Morality and Dehumanization in One Day in the Life of...
The novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, presents moral issues, and daily dehumanization
of men living in a camp in Russia in 1951. Ivan Denisovich, the protagonist in the novel spoke out
against Stalin, and was then put in a prison camp because of it. The novel presents a terrible situation
in which Ivan must overcome daily circumstances, which only a person living in a prison camp would
know how to survive. The tone and mood of the novel are able to work together to show the theme of
the novel, that human self respect is achieved as long as one is still holding onto it. The extract that
was chosen occurs on the last page of the novel. Shukhov has just returned from being counted, and
helping out another Zek, Tsezar, whose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is on lines one through five. Now they released you faster, for they were counting
one by one. The word you in the above quotation, shows how either Shukhov or the narrator may have
been speaking in the quotation; showing the free indirect discourse. The free indirect discourse helps
show the bleak tone of the novel. The bleak tone of the novel communicates the theme; human self
respect is achieved as long as one is still holding onto it. Because the tone is bleak, the theme is more
emphasized through Shukhovs actions of holding his self respect. Whether it may be by holding onto
items of sentimental purpose, or hoping for a letter from his family. The mood of the novel also fits in
with the bleak tone. The dreary mood is seen through the tone, but goes deeper and describes the
emotions portrayed throughout the novel. The last paragraphs of the novel, lines 40 45, show the
dreary mood of the novel. A day without a dark cloud. Almost a happy day. There were three thousand
six hundred and fifty three days like that in his stretch. The quotation continues on, but from this
quotation one is able to notice the irony in it. That it may have been a happy day, but there are still so
many days to come that it is impossible to tell what those days will bring. The dreary mood is thus
demonstrated from the quotation. The

Disadvantages Of Lubricant
In a high precision machining operation, lubricant is extensively needed to remove the heat at the tool
workpiece interfaces. High heat is generated at the interface due to friction between the tool and the
workpiece, which can lead to a very poor workpiece surface quality and tool wear. For that reason,
report showed that approximately 320,000 tons of lubricant were used per year in the European Union
[1] proving the importance of lubricant in machining application. Lubricant is divided into three
categories that are neat oil, water soluble fluids, and gases [2], where the most common type of
lubricant in machining application is the water soluble fluids. This type of lubricant is made of water
mixed with oil with a certain ratio depending on the types of application being used. ... Show more

Lawal et al. [16] has done an evaluation on the performance of vegetable oil in turning process in
comparison to mineral oil. The investigation found that the vegetable oil surpass conventional oil in
water performance in turning process. Likewise, Babur et al. [17] have conclude that vegetable oil are
effective in producing better surface quality and tool wear than synthetic cutting fluids during turning
process. Nevertheless, improvement on the performance of vegetable oil can be done by utilising
powder particles such as MoS2, graphite, boric acid, etc. Improvement can be seen from using powder
particle aided lubricant in terms of surface finish, coefficient of friction, wear and cutting force [18].
This is because powder particle has lattice layered structure (Fig. 1), relatively high load carrying
capacity and low steady state coefficient of friction [19]. Moreover, powder particle such as boric acid
are environmentally friendly and do not pose threat to operational workers according to the
Environmental Protection Agency, which is desirable in creating a greener lubrication in machining
application

Who Is Hulu s Target Market
Companies always reshape their product to grow or to obtain their goal. Now multiple companies are
buying one another to get a better reach of their target market. The first article from Advertising Age
states that Hulu will stop offering TV shows for free. That is quite daunting for the users you range
from all ages especially millennials who are the main users. The streaming service is discarding its
free platform that provided streaming viewers with a library of hundreds of movies, TV shows, and
clips since 2007. Hulu s decision to terminate free streaming is a major step as it tries to gain more
traction against other streaming video sites, such as Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon. Hulu becomes a
lot more like Netflix by offering a monthly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is drastic because when Hulu was announced back in 2005 the cable companies weren t too happy
about another platform getting all the views. Now they are on board with cable cutting. And that new,
live TV service just got a ton more channels: CNN, TBS, Cartoon Network, TNT, and more. Not a bad
haul! Alongside that buy in is the guarantee of Time Warner s many TV channels and the content they
produce to Hulu s live TV offering. Time Warner is far from the first major TV content creator to hook
up with Hulu s live TV service. NBCUniversal, Disney, and Fox are all in talks with Hulu to offer
channels on the new service. There are still lots of questions about the new service, like when exactly
it will launch and how much it ll cost. Rumors put the service at between $30 and $40/month, with an
expected launch in early 2017. The two articles are related because they depict Hulu s future and their

Analysis Of Plato s Republic And Aristotle s Nicomachean...
Upon application for university, hearts are heavy with the uncertainty for the future. An overwhelming
hope to become the person we are meant to be. This journey, called university, provides the inverse; a
worldly creation where past and future are intertwined. A place for discovery. A place of reflection.
Leisure, sport and recreation are culpable in cultivating thyself in preparation for true reflection,
whose telos is knowledge of thyself. This paper will explore this notion of the journey to true
reflection through various historical and present day ideologies. Context will be provided via personal
experiences of each phase, as the yellow brick road, leading up to reflection. Only then, true
discoveries of thyself can be uncovered. Leisure, sport, and recreation provide the opportunity for
growth of mind and body. Both Plato s Republic and Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics conceptualize
this growth through games and sport. What is meant by growth? What is development in relation to
the self? Once sufficiently developed, leisure, sport, recreation become agents for one to experience
thyself in relation to others. Here, socio spatial boundaries become other dimensional and the self
becomes a collection of photos. What does it mean to be an individual? What identity does the
individual give to their community? Pat Power s notions or creative play, Luc Robene and Dominique
Bodin, among many philosophers, thoroughly explore this interconnectivity that distinguishes the

the corn snake. I ve heard of constrictors like pythons but i didn t know that corn snakes where
constrictors too. They re actually extremely interesting if you like snakes. Corn snakes have very long
lifespans, a specific environment, and they go through brumation.
Where the corn snake is depends on how long it lives and how it behaves. In the wild a corn snake can
live anywhere between 6 8 years. In captivity they can live up to 23 years with the proper care. Their

Personal Narrative On Playball
It was a hot summer day in Hammond, Louisiana and I was pouring down sweat like I had just
jumped in a pool. The game was just about to begin, me and my team was eagle eyeing the bomb
squad. It was so quiet that you could hear your own sweat hitting the bench. The umpire broke up
everyone s concentration by saying, play ball ! The defense had ran out on the field and I started
rolling ground balls from 2nd to short stop to third base. They had all made good throws back to me
and then I threw the ball into the dug out because the game had begun. Nate had threw the first pitch.
Wackk. They had hit the ball right back to me and I ran touched first base. I threw the ball back to
Nate to pitch it again and Crack They had hit a sky rocket and it can soring down like and eagle. Let
me be honest I was actually kind of scared to catch that pop fly. 2 outs we just need one more to go hit

