Especially the work tasks I have been performing in the office work were very impressive because I didn‘t have any knowledge about the quantity works, cost and report writing etc. In general in the last four month I perform all my duties nicely and get knowledge of the practical world and relate it with the theory I have learnt in the class in the last three years. Also I transform myself to another level of skill, ethics, knowledge and leadership using this internship class and I perform it well.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. 1. FOREWORD
This report documents the practical training I have undertaken during the first 7
weeks of my internship at ALT Architects (Arkitek L. Teh) from the 9th
of January
2019 to the 22nd
of February 2019.
It is of worth to note that during my period of internship, the company was in the
midst of a transition toward BIM adoption into the work flow, which allowed me to
apply my knowledge of Autodesk Revit to the various projects that I was involved
with.
4. 2. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I am deeply grateful towards ALT Architects for generously giving me the
opportunity to work and learn from them. They have made my internship experience a
remarkable one and I definitely learned a lot about the practical aspects of
architecture.
I’d like to thank my boss and supervisor architect Ar. Cindy Teh Lay Sim for
continually making sure that I was assigned tasks to do so that my time spent here is
optimal and productive. Throughout the period of my internship she has been ever so
patient in correcting and teaching despite the countless mistakes I have made.
Finally, thank you to Dr Sujatavani who was kind enough to be willing to reschedule
her visit to the company when we were not in office due to site visits, and was able to
find a time to have a meeting with Ar. Cindy Teh and check up on myself and my
fellow intern at the company.
3. INTRODUCTION TO PRACTICAL TRAINING
The internship training period is aimed at introducing students to the requirements,
activities and operations involved in working in architectural / construction practices.
The purpose is to facilitate the involvement of students in professional attachments to
architectural practices in order to develop an understanding of the general nature,
principles and procedure of law and legislation as applied to architectural drawings,
especially the Building by-laws.

ALT Architects, also known as Arkitek L. Teh, was founded in the year of 2012 by its
principal Ar Cindy Teh Lay Sim. The company located in Dataran Prima is a
relatively small firm undertaking projects ranging from retail to residential and
commercial, with high-rise projects such as Alila Bangsar which has recently been
featured in architectural publications (d+a, AM).
5. 5. PROJECTS INVOLVED
4.1 TROPICANA (Residential 2-Storey Bungalow)
The project encompasses a two-storey residential bungalow house currently in its
schematic phase. The general layout of the floor plan with its spaces were already
determined after meetings between my supervisor and the client. I was assigned with
the task of exploration on the form of the building. With guidance from my
supervisor/boss, I assisted in translating the architectural intention into a 3D form,
making necessary adjustments to the floor plans accordingly through the method
sketches and the softwares of SketchUp and Revit.
Upon settling on a design, I exported orthographic drawings and some perspective
views to be used by my supervisor in her meeting with the client to discuss the
progress of the design and got feedback. With feedback from the client and updated
site information, I made amendments to the design, furthermore creating Revit
families of unique components used in the Revit model such as louvered windows and
doors.
4.2 PARAMOUNT (Residential Terrace Housing Development)
This project is an ongoing two-storey residential terrace housing development
currently in its first phase of BP Submission, located in Cyberjaya. For this project, I
assisted with preparation and colouring of Building Plan (BP) Drawings in Autodesk
Revit which significantly eased the task when compared to hatching in AutoCAD.
This project was my first exposure to BP Submission drawings and the requirements
to get an approval from authorities. I learned the correct colour coding used when
colouring the BP Plans thanks to the guidance from my colleagues.
Apart from this I was able to witness the process of signing drawings by the client, as
I assisted my supervising architect in bringing the submission drawings to the client to
obtain the required signatures on the architectural drawings.
6. 4.3 SUNWAY U (University Apartment Student Accommodation Renovation)
This project encompasses a renovation involving the student accommodation
apartment of Sunway University. My initial involvement with this project commenced
with a site visit to Sun-U Apartment located adjacent to the Sunway University
premises.
