Cultural Competence in Healthcare
Erin Stegall
Introduction The members of the largest ethnic group being granted legal permanent residence in
the United States are from Mexico. According the 2010 census 16.3% of the population of the
United States is Latino (Spector, 2013). The Latino population will increase to 30 % of the total
population by the year 2050 based on current projections (Juckett, 2013). There are several barriers
to health care faced by many in the Latino population. They include: language barriers, lack of
health insurance, mistrust, not have a legal status and a different culture of health care (Juckett,
2013, p. 48). Juckett also points out that most medications that require a prescription in the US are
obtained without prescriptions in immigrants home countries (2013).
It is estimated that 20% of the U. S. population use herbal medicine. The prevalence of herbal
medicine use by some ethnic and cultural groups in the US may be even higher; one meta
analysis found that 4% to 40% (mean 30%) of Latinos living in the United States regularly used
herbal medicine (Kiefer, Tellez Giron, Bradbury, 2014, p. 64). The growing number of Latinos in
the US and their reliance on herbal remedies is something that healthcare providers are going to
have to address to be able to provide culturally competent care to this population.

The Role Of Entertainment In The 70 s
Have you ever wondered what entertainment was like in the seventies and what you would do to
have fun? The seventies was the generation where entertainment became popular because of all the
new inventions. Entertainment during the 1970 s was very popular: music became more up beat,
video games became more widespread, and movies became more action packed.
During the 1970s, the popularity of music skyrocketed. Popular music genres in the 70 s were
disco which was the most popular during the decade, progressive rock, punk rock and funk. Disco
was the most listened to genre of the 1970 s. It also had an effect on fashion, it inspired people to
wear many crazy things like bell bottom pants, tye dye shirts, and headbands (Pearson). The first
disco song was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This song created a dance called the hustle, it also made it to the top of the charts, and The
Hustle rewarded Van McCoy with a grammy award. Although disco was very popular in the
seventies, it didn t last long. Disco s popularity declined in 1979 (Pearson). In progressive rock,
the songs were usually longer. Progressive rock was combined with opera and classical, and the
albums followed a theme throughout (Pearson). One very known artist was Pink Floyd that was
popular for following one theme throughout an album. Punk Rock started in the 60 s and
continued into the 70 s (Pearson). Punk Rock was more upbeat than any music type in the 70 s
(Pearson). The band that was considered as the first punk rock band was the Ramones (Pearson).
The Ramones started in 1974 and ended in 1996. Funk came from R B, Jazz, and soul music
(Pearson). Funk music was known for dancing, costumes, and personalities (Pearson). Also in the
1970 s, there were many artist of each type of music. In disco the most famous

Importance Of Technology On Education
Most people think of the phones in their hand or pocket when they think of technology, but the first
roots of technology started all the way back in the Paleolithic Era. This era brought us the first set
of stone tools and the famous cave paintings that have helped us learn about the past. Following the
Paleolithic Era, we had the Mesolithic and NeolithicEras which both brought us more advanced
stone tools and the start of copper tools. After the Meso/Neolithic Eras, we had the Bronze Era
which brought us our bronze tools and weapons. The next era was the Iron Age; this age brought us
our iron tools and bullets which further improved hunting. Next was the Middle Agesthat gave us
our armory and many more improvements on weaponry. Following the Middle Ages, there was the
Renaissance, then the Industrial Ages where hundreds of inventions were made like the steam
engine and the telegraph which advanced travel and communication. The last era is the Information
Age which gave us our phones, computers and the internet. Throughout history, technology has
improved and given society many benefits including the improvements of the educational system,
medical and the many communication systems.
The vast expanses of old and modern technology have pushed us forward in a new stance on
education and the system itself. With the use of the internet from their phone and computer/laptop
kids and adults alike can go online and read articles, look at powerpoints or Prezi s or watch videos

Michael Merrill Assignment 2 Analysis
The art of Michael Merrill has always been seeking to subvert the established system of art. Merrill s
recent Apartment complex paintings count among his most sophisticated and daring works to date.
He chose the subjects to be not the artwork themselves, but rather their situational contexts and
architectural details in which they were exhibited. He wanted to paint from experience, rather than
from his own experiments in the surreal. As a result, he was inclined towards subjects that were
immediately available to him. Merrill convinces the viewers that the artwork depicted is his to
interpret. As a part of his Apartmentseries, Apartment 1, Apartment 2, and Apartment 3 are oil on
canvas, finished in 2016. To add, he has related inks on paper... Show more content on

I will use this newly acquired information to view everyday items differently, to see the beauty
behind plain brick walls. I will take in Merrill s way of thinking to ask myself, What was
learned? each time I have completed an artwork. This will improve my future techniques and
widen my range of perceptions and thoughts. I believe that Michael Merrill was successful in
reaching his goal. He wanted to focus on viewing objects in a different way and using light
sources to differentiate colour and contrast from night and day. I was unbelievably fascinated
with Merrill s way of thinking, as it showed me that there is more than one way to view an
object. He so eloquently explained his opinion on his apartment complex that it made me realize
that no two people in the world see something the same way. I would consider the building to be
not worth of my time to paint, yet Merrill demonstrates his capabilities in a piece of art that I
would consider incredible. All of Merrill s artworks are so perfectly done, from every crisp edge, to

Strategic Strategy Of The Mp Program
The 2007 Joint Program Office Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (JPO MRAP) program
differed significantly from normal procurement programs in time of award, selection of
vendors, standardization of equipment design before fielding and level of pre production
research. The MRAP program acquired off the shelf assets which literally saved lives and
provided the US time and space to focus on achieving its stated strategic objectives. The closest
process that resembled a rapid fielding initiative before 2007 was the US Marine Corps Urgent
Universal Need Statement (UUNS) . Based on its overall success, the unique MRAP program
paradigm should be formally used for other major defense acquisition programs in support of
combat forces. The strategic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This realization lead to the Surge strategy developed in late 2006 . The tactical implications of
the surge in a COIN focused execution resulted in risking significantly greater numbers of
soldiers to IED attacks. Two critical vulnerabilities of US forces were the insufficient protection
platforms for transportation and limited road network available to move troops rapidly. The
insurgent s ability in 2006 to attack US ground forces with IEDs was a critical capability which
compromised US forces combat mobility and effectiveness. In June 2006, IED incidents reached
more than 2,000 per month. At one point in 2006, coalition forces in Iraq were experiencing
almost 100 IEDs per day . The DoD acquisition strategy supporting the MRAP rapid fielding
initiative is nested within the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System or JCIDS.
Although it was an improvement over the previous process known as the requirements generation
system or RGS, it proved too glacial in movement due to legislative restrictions and a risk aversion
environment within the Pentagon. The JCIDS was geared along strict cumbersome processes and
focused almost exclusively on the procurement of future based weapons systems. This mitigated
any requirement that demanded purchase in less than 2 to 3 years. The US Marines identified one
way to acquire mine resistant vehicles and in 2004 submitted an Urgent Universal Need Statement
(UUNS) for 26 vehicles capable of resisting bottom

Letter To Ephesians Essay
Historical Background In the beginning of the book of Ephesians, Paul specifically states that he is
the author of the letter to Ephesians, though the authenticity of Paul s authorship has been
questioned. Signing the name of an influential person of the period was common practice from the
third century BC to the first century AD. Though it would not be the first time that Paul s name
was forged, Ephesians is not a controversial letter, so if the author did not want to include his own
name, he could have written the letter anonymously; also, given moral influence of the text, the
author would not have lied for no cause. Ephesians is a bit different from the other letters of Paul
in that it does not follow the normal structure he has previously used: salutation, thanksgiving,
prayer, body, ethical exhortations, greetings. Paul also makes many personal references throughout
the book of Ephesians including sharing that he is in prison. During the time the letter was written,
most believe that Paul was in a prison in Rome. He wrote three letters at around the same time.
One letter was to the Colossians; one letter was to Philemon, whose slave, Onesimus, had recently
run away; the final letter was to the church that Paul had started in Ephesus. The messenger that
carried the letters to the church of Colossae most likely passed through the sea port and great city
at Ephesus. Working in Ephesus for at least two years, Paul expanded the reach of the Gospel to the

