The Glamorous Spy in Films Such as Casino Royale and...
Introduction Content
Films such as Casino Royale and Mission Impossible are both culturally significant to how people s
general opinions of spies and the profession of espionage. Ian Flemings Bond movies are the longest
running film series ever and this helps the perception and opinions of the films to be passed on from
generation to generation. So far six actors have taken on the role of James Bond and all were
significant super fit good looking and popular actors. This only helps to increase the popularity of the
films and now that the cinema is public it means people of all ages go to watch these films with family
and friends. Many films and actors have taken on similar storylines and characters to that of the Bond
films such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Purpose
The purpose of espionage related films is mainly to entertain. They do this by using various different
signs that appeal to different audiences such as the use of gadgets and expensive sports cars to attract
the male and boys. It is items such as this that make these films so popular among young boys. They
want to be like James Bond when they grow up because of the fancy mission destination and the 5 star
luxury hotels and apartments. Many are attracted by the various outrageous stunts that both the
goodies and baddies pull off. Young girls often aspire to be bond girls because of the glamorous and
seemingly faultless lifestyle that they lead. The adults watching become interested as many of the
films have a storyline based around political disasters and breakdowns.
Development Casino Royale is introduced in Prague, then in Uganda and later Madagascar. This is
again one of the reasons why espionage is so popular, there is a lot of travel involved and visiting
different countries. We are introduced to the main character Bond (played by Daniel Craig) strait away
and a few minutes later the main villain is introduced. Throughout the opening scenes Bond comes
across as a very professional individual. He is also very intelligent, quick thinking and physically fit.
He seems to be quite isolated and that will be part of his job, not to make too close

Life Of Charlemagne Analysis
Einhard (c. 770 840) was a renowned monk, scholar, and writer of Frankish descent. Although
regarded highly for many achievements, the most important contribution of his lifetime was the
uncharacteristically secular Life of Charlemagne, which has since become a topic of great discussion
and scrutiny. Many contemporary historians criticize Einhard s biography about the mighty Frankish
ruler on the basis that it seems to be biased towards painting a near perfect picture of Charlemagne s
reign as king and eventually emperor. There definitely seems to be a one sided view present, taking
into consideration some of the opening statements Einhard prefaces his biography with: Charles, that
most excellent and deservedly most famous king, and, Here ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although the biography was reminiscent of Suetonius s Lives of the Caesars, Einhard did develop a
unique literary style all his own, which would go on to inspire Bishop Asser s Life of Alfred the Great
and biographies of Louis the Pious. This technique provided a stark contrast to the hagiographic
writings characteristic of the time. Although Charlemagne was certainly represented as a pious
Christian man, Einhard didn t want this to comprise all of what made Charle s a great king. He wished
for his greatness to be represented as a more personal characteristic, instead of a Christian

The Responsibility Of The Manhattan Project During World...
The Manhattan Project The Manhattan Project started during World War II in 1940. The war was
between the two opposite military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. Many new weapons were
manufactured during this war era. Two of these weapons happen to be Little Boy and Fat Man. These
two weapons are nuclear atomic bombs, and they also ended World War II. The Manhattan Project
was responsible in manufacturing these weapons. Therefore, the United States (U.S.) benefited from
the Manhattan Project by using its weapons against Japan and dropping two nuclear bombs on Japan s
country which caused great destruction and gave them no choice but to surrender. In 1939, after
uranium fission was discovered, many people were discussing atomic ... Show more content on

The letter stated that German Nazi s were trying to purify Uranium 235, if they were to purify it they
would be able to create an atomic bomb. He also told the president that the U.S. should start building
in order to beat the other countries in making the nuclear weapons. On October 11th, 1939 Alexander
Sachs (a scientist) went to President Franklin Roosevelt and discussed Albert Einstein s letter. The
president thought it was a good idea, so he started funding the project. This project was known as the
Manhattan Project. Once it was approved many scientists got involved, some scientists that got
involved were: Ken Bainbridge (test director of the project), David Bohm (theoretical physics,
philosophy, and neuropsychology), Leo Szilard, Eugene Wigher, Otto Frisch, Rudolf Peieris, Felix
Bloch, Niels Bohr, Emilio Segre, James Franck, Enrico Fermi, Klaus Fuchs, and Eward Teiler. All
these scientists got involved thus starting the Manhattan Project. In 1939, American scientists (many
of them were refugees in Europe) recommended the development of ways to use nuclear fission for
military purposes. Most of the existing research had been performed at Columbia University in New
York City. The project was based in Manhattan, New York. There was more than 30 laboratories and
sites, also there was more than 130,000 people that were involved in different parts of nuclear research
and development with three main locations were: Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Richland, Washington; and

WRACK TECHNIQUES
Note book is a mixture of fact, fiction and speculation.
Your task as reader is to discover the truth.
Bradley makes use of historical incidents and real people. He also draws inspiration from other texts.
This is called intertextuality. For example he draws on Conrad s book Heart of Darkness to explore the
darkness in man s heart. His character Kurt parallels Conrad s Kurtz.
He also quotes from Ondaatje p.37 to develop his idea about maps whose portraits have nothing to do
with surface. This coupled with his narrative about the explorers in the Age of Colonialism
Develops the idea that reality can be deceptive. It can hold hidden dangers and often are a false
premise to start a quest. This links to

Both share similarities in they are emotionally damaged (Tania and Veronica) so the reader discovers
and speculates about the nature of relationships.
The second story is David s quest for both the ship and for some contentment in his personal life. His
story is revealed by 3rd person narration .David is tormented by his wife s death and is struggling to
find love and friendship with Claire. .
The description of their relationship draws on the language of navigation and discovery. She is seen as

Both stories suggest on a personal level that the mind is uncharted and difficult to understand. We see
Claire working at self discovery. David too has to navigate through his emotions; his grief to find
some middle ground with Claire.
The third story is about the age of discovery. This involves comments about maps along with
examples some true some not of explorers. All serve to suggest science is not exact and the process of
discovery holds many dangers. The historical narrative uses a factual and formal language to

Media Violence And Its Effects On Society
Media Violence in Current Society
Yanan Yu
Abstract
This article reviews evidence of the media impact on interpersonal violence internationally. Media
violence always is a controversial topic. There are several factors that demonstrate this impact: (1) A
recognition that electronic media use now dominates most of young people s time; (2) Evidence
demonstrating violent media has multiple harmful effects on children, adolescents, and young adults;
(3) The growing impact of media violence on the media economy and media regulation; (4) Other
factors, such as new technology, globalization, and regulation influence the media violence; and (5)
broad economic and social impacts of the media violence. The following analysis of these factors can
provide further insight into this topic and potentially define some actions to reduce the impact to
society.
Nature and Causes of Media Violence
Media violence generally considered including film, television, video games, newspapers and other
media containing or violent content that causes a bad influence on people s normal life phenomenon
of violence. The influence between media violence and teenagers always can be the subject of
extensive debate. The causes of youth violence are multifactorial. It can be congenital or nurture. For
example, it can be poverty, family psychopathology, child abuse, exposure to domestic and
community violence, substance abuse, media violence, and other psychiatric disorders (Beresin, n.d).

Walt Disney Company Financial Statement
The Walt Disney Company is located in Burbank, California founded in October of 1923 (Disney,
2016). The company is vastly larger today than it was back then in 1923. Today the company does
business in more than 40 countries and prides its self on the following five major avenues, as the
company likes to put it, of business media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, consumer
products, and interactive media (Disney, 2016).
Impressively the Walt Disney Company s media networks span two divisions, the Disney channel
combined with the ABC Television Group and ESPN Incorporated (Disney, 2016). As well as the Walt
Disney Company s digital broadcasts they also dip into cable, radio, and publishing. The Walt Disney
Company has over eleven different types of parks and resorts with locations all over the world
(Disney, 2016). Another very recognizable facet of the Walt Disney Company is their studio
entertainment which they have been perfecting for over ninety years with such cartoons figures as
Mickey Mouse and movies like Snow White (Disney, 2016).

