2. Christmas Carol Analysis
Cesar Granda
E.G 121
When reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens you realize that Scrooge s childhood has a huge
impact on his adult life, his adult self is a mirror image of his child self, both in his emotions and
relationships. This becomes apparent when the ghost of Christmas past appears and takes Scrooge on
a journey back into his childhood days. His childhood really molds Scrooge into the person he
becomes later in life. Scrooge was a lonely and withdrawn child because he lost connection with the
only parent he had left after the death of his mother at childbirth. His father sends him away to
boarding school and refuses to allow the young Scrooge to return home. This disconnection from the
only parent he has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

irreparable given the childhood he had, it still was not impossible for Scrooge to change. Dickens uses

3. Benefits Of A Proactive Strategic Procurement Operation
INTRODUCTION
Every organisation requires goods and services from external suppliers or providers as no company is
an Island. These goods are to be acquired at the right time, right source, right quality of materials,
right quantity and also these goods are to be of the right price in order to give the organisation an
advantage over its competitors( competitive advantage) allowing it to generate greater sales and retain
more customers than its competition. We will be looking at HEWLETT PACKARD. Hewlett Packard
emphasis has gone beyond just reacting to the needs of users as and when they arise, to a forward
looking proactive approach. This reflects the contribution that the management makes.

Going to low cost countries to source has plenty of advantages, but it has to be done right. ( The
Boston consulting Group 2008)
Hewlett Packard is the case study of this work, procurement being a broad topic, we will concentrate
on three main areas for the purpose of these work. Brief understanding of them;
GLOBAL SOURCING:
Global sourcing can be simply defined as coordinating and integrating of procurement requirement
across worldwide business units. Mostly practised by large organisations because they are the ones
that have the need, leverages and facilities around the globe to enable them apply the process to gain
competitiveness from global sourcing. They are usually in a contract with other large corporations
who have the ability to supply the products to their sites located globally. Many organisations are
meeting the need for lower cost by moving to foreign countries where there are less regulations that
interferes with the manufacturing process, where they can find cheaper labour and thereby lower the
cost of basic plant, personnel cost and also operational cost. Sourcing and outsourcing which have
developed over time are the two basic methods of foreign manufacturing and it helps in making the
best choice for global supply chains. Some basic things need to be considered before outsourcing,
sometimes companies outsource when it does not make any sense. Eg if a

4. The Between The Scottish And Chinese Products
In January of 2010, Mr. Li Kequiang who was vice premier of the state council of China contacted
Pelamis Wave Power Corporation in Scotland for a visit. The purpose of this visit was to view a
project that converted the kinetic wave energy of the ocean into electrical energy. Li was accompanied
by many senior Chinese officials during this visit, which totaled about sixty people. Two months later
there was a break in of the building Pelamis occupied, and five laptops containing design information
were stolen. The interesting thing in this case was that the burglars skipped the first floor occupants,
who were the Siemens Corporation, and went straight to Pelamis. A few years later the Chinese
produced a similar project called the Hailong 1. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Note that the terms of corporate and industrial espionage are used interchangeably in my research.
One may wonder what the roots of competitive intelligence, intellectual espionage, and reverse
engineering are. On the surface, it may seem clear that there is a distinction between competitive
intelligence and corporate espionage. One is gained legally, as a means of retaining corporate
relevance, while the other is gained illegally and at in some cases in an indignant fashion [4].
According to David Blenkhorn, a professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, this topic is not
appropriately discussed in universities today. It is not clear or obvious how one should treat corporate
intelligence ethically, as cultural viewpoints skew the morality of the situation. It certainly could be
argued that this information gathering is a necessary and sufficient means to an end. Dr. Blenkhorn
notes that there is a generally accepted ethical view with respect to information gathering in Europe
and North America, but in other countries, this perspective is quite different. To some degree this may
be a normalization of deviance, where over time, such actions are simply accepted as a means of
holding a business or national security edge, and thus over time becomes ingrained into the culture.
Interestingly, according to Professor Blenkhorn, one of his students from Russia was taught how to

The pizza ovens and fryers make it extremely hot at Sam s Pizza. All three pizza ovens are set to 550
degrees and, and all three fryers are set to 400 degrees. In the summer the temperature can reach over
100 degrees in the pizza shop. Working an 8 hour shift in these temperatures can be a grueling
experience. The heat in the shop matched with the buffet and non stop pizza order phone calls make it
even worse. I remember the first time working a long shift when I started working at Sam s. It was
harder than I would have ever imagined. The heat really affected my ability to work efficiently. After a
few hours I could tell I wasn t working as hard as I was at the beginning of my shift. Working tired
and hungry in that heat really drained a lot of my energy. It made it hard to communicate effectively
and be nice while talking to costumers.
I m not the only one who has had bad long shift experiences. A new 16 year old employee who started
working at Sam s pizza in August didn t have the best experience on his first day at the job. The
employee worked a six hour shift and about five hours in he passed out while he was rolling pizza
dough. He was completely fine after about five minutes. We gave him water, and he was back to work
right away. He told us the reason he passed out was because he had an anxiety attack. It was extremely
hot that day, and I think the heat played a big role in making him pass out.

