Game Title
Assassins Creed 3 Cut-scene
Provide detailed descriptions from chosen examples that establish…
Clearly state what production technique(s) you think have
been used to create specific soundtrack elements
Setting
The cut-scene I have chosen is set inside an abandoned church in the middle of a
forest. It is set in the winter so the ground is covered with snow. The church is
wooden and the walls have been painted white. There are no windows, only
window frames.
In the setting of the cut-scene birds can be heard
whistling in the background, it sounds like actual
bird sounds were recorded using an ambient
microphone.
Mood
The mood at the beginning of the scene is tense because one of the characters is
ambushed by another. The background music is fast and loud at the beginning but
as the scene goes on the music slowly becomes quieter and calmer because the
characters are now talking and there is no sense of danger.
The music played in the background sounds like it
was produced by an orchestra.
Game genre
Action/Adventure: The scene that I have chosen makes me think that the game is
action based because at the beginning the characters are confrontational and
violent. The scene also gives the sense that the game is adventure orientated
because one of the characters talks about “tracking” a character down.
The pitch and tempo of the music depended on
what was happening in the scene, for instance at
the beginning of the scene the music gets
progressively louder because some action is about
to occur.

Narrative
The narrative changes as the cut-scene progresses, it starts out very confrontational
with the characters arguing. But it then turns into a calmer and quieter conversation
towards the middle and the end of the scene.
The topic of the conversation influenced how the
music in the background was played, when the
conversation was tense so was the music (it was
fast and loud).
