Social marketing can also mean macro social marketing (Kennedy Parsons, 2011). The legal and
political impact that led by the government in social marketing have a huge impact on Cochlear s
marketing as the legal and political factors have threatens Cochlear s pricing strategies and hence
positioning in China. Government can use or make laws to make changes and protection of their own
country, laws can influence different areas, such as education, marketing, research, funding and
taxation, in order to take advantage and protect local businesses. Different countries have different
types of political and legal aspect, so Cochlear need to be careful on its action and not to make any
problems in other countries. For example, in China, Cochlear will be facing many competitions from
the local businesses and manufacturers, as the government in China does not want Cochlear has the
monopoly profit and want to protect their local businesses. Therefore, Cochlear need to lower their
pricing to stay competitive with the local companies. The main goals for the Chinese government to
do this are to support local research, development, and manufacturing and also make cochlear
implants cheaper and more accessible (Einhorn Khan, 2013). This will affect Cochlear s marketing
mix in terms of price as they have to stay competitive in the Chinese market. Cochlear need to adapt

Theme Of Symbols In Sons And Lovers
In Sons and lovers, D.H Lawrence has made a very clever use of symbols. The novel abounds in
symbolic objects and events. Yet they are so well integrated with the narrative that they hardly ever
appear obtrusive. When understood, these symbols adds to the richness of the novel and enhances our
appreciation of the novel. Mark Spikla says The symbolic scenes are extremely literal and the symbols
seem to function as integral strands in the webs of emotional tensions. In Sons and Lovers, we have a
host of such symbolic scenes which have a catalytic effect upon the intensity of the plot and action in
the novel. The description of coal pits is symbolic. The coal pits standing at the horizon are a concrete
reality. The entire life of the community depends on them. Their symbolic significance become clearer
as the novel progresses that these coal pits are a particular way of and a particular attitude towards life.
They are closely associated with Walter Morel who stands for an irrational life principle. Paul

The most important of these scene takes place when Paul, Miriam and Clara are together in a open

to an open field and they begin to pick flowers. Paul picks the flowers scientifically yet there is a
natural beauty in is bunches. His contact with the flowers is direct and spontaneous. He is alive and
organic flowers are his to take. Miriam picks the flowers lovingly and reverentially. As she picks them
she seems to be killing the life out of them. The bunches she makes do not have much elegance. Her
way of picking flowers suggest that she has no right to life. When it comes to Clara, she states quite
militantly tat flowers should not be picked as it kills them. What she means to says she doesn t want to

Progressive Rock Era
The progressive rock era was primarily found and established in the late 1960s to the early 1970s. It
primarily evolved due to a mostly British attempt to elevate rock music to new levels of artistic
credibility. The primary characteristics of this genre is to push the boundaries of rock s technical and
compositional boundaries. By utilizing this idea, the songs produced incorporate elements from jazz,
classical, and vary greatly depending on the background of the person. If a musician grew up listening
to Jazz, there will be lots of jazz elements found in the progressive music he or she was producing.
The instrument choice also provides a huge element of the unique sound a musician or band presents
through his or her music.

Phoenix Effect Of State Resistance
Collective Action 2: How can individuals organize against oppression?
In The Phoenix Effect of State Repression: Jewish Resistance during the Holocaust, Evgeny Finkel
examines the viability and success of collective action movements, with an emphasis on the particular
skills individuals need to organize resistance against oppression. He believes that his paper provides a
new explanation of variation in the sustainability of resistance to state repression by linking the
sustainability of armed resistance to the skills to mount such a resistance (339). To support this
conclusion, he separates state repression into two categories, selective and indiscriminate, contending
that selective repression lends itself to skilled resistance, since ... Show more content on

He chose to focus his work on anti Nazi Jewish resistance during the Holocaust in the ghettos of
Minsk, Krakow, and Bialystok. He considers this selection of these ghettos with similar size, subject
to the same genocidal policy, and inhabited by members of the same ethnic, linguistic, and religious
groups to be a forte (339), since it allowed for the different outcomes of resistance to be observed.
Granted, this could be a strength since it arguably negates the possibility that other variables doctored
the paths of resistance each of the ghettos went down. But, even when making this concession, the
cherry picked sample only covers how similar or same groups went down different paths, and not how
different groups those that vary in ethnicity, language, and religion, amongst other alleged variables
reached the same outcome. Without this contrapositive investigation, it is inappropriate to make
sweeping claims like the ones mentioned

The Death And Life Of Great American Cities By Jane Jacobs
Recently I read a book titled The Death and Life of Great American Cities written by Jane Jacobs
(1961), which basically criticizes the urban planning processes generally employed in the planning,
renovation and rebuilding of cities. Though it was published in 1961, the book is still considered a
relevant piece of work and offers great insight to the various and sometimes ignored or unseen facets
of the way a city organizes itself despite the city planning process. The book is considered many
professionals involved in the planning and design of cities a must read even today. In the book, Jacob
s states that she has identified four criteria which must be present in an urbanized environment for it to
be place which will naturally promote a self sustaining, and resilient socioeconomic character. The set
of the four criteria can be used a framework and a tool that will aid the planning process of the new
urbanism. The wave of change to be more sustainable is gaining some steam at present in Phoenix.
Which is a relatively large (7 million people) in the metropolitan area which is located in the
southwest United states. The City of Phoenix is my employer and where I currently reside. Therefore,
it must be said, that my conclusion s may have some element of bias in them even though I will make
a very concerted effort to avoid it. I expect that my evaluation of the presence or absence of the four
criteria will provide a point of reference which can be used to predict the

Laocoon And His Sons Essay
One of the most iconic work of art during the Hellenistic Age was the statue known as Laocoon Group
or Laocoon and His Sons. Hellenism art was based on the respect people had for the Greek culture.
The Hellenistic Age lasted from 323 BCE during the death of Alexander the Great, to 30 BCE shortly
after the battle of Actium in 31 BCE. The countries and colonies in the eastern Mediterranean were the
ones with the highest influence of the Hellenistic art. The statue of Laocoon and His Sons portrays
Laocoon and his two sons, Antiphas and Thymbraeus, being attacked by what it looks to be snakes.
Originally, when found the statue had various parts missing. Laocoon s right arm was missing. Also
part of the hand of one of the sons was missing along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

They can see what the sculptor was trying to accomplish. Another reason why I think this statue is a
good work of art is because of all the stories that come with it. Nobody knows one hundred percent
what story the statue is actually portraying or if it s even one of the stories that people suggest. It could
be portraying a totally different story. That s why I like it and find it very interesting because it leaves

Plant Growth Of The Brassica Rapa
Background There is a drought in California which is in turn affecting the number of crops that can be
grown in a given amount of time. Farmers now must find a way to grow crops in an economical
fashion while also maximizing each yield as much as possible. However, plant growth can be
influenced by seed variety, the amount of water, the soil type, amount of light, etc., and many other
variables. For this experiment, we are testing the growth of the Brassica rapa, a mustard plant under
the same conditions of water, sunlight, and oxygen, with two different treatment solutions. There will
be two pots, one has a treatment of just deionized water and the other a treatment of fertilizer as well
as deionized water. Because the fertilizer has the added benefit of nitrogen, phosphorous, and
potassium along with the same quantity of deionized water as the first pot, it is hypothesized that both
sets of plants will grow, however the pot with fertilizer will grow more than the pot with just water
treatment. In the Fertilizer Responses of Volunteer Longleaf Pine Trees within a Loblolly Pine
Plantation: Separating Direct Effects from Competition Effects paper, an experiment on the effect of
fertilization on two trees was done. Before the experiment was initiated, it was known that fertilization
increases the growth and productivity of the loblolly pine tree, while it was hypothesized that the
longleaf pine tree is less responsive to fertilization (Anderson, 2009). The results of the