Analysis of PlatoВґs Republic
Republic, perhaps Plato s most famous work focusing on justice and its values, is also home to
Socrates unique ideas and the challenges that he faces throughout his dialogues with other
philosophers. Nevertheless, justice is not the only topic that Plato examines in his work. In the
Republic, a simple discussion of the justice and the different characteristics of cities, escalates into
a discussion about the souls of individuals. Socrates starts out by offering an agreement to the fact
that since cities are made of individuals, their characteristics can also be found in individuals. From
his writings, Platoexemplifies most of Socrates arguments towards the development of his own
arguments. One very famous theory developed by Plato from... Show more content on

Though Socrates attempts to define the three parts of the soul in detail, he is faced with some
challenges. Socrates seems unsatisfied with his discovery, as he questions himself whether
these parts work individually, or together, each controlling an appropriate portion of the soul. In
order to find an appropriate explanation to his question, Socrates brings an example of a soul
desiring a drink, and a soul that is desires to get a drink. He claims that although driven by the
same desire of thirst, these are different. However, the souls can never desire completely
opposite things at the same exact time. For example, if one part of the soul wants a drink, and
the other part desires to get a drink, the third part cannot forbid itself from taking a drink. Aside
from defining the different parts of the soul, Socrates also needs to prove that the souls can be
viewed as having virtues, just like the cities. The city originated by Socrates in the theory is a
entirely good city. In his words, it is wise, courageous, moderate and just (Republic 4.427d).
Socrates presents each virtue (wisdom, courage, moderation, and justice) in the city. Now, he is
determined to show that the same virtues exist within individuals. Consequently, Socrates proves
that justice is comfort for the soul and henceforth beneficial to the soul. (444c 445a). Socrates
divides sets each virtue where he believes they belong. He claims that

Hurricane Research Paper
The hurricane began as a tropical wave a westbound low pressure area first observed southeast of
Cape Verde on 29 August.[1] Traversing the tropical Atlantic, the wave retained a minimum
barometric pressure of about 1010 mbar (hPa; 29.83 inHg) and strengthened briefly the
following day.[2][3] By 1 September, however, the wave had become rather weak and
indiscernible; it would remain as such for much of its early existence till 6 September, by which
time it had moved past the Windward Islands. In this region the system became sufficiently
organised to be classified as a tropical depression at 18:00 UTC that same day, about north north
west of Grenada.[4][5] Some six hours after its inception the depression strengthened to a tropical

peak intensity with as a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 135 mph (215 km

hours later. A barometer in the city recorded a minimum pressure of 952 mbar (hPa; 28.12 mbar);
this was the lowest barometric pressure measured in association with the storm.[2] The hurricane
substantially weakened over the YucatГЎn Peninsula, and had weakened to tropical storm strength
by the time it had entered the Bay of Campeche. Despite moving back over water, the tropical
cyclone continued to weaken in the bay,[5] and made its final landfall roughly 60 70 mi (95 110

September.[2] Over the mountainous terrain of Mexico, the storm quickly weakened, and

LAD is another statistical optimality criterion and the statistical optimization technique that
relies on it. Similar to other celebrity like optimization techniques, LAD aims to find a function
which closely approximate our data. Trimmed Mean: Involves the calculation of the mean after
discarding given parts of a probability distribution or sample at the high and low end, and
typically discarding an equal amount of both. This number of points to be discarded is usually
given as a percentage of the total number of points, but may also be given as a fixed number of
points. Also known as Truncated Mean. For classification trees, phi coefficient, Gini Index, or

association for two binary variables (n is total number of observations). Gini Index: The Gini
Index loss measures inequality or dispersion. Another step data scientist should consider before

size of decision trees by getting rid of sections of our tree that provide little to no power for our

Analysis Of David Vs. Goliath Decision-Making Strategies
It can be disheartening at times to produce content that will compete with massive industry leaders,
especially if you have a local market that is competing with a global business. More and more of
these massive corporations are seeing the value of content marketing and making it a part of their
digital strategy.
So that puts your content in a David versus Goliath situation. The industry leader has a wider reach,
is viewed as a more authoritative source, and probably ranks better on Google. It is possible to
outrank huge corporations and industry leaders. You can do it with some clever planning, creative
content and solid SEO work.

The World And Human Beings
Scripture: The event of creation stands as the first time God shows His existence even though He
existed before creation took place. We also see that Christ was a being who lived with God and
without Him there could be nothing (1 John 1:1 3). During the actual event of creation (Gen 1),
God took six complete days to finish it. He created everything from the heavens to the earthand all
that lives within them. He created light and darkness, land and water and separated them, and
animals that roam the earth and the sea. He then created man in His own image so that we could
rule the earth and all that lives in it. During the event of creation we see that Godis the creator of all
things and the Lord of all things. We are to give Him praise for His creation of the world and
human beings (Revelation 4:11). He created His Son as a visible image of Him who is the
invisible image. He created the heavens and the earth, and shows his authority over evil on
earth. He does not stop evil, but He clears a path for us to avoid and get away from evil. He sent
His Son to reconcile us back to God (Colossians 1:16 20). This passage shows that God is the
creator of all things and has power over everything that has been created. He created everything
from nothing that is visible. Christ sustains the world and without Him there would be complete
chaos.

Relationship Between Scottie And Stephanie In Veertigo
Alfred Hitchcock s 1958 drama Vertigo explores the mystery and relationship through ex detective
Scottie and elusive Madeleine. Although some see it as a love story hidden within a psychological
thriller, it is also a critique of cinema, gender, and the sexist issues of the time. The dynamics
between Scottie and Midge and Scottie and Madeleine/Judy demonstrate these issues. Hitchcock
uses Scotties character to portray the uncomfortable male centric viewpoint of most films through
plot, mise en scene, and character blocking. From the beginning of the film, the power in the
relationship between Scottie and Midge illustrates Scottie s struggle with masculinity. Midge is an

Madeleine, the dream woman that will solve his insecurities within his masculinity. This desire is
explained through his literal makeover of Judy, buying her new clothes, having her hair dyed,
having it done a certain way, etc. When trying on suits an employee in the store comments that
Scottie knows exactly what he wants, the disturbing problem in that being that anything less than
his illusion of Madeleine will be unacceptable to him. Another way Scottie consumes Judy is
through positioning in shots. Whereas Midge is seen as above Scottie, often literally as in their
primary scene, Hitchcock uses the kissing scene between Judy and Scottie to show him
progressively becoming literally above and on top of her, crushing and smothering her beneath
him. Furthermore, Judy s character becomes more and more corpse like as the film progresses.
When she is finally transformed into Madeleine, she is depicted in green and foggy light, making
her appear both haunting and ghostly. Even when she is being made over, when her hair is being
died, she looks like a body being prepared for her funeral. The kissing scene mentioned earlier acts
in the same way, her being crushed by him makes her appear lifeless. Whether she is dead or alive,
Hitchcock shows the viewer that it does not matter to Scottie. The deepening of this throughout the
film, culminating in Judy being actually dead and destroyed beneath Scottie from the window,
exposes the overwhelming and unhealthy nature in his seemingly affectionate feelings towards

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Anxiety
Normal and Abnormal Anxiety
Anxiety is a reaction to things that stress you. It is normal to have some anxiety at work, school,
or home. It is when anxiety becomes a daily occurrence with no known cause that it is categorized
as a disorder. Anxiety, panic, and depression often begin with normal stress that gets out of control.
Hectic lifestyles lead to poor eating habits, less restful sleep, deficiencies in vitamins and minerals
the body needs, and higher levels of stress. You don t have to work outside the home to experience
stress, anxiety, and/or depression. It can happen to stay at home parents, working parents, students,
young working adults, children, and senior citizens alike. Anxiety isn t exclusive to any age or
gender group.
Natural anxiety remedies are better for you than conventional treatments like medications that dull
the senses and cause a number of side effects ranging from mild to life threatening. A good rule of
thumb to follow is that if the medication has more side effects than you have symptoms, consider
going with natural means of treatments.
Natural Anxiety Remedies
The most common natural ways to lessen stress and manage anxiety and depression are as follows:
Chamomile Best known as a tea leaf, chamomile offers the same results as valium, but without the
adverse side effects. It binds to the same brain receptors and calms anxiety.
L Theanine Green tea contains an amino acid called L Theanine that is effective for curbing high

The Role of the Circus Folk in Hard Times by Charles Dickens
The role of the circus is both complex and simple it is in itself a contradiction; it has been placed
within the novel to add another dimension to the story of Coketown but also to show how fragile
human nature can be. The circus folks role are complicated in their simplicity, they are of course
there to carry out the role that they are paid to perform as actors or performers as well as being
there for the second more complicated role of showing the notion of fancy within the novel. It is
this second role which this essay will strive to discuss and discover.