Essay about Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
Okonkwo was well known through out the nine villages because of his achievements in the tribe.
Okonkwo had a great fear of becoming like his father. This had a rather large impact on his life and
how his personality. Okonkwo s father, Unoka, was a lazy man whereas Okonkwo was a hard worker,
Okonkwo ruled his house with a heavy hand and he was a man of war.
Okonkwo s father was a man who was not looked up to through out the village. This was because he
was a man who was lazy and would not think of the future. On page 3 it is stated, In his day he was
lazy and improvident and was quite incapable of think about tomorrow. As a result of Unoka s
lifestyle, Okonkwo despises a lazy lifestyle. Okonkwo s life is all about hard work and never ... Show

His wives, especially the youngest, lived in perpetual fear of his fiery temper, and so did his little
children, (quoted on page 10). This quote explains directly how strictly he ruled his household and his
family. He was a man who would lose his temper over small things, even if it was not a legitimate
reason such as the dead banana tree incident in the following quote (page 28), As a matter of fact the
tree was very much alive. Okonkwo s second wife had merely cut a few leaves off it to wrap some
food, and she said so. Without further argument Okonkwo gave her a sound beating and left her and
her only daughter weeping. This example shows just how disciplinary he was in his household.
Okonkwo was a man of war; he was a great wrestler, however, despite his fame for wrestling he had
won titles for inter tribal wars twice. He never wanted to look weak before the tribe. Ikemefuna was
like a son to Okonkwo. He called Okonkwo as his father and Okonkwo taught him how to work and
do certain things as though Ikemefuna was his son. However, when the time came that the tribe had to
kill Ikemefuna, they specifically asked Okonkwo no to participate with the killing because Ikemefuna
was like a son to him. Okonkwo did not want to seem weak to the clan so he went along as it is shown
in the following quote (Page 44), He heard Ikemefuna cry, My father they have killed me! as he ran
towards him. Dazed with fear, Okonkwo drew his matchet and cut him down. He was afraid of

High School Football Dangers
Dangers of High School Football
I never really thought going back would cost me in the long run, Monti says (Tyler). In today s society,
young men participating in football are raised to be tough and take a hit . What they do not consider
are the dangers of going back too soon. Many athletes will be experiencing symptoms of concussions,
like dizziness and vision issues, but they continue to play (Meadows). American football is one of the
most popular and loved sports in the nation. From nearly birth to adulthood, a majority of boys will
participate in football. Football brings entertainment to millions of viewers, but it can also be very
threatening to the lives of young men. Although high school football can be amusing, the dangers can
lead to injuries and diseases and therefore affect the young athletes in the long run.
Experiencing blows to the head can cause future injuries and diseases. One brain disease affecting
football players is chronic traumatic encephalopathy, otherwise known as CTE. This derives directly
from receiving blows to the head. CTE can lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

neurological problems develop from hits to the head ( Brain ). From concussions comes the symptoms

Persuasive Essay On Chimney Cleaning
All across Johannesburg and Pretoria, majority of homeowners depend on the heat from fireplaces to
keep their family warm during the winter season. As such, it is very important to keep the fireplace
working optimally by ensuring you have a clean chimney. Regrettably, if you do not have your
chimney cleaned it can lead to many major issues. Majority of these issues can be avoided by simply
scheduling a periodic chimney cleaning with a professional. By having your chimney cleaned, you
give it adequate air combustion, thereby resulting to clean burning fire.
How To Tell If You Need a Chimney Cleaning
The main purpose of a chimney is to allow smoke and carbon monoxide to exit your home. This will
allow you to delight in the benefits of a fire with neither of the risks. While many chimney sweeps
recommend that you have your chimney cleaned at least once in a year, sometimes it may need more
than that.
Factors like type of wood burned and how regularly you use your fireplace play a role in determining
how often your chimney should be cleaned. But that s not all, there are also some tell tale signs that let
you know when your chimney needs a cleaning. They include:
*Too much smoke filling the room once the fire is lit.
*Bad odors or a rush of cold air emitting from your chimney when you are not using your fireplace or
stove.
*Your fire not burning brightly as usual or the fire starting very slowly.
*If your chimney is filled with nests, leaves, small animals and other debris.

Pearl Harbor Attack
In 1945, the United States had declared war on Japan after they had attacked Pearl Harbor. Since
Japan was an island, the U.S. wouldn t be able to directly attack them. It was too far away for an air
raid and naval raids would be too predictable and wouldn t work. So, the United States had to think of
a way to attack the Japanese. They decided that since the Japanese were still fighting against other
countries, they could attack the smaller islands surrounding Japan. The U.S. thought that these islands
would be less defended by the Japanese. The United States felt like they could use these islands to
provide a strong area for attacks on the Japanese mainland. This counter offensive attack was known
as the island hopping campaign. The United States were led by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz and
Douglas MacArthur. An island that the U.S. was strongly looking at was Iwo Jima. Iwo Jima already
had 3 airstrips on it, so they saw it as the perfect place to attack. Iwo Jima was an island located about
810 miles south east of Japan. It was part of an island chain called the Japanese Volcano Islands. It
measures about 5 miles long and has an area of about 8 square miles, which is about 8,000 times
smaller than Wisconsin. It ranges from 800 yards to 2.5 miles in width. Iwo Jima was widely known
for a volcano called Mount Suribachi. The U.S. really focused on capturing this landmark because it
could provide them with a great view of the island and it would make it easier to see the

Importance Of School Counseling
According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), Today s school counselors are
vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement,
personal/social development and career development, ensuring today s students become the
productive, well adjusted adults of tomorrow (2017). The definition of a school counselor has changed
throughout the years. There has been a shift from guidance/vocational counseling to a more well
rounded approach. Moving from guidance to counseling, means different job duties and educational
obstacles. Not only do the job responsibilities include career development, social/emotional
development, and academic achievement; included in this change is focus on student s mental health.
With the advancement of this career to the mental health field, comes with educating stakeholders on
the difference. One way to do this is by producing evidence that counseling techniques work in a
language that most stakeholders understand: academics. The money a public school receives correlates
largely with achievement. If the students do well academically, the school becomes more attractive.
Salaries are better; therefore, more qualified teachers apply and communities become more enticing to
tax paying citizens. Just the opposite, schools that perform poorly academically have higher poverty
level, lower teacher experience, and less money paid per student by the state in which it resides. All of

Nordstrom: Dissension in the Ranks?
(1) What problems does Nordstrom s evaluation/compensation system have? Think about this question
while considering the objectives of the company s evaluation/compensation system, what measures it
took, and what happened as a result. A. Nordstrom was renowned for its superior customer service that
was the result of the exceptional customer service efforts (or heroics ) put by their salespeople. So in
order to retain their competitive advantage of superior customer service in the highly competitive
retailing market, they designed a evaluation/compensation system that had the following objectives:

They would also avoid helping their associates to keep them from getting the good SPH ratios. This
created a culture of cutthroat competition. (2) Poor differentiation of Selling and Non Selling time
There was a lack of clear differentiation of Selling and Non Selling time. Employees were not clear
about recording time spent in activities such as hand deliveries, merchandise preparation, sales
promotion and customer correspondence, etc. as Selling or Non Selling time. If they recorded it as
Non Selling work time, they were entitled to the guaranteed base wage with no effect in their SPH.
However, if they recorded it as Selling work time, their SPH would be low. The evidence of this
ambiguity in defining the Selling and Non Selling time is presented by the fact that the Nordstrom
family had to issue the Internal Memo Differentiating Selling vs. Non Selling Time amidst the labor
disputes crisis in mid 1989. (3) No evaluation/compensation service/satisfaction of work time related

