A Cochlear Implant Is An Electronic Device That Substitutes
A Cochlear Implant is an electronic device that substitutes the damaged part of the inner ear to
send signals to the brain. It is used by profoundly deaf or severely deaf people. The first Cochlear
Implant was invented in the year of 1961 by Dr. William F. House. He was an american otologist,
medical researcher, and physician, born December 1st, 1923 died December 7th, 2012. Dr. William
F. House started the process of developing the Cochlear Implantduring the late 1950s, after
obtaining knowledge of other experiments going on. He decided to put his focus on ear, nose,
throat and later decided to focus strictly on the ear when parents brought him two young kids they
believed were deaf. Dr. House performed the first Cochlear Implant surgery... Show more content

Secondly the sound processor forwards the codes to what s called the coil on the outside to the
implant. After that the implant changes the code into electrical pulses and sends them out
through the nerves. Lastly the cochlear nerve is stimulated and it sends out waves to the brain
that are interpreted as sound. Over time the cochlear implant has had technology advances as
well as the size becoming smaller and easier for deaf people to use. This surgical implant has
both its benefits and disadvantages for the deaf. One of the benefits of the Cochlear Implant is
the hearing improvement, people with them have the ability to interact more from hearing
conversations, makes it to where less effort is needed to understand others. It also helps children
in school, present and future. The overall benefit for everyone is they ll be able to adventure out
more and it keeps them safer being able to hear. The downside of the implant is how expensive
the process is, and how many people have to pass up the opportunity because of the cost. Another
is that the sounds can be hurtful at first to the person and adjusting could take time. The procedure
for the Cochlear Implant is a disadvantage as well because of the risk that all surgical procedures
have, and the damage that could happen to the ear itself or face. The deaf community s feelings
about the Cochlear Implant is controversial, some believe that if one is born deaf then that s what

Social Tension Surrounding The United States Essay
Introduction
In what has become known as the issue of the century by many (Buchanan, 2015), immigration
has been a topic of debate and an area of sociological tension for several decades in the United
States. It can be seen daily in our newspapers, television shows and especially in America politics.
In fact, it could be argued that this form of social tension in the United States goes as far back as
1492 when Christopher Columbus first stepped foot on what is now North America. It was from
this point that social tension surrounding immigration into the modern United States truly began
between early European explorers and the existing Native Americans.
Social tension surrounding immigration began to peak when large scale immigration into the
United States started in the late 1800 s. In the early days of immigration into the United States the
social tension surrounded the diaspora of the Native Americans which lead to the creation of indian
reservations (cite US History.org). This early social tension primarily surrounded the obtainment of
land and the establishment of property. As we move forward into history, modern immigration
tension in America is more focused on immigration from Mexico.
This paper will explore immigration into the United States and help determine why it is a source of
social tension. Some groups suggest that immigration threatens America s resources and should be
better controlled while others suggest that immigration is vital to the success of

Wendell Ford Informational Piece
Wendell Ford Informational Piece Wendell Ford was born on September 8, 1924 in Daviess
County, Kentucky, and, after graduating from Daviess County High School in 1942, attended the
University of Kentucky. Two years later, Ford enlisted in the army and served for two years
before his honorable discharge in the summer of 1946 and continued to serve in the National
Guard until 1962 (Quisenberry). He married Jean Neel on September 18, 1943; he has two children
and five grandchildren (Kentucky). In 1965 Ford ran for the state senate edging out a win by only
305 votes. In this, his only state senate term, he introduced twenty two pieces of legislation that
were ratified and became laws. Two years later Ford became Lt. Governor and in 1971 went on to
serve as Kentucky s 49th governor (Cross). As governor, Wendell Ford created a budget surplus by
passing a severance tax on coal, a two cent per gallon tax on gasoline, and an increase in the
corporate tax rate. He used this surplus to remove the state sales tax on food, implement several
construction projects, sharply increase funding for higher education, and local public schools. With
the large budget surplus, Ford proposed several construction projects and sharply increased funding
for higher education, the public schools, and human resources (Regional Training Center). By
reorganizing and combining several executive departments, he created super cabinets, Ford saving
the state more money and making the state government more

Social Theories Of Mass Shootings
Mass shootings happen a lot more frequently in the world than most of us probably know.
However, every mass shooting that has been documented and investigated have the same main
question behind it; Why did the attacker choose to do this? Many times, our assumptions are all
we have. Investigation analyses the entire situation as much as it can to make sure our
assumptions, if needed, are as accurate as possible. However, there are a lot of theories and social
situations that pertain to mass shootings as well. On July 20th, 2012, one of the deadliest mass
shootinghad occurred in Aurora, Colorado. A man by the name of James Holmes had been the
attacker behind this mass shooting. Just a couple weeks prior to the shooting, Holmes bought a
ticket online for a midnight showing of The Dark Night Rises at the local movie theater in
Aurora. The night he attended the showing, left shortly after through one of the rear doors. He
proceeded to leave the door open and headed towards the parking lot. Soon later, he returned.
Not even 20 minutes after the movie had begun, Holmes began shooting vigorously at the
audience. Holmes is dressed head to toe in protective gear a ballistic helmet, protective gear for
his legs, throat and groin, black gloves and a gas mask. (Library, 2017) First, Holmes threw two
tear gas canisters into the theater, and after they exploded, that s when we began to start shooting.
By the end of that tragic night, there were several injured and some even dead. Ten

Memory Rehearsal
Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the impacts of chunking information on memory recall,
testing the hypothesis chunking or categorization has a positive effect on memory recall . The
undergraduate Psychology students (648) from Western Sydney University partook in this
experiment. Participants were given a list of random and chunked words respectively and were
asked to recollect as many words as possible. The lists contained 25 words with the first word list
arranged randomly and the chunked list consisting of 5 distinct groups containing 5 words each.
The results from the experiment exhibited a notable difference between the number of words
recollected from the two lists, supporting the proposed hypothesis as well as previous ... Show more

A Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Of Nebraska Deq, The Papio...
Due to results from a sanitary sewer evaluation of the Nebraska DEQ, the Papio Branch water
treatment plant s (WTP) must place a permanent flow meter at the site of the discharge point where
flow is outputting to the reservoir.
The discharge (decant flow) flow in the pipe varies from continuous to intermittent through the 10
inch gravity ductile iron pipe that is a free fall discharge into the reservoir. The discharge point is a
concrete headwall where the Doppler wave meter will be placed permanently.
A temporary Teledyne Isco 2150 flow meter was placed at the site of the discharge for a period of
24 hours to determine the performance of a meter at the site as well as evaluate current flow
conditions. The temporary metering was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Figure 2: Teledyne Isco Signature Flow Meter Diagram
The basics needed in order to install the area velocity signature meter are the meter module, a cable,
probe, band, screws/mounting devices, power supply, and outputs. The prices listed below are
quotes from a Teledyne Isco sales representative.
Signature Area Velocity flow meter system: starts at $3,700 o This includes the meter, the sensor,
a 32.8 foot cable, a manual, and a pocket guide. The price may change if other options are added.
Sensor carrier for attachment to the mounting rings: $50
Spring Ring for a 10 inch pipe: $91
8 foot power cord: $25
Analog 4 20mA output with two channels: $310
Internal seven digit mechanical totalizer: $115 o Total (minimum for all listed options): $4,291
If the pipe has silting or ragging issues, then a Laser Flow Meter should be used instead of the
Area Velocity meter. The Laser Flow meter is a non contact Doppler meter that provides all of
the same information as the area velocity meter without having a sensor in the water. The benefit
of this would be if the pipe has ragging issues or there is a lot of silting/debris that could
potentially get stuck on the probe and cause the probe to not read the way it should be. This is a
much more expensive option it would provide data without the worry of silt/debris or ragging of
the pipe getting in the way. Costs for this type of meter are listed below.
Signature Laser Flow meter system: starts at $9,750 o This includes

The Road To Democracy Was More Difficult For France
The road to democracy was more difficult for France than for England because they still had
many people who wanted to keep a Monarchy and keep France ruled by a king and queen or by
military rule. This made the road to Democracy more difficult for France because it stirred up
conflicts between the people in France who wanted democracy and the people in France who
wanted to keep the monarchy. The first main conflict that happened was with the creating of the
Third Republic. This was a government the French created after the Franco Prussian war. The
reason this stirred up conflict was because during the 1880 s and 1890 s, the Third Republic was
threatened by the monarchists, clergy and aristocrats who wanted to keep the monarchy, and army
leaders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overtime, during the 1600 s and 1700 s many missionaries and fur trappers and other French
colonists came to Canada and lived with the Native Americans. Some of the French who came
even intermarried with some of the Native Americans. Eventually, Britain came to power and
took control of Canada in 1763 after defeating France in the French and Indian war. After Britain
took power, many English speaking people settled into Canada. Most of these English speaking
people who settled were from Great Britain and some were loyalist Americans. During Britain s
control of power in Canada, Britain s parliament eventually split Canada into two new
providences. The two providences were Upper Canada and Lower Canada. Today Upper Canada
is now Ontario and Lower Canada is now Quebec. The reason for Britain s parliament splitting
Canada into Upper Canada and Lower Canada was because of conflict between two religions.
The two religions were Roman Catholic and Protestant. Both religious groups wanted to have a
bigger voice in controlling their own affairs which led to conflict between the two religions. After
both religions kept pressuring Britain to give them these powers, Britain finally gave in and split
Canada into two providences in 1791. This now became Upper Canada and Lower Canada.
The people who lived in the colony of Upper Canada were people made up of an English speaking
majority.

