3. Ayurveda aims at maintenance of health, cure
the disease.
Dinacharya, ritucharya will help in
maintenance of health.
In karkidakam (july/august) following of
ritucharya is important
Karkidaka kanji (ousadha siddha yavagu) is
a medicated dietary form, which is practiced in
Kerala.
It helps to boost immunity and thereby regain
the sharirabala of the individual.

4.  Karkidakam is the last month of the
Malayalam calendar - July or August.
 With the starting of Karkidakam the
monsoon rainfall enters its final phase in
Kerala.
 Ideal for undergoing rejuvenation
therapies.
 There are various types of Ayurveda
therapies that people undergo during the
Malayalam month of Karkidakam.
 These therapies help an individual to go
through the rest of the year by having a
recharged and energized body and mind.

5. RELAVANCE OF KARKIDAKA KANJI
•Kanji is the diet that is most satmya to the keralites, moreover
kanji (yavagu) is indicated in Kshut, Trishna, Glani, Daurbalya,
Kukshiroga and Jwara.
•It promotes anulomana and prevents constipation, acts as
deepana and pachana
•If it is used in any other form it actually will not give much
result.
E, g. if used in kashaya form, it may cause stambhana (due to
the kashaya rasa) thereby causing vata vitiation.
•As this is used in kanji form more quantity will be taken as
compared than other forms of medication (thereby acts as ahara
and aushada at the same time)

Total 15 drugs have been mentioned
Among them almost all the ingredients are having katu
kashaya rasa,laghu,rukhsa guna Katu vipaka and ushna virya
 Sharath rutu-Agni mandhya-maintain the equilibrium of
Agni(Drugs properties and form – Yavagu which is laghu)
 Good dietary suppliment

13. CONCLUSION
Karkidaka is a month which requires rejuvination
Karkidaka Kanji is a traditional food practiced in kerala
during Karakitaka month
It can be compared with Oushadha siddha yavagu mentioned
in Ayurveda literatures
A must use recepy during karkidakam which needs promotion
Ayu pharmacies in Kerala have already come out with this
formualtion
Ingredients can be altered according to availability and
requirement of patients