The modern reader may or may not have recognised from her description of her fathers job that
she was a circus child. When Gradgrind hears her name he becomes annoyed and insists that she
no longer allow her father to refer to her as Sissy but instead he must call her Cecilia call yourself
Cecilia (Charles Dickens: page 4 Hard Times 1854). The fact That Sissy s father has a pet name
for her is important because it shows emotion within her family, she has a bond with her father
that we would refer to as affection or even love, Gradgrind and Coketown do not recognise these
emotions but view them as fancy, nothing serious or factual about them. The purpose of the school
is to produce future citizens of Coketown that are uniform and do not question what could have
been, Sissy does not fit within this mould as she feels and by feeling she has fancies which is
against the principal ideas of Coketown.
The reader s introduction to the circus as an event within Coketown comes in what can be

The Role Of The Magi In The Bible
In the Bible, Matthew tells the story about magi from the east who followed a star to look for the
baby, who is the one has been born the king of Jews. Many people traditionally think there are
three magi in the Bible, because in Matthew s account there are three gifts given which were gold,
incense, and myrrh. However, the Bibledoes not say there were only three wise men. They could
have been more. So we do not know who are the people exactly because the Bible never
mentioned it. The magi is a counselor to a king. Tradition says that there were three magi and their
names were Gaspar, Melchior, and Balthasar, but since the Bible does not say, we have no way of

of Christ, humbled themselves to worship Jesus, and obeyed God rather than man. They are the

The Potential Benefits Of Corporate Blogging
The blogging phenomenon has started to make companies view the potential benefits of corporate
blogging. They all agree that blogs achieve a mass media effect through the high level of
networking in the blogosphere wherein news disseminates very rapidly. The blogosphere (online
community of blogs and their writings) has heralded a new communication tool that can influence
public opinion of a company. However, companies are slow to react to the growing credibility of
corporate blogs as communication channels.
A recent list of Fortune 500 company blogs shows that only 5% of the United States corporations
have joined the blogging arena. Companies are treading this still unfamiliar territory with caution
and skepticism. Company executives, public relations people and legal experts are just starting to
figure out how they can utilize the potential of business blogs without subjecting themselves
especially their companies to possible complications. Indeed, some companies are hesitant to
plunge into the scary world of blogging for fear of encountering legal and business risks inherent in
blogging such as libel, slander, lawsuits and disclosure of confidential and proprietary information.
Despite the fear, some industry leaders like Microsoft, IBM, Sun Microsystems and General
Motors, to name a few, have dived headlong into corporate blogging. These companies recognize
that a blog is an immensely effective yet low cost way to boost corporate communications and
marketing

The Standards Of Water Jump
Water Jump. I remember back 20 years ago when the ISO 900x standards were pushed heavily in
Eastern Europe s manufacturing economy, it was like reminiscent of a bank robbery during
daylight. Consulting certification companies were making tons of money and in return were
giving their clients a right to put label called ISO 900x. Around that time I was working as a
mechanical designer in a leading manufacturing factory and one day I witnessed an extremely
interesting conversation between part time 75 year young engineer and the head of the ISO
certification group that was converting our company into ISO 9000 certified. I happened during
informal 15 min break, when out of the blue, the engineer simply confronted the entire
certification process and called that we have been conned. He challenged the certification group
to present a standard that we may need and do not have. On every given example, he was able
quickly to point existing standard and the published reference as in a number of cases he went
back as 60 years to find the needed reference. In the end, he was able to build a strong case.
Eventually, the head of the certification group concluded: You know it, I know it, the rest of
people do not. Let s keep it that way . Fast forward 10 years to the agile revolution, when I
remembered how ecstatic people were in the software community. I remember many authors had
sold their software books on agile. When I checked, the majority of them had published just a few

Prayer In Schools Has Been A Much Talked About Debate In
Prayer in schools has been a much talked about debate in America over the past half century.
Conservatives, trying to regulate the religious freedoms of Americans , have tried numerous times
to pass amendments that allow private student led prayer in the classrooms(Baik, 243). Liberals,
realizing that private prayeris and has always been legal, try to keep the balance between church
state separation as it is. This has kept the political issue of religionat a boil and confused many
people on the actual issue of coercive school prayer. The banning of school praying is a major
assurance of individual freedom and must be cultivated.
The United States has long been divided on the issue of prayer in school. From the very beginning

Schempp , the Court ruled that there could be no teacher led mandatory prayer in a public
classroom. Later, in Engle v. Vitale, it expanded its ruling to include devotionary Bible readings. It
encouraged Bible readings, however, in comparative religion classes, and the study of how the
Bible has affected history and literature in each of these classes. State Supreme Courts have made a
few rulings on the constitutionality of student led prayer at voluntary school events such as
ballgames and graduation ceremonies, but there has been no national outline on what practices are
legal and illegal. Also, moments of silence are currently under debate, with the court ruling usually
hinging on whether or not the moment is implemented to encourage prayer(ACLU).
There are many practical reasons why people argue for the integration of prayer into the curriculum
of public schools. The most commonly cited reason for this is that children need the moral and
ethical guidance that religion taught in the classroom will provide them. While almost everyone
agrees that religious indoctrination is the responsibility of the parents, since many parents are seen
as neglecting the duty to sufficiently teach their children, Christianity must be taught in public
schools. Prayer in school helps build every child s morality helping them to make the right decision
and better choices, it gives them exposure to other religions and promotes tolerance and
understanding. It also gives children chances

Beethoven, Ludwig Van ( 1770-1827 )
Beethoven, Ludwig van (1770 1827). He is known for some of the most influential pieces of
music ever written, Ludwig van Beethoven created a bridge between the 18th century classical
period and the new beginnings of Romanticism. His greatest breakthroughs in composition came
in his instrumental work, including his symphonies. Beethoven had a very hard childhood. He
was 1 of 7 children, many of which never lived to adulthood. His family was very poor. His father
was an alcoholic with a very bad temper and was very hard on him, however this did not affect his
love for music. He became the breadwinner of the family at 18 years of age due to his father s
death in 1792, which caused their family to grow deeper into poverty.
Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany, however there is no actual record of his date
of birth. Beethoven got his musical training from his father and grandfather who were also
musicians. Although he had only meager academic schooling, he studied piano, violin, and
French horn, and before he was 12 years old he became a court organist. Christian Gottlob Neefe
was one of his earliest teachers. In 1787 he briefly studied with Mozart and years later left to go to
Vienna to study with Joseph Haydn.
Beethoven s first public appearance in Vienna was on March 29, 1795, as a soloist in one of his
piano concerti. He had developed a great reputation for his music before he left Bonn, Germany.
Once he reached Vienna his music grew wide popularity, and became a

Significance of title The significance of the title of Angela s Ashes is up for debate. The title refers
to McCourt s mother, Angela; however, the ashes can have several different meanings. The ashes
could be related to the destruction of her family and loss of her children: Margaret, Eugene, and
Oliver. When they died, Angela was deeply depressed. Throughout the book McCourt mentions that
his mother glares toward the ashes falling from her cigarettes. Ashes are associated with death, dust,
and cinders. When the family was living in Laman s home they must act like slaves when they

the chamber pot is empty and I m there to run to the shop for his cigarettes, go to the library for

Contractarianism And The Theory Of Contarianism As A...
Contractarianism is a social contract theory that originated as a political theory which then
developed as a theory of morality. Laws are just if, and only if, they reflect terms of a social
contract that free, equal, and rational people would accept as a basis of a cooperative life
together. Actions are morally right because they are permitted by the rules such people have
agreed to live by. If one is to violate such agreements then the action is wrong. Moral rules are
nothing other than special rules of cooperation. Cooperation means there must be an agreement
between two parties, which could mean two different people or it can be society and its people.
To reiterate, contractarianism explains there is no morality until two parties cooperate and accept a
bargain that rewards both parties with a decent life. These people must be free, equal, and fully
rational and their social code must serve as a true standard for what is right and wrong.
Right acts are determined just by its ability to improve quality of life and to limit the direct pursuit
of self interest. They emphasize the importance of creating a social contract because once one
commits to such terms one has an obligation to keep those terms. There are high standards to
uphold. For example, I have an avocado tree, I consider it mine and I benefit from the tree
because I have unlimited access to the avocados. Suppose you have a mango tree outside of your
house and you are in the exact same situation. However, avocado

