Cinema As An Entity Deeply Embodied
With the roots of cinema as an entity deeply embodied in Europe, cinema in France was becoming less
and less prominent in the 1950s leaving it in dire need of resuscitation. Meanwhile, the idea of
auteurship was fast becoming established in Hollywood because it effectively conferred directors that
worked with restriction on their material a somewhat lesser recognition and creative freedom in films.
This formulaic approach to cinema was successful yet exhaustive as the same story patterns and
effectively the same actors and directors were used through the economic resources that were at their
exposal. The system effectively degraded the director s personal style and stamp on the films they
produced, a problem later remedied with the introduction of the auteur policy. The monopolization
approach of Hollywood meant particular individual films were bound for box office success and
others less so.
In 1959, Breathless by French director Jean Luc Godard was released and the film proved
controversial, it raised eyebrows and to some opened eyes. The film had audiences and film critics
talking and it essentially ignited the New Wave movement known as la Nouvelle Vague. Other films
that massively influenced this movement were 400 Blows by François Truffaut and Hiroshima Mon
Amour by Alan Resnais. The main focus of the movement was to deviate from the traditional
approach of filmmaking which they considered old, boring and formulaic.
Jean Luc Godard s Breathless is somewhat a

Nureyev Dancers Analysis
Some bits and pieces from the hoopla surrounding the cancelled premiere of Nureyev at the Bolshoi,
coming from people close to the situation in Moscow: The most objectionable bits in the ballet were:
i) a jumbo sized photograph by Richard Avedon of Nureyev naked with genitalia on full display as a
prominent feature of the stage decoration ii) the performer of Nureyev s role being asked to show his
naked bosom bent over with butt cheeks spread out in the scene depicting the photo shoot where the
aforementioned photograph was made. Ovcharenko refused to perform naked, was allowed to wear a
body colored loincloth instead, but was also relegated to the second cast in favor of the less shy
Lantratov iii) a scene at the Bois de Boulogne in Paris showing a march of transvestites: men on high
heels wearing colorful clothes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there were several other factors that contributed to the chaos. Originally, the ballet was
scheduled to premier in the 2017/18 season, giving Possokhov Co. ample time. Instead, Bolshoi s big
premiere for this year was the new Anna Karenina by John Neumeier, a co production with the
Hamburg and the Canada ballet companies. However, this Karenina faced delays of its own, and
Bolshoi s head of planning Irina Chernomurova (director Vladimir Urin s wife), being a great friend of
Neumeier, decided to accommodate him and moved Karenina s Bolshoi premiere into the next season,
asking Possokhov to accelerate his work plan and get Nureyev ready for this summer. Along the way,
to keep things even clearer for Neumeier, the Bolshoi decided to sacrifice the revival of La Phille du
Pharaon, also originally considered for the 2017/18 season. So, poor planning by Bolshoi s leadership
all around, which seems to be getting progressively

The Testament Of The Old Testament God Essay
Throughout the Old Testament God continually manifests himself to humanity. When He is speaking
to the prophets, leaders, or the nation of Israel, He presents opportunities for obedience in the form of
covenants. Faithfulness is also needed to secure an association with God. Obedience is probably the
most difficult aspect of mankind s relationship with God. These covenants are the essential promises
and pacts between God and humanity. I will present evidence from each of the Four Canons
(Pentateuch, History, Poetry /Wisdom, and Prophets) from the Old Testament that our best is only
possible by obeying God.
[PENTATEUCH]
The Pentateuch or otherwise known as the Torah is a five part literary composition. These
compositions contain the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The main
story is about the founding of Israel and their exodus out of Egypt. In Genesis 9: 11 17, there is one of
the covenants God made with man, Noah.
First of all, what is a covenant? A covenant is an agreement and union between two individuals.
Conditional and unconditional are the two basic types. In a conditional (bilateral) covenant, both
parties need to fulfill it. An unconditional (unilateral) covenant only one of the parties must act, and
nothing else is required from the other. This covenant was made after God had flooded the earth due to
man s wickedness and evil. God wanted no part of a relationship with mankind. Noah, who had been
always humble and faithful, was spared

The State Council Of The Peoples Republic Of China
The State Council of the Peoples Republic of China violates the Hong Kong Basic Law by
purposefully creating a pro Beijing majority in the Hong Kong Election Committee and thus denies
citizens participation in the election of their Chief Executive. This social injustice forms part of a
larger social justice struggle whereby the autonomy of Hong Kong is slowly being eroded by Central
Government control.
Hong Kong citizens have long been discontent with the Chinese Central Government over concerns
about their long term political freedom. Many believe in the principles set forth by their British
colonisers: capitalism, free trade and freedom of speech. In contrast, China believes in communism by
means of a one party state and censorship. As a result of the huge disparity of social, economic and
political freedoms between Hong Kong and China, Hong Kong citizens have developed their own
sense of national pride, a type of Hong Kong centric identity that celebrates their autonomy from the
Central Government (Leung). Indeed a 2011 poll found that 67% of Hong Kong citizens considered
them Hong Kong people first and Chinese second showing the deep rootedness of the cultural divide
that exists between Hong Kong and China (The University of Hong Kong).
Meanwhile, the People s Republic of China and its citizens have never accepted Hong Kong as a
separate state; the reason for which lies in China s history. When the British won the Opium Wars,
they forced China into an unequal

The Luck Of Ginger Coffey Essay
In Brian Moore s The Luck of Ginger Coffey, the city of Montreal is depicted as being in a kind of
stasis, its landscape and inhabitants repeatedly described as frozen and stagnant: Four forty five.
Office workers, waiting release as the minute hand moved slowly towards the hour, looked at the
darkness beyond their windows and saw edges of frosting begin to mist the panes (Moore 117).
Despite this passage s emphasis on stillness, however, it nevertheless features two references to time.
Throughout Moore s novel, attention is repeatedly paid to specific times or time frames, complicating
the underlying image of Montreal as a city averse to progress. Considering the subjectiveness of the
third person limited narration, it seems best to examine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The profession of the contemporary newspaper typist saw a change in corporate culture wherein the
clock became a powerful object, owned only by the foreman and governing the employees. It seems,
however, that Moore s depiction of time is more appropriately a reflection of Ginger s fixation on the
myth of the new world as a land of boundless opportunity. Indeed, the clock does seem to be
independent of the diurnal cycle: As [Coffey] started off, the sun moved west, unadmitted by the pall
clouds which all day had curtained the frozen river and the city islanded within it . . . Four forty five
(117). This image of the sun being blocked from the city by clouds demonstrates the city s apparent
ignorance for the sun s position in the sky, yet the passage continues on, repeatedly referring to the
passing minutes as Coffey makes his way to the Tribune. One thing that time does not seem so
independent from, however, is the lives of the office workers in the financial district, waiting release
as the minute hand moved slowly towards the hour (117). At five o clock . . . down came the office
workers, spilling out into the streets (117); at five thirty . . . [another] policeman . . . invited Coffey to
cross [the street] (117). In this passage, the connection between time and nature has been completely
severed and time has become reappropriated as

