The Cultural Experience Of The Biennale Of Sydney
If each era posits its own view of reality, what is ours? Stephanie Rosenthal
Sydney s 20th Biennale is entitled The future is already here it s just not evenly distributed, where it
explores the ideas about technology, virtual reality, science fiction and the ways in which
individuals and communities are living in an increasingly digital and technological world. This
theme was inspired by an American Canadian science fiction writer. The artistic director, Stephanie
Rosenthal investigates the relationship we have with technology and the power it holds to transport
us to another world allowing new concepts and opportunities to arise however it also removes us
from our environment and physical bodies.
The aims of the Biennale of Sydney is to allow inventive and creative experimentation to be
explored and to challenge the norms of predictable artmaking practices. The Biennale advocates a
real cultural experience through combining the many different artworks created by many different
artists instigating a global conversation about art. The Biennale occurs every two years in Sydney
and brings such a cultural experience to the Sydney.
The 20th Biennale of Sydney is presented in seven main venues around Sydney and each location
is known as an embassy , where they display different ideas however are connected. Having the
exhibition spread over these venues is beneficial giving the audience variety in choice and a
different experience depending on the venue. The

Realism Essay
Realism
Realism means accuracy of speech and setting, thorough background detail and a concern for
vermisimitude or realism could mean the willingness to face the facts. Realism is hard to define.
There are different types of realism documentary, social, emotional and dramatic.
Technical codes play an important role in making realism in soaps, this refers to documentary
realism where soaps are supposed to look like they haven t been constructed and camera work
shouldn t be too complicated, it should be like looking in on someone s life through their window.
The editing should be invisible making the soap look like a continuous shot so it doesn t look like

The setting of Eastenders is a mythical 1950 s setting with the street markets and the close
community people knowing everybody else s business. I think that they have made this
representation look very realistic but I also think that people will find it hard to relate to this more
because most London communities are not like this anymore and people would feel uneasy and
unsafe with the idea of keeping their backdoor open all day.
Storylines are another important element in realism; it involves the use of social realism where
soaps use social issues (eg. Teenage pregnancy; In Coronation Street Sarah Platt deals with the
pressures of becoming pregnant at the age of 13. Another example of a social issue is family
feuds, which is shown constantly in Eastenders within the Slater family.) that effect the working
class. This is good because the audience will then feel that they can relate to at least one social
issue and involves them more with the soap. Emotional realism is also used, people become
attached, they are watching something that is emotionally true to life but what they see isn t real
on a denotative level. An example of this is in Coronation Street, when Karen was experiencing a
miscarriage and having to cope with the grief afterwards. Another example is in Eastenders, when
Little Mo was experiencing constant domestic violence from

Modern Chin The Republic Of China
Modern China seems to us as a monolithic state. We simplify the different peoples and languages
to one. The reality is more complicated though several provinces have semi autonomous status and
cities like Hong Kong and Macao have freedoms the rest of China does not. Recently Taiwan
elected a pro independence party. Even though Taiwan is not part of the people s republic of Chinait
has always maintained that it intended to be part of a democracy China. That is now put in doubt
add to this some provinces wish to leave China and form their own countries. China is hardly
breaking apart but it might help us to look at a different China than today s. After the fall of the
mighty Han dynastyChina entered an era of disunification. This time... Show more content on

The time frame is also easy to mark start and end with the rise and fall of the dynasty. Yet in the
time following the Han and until the Sui there were only one dynasty that ruled all of China the Jin
and it lasted only till the death of its ruler. This has lead to the time period being given different
names and boundaries. Some of the names used are the Northern and Southern Dynasties and the
Six Kingdom period. The former refers to the fact that this period saw China broken into a clear
north and south division while the latter refers to the fact that this time period saw Six Dynasties
controlling the southern part of the country. Others will divide the time period into three separate
eras, these being the Three State or Kingdom Period, the Western Jin, and the Northern and
Southern Dynasties. The first refers to the three kingdoms that formed after the fall of the Han also
called the three kingdom period. The western Jin was the name of the brief uniting dynasty the
eastern Jin lasted longer in the south but China was no longer unified. This Northern and Southern
Dynasties refers strictly to time after the fall of the Jin until the rise of the Sui. I will use the term
northern and southern dynasties for the larger time period as I feel it would be improper for us to
use the term Six Kingdom Period to refer to the north which ultimately reunified China. The
physical boundaries of China changed rapidly during the northern and southern

An Exhibit Of The National Air And Space Museum
In 1993, a plan to build an exhibit of the Enola Gay in the National Air and Space Museum
received immense amounts of criticism from military historians, journalists, and veterans, as they
felt that it didn t correctly portray the Japanese and those in the American armed forces during the
war. The book s authors offer theories ranging from historical context, how Japan s role in the war
was interpreted, the American people s discomfort regarding Truman s order to drop the bomb, the
mood of Americans during Vietnam, and the American lives spared as a result of the bomb.
Edward Linenthal s Anatomy of a Controversy conveys that Martin Harwit, the director of the
National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, wanted to transform the day of
August 6. The anniversary of Hiroshima had previously been a day of protest and recrimination,
and Harwit s goal in mind was to turn the anniversary into one of reflection. If the exhibit was
perceived in the wrong way, Harwit feared it could be interpreted as celebration (Linenthal, 19).
Veterans who were aboard the B 29 airplane were the first to direct their criticism over the exhibit,
arguing that the exhibit would not be displayed correctly. It was an insult to every soldier, sailor
marine and airman by not clearly describing that Japan had actually caused the United States
intervention in the war (Linenthal, 20). Following the first draft, a few historians felt as though the
proposed draft did not adequately do

Pune, India rajesh.shekokar@sinhgad.edu Abstract Road accidents cause a severe threat to human
lives from both an injury as well as a financial perspective. Given that vehicles are designed to
provide a smooth means of transportation, manufacturers have long been in the process of
designing the vehicles that are based on principles of efficiency, reliability and safety. However, due
to reasons such as human error, circumstantial error, poor vision and negligence, accidents occur.
Today, special attention is focused on the technologies that can reduce traffic collisions. Hence,
Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) technology is proposed which are simple to implement. The main
objective of this paper is to alert the driver when he closes to the front vehicle by using camera and
ultrasonic sensor and to communicate mutually for information exchange by using Xbee.

Nicolo Paganini Research Paper
This Weekend I attended a youth conference at the beach. As a dog follows a bone so do
teenagers follow the music, we listened to a song called Paganini by Andy Mineo. I turned to
the person beside me and asked, what s a Paganini and even though we were all dancing to the
music none of us had a clue who or what Paganini was or is. In the end we googled him to find
out that he was, in reality, a musician and a composer from the classical and Romantic era.
Nicolo Paganini was born in Genoa, Italy on October twenty seventh, seventeen eighty two. He was
born into a family of six children, his parents were Antonio and Teresa Paganini. Although growing
up with little money to spare he still managed to obtain violin lessons from the best of the time;
Ferdinando Paer, Giovanni Servetto, Giacomo Costa, Alessandro Rolla, and Gasparo Ghirettito.
His talent was so evident that legend has it that his mother sold his soul to the devil for his
ability to play music. Guitarramagazine.com, a website, explained his appearance as this, He was
tall and thin, had a long nose, a pale and long drawn face with hollow cheeks, thin lips that seemed
to curl into a sardonic smile, and piercing eyes like flaming coals. ...dressed in black. ... Show more

Even though he was a little reckless he still works hard and composed great works such as: twenty
four Caprices, Serenata, La Tempesta, Entrata d Adone nella reggia di Venereand, Le Streghe and
others. It is said that even when Paganini broke a string, on his violin, he continued playing on the
three remaining. The story demonstrates the strength of his ability to endure even when others
would have stopped. His techniqueHis violin technique showed his wide range of harmonics and

