Essay On The Movie Goodfellas
For a second I thought I was dead, but when I heard all the noise I knew they were cops. Only
cops talked that way. If they had been wiseguys, I wouldn t have heard a thing. I would have
been dead ( Goodfellas 00:50:47 59). This is something that Henry Hill said when he is caught
by the police. Before this happened, Henry is trying to get some drugs on an airplane. There
were many events that lead up to Henry being detained by the police; he tried selling guns to
someone, he made dinner for his friends and family, and then he made a visit to his mistress.
While Henry is driving to each place, he is troubled by a helicopter that was following him.
Goodfellasis a film that was released in 1990, and the movie was directed by Martin Scorsese.
The movie is a popular one by all of the awards that it achieved. It is also based on a true story. The
visual elements that are used in this movie affect how the viewers see it. Throughout the movie, the
director uses music, camera angles, and lighting to contribute to the overall effect of the movie.
To start, the movie is centered around the character Henry Hill. Henry Hill is a gangster, and he
wanted to be one ever since he was a kid. He got a job working with the local gangsters as soon
as possible. He kept this away from his parents because he knew that they would not like it. Henry
eventually met with the people he would work with, and they were Tommy DeVito and Jimmy
Conway. The film progresses by showing all of the events that

Comparing Forms Of Federalism Per Merriam Webster
Comparing Forms of Federalism
The legal definition of federalism per Merriam Webster is the distribution of power in a federation
between the central authority and the constituent units (as states) involving especially the allocation
of significant lawmaking powers to those constituent units (Merriam Webster, 2003). This, in
simpler terms, means that it is a form of government in which there is a breaking down of powers
between two different levels of government that have equal status. The purpose of this paper is to
define and compare the three different types of federalism.
When the federalists system was created the founders were responding to the Articles of
Confederation and to the British government. The British Government operates ... Show more

The country was in desperate need of a turn around, a big change, a new deal; a deal between the
federal government, the states and the people. This country simply outgrew the naГЇve idea of dual
federalism and needed more cooperation within the two governments. The isolation of the two
would transition into a new federalism one that discouraged competition and encouraged
cooperation. The new federalism was coined cooperative federalism and it will be discussed next.
Cooperative Federalism
Cooperative federalism was mainly utilized from the 1930 s to the 1970 s. This is another view of
federalism where all three governments, national, state, and local, work together to solve problems
and issues. They use this method instead of making the three different governments write policies
separately which may be less effective. Also by using this type of federalism the three will not

Impact Of Romanticism In The Late Victorian Age
I was a man who stood in the symbolic relations to the art and culture of my age. 1
The late Victorian age saw a revolution in the sphere of art and literature. John Ruskin, Matthew
Arnold, Walter Pater, and Oscar Wilde were among the most influential art and literary critics of
the yellow nineties. They baffled the British opinion with their brand new stance on literature,
paintings, and sculptures. They turned criticism into a new form of art, which redefined and
theorised art as well as literature. Their new theories were utterly modern and absolutely new for
the period, which has come to be known as the English Renaissance. This English Renaissance of
Art was defined by Oscar Wilde as: a sort of new birth of the spirit of man, like ... Show more

The Blackwood s edition of the Edinburgh Magazine issued in July 1889 carried Wilde s
Portrait of Mr W.H, but Blackwood wrote to Wilde suggesting that the story be reprinted in a
volume from the Tales from Blackwood s.9 To which Wilde replied that the text was too literary.
10 Wilde had another idea for a collections of essays that had been written and published earlier
in the same year: will you compromise and bring it out in a special volume of essays and studies
by me? As a frontispiece we will have an etching of the fictitious Portrait of Mr W.H, 11 while
the other studies The Decay of lying and Pen, poison and Pencil had both been published in
periodicals the Nineteenth Century and the Fortnight in January 1889. Wilde had yet another
intention for his essays and wanted to published an extended version of The Portrait of Mr W.H
by itself. In 1890 Wilde returned to the idea of a collections of essays with a new essay, which
had been published in the Nineteenth Century in July and September 1890, this essay in two parts
was first entitled The True Function and value of criticism 12 and would later be know as The
Critic as Artist. In 1885 Wilde revised an essay originally called Shakespeare and Stage Costume
and turned it into The Truth of Masks. Intentions thus came into being, but not to Wilde s
satisfaction, he

Nintendo Australia
Question 1 Memorandum of Advice for Nintendo Australia Introduction Character merchandising
has become one of the most popular businesses in the market place. Therefore the tort of passing off
has been expanded by the common law, to protect the owners of fictional characters. Under the
section of unauthorised character merchandising, Nintendo Australia will have legal rights to assert
against Beta Bar for using the characters from PokГ©mon to promote their events. Passing off
Three elements should be satisfied, for a plaintiff to be successful in the tort of passing off.
Reputation or goodwill of the plaintiff is the first element and the plaintiff should be able to prove
that they have gained reputation among potential customers and in the minds of customers in some
sort of a trade indicia. The next element will be misrepresentation, where the plaintiff should prove
that the defendant relied on the reputation of the plaintiff and tried to mislead customers in the
market. Misrepresentation to affiliation, sponsorship or licencing, mere association and
misappropriation are the three ways of misrepresentation in character merchandising. In other