Theme Of Marriage By Gregory Corso Marriage
What causes people to contemplate marriage? Many would like to believe the answer is love, but that
is not always the case. People who think of an ideal marriage would think of two people loving each
other and sharing a personal bond or goals together. Marriage is usually defined as the legally or
formally recognized union of two lovers as partners in a personal relationship. This suggests there is
an actual connection between two people in marriage, but do people actually consider this when
committing to love and support their partners forever? As research and studies have shown, people
ultimately get married for the incorrect reasons, in which love is not included or even a part of. This
philosophy can be easily applied to the short poem, Marriage by Gregory Corso. In this emotional
poem, the author argues marriage is more effectively understood or known for culture and
convenience rather than through the abstract considerations of love. Corso finds himself confused
multiple times, wondering if he should marry to not be lonely, for tradition and for his physical and
mental health. He disregards love, a relationship or a connection with his future wife. The author
ponders the decision weighing the options. He highlights which ones are the right and which ones are
the incorrect reasons, according to his opinion. General ways of convenience like coping with
loneliness, health and economic status, and navigating cultural stereotypes and religion are often the

Similarities Between Aristotle And Hobbes
What is the natural condition of man according to Aristotle and Hobbes? Please compare.
Aristotle and Thomas Hobbes, both significant figures in the world of philosophy, are separated by 19
centuries, and their theories are as far from each other. To be more precise, Aristotle s and Hobbes s
ideas of the nature of man are opposite, which was underlined by Hobbes himself in his Leviathan
work. I believe, that scarce anything can be more absurdly said in natural philosophy than that which
now is called Aristotle s Metaphysics; nor more repugnant to government than much of that he hath
said in his Politics; nor more ignorantly than a great part of his Ethics (III, 669). After these words,
there are no doubts that, being familiar with Aristotle s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starting with the main idea: unlike Aristotle, Hobbs rejects any statements about the man as a social
creature. He states, that a man is an individual, and he only collaborates with other men because of the
instinct, because of the desire to survive. All men are equal, which is one more contradiction with
Aristotle, and all men are competitive. By himself man is an egoistic, willing the best for himself, like
power and wealth, but avoiding any kind of sufferings. When all men are the same, all men are like
this, there are constant conflicts, which is considered to be a natural state, according to Hobbes. Every
man is willing to take control over the others, the instinct of self preservation prevails in a man s
nature. This statement leads to the conclusion, that the natural state of man is a state of war. In this
state every man is against every man and everyone would just kill each other, but the only thing that
stops them and controls is an authority. Hobbes suggests that every State needs an absolute ruler,
absolute monarchy. He claims that because of the fear people keep the laws of this absolute monarch,
so only a stable government can keep people from their natural state, which is bellum omnium contra
omnes {war of all against

Day Camp Reflection Paper
Observation This summer I worked at Camp Cory as a Day Camp Coordinator. This experience came
with many difficulties, one of the positives was working with counselors from other countries,
including Spain, England, Brazil, Colombia, and Scotland. In my opinion, some of my best co
counselors were the international counselors. During the eight weeks I was there, I worked with four
international co counselors to facilitate a day camp group and worked closely with several others.
Working with counselors from other countries, we shared our different values and learned about each
other cultures. Even though we were from different backgrounds, we grew together, learn to work
together despite our differences and became a family together. There were a few challenges that had to
be worked through, one being a language barrier or in many cases an accent barrier. For some of the
international workers, English was not their first language, or if it was, they had an accent that was
difficult to understand. The language and accent barrier created miscommunication and funny
conversations. There are many examples that I could write about, however my favorite and the one
that impacted me the most has to be from week eight. I was working on inventorying the fused beads
or the iron beads, with one of the international works from Brazil. We were counting the peg board or
the thing that beads go on and then you iron, anyways we came to one that shaped like a dolphin and

The United States And The Civil War
Starting in 1865, the United States began to experience a series of changes and transformations that
completely altered the landscape of the country. On the political side, the federal government had to
deal with the aftermath of the Civil War and faced the challenge of reintegrating southern states back
into the union while also attempting to institute desegregation movements in the South. From a social
standpoint, almost four million slaves were freed by the end of the Civil War and in search of a better
life, while a wide majority of women saw their roles begin to change as there was a 307% increase in
women joining labor forces from 1880 1930. Meanwhile on the economic side, the entire nation was
undergoing the most significant industrial expansion to date, which would completely alter everyday
life. All of these profound and rapid changes left American citizens in a state of disarray and in search
for order, as they worried about how these changes would affect their lives and social statuses. This
growing paranoia among American citizens, especially in the upper class, culminated with laws and
court rulings being passed that ultimately favored the wealthy elites and prevented these changes from
taking power away from the hands of the people that already had control. Although there were many
instances from 1865 to the start of the 20th century that can illustrate the country s search for order,
the most significant example can be drawn from a decision made by the

Mexican People And Misrepresented In The Mexican People
Many times, Mexican people are misrepresented in the media whether it s a person writing a racist
remark on social media, the president speaking ill of Mexican people, or just people blaming Mexican
s for stealing jobs from them that they didn t want to do in the first place. Even the Mexican people
born in the United States are criticized just as much as immigrants are because of their race, name, or
just because they may look like the typical Mexican to other people but how can someone try to
marginalize other documented citizens for such simple characteristics? It s sad and upsetting to see
how a single person can corrupt most individuals to believe such remarks made towards my Mexican
community to get votes for a presidential election. Trump as we all know it has made many remarks
towards Mexicans while running for office and this sparked a racial conflict between Mexicans vs the
people who support his mindless verbal attacks, when Trump was running for office he made this
remark that stood out to me a lot, When Mexico sends its people, they re not sending their best... They
re sending people that have lots of problems, and they re bringing those problems with us. They re
bringing drugs. They re bringing crime. They re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people .
Mexico does not send anyone, Mexican people must fight against desert climates and a dangerous
river known to Mexican people as El Rio Grande (the Grande river) that travels for miles to get across