Listeria Monocytogenes
Description
Listeria monocytogenes is a gram positive motile facultative anaerobe that inhabits a variety of
environments. Using selective media it can be readily isolated from soil, water, vegetation and
processed products, including ready to eat products designated for human consumption (Graves et
al., 1992). The bacterium was named monocytogenes because one distinguish characteristic of
infection in rabbits, which was the production of monocytosis in blood (Shuin et al., 1982).
L. monocytogenes is phychrophilic, has a temperature for growth of 0В°C to 45В°C (Barbosa et
al., 1994), and enjoys a competitive advantage against other gram positive and gram negative
microorganisms in cold environments, such as refrigerators. Recent ... Show more content on

monocytogenes. Pasteurization effectively inactivates this organism. However, fluid milk that is
contaminated after pasteurization and stored under refrigeration may achieve very high populations
of L. monocytogenes after one week; Furthermore, temperature abuse may enhance the
multiplication of bacterial cells. L. monocytogenes can also be found in cheese because of its
relative hardiness to temperature fluctuations, ability to multiply at refrigeration temperature and
salt tolerance. During manufacturing process, L. monocytogenes is primarily concentrate in the
cheese curd, with only a very small portion of cells appearing in the whey. Then, during ripening
of the cheese, the numbers of cells may increase (Camembert), decrease gradually (Colby or
cheddar), or decrease rapidly (blue cheese) and then stabilize. In addition, cooked and ready to eat
meat and poultry products have been implicated as the source of sporadic and epidemic listeriosis
on several occasions in North America and Europe (Schwartz et al., 1989). L. monocytogenes
attaches strongly to the surface of raw meats and is difficult to remove or inactivate. The
multiplication in meat and poultry depends on the type of meat, pH, and the type of cell
populations of competitive flora (Farber et al., 1999). However, it has been shown that poultry
supports the growth of L. monocytogenes better than other meats. Furthermore, the incidence of L.
monocytogenes in ready to eat products has become

Essay On Globalization And Trade Opportunities
Topic: Globalization and Trade opportunities
General Purpose: To Inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the opportunities brought by globalization when
trade is concerned.
Thesis: Globalization trade opportunities as the world has become closer and tied in client demand
and supply structures.
Introduction:
Distinguished Guests, Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen: As salamu alaykum. It is an honor
and a privilege to join you at this meeting, and to reflect with you on trade opportunities between
our two companies. With trade flows between our countries growing at an unprecedented rate,
the timing of your visit could not be better. Indeed, for many years, people have been buying and
selling to one another from all corners of the world. It is impossible for any country rich or poor
as its economy grows, to stay away from a global market where free trade and free movement of
capital are pivotal to a strong economy. As a matter of fact, trade and investment increase job
opportunities all around the world, and foreign money that comes into our companies may result in
access to wider markets. From trade opportunities to investment, the world has become closer, and
tied in client supply and demand structures. Therefore, it s important to acknowledge how
important this meeting is for our two companies. Today, I will address the three main arguments for
trade opportunities, client supply and demand structures in this globalization era, and how
instrumental they are in a company s growth.
Key points:
First, I will discuss globalization and investment in the context of our venture
Second, I will discuss trade opportunities
Finally, I will discuss client supply and demand structures
I stand before you today as a representative of our company. As you know, globalization has
enabled increased levels of investment. It has made it easier for businesses to attract short term and
long term investment. And as a company specialized in construction materials, our goal is to
expand our distribution network to new countries such as Saudi Arabia the largest economy in the
Middle East. We are looking for a Saudi partner to embark in a joint venture. There are several
agreements ratified by the United States to

the name of this brilliant researcher and his life s work had nearly been deleted from the

Heading the programs of birth control lavish by the developed countries which according to the
Africans are only excuses to be able to control Africa, because the ratio population/ area is very
low in Africa by contrast to the ratio in certain European countries where those programs are not

goals to reduce the fertility of the population in age to procreate. Considering that the population
of certain African countries are used as guinea pigs in research trials in biology and in medicine.

women by a vaccine and development of bacteria to make these populations ill)

Music And Its Impact On Development Of Musical...
INTRODUCTION This essay will be looking at Indie music and discussing its impact with
regard to the development of musical performances and production. The word Indie is a term
derived from the word Independent. Originally, independent music referred to bands or artists
who performed and/or produced music autonomously and without the commercial rules and
restrictions associated with major record labels (Hale, 2014). As a result, this offered artists
more freedom of expression and a wider scope to push the musical boundaries. Throughout the
years the term Indie has evolved into a broader meaning that is harder to define. Today Indie is
recognised as a genre of music and is often used as a prefix to another genre such as Indie Pop
and Indie Folk. So what is Indie music? And how did Indie evolve to become a genre? BRIEF
HISTORY OF EARLY INDEPENDENT RECORD LABELS Independent record labels have
been around since music started being recorded (King, 2012, p.13). Created by fanatics with a
passion for music, the recording and production process was often self funded and the purpose
was to nurture talent and creativity. Most of the major record companies we know today would
have once started in this manner (King, 2012). As far back as 1917 independent record labels
were recording early Blues and Jazz music. In 1920 following the end of World War 1 (WW1),
Brunswick became known as the biggest independent label in the USA. Due to financial problems,
Brunswick went

Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Essay
Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, by Walt Whitman, is a poem about a man who takes the Brooklyn
ferry home after his work day. At first glance one may say How can this long poem really be
about a ferry? Once you get reading you realized there is much more to it then riding the
Brooklyn Ferry. This poem deals with the idea that all humans are united in the harmonies of life
because we all share the same land. This poem describes the relationship between human beings.
The poem is describing how he believes that people see the same things he does and feels the same
things he does while on the Ferry. Since they do experience the same things, this makes them come
together because they must react in the same ways. He is implying that the ferry is connecting
humanity because they all witness the same things while riding it. Throughout the poem the
speaker shifts who he is addressing. It goes from the crowd, to the second person, to then
addressing the commuters on the ferry, and then to everyone who has every rode the ferry, and then
to everyone that has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Security Dilemm Spiral Model
Security Dilemma (spiral model)
What is a security dilemma ? Does it cause wars? Is the security dilemma confined to international
politics?
Introduction
National security is arguably the primary objective of political leaders and yet conflict and war
seems an inevitable aspect of international politics and thus a dominant theme in IR scholarship.
The security dilemma or so called spiral model is frequently used to explain the escalation of
conflict and onset of war in international politics, particularly paralleling the sequence of events
that prompted World War I and the super power arms race during the Cold War
. The question
remains, however, as a theoretical model, does the security dilemma trigger war? Perhaps a more
salient question given the rise in ethnic conflicts and security threats from non state actors since the
Cold War is can the security dilemma literature provide policy relevant guidance of how to deal
with these sub state threats to regional and perhaps international stability?
This response proceeds as follows: First, I define the term security dilemma as well as contextualize
its development within the IR scholarship. Second, I argue, the security dilemma concept coupled
with neorealist theoretical assumptions may indeed perpetuate a hostile international environment,
creating a self fulfilling prophecy effect. Instead, I suggest, the constructivist framework offers
much needed intersubjective understandings and ideational alternatives

she was lively talented singer at first, but then caged in a closed environment (depiction of
marriage and housekeeping) and then killed (depiction of her social life outside the house). The
quilt, although at the start was so nice and even , has become all over the place by the end of it

Diversity Is The Equal Coexistence Of Diverse Cultures,...
Introduction In America, past and present, we are faced with many challenges pertaining to
diversity. Diversity is defined as the presence of human beings with perceived or actual differences
based on a variety of human characteristics (Koppelman 2014). A challenge of diversity faced is on
American Education. Education is most important because our future society depends on it and if
we did not have it our future would most certainly fail. Learning and schooling is critical for
everyone to gain knowledge and continue leading our diverse society forward into the right
direction. Since diversity is a common issue relating to students who have gone through these
situations there have been many intense debates and legal cases (Dey 2008). Education in America
needs to have more pluralism, where all diverse groups can have the same mutual respect. Pluralism
is the equal coexistence of diverse cultures, institutions, and/or individuals within mutually
supportive relationship within the boundaries of one nation (Koppelman 2009). In a pluralistic
society all the groups in the society should be taught about each other s diverse cultures, historical
events, and so on in schoolso it can all be fair. Some parents and teachers felt that there were no
benefits for the students to learn about multicultural education (Koppelman 2009). There are so
many things that can be done to correct the challenge of diversity to American education and so
many reasons why there are challenges in

cost and others based on differentiation. The cost based advantage occurs when firms offer the

attribute only associated with its products. For the two types of competitive advantages, porter
laid out a framework by which a firm can identify and develop its ideal strategy. The five forces

