GRADE 7
(SECTION: CATTLEYA, GLADIOLA, CARNATION)
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the 85% students are expected to:
a) define unfamiliar word through synonyms clues;
b) familiarize the unfamiliar words from an essay entitled “I am a Filipino”; and
c) enhance vocabulary through mastery of synonym clues
II. SUBJECT MATTER
a) Topic: Synonym Clues (Vocabulary Building)
b) Materials: Visual Aid, Task Cards, Pictures, Marker

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE
A) Preliminary activities

- Classroom Rules: #1 Be Silent #2 Be still
2) Lesson proper
a) Activity
- Divide the class into six groups
- Show cropped pictures to the students and let them stare at it
- Let the students figure out what the picture is
a) Picture 1 b) Picture 2 c) Picture 3
- Let each group compete, the group to guess the picture will get extra points

b) Analysis
After the activity, ask the following questions:
a) Is it easy to guess a cropped picture?
b) Would it help you guess if you see a bigger portion of the pictures?
c) What are your clues in guessing the picture?
c) Abstraction
Context means the set of facts or circumstances that surround a situation or event. Just like
the pictures shown, when you looked at the cropped pictures you will have a hard time to
figure out what the picture is. However, if you see the bigger picture you will know that the
picture is a tomb, a turbine and a Philippine map.
Context clues help you guess the meaning of the unfamiliar words through the words that
surround them.
Context Clues- is when you use the words surrounding the unknown word to help
determine the unknown word’s meaning.
Synonym Clues
o Words with similar meanings are used within the same sentence, or around the
unfamiliar word
o a difficult word is restated in a simpler form, usually through commas
o usually uses signal words like --- is, or, and
ex.
The seedwas buried in a tomb many years ago.
The turbines or rotary engines are used to convert energy in the factories.
The foreign oppressor came and invaded our beloved nation.
d) Application
a. Give each group their “vocabulary treasures”
b. Inside the treasures are unfamiliar words from an essay “I am a Filipino”
c. Every group has different vocabulary words
