`` The Scarlett Letter `` By Roger Chillingworth
Because of the irrational and nonsensical actions of virtually every character in The Scarlett
Letter, I find it extremely difficult to substantiate a claim that I empathize with any of them on
any genuine level. However, for the sake of completing this summer s reading assignment, I will
resort to writing about the only person who displays typical human behavior in a way to which I
can somewhat relate Roger Chillingworth. Though cynical, egocentric, and (dare I say) satanic,
Roger Chillingworth goes about his business in such a realistic way (as compared to the rest of
the fictional characters) that he instills in the reader a sense of understanding of his motives.
Unlike the other characters, I am fully able to empathize with the frustration and distressful
emotions that overcame Chillingworth. It is logical to assume that hatred and vengefulness would
blossom in a man if, upon arrival to a new world, he learned that his wife was in the midst of an
affair. In Chillingworth, we see one of Nathaniel Hawthorne s characters react for the first time, and
perhaps the only time, in an authentic fashion. At first, Chillingworth attempts to distance himself
from the idea of revenge when he claims that he shall [not] interfere with Heaven s own method of
retribution (69). This claim, however, does not last long, and soon he succumbs to his sinful desire
to burrow into the clergyman s intimacy, and plot against his soul (112). The pain of sitting

Nuclear Power And Clean Energy Development
Moreover, The Twelfth Five year Plan emphasized the necessity of developing nuclear energy in the
premise of ensuring the safety according to the new situation. At the Third Nuclear Security
Summit held in Hague, Netherlands, in 2014, the national president Xi Jinping pointed out that
when it came to develop nuclear energy, development and security were the priorities. At the two
session of the twelve National People s Congress, Prime Minister Li Keqiang said that China should
enhance energy conservation and emission reduction, improve the proportion of non fossil energy

To achieve this goal, China should complete the construction of 5 or 6 large unclear turbine
generators each year from 2011 to 2020. Since then Chinese nuclear power construction would enter
a stable, safe and efficient development period.
4.2.2Opportunities presented by technology, experience, management, etc.
It has taken more than 30 years for China to establish a complete nuclear industrial system and
accumulate a wealth of experience in the construction and operation of nuclear power. In terms of
developing and designing, China has fully equipped with capabilities and conditions of independent
designing, constructing, and operating the second generation of the improved nuclear power plant.
Moreover, China has completed the independent research and development of the third generation,
as well as the re innovation.
In terms of nuclear power construction, China has established a digitalized, specialized and
standardized project management system and achieved good results. Specifically, the capacity of
automatic project management and lump contracting has been strengthened. The construction and
management of China Nuclear Engineering have reached the advanced world levels in quality and
performance, laying a good foundation for mass customization and scale of production. When it

The Phantom of the Opera Essay
The Phantom of the Opera is a novel written by Gaston Leroux. The novel takes place in Paris.
The exact time is unknown but would be around 1910. The reviews from the critics are very
different. Although Gaston Leroux s The Phantom of the Opera has not generally been highly
commended by critics, many would agree that there are several elements that prove Leroux to be
a talented writer. One of the strongest elements in the novel is the narrator s voice. The narrator is
on a quest, starting out with the question of whether the opera ghost was real and is trying to find
evidence in order to reach a conclusion. He takes the reader behind the scenes of the opera. He
does this with the themes of appearance and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Horror is another important theme. The most distinct horror device is Erik s face. Though he is
described as having a disease, its manifestation gives him the exact semblance of a skull, so that
even as a young man he was able to travel to county fairs and bill himself as the living dead man
(Newark). The last theme is innocence. The phantom s anger with the society that has rejected
him is balanced in this novel with the simple innocence of the love between Christine Daae and
Raoul de Chagny (Newark). The narration of a novel is also any important part of a novel. The
narrator is never known but it can be assumed that what he describes is accurate from the story he
is telling, even though he was never there when the events occurred. Leroux is pretending that the
story is being reconstructed from a variety of sources newspaper articles, memoirs, interviews with
witnesses and archives. The narrator tells how he researched the legend of the phantom for many
years. The narration is roughly thirty years after the events conveyed in the novel. At the
beginning, the narrator insists, The Opera ghost really existed. He was not, as was long believed, a
creature of the imagination of the artist, the superstition of the managers, or a product of the absurd

Social Conflict Theory
SOCIAL CONFLICT THEORY Introduction Social conflict theory is a Marxist based social
theory which argues that individuals and groups (social classes) within society have differing
amounts of material and non material resources (the wealthy vs. the poor) and that the more
powerful groups use their power in order to exploit groups with less power. The two methods by
which this exploitation is done are through brute force usually done by police and the army and
economics. Earlier social conflict theorists argue that money is the mechanism which creates social
disorder. The theory further states that society is created from ongoing social conflict between
various groups. There are other theories of deviance, the functionalist theory, the... Show more

He hears that the instruments of production are to be exploited in common, and, naturally, can
come to no other conclusion that the lot of being common to all will likewise fall to the women. He
has not even a suspicious that the real point aimed at is to do away with the status of women as
mere instruments of production. For the rest, nothing is more ridiculous than the virtuous
indignation of our bourgeois at the community of women which, they pretend, is to be openly and
officially established by the Communists. The Communists have no need to introduce community
of women; it has existed almost from time immemorial. Our bourgeois, not content with having
wives and daughters of their proletarians at their disposal, not to speak of common prostitutes, take
the greatest pleasure in seducing each other s wives. Bourgeois marriage is, in reality, a system of
wives in common and thus, at the most, what the Communists might possibly be reproached with is
that they desire to introduce, in substitution for a hypocritically concealed, an openly legalised
community of women. For the rest, it is self evident that the abolition of the present system of
production must bring with it the abolition of the community of women springing from that
system, i.e., of prostitution both public and private. Communist Manifesto, Chapter 2. Even though
Marx may have been against marriage politically, he was a man of his time. Marriage

Assess the View That Social Class Differences in...
Assess the view that social class differences in educational achievement are the result of school
processes such as labeling. (20 marks) Labelling refers to meanings or definitions we attach to
someone or something to make sense of them and these could be negative or positive labels. For
example, in schools teachers are likely to label middle class pupils as bright and more able to
achieve in education whereas, they would see working class pupils as less able. Teacher labels can
affect a pupil s educational achievement as it will influence how they perform educationally.
However, there are other school factors which cause underachievement and these are, the self
fulfilling prophecy, streaming and pupil subculture. There have been a... Show more content on

For example, teachers may give a negative label to a working class pupil and see them as badly
behaved as a result, the pupil would accept that label and live up to it. Therefore, pupils given
negative labels may see themselves as failures and give up trying consequently, fulfilling the
original prophecy. Some sociologists would argue that streaming can affect a pupil s
educational achievement. Streaming refers to separating children into different ability groups
or classes called streams . Each group is then taught separately, according to their ability for all
subjects. In Becker s study, teachers did not see working class children as ideal pupils and were
seen as lacking ability therefore, they were placed in a lower stream. This leads to self fulfilling
prophecy as pupils except their teachers low expectations by under achieving. For example,
Douglas found that children placed in a lower stream at the age of 8 suffered a decline in their IQ
score by the age of 11. In addition, sociologists would argue that pupil subcultures affect the pupils
educational achievement. For example, the pro school subculture contains pupils who have been
placed in higher streams and are committed to school values. Theses pupils are more likely to be
middle class therefore they tend to achieve in education. However, the anti school subculture