The Fabrication Of Louis Xiv
In the introduction to The Fabrication of Louis XIV, Peter Burke expresses his ambition to write a
study of Louis XIV s public image as a whole and the changes it underwent throughout Louis s reign.
This book examines the relation between art and power and the official structures responsible for
making fabricating the image, or more appropriately, the images of Louis XIV, as well as their
contemporary reception. As the title suggests and as Burke himself reminds the reader, the book as a
whole focuses on the ideas of royal myth and royal narrative, and the manipulation of information.
Chapters two to eight follow each other chronologically, and examine how the image of Louis XIV
changed during his reign. Chapter two pays particular attention to the different media used by the king
and his image makers . This chapter is a good introduction to the different styles and genres used to
create royal images, for example by comparing classicism and baroque and explaining recurrent
allegories, metaphors and commonplaces used in the representations of Louis XIV. Chapters two to
four give us the necessary background to understand the study of the relation between art and power in
the time of Louis XIV. Whilst in chapter three, Peter Burke concentrates on how royal representations
respond to contemporary events, he then is primarily concerned in chapter four with the construction
of the structures of glorification of the king. The reader is introduced to two key figures in

The Importance Of The Heroic Tale Of Sundiata
Throughout history, storytellers have used fantastic fables to entertain his or her audience. Filled with
larger than life characters and amazing tales of heroism, on the surface these fables simply seem like
mass entertainment much in the same way comic book heroes entertain us today on the silver screen.
However, most of the time these epic, fantastic tales have a much deeper purpose for both the
storyteller and the audience. While the stories aim to entertain, more importantly, the epic tales exist to
hand down crucial histories from generation to generation. This is important to the culture in which
the story takes place, and is a true observation for the story of Sundiata, the founding of the Mali
Empire, and the descendants of these Mali people. While on the surface, the story is a heroic tale of
Sundiata s early life as he overcomes many obstacles, defeats mystical and magical foes, and finally
emerges triumphant, it is really a tale designed to teach the audience the history of the Mali Empire
and the values and culture of the Mali people. This is tremendously important to the Mali people back
when the story was first told and is still important to them today.
As a historical oral epic, the tale of Sundiata tells the reader the story of the creation of the Mali
Empire. The events of the tale take place during the early 13th century and detail the early, difficult
life of Sundiata up until his final victory over the evil Soros. After this victory, Sundiata

Ancient Egyptian Influence on Modern Religion Essay
Egypt is considered the birthplace of many world religions. It contains some of the oldest religious
artifacts, texts, and art that can be traced to modern religions. Signs of early Egyptian religion date
back to the Predynastic period, beginning with evidence of polytheistic worship. Many scholars have
researched the development of Ancient Egyptian religion over the centuries and have studied the
direct correlation between it and the modern religions of Judaism and Christianity. Questions arise as
to whe Judaism developed because of social and political conditions of Ancient Egypt or rather
through conscious adaptation of Egyptian stories, values, and traditions. Was it through divine

Ptah was also a creator god who built the boats that carried the souls of the dead into the Underworld.
Osiris was the ruler of the Underworld and husband to Isis, the goddess of fertility and the ideal wife.
Isis song, Horus, was the god of the sky and depicted with a hawk like head often portrayed with a
double crown. These deities were worshipped daily by the Egyptians in temples built by the ruling
pharaoh and his priests. The pharaoh was viewed as the intermediary between the deities and his
people. Through his kingship and divine power, he was expected to maintain universal peace and
order. Egyptians also underwent extensive and excessive processes to preserve their souls after death

Ancient Egyptian Religion ). The concept of life after death is rooted in ancient Egyptian religion
where funerary processes and burial rituals were fundamental and crucial to an afterlife. Egypt was

Romans to the acceptance of Christianity as the imperial religion of the empire, Christianity
underwent significant changes in the first few centuries after Christ s ascension. Many Egyptian pagan
beliefs and deity legends were unconsciously transferred to infant Christian faith and reformed in
stories of the new deity, Jesus. Several elements

Achilles In The Odyssey
Achilles refused extra service, and therefore the Greeks were very defeated because Achilles allowed
Patroclus to come like him, giving him his car and his weapons. Hector (King Priam s first son of
Troy) killed Patroclus, and Achilles, who eventually joined Agamemnon, received new weapons from
Hephaestus and killed Hector. After hitting the body of Hector behind his car, Achilles gave Priam to
his hard request. Iliad has ceased with the Hector funeral ceremony. It does not mention the death of
Achilles, though the Odyssey says its funeral. Poetry Arctinus in his Ethiopia gathered the story of
Iliad and explained that Achilles, after killing the Emperor Memnon and the Amazoni Penthedonian,
was killed in the battle with the son of Priam, Paris, whose arrow was led by Apollo.

Essay about Sculptures in James Baldwin s If Beale Street...
In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, Written by Himself, Douglass
describes his overseer as a man of the most inflexible firmness and stone like coolness (Andrews 181).
He adds that his mistress s tender heart became stone (Andrews 188). When he first tries to free
himself from such people, Douglass ends up all alone, within the walls of a stone prison (Andrews
208). Throughout these references, the image of stone is repeatedly linked with the stonehearted and
dramatic Caucasian oppression of African Americans. James Baldwin also includes images of stone

10 Important Criteria to Choose a Pc

Processor refers to CPU (Central Processing Unit) which is the brains of the computer where most
calculations take place. In terms of computing power, processor is the most important element of a
computer system. Without it, a computer cannot even boot up or running. The performance of
processors determines the speed and the performance of the notebook as well. Whether a computer
system can run smooth or not is also depend on the performance of processor.
Most of the processors of notebooks can be divided into two types, which are Intel based and AMD
based. AMD chips usually less expensive and notebooks based on them are cheaper then Intel based

This will let us know what upgrade potential the system has. Then, we need to look at the ways in
which you intent to use your laptop in order to determine the right amount of system memory, or
RAM needed. If you only need your laptop to perform the usual tasks of emailing, typing on word
processing, spreadsheets, etc. then a standard RAM of 256MB should be enough, which is a common
configuration on most laptops, hence you probably won t need to spend more for more RAM.
However, for storing digital photographs and videos or other multimedia contents, you should equip
your laptop with as much RAM as it can accommodate. Certainly the more memory in a notebook
system the better, but there are other concerns regarding memory in notebooks. Notebooks are
generally more restricted in the amount of memory that can be installed into a system.
The rule of thumb that use for all computer systems for determining if it has enough memory is to
look at the requirements of the software intended to run. Pick up the boxes for each of the applications
and the OS that you intend to run and look at both the minimum and recommended requirements.
Typically you want to have more RAM than the highest minimum and ideally at least as much as the
highest listed recommended requirement.
It is best to check the requirements of the intended software to make the final decisions. This is not
accurate for all computer tasks because some operating systems use more memory than others.

