Game Title

Gears of war 3 (Dom’s death)

Provide detailed descriptions from chosen examples that establish…

Clearly state what production technique(s) you think have
been used to create specific soundtrack elements

Setting

The setting is a post-apocalyptic world where the humans fight against the locust
enemy. I think that the setting of this scene is established by the two different
factions that are fighting in the scene and the shouting that is coming from both
factions this helps the scene to set a tense and exhilarating setting.

I think that the production techniques used for
this is good quality design software to make the
loud sounds of shouting and pitch adjustment, I
also think that the loud voices were recorded in a
sound booth and later edited to give the effect of
it echoing.

Mood

The mood for this scene is sad because one of the main protagonists of the scene
has just died and this is shown by the music that is played. By playing this music it
establishes that the mood is down beat and sad. This is so that it can show the right
mood to fit with the scene in the game.

I think that the production techniques used to
create this mood is a piano because the notes
that are played throughout the scene are low and
don’t get any gradually higher. At 1:56 the piano
music starts to play I think that this would of had
to been also edited in a studio so that it is easily
heard throughout until 3:04 until the music ends.

Game genre

The games genre is a action game. And this is established by the sounds of the
explosions and gunfire that is heard at the beginning of the scene. Also all the loud
and deep voices of the characters and the way they move this would also suggest
that it is violent.

The deep voices of the characters come across
clearer than you would think for characters with
those kinds of voices. So I think that a good
quality microphone was used to capture the
voices so that it comes across very clear and crisp.

Narrative

The narrative of this scene is a bunch of humans who are trying to get to an island,
but then are caught up in this crazy encounter with their enemy. The music details
the struggle that they have been through already and the struggle there are going
through to get to this island.

The techniques used I think is a programme so
that the music in the scene is louder than the rest
to show the emotion. I think that the music is also
edited alongside with the explosions and gunfire
so that you can also hear those just under the
music playing over them