Preventing Obesity among School Children through Healthier...
Preventing Obesity Among School Children through Healthier School Meals
Obesity and overweight are among the pressing health problems among children and adolescents in
the developed world.
Obesity refers to an excess amount of body fat whereas overweight can be measured by the BMI
index or height weight ratio.
According to the WHO (2012), obesity and overweight are the fifth largest risk for global deaths.
Introduction
Obesity and overweight among children and adolescents has increased to more than a third of
children and adolescents (CDC, 2012).
Children and adolescents consume 700 to 1000 more calories per day than required (NCCOR,
2012).
School lunches mostly consist of fried and salty foods, which has prompted ex military officers to
call for legislation on healthy school lunches (Spillius, 2010).
Problem Identification
Such children are likely to have higher risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in later years
(CDC, 2012).
Obesity in children and adolescents can lead to greater susceptibility to the following in later years:
Asthma
High blood pressure
Bone and joint problems
Sleep apnea
Low self esteem
Problem Identification
Children and adolescents often resort to unhealthy ways of controlling weight including: Crash
diets Binge eating, leading to bulimia nervosa Starvation Drugs, e.g. cocaine Laxatives
Hence, there is a need to develop healthy ways of controlling obesity in children.

Bilbo s Archetypes In The Hobbit
One little hobbit s life shall change forever with adventure lurking by for tea. Bilbo displays three
archetypes throughout his adventure. One of them is the call to adventure , where s the Tookish
side of him awakens, and Gandalf presents Bilbo with an adventure, though without giving him an
alternative. A second one is the magic item , for instance the magic ring. And ultimately, the
supernatural aid , patently Gandalf for he is a wizard. Bilbo Bagginsof Bag End, Under Hill has
invariably led a quiet and boring life. Well, at least he did until thirteen dwarves came rapping at
his door. Bilbo displays the archetype the magic item when he finds the magic ring in the goblin
tunnels. Then off he went from door to door, until his following had grown to twelve none of them
any to nimble, what with the dark, and what with their long imprisonment { Tolkien, The Hobbit
174}. This displays Bilbo rescuing his comrades from the Elvenking s oubliettes with the
backing of the ring. Dazzlingly marvelous! Perfect! Flawless! Staggering! exclaimed Bilbo
aloud, but what he thought inside was: Old fool! Why there is a large patch in the hollow of his
left breast as bare as a snail out of its shell! {... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains,
and hear the pine trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a
walking stick {Tolkien, The Hobbit 28}. This gives an exemplar of the Tookish side calling
Bilbo to adventure. Yes, you have! Twice now. My pardon. I give it you. In fact I will go so far as
to send you on this adventure. Very amusing for me, very good for you and profitable too, very
likely, if you ever get over it {Tolkien, The Hobbit 19}. This demonstrates Gandalf being the call to
adventure by insisting Bilbo go on his

Measure Success In Relation To An American Society
How do we measure success in relation to an American society? , The answer isn t really
definitive. I would say that the meaning of success varies depending on who you ask. To some,
success can simply mean, being the best at something. To others, success is measured on some
sort of accomplishment (for example: getting honours in school or receiving a promotion).
Everyday, we search through the web and news stations, looking to see who made it and set our
goals to either meet or go farther than them. We praise those who are successful and usually
disregard those who aren t. Our parents always want the best for us; they want us to one day be on
covers of magazines and news articles to show others how great their children are. Some parents

How Advertisements Can Not Be Escaped
Advertisements have taken many forms over the all of history. They have taken in the form of
newspapers, billboards, magazines and television commercials however as Kay (2001) says that
when it comes to online advertising to Barbara Kaye and Norman Medoff online advertising is a
quite recent phenomenon. According to Collins (1999), in 1994 the first banner ad was made by
hotwired.com. And since then the advertisingphenomenon has exploded in every possible website
and social media outlet in existence today. You even cannot watch a YouTube video without see an
advertisement pop up in front of you before your video begins. Fortunately, some times you have
the option to skip almost most of the advertisement if you do not want to see it but for the most part
in every other part of the Internetyou cannot escape advertisements. Even education websites have
advertisements everywhere for plagiarism checker to books stores advertisements cannot be
escaped what ever you do. Anyone might legally wonder why this is this the case and the
underlying answer to that question is economics which is going to be one of this essay s parts
and its association with advertisements. We will then take a look on banner ads and how they
affect advertising especially with regard to another forms of advertising that have permeated the
internet since the beginning of online advertisements was back to 1994. After we take a look at the
evolution of advertisements, we will take a look at how

The Importance And Influence Of The Romanesque Era
Taking a journey through the historical time line of the past, it is clear to see that change
occurs. Some periods illustrate more change than others, some of them are of greater influence
than the period before it, and then there are those that are not only influential from an art
perspective, but also from the perspective of the styles ability to spread across a whole region. A
period that specifically displayed this capability was the Romanesque era. The Romanesque era
was a period in time which was actually not based on the premise of geographical location or
political stance, but more on the premise of the artistry and architectural design during that time
(Kleiner, 2014). It is suggested that the influence of the Romanesque artistic styles was largely
due to the volume of pilgrimages that were taking place in search of sacred cover and the outcome
of the crusades during this time (Petzold, 2017). This era did not only provide one influential style
across the region, but many such as, church architecture, architectural structures, sculptures,
paintings, and decorations; all of which can be considered Romanesque art (Kleiner, 2014). Of the
Romanesque era, each piece of art even from different countries of origin were affected by the
economy, politics, and religious influence or concern, yet regardless each had a unique presence
that represented the Romanesque period. One of the potential biggest influences over the
Romanesque period and its style was largely due to the

Roaring 20 s Vs. Swinging
Roaring 20 s vs. Swinging 60 s Taking a look back in time, so much has changed, especially in
the time period between the 1920 s and 1960 s. The 1920 s and 1960 s are two decades that have
really defined the United States culture. From flappers to hippies, jazz music to rock, and Civil
Rights movements, these two decades have helped shape the beliefs and rights we have today.
The 1920s were an age of social and political change that would change the face of history in the
United States. The 1960s are considered the most consequential and controversial decade of the
twentieth century due to the rise of feminism, the Vietnam War and political and social
atmospheres becoming divided. Despite the forty year gap between the two decades, they share
a great deal of similarities, many of which have changed history. The 1920s was a decade of
great social change and political conflicts. The roles of women have changed profoundly since the
1920s. During the time of World War 1, many women took the place of the males in factories,
hospitals, and any other place men worked. When men returned from the war, women felt they
should be entitled to the same rights as men, such as voting. This caused a great debate but in
August of 1920, this all changed; the 19th amendment was added to the Constitution, giving
women the right to vote. Women felt they were almost as superior as men once they were able to
vote. As a result, women felt they could do as they pleased. This is where the term

The Satyricon Compare And Contrast
Both the writing and movie of The Satyricon shocked viewers and still do, however there are
several occurrences in both that are not seen in the other. To start, both the reading and the video
start similarly, but the video version adds more to the story. The movie adds to the plot by having
Asciltos sell Giton to an actor named Vernacchio. In the writing Encolpius simply finds Asciltos
and Giton. The reasoning for this addition is unknown, but when making a movie the director needs
to keep viewers interested. By adding a twist to the plotthe viewer gets a similar but different story.