Fascism And Nazism Similarities
Fascism and Nazism. Both once prominent forms of government during the 20th century, and now the
number of countries that use either one of these governments is diminishing. Fascism and Nazism
both emerged because of a general crisis of the European political system during the late 19th century
to the end of World War 1. Fascism was motivated by the fears of of social as well as political
disintegration, and of political revolution on the part of both ruling of the lower and middle classes
(Encylopedia.com Editors, 2017). Europe would later see many Nazi and Fascists movements during
the time period between World War 1 and World War 2; however, in only Italy and Germany did these
forms of government manage to come to power and develop into their respective regimes
(Encylopedia.com Editors, 2017). While these two once prominent governments share some
similarities, they also share many differences.
Fascism first exploded onto the political scene during the 1919 as the first mass movement of of the
middle class citizens in both Italy as well as Germany. In this political party, important sections of the
economic and political establishments sought out to attempt to preserve the status quo in the
revolutionary times (Encylopedia.com Editors, 2017). This form of government appealed to many
lower and middle class citizens because it made it seem that they were at control of the political party.

Pillow Method Paper
Pillow Method Paper
The pillow method is a five step process used to resolve a disagreement or enable two people to gain
understanding from a disagreement. The process involves each individual to look at the problem
through five different perspectives. These steps or perspectives include: I m right you re wrong , You
re right I m wrong , both right both wrong , this issue isn t important , and the truth is in all
perspectives (Alder Proctor, p. 104). The purpose of the pillow method is for each person to gain
insight from each step in the process. By looking at the problem from multiple perspectives each
person gets the chance to enhance their cognitive complexity (Alder Proctor, p. 104). In this paper I ...

Guns are a major problem in our society and the numbers of these gun related murders are continuing
to rise. On top of the murders you also have people losing their lives through misfire and gun related
suicides. The total death toll of all gun related deaths averages over 30,000 per year in the U.S.
(http://blogs.kqed.org/lowdown/2013/03/07/u s gun deaths visualizing the numbers/). I believe that
enforcing stricter gun laws will contribute to getting these numbers lower. The numbers do not lie, we
as a society have a problem with gun violence and we need to do something to fix it.
You re right I m wrong : This step in the pillow method requires me to look at the problem from my co
workers point of view while trying to find the flaws in my own argument (Alder Proctor, p. 104).
Switching perspectives, I can see my coworker s point on how introducing new gun laws can lead to a
slippery slope. There is always the chance that the enforcement of new gun laws could not have a
significant affect on the rate of gun related deaths in our country. This also could lead to tougher laws
being put in place until we reach the point were guns are banned all together. If guns were to be
banned all together, it would put law abiding citizens at risk of criminals who disregard the law. It
would put Americans citizens at risk of martial law

Fall Of France 1940-1940 Research Paper
The fall of France in 1940 was inevitable. During the course of World War 1, France was hit with
many huge blows which brings up the question if the fall of France could or could not be prevented.
For instance, Germany invaded them and they faced several casualties from the start to 1940.
Germany s attack on the Ardenne Forest severely weakened France. Hitler making his troops go to
Durik where the French were also weakened France. The fall of France was inevitable because of the
German strength compared to France, change in regime in France, and French problem from 1939
1940.
The fall of France could have been prevented with the creation of radios to communicate with each
other, and new lines of defense. They would essentially need more ... Show more content on

The French government, in office since 21 March 1940, had been ousted on 16 June 1940 in a cabinet
crisis at Bordeaux (The Fall of France, 1940) . This crisis happened because of the onrushing
Germans. Marshal Philippe Pétain came to power because of his anti democratic agenda and a
readiness to submit to the German conquest (The Fall of France, 1940). He was basically a puppet for
Germany so that they didn t have to worry about France overthrowing them. He and his supporters
accepted the Armistice terms proposed by Germany. There, on 10 July 1940, with just 81 dissidents,
they voted liberated forces to Pétain, who framed another, hostile to law based, against Semitic and
misanthropic administration, the French State , its authorities and pastors introduced in the inns of
Vichy. It was the fall of the Third Republic and the begin of France s dull trip down what Pétain called
the way of coordinated effort with Hitler (The Fall of France, 1940). This was at smart move for
Germany because if they pick someone who agrees with Germany, then the France would never
returned to it usual strength, and would be blinded on how sick Germany is because of the president s
doing. The German influence in politics contributed to the fall of the France that prevented them from

The XTL (Anything to Liquid) Process Essay
XTL (Anything to Liquid) is recently emerging phrase that represented all of technologies intended to
convert any source of carbon to liquid hydrocarbons. These processes have at least three main steps:
syngas production, Fischer Tropsch Synthesis (FTS) and product finalizing. Syngas production might
be different from feed and technology point of view and these differences affect all downstream units
partially. In this step, source of carbon converted to syngas which is a mixture of hydrogen and carbon
monoxide. Origin of the letter X in the XTL phrase depends on this carbon source since B stands for

Also it is comprehended by review of academic literatures such as articles and dissertations that GTL
is more attractive than any other XTL technologies. Although pipeline is a routine method for
transmission of natural gas in countries with huge amount of this wealth [10] but GTL also have its
own value in monetizing natural gas source to easily vendible liquid hydrocarbons. So many of

catalyst is the most attractive issue in different fields such as promoters and formulation [11, 12],

other new catalysts.
Beside catalyst, reactor design is of high importance. There are different types of reactors for
performing FTS such as multi tubular fixed bed reactors (also named trickle bed reactor, developed by
Shell), Slurry Bubble Column Reactors (or SBCR, developed by Sasol), Fluidized bed and circulating
fluidized bed reactors (namely Synthol, invented by Kellogg and developed by Sasol) [9, 14, 15].

Compare and Contrast two ethical theories.
In this essay I have chosen to compare two opposing theories, Immanuel Kant s absolutist
deontological ethics and Joseph Fletchers relativist situation ethics. The deontological ethics focuses
on actions made according to duty and the categorical imperative which shows how acts are
intrinsically good or bad. The situation ethics state that no act is intrinsically good or bad, and that
actions should b made according to love. From this perspective it looks as thought Kant s views were
less personal than Fletcher s, although in actuality both focus on the best outcome for humans.
Deontological ethics is concerned with actions, not consequences. To act with good intention but have
a bad outcome is still moral. Similarly if the intention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fletcher believed that there are three types of ethical theories; legalistic ethics, antinomian ethics and
situation ethics. Deontology would be considered legalistic as it uses moral law as a set of
prefabricated rules much like in Christian traditions, which focus on natural moral law and the
commandments from the bible. According to Fletcher this would lead to problem s when life s
difficulties require additional laws. To explain this he used an example of murder once murder has
been prohibited one has to clarify the meaning in relation to killing in self defence, abortion, killing in
war, euthanasia and so on. A legalist would have to accommodate them. Fletcher rejected this as it can
create confusion there would be too many rules to learn.
Antinomian ethics is the direct opposite of legalistic ethics. All decisions are made spontaneously as if
every situation was unique. There are no ethical rules antinomian meaning against law .
it is literally unprincipled, purely ad hoc and casual. They are exactly, anarchic i.e. without a rule.
Fletcher (1963).
Fletcher was equally critical of antinomianism as there is on structure to it.
The third approach to ethics is situational ethics. This approach seems to be a compromise between
legalistic and antinomian views as a situationist follows the rules of society, but will set them aside if
love seems better served by doing so.

