The majority of the population in medieval Europe were peasants, comprising around 90% of people. Peasants lived difficult lives, working long hours each day in their lord's fields as well as their own small plots of land. They paid taxes and fees to both the lord and the church. Children and the elderly peasants performed lighter tasks while men did the hardest work like ploughing and harvesting. Women helped with tasks like sowing, harvesting, and domestic duties. The nobility made up less than 10% of the population and were divided into high and low nobility. Noblemen received military training from a young age and fought for their lord during times of war.