The Would Be Gentleman And The Marriage Of Figaro
The focus of this paper will be to compare and contrast the works of two playwrights. The works
that will be considered are MoliГЁre s The Would Be Gentleman and Beaumarchais s The
Marriage of Figaro. Both considered comedies, Moliere s is a short play that tells the tale of
Monsieur Jourdain, a tradesman who desires to become a gentleman. Beaumarchais s play,
second in the Figaro trilogy, follows the series of event prior to Figaro s wedding. Figaro and his
companions scheme to ensure that his marriage occurs smoothly. Furthermore, the plays are dated
100 years apart from each other, and they deal with the representation of social hierarchy, social
mobility, and gender roles in various ways. With that in mind, they become good sources to
compare and contrast the changes in society that occurred within those 100 years. This paper will
compare both plays to examine how MoliГЁrefurther endorses the social values and ideas of his
time, while Beaumarchais s presents a shift in attitude towards those values and challenges them.
Before delving into the analysis, it is important to establish some context of the time that
MoliГЁre s The Would Be Gentleman was first performed. The play was first performed in 1670,
which would have occurred during the reign of Louis XIV. As the editor of this collection
establishes in the introduction, one of MoliГЁre s main audiences was the King. Considering the
King was a main spectator, what tastes would you need to please in order to satisfy the

by the people that took them from their homes in Africa and brought them to America. They
would not be slaves if these certain conditions had not happened but since they did, they became
instruments of labor and capital for their owners to sell and use as they saw fit. Many slaves in
the movie were nothing more than exchange value. Exchange value, at first sight, presents itself
as a quantitative relation, as the proportion in which values in use of one sort are exchanged for
those of another sort (Edles and Appelrouth 2015:76). In the movie Django s wife was to be sold
to him and Dr. Schultz for $12,000 because that was what Mr. Candie believed her to be

Maxim Killed Rebecca
Whenever beloved books appear on screen, there are critical changes made which can be either
beneficial and detrimental to the audience s response to the film. Films can either capture the
entirety of a book, or change the plot so drastically it becomes reminiscent of the book. This often
leads to the age old argument of whether the book or filmis better. In the film interpretation of
Rebecca, Hitchcock manipulates Du Maurier s intended theme of justice and judgment by altering
the purpose of critical scenes, characters, and the ending of the book through the cinematography
and reconstruction of key events.
Rebecca is never present in the book, but has the most influential role in the story. In the book,
Maxim killed Rebecca because he wanted out of her wrath; her earthly power was too much for
him to bear. This portrayed him as a hurting man who seeked revenge. Hitchcock s version
majorly changed this as he made Rebecca haphazardly die, changing the audience s perception on
Maxim. This staged him as a victim, rather than a murderer. Doing this allowed the audience to
side with Maxim and Rebecca s side rather than the side of Ms. Danvers and Rebecca s family. ...

Ms. Danvers is viewed as stone cold and drenched in misery in both versions of the story. Her
maternal love for Rebecca was so strong she still had not moved on, over a year later. Since
Rebecca was murdered in du Maurier s original take, there was sympathy attached to her sullen
demeanor. It is implied that she knows what happened deep down but had trouble coping with it.
But as she is portrayed in the movie the same way, there is no sympathy with her because it was
an accident, and no deeper meaning that comes along with it; there is no reason she should be
grieving this hard as all the others who knew Rebecca have

Crime Statistics Do Not Reflect True Crime Rates Essay
Crime statistics are not what we are led to believe. We hear a lot about the crime rates going up
and down from the media and they tend to expand on specific types of criminal behavior that might
be of interest to the public. When politicians are running for office we are told that the crime rates
are down due to the tough crimepolicies that they have been implemented. Citizens seek crime
rates for assistance in determining if the area they reside in is safe. Some people wish to get a
general idea of the crime rates for a specific neighborhood where they are thinking of purchasing a
house. But what is never explained is where do the crime statistics come from and were there any

By police agencies using this form of statistical classifying, there is a major loss in the data of
the lower crimes on the scale. A complete total of certain crimes are not included in the statistics
creating several inaccuracies in the totals. The UCR policy does not require all crimes to be
reported to the state. Violations of the General City Ordinance and Vehicle and Traffic Law are
considered too low for the hierarchy scale. These types of crimes are never included in the
monthly submission and we generally never hear about them. Since crime statistics begin at the
forefront of the police department, the police officer, this leaves a lot of room for unreliability.
Police officers create crime data by completing and submitting crime reports and arrest reports.
These reports include all of the pertinent information necessary for the committed crime(s) for a
specific incident.
There are times when police officers fail to complete written reports of certain crimes or they
downgrade the offense of a report to a less serious offense. Meanwhile, some police reports are
over rated in the seriousness of certain offenses. At the end of each officer s shift the reports and
arrest records are submitted to the appropriate unit or division of occurrence. Within a day or two
these records are then transferred to a central records department and maintained at this location.

The definition of conflict is the opposition of persons or forces that gives rise to the dramatic
action in a drama. In Shakespeare s Hamlet, the main character experiences conflict throughout
the play. Shakespeare s Hamlet is full of events leading to conflict and drama. This conflict
creates tension and builds interest in the audience. First, Hamlet s internal conflicts play a
significant role in the drama. Hamlet has a difficult time coming to terms with his mother s

Witte suggests that religion played a role in some of Hamlet s struggles. When Hamlet sees the

The people of the time believed that purgatory was a state people would be in after death but
prior to going to heaven. Hamlet felt the need to help his father ascend to heaven. This increased
his desire to seek revenge. Also, in Act V, scene I, the two gravediggers are preparing Ophelia s

religious doctrines at the time, people who committed suicide did not receive a Christian burial. The

Critical Analysis Of The Franklin Series By Paulette...
Critical analysis of the Franklin series by Paulette Bourgeois A children s story is the first step a
child is introduced to in terms of reading and literature. These books give children enjoyment,
develops their feeling and imagination. And it might also help children resolve problems by
creatively portraying the issue in the book and also by teaching how to deal with it in an

can be bad and how it can impact a child. This probably teaches the childmoral values and also
entertains them. Getting a child to sit through an entire book is a hard task. Since children are
known to be fidgety and playful. To get the child s attention Paulette Bourgeois uses rhyme

illustrator of the Franklin series uses colors which pop and are vivid to get a child s attention.

treated less favorably compared to the European Union s (EU) domestic seal products and
Greenland s, the EU Seal Regime (measure that prohibits seal products into the EU) creates
obstacles and trade restrictions that are unnecessary and that some of the procedural requirements
go against requirements of the conformity assessment, Travellers conditions create quantitative
restrictions on trade, and the Regime hurts any benefits accrued to them under covered agreements
(Panel Report, 2013). The EU, on the other hand, claims that their Seal Regime meets obligations of
the World Trade Organization(WTO). Three conditions applied to seal products are as follows:
the products were received from seals hunted by Inuit or Indigenous communities, the products
were received from seals hunted for marine resource management, and travelers are allowed to
bring seal products in limitation. The EU claims that the regulations put into place in 2009 and

should not cause suffering of animals without clear justification (Europa, 2013). The EU argue that
inconsistencies claimed by Canada and Norway within the GATT 1994 should be considered as
justified because they are working to protect public morals and seals health. They also argue that,