The Bolshevik Tactics that Allowed the October Revolution
Assess the view that it was mainly the tactics of the Bolshevik leadership that made possible the
October Revolution.
INTRO:
It was undoubtedly the Bolshevik leadership that made possible the revolution. It was the excellent
combination of Trotsky s rhetoric, rallying and inspiring personality, Lenin s astute ability to judge
the political mien and the whole party s force and power within the country that led to superb tactics
that would eventually make possible the October Revolution.
Most modern historians agree that the peasants, workers and soldiers played a major part in the
revolution and therefore it was the job of the Bolsheviks to capture this power and manipulate and
use it for their own ends. This was made much easier as a result of Trotsky s excellent rhetoric and
Victor Serge, in Memoirs of a Revolutionary (1945), recalled that Trotsky was all tension and
energy [...] an orator of unique quality [whose voice] always infused with a truly spontaneous
passion. He outshone Lenin through his great oratorical talent, through his organising ability, first
with the army, then on the railways, and by his brilliant gifts as a theoretician. Naturally, as a
Bolshevik it was easier for Serge to agree with Trotsky and therefore, find his words inspiring and
interesting. However, to make special note of his rhetoric suggests an unusually good quality to his
work and this is further demonstrated by the number of people he managed to rally around his
cause. Wood writes

Why Electoral Vote Is Better Than Popular Vote
I will reflect on my persuasive speech regarding why the electoral vote is better than the popular
vote. The beginning of the speech build a case for why anyone would want to switch to the
popular vote in the first place, and the second part explained why the electoral vote is still better.
Some of the advantages of the popular vote included that not every vote is considered equal, swing
states, and that people are more informed through the media today than in the past. Despite these
benefits, the electoral college supports federalism, which assists with the dispersion of power, and
gives midwestern states a voice in the election. Additionally, any recount due to fraud or
negligence would be on a statewide level opposed to a federal level. One possible problem
regarding organization was that I had too many sub points, and that caused me to go over the time
limit. My speech might have been more memorable if I had chosen two points for each side and

The Language Of Vocabulary Instruction
This study examined the influence of the language of vocabulary instruction in English compared
to instruction in both English and Spanish in Spanish speaking pre schoolers. This article questions
whether or not dual language learners (DDLs) in pre school will acquire superior gains in English
and Spanish receptive vocabulary after receiving a culturally and linguistically responsive (CLR)
instructional modality in both English and Spanish, compared to an English culturally responsive
(ECR) modality. The study also examines whether English and Spanish receptive vocabulary gains
will remain 3 weeks post treatment of the CLR instructional modality in comparison to the ECR
modality (Mendez, Crais, Castro, Kainz, 2015).
Forty two preschoolers whom had a primary language of Spanish and secondary language of
English were recruited for this study. The participants included sixteen boys and twenty six girls,
with a mean age of 5.14 months. All participants spoke minimal English and were enrolled in an
English only classroom. The children were placed randomly in either the CLR group or the
comparison group, ECR. Both groups used the same vocabulary instructional approach, with only
the language of vocabulary instruction being different (Mendez et al., 2015).Receptive vocabulary
was examined in this study because comprehension normally precedes production, and children

Boeing Based On My Real World Job With The Federal...
For this assignment, my decision to write about Boeing is based on my real world job with the
Federal Aviation Administration and the fact that I process pounds of mail from them on a weekly
basis.
Company History
The story of Boeing started in a Seattle, WA shipyard in March 1910, but the company didn t get its
official start until July 1916. Throughout Boeing s history, it has been closely associated with
military aviation, through its early foray into air mail delivery eventually gave birth to United
Airlines in 1934 (A Century in the Sky, 2015). Boeing aircraft and support of allied forces during
World War II was a key asset in bringing the war to a close and kept the skies in the Korean War

Finally in 2009, the 787, designed to be the most efficient aircraft ever, made its maiden flight
(Commercial Airplanes, 2015).
Competitors
Speaking strictly about the commercial airliner market, Boeing s only competitor is Airbus. Setting
the stage for the duopoly that was created, Rockwell International sold North American Aviation
and Rocketdyne to Boeing in 1996 and McDonnell Douglas was wholly absorbed in 1997 (The
Boeing Company History, 2000). Across the Atlantic, three of the four founding companies that
comprised the Airbus consortium (created in 1969) merged together to form the European
Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS). In 2014, EADS was renamed as the Airbus
Group, with Airbus (its airline production arm) as a division of the group (Weiss).
Innovation and Performance Boeing maintains its competitive advantage and market share through
trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets obtained through steady research and
development. Even though the protection of intellectual property is important to Boeing, it
routinely contacts and licenses out the rights to various properties within its catalog (Jewell, 2014).
Its newest aircraft project, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has more than 1,000 new patents that have
the potential to have major impacts on how Boeing builds and designs new aircraft in the years to
come. In 2010, Boeing was ranked

Preterm Birth In The United States
Preterm birth refers when a baby is born before or within 37weeks, meaning anytime between 20
to 37 weeks. Each week marks a development stage, it is significantly important for a baby to
reach the maximum weeks necessary for a high percentage of survival and well being. Per
Makena (hydroxyprogesterone caproate injection used to lower the risk of preterm birth), a baby
born at 25 weeks has a better rate of survival than the 22 or 23 weeks old. In U.S.A the ratio is 1:10
born prematurely, meaning 400,000 babies born too soon.
Per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention having a preterm baby varies with racial and
ethnicity, African Americans 13.5%, Native Americans 10.4%, Hispanics 9.3%, whites 9.15,
Asians 8.7%. Infant born prematurely