Wonder Wom The Feminist Symbol Behind The Bracelets
Wonder Woman: The Feminist Symbol Behind The Bracelets
Wonder Woman is seen as being American, but in reality she is a Greek demigod. The amazonian
superhero battles formidable Greek deities with an arsenal of weapons that were magically
enhanced by the gods of Olympus. Those weapons include classics such as a sword and shield, and
also includes a lasso a. She possesses superhuman abilities that were blessed to her by the gods and
they included Hermes, Aphrodite, Artemis, Hestia, and Demeter. Her amazonian origin creates
powerful symbolism for women everywhere and she provides women with strength. To truly
understand Wonder Woman you must know of her origin.
Created out of clay by her mother Hippolyta the queen of the Amazons Wonder Woman was given
life from the the gods of ancient Greece. She is arguably immortal due to her home on the island
of Themyscira. Themyscira is where she was born; the island has been separated from the evils of
man for thousands of years. Hippolyta named her daughter Diana, after the Roman goddess of the
moon and hunt. The Amazons original purpose was to protect man s world, but they abandoned
their original purpose and chose to live in seclusion for thousands of years. Diana disagreed with
the Amazon s decision to separate from mankind and believed that the Amazons should integrate
back into man s society, but Hippolyta believed that the Amazons have no place in man s society.
However, all that changed during World War II when a United States

Medical Malpractice
Medical Malpractice
The doctor patient relationship has been defined differently through the years. In the beginning it
developed into a common calling which meant doctors practiced medicine as a duty to their
patients. Laws were developed to protect patients, therefore doctors used proper care and expert
skill. In the past six centuries, medical malpractice has increased, which lead to revision and
addition to the law. Liability was introduced along with the GIANT of all torts , negligence. Now
in today s society, a doctor s duty is to use reasonable care, skill and judgment in the practice of his

In cases like these the doctor is incredibly egotistical and is playing God.
Physicians
who ignore patient requests or fail to ask for consent only build communication barriers and ruin
the profession s reputation. Many people believe doctors are the real victims. They feel doctors
are confined from performing and medical students limit career options in fear of being sued.
There are some illegitimate and ungrateful citizens who insist on filing suits when doctors are
not at fault. When a family member dies, the loss may cause anger and looking for a doctor to
sue seems like the right thing to do. It is human nature to always look for a party at fault in any
tragedy. Doctors fears of malpractice awards also result in bad medical care. New procedures carry
a higher risk of harm and second guessing later, so doctors stick to conventional treatments, even in
terminal cases, for fear the treatment may hasten the patient s death. The opposite is also true, both
overtesting and overtreating are standard methods of beating malpractice suits. Thousands of
unneeded surgeries are performed each year. Expensive technology is regularly misused В– CAT
scans to diagnose simple headaches, for example. Also, the few plaintiff s who win unrealistically
high awards raise insurance costs for all doctors. (Nolo Press editors, # 32) In fact, the Canadian

3.Firewalls
A firewall is an access control security tool used to prevent unwanted access to a network. It is
usually the first line of defense and serves sort of like a gate in which all outside network traffic
and internet connections are verified prior to granting access to a private network, making sure it
meets security policies in place (IU, 2013). With a firewall a provider can establish which traffic is
acceptable and which isn t and the firewall simply executes at command, blocking all unrecognized
access making the network more secure.
Firewalls originated in the late 1980 s getting their name from firefighting and prevention,
signifying keeping a fire out (Rouse, 2014). If an attack on your network occurred it could be
compared to a fire which is where the firewall comes in, keeping negative effects out.
Firewalls are said to now be used as a major defense against cyber attacks.
There are several types of firewalls. The most commonly used are;

together, as a window or even as a way for young children to easily move them around. All the
furniture except for the large tiered seating is easy to move, though some children may need
assistance from an adult, allowing the space to be flexible.
Sense of Community
The seating located around the room allow a place for adults to sit. Some of the seating is low
enough that adults can engage with the children without having to sit on the floor. The large area
ensures that there is enough space for both adults and children to create together. Though the
limited number of loose parts can be seen as a disadvantage, it can also foster a sense of
community when two groups of children must share or trade to get the piece they want.
Constructiveness
The space allows for children to work collaboratively with both other children and adults.
Imagination Playscape is a place where children s knowledge and ideas can be built upon by
interacting with others. One child may have an idea and other child helps them execute it
effectively, or an adult may provide assistance.

Integrity In Research Paper
If integrity is never challenged, it cannot be measured. How many times have we heard people
say, I would never do what she did or I cannot believe he would do such a thing? Life can appear
to be a series of one epic fail or test after another. We have watched the rich and famous fall from
their lofty pedestals while those with integrity are rarely highlighted on the evening news.
Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody s watching. If integrity is the glue that
holds our perception of a good person together, how do we choose to be a person of integrity? Do
we have the innate ability to develop an integrous personality or are we forced to defy nature and

We are hard pressed to find any fault in the life found in the pages of the book of Daniel. His
example of integrity is second to none in the Old Covenant. We do not have the first recordation
of a stumble or fall as with most of our biblical heroes. As we observe the integrity found in the life
of Daniel, we catch him in Chapter 6 headed to the lion s den. The famous Bible story of Daniel
and the lions den is more than a simple account of God s deliverance. It also shows that no one is
a match for the true God. Daniel had been in captivity approximately 66 years serving faithfully
and with distinction in the reign of the Babylonian kings Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar. When
the Medo Persian Empire conquered Babylon, Daniel begins serving King Darius. With Daniel s
background and wisdom, he is quickly promoted by the new king to an elevated position of envy.
Daniel was given the gift of prophecy even though he would not claim the title of prophet. In
addition to being blessed with the ability to interpret dreams, he could also see what God had in
store for the Jewish nation. As the Lord revealed to Daniel his plan for his chosen people, he no
doubt saw glimpses of the holocaust and the multiple attempts to destroy Israel. There is always a
remnant after each catastrophe proving the Abrahamic Covenant withstands the test of time. God is
faithful. In spite of the countless years of slavery, the Israelites have endured hardships and

Problems Associated With Ageing Human Skeletal Muscle
Quadriceps and Hamstring group of muscles play a very important role in everyday activities.
These group of muscles help us to walk, run, jump, squat etc1 Ageing however is an unavoidable
phenomenon. Aging is known to decrease muscular strength. (Grimby and Saltin,1983;Borges
1989) .It is associated with increase in the subcutaneous fat, intramuscular fat and non muscle
tissue.(Rice et al). Ageinghuman skeletal muscle has shown increase in the proportion of type 2
fibers (glycolytic) along with decrease in the contractile ability. On the other hand training has
shown to improve the strength in elderly (Annianson Gustafsson), 1981; Frontera et al 1990;C. L
Rice et al). The muscle weakness and wasting has been evaluated by dynamometer and compound
ultrasound imaging, Nuclear magnetic resonance etc.
One of the most common condition seen due to quadriceps weakness in old age is knee
osteoarthritis. The presence of this condition leads to pain , stiffness and reduction in range of
motion. A study done by Stephanie et al stated that reduction of muscle fiber and muscle size and
increase in fat and connective tissue is seen thus reducing the force generation capacity in old
individuals.

into action of December 7, 1941. The Japanese surprise attack on Pearl harbor was the result of
several factors and led to many casualties as well as the United States entering The second World

The United States relationship with Japan had been slowly crumbling for quite some time before
the attack. The Japanese government declared war on China in an attempt to fix its economic and
demographic dilemma. They decided to take territory in their brother country and control their
imports. Even though the American government had refused to provoke the Japanese, they favored
the Chinese in the Sino Japanese war. America hoped to reach a peaceful