The Importance Of Stage Directions In Shakespeare s Romeo...
In the very beginning of Act 1, Scene 1 of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, there is a fight
between the Montagues and the Capulets servants about them biting their thumbs at each other;
biting their thumbs at each other was a sign of disrespect. The variations in the intonation, tones,
and stage directions in the four different variations of the scene, show the viewer or the audience
how differently they were created and how each director has different ideas about how it should
look and sound. They had different ideas about how to show the emotions of the characters. The
stage directions in the first scene by George Cukor are pretty general. They show how the
characters do have a rivalry with each other. During the fight, you could tell that each person had
different directions to follow during the fight. During the second scene by Alvin Rakoff, they had
more emotionin their actions, which you could tell was through their stage directions. The director
had a different idea about the part when Sampson asks a question quietly to... Show more content on

An example of this is when Sampson is up against the wall with the Montagues surrounding him,
he sounds very scared and like he does not want to disrespect them at all and as if he never did.
In the one by Alvin Rakoff, the actors use different tones than the actors did in the first one. For
example, they never once had a tone that suggested that they may be nervous or scared. They
showed confidence and courage with their tones. The scene created by Franco Zeffirelli has very
confident tones radiating from the actors. They each do not show fear. Their voices show us that
they both think they are better than the other. In the last scene by Baz Luhrmann, there are very
intense tones being put to use. They show their anger very obviously, rather than maybe trying to
cover it a bit more, like in the other

Eva Braun s Definition Of The Word Evil
How could the woman behind the most deviant man in the history of the world go somehow
unnoticed. Was she a possible helping hand in what was the worst genocide in recent history?
Eva Braun is quite possibly the second hand definition of the word evil. Was her life really like
this? Could a women that lived a seemingly normal life be capable of such heinous crimes? Eva
Braunwas a right hand man to one of history s most notorious criminals, but perhaps in her own
light was not quite the woman that everybody makes her out to be.
Something that many people do not know about Eva is that, she was a simple woman who lived a
seemingly simple life. Eva Braun was born on February 6, 1912 to Friedrich and Franziska Braun,
in Munich Germany(3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun never shared an intimate moment together or so it seems (Nobody
knew Hitler s true sexuality so this may of had an impact)(3).Their relationship was strictly
domestic and relaxatory rather than the usual erotic relationship that many couples share
today(9). They were merely close friends that thrived off of each others joy and companionship
in times of need(3). Another part of their relationship that was different than most is that it was
completely private. Hitler and Eva rarely appeared in public together(9). Even if they did, they
would not sit together or give any evidence that they were even acquaintances of one another(8).
This was hard on Eva, as she longed for his attention. She would often cry when he was not
around and it was apparent that he had a significant impact on her mood. She even went to
lengths as trying to take her own life at one point in time because she did not think she would
ever be good enough for him(3). This proved to change the views that Hitler had on the
relationship, as it started to drastically change(8). Soon after the incident they moved in together
and Eva started to arrange gatherings for Hitler s closest friends otherwise known as his inner
circle . It was not long after that they started to live together that they were married. It was in April
of 1945 in Berlin where the ceremony happened, tragically a day before both of their deaths.
Although they were close companions for many years, Eva never did

High Stakes Testing Dilemmas
The goal of education is to impart knowledge, wisdom, life skills, morals and values into the
multitude of students we teach. This obligation is not only directed toward our work with
students but is indicative of how we should strive to function each and every day as educators
serving with high ethical standards. There is a lot of pressure on teacher during the high stakes
testing season but this should not influence educators to behave in any manner that would be
unethical for any reason. I am pleased and relieved to say that I have not witnessed blatant
cheating as I have operated in the capacity of a building test coordinator. The only issued I
encountered was a colleague asked to view the test so she could prepare her students. The

Enlightenment In Japan

Mastering Enlightenment by Doing Less: A Comparative Approach of the Difficulty of Achieving
Enlightenment in Zen and Pure Land Traditions in Japan
I plan to do a comparative paper examining the difficulty of achieving enlightenment in Japan. More
specifically, I will examine achieving enlightenment in the Zen tradition versus achieving
enlightenment in the Pure Land tradition of Mahayana Buddhism. I hypothesize that it will be
determined that it is significantly easier to achieve enlightenment in the Pure Land tradition than in
the Zen tradition.
To depict my hypothesis, I will utilize insights into this topic provided by Shinran, which will
discuss the Pure Land view of this argument, and DЕЌgen Zenji, which ... Show more content on

As stated above, those that practice the Zen school of Buddhism must look within themselves for
enlightenment and thus must be self disciplined; however, I intend to go into detail as to how in
Pure Land Buddhism one does not have to rely on themselves, rather, they need only to rely on
the power of Amida. From the teachings of Shinran it is written that anyone who recites the
phrase Namu Amida Butsu will be born in the Pure Land where they will be able to receive
enlightenment (Park 1991, 95). Discussing the different rituals in each tradition will lead to an
examination of self power versus other power which will further justify why it is easier to attain
enlightenment in the Pure Land tradition. I will describe self power versus other power through
looking at Shinran s explanation of the matter. This contains information surrounding his emphasis
on complete reliance and faith in Amida as necessary to be saved (other power). I will address the
stark contrast this poses with the Zen tradition where sole reliance on oneself and ones mind are
necessary for enlightenment (Park 1991, 93). I anticipate that one might argue that one is not
achieving enlightenment for themselves in the Zen tradition because they are being trained by a
Zen Master. This can be countered because while Zen Masters teach practices, their students
physically and mentally preform these practices for themselves. Through the above debated
perspectives, I will conclude that it is less work to achieve enlightenment in the Zen tradition, as
one does and can rely on Amida for salvation instead of relying on

Emancipation Proclamation Dbq
The Emancipation Proclamation was presidential executive order given by Abraham Lincoln on
January 1, 1963. It changed the Federal legal status of enslaved people in the South from slave
to free. This proclamation ordered all ten states to free slaves. This proclamation excluded areas
not in the rebellion. The reason these areas were excluded is because the proclamation was
issued under the president s authority to suppress rebellion and it was not passed by Congress as
a law. The Southern Confederate supporters were given sixty days to surrender their slaves or
they would face confiscation of their land and slaves. This proclamation did not ban slavery or

The Battle of Gettysburg is one of the most important events to occur in the American Civil War.
The Federals were attacked by the Confederates from the left and the right. General Robert E.
Lee learned that the Army of Potomac was on its way and he assembled his army in the
Harrisburg. When he arrived, he found that two Union brigades had arrived the day before. By
July 2nd, the Union Army had strong forces in Culp s Hill and Cemetery Ridge. General Lee
decided to attack the Federals where they already were. It was a devastating defeat for the
Confederates. The Union lost 23,000 men. The Confederate lost 28,000 men. This battle turned
the Civil War in the Union s favor. Major General Ulysses S. Grant and his Army met on the
Mississippi River in the Summer of 1863. They trapped a Confederate Army under the control of
Lt. Gen. John Pemberton. He surrendered to General Grant because he was out numbered two to
one. He surrendered on July 4th. Grant s activities at Vicksburg was considered one of the most

Importance Of Human Rights
Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever their nationality, place of residence,
sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, language, or any other status. The principle of
universality of human rights is the foundation of international human rights law.
New York City Commission on Human Rightsalso committed to obey that, people are all equally
entitled to their human rights and to live free from discrimination. These rights are interrelated,
interdependent and indivisible. International human rights principles require states to promote and

cultural systems.
Human rights are civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. They include the right to

based on the convention and belief of value for the people. The fundamental assumptions of the
human rights are moral and rational to treat with dignity to every individual, because they are

Rural Officers Vs Urban Officers Essay
One stress factor that many small town officers face is that everyone knows that are an officer
even when they are off duty, while larger town officers can blend in. This allows the urban
officers to get away from the duties of an officer. This effect causes higher levels of stress with
rural officers since they don t find the down time they need to relax. Relaxing and time away is
something that all working individuals need from time to time. There is also the problem of
being called out for service, the officer in a rural area is likely to know the individuals involved,
which may include victims or suspects. There s a chance that the officer could be related to or be
friends with one of the involved parties. This could create problems in undermining authority and
credibility. Due to being in the small town, it could be more difficult for officers to find an outlet
where they can talk about their feelings on particular calls. The idea behind the article was to
identify small town officers and differentiate their characteristics from larger town officers. A small