High-Stakes Testing In Schools
In Chapter 4, Assessing Students and Texts, the topics associated with assessments were covered.
The text discussed two major assessment approaches: formal and informal. The chapter also
focused on policy influence, implementation strategies, and the history of assessment. Other areas
in the reading mentioned the process of how to determine readability of texts and how complexity
is influenced.
Before even starting the chapter, the title lead me to recall assessments and how they have
impacted my life. Tests have been a part of my education since I can remember, but to be more

Nucor Corporation s Making Nuclear Instruments
Nucor Corporation got its start in the 1950 s making nuclear instruments as well as electronic
products. It struggled for many years and by 1964 was facing bankruptcy. Around the mid 1960 s
it was decided that it was best for the company to exit its current market and focus on its profitable

backward into steelmaking. In 2012, Nucor was the largest manufacturer of steel and steel products

steel mills use recycled scrap metal to make steel products. 1.1 tons of scrap and scrap

America, it is imperative that it gains better control over its costs of raw materials (Attachment

drive scrap prices. Scrap and scrap substitute price averages increased by 57.6% from 2007 to

maintaining the company s profitability. The company uses continuous innovation practices as well
as technological advancements in its production processes as ways to offset the costs of the volatile
market prices while attempting to maintain its low costs (Attachment C.) Another challenge for
Nucor is competition from foreign suppliers. The competition in the U.S steel market is highly
competitive with pressure from many domestic as well as foreign firms (Attachment B.) However,

Tony Blair, a former prime minister of the United Kingdom, once said, Those who wish to cause
religious conflict are small in number but often manage to dominate the headline. What he is
trying to say is that there are not many people who want to cause a religious conflict; however,
those are the people that usually affect other people. The company Abercrombie and Fitch has
been caught discriminating people who are different from the majority of people. In June of
2015, a girl named Samantha Elauf was discriminated against for wearing a hijab, also known as

George Eastman was born July 12, 1854 in Waterville, New York. A few years after finishing he

perfect for the amateur photographers. Things changed dramatically in 1888 when George
Eastman introduced the Kodak camera. A small hand held box, it cost only $25 about the price
of a higher end iPad in today s money, which put it in the range of the well off middle class. And
it offered simplicity: It arrived with 100 shots preinstalled, and when they were taken you shipped

Summary Of The Prayer Book Of Anne De Bretagne
The prayer book of Anne de Bretagne, painted by the artist Jean Poyer, though containing only
thirty one folios, presents a wealth of material to study and interpret. It is just one of many
examples of religious manuscripts commissioned by Anne that were extremely personalised, and
noting each personalisation provides insight, not only into Jean Poyer s artistic methods, but also
into the character of Anne de Bretagne. Its composition affords an example of the shift in
perspective of the purpose of images, particularly within the context of the end of the 15th century.
It also perfectly displays the logical move in interest from text to image that followed this

The hazy landscape in the image depicting the martyrdom of St. Ursula (Fol. 17v), for example,
displays an attention to detail and accuracy through its aerial perspective, enforced by colours,
particularly blue, all of which are of a lush hue, significantly improving the images believability
through its distribution, accommodating the perspective by increasing the perception of depth. The
landscape in the background adds layers of dimension to the profundity of the field of view in
which the scene takes place, and this is due to the use of lighter colours towards the front,
particularly on the martyrs and their persecutors, and darker hues that only become darker in the
background, striking a contrast between the main figures and their surroundings. The miniature of
St. Nicholas (Fol. 14v.) is just one example of the use of linear perspective in this prayer book. The
tiles upon which St. Nicholas stands provide lines with which the direction of the vanishing point is
indicated. The interior of the building contains what looks like a column, and this, coupled with the
strong vertical of the building itself, further emphasises the rectilinearity of the whole composition.

Tax Depreciation Myths
DEBUNKING TAX DEPRECIATION MYTHS
There is a lot of ambiguity surrounding laws regarding tax depreciation deductions. Many people
fail to claim their full returns due to simple misunderstandings regarding these laws. Depreciation
is the key to augmenting cash flow on a residential or commercial property. We will take a look at
some of the prevailing myths and debunk them.
Myth #1 You can only depreciate new properties
An investment property does not necessarily have to be brand new in order to attract depreciation
deductions. If you have an older property that was built around 1985 (when the building allowance
came into place) you can still claim depreciation value. It is worth pursuing and enquiring to see
what might be available for you.
Myth #2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Works of plumbing, waterproofing, and electrical wiring can also be estimated and the cost can
be claimed, provided the work was completed after the 18th of July 1985 for residential properties
and July 1982 for commercial properties.
Myth #4 Deductions are only available at the time you make the change
According to ATO rulings, from the completed date of construction, any building eligible to
claim capital works deductions has a maximum effective life of 40 years. Investors, can, therefore,
claim up to 40 years of property depreciation on a new building. Older properties which still has a
balance of some years from the 40 years period can also be claimed.
Myth #5 The only items that depreciate are Plant and Equipment
In addition to the Plant and Equipment, capital work deductions (known as Division 43 or building
write off) is also claimable. It comprises of the structural element of a building and is based on
historical constructions and includes construction materials.