Explore How the Theme of Isolation Is Used in of Jane Eyre...
I will be exploring how the theme of isolation is used throughout the novel Jane Eyre written by
Charlotte Bronte, with particular focus on the opening chapters.
When Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre in 1847, it became an immediate bestseller. It contained
themes of which were previously rarely brought to light and of which many believed to be
controversial, such as women s place in the Victorian society, of which Bronte lived in.
Jane Eyre was written in first person narrative. This technique immediately allows the reader to relate
to and connect with the main character s emotions and experiences, and her isolation.
In this book, the author, Charlotte Bronte, has chosen to take an almost autobiographical approach to
the plot. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reading her volume, Jane takes particular notice of certain aspects of the book, such as: the solitary
rocks and promontories and the bleak shores . This could be yet another subtle reflection of her life,
and the direct reference to solitariness shows her introverted lifestyle and personality. Charlotte Bronte
then goes onto describe how the clear panes of glass, were protecting, but not separating me [Jane]
from the drear November day . This could be interpreted as meaning that although Jane is protected
from the realities of life outside Gateshead, as she is always isolated inside the house and its grounds,
she is not really separated from the harsh realities of life itself, as she believes she is suffering a much
more cruel life locked inside.
The use of sympathetic background, in the description of the drear November day the other side of the
window directly reflects the disposition of her own life, and therefore endorses the previous
statements. Afar, it offered a pale blank of mist and cloud; near a scene of wet lawn and storm beat
shrub, with ceaseless rain sweeping away wildly before a long and lamenting blast.
This description on page 2 of Jane s view from her window describes that of lawns, shrubs and clouds,
of which are usually thought of as generally pleasant, but Bronte has carefully chosen adjectives to
convert them

Comparison Between The Code Of Hammurabi And Hammurabi
Can rules be fair, but morally incorrect? In other words, can rules show fairness, but be unjust. Two
sets of laws in ancient history come to mind when this question arises. Those two laws are The Code
of Hammurabi and the Bible s laws. Hammurabi s legal code (The Code of Hammurabi) was
established between 1894 and 1595 B.C. (Barratt et al., 2017). The Code of Hammurabi was a set of
282 laws dealing with a wide variety of interactions, and an epilogue filled with curses applying to
anyone in the future who may change, efface, or subvent Hammurabi s divinely ordained legislation
(Cook 3). The Code of Hammurabi may have shown fairness to a degree, but the Bible s early laws
are more just than what King Hammurabi perceived his laws to be. ... Show more content on

For example, he states, By the command of Shamash, the great judge of heaven and earth, let
righteousness go forth in the land: by the order of Marduk, my lord let no destruction betail my
monument ( The Code of Hammurabi ).
The differences between the two laws go even deeper with the value of life. For example, if a man
strikes the daughter of another and causes miscarriage, he shall pay ten shekels (Student Handout 2.2
Documents from Mesopotamia). With a law like that, it begs to question if Hammurabi would pay ten
shekels for the life of his own child. However, the Bible s law on the subject brings more justice to
that situation. For example, If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth
prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman s demands
and the court allows (NIV Exodus 21:22). It continues by stating, But if there is serious injury, you are
to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for
wound, bruise for bruise (NIV Exodus 21:22). By the difference in the two laws, The Code of
Hammurabi seems like it has a class for every walk of life.
Hammurabi seemed to have boasted a lot in his own abilities. He seemed to have created a perception
that he was the upper class of humanity. For example, he states, My words are well considered; there
is no wisdom like unto mine ( The Code of Hammurabi ). This

Mate Selection Sociology
Family as a word is not easy to define, because it is so significant and universal to humanity. The
worlds cultures display so much variety of family that it is difficult to base it off of common elements.
The western world regards family as a wife, husband, and children. Other countries or groups, though,
have family forms consisting of more than one wife or vice versa. A broad definition of family is when
certain people consider themselves related by blood, marriage, or adoption.
Human groups have many forms of mate selection, ways to trace descent, and methods to assign
authority and pass on property. Each group perceives its own forms of family as natural.
In the functionalist perspective, they stress that to survive a society, one must meet its basic needs.
They examine family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When ideas are right or wrong change, it leads to new norms that guide behavior in new directions.
Like said above, it was once an aforethought right for a wife who worked full time to also do all the
housework but it is no longer the case. Though there are apparent differences in how husbands and
wives spend their time, in what sociologists refer to it as gendered division of labor, where husbands
still talk the primary responsibility for earning the income and the wives take primary responsibility
for taking care of the house and children; still there is still a shift taking place in the traditional gender
division of labor: wives spend more time than they used to earn family income while husbands spend
more time than they used to on housework and child care so these trends are part of changing thoughts
of gender of what is deliberately the right for husbands and wives. In ushering these new norms and
behavior or what is deliberately appropriate maybe in the future greater marital equality can be

clauses to avoid risks and should assure all the advantages mentioned above. 2. Quality control:
Detailed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) covering every aspect of outsourcing (for both IT and
telecom) with associated penalties for non conformance provided a framework for monitoring. If any
of the measurements fall below/ above certain threshold levels as indicated, there are penalties/

Indicators through which the performance of vendors were monitored and measured. By going for
long term partnerships with select vendors of repute with detailed SLAs, Bharti can reduce the explicit
transaction costs with the external vendors, thus making it a viable business model. Thus, by
monitoring the SLAs, key performance indicators, it should ensure that the vendor fulfills its
obligations and guard itself against potential vendor opportunism. 4. Final step is to arrive at the cost

Wilfred Owen Hero s Journey
For Sassoon, the deterioration of a pastoral English dream into a garish mournful nightmare is an
interior phenomenon attributable to the horrible experiences of martial life. In the poetry of Wilfred
Owen, conversely, it is war that literally disfigures the once nourishing earth corrupting it until the
very mud of the field is as threatening as the guns of the enemy. As Sandra Gilbert explains, the
landscape of the war was barely a landscape in the ordinary sense of the word, but rather a gigantic
charnel house (Gilbert 184). Thus, while a soldier might dream of Thomas Hardy s England as we
have seen Sassoon do, the reality of his surroundings was its near antithesis. Further, quoting Eric
Leed, Gilbert asserts that while [t]he battlefield ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This way, if to the living the once picturesque fields of Flanders portend only death and anguish, then
those same fields seem to offer an absurd, pastoral oasis to the dead. We see this much in Owen s
Apologia Pro Poemate Meo, where we learn that the poem s narrator, in death, saw God through mud
(1). Where in Miners the earth threatens to consume and extinguish the soldier, here after his demise it
offers freedom. We see this, for example, when the narrator cannot help but admit how [m]erry it was
to laugh there in the earth, [w]here death becomes absurd and life absurder (5 6). While living, the
narrator continues, power was on us as we slashed bones bare / Not to feel sickness or remorse of
murder; in death, the soldiers have dropped off Fear...[a]nd witnessed exultation (7 9, 13). In
surrendering to the earth, therefore, the narrator seems to permanently achieve a pastoral escapism
akin to those in which we have already seen Sassoon and Owen attempt. To allow him to remain there,
however, would be to ignore the poem s Latin title. According to the Norton editors, Owen s Apologia
translates to an Apology for My Poem an apology, of course, in the sense of a written vindication of