The Long Tail Of Underachievement Essay
Education systems are expressly set up to help achieve quality of opportunity and outcome(APA) , but
question is, are they? Statistic s put out by the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study
(TIMSS) showed our 9 year olds were ranked 34th out of 53 countries effectively bottom equal with
other developing nations along with a whole lot of unforgiving data findings (Johnston, 2015). Social
inequality has a much bigger role to play in the long tail of underachievement . It is common
knowledge that in New Zealand the gap between the wealthy and the poor has widened enormously
over the past two decades (APA). To analyses this dilemma we need to look at the defection of
socioeconomic status. Max Weber formed the term socioeconomic status (SES): An individual s or
group s position within hierarchical social structure. Socioeconomic status depends on a combination
of variables, including occupation, education, income, wealth, and place of residence (APA). I will
shed some light on answering this question and to also look at historical issues relating to
socioeconomic status and New Zealand s education. I will also mention some solutions that have put
forward, to provide opportunities for all children in New Zeland.
From where it all began, the first contact with Pakeha in the late 1700s and early 1800s, was largely
on Maori terms. It is often suggested that one of the main reasons that the first European settles came
to New Zealand was to get away from

Against Mandatory Drug Testing
Drug testing applicants, as well as recipients, on welfare has been an ongoing debate for multiple
years. Many have argued that if an individual has to be tested to get a paycheck, others should be
tested and screened to receive a federal check of financial aid. Those individuals who are recipients of
the welfare program should be drug tested nationwide to eliminate the problematic spending of
taxpayer dollars. Since 1971, this type of testing has been used for military purposes, in the work

Analysis Of Ruta Sepetys Between Shades Of Gray
Have you ever wondered what a human life was worth? That morning, my brother s was worth a
pocket watch (Sepetys). At this point, the NKVD are trying to separate families, but the Vilkas stay
strong and do not let the NKVD push them around. They keep the hope that they will be fine. Before
that, the NKVD gathered up all the Lithuanians who were on the list and put them on a bus to some
sort of station and from there they traveled to labor camps and then again they took a few from the
labor camp and put them on buses and took them too a new location where they were basically sent to
die. This all occurred during the time of World War two. Wrhn Stalin and Hitler were fighting for land.
The novel of discussion is Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. It is about Lina Vilka and her
family as they travel from labor camp to labor camp, and experience terrible abuse and treacherous
conditions. In the process of it Lina manages to fall in love with a boy named Andrius. Sadly after
they realize they like one another they are moved to another camp. The worst part of the whole book is
the deaths it describes. The death of Lina s parents, other Lithuanians at the camps, Ona, and Ona s
baby. It is a;; just horrible. How can one even think of such horrible things to do to innocent people. In
the song Titanium it shows great similarities to Between Shades of Gray. Although Between Shades of
Gray and Titanium are different in many ways, they both show signs of abuse, strength,

I Don t Believe Youths Should Be Jail For Having...
I don t believe youths should be jail for having consensual sex .Example ,I know of an individual who
had a daughter her age Sixteen years old was dating a seventeen year old boy ,the parents did not
approved the relationship ,but these two seem in love ,as soon as the boy turned eighteen her mother
had him arrested and charged for having sex with her daughter ,that ruined the young man life,
because that stigma as a sex offender , would prevent him from having opportunities in his life ,such
as decent jobs. In 2007, Florida created a law known as Romeo and Juliet law, to address issues such
as high school youth being labeled as sexual offenders or sexual predictors, as a result of participating
in consensual sexual relationship. Reason being these stigma, can have long term consequences,
which can affect the offenders, ability to attend his or her child s school functions, and where the
offender can live.(Florida Senate ,2011). Several states have also participated in the Romeo and Juliet
Law this law intention is to protect young sexual offenders who are close in age to their victims and
engage in consensual sex ,from registering as sexual offenders. However Florida, have done this using
a motion or petition process for registration relief, some have provided age gap provisions. Some
states has legalize certain sexual condition between minors, and /or those close in age to avoid not

A Live Action Documentary Of The History And Its Impact On...
The film contains two narratives, a live action documentary of the history of textile mills in the United
States and a cartoon drama about people dealing with the struggles typical in the early years of this
industry. Although they are interwoven with each other in the film, these narratives will be
summarized separately in this essay for the sake of clarity, first the documentary section, and second,
the cartoon, but reflected upon as a unit to better focus on the impact of the film as a whole. The
documentary section details the evolution of technology in the era and its impact on society, beginning
with a description of what things were like in the United States prior to the appearance of mills, noting
that everything had to be done manually. In New England, the creation of clothing typically involved
shearing sheep for their wool, followed by cleaning and carding the wool, making it into slivers,
spinning the slivers into thread, and weaving the thread into cloth, and sewing the pieces of cloth
together into clothing. Tools such as the loom and spinning wheel aided in the process, but they had to
be operated manually. Water wheels had previously been used to power the grinding of grain.
Eventually, in Europe, they also came to be used to power machines that handled carding, then
machines called water frames that spun multiple slivers at once, thus drastically increasing the
production of yarn. Spinning mills were established, generating numerous jobs. Although, in the

Character Analysis Of King Kong
King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are
feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and makes it
relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s motives, and
gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such as King Kong,
one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While writers do an overall
great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love story between Darrow
and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between Darrow and Driscoll in the
beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it challenging to care about their
relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that shows does a great job at showing
what the characters are feeling throughout.
Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is feeling
at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the characters, and
understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the ship crew approach
Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers describe this thick fog that
the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates imagery to describe the dark and
eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog, they start to become afraid, as they
fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is when one of the ship crew members
Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re going (49)! Panic and terror possess the
characters, and the writers do a great of showing it.
The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex character.
At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and destroys, but
later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as himself usually
does not display. A moment where the complexity of King Kong s character is shown is when Ann and
Kong have their first real

The Most Effective General Managers

A REPORT ON THE MOST EFFECTIVE GENERAL MANAGERS
1. Executive summary
According to Boyer and Associates (2010), a General Manager (GM) is not a job but a position . He
further states that a GM is a focal point and has the authority to impact immediately any area of a
business. This tells us that such a position must be occupied by someone that has relevant experience,
the right attitude and necessary skills to make a positive contribution.
It is therefore crucial to understand the characteristics to look for when employing a GM. In this
report, your attention will be drawn to the most relevant characteristics to be possessed by a GM.

* The changing economic conditions of South Africa will soon require a GM to possess a postgraduate
qualification in order to cope. This can also be explored as an option from now going forward.
4. Possible shortfalls in general management
One of the shortfalls is that, not all the time that a GM using charismatic leadership style may be fully
effective. Boyer and Associates stated that charismatic leaders, ...are threatened by individuals who are
free thinkers and strive to develop their own skills .
Myres (2012) from Milpark Business School stated that, GMs who used to be experts in some
functions find it difficult to adjust to management. This could mean an organization is not being fully
managed when Managers are not managing.
If a GM has limited managerial experience, tasks are delegated without accountability. Things go
loose and later the organization operates at an average level. This links to the inability of identifying
potential and creativity that needs to be enhanced. Staff never finds satisfaction in these cases.
A GM that fails to take quick but informed decisions may delay business growth. However, some
decisions require that a GM consults with the person who supervises him/her.
Some GMs fear to take decisions or to raise professional advises as they may be fired for doing so.