Operation Crossroads Essay
What happened to Bikini Atoll when the United States had a nuclear weapons test series?
Operation Crossroads was a nuclear test that was held during the summer of 1946 at Bikini
Atoll intended to study the effect of nuclear weapon. There were a total of three tests, Able,
Baker, and Charlie. The first test was codenamed Able. The 23 kiloton bomb was dropped from
the B 29 Superfortress Dave s Dream at July 1, 1946. The bomb detonated at an altitude of 520
feet and 1,500 to 2,000 off from the target ships. The second test was codenamed Baker. The 23
kiloton bomb was put 90 feet underwater. The bomb caused many unusual phenomena that a
conference was held two months later to define new terms for use in descriptions and analysis.
There was originally a third test codenamed Charlie , but it was canceled due to the inability of the
United States to remove the target ships after test Baker. United States should not have conducted

How Women Should Break the Glass Ceiling That Exists...
Social Stratification: How women should break the glass ceiling? The glass ceiling starts to form
itself very early on. Glass ceiling is one of the most compelling metaphors used for analyzing
inequality between men and women in the workplace. Appelbaum Chambliss (1997 : 232) describe
the term glass ceilingas a seemingly invisible barrier to movement into the very top positions at all
levels of employment in business and government, which makes it difficult for women to reach the
top of their professions. We have seen powerful women like Hillary Clinton enter high political
positions. Janet Reno was elected as the first womanAttorney General. Women such as Oprah

They both must first believe that women are equal to men, and then they must act upon it. It is
possible. The glass ceiling can mean different things to different people. I do not feel that
women and other minorities should be given anything that is not deserved. Discrimination will
never be totally abolished, because it has been handed down for generations. The only way to
break the glass ceiling is through actions, not words. We have so much more control over the
glass ceilings inside our brains than the glass ceilings in our environment. And my belief is that
any transformation must first start from within. Be the change you wish to see in the world
(Mahatma Gandhi), although I doubt he would have thought it might apply to glass ceilings.
Women are the first who need to change in this situation in order for there to ever be a
modification and a shatter of this glass ceiling. They must believe that they can not only
succeed, but also that they deserve a chance to succeed. Because the notion that women do not
belong in the workplace has been around for so long, women have started to believe that they
have no place in a career and at least have no place in the upper level, executive job. Believing
that they deserve a better job and equal treatment is the first step that a woman needs to take.
Although she will come across many men who will try to hold her back, a woman needs to press
on. Education also plays an

2. Including a definition of pre and post processing, explain whether you would use read zoom or

Preprocessing refers to manipulation of scan information or data prior to storage in memory
following scan conversion while post processing refers to manipulation of scan data after
storage in the scan converter. Write zoom is associated with preprocessing while read zoom is
associated with post processing (Schirber, 2013, pg. 110). In write zoom, the image is rewritten
with more pixels than the initial image and thus the image is given more definition magnification.
For read zoom, the image is magnified this is like enlarging a photo hence the image will only be
bigger. Therefore, one should use write zoom to image a gall bladder since it gives more details

The Sinking Of The Titanic
A ship bigger than the world had ever seen, three years in the making, took less than three hours
to sink into the depths of the ocean (Fowler; Build ; Yasuda 6; Sinking ; Interesting ; Hall 38;
Stewart 8). In April of 1912, The RMS Titanic hit an iceberg and sank 12,000 feet to the ocean
floor. This incident cost the lives of over 1,500 passengers and crew members, over half the total
people that had been on board ( Sinking ). The Titanic was the largest ship ever built when it
entered service, at 882 feet long, 92 feet wide, and 175 feet high, and was touted as unsinkable
(Hall 19,38; Yasuda 5,7; Hopkinson 25; World s ; Stewart 8). The Titanic disaster was a wake up
call for many people, average citizens and maritime experts alike (Savage). As a result of the
sinking of the so called unsinkable Titanic, exploration into better safety regulations and
shipbuilding techniques occurred. Safety regulations in place at the time of the Titanic disaster
were outdated and ineffective, leading maritime experts to explore ways to improve them. Prior to
the sinking of the Titanic, the 1894 Merchant Shipping Act was the only regulation on how many
lifeboats a ship should have. It dictated how many lifeboats a ship needed, the total number of
which was based upon that ship s tonnage. The Merchant Shipping Act was 20 years old in 1912,
and did not take into account the rapidly increasing size of ships being constructed, since its

This book has taught me far beyond what I expected, perhaps while reading this book I learned
much more about the Genesis 1 account than I ever learned in my entire life. Miller and Soden
might argue that my lack of study in this area is a result of being a group thinker rather than an
individual thinker (30). Looking at both the Young Earth creationism(YEC) and the Old earth
creationism (OEC) views for the first time, I realized that during my time at Moody Bible
Institute I am really seeking to be challenged in my beliefs with by no means making it some kind
of test for orthodoxy. Even though both the YEC and OEC views have strong arguments the aim
of this essay is to demonstrate what I took away from this book which was written by two
advocate of the OEC belief.
At the beginning of the book Miller and Soden argues that the people who ... Show more content on

I particularly enjoyed learning about how the offspring of Abraham that had spent hundreds of
years in exile in Egypt has been affected by their religious beliefs. More specifically their belief
on creation since they have the most similarities with the one in Genesis 1. Miller and Soden said
that sometimes our observation of the world may require us to reconsider our understanding of the
text because we have not adequately understood the text in its original context. I agree with this
statement more than ever before; my mind is blown by this book. Genesis 1:2 talks about the earth
being formless, void. Darkness and deep. Similarly, the Egyptian belied for creation is that the earth
was watery, unilluminated, with darkness and imperceptibility. Additionally, the separation from
the light to darkness occurs in both account. The conundrum of having light created before the sun
is in place in Genesis 1:3, also happen in the Egyptian account light is created before the sun rises

Rhetorical Analysis Of A Thousand Acre By Jane Smiley
This paper will be a unique interpretation coupled with an analysis of rhetoric in A Thousand Acre
s by Jane Smiley. This non fiction novel is told in third person omniscient and is focused on the
point of view of one of the main characters, Ginny Cook. A Thousand Acres was a modern day
retelling of Shakespeare s King Lear; set on a large farmand small town in Iowa. This setting is
important to the plot because it is more realistic compared to a far away mystical land that is
detached from its audience. Smiley uses various rhetorical and literary techniques within her book
to engage readers while still keeping to the basic storyline previously written by Shakespeare.
Smiley s use of language positively aids the imagery and emotions seen... Show more content on

79). This quote shows how Ginny no longer puts her father first and that he Ginny even realizes
that she is built off her presence in their community, I was so remarkably comfortable with the
discipline of making a good appearance! (Smiley, pg. 701). Smiley uses a lot of imagery to
describe what Ginny is feeling and experiencing that is effective at engaging the audience and
almost puts them in her shoes. I personally felt as if I was next to Ginny throughout the whole novel
due to this imagery and language. Larry Cook, father of Ginny, Rose, and Caroline as well as
the main landowner of the thousand acre farm, is the next character to be analyzed. He is
introduced in the book as farmer that is looked up to by his community due to his success. He is
the antagonist within the novel and slowly loses his sanity as the story progresses. This loss of
sanity is due to Larry s power and greed that take over him. It begins with his idea to retire and
give his land evenly to Rose and Ginny, but after this massive life shift occurs he starts acting
irrationally and lashes out at his previous caretakers. The foreshadowing of the major storm
aligns perfectly with Larry s final breaking point with Ginny, His voice modulated into a scream,
Or tell me what I can do and what I can t do. You barren whore! I know all about you, you slut.
(Smiley, pg. 452). After this, Rose talks to Ginny about their father raping them for years,

Bondage Rebellion Definition
You may want to make up a pseudo name, I m told as the silver Honda pulls up to my house. My
friend and I slip into the car and I feel uneasy. We ride in silence, though she occasionally glances
over to give me a reassuring smile. After what feels like a forever, the car stops in a dark, empty
parking lot, and our Uber driver gives me a curious, almost frightful, look. As we walk inside the
bright room, covered wall to wall with padded mats and floor to ceiling with mirrors, my friend
is greeted by unfamiliar people. She tells me later that she knew them from the Internet and they
must have recognized her from her profile. My heart races while I nervously shake everyone s
hands with my sweaty palms. We sign in, using manufactured personas and begin a round of small
talk until the teacher calls us into the center of the room: Alright, who s ready to learn how to tie? ...