Examples Of Realism In Maggie A Girl Of The Streets
The aim of this essay is to present the cultural models of realism and naturalism in Stephen s Crane
novella Maggie. A girl of the streets.
Another aim of this paper is to support the idea that Stephen Crane portrays in his novella life just at it
is.
The main concepts of this essay are realism and naturalism.
American realism is characterized through verisimilitude of detail, effort to approach the norm of
experience, greater diversity in subject matter and tries to move away from romance and self creating
fictions. (American Literature lecture)
Naturalism describes a type of literature that attempts to apply scientific principles of objectivity and
detachment to its study of human beings. The naturalist novel describes his characters in relation with
their environment, heredity, instinct or chance. (http://public.wsu.edu/~campbelld/amlit/natural.htm)
A major problem inherent in the use of the terms realism and naturalism in discussions of literature is
the fact that both words also have distinctive meanings in philosophical discourse that can spill over ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Record Management

Abstract:
This paper is about electronic document management and standards for records management. The
author had introduced about the Electronic Document Management (EDM), Full Text Retrieval (FTR)
and World Wide Web (WWW). Then, the author had argued about directories as file plans and also
about the standard based on International Standard find Australian Standard. After that, the author had
focused on the way forward for records management. On the other hand, advantages also ... Show

The author had mentioned about the EDM, FTR and the WWW at the first discussion. This had shown
that many EDM vendors had to promote the off the peg systems. Its means here this system relied on
the use of automated indexing for the retrieval purpose. Then, FTR is limited by its reliance on natural
language. This is because every different records creator will use different terms in order to show the
same or closely meaning. Meanwhile, for the WWW it has great demands and also can facilitate the
searching. This can be seen through the hits that was produces after conducting a searching.
(b) Directories As File Plans
There is a strong argument about the transmitting physical directories of files and filing system into
the electronic channel. Since the emergence of technology, the names of files and directories cannot be
secure. Besides that, this directory structure must be attached within the metadata. The embedded
directory structures have a potential to become an effective damage control mechanism, as a tool for
making searching process becomes more precise. The author had argues that there are also strong
historical precedents in order to advocate electronic records management

Queen Elizabeth I; a Powerful Ruler in England
Brittany Fleetwood Barbara Whitehead History 111 6 May 2010 Queen Elizabeth I: A Powerful Ruler
in History While there was no law in Tudor England preventing appointment of a woman on the
throne, the ruling of a woman was considered unfavorable. Women were not normally held high in
command because it was believed that women could not rule well. During a time where the role of
women was contained, Elizabeth I of England proved her power and remained the only unmarried
queen in England s history. She reined England from 1558 to 1603 and has become the symbol of an
age, a symbol of the power of a woman who strived to govern. Queen Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen, is

And as for the traitor Wyatt, he might peradventure write me a letter but on my faith I never received
any from him; and as for the copy of my letter sent to the French King, I pray God confound me
eternally if ever I sent him word, message, token or letter by any means, and to this truth I stand it to
my death. Elizabeth pled her innocence her character true and loyal to her sister and Mary denied to
meet with Elizabeth. The English stood by their Lady s side, when bystanders shouted God save the
Queen , there was no response when the cry was God save the Lady Elizabeth , the answer came, so
be it . The people favored Lady Elizabeth over Queen Mary. When there was no evidence to prove
Lady Elizabeth s involvement against this treason, she was let go upon Wyatt s confession that neither
Elizabeth or Courtenay had any involvement in the rebellion. The importance of the dispute is that the
English supported Lady Elizabeth over their own Queen. The nation s religious state was most
comparable to Elizabeth s she was protestant and the Queen was, in their eyes, putting the fait of their

Elizabeth, even before she became Queen. Queen Mary married Philip, ruled, and died shortly after in

Examples Of Early Observational Movements In Film
Primary and Chronicle of a Summer are two examples of early observational movements in
documentary films that started in the 1960 s. Cinéma vérité was founded in France, while at the same
time, direct cinema was founded in the United States. Both have the same intention of being there and
placing the viewer in the location among the subjects. They each use at least one of the Griersonian s
themes, such as male narrator voice over, re enactment shots, and scripts. However, there are a few
differences in these movements with their choice and style in their approach. Cinéma vérité is very
self reflexive, and includes a lot of interaction between the filmmaker and the subjects on camera.
Techniques were deliberately done to remind the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the movie ends it continues to show a theater where Rouch and the people from the film are
watching it. Rouch asks them what they thought of the final movie and seeing themselves on the
screen. They took turns criticizing the film, allowing this scene to become the second layer of self
reflexivity. Chronicle of a Summer did include a Griersonian theme of the use of constructing and
reenacting shots. One scene, a man has his breakfast brought in by his mother to eat in his bed. Later
in a different scene, he does karate after getting home from work. Both scenes were set up to show
what a person does on a normal day. Both of these scenes seemed awkward but helped made the story

Tragic Comedy In Catch-22
You can t stop flying unless you re crazy; you cannot not stop flying if you re sane; and the only
people who want to fly are crazy. This absurd logic, hilarious at first, is the root of Catch 22, and is but
one such absurd joke among many in the book. In Catch 22, Joseph Heller employs comedy to
illustrate how initially comical characteristics can, when pulled to the extremes, lead people to enact
cruelties. Many of the most memorable moments of Catch 22 are indisputably hilarious. One such
example is Colonel Cathcart, an indecisive squadron leader obsessed with his own self image. Plagued
by constant doubts about his every choice, Colonel Cathcart oscillates rapidly and randomly between
relying on his subordinate Colonel Korn for advice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In retrospect, Colonel Cathcart s blatant goalpost manipulation isn t funny anymore once you consider
that all the deaths it causes had no other reason than pointless posturing. In fact, upon seeing its
results, his actions are sickening. When has it ever been funny to give soldiers hope of returning home
just to snatch it away? Why were we laughing at this tragedy? The darker implications of Cathcart s
actions reflect twistedly on the humor of those first scenes. These cherished, humorous moments of
the book cannot be laughed at anymore without a sense of unease. This evolution of scenes is
especially clear with the novel s name. The Catch 22 in the beginning is but a series of elaborate and
absurd paradoxes. Yossarian cannot go home until he reaches the required number of missions, but the
required number of missions always increases. It s impossible to enter Major Major s office if he s in
it, but you can talk to him in his office when he s not in the office. The initial uses of Catch 22 is that
of a comedic device that revels in the absurdity of the world. Our ability to twist logic for our own
means entertains us in the novelty of what can result from it. As the book draws to a close, however,
Catch 22 starts being used with a distinctively different connotation, shown when Yossarian escapes to
Rome. There, upon entering the