Despite the amount of pay per year, rural officers are just as effective with solving crimes as urban
officers. Professionalism does not necessarily define who is better at crime solving. In fact, urban
officers tend to have less crimes solved per officer or arrested individuals cleared (Falcone, Wells,
Weisheit, 2000). This is probably due to the fact that small town officers work together with the
community to improve the chances of individuals being cleared or arrested. The closeness that is
exhibited in a small town gives officers the opportunity to know the citizens they serve, they gain
trust and respect between both sides, which results in individuals coming forward with information
that could aid in an

The stage performance is also a great factor into putting on a good show. That is no problem for
bruno mars. Bruno mars always has everyone moving when he steps onto the stage. Bruno mars
shows any gig he plays in that no matter how old you are, you will be on your feet dancing to the
music. Mars does this by coming up with great dance choreography and having great background
dancers to back him up. The entrance to the show needs to be perfect in order to get the audience
moving with you. He opened the show with amazing lights and hit the stage with his tight dance
moves with his other stage dancers. Each step was in unison with everyone else and it looked
like no one skipped a step. This perfection went on throughout the entire performance. When a
different beat came on, a new dance move came out. In the middle/ending of the song, the lights
dimmed and he appeared on the stage with four new dancers. The beat dropped and a new one
came on for about a minute of the performance. No singing went on and all there was was
dancing. You can tell hours went into just this little minute of the performance because the way he
presented the dance was abstract and you can tell that everyone was on beat and where they were
suppose to be. Not many singers can break it down in a dance like Bruno Mars did.
Mars connected to the audience members as well as people at home judging by all

What is COBRA Insurance?
COBRA medicinal insurance, short for the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act was
passed by Congress in 1986, to verify that individuals would not abruptly lose insurance on the off
chance that they were terminated from, lost, resigned, quit, or were generally give up from their
occupations. It was the first enactment of its kind to shield employees and their families from all

more awful needing to go without health care by any means. It is likewise to a great degree
imperative to individuals with previous health conditions on the grounds that it offers them constant

I Will Survive
If you re looking for a science fiction adventure that will not be soon forgotten, a movie that takes
a somewhat realistic how to guide for surviving on an inhospitable planet, or if you just want a
movie that is a blast from liftoff to landing, this movie might just be the best choice. You will not
only be enthralled by the cinematography and special effects, but the acting and the upbeat tone
make this movie truly stellar. Directed by Ridley Scott and based on the book by Andy Weir, the

However, as sure as I Will Survive is the main theme of this movie, he retains this childlike optimism
throughout this movie, making wisecracks and jokes throughout the entire film. The acting and
cinematography, as mentioned before, is also stellar. Although it may seem rather dull to some
viewers, I thought Dariusz Wolski made a rather realistic, albeit bland, Martian landscape. Still,
the landscape shots were impressive to say the least. Also, I enjoyed the performances of the
actors. Primarily, I thought Matt Damon s chipper portrayal of the NASA botanist was amazing.
Meanwhile, the rest of the cast was memorable, including Jessica Chastain s character, Captain
Lewis. Finally, and this is perhaps the most well known fact about The Martian, the science in this
movie hits the nail on the head. The details put into this movie, from the technology used for the
missions to how he plans to escape the red deathtrap, shows a level of care for the science part of
science fiction. This movie will blast off into a captivating and thrilling adventure that will take you

Offered And Bewildered Summary
The text, Bothered and Bewildered by Katha Pollitt started from the statistical data about unwed
mothers and developed to the discussion of marriage and social discrimination between male and
female.
The author mentions the percentage who have become mothers without marrying has more than
doubled in the last decade, and public criticize the Feminism, promiscuity, the media, the 60 s for
this increase. However, the author asks us to consider if marriage no longer serves woman very
well. Historically, women wed men to gain money and stable social status, yet in the 1990s , during
which this article was wrote, women are getting the right to earn money themselves, thus they are
able to be independence from men. Furthermore, by revealing the feeble purpose beneath the
discussion about unwed mother by the public, asking woman to self sacrifice, the author shows us
that the best method in helping unwed mothers is treat two sexes equally so that they will both
have the ability to be independence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The increased percentage of unwed mothers in America during 1990s is largely due to the
females born in 1970 s. They were influenced by their parents, who have been through the World

During the war, many men, who used to be labor in economic, were sent to the battlefield and

The Democracy Of Canadian Society
Canadians, like citizens of numerous countries around the world, take pride in living in a
democratic nation. While Canada is unequivocally a democracy, there are certain aspects of the
system that call into question its true democratic nature. The electoral system Canada currently has
in place is undemocratic and unjust, as it undermines millions of citizens rights to vote. This has
influenced a great deal of subsequent apathy and indifference toward politics in the masses, and
democracyno longer seems to be a benchmark of Canadian society.
It is imperative that Canada implement sweeping electoral reform to reintroduce balance and
fairness into politics, and reinject democracy into Canadian society. The current First Past the Post,

The first step is the same; votes are tallied up for candidates, and whichever ones have the most
votes are sent to Parliament Hill. This step fills only half the seats in the House of Commons.
Once this process is completed, attention shifts to the second part of the ballot, as individual
votes for each party are counted. Once these numbers are announced, the remaining half of the
seats are distributed among all parties, in accordance with how many seats had already been won
in the first step, to ensure the final seat count is proportionate to the percentage of votes each
party received. Since the second half of the seats are assigned to a party and not to a specific
candidate, it is the parties duty to make a list of the candidates, those of which were not elected
within a riding, that they would like to appoint to enter parliament. Not only is the riding system
and local representation maintained, but MMP also introduces a system where proportionality and
equal representation also takes precedence ( Mixed Member Proportional Representation Explained
).
It should be noted that certain parts of Canada have attempted to usher in electoral reform in the
past. Alas, when various types of reform, including mixed member proportional and single

The Factors Of Temperature Affects A Tenebrio Molitor s...
In this lab, an experiment was done in order to test how the abiotic factor of temperature affects a
Tenebrio molitor s activity level. Both experiments conducted consisted of two separate treatment
trials; one in a warm environment (25 degrees Celsius) and one in a relatively cold environment
(14 degrees Celsius). Results obtained from these experiments both showed a higher level of T.
molitor activity in the warm environment as opposed to the coldenvironment where less activity
occurred. In this case, the activity level of a T. molitor was measured by distance travelled (cm)
over one minute. Prior to preforming the experiment, the prediction was made; An increase in
environmental temperaturewill lead to an increased activity level of T. molitor. This prediction was
made based on the knowledge of T. molitor being ectotherms. This is because temperature has been
shown to have a major effect on an ethotherms growth rate and development rate, with higher
temperatures being optimal conditions for both these to occur (Van Der Have et al. 1996).
Both experiments preformed showed the same trend of increased temperature leading to and
increased activity level, thus supporting our prediction. For instance, in experiment 1, T. molitor in
the 25 C moved a mean distance of 14.41 cm over 1 minute while moving a mean distance of 4.05
cm over 1 minute in an average environmental temperature of 13.8 C. Likewise, in experiment 2, T.

Examples Of Workplace Discrimination
1.How do I define discrimination in my own words and discrimination prevention in my own
words?
Discrimination is a long word, difficult pronunciation, tough to spell; yet, usage is exceedingly
common. Righteous teaching discrimination is simple to define. Unfair, unjust, underserved
treatment upon one is my views of discrimination. Discrimination is done intentionally. One cannot
state unfair treatment upon an induvial was mistaken.
Discrimination is highly found in the workplace. Workplace discrimination is instituted mainly by
employers; however, it transpires among employees. A few examples of workplace discrimination
is not being promoted, hired, friended, praised, heard, or given earned salaries. Leading causes of
the above examples contributes to race, ethnicity, religion, age, weight and gender.
Why should anyone be discriminated in the workplace? Working people in today s society should
know discrimination is immoral! Sadly, many working people are not righteous; therefore,
discrimination is still an ongoing problem. Discrimination prevention program training has been
developed; basically teaching working adults how to be fair.