sexual preference that society has constructed? Alternative sex practices, such as bondage,

However, the contrast between these acts and society s heteronormative, soft core and monogamous
portrayal of what sex should be directly influences the negative connotation, definition and

Current Environmental Issues In Canada
Current environmental issues facing the Energy Industry in Canada
Canada is considered a world leader in energy production and the role that energy and power play
in the Canadian and global economy is vastly important. At the present time the global energy
industry is in the process of a significant world wide restructuring and the environment in Canada is
at the forefront of this change. The energy system in Canada is involved in many facets of
Canadian life including environmental, economic and social fabric of Canada. Due to its
influences in so many arenas it is important for governments, business and industry, key
stakeholders and the general public to have a clear understanding of the role energy plays and

Airborne Express
Exhibit: Five Forces Outline
1. Barriers to Entry Medium to High for the following reasons: a) Economies of scale the top
three carriers (Federal Express, UPS, and Airborne Express) serve slightly more than 85% of the
domestic express mail market. All three carriers deliver a high volume of packages, and thus, are
able to spread fixed costs over more units. Also, each carrier has integrated technological systems
that improved operational efficiency. In addition, intensive training programs of employees
increase service and delivery efficiency. b) Extremely large capital requirements are necessary to
enter the market. Hub facilities at airports (e.g. FedEx s hub near Dallas cost $250 million); capital
expenditures for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, such avenues of delivery limit the customer s presentation options (cannot bind
business reports / deliverables ). Also, the customer cannot transport a non paper package (e.g. a
book, a desk) via this delivery system. b) Regular mail only cost 32 cents for letters. The post
office is also very convenient. However, in regards to packages, the post office is very poor in
quality service and efficiency (cannot track packages efficiently and has an on time delivery record
much worse than commercial carriers) 3. Bargaining Power of Suppliers Medium for the following
reasons: a) Postal materials numerous suppliers of necessary postal and packaging materials.
Switching costs are not high. The postal materials suppliers have low bargaining power. b) Software
programs combined with extensive customized programming updates / additions. The software and
software customization industries both have numerous suppliers. However, given the complexity
and uniqueness of such an information network, there are probably only a limited number of
software and customization companies that can provide a carrier with a high quality system that is
capable of smoothly integrating all the operation and customer service divisions. Furthermore, the
switching costs have the potential to be extremely high because such a transfer could disrupt
communication between the divisions, leading to poor quality service. In addition, the company

Investigate how PH Affects the Ability of Raw Meat to Absorb Water
I am planning an experiment to investigate how PH affects the ability of raw meat to absorb water.
В· Independent Variable
The independent variable for this experiment is the PH of the solution the steak is marinated in.
I will achieve a range of different PH values by using buffers set at PH 1, 3, 5, 7, 9. I predict that
there will be an optimum PH where the steak will absorb the most water.
The amount of water absorbed by the raw meat will increase as you increase the PH up to the
optimum and then decrease the PH as the PH increases past the optimum.
В· Dependent Variable
The dependent variable for this experiment is the amount of water absorbed by the diced steak by ...

Instead of calculating the difference in mass, I will calculate percentage change in mass to account
for any small differences in mass.
Also a constant surface area of the diced steak is important, otherwise there would be a larger area
for the solution to act on causing more tenderisation therefore altering the overall results.
The temperature at which the meat is marinated at would need to remain constant. At a higher
temperature, molecules are moving faster therefore osmosis is more likely to occur. The experiment
will be conducted at room temperature, although a more scientific method would be the use of an
incubator. I will conduct the experiment in the same place so that each test is experiencing the
same temperature changes.
The time allowed for marination, each steak should be in the buffer solution for 12 hours all
getting the same length of time otherwise a longer time could provide an opportunity for more
water to be absorbed. Drying of the steak pieces, dab twice on each side. If some are dabbed more
than the other it would alter the end percentage change in mass.
В· Method
В® Divide the diced steak into five equally sized piles.
В® Using electronic scales weigh each pile to make the masses as similar as possible. Record the
masses.
В® Add 50ml of buffer solution PH1 to a beaker and repeat the process for the other buffer
solutions.
В® Put one set of diced steak into each beaker.
В® Leave the 5 beakers for 12hours allowing the raw meat to

depression. Even if you re only dealing with a less serious case of nerves, why not take
advantage of this extremely effective stone. Handling discouragement: Eventually, you may
come across rejection. But it s important not to feel discouraged. Hematite is a powerhouse of
absorbing and dissipating negative energy. Use it to keep your spirits up and your next success
will be right around the corner. Combinations: You can use the crystals mentioned above in
combination to address your specific goals and needs. You don t have to use them all, either! I
recommend using a heart chakra crystal (rose quartz or malachite) plus a couple others to play up
your particular strengths. Carnelian plus smokey quartz works well to give you a magnetic appeal.

Coconut oil has many healing qualities and that goes for using coconut oil to treat your allergies.
There are several ways to use coconut oil for your allergies and here you will learn several ways to
do just that!
Using Coconut Oil For Allergies
Every year millions of people suffer from allergies of all kinds and swear they would do just
about anything to make it stop! The usual routine is to go to the doctor where he will tell you that
you have allergies and will then unceremoniously prescribe you some medication or tell you that
you need to buy some Benadryl or other lack luster preventive allergy medication and that you will
have to take it for the rest of your life. You have got to be kidding me! Surely there is something
you can do.

Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which is a natural immune system booster; therefore, consuming
coconut oil whenever you can will help boost your immune system and in turn help relieve your
allergies.
Yeast, aka Candida can really take a toll on your system and is one of the most common
contributors to the seasonal allergy epidemic. Adding coconut oil to your diet will help you battle
yeast overgrowth, which will help you rid yourself of many nasty allergy symptoms.
Another great way to use coconut oil to help get rid of your allergies is through a technique
called oil pulling. Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic technique that dates back 5000 years or so.
It s a method of using coconut oil to detoxify the body and the mouth of a variety of ailments,
which include allergies, eczema, psoriasis, tooth decay and endless other issues as well. Oil
pulling is also said to cleanse your lymph nodes and sinuses, as well as help you rid yourself of

Teaching, Learning, And Student Centered Approaches Essay
Introduction
Throughout this semester, I spent approximately 20 hours aiding teachers as well as learning the
importance of planning. Although teaching is the foundation that we see for the students, it is
important to understand that all of the teaching that occurs can not be done without the planning.
This essay will be informative of the planning, techniques, and models 1st grade English teachers at
the World Language Academy use to be most effective on the students they are teaching, as well as
also explaining the diversity among the students and teachers and how that affects both learning and
teaching. What is so significant about this, in my opinion, is that the classroom I was in uses a
mixture of direct instruction, cooperative learning, and student centered approaches. All of these
methods in one classroom make for a very successful teacher.
World Language Academy
The World Language Academy is an early education(grades K 5) school. The World Language
Academy, or WLA, is an academy that teaches all classes in both English and Spanish. Though
not all teachers can speak both languages, the students are taught both ways in order to excel in
the real world as they become older. As you walk into this building, the receptionist, casually
dressed, giving you a warm homey feel, welcomes you. As you walk down the halls, all covered
with drawings, projects, and poems, you can sense the determination of children and adults without
even walking into a classroom. Curriculum

The Indian Removal Act By President Jackson
The idea of western expansion was promoted in order to strengthen the reputation and the entirety
of the infant country. This was appropriated and romanticized through texts and documents, such as
Manifest Destiny by John C. Calhoun and the message promoting the Indian Removal Act by
President Jackson, which uses various appeals and logical fallacies to persuade the audience on the
ideal benefits and optimistic virtues without the consideration of the Native American demographic.
While expanding, the Americans encountered numerous Native Americans that ranged from a
violent interaction to a peaceful treaty of removal in order to satisfy the American s territorial
cupidity. Despite America resorting back to its founding principles to... Show more content on