Speech On Grief And Grief
I know think are confusing right now Hamlet and your father just died but before you do anything, I
want to explain why your feeling what your feeling. Hamlet, it s tough to tell what you re suffering
from but presumably grief or grieving. The reason it is tough to tell is that it is possible you could also
have a mental condition called clinical depression. The reason however it is more likely grieving and
not depression is because before your father died you re but after your father died, your uncle
Claudius said you had change of heart , which is indicative of the fact that before your father died you
were not as moody and depressed. Grief essentially means that you feel as if darkness and gloominess,
a deep sorrow especially caused by death. Some of the symptoms of the grief include mood swings,
dismal and depressive thoughts and social isolation and all of which you illustrate throughout your
story. Your grief has been compounded and building up since your fathers death. Your uncle says that
it is weak and unmanly to wallow in your grief for so long, and your mother is not sympathetic of your
grief and that you should his your signs of mourning.
So what should you do? Well for starters an excellent idea would be to move away from the thing that
is the root or source of your grief, which, would be your father and your family. Claudia does not want
you to express your grief because he views them as inappropriate and your mother does not want you
to make a scene, so by suppressing your emotions you are making it worse. I know that your mother
does not want you to leave to Wittenberg because she believes you will adjust in time, but you are not
going to adjust if the issue is shoved in your face every day. The next things after that would be being
allowed to express your feelings and be melancholy and gloomy. You will probably move through the
5 stages of grief: Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. According to Lydia Snyder, a

I Was A Strange Person
I was a strange person. Most view themselves as being strange, but I was constantly pointed out as
being very, very strange. Well, firstly, I was commonly considered an anti vegan. Well, I did eat my
greens, MOM, but still I always ended up eating the mean before the green stuff. And after. And in
between. All right, I didn t eat that much greens, but... ok, I have no excuse.
Anyhow, it started in the twenty first of may. I was just out in the sun as usual, lying comfortably on a
patch of grassy grass grass. I like grass, sure, but id never eat the stuff. I mean, why would you ever
eat something GREEN? Man, what a strange thing to do.
As I was lying there, absorbed in the thought of how human emotion works, I noticed something in
the bright sky. Something seemed to be... falling? Well, there was a blob of smoke behind it, so it must

Essay On Pain Control
Pain control in the older adult is essential to prevent emotional distress. There are several pain
controlling medications that are available, but only a portion of them can be used safely in older
people. Pain control should be optimized for each individual patient with measures to reduce narcotics
overdose, and also minimize adverse events. Chronic pain is a growing epidemic of the elderly and is
the most common reason why most elderly patient are seen in the clinic. Many older adults are
vulnerable to suffering from arthritis, pressure ulcers, cancer pain, fibromyalgia fracture from a fall,
age related joint disease, dental sources and many other types of chronic disease that may be
associated with pain. These pains can lead to things like the loss of independence, lack of sleep,
anxiety and or a reduced quality of life (Prommer Ficek, 2012). Estimates vary, but most suggest that
between 80 to 90 percent of people over the age of 65 have at least one chronic disease. Pain from a
fracture is one of the most common health conditions that may contribute to functional disability.
Therefore, it needs to be addressed to reduce the disability. Untreated pain could also cause an

The merit increase is normally given on th e basis of an employees having achieved some objective

Merit pay plans establish an effort performance and performance reward link, if an employee s effort

based on the collaborative performance of a team of employees. Unlike individual incentive plans

Multilingualism is easily defined as an occurrence regarding an individual or group of speaker(s) who
use(s) two or more languages, a community of speakers where two or more language are used as oral
or written form. Multilingualism basically arises to communicate with speech communities. There are
two type of multilingualism is seen in our scenario: These two type of multilingualism are: A)
Additive multilingualism and B) Subtractive multilingualism.
Additive bi/multilingualism: Additive multilingualism enriches both the languages by their usage; e.g.
if a child cherishes/nourishes other languages side by side his mother tongue too, then it is called
additive bi/multilingualism.
Subtractive multilingualism: It refers to the gradual loss of the first language as the second language
dominates learner s functional space, in which case the speaker s loyalty shifted towards acquired
language; e.g. if a child acquired second language and this language dominates upon his/her mother
tongue and he/she priorities and shifts loyalty to acquired language, then it is called subtractive
multilingualism. (Bedadur Vijay Nivedita, 2015 pp

Hot Chocolate Cookies Essay
The name of the recipe I will be making is Mexican hot chocolate cookies. The reason I chose
Mexican hot chocolate cookies is I find this cookie super unique in taste and texture compared to other
cookies. It is fairly simple to make. I learned how to make these cookies with my mother. It was not
for a special occasion, we just wanted to try a new recipe. Our family often packages the cookies,
three per bag, to take to the military base and distribute to the security forces folks on duty. They
really appreciate being thought of. They often tease my mother saying it has been too long since she
brought them by. There are stories of people hiding them from their spouse or family members. The
recipe originally appeared on Martha Stewart s website. My mother made some changes to the recipe
along the way. It is best to gather all of the ingredients and equipment before you begin to prepare the
recipe. One important tip is to set the butter on the counter for twenty minutes before starting the
recipe. We learned quickly that the temperature of the butter plays a big role in how the cookies turn
out. Consequently, if the butter is too warm the cookies spread out while baking. We determined that
somewhere between twenty and thirty minutes is best. The equipment needed for this recipe is:
Equipment: parchment paper, a medium size bowl, a large bowl, a hand mixer or stand mixer, mixing
spoon, measuring spoons, sifter, spatula, cookie scoop, fork and two cookie sheets. The

Effects Of Japanese Internment Camps
The Economics of Japanese Internment Camps The internment of Japanese Americans during the
second world war was a dark and shameful time period in American history. In regard to Japanese
internment in the United States, the economic perspective has been largely unexplored with little
research. However, with the little information available, we know of the effects of internment camp
location and the repercussions on generations of Japanese Americans, along with how Japanese
internment has impacted the United States economy and federal budget. Although the United States
first had internment camps in 1940 s, the appearance of internment camps has occurred in different
countries in the past. During World War II, concentration camps were constructed by Nazi Germany to
imprison Jews, communists, and any other threats to Nazi Germany. Conditions in the camps were
horrid, miserable, and inhumane. Prisoners were starved, overworked, beaten, and some were even
part of scientific experiments. This cruel treatment of prisoners resulted in millions of deaths
throughout Europe. However, the erection of these concentration camps also came at a monetary cost
for the German government. The German government spent over $27 billion dollars on not only the
concentration camps and war effort, but also on the reparations to families harmed during the war (
Financial, 1962). The appearance of internment camps during World War II also occurred in Canada.