Mark s Great Commission Research Paper
Mark s Great Commission Out of all three Synoptic Gospel s, Mark s Gospel is the shortest as
well as the first Gospel to be written. . Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a
summary of Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends
with a commission similar to the other Gospels. Whereas the other Gospels commissions are
similar, Mark is the only gospelthat addresses the problem of reception and rejection of the gospel.
In Matthew s gospel, Matthew focuses on discipleship, obedience to Jesusteachings, and all nations
of the world. On the other hand, Mark s gospel focuses on preaching, good news, and reaching
every creature. The differences discovered between the two gospels are not contradictory, but
rather, they complement each other and give added insight to the church. George Peters maps out

Is Google Making Us Stupid By Nicholas Carr
In today s society, it has become the social norm to say, google it, when we do not know the
answer or we are just too lazy to look for an answer. Instead we continuously reference a site that
claims to have all the answers. In Nicholas Carr`s passage, Is Google Making Us Stupid? he goes
in depth to explain the effects of relying on technology. Through a well thought out and dominating
ethos and logos argument he finds ways to warn the public of the coming doom of the dependencies
on technology, with a less dominating pathosargument he makes the audience think deeper and fear
the changes in our minds, as well as using slippery slopefallacies to push his opinions.
In an argument proving an ethos claim, the author need to show their credibility in any way
possible, as well as the credibility of others that they reference in their works. In Carr s first
paragraph he uses an allusion from Stanley Kubrick`s 2001: A space Odyssey, that he utilizes to
explain that much like the computer feeling it s dismantlement he can feel it too and I ve had an
uncomfortable sense that someone, or something, has been tinkering with my brain, remapping the
neural circuitry, reprograming the memory (Carr 376). After all the time, he spends online he
believes it has altered his main frame just like how the computer felt in Kubrick s story. By
comparing himself to the computer example, Carr is showing his audience that since he has felt the

Electric cars are efficient because its energy efficient, cheaper power cost and less energy are
wasted in the process. Electric cars are energy efficient because it uses all the energy it only
needs to run the vehicle. Unlike conventional cars which still needs to convert energy by burning
fuel, electric cars are charge using electricity which is directly used to run the car. The use of
electricity make electric cars more efficient because electricity is cheaper than fuel in some
countries. In a study done by National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS), the prices of
fuel are said to be on the raise in the next few year because of the increase in demand on fuel and
the decrease in the oil reserve. Fuel will become as expensive as gold. The market for fuel

Banning Books Should Be Banned
Throughout history many books have been banned, for many reasons. I believe that banning
books is a dangerous power to give the government or people in authority. Banning book is not
only morally unjust but also I believe that some of the reasons are also illegal. I will explain my
opinion in the following. Banning books can be a dangerous power because banning restricts
authors. Today, people are praised for individuality and uniqueness, and banning books contradicts
that. Many authors write about things that have happened in their lives or they express their way of
living and banning a bookthat doesn t fit in with what societies way of life is, is wrong. Society
may believe in one thing but not all people do. I also believe that banning books is a form of
bullying. Banning is like telling the author, you don t fit in with everyone else so you can t have
books published. I guess, a authors are supposed to put their beliefs on the back burner in order to
make money from published books. In history some authors were exiled because they wrote about
social corruption.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Custody Of Child Custody
INTRODUCTION
Marriage is a union of two humans. More often than not marriages result in children. Some might
even say reproduction is main aim and objective of the union through marriage. Parents take
immense care of their children; they put them on a pedestal and dedicate their entire lives to the
upbringing of their children.
But what happens in cases of divorce? When parents have exceeded their threshold and divorce is
inevitable the settlement of child custody is very important. When we use the term custody we must
understand its legal meaning. Custody of a child, when parents divorce, only implies as to who the
child will physically reside with. Both parents continue to be natural guardians. The custodial parent
will be the primary caretaker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By saying that older children are given the choice of custody the court does not neglect the
welfare of the child aspect. Even though the courts believe that male children of age sixteen years
and above and female children of age fourteen years and above should not be compelled to live in
a custody they dislike it is also important that this factor alone cannot determine the custody of the
children. This is because in Venkataramma v. Tulsi the court found that the wishes of the children
are found to be induced by persuasion and even torture in some cases.
Other than these, in certain exceptional cases it is noted that the custody of minor children may be
granted to third persons if that is what the welfare of the child requires. In Baby v. Vijay, granting
custody of two minor children to their maternal grandfather, the court observed that, even if the
father is not found unfit, custody might be given to a third person in the interest of welfare of the

Discrimination at Workplace
Discrimination at workplace
In the USA there has been the problem of discrimination at places of work against people with
disability, based on race, sex, religion in almost all quarters and this has prompted quite a number
of legislations and acts to be passed in a bid to guarantee the people the access and right to use and
utilize all the public amenities as well as get the right and equal treatment as an American.
Vivian Pearson (2012) notes that the federal law prohibits the employer from making hiring or
firing decision based on the gender, race, religion, marital status, age, country of origin or even
membership in a labor union. The specific federal laws that govern the hiring and firing of
employees as well as discrimination of employees at work place are Title VII of the Civil Rights
Act of 1964, Title I and Title V of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Age Discrimination
in Employment Act of 1967, as well as the Civil Rights Act of 1991, collectively the are referred to
as the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity laws. The well known Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA) outlines the various provisions that are formatted to ensure the people with disability

Why Is It Important To Read To Children
To Read to Children or Not to Read to Children
Over the years as many things in the world have changed there has been one favored child parent
bonding activity that has stuck around through all the changes which is known as parents reading
to their children. According to Kun Hung Cheng and Chin Chung Tsai, an idea offered by Fletcher
and Reese, 2005 that the three modules of a parent, children, and picture book provide the
foundations for practicing effective picture book reading indicates the significant role parents play
in their children s reading (203). In a study which included two groups of parents and their

Some parents may say they are too busy with their daily activities and do not have the time
necessary to read to their children. Although that may have been a valid excuse in the past, today,
a Lot of children s books are available for free through online music stores such as iTunes or
Google play. Why not consider getting one to read to them during the next outing? Not only will
doing this likely help keep them occupied, but it will also likely encourage them to (a) read books
themselves and (b) possess a more extensive imagination essentially enabling them to make up and
tell their own stories thus enabling them to entertain themselves in a vast majority of uninteresting
environments or situations.
Other parents may say they travel too often for work and are never home enough to read to their
children. A suggestion for these parents would be to record themselves reading the book during
the day and then have someone else (such as a grandparent, babysitter, or whoever is staying
with him or her while they are away) play it back for them in the evening before they go to bed. A
father on Youtube did this for his daughter so they could still have their nightly reading time while
he was away on work related business. Additionally, a few parents may say their children are not

A PERSONALISED INDUCTION WILL ALWAYS BE MORE EFFECTIVE
Always is a metaphor, therefore it is a given and will happen. The title of this discussion leads to
the suggestion that the personalised induction will always be more effective, however, I am
inclined to disagree that this statement is true. Always is a metaphor, therefore it is a given and
will happen. In some clients this may be true, but not always. The type of client, the type of
hypnotherapy required and the state of mind of the client will also have factors to play. A

possible.

Our brain will externalise instructions that it has internally stored and so people should behave and
react outwardly to what they are thinking internally, but we tend not to because of inhibitions. Our
internal world tends to be far more exciting than our external personas therefore by accessing it via
hypnosis we should be able to change this and lead just as exciting an outside world.
Our brains create our mental state, we can think ourselves into a state of mind. For example, your
body may be exhausted during exercise but if your brain keeps repeating that you can continue
then you can force your body to carry on.
In the early 1970s a student of psychology, Richard Bandler and an assistant professor of
linguistics, John Grinder identified that all humans have a series of modalities. All humans have a
preference for a specific sense or modality which we are born with and which is predominant and
they use this more than their other modalities. Each of the modalities has representations in the
person s physiology, language, behaviour and eye movement. Most people primarily define their
world in a visual, auditory or kinaesthetic way; but there are other modalities which include
olfactory (smell), gustatory (taste) and digital/audio (internal dialogue).