Essay On Vietnam Protest And Protest
The Power of the People Anarchic, civil, radical, militant, and rebellions people is what police officers
have to face on a regular basis. Both Vietnam protest and protest today are rebelling against the
government. During the Vietnam War, citizens were protesting against the U.S government to stop the
war and send American soldiers back home. Today people still manage to go out into the streets to
protest for the government to stop discriminating certain groups like Muslims and immigrants. Is
protesting a productive, patriotic act or is protesting a counter productive, productive subversive act?
Even though people think that protesting is a counterproductive, subversive act, protesting is a
productive, patriotic act and people should be able to do it.
Protest have been used throughout our nation s history in order to reform or implement the ideas that
seem just to our nation s people. The history of protest in America would mainly be because of the
government, either the government would be at war or it would be legalizing and denying laws people
just don t like. Nowadays there are laws that have established Americans right to protest. As indicated

Family and Systemic Therapies
The emergence of family and systemic therapies in the latter part of the 20th century saw something of
a paradigm shift in the world of psychotherapy and counseling. Those in the field during the 1960 s
and 1970 s were predominantly occupied with psychodynamic, behavioural and humanistic
approaches (Corey, 2009). Theories attached to these forms of therapy emphasized the autonomy of
the individual, and the capacity to engage in free, independent choice. In therapeutic settings, much of
the discussion would also typically be focused on cause and effect , in other words; seeking an
explanation for why a person was thinking, feeling or behaving in a particular manner. Less attention
would be focused on the context of the individuals experience, and the matter of how a situation came
to be as it is (Bowen, 1972).
This idea however is central to what would later become the practice of family and systemic therapies.
Family therapy advocates using practices that specifically address historical, contextual and
constitutional factors, including working with all members of the extended family and wider social
network as well as coaching people to manage their constraints within their unit (Carr, 2012).
Systemic therapy has its roots in family systems theory, which was pioneered by Murray Bowen, an
American psychiatrist who originally practiced within the psychoanalytic model, but later shifted his
focus to the role of family dynamics and dimensions of the family as a system during

Weapons of the American Civil War Essay
Weapons of the American Civil War
Amongst the most lasting of factors stemming from the Civil War are the weapons that were
developed. Before the Civil War, the weapons used were highly unreliable, and were not advanced
enough to provide the needed defense for a young nation such as our own. Innovative minds created
many interesting ways to demolish their enemies without ever having to fire a shot or go into full
combat through different types of bombs that were in disguise. Among the advancements in the Civil
War were the torpedo, the carbine rifle, the minie` ball, several models of rifle muskets, rocket
launchers, rocket bombs, Greek Fire, and a wide array of other secret weapons.
Torpedoes were quite possibly the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A few years of development and a patent later, the minie` ball was ready for combat. In the 1850 s,
James H. Burton, a master of arms, made a few alterations such as slightly lengthening the bullet and
thinning the walls of the hollow base. These alterations made the minie` ball much easier and cheaper
to mass produce; this is what was used by the blue and gray s out on the battlefields.
The Union soldiers were more likely to carry the U.S. Model 1861 Springfield Rifle Musket than any
other weapon. These guns were not the easiest or most convenient weapons even if they were the most
common. The Model 1861 was a .58 caliber gun, was 58.5 inches long, and weighed in at a heavy
9.25 pounds. This rifle was nicknamed The Widow Maker. This nickname was made with great thanks
to the minie` bullet which was an integral part of this rifle musket. The combination of the rifle
musket and the minie` bullet forever changed the face of warfare; thus because for the first time ever,
men could aim at a distant target, and have a decent chance of hitting it. This luxury allowed the gun
bearers to hide in a safe place, yet still be able to knock down their target. Colonel George Hanger, an
American Revolution officer, wrote in 1814:
A soldier s musket if not exceedingly ill bored (as many are), will strike

Company Culture Influences Behavior Within A Company
Businesses do not exist in a vacuum. It is hard to even imagine one that is completely isolated from
external input. In fact, they are constantly subjected to influence from both the outside and the inside.
In open systems, a relationship exists between a business and its surroundings in which awareness of
that constant input and output is vital. In order for a startup company like Everyday Indulgence to
move forward strategically and become successfully established, its leadership must identify and
consider both internal and external environments.

Using the example of dessert delivery service, Everyday Indulgence, setting the tone within the startup
business is especially important early on, when there are only a few employees. A wide variety of
tasks will be shouldered by a small team of people and there is bound to be a significant learning
curve. Hiring individuals with values that are aligned with the company s is a good start and
continuous training with an ever present owner/manager will further develop employee confidence
and expertise. Mentoring and training employees leads to a desirable output in the form of both
product and service, while poorly trained staff produce the opposite. Communication, written, verbal,
and in the form of daily staff meetings will foster an atmosphere of teamwork, support, and
comradery, whereas lack of communication on such a small team will lead to disorganization and a
disconnected feeling among team members. The success or failure of startup companies like Everyday
Indulgence is greatly impacted by its internal environment.
Also a powerful influence on a company, the external environment, including both the general and
task/competitive environments, refers to all outside forces that affect said organization. Some general
environmental factors are the following: laws, economy,

Critical Analysis Of Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 critiques the damage of the forcible coercion of a conformist society
and comments on the dangers of technology and mass consumption. Written in 1953, Bradbury
critiques McCarthyism and its enforcement by creating a fictitious dystopian society in which the
alienation of aberrations parallels with the persecution of communist enthusiasts. The narrative
follows protagonist, Guy Montag, who realises the effects of the restriction of knowledge. Resultantly,
Bradbury narrates that totalitarianism and technology are a threat to humanism, individuality, and
intellectual thought. HOW DID CRITICS VIEW IT? HOW IS THE NOVEL VIEWED?
With a world centred approach, Louis Althusser s Marxist notion of ideological state apparatuses
demonstrates the influential dominance of the educational system and media. Fahrenheit 451 follows
an enforcer of society s ideological values despising the communicative ideological state apparatus
(i.e. media) and forcibly tearing himself away from the ideologies enforced by both repressive and
ideological state apparatuses. Complimentary to Marxist critical theory, Michel Foucault s notion of
poststructuralism surveys individuality or lack thereof in a panoptic society. Similarly, an individual
abandons the social constructs deemed normal in the hopes of gaining individuality and intellectual
thought. With the application of Marxist and poststructuralist critical theories, Guy Montag s positive
metamorphosis and his

Expectations for the leadership team beginning January 1, 2017: the leadership team will be expected
to audit all entered sales within XYZ Software in order to track the success and opportunities of the
sales team. Leadership personnel are to review pending and finalized sales with sales staff at all team
and one on one meetings. Sales statistics generated from the automated system are to be reviewed at
all leadership team meeting to help prepare for future sales decisions and strategies.
Change Process
Climate of Change
First step within the change process is to create a climate of change for the employees. Not just for the
sales associates or for the leadership staff that it affects, but for the entire organization. It is essential
that the entire organization is aware of the impeding change, even if they are not directly affected by
it. By creating a climate of change for the entire organization it aids in producing a climate of
understanding for any delays or frustration caused by the change.
Promoting a climate of change. In order to promote a climate of change the first step is to
communicate the change from the top to all employees. The first step of communication will consist
of an employee advisory coming from leadership at the very genesis of the software being built. The
advisory will consist of high level information that will include the vision and strategy of the change.

