1. On September8th
I interviewed the teacher of the third year of the Instituto Modelo Viedma
with the aim of starting my secondary practice in her course.
Her name is Michelle Otero Barnes and she kindly accepted being interviewed by me.
We met at the school and I we talked for almost an hour.
Basically she informed me that she had decided that I will start my practice in third year the
following week.
I asked her about the class:
The number of students
Their behavior in general
Their English level of acquisition
The length of the class
The ICT available (TV, DVD, Computer, Recording) IWB, Blackboard
Book, workbook
She gave me a big amount of information that helped me when planning my classes. For
example she toldme thatthe school didn´tdispose of anyICTdevice therefore I if I needed to
use some kind of ICT device/tool I was going to bring it to the class myself.
The explainedme thattheyneeded to finish working with the last unit from the book for the
final exam.The final examconsistedinawrittentestandan oral part. The oral part was an oral
exposure about the novel they were reading named “Four weddings and a funeral”.
She also told me that the group was very talkative and that I will probably have to call for
silence very often.
She explainedme thatshe managedthe classseatingthe studentsinpairs.Thatsome daysshe
changedthe dispositionof matesbutthattheywere alwaysseatedinpairsbecause otherwise
it was impossible to work with them. They tended to talk too much.
I told her about the forms that she had to sign and also the headmistress and the resources I
planned to use with the students.
We agree that once my tutor had corrected me the lesson plans I was going to send them to
her before every class.
If fact she hadgraduatedLenguasVivasa few yearsbefore therefore she knew very well what
the practicum involved.
Soon after the interview I started with the observation and with the practice.