Free University In Canada
Free university, the idea may seem great but in reality it creates more harm than it is
beneficial.University should not be free due to the negative economic impacts that are attached to the
concept.
The Concept of free tuition for university would eliminate student loans in Canada hence weakening
the banks of Canada and the nation s economy. Due to the interest on student loans, banks make a
significant amount of profit. Without the income from student loans, the banks of Canada will severely
be weakened. This would cause banks to make less profit, pay fewer taxes, employ a smaller amount
of employees, making fewer contributions to small businesses around Canada, and increase the

While Socialism (equality) sounds as if it were a better economic system than capitalism (equity), it is
not. With history proving that Capitalism is a better economic system. If you look at the cold war
between the U.S.S.R (a socialist country) and the U.S.A (a capitalist country) for world power, it
becomes obvious that the capitalism is better economic system then socialism. As the U.S.S.R lost the
cold war in simplest turns because they ran out of money, while their counter parts the U.S.A economy
flourished and today they are undoubtedly the world s leading power(Cold war organization). This
shows that the socialist concept of free university will hurt the Canadian economy and that capitalist
system we have now works best for a strong Canadian economy.Furthermore free university is proven
to hurt the economies of several countries. Currently there are seven countries that have switched to
free university; Germany, France, Malta the Scandinavian countries. A study done by the Brock press
on the economic impacts of free university on these countries found that directly after switching to
tuition free university the economy of these countries felt the negative impacts of free tuition for