The problem Disney Consumer

distributors require exclusive rights in Lebanon for the items they carry as the market is too small
to support competing distributors. However, the market is too small for such exclusive rights. On
top of the above, there is this problem of the Lebanese retailers ability to purchase Disney
merchandise from US or European Disney licenses wholesalers and resell it in Lebanon.
Moreover, DCPEME was looking into several different distribution options. One was to rely on the
company?s licenses? current distributors, while also encouraging its worldwide licenses not
represented in Lebanon to sign agreements with one of these distributors. A problem with the above
mentioned approach is that current official distributors might not have the motivation or financial
strength to distribute more Disney products and in turn favor other products yielding higher
margins. Another option was to identify existing Lebanese distributors that might sell Disney
products not yet present in the market, but this approach would mean a challenge of coordinating
and supporting organizations unfamiliar with
Disney products. Finally, DCPEME could license one or more Disney

with HIV from a fatal death sentence to a manageable chronic disease which enables sufferers to
lead full lives. 96% of people living with HIV in the UK accessed ART treatment (Figure 2) in 2016.

Non adherence also increases risk of developing drug resistant viruses putting other members of the
population at risk.
Depression is a common aliment for people suffering from HIV sometimes triggered by life
stresses and stigma resulting from a HIV+ diagnosis. Stress itself is important as it can decrease
adherence and also directly suppress immune function thereby decrease CD4+ levels exacerbating
the effects of non adherence. Patients who were diagnosed as depressed were 1.76 times more
likely than those who were not depressed to not adhere to their ART regimen.
Prescription of antidepressants and psychotherapy sessions demonstrated an increase in ART
adherence. Mindfulness training (MT) involves redirecting attention, avoiding emotional reactions
and developing skills of self regulation. In comparison to a control group the group with an MT
intervention had a decreased viral load on follow up suggesting increased adherence. Studies have
shown that MT decreases anxiety, depression whilst improving sleep quality and cognitive function.
As ARTs do not result in a cure throughout a person s lifetime many different regiments may be
prescribed targeting various stages of the virus replicative cycle. To decreases risk of resistance

prescribes between one to four pills daily. As shown in the AACTG and the Danish

Boeing Legal Impact Analysis Boeing Essay

Subject: Boeing Legal Impact Analysis
Boeing: An Overview
Boeing is the largest aerospace company and the largest manufacturer of commercial and military
aircraft in the world. Boeing s military aircraft come equipped with missiles, satellite, launch
vehicles and advanced information and communication systems. Boeing is also the number one
U.S. exporter when it comes to sales. Boeing s aircraft are flown each and every day, all across
the United States and the world. Because their products are used so heavily, and daily for that
matter, product liability is a major concern for Boeing. The fact that their products interact
directly with the men and women who fly these planes, and that nearly every flight has an
average of 200 or more people on board, these products need to be safe and thoroughly tested. On
that note, health and safety is another major area of legal concern for Boeing. If a fatal accident
were to occur, wrongful death cases are sure to come up if the manufacturer is found at fault. These
cases can cost the company upwards of 100 million dollars in revenue, not to mention the bad
publicity that is derived from them as well. One must take into account that the amount of fatal
accidents that occur where the manufacturer is at fault is on the decline, with only 20 percent of
fatal accidents occurring due to a mechanical failure of some sort, where as pilot error attributes

Victim Assistance Program Essay
Advocacy Programs
As of late, there are many times when we all needed a shoulder to cry on or simply just someone to
talk to. Chaplains are volunteers, normally associated with a religious institution, that volunteer to
help in times of need. They are there to help emergency personnel, as well as, citizens. There are
certainly more pros then cons with Chaplains. Chaplains are there to help, anyone. The only
negative could be someone wanting a specific religious group and not getting it. According to
www.ThePoliceChaplainProgram.org (2016), the role of the Chaplain is to be the balancer. The
Police Chaplain is to provide support for Police Officer and civilians in their needs. Chaplains are

People continuously need help, especially victims of crimes. Victims need assistance in all sorts
of ways. Depending on the situation victims may need someone to talk to, help in court, and
may need some sort of aftercare of therapy. There are many victim assistant programs that can do
all these things and more. Today I am going to focus on a program based in Ohio and can be
found online at www.victimassistanceprogram.org. This program offers a wide variety of services
to help victims. Again, the pros far exceed the cons. One of biggest cons I can come up with, is a
victim not connecting or liking the advocate assigned to them. The Victim Assistance Program
offers a 24 hour hotline so people can call in any time to get help. According to their website (2013),
Victim Assistance Program staff, interns and volunteers share the responsibility of providing
victims with support on the 24 hour crisis hotline. Because our agency serves victims of all crime
types, those answering the hotline are trained to offer compassionate and nonjudgmental crisis
intervention, emotional support, safety plans, information on victims legal rights, community
referrals as well as education on common reactions crime victims may

Jacob Kounin s Discipline And Group Management In Classroom
First, Elearn Portal,(2016) post the Kounin Mode theory of Jacob Kounin. He is recognized for two
studies concerning classroom management in the 1970 s. These readings emphasized how teachers
could manage students, lessons and classrooms to reduce the incidence of bad behaviour. This
theorist acknowledged definite teaching techniques that help, and hinder, classroom discipline.
Bestowing to Kounin, the method used, not the teacher s personality, is the most crucial aspect in
classroom managementof student behaviour. The title of his book is Discipline and Group
Management in Classrooms which centres on preventive discipline. He says that, good classroom
management depends on operative lessonmanagement. He also acknowledged a group of proactive
teacher behaviours that famed effective classroom managers from ineffective ones. These are;
ripple effect, wittiness, overlapping, effective transitions, momentum, smoothness and class
management. (Higgins, 2014)

ability to preserve instructional time by eliminating many of the common barriers to a smooth class

Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation
An organization may have any number of goals, for example, sales growth, market leadership,
profit maximization and customer satisfaction. It is clear that an organization will only be
successful if employees are performing their tasks at a consistently high level and in line with the
company s objectives. To achieve this, organizations have tended to reward employees who
demonstrate this high level of performance and behavior (Gatenby et al., 2008). These rewards may
be intrinsic and/or extrinsic. Many theorists have critically discussed the core aspects of employee
motivation, concluding that intrinsic and extrinsic rewards will only be motivating if these are of
value to the individual. Intrinsic motivation lies in the internal satisfaction of an individual
concerning only the enjoyment of the task itself. Whereas extrinsic motivation focuses on external
outcomes, in particular financial rewards (Psycnet.apa.org, 2017). In this essay rewards will be
regarded as tangible or intangible assets in response to an individual s achievement (Oxford
DictionariesвЋЄEnglish, 2017), and motivation will focus on the behavioral aspects of why an
individual s productivity and performance increases.
The extent to which an individual values a certain reward is entirely dependent on their personal
preferences and circumstances, as well as the composition of the task. When the reward received is
the reward most valued, motivation could increase only to the point where a competitive