Essay about Drug Testing For Missouri Welfare Recipients
On 30 January 2011, the Missouri House of Representatives passed a bill and sent it to the senate that
would require drug testing for those receiving state Temporary Assistance for Needy Family (TANF)
funds. Funding from food stamps, medicare, and public housing would not be affected by this bill
(Keller House). According to Columbia Tribune reporter Rudi Keller, the bill is very similar to the
Arizona law which is the only other state that tests welfare recipients. Missouri and Arizona would use
a questionare and interview which would determine which applicants to test. The two states are also
similar in their caseload of 45,017 people on assistance in Arizona and 42,885 in Missouri. The state
would not be obligated to provide treatment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Keller s article, the law would protect children. It would discourage parents from using
drugs which would create a better home environment. It would also ensure that state money would be
used for supporting families, not recreational drugs (Keller). Rep. John McCaherty said The bill will
show the state expects TANF recipients to be responsible with public money. (Qtd. in Keller). The
idea behind those that support this legislation is that the state is responsible for ensureing that taxpayer
s money doesn t ultimately end up buying illegal substances and drug testing is an effective means to
ensure this. As with all political issues, there are those on the other side of the fence. People oppose
this legistlation for various reasons: from constitutionality to cost. According to a study done by the
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), welfare recipients are no more likely to use drugs.
Furthermore, placing a requirement to be tested may place a stigma upon those receiving welfare
which would be counterproductive to their relief (Drug Testing). An editorial by Henry Waters in the
Columbia Daily Tribune, the bill is the government attempting to punish a class of people who are
presumed worthless (Waters). Another reason people oppose this legislation is the cost. The ACLU
study reports the average cost of a drug test at $42 per person. There are less invasive and cheaper
methods to

Master Harold And The Boys Character Analysis
In Master Harold and the Boys, Hally s crippled father never appears on stage, instead, the closest
thing to him talking is through the telephone conversations. However, Hally s father still has a huge
impact on the play as his roles in the play include creating tension through the phone conversations
and his relationship with his son also brings about the bond between Hally and the servants. In
addition, he symbolizes the conflict of apartheid in South Africa back then.
One of Hally s father s role in the play is acting as a dramatic device. His telephone conversations
with Hally alters the mood and creates tension in the play. Before the telephone conversation
regarding his dad, the mood of nostalgia was in the air as Hally and Sam recalled the kite flying
memory. However, after Hally has a frustrating phone call regarding his father, the mood immediately
changes with Hally saying, (seething with irritation and frustration) Tell me something I don t know,
Sam. What the hell do you think I was saying to my Mom? (P.34) This quote is where Hally takes out
his anger and irritation by snapping at Sam, and in doing so, creating tension between the characters.

the core of this play by serving as a device to let events unfold and also, he brings focus on

Fair Trade Vs. Free Trade
Fair Trade vs. Free Trade
The economic systems free trade and fair trade in like manner apply Foucault s triangle of power and
totalitarian knowledge. Specifically, I will analyze what negative effects the lack of subjugated
knowledge causes within these system s foundations and their future betterment through Foucault s
lessons. As a rule, most of the evil in this world is done by people with the best intentions (T.S. Eliot).
On October 1947, 23 nations in Geneva signed the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade GATT .
This liberated international trade and businesses to begin foreign production investing. The
aforementioned agreement was tremendous for the economy. Numerous countries are Free Trade
countries, including the U.S. Within free trade, goods, capital and services flow unhindered between
nations, without barriers, which would hinder the speed of trading processes. There are no earning
ceilings; citizens from free trade countries may secure as much money as they have the ability to earn,
within the confines of the law. Max Havelaar founded the fair trade model in 1988 under the initiative
of the Dutch development agency Solidaridad. And the current face of fair trade, Fairtrade Labelling

Fair trade organizations under one umbrella and to set worldwide standards and certification.

The Effect Of Big Data On Public Health By Government Of...
In this part I have selected to discuss about the use of big data in public health by Government of
India, as I have worked there. In recent years there is a rapid expansion in generation and use of data.
Although in health sector there has been an increase in production of data, but little use of data have
seen to improve health care. Mostly all of the data at individual level like medical history, doctor s
prescription, pathology reports, diagnostic images etc. and some data at community level like hospital
admission statistic, vital statistics etc. goes waste and are not used for further analysis and reference.
Despite a very rapid use of various electronic system in public health, the interconnection between
different data set is not present for taking out implications from them. Data set can be within health
system or between health and other systems. But these isolated data sets cannot help any organization
or a country to know how individual health is effected by other system like environmental or social.
As it is very well known fact that health is a social construct. To utilize this concept, Durham, North
Carolina had successfully linked health system and social and environmental data via shared
geography to provide a multidimensional understanding of individual and community health. And
aimed to improve health care, improve overall health of the population and reduce per capita costs of
health. By pooling census data, tax payments and lead concentrations

Institutional Systems And The Selection Pressures Of...
There are various institutional systems that are part of our world. Population, production, regulation,
distribution and reproduction are all forces that create potential problems that lead to the creation of
institutional systems. In other words, institutional systems are created because of the given selection
pressures. The main goal of any institution is to provide solutions for selection pressures, many of
them can even help to resolve multiple issues. For example, when it is needed to reproduce
biologically and culturally, the institution of kinship aids to resolve the pressures of reproduction. In
the same way, when it is needed to regulate the individuals in society, religion could help fulfill the
selection pressures of regulation. Education, like kinship, helps to reproduce culturally and also
regulate the roles of individuals. Just like these three institutions, the others also play a role in
resolving other selection pressures. Kinship, religion and education, however, will be the main focus
of this paper given that they are the institutions that mainly aid to the selection pressures of
reproduction, population and regulation. Kinship is the institution that resolves the issue of
reproduction (until the population gets large). As stated previously, a society needs to reproduce
biologically, social structurally and culturally. The explanation that Turner provides for kinship is that
it allows marriage and blood ties organized into structures and mediated by

Does Better Living And Citizenship Drive Immigrants Help...
Question: Does better living and citizenship drives immigrants to obtain more qualifications than local
citizens? An analysis of the UK. Introduction A persistent trend in the growth rate of immigrants to the
UK has been observed since the 1950s and that caters for a diverse ethnic society (Bell 1997).
Simultaneously, we ve seen a sharp rise in those participating in any form of qualification/education
and this is most prominent for those obtaining higher education qualifications. (Dolton, Silles 2008)
However, in some cases there seems to be a drive to obtaining more qualifications than others and this
sometimes results in over qualification, a phenomena many have accounted for providing its
determinants, the extent of its existence (Battu, Seaman, Sloane, 1999) and how it affects the returns
for those in the labour market that fall into this category of over educated (Sicherman, 1991).
Although previous studies have lightly focused on how over education affects earnings, studies either
focus on the US labour market (Rumberger 1987) or when they do focus on the UK, its effect are
assessed only for ethnic minorities. (Lindley 2009). A focus on an aggregated scale of all races will
supplement the literature where I intend to test whether immigrants are likely to be more over
qualified than UK born citizens and then compare the effect on earnings for each of the two
observation groups. Furthermore, having obtained a result on over qualification, I will proceed to

