Game Title GTA 5 ( Grand Theft Auto 5)
Provide detailed descriptions from chosen examples that establish⦠Clearly state what production technique(s) you think have
been used to create specific soundtrack elements
Setting ο· There is no background sound this makes it harder to describe the setting
however there are people talking in the cut scene with the talking there is
nothing around them just a slight echo on their voices so I believe that they
could be talking in a house.
ο· There was no background sound to show
what the setting was.
ο· Even though there was talking the actors
would of used a sound proof room and
then to add the echo on their voices that
would have been done through a
computer softaware.
Mood ο· At the beginning there is no tension between the two men that are talking
to each other, they seem to be talking as very good friends
ο· During the cut scene the two characters start to argue between themselves
creating a lot of tension between the two characters.
ο· To create the calm and then suddenly
vigorous tension between the two
characters, the voice over actors would
have followed a script and when they
were told to show tension they would
shout in an angry voice.
Game genre ο· From the very start the viewer cannot tell what the genre of the cut scene is
as there are no clear give away that what the actual genre is. Although the
due to the two men arguing between themselves it makes the viewer think
that the game is an action game.
ο· There is no background sound so they
didnβt use any computer generated
sounds or traditional instruments to make
the sounds, although there are two male
characters speaking they would of used a
sound proof room to capture the audio.
Narrative ο· Straight from the beginning of the cut scene the viewer can instantly hear
two male character talking between themselves in a calm and friendly way
however half way through the cut scene their tone in their voices change
and start to argue and shout at each other creating a sense of violence
between them.
ο· I believe that the two male characters
were done by voice over actors in a sound
proof room so no background noises can
reach them
ο· When the two characters were arguing
they would of used a directional

microphone as this would capture
everything they were saying and collect
the tone of their voice.
There is a very strong mood set that develops over the cutscene, despite the fact not much music was used. I think in a way this lack of music, and it's
subtlety when it is finally introduced half way through, gives the scene more of an impact. The dialogue spoken and the way in which it is set works very
well. Any louder and the music would be more likely to have just drowned out the character's voice and have had less of an impact. The heavy sounds of
helicopter or machinery in the background are not too overpowering, but are enough to remind us of the setting; in some kind of vehicle. There isn't much
dialogue at first, but on the occasion it is spoken it is calm yet spoken in such a tone that gives the atmosphere more of a sense of weariness or dismal,
which we can also tell from the lack of dialogue. Everything goes even more quiet between characters once the TV is playing, indicating a sense of
uneasiness or tenseness. A camera flash at 1:40 (VST effect or possibly studio recording?), tells us we are possibly going back to a flashback, and again,
until 1:53 until the female character speaks again. This time, a stark difference from before. Dialogue is still moderately calm at the moment, but there
is a sharp edge of anger. Dialogue between characters continues now for a while longer, with an increasing sense of resentfulness and aggravation. The
hum of the vehicle remains throughout all of this- a steady backtrack to the rising dispute. There aren't any other distractions in this time, making the
focus entirely on the dialogue. Until at 2:14 when there is a bang, signifying the elevated intensiveness of the discussion. Beeping, air or turbulance
sounds, as well as subtle music in the background now are all introduced at once.. as the aggressively vehement mood is getting more and more
pronounced as it reaches a peak. Dialogue is louder at this point, characters are shouting and very rushed in speech.