Similar to African Americans and women in 1800 s (and arguably now), these Amerindians were
minorities that arguably possessed no value nor contribution the cultivation of the United States.
Ideas initially encouraged by Christopher Columbus, where he refers to Native Americans as
ignorant savage beasts, has been preserved and acknowledged by the Americans where the belief
of inferiority resonates with their perspective of the Native Americans. Immoral as this notion
sounds, the Americans would then enfranchise to urbanization, industrialization, and acquisition
of abundant resources without pondering on the consequences it has on the Native Americans.
In 1830, in order to proceed in territorial aggrandizement, newly inaugurated President Jackson
scribed a congressional message promoting the removal of Indians for the vain benefit of the
United States. In the intermediary of his message, he states a rhetorical question: What good
man would prefer a country covered with forests and ranged by a few thousand savages to our
extensive Republic, studded with cities, towns, and prosperous farms embellished with all the
improvements which art can devise or industry execute, occupied by more than 12 million happy
people, and filled with all the blessings of liberty, civilization, and religion? (Jackson 1) The
inclusion of this rhetorical question is to exclude the care for Native Americans as they are
perceived as savages , and place more stress on the significant

The Effects Of Homelessness On The United States
In Stanislaus county the homeless population has grown from 1,156 in 2005 to 1,800 today and
still growing. Modesto had the highest count of homelessness with 983 documented homeless
individuals according to a 2015 Modesto Bee study and sadly, the amount increases as surrounding
areas begin to enforce strict laws. These laws criminalize and relocate homeless folk to our county.
There are no exceptions to the cold reality of homelessness: men, women, children, military
veterans, individuals, and families are included in the rising numbers of homelessness in Stanislaus
County. According to the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, the leading cause of
homelessness in the United Statesis the lack of affordable housing. Exposing the problems and
cause will allow us to figure out how we can work towards a solution. The answer to diminishing
homelessness is to invest in permanent housing. By working together as a community and devising
a plan, we could reduce and possibly end homelessness in Stanislaus County.
Individuals and families are being kicked from their homes due to the rising costs of living. Some
people can not afford these costs with their annual income and now have forced to the streets or
into homeless shelters. Many people might say that homelessness can never be avoided nor stopped
but there is hope. By creating a monumental moment in effort to end homelessness, New York city
was capable of providing productive results of reducing homelessness in

American Mainstream News Outlets Coverage Of Europe
Correspondents and news coverage
American mainstream news outlets coverage of Europe is extensive yet not complete: Most articles
focus on few issues and regions. Consequently, some countries and issues are under covered,
offering interesting opportunities for a freelancer.
Out of the 28 countries that form the European Union, only Germany, France, Italy and Spain are in
the top 20 list of nations in the United States media, according to the International Communication
Gazette.
Source: International Communication Gazette, 2007
The Gazette published the list in 2007, hence before the economic crisis, the tensions with Russia
and the Greek disaster made Europe a hot spot for news. It is likely that if a similar list was
published today, it would have more European countries and in higher positions. Yet, by reading
almost daily The Washington Post, and browsing often the websites of The New York Times, the
CNN and the NPR, I think what the Gazette wrote in 2007 is still true: The conflict in the Middle
East captured the largest part of the available international newshole, airtime and web space.
Additionally, the U.S. media devoted substantial space to covering the major economic
powerhouses such as Japan and Germany and military giants like Russia and China.
After spending a few hours on Google Scholar, trying to use different combinations of key terms, I
found an interesting research on the coverage of foreign affairs by television networks in 11
countries,

Catcher In The Rye Values
Culture Featured in Catcher in the Rye From the novel Catcher in the Rye, the reader can glean
several morals and values, both positive and negative, of 1950 s American culture. There are
many values that can be observed from the novel, such as emphasis on academic success, the ideal
man, and the appearance and acquisition of wealth. There are many, many values that can be
determined from the novel, but those listed are some of the more prominent ones. Some of the
aforementioned values are debatable in terms of morality and ethics, for example the idea of the
perfect man and the acquisition of wealth, while some are lasting values to this day, i.e. education.

According to Holden, the ideal man is a suave and sexy man that can seduce any girl he wanted,
with or without her consent. Holden is told that he should have sex with anyone and everyone,
and that his statement that he doesn t want to have sex with a girl unless he really likes her is
weak. You know what the trouble with me is? I can never get really sexy I mean really sexy
with a girl I don t like a lot. I mean I have to like her a lot. If I don t, I sort of lose my goddam
desire for her and all. Boy, it really screws up my sex life something awful. My sex life stinks.
(Salinger 59). No one ever told him this position was very admirable. The thing is, most of the
time when you re coming pretty close to doing it with a girl a girl that isn t a prostitute or
anything, I mean she keeps telling you to stop. The trouble with me is, I stop. Most guys don t.
(Salinger 50). This further indicates that Holden is rather admirable when it comes to sex: he
wants the girl s permission before he acts. All of this proves that the 50 s predominantly male
society was entitled to sex with whomever they wanted whenever they wanted

Also it manages to reduce the overhead of maintaining separate tools. Spark provides flexible

different big data tools like it can run on Hadoop clusters.
6.1 A Unified Stack
Figure 1 1. The Spark Stack
Spark is an integration of closely integrated components. These components can be combined to
gather and can be used as if simply including multiple libraries in our project. There are multiple
components in Spark and all are important in their own way and are dependent on each other. Spark
can be considered as a computational engine at its core which is important for scheduling,
monitoring applications and distribution of many applications and contains many computational
tasks throughout the computing clusters. It uses high level components to handle the task
workload such as Machine learning. In Spark, components are closely coupled which has several
advantages such as any improvement in lower layers makes the higher level libraries and
component perform better. Consider the case when the optimization is added, SQL and machine
learning libraries also give better performance. Other most important benefit is that it reduces the
costs of running the stack as it does not have to run different software independently. These costs

American Sniper Compare And Contrast
The term sniper means someone who shoots from a hiding place at a long range with extreme
accuracy. It is said that it takes the average sniper only 1.3 bullets to kill his target. In the
military the sniper has two jobs. The first job is to deliver long range fire on selected targets. The
second job is is to collect and report information about the battlefield. Snipers have been used in the
united states military as far back as the American Civil War, but they were called sharpshooters then.
From then to now both their techniques and technology have changed together. The first part of
being a sniperthat has changed is their weapons. There are many differences between the
American sniper and his rifle between the American Revolution and Now. In the Revolutionary
war snipers used their own hunting rifles. By 1914, the bolt action rifle had been perfected, the
ammunition used was much smaller caliber and had a much higher velocity. The new rounds
were also propelled by smokeless powder, which allowed the sniper to hide much more
effectively. The main sniper rifle used during the Vietnam War was actually made up by a sniper.