Herzberg s Motivation Theory
Motivation is one of the internal essentials of life; in other words simply no one can live without
motivation. Motivation helps all living organism in the process of achieving their goals or targets. For
example all professional athletes target is to be the best at what they do; one factor that distinguishes
between wanting something and actually reaching it is the stimulus that moves the living organisms to
do a certain action in order to reach their target or goal, which also could be defined as motivation.
The second example is about animals where motivation is also an important factor in their lives. The
most probable targets of animals are related to their basic instincts and their basic needs; as a small
example of that is food which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eisenhower s statement Motivation is getting people to do what you want them to do because they
want to do it. (Achim, Dragolea, Balan, 2013) Motivation is art; it is also a power that affects people

performing such a process in a company; it is favorable for the company to know the possibilities and
ways of reasoning that would work for each employee according to their targets and parts of interests;
then the company would easily desire more and more from those whom they managed to motivate,
moreover this process will always work in the benefit of both companies and employees. Motivation
is one of the most important things that the human resources department in any company must show a

The Relationship Between Grey Levels And Hounsfield Units...
Studies in the mentioned disciplines can be broadly divided into two levels namely physical and
computational level. Due to the cost of physical development, the tendency for the computational
aspects has been raised. Technical parameters of scanners include Cycle time, spatial resolution, low
contrast resolution, uniformity, linearity, slice thickness, computed tomography dose index (CTDI),
and pitch cite{duan2017computed}. Mah et al. cite{mah2010deriving} investigate the relationship
between grey levels and Hounsfield units (HU) in cone beam CT (CBCT) scanners. To do so, a
phantom of 8 different materials was created and imaged with different CBCT scanners. The phantom

The projection sub systems of CT scanners has experienced changes in 3 aspects including parallel,
fan, and cone beam systems cite{sidky2008image} cite{vo2014reliable}. Sidky and Pan
cite{sidky2008image} proposed a theoretical framework to show how accurate circular cone beam
CT image reconstruction can be done from reduced data sampling. In data acquisition phase, they
assumed that the estimated projection data is within a specified tolerance of the available data and the
values of voxels are non negative. To observe these constraints, a projection onto convex sets was
considered, and the total variation (TV) gets minimized by steepest descent with an adaptive step size.
They argued that the TV algorithm can resolve low contrast structures in the presence of high contrast
objects even when the projection data sets are limited in angular range or view number, and when the
low contrast object is not at the mid plane of the circular x ray trajectory. Qi and Chen
cite{zhihua2008direct} considered image reconstruction in fan beam based CT in which the derived
formula applies to the real domain. First, inverse Fourier transform was applied to use the
multiplication instead of convolution in Fourier space. Afterward, the range of calculation was
extended to cover redundancy. This method is subject to observing full circle scan in data acquisition
mode.

Musician Career Information
This paper will discuss the career information concerning musicians and singers. It will also cover
degree requirements, as well as prospective job growth. Musicians work in a field that is quite
different from most other occupations. These differences will be discussed as well.
Musician Career Information Musicians play or sing music. Regardless of genre, musicians perform in
a wide variety of venues. These range from bars and clubs, to opera houses and stadiums. While some
musicians may join a specific band or group, others may become session or studio musicians. These
musicians tend to be for hire, specifically for recording parts, or for back up in performances.
The career path of musicians and singers is quite different than typical occupations. Musicians and
singers are not required to have any technical degrees. This does not make it an entry level career by
any means. Musicians often begin playing or singing as children, and practice very often. Though a
degree is not necessary, above average ability is. In the classical realm, most musicians have at least a
bachelor s degree, as it may be required. The schooling trains players in music theory and history, as
well as the practice and technique of their instrument. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to become an amateur musician, and a higher skill level is usually required. Even after an occupation
has been established, it will be further necessary to practice daily. Competition is extremely high in
this field, and the job growth is

sound from a faulty pilot light. This sound is caused by excessive gas building up in the furnace when
trying to light. When the pilot light finally does work, the gas ignites and actually creates a small
explosion in your furnace. This is the type of sound that is not normal and will require professional

indication that the air filter is clogged. Air is trying to find its way through the small unclogged places
of the air filter and creating a whistling sound in the process. Fixing this sound is as simple as

The Tragedy Of The Iranian Hostage Crisis
There was once time of prosperity and hope in this great nation. A time where it seemed that nothing
could go wrong and a time that America seemed to be on top of the world as a powerhouse; however,
by the late 1970 s, that time was no more. America went from an economic powerhouse to a country
struggling to survive. America went from the land of the free and the home of the brave to citizens
having no identity of patriotism following the Vietnam War. America went from doing the attacking
and righting the wrong in the world, to being harassed and taken advantage of. This harassment is told
through David Farber s novel, Taken Hostage, which details the hostage takeover that involved sixty
six American citizens who had to endure 444 agonizing days of being taken hostage because America
was no longer in control. During the time of the Iranian hostage crisis, Americans were held back by
the tragedy for numerous reasons, many of which stem from the immediate reaction of combined
shock and frustration towards the United States Government and President Carter, a lack of
knowledge of the ongoing strained relationship between the two countries, and finally, the surprising
tension and ineffectiveness of the Carter Administration s foreign policy.
In the months leading up to the hostage crisis, the morale and patriotism expressed by the American
people was gloom and not promising for the nation; Especially in the last years of the decade, it was
mainly just hard times (Farber, 10).

