue.
“Can anyone of you recite it fast?” 
“Yes, _______.” 
“Well done, _______.” 
“Who can now recite it five times without 
committing any mistake?” 
“Yes, _______.” 
“Very good, _______.” 
(Students will raise their hands.) 
(The student will recite it as fast as he could.) 
(Students will raise their hands.) 
(The student will recite it five times.) 
2. Presentation 
“Now, kindly identify the words enclosed with 
quotation marks.” 
“Yes, _______.” 
“Well done, _______.” 
“What have you noticed on these lines? 
“I have here four pairs of sentences. Study the 
following pairs of sentences.” 
(Students will raise their hands.) 
(The student will underline the words.) 
“There is an introductory part which is usually 
set off by a comma.” 
“The quoted part which gives the exact words 
of the speaker is enclosed in quotation marks.” 
A. 1. The girl asks, “Is there a fire?” 
2. The girl asks if there is a fire. 
B. 1. The boy says, “There is no fire.” 
2. The boy says that there is no fire. 
C. 1. The girl tells the boy, “Stay here.” 
2. The girl tells the boy to stay here. 
D. 1. “Who is throwing us out?” the girl 
asks. 
2. The girl asks who is throwing them 
out. 
3. Discussion 
“What changes happened for each set of 
sentences?” 
“How about if the verb in the introductory part 
is in the past tense, what will be your verb 
form?” 
“In set A, the introductory word if is used.” 
“In set B, the introductory word that is used.” 
“In set C, the infinitive form (to) of the verb in 
the quoted part. 
“In set D, the question is placed after the word 
asks.” 
“When the verb in the introductory part is in the 
present tense, the verb in the second sentence 
is also in the present tense.” 
“The verb will be also in the past tense.
4. Generalization 
“Number 1 sentences are examples of Direct 
speech. How will you describe sentences in 
the direct speech? Or, what is a direct 
speech?” 
“On the other hand, number 2 sentences are 
examples of Indirect speech. How will you 
describe sentences in the indirect speech? Or, 
what is an indirect speech?” 
“Direct speech gives the exact words of the 
speaker.” 
“Indirect speech gives the words of the 
speaker as reported by another person.” 
5. Application 
“Study the following pictures and tell to the 
class what the person in each picture says.” 
“Who wants to answer number 1?” 
“Okay, _______ for number 1.” 
“Read first the callout in the picture.” 
“How about if we change it into a direct 
speech?” 
“Yes, _______.” 
“Very good, _______.” 
“For number 2, _______.” 
“Yes, _______.” 
“Very good answer, _______.” 
“How about number 3?” 
“Yes, _______.” 
“That’s correct!” 
“Next, for number 4.” 
“Yes, _______.” 
“Very good!” 
“For the last picture…” 
“Yes, _______.” 
”Yes, you’re correct. Now, you may take your 
seat.” 
(Students will raise their hands.) 
1. I can’t practice today. 
“Rukawa says that he can’t practice today.” 
(Students will raise their hands.) 
“Rukawa says, “I can’t practice today.”” 
(Students will raise their hands.) 
2. We eat to live, but we don’t live to eat. 
“The farmer says that we eat to live, but we 
don’t live to eat.” 
(Students will raise their hands.) 
3. Life is a mixture of sunshine and rain. 
“Tomoyo tells them that life is a mixture of 
sunshine and rain.” 
(Students will raise their hands.) 
4. Prayer is good, but prayer with good deeds 
is better. 
“The monk tells us that prayer is good, but 
prayer with good deeds is better.” 
(Students will raise their hands.) 
5. A good friend is he who speaks well of us 
behind our backs, said Edward.” 
“Edward Elric says that a good friend is he who 
speaks well of us behind our backs.”
V. EVALUATION 
“For your seatwork, kindly get a sheet of 
crosswise paper and do this.” 
“Transpose the following direct speech to 
indirect speech.” 
1. “Please get my shoes.” Father 
requested Shaun. 
2. “Wash the dishes.” Mother commands 
her maid. 
3. “Why are you laughing?” Carla asked. 
4. “It’s better to give than to receive.” 
Carla told Diego. 