Herbal Remedy Use By Latino Immigrant Herbal Remedy Use by Latino Immigrant to the United States John Williams April 23, 2016 Cultural Competence in Healthcare Erin Stegall Introduction The members of the largest ethnic group being granted legal permanent residence in the United States are from Mexico. According the 2010 census 16.3% of the population of the United States is Latino (Spector, 2013). The Latino population will increase to 30 % of the total population by the year 2050 based on current projections (Juckett, 2013). There are several barriers to health care faced by many in the Latino population. They include: language barriers, lack of health insurance, mistrust, not have a legal status and a different culture of health care (Juckett, 2013, p. 48). Juckett also points out that most medications that require a prescription in the US are obtained without prescriptions in immigrants home countries (2013). It is estimated that 20% of the U. S. population use herbal medicine. The prevalence of herbal medicine use by some ethnic and cultural groups in the US may be even higher; one meta analysis found that 4% to 40% (mean 30%) of Latinos living in the United States regularly used herbal medicine (Kiefer, Tellez Giron, Bradbury, 2014, p. 64). The growing number of Latinos in the US and their reliance on herbal remedies is something that healthcare providers are going to have to address to be able to provide culturally competent care to this population. • 4. Importance Of Technology On Education Most people think of the phones in their hand or pocket when they think of technology, but the first roots of technology started all the way back in the Paleolithic Era. This era brought us the first set of stone tools and the famous cave paintings that have helped us learn about the past. Following the Paleolithic Era, we had the Mesolithic and NeolithicEras which both brought us more advanced stone tools and the start of copper tools. After the Meso/Neolithic Eras, we had the Bronze Era which brought us our bronze tools and weapons. The next era was the Iron Age; this age brought us our iron tools and bullets which further improved hunting. Next was the Middle Agesthat gave us our armory and many more improvements on weaponry. Following the Middle Ages, there was the Renaissance, then the Industrial Ages where hundreds of inventions were made like the steam engine and the telegraph which advanced travel and communication. The last era is the Information Age which gave us our phones, computers and the internet. Throughout history, technology has improved and given society many benefits including the improvements of the educational system, medical and the many communication systems. The vast expanses of old and modern technology have pushed us forward in a new stance on education and the system itself. With the use of the internet from their phone and computer/laptop kids and adults alike can go online and read articles, look at powerpoints or Prezi s or watch videos about ... • 5. Michael Merrill Assignment 2 Analysis The art of Michael Merrill has always been seeking to subvert the established system of art. Merrill s recent Apartment complex paintings count among his most sophisticated and daring works to date. He chose the subjects to be not the artwork themselves, but rather their situational contexts and architectural details in which they were exhibited. He wanted to paint from experience, rather than from his own experiments in the surreal. As a result, he was inclined towards subjects that were immediately available to him. Merrill convinces the viewers that the artwork depicted is his to interpret. As a part of his Apartmentseries, Apartment 1, Apartment 2, and Apartment 3 are oil on canvas, finished in 2016. To add, he has related inks on paper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will take in Merrill s way of thinking to ask myself, What was learned? each time I have completed an artwork. This will improve my future techniques and widen my range of perceptions and thoughts. I believe that Michael Merrill was successful in reaching his goal. He wanted to focus on viewing objects in a different way and using light sources to differentiate colour and contrast from night and day. I was unbelievably fascinated with Merrill s way of thinking, as it showed me that there is more than one way to view an object. He so eloquently explained his opinion on his apartment complex that it made me realize that no two people in the world see something the same way. I would consider the building to be not worth of my time to paint, yet Merrill demonstrates his capabilities in a piece of art that I would consider incredible. Strategic Strategy Of The Mp Program The 2007 Joint Program Office Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (JPO MRAP) program differed significantly from normal procurement programs in time of award, selection of vendors, standardization of equipment design before fielding and level of pre production research. The MRAP program acquired off the shelf assets which literally saved lives and provided the US time and space to focus on achieving its stated strategic objectives. The closest process that resembled a rapid fielding initiative before 2007 was the US Marine Corps Urgent Universal Need Statement (UUNS) . Based on its overall success, the unique MRAP program paradigm should be formally used for other major defense acquisition programs in support of combat forces. The strategic... The tactical implications of the surge in a COIN focused execution resulted in risking significantly greater numbers of soldiers to IED attacks. Two critical vulnerabilities of US forces were the insufficient protection platforms for transportation and limited road network available to move troops rapidly. The insurgent s ability in 2006 to attack US ground forces with IEDs was a critical capability which compromised US forces combat mobility and effectiveness. In June 2006, IED incidents reached more than 2,000 per month. At one point in 2006, coalition forces in Iraq were experiencing almost 100 IEDs per day . The DoD acquisition strategy supporting the MRAP rapid fielding initiative is nested within the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System or JCIDS. Although it was an improvement over the previous process known as the requirements generation system or RGS, it proved too glacial in movement due to legislative restrictions and a risk aversion environment within the Pentagon. The JCIDS was geared along strict cumbersome processes and focused almost exclusively on the procurement of future based weapons systems. This mitigated any requirement that demanded purchase in less than 2 to 3 years. • 8. Letter To Ephesians Essay Historical Background In the beginning of the book of Ephesians, Paul specifically states that he is the author of the letter to Ephesians, though the authenticity of Paul s authorship has been questioned. Signing the name of an influential person of the period was common practice from the third century BC to the first century AD. Though it would not be the first time that Paul s name was forged, Ephesians is not a controversial letter, so if the author did not want to include his own name, he could have written the letter anonymously; also, given moral influence of the text, the author would not have lied for no cause. Ephesians is a bit different from the other letters of Paul in that it does not follow the normal structure he has previously used: salutation, thanksgiving, prayer, body, ethical exhortations, greetings. Paul also makes many personal references throughout the book of Ephesians including sharing that he is in prison. During the time the letter was written, most believe that Paul was in a prison in Rome. He wrote three letters at around the same time. One letter was to the Colossians; one letter was to Philemon, whose slave, Onesimus, had recently run away; the final letter was to the church that Paul had started in Ephesus. The messenger that carried the letters to the church of Colossae most likely passed through the sea port and great city at Ephesus. Analysis of PlatoВґs Republic Republic, perhaps Plato s most famous work focusing on justice and its values, is also home to Socrates unique ideas and the challenges that he faces throughout his dialogues with other philosophers. Nevertheless, justice is not the only topic that Plato examines in his work. In the Republic, a simple discussion of the justice and the different characteristics of cities, escalates into a discussion about the souls of individuals. Socrates starts out by offering an agreement to the fact that since cities are made of individuals, their characteristics can also be found in individuals. From his writings, Platoexemplifies most of Socrates arguments towards the development of his own arguments. One very famous theory developed by Plato from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though Socrates attempts to define the three parts of the soul in detail, he is faced with some challenges. Socrates seems unsatisfied with his discovery, as he questions himself whether these parts work individually, or together, each controlling an appropriate portion of the soul. In order to find an appropriate explanation to his question, Socrates brings an example of a soul desiring a drink, and a soul that is desires to get a drink. He claims that although driven by the same desire of thirst, these are different. However, the souls can never desire completely opposite things at the same exact time. For example, if one part of the soul wants a drink, and the other part desires to get a drink, the third part cannot forbid itself from taking a drink. Aside from defining the different parts of the soul, Socrates also needs to prove that the souls can be viewed as having virtues, just like the cities. The city originated by Socrates in the theory is a entirely good city. In his words, it is wise, courageous, moderate and just (Republic 4.427d). Socrates presents each virtue (wisdom, courage, moderation, and justice) in the city. Now, he is determined to show that the same virtues exist within individuals. Consequently, Socrates proves that justice is comfort for the soul and henceforth beneficial to the soul. (444c 445a). Socrates divides sets each virtue where he believes they belong. It was very hard to see any distance ahead of her while walking in the heavy cover. She was following some sort of game trail that skirted the side of the mountain but away from the openness of the stream. She turned a corner and started down a gradual slope when something dark caught her eyes on the trail ahead. It was two black bear cubs rolling around and wrestling with each other. She stood and watched their comical antics and couldn t help but chuckle at how much they looked like little children who teased and poked and chased each other in play. One cub would wrap its arm around the other s neck and chew on its ear. Then the victim would break away and circle right back to jump on the back of its sibling. All thoughts left her mind for a few moments as she saw them play in their wild home. She had never been so close to animals like this before and was riveted in place by fascination. Then Christopher got restless, cried aloud, and suddenly both cubs stopped playing and looked towards her. When they saw her standing there, they became alarmed and separated. Each one ran up a separate tree by the path. Once in the trees they looked her way and then bawled loudly. It was a noise that sounded like a deep Maaww, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. The World And Human Beings Scripture: The event of creation stands as the first time God shows His existence even though He existed before creation took place. We also see that Christ was a being who lived with God and without Him there could be nothing (1 John 1:1 3). During the actual event of creation (Gen 1), God took six complete days to finish it. He created everything from the heavens to the earthand all that lives within them. He created light and darkness, land and water and separated them, and animals that roam the earth and the sea. He then created man in His own image so that we could rule the earth and all that lives in it. During the event of creation we see that Godis the creator of all things and the Lord of all things. We are to give Him praise for His creation of the world and human beings (Revelation 4:11). He created His Son as a visible image of Him who is the invisible image. He created the heavens and the earth, and shows his authority over evil on earth. He does not stop evil, but He clears a path for us to avoid and get away from evil. He sent His Son to reconcile us back to God (Colossians 1:16 20). This passage shows that God is the creator of all things and has power over everything that has been created. He created everything from nothing that is visible. Christ sustains the world and without Him there would be complete chaos. • 20. Relationship Between Scottie And Stephanie In Veertigo Alfred Hitchcock s 1958 drama Vertigo explores the mystery and relationship through ex detective Scottie and elusive Madeleine. Although some see it as a love story hidden within a psychological thriller, it is also a critique of cinema, gender, and the sexist issues of the time. The dynamics between Scottie and Midge and Scottie and Madeleine/Judy demonstrate these issues. Hitchcock uses Scotties character to portray the uncomfortable male centric viewpoint of most films through plot, mise en scene, and character blocking. From the beginning of the film, the power in the relationship between Scottie and Midge illustrates Scottie s struggle with masculinity. Midge is an independent, working, capable woman who broke off her and Scottie s engagement.