The energy demand all over the world is expected to be 28 terawatts by 2050, which can lead to
increase of energy consumption patterns and greenhouse gas production. (P.Alivisatos et al. 2005) One
of the most significant issues the industrialised world is facing today is the energy challenge, issues
associated with energy production, storage and reducing consumption of energy use. The use of
energy has reason to rise over time due to an increase in the world population and the discovery of
new technologies which require electrical energy. The electrical energy is used everywhere, from

The aim of this paper is to analyse the use of nanotechnology in alternative energy production, storage
and as a means of reducing energy consumption. Roger A.Hinriches and Merlin Kleinbach (2006)
declared (claimed) that every day the earth surface receives thousands of times more energy from the
Sun than it consumed in all other resources . Cleanliness, availability and renewability of solar energy
make it virtually ideal. (Grant E.Gardner, 2008). The use of solar energy for production of electricity
is based on the photoelectric effect. The photoelectric effect is a process, when light strikes certain
metals and, as a result, electrons are emitted from the metal surface. (Hugh D.Young, Roger
A.Freedman 2008). Photovoltaic cells (PV), known as solar cells, are devices which collect radiation
energy in the form of sunlight and convert into electricity. Solar cells are made of semiconducting
materials, especially silicon. Silicon absorbs photons of light which strike the cells. The energy of the
absorbed light transfers to the silicon semiconductor, after that this energy pushes electrons out. This
is why the can flow freely which leads to the emergence of electric current. The electrical energy from
solar cells can then be used directly. However, considerable amount of solar energy on PV cells

Gross Domestic Product Is The Measure Of A Nation s Total...
Gross Domestic Product is the curative measure of a nation s total economic activity. It represents the
monetary value of all goods and services produced within a nation s geographic borders over a
specified period of time. In other words, it s how to tell how the economy of a country is doing. It is
the total dollar valued of all goods and services; the size of the economy usually in a given year. GDP
first came into use in 1937 in a report to the US Congress in response to the Great Depression, after
Russian economist Simon Kuznets conceived the system of measurement. The system used before
was the Gross National Product (GNP). It was widely adopted in 1944 as the standard means to
measure national economist. The income approach to calculate the GDP is the sum of the components.
Labor income, rental income, interest income, and profits earned by households in a year. What is
spent on a product is the income to those who helped to produce it and sell it. The expenditure
approach, on the other hand, totals consumption, investment, government spending, and net exports
produced by a country in a year. The first component of the GDP is consumption. It includes all
private and public consumption, government outlays, investments, and exports minus imports that
occur within a defined territory. Is normally the largest GDP component. Many persons judge the
economic performance of their economic performance of their country mainly in terms of
consumption level of dynamics.

Piaget And Piaget Similarities
The human brain has always been a subject of great interest to psychologists and researches. Over the
years, many theorists have developed different models and approaches on how the mind works and
what happens behind the scene when learning occurs. Scientifically speaking, learning theorists have
been concerned about areas of psychology of learning which emphasizes human cognition or
intelligence as a special endowment enabling man to form hypotheses and develop intellectually in
other words cognitivism which is also known as cognitive development
(Teachinglearningresources.pbworks.com, 2011). Therefore, cognitive development is concerned
about how learning, problem solving and memory works along with how cultural differences affect
the way we view our own academic achievements, language development, and much more (Feldman,
2010). Two famous influential theorists of cognitivism are Jean Piaget (1896 1980) and Jerome Bruner

Persuasive Essay On True Education
A true education can be defined as enough knowledge given to a student to be successful after
completing school. The purpose of school is to give students this true education, but as time passes, so
must the old ways of accomplishing this. Reformists have made an effort to adjust the education
system to accompany the changing economy and surpass competition, and in doing so, have lost sight
of a true education. The schools of today s society attempt to prepare students for the future by
providing them with basic academic skills; although these skills are handy for doing well on
standardized tests, they are nearly ineffectual for thriving in daily life.
The first time the education of children became serious was in the Age of Enlightenment. During this
time, the quality of education was based on the economy, thus it was a primitive basis of education.
The current education system still runs on some of these old ideas, but in truth, the validity of these
principles has expired (RSA). However, the education system has developed somewhat, and some
aspects of the information taught to students have advanced. Nevertheless, it is advancing in the
wrong direction. The education students receive prepares them for college; it doesn t prepare them for
any other pathway. When we went to school, we were kept there with a story which is if you worked
hard and did well and got a college degree, you would have a job (RSA). This is a common
misconception presently, because some students choose not to attend college, and they find success
elsewhere. The mentality that one has to go to college to become successful is inapt and was more
accurate in the Age of Enlightenment, when those without an education simply ended up in the
factories and coal mine with insufficient wages.
One effect from the changing view of the ideal education system is the pressure on the schools
themselves. With a rapidly changing world, countries find themselves competing for the upper hand;
this includes having the best educated citizens. Hence, the US tries to cram as much information into
the heads of students as fast as possible. The students have only the slightest understanding of what
they learned before they are pushed on to the next subject.

The movie The Deer Hunter is one of the greatest works of Robert De Niro, John Cazale and
Christopher Walken set by the year 1978. The first hour of the movie appears dull if the viewers are
expecting tragic drama or Melodrama move. However, after that, it thrusts one entirely to the war
theater. It brings a thorough understanding of the war in Vietnam and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD). It carries our mind into the dark terrains of the Asian nation Vietnam where the American
forces face a brutal resistance war with the Vietnamese. It provides the viewer with the most gut
wrenching and disturbing examinations of the war until the end of the movie. In this particular scene,
the effects of PTSD on war veterans are shown through Nick. ... Show more content on

In the United States of America, there are hundreds of thousands of men and women that experience
the symptoms of PTSD, starting from mild depression to losing the purpose of living. It is a fact that
most mild and moderate cases of PTSD can be treated and controlled with proper medical therapy and
social support. These PTSD veterans have earned their right to be treated with dignity, compassion,

Chemical Castration Essay
A Critical Analysis of the Effects of Chemical Castration and Physical Castration on the Recidivism
Rates of Sex Offenders
Introduction
This paper examines the effects of chemical castration and physical castration on the recidivism rates
of sex offenders.
Using theory integration or the multifactor approach, the findings reveal there are several factors
influencing sex offender recidivism. Both chemical castration and physical castration have the
potential to reduce the recidivism rates of sex offenders by lowering testosterone levels, diminishing
sexual urges, and making sexual urges more controllable if the sexual urges are motivated by
increased testosterone levels. Based on theory integration, most sex offences ... Show more content on

Chemical castration has been studied for the last twenty five years, however, due to the newness of
legislation in the
United States, there have not been many long term research projects involving the effectiveness of
chemical castration in reducing sex offender recidivism rates completed in the United States.
However, one such study by Meyer, Cole, and Emory published in 1997 looks promising. The study
compared recidivism rates of 40 convicted sex offenders treated over a period of years with
medroxyprogesterone and psychotherapy, with recidivism rates of offenders who refused
medroxyprogesterone therapy but received psychotherapy and found that only 18% receiving
medroxyprogesterone re offended, while 35% of those not receiving therapy re offended. Physical or
surgical castration is the removal of the testes and replacement with prostheses in order to reduce
testosterone production, therefore, diminishing sexual urges and making behavior more controllable.
Sex offenders can opt to have surgical castration; however, it is not mandated by state legislatures in
the United States. As with chemical castration, there has not been extensive or long term research on
the use of surgical castration to reduce the recidivism rates of sex offenders in the United States.
According to Robert Prentky (1997), surgically castrated sex offenders show significantly improved
recidivism rates as