During the site visit, I assisted with inspection of the current condition of the 8 blocks
of student dormitories. The most recent building plans that we referred to was drawn
in 1992, so the task on-site was to measuring dimensions of certain elements that were
not clear in the existing architectural plans that were made available to us, and to
cross check the accuracy of the drawings. I was also tasked with taking photos on-site
to be used for future reference.
After the site visit, I was assigned with the task of 3D modelling of all 8 blocks in
Autodesk Revit. With reference to the original drawings and an interior layout plan
received from the interior designer that most recently did refurbishing of the hostel a
few years back, I was able to assist with digital modelling of the scope of the project.
This also included generating of floor plans, sections and elevations with the correct
drawing conventions for renovation works.
Through this project I learned about the drawing conventions used in architectural
drawings for demolition and renovation works. This project also allowed me to
further develop my Revit 3D modelling skills through the implementation of a linked
Revit file system which allowed the workflow to be highly efficient.
Apart from this I was also able to familiarise myself with the layout of a standard
titleblock used in architectural submission drawings as I created a titleblock according
to the format determined by Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ), using Revit.
4.4 PURCON (Residential Terrace House Development)
For this project, I was assigned with the task of initiating the Revit modelling of a
typical lot, using existing CAD drawings as a reference. Upon modelling the project
in 3D, it was much easier to visualise and make amendments to the design of the
terrace house to be designed suitability and also accommodating to the client’s
feedback. Apart from this, I also assisted in the colouring and general amendment of
the BP Drawings for submission.
While working on the project, I was exposed to and made aware of the many
considerations that go into the design of a residential terrace house such as the piping
and ducting of the air-conditioning system, setting line for tiling
7. 4.5 SAUJANA (Residential 4-Storey Bungalow)
This project entails the design of a 4-storey residential bungalow with initial layout
being determined prior to my involvement with the project. For this project, I was
assigned the task of modelling structural beams into the existing Revit 3D model of
the bungalow based on preliminary sketches of the supporting structure received from
the structural engineer. Modelling the RC beams into the 3D model allowed us to
have a clear visualisation of how the structural elements affect the form and aesthetic
outlook of the building.
Upon modelling of the structural beams, some amendments were made to the design
of the bungalow. After these changes were made, I prepared BP Drawings with
colouring for pre-consultation with the authorities to determine the viability of the
design, as the building itself slightly exceeded the 12 meter restriction put in place by
the authorities.
4.6 CHERAS (Residential Single Storey Renovation)
For this project, I was tasked with drawing the plans of an old one-storey residential
house in Revit, with the original housing development layout plan drawing as a
reference. Using the water tank slab to our advantage, my supervising architect
proposed to add an additional loft level to maximise the floor area available for the
client. I was to come up with a potential layout of the renovation, including a rough
furniture layout plan to be used for further discussion with the client.
I then exported the drawings and potential layout plans for my supervising architect to
review, and prepared presentation drawings for her meeting with the client for further
discussion.
4.7 COMPANY PROFILE
Apart from architecture-related projects, I was also assigned various design tasks,
utilising my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for the benefit of the
company. This included a redesign of the company logo and the layout of ALT
Architect’s company profile. Apart from this I also worked on the company website
as an extension of the company profile that I worked on.

11. 7. CONCLUSION
Over the course of 7 weeks of my internship period I was able to develop not only my
practical knowledge of the construction industry, but also a clearer outlook on the
scope of the task of an architect, an individual who needs to be very knowledgeable
and able to wear many hats and play many roles throughout the process of any
construction.
Apart from knowledge related to the field of architecture, I was able to observe and
witness numerous presentations and meetings conducted by my colleagues and
supervisor. This no doubt helped me develop my interpersonal communication skills
through experiential learning, as well as through my interactions with my colleagues
in the work place.I also had the opportunity to improve my eye for design layouts and
aesthetics in general through the projects that I was involved with. Furthermore, I was
able to develop and hone my skills of various software, particularly Autodesk Revit
and Adobe Photoshop.
Being able to intern at ALT Architects has allowed me to experience the work of an
architect at a small scale office really allowed me to have a more intimate
understanding of the inner workings and effort that is put into producing architectural
drawings and related documents needed for construction. It is a real honour and
privilege to have been given this opportunity to carry out my industrial training with
such a company.