The Sun Also Rises Modernism Analysis
During the early twentieth century, the philosophical and artistic movement of Modernism permeated
the world of literature. Thusly, Modernism, as a philosophy, is defined through the loss of traditional
values and meaning in life; men, women and all people are isolated and alone, unable to fully
communicate through language. Modernist writers portray the world as a harsh and unjust place in
which their characters struggle alone with unrealistic and futile dreams. With this in mind, The Sun
Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway is a novel that details the story of Jacob Barnes and his circle of
friends. Most of the friends, including Jake, are World War I veterans who have been harshly afflicted
by their experiences in the war and heavily indulge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jake tries to be a good Catholic; he goes to the Cathedral and he prays in a very scattered way, first for
his friends, then bullfighters, then money, and then his mind wanders onto other subjects. Jake tries to

prayer is choppy. He does not usually go to church nor does he usually pray. Jake does not feel
religious, and this is what he deduces makes him such a rotten Catholic. He regrets this notion and this
is a symptom of a much larger problem for Jake: he craves authenticity and spirituality and innocence,
but he has been corrupted by the great war. It took not only his fertility but also his spiritual potency.
Further proof of his desire for spiritual authenticity and purity is when he sees Pedro Romero, the
young, talented, and captivating young Spanish bullfighter, in a bullfight. Jake

Sternberg s Triarchic Theory Of Human Intelligence
Sternberg s Triarchic Theory of Human Intelligence
History of the Intelligence Theory
The history of Sternberg s Triarchic Theory of Human Intelligence can be traced back to 1977, 1985,
and 1995. Robert Sternberg s principal proponent of this intelligence theory. He developed the theory
when he was teaching at the Yale University. His aim was to establish how education could enhance
creative intelligence (experiential), analytical intelligence (componential), and the practical
intelligence (contextual). The analytical component helps students to break down the problem, process
the information, and solve it. Analytical skills are essential since they help the student to compare
different social issues and make an informed conclusion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Research supporting the validity of the theory.
There have been several studies that seek to test the validity and reliability of the Sternberg s Triarchic
Theory. In one study Sternberg (2000), examined how the method of delivery of content in school
affected academic performance. The conducted study was in Raleigh, North Carolina and another one
in Baltimore, Maryland, and Fresno, California. The student sample in Raleigh, North Carolina was
mostly from low income families, totaling 225. The other sample was of students from middle to
upper middle class families, totaling 142. The test involved teaching by using three primary methods.
In the first one, students had no interventions with the teaching, with the main purpose was to
memorize. In the second group was taught how to analyze the information. In the final group had
applied the analytical, creativity, and practical strategies for the teaching. The students tested, and the
last group (infused creativity, analytical, and practical interventions) outperformed the rest. Similar
studies have same yield results, which demonstrates the validity of Sternberg s Triarchic Theory of

Research Paper On Civic Engagement
First Civic Engagement Project
In the article named Civic Education and Political Participation . At beginning the author said that he

young people believed in America s principle and in America dream. They are patriotic, tolerant and
compassionate. And they said they want to volunteer during college. But they always characterize
their volunteering as an alternative to official political. They have limit knowledge of government s

Floating Disk Assay Lab
Investigating the temperature effect on rate of oxygen production for the enzyme catalase in the
Hydrogen Peroxide Reaction using Floating Disk assay Experiment
Figures:
Table 1: This is the raw data collected for the measurement of time in seconds on the floating of the
disk assay in nine trials observing four different temperatures. Then, calculated the average, standard
deviation and 95% confidence interval.
Figure 1: This bar graph represents the rate of reaction based on the floating disks in seconds. It
displays the different comparisons between temperatures. It shows 95% confidence interval for error
bars.
Discussion:
When solutions are increased in temperature, there is more kinetic energy, and the molecules speed up
as they transition from liquids to gas. This increased movement of molecules, increases the collision
of molecules which, increases the rate of reactions (1). It was hypothesized that as the temperature of
the hydrogen peroxide increased that rate of reaction with the potato enzyme would increase until the
temperature caused the enzyme to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some possible errors would include inconsistent temperatures that varied by about five degrees,
because of opening the hot bath a lot of heat was lost, as well as, waiting till the end of lab to run the
cold trials so the ice was melted caused a increase of temperature. Human error was another aspect
that affected the data. Since the disk assay was based on observation of when the disk floated that data
probably was not accurate to the exact second to when the disk reached the top of the solution.
Another possible error is that the hydrogen peroxide was left out during the experiment for example
the cold solution was left out the majority of the period. Since hydrogen peroxide decomposes more in
light, this could have played a small role of increasing the reaction

Negative Impact On Graphic Design
In this day and age anything is possible, whereas just a few years ago all we had for creating graphics
were a pencil and paper. The fact that technology is evolving every second means that the way we
design, create and even advertise it is changed. Designer can go a long way, in many different
directions. Even though the innovations introduced have a major positive impact, they do have a
negative one as well. The fact that virtually anyone can use things like graphics tablets, graphics
software and online tutorials causes people to label themselves as graphics designers , and they re not
wrong. In the Digital Age anyone can call themselves that when buying Adobe and designing
something but in the real world they re actually not doing anything extra ordinary because anyone
with at least some creative skills can design, and the keep evolving technology makes it even easier to
DIY Do it yourself. It s becoming easier for amateurs to learn the skills that they need for basic design
. It has a bad impact on the creative industries because instead of asking a professional, you can ask a
friend or a person you know to design something for you, all for a really low price compared with
professional graphic designers. In the olden days it was a much bigger thing to be called a graphics
designer because in their age things like computers and especially computer programs weren t widely

Nuclear Weapons And The World War II
Nuclear weapons were a crucial aspect throughout the history of the Cold War. Scientific and military
development in the early 20th Century had demonstrated the potential of atoms and other properties to
create large scale nuclear weapons. The developments of the arms race within the context of World
War I and World War II further led to the emergence of nuclear weapons for combat. Countries such as
the United States, USSR, and Britain also sought to create effective nuclear weapons. Subsequently,
the major application of nuclear weapons emerged when the US dropped two atomic bombs at
Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. Whereas President Truman mainly sought to protect Americans
from further deaths by launching atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the USSR posed a
different question. Did Truman consciously drop the bombs to intimidate the USSR? Therefore, the
Soviet Union interpreted the use of these nuclear weapons as an anti Soviet move. This further set the
basis of the Cold War and the nuclear arms race between the two countries. In this case, the United
States use of nuclear weapons in the Second World War was crucial to intimidate the USSR and its
emerging global dominance to set the foundation for the emergence of the Cold War.
The rapid surrender and destruction of Japan was a clear indication that the US had managed to
become a global leader in weapons development. However, there was also more reason to suspect the
real reasons for the use of nuclear weapons in

promised America a new deal . When Roosevelt took office in March 1933, in the height of the Great
Depression, he brought the New Deal and with it he brought back hope to the American people.

