What Impact Did the Major Political, Economic and Social...
Japan s goal of achieving fukoku kyohei, rich country; strong military , fuelled major political,
economic and social changes during the Meiji Restoration. By the 20th century, Japan had a modern
constitution and national parliament, though it was not truly democratic. The modernization of the
nation also made Japan richer and more economically stable, with a structured education system.
Japan, an impotent, closed feudal state, was transformed into a formidable nation focused on
nationalism. In attempt to acquire strength and unity in the government, political changes focused on
creating a centralized government and a western constitution. In consequence, the Japanese
government became more united and organized. As the western ... Show more content on

By the end of the Meiji Restoration, Japan had taken its inevitable part in the international scene. As
the government and economy adjusted, the society took on many changes as well, such as the
adoption of the Western culture, a reform in the education system, and the instillation of nationalism in
Japan. The desire to be perceived as an equal by Westerners resulted in the adoption of the Western
culture in the Japanese society. There were changes in the fashion as well as food and cuisine. Western
style haircuts were ubiquitous in the Japanese streets during 1870, while the introduction to bread,
beef and dairy products made their way to the community subsequently. With the aim of a modernized
society, the Meiji government also found an organized education system a vital aspect, thus instituting
the Terokoya system. This change in education also launched the establishment of the Ministry of
Education, which had an aim of providing education for all people. In 1868, almost 13,000 terakoyas
were constructed with 837,000 students. (Miocevich, 30) By 1910, an immense advancement was
made, as 98% of Japanese students were given compulsory education. (Miocevich, 30) Clearly, the
Japanese had made education a priority. Finally, nationalism was probably the most prominent change
in the Japanese society during the Meiji Restoration. As Japan grew stronger as a

Similarly, some of the risks associated with having virtual teams are: The cost involved with
technology: Technology plays a key role in helping virtual teams interact and depending on the type of
technology an organization chooses their cost vary. Team collaboration issues: Working in a virtual
team setup brings with it challenges such as trust issues, accountability issues, ownership issues,
conflicts and lack of collaboration between team members. If managers and leadership do not manage
such situations well, any benefit associated with virtual teams can quickly be diminished Social
isolation and low productivity: Since most of the interactions with virtual teams tend to be task
oriented this can lead to social isolation within the teams. Lack of physical interaction with team
members further degrades the productivity of the team. Managers can build effective strategies to
mitigate the risks associated with virtual teams and build strong, well rounded productive teams. This
paper outlines the strategies the manager can leverage to build strong virtual teams. The strategies

New England Colonies Dbq Analysis
Today s world portrays countries that each have distinct characteristics religiously as well as
economically. In the British colonies before 1700, the colonies could be dispersed into two distinct
regions, the Chesapeake colonies, and New England colonies. Both areas varied in religion and
economy, and thrived in different ways. For the New England colonies, the offering of religious
freedom and an end to persecution in England caused many Puritans to sail to New England.
However, the main motivation for people going to the Chesapeake colonies was to get rich fast, as
well as other economic goals. All in all, the distinct traits of different regions of the continental British
colonies caused the creation of two very distinct territories. In ... Show more content on

For colonists of New England, religion was undoubtedly the most important factor for migrating to the
New World. The promise of no persecution of Puritans caused Puritans to flock to the New World
quickly, and to do so with their entire family. Chesapeake colonies were settled largely by young,
white males seeking to become wealthy in the New World through farming. However, land was given
away by how many people one had in their family, as well as how many slaves the person brought
over, so the wealthy still received the most land. All in all, the distinct differences of these two regions
created two places that seemed to have characteristics so contrasting that they could be different
countries, even though they were united through their British heritage and

My Personal Statement On Elementary Education
I was home on leave after serving 15 months in Iraq, spending time with my family and connecting
with people I haven t seen in a while. My mother arranged for me to speak to my brother s 3rd grade
class since they had written letters to me while I was deployed. It was something I felt that I owed
since the letters were cheerful and really helped when I was over there. I was a bit nervous because I
have never done something like this before, public speaking was not a strong suit of mine. While
visiting with the students and answering questions I fell in love with being in the classroom. After
finishing my commitment to the military, I continued my education and got my degree in Elementary
Education. I am currently finishing up my 3rd year in teaching 2nd grade and love every minute of it.
Critical thinking is something that should be taking place during every lesson. I engage my students in
this higher level order thinking by asking multi level questions that may have more than one answer. I
also foster thoughtful discussions during out social learning lessons, such as encouraging healthy
debate. Being able to communicate and elaborate their thinking is important. Because I teach at the
primary level so sometimes in order to get students to engage in critical thinking, I have to model it
through discussion or through work. In the discussion, I use various questioning strategies and use
various introductory phrases in order get students to open up and reveal that they are

Historical Perspectives of Abnormal Psychology
For many years, various forms of madness have been noted in every culture. Multitudes of theories, as
well as some myths, have been developed to explain such conditions. Society s opinion on what was
considered abnormal was based on such phenomenon as paranormal forces, the anger of the gods, the
influence of the moon, unstable personality, hereditary factors, and debauchery (Frude, 1998). History
shows that theorists continue to develop a variety of theories to explain psychological disorders. These
theories usually fall in one of three basic categories: mystical/supernatural (possession of ... Show

