Workshop Lesson Notes Year : 6 Time : 30 mins Topic : Sea Turtle LearningStandards : 2.2.3 Able toread and demonstrate understandingof textsby: a) gatheringdetailsandsummarizingmainideas LearningObjectives : By the endof the lesson, pupilswill be able todemonstrateunderstandingof textbydrawingthe scenes accurately. Teachingaids : Turtle dolls, PowerPointpresentation slides,Happy VideobyPharrell Williams Activity Step Activity Questions/Sentence Patterns/Notes Pre-reading (3 mins) Teacher reads a short passage on sea turtles using turtle dolls. Pupils are seatedintogroups While reading (15 mins) Each group will geta scenariopertainingtothe turtles. Teachersharesthe SQ3R in reading. 1. Skim the passage. 2. Scan the questions. 3. Read it bybreakingitintochunks. 4. Use a coloured pencil tobreak into chunks. 5. Recall onthe passage mainideas. 6. In group, pupils draw the picture. 7. Reviewthe picture basedonthe passage. 8. Pupils needtothink onthe waysto helpthe turtles andwrite iton the board. Delegate groupworkby 1) 1 Artist 2) 2 Readers 3) 1 Reviewer 4) Leader Notice thatwhen we talk, we pause and stop. To understand a text, you need to break the chunks. Give example… We can helpthe turtles by………. for no. 8 (feel-ittechnique) Post-reading (10 mins) Teacherdirectsthe classtowards the exhibition of work, fromone passage to another. (Gallery Walk) Teacherdistributes the questions for pupils toanswerpostsession. Closure (2 mins) Pupilsrecaponthe lessonandtechniques. Pupilsdance to‘Happy’song