Triump in The Scarlett Letter by Nathiel Hawthorne
The triumph of an individual against all odds has been a popular trope for all forms of story telling
throughout history. Surrounding these triumphant (or sometimes not) heroes are conflicts that can
be categorized into some of the following: man versus man, man versus himself, man versus nature,
and man versus society. The conflict between an individual and society is common in American
literature due to the qualities of a typical American hero; they often run on their own set of morals
and do not fit into their society. However by going through this struggle, characters are able to grow
and develop. The varying reaction amongst characters fighting against their society help authors
show important character developments as well as provide more insight to their true personalities.
In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthornehighlights the empowerment of women in society by
having Hester Prynneas his protagonist. Hester is jailed and practically exiled from her town after
she is discovered to have committed adultery. She refuses to reveal her paramour and has to
raise her daughter, Pearl, by herself under the scrutiny of town officials. In addition to time in
jail, the town makes Hester wear a scarlet letter, which serves as a physical brand that separates
her from society. There is a stark contrast between the ornate letter and her otherwise plain
clothing. Though the color red is associated with her sin, it also represents Hester s passion and
love. Hester s love for

Significance And Significance Of Outsourcing
It is an evident fact that outsourcing is quite prevalent practice among both public and private
organizations. It has been considered as one of the prime elements of any business strategy. It is
with the aid of outsourcing that organizations attempt to reduce the overall cost of sustenance and
augment organizational productivity in comprehensive terms. The activity of outsourcingenables the
organization to render higher level of emphasis on core activities of business. In the past thirty
years, various researchers have undertaken researches to support outsourcing as a mechanism for
bringing down organizational costsin a substantial manner. But the comprehensive impact of
outsourcing remains to be seen. This research work will assess the relevance and significance of
outsourcing in reference to the process of new product development. It is a given fact that the
process of new product development is a highly knowledge driven activity and thereby depends on
array of other activities. It is highly dependent on organization s capabilities to manage uncertainties
throughout the course of new product development. Hence, various concerns in reference to
acquisition of knowledge and application need to be managed in the right manner. In the words of
Ford et al (1993), the main reason for costreduction is that organizations engage in the process of
outsourcing. Hence outsourcing of new product development process can be regarded as a tool to

Implicit Bias Analysis
Implicit Biases in Reader Response
Reading Jane Austen has never appealed to me. The combination of dated prose, a general
aversion to plots I deemed to be too romantic , and my viewing of the film adaptations were
enough to keep me away from her novels. When I was asked to read Persuasion for a class, I was
hesitant and unwilling to fully engage with the material. This prevented me from enjoying the
book fully. I didn t quite know what was holding me back from enjoying the book, but I knew that
it was something more than my explicit biases against Austen. After a little reflection, I realized
that my implicit biases were shaping my reading of Austen. My implicit bias against a novel and
author that I perceived as overly feminine was coloring how I was interacting with and what
messages I was taking from Persuasion (Austen).
Implicit biases are the unconscious attitudes that shape our thoughts, actions, and beliefs (Banaji
and Greenwald 46; Staats et al. 10; Schneider 169).Their impact is important to study because
implicit biases shape our responses to situations. Reader response theory examines how a reader
responds to a given text. Theorists such as Jauss and Eco include concepts that implicit bias can and
should be built into. Jauss horizons examine how our experiences, expectations, culture, and place
in time shape how we react and create meaning. Though implicit bias is not noted in Jauss
formulation of the horizon, it should be considered as it shapes our

Reflection Of Reading
Before I understood the meaning of words or letters, I loved to read. There is a picture of me in
my childhood photo album, where I am sitting in a wagon surrounded by books. I am wearing
red plaid overalls and a bright green shirt, my hair is in pigtails and I am fixated on the book
which rests on my lap. Although I do not remember this moment, I can tell you exactly what I was
doing: I was examining the pictures of the bookand making my own story. I was pointing to each
individual word on the page and saying what I thought it was based on the story I created. This
was my favorite way to pass time at this age, staring at pictures and pretending that I could read as
if I were an adult. From a young age, I was fascinated by adults I thought they were in a secret club
that I wanted to be a part of. I would press my head to doors and sneak around to see what was
happening behind my back. I saw readingas my pass into adulthood, that once I could read I would
age 18 years and finally be a grown up. Therefore, from the age of 3 I dedicated myself to
reading, I had no understanding of letters, sounds, or words yet I still had my face in a book.
One day, I was with my friend when I excitedly demonstrated my reading skills. I read the book as
I practiced examining the pictures and then running my finger over the words, imagining what they
might say. I tried to remember the way my mom read me the book before I went to bed each night.
The excitement I felt was surreal, I felt smart

Key Ideas Of Mercantilism
Mercantilism is a political and economical system that continued on the 16th to late 18th century. It
means that a country s economic power is related to the maintenance of a positive balance of trade.

The Canadian Justice System And Capital Punishment
On December 11th, 1962 an important event occurred, an event that would change the
Canadian justice system in its views on capital punishment. Two men, Arthur Lucas, and Ronald
Turpin was to be executed in Canada for committing crimes. Both had been accused of committing
murder, Lucas for killing an officer while fleeing a robbery and Turpin for murdering an
undercover narcotics officer. Both were hanged back to back at midnight and buried side by side
with no marking on their graves. Lucas and Turpin were the last to be executed under capital
punishment and since then Canada has stopped this practice. Capital punishment has become the
subject of debate in Canada of whether it should be reintroduced. But the question is, does Canada
really need to re introduce capital punishment? Canada as a country is doing perfectly fine with its
justice system and the need for capital punishment seems unnecessary.
Capital punishment is expensive to maintain and raises the question of human rights and morals as
well as to injustice to those who are innocent who might be wrongfully executed.
The cost of maintaining any civil service is expensive to maintain, this is especially true for
correctional facilities. It costs an average of $117,888 for each prisoner in Canadas 54 federal

The Heroes Of Ancient Greek Myths
Two Brilliant Heroes in Ancient Greek Myths Who has not heard of heroes in Greek mythology?
They are the role models, inspirations, and protagonists in myths. In ancient times, after a long
work day, the members of the community have little to no energy remaining, but utilize what
strength they have left in a magnificent manner. The citizens meet up, and entertain themselves
with myths regarding heroes, monsters, gods and goddesses. However, the most popular myths
revolved around heroes, and their adventures. In the majority of myths, heroes participate in
impossible adventures, and miraculously, came back with more confidence than they had when
they set out. The heroes in these myths are the ones that everyone loves and appreciates. Two
examples of famous heroes are Hercules and Achilles. They are two well known heroes that play
active roles in myths, and teach valuable life lessons. The two myths and the role of the heroes in
them that are analyzed here are two fan favourites: the myth of Hercules and Athena, and the myth
of Achilles and the
Trojan War. Hercules s adventure begins as soon as he is born. The fact that he is a product of
Zeus and a mortal enrages Hera, Zeus s wife, and Hercules suffers. As a result of this, Hera sends
two snakes to kill him in his crib. The infant Hercules is unusually strong and strangles the snakes
before they can assassinate him. As one can see from is, he is the most superior of all mortals, and

Essay On Aussie Air Negotiations
Introduction
The Aussie Air negotiations were a series of five party talks between Down Under Air (DUA), the
Aussie Air Shareholders (AAS), Aussie Air Management, the Federal Government and the Aussie
Air Workers Unions. I was the united unions spokesperson for the negotiations, representing their

This paper will review the contents of the negotiations, relating them to key ideas and concepts
gleaned from research and lectures through thorough reflection and critical analysis. It will discuss
the success of the negotiations, the tactics used to claim value, the methodology of creating value,
and the revision of strategies with dynamic relationships as new information emerged. It will also
examine the politics of coalitions formed and the observations of cognitive biases and emotions.
The Negotiations Success
To comprehensively evaluate the success of the negotiations, there has to be a panoramic range of