Scientific advances in mental illness were virtually nonexistent during the Middle Ages. Spiritual
causes ruled, and those with psychological disorders were classified as morally weak, or were accused
of forbidden practices, such as those associated with witchery, sorcery, and the devil (Damour Hansell,
2005). Witch hunts were more common at the height of the 14th and 15th centuries in Europe,
accusing many of the mentally ill of practicing witchcraft. Various attempts were made over the years
to encourage just treatment of the mentally ill, and various voices of reason attempted to eliminate the
stigma of abnormal behavior.
Emil Kraepelin began using scientific methods to classify mental disorders by concentrating on the
biological characteristics of mental disorders (Frude, 1998). Kraepelin s approach resulted in a closer
alliance between psychiatry and medicine, believing that a chemical imbalance was to blame for
schizophrenia and that a metabolism abnormality caused manic depression (Frude, 1998). Numerous
core concepts in psychology have influenced explanations of abnormal behavior. Models for
explaining abnormal behavior throughout history (historical relativism), and the principle of stressing
the assimilation of different perspectives (multiple causality) have helped differentiate between
predisposing and precipitating causes of abnormal behavior. The connection between mind and body
has become the most modern model, signifying that both biological

Marketing Plan For Grocery Markets
Introduction
There is an ongoing competition for grocery markets offering natural products for lower prices. Top
competing grocery markets have followed trends to lower prices, but this may become a problem in
the future. Customers may be concerned with the high costs of products; consequently they perceive
these same products with lower values. According to BusinessDictionary.com, perceived value Is
defined as a customer s opinion of a product s value to him or her (WWWebTek). Customers evenly
match price with value. If the products cost is low the quality in the product will be perceived as a
lower quality. Perceived value may be seen as three of the following levels: not enough value with low
price, customer s perceived value is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem remains that we struggle to maintain a competitive advantage, when stores like Sprouts,
Costco, and Trader Joes continually lowering their prices meanwhile our prices remain the same. I
propose a real and practical suggestion that will fix our continuous struggle against our intrusive
competitors, by improving our price perception.
Overview
Improving our price perception can fix our current conflict with our aggressive competitors in the
market to sale natural foods. For a while our company has been referred to as The Whole Pay Check ,
because of our high prices for natural products (Npr.org). Unfortunately, we have been perceived this
way because of our prices and that is something we aim to change. We must focus on improving our
price perception instead of reducing our prices. As a company, We recognize we need to move faster
and go deeper to rebuild traffic and sales and create a solid foundation for our long term profitable
growth, said Mackey, who was recently named one of the world s best performing CEOs by the
Harvard Business Review ( Austin Business Journal). Our goals for the future demands a new change
that we should definitely accept this proposal to improve our price perception rather than lowering our
prices , which results in less growth and no competitive advantage.
Analysis
Our competitors also offer natural products, And if everyone is offering organic food, and most are
offering it at

Being A Child Of The 90 s Full House Essay
Being a child of the 90 s, Full House was a very popular show for my generation. Least to say when I
saw a spin off, Fuller House was being released this past year to Netflix I was extremely excited.
Coincidently, the spin off released during the time of this course. Believe it or not, I immediately
referenced parenting styles to the episode where DJ Tanner punishes her son a little differently than
Kimmy Gibler punishes her daughter, although the committed the same crime. I am hoping to dissect
this exact scene, and discuss DJ parenting style towards her son. I find the parenting styles really
interesting, specifically the four we discussed in module four and I really want to focus on that here.
Earlier in the course, we discussed Darling four parenting styles and for some reason, these really
stuck with me. The parenting style theory reflects four different types of parents. Indulgent parents
tend to more responsive than they are demanding (Darling) I like to think of indulgent parents as what
todays generation thinks of as cool parents . They tend to be more lenient and let the child do as they
please because they want to avoid confrontation. Darling also discusses Authoritarian and
Authoritative parents which are slightly different. Authoritarian style parents, are a little over barring.
To me, I would consider this style to be a bulldozer parent. Authoritarian style parents are very
demanding and very directive. They expect the child to do what they re told,

Poisonwood Bible Comparison
Throughout many novels different characters are sent to a new place to explore and find new things in
life. An excellent example would be how the characters in the novel Poisonwood Bible explore a new
lifestyle in the Congo. While they are there they have to learn how to adapt to a new life, and they try
and teach the Congolese people how to worship the God, Jesus Christ. Even though the Congolese
people may believe in different Gods, the Price family, especially Nathan feels that it is their duty to
teach them different ways. Thus the poem We Grow Accustomed To The Dark by Emily Dickinson, is
similar because it is talking about how people become accustomed to a different lifestyle just like the
Price family did in the Poisonwood Bible. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This further impacted the children Rachel and Leah, being the oldest daughters in the family. Rachel
was a daughter that loved her father and she at first felt that he was the best person in the world. She
would always follow him around and be his little princess, that was until she started to see the bad
things that he started doing in the dark, mysterious place they were living in. She started to see how
arrogant and defensive he became throughout the community and how he threw hissy fits. She
realized that enough was enough and she needed to grow accustomed to this new place by herself, just
like the narrator did in the poem. This is because she knew that her dad was just going insane and he
wanted too much power. She now felt bad for her mom and what he had done to her, and wanted to
side with her mom to get out of the community that they were in because they had enough of it.
Another thing that happened in the Congo while she was there was something absurd and scarring to
say the least. Her sister had started to hunt with the men for meat and Rachel saw what they did when
they killed the poor animals lives. Rachel was so startled and appalled that she had to become a
vegetarian for a short time while they were there. This just shows that she had to adapt to a new
lifestyle because she could not think of eating a poor animal that had an innocent life, but her sister
Leach could have cared