Theoretical Calculation And Results Analysis Essay
3.2 Theoretical calculation and results analysis
Firstly, we established a trench assisted optical fiber model to verify the ability of the trench structure
to reduce the bending loss. The specific parameters of the model are listed below: the radius of fiber a
is 4.1μm, the thickness of inner clad b is 4.13μm, the trench width c is 11.3μm, the difference of
trench refractive index ∆n_trench is 0.0048, the refractive index of fiber core nco is 1.45, the
refractive index of clad ncl is 1.445, the curvature radius of fiber is 5cm, the wavelength is 1550nm.
Putting above values in the given formula: α_macro=10/ln⁡
10 ((πV^8)/(16ρR_c W^3 ))^(1/2) exp⁡
(
(4R_c ∆W^3)/(3ρV^2 )) [∫_0^∞▒〖(1 f) F_0 RDR〗]^2/(∫_0^∞▒〖F_0^2 RdR〗 )
Where
V=k_0 ρ√(n_max^2 n_min^2 ),
W=ρ√(β^2 (k_0 n_min )^2 ),
∆=(n_max^2 n_min^2)/(2n_co^2 ), f=(n(r)^2 n_min^2)/(n_max^2 n_min^2 )
The results of calculation are showed below:
Bending loss of the fiber α=0.0092dB/loop, the equivalent step index fiber cladding refractive index
n_e=1.4444, bending loss of it α_e=0.0829dB/loop.
This example shows that in the same transmission condition, the auxiliary trench structure can greatly
reduce the bending loss of the optical fiber. After calculating bend loss optical fiber trench assisted by
an equivalent step fiber method, we will discuss the impact of parameters of each trench structure on
the optical fiber transmission performance in detail.

specifically, the businesses were clustered around Clark Street and Halsted Street. In 1997 Chicago s

This project was in line with similar projects in ethnic neighborhoods. For instance, the metal Puerto

complaints that the pylons would mark connected areas as being gay, flower planters to mark side

Alexander Pope and Christianity
C.M.
The Influence of Christianity in Essay on Man Alexander Pope is an eighteenth century writer who
spent most of his life suffering. He had a rare form of tuberculosis which left him in constant pain. As
a result of this disease, he never grew very tall. He was only about four and a half feet tall and he also
experienced migraines (Greenblatt 2714). Despite all of Pope s impediments, he managed to write
Essay on Man which portrays an extremely optimistic outlook on life. Although Pope says that he
avoids all specifically Christian doctrines, it is doubtful that he would have this same optimistic
outlook without his Christian upbringing (2714). Even though Pope s Essay on Man is universal,

Also, in Romans 3:23, it says, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
Both of these quote are affirming that all men sin which therefore means they are imperfect. In Section
4 of Epistle 1 of Essay on Man, it talks about how man is ignorant of the future which therefore allows
him to be hopeful. In line 85 it states, O blindness to the future! Kindly given (2716.1.85). Not
knowing what our future holds allows us to instill our faith in God. Even though we do not know what
the future holds for us, God does. Since God knows our future, we put our faith in him that if we live
correctly, everything will turn out just how it is supposed to be which is hopefully exactly how we
want it to be. Jeremiah 29:11 declares, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the
LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11). God tells us
his plans for us are good. We trust and believe in him so we trust and believe our futures are filled
with greatness. Pride is a sin and brings humans misery in both Essay on Man and The Bible. In Essay
on Man, Pope writes, In pride, in reasoning pride, our error lies (2717.1.123). Being prideful is a fault
that humans possess. Man is always trying to gain more knowledge and try to reach perfection.
Perfection cannot be achieved so this pride actually

There are 5 different chords used in 8th November, being, A, G, D, D/F# and F3. These chords change
through the verse to the chorus and back again and also alter slightly in the intro (same and the break
down chorus). This specific chord progression can be easily learnt so soldiers and other performers
may be able to learn and play in front of an audience. There is both a melody and a harmony between
the two vocalists, Big Kenny and John Rich, and the instruments, which is easy to recognise and
remember. The melody of 8th November is mostly in steps4, also adding to why it is considered a
conjunct song, but also involves a few leaps5 making small sections of the piece disjunct. The guitar
riff is repeated throughout the song making it Ostinato, or the same note pattern. The melodic
elements of this song make it have a minor tonality or a sadder tone to it. The contour6 of this piece is
undulating as it is smooth as it progresses. There is also a harmony in 8th November which is between
the two vocals of Big Kenny and John Rich. The consonant sounds between the vocalists are mainly

History and Evolution of the Mental Health Counseling...

Student School History and Evolution By the end of World War II, various non medical, behavioral
and cognitive approaches to psychotherapy surfaced, the growth of some being the impact of the
Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963 (Pistole, 2002). The Fund provided funding for the
development of community based mental health care programs with interdisciplinary teams (Weikel

and careers. Many of the enrollees were trained in colleges of education and secured employment
under different professional and paraprofessional titles in community settings, such as hospitals,

Why Should Magnetic Levitation Trains be Implemented in...
Magnetic Levitation Trains
Magnetic Levitation Trains, why should they be implemented in the United States? Whenever
individuals talk about trains, a few ideas pop into one s mind. These include the railway tracks that
provide runways for the wheels, the noise associated with them and the long heavy carriages that they
pull. Utilizing the words Magnetic Levitation in relation to trains may seem like a peculiar idea. Why?
Levitation can be described as the act of raising an object upward in relation with its lightness. Trains
are known to be heavy. Magnetic levitation, which is also known as Maglev, is a rail technology that
utilizes a special magnetized railway track to suspend a train on a magnetic cushion so that it can

The alternating current induces a shifting magnetic field, which creates different temporary poles at
timed intervals. Due to the positioning of the semiconducting magnets and creation of the different
electromagnetic forces, the like pole tend to push while the unlike poles attract, therefore, causing
motion in the direction dictated by the alternating current (Funk and Getsla, 2006).
Adoption of this technology in the United States of America would change the railway transportation
system forever. Firstly, the Maglev trains do not produce any noise. This is because the technology
does not incorporate wheels, bearings, axles and the metallic railway track (Livingston, 2011). The
train is propelled by and kept on the guide way by the well coordinated magnetic forces acting within
the semiconducting magnet and the coils. This means that the noise pollution caused by trains as they
move from town to town would be eliminated (McMahon and Mora, 2010).
Secondly, this technology does not cause any friction between the train and the track, therefore,
allowing for smooth rides. As the train floats on the track, the friction and the unevenness of the
conventional track are eliminated (Shadbolt, 2013).. This facilitates individuals to carry out various
activities such as reading and working in a comfortable manner compared to the conventional trains.
Adopting this technology will provide more comfort in the public transportation sector. Numerous

Social Class And Gender Roles
How are the tensions between social classes and/or genders dramatised in Modern European Drama?
Social class and gender roles, were and still are today, a key element in the progression of theatre.
Dada and Futurism, as movements in theatre took place at the time of the social class war, the
prejudice against women and their rights and the struggle to create an equal society. The two
movements, of avant garde style contained three stage in which they were able to create;
analysis...engagement...forward vision (Berghaus, 2005). Their method to create art and theatre was
impelled on by their desire to attack the dominant ideology of bourgeois society (Berghaus, 2005)
some claim that the word was discovered by opening a dictionary at random (Sawelson Gorse, 1998)
Dada was a crusade in order to win back the promise land of creativity (Berghaus, 2005). Dada, as a
movement, did not only take form of inspiring art, but it was a protest, to test the bourgeois society.
Dada, as movement has a rampant and wild allure about it. The way in which it was approached and is
approached today is similar in a sense of strength and power. In his manifesto Tzara is clear that dada
was born of a need of independence (Tzara, 1918), this does not only imply that there was no
independence in terms of art, but also that Constructivism needed to be moved forward. In Tristen

example on page 19 it says stuff about the slave trade and that is illegal in the USA and most other
countries .so you can tell that this is already a time before slavery was outlawed. On page 139 it says
that Mistress Bishop, said Magistrate Corwin, you are accused of being a witch. How to say you to
this charge? . Which shows that they believed in witches at that point in time. This all shows evidence