Democracy And The Age Of Information Abundance Essay
Democracy in the age of information abundance:
The impact of new technologies to our democratic political system
Introduction
Never before, in the history of time, has our ability to collaborate and communicate on a massive
scale been so achievable. (Papay Timby, 2014)
With the emergence of new technologies, there are more individuals that can have better access to
media and information. Experts believe that to some extent it strengthens democracy as there are
more numbers of individuals taking part in any democratic process including the increasing public
awareness to monitor political processes. Furthermore, it raises collaborations between the
government and the public in solving problems at different levels. Unfortunately, the abundance of
information has arguably created radical demand of transparency and potential excessive
surveillance that decelerate the government processes and decision making process as the public
sector begin to be too cautious and timid.
Before going too far, by new technologies, this essay focuses on new, computer and internet based
media technologies as the fact that they play an important role in widening and strengthening
information access that is significant to democracy (Barber, 2003). There are numbers of these
types of technologies including, but not limited to, social media, online surveys, voting and
deliberative polling, internet based focus groups, and online petitions (Keane, 2009). Their
emergence is highly supported by various

Argumentative Essay On Truck Drivers
Driving a semi truck isn t the most glamorous job in the world. It requires long hours, days, or
weeks, away from home, and it s physically demanding. Still, there are thousands of truck drivers
across the country that truly wouldn t have it any other way. To these hardy folks, driving a big
rig isn t just a job, it s a way of life. Surely, they must receive some sort of perks that make it all
worth while? Yes, they do. In fact, there are three major benefits of working for an OTR trucking
company that keep drivers rolling along.
Excellent Pay
For the most part, newly licensed truck drivers can expect to enter the job market with a salary of
somewhere around $45,000 the first year. Depending upon the company they work for, and the
cargo they haul, experienced driver s pay can reach six digits. What s more, they often receive
benefits such as a 401K, health insurance, and bonuses. This is exceptional, especially when you
consider the fact that obtaining a commercial driver s license (CDL) takes weeks, rather than
years. Now take into consideration the cost of training, which is literally a couple thousand dollars,
rather than the tens of thousands of dollars a college degree costs. ... Show more content on

CDL holders with a clean record, who are safety conscious and professional are among the most
valuable employees. They can easily move from one company to another, often increasing their
pay along the way. There are also ample opportunities for advancement, such as obtaining a
HAZMAT endorsement, or working in the oil and gas industry, both of which command an even
higher salary. For those that prefer to work on their own, becoming an independent owner/operator
is always an option. This kind of job security is unheard of in most industries.

The Social Responsibility Of Corporations Essay
Abstract
This paper explores the importance of social responsibility within corporations. This paper also
explores The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its Profits by Milton Friedman and
his stance on social responsibility. Friedman believed that corporations should not waste money on
new initiatives if it was just to appease the public, especially if it went above what laws required.
Examples are shown how corporations must listen to the customer or it could hurt the profitability
of the corporation, with social media being a big tool to press issues. Also discussed are laws that
support socially responsible initiatives such as pollution reduction that direct and provide incentives
for businesses. Keywords: Milton Friedman, The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its
Profits, social media, social responsibility, Smuckers, GMO, genetically modified organisms, The
Pollution Prevention Act of 1990
The Goal of the Firm
According to Investopedia, Milton Friedman was an American economist and statistician known
for his strong beliefs in free market capitalism. Friedman was also opposed to any government
ran programs that regulated policy that was used for the purpose of fueling business activity and
employment. In 1970, Friedman wrote an article labeled The Social Responsibility of Business is
to Increase its Profits . The basic premise of the article was to argue that business should not worry

Reflective Reflection On Hinduism

Hinduism Reflection
Hinduism is a major world and oldest extant religion with a billion followers which started in the
Indian subcontinent. It has a variety of systems of philosophy, belief, and ritual, characterized by
the belief in reincarnation one absolute being of multiple manifestations, the law of cause and
effect, following the path of righteousness, and the desire for liberation from the cycle of births and
deaths. Hinduism refers to rich tradition of texts and practices, some of which date back to the
second millennium BC or possibly earlier. In the early 21st century, Hinduism had nearly one
billion adherents worldwide and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do not want to make a case for either the monotheistic or polytheistic imagination and say that one
is better than the other. In healthy people both can fruitfully coexist, and both have their drawbacks.
The downside to the monotheistic imagination is a tendency toward one sided absolutism. It is
crazy that there are millions of Gods in Hinduism, but Christianity has only one. Hindus are
encouraged to relate to god in the way that suits them best, like worshipping many deities who
are believed to be manifestations of God. I think people believe in multiple Gods because just
like an organization that has different people who take up different roles, different Gods have
different responsibilities. Because gods aren t supported by evidence, people have to use their
imagination to interpret their will, which due to the absence of evidence, will vary from person to
person, and nobody can demonstrate, with evidence, that one person s imagined god id any more
real than anyone else s imagined god. As everyone knows that god is everywhere and watches us,
and in Hinduism also they believe that god is everywhere and in everything. So, the polytheistic
imaginations in Hinduism makes sense since they believe God is everywhere, Hindus worship
pretty much everything like Stones, directions, plants, animals

Warning Signs Of The Sandy Hook Massacre
Screaming, shuffling, and urging... teachers ushered students to safety inside bathrooms and
classrooms after Adam Lanza shot the first bullet with his semi automatic, AR 15 assault rifle.
Lanza shot 20 students that day, after killing his mother earlier. Imagine if Lanza s community
had known the signs to look for. That massacre could have been prevented. Moved by the event, a
non profit appropriately named, Sandy Hook Promise, arose to educate the populous on the
warning signs of gun violence. To that aim, they created Evan a public service announcement
(PSA) that shocked the country. First, viewers see the story of a boy and girl s relationship
blossom. Then several days pass in the plot, when suddenly another character starts open fire...

seem vital at the moment, much like how the young couple in the video felt, reflection exposes
that the most significant duty of each human on earth is to care for one another. If only those

Alcoholism In Crash Into Me
Peer Pressure is frequently involved with excessive drinking on college campuses. Alcohol is
prominent in the college culture because it is presented at many social affairs and is part of many
gatherings with peers. Because peers are the most salient social referents in the college
environment, they are a potent influence on alcohol use. Most new acquaintances at collegewill be
drinkers: recent research indicating that four out of five college students drink. In addition,
college peers tend to be more approving of alcohol use. Exposure to such drinking often leads to
increased alcohol use: students residing in places where heavy drinking is approved and where
alcoholic beverages and the places to consume them are readily available will... Show more content

In the book Crash Into Me by Liz Seccuro, the audience is taught one of the leading consequence of
alcoholism; rape. Some of the major causes of Alcoholism in college are: availability of
alcohol(Pg. 44), social pressure(Pg. 46), and genetic susceptibility to alcohol. Exploring the
causes of alcoholism helps lead to the conclusion that alcohol is a huge part of college culture
and there needs to be a policy to help prevent alcoholistic incidents (like what happened in Crash
Into Me) from happening. One policy that can help with the problem of alcoholism in college
is; imposing liability to the social host that is responsible for the underaged drinking at the party.
This policy proposes the idea that social hosts are in violation of: furnishing alcohol to a minor,
and allowing underaged drinking to occur on property that they control. Thus leading to the
point that; the social host may be prosecuted by the State under a criminal statute and face a fine
or imprisonment for the criminal violation (Alcohol Policy Information System n.d.). This
policy can be considered neutral because it contains both conservative and liberal aspects. The
policy proposes more of a moral stance on who s responsible for the events that happen at the
party and the results of what the alcohol does to the underaged drinkers after the party. The idea
of this policy is that the social host is responsible(as well as the person who committed the
crime) and receives a fine or imprisonment for the violation of the law. This policy would help
alcoholism in college because the social hosts would be more vigilant about who drinks or does
drugs at a party that takes place on property that they control. For example; a Fraternity decides to
throw a party, the fraternity mother/father would be in charge of knowing who is drinking and
would attempt to imply precautions to avoid a violation of the law that would ultimately have them
face imprisonment