A Brief Note On The Federal Aviation Agency Essay
dministration (FAA) is a federal agency within the United States Department of Transportation.
The Federal Aviation Administration was first named the Federal Aviation Agency . The Federal
Aviation Agency was established when the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 was created. With the
creation of the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 it then gave more responsibilities to the FAA. These
responsibilities included complete control of oversight and regulation for safety within the aviation
industry. And the FAA was also responsible for military and civilian aircrafts within American
airspace. This was a great idea because it s better to have one agency overseeing both entities to
ensure accuracy and safety. Since there is one agency responsible for oversight this will lead to faster
problem solving because this agency has the final say and it does not have to rely or get a
confirmation from another agency about a particular issue relating to American airspace. The Federal
Aviation Agency name was changed to the Federal Aviation Administration when the United State
Department of Transportation adopted the Federal Aviation Agency. *** you input: collabration,

Who Is Lenin A Political Genius
Introduction Vladimir Lenin, who became the leader of the Bolshevik in the time of the Russian
Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) in 1903, claimed to be a traditional Marxist. People such as

against the statement that Lenin was a political genius. Lenin was a master at manipulation and
opportunity which came when he discovered Marx s work. The division in arguments occurs,
however, when one attempts to define genius due to his careless actions in which he destroyed the
working class . The traditional and generally accepted view of Lenin is that he had a great ability to

power, which is why the word genius might be used lightly . Lenin was merciless when it came to
being an instinctive politician and practitioner of revolution he wanted to maintain his political power
and gain more, but was inconsistent, unorthodox and indecisive when it came to political thought and
theories which was why historians do not now how to picture Lenin. He is seen , not a theorist of

Adaptability In The Shawshanks Redemption
. What does your film suggest about an individual s adaptability in the face of challenges? For any
individual, enduring hardships and facing challenges can be inevitable. These challenges often leave
marks on our souls, creating lasting impressions on an individual. In order to grow into a stronger
person, it is crucial for an individual to be efficient at handling these challenges that life brings in. In
the film The Shawshanks Redemption, Andy Dufresne a bank employee, is falsely convicted of
murder, and then later incarcerated into Shawshank prison where he would serve two life sentences. In
Shawshank, Andy is put through emotional, physical, and mental challenges as he struggles to prove
himself innocent and adapt into the environment he is forced into. These rough times in prison helped
him later adopt a moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

After the warden heard the truth about Andy s innocence, he refused to approve Andy s witness, and

Andy begged for a appeal and got rejected he yelled , It s my life. Don t you understand? IT S MY
LIFE . Andy suffered by the hands of the warden and had his life taken away from him. No matter
what he did for the warden, he was not given the justice he deserved. The corrupt environment had
taken away his chance of freedom. Consequently, Andy s will to escape grew more and more
passionate since he knew that staying in Shawshank would mean that he would never to be able to
pursue his life`s goals and live the life he wants. When an individual fails to adapt to an environment,
they set out goals for themselves in order to change their lifestyle into one that they would be more

Examples Of Racism In Coach Boone
Coach boone handled, and eventually defeated, racism on his team by: making the players learn about
each other, The made a starting lineup based on skill and not race, and bringing the community
together under one team instead of one race. After an attempt to decrease racism by busing in african
american children to a school, a new head football coach comes to the school. The coach is struggling
with racism and breaking the barriers left by segregation. Segregation was ended in the 1960s and
implementing mixed race schools caused a lot of backlash from the racist white communities. The
new coach, Coach Boone, is african american. This complicates things because not many from the
community or the school are willing embrace all races.
To begin, Coach Boone starts off the season by making the players learn about each other. This helps
to defuse the racism by getting the players to learn their likes and dislikes. This helps them bond and
realize that they have a lot in common, which brings them closer. The movie also shows Coach Boone
making non segregated dorms. After the camp, the players learned that the only thing they didn t have
in common was the color of their skin. Coach Boone began his campaign to end the racism by making
the players learn about each other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows his team that he isn t racist, and the players can t use race as an excuse for not being put on
the starting lineup. That knowledge defuses racism on the team by removing the thought that the team
decisions were made with race in mind. Also, Gary cut a player who was white and his friend with the
approval of Coach Boone because he wasn t playing up to standard. This shows that Coach Boone
won t just cut people because of race or that he doesn t like them, but because they weren t good
enough. Coach Boone choose his lineup based on skill and continued to do it until the end leveling the