Eisenhower s Containment Through Action by Inaction During the Suez Canal Crisis
The 1950 s demanded a certain kind of American President: one tranquil enough to reside over a post
WWII society, and yet bold enough to propel the country through the Cold War. Though a description
of Ike Dwight D. Eisenhower as a strong central leader heavily contradicts the construed image of a
kindly grandfather figure, a bit inarticulate and above politics, a man who enjoyed golfing and trout
fishing over the routine chores of running the government (Neff 37), it is certainly apt. Eisenhower
demonstrated a bold daringness in his time as President; one that was masked by a ... Show more

Eisenhower s view that the way to prevent the spread of communism to the Middle East was by
promoting stability in the region between both the Western powers and the Arab powers went on to
guide his policy towards the Middle East. Eisenhower s goals for US involvement in the Middle East
reflected the president s own cold war ideology and included promoting regional stability,
guaranteeing the free flow of Middle Eastern oil to Western Europe, supporting Arab nationalism and
Israeli independence, improving relationships with the Arab states, hastening the decline of European
empires, maintaining the solidarity of the Western alliance, and avoiding an arms race between Israel
and its Arab neighbors, with the United States and Russia the principal arms suppliers (Ambrose 328
329). The President s commitment to these goals of maintaining relationships and containing
communism accounts for many of the trends that would characterize Eisenhower s conduct in the
Middle East. Among these trends were: Eisenhower s reliance on frequent but informal consultations
with a small number of appointees; his tendency to try and delay the inevitable for as long as possible
as to allow for planning; his hesitation towards nearly any action, whether it be to take action or to
cease taking action; his encouragement for vagueness and secrecy pertaining to the Crisis; and finally,
his ability to firmly and effectively communicate his full executive power. Eisenhower s

Essay on Citizenship
Stating that I m a American citizen I really can t explain what the role of a Canadian citizen would be.
So I m just going to talk about what I understand the role of a American citizen should be in the U.S.
As American citizen I feel as though participating in the political process should become a law in the
U.S because many American bicker and complain about their local mayor, representatives, or the
president, but the citizens who complain are those that do not get out in vote. These citizens go on
national T.V and bash political parties and cause big arguments but yet couldn t even take out time to
go and vote. This is beginning to cause a problem in the U.S and is causing many problems. Due to
the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One situation I don t understand is how some citizens argue that millionaires make to much and that
athletes make to much and that their being paid to much stipend. I feel as though its not the athletes
fought that their gifted with such talents. If you look at it they deserve the stipend their receiving
because athletes bring in billions and billion of dollars a year so i figure they should get their share of
the revenue also. I don t think they should be criticized for not donating in fact I ve found to believe
that 80% of pro athletes donate more than 10,000$ a year to a charitable fund or organization. Just
because the money is not personally given to you doesn t mean the athletes are not sharing their
millions.
I believe as time goes citizenship will get to be more of a issue than it is now. I do believe citizens
form others countries will only have a certain amount of time to leave in the U.S before their
imported. The reason why is that with the U.S being in trillion dollar deficit I just don think we will be
able to afford others citizens.
All in all I enjoy being a American citizen and I believe in due time Americans will realize that doing
the right is what s best and being lazy make situations no better. Americans citizens go thru a lot every
year but some how we make the best of situation sometimes so as a American

The Pros And Cons Of Virtual Reality Games
Virtual Reality games are the new emerging type of video games. It is the digital simulation of the
game era before video games existed; as for it is trying to recreate the illusion of actually being part of
the game instead of playing it on a flat monitor. A broad definition of Virtual Reality according to
Steven LaValle is Inducing targeted behavior in an organism by using artificial sensory stimulation,
while the organism has little or no awareness of the interference. ( LaValle, 1). He states that the
player or the user is put in a situation that is made by the creator of this certain virtual environment so
that the user feels as part of the simulated world and could hardly distinguish the artificially simulated
world from reality. Moreover, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DeepMind technologies are trying to build an artificial intelligence (A.I.) system similar to the human
mind, capable of carrying out the process of analysis and making decisions by itself. If this kind of
A.I. will be applied to virtual reality games in the future, people will be able to play games by
themselves in a virtual world with the semi human computers, completely isolated from any social
relationships and interactions. The results that might proceed from this human machine interaction in a
virtual world are all hypothetical, but one can guess that it might be similar to the isolation caused by
the internet or video games. For example, as stated, Internet has spurred a phenomenon of social
isolation which leads to reduced communication and intimacy with friends and family. Many people
no longer need to venture from their homes in order to work or enjoy themselves. (Botella, Quero, and
Baños 90). Virtual reality will not be much different, as for, the user will not feel the need to
communicate with anyone in the real world, communication within the game with machines will be
enough for him. Thus, people will become so involved in their activities in cyberspace, that they will,
in turn, neglect their social and functional involvement in the real world (Albert, Schultheis and
Rothbaum 19). They will feel satisfied with the social relations they experience in the virtual
environment, therefore, leading to neglecting their relationships with actual people in the real world.
Everything and everyone will become irrelevant as if their social life has become a

Second Marking Pattern Analysis
I hope you are doing well. In school, I have improved greatly, and the second marking period has gone
better than the first. Soon, I will transfer into the third marking period, and I hope I am prepared for it.
Although the first marking period has not gone to plan, I made up for it in the second marking period,
and am looking forward to improving more in the third marking period. In English, I have been
experiencing more homework than usual, and we are taking extremely important notes that will help
me prepare from high school all the way through college. We have been taking spelling tests weekly,
and it has improved my spelling dramatically, but I still need to try my best. Also, the vocab from the
stories we read in the literature book has expanded my vocabulary greatly, and I will most likely
continue to expand my vocabulary. So far, I am satisfied with my English grade, and home to keep it
at the same grade throughout the year. In algebra, we will be taking the mid term exams soon, and will
have been preparing for weeks prior. I have been successful in algebra by maintaining my grade at an
A. Currently, we are learning about the equation y=mx+b, and a am sure I have ... Show more content

Currently, it is my worst major class, grade wise. Even though it has been easy for me the past couple
years, it became more difficult this year. On the bright side, it has stayed at a B, and has been
consistent for the entire second marking period. In science, we are learning about speed, acceleration,
and velocity, and it has been the easiest chapter in the book, in my opinion. Also, we are learning
about how someone on a plane can not see motion in a person on the plane with them, but a person in
the airport can. Mrs. Camilleri said that it is all about the angle that you are looking at the object from.
I am not satisfied with my science grade this year, but I still have half of the school year to bring the