5. “Is it raining outside?” Ben asked. 
“No more papers, Ma’am.” 
“Okay, finish or not finish, pass your paper to 
the center then forward. One, two, three, four, 
five.” 
“Are there some more papers left? All papers 
in?” 
VI. AGREEMENT 
“As our agreement, you need to write five 
famous lines from a movie or a TV program. 
Then, change it into an indirect speech. 
Place it on your notebook.” 
“Everyone, please stand for our closing 
prayer.” 
“In the name of the Father, and of the Son, 
and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. 
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to 
the Holy Spirit…" 
“Let’s call it a day, goodbye class.” 
“…As it was in the beginning is now and will 
be forever. Amen.” 
(Sign of the cross.) 
“Goodbye Ma’am see you tomorrow may the 
love of the Lord be with you always.”

Prayer “______, please lead the prayer.” (the students will pray the hail holy queen) 2. Greetings “Good morning class!” “now and forever” “please be seated” “Good morning Ms. Lucas! Praised be Jesus and Mary” 3. Checking of Attendance “Secretary, who is absent today?” “It’s nice to hear that.” “No one is absent today, Ma’am.” 4. Review “Before we start our lesson today, let us recall the topic we have discussed yesterday by completing the beginning sentence: “ “I learned that…” “Yes, _______.” “Very well said, _______.” “Now, kindly give some examples of _______.” “Okay, very well said.” (Students will raise their hands.) “I learned that _______.” (Answers may vary.) B. Lesson Proper 1. Motivation “Are you familiar with this tongue twister?” “Good!” “Kindly read it aloud observing correct intonation.” “Yes, ma’am.” A flea and a fly in a flue were imprisoned. So what could they do? Said the fly, "Let us flee." Said the flea, "Let us fly." So they flew through a flaw in the flue.

Presentation “Now, kindly identify the words enclosed with quotation marks.” “Yes, _______.” “Well done, _______.” “What have you noticed on these lines? “I have here four pairs of sentences. Study the following pairs of sentences.” (Students will raise their hands.) (The student will underline the words.) “There is an introductory part which is usually set off by a comma.” “The quoted part which gives the exact words of the speaker is enclosed in quotation marks.” A. 1. The girl asks, “Is there a fire?” 2. The girl asks if there is a fire. B. 1. The boy says, “There is no fire.” 2. The boy says that there is no fire. C. 1. The girl tells the boy, “Stay here.” 2. The girl tells the boy to stay here. D. 1. “Who is throwing us out?” the girl asks. 2. The girl asks who is throwing them out. 3. Discussion “What changes happened for each set of sentences?” “How about if the verb in the introductory part is in the past tense, what will be your verb form?” “In set A, the introductory word if is used.” “In set B, the introductory word that is used.” “In set C, the infinitive form (to) of the verb in the quoted part. “In set D, the question is placed after the word asks.” “When the verb in the introductory part is in the present tense, the verb in the second sentence is also in the present tense.” “The verb will be also in the past tense.
  • 3. 4. Generalization “Number 1 sentences are examples of Direct speech. How will you describe sentences in the direct speech? Or, what is a direct speech?” “On the other hand, number 2 sentences are examples of Indirect speech. How will you describe sentences in the indirect speech? Or, what is an indirect speech?” “Direct speech gives the exact words of the speaker.” “Indirect speech gives the words of the speaker as reported by another person.” 5. Application “Study the following pictures and tell to the class what the person in each picture says.” “Who wants to answer number 1?” “Okay, _______ for number 1.” “Read first the callout in the picture.” “How about if we change it into a direct speech?” “Yes, _______.” “Very good, _______.” “For number 2, _______.” “Yes, _______.” “Very good answer, _______.” “How about number 3?” “Yes, _______.” “That’s correct!” “Next, for number 4.” “Yes, _______.” “Very good!” “For the last picture…” “Yes, _______.” ”Yes, you’re correct. Now, you may take your seat.” (Students will raise their hands.) 1. I can’t practice today. “Rukawa says that he can’t practice today.” (Students will raise their hands.) “Rukawa says, “I can’t practice today.”” (Students will raise their hands.) 2.