What Does Runaway Kanye West Mean
Runaway Kanye West
A year before this song was released Kanye West had his famous moment when he interrupted
Taylor Swifts VMA acceptance speech. After that moment he was tortured by the media and
hated by many. The following year he performed this song Runaway at the next VMA s. I
believe it was an apology to women he had hurt and disrespected, Taylor being one of them, and
showed how lonely and vulnerable Kanye is. I think it impacted the way people view Kanye, and
affected a culture of men as he describes as douchbags , and scum bags and how men in society
need to change. It is a Kanye Westsong, so the quality and production of the song is made very
well. Kanye is not know to have less the perfect producing on his songs or his album. ... Show more

loneliness of that fact he can t really connect, so he drowns himself in money and random girls,
and feels helpless to change that fact. I absolutely love Kanye, but was shocked that he wrote a

The Importance Of Energy
Energy is a crucial necessity in life for humans and wildlife. Quality of life is dependent on our
accessibility of energy. The environmental crisis has been felt by everyone in some way. The need
for energy continues to increase as the population grows. Relying on past resources for energy will
continue to torment the environment and negatively impact the level of supply. Energy is a
resource that can be depleted if the abuse continues. Pollution from energy sources has caused the
environment to deteriorate. The negative influences from energy sources has caused health
problems, loss of wildlife and abuse of other resources. In order to protect public health and the
future of the environment, preventable measures must be taken.
Energy is used for everything we do in life. The two types of energy sources are renewable and
nonrenewable. Nonrenewable energy is a source that cannot be used again because it does not
renew itself. Renewable energy is a source that can be used again because it can be replenished.
There are different sources available for each type of energy. Each resource has its own advantages
and disadvantages. Each source has economic and ecological impacts that need to be evaluated.
More than 80% of energy in the US comes from fossil fuels (Eia). Fossil fuel is the world s primary
energy source (Eia). Fossil fuels are used for transportation, heating and electricity. Natural gas is
used for electricity and heating homes and buildings. Coal is used to generate