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once Scottie believes he has lost Madeleine, his perfect, elusive woman, he becomes obsessed with the familiarity he finds in Judy. He expresses no interest in knowing Judy herself, as the film does not capture any of this. Instead, it captures his insatiable desire to once again discover Madeleine, the dream woman that will solve his insecurities within his masculinity. This desire is explained through his literal makeover of Judy, buying her new clothes, having her hair dyed, having it done a certain way, etc. When trying on suits an employee in the store comments that Scottie knows exactly what he wants, the disturbing problem in that being that anything less than his illusion of Madeleine will be unacceptable to him. Another way Scottie consumes Judy is through positioning in shots. Whereas Midge is seen as above Scottie, often literally as in their primary scene, Hitchcock uses the kissing scene between Judy and Scottie to show him progressively becoming literally above and on top of her, crushing and smothering her beneath him. Furthermore, Judy s character becomes more and more corpse like as the film progresses. When she is finally transformed into Madeleine, she is depicted in green and foggy light, making her appear both haunting and ghostly. Even when she is being made over, when her hair is being died, she looks like a body being prepared for her funeral. The kissing scene mentioned earlier acts in the same way, her being crushed by him makes her appear lifeless. Whether she is dead or alive, Hitchcock shows the viewer that it does not matter to Scottie. The deepening of this throughout the film, culminating in Judy being actually dead and destroyed beneath Scottie from the window, exposes the overwhelming and unhealthy nature in his seemingly affectionate feelings towards ... State Supreme Courts have made a few rulings on the constitutionality of student led prayer at voluntary school events such as ballgames and graduation ceremonies, but there has been no national outline on what practices are legal and illegal. Also, moments of silence are currently under debate, with the court ruling usually hinging on whether or not the moment is implemented to encourage prayer(ACLU). There are many practical reasons why people argue for the integration of prayer into the curriculum of public schools. The most commonly cited reason for this is that children need the moral and ethical guidance that religion taught in the classroom will provide them. While almost everyone agrees that religious indoctrination is the responsibility of the parents, since many parents are seen as neglecting the duty to sufficiently teach their children, Christianity must be taught in public schools. He is known for some of the most influential pieces of music ever written, Ludwig van Beethoven created a bridge between the 18th century classical period and the new beginnings of Romanticism. His greatest breakthroughs in composition came in his instrumental work, including his symphonies. Beethoven had a very hard childhood. He was 1 of 7 children, many of which never lived to adulthood. His family was very poor. His father was an alcoholic with a very bad temper and was very hard on him, however this did not affect his love for music. He became the breadwinner of the family at 18 years of age due to his father s death in 1792, which caused their family to grow deeper into poverty. Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany, however there is no actual record of his date of birth. Beethoven got his musical training from his father and grandfather who were also musicians. • 32. Contractarianism And The Theory Of Contarianism As A... Contractarianism is a social contract theory that originated as a political theory which then developed as a theory of morality. Laws are just if, and only if, they reflect terms of a social contract that free, equal, and rational people would accept as a basis of a cooperative life together. Actions are morally right because they are permitted by the rules such people have agreed to live by. If one is to violate such agreements then the action is wrong. Moral rules are nothing other than special rules of cooperation. Cooperation means there must be an agreement between two parties, which could mean two different people or it can be society and its people. To reiterate, contractarianism explains there is no morality until two parties cooperate and accept a bargain that rewards both parties with a decent life. These people must be free, equal, and fully rational and their social code must serve as a true standard for what is right and wrong. Right acts are determined just by its ability to improve quality of life and to limit the direct pursuit of self interest. They emphasize the importance of creating a social contract because once one commits to such terms one has an obligation to keep those terms. There are high standards to uphold. The only way to break the glass ceiling is through actions, not words. We have so much more control over the glass ceilings inside our brains than the glass ceilings in our environment. And my belief is that any transformation must first start from within. Women are the first who need to change in this situation in order for there to ever be a modification and a shatter of this glass ceiling. Including a definition of pre and post processing, explain whether you would use read zoom or write zoom to image a gallbladder. Preprocessing refers to manipulation of scan information or data prior to storage in memory following scan conversion while post processing refers to manipulation of scan data after storage in the scan converter. Write zoom is associated with preprocessing while read zoom is associated with post processing (Schirber, 2013, pg. 110). In write zoom, the image is rewritten with more pixels than the initial image and thus the image is given more definition magnification. For read zoom, the image is magnified this is like enlarging a photo hence the image will only be bigger. Therefore, one should use write zoom to image a gall bladder since it gives more details and an image of high quality. 3. The Sinking Of The Titanic A ship bigger than the world had ever seen, three years in the making, took less than three hours to sink into the depths of the ocean (Fowler; Build ; Yasuda 6; Sinking ; Interesting ; Hall 38; Stewart 8). In April of 1912, The RMS Titanic hit an iceberg and sank 12,000 feet to the ocean floor. This incident cost the lives of over 1,500 passengers and crew members, over half the total people that had been on board ( Sinking ). The Titanic was the largest ship ever built when it entered service, at 882 feet long, 92 feet wide, and 175 feet high, and was touted as unsinkable (Hall 19,38; Yasuda 5,7; Hopkinson 25; World s ; Stewart 8). The Titanic disaster was a wake up call for many people, average citizens and maritime experts alike (Savage). As a result of the sinking of the so called unsinkable Titanic, exploration into better safety regulations and shipbuilding techniques occurred. Safety regulations in place at the time of the Titanic disaster were outdated and ineffective, leading maritime experts to explore ways to improve them. Prior to the sinking of the Titanic, the 1894 Merchant Shipping Act was the only regulation on how many lifeboats a ship should have. It dictated how many lifeboats a ship needed, the total number of which was based upon that ship s tonnage. The Merchant Shipping Act was 20 years old in 1912, and did not take into account the rapidly increasing size of ships being constructed, since its inception. According to the Merchant ... Looking at both the Young Earth creationism(YEC) and the Old earth creationism (OEC) views for the first time, I realized that during my time at Moody Bible Institute I am really seeking to be challenged in my beliefs with by no means making it some kind of test for orthodoxy. I agree with this statement more than ever before; my mind is blown by this book. Genesis 1:2 talks about the earth being formless, void. Darkness and deep. Similarly, the Egyptian belied for creation is that the earth was watery, unilluminated, with darkness and imperceptibility. This non fiction novel is told in third person omniscient and is focused on the point of view of one of the main characters, Ginny Cook. A Thousand Acres was a modern day retelling of Shakespeare s King Lear; set on a large farmand small town in Iowa. This setting is important to the plot because it is more realistic compared to a far away mystical land that is detached from its audience. I personally felt as if I was next to Ginny throughout the whole novel due to this imagery and language. Larry Cook, father of Ginny, Rose, and Caroline as well as the main landowner of the thousand acre farm, is the next character to be analyzed. He is introduced in the book as farmer that is looked up to by his community due to his success. He is the antagonist within the novel and slowly loses his sanity as the story progresses. This loss of sanity is due to Larry s power and greed that take over him. It begins with his idea to retire and give his land evenly to Rose and Ginny, but after this massive life shift occurs he starts acting irrationally and lashes out at his previous caretakers. The foreshadowing of the major storm aligns perfectly with Larry s final breaking point with Ginny, His voice modulated into a scream, Or tell me what I can do and what I can t do. You barren whore! Investigate how PH Affects the Ability of Raw Meat to Absorb Water I am planning an experiment to investigate how PH affects the ability of raw meat to absorb water. I will achieve a range of different PH values by using buffers set at PH 1, 3, 5, 7, 9. I predict that there will be an optimum PH where the steak will absorb the most water. Instead of calculating the difference in mass, I will calculate percentage change in mass to account for any small differences in mass. Also a constant surface area of the diced steak is important, otherwise there would be a larger area for the solution to act on causing more tenderisation therefore altering the overall results. The temperature at which the meat is marinated at would need to remain constant. At a higher temperature, molecules are moving faster therefore osmosis is more likely to occur. The experiment will be conducted at room temperature, although a more scientific method would be the use of an incubator. I will conduct the experiment in the same place so that each test is experiencing the same temperature changes. The time allowed for marination, each steak should be in the buffer solution for 12 hours all getting the same length of time otherwise a longer time could provide an opportunity for more water to be absorbed. Drying of the steak pieces, dab twice on each side. If some are dabbed more than the other it would alter the end percentage change in mass. В· Method В® Divide the diced steak into five equally sized piles. В® Using electronic scales weigh each pile to make the masses as similar as possible. Record the masses.