The Religious Event I Chose Essay
The religious event I chose was the Walk to Emmaus. This is a seventy two hour course on
Christianity. It takes place at Settle United Methodist Church started at 7:00 pm on Thursday and
ended on Sunday at 6:00 pm. Once I arrive a lady meets me at the door and says what road are you on,
on your faith journey. I stop for a minute to think and reply I really don t know at this point. I have
been dealing with a lot these past few months. I have questioned my faith, and at times even felt
abandoned. She grabs my hand and says, So let us get you registered then. Following registration there
is an introduction to explain what will take place the next few days along with an orientation.
Welcome everyone the lady begins. She continues to explain that in the next three days, that Emmaus
will teach us to inspire, challenge, and equip us for Christian action in our homes, community, and
work. There will be no cell phones, television, or internet. Finally that night we are told there will be
an evening prayer and then silence to reflect until morning. Once I am settled in an elderly lady comes
and sits beside me. I did not see this lady earlier in the group. She says to me all your questions will be
answered. I look at her and say All of them, really? How does He have all the time for me, with
everyone else s prayers needing answered also? She smiles and walks away. I lay down to try to sleep,
but I can t I am too worried about Connor. With Connor s health at question and

Relationships In Dante s Inferno And Gunther
Throughout this semester all of the assigned texts have relationships between characters. There was
female female, male female, and male male relationships. Each of these categories drive the plot with
the use of relationships and bonds typically found between the characters. Today let us focus on male
male groupings and how their relationships were written and interpreted. Since there are many
different pairs to choose from I will be focusing on Dante and Virgil,Siegfried and Gunther, as well as
Roland and Charlemagne. Each of these relationships have similarities and differences that highlight
and expand upon the character s traits. To start off with in The Divine Comedy, Dante and Virgil s
relationship can be interpreted as Guide and pupil, pseudo familial, or even of a tyrant. The
relationship demonstrated from the first page describes
And I to him: Poet, I beg of you, in the name of God, that God you never knew, save me from this evil
place and worse, lead me there to the place you spoke about that I may see the gate Saint Peter guards
and those whose anguish you have told me of. Then he moved on, and I moved close behind him. (Inf
I,130 136).
This description of guide and follower starts from the beginning and Virgil leads the inexperienced
Dante through the nine depths of hell. Dante asks the poet to lead ... Show more content on

The Pros And Cons Of Canadian Ski Adas
Canada never has a shortage of snowfall and therefore there is never a shortage of top Canada ski
resorts. Many ski enthusiasts will make the journey north every year because Canada has so many
great resorts and who can blame them? One question that is often posed is, that with so many great ski
resorts, which Canada ski resorts are the best of the best?
Canada ski resorts really stretch across the whole country and the best ski resorts in the eyes of many
are located in British Columbia and Quebec. Here are the tops among all the Canadian greats:
* Whistler/Blackcomb Resort: Found in the British Columbia Mountains, this resort is only about two
hours away from Vancouver. There is over 8,000 acres of skiable terrain which means there is going ...

Known for its powdery snow and scenic setting of the Purcell Range of the Rockies, this ski
destination is one that every ski enthusiast should try to get to. A trip down these slopes will leave you
in utter ecstasy for some time to come.
* Mont Tremblant Resort: Located in Quebec and only a one hour drive from Montreal, this ski resort
has something for everyone. Known to play host to a good number of tourists per year, the only gripe
with this ski mecca is that it tends to be a bit more on the expensive side, but it is always a hopping
place and the slopes are never at a loss for magic or action. The village at the bottom of the slopes
caters to locals and visitors alike and makes for a warm welcome when you are not shushing down the
sloped.
* Le Massif Resort: While the number of skiable acres is only a scant 410, you can rest assured that
this doesn t mean a shortage on challenges. In fact, this ski resort is more tailored to the advanced
skier versus the beginner, though there are some slopes for the beginners as well. It is in close
proximity to Quebec City so there is no shortage of things to do when you are not hitting the slopes.
Although, you shouldn t expect to do much more than ski at this resort as many of the locals peg this
mountain as their favorite to

Executive Summary
This essay discuss about how Starbucks utilizes its marketing mix in order to gain market share.
Starbucks, which has been in the coffeehouse industry for 41 years, face higher competition than
before. Even so, Starbucks is able to not only survive through this, but they are able to be one of the
most valuable global brands (Theodore 2002). In its maturity stage, they are capable of expanding
their consumer base despite the fact of increasing competition.
Through the augmentation of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compared to the other coffeehouses, Starbucks has a greater augmentation layer. Now, Starbucks has
provided ice creams, alcoholic beverages, teas and juices in addition to coffee. Not many companies
has this wide range of products sold in the market.
Customer Analysis and Evaluation
The target market for Starbucks Coffee used to be the established customers, which includes the
middle to high economic class of the society such as the elderly and the professional workers who
enjoys high quality coffee. However, as their business expands, its customers are becoming more
diversified. Starbucks target market moves towards the younger, less well educated, and in a lower
income bracket than their more established customers, (Moon).
Starbucks position itself as a brand which provides high quality products and is environmentally
conscious. Nowadays, people are becoming more environmentally friendly due to higher knowledge
on global warming. Therefore, Starbucks is able to improve its brand image by using a recycled
packaging.
Through time, Starbucks reposition itself not to be too concentrated on coffee itself but to diversify
their products. This is shown by changing their brand logo in 2011. Because its product is in its
maturity stage it is important for them to diversify its products and differentiate themselves against
competitors.
Consumers are exposed to different types of goods

Relationship Between Love And Friendship Essay
When discussing love, people generally think about the love between a husband and wife, or the love
between a couple in a romantic partnership, and that is one type of love that I will be discussing. In
addition to romantic love, there are other types of love also. There is the love we have for our children,
our families, and also the love that we have for our friends. All of these types of love share some of
the same attributes, however, they have differences also. In reading and researching different types of
love, I have found that romantic love and friendship seem to be the most similar in nature, although
they have differences, they share a lot of the same attributes. I found that friendship and romantic love
tend to have more similarities than differences. In this paper I will examine romantic love and
friendship. I will discuss the definitions of the two, and what elements each of these have. I will
discuss the different theories of love, and I will compare and contrast the similarities and differences
between romantic love and friendship. By friendship, I mean true friendship, or close friendships. I
believe that true friendship is very different from causal friendships. True friendships involve a level
of emotional intimacy that you do not find with causal friendships or acquaintances. If you look in the
dictionary, it will define friendship as the relationship between friends, or the state of being friends
(Merriam Webster.com). I do not find that the

A Study On The Children
Hi Families,
It is almost the end of the year and the students have accomplished so much. I am fortunate enough to
witness exploration and creativity every day with your children. The growth I ve seen so far is
remarkable! Shy little ones who barely spoke back in September are now approaching me and telling
me all about their weekend and their best play date party EVER!
It has been an exciting month in the rainforest! Measurements are all around us and the children have
been measuring up to everything in the classroom. Every day the children have been experimenting
with real objects to gain understanding measurement concepts. To begin this week s lesson, the
children measure and compare the circumference of objects, they measure the distance objects travel,
and they explored the concept of volume by measuring how much of a certain material fits into a
different container.
Below are some of the activities we have done this week.
The children learned that different objects can have the same or different circumference. We started
the lesson by talking about previous measuring activities we did in our Living Things in the
Neighborhood theme. We talked about the activity we did on measuring trees and I asked the children
to recall what we did when we measured the circumference of the trees. Some of the children
remembered the activity and commented that we used a measuring tape to measure the tree. They did
not remember the meaning of the word circumference, so I

