wasteful, but it is only a partial answer. The underlying sources of our present environmental problems

ampicillin resistance gene.When plasmids like lux or pUC18 are added in E.coli, they are more likely
to survive in certain environments that contain antibiotics. Plasmid can carry genes enabling bacteria
like E.coli to survive in harsh conditions. This experiment displayed how plasmid work when inserted
in E.coli with and without ampicillin. In certain agar plates, ampicillin was added with either the lux
plasmid or the pUC18 plasmid resulting in colony growth. In other agar plates, no ampicillin was

I m really enjoying our assigned readings so far in class. My favorite so far has been An Occurrence at
Owl Creek Bridge by Bierce. I was not expecting the ending to this short story at all, it caught me off
guard. I honestly did believe that Peyton Farquhar, the main character of the story, managed to
escaped his hanging by swimming away from the scene. What I did find sort of hard to believe was
how much Peyton was able to imagine right before his death. What I mean by this is how he was able
to imagine a whole escape plan that led him running all the way home to his wife, all while he was in
the process of getting hanged. The whole story was about five pages long but it had a great amount of
detail describing the events. I especially enjoyed this particular reading because I was able to picture

Juan was able to read all the words in the preprimer list with ease. He demonstrated his ability to read
all the words with fluency, up until the fourth grade words were given, is when he began to have a few
miss read words. But besides having some trouble he was still able to get fifteen words correct from
the list that he was given to read. The words in which he seems to have difficulty with, were the ones
that consisted of words that that had letters that did not make sounds, for example, stampede. There
were three passages that I administered to Juan in which I believe would accurately determine his

Here is definitely when he seemed to struggle the most. He got an 86% accuracy and took longer to
read (3 minutes 36 seconds). He also seemed to get more frustrated when he read words that he was
not able to pronounce or he believed that he was not saying correct. Based on the test administered, I
determined that Juan fell in the range of an X. He is able to read the passage and has some difficulty
with the words but nothing that makes it impossible for him to read the passage. Some patterns that
can be noted is that he tends to skip some words when he is reading or add words that are not in the
text. Spelling is where Juan seemed to have some problems. He was able to spell out the words that
did not consist of a lot of words but when they began to get more complex is when he began to have
trouble. He got a 4 out of 6 in the blends and diagraphs section, 3out of 4 in the long vowels and and

Act Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism
1. Utilitarians believe that one should so act as to promote the greatest happiness (pleasure) of the
greatest number of people (Angeles 326). However, within the utilitarian community there are major
splits in how we are to determine which action brings us the greatest amounts of pleasure. Today I will
be focusing on two ways to determine which actions bring the greatest amount of pleasure to a
situation: act and rule utilitarianism. I will define both act and rule utilitarianism, give a situation
where both can be applied, and respond to an objection of utilitarianism. I will also be discussing why
I believe act utilitarianism helps more people than rule utilitarianism, in turn, becoming superior to
rule utilitarianism.
2. To begin, I will be defining both act and rule utilitarianism. In act utilitarianism, you determine the
morality of an act by measuring the pleasures and pains for a specific situation Angeles 326). Act
utilitarians take into consideration only those affected in the specific situation. However, rule
utilitarianism determines the morality of an act according to the good or bad consequences that ensue
from following a general moral rule of conduct... (Angeles 326). Good examples of those general
moral rules are phrases like, never steal or never tell a lie. In any situation, people can use either act or
rule utilitarianism to determine the correct course of action.
3. Now, I will use a hypothetical situation to describe both act and rule