Arguments Against The Drug War

the true definition of freedom is. Now don t get me wrong, I agree that other countries may not
have as much freedom as we do in America but that s not my argument. The problem is that The
land of the free isn t so free anymore. It seems we go against the constitution more often every

precise fact that it takes away individual liberty. Using drugs is most certainly not anything I would

They believe that law enforcement using their powers is making America more drug free. The
facts prove this to be incorrect though, because it is doing everything except for what it was
created to do. Since the day that the drug war began drug use has expanded steadily, which is the
complete opposite of its purpose. What people fail to realize is that others will use drugs regardless
of if it is legal or not. During the 1920 s the alcohol prohibition brought similar outcomes as the
drug war is. It s causing violence, lawlessness, gangs, brutality and corruption. The reasoning for
the violence was not that selling or making alcohol was unsafe, but was ultimately caused by the
brutal black market, which sent profits through the roof. As Congressmen Ron Paul once stated
The only beneficiaries are the drug barons, smugglers and dealers who enjoy exorbitant profits,
and those dark forces in government who try to further suppress our freedoms under the excuse
of fighting the war against drugs. Pablo Escobar s son stated that the United States Government
used to work with Pablo. They worked with him by smuggling more drugs into America and
buying or selling drugs to and from Pablo himself. That is just one man s word but there have
been multiple times when the CIA has been called out in making or selling cocaine. If the drug
war were working there wouldn t be a large amount of people using drugs and there wouldn t be
people committing crimes to get the drugs, because if it were working then the country would be
drug free. I iterate that people still use drugs and the drug war has done nothing but create
violence, send people to jail and ruin opportunities for the person. According to Mona Chalabi, in a
study published in the British Medical Journal in 2013 found that despite efforts to limit the supply
of drugs, since the

V2 Rocket Persuasive Essay
On September 6th of 1944, mankind s aspiration to reach the stars slammed into the Earth in the
form of the V2 rocket striking Paris (Britannica; Hollingham). The V2 rocket was a new sort of

Germany to claim thousands of lives. The man responsible for designing such a perversion of
humanambition, Werner Von Braun, would later become indispensable to the United States mission

leukemia (CLL), a slow moving cancer. Drew, who graduated with a bachelor s in Spanish and pre
law from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in May, had what seemed like a severe
stomach, but exhibited no other symptoms. He went to the doctor within a day, and they diagnosed
him with cancerin a few days. It was a rollercoaster, Drew, who had been experiencing symptoms
like stomach illness for almost 3 years, said. I still look back on that time and remember that gut
feeling that my heart sank. I still barely believe it. It s a very unique experience, ... Show more

Even though he did not win, Drew said he valued the experience, as reaching that level was a
goal of his. To be able to knock out another one of those goals, despite it all, was just a blessing,
he said. It was overwhelming. I couldn t be more thankful for how my season ended.
The Derek Drew Mile When the coaching staff at SIU Edwardsville found out about Drew s
diagnosis, they decided to help him in some way. They helped by organizing the Derek Drew
Mile, a one mile walk/run fundraiser that was held April 16 at Korte stadium. We were in a staff
meeting after the diagnosis and we knew we wanted to do something, whether that be a run or
some kind of drive, Block said. This just seemed like a natural progression. Drew said he was
pleasantly surprised when he learned what the coaches planned. I was blown away by my
coaching staff, he said. It was really crazy to find out that my coaches really wanted to do this
fundraiser for me and help me out. The event was held at noon, just hours before a home meet for
the Cougars. This allowed more people to attend, as family would be in town. There was an
expected donation of $10 from participants, who could donate at the gate or via

modifications in the contract, ensuring both parties meet each other s expectations, and interacting
with the contractor to achieve the contract s objectives (Hinze, 2000). However, the actual contract

Ukraine And The Soviet Union
Since establishing independence from the Soviet Union, Ukraine has experienced its most
prolonged and deadly crisis which has deconstructed government plans to create closer economic
and trade ties with the European Union while also enticing a global impasse between Russia and
the Western powers. The roots of the crisis stem from decades of inefficient and corrupt
governance, an unbalanced economic system dominated by oligarchs, heavy reliance on Russia, and
socioreligious differences between the Eastern and Western parts of Ukraine. Following the coup d
etat of President Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014, Russian operations to begin the take over of
the Crimean Peninsula implied Russian intentions to expand its sphere of influence while... Show

Through the compounding effects of corruption in the Ukrainian leadership and the oligarchical
control of the Ukrainian economy, half of the country s gross domestic product (GDP) was
under the influence of the top fifty richest in Ukraine. In 2004, as a result of an allegedly rigged
presidential election, a wave of reformation swept through Ukraine in what became known as the
Orange Revolution. The opposition candidate Viktor Yanukovych led mass street protests as a
result of the election. Viktor Yushchenko was brought in to power as a result of the rigged
presidential election, however conflicts within the political elite resulted in a re election when the
Supreme Court of Ukraine annulled the election results. A destabilized Ukraine resulted in the
hampering of reformation and left it unprepared to manage the economic crisis of 2008. The
Orange Revolution along with the series of economic crises shadowed the already present divide
between a European leaning and Russian leaning Ukraine. Following these events, Yanukovych
campaigns on a political platform which called for closer economic ties with Russia. These series
of actions resulted in the election of Viktor Yanukovych in to the Ukrainian Presidency in 2010.
Sources indicate that Yanukovych continued the pattern of corruption of the leaders before him.
The Yanukovych family was accused of embezzling as much as 10 billion from the

Stainless Steel Lab Report Discussion
Analysis The observations during this experiment mean several things. The bubbles around the
materials in the beginning of each trial show that there is a reaction starting to happen. The bubbles
around the stainless steel can mean that, while there was no measurable change in the mass, it is
possible some of the stainless steelwas corroded. This prediction was confirmed in the second trial
when the stainless steel did have a measurable change in mass. The change in color in the water
of the steel shows that a solid precipitate was created. There was also evidence of a precipitate in
the flakes around the steel. Another piece of evidence showing that precipitate formed was the
cloudiness of the liquid around the iron. The reason that the vinegar smell dissipated from the iron
and mild steel is because all of the acetic acid in the vinegar was used up creating what would
have been just water if a precipitate had not formed. The modeof each trial varies for each metal,
and each one shows something different. The modes for Iron in trial one are 0.3% and 0.4%. These
show that they corroded a little, and consistently due to the fat... Show more content on

The copper in this experiment was the least corroded, as was predicted. When the metals are
compared to mild steel, the standard of comparison, all of them performed better, so they would
all make better tanks according to the results of this experiment. The practical applications of this
would be using copper to make the tanks under gas stations. For further experimentation one could
investigate the discrepancy in the mild steel between trials 1 and 2. One could also investigate the
effect of oxidation on how well the metals would work. There is also the possibility of
investigating which metal would be the most cost effective. Another investigation that could be
done would be seeing if the surface area of the samples would affect the corrosion of the

Aliens Vs Dwarf Planets
A dwarf planet is a celestial body which orbits around the sun. The body has to be large enough
to have its own gravity pull itself into a nearly round shape. Usually, a dwarf planet is called a
minor planet. The difference between a dwarf planet and a planet is that a dwarf planet s path
around the sunis full of other objects, while a planethas a clear path when it orbits around the sun.
The term dwarf planetwas coined in 1981 by Alan Stern, an American Planetary scientist, and have
gone through a process of multiple draft proposals. Conversely, the final definition was set on
August 24th, 2006. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) settled that planets and dwarf
planets are two distinct classes of objects , meaning that dwarf

Hegel Sense And Certaintyity
Hegel s discussion and refutation of sense certainty is the beginning of his discussion of
consciousness in the Phenomenology of Spirit. From this discussion, he lays the groundwork from
which he reaches absolute knowledge. In this essay, I will focus on Hegel s discussion of sense
certainty. Following a brief summary of my interpretation of sensecertainty, this essay will mainly
focus on paragraph 91 in which Hegel acknowledges the attributes and deficiencies of sense
certainty. Since the paragraph itself is too long to quote and analyze, I will choose a few key
quotes from the paragraph to discuss in detail. Further, since this is the beginning of sense certainty
and the claims he makes regarding sense certainty will later be refuted, the... Show more content on

It is also the case that I am certain of this item not for the reason that the item of which I am
certain would exist in terms of a rich relation of diverse states in itself, or because it would be
related in multifarious ways to others. Both have nothing to do with the truth of sense certainty;
in that certainty, neither I nor the item mean a manifold of mediation ; I does not mean a
manifold of diverse activities of representing and thinking, nor does the item mean a manifold of
diverse states ; rather, the item is, and it is merely because it is (Pinkard 2010). Hegel further
continues his criticism of the objects of sense certainty in these sentences. Since the
consciousness can t, according to sense certainty, comprehend and use its mental capacity to
conceptualize the object, its is limited to mere being as it is. This being as it is stems from
apprehension which allows the subject to apply universals to objects of sense certainty. This
application of universals blends one object with others since universals can be applicable to other
things as well. Therefore, a person is only aware of an empty universal according to Hegel who
concluded that this is one of the major faults of sense certainty. Sense certainty fails in this regard
because apprehension does not transcend the universal...which does not

Reasons Why George Was Justified In Of Mice And Men
Is killing someone right or wrong? In the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck readers
are conflicted with this question all around the world. George killed Lennie after Lennie
accidentally killed Curley s wife.George and Lennie had known eachother for a long time they
even traveled together. George helped Lennie out of multiple situations and killing him was the
best way he could think of in the instance of Lennie killing Curley s wife.Even though Lennie and
George were friends, George was justified in killing Lennie because Lennie was undisciplined and
unsafe. First and foremost, George has to constantly continue to repeat rules to Lennie because
Lennie is undisciplined. Like, after Slim gives Lennie a puppy Lennie brings the puppy into the
bunkhouse with him even though George told him he was not supposed to. For example, after
Lennie comes into the bunkhouse John Steinbeck writes that George reached down and picked up
the tiny puppy from where Lennie had been concealing it against his stomach. (Steinbeck) In this
quote it shows that Lennie disobeyed the rules that George has set with him so he could get the
puppy this means that Lennie is undisciplined because he broke the rules even though he knew
that there were specific rules that were not supposed to be broken. consequently, George has to
repeat himself many times and treat Lennie like a child by fixing the things that Lennie messes up
and disobeyes the rules. So George was justified in his decision to kill