At its peak in 1935, the WPA employed 460,000 women. However, prior to the involvement of First

Federal Emergency Relief Administration, New Deal programs almost exclusively focused on men. In
addition to this, there were now women in positions of power within the government such as Mary

As an architect in a Catholic school, the principal bears the load of responsibility for setting the tone
for each school year and as an architect of Catholic culture, is to connect the school s core values and
beliefs to Christ and the Gospel intentionally, deliberately, and continually. (Cook, 2001, p. 20) The
principal, being the spiritual leader of the school, helps support the Catholic school s mission and the

The Importance Of Earthquakes And The Internal Structure...
Earthquakes are naturally reoccuring ecological patterns. In a sense, they re the Earth s natural means
of releasing stress and energy as a result of plate movement under the surface. Over thousands of
years, like many other ecological behaviors, seismic activities have compelled scientists to study
countless records of their impact in the natural world and in human civilization. They ve also shaped
the way we ve lived relevant to our environments, designed our very continents, and are revealing to
us insights of how the world is made up. In this essay, research and discussion will highlight the
importance of earthquakes in earth systems, the relationship between earthquakes and the internal
structure of the Earth, and issues or debate being brought up in the scientific community about it.
Earthquakes are a very important subject of environmental and geological research. Despite their
potential for destruction, they can be an aid for science (Shipman; Wilson; Higgins; Torres, 2015). The
techniques required to map the interior of the Earth need a source of waves, strong enough energy to
penetrate, the ability to generate these waves continuously in places that will penetrate the area of
interest, and the ability to detect the resulting reflected and refracted waves when they emerge (Tulane
University, 2015). Similar to how we use light, sound, radio, magnetic, and other waves to judge the

Globalized populations heavily rely on ecosystems but allow non ecosystem services to take priority.
In the past hundred years human and ecological systems have undergone large transformations due to
globalization and weathering affects. The world s most valued resources are becoming increasingly
scarce. The growth in population has changed the supply and demand of both ecosystem and non
ecosystem services (Cumming, 2014). Urbanization has created a trend of creation rather than using or

Topsoil continues to be eroded away, while water is wastefully used because the source seems so
abundant. As globalization values an economic stance, considering vital resources in monetary
amounts can allow for further conservation. In an attempt to place greater value on these necessities,
considering resources as ecosystem services places a monetary value on natural sources.
Background
The preservation of ecosystems resources is essential to sustain and provide for life forms. Both soil
and water are rich, complex ecosystems, which support living and non living matter. Soil plays a great
role in supporting large concentrations of people on the planet (Montgomery). It has played a part in
helping society to progress through infrastructure development and agricultural growth however can
determine the faith of modern civilization. The existence of soil is essential if human activity is to
continue. Human activity adds a wide variety of substances to the environmental, which soils can
decompose. Soil plays a central role in the management, processing and detoxification of natural and
human created waste. In soil countering the actions of humans, it is continuously under appreciated.
To sustain life forms including human populations water is heavily relied on. Water appears to be an
abundance source however; little conservation is had for the commodity. There are no alternatives to
the source yet saving the resource is not an action deeply practiced

Analysis Of Herbert Marcuse s One Dimensional Man
Herbert Marcuse, a Frankfurt philosopher, wrote his book One Dimensional Man in the 1960 s during
at the height of the Cold War. The book One Dimensional Man was both influential and highly critical
of modern industrial capitalism and as Marcuse believed, its subsequent exploitation of people and
nature, as well as its contribution to modern consumer culture and new forms of social control. One
Dimensional Man offers an analysis of the new state of consumerism during the 1960 s through a
critical lens. This essay will focus on One Dimensional Man as I explore his view that technological
development, alienated labour and consumerism have distorted affluent societies in creating false
needs as well as perpetuating unfairness through various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, he never addresses what the standards are for defining what is true and false. He also argues
that it is the individual who must ultimately decide this, but at the same time, the individual does not
have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of false needs results in one
dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to think critically is
compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in a flattening of discussion, critic and
independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent thought is
becoming blurred with the influence of consumer culture. The ability for those within an advanced
industrial society to reason between two dimensions (Marcuse, H. 1968), in other words, to look at an
industrial society characterised by labour and waste while still acknowledging technological progress,
and to imagine a form of living that uses technology to aid nature rather than perpetuate poverty and
oppression within the society. Why do false needs exist? they are a means of making money.
Consumers think they are free to choose what product they want to purchase, Marcuse calls this
deceptive liberty (Marcuse, H. 1968, p.9). The façade of liberty to choose what to do and buy. It is

Informative Speech On Horse Therapy
Hello class, as you may know by now my name is Peighton Davis and I have a passion for horses and
I wanted to learn more of the ways horses can help you. For the past couple of weeks I have been
looking into horse therapy also known as Equine Therapy. So, I decided my Genius Hour question
would be, What is Equine Therapy and how does it help people ?
Before we jump into the main question, let s jump back to where it all started. Horse therapy dates
back to around 600 b.c when the greeks rode horses for therapy. Later, in around 1946 equine therapy
then was introduced in Scandinavia. Which then led to the North Americans beginning the
handicapped riding which started around 1969. They soon recognized that riding horses or just being

react to the handler s behavior and emotional status. Horses aren t there to judge your appearance or
what happened to the you in the past they are just there to help in the present. Most people like this
option because some people believe that they will be judged by a human therapist doctor and most of
the patients know that the horses won t judge them on what they look like or been through. This helps
people build self esteem and self confidence. Through the years children and adults who participate
riding programs improve in physical and social function. Studies have shown that therapeutic riding
has shown positive outcomes that change people s lives for the better. Some have been able to gain the
function to walk and talk better then before or even for the first time. This is because of the
socializing, movement, and the need for balance on a horse. Through movement with the horse and
the interaction with the people that work there, children and adults also have improved in other things
such as physical function, emotional stability and social interactions. Challenging activities help gain
more balance and control, and posture as the horses shows the motivation towards the

Need Replacement Windows? Why You Should Select Vinyl

that was there previously, so you can ditch the wood windows and go with something more practical.
Vinyl windows may not have the same aesthetics of wood windows, but they can provide many
benefits that make them the better choice in the end.

window after installation. If you have 7 windows that you plan on replacing in your home, you could

Vinyl Windows Are Eligible For Rebates
When purchasing new windows, many homeowners forget to factor in the rebates that they can expect
to receive for this home upgrade. Vinyl windows do qualify for tax credits and rebates, since the
window will be energy efficient. The tax credit and rebate you receive depends on if the windows
have additional insulation and how many panes of glass are in them. If you are not sure, ask your
window contractor if they know which windows will offer the best rebates and tax incentives.
Vinyl Windows Are Maintenance Free
Many homeowners love vinyl windows because the material requires very little maintenance over the
years. There is no need to sand and paint the material like with wood, and the most that needs to be
done is to clean the material when it gets dirty. That said, you cannot change the color of vinyl
windows, which means you have to put some thought into the color you select before they are

Converting ° Fahrenheit And Fahrenheit
Converting °Fahrenheit to °Celsius and visa versa
The freezing point of water in Fahrenheit is 32 degrees, in Celsius it is 0 degrees.
The boiling point of water in Fahrenheit is 212 degrees, in Celsius it is 100 degrees.
Consequently the difference between freezing and boiling is 180 degrees Fahrenheit (212 32) or 100
degrees Celsius (100 0). This means that 180 degrees change in Fahrenheit is equal to 100 degree
change in Celsius, or more simply 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit equals 1.0 degrees Celsius.
This gives rise to the following equations to convert between Celsius and Fahrenheit:
°C = (°F 32) ÷ 1.8 For example: (68°F 32) ÷ 1.8 = (36) ÷ 1.8 = 20°C
°F = (°C x 1.8) + 32 For example: (20°C x 1.8) + 32 = (36) + 32 = 68°F ... Show more content on

