D. Discussion
The teacher introduces the topic to the learners by using the powerpoint
presentation as a guide for the lesson proper.
Defining the different terms of the topic:
FACT
something that can be verified with evidences
provable, observable and measurable
statements that can be proven by reliable authority
information based on statistics, scientific law, history books and others
Example:
“Ferdinand Marcos is the former president of the Philippines.”
Why do you think that it is a fact?
3. OPINION
something which cannot be proven
based on someone’s thoughts, feelings and understanding
statements that can be confusing if it is widely accepted
Example:
“Current president Duterte is the best president.”
Do you agree with the statement? Why?
Distinguishing fact from opinion through listening attentively:
KEEPING AN OPEN MIND
being receptive to new ideas
important when identifying facts and opinions in a given text
means to wait until you know all the facts before having an opinion or making
a sound judgment or criticism
STAY FOCUSED ON THE TOPIC
focusing on the topic when listening will help you to identify key points
it will narrow your understanding on the text you are listening to
IDENTIFY THE PURPOSE AND MAIN IDEA
main idea is one of the most important concept in a passage as a whole
a way to actually understand what the person is trying to say
once the main idea is identified, all the details will fall into place
without the main idea, it will not make any sense