  • 2. `` The Scarlett Letter `` By Roger Chillingworth Because of the irrational and nonsensical actions of virtually every character in The Scarlett Letter, I find it extremely difficult to substantiate a claim that I empathize with any of them on any genuine level. However, for the sake of completing this summer s reading assignment, I will resort to writing about the only person who displays typical human behavior in a way to which I can somewhat relate Roger Chillingworth. Though cynical, egocentric, and (dare I say) satanic, Roger Chillingworth goes about his business in such a realistic way (as compared to the rest of the fictional characters) that he instills in the reader a sense of understanding of his motives. Unlike the other characters, I am fully able to empathize with the frustration and distressful emotions that overcame Chillingworth. It is logical to assume that hatred and vengefulness would blossom in a man if, upon arrival to a new world, he learned that his wife was in the midst of an affair. In Chillingworth, we see one of Nathaniel Hawthorne s characters react for the first time, and perhaps the only time, in an authentic fashion. At first, Chillingworth attempts to distance himself from the idea of revenge when he claims that he shall [not] interfere with Heaven s own method of retribution (69). This claim, however, does not last long, and soon he succumbs to his sinful desire to burrow into the clergyman s intimacy, and plot against his soul (112). The pain of sitting ... Nuclear Power And Clean Energy Development Moreover, The Twelfth Five year Plan emphasized the necessity of developing nuclear energy in the premise of ensuring the safety according to the new situation. At the Third Nuclear Security Summit held in Hague, Netherlands, in 2014, the national president Xi Jinping pointed out that when it came to develop nuclear energy, development and security were the priorities. At the two session of the twelve National People s Congress, Prime Minister Li Keqiang said that China should enhance energy conservation and emission reduction, improve the proportion of non fossil energy generation, start a number of hydropower and nuclear powerprojects to promote high speed rail, nuclear power and other technical equipment moving toward the world.... • 4. The Phantom of the Opera Essay The Phantom of the Opera is a novel written by Gaston Leroux. The novel takes place in Paris. The exact time is unknown but would be around 1910. The reviews from the critics are very different. Although Gaston Leroux s The Phantom of the Opera has not generally been highly commended by critics, many would agree that there are several elements that prove Leroux to be a talented writer. One of the strongest elements in the novel is the narrator s voice. The narrator is on a quest, starting out with the question of whether the opera ghost was real and is trying to find evidence in order to reach a conclusion. He takes the reader behind the scenes of the opera. He does this with the themes of appearance and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Horror is another important theme. The most distinct horror device is Erik s face. Though he is described as having a disease, its manifestation gives him the exact semblance of a skull, so that even as a young man he was able to travel to county fairs and bill himself as the living dead man (Newark). The last theme is innocence. The phantom s anger with the society that has rejected him is balanced in this novel with the simple innocence of the love between Christine Daae and Raoul de Chagny (Newark). The narration of a novel is also any important part of a novel. The narrator is never known but it can be assumed that what he describes is accurate from the story he is telling, even though he was never there when the events occurred. Leroux is pretending that the story is being reconstructed from a variety of sources newspaper articles, memoirs, interviews with witnesses and archives. The narrator tells how he researched the legend of the phantom for many years. The narration is roughly thirty years after the events conveyed in the novel. At the beginning, the narrator insists, The Opera ghost really existed. He was not, as was long believed, a creature of the imagination of the artist, the superstition of the managers, or a product of the absurd and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Social Conflict Theory SOCIAL CONFLICT THEORY Introduction Social conflict theory is a Marxist based social theory which argues that individuals and groups (social classes) within society have differing amounts of material and non material resources (the wealthy vs. the poor) and that the more powerful groups use their power in order to exploit groups with less power. The two methods by which this exploitation is done are through brute force usually done by police and the army and economics. Earlier social conflict theorists argue that money is the mechanism which creates social disorder. The theory further states that society is created from ongoing social conflict between various groups. There are other theories of deviance, the functionalist theory, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He hears that the instruments of production are to be exploited in common, and, naturally, can come to no other conclusion that the lot of being common to all will likewise fall to the women. He has not even a suspicious that the real point aimed at is to do away with the status of women as mere instruments of production. For the rest, nothing is more ridiculous than the virtuous indignation of our bourgeois at the community of women which, they pretend, is to be openly and officially established by the Communists. The Communists have no need to introduce community of women; it has existed almost from time immemorial. Our bourgeois, not content with having wives and daughters of their proletarians at their disposal, not to speak of common prostitutes, take the greatest pleasure in seducing each other s wives. Bourgeois marriage is, in reality, a system of wives in common and thus, at the most, what the Communists might possibly be reproached with is that they desire to introduce, in substitution for a hypocritically concealed, an openly legalised community of women. For the rest, it is self evident that the abolition of the present system of production must bring with it the abolition of the community of women springing from that system, i.e., of prostitution both public and private. • 6. Assess the View That Social Class Differences in... Assess the view that social class differences in educational achievement are the result of school processes such as labeling. (20 marks) Labelling refers to meanings or definitions we attach to someone or something to make sense of them and these could be negative or positive labels. For example, in schools teachers are likely to label middle class pupils as bright and more able to achieve in education whereas, they would see working class pupils as less able. Teacher labels can affect a pupil s educational achievement as it will influence how they perform educationally. However, there are other school factors which cause underachievement and these are, the self fulfilling prophecy, streaming and pupil subculture. There have been a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, teachers may give a negative label to a working class pupil and see them as badly behaved as a result, the pupil would accept that label and live up to it. Therefore, pupils given negative labels may see themselves as failures and give up trying consequently, fulfilling the original prophecy. Some sociologists would argue that streaming can affect a pupil s educational achievement. Streaming refers to separating children into different ability groups or classes called streams . Each group is then taught separately, according to their ability for all subjects. In Becker s study, teachers did not see working class children as ideal pupils and were seen as lacking ability therefore, they were placed in a lower stream. This leads to self fulfilling prophecy as pupils except their teachers low expectations by under achieving. For example, Douglas found that children placed in a lower stream at the age of 8 suffered a decline in their IQ score by the age of 11. In addition, sociologists would argue that pupil subcultures affect the pupils educational achievement. For example, the pro school subculture contains pupils who have been placed in higher streams and are committed to school values. Theses pupils are more likely to be middle class therefore they tend to achieve in education. However, the anti school subculture contains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Preventing Obesity Among School Children through Healthier School Meals Obesity and overweight are among the pressing health problems among children and adolescents in the developed world. Obesity refers to an excess amount of body fat whereas overweight can be measured by the BMI index or height weight ratio. According to the WHO (2012), obesity and overweight are the fifth largest risk for global deaths. Introduction Obesity and overweight among children and adolescents has increased to more than a third of children and adolescents (CDC, 2012). Children and adolescents consume 700 to 1000 more calories per day than required (NCCOR, 2012). School lunches mostly consist of fried and salty foods, which has prompted ex military officers to call for legislation on healthy school lunches (Spillius, 2010). Problem Identification Such children are likely to have higher risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in later years (CDC, 2012). Obesity in children and adolescents can lead to greater susceptibility to the following in later years: Asthma High blood pressure Bone and joint problems Sleep apnea Low self esteem Problem Identification Children and adolescents often resort to unhealthy ways of controlling weight including: Crash diets Binge eating, leading to bulimia nervosa Starvation Drugs, e.g. cocaine Laxatives Hence, there is a need to develop healthy ways of controlling obesity in children. • 8. Bilbo s Archetypes In The Hobbit One little hobbit s life shall change forever with adventure lurking by for tea. Bilbo displays three archetypes throughout his adventure. One of them is the call to adventure , where s the Tookish side of him awakens, and Gandalf presents Bilbo with an adventure, though without giving him an alternative. A second one is the magic item , for instance the magic ring. And ultimately, the supernatural aid , patently Gandalf for he is a wizard. Bilbo Bagginsof Bag End, Under Hill has invariably led a quiet and boring life. Well, at least he did until thirteen dwarves came rapping at his door. Bilbo displays the archetype the magic item when he finds the magic ring in the goblin tunnels. Then off he went from door to door, until his following had grown to twelve none of them any to nimble, what with the dark, and what with their long imprisonment { Tolkien, The Hobbit 174}. This displays Bilbo rescuing his comrades from the Elvenking s oubliettes with the backing of the ring. Dazzlingly marvelous! Perfect! Flawless! Staggering! exclaimed Bilbo aloud, but what he thought inside was: Old fool! Why there is a large patch in the hollow of his left breast as bare as a snail out of its shell! {... • 10. Measure Success In Relation To An American Society How do we measure success in relation to an American society? , The answer isn t really definitive. I would say that the meaning of success varies depending on who you ask. To some, success can simply mean, being the best at something. To others, success is measured on some sort of accomplishment (for example: getting honours in school or receiving a promotion). Everyday, we search through the web and news stations, looking to see who made it and set our goals to either meet or go farther than them. We praise those who are successful and usually disregard those who aren t. Our parents always want the best for us; they want us to one day be on covers of magazines and news articles to show others how great their children are. Some parents ... They have taken in the form of newspapers, billboards, magazines and television commercials however as Kay (2001) says that when it comes to online advertising to Barbara Kaye and Norman Medoff online advertising is a quite recent phenomenon. According to Collins (1999), in 1994 the first banner ad was made by hotwired.com. And since then the advertisingphenomenon has exploded in every possible website and social media outlet in existence today. You even cannot watch a YouTube video without see an advertisement pop up in front