Analysis Of The Book Uncompromisingly Hard Line By Tim...
Golitsyn was also highly damaging to Angleton in another way, and one which goes much further
than the Nosenko ordeal in justifying his paranoia. Angleton is noted for, even previous to
meeting Golitsyn, holding the belief that the Soviet Union had a master plan to deceive the entire
West, having a fundamental misunderstanding as to the Soviet s limits and believing them far
more capable of espionage than they were, not helped by the previously stated defections of
Fuchs and, in particular the personal betrayal of Philby. While this was always a part of his
underlying paranoia, it was kicked into full gear by his affiliation with Golitsyn. Golitsyn,

Cline stated how Angleton began like this (healthily paranoid) but then overdid it... In the end, he
was so obsessive that he became less effective, and ultimately did damage to the agency. It seems
then there may have been two levels of Angleton s paranoia, with the first justifiable, but the
second, after his connection with Golitsyn, more difficult to justify. Even so, Angleton s world
view, and view of the Soviet Union, goes some way to undermining the justification for his
paranoia, but the fact that he was misled by what he thought was a factual account of life within
the Soviet Union could be seen as evidence that he was justified somewhat in his increasing
paranoia, despite the catastrophic manifestations of that paranoia in the case of Nosenko. One of
the biggest justifications for Angleton s paranoia, even arguably in his later years when Golitsyn
and Nosenko sealed the end of his CIA career, comes from events that took place after his
resignation and the airing of the Family Jewels before Congress, one of Angleton s most high
profile public appearances. In February 1994, a CIA agent by the name of

Court essentially decided to treat corporations like individuals by allowing corporations to spend

Furthermore, these laws are particularly important because they deal with discussion of public
issues and debate on the qualifications of candidates. This sort of speech allows citizens to make
an informed decision about which candidate they will elect. This is crucial to the operation of the
government, for those who are elected will shape the nation in a profound way. As legal scholar
Alexander Meiklejohn argued when explaining the necessity of protecting political speech, self
governance can only exist insofar as the voters acquire the intelligence, integrity, sensitivity, and
generous devotion to the general welfare that, in theory, casting a ballot is assumed to express. For
these reasons, the ability to spend money on elections is essential to the First Amendment, as it
allows for the communication of ideas and opinions that are crucial to democracy. The need to
protect this first amendment right, however, is balanced against the need to avoid corruption in
federal elections. The Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 (FECA) attempted to revamp the
structure of campaign finance, particularly dealing with eliminate corrupt uses of campaign
contributions. Money in the form of a contribution can easily be seen as a bribe, or an attempt to
influence a candidate in the contributor s favor. FECA required

individuals are building a house for themselves they don t build homogenous houses but the house
that are built are built to the individual family s need because the dwellers of that particular house

Improving Quality And Standards Of Health Services
A recent study, by Baur, Fehr, Mayer, Pawlu Schaudel (2011) concluded that the growing demand in
health sector, resulted in rapid change in patients expectations. As a result, meeting patients
expectations, while maintaining standards and quality of healthcare service has been the crucial
part in health sector. However, maintaining the service standards does not only refer to increasing
the number of health professionals. Providing optimal care service to the patient, also contributes
hugely in improving quality and standards of health service. Taking this thing in consideration, in
1994, continuing medical education (CME) programme was launched and it gradually broadened to

Flat Shot Essay
Groundstrokes can be hit with topspin or flat.
Topspin is when the racket brushes over the top of the ball causing it to spin. This type of stroke
is more accurate but it makes the ball bounce when it hits the surface which gives the opponent
more time to think before deciding on his own shot. The flat shot however, which is harder to
control goes flatter across the net and the court and has hardly any bounce making it harder for the
opponent to return accurately but it is also a riskier shot.
Sliced forehand and backhand.
This is the opposite of a topspin shot. The ball is hit underneath causing it to have a backspin
effect as it lands on the court and making it a tricky shot to return. It is a great shot to use to
change the pace of the game and to catch an opponent out by giving them a shot that s hard to reach
and has a swerving effect at the end.

player has two opportunities per point to place the ball in the correct area across the net or the

passage of time throughout human existence. Ancient civilizations like: China, India, Babylon, and

seasons, months, and years. We know little about the details of timekeeping in prehistoric eras.
However, records and artifacts usually uncover that in every culture, people were preoccupied with

Luckily, our neighbors to the East, the Arabs, found the documents to be of great interest and kept
old Greek astrological records. In the Renisannce period of Christianity the church officials decided
to re examine the ancient records, and actually found some validity in some of the scientific data.
Amazingly enough the Christian church decided to implement data from ancient pagan cultures to
help create the most widely used calendar to date, the Gregorian calendar.
Ancient Greek astronomers made some amazing mathematical and philosophical discovers about
our universe. From the Hellenistic Greek observations in approximately 300 B.C.E., to the
invention of the first telescope in the seventeenth century, to the launching of today s space probes,
one thing is evident: astrological observations are imperative to creating a calendar.
Currently, the concept of a year is based on the earth s motion around the sun. The time from one
fixed point, such as a solstice or equinox, to the next is called a tropical year; its length is
currently 365.242. Our concept of a month is based on the moon s motion around the earth,
although this connection has been broken in the calendar commonly used now, the Gregorian
calendar. The time for the moon to complete a full cycle of phases is called a synodic month, and
its length is currently 29.53 days. Note that these numbers are averages. The actual length of a

of making machines do things that would require intelligence if done by men .(qtd in Copeland
1). Artificial Intelligence has a lot of applications and is used in many areas. We often don t
notice it but AI is all around us. It is present in computer games, in the cruise control in our cars