Textual Analysis Of Blade Runner
Ridley Scott s Blade Runner stands to be one of the most influential piece of filmmaking throughout
the history of cinema. Although considered underwhelming initially by polarizing critics and audience
alike, the film gained an immense cult following and was soon regarded as one of the best science
fiction films of all time. The film put hard sci fi into the mainstream, and gave life to Cyberpunk
aesthetic all in all by combining the engaging and focused ideas of neo noir with themes and pacing of
early European art house films. Even today, the themes and the question the film poses garner a great
deal of discussion.
So, here we are, after 35 years of the original release, seven versions of the original and countless
theories and speculations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s not like the film lacks interesting themes or ambitious ideas, just that it lacks the elegance in the
portrayal of these ideas. The elegance that made the original stand out and work in the first place. The
original s experiment with incorporation of literally themes, such as classical Greek Dramas and
weird, almost fantastical elements from Samuel Buckett s Theatre of the Absurd is what set it apart.
These vague, hard to grasp concepts sell this unlived and unimaginable world the movie is trying to
sell. The audience has never personally faced a moral conundrum like the film poses, yet it s effective
due to its delivery. 2049, however, is an insanely high budget, highly publicized modern film with
producers who want to make their money back. Hence, the movie drops the original s ambitious
vagueness, for something more easily digestible. The ideas presented are not given enough depth, and
a more conventional plot structure is given preference over a more thematic one. The film seems to be
scared to continue the conversation the first movie brings up, and rather revels in the ones already

Getting oneself out on the market is the most important part of getting a new job. In order to do this, a
person must market themselves. In order to properly market themselves, a potential candidate has to
know the resources in which to present themselves as good employee material. It is always a good
idea to have a plan in place of the places that employment is desired. Then research those companies
and determine what the best way to present a resume is. It is always a good idea to research the

After finishing the online application, I sent the HR Director my resume along with a cover letter and
let them know that I also filled out my application online, and for what position and location I applied
for. Another company that I researched that I wanted to work for is Poly One. This company makes
and sell Polyurethane Resins for use in plastic tubing and other application that take plastic. I worked
there as a temp several years ago and I enjoyed my time there. They have a very good compensation
package, benefits, the company does things for the employees such as gives the employees yearly
bonuses and every quarter each employee receives a check from BFI for recycling. Just like with Ford,
their online application is long and you must know exactly what position it is you are looking for. I
applied online and emailed my resume to the Director of Human Resources. Mittal Steel is the third
company on my list. I already knew a little bit about this company because Mittal Steel in Cleveland,
Ohio used to be LTV Steel, and I was employed with LTV Steel for close to ten years. I enjoyed
working in the steel industry as a production planner, I wanted to re visit the world of steel. I went to
their website and found it difficult to find a location or position to apply for since there are literally
thousands of online job postings. For this company, I looked up the name of the HR Manager, the

Mobile Banking for the Unbanked
In many developing countries it s common for a person to have a mobile phone but not a bank
account. In fact, more than 1 billion people fit this description, and the number is only likely to
increase. To that end, many companies are considering how to give residents access to banking
services via their handsets. The GSM Association predicts that by 2012, nearly 300 million of the
previously unbanked will be using some form of mobile banking. The mistake a lot of us make is to
look at the folks at the base of the pyramid and assume that they must need the same types of services
we need. The Harvard Business School case study Mobile Banking for the Unbanked explores two
very different examples of mobile financial service models: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A subscription model doesn t appeal to the poor at all, Rangan says. They don t want to pay a fee for
something they might not use. Moreover, more than half of South Africa s population had no access to
a bank account. This was largely because half of the population lived below the poverty line, and
banks, understandably, were not eager to serve a moneyless customer base. Banks find it an
unprofitable proposition to serve people who make less than three dollars per day, Rangan says. Still,
WIZZIT s founders thought there was a noble and viable business model in bringing banking to the
poor, via a mobile banking platform that could be used on even the most primitive cell phone. They
succeeded in finding an engineer to develop the platform, but quickly ran into a major regulatory
roadblock. Per the South African government, only licensed banks were allowed to take deposits. The
cost of a license was the equivalent of $34 million a hefty fee for a startup and the South African
Reserve Bank was wary of issuing new permits. Hence, the WIZZIT execs began searching for an
established banking partner. Time and again the top tier banks turned

Cultural Differences Between Sharia And Shaday
Different Cultures
The culture that I belong to is Christianity. What is Christianity? Well it is Abrahamic monotheistic
religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ as presented in the New Testament. Every
Sunday or every other Sunday my family and I go to church, and come back to cook Sunday dinner. I
was given the opportunity to study two different cultures that is different from mines. I had to find
someone fast, and that I did. I interviewed two of my coworkers from work on their culture. Afia is
from Libya, and Shaday is from Belize.
Before doing this project, I had known about these different places, but not a lot.
The first person I interviewed was Afia. The first question that I asked was, in Libya what is their
language? She told me she speaks Arabic, and it is main language spoken in Libya. Then I asked how
they greet each other. The handshake is commonly used, and you have to shake hands at the ... Show

despite the Constitutional Proclamation issued in 1969. One interest fact that I found really good

research I found out that we do not have anything related to my culture. Afia and I are two different