of you before your video begins. Fortunately, some times you have the option to skip almost most of the advertisement if you do not want to see it but for the most part in every other part of the Internetyou cannot escape advertisements. Even education websites have advertisements everywhere for plagiarism checker to books stores advertisements cannot be escaped what ever you do. Anyone might legally wonder why this is this the case and the underlying answer to that question is economics which is going to be one of this essay s parts and its association with advertisements. We will then take a look on banner ads and how they affect advertising especially with regard to another forms of advertising that have permeated the internet since the beginning of online advertisements was back to 1994. A period that specifically displayed this capability was the Romanesque era. The Romanesque era was a period in time which was actually not based on the premise of geographical location or political stance, but more on the premise of the artistry and architectural design during that time (Kleiner, 2014). It is suggested that the influence of the Romanesque artistic styles was largely due to the volume of pilgrimages that were taking place in search of sacred cover and the outcome of the crusades during this time (Petzold, 2017). This era did not only provide one influential style across the region, but many such as, church architecture, architectural structures, sculptures, paintings, and decorations; all of which can be considered Romanesque art (Kleiner, 2014). Of the Romanesque era, each piece of art even from different countries of origin were affected by the economy, politics, and religious influence or concern, yet regardless each had a unique presence that represented the Romanesque period. One of the potential biggest influences over the Romanesque period and its style was largely due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Roaring 20 s Vs. Swinging Roaring 20 s vs. Swinging 60 s Taking a look back in time, so much has changed, especially in the time period between the 1920 s and 1960 s. The 1920 s and 1960 s are two decades that have really defined the United States culture. From flappers to hippies, jazz music to rock, and Civil Rights movements, these two decades have helped shape the beliefs and rights we have today. The 1920s were an age of social and political change that would change the face of history in the United States. The 1960s are considered the most consequential and controversial decade of the twentieth century due to the rise of feminism, the Vietnam War and political and social atmospheres becoming divided. Despite the forty year gap between the two decades, they share a great deal of similarities, many of which have changed history. The 1920s was a decade of great social change and political conflicts. The roles of women have changed profoundly since the 1920s. During the time of World War 1, many women took the place of the males in factories, hospitals, and any other place men worked. When men returned from the war, women felt they should be entitled to the same rights as men, such as voting. This caused a great debate but in August of 1920, this all changed; the 19th amendment was added to the Constitution, giving women the right to vote. Women felt they were almost as superior as men once they were able to vote. As a result, women felt they could do as they pleased. This is where the term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both considered comedies, Moliere s is a short play that tells the tale of Monsieur Jourdain, a tradesman who desires to become a gentleman. Beaumarchais s play, second in the Figaro trilogy, follows the series of event prior to Figaro s wedding. Figaro and his companions scheme to ensure that his marriage occurs smoothly. Furthermore, the plays are dated 100 years apart from each other, and they deal with the representation of social hierarchy, social mobility, and gender roles in various ways. With that in mind, they become good sources to compare and contrast the changes in society that occurred within those 100 years. This paper will compare both plays to examine how MoliГЁrefurther endorses the social values and ideas of his time, while Beaumarchais s presents a shift in attitude towards those values and challenges them. Before delving into the analysis, it is important to establish some context of the time that MoliГЁre s The Would Be Gentleman was first performed. The play was first performed in 1670, which would have occurred during the reign of Louis XIV. • 21. The Sociological Analysis Of Django Unchained By Quentin... Django Unchained is a movie by Quentin Tarantino that goes into the life of a frees slave named Django. Django with the help of a bounty hunter Dr. Schultz, set out to rescue Django s wife from a brutal plantation owner she has been sold to. Django Unchained includes plenty of Karl Marx s concepts of sociological theory including capital, labor exploitation, class struggle, materialistic ideology, accumulation and Emile Durkheim s concept of crime. KARL MARX CAPITAL Capital is instruments of labor which includes slaves under Karl Marx s definition. Capital can be historically specific instead of just being materials. For example, a black person is a black person until someone makes him a slave in certain conditions. In Django Unchained, Django and his wife among many other slaves in the movie were made into slaves by the people that took them from their homes in Africa and brought them to America. They would not be slaves if these certain conditions had not happened but since they did, they became instruments of labor and capital for their owners to sell and use as they saw fit. Many slaves in the movie were nothing more than exchange value. Exchange value, at first sight, presents itself as a quantitative relation, as the proportion in which values in use of one sort are exchanged for those of another sort (Edles and Appelrouth 2015:76). In the movie Django s wife was to be sold to him and Dr. Schultz for $12,000 because that was what Mr. Candie believed her to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Maxim Killed Rebecca Whenever beloved books appear on screen, there are critical changes made which can be either beneficial and detrimental to the audience s response to the film. Films can either capture the entirety of a book, or change the plot so drastically it becomes reminiscent of the book. This often leads to the age old argument of whether the book or filmis better. In the film interpretation of Rebecca, Hitchcock manipulates Du Maurier s intended theme of justice and judgment by altering the purpose of critical scenes, characters, and the ending of the book through the cinematography and reconstruction of key events. Rebecca is never present in the book, but has the most influential role in the story. In the book, Maxim killed Rebecca because he wanted out of her wrath; her earthly power was too much for him to bear. This portrayed him as a hurting man who seeked revenge. Hitchcock s version majorly changed this as he made Rebecca haphazardly die, changing the audience s perception on Maxim. This staged him as a victim, rather than a murderer. Doing this allowed the audience to side with Maxim and Rebecca s side rather than the side of Ms. Danvers and Rebecca s family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A problem with the above mentioned approach is that current official distributors might not have the motivation or financial strength to distribute more Disney products and in turn favor other products yielding higher margins. Another option was to identify existing Lebanese distributors that might sell Disney products not yet present in the market, but this approach would mean a challenge of coordinating and supporting organizations unfamiliar with Disney products. Non adherence also increases risk of developing drug resistant viruses putting other members of the population at risk. Depression is a common aliment for people suffering from HIV sometimes triggered by life stresses and stigma resulting from a HIV+ diagnosis. Patients who were diagnosed as depressed were 1.76 times more likely than those who were not depressed to not adhere to their ART regimen. Prescription of antidepressants and psychotherapy sessions demonstrated an increase in ART adherence. Boeing Legal Impact Analysis Boeing Essay To: Head of Legal Analytics Department From: William Locklier Date: April 25, 2015 Subject: Boeing Legal Impact Analysis Boeing: An Overview Boeing is the largest aerospace company and the largest manufacturer of commercial and military aircraft in the world. Boeing s military aircraft come equipped with missiles, satellite, launch vehicles and advanced information and communication systems. Boeing is also the number one U.S. exporter when it comes to sales. Boeing s aircraft are flown each and every day, all across the United States and the world. Because their products are used so heavily, and daily for that matter, product liability is a major concern for Boeing. The fact that their products interact directly with the men and women who fly these planes, and that nearly every flight has an average of 200 or more people on board, these products need to be safe and thoroughly tested. On that note, health and safety is another major area of legal concern for Boeing. If a fatal accident were to occur, wrongful death cases are sure to come up if the manufacturer is found at fault. These cases can cost the company upwards of 100 million dollars in revenue, not to mention the bad publicity that is derived from them as well. It is clear that an organization will only be successful if employees are performing their tasks at a consistently high level and in line with the company s objectives. To achieve this, organizations have tended to reward employees who demonstrate this high level of performance and behavior (Gatenby et al., 2008). These rewards may be intrinsic and/or extrinsic. Many theorists have critically discussed the core aspects of employee motivation, concluding that intrinsic and extrinsic rewards will only be motivating if these are of value to the individual. Intrinsic motivation lies in the internal satisfaction of an individual concerning only the enjoyment of the task itself. Whereas extrinsic motivation focuses on external outcomes, in particular financial rewards (Psycnet.apa.org, 2017). Because gods aren t supported by evidence, people have to use their imagination to interpret their will, which due to the absence of evidence, will vary from person to person, and nobody can demonstrate, with evidence, that one person s imagined god id any more real than anyone else s imagined god. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book Crash Into Me by Liz Seccuro, the audience is taught one of the leading consequence of alcoholism; rape. Some of the major causes of Alcoholism in college are: availability of alcohol(Pg. 44), social pressure(Pg. 46), and genetic susceptibility to alcohol. Exploring the causes of alcoholism helps lead to the conclusion that alcohol is a huge part of college culture and there needs to be a policy to help prevent alcoholistic incidents (like what happened in Crash Into Me) from happening. One policy that can help with the problem of alcoholism in college is; imposing liability to the social host that is responsible for the underaged drinking at the party. This policy proposes the idea that social hosts are in violation of: furnishing alcohol to a minor, and allowing underaged drinking to occur on property that they control. Thus leading to the point that; the social host may be prosecuted by the State under a criminal statute and face a fine or imprisonment for the criminal violation (Alcohol Policy Information System n.d.). This policy can be considered neutral because it contains both conservative and liberal aspects. The policy proposes more of a moral stance on who s responsible for the events that happen at the party and the results of what the alcohol does to the underaged drinkers after the party. The idea of this policy is that the social host is responsible(as well as the person who committed the crime) and receives a fine or imprisonment for the violation of the law. This policy would help alcoholism in college because the social hosts would be more vigilant about who drinks or does drugs at a party that takes place on property that they control. For example; a Fraternity decides to throw a party, the fraternity mother/father would be in charge of knowing who is drinking and would attempt to imply precautions to avoid a violation of the law that would ultimately have them face imprisonment ...