In fact, its simplicity is one of the things that have made the Turing Test resist time and history.
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The Turing Test has had a rich history since its creation by Alan
Turing. But first of all, who was Alan Turing? As Whitby notes Alan Turing was a superb British
mathematician. During World War II Turing worked in secrecy for the British military to break the
German military codes together with some other scientists using some machines that had some
characteristics of the modern computers.(12) After the War, a machine was built in Manchester
from which all modern computers are descended .(12) In 1948, Alan Turing was writing programs
for this machine and was also writing the paper Computing machinery and intelligence , published
in 1950, from which the concept of the Turing Test was derived later on. (Whitby 13). An
important part of the test history are the occasions of computers being tested and whether or not
they passed the test. In the years following its creation and until our days, many computers have
taken the test. Turing made himself the prediction stated below: I believe that in about fifty years
time it will be possible to programme computers, with a storage capacity of about 109, to make
them play the imitation game so well that an average interrogator will not have more than 70 per
cent chance of making the right identification after five minutes of questioning.

Essay on Analysis of Tender Option Bonds
TOBs are synthetically created short term tax exempt instruments. A TOB sponsor will buy a
portfolio of fixed rate, long term municipal bonds with ratings between AA AAA and combine them
with an interest rate swap to create short term tax exempt floating rate bonds.
The tax exempt status creates a high level of demand particularly from investors who seek tax
exempt cash flow as a source of annual income and revenue. The buyers of TOBs are for the most
part money market mutual funds. Money market mutual funds are guided by certain regulations as
to what type of bonds they can have in their portfolio. Specifically, the underlying municipal bonds
must be rated at least AA . The maximum maturity of the municipal bonds is thirteen months and...

This is achieved by the investor bearing the default risk of the issuer on the underlying municipal
bond. Specifically, if the issuer of the underlying municipal bond defaults, the investor loses the
right to put the bonds to the liquidity bank and the liquidity facility is automatically reduced by the
amount of the bonds in default.
Interest Rate Swap
As indicated above, the sponsor (MLCS in Merrill s case) creates a TOB through the combination
of a long term municipal bond and an interest rate swap. The swap functions as a hedge to protect
the sponsor against the possibility of short term tax exempt rates increasing relative to the fixed
coupons on the underlying municipal bonds.
The sponsor enters into a swap where it pays a fixed rate which is below the coupon of the
underlying municipal bond (generally 100+bps under) and it receives a floating short term rate. The
sponsor pays out the floating short term rate from the swap to the TOB investors (plus an
additional amount in the range of 10bps). Out of the spread on the transaction (the difference
between the fixed rate on the municipal bond and the fixed rate on the swap, i.e.; the 100+bps
noted above) the sponsor pays the fees to the liquidity bank and the trustee. The balance after these
expenses is paid out to the RITES holders (historically about

The media distributed extreme propagandist slogans such as Better Dead than Red! This type of

Analysis Of The Book French Photography 1800-1960
The Barnes Foundation s newest exhibition, French Photography 1800 1960, is a collection of
photographs that encapsulates life in France during the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibit
features photographs by artists including Ilse Bing, Brassai, and Henri Cartier Bresson. Entering
into the exhibit is like taking a trip through time; depending on if you turn left or right at the
entrance to the exhibit, you can travel forward through time from the early to the mid 1900s or you
can travel backwards. The exhibit is organized by eight different periods and the attitudes that were
most prevalent during them. The categories are: Parisand Environs, Street Life, Commerce, Labor,
Leisure, Reportage, Celebrity, and Art for Art s Sake. The exhibit is an enlightening trip through
time, highlighting the glamorable life in France in the 19th and 20th centuries, bringing to life
artistic movements, culminating in the final intersection of cubism and photography, Brassai s
piece Transmutation: Girl Dreaming being perhaps the brightest star in the collection. Unlike other

Increasing the Gas Tax Would Cause an Improvement in the Environment
Many people all over the world are concerned about pollution. Gasoline use in automobiles is one
of the major causes of pollution. When gasoline is used it releases carbon dioxide, methane and
nitrogen oxide. These are gasses that contribute to the Greenhouse Effect. The Greenhouse Effect
refers to the trapping of the sun s radiation and is also used synonymously with Global Warming

Instead, some train systems use electricity, which doesn t release the harmful gasses that pollute
our environment. The more people that use these public transportation systems, the less people that
will drive themselves to work and therefore less gasoline is used. Also, the tax money could fund
research to come up with better alternatives to the gasoline and vehicles that are used at this time.
There are new technologies in automotives out there now. For example, there is the electric car.
The only problem with this is that the car needs to be plugged in and can only run for four to six
hours at a time, making it hard for long distance travel. Another example is a vehicle that uses a
combination of a gasoline and electric engines. They call it a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).
This particular vehicle used no gas while idling and the gasoline engine turns off while the
vehicle is stopped. As a result, this vehicle uses less gasoline and the tank lasts longer. The
electric motor boosts acceleration so not as much gasoline is used. The HEV has a regenerative
braking system that recharges the battery. This vehicle emits half of what an ultra low emission
vehicle does, so is much better for the environment. It is already possible that by the year 2003
this type of vehicle will cost less because of various state and national tax incentive plans to lower
the cost significantly. This has already been accepted in Maryland

