C. Personal Letter
Writing letters and messages can be complicated for some people. However, it is not
difficult to learn. Some important points on personal letters to be noted are:
 Your address (but not your name) usually goes in the top right-hand corner, if it included, but
it is no need to put it is often left out altogether in informal letters.
 There is no need to put the address of the person you are writing to.
 There are many different ways of ending an informal letter. These are some of the most
common:
To Family Members and close friends To friends and acquaintances
Love
Love from
Lots of love
Best wishes
All the best
Take care

Dear Mom and Dad
We have some exciting news for you. Kareena is going to have a baby! We didn’t tell you right away.
At first, the doctor said she might have some troubles with the baby. Now, he says she is just fine.
She is very healthy and happy! she still works on her painting every day. But, she stopped teaching
art classes. She gets tired more quickly now.
There is going to be another change in our lives. We are moving back to New Delhi! We wanted to be
closer to you and to Sanjay. It is much nicer to be near the family for something important like a baby.
Kareena grew up in Chicago and she doesn’t have a family. So, that makes you even more important
to us.
Kareena is a little worried about working in New Delhi. She will have to start again there. In Paris, her
paintings are already popular. But, I’m sure people will like them In New Delhi, too. My job won’t be
any problem. I am still going to work for the New Delhi Times. I’ll be writing about The United Nations
in New Delhi. We are planning to move next month. See you then.

Destroyed by the release of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) into the atmosphere.
A clause is a part of a sentence. A relative clause tells us which person or thing (or what kind of person
or thing) the speaker means.
We use which in a relative clause when we are talking about things.
We use that in a relative clause when we are talking about things or people.

The Goose and The Golden Eggs
Once a farmer went to the nest of his goose and found there an egg, all yellow and shiny.
When he picked it up, it was heavy as a rock. He was about to throw it away because he thought
that someone was playing a trick on him. But on second thought, he took it home, and
discovered to his delight that it was an egg of pure gold!
He sold the egg for a lot of money. Every morning the goose laid another golden egg, and
the farmer soon became rich by selling the eggs.
As he grew rich, he also grew greedy. “Why should I have to wait to get only one egg a
day?” he thought. “I will cut open the goose and take all the eggs out of her at once.”
When the goose heard the farmer’s plan, she flew away to a nearby farm. So when the
farmer came out the next day, do you know what he found in the goose’s nest? Nothing.

Biodiesel is a clean burning substitute for petroleum based diesel fuel. Biodiesel is made of
vegetable oil.
To make or manufacture Biodiesel, you must first start with raw materials. The raw
materials needed in the production of Biodiesel are a small amount of methanol and a ready
supply of vegetable product. One of the most common vegetables used in the production of
Biodiesel is corn, although depending on the geographic location of the manufacturing facility
many other plants are used as well (rapeseed, soybeans, flaxseed, etc.). The first step is to use the
raw vegetable product to make vegetable oil. Vegetable oil by itself will not be what you need to
power a car, from here it has to be processed into Biodiesel.
The process for converting vegetable oil into Biodiesel is sometimes called ester
interchange. To complete this process the vegetable oil has to be combined with a smaller
amount of methanol and then put in the presence of a small quantity of an alkaline catalyst (for
example, 5% to 1% sodium hydroxide). Vegetable oil is made up of so-called triglycerides,
which is a compound of the trivalent alcohol glycerin with three fatty acids. The goal of ester
interchange is to separate the glycerin molecule from the three fatty acids and replace it with
three methanol molecules. This process then yields roughly 90% Biodiesel and 10% of a glycerin
byproduct. The glycerin byproduct can be used in a number of other chemical processes for
different industries.

All planes need air to presure under their wings to stay up in the air. As they move
forward. The higher air pressure underneath their wings pushes them upward and gives them lift.
The smooth, streamlined shape of the plane allows the air to flows easily over its surface. This
helps to reduce the drag caused by the air pushing against the plane and allows it to move rapidly
through the air.
Planes move forward using engines. This movement is called thrust. Moving forward
keeps a stream of moving air passing over the wings. If the engines fail, theplanes will begin to
descend very quickly.
The air above the wing moves faster, so it is at a lower pressure than the air under the
wing. The air under the wing moves more slowly and is slightly squashed, so it is at a higher
pressure than the air above the wing.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Fast Food
Discussion Text
Issue Nowadays, people are being busy with their job. They
compete against time to complete all of the works. This fast life
makes them love everything which is also fast and instant. It is
applied in their eating habit. They prefer the foods that are
prepared and served quickly rather than the healthy food which
needs long time to serve. That food is called as fast food or junk

lifestyle because it does not require a long time.
Arguments for The most fast food obvious advantage is those food can save
time better. In this very quick of life, there is no better option for
food than fast food although there are so many people who
recommend healthy food. When someone come home with hunger
and tiring because of work, fast food becomes the main choice for
them. They do not have time to go to kitchen or shopping to
supermarket just to get a various of healthy food.
Arguments against It is also proved to have some disadvantages for its
consumer. The largest disadvantage of fast food is because these
contain a lot of fat, sugar, oil, calories, and addictive substances. The
process of frying also makes it becomes an unhealthy food. The
frying process can destroy most of the essential nutrients inside the
food itself. If fast food is consumed continuously, it will cause very
dangerous diseases including heart disease, stroke, obesity, and
many more.
Recommendation From the short discussion above, it can be concluded that
fast food has its advantages and disadvantages for its consumer. It is
considered can save time and money, besides that it is also
considered as a cause of health problem and Loosening of family
relationships. Therefore, we must be smart in choosing a healthy
lifestyle for us.