Winged Protective Deity Analysis
The work titled Winged Protective Deity hails from the Assyrian empire and was created sometime in
the early to mid 800s BCE. The Assyrian empire was located in what is today known as Northern Iraq.
Assyrians were recognized as fearsome and ruthless conquerors of the ancient near east. This relief
sculpture features a winged male figure pollinating a sacred tree and it would have decorated the walls
of Ashurnasirpal II s Northwest Palace at Calakh. Assyrian kings often commissioned relief sculptures
and paintings for their palace walls to show off their power to anyone that may enter the palace. This
work would have originally been painted but the paint has faded over time and the original color has

This would have been on the walls of Ashurnasirpal II s palace so it would have been seen by both
Assyrians or any opponents that may try to invade. The size of the work helps to enforce this idea of
power as well, this is a human sized work, the viewer is forced to confront the figure kind of face to
face; especially if they were interacting with it in its original context on the walls. Something that
shows up in Assyrian art is the idea of showing the strength of Assyrian warriors by also showing the
strength of their opponents. This can be seen in another relief sculpture from the Northwest Palace
Assyrian archers pursuing enemies, where the enemies are depicted as almost giants yet they are seen
fleeing across the Euphrates river from the Assyrian archers (Kleiner, Gardner s Art through the Ages:
The Western Perspective, p. 47). So it would make sense that sense that an Assyrian king would have
such confidence that this piece could be the same size as the viewer and yet still leave an imposing

My Life In College
Life is a winding road that goes through mountains and over water, but also through mud, ice, and
snow. What I mean by that is that life is something very short, filled with beautiful moments as well as
dark and disturbing ones (well, if we are being technical, life is the longest thing any of us will
experience). One moment that nobody can seem to decide which category it belongs in, is college.
College for some people can be this once in a lifetime experience that creates friendship, memories,
and everlasting knowledge. While for others it is absolute misery and stress. Regardless of all of that,
college is an incredibly tough decision that comes down to intelligence, money, and future careers. All
of which are choices of which many people fear to make in life. Bowling Green and Findlay
University both seem to be very sound and reasonable choices; however, Bowling Green looks to be
the better choice due to costs and their business programs. As for Bowling Green, which is my first
choice, was actually the second college I had visited. It had a massive campus, well, at least compared
to what I expected. It had hundreds of dorms and plenty of faculty to go around for the students.
Needless to say that during that first visit, I was blown away and beyond impressed with everything I
saw. So after looking more into it, there are definitely a lot of different reasons that I was even more
inclined to go there. The first thing I looked at was the tuition, which was a surprising

Social Responsibility In Greek Theatre
Throughout the different eras of theatre, the Greek, Roman, Medieval, Commedia, and Shakespearean
performers all contributed to the culture of the societies of they were in. However, the level of social
responsibility that was prevalent in these eras was dependent on whether or not government promoted
theatre as a means of enlightening the general public. As a result, the manner in which theatre was
presented contributed to the evolution of the particular society either positively or negatively. During
the era of Greek theatre, which lasted from 550 B.C. to 220 B.C., government, art, education, science,
and medicine were all viewed as equally important. Akropolis, which was the center of government
and thought, espoused the ideals of empowerment and making one s self and society better. Plays that
were performed made people ask questions in order to push society forward, and the government
created theatre in this era so that it can be critiqued. The Festival of Dionysus, which was a weeks
long festival, featured various artists from different fields showcasing their talents, including theatre
performances that ran all day. At the same time, love making and drinking was encouraged (Dionysus
is the god of wine and fertility) as a means of opening up one s state of mind. At the performances of
these plays, actors wore masks, which indicated the type of character they were, and the masks had
attachments so that people could hear what they were saying, but there was also a

Bilingualism Is A For A Regular Way Between Researchers...
To begin with, bilingualism is a term which is not used in a regular way between researchers and
theoreticians. For example Macnamara (1967; cited in Cummins and Swain, 1986:07) defines
bilinguals as those have at least one of the skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) even to a
lower degree in their second language. At the other end of the scale Oestreicher (1974; cited in
Cummins and Swain, 1986:07) defines bilinguals as those who show complete mastery of two
different languages without interference . According to Bloomfield (1933; cited in Romaine, 1989:10)
bilingualism is a native like control of two languages , it is the ability to speak two languages
perfectly. Furthermore, bilingualism was analyzed into four levels in another paper: individual, family,
societal, and school levels (McCarty, 2010). At the educational level, McCarty (2012) defines
bilingual education as bilingualism at the school level. It is not a matter of speaking two languages at
home, which is bilingualism at the family level. Bilingual education is teaching in two languages in a
school, more than one language as the medium of instruction, that is to say the use of another
language for students to learn regular school subjects. Additionally, Appel and Muysken (1987:60)
define bilingual education as the opportunity to be educated in two languages: the language of the
home and the language of other groups in the community. However, for them these two languages do