How To Build An Arch In Roman Architecture
During the Roman era, architecture and building styles took many leaps forward. This was partly
due to the development of two key technologies: the arch and concrete. These technologies, and
others, gave the Romans new capabilities in both domestic and public architecture, as well as the
creation of infrastructure. In their furthering the development of the arch, the Romans took
inspiration from the architectural achievements of their Greek neighbors (wikipedia). The arch
was often used in the construction of grand monuments, as a centerpiece of it s own. These
massive structures were constructed as a celebration by leaders, often to celebrate victory in battle.
Bas relief, featuring scenes of religion, warfare, and ancestors, were carved into the arches. One
well kept example is the Arch of Septimius Severus at the Forum, erected AD 203 to celebrate his

Often times, when people hear the word college , they visualize a lot of binge drinking. Alcohol
does have an impact on academic performance. After giving you my spiel of information, you may

The drinking culture in Europe is a lot different from the drinking culture in the United States. In
America, the drinking culture serves the purpose of getting drunk. The majority of college students

Casual drinking is something that is greatly appreciated, no matter where you go. It is normal to
have a pint or two every night at the pub. But if someone in America were to do that, we would
accuse them of being an alcoholic. Although the American drinking culture and the European
drinking culture have vastly different atmospheres, the basic principle of drinking remains the
same: you do not have to get hammered when you drink.
According to the World Health Organization, in many European countries where the drinking age is
18 or younger, teens have more drinking occasions per month, but fewer occasions of dangerous
intoxication than their American counterparts. One in ten of all drinking occasions result in
intoxication in southern European countries, whereas in America, nearly half of all drinking
occasions result in intoxication.
This also leads to problems with exchange students. A culture of casual drinking combined with a
lower drinking age makes it easy for American students to get carried away. The Universityof
Washington for Psychology of Addictive Behaviors reported that American students typically
double their alcohol consumption while abroad, from an average of four drinks a week to eight.
While the study was unable to determine in what capacity the students drank, the fact remains that
the students in the survey drank more while abroad. This does not come as a surprise, especially
considering American college students have a reputation of drinking heavily in the first

is getting to power in unorthodox ways. A common example in the U.S. is a tactic called
Gerrymandering (Britannica). Named after Governor Elbridge Gerry, Gerrymandering is the
practice of manipulating the political boundaries of a place in order to give one side of a
political debate an advantage. An example of this would be if I were a Republican, and changed
the voting boundaries so that I had more support in a certain area. If done well, this single area
could outweigh the other areas in power, winning me whatever area I am running for.
Gerrymandering is a common example of political corruption in the U.S, because it immorally

Comparing Virgin And Child With Donor

Comparison between Virgin and Child with Donor ( the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston) of c. 1480
by Antoniazzo Romano and The Virgin and Child with St. John the Baptist ( the Museum of Fine

The Pictorial style of Art has changed throughout the high Renaissance period to Baroque. The
Virgin and Child with Donor (The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston) of c. 1480 (tempera and gold

With the influence of mannerism in Renaissance , the composition of the figures intertwine and
create not just complex composition but a dynamic three dimensional space. Both of the child
have its left leg stepping forward, however, because of the diagonal composition in the Dolci
painting and the depth expressed by the diagonal accent, it enhances the three dimensional effect.
Dolci s composition is also more unified meaning the subjects form a dynamic composition
relationship. There is more variation of postures in the painting and their limbs, accessories are
more intertwined. The scene seems more like a happening than a positioned, still portrait. Romano
s composition of the space seem to be more layer based and there are less spatial relationships
between the figures. Dolci also introduced a new technique by cropping the image of the subjects
with a slight highlighted line. This new technique is unique in a way that it restraint the subject in
another area than the frame. This enhances the three dimensional effect evermore, giving the
illusion as if the viewer would peek into the space inside of the painting, instead of looking
directly at the image and associating it with areas outside of the painting such as a frame which
naturally limits space and create a barrier between the viewer and the subjects in painting

Plagiarism Is Wrong
My assignment is to write a four page essay about plagiarism and why it is wrong and to be
avoided. According to the internet, plagiarism is taking someone else s work and acting as if it is
original with you . The actual author is not given proper credit for their thoughts, ideas, and
concepts per the internet dictionary. When the writingdoes not have the right notations people will
assume that you wrote it if your name is on the paper. If another person work is used provide
quotes! Plagiarismis considered academic dishonestyand a breach of writing ethic. It does not mean
that you said it was your work, but you acted as if it is yours. Some people plagiarize because they
have a good memory. They did not mean to or didn t recall hearing it or reading it. But if someone
asks you about it and you are silent, it is equal to acting like it your original work. One example of
plagiarism is when you pay people to do your work and turn it in. Copying a book or chapter is
plagiarism. Cheating off of a classmate paper is another example. Taking credit for someone s
quotes. Asking your girl friend to do your homework. Copying off your brother who took the class
last year.
There are a number of reasons why plagiarism is wrong. Some people work hard studying and
thinking to come up with their writings ideas and you just take it as if it is your own. Next,
plagiarism is wrong because it is academic dishonesty. Also it will jeopardize your own work that
you did from your

Divorce and the Bible Essays
The law defines divorce as ВЎВ§a legal dissolution of the marriage contract by a court or other
body having competent authority. This is properly a divorce, and called, technically, divorce a
vinculo matrimonii. ``from the bond of matrimony. (b) The separation of a married woman from
the bed and board of her husband divorce a mensa et toro (or thoro), ``from bed board. ВЎВЁ Does
this definition follow that of the Bible?
Mark 10:1 12ВЎX ВЎВҐJesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the
Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them. Some
Pharisees came and tested him by asking, ВЎВ§Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?ВЎВЁ
ВЎВ§What did Moses command you?ВЎВЁ He replied.

I believe that Jesus brought up the examples of adultery to better illustrate his point.
If a couple decides to become divorced, they only decide to live apart. They are still married. Before
God, they are not allowed to remarry. Marrying, or engaging in sexual acts with, another while
married is considered adultery. Thus, doing these acts while living in separate homes is still adultery.
Matthew 5:31 32: ВЎВҐ ВЎВ§It has been said, ВЎВҐAnyone who divorces his wife must give her
a certificate of divorce.ВЎВ¦ But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital
unfaithfulness, causes her to become and adulteress, and anyone who marries a divorced woman
commits adultery.ВЎВЁВЎВ¦
What exactly was Jesus saying here? It seems to be quite similar to the recollection of Mark, but
with an added twist. The married couple is still bound before God. Thus, the adultery aspect still
stands after the marriage. However, Jesus explains that divorce is only permissible in the case of
adultery. Does this act of divorce label her as an adulterer? Or, is he saying that a divorce is only
considered a divorce before God after adultery?
A loop hole is seemingly formed in this statement. A divorce is only considered a divorce of spirit
after an adulteryВЎXmeaning it is the ultimate sin in a marriage. If one decides to become
divorced for other reasons, then it is not an

Nicotine Research Paper
To many individuals simply quitting smoking proves to be a bit more difficult that they might
think. It is a weak mindset of the individual or is it something more than just going cold turkey.
Looking a little deeper to the content of what cigarettes contain, one of its ingredients might have a
better explanation as to why it might be so challenging to just give up smokingtobacco. Nicotineis
an alkaloid that in its natural state it has a clear liquid appearance with a characteristic odor.
When it is expose to air it changes its coloration to a brown color. Nicotine can be absorbed via
oral mucosa as it is found on dipping and chewing products, as well as through the lungs as
cigarettes, cigars, vaping devices and second hand smoke. Nicotine can also be absorbed via the
skin in a form of nicotine patches. Once nicotine is ingested, it s absorbed and metabolized by the

Pretty much all the organs Vidal to survival. According to the world health organization Tobacco is
the leading cause of preventable cancers. The WHO estimates that around 1.27 billion of the worlds
populations are tobacco users. Tobacco consumption alone accounts for nearly 5.4 million deaths
per year and one billion people may die in this century if global tobacco consumption remained at
the current levels. An international treaty spearheaded by WHO in 2003 and signed by 170
countries, aims to encourage governments to reduce the production, sales, distribution
advertisement and promotion of tobacco products. Despite strong opposition from the Industry, the

