distance learning and physical classrooms (islcollective.com)
Computer and projector (in the classroom).
Speakers.
Student´s computer (as half of the group will attend to the lesson online)
Procedures
For the English lessons, students receive and send activities through a Whatsapp group. I will
send them the link for the videocall meeting through a private Whatsapp group the institution
share with the students as well as with their parents. Moreover, the lesson plan will be
uploaded to a webpage called “Educabot” which the institution chose as a campus for their
students.
ROUTINE (5 minutes)
Purpose: To get students be ready to start the lesson.
I will greet students and ask them how they are today. While the teacher listens to students´
comments, she will ask each of them to take a seat. As the teacher listens to them, she will
prepare her computer to connect online with the other half of students.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lessonwith the next one: Hello everybody!
Let start the lesson by refreshing some concepts learned on previous lessons about future
plans/ arrangements…. Are you ready?
Warm – up (10 - 15 minutes)
Purpose: To encourage students to revise their previous knowledge and build a bridge
between the previous and new knowledge.
Before introducing the new vocabulary, I will show some slides w hich explain the uses of
The Future. With this activity, I will help students to check their understanding about the new
grammatical structure learned to talk about future plans/arrangements. In this sense, students
will be ready to continue learning about expressing ideas about their future. During this
activity, I will guide students, help them to recognize and correct their mistakes by
themselves letting them be active learners on their own learning process.
Then, to check student´s understanding, I will ask them to read some sentences and find the
mistake within them. In this activity, I will be an observer and guider in my students´ learning
process, living them the responsibility for their own learning process.
1. Will you going out this weekend?
2. I´m sorry I can´t come. I playing tennis after work.
3. I don´t feel very well. I think I stay at home.
4. What you going to do?
5. We go for a picnic, so I hope it doesn´t rain.
6. Is that the phone? Don´t worry – I´m going to get it.
7. They might going to the concert.
8. I´m sorry we can´t come, but we going to visit my mother this weekend.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lessonwith the next one: Well done! Now
we are ready to continue learning new concepts and vocabulary to talk about the future….
Presentation (15 – 20 minutes)
Purpose: To encourage students to revise their previous knowledge and build a bridge
between the previous and new knowledge.
I will introduce the topic by showing three pictures related to technology and reality and ask them to
think of the first thing that comes to their mind when they see the pictures.
Possible answers: organic food / farming, implants- brain, printer, 3D
After hearing student´s answers, I will ask them to revise the uses of future structures learned by
playing a board game: Board Game: Let's Talk about the Future - English ESL Worksheets for
distance learning and physical classrooms (islcollective.com). In order to help students to
see the sentences in every chart, I will make the copy bigger, also I will have a supportive
role giving the students an active role in which they have to prepare their own sentences by
making use of the prior knowledge regarding the future. Also, I will guide students through
the game, helping them to check their mistakes and making constructive comments about it.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lessonwith the next one: Well done! Now…
Do you know how to make predictions about the future? Let´s see…
DEVELOP M ENT (PRACTI CE and PRODUCTI ON)
Activity 1: (15 - 20 minutes)
I will invite students to see some pictures related to new inventions which will help in real
life. Do you think the ideas mentioned in this webpage could be true? Why/ why not?
After that, I will invite students to reflect on these questions conside r i ng
what they have read so far.
Do you know any of the inventions presented? Which ones?
How do you think they can benefit people?
Do you think the near future will be totally different as it is nowadays? How?
Which inventions do you think are more important for people´s lives? Why?
Scaffolding strategies: Open-ended questioning in order to encourage students to reflect on
what they are learning and acquire the new knowledge in a meaningful way, directing
students to the important aspects of the task.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lessonwith the next one: Well done! Let´s
read a little more about a near future…. Ready?
Activity 2: (15 - 20 minutes)
After reflecting on the inventions presented, I will ask students to work with
the class book with activity 2, in which they have to read an article and
complete a summary about it.
Scaffolding strategies: Visual support through a Google Document / Book´s Active Teach
tool with the page and activities we will work on, I will provide some examples (such as
which word can be used in each space by giving them some options to choose and reflect on
their choice) as a method to awake student´s attention and check their understanding
regarding the activity itself.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lessonwith the next one: Well done! After
you read the article, let´s think about what we believe will happen in a near future….. Are
you ready?
Activity 3: (15 - 20 minutes)
I will invite students to work in pairs or small groups to answer these
questions. After that, I will ask students to share their conclusions with the
whole group.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lesson with the next one: Great work
everybody! Now, it´s time for a last activity in which you have to use all that you´ve learned
so far… This is our last step of the lesson.
CLOSURE (5- 10 minutes)
In order to make use of everything that students have learned. I will invite them to play a
board game ( the one used in the warm – up stage): Board Game: Let's Talk about the Future
Discuss with other students:
1- Which ideas in the article do you like? Can you think of another
uses for these inventions?
2- Which ideas don´t you like? Why not?
3- Which ideas do you agree will probably come true?
- English ESL Worksheets for distance learning and physical classrooms (islcollective.com).
In this activity, students will be active learners, as they will have the responsibility to make
use of the knowledge, they´ve achieved, by making use of future structures. In this sense, I
will be able to check their understanding on how to use the future structures properly.
My role on this activity will be to guide them and help them if they needed to.
Transition comment to link each stage of the lessonwith the next one: Wow! You work
very hard today… great job! We come to the end of this lesson! Remember homework! See
you next class!