  • 4. Theme Of Symbols In Sons And Lovers In Sons and lovers, D.H Lawrence has made a very clever use of symbols. The novel abounds in symbolic objects and events. Yet they are so well integrated with the narrative that they hardly ever appear obtrusive. When understood, these symbols adds to the richness of the novel and enhances our appreciation of the novel. Mark Spikla says The symbolic scenes are extremely literal and the symbols seem to function as integral strands in the webs of emotional tensions. In Sons and Lovers, we have a host of such symbolic scenes which have a catalytic effect upon the intensity of the plot and action in the novel. The description of coal pits is symbolic. In The Phoenix Effect of State Repression: Jewish Resistance during the Holocaust, Evgeny Finkel examines the viability and success of collective action movements, with an emphasis on the particular skills individuals need to organize resistance against oppression. He believes that his paper provides a new explanation of variation in the sustainability of resistance to state repression by linking the sustainability of armed resistance to the skills to mount such a resistance (339). The Death And Life Of Great American Cities By Jane Jacobs Recently I read a book titled The Death and Life of Great American Cities written by Jane Jacobs (1961), which basically criticizes the urban planning processes generally employed in the planning, renovation and rebuilding of cities. Though it was published in 1961, the book is still considered a relevant piece of work and offers great insight to the various and sometimes ignored or unseen facets of the way a city organizes itself despite the city planning process. The book is considered many professionals involved in the planning and design of cities a must read even today. In the book, Jacob s states that she has identified four criteria which must be present in an urbanized environment for it to be place which will naturally promote a self sustaining, and resilient socioeconomic character. The set of the four criteria can be used a framework and a tool that will aid the planning process of the new urbanism. Farmers now must find a way to grow crops in an economical fashion while also maximizing each yield as much as possible. However, plant growth can be influenced by seed variety, the amount of water, the soil type, amount of light, etc., and many other variables. For this experiment, we are testing the growth of the Brassica rapa, a mustard plant under the same conditions of water, sunlight, and oxygen, with two different treatment solutions. There will be two pots, one has a treatment of just deionized water and the other a treatment of fertilizer as well as deionized water. Because the fertilizer has the added benefit of nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium along with the same quantity of deionized water as the first pot, it is hypothesized that both sets of plants will grow, however the pot with fertilizer will grow more than the pot with just water treatment. In the Fertilizer Responses of Volunteer Longleaf Pine Trees within a Loblolly Pine Plantation: Separating Direct Effects from Competition Effects paper, an experiment on the effect of fertilization on two trees was done. • 11. The Fabrication Of Louis Xiv In the introduction to The Fabrication of Louis XIV, Peter Burke expresses his ambition to write a study of Louis XIV s public image as a whole and the changes it underwent throughout Louis s reign. This book examines the relation between art and power and the official structures responsible for making fabricating the image, or more appropriately, the images of Louis XIV, as well as their contemporary reception. As the title suggests and as Burke himself reminds the reader, the book as a whole focuses on the ideas of royal myth and royal narrative, and the manipulation of information. Chapters two to eight follow each other chronologically, and examine how the image of Louis XIV changed during his reign. Chapter two pays particular attention to the different media used by the king and his image makers . This chapter is a good introduction to the different styles and genres used to create royal images, for example by comparing classicism and baroque and explaining recurrent allegories, metaphors and commonplaces used in the representations of Louis XIV. Chapters two to four give us the necessary background to understand the study of the relation between art and power in the time of Louis XIV. Whilst in chapter three, Peter Burke concentrates on how royal representations respond to contemporary events, he then is primarily concerned in chapter four with the construction of the structures of glorification of the king. Filled with larger than life characters and amazing tales of heroism, on the surface these fables simply seem like mass entertainment much in the same way comic book heroes entertain us today on the silver screen. However, most of the time these epic, fantastic tales have a much deeper purpose for both the storyteller and the audience. While the stories aim to entertain, more importantly, the epic tales exist to hand down crucial histories from generation to generation. This is important to the culture in which the story takes place, and is a true observation for the story of Sundiata, the founding of the Mali Empire, and the descendants of these Mali people. While on the surface, the story is a heroic tale of Sundiata s early life as he overcomes many obstacles, defeats mystical and magical foes, and finally emerges triumphant, it is really a tale designed to teach the audience the history of the Mali Empire and the values and culture of the Mali people. This is tremendously important to the Mali people back when the story was first told and is still important to them today. As a historical oral epic, the tale of Sundiata tells the reader the story of the creation of the Mali Empire. • 26. Compare and Contrast two ethical theories. In this essay I have chosen to compare two opposing theories, Immanuel Kant s absolutist deontological ethics and Joseph Fletchers relativist situation ethics. The deontological ethics focuses on actions made according to duty and the categorical imperative which shows how acts are intrinsically good or bad. The situation ethics state that no act is intrinsically good or bad, and that actions should b made according to love. From this perspective it looks as thought Kant s views were less personal than Fletcher s, although in actuality both focus on the best outcome for humans. Deontological ethics is concerned with actions, not consequences. To act with good intention but have a bad outcome is still moral. Similarly if the intention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fletcher believed that there are three types of ethical theories; legalistic ethics, antinomian ethics and situation ethics. Deontology would be considered legalistic as it uses moral law as a set of prefabricated rules much like in Christian traditions, which focus on natural moral law and the commandments from the bible. According to Fletcher this would lead to problem s when life s difficulties require additional laws. To explain this he used an example of murder once murder has been prohibited one has to clarify the meaning in relation to killing in self defence, abortion, killing in war, euthanasia and so on. A legalist would have to accommodate them. Fletcher rejected this as it can create confusion there would be too many rules to learn. Antinomian ethics is the direct opposite of legalistic ethics. All decisions are made spontaneously as if every situation was unique. This approach seems to be a compromise between legalistic and antinomian views as a situationist follows the rules of society, but will set them aside if love seems better served by doing so. the situationist follows a moral law or ... Both Vietnam protest and protest today are rebelling against the government. During the Vietnam War, citizens were protesting against the U.S government to stop the war and send American soldiers back home. Today people still manage to go out into the streets to protest for the government to stop discriminating certain groups like Muslims and immigrants. Is protesting a productive, patriotic act or is protesting a counter productive, productive subversive act? Even though people think that protesting is a counterproductive, subversive act, protesting is a productive, patriotic act and people should be able to do it. Protest have been used throughout our nation s history in order to reform or implement the ideas that seem just to our nation s people. The history of protest in America would mainly be because of the government, either the government would be at war or it would be legalizing and denying laws people just don t like. Nowadays there are laws that have established Americans right to protest. As indicated by the article, Amending the Protest Law On January the Legislative and Constitutional Affairs Committee approved government drafted changes to the protest law (law no.107/2013) following a Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) verdict on 3 December requiring the Interior Ministry to seek a judicial order before banning any ... • 28. Family and Systemic Therapies The emergence of family and systemic therapies in the latter part of the 20th century saw something of a paradigm shift in the world of psychotherapy and counseling. Those in the field during the 1960 s and 1970 s were predominantly occupied with psychodynamic, behavioural and humanistic approaches (Corey, 2009). Theories attached to these forms of therapy emphasized the autonomy of the individual, and the capacity to engage in free, independent choice. In therapeutic settings, much of the discussion would also typically be focused on cause and effect , in other words; seeking an explanation for why a person was thinking, feeling or behaving in a particular manner. Less