Lesson plan Year 5SK (Topic: Self- Protection)

  • 1. Subject : English Class : 5 Ibn Khaldun Enrolment : 36 Date/ Day : 29.03.16/ Tuesday Time : 11.00a.m. - 12.00p.m. Duration : 60 minutes Level of pupils : Intermediate Theme : World of Self, Family and Friends Topic : Self- Protection Module : Grammar Content Standards Learning Standards 5.1 By the end of the 6- year primary schooling, pupils will be able to use different word classes correctly and appropriately. 5.1.3 Able to use verbs correctly and appropriately: (b) future continuous tense Behavioural Objectives : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: 1. complete 5 blanks in the dialogue with correct forms of future continuous tense. 2. form sentences in the form of future continuous tense based on the pictures. CCE/ EE : Language Content : Instructional Materials : Projector, laptop, PPT slides, tasksheet, board game, dice. Previous Knowledge : Pupils have learnt about future continuous tense in previous lesson. Thinking skill - Form sentences based on the pictures. Moral value - Spend your time wisely. Future Continuous Tenses - shall be -ing, will be –ing
  • 2. Stage / Time Content Teaching/ Learning Activities Rationale Remarks Set Induction (±5 minutes) Unjumble phrase  Topic: Future Continuous Tense 1. Teacher shows jumbled phrase to the pupils. 2. Pupils unjumble the phrase. 3. Teacher asks pupils to identify the topic. 4. Teacher tells and writes the topic on the board.  To arouse pupils’ curiosity  To develop some initial idea related to the topic  Resource: Laptop, projector, PPT slides Presentation (±15 minutes) PPT slides  Future Continuous Tenses: shall be -ing, will be -ing 1. Teacher displays slides on future continuous tenses. 2. Pupils read aloud the definition of future continuous tense. 3. Teacher explains the usage of future continuous tense. 4. Teacher asks a few questions to the pupils.  To give input to the pupils  Resource: Laptop, projector, PPT slides Practice (±18 minutes) Complete the dialogue 1. Teacher distributes tasksheet to each pupil. 2. Teacher asks pupils to read the instructions. 3. Teacher shows an example on how to complete the dialogue with correct form of future continuous tense. 4. Pupils are given time to complete the task. 5. Teacher discusses the answers with the pupils.  To test pupils’ understanding  Resource: Tasksheet Production (±17 minutes) Board game 1. Teacher explains the instruction to the pupils. 2. Teacher divides pupils into groups and distributes board game and dice to each group. 3. Teacher shows an example on how to form a sentence based on the picture. 4. Pupils take turn to play the board game. 5. Teacher monitors and provides guidances if necessary. 6. Teacher emphasises on the moral value.  To enhance pupils’ understanding  Resource: Board game, dice  Thinking skills: Form sentences based on the pictures.  Moral value: Spend your time wisely. Closure (±5 minutes) Recap the lesson 1. Teacher asks pupils what they have learnt today. 2. Teacher recaps the lesson.  To revise what has been taught and reinforce