Setting a Table
Setting a table is almost as important as the food you prepared for the meal. A neat, interesting, clean
and attractive table setting makes any meal more enjoyable.
What goes where on the table and which glasses go with what drinks?
Let s look at the following guide on how to set the table:
STEP 1
Select the tablecloth.
You can choose any tablecloth, but make sure that the linen patterns do not clash with the china
(crockery) patterns. If the crockery is patterned, choose a plain tablecloth. For using plain, single
coloured crockery, a patterned tablecloth is fine.
When setting the table for a formal dinner white or ivory tablecloths are more appropriate.
Select the right size of tablecloth.
How to select the correct size and shape of tablecloth:
Tablecloths come in square, round, oblong (rectangle), and oval.
An oblong tablecloth is designed to fit a rectangle table with square corners. An oval tablecloth fits an
egg shaped table.
The icons below show the various shapes as labelled on most packages.
SQUARE ROUND OBLONG OVAL
To determine the proper Tablecloth size:
Determine the width and length dimensions of your table. The desired drop is:
10 12 inches to lap level
15 inches for standard banquet tables 29 30 inches to the floor
Once you have these dimensions, to determine the cloth size, add the drop times 2 to each dimension
of your table.
Example:
If the table size is 30x72

Ralph Waldo Ellison s The Invisible Man
The Invisible Man
Ralph Waldo Ellison was born in Oklahoma City, on March 1, 1913 (Rampersad 5) and died in New
York, on April 16, 1994.(Rampersad 565) He was a well known writer and teacher. Also, he is very
well recognized as one of the best American novelists of the post war period. He lived in Oklahoma in
his youth, studying at public schools and suffered through the effects of institutionalized racism. After
receiving a scholarship to the Tuskegee Institute, an all black college, Ellison focused on music, his
early passion and love, between 1933 and 1936 he specialized in trumpet. However, after meeting
with Richard Wright, an openly associate with the communist party who was also a writer, in New
York, he made a big change in his life and became drawn to literature. So in 1939 Ellison began to
publish articles, stories, and essays in several magazines. After receiving a Rosenwald scholarship, in
1945, he devoted himself to write an enormous novel which give him fame: Invisible Man in 1952.