The Classical Period Of Greek Art
The beautiful Three Sided Relief , also known as the Boston Throne , is a treasure
of the Museum of Fine Arts, as it is an original relief from the Early Classical Period of Greek
art. Though it was found in Rome, it is not a Roman copy of the relief, which makes it
incredibly unique. The Three Sided Relief was found in a private villa on via Boncampagni.
The intriguing part of this discovery was that the Three Sided Relief was found in the same
region as the Ludovisi Relief, a relief of a similar proportion, subject matter, and creation
date. The artwork, though found in Rome, is very easily identified as Greek due to the
material used (marble) and also the distinctly Greek style of the relief, containing
reference to both Ionic Greek agriculture and Attic grave reliefs. Greeks used their art
much more religiously than the Romans, who used it more for political propaganda
purposes. Artwork to the Greeks was used to honor their gods and decorate the temples
they erected to celebrate their gods.
The main face of the Three Sided Relief depicts a winged boy in the nude standing in
the center of the relief, and holding up a large balance. There are three large holes cut into
the relief, one in each wing of the boy and another in his chest. These holes were made to
receive the ends of tenons, proving that the now lost beam was made of marble, not bronze.
The two pans of the balance are still attached to the relief, as they are anchored to the

Music Education Philosophy
As a music teacher, I believe that all students should be given the chance to explore and discover
their natural potential as musicians; increasing these capacities through formal music instruction. In
my opinion, the goal of music education is to form an appreciation of the music of others and also
encourage children to shape their own unique musical identity through academic study and
performance. Creating independent musicians should be a guiding purpose of musiceducation.
Music education at the elementary level can lay the foundation for music literacy with activities in
singing, instrument playing, note reading, improvisation, composition, music listening, music
history, and movement and dance. Impressing upon children musical information that they can later
draw upon when they study notation is necessary before music literacy and note reading can take

The author makes this distinctions to show the major difference between the male and female
within a marriage during this time period. She illustrates the female as a childish, immature
human being, and the male as a dominant force who has complete control over his wife. The
female is seen as a child and holds a weak role within their marriage by having no say in their
marriage or even her own life. The husband, being the dominant one, makes every and all of the
decisions. Stated in an article about oppressiveness of marriage, To Ruskin, women were innately
different from men. Their particular nurturing capacities and sensitivities were better suited to the
domestic and private world of the family (Richardson). While the husband is not physically
abusive to the wife, he abuses his power over her. He doesn t allow her any freedom at all, and
controls everything she does.
In the short story, The Story of an Hour , the wife feels relief when she hears the news of her
husband s death, her husband s death releases her from oppression. Mr. Mallard had full control

Descriptive Essay On Beach Vacation
My family has been looking forward to our annual beach vacation since last year s trip to
Alabama. Although it has been a long, winding journey for two days, hauling through five states
and having a personal concert in the passenger seat for fourteen hours, it was all worth it by the
time we make it. Beach Boulevard is overflowing with giant houses, palm trees, stores, and
thousands of other activities we are in a position to do. Everyone in the car is so antsy, we roll
our windows down and breathe in the sweet, warm Alabama air. My eyes locked on my phone, I
count down the miles until we arrive at our destination. Ten miles... Five miles... Three miles...
One mile... Two Hundred feet... You have arrived at your destination, Siri informs me. Pulling
into the driveway, not a single soul waits for the car to stop completely. We leap out of the
vehicle, hugging my distant relatives from Louisiana and rapidly begin sprinting down to the
water. My friend, Kambri, and I are flinging sand behind us, with the wind blasting against our
faces. Finally arriving to the ocean, we stand shoulder to shoulder along the shore, taking it all in.
Silently, we listen to the continuous, calming crashes of water, allowing it to splash up our legs,
for the salty breeze to blow through our hair, and the rays of the sunshine on our pale adolescent
bodies. I have never felt more at home than I do right now, in this moment in time.
My extended family promptly begins to unpack the loaded vehicles. Opening the wide truck
tailgates, there is not even room for a fly to buzz around back there. Stuffed to the top, the bed of
the truck was full of over packed clothes, unhealthy sugary snacks, tubs packed to the rim with
bottles of sunscreen, and of course, a plethora of sand toys. Us kids toss the bags at the top of
the winding staircase, quickly scoping out our temporary house for the week. As we make it up
to our room, we do not skip a beat unzipping our suitcases to find the superb fitted, blue bikini for
our first day in paradise. Before any adult has time to summon us back downstairs to help them
finish unloading the cars, we are out the door and headed down to the beach. On our journey down,
we each grab our newly purchased, Aztec

Physician Assisted Death Controversy
Over the past 18 years, the controversy of Physician assisted death (PAD) has swept the world.
Since 1997, four states in the united states have legalized PAD and several countries in Europe
have passed similar laws. PAD is slowly becoming more and more popular among Americans, but
for those people who are still highly opposed to the idea, why? Research has proven that PAD is
not considered abuse because physicians are required to give their patients informed consent. Many
terminally ill patients are requesting PAD and the choice to partake in the new phenomenon is
completely up to the patient, even after the pills are administered. The prerequisites are many and
the majority of people in fact do not qualify. on Lachman says Physicianassisted... Show more