Lyme Disease In The 1970 s
Lyme disease was discovered in the 1970 s, as any other disease was, by a large number of cases,
with patients having the same symptoms. In Lyme, Connecticut, a doctor was having patients who
were all suffering from the same symptoms that made patients become debilitated. There were so
many cases that the doctor marked it as an unknown disease. It wasn t until later in the 1980 s that
there were more widespread cases throughout the north east. Lyme diseaseis becoming a serious
problem in the north east and especially in New York State, given the drastic increase of cases.
Without treatment Lyme disease can result in blindness and in severe cases, death. In the 1970 s,
doctors were receiving patients who were having odd symptoms. The symptoms were swollen
knees, paralysis, skin rashes, headaches, and severe chronic fatigue ( History of Lyme Disease ). In

Generally, they are the size of poppy seeds. Adult ticks are greater during March to mid May and

The Themes Of Fear In Monsters Are Due On Maple Street
Monsters are due on maple street essay When fear Seizes someone, they are no longer able to
make rational decisions. In the science fiction short story Monsters are due on Maple Street, by
Rod Serling, Season 1, episode 22, fear takes over almost an entire neighborhood. The twilight
zone is a very old T.V. show in which the theme of the short shows usually based on all of the
flaws in humanity. The First taste of prejudice is the very thought that creates pandemonium on
Maple Street. One main weapon humanity uses is prejudice. This quote is when Mr. Goodman
s car starts out of nowhere and now They are are pointing out all of his flaws He was always an
oddball. Him and his whole family. Real oddballs, (Serling pg.7). This quote helps the reader
understand that the people that are always too quick to assume are the people that have
something to hide and that they find every little action that could well end up tying to why the
aliens piloted over head. Now they are pointing out that Les Goodman is an oddball and that he
now must have something to do with the dilemma. Another piece of evidence that shows that
prejudice is a literal weapon in humanity is when Pete Van Horn is shot and is now dead. (Serling
pg.13) A figure suddenly materializes in the gloom and silence... Charlie pulls the trigger the sound
of it explodes in the stillness... (holding the dead mans crushed glasses) it s Pete Van Horn! This

where the stove is. If queenie was cooking food for her and her friends, why would she trip or

would stop what they are doing and kill someone. Arthur in the picture is wearing some type of

sleeping or tired. while Arthur is wearing a robe walking down the stairs arthur was tired he
would have a higher chance of slipping or tripping down the stairs.when you are wearing a robe

Paul Tarsus Letter
Introduction:
What are the origins of the Early Church and how do these impact on us as Christians in a
community? Paul the Apostle, originally known as Saul of Tarsus, was an apostle who travelled
the world teaching the gospel of Christ to the first century world. He is generally considered one
of the most important figures of the Apostolic Age. In this speech I will inform you about Paul s
early life, Pauls Journeys and his letters.
The World behind the Text:
The purpose of Pauls Letters were to keep in contact with the churches and to resolve any problems
or questions they had. Paul mainly wrote to communicate with distant churches, to encourage, to
persuade, to inform and to respond to events that he had heard about. Paul s writings formulated key
teachings about the nature of the Church. He taught about how Christ lived in them and by their
baptism and the Holy Spirit they were able to contribute to the Christian community. Paul mainly
wrote about the issues in society and how to help the churches when they were in need. Paul didn t
believe that the Gentiles need to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wrote these letters to clarify the expectations of Christians, regarding circumcision.
As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no
longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of
you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham s offspring, heirs
according to the promise.
The closing verse reaffirms this: Abraham s offspring, Heirs according to the promise. Therefore,
being Christ s they are also children of Abraham, because being Christ s has removed all other
differences. Paul was making the point that it is not circumcision that brings the Gentiles to Christ

Islamism In Iraq
Explain the impact of the role of Islam in the politics of Iraq after Saddam Hussein s dictatorship.
Islamism, as a basic feature of Muslim and especially Arab politics, and has played a major role
in Iraqi politics. There are two branches of Islam present in Iraq, the Shiites (Or Shia) and Sunni.
Similar to Iran and Bahrain, Iraq has a Shiites majority. This majority has, however, not been able
to exercise much political power until the 2000 s, with the removal of President Saddam Hussein
and his Sunni elite. Modern Iraq has a strong affinity between religious devotion and politics.
During the 2003 2011 presence of U.S. forces, Iraq completed a transition from the dictatorship of
Saddam Hussein to a plural political system in which varying ... Show more content on

The primary grievances of most Iraqi Sunnis include the integration of Shi a militias into the Iraqi
Security Forces (ISF), attacks by the ISF in Sunni civilian areas, and political exclusion in Baghdad.
A huge moral and ideological vacuum had emerged in Iraq after Saddam Hussein, and Islam was
ideal to provide a new moral compass to the people. Neighboring states were already moving
quickly where possible to establish centers of influence within Iraq to prepare for the day when
U.S. power departs. Iran supported Islamist movements among the Shia while Saudi Arabia and the
Gulf States sought bolster Sunni forces in Iraq.
The Islamists Shia and Sunni were not automatically hostile to the U.S. presence, especially since
both gained from the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. But they were determined to retain the
Muslim character of Iraq, especially in the face of non Muslim occupation, and cannot long
support the U.S. presence. Islamist power inside Iraq has diminished to the extent there is freedom
enjoyed by other political and religious parties within the country to rival the Islamists. However,
as nearly everywhere, repression of political pluralism invariably works to the benefit of the

Politics and the English Language Essay
George Orwell s essay, Politics and the English Language, first published in 1946, talks about some
bad habits , which have driven the English language in the wrong direction, that is, away from
communicating ideas. In his essay he quotes five passages, each from a different author, which
embody the faults he is talking about. He lists dying metaphors, operators, pretentious diction, and
meaningless words as things to look out for in your own writingand the writing of others (593 595).
He talks about political uses of the English language. Our language has become ugly and the
ugliness impedes upon communication. Ugly uses of language have been reinforced and passed

On the other hand, writing can turn ugly if they don t care about what words they use and rush
through the writing process. The idea is that ugly writing impedes communication whereas positive
writing allows for clear communication. Positive writing serves the purpose of communicating
clearly and concisely. It allows for the flow of imagery from the writer to the reader. In contrast,
ugly writing does something else. It can be crowded with meaningless phrases and fillers. People
need to prevent bad habits from spreading by consciously guarding against them.
As ugly language is used in society, by written word or mouth, it can spread through the population
like a virus. Ugly writing is only ugly in the sense that communication is hindered to some extent. I
m not trying to say that the ideas behind the writing are negative or bad, although they certainly can
be. The intensity to which communication is hindered varies and can be negative for the reader s
understanding. There are many ways in which writers hinder communication.
In his essay, Orwell gives examples of commonly used language which doesn t help aid
communication. The first are dying metaphors (593). A good metaphor creates a picture in your
head. The graphic novel Watchmen, written by Alan Moore, starts off with a vivid metaphor about
the horrendous amount of crime in a dying city; The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are
full of blood and when the drains