Over time the policing community has faced many different changes to be able to keep up with the
new times. The system has adapted many new techniques and a different approach to how they solve
problems. Community policing has taken on a number of definition, but put simply it is a working
partnership with a community that helps make the area a better environment to subside in. The main
goals of community policing is to reduce neighborhood crime, help reduce fear of crime and enhance
the quality of life in the community. The United States Department of Justice has defined community
policing as a philosophy that focuses on crime and social disorder through the delivery of police
services that includes aspects of traditional law enforcement, as well as prevention, problem solving,
community engagement, and partnerships. However, community policing can be looked at as not so
much a strategy, but a philosophy about how things should be done. According to The Unites States
Department of Justice At its core, community oriented policing is based on law enforcement and the
community joining together to identify and address issues of crime and social disorder. With new
advances and community oriented policing, law enforcement is taking steps in the right direction.
Over the course of the semester there have been many instances in which shows that new technology
advances have proven to be nothing but beneficial for law enforcement. In an article written by Ron

only the lucky few people were able to find jobs depending on their trade and if they were hiring for

taxes to help rebuild the country after it. Living in old destroyed buildings that were dirty and about to

In Bicycle thieves people were resorting to stealing and robbing, criminal activities just to get by in

9. Causes And Effects Of The Missouri Compromise
Effects of Missouri Compromise The Missouri Compromise was a temporary solution to the issue of
slavery and territorial rights such as the movement West. Two areas of land wanted to become states in
1820, known as Maine and Missouri. Maine wanted to enter as a free state with no slavery as
everyone in that area was against it and wanted it abolished. Missouri wanted to enter as a slave state
and was all for slavery and wanted it to be spread all throughout the country. The compromise
everyone came into conclusion with, was that there would be no slavery allowed north of 36° 30
latitude. This angered the Southerners because their intention was to promote slavery not have it
abolished. They realized that this compromise threatened the balance between free and slave states;
Maine and Missouri. In order to expand slavery, the South felt that the United States would need
territory from Mexico. The only area of land left was in Arkansas and that line became known as the
Missouri Compromise line. The impact that the Missouri Compromise had on the United States was
tremendous and had many effects on issues such as national politics, the institution of slavery, and the
overall togetherness of the nation as a whole. America s states were being shattered in the fact that the
states were turning against one another and fighting for what each geographical state believed in. The
Northern more states wanted slavery to be abolished and to treat them like humans, however the South

Ben could see the fear in her eyes, even through the welling tears, and wished he had a moment to

Nothing would ever be the same for Schuyler Lassiter again. His seeming lack of compassion was
deliberate, as their first priority was to get away from these men alive, and the best way to keep
someone from going into shock was to not give them time to allow the adrenaline to cease flowing. If

What really happened in Roswell?
For more than 60 years, the debate between reality and conspiracy has raged on with the concept of
aliens in the center(History.com Staff). In Roswell, New Mexico in 1947 what is believed by
conspiracy theorists to be a flying saucer was found in a rancher s sheep pasture. The idea that
exterrestrial life could possibly exist may seem out of this world to some. But, to an entire town of
people, the idea is not as far fetched.
So, what are aliens? Aliens are exterrestrial beings that allegedly live in outer space and did not
originate from Earth. Outer space is incomprehensibly massive. The galaxy in which human beings
live is referred to as the Milky Way, and there are an estimated 100 billion planets in that one galaxy
alone(SPACE.com Staff). Seth Shostak, an American astronomer and a Senior Astronomer for the

Abstract
In recent years educational institutions have been targeted by active shooters. The threat of an
assailant entering an academic environment has compelled law enforcement agencies and educational
institutions to revise their tactical responses. The first paragraph consists of the Columbine school
shooting. The second paragraph will cover the safety programs schools have implemented to
safeguard their students and staff. The third paragraph will cover the tactics and fundamentals officers
have received to limit the amount of casualties.