Budget Cuts And Its Effects On Society
Imagine world that is bland, along with its individuals all the selfsame. In result of the reprehension
of creative courses in academia. That previously mentioned world would soon become an actuality.
When budget cuts were accruing in my school district; I remembered my fine arts teachers were
petrified that not only their department would cease to exist but they would no longer have an
occupation. There is a constant reminder of how paramount the sciences and mathematics are; but
the fine artssuch as music, ceramics, art, and all the other courses that allow creative freedom are
important as well.
As in consequence of our troubling economy, budget cuts were inevitable. In the year 2008, more
than eighty percent of schools nationwide had received budget cuts. Music and theater classes were
cut to the full extent along with some art programs. Within the late 90s and early 2000s schools had
theatre and dance classes available, ranging in the twenty percentile. Currently, that percent has
dropped drastically to two percent. These are just brief statistics on the outcome of budget cuts and
how quickly the outcome is the demise of the fine arts in schools nationwide.
A student who does not enjoy the fundamental classes might not find interest in going to school.
The innovated minds that find tranquility in a music class or rather a basic art class is more likely
to look forward to attending school the next day. Fine arts enhance the mind. It enhances what is

The Topic Of Body Weight
The topic of body weight in America is a sociopolitical phenomena with multiple, often conflicting
perspectives. Some refer to the issue of obesity as an epidemic, highlighting social and political
solutions to redress the consequences of weight gain amongst U.S. citizens. Others point to the
socially constructed nature of bodies and the meanings surrounding them. These scholars argue that
the idealized bodily form is projected to glorify hegemonic standards of health and beauty, which
operate according to capitalist and gendered norms. As a consequence, those outside the glorified
norm tend to experience shame, stigma, and discrimination. From media outlets to individuals,
from researchers to government agents, the consistent communication about weight in America
demonstrates the severity of the phenomenon. There are over 170 million Americans who are
severely obese, obese, or overweight including women, men, and children (Ogden, Carroll, Kit,
Flegal, 2012). Additionally, 22.9% of adult Americans suffer from metabolic syndrome, a medical
condition in people who appear to be of a healthy weight but have dangerously high levels of fat
inside their body (BeltrГЎn SГЎnchez, Harhay, Harhay, McElligott, 2013). The causes behind the
epidemic are complex but are often examined as an excess of caloric intake and a lack of sufficient
activity (Tukuitonga Keller, 2005). As mentioned previously, the obesity epidemic is a complex
phenomenon with socio economical, geographical, and

The Problem With Pleasure By Laura Frost
In Laura Frost s book, The Problem with Pleasure, she tackles the work of modernist Gertrude
Stein. In the chapter labeled Stein s Tickle Frost tries to help her readers understand and
interpret Stein s Tender Buttons, along with other works. She writes, I want to suggest a new
model for approaching Stein s work that takes into account both the appeal and the difficulties
of her texts: tickling (Frost 66). Instead of focusing on Stein s words and trying to explain what
she means in her works, Frost clarifies what s happening with Stein through the other side of a
literary work, meaning the readers instead of the author. Frost does not fully explain Tender
Buttons itself, but she tries to define Stein s purpose for writing the way she does by analyzing
the relationship Stein has with her readers. Using this tactic instead of just simply telling her
audience what Stein means when she writes things such as, A light white, a disgrace, an ink spot,
a rosy charm (Stein 13), is a way to help her readers understand where authors, such as Stein, are
coming from. So in helping Stein s frustrated readers understand her work, Frost does three main
things: she shows the readers that they are not alone in their sea of frustration, she clarifies what
Stein is doing when she uses certain words or repetitions, and she explains where the readers stand
according to Stein. One way to appease someone in any kind of frustrating situation is to assure
them that they are not alone, and