  • 2. A Cochlear Implant Is An Electronic Device That Substitutes A Cochlear Implant is an electronic device that substitutes the damaged part of the inner ear to send signals to the brain. It is used by profoundly deaf or severely deaf people. The first Cochlear Implant was invented in the year of 1961 by Dr. William F. House. He was an american otologist, medical researcher, and physician, born December 1st, 1923 died December 7th, 2012. Dr. William F. House started the process of developing the Cochlear Implantduring the late 1950s, after obtaining knowledge of other experiments going on. He decided to put his focus on ear, nose, throat and later decided to focus strictly on the ear when parents brought him two young kids they believed were deaf. Dr. House performed the first Cochlear Implant surgery... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly the sound processor forwards the codes to what s called the coil on the outside to the implant. After that the implant changes the code into electrical pulses and sends them out through the nerves. Lastly the cochlear nerve is stimulated and it sends out waves to the brain that are interpreted as sound. Over time the cochlear implant has had technology advances as well as the size becoming smaller and easier for deaf people to use. This surgical implant has both its benefits and disadvantages for the deaf. One of the benefits of the Cochlear Implant is the hearing improvement, people with them have the ability to interact more from hearing conversations, makes it to where less effort is needed to understand others. It also helps children in school, present and future. The overall benefit for everyone is they ll be able to adventure out more and it keeps them safer being able to hear. The downside of the implant is how expensive the process is, and how many people have to pass up the opportunity because of the cost. Another is that the sounds can be hurtful at first to the person and adjusting could take time. The procedure for the Cochlear Implant is a disadvantage as well because of the risk that all surgical procedures have, and the damage that could happen to the ear itself or face. The deaf community s feelings about the Cochlear Implant is controversial, some believe that if one is born deaf then that s what they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Social Tension Surrounding The United States Essay Introduction In what has become known as the issue of the century by many (Buchanan, 2015), immigration has been a topic of debate and an area of sociological tension for several decades in the United States. It can be seen daily in our newspapers, television shows and especially in America politics. In fact, it could be argued that this form of social tension in the United States goes as far back as 1492 when Christopher Columbus first stepped foot on what is now North America. It was from this point that social tension surrounding immigration into the modern United States truly began between early European explorers and the existing Native Americans. Social tension surrounding immigration began to peak when large scale immigration into the United States started in the late 1800 s. In the early days of immigration into the United States the social tension surrounded the diaspora of the Native Americans which lead to the creation of indian reservations (cite US History.org). This early social tension primarily surrounded the obtainment of land and the establishment of property. As we move forward into history, modern immigration tension in America is more focused on immigration from Mexico. This paper will explore immigration into the United States and help determine why it is a source of social tension. Some groups suggest that immigration threatens America s resources and should be better controlled while others suggest that immigration is vital to the success of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Social Theories Of Mass Shootings Mass shootings happen a lot more frequently in the world than most of us probably know. However, every mass shooting that has been documented and investigated have the same main question behind it; Why did the attacker choose to do this? Many times, our assumptions are all we have. Investigation analyses the entire situation as much as it can to make sure our assumptions, if needed, are as accurate as possible. However, there are a lot of theories and social situations that pertain to mass shootings as well. On July 20th, 2012, one of the deadliest mass shootinghad occurred in Aurora, Colorado. A man by the name of James Holmes had been the attacker behind this mass shooting. Just a couple weeks prior to the shooting, Holmes bought a ticket online for a midnight showing of The Dark Night Rises at the local movie theater in Aurora. The night he attended the showing, left shortly after through one of the rear doors. He proceeded to leave the door open and headed towards the parking lot. Soon later, he returned. Not even 20 minutes after the movie had begun, Holmes began shooting vigorously at the audience. Due to results from a sanitary sewer evaluation of the Nebraska DEQ, the Papio Branch water treatment plant s (WTP) must place a permanent flow meter at the site of the discharge point where flow is outputting to the reservoir. The discharge (decant flow) flow in the pipe varies from continuous to intermittent through the 10 inch gravity ductile iron pipe that is a free fall discharge into the reservoir. The discharge point is a concrete headwall where the Doppler wave meter will be placed permanently. Signature Area Velocity flow meter system: starts at $3,700 o This includes the meter, the sensor, a 32.8 foot cable, a manual, and a pocket guide. The price may change if other options are added. The Laser Flow meter is a non contact Doppler meter that provides all of the same information as the area velocity meter without having a sensor in the water. The benefit of this would be if the pipe has ragging issues or there is a lot of silting/debris that could potentially get stuck on the probe and cause the probe to not read the way it should be. This is a much more expensive option it would provide data without the worry of silt/debris or ragging of the pipe getting in the way. Costs for this type of meter are listed below. The Road To Democracy Was More Difficult For France The road to democracy was more difficult for France than for England because they still had many people who wanted to keep a Monarchy and keep France ruled by a king and queen or by military rule. This made the road to Democracy more difficult for France because it stirred up conflicts between the people in France who wanted democracy and the people in France who wanted to keep the monarchy. The first main conflict that happened was with the creating of the Third Republic. This was a government the French created after the Franco Prussian war. The reason this stirred up conflict was because during the 1880 s and 1890 s, the Third Republic was threatened by the monarchists, clergy and aristocrats who wanted to keep the monarchy, and army leaders... Some of the French who came even intermarried with some of the Native Americans. Eventually, Britain came to power and took control of Canada in 1763 after defeating France in the French and Indian war. After Britain took power, many English speaking people settled into Canada. Most of these English speaking people who settled were from Great Britain and some were loyalist Americans. During Britain s control of power in Canada, Britain s parliament eventually split Canada into two new providences. The two providences were Upper Canada and Lower Canada. Today Upper Canada is now Ontario and Lower Canada is now Quebec. The reason for Britain s parliament splitting Canada into Upper Canada and Lower Canada was because of conflict between two religions. The two religions were Roman Catholic and Protestant. Both religious groups wanted to have a bigger voice in controlling their own affairs which led to conflict between the two religions. After both religions kept pressuring Britain to give them these powers, Britain finally gave in and split Canada into two providences in 1791. This now became Upper Canada and Lower Canada. The people who lived in the colony of Upper Canada were people made up of an English speaking majority. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Importance Of Stage Directions In Shakespeare s Romeo... In the very beginning of Act 1, Scene 1 of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, there is a fight between the Montagues and the Capulets servants about them biting their thumbs at each other; biting their thumbs at each other was a sign of disrespect. The variations in the intonation, tones, and stage directions in the four different variations of the scene, show the viewer or the audience how differently they were created and how each director has different ideas about how it should look and sound. They had different ideas about how to show the emotions of the characters. The stage directions in the first scene by George Cukor are pretty general. They show how the characters do have a rivalry with each other. During the fight, you could tell that each person had different directions to follow during the fight. During the second scene by Alvin Rakoff, they had more emotionin their actions, which you could tell was through their stage directions. They were merely close friends that thrived off of each others joy and companionship in times of need(3). Another part of their relationship that was different than most is that it was completely private. Hitler and Eva rarely appeared in public together(9). Even if they did, they would not sit together or give any evidence that they were even acquaintances of one another(8). This was hard on Eva, as she longed for his attention. She would often cry when he was not around and it was apparent that he had a significant impact on her mood. She even went to lengths as trying to take her own life at one point in time because she did not think she would ever be good enough for him(3). This proved to change the views that Hitler had on the relationship, as it started to drastically change(8). Soon after the incident they moved in together and Eva started to arrange gatherings for Hitler s closest friends otherwise known as his inner circle . Enlightenment In Japan Browne 1 Mastering Enlightenment by Doing Less: A Comparative Approach of the Difficulty of Achieving Enlightenment in Zen and Pure Land Traditions in Japan I plan to do a comparative paper examining the difficulty of achieving enlightenment in Japan. More specifically, I will examine achieving enlightenment in the Zen tradition versus achieving enlightenment in the Pure Land tradition of Mahayana Buddhism. I hypothesize that it will be determined that it is significantly easier to achieve enlightenment in the Pure Land tradition than in the Zen tradition. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated above, those that practice the Zen school of Buddhism must look within themselves for enlightenment and thus must be self disciplined; however, I intend to go into detail as to how in Pure Land Buddhism one does not have to rely on themselves, rather, they need only to rely on the power of Amida. From the teachings of Shinran it is written that anyone who recites the phrase Namu Amida Butsu will be born in the Pure Land where they will be able to receive enlightenment (Park 1991, 95). Discussing the different rituals in each tradition will lead to an examination of self power versus other power which will further justify why it is easier to attain enlightenment in the Pure Land tradition. I will describe self power versus other power through looking at Shinran s explanation of the matter. This contains information surrounding his emphasis on complete reliance and faith in Amida as necessary to be saved (other power). I will address the stark contrast this poses with the Zen tradition where sole reliance on oneself and ones mind are necessary for enlightenment (Park 1991, 93). I anticipate that one might argue that one is not achieving enlightenment for themselves in the Zen tradition because they are being trained by a Zen Master. This can be countered because while Zen Masters teach practices, their students physically and mentally preform these practices for themselves. Through the above debated perspectives, I will conclude that it is less work to achieve enlightenment in the Zen tradition, as one does and can rely on Amida for salvation instead of relying on ... It changed the Federal legal status of enslaved people in the South from slave to free. This proclamation ordered all ten states to free slaves. This proclamation excluded areas not in the rebellion. The reason these areas were excluded is because the proclamation was issued under the president s authority to suppress rebellion and it was not passed by Congress as a law. In this lab, an experiment was done in order to test how the abiotic factor of temperature affects a Tenebrio molitor s activity level. Both experiments conducted consisted of two separate treatment trials; one in a warm environment (25 degrees Celsius) and one in a relatively cold environment (14 degrees Celsius). Results obtained from these experiments both showed a higher level of T. molitor activity in the warm environment as opposed to the coldenvironment where less activity occurred. In this case, the activity level of a T. molitor was measured by distance travelled (cm) over one minute. Prior to preforming the experiment, the prediction was made; An increase in environmental temperaturewill lead to an increased activity level of T. molitor. This prediction was made based on the knowledge of T. molitor being ectotherms. This is because temperature has been shown to have a major effect on an ethotherms growth rate and development rate, with higher temperatures being optimal conditions for both these to occur (Van Der Have et al. 1996). Both experiments preformed showed the same trend of increased temperature leading to and increased activity level, thus supporting our prediction. For instance, in experiment 1, T. molitor in the 25 C moved a mean distance of 14.41 cm over 1 minute while moving a mean distance of 4.05 cm over 1 minute in an average environmental temperature of 13.8 C. Today, people are praised for individuality and uniqueness, and banning books contradicts that. Many authors write about things that have happened in their lives or they express their way of living and banning a bookthat doesn t fit in with what societies way of life is, is wrong. • 29. Custody Of Child Custody INTRODUCTION Marriage is a union of two humans. More often than not marriages result in children. Some might even say reproduction is main aim and objective of the union through marriage. Parents take immense care of their children; they put them on a pedestal and dedicate their entire lives to the upbringing of their children. But what happens in cases of divorce? When parents have exceeded their threshold and divorce is inevitable the settlement of child custody is very important. When we use the term custody we must understand its legal meaning. Custody of a child, when parents divorce, only implies as to who the child will physically reside with. Both parents continue to be natural guardians. Even though the courts believe that male children of age sixteen years and above and female children of age fourteen years and above should not be compelled to live in a custody they dislike it is also important that this factor alone cannot determine the custody of the children. This is because in Venkataramma v. Tulsi the court found that the wishes of the children are found to be induced by persuasion and even torture in some cases. Other than these, in certain exceptional cases it is noted that the custody of minor children may be granted to third persons if that is what the welfare of the child requires. In Baby v. Why not consider getting one to read to them during the next outing? Not only will doing this likely help keep them occupied, but it will also likely encourage them to (a) read books themselves and (b) possess a more extensive imagination essentially enabling them to make up and tell their own stories thus enabling them to entertain themselves in a vast majority of uninteresting environments or situations. The title of this discussion leads to the suggestion that the personalised induction will always be more effective, however, I am inclined to disagree that this statement is true. The type of client, the type of hypnotherapy required and the state of mind of the client will also have factors to play. Our brains create our mental state, we can think ourselves into a state of mind. For example, your body may be exhausted during exercise but if your brain keeps repeating that you can continue then you can force your body to carry on. In the early 1970s a student of psychology, Richard Bandler and an assistant professor of linguistics, John Grinder identified that all humans have a series of modalities. All humans have a preference for a specific sense or modality which we are born with and which is predominant and they use this more than their other modalities. Each of the modalities has representations in the person s physiology, language, behaviour and eye movement. Most people primarily define their world in a visual, auditory or kinaesthetic way; but there are other modalities which include olfactory (smell), gustatory (taste) and digital/audio (internal dialogue). Since the day that the drug war began drug use has expanded steadily, which is the complete opposite of its purpose. What people fail to realize is that others will use drugs regardless of if it is legal or not. During the 1920 s the alcohol prohibition brought similar outcomes as the drug war is. It s causing violence, lawlessness, gangs, brutality and corruption. The reasoning for the violence was not that selling or making alcohol was unsafe, but was ultimately caused by the brutal black market, which sent profits through the roof. As Congressmen Ron Paul once stated The only beneficiaries are the drug barons, smugglers and dealers who enjoy exorbitant profits, and those dark forces in government who try to further suppress our freedoms under the excuse of fighting the war against drugs. The bubbles around the materials in the beginning of each trial show that there is a reaction starting to happen. The bubbles around the stainless steel can mean that, while there was no measurable change in the mass, it is possible some of the stainless steelwas corroded. This prediction was confirmed in the second trial when the stainless steel did have a measurable change in mass. The change in color in the water of the steel shows that a solid precipitate was created. There was also evidence of a precipitate in the flakes around the steel. Another piece of evidence showing that precipitate formed was the cloudiness of the liquid around the iron. The reason that the vinegar smell dissipated from the iron and mild steel is because all of the acetic acid in the vinegar was used up creating what would have been just water if a precipitate had not formed. George helped Lennie out of multiple situations and killing him was the best way he could think of in the instance of Lennie killing Curley s wife.Even though Lennie and George were friends, George was justified in killing Lennie because Lennie was undisciplined and unsafe. First and foremost, George has to constantly continue to repeat rules to Lennie because Lennie is undisciplined. Like, after Slim gives Lennie a puppy Lennie brings the puppy into the bunkhouse with him even though George told him he was not supposed to. For example, after Lennie comes into the bunkhouse John Steinbeck writes that George reached down and picked up the tiny puppy from where Lennie had been concealing it against his stomach. (Steinbeck) In this quote it shows that Lennie disobeyed the rules that George has set with him so he could get the puppy this means that Lennie is undisciplined because he broke the rules even though he knew that there were specific rules that were not supposed to be broken. consequently, George has to repeat himself many times and treat Lennie like a child by fixing the things that Lennie messes up and disobeyes the rules. Arthur in the picture is wearing some type of bath robe while he is walking down the stairs, while Arthur is upstairs in a robe he is probably sleeping or tired. while Arthur is wearing a robe walking down the stairs arthur was tired he would have a higher chance of slipping or tripping down the stairs.when you are wearing a robe you are most likely tired. When you or tired you are more likely to fall down the stairs. From the picture you can see Arthur after falling down the stairs is laying on his back with his head first. If queenie had pushed him down the stairs he would have moved faster than if he fell or slipped down the stairs, if he was moving faster from being pushed he would have not have time to have turned over on his back what would have happened is he would have landed on his stomach with his head first. Paul mainly wrote to communicate with distant churches, to encourage, to persuade, to inform and to respond to events that he had heard about. Paul s writings formulated key teachings about the nature of the Church. He wrote these letters to clarify the expectations of Christians, regarding circumcision. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham s offspring, heirs according to the promise. The closing verse reaffirms this: Abraham s offspring, Heirs according to the promise. • 52. Islamism In Iraq Explain the impact of the role of Islam in the politics of Iraq after Saddam Hussein s dictatorship. Islamism, as a basic feature of Muslim and especially Arab politics, and has played a major role in Iraqi politics. There are two branches of Islam present in Iraq, the Shiites (Or Shia) and Sunni. Similar to Iran and Bahrain, Iraq has a Shiites majority. This majority has, however, not been able to exercise much political power until the 2000 s, with the removal of President Saddam Hussein and his Sunni elite. Modern Iraq has a strong affinity between religious devotion and politics. During the 2003 2011 presence of U.S. forces, Iraq completed a transition from the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein to a plural political system in which varying ... The primary grievances of most Iraqi Sunnis include the integration of Shi a militias into the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF), attacks by the ISF in Sunni civilian areas, and political exclusion in Baghdad. A huge moral and ideological vacuum had emerged in Iraq after Saddam Hussein, and Islam was ideal to provide a new moral compass to the people. Neighboring states were already moving quickly where possible to establish centers of influence within Iraq to prepare for the day when U.S. power departs. Iran supported Islamist movements among the Shia while Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States sought bolster Sunni forces in Iraq. The Islamists Shia and Sunni were not automatically hostile to the U.S. presence, especially since both gained from the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. But they were determined to retain the Muslim character of Iraq, especially in the face of non Muslim occupation, and cannot long support the U.S. presence. Politics and the English Language Essay George Orwell s essay, Politics and the English Language, first published in 1946, talks about some bad habits , which have driven the English language in the wrong direction, that is, away from communicating ideas. In his essay he quotes five passages, each from a different author, which embody the faults he is talking about. He lists dying metaphors, operators, pretentious diction, and meaningless words as things to look out for in your own writingand the writing of others (593 595). He talks about political uses of the English language. Our language has become ugly and the ugliness impedes upon communication. Ugly uses of language have been reinforced and passed down in the population even among people who should and do know... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, writing can turn ugly if they don t care about what words they use and rush through the writing process. The idea is that ugly writing impedes communication whereas positive writing allows for clear communication. Positive writing serves the purpose of communicating clearly and concisely. It allows for the flow of imagery from the writer to the reader. In contrast, ugly writing does something else. It can be crowded with meaningless phrases and fillers. People need to prevent bad habits from spreading by consciously guarding against them. As ugly language is used in society, by written word or mouth, it can spread through the population like a virus. Ugly writing is only ugly in the sense that communication is hindered to some extent. I m not trying to say that the ideas behind the writing are negative or bad, although they certainly can be. The intensity to which communication is hindered varies and can be negative for the reader s understanding. There are many ways in which writers hinder communication. In his essay, Orwell gives examples of commonly used language which doesn t help aid communication. The first are dying metaphors (593). A good metaphor creates a picture in your head. The graphic novel Watchmen, written by Alan Moore, starts off with a vivid metaphor about the horrendous amount of crime in a dying city; The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains ...