The assailant s intention is to assault as many individuals as possible with no hope of surviving.
According to the New York City Police Department report on active shooters, 46% of active shooters
are stopped by law enforcement officials, or other bystanders, and 40% of the active shooters either
commit suicide or attempt suicide. (NYPD, 2011) Police departments nationwide are training their
officers to confront the active shooters quickly and as aggressively as possible. (Cain, 2010) Police
departments have begun introducing various tactics in concealment, entering doorways, and working
in small groups to have a tactical advantage in eliminating the assailant. Police agencies have been
working closely with their local schools to avoid future massacres. Many police agencies have
implemented various approaches to ensure their response times are sharp. Daviess County, Kentucky
Sherriff s office began offering a 2 day training program that demonstrates various entry and
movement techniques when confronting an active shooter (Cain, 2010) Many other agencies have
introduced live fire scenarios using artificial projectiles, and the use of ballistic shields. (Law Staff,
2008) As school shootings can never be predicted it is imperative that the education institutions and
law enforcement agencies are ready and vigilant at all times to avoid other nationwide massacres.

15. Summary OfDear Matafele Peinam Poem
The poem Dear Matafele Peinam by Kathy Jetñil Kijiner is a tremendously moving poem about
climate change. To begin, two of the main symbols of this poem are the lagoon and hands. Firstly, the
lagoon symbolizes what the world could look like if people do not change. It shows the negative
aspects of the world, and it also highlights the direction Earth is going. This symbol can be interpreted
from the quote men say that one day / that lagoon will devour you (10 11). This implies that scientists
are claiming that the Earth is headed in the wrong direction, and change is necessary before Earth
devours its residents. Next, hands symbolize collaboration and change. Whenever hands were
mentioned, it was always associated with change. A few examples are hands reaching out / fists
raising up (62 63) and marching with signs / hand in hand / chanting for change NOW (80 82). These
are powerful statements about rallies and statements about change. The hands are symbols of how the
only way to save the planet for the future generations is to collaborate and work together to achieve a
common goal.
Furthermore, this poem heavily uses a mixture of literal and figurative imagery. One of my favourite
examples of imagery in this poem was hands reaching out / fists raising up / banners unfurling /
megaphones booming (Jetñil Kijiner 62 65). This quote allows the reader to imagine the protests and
the movements that people are trying to do in order to save the planet. That was a case of extremely
powerful and inspiring literal imagery as it shows people s fight for change. This is an example of
people who are fighting to save the planet for not only the current generation but for future
generations as well. There are also several examples of figurative imagery, the most prominent is
personification. An example of personification is they say [the lagoon] will gnaw at the shoreline /
chew at the roots of your breadfruit trees / gulp down rows of your seawalls / and crunch your island s
shattered bones (12 15). In this example, it is talking about the repercussions of climate change and
what the future will look like if people do not change. The use of personification helps the reader
understand the awful things that can

16. Compare And Contrast Traditional Teaching Styles
No teachers are similar as well as no students learn in the same way. Every teacher has their own
unique teaching style which is based on their educational philosophy, their classroom s demographic,
what subject area they teach, and the school s mission statement. Up until now, teachers are looking
for a system that will engage students in the educational process and will develop the students critical
thinking skills. Moreover, teachers want the classroom to be in order and in control, but they also want
their students to appreciate the learning procedure. These teaching styles can be divided into two
approaches the teacher centered and learner centered.
Traditional teaching styles use teacher centered approach. It includes a teacher that stands at the front
and tells students step by step instructions. The teacher decides what is learned, when it is learned,
how it is learned, and how learning is evaluated. In a nutshell, the teacher is an information giver and
evaluator. The students are just there to learn through lessons and direct instructions. Their attention is
mainly focused on passing tests, assessments, and evaluations.
Through the years, many successful people have came from the traditional setting. The earliest

Expressionism is not an art that is based on reality of something but more on the emotion of the thing.
E.g. there is a painting of a man sitting on a chair. But in Expressionist painting the colours, emotion
and shapes would show the mans emotions to show a completely different picture and story. This is
why Expressionist art is so unique and distinctive as it can tell a whole different story, and show so
may different deep emotions and feelings in one painting. Expressionism is one of the most popular
types of art in the later 19th and the 20th centuries. It shows an individual, impulsive, self
expressionate piece of art.
Edvard Munch used a range of expressive colours like Reds, dark blues, and oranges. The sky is filled
with fiery reds and oranges. This could represent the anger, frustration in the artist life. The ocean is
filled with cold blues and greens. This could symbolise depression despair and misery in Edvard
Munch s life. There is also a whirlpool in the middle of the ocean. Where there looks like there are a
few boats are getting pulled in. I think this represents that Edvard Munch is stuck in the middle of
emotions, fury and anger or depression and misery of the loss of his family. They are both trying to

