French photographer JR pasted 15 large portraits of Berlin residents on buildings in Berlin in April 2013 as part of his art project "The Wrinkles of the City". Berlin was the fifth city featured in this series. Murals are paintings or artwork applied directly to walls, ceilings or other surfaces. They can be made of paint, tiles, mirrors, mosaics or ceramics. Berlin was founded in the 13th century and became the capital of Prussia and later the German Empire. After World War 2, Berlin was divided but has been the unified capital of Germany since 1990.

4. murals
Mural – any piece of artwork painted or applied
directly on a wall, ceiling or other large permanent
surface.
A distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is
that the architectural elements of the given space
are harmoniously incorporated into the picture.
7. types of mural paintings
Since those days of murals made with crushed
colourful minerals, murals have only increased in
complexity.
8. types of materials used for murals
Painted Murals
The face of the wall
is painted on the
basis of pre-
conceptualized
design. The murals
can be made directly
on a wall of the
property or on the
ceiling in a very
artistic manner.
Tile Murals
The design is first
painted on the tiles
and then fixed on
walls. Tile murals
can make a dull
space look appealing
and eye-catching.
Ceramic Murals
These are made of
mirrors, tiles,
mosaic and ceramic
pieces. These murals
are commonly found
to be long and
inspired by
beautiful canvasses.
9. JR is known for stirring things up by incorporating images with messages that are
sometimes vague in nature
Apart from the
previously
mentioned ones,
there are
traversing wall and
climbing wall
murals too.