Arc Of Justice Analysis
Arc of Justice is a story of the hardships of segregation fueled by ignorance in the 1920 s. The
beginning introduces the reader into the setting of Detroit reaching its industrial peak. It then
chronicles Ossian Sweet, an African American physician. Him and his wife, Gladys, purchased a
house in a white neighborhood in hopes of a better future and a successful family. Instead, they
quickly received many threats and felt unsteady, the neighbors rejected all African American s in their
society. Raised in the South, Ossian Sweet had seen what prejudice can do to a society. Although he
attempted to escape from it, he finds himself staring racism right in the face. For a book published 80
years after the fact, Kevin Boyle does a very impressive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During that time Johnson was the general secretary of the NAACP, and knew what impact the case
would have on civil rights. Given this the NAACP aided those accused of the murder of Breiner, and a
first rate defense team was in the making. Assistant secretary Walter White was the main assistant of
NAACP to find the best attorneys (who were not prejudiced, of course). He later meets Arthur
Garfield Hays and Clarence Darrow and urges them to take the case. After agreeing they meet their
clients about a month after the accident. Boyle shows how both James Weldon Johnson and Clarence
Darrow had interior motives for defending the Sweets. Both men had a love for the spotlight, when
speaking about Darrow, Boyle writes in the glare of a high profile case he found the perfect
opportunity to attack the status quo and proclaim the modernist creed. The trial itself felt more of a
civil rights case than a criminal case. The most impressive thing in regards to the actual trial was the
performance done by Darrow. One could draw many similarities between him and To Kill A
Mockingbird s Atticus Finch. A common misconception of the courtroom is that the jury goes strictly
off of evidence when deliberating. This book clears up that false belief with the attorneys playing off
of emotion and targeting pathos. A strong argument presented by Darrow can be summarized by a few
statements he made in that courtroom. You are facing a problem of two races, a problem that will take
centuries to solve. If I felt none of you were prejudiced, I d have no fear. I want you to be as
unprejudiced as you can be. Draw upon your imagination and think how you would feel if you fired at

Lower Teacher Expectations And Stereotypes
Lower teacher expectations and stereotypes
Lower teacher expectations have been recognised to limit pupil s progress in education. Teachers are
not pushing ethnic minority pupil to achieve their potential. Ethnic minority groups are mostly entered
for foundation tier GCSE examinations which then restricts the grade that can be achieved (REMI).
This is through lower teacher expectations. Lower teacher expectations lead to pupils performing less
than their capabilities.
Wright (1992 p. 27 cited in Foster, Gomm and Hammersley, 1996) provides a clear example of
teachers not pushing pupil to achieve well due to the child s ethnic background.

This demonstrates the practices and teaching in schools. The case study relates to how ethnic
minorities may face barriers to education at school. The teacher is the one who holds power and
influences upon all the pupil in the classroom. Teachers who hold such low expectations of pupil
specifically create these. Stereotypes in which other (White) pupil in the classroom would make the