23. The Individualization Of Civility And Civilization
Although religions originated for a common goal, each civilization has developed its own unique
interpretation of religion, which impacts how each civilization fosters hospitality or hostility.
Religions establish morals, such as collectivism, that is used to unite and maintain civilization.
Civilizations develop unique interpretations of religion to organize unification based on a shared
purpose, having concern for community. This diversity allows people to distinguish the relationship
between religion and civilization of unification and structure based on beliefs. The relationship not
only within, but also between civilizations are visible through religions influence on hospitality and
hostility. Throughout history, religions have played a significant role in both the formation and
cooperation of civilizations in various ways including, civilizations forming based on common
principles, the unique perception of religion in various civilizations, and the fostering of hospitality
and hostility through religion in civilizations.
To begin, although religions are uniquely individualistic, they are founded on a common goal, the
establishment of morals within civilizations as well as globally. It is understood that people are

24. A Designer Who Has Made A Living Developing And Designing...
A designer who has made a living developing and designing visual communication is feeling that he
needs new inspiration to fuel his passion of changing the world for the better. His name is Neville
Brody, he is experiencing tremendous difficulty developing new ideas but is acutely aware that he has
the skills and creativity that can make a difference.
Pounding, deafening and never ending. Three words that accurately describe the frustration that
Neville had been forced to endure for the past two and a half hours. He has been waiting at the airport
for his flight to California which has been delayed twice. As the founder and designer of his own
design firm, he feels that it is extremely important to get there quickly in order to attend an important
conference involving his shareholders. Finally after another thirty minutes of waiting, passengers get
the all clear to board the plane.
The bawling ricocheted off the plane s curved bulkheads, underscored by a piercing shriek. Neville
winced and plodded along, hoping with each row the wailing and sobs might subside or he might
bypass their source altogether. Seat numbers increased along with the decibels until the plastic
windows seemed about to shatter. Reaching seat number 43, Neville could tell that he was in for a
very uncomfortable flight. As he approached the seat, he was greeted by a round face as red as a stop
sign. The piercing scream bellowed into the aisle from the kid s mouth the tone warbling in time with

the frame of the photograph to hope to capture that I m the center of attention and that all focus is put
on me, much like teen flicks do with these characters. The tomboy, is another popular character in the
teen flicks. Movies with these characters are usually raised by their fathers and get along with these

grew up playing baseball, he best friends with a guy, wears only casual clothing, and ends up the star

The possibility of her losing this quality is often a plot driver. She is usually smart, pretty, and nice.
Characters such as Cady from Mean Girls and Marienne from Easy A. Before their corruption in these
movies, these girls are modest, the top of the class, and popular because of their position on student
government. For this character I plan to put myself in modest clothing such as a sweater and an oxford
shirt. I will have put together hair and natural makeup. I will put her in a classroom setting attentive in
class at a desk. The air head, is popular character in teen movies. She is usually there for a comedic
aspect. In some instances she is just blonde, or a from being a stoner. Michelle from Dazed and
Confused is an example. This character is usually found coming up with ridiculous ideas or spitting
out words of random wisdom. For this photograph I plan to have a full frame shot of my head. My
hair will be laidback and i ll place an incense stick behind my ear and flowers in the other. I will have

28. Compare And Contrast Marie And Carrie Curie
Radiation is energy that comes from a source and travels through some material or through space.
Pierre and Marie Curie were partners that had both become interested in the discovery Henri
Becquerel made which was the discovery of radioactivity. Marie and Pierre Curie came up with the
term radioactivity to describe Becquerel s discovery. Marie and Pierre extracted uranium from ore and
compared the pure uranium to the extracted uranium ore samples. They found that the uranium ore
samples contained more radioactivity. Marie s research concluded that the two uranium ore samples,
pitchblende and chalcocite, were more radioactive than the pure uranium and so because of the high
radioactivity of both of the samples there had to be additional radioactive

29. Definition Essay
Definition Essay The Evolved Definition of Community The definition provided in The American
College Dictionary from 1964 says a group of men or women leading a common life according to a
rule. I never really viewed community in this manner. Many of us think of the word community as a
group of people who live near each other. We forget that a community is actually just a group of
people with common interests or characteristics who often happen to live near each other.
Communities can be bound by race, religion, economic standings, political standings, and most
commonly, location. Frequently, communities fall into more than one of these categories. The
definition of community has obviously changed over the years. If we look at ... Show more content on