attention would be focused on the context of the individuals experience, and the matter of how a situation came to be as it is (Bowen, 1972). This idea however is central to what would later become the practice of family and systemic therapies. Family therapy advocates using practices that specifically address historical, contextual and constitutional factors, including working with all members of the extended family and wider social network as well as coaching people to manage their constraints within their unit (Carr, 2012). Systemic therapy has its roots in family systems theory, which was pioneered by Murray Bowen, an American psychiatrist who originally practiced within the psychoanalytic model, but later shifted his focus to the role of family dynamics and dimensions of the family as a system during ... Before the Civil War, the weapons used were highly unreliable, and were not advanced enough to provide the needed defense for a young nation such as our own. Innovative minds created many interesting ways to demolish their enemies without ever having to fire a shot or go into full combat through different types of bombs that were in disguise. Among the advancements in the Civil War were the torpedo, the carbine rifle, the minie` ball, several models of rifle muskets, rocket launchers, rocket bombs, Greek Fire, and a wide array of other secret weapons. These alterations made the minie` ball much easier and cheaper to mass produce; this is what was used by the blue and gray s out on the battlefields. The Union soldiers were more likely to carry the U.S. Model 1861 Springfield Rifle Musket than any other weapon. These guns were not the easiest or most convenient weapons even if they were the most common. The Model 1861 was a .58 caliber gun, was 58.5 inches long, and weighed in at a heavy 9.25 pounds. This rifle was nicknamed The Widow Maker. This nickname was made with great thanks to the minie` bullet which was an integral part of this rifle musket. The combination of the rifle musket and the minie` bullet forever changed the face of warfare; thus because for the first time ever, men could aim at a distant target, and have a decent chance of hitting it. Critical Analysis Of Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 critiques the damage of the forcible coercion of a conformist society and comments on the dangers of technology and mass consumption. Written in 1953, Bradbury critiques McCarthyism and its enforcement by creating a fictitious dystopian society in which the alienation of aberrations parallels with the persecution of communist enthusiasts. The narrative follows protagonist, Guy Montag, who realises the effects of the restriction of knowledge. Resultantly, Bradbury narrates that totalitarianism and technology are a threat to humanism, individuality, and intellectual thought. HOW DID CRITICS VIEW IT? HOW IS THE NOVEL VIEWED? With a world centred approach, Louis Althusser s Marxist notion of ideological state apparatuses demonstrates the influential dominance of the educational system and media. Fahrenheit 451 follows an enforcer of society s ideological values despising the communicative ideological state apparatus (i.e. media) and forcibly tearing himself away from the ideologies enforced by both repressive and ideological state apparatuses. Complimentary to Marxist critical theory, Michel Foucault s notion of poststructuralism surveys individuality or lack thereof in a panoptic society. Roger A.Hinriches and Merlin Kleinbach (2006) declared (claimed) that every day the earth surface receives thousands of times more energy from the Sun than it consumed in all other resources . Cleanliness, availability and renewability of solar energy make it virtually ideal. (Grant E.Gardner, 2008). The use of solar energy for production of electricity is based on the photoelectric effect. The photoelectric effect is a process, when light strikes certain metals and, as a result, electrons are emitted from the metal surface. (Hugh D.Young, Roger A.Freedman 2008). Photovoltaic cells (PV), known as solar cells, are devices which collect radiation energy in the form of sunlight and convert into electricity. Solar cells are made of semiconducting materials, especially silicon. Silicon absorbs photons of light which strike the cells. The energy of the absorbed light transfers to the silicon semiconductor, after that this energy pushes electrons out. This is why the can flow freely which leads to the emergence of electric current. • 41. Persuasive Essay On True Education A true education can be defined as enough knowledge given to a student to be successful after completing school. The purpose of school is to give students this true education, but as time passes, so must the old ways of accomplishing this. Reformists have made an effort to adjust the education system to accompany the changing economy and surpass competition, and in doing so, have lost sight of a true education. The schools of today s society attempt to prepare students for the future by providing them with basic academic skills; although these skills are handy for doing well on standardized tests, they are nearly ineffectual for thriving in daily life. The first time the education of children became serious was in the Age of Enlightenment. During this time, the quality of education was based on the economy, thus it was a primitive basis of education. The current education system still runs on some of these old ideas, but in truth, the validity of these principles has expired (RSA). However, the education system has developed somewhat, and some aspects of the information taught to students have advanced. Nevertheless, it is advancing in the wrong direction. The education students receive prepares them for college; it doesn t prepare them for any other pathway. When we went to school, we were kept there with a story which is if you worked hard and did well and got a college degree, you would have a job (RSA). This is a common misconception presently, because some students choose not to attend college, and they find success elsewhere. The mentality that one has to go to college to become successful is inapt and was more accurate in the Age of Enlightenment, when those without an education simply ended up in the factories and coal mine with insufficient wages. One effect from the changing view of the ideal education system is the pressure on the schools themselves. With a rapidly changing world, countries find themselves competing for the upper hand; this includes having the best educated citizens. Hence, the US tries to cram as much information into the heads of students as fast as possible. The students have only the slightest understanding of what they learned before they are pushed on to the next subject. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The village at the bottom of the slopes caters to locals and visitors alike and makes for a warm welcome when you are not shushing down the sloped. * Le Massif Resort: While the number of skiable acres is only a scant 410, you can rest assured that this doesn t mean a shortage on challenges. In fact, this ski resort is more tailored to the advanced skier versus the beginner, though there are some slopes for the beginners as well. It is in close proximity to Quebec City so there is no shortage of things to do when you are not hitting the slopes. Although, you shouldn t expect to do much more than ski at this resort as many of the locals peg this mountain as their favorite to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition to romantic love, there are other types of love also. There is the love we have for our children, our families, and also the love that we have for our friends. All of these types of love share some of the same attributes, however, they have differences also. In reading and researching different types of love, I have found that romantic love and friendship seem to be the most similar in nature, although they have differences, they share a lot of the same attributes. I found that friendship and romantic love tend to have more similarities than differences. In this paper I will examine romantic love and friendship. True friendships involve a level of emotional intimacy that you do not find with causal friendships or acquaintances. If you look in the dictionary, it will define friendship as the relationship between friends, or the state of being friends (Merriam Webster.com). I do not find that the ... • 50. A Study On The Children Hi Families, It is almost the end of the year and the students have accomplished so much. I am fortunate enough to witness exploration and creativity every day with your children. The growth I ve seen so far is remarkable! Shy little ones who barely spoke back in September are now approaching me and telling me all about their weekend and their best play date party EVER! It has been an exciting month in the rainforest! Measurements are all around us and the children have been measuring up to everything in the classroom. Every day the children have been experimenting with real objects to gain understanding measurement concepts. To begin this week s lesson, the children measure and compare the circumference of objects, they measure the distance objects travel, and they explored the concept of volume by measuring how much of a certain material fits into a different container. Below are some of the activities we have done this week. The children learned that different objects can have the same or different circumference. We started the lesson by talking about previous measuring activities we did in our Living Things in the Neighborhood theme. We talked about the activity we did on measuring trees and I asked the children to recall what we did when we measured the circumference of the trees. Some of the children remembered the activity and commented that we used a measuring tape to measure the tree. They did not remember the meaning of the word circumference, so I ...
