Kia Motors Case Study
There are three ways we can evaluate a company s performance. Financial, operational and overall
effectiveness (Ramsey, J. R., Bahia, B. R., 2013). By looking at financial indicators such as sales
growth, growth of foreign sales and return of investment one can assess if these fulfill the economic
goals that the company have. When using the operational dimension, we look at non financial
elements that may influences the company s performance. This includes market share, new products
introduction, product quality etc. The last of the three, overall effectiveness, evaluates achievement of
goals, perceived overall performance, perceived performance in relations to its competitors etc (Hult,
Ketchen, Griffith, Chabowski, Hamman, Dykes, Pollitte, Cavusgil, 2008). Kia motors is a south
Korean auto manufacturer, founded in 1944 with headquarters in Seoul. On a yearly basis, they
produce more than three million vehicles which is distributed to 180 different countries across the
globe. As of October 2017, they have three assembly plants in South Korea, located in Hwasung,
Sohari and Gwangju in addition they have facilities in USA, Slovakia, China and Mexico. They have
one Research and development (R D) center in Namyang, one eco technology research institute near
Seoul and several R D centers located in USA, Japan and Germany. Besides operating several car
assembly facilities Kia also uses car kits , which are delivered from Korea but built locally to meet

Men Women and Japanese American Intercultural Communication Analysis of the Mitsubishi Case
Introduction It was my first day in high school. Standing alone in the middle of the play ground
looking for anyone I know or can talk to, my eyes was searching all over the place. A pretty blond girl
standing alone was a scene that, for sure, attracted my attention then. The moment my eyes saw her,
my mind started thinking of ways to talk to her. After some time wasted thinking, I saw a girl I know
approaching the blond. Not willing to waste such opportunity, I marched forward toward them. We
had a nice chat through which I got to know the blond girl. She turned out to be a very nice and
friendly French girl who just arrived to Egypt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In April 1996, the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) brought a suit seeking
damages of as much as $300 thousands per women on behalf of 300 female plant employees. The suit
came after 15 month investigations of several sexual harassments complaints at MMMA.
Men vs. Women The idea of different subcultures for males and females, although they live in the
same country, taught the same values, and eat the same food, is not new. Although men and women
live under the same conditions, they are expected to behave and respond differently. Thus as Maltz
puts it: The different social needs of men and women have led them to sexually differentiated
communication cultures, with each sex learning a different set of skills for manipulating words (Maltz,
p.200