  • 2. Cinema As An Entity Deeply Embodied With the roots of cinema as an entity deeply embodied in Europe, cinema in France was becoming less and less prominent in the 1950s leaving it in dire need of resuscitation. Meanwhile, the idea of auteurship was fast becoming established in Hollywood because it effectively conferred directors that worked with restriction on their material a somewhat lesser recognition and creative freedom in films. This formulaic approach to cinema was successful yet exhaustive as the same story patterns and effectively the same actors and directors were used through the economic resources that were at their exposal. The system effectively degraded the director s personal style and stamp on the films they produced, a problem later remedied with the introduction of the auteur policy. The monopolization approach of Hollywood meant particular individual films were bound for box office success and others less so. In 1959, Breathless by French director Jean Luc Godard was released and the film proved controversial, it raised eyebrows and to some opened eyes. The film had audiences and film critics talking and it essentially ignited the New Wave movement known as la Nouvelle Vague. Other films that massively influenced this movement were 400 Blows by François Truffaut and Hiroshima Mon Amour by Alan Resnais. The main focus of the movement was to deviate from the traditional approach of filmmaking which they considered old, boring and formulaic. Jean Luc Godard s Breathless is somewhat a ... • 3. Nureyev Dancers Analysis Some bits and pieces from the hoopla surrounding the cancelled premiere of Nureyev at the Bolshoi, coming from people close to the situation in Moscow: The most objectionable bits in the ballet were: i) a jumbo sized photograph by Richard Avedon of Nureyev naked with genitalia on full display as a prominent feature of the stage decoration ii) the performer of Nureyev s role being asked to show his naked bosom bent over with butt cheeks spread out in the scene depicting the photo shoot where the aforementioned photograph was made. Ovcharenko refused to perform naked, was allowed to wear a body colored loincloth instead, but was also relegated to the second cast in favor of the less shy Lantratov iii) a scene at the Bois de Boulogne in Paris showing a march of transvestites: men on high heels wearing colorful clothes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there were several other factors that contributed to the chaos. Originally, the ballet was scheduled to premier in the 2017/18 season, giving Possokhov Co. ample time. Instead, Bolshoi s big premiere for this year was the new Anna Karenina by John Neumeier, a co production with the Hamburg and the Canada ballet companies. However, this Karenina faced delays of its own, and Bolshoi s head of planning Irina Chernomurova (director Vladimir Urin s wife), being a great friend of Neumeier, decided to accommodate him and moved Karenina s Bolshoi premiere into the next season, asking Possokhov to accelerate his work plan and get Nureyev ready for this summer. Along the way, to keep things even clearer for Neumeier, the Bolshoi decided to sacrifice the revival of La Phille du Pharaon, also originally considered for the 2017/18 season. So, poor planning by Bolshoi s leadership all around, which seems to be getting progressively ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Testament Of The Old Testament God Essay Throughout the Old Testament God continually manifests himself to humanity. When He is speaking to the prophets, leaders, or the nation of Israel, He presents opportunities for obedience in the form of covenants. Faithfulness is also needed to secure an association with God. Obedience is probably the most difficult aspect of mankind s relationship with God. These covenants are the essential promises and pacts between God and humanity. I will present evidence from each of the Four Canons (Pentateuch, History, Poetry /Wisdom, and Prophets) from the Old Testament that our best is only possible by obeying God. [PENTATEUCH] The Pentateuch or otherwise known as the Torah is a five part literary composition. These compositions contain the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The main story is about the founding of Israel and their exodus out of Egypt. In Genesis 9: 11 17, there is one of the covenants God made with man, Noah. First of all, what is a covenant? A covenant is an agreement and union between two individuals. Conditional and unconditional are the two basic types. In a conditional (bilateral) covenant, both parties need to fulfill it. An unconditional (unilateral) covenant only one of the parties must act, and nothing else is required from the other. This covenant was made after God had flooded the earth due to man s wickedness and evil. God wanted no part of a relationship with mankind. Noah, who had been always humble and faithful, was spared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The State Council Of The Peoples Republic Of China The State Council of the Peoples Republic of China violates the Hong Kong Basic Law by purposefully creating a pro Beijing majority in the Hong Kong Election Committee and thus denies citizens participation in the election of their Chief Executive. This social injustice forms part of a larger social justice struggle whereby the autonomy of Hong Kong is slowly being eroded by Central Government control. Hong Kong citizens have long been discontent with the Chinese Central Government over concerns about their long term political freedom. Many believe in the principles set forth by their British colonisers: capitalism, free trade and freedom of speech. In contrast, China believes in communism by means of a one party state and censorship. As a result of the huge disparity of social, economic and political freedoms between Hong Kong and China, Hong Kong citizens have developed their own sense of national pride, a type of Hong Kong centric identity that celebrates their autonomy from the Central Government (Leung). Indeed a 2011 poll found that 67% of Hong Kong citizens considered them Hong Kong people first and Chinese second showing the deep rootedness of the cultural divide that exists between Hong Kong and China (The University of Hong Kong). Meanwhile, the People s Republic of China and its citizens have never accepted Hong Kong as a separate state; the reason for which lies in China s history. When the British won the Opium Wars, they forced China into an unequal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Luck Of Ginger Coffey Essay In Brian Moore s The Luck of Ginger Coffey, the city of Montreal is depicted as being in a kind of stasis, its landscape and inhabitants repeatedly described as frozen and stagnant: Four forty five. Office workers, waiting release as the minute hand moved slowly towards the hour, looked at the darkness beyond their windows and saw edges of frosting begin to mist the panes (Moore 117). Despite this passage s emphasis on stillness, however, it nevertheless features two references to time. Throughout Moore s novel, attention is repeatedly paid to specific times or time frames, complicating the underlying image of Montreal as a city averse to progress. Considering the subjectiveness of the third person limited narration, it seems best to examine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The profession of the contemporary newspaper typist saw a change in corporate culture wherein the clock became a powerful object, owned only by the foreman and governing the employees. It seems, however, that Moore s depiction of time is more appropriately a reflection of Ginger s fixation on the myth of the new world as a land of boundless opportunity. Indeed, the clock does seem to be independent of the diurnal cycle: As [Coffey] started off, the sun moved west, unadmitted by the pall clouds which all day had curtained the frozen river and the city islanded within it . . . Four forty five (117). This image of the sun being blocked from the city by clouds demonstrates the city s apparent ignorance for the sun s position in the sky, yet the passage continues on, repeatedly referring to the passing minutes as Coffey makes his way to the Tribune. One thing that time does not seem so independent from, however, is the lives of the office workers in the financial district, waiting release as the minute hand moved slowly towards the hour (117). At five o clock . . . down came the office workers, spilling out into the streets (117); at five thirty . . . [another] policeman . . . invited Coffey to cross [the street] (117). In this passage, the connection between time and nature has been completely severed and time has become reappropriated as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Theme Of Marriage By Gregory Corso Marriage What causes people to contemplate marriage? Many would like to believe the answer is love, but that is not always the case. People who think of an ideal marriage would think of two people loving each other and sharing a personal bond or goals together. Marriage is usually defined as the legally or formally recognized union of two lovers as partners in a personal relationship. This suggests there is an actual connection between two people in marriage, but do people actually consider this when committing to love and support their partners forever? As research and studies have shown, people ultimately get married for the incorrect reasons, in which love is not included or even a part of. This philosophy can be easily applied to the short poem, Marriage by Gregory Corso. In this emotional poem, the author argues marriage is more effectively understood or known for culture and convenience rather than through the abstract considerations of love. Corso finds himself confused multiple times, wondering if he should marry to not be lonely, for tradition and for his physical and mental health. He disregards love, a relationship or a connection with his future wife. The author ponders the decision weighing the options. He highlights which ones are the right and which ones are the incorrect reasons, according to his opinion. General ways of convenience like coping with loneliness, health and economic status, and navigating cultural stereotypes and religion are often the true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Similarities Between Aristotle And Hobbes What is the natural condition of man according to Aristotle and Hobbes? Please compare. Aristotle and Thomas Hobbes, both significant figures in the world of philosophy, are separated by 19 centuries, and their theories are as far from each other. To be more precise, Aristotle s and Hobbes s ideas of the nature of man are opposite, which was underlined by Hobbes himself in his Leviathan work. I believe, that scarce anything can be more absurdly said in natural philosophy than that which now is called Aristotle s Metaphysics; nor more repugnant to government than much of that he hath said in his Politics; nor more ignorantly than a great part of his Ethics (III, 669). After these words, there are no doubts that, being familiar with Aristotle s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starting with the main idea: unlike Aristotle, Hobbs rejects any statements about the man as a social creature. He states, that a man is an individual, and he only collaborates with other men because of the instinct, because of the desire to survive. All men are equal, which is one more contradiction with Aristotle, and all men are competitive. By himself man is an egoistic, willing the best for himself, like power and wealth, but avoiding any kind of sufferings. When all men are the same, all men are like this, there are constant conflicts, which is considered to be a natural state, according to Hobbes. Every man is willing to take control over the others, the instinct of self preservation prevails in a man s nature. This statement leads to the conclusion, that the natural state of man is a state of war. In this state every man is against every man and everyone would just kill each other, but the only thing that stops them and controls is an authority. Hobbes suggests that every State needs an absolute ruler, absolute monarchy. He claims that because of the fear people keep the laws of this absolute monarch, so only a stable government can keep people from their natural