A patient has to judge his or her own quality of life, making the action of assessing if a patient s
quality of life is so low that they should be considered for PAD. Although dogs and humans are
very different creatures, anatomically and spiritually, PAD is the same concept of putting a dog
to sleep. Both beings are loved by others greatly and both experience a low quality of life when
they are ill. But why is it better to put dogs down when they are suffering, but it is not ethical for
it to be done when a human is suffering? 7.6 million companionship animals were put down last
year (2014) (ASPCA). The same idea and process are behind PAD. Physician Assisted Death is
not abused by physicians, despite what many people believe PAD is very uncommon, even in
states where it is legal. Approximately 1 of 1,000 Oregonians obtain and use a lethal dose of
medication; 17% personally considered it as an option. (Lachman). But America is not the only
place where is a controversy. 85% of 218 nurses in Australia carried out the request the physician s
request for active euthanasia (Lachman), and 10,000 citizens of the Netherlands, where PAD is
legal,

The True King Arthur
The True King Arthur
Kings, dragons, and great battles come to mind when you think of the Dark Ages. Another subject
that comes to mind is the great King Arthur. Everyone has heard of the so called King Arthur and
his infamous knights of the round table. The modern versions of King Arthur are just tales and
myths told to kids, but who is the true Arthur? Did he even exist? There are multiple suitors for the
role of King Arthur, but one man sticks out more than the others.
First, I want to talk about the myth and legends of King Arthur. According to Wyly, before Arthur s
birth, Britain was in the midst of a civil that was between numerous noblemen wanting land to gain
power (Wyly 18). Although there were noblemen warring for land and power,... Show more content

Merlin then turned Arthur over to Sir Ector, to raise and love as his own with Ector s other son
Sir Kay (Wyly 20). While Arthur was being raised by Sir Ector, Uther fell deathly ill and died
after a final legendary battle (Wyly 21). Soon after the land went into another power struggle, but
this time it was a little more organized. There was a tournament held for all suitors to come and
present their might and potentially claim the throne (Wyly 21). Fortunately for Arthur his elder
brother, Sir Kay, attended this tournament, but forgot his sword at home (Wyly 22). In a panic
Arthur searched for a sword for his brother, and in this panic Arthur pulled the sword from the
stone, which said the one who pulls the sword from the stove is the true king of England (Wyly 22
23). Upon learning of this event and the origins of the sword, all of the knights kneeled to him
(Wyly 24). That is how Arthur reclaimed the throne and began the legend of King Arthur.
Soon after, Arthur acquired a wife, Queen Guinevere, due to advice from Merlin and his knights
(Knowles 76). As it came to be Guinevere was the daughter of King Leodegrance, who also had
The Round Table (Knowles 76). Upon hearing of Arthur s desire to wed his daughter, King
Leodegrance sent Arthur the round table, one hundred and fifty knights, and his daughter (Knowles

Artifact Argumentative Essay
Argumentative essay Artifacts that are found in a country should stay in that country so it don t
get lost or broken. I think that if the artifact is in the museum then it needs to stay in one place so
the object doesn t get tossed around and gets broken. If the artifact breaks then that is a part of
historythat is gone forever and it will not be here for us to learn about. I feel like if the artifact was
found in a certain country then it needs to be stored in its own countries museums.
In the second story that I ve read called Museums Preserve the Cultures of The World says that
sometimes museums agree that it is appropriate to return these items, but sometimes the other
museums don t return the items back to the right museums that