In Charles Derber s The Good Man Fills His Own Stomach, Derber refers to two very different
communities. One is the Ik who lived in Uganda and were described as unfortunate people expelled by
an uncaring government. The other, was an imaginary community from the Woody Allen movie
Crimes and Misdemeanors. This community seemed to resemble a community from our present day
upper class with only the best hotels, restaurants, and symphonic recordings. Although these two
groups are very different, they each still follow the criterion of a community. Each are groups of
people who have formed a sort of bond with each other because of a certain lifestyle, interests, or
beliefs. When people use this word in present everyday conversation, their application of the
definition is usually compatible with the first and third definitions of The American College
Dictionary. The second definition, the public, is too general. A community is not only a public, but a
public with a common interest. In my area, when the word community is used, the person is usually
referring to the West Bloomfield community. Talking about symbols and signified, the West
Bloomfield community originally started out as just the group of people who lived in the town of West
Bloomfield. Now the people of the area have come to make The West Bloomfield Community, signify
something entirely different. It currently means any group of people who are wealthy and Jewish no
matter their locality.

30. Jim Carrey Analysis
The purpose of art is to bring people into presence Jim Carrey .The particular artist that I chose is an
artist in many different realms though he is an accomplished actor he also is a painter and has painted
for most of his life it was not until recently that his art work has been showcased. That artist that I am
talking about is Jim Carrey. I feel that his artwork shows emotional depth has an interesting color
schemes and really lets us go into his mind through the use of his art.
The artwork that I have seen of Carrey s is emotional I understand that art is all about how one
perceives their art and it can mean many things to many different people. For instance, when I look at
his work I can see the emotion that he was trying to convey in the type of brush work that his painting
has. I also understand that I could have chosen another artist that is more skillful or has been in the art
world longer but with that being said that is why art is amazing it does not judge. Art has its own
universal language. When I look at his paintings I can see and almost feel the work and feeling that
goes into his work. When I look at it I feel the emotional depth. For example, he has this painting of
Jesus Christ and it makes you wonder about everything our whole existence is based off of but like I
said that is just my viewpoint.
Another thing I have noticed about his artwork is that he uses a lot of interesting colors that pop out at
you that demand attention. In a lot of his paintings

31. Reflective Paper On Moral Responsibility
Reflective Paper Regarding Moral Responsibility of Rehabilitating Criminals
Dalia M Al Rubaye
Parkdale High School
Abstract
This paper is generally about the correlation between moral responsibility and rehabilitation. Moral
responsibility was examined in the context of criminals and ordinary people. What brings about a
crime, and what impels an individuals to commit an action that he realizes is wrong. Also, the concept
of rehabilitation and the way in which it is applied were examined to deliver a better understanding of
issues regarding criminals. Examining these concepts was the key used to depict the moral
responsibility, that s innate in people, and how it should be considered in rehabilitating criminals.
Key words: Morality, self respect, conscience, rehabilitation
Moral Responsibility of Rehabilitating Criminals I am a person with very little knowledge regarding
criminology. Luckily, I ve acquired some knowledge from being a girl who loves to read about
philosophy. Linking between the morals I ve learned as a religious person and the theories about the
innate format of a human being presented by philosophers, I was able to initiate my thinking process
and organize my ideas. My ultimate goal was to get to the point where I m able to decide whether the
society and I are morally responsible of rehabilitating criminals or not. Based on my trivial
knowledge, I think that we, as individuals habitating the same community, are morally responsible

33. Biochemical Causes Of Depression Research Paper
There is no single cause for depression. Depression can be caused by one or more factors. Some
people are more likely to have depression than others. There are different reasons that attempt to
explain this predisposition: Inheritance: There is an increased risk of clinical depression when there is
a family history of the disease, indicating they may have inherited a biological predisposition. This
risk is somewhat higher for people with bipolar disorder. However, not all people who have a family
history will have the disease. In addition, severe depression can also occur in people who have no
family history of the disease. This suggests that there are additional factors that can cause depression,
whether biochemical or environmental stressors, and other psychosocial factors. ... Show more content

chemicals in the brain, known as neurotransmitters. In addition, sleep patterns, which are affected by

can be induced or alleviated with certain medications, and some hormones can alter moods. What is
not yet known is whether the biochemical imbalance of depression are genetic or is caused by stress,