Seven Pounds
I watched the movie Seven Pounds staring the well known Will Smith as the main character. This
movie delivers a very powerful message and leaves the audience contemplating what their mission in
life ultimately is. Personally I love the way this film was written because it gives the audience a
chance to truly look back on their lives and receive some form of a personal message. This film is
portraying individual s personal missions in this world, and allows them to get a glimpse of what their
purpose in life will be.
Will plays a character named Ben Thomas, who is an IRS agent, he visits a variety of people to collect
their taxes. Ben is a unique character because at first he seems very cynical, but throughout the movie
he takes on a contradictory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To me the answer is no. This film really spoke to me and made me realize that I want to make a
difference in the people s lives around me, do good where I can, and identify the issues in today s
world that I am passionate about and dedicate myself to improving the world in those areas. Over all,
there are many lessons to take away from this film, and it will leave almost anyone with a lump in
their throat at the end of the movie. The most important and central message of the film is to dive deep
down into one s own life and discover for what purpose he or she is here. This film did really good in
succeeding as a film in general, because regardless of the person everyone can walk away with
something from this movie. I think another point that makes this film so touching is the actor s ability
to make us feel like we were in the same situation, they really made the movie what it is. Some of the
visuals could have been better produced but it was small things that most people would overlook
because the message is so

Analysis Of The Thinking Out Loud Video
After watching the three videos, I had a very differing opinions about all of them. The one that stuck
out to me the most, and certainly not in a good way, was the Thinking Out Loud video. Obviously, the
interpreter was not qualified to be doing that type of work. After watching the video, the first time
with the sound on, I watched it again with the sound off to see if I could understand her signing.
Unfortunately, I did not understand what she was saying. In terms of ethical considerations, or in this
case lack thereof, there is absolutely no regard toward assuring equal access to her consumers. I do not
recall her even completing one full sentence or thought when I was watching with the sound off and
no captions. I did notice that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His facial expressions and use of non manual markers were much greater than those of the other two
videos. He was very easy to understand and used very strong ASL. Per this assignment, I interviewed
a Deaf individual named Alyssa Kovatch. Her reactions to the videos were nearly identical to mine.
We thought the same things about the videos, especially the Thinking Out Loud one. During our
FaceTime interview, Alyssa said she was Awful and that she Could not understand the video at all
unless [she] read the captions. She also said that she did not like how in the Boston Blizzard video she
had to read the captions for the whole first part of the video since the interpreter was not shown until
later. Even when the interpreter was being shown, Alyssa said it was difficult to see her. She said that
in emergency situations it is absolutely important for interpreters to be shown in focus, or at least on
the side of the screen in a separate bubble. Alyssa did say that she appreciated the first and the last
videos much more than she appreciated the middle one. Along with interviewing a Deaf Individual, I
also spoke with (retired) certified interpreter Debbie Drobney. Debbie had very few, if any, positive
things to say about the second video, much like both Alyssa and I. She couldn t even sign the year
2016 right, Debbie said during our interview. She said this woman was obviously not professionally

Freedom In America
The United States of America is and has always been very close to realizing democracy s ideal of a
country where there is liberty and justice for all , though a number of factors have conspired to move
the country away from them in the past, and threaten to do so in our immediate future. Though their
outcomes have varied considerably over the years, the main factors causing the U.S to stray from its
ideals of freedom and equality have always been one or both of the following factors discrimination
and war. These factors are perennial, affecting every nation that has ever existed and probably every
nation that will exist, and our nation s reaction to them has been on par with that of every other nation
in a similar position. From ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such factor is war. During World War I, the Espionage Act of 1917 was used to jail prominent
critics of American intervention in the war among them, Eugene V. Debs, four time presidential
candidate (Ball, 146). Shortly after the war ended, A. Mitchell Palmer used the powers granted by
the act to conduct mass arrests and deportation of hundreds of foreign residents (Emert, 54, 55, 56).
During World War II, the federal government forcibly relocated thousands of Japanese Americans into
what were essentially concentration camps (Cooper, 10, 11). The Japanese internment was
implemented in the name of combating a virtually non existent military threat, for fear that Americans
of Japanese descent might aid the Empire of Japan (Cooper, 63). After the September 11 attack on the
World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon and the declaration of the War on Terror, the USA
PATRIOT Act was hurriedly conceived and passed into law (Ball, 38). Included in the law were
provisions for roving wiretaps, the sharing of information between criminal probes and intelligence
agencies and secret searches of private property in violation of the Constitution (Ball, 57, 74, 81). War
has always been a major contributor to the detriment of civil liberties in all nations, and

Horizontal And Vertical Integration During The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was a period that transformed a mainly agrarian society into an urban industrial
society. It made several positive contributions to society and greatly advanced the economy. However,
the Gilded Age also produced negative outcomes that came along with industrialization and the rise of
large cooperations. Industry, labor unions, and immigration together created the Gilded Age which
was characterized by economic growth coupled with political and social inequality. To begin,
throughout the Gilded Age, economic power was held in the hands of few. Many cooperations aimed
to reduce competition through the use of horizontal and vertical integration. Vertical integration is the
combination of all phases of production into one organization. Horizontal integration is the
combination of competitors into one organization in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is the INDUSTRIAL SYSTEM and not the boss which must be changed? . She argued that it was not
industrialization but corruption and the actions of the bosses that created this situation consisting of
unfair treatment of workers (To Tramps the unemployed, the disinherited and miserable, 1884). In
addition, many were discriminated against even in society. The Chinese Exclusion Act demonstrates
the racism that still existed in American society during this time period. It stated, the coming of
Chinese laborers to the United States be, and the same is hereby suspended (United States At Large).
At first immigrants were needed to fuel industrialization, but once the United States believed there
were enough they limited their immigration and unfairly excluded the