  • 2. Essay On The Movie Goodfellas For a second I thought I was dead, but when I heard all the noise I knew they were cops. Only cops talked that way. If they had been wiseguys, I wouldn t have heard a thing. I would have been dead ( Goodfellas 00:50:47 59). This is something that Henry Hill said when he is caught by the police. Before this happened, Henry is trying to get some drugs on an airplane. Comparing Forms Of Federalism Per Merriam Webster Comparing Forms of Federalism The legal definition of federalism per Merriam Webster is the distribution of power in a federation between the central authority and the constituent units (as states) involving especially the allocation of significant lawmaking powers to those constituent units (Merriam Webster, 2003). This, in simpler terms, means that it is a form of government in which there is a breaking down of powers between two different levels of government that have equal status. The new federalism was coined cooperative federalism and it will be discussed next. Cooperative Federalism Cooperative federalism was mainly utilized from the 1930 s to the 1970 s. This is another view of federalism where all three governments, national, state, and local, work together to solve problems and issues. Impact Of Romanticism In The Late Victorian Age I was a man who stood in the symbolic relations to the art and culture of my age. 1 The late Victorian age saw a revolution in the sphere of art and literature. John Ruskin, Matthew Arnold, Walter Pater, and Oscar Wilde were among the most influential art and literary critics of the yellow nineties. They baffled the British opinion with their brand new stance on literature, paintings, and sculptures. They turned criticism into a new form of art, which redefined and theorised art as well as literature. Their new theories were utterly modern and absolutely new for the period, which has come to be known as the English Renaissance. INTRO: It was undoubtedly the Bolshevik leadership that made possible the revolution. It was the excellent combination of Trotsky s rhetoric, rallying and inspiring personality, Lenin s astute ability to judge the political mien and the whole party s force and power within the country that led to superb tactics that would eventually make possible the October Revolution. Most modern historians agree that the peasants, workers and soldiers played a major part in the revolution and therefore it was the job of the Bolsheviks to capture this power and manipulate and use it for their own ends. This was made much easier as a result of Trotsky s excellent rhetoric and Victor Serge, in Memoirs of a Revolutionary (1945), recalled that Trotsky was all tension and energy [...] an orator of unique quality [whose voice] always infused with a truly spontaneous passion. He outshone Lenin through his great oratorical talent, through his organising ability, first with the army, then on the railways, and by his brilliant gifts as a theoretician. Naturally, as a Bolshevik it was easier for Serge to agree with Trotsky and therefore, find his words inspiring and interesting. However, to make special note of his rhetoric suggests an unusually good quality to his work and this is further demonstrated by the number of people he managed to rally around his cause. The beginning of the speech build a case for why anyone would want to switch to the popular vote in the first place, and the second part explained why the electoral vote is still better. Some of the advantages of the popular vote included that not every vote is considered equal, swing states, and that people are more informed through the media today than in the past. Despite these benefits, the electoral college supports federalism, which assists with the dispersion of power, and gives midwestern states a voice in the election. Additionally, any recount due to fraud or negligence would be on a statewide level opposed to a federal level. This article questions whether or not dual language learners (DDLs) in pre school will acquire superior gains in English and Spanish receptive vocabulary after receiving a culturally and linguistically responsive (CLR) instructional modality in both English and Spanish, compared to an English culturally responsive (ECR) modality. The landscape in the background adds layers of dimension to the profundity of the field of view in which the scene takes place, and this is due to the use of lighter colours towards the front, particularly on the martyrs and their persecutors, and darker hues that only become darker in the background, striking a contrast between the main figures and their surroundings. Improving Quality And Standards Of Health Services A recent study, by Baur, Fehr, Mayer, Pawlu Schaudel (2011) concluded that the growing demand in health sector, resulted in rapid change in patients expectations. Providing optimal care service to the patient, also contributes hugely in improving quality and standards of health service. • 26. Flat Shot Essay Groundstrokes can be hit with topspin or flat. Topspin is when the racket brushes over the top of the ball causing it to spin. This type of stroke is more accurate but it makes the ball bounce when it hits the surface which gives the opponent more time to think before deciding on his own shot. The flat shot however, which is harder to control goes flatter across the net and the court and has hardly any bounce making it harder for the opponent to return accurately but it is also a riskier shot. Sliced forehand and backhand. This is the opposite of a topspin shot. The ball is hit underneath causing it to have a backspin effect as it lands on the court and making it a tricky shot to return. During World War II Turing worked in secrecy for the British military to break the German military codes together with some other scientists using some machines that had some characteristics of the modern computers.(12) After the War, a machine was built in Manchester from which all modern computers are descended .(12) In 1948, Alan Turing was writing programs for this machine and was also writing the paper Computing machinery and intelligence , published in 1950, from which the concept of the Turing Test was derived later on. (Whitby 13). An important part of the test history are the occasions of computers being tested and whether or not they passed the test. In the years following its creation and until our days, many computers have taken the test. Turing made himself the prediction stated below: I believe that in about fifty years time it will be possible to programme computers, with a storage capacity of about 109, to make them play the imitation game so well that an average interrogator will not have more than 70 per cent chance of making the right identification after five minutes of questioning. ... A TOB sponsor will buy a portfolio of fixed rate, long term municipal bonds with ratings between AA AAA and combine them with an interest rate swap to create short term tax exempt floating rate bonds. The tax exempt status creates a high level of demand particularly from investors who seek tax exempt cash flow as a source of annual income and revenue. This is achieved by the investor bearing the default risk of the issuer on the underlying municipal bond. Specifically, if the issuer of the underlying municipal bond defaults, the investor loses the right to put the bonds to the liquidity bank and the liquidity facility is automatically reduced by the amount of the bonds in default. Interest Rate Swap As indicated above, the sponsor (MLCS in Merrill s case) creates a TOB through the combination of a long term municipal bond and an interest rate swap. The swap functions as a hedge to protect the sponsor against the possibility of short term tax exempt rates increasing relative to the fixed coupons on the underlying municipal bonds. The sponsor enters into a swap where it pays a fixed rate which is below the coupon of the underlying municipal bond (generally 100+bps under) and it receives a floating short term rate. The sponsor pays out the floating short term rate from the swap to the TOB investors (plus an additional amount in the range of 10bps). Out of the spread on the transaction (the difference between the fixed rate on the municipal bond and the fixed rate on the swap, i.e.; the 100+bps noted above) the sponsor pays the fees to the liquidity bank and the trustee. The Classical Period Of Greek Art The beautiful Three Sided Relief , also known as the Boston Throne , is a treasure of the Museum of Fine Arts, as it is an original relief from the Early Classical Period of Greek art. Though it was found in Rome, it is not a Roman copy of the relief, which makes it incredibly unique. The Three Sided Relief was found in a private villa on via Boncampagni. The intriguing part of this discovery was that the Three Sided Relief was found in the same region as the Ludovisi Relief, a relief of a similar proportion, subject matter, and creation date. The artwork, though found in Rome, is very easily identified as Greek due to the material used (marble) and also the distinctly Greek style of the relief, containing reference to both Ionic Greek agriculture and Attic grave reliefs. Greeks used their art much more religiously than the Romans, who used it more for political propaganda purposes. Artwork to the Greeks was used to honor their gods and decorate the temples they erected to celebrate their gods.