  • 2. Morality and Dehumanization in One Day in the Life of... The novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, presents moral issues, and daily dehumanization of men living in a camp in Russia in 1951. Ivan Denisovich, the protagonist in the novel spoke out against Stalin, and was then put in a prison camp because of it. The novel presents a terrible situation in which Ivan must overcome daily circumstances, which only a person living in a prison camp would know how to survive. The tone and mood of the novel are able to work together to show the theme of the novel, that human self respect is achieved as long as one is still holding onto it. The extract that was chosen occurs on the last page of the novel. Shukhov has just returned from being counted, and helping out another Zek, Tsezar, whose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this is on lines one through five. Now they released you faster, for they were counting one by one. The word you in the above quotation, shows how either Shukhov or the narrator may have been speaking in the quotation; showing the free indirect discourse. The free indirect discourse helps show the bleak tone of the novel. The bleak tone of the novel communicates the theme; human self respect is achieved as long as one is still holding onto it. Because the tone is bleak, the theme is more emphasized through Shukhovs actions of holding his self respect. Whether it may be by holding onto items of sentimental purpose, or hoping for a letter from his family. The mood of the novel also fits in with the bleak tone. The dreary mood is seen through the tone, but goes deeper and describes the emotions portrayed throughout the novel. The last paragraphs of the novel, lines 40 45, show the dreary mood of the novel. A day without a dark cloud. Almost a happy day. There were three thousand six hundred and fifty three days like that in his stretch. The quotation continues on, but from this quotation one is able to notice the irony in it. That it may have been a happy day, but there are still so many days to come that it is impossible to tell what those days will bring. The dreary mood is thus demonstrated from the quotation. The ... • 3. Disadvantages Of Lubricant In a high precision machining operation, lubricant is extensively needed to remove the heat at the tool workpiece interfaces. High heat is generated at the interface due to friction between the tool and the workpiece, which can lead to a very poor workpiece surface quality and tool wear. For that reason, report showed that approximately 320,000 tons of lubricant were used per year in the European Union [1] proving the importance of lubricant in machining application. Lubricant is divided into three categories that are neat oil, water soluble fluids, and gases [2], where the most common type of lubricant in machining application is the water soluble fluids. This type of lubricant is made of water mixed with oil with a certain ratio depending on the types of application being used. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lawal et al. [16] has done an evaluation on the performance of vegetable oil in turning process in comparison to mineral oil. The investigation found that the vegetable oil surpass conventional oil in water performance in turning process. Likewise, Babur et al. [17] have conclude that vegetable oil are effective in producing better surface quality and tool wear than synthetic cutting fluids during turning process. Nevertheless, improvement on the performance of vegetable oil can be done by utilising powder particles such as MoS2, graphite, boric acid, etc. Improvement can be seen from using powder particle aided lubricant in terms of surface finish, coefficient of friction, wear and cutting force [18]. This is because powder particle has lattice layered structure (Fig. 1), relatively high load carrying capacity and low steady state coefficient of friction [19]. Moreover, powder particle such as boric acid are environmentally friendly and do not pose threat to operational workers according to the Environmental Protection Agency, which is desirable in creating a greener lubrication in machining application ... • 4. Who Is Hulu s Target Market Companies always reshape their product to grow or to obtain their goal. Now multiple companies are buying one another to get a better reach of their target market. The first article from Advertising Age states that Hulu will stop offering TV shows for free. That is quite daunting for the users you range from all ages especially millennials who are the main users. The streaming service is discarding its free platform that provided streaming viewers with a library of hundreds of movies, TV shows, and clips since 2007. Hulu s decision to terminate free streaming is a major step as it tries to gain more traction against other streaming video sites, such as Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon. Hulu becomes a lot more like Netflix by offering a monthly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is drastic because when Hulu was announced back in 2005 the cable companies weren t too happy about another platform getting all the views. Now they are on board with cable cutting. And that new, live TV service just got a ton more channels: CNN, TBS, Cartoon Network, TNT, and more. Not a bad haul! Alongside that buy in is the guarantee of Time Warner s many TV channels and the content they produce to Hulu s live TV offering. Time Warner is far from the first major TV content creator to hook up with Hulu s live TV service. NBCUniversal, Disney, and Fox are all in talks with Hulu to offer channels on the new service. There are still lots of questions about the new service, like when exactly it will launch and how much it ll cost. Rumors put the service at between $30 and $40/month, with an expected launch in early 2017. The two articles are related because they depict Hulu s future and their reshaping of their ... • 5. Analysis Of Plato s Republic And Aristotle s Nicomachean... Upon application for university, hearts are heavy with the uncertainty for the future. An overwhelming hope to become the person we are meant to be. This journey, called university, provides the inverse; a worldly creation where past and future are intertwined. A place for discovery. A place of reflection. Leisure, sport and recreation are culpable in cultivating thyself in preparation for true reflection, whose telos is knowledge of thyself. This paper will explore this notion of the journey to true reflection through various historical and present day ideologies. Context will be provided via personal experiences of each phase, as the yellow brick road, leading up to reflection. Only then, true discoveries of thyself can be uncovered. Leisure, sport, and recreation provide the opportunity for growth of mind and body. Both Plato s Republic and Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics conceptualize this growth through games and sport. What is meant by growth? What is development in relation to the self? Once sufficiently developed, leisure, sport, recreation become agents for one to experience thyself in relation to others. Here, socio spatial boundaries become other dimensional and the self becomes a collection of photos. What does it mean to be an individual? What identity does the individual give to their community? Pat Power s notions or creative play, Luc Robene and Dominique Bodin, among many philosophers, thoroughly explore this interconnectivity that distinguishes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The umpire broke up everyone s concentration by saying, play ball ! The defense had ran out on the field and I started rolling ground balls from 2nd to short stop to third base. They had all made good throws back to me and then I threw the ball into the dug out because the game had begun. Nate had threw the first pitch. Wackk. Funding from food stamps, medicare, and public housing would not be affected by this bill (Keller House). According to Columbia Tribune reporter Rudi Keller, the bill is very similar to the Arizona law which is the only other state that tests welfare recipients. Missouri and Arizona would use a questionare and interview which would determine which applicants to test. The two states are also similar in their caseload of 45,017 people on assistance in Arizona and 42,885 in Missouri. The state would not be obligated to provide treatment ... It would also ensure that state money would be used for supporting families, not recreational drugs (Keller). Rep. John McCaherty said The bill will show the state expects TANF recipients to be responsible with public money. (Qtd. in Keller). The idea behind those that support this legislation is that the state is responsible for ensureing that taxpayer s money doesn t ultimately end up buying illegal substances and drug testing is an effective means to ensure this. As with all political issues, there are those on the other side of the fence. People oppose this legistlation for various reasons: from constitutionality to cost. According to a study done by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), welfare recipients are no more likely to use drugs. Furthermore, placing a requirement to be tested may place a stigma upon those receiving welfare which would be counterproductive to their relief (Drug Testing). An editorial by Henry Waters in the Columbia Daily Tribune, the bill is the government attempting to punish a class of people who are presumed worthless (Waters). Another reason people oppose this legislation is the cost. The ACLU study reports the average cost of a drug test at $42 per person. There are less invasive and cheaper methods to ... Master Harold And The Boys Character Analysis In Master Harold and the Boys, Hally s crippled father never appears on stage, instead, the closest thing to him talking is through the telephone conversations. However, Hally s father still has a huge impact on the play as his roles in the play include creating tension through the phone conversations and his relationship with his son also brings about the bond between Hally and the servants. In addition, he symbolizes the conflict of apartheid in South Africa back then. One of Hally s father s role in the play is acting as a dramatic device. His telephone conversations with Hally alters the mood and creates tension in the play. Before the telephone conversation regarding his dad, the mood of nostalgia was in the air as Hally and Sam recalled the kite flying memory. However, after Hally has a frustrating phone call regarding his father, the mood immediately changes with Hally saying, (seething with irritation and frustration) Tell me something I don t know, Sam. What the hell do you think I was saying to my Mom? (P.34) This quote is where Hally takes out his anger and irritation by snapping at Sam, and in doing so, creating tension between the characters. Specifically, I will analyze what negative effects the lack of subjugated knowledge causes within these system s foundations and their future betterment through Foucault s lessons. As a rule, most of the evil in this world is done by people with the best intentions (T.S. Eliot). On October 1947, 23 nations in Geneva signed the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade GATT . This liberated international trade and businesses to begin foreign production investing. The aforementioned agreement was tremendous for the economy. In recent years there is a rapid expansion in generation and use of data. Although in health sector there has been an increase in production of data, but little use of data have seen to improve health care. Mostly all of the data at individual level like medical history, doctor s prescription, pathology reports, diagnostic images etc. and some data at community level like hospital admission statistic, vital statistics etc. goes waste and are not used for further analysis and reference. Despite a very rapid use of various electronic system in public health, the interconnection between different data set is not present for taking out implications from them. Data set can be within health system or between health and other systems. But these isolated data sets cannot help any organization or a country to know how individual health is effected by other system like environmental or social. As it is very well known fact that health is a social construct. To utilize this