My mother arranged for me to speak to my brother s 3rd grade class since they had written letters to me while I was deployed. It was something I felt that I owed since the letters were cheerful and really helped when I was over there. Historical Perspectives of Abnormal Psychology Historical Perspectives of Abnormal Psychology Abnormal Psychology PSY 410 January 30, 2012 Historical Perspectives of Abnormal Psychology For many years, various forms of madness have been noted in every culture. Multitudes of theories, as well as some myths, have been developed to explain such conditions. Society s opinion on what was considered abnormal was based on such phenomenon as paranormal forces, the anger of the gods, the influence of the moon, unstable personality, hereditary factors, and debauchery (Frude, 1998). History shows that theorists continue to develop a variety of theories to explain psychological disorders. Scientific advances in mental illness were virtually nonexistent during the Middle Ages. Spiritual causes ruled, and those with psychological disorders were classified as morally weak, or were accused of forbidden practices, such as those associated with witchery, sorcery, and the devil (Damour Hansell, 2005). Witch hunts were more common at the height of the 14th and 15th centuries in Europe, accusing many of the mentally ill of practicing witchcraft. Various attempts were made over the years to encourage just treatment of the mentally ill, and various voices of reason attempted to eliminate the stigma of abnormal behavior. Emil Kraepelin began using scientific methods to classify mental disorders by concentrating on the biological characteristics of mental disorders (Frude, 1998). Kraepelin s approach resulted in a closer alliance between psychiatry and medicine, believing that a chemical imbalance was to blame for schizophrenia and that a metabolism abnormality caused manic depression (Frude, 1998). Numerous core concepts in psychology have influenced explanations of abnormal behavior. Models for explaining abnormal behavior throughout history (historical relativism), and the principle of stressing the assimilation of different perspectives (multiple causality) have helped differentiate between predisposing and precipitating causes of abnormal behavior. Top competing grocery markets have followed trends to lower prices, but this may become a problem in the future. Customers may be concerned with the high costs of products; consequently they perceive these same products with lower values. According to BusinessDictionary.com, perceived value Is defined as a customer s opinion of a product s value to him or her (WWWebTek). Customers evenly match price with value. If the products cost is low the quality in the product will be perceived as a lower quality. The problem remains that we struggle to maintain a competitive advantage, when stores like Sprouts, Costco, and Trader Joes continually lowering their prices meanwhile our prices remain the same. Overview Improving our price perception can fix our current conflict with our aggressive competitors in the market to sale natural foods. For a while our company has been referred to as The Whole Pay Check , because of our high prices for natural products (Npr.org). • 10. Being A Child Of The 90 s Full House Essay Being a child of the 90 s, Full House was a very popular show for my generation. Least to say when I saw a spin off, Fuller House was being released this past year to Netflix I was extremely excited. Coincidently, the spin off released during the time of this course. Believe it or not, I immediately referenced parenting styles to the episode where DJ Tanner punishes her son a little differently than Kimmy Gibler punishes her daughter, although the committed the same crime. I am hoping to dissect this exact scene, and discuss DJ parenting style towards her son. I find the parenting styles really interesting, specifically the four we discussed in module four and I really want to focus on that here. Earlier in the course, we discussed Darling four parenting styles and for some reason, these really stuck with me. The parenting style theory reflects four different types of parents. Indulgent parents tend to more responsive than they are demanding (Darling) I like to think of indulgent parents as what todays generation thinks of as cool parents . They tend to be more lenient and let the child do as they please because they want to avoid confrontation. Darling also discusses Authoritarian and Authoritative parents which are slightly different. Authoritarian style parents, are a little over barring. To me, I would consider this style to be a bulldozer parent. Authoritarian style parents are very demanding and very directive. They expect the child to do what they re told, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An excellent example would be how the characters in the novel Poisonwood Bible explore a new lifestyle in the Congo. While they are there they have to learn how to adapt to a new life, and they try and teach the Congolese people how to worship the God, Jesus Christ. Even though the Congolese people may believe in different Gods, the Price family, especially Nathan feels that it is their duty to teach them different ways. She started to see how arrogant and defensive he became throughout the community and how he threw hissy fits. She realized that enough was enough and she needed to grow accustomed to this new place by herself, just like the narrator did in the poem. This is because she knew that her dad was just going insane and he wanted too much power. She now felt bad for her mom and what he had done to her, and wanted to side with her mom to get out of the community that they were in because they had enough of it. Another thing that happened in the Congo while she was there was something absurd and scarring to say the least. Her sister had started to hunt with the men for meat and Rachel saw what they did when they killed the poor animals lives. Rachel was so startled and appalled that she had to become a vegetarian for a short time while they were there. The Federal Aviation Administration was first named the Federal Aviation Agency . The Federal Aviation Agency was established when the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 was created. With the creation of the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 it then gave more responsibilities to the FAA. These responsibilities included complete control of oversight and regulation for safety within the aviation industry. And the FAA was also responsible for military and civilian aircrafts within American airspace. This was a great idea because it s better to have one agency overseeing both entities to ensure accuracy and safety. Since there is one agency responsible for oversight this will lead to faster problem solving because this agency has the final say and it does not have to rely or get a confirmation from another agency about a particular issue relating to American airspace. The Assyrian empire was located in what is today known as Northern Iraq. Assyrians were recognized as fearsome and ruthless conquerors of the ancient near east. This relief sculpture features a winged male figure pollinating a sacred tree and it would have decorated the walls of Ashurnasirpal II s Northwest Palace at Calakh. Assyrian kings often commissioned relief sculptures and paintings for their palace walls to show off their power to anyone that may enter the palace. This work would have originally been painted but the paint has faded over time and the original color has been lost, so this work can only be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would have been on the walls of Ashurnasirpal II s palace so it would have been seen by both Assyrians or any opponents that may try to invade. The size of the work helps to enforce this idea of power as well, this is a human sized work, the viewer is forced to confront the figure kind of face to face; especially if they were interacting with it in its original context on the walls. Something that shows up in Assyrian art is the idea of showing the strength of Assyrian warriors by also showing the strength of their opponents. This can be seen in another relief sculpture from the Northwest Palace Assyrian archers pursuing