  • 2. The Cultural Experience Of The Biennale Of Sydney If each era posits its own view of reality, what is ours? Stephanie Rosenthal Sydney s 20th Biennale is entitled The future is already here it s just not evenly distributed, where it explores the ideas about technology, virtual reality, science fiction and the ways in which individuals and communities are living in an increasingly digital and technological world. This theme was inspired by an American Canadian science fiction writer. The artistic director, Stephanie Rosenthal investigates the relationship we have with technology and the power it holds to transport us to another world allowing new concepts and opportunities to arise however it also removes us from our environment and physical bodies. The aims of the Biennale of Sydney is to allow inventive and creative experimentation to be explored and to challenge the norms of predictable artmaking practices. The Biennale advocates a real cultural experience through combining the many different artworks created by many different artists instigating a global conversation about art. The Biennale occurs every two years in Sydney and brings such a cultural experience to the Sydney. The 20th Biennale of Sydney is presented in seven main venues around Sydney and each location is known as an embassy , where they display different ideas however are connected. • 3. Realism Essay Realism Realism means accuracy of speech and setting, thorough background detail and a concern for vermisimitude or realism could mean the willingness to face the facts. Realism is hard to define. There are different types of realism documentary, social, emotional and dramatic. Technical codes play an important role in making realism in soaps, this refers to documentary realism where soaps are supposed to look like they haven t been constructed and camera work shouldn t be too complicated, it should be like looking in on someone s life through their window. The editing should be invisible making the soap look like a continuous shot so it doesn t look like we are watching a piece of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The setting of Eastenders is a mythical 1950 s setting with the street markets and the close community people knowing everybody else s business. I think that they have made this representation look very realistic but I also think that people will find it hard to relate to this more because most London communities are not like this anymore and people would feel uneasy and unsafe with the idea of keeping their backdoor open all day. Storylines are another important element in realism; it involves the use of social realism where soaps use social issues (eg. Teenage pregnancy; In Coronation Street Sarah Platt deals with the pressures of becoming pregnant at the age of 13. Another example of a social issue is family feuds, which is shown constantly in Eastenders within the Slater family.) that effect the working class. This is good because the audience will then feel that they can relate to at least one social issue and involves them more with the soap. Emotional realism is also used, people become attached, they are watching something that is emotionally true to life but what they see isn t real on a denotative level. An example of this is in Coronation Street, when Karen was experiencing a miscarriage and having to cope with the grief afterwards. Another example is in Eastenders, when Little Mo was experiencing constant domestic violence from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reality is more complicated though several provinces have semi autonomous status and cities like Hong Kong and Macao have freedoms the rest of China does not. Recently Taiwan elected a pro independence party. Even though Taiwan is not part of the people s republic of Chinait has always maintained that it intended to be part of a democracy China. The time frame is also easy to mark start and end with the rise and fall of the dynasty. Yet in the time following the Han and until the Sui there were only one dynasty that ruled all of China the Jin and it lasted only till the death of its ruler. This has lead to the time period being given different names and boundaries. Some of the names used are the Northern and Southern Dynasties and the Six Kingdom period. The former refers to the fact that this period saw China broken into a clear north and south division while the latter refers to the fact that this time period saw Six Dynasties controlling the southern part of the country. Others will divide the time period into three separate eras, these being the Three State or Kingdom Period, the Western Jin, and the Northern and Southern Dynasties. The first refers to the three kingdoms that formed after the fall of the Han also called the three kingdom period. The western Jin was the name of the brief uniting dynasty the eastern Jin lasted longer in the south but China was no longer unified. This Northern and Southern Dynasties refers strictly to time after the fall of the Jin until the rise of the Sui. I will use the term northern and southern dynasties for the larger time period as I feel it would be improper for us to use the term Six Kingdom Period to refer to the north which ultimately reunified China. The physical boundaries of China changed rapidly during the northern and southern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Exhibit Of The National Air And Space Museum In 1993, a plan to build an exhibit of the Enola Gay in the National Air and Space Museum received immense amounts of criticism from military historians, journalists, and veterans, as they felt that it didn t correctly portray the Japanese and those in the American armed forces during the war. The book s authors offer theories ranging from historical context, how Japan s role in the war was interpreted, the American people s discomfort regarding Truman s order to drop the bomb, the mood of Americans during Vietnam, and the American lives spared as a result of the bomb. Edward Linenthal s Anatomy of a Controversy conveys that Martin Harwit, the director of the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, wanted to transform the day of August 6. The anniversary of Hiroshima had previously been a day of protest and recrimination, and Harwit s goal in mind was to turn the anniversary into one of reflection. If the exhibit was perceived in the wrong way, Harwit feared it could be interpreted as celebration (Linenthal, 19). Veterans who were aboard the B 29 airplane were the first to direct their criticism over the exhibit, arguing that the exhibit would not be displayed correctly. It was an insult to every soldier, sailor marine and airman by not clearly describing that Japan had actually caused the United States intervention in the war (Linenthal, 20). As a dog follows a bone so do teenagers follow the music, we listened to a song called Paganini by Andy Mineo. I turned to the person beside me and asked, what s a Paganini and even though we were all dancing to the music none of us had a clue who or what Paganini was or is. In the end we googled him to find out that he was, in reality, a musician and a composer from the classical and Romantic era. Nicolo Paganini was born in Genoa, Italy on October twenty seventh, seventeen eighty two. He was born into a family of six children, his parents were Antonio and Teresa Paganini. Although growing up with little money to spare he still managed to obtain violin lessons from the best of the time; Ferdinando Paer, Giovanni Servetto, Giacomo Costa, Alessandro Rolla, and Gasparo Ghirettito. His talent was so evident that legend has it that his mother sold his soul to the devil for his ability to play music. L. monocytogenes attaches strongly to the surface of raw meats and is difficult to remove or inactivate. The multiplication in meat and poultry depends on the type of meat, pH, and the type of cell populations of competitive flora (Farber et al., 1999). • 11. Music And Its Impact On Development Of Musical... INTRODUCTION This essay will be looking at Indie music and discussing its impact with regard to the development of musical performances and production. The word Indie is a term derived from the word Independent. Originally, independent music referred to bands or artists who performed and/or produced music autonomously and without the commercial rules and restrictions associated with major record labels (Hale, 2014). As a result, this offered artists more freedom of expression and a wider scope to push the musical boundaries. Throughout the years the term Indie has evolved into a broader meaning that is harder to define. Today Indie is recognised as a genre of music and is often used as a prefix to another genre such as Indie Pop and Indie Folk. So what is Indie music? And how did Indie evolve to become a genre? BRIEF HISTORY OF EARLY INDEPENDENT RECORD LABELS Independent record labels have been around since music started being recorded (King, 2012, p.13). Created by fanatics with a passion for music, the recording and production process was often self funded and the purpose was to nurture talent and creativity. Most of the major record companies we know today would have once started in this manner (King, 2012). As far back as 1917 independent record labels were recording early Blues and Jazz music. In 1920 following the end of World War 1 (WW1), Brunswick became known as the biggest independent label in the USA. Due to financial problems, Brunswick went ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This poem deals with the idea that all humans are united in the harmonies of life because we all share the same land. This poem describes the relationship between human beings. The poem is describing how he believes that people see the same things he does and feels the same things he does while on the Ferry. Since they do experience the same things, this makes them come together because they must react in the same ways. He is implying that the ferry is connecting humanity because they all witness the same things while riding it. Throughout the poem the speaker shifts who he is addressing. • 13. Security Dilemm Spiral Model Security Dilemma (spiral model) What is a security dilemma ? Does it cause wars? Is the security dilemma confined to international politics? Introduction National security is arguably the primary objective of political leaders and yet conflict and war seems an inevitable aspect of international politics and thus a dominant theme in IR scholarship. The security dilemma or so called spiral model is frequently used to explain the escalation of conflict and onset of war in international politics, particularly paralleling the sequence of events that prompted World War I and the super power arms race during the Cold War . The question remains, however, as a theoretical model, does the security dilemma trigger war? Perhaps a more salient question given the rise in ethnic conflicts and security threats from non state actors since the Cold War is can the security dilemma literature provide policy relevant guidance of how to deal with these sub state threats to regional and perhaps international stability? This response proceeds as follows: First, I define the term security dilemma as well as contextualize its development within the IR scholarship. Second, I argue, the security dilemma concept coupled with neorealist theoretical assumptions may indeed perpetuate a hostile international environment, creating a self fulfilling prophecy effect. Instead, I suggest, the constructivist framework offers much needed intersubjective understandings and ideational alternatives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Diversity Is The Equal Coexistence Of Diverse Cultures,... Introduction In America, past and present, we are faced with many challenges pertaining to diversity. Diversity is defined as the presence of human beings with perceived or actual differences based on a variety of human characteristics (Koppelman 2014). A challenge of diversity faced is on American Education. Education is most important because our future society depends on it and if we did not have it our future would most certainly fail. Learning and schooling is critical for everyone to gain knowledge and continue leading our diverse society forward into the right direction. Since diversity is a common issue relating to students who have gone through these situations there have been many intense debates and legal cases (Dey 2008). Education in America needs to have more pluralism, where all diverse groups can have the same mutual respect. Pluralism is the equal coexistence of diverse cultures, institutions, and/or individuals within mutually supportive relationship within the boundaries of one nation (Koppelman 2009). In a pluralistic society all the groups in the society should be taught about each other s diverse cultures, historical events, and so on in schoolso it can all be fair. It is usually the first line of defense and serves sort of like a gate in which all outside network traffic and internet connections are verified prior to granting access to a private network, making sure it meets security policies in place (IU, 2013). With a firewall a provider can establish which traffic is acceptable and which isn t and the firewall simply executes at command, blocking all unrecognized access making the network more secure. Firewalls originated in the late 1980 s getting their name from firefighting and prevention, signifying keeping a fire out (Rouse, 2014). If an attack on your network occurred it could be compared to a fire which is where the firewall comes in, keeping negative effects out. Firewalls are said to now be used as a major defense against cyber attacks. There are several types of firewalls. The most commonly used are; Packet filtering firewalls: These were one of the first firewalls used. Their main function