Read the passage below then choose the best answer by crossing a,b, c, d, or e !
Most people agree that the family planning programme is desirable for the good of family
and society. But individuals and religious groups differ sharply on the methods of birth
control that they consider moral and acceptable.
Couples that practice birth control do so for various reasons. They may want to limit or
space their children, or to have no children at all. Young couples often postpone having
children so that both partners can work full-time. Other couples space their children so
they can give each as much attention as possible. Some women are advised by their doctor
to avoid pregnancy for health reasons. In many countries with rapidly growing
populations, the government encourages couples to limit the number of their families.
Even thought birth control has gained in acceptance, opposition to the practice is
continuous. Some people fear that birth control encourages sexual outside marriage or that
government might impose birth control. Some religious groups oppose birth control on
moral grounds.
Some religious groups teach that artificial methods of birth control are immoral because
they separate the purposes of intercourse in marriage-conjugal love and the procreation of
children. Although they oppose all artificial birth control, they consider natural family
planning to be acceptable.

Pro and con of Computers for Students
Do you know that most schools and colleges strongly recommend students to have
computers to help them achieve better results of learning. With computer connected to
Internet, students can learn English online. They can make reports easily by using word
processing software. They can play game to get of boredom. However, a computer can also
give negative impacts for a student.
One thing that makes a computer useful is that students can use it to finish some
assignments from schools. By connecting to Internet, they can easily surf and find any
materials related to their lessons and assignments. They have unlimited resources from all
over the worlds. Online libraries are open. A lot of book are free to download and read
online. Finding friends from related field of study is not difficult anymore. They can work
together to boost their best achievement. What more benefit is they can do all of that just
by sitting on the a chair of their rooms. What amazing world it is, isn’t?
Although a computer has many benefits, it should be considered deeply. A computer
certainly does not promote students to do and move more. A computes make students
have less physical activities. Even not few of them forget to have lunch while they are
playing certain game. They just sit in front of monitors. They are caught up in the mystique
of the smart machines. In short, students who usually work with computers tend to have a
few physical activities and exercises.
So what should students do? Should they avoid using computers? Of course “No”.
Computer will make even greater benefits if physical activities are also promoted to done
by the students.
1) What is the text tell about?
2) Why is computer useful for students?
3) Why are students banned to use computer?
4) Mention the disadvantages of using computer!
5) How does writer state this issue?

  • 21. 21 Read the passage below then choose the best answer by crossing a,b, c, d, or e ! Biodiesel is a clean burning substitute for petroleum based diesel fuel. Biodiesel is made of vegetable oil. To make or manufacture Biodiesel, you must first start with raw materials. The raw materials needed in the production of Biodiesel are a small amount of methanol and a ready supply of vegetable product. One of the most common vegetables used in the production of Biodiesel is corn, although depending on the geographic location of the manufacturing facility many other plants are used as well (rapeseed, soybeans, flaxseed, etc.). The first step is to use the raw vegetable product to make vegetable oil. Vegetable oil by itself will not be what you need to power a car, from here it has to be processed into Biodiesel. The process for converting vegetable oil into Biodiesel is sometimes called ester interchange. To complete this process the vegetable oil has to be combined with a smaller amount of methanol and then put in the presence of a small quantity of an alkaline catalyst (for example, 5% to 1% sodium hydroxide). Vegetable oil is made up of so-called triglycerides, which is a compound of the trivalent alcohol glycerin with three fatty acids. The goal of ester interchange is to separate the glycerin molecule from the three fatty acids and replace it with three methanol molecules. This process then yields roughly 90% Biodiesel and 10% of a glycerin byproduct. The glycerin byproduct can be used in a number of other chemical processes for different industries. 1. What is the text about? a) The process of making Biodiesel. b) The use of the Biodiesel. c) The advantage of using the Biodiesel. d) The benefit of producing the Biodiesel. e) The development of the Biodiesel product. 2. What are interchanged in the process of ester interchange? a) The three fatty acids with the glycerin molecules. b) The glycerin molecule with three methanol molecules. c) Methanol with the three fatty acids. d) Vegetable oil with methanol e) Methanol and alkaline catalyst. 3. According to the text, one of the advantages in using biodiesel is… a) it is cheap. b) it only uses vegetable oil. c) it uses replaceable materials. d) it can be done in small industry. e) it gives less pollution than petroleum. 4. “The process for converting vegetable oil…”(Paragraph 3) The underline word is closest in meaning to… a) Producing b) Separating c) Attaching d) Processing