concept, Durham, North Carolina had successfully linked health system and social and environmental data via shared geography to provide a multidimensional understanding of individual and community health. • 13. Institutional Systems And The Selection Pressures Of... There are various institutional systems that are part of our world. Population, production, regulation, distribution and reproduction are all forces that create potential problems that lead to the creation of institutional systems. In other words, institutional systems are created because of the given selection pressures. The main goal of any institution is to provide solutions for selection pressures, many of them can even help to resolve multiple issues. For example, when it is needed to reproduce biologically and culturally, the institution of kinship aids to resolve the pressures of reproduction. In the same way, when it is needed to regulate the individuals in society, religion could help fulfill the selection pressures of regulation. Education, like kinship, helps to reproduce culturally and also regulate the roles of individuals. Just like these three institutions, the others also play a role in resolving other selection pressures. Kinship, religion and education, however, will be the main focus of this paper given that they are the institutions that mainly aid to the selection pressures of reproduction, population and regulation. Kinship is the institution that resolves the issue of reproduction (until the population gets large). As stated previously, a society needs to reproduce biologically, social structurally and culturally. The explanation that Turner provides for kinship is that it allows marriage and blood ties organized into structures and mediated by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An analysis of the UK. Introduction A persistent trend in the growth rate of immigrants to the UK has been observed since the 1950s and that caters for a diverse ethnic society (Bell 1997). Simultaneously, we ve seen a sharp rise in those participating in any form of qualification/education and this is most prominent for those obtaining higher education qualifications. (Dolton, Silles 2008) However, in some cases there seems to be a drive to obtaining more qualifications than others and this sometimes results in over qualification, a phenomena many have accounted for providing its determinants, the extent of its existence (Battu, Seaman, Sloane, 1999) and how it affects the returns for those in the labour market that fall into this category of over educated (Sicherman, 1991). Although previous studies have lightly focused on how over education affects earnings, studies either focus on the US labour market (Rumberger 1987) or when they do focus on the UK, its effect are assessed only for ethnic minorities. (Lindley 2009). In data acquisition phase, they assumed that the estimated projection data is within a specified tolerance of the available data and the values of voxels are non negative. To observe these constraints, a projection onto convex sets was considered, and the total variation (TV) gets minimized by steepest descent with an adaptive step size. They argued that the TV algorithm can resolve low contrast structures in the presence of high contrast objects even when the projection data sets are limited in angular range or view number, and when the low contrast object is not at the mid plane of the circular x ray trajectory. Qi and Chen cite{zhihua2008direct} considered image reconstruction in fan beam based CT in which the derived formula applies to the real domain. Countries such as the United States, USSR, and Britain also sought to create effective nuclear weapons. Building Faith Community From Day One Building Faith Community From Day One As an architect in a Catholic school, the principal bears the load of responsibility for setting the tone for each school year and as an architect of Catholic culture, is to connect the school s core values and beliefs to Christ and the Gospel intentionally, deliberately, and continually. (Cook, 2001, p. 20) The principal, being the spiritual leader of the school, helps support the Catholic school s mission and the xxxx of the Catholic identity of the school. They must lead through example and build the faith community. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops states that Within such communities teachers and pupils experience together what it means to live a life of prayer, personal responsibility and freedom reflective of Gospel Values. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 1973, p. 30) During the first week of school is when the mission of the school and the Gospel Values or the core beliefs and values of Catholic schooling, should be reveled and xxx to the faith community. My vision would be to reveal the Gospel values of Faith and Love and the greatest link for those is prayer. Prayer The National Directory for Catechist states that faith must be know, celebrated, lived, and expressed in prayer. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2005, p. 60) Prayer is a direct path to growing closer with God and it is fundamental task of a catechist to teach others how to pray. • 30. The Importance Of Earthquakes And The Internal Structure... Earthquakes are naturally reoccuring ecological patterns. In a sense, they re the Earth s natural means of releasing stress and energy as a result of plate movement under the surface. Over thousands of years, like many other ecological behaviors, seismic activities have compelled scientists to study countless records of their impact in the natural world and in human civilization. They ve also shaped the way we ve lived relevant to our environments, designed our very continents, and are revealing to us insights of how the world is made up. In this essay, research and discussion will highlight the importance of earthquakes in earth systems, the relationship between earthquakes and the internal structure of the Earth, and issues or debate being brought up in the scientific community about it. Earthquakes are a very important subject of environmental and geological research. Despite their potential for destruction, they can be an aid for science (Shipman; Wilson; Higgins; Torres, 2015). The techniques required to map the interior of the Earth need a source of waves, strong enough energy to penetrate, the ability to generate these waves continuously in places that will penetrate the area of interest, and the ability to detect the resulting reflected and refracted waves when they emerge (Tulane University, 2015). Similar to how we use light, sound, radio, magnetic, and other waves to judge the workings or configurations of things and spaces in our universe, so do we with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the past hundred years human and ecological systems have undergone large transformations due to globalization and weathering affects. The world s most valued resources are becoming increasingly scarce. The growth in population has changed the supply and demand of both ecosystem and non ecosystem services (Cumming, 2014). Topsoil continues to be eroded away, while water is wastefully used because the source seems so abundant. As globalization values an economic stance, considering vital resources in monetary amounts can allow for further conservation. In an attempt to place greater value on these necessities, considering resources as ecosystem services places a monetary value on natural sources. Background The preservation of ecosystems resources is essential to sustain and provide for life forms. Both soil and water are rich, complex ecosystems, which support living and non living matter. Soil plays a great role in supporting large concentrations of people on the planet (Montgomery). It has played a part in helping society to progress through infrastructure development and agricultural growth however can determine the faith of modern civilization. The existence of soil is essential if human activity is to continue. Human activity adds a wide variety of substances to the environmental, which soils can decompose. Soil plays a central role in the management, processing and detoxification of natural and human created waste. In soil countering the actions of humans, it is continuously under appreciated. To sustain life forms including human populations water is heavily relied on. Water appears to be an abundance source however; little conservation is had for the commodity. The book One Dimensional Man was both influential and highly critical of modern industrial capitalism and as Marcuse believed, its subsequent exploitation of people and nature, as well as its contribution to modern consumer culture and new forms of social control. One Dimensional Man offers an analysis of the new state of consumerism during the 1960 s through a critical lens. He also argues that it is the individual who must ultimately decide this, but at the same time, the individual does not have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of false needs results in one dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to think critically is compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in a flattening of discussion, critic and independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent thought is becoming blurred with the influence of consumer culture. The ability for those within an advanced industrial society to reason between two dimensions (Marcuse, H. 1968), in other words, to look at an industrial society characterised by labour and waste while still acknowledging technological progress, and to imagine a form of living that uses technology to aid nature rather than perpetuate poverty and oppression within the society. Why do false needs exist? they are a means of making money. Consumers think they are free to choose what product they want to purchase, Marcuse calls this deceptive liberty (Marcuse, H. 1968, p.9). For the past couple of weeks I have been looking into horse therapy also known as Equine Therapy. So, I decided my Genius Hour question would be, What is Equine Therapy and how does it help people ? Before we jump into the main question, let s jump back to where it all started. Horse therapy dates back to around 600 b.c when the greeks rode horses for therapy. Later, in around 1946 equine therapy then was introduced in Scandinavia. Which then led to the North Americans beginning the handicapped riding which started around 1969. Horses aren t there to judge your appearance or what happened to the you in the past they are just there to help in the present. Most people like this option because some people believe that they will be judged by a human therapist doctor and most of the patients know that the horses won t judge them on what they look like or been through. This helps people build self esteem and self confidence. Through the years children and adults who participate riding programs improve in physical and social function. Studies have shown that therapeutic riding has shown positive outcomes that change people s lives for the better. Some have been able to gain the function to walk and talk better then before or even for the first time. This is because of the socializing, movement, and the need for balance on a horse. Through movement with the horse and the interaction with the people that work there, children and adults also have improved in other things such as physical function, emotional stability and social interactions. Challenging activities help gain more balance and control, and posture as the horses shows the motivation towards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Converting ° Fahrenheit And Fahrenheit Converting °Fahrenheit to °Celsius and visa versa The freezing point of water in Fahrenheit is 32 degrees, in Celsius it is 0 degrees. The boiling point of water in Fahrenheit is 212 degrees, in Celsius it is 100 degrees. Consequently the difference between freezing and boiling is 180 degrees Fahrenheit (212 32) or 100 degrees Celsius (100 0). This means that 180 degrees change in Fahrenheit is equal to 100 degree change in Celsius, or more simply 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit equals 1.0 degrees Celsius. This gives rise to the following equations to convert between Celsius and Fahrenheit: °C = (°F 32) ÷ 1.8 For example: (68°F 32) ÷ 1.8 = (36) ÷ 1.8 = 20°C °F = (°C x 1.8) + 32 For example: (20°C x 1.8) + 32 = (36) + 32 = 68°F ...