enemies, where the enemies are depicted as almost giants yet they are seen fleeing across the Euphrates river from the Assyrian archers (Kleiner, Gardner s Art through the Ages: The Western Perspective, p. 47). So it would make sense that sense that an Assyrian king would have such confidence that this piece could be the same size as the viewer and yet still leave an imposing ... • 32. My Life In College Life is a winding road that goes through mountains and over water, but also through mud, ice, and snow. What I mean by that is that life is something very short, filled with beautiful moments as well as dark and disturbing ones (well, if we are being technical, life is the longest thing any of us will experience). One moment that nobody can seem to decide which category it belongs in, is college. College for some people can be this once in a lifetime experience that creates friendship, memories, and everlasting knowledge. While for others it is absolute misery and stress. Regardless of all of that, college is an incredibly tough decision that comes down to intelligence, money, and future careers. All of which are choices of which many people fear to make in life. Bowling Green and Findlay University both seem to be very sound and reasonable choices; however, Bowling Green looks to be the better choice due to costs and their business programs. As for Bowling Green, which is my first choice, was actually the second college I had visited. It had a massive campus, well, at least compared to what I expected. It had hundreds of dorms and plenty of faculty to go around for the students. Needless to say that during that first visit, I was blown away and beyond impressed with everything I saw. So after looking more into it, there are definitely a lot of different reasons that I was even more inclined to go there. The first thing I looked at was the tuition, which was a surprising ... • 33. Social Responsibility In Greek Theatre Throughout the different eras of theatre, the Greek, Roman, Medieval, Commedia, and Shakespearean performers all contributed to the culture of the societies of they were in. However, the level of social responsibility that was prevalent in these eras was dependent on whether or not government promoted theatre as a means of enlightening the general public. As a result, the manner in which theatre was presented contributed to the evolution of the particular society either positively or negatively. During the era of Greek theatre, which lasted from 550 B.C. to 220 B.C., government, art, education, science, and medicine were all viewed as equally important. Akropolis, which was the center of government and thought, espoused the ideals of empowerment and making one s self and society better. Plays that were performed made people ask questions in order to push society forward, and the government created theatre in this era so that it can be critiqued. The Festival of Dionysus, which was a weeks long festival, featured various artists from different fields showcasing their talents, including theatre performances that ran all day. At the same time, love making and drinking was encouraged (Dionysus is the god of wine and fertility) as a means of opening up one s state of mind. At the performances of these plays, actors wore masks, which indicated the type of character they were, and the masks had attachments so that people could hear what they were saying, but there was also a ... • 34. Bilingualism Is A For A Regular Way Between Researchers... To begin with, bilingualism is a term which is not used in a regular way between researchers and theoreticians. For example Macnamara (1967; cited in Cummins and Swain, 1986:07) defines bilinguals as those have at least one of the skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) even to a lower degree in their second language. At the other end of the scale Oestreicher (1974; cited in Cummins and Swain, 1986:07) defines bilinguals as those who show complete mastery of two different languages without interference . According to Bloomfield (1933; cited in Romaine, 1989:10) bilingualism is a native like control of two languages , it is the ability to speak two languages perfectly. Furthermore, bilingualism was analyzed into four levels in another paper: individual, family, societal, and school levels (McCarty, 2010). At the educational level, McCarty (2012) defines bilingual education as bilingualism at the school level. It is not a matter of speaking two languages at home, which is bilingualism at the family level. Bilingual education is teaching in two languages in a school, more than one language as the medium of instruction, that is to say the use of another language for students to learn regular school subjects. Additionally, Appel and Muysken (1987:60) define bilingual education as the opportunity to be educated in two languages: the language of the home and the language of other groups in the community. However, for them these two languages do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Arc Of Justice Analysis Arc of Justice is a story of the hardships of segregation fueled by ignorance in the 1920 s. The beginning introduces the reader into the setting of Detroit reaching its industrial peak. It then chronicles Ossian Sweet, an African American physician. Him and his wife, Gladys, purchased a house in a white neighborhood in hopes of a better future and a successful family. Instead, they quickly received many threats and felt unsteady, the neighbors rejected all African American s in their society. Raised in the South, Ossian Sweet had seen what prejudice can do to a society. Although he attempted to escape from it, he finds himself staring racism right in the face. For a book published 80 years after the fact, Kevin Boyle does a very impressive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During that time Johnson was the general secretary of the NAACP, and knew what impact the case would have on civil rights. Given this the NAACP aided those accused of the murder of Breiner, and a first rate defense team was in the making. Assistant secretary Walter White was the main assistant of NAACP to find the best attorneys (who were not prejudiced, of course). He later meets Arthur Garfield Hays and Clarence Darrow and urges them to take the case. After agreeing they meet their clients about a month after the accident. Boyle shows how both James Weldon Johnson and Clarence Darrow had interior motives for defending the Sweets. Both men had a love for the spotlight, when speaking about Darrow, Boyle writes in the glare of a high profile case he found the perfect opportunity to attack the status quo and proclaim the modernist creed. The trial itself felt more of a civil rights case than a criminal case. The most impressive thing in regards to the actual trial was the performance done by Darrow. One could draw many similarities between him and To Kill A Mockingbird s Atticus Finch. A common misconception of the courtroom is that the jury goes strictly off of evidence when deliberating. This book clears up that false belief with the attorneys playing off of emotion and targeting pathos. A strong argument presented by Darrow can be summarized by a few statements he made in that courtroom. You are facing a problem of two races, a problem that will take centuries to solve. If I felt none of you were prejudiced, I d have no fear. I want you to be as unprejudiced as you can be. • 38. Lower Teacher Expectations And Stereotypes Lower teacher expectations and stereotypes Lower teacher expectations have been recognised to limit pupil s progress in education. Teachers are not pushing ethnic minority pupil to achieve their potential. Ethnic minority groups are mostly entered for foundation tier GCSE examinations which then restricts the grade that can be achieved (REMI). This is through lower teacher expectations. Lower teacher expectations lead to pupils performing less than their capabilities. Wright (1992 p. 27 cited in Foster, Gomm and Hammersley, 1996) provides a clear example of teachers not pushing pupil to achieve well due to the child s ethnic background. They [White teachers] have got this way of talking to them [Asian pupil] in a really simple way... cutting half the sentences Me no do that sort of thing... and that is not standard English.