was to monitor the flow of packets from the internet, verifying the ... The famous Bible story of Daniel and the lions den is more than a simple account of God s deliverance. It also shows that no one is a match for the true God. Daniel had been in captivity approximately 66 years serving faithfully and with distinction in the reign of the Babylonian kings Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar. When the Medo Persian Empire conquered Babylon, Daniel begins serving King Darius. With Daniel s background and wisdom, he is quickly promoted by the new king to an elevated position of envy. Daniel was given the gift of prophecy even though he would not claim the title of prophet. • 27. Triump in The Scarlett Letter by Nathiel Hawthorne The triumph of an individual against all odds has been a popular trope for all forms of story telling throughout history. Surrounding these triumphant (or sometimes not) heroes are conflicts that can be categorized into some of the following: man versus man, man versus himself, man versus nature, and man versus society. The conflict between an individual and society is common in American literature due to the qualities of a typical American hero; they often run on their own set of morals and do not fit into their society. However by going through this struggle, characters are able to grow and develop. The varying reaction amongst characters fighting against their society help authors show important character developments as well as provide more insight to their true personalities. In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthornehighlights the empowerment of women in society by having Hester Prynneas his protagonist. Hester is jailed and practically exiled from her town after she is discovered to have committed adultery. She refuses to reveal her paramour and has to raise her daughter, Pearl, by herself under the scrutiny of town officials. In addition to time in jail, the town makes Hester wear a scarlet letter, which serves as a physical brand that separates her from society. • 31. Implicit Bias Analysis Implicit Biases in Reader Response Reading Jane Austen has never appealed to me. The combination of dated prose, a general aversion to plots I deemed to be too romantic , and my viewing of the film adaptations were enough to keep me away from her novels. When I was asked to read Persuasion for a class, I was hesitant and unwilling to fully engage with the material. This prevented me from enjoying the book fully. I didn t quite know what was holding me back from enjoying the book, but I knew that it was something more than my explicit biases against Austen. After a little reflection, I realized that my implicit biases were shaping my reading of Austen. My implicit bias against a novel and author that I perceived as overly feminine was coloring how I was interacting with and what messages I was taking from Persuasion (Austen). Implicit biases are the unconscious attitudes that shape our thoughts, actions, and beliefs (Banaji and Greenwald 46; Staats et al. 10; Schneider 169).Their impact is important to study because implicit biases shape our responses to situations. Reader response theory examines how a reader responds to a given text. Theorists such as Jauss and Eco include concepts that implicit bias can and should be built into. Jauss horizons examine how our experiences, expectations, culture, and place in time shape how we react and create meaning. Although I do not remember this moment, I can tell you exactly what I was doing: I was examining the pictures of the bookand making my own story. I was pointing to each individual word on the page and saying what I thought it was based on the story I created. This was my favorite way to pass time at this age, staring at pictures and pretending that I could read as if I were an adult. From a young age, I was fascinated by adults I thought they were in a secret club that I wanted to be a part of. I would press my head to doors and sneak around to see what was happening behind my back. I saw readingas my pass into adulthood, that once I could read I would age 18 years and finally be a grown up. Therefore, from the age of 3 I dedicated myself to reading, I had no understanding of letters, sounds, or words yet I still had my face in a book. One day, I was with my friend when I excitedly demonstrated my reading skills. This was partly due to the development of two key technologies: the arch and concrete. These technologies, and others, gave the Romans new capabilities in both domestic and public architecture, as well as the creation of infrastructure. In their furthering the development of the arch, the Romans took inspiration from the architectural achievements of their Greek neighbors (wikipedia). The arch was often used in the construction of grand monuments, as a centerpiece of it s own. These massive structures were constructed as a celebration by leaders, often to celebrate victory in battle. Bas relief, featuring scenes of religion, warfare, and ancestors, were carved into the arches. Although the American drinking culture and the European drinking culture have vastly different atmospheres, the basic principle of drinking remains the same: you do not have to get hammered when you drink. According to the World Health Organization, in many European countries where the drinking age is 18 or younger, teens have more drinking occasions per month, but fewer occasions of dangerous intoxication than their American counterparts. One in ten of all drinking occasions result in intoxication in southern European countries, whereas in America, nearly half of all drinking occasions result in intoxication. This also leads to problems with exchange students. A culture of casual drinking combined with a lower drinking age makes it easy for American students to get carried away. The Universityof Washington for Psychology of Addictive Behaviors reported that American students typically double their alcohol consumption while abroad, from an average of four drinks a week to eight. While the study was unable to determine in what capacity the students drank, the fact remains that the students in the survey drank more while abroad. This does not come as a surprise, especially considering American college students have a reputation of drinking heavily in the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the United States of America, a large portion of our political beliefs center around a balanced government, where no one group has complete control over the government. A common example in the U.S. is a tactic called Gerrymandering (Britannica). Named after Governor Elbridge Gerry, Gerrymandering is the practice of manipulating the political boundaries of a place in order to give one side of a political debate an advantage. An example of this would be if I were a Republican, and changed the voting boundaries so that I had more support in a certain area. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the influence of mannerism in Renaissance , the composition of the figures intertwine and create not just complex composition but a dynamic three dimensional space. Both of the child have its left leg stepping forward, however, because of the diagonal composition in the Dolci painting and the depth expressed by the diagonal accent, it enhances the three dimensional effect. Dolci s composition is also more unified meaning the subjects form a dynamic composition relationship. There is more variation of postures in the painting and their limbs, accessories are more intertwined. The scene seems more like a happening than a positioned, still portrait. Romano s composition of the space seem to be more layer based and there are less spatial relationships between the figures. Dolci also introduced a new technique by cropping the image of the subjects with a slight highlighted line. This new technique is unique in a way that it restraint the subject in another area than the frame. This enhances the three dimensional effect evermore, giving the illusion as if the viewer would peek into the space inside of the painting, instead of looking directly at the image and associating it with areas outside of the painting such as a frame which naturally limits space and create a barrier between the viewer and the subjects in painting ... I believe that Jesus brought up the examples of adultery to better illustrate his point. If a couple decides to become divorced, they only decide to live apart. They are still married. Before God, they are not allowed to remarry. Marrying, or engaging in sexual acts with, another while married is considered adultery. Thus, doing these acts while living in separate homes is still adultery. Matthew 5:31 32: ВЎВҐ ВЎВ§It has been said, ВЎВҐAnyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.ВЎВ¦ But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become and adulteress, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.ВЎВЁВЎВ¦ What exactly was Jesus saying here? It seems to be quite similar to the recollection of Mark, but with an added twist. The married couple is still bound before God. Thus, the adultery aspect still stands after the marriage. However, Jesus explains that divorce is only permissible in the case of adultery. Does this act of divorce label her as an adulterer? Or, is he saying that a divorce is only considered a divorce before God after adultery? A loop hole is seemingly formed in this statement. A divorce is only considered a divorce of spirit after an adulteryВЎXmeaning it is the ultimate sin in a marriage. If one decides to become divorced for other reasons, then it is not an ... That previously mentioned world would soon become an actuality. When budget cuts were accruing in my school district; I remembered my fine arts teachers were petrified that not only their department would cease to exist but they would no longer have an occupation. There is a constant reminder of how paramount the sciences and mathematics are; but the fine artssuch as music, ceramics, art, and all the other courses that allow creative freedom are important as well. As in consequence of our troubling economy, budget cuts were inevitable. In the year 2008, more than eighty percent of schools nationwide had received budget cuts. Music and theater classes were cut to the full extent along with some art programs. Within the late 90s and early 2000s schools had theatre and dance classes available, ranging in the twenty percentile. Currently, that percent has dropped drastically to two percent. These are just brief statistics on the outcome of budget cuts and how quickly the outcome is the demise of the fine arts in schools nationwide. A student who does not enjoy the fundamental classes might not find interest in going to school. • 49. The Topic Of Body Weight The topic of body weight in America is a sociopolitical phenomena with multiple, often conflicting perspectives. Some refer to the issue of obesity as an epidemic, highlighting social and political solutions to redress the consequences of weight gain amongst U.S. citizens. Others point to the socially constructed nature of bodies and the meanings surrounding them. These scholars argue that the idealized bodily form is projected to glorify hegemonic standards of health and beauty, which operate according to capitalist and gendered norms. As a consequence, those outside the glorified norm tend to experience shame, stigma, and discrimination. From media outlets to individuals, from researchers to government agents, the consistent communication about weight in America demonstrates the severity of the phenomenon. There are over 170 million Americans who are severely obese, obese, or overweight including women, men, and children (Ogden, Carroll, Kit, Flegal, 2012). Additionally, 22.9% of adult Americans suffer from metabolic syndrome, a medical condition in people who appear to be of a healthy weight but have dangerously high levels of fat inside their body (BeltrГЎn SГЎnchez, Harhay, Harhay, McElligott, 2013). The causes behind the epidemic are complex but are often examined as an excess of caloric intake and a lack of sufficient activity (Tukuitonga Keller, 2005). As mentioned previously, the obesity epidemic is a complex phenomenon with socio economical, geographical, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Problem With Pleasure By Laura Frost In Laura Frost s book, The Problem with Pleasure, she tackles the work of modernist Gertrude Stein. In the chapter labeled Stein s Tickle Frost tries to help her readers understand and interpret Stein s Tender Buttons, along with other works. She writes, I want to suggest a new model for approaching Stein s work that takes into account both the appeal and the difficulties of her texts: tickling (Frost 66). Instead of focusing on Stein s words and trying to explain what she means in her works, Frost clarifies what s happening with Stein through the other side of a literary work, meaning the readers instead of the author. Frost does not fully explain Tender Buttons itself, but she tries to define Stein s purpose for writing the way she does by analyzing the relationship Stein has with her readers. Using this tactic instead of just simply telling her audience what Stein means when she writes things such as, A light white, a disgrace, an ink spot, a rosy charm (Stein 13), is a way to help her readers understand where authors, such as Stein, are coming from. So in helping Stein s frustrated readers understand her work, Frost does three main things: she shows the readers that they are not alone in their sea of frustration, she clarifies what Stein is doing when she uses certain words or repetitions, and she explains where the readers stand according to Stein. One way to appease someone in any kind of frustrating situation is to assure them that they are not alone, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