Introduction Content Films such as Casino Royale and Mission Impossible are both culturally significant to how people s general opinions of spies and the profession of espionage. Ian Flemings Bond movies are the longest running film series ever and this helps the perception and opinions of the films to be passed on from generation to generation. So far six actors have taken on the role of James Bond and all were significant super fit good looking and popular actors. This only helps to increase the popularity of the films and now that the cinema is public it means people of all ages go to watch these films with family and friends. Many films and actors have taken on similar storylines and characters to that of the Bond films such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Purpose The purpose of espionage related films is mainly to entertain. They do this by using various different signs that appeal to different audiences such as the use of gadgets and expensive sports cars to attract the male and boys. It is items such as this that make these films so popular among young boys. They want to be like James Bond when they grow up because of the fancy mission destination and the 5 star luxury hotels and apartments. Many are attracted by the various outrageous stunts that both the goodies and baddies pull off. Young girls often aspire to be bond girls because of the glamorous and seemingly faultless lifestyle that they lead. The adults watching become interested as many of the films have a storyline based around political disasters and breakdowns. Development Casino Royale is introduced in Prague, then in Uganda and later Madagascar. This is again one of the reasons why espionage is so popular, there is a lot of travel involved and visiting different countries. We are introduced to the main character Bond (played by Daniel Craig) strait away and a few minutes later the main villain is introduced. Throughout the opening scenes Bond comes across as a very professional individual. He is also very intelligent, quick thinking and physically fit. He seems to be quite isolated and that will be part of his job, not to make too close ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Life Of Charlemagne Analysis Einhard (c. 770 840) was a renowned monk, scholar, and writer of Frankish descent. Although regarded highly for many achievements, the most important contribution of his lifetime was the uncharacteristically secular Life of Charlemagne, which has since become a topic of great discussion and scrutiny. Many contemporary historians criticize Einhard s biography about the mighty Frankish ruler on the basis that it seems to be biased towards painting a near perfect picture of Charlemagne s reign as king and eventually emperor. There definitely seems to be a one sided view present, taking into consideration some of the opening statements Einhard prefaces his biography with: Charles, that most excellent and deservedly most famous king, and, Here ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the biography was reminiscent of Suetonius s Lives of the Caesars, Einhard did develop a unique literary style all his own, which would go on to inspire Bishop Asser s Life of Alfred the Great and biographies of Louis the Pious. This technique provided a stark contrast to the hagiographic writings characteristic of the time. Although Charlemagne was certainly represented as a pious Christian man, Einhard didn t want this to comprise all of what made Charle s a great king. He wished for his greatness to be represented as a more personal characteristic, instead of a Christian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These two weapons are nuclear atomic bombs, and they also ended World War II. The Manhattan Project was responsible in manufacturing these weapons. On October 11th, 1939 Alexander Sachs (a scientist) went to President Franklin Roosevelt and discussed Albert Einstein s letter. The president thought it was a good idea, so he started funding the project. This project was known as the Manhattan Project. Bradley makes use of historical incidents and real people. He also draws inspiration from other texts. This is called intertextuality. Okonkwo s second wife had merely cut a few leaves off it to wrap some food, and she said so. Without further argument Okonkwo gave her a sound beating and left her and her only daughter weeping. • 16. Pearl Harbor Attack In 1945, the United States had declared war on Japan after they had attacked Pearl Harbor. Since Japan was an island, the U.S. wouldn t be able to directly attack them. It was too far away for an air raid and naval raids would be too predictable and wouldn t work. So, the United States had to think of a way to attack the Japanese. They decided that since the Japanese were still fighting against other countries, they could attack the smaller islands surrounding Japan. The U.S. thought that these islands would be less defended by the Japanese. The United States felt like they could use these islands to provide a strong area for attacks on the Japanese mainland. This counter offensive attack was known as the island hopping campaign. The United States were led by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz and Douglas MacArthur. An island that the U.S. was strongly looking at was Iwo Jima. Iwo Jima already had 3 airstrips on it, so they saw it as the perfect place to attack. Iwo Jima was an island located about 810 miles south east of Japan. It was part of an island chain called the Japanese Volcano Islands. It measures about 5 miles long and has an area of about 8 square miles, which is about 8,000 times smaller than Wisconsin. It ranges from 800 yards to 2.5 miles in width. Iwo Jima was widely known for a volcano called Mount Suribachi. • 17. Importance Of School Counseling According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), Today s school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development, ensuring today s students become the productive, well adjusted adults of tomorrow (2017). The definition of a school counselor has changed throughout the years. There has been a shift from guidance/vocational counseling to a more well rounded approach. Moving from guidance to counseling, means different job duties and educational obstacles. Not only do the job responsibilities include career development, social/emotional development, and academic achievement; included in this change is focus on student s mental health. With the advancement of this career to the mental health field, comes with educating stakeholders on the difference. One way to do this is by producing evidence that counseling techniques work in a language that most stakeholders understand: academics. The money a public school receives correlates largely with achievement. If the students do well academically, the school becomes more attractive. Salaries are better; therefore, more qualified teachers apply and communities become more enticing to tax paying citizens. Just the opposite, schools that perform poorly academically have higher poverty level, lower teacher experience, and less money paid per student by the state in which it resides. All of this ... Think about this question while considering the objectives of the company s evaluation/compensation system, what measures it took, and what happened as a result. A. Nordstrom was renowned for its superior customer service that was the result of the exceptional customer service efforts (or heroics ) put by their salespeople. So in order to retain their competitive advantage of superior customer service in the highly competitive retailing market, they designed a evaluation/compensation system that had the following objectives: (1) To support its high service strategy, and (2) To motivate its sales employees. Employees were not clear about recording time spent in activities such as hand deliveries, merchandise preparation, sales promotion and customer correspondence, etc. as Selling or Non Selling time. If they recorded it as Non Selling work time, they were entitled to the guaranteed base wage with no effect in their SPH. However, if they recorded it as Selling work time, their SPH would be low. The evidence of this ambiguity in defining the Selling and Non Selling time is presented by the fact that the Nordstrom family had to issue the Internal Memo Differentiating Selling vs. Non Selling Time amidst the labor disputes crisis in mid 1989. (3) No evaluation/compensation service/satisfaction of work time related to customer There was no evaluation/compensation of work time related to activities for improving customer service/satisfaction such as home deliveries, calling up valued customers 2/6 informing them of newly arriving merchandises, helping customers with their sales, writing thank you notes, etc. So the system lacked in providing motivation for employees to perform such activities and also did not compensate the employees ... • 20. The Long Tail Of Underachievement Essay Education systems are expressly set up to help achieve quality of opportunity and outcome(APA) , but question is, are they? Statistic s put out by the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) showed our 9 year olds were ranked 34th out of 53 countries effectively bottom equal with other developing nations along with a whole lot of unforgiving data findings (Johnston, 2015). Social inequality has a much bigger role to play in the long tail of underachievement . It is common knowledge that in New Zealand the gap between the wealthy and the poor has widened enormously over the past two decades (APA). To analyses this dilemma we need to look at the defection of socioeconomic status. Max Weber formed the term socioeconomic status (SES): An individual s or group s position within hierarchical social structure. Socioeconomic status depends on a combination of variables, including occupation, education, income, wealth, and place of residence (APA). I will shed some light on answering this question and to also look at historical issues relating to socioeconomic status and New Zealand s education. I will also mention some solutions that have put forward, to provide opportunities for all children in New Zeland. From where it all began, the first contact with Pakeha in the late 1700s and early 1800s, was largely on Maori terms. The film contains two narratives, a live action documentary of the history of textile mills in the United States and a cartoon drama about people dealing with the struggles typical in the early years of this industry. Although they are interwoven with each other in the film, these narratives will be summarized separately in this essay for the sake of clarity, first the documentary section, and second, the cartoon, but reflected upon as a unit to better focus on the impact of the film as a whole. The documentary section details the evolution of technology in the era and its impact on society, beginning with a description of what things were like in the United States prior to the appearance of mills, noting that everything had to be done manually. In New England, the creation of clothing typically involved shearing sheep for their wool, followed by cleaning and carding the wool, making it into slivers, spinning the slivers into thread, and weaving the thread into cloth, and sewing the pieces of cloth together into clothing. Tools such as the loom and spinning wheel aided in the process, but they had to be operated manually. Water wheels had previously been used to power the grinding of grain. Eventually, in Europe, they also came to be used to power machines that handled carding, then machines called water frames that spun multiple slivers at once, thus drastically increasing the production of yarn. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout. Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog, they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it. The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex character. At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and destroys, but later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as himself usually does not display. God tells us his plans for us are good. We trust and believe in him so we trust and believe our futures are filled with greatness. Pride is a sin and brings humans misery in both Essay on Man and The Bible. In Essay on Man, Pope writes, In pride, in reasoning pride, our error lies (2717.1.123). Being prideful is a fault that humans possess. Man is always trying to gain more knowledge and try to reach perfection. Perfection cannot be achieved so this pride actually ... • 40. 8th November Analysis During the course of this analytical essay it can be shown that the two pieces, 8th November and (We ll Be Singing Hallelujah) Marching through Berlin, express emotions and replicate the soldiers memories of during and after the wars through the use of musical elements. It can be established that the first song, 8th November reflects the Vietnam War, through the use of Dynamics, Pitch and Timbre. Similarly, the second piece evaluated and analysed, (We ll Be Singing Hallelujah) Marching through Berlin also utilises the musical elements of Dynamics, Pitch and Timbre to reflect emotions and memories of past and present soldiers. The wars that these songs are about, the Vietnam War (occurring between the years 1955 and 1975, involving many countries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are 5 different chords used in 8th November, being, A, G, D, D/F# and F3. These chords change through the verse to the chorus and back again and also alter slightly in the intro (same and the break down chorus). This specific chord progression can be easily learnt so soldiers and other performers may be able to learn and play in front of an audience. There is both a melody and a harmony between the two vocalists, Big Kenny and John Rich, and the instruments, which is easy to recognise and remember. The melody of 8th November is mostly in steps4, also adding to why it is considered a conjunct song, but also involves a few leaps5 making small sections of the piece disjunct. The guitar riff is repeated throughout the song making it Ostinato, or the same note pattern. The melodic elements of this song make it have a minor tonality or a sadder tone to it. The contour6 of this piece is undulating as it is smooth as it progresses. There is also a harmony in 8th November which is between the two vocals of Big Kenny and John Rich. The consonant sounds between the vocalists are mainly heard in the chorus, although there are a few harmonies during the verses. There are no dissonant (unstable notes or notes that cause a lot of tension, demanding to move onto a consonant sound) sounds or diagonance. This piece uses both major and minor chords and scales. Running Head: AN ASSESSMENT IN EARNEST Mental Health Counseling Profession Name of Student School History and Evolution By the end of World War II, various non medical, behavioral and cognitive approaches to psychotherapy surfaced, the growth of some being the impact of the Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963 (Pistole, 2002). The Fund provided funding for the development of community based mental health care programs with interdisciplinary teams (Weikel Palmo, 1989 as qtd in Pistole). This stimulated the growth of masters level mental health enrollments and careers. Many of the enrollees were trained in colleges of education and secured employment under different professional and paraprofessional titles in community settings, such as hospitals, private practice and community mental health care centers (Bech, 1999 as qtd by Pistole; Weikel Stickle as qtd in Pistole). But because they did not receive training under established disciplines, such as social work, psychology or psychiatry, they did not belong to a recognized professional organization. They were thus unqualified for traditional credentials and licensing. Simply said, they were not a visible professional sector (Pistole). They organized themselves into a grass roots movement, which, in July 1978, became the American Mental Health Counselors Association or AMHCA (Pistole, 2002). • 42. Why Should Magnetic Levitation Trains be Implemented in... Magnetic Levitation Trains Magnetic Levitation Trains, why should they be implemented in the United States? Whenever individuals talk about trains, a few ideas pop into one s mind. These include the railway tracks that provide runways for the wheels, the noise associated with them and the long heavy carriages that they pull. Utilizing the words Magnetic Levitation in relation to trains may seem like a peculiar idea. Why? Levitation can be described as the act of raising an object upward in relation with its lightness. Trains are known to be heavy. Magnetic levitation, which is also known as Maglev, is a rail technology that utilizes a special magnetized railway track to suspend a train on a magnetic cushion so that it can move freely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The alternating current induces a shifting magnetic field, which creates different temporary poles at timed intervals. Due to the positioning of the semiconducting magnets and creation of the different electromagnetic forces, the like pole tend to push while the unlike poles attract, therefore, causing motion in the direction dictated by the alternating current (Funk and Getsla, 2006). Adoption of this technology in the United States of America would change the railway transportation system forever. Firstly, the Maglev trains do not produce any noise. This is because the technology does not incorporate wheels, bearings, axles and the metallic railway track (Livingston, 2011). The train is propelled by and kept on the guide way by the well coordinated magnetic forces acting within the semiconducting magnet and the coils. This means that the noise pollution caused by trains as they move from town to town would be eliminated (McMahon and Mora, 2010). Secondly, this technology does not cause any friction between the train and the track, therefore, allowing for smooth rides. As the train floats on the track, the friction and the unevenness of the conventional track are eliminated (Shadbolt, 2013).. This facilitates individuals to carry out various activities such as reading and working in a comfortable manner compared to the conventional trains. Adopting this technology will provide more comfort in the public transportation sector. Numerous services for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Taylor Dukes American Presidency Richard Skinner March 15, 2012 Eisenhower s Containment Through Action by Inaction During the Suez Canal Crisis The 1950 s demanded a certain kind of American President: one tranquil enough to reside over a post WWII society, and yet bold enough to propel the country through the Cold War. Though a description of Ike Dwight D. Eisenhower as a strong central leader heavily contradicts the construed image of a kindly grandfather figure, a bit inarticulate and above politics, a man who enjoyed golfing and trout fishing over the routine chores of running the government (Neff 37), it is certainly apt. Eisenhower s view that the way to prevent the spread of communism to the Middle East was by promoting stability in the region between both the Western powers and the Arab powers went on to guide his policy towards the Middle East. Eisenhower s goals for US involvement in the Middle East reflected the president s own cold war ideology and included promoting regional stability, guaranteeing the free flow of Middle Eastern oil to Western Europe, supporting Arab nationalism and Israeli independence, improving relationships with the Arab states, hastening the decline of European empires, maintaining the solidarity of the Western alliance, and avoiding an arms race between Israel and its Arab neighbors, with the United States and Russia the principal arms suppliers (Ambrose 328 329). The President s commitment to these goals of maintaining relationships and containing communism accounts for many of the trends that would characterize Eisenhower s conduct in the Middle East. Among these trends were: Eisenhower s reliance on frequent but informal consultations with a small number of appointees; his tendency to try and delay the inevitable for as long as possible as to allow for planning; his hesitation towards nearly any action, whether it be to take action or to cease taking action; his encouragement for vagueness and secrecy pertaining to the Crisis; and finally, his ability to firmly and effectively communicate his full executive power. It is the digital simulation of the game era before video games existed; as for it is trying to recreate the illusion of actually being part of the game instead of playing it on a flat monitor. A broad definition of Virtual Reality according to Steven LaValle is Inducing targeted behavior in an organism by using artificial sensory stimulation, while the organism has little or no awareness of the interference. He states that the player or the user is put in a situation that is made by the creator of this certain virtual environment so that the user feels as part of the simulated world and could hardly distinguish the artificially simulated world from reality. Moreover, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DeepMind technologies are trying to build an artificial intelligence (A.I.) system similar to the human mind, capable of carrying out the process of analysis and making decisions by itself. If this kind of A.I. will be applied to virtual reality games in the future, people will be able to play games by themselves in a virtual world with the semi human computers, completely isolated from any social relationships and interactions. The results that might proceed from this human machine interaction in a virtual world are all hypothetical, but one can guess that it might be similar to the isolation caused by the internet or video games. For example, as stated, Internet has spurred a phenomenon of social isolation which leads to reduced communication and intimacy with friends and family. Many people no longer need to venture from their homes in order to work or enjoy themselves. (Botella, Quero, and Baños 90). Virtual reality will not be much different, as for, the user will not feel the need to communicate with anyone in the real world, communication within the game with machines will be enough for him. Thus, people will become so involved in their activities in cyberspace, that they will, in turn, neglect their social and functional involvement in the real world (Albert, Schultheis and Rothbaum 19). They will feel satisfied with the social relations they experience in the virtual environment, therefore, leading to neglecting their relationships with actual people in the real world. Though their outcomes have varied considerably over the years, the main factors causing the U.S to stray from its ideals of freedom and equality have always been one or both of the following factors discrimination and war. During World War I, the Espionage Act of 1917 was used to jail prominent critics of American intervention in the war among them, Eugene V. Debs, four time presidential candidate (Ball, 146). Shortly after the war ended, A. Mitchell Palmer used the powers granted by the act to conduct mass arrests and deportation of hundreds of foreign residents (Emert, 54, 55, 56). During World War II, the federal government forcibly relocated thousands of Japanese Americans into what were essentially concentration camps (Cooper, 10, 11). The Japanese internment was implemented in the name of combating a virtually non existent military threat, for fear that Americans of Japanese descent might aid the Empire of Japan (Cooper, 63). After the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon and the declaration of the War on Terror, the USA PATRIOT Act was hurriedly conceived and passed into law (Ball, 38). Included in the law were provisions for roving wiretaps, the sharing of information between criminal probes and intelligence agencies and secret searches of private property in violation of the Constitution (Ball, 57, 74, 81).