state, which is bellum omnium contra omnes {war of all against ... • 9. Day Camp Reflection Paper Observation This summer I worked at Camp Cory as a Day Camp Coordinator. This experience came with many difficulties, one of the positives was working with counselors from other countries, including Spain, England, Brazil, Colombia, and Scotland. In my opinion, some of my best co counselors were the international counselors. During the eight weeks I was there, I worked with four international co counselors to facilitate a day camp group and worked closely with several others. Working with counselors from other countries, we shared our different values and learned about each other cultures. Even though we were from different backgrounds, we grew together, learn to work together despite our differences and became a family together. There were a few challenges that had to be worked through, one being a language barrier or in many cases an accent barrier. For some of the international workers, English was not their first language, or if it was, they had an accent that was difficult to understand. The language and accent barrier created miscommunication and funny conversations. There are many examples that I could write about, however my favorite and the one that impacted me the most has to be from week eight. I was working on inventorying the fused beads or the iron beads, with one of the international works from Brazil. We were counting the peg board or the thing that beads go on and then you iron, anyways we came to one that shaped like a dolphin and we got into a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The United States And The Civil War Starting in 1865, the United States began to experience a series of changes and transformations that completely altered the landscape of the country. On the political side, the federal government had to deal with the aftermath of the Civil War and faced the challenge of reintegrating southern states back into the union while also attempting to institute desegregation movements in the South. From a social standpoint, almost four million slaves were freed by the end of the Civil War and in search of a better life, while a wide majority of women saw their roles begin to change as there was a 307% increase in women joining labor forces from 1880 1930. Meanwhile on the economic side, the entire nation was undergoing the most significant industrial expansion to date, which would completely alter everyday life. All of these profound and rapid changes left American citizens in a state of disarray and in search for order, as they worried about how these changes would affect their lives and social statuses. This growing paranoia among American citizens, especially in the upper class, culminated with laws and court rulings being passed that ultimately favored the wealthy elites and prevented these changes from taking power away from the hands of the people that already had control. Although there were many instances from 1865 to the start of the 20th century that can illustrate the country s search for order, the most significant example can be drawn from a decision made by the ... • 11. Mexican People And Misrepresented In The Mexican People Many times, Mexican people are misrepresented in the media whether it s a person writing a racist remark on social media, the president speaking ill of Mexican people, or just people blaming Mexican s for stealing jobs from them that they didn t want to do in the first place. Even the Mexican people born in the United States are criticized just as much as immigrants are because of their race, name, or just because they may look like the typical Mexican to other people but how can someone try to marginalize other documented citizens for such simple characteristics? It s sad and upsetting to see how a single person can corrupt most individuals to believe such remarks made towards my Mexican community to get votes for a presidential election. Trump as we all know it has made many remarks towards Mexicans while running for office and this sparked a racial conflict between Mexicans vs the people who support his mindless verbal attacks, when Trump was running for office he made this remark that stood out to me a lot, When Mexico sends its people, they re not sending their best... They re sending people that have lots of problems, and they re bringing those problems with us. They re bringing drugs. They re bringing crime. They re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people . Mexico does not send anyone, Mexican people must fight against desert climates and a dangerous river known to Mexican people as El Rio Grande (the Grande river) that travels for miles to get across the ... • 12. Explore How the Theme of Isolation Is Used in of Jane Eyre... I will be exploring how the theme of isolation is used throughout the novel Jane Eyre written by Charlotte Bronte, with particular focus on the opening chapters. When Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre in 1847, it became an immediate bestseller. It contained themes of which were previously rarely brought to light and of which many believed to be controversial, such as women s place in the Victorian society, of which Bronte lived in. Jane Eyre was written in first person narrative. This technique immediately allows the reader to relate to and connect with the main character s emotions and experiences, and her isolation. In this book, the author, Charlotte Bronte, has chosen to take an almost autobiographical approach to the plot. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reading her volume, Jane takes particular notice of certain aspects of the book, such as: the solitary rocks and promontories and the bleak shores . This could be yet another subtle reflection of her life, and the direct reference to solitariness shows her introverted lifestyle and personality. Charlotte Bronte then goes onto describe how the clear panes of glass, were protecting, but not separating me [Jane] from the drear November day . This could be interpreted as meaning that although Jane is protected from the realities of life outside Gateshead, as she is always isolated inside the house and its grounds, she is not really separated from the harsh realities of life itself, as she believes she is suffering a much more cruel life locked inside. The use of sympathetic background, in the description of the drear November day the other side of the window directly reflects the disposition of her own life, and therefore endorses the previous statements. Afar, it offered a pale blank of mist and cloud; near a scene of wet lawn and storm beat shrub, with ceaseless rain sweeping away wildly before a long and lamenting blast. • 13. Comparison Between The Code Of Hammurabi And Hammurabi Can rules be fair, but morally incorrect? In other words, can rules show fairness, but be unjust. Two sets of laws in ancient history come to mind when this question arises. Those two laws are The Code of Hammurabi and the Bible s laws. Hammurabi s legal code (The Code of Hammurabi) was established between 1894 and 1595 B.C. (Barratt et al., 2017). The Code of Hammurabi was a set of 282 laws dealing with a wide variety of interactions, and an epilogue filled with curses applying to anyone in the future who may change, efface, or subvent Hammurabi s divinely ordained legislation (Cook 3). The Code of Hammurabi may have shown fairness to a degree, but the Bible s early laws are more just than what King Hammurabi perceived his laws to be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, he states, By the command of Shamash, the great judge of heaven and earth, let righteousness go forth in the land: by the order of Marduk, my lord let no destruction betail my monument ( The Code of Hammurabi ). The differences between the two laws go even deeper with the value of life. For example, if a man strikes the daughter of another and causes miscarriage, he shall pay ten shekels (Student Handout 2.2 Documents from Mesopotamia). With a law like that, it begs to question if Hammurabi would pay ten shekels for the life of his own child. However, the Bible s law on the subject brings more justice to that situation. For example, If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman s demands and the court allows (NIV Exodus 21:22). It continues by stating, But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise (NIV Exodus 21:22). By the difference in the two laws, The Code of Hammurabi seems like it has a class for every walk of life. Hammurabi seemed to have boasted a lot in his own abilities. He seemed to have created a perception that he was the upper class of humanity. For example, he states, My words are well considered; there is no wisdom like unto mine ( The Code of Hammurabi ). The worlds cultures display so much variety of family that it is difficult to base it off of common elements. The western world regards family as a wife, husband, and children. Other countries or groups, though, have family forms consisting of more than one wife or vice versa. A broad definition of family is when certain people consider themselves related by blood, marriage, or adoption. • 18. Wilfred Owen Hero s Journey For Sassoon, the deterioration of a pastoral English dream into a garish mournful nightmare is an interior phenomenon attributable to the horrible experiences of martial life. In the poetry of Wilfred Owen, conversely, it is war that literally disfigures the once nourishing earth corrupting it until the very mud of the field is as threatening as the guns of the enemy. As Sandra Gilbert explains, the landscape of the war was barely a landscape in the ordinary sense of the word, but rather a gigantic charnel house (Gilbert 184). Thus, while a soldier might dream of Thomas Hardy s England as we have seen Sassoon do, the reality of his surroundings was its near antithesis. Further, quoting Eric Leed, Gilbert asserts that while [t]he battlefield ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This way, if to the living the once picturesque fields of Flanders portend only death and anguish, then those same fields seem to offer an absurd, pastoral oasis to the dead. We see this much in Owen s Apologia Pro Poemate Meo, where we learn that the poem s narrator, in death, saw God through mud (1). Where in Miners the earth threatens to consume and extinguish the soldier, here after his demise it offers freedom. We see this, for example, when the narrator cannot help but admit how [m]erry it was to laugh there in the earth, [w]here death becomes absurd and life absurder (5 6). While living, the narrator continues, power was on us as we slashed bones bare / Not to feel sickness or remorse of murder; in death, the soldiers have dropped off Fear...[a]nd witnessed exultation (7 9, 13). In surrendering to the earth, therefore, the narrator seems to permanently achieve a pastoral escapism akin to those in which we have already seen Sassoon and Owen attempt. Another aim of this paper is to support the idea that Stephen Crane portrays in his novella life just at it is. The main concepts of this essay are realism and naturalism. American realism is characterized through verisimilitude of detail, effort to approach the norm of experience, greater diversity in subject matter and tries to move away from romance and self creating fictions. This is because every different records creator will use different terms in order to show the same or closely meaning. (b) Directories As File Plans There is a strong argument about the transmitting physical directories of files and filing system into the electronic channel. Since the emergence of technology, the names of files and directories cannot be secure. Besides that, this directory structure must be attached within the metadata. During a time where the role of women was contained, Elizabeth I of England proved her power and remained the only unmarried queen in England s history. Many of the most memorable moments of Catch 22 are indisputably hilarious. One such example is Colonel Cathcart, an indecisive squadron leader obsessed with his own self image. The darker implications of Cathcart s actions reflect twistedly on the humor of those first scenes. These cherished, humorous moments of the book cannot be laughed at anymore without a sense of unease. This evolution of scenes is especially clear with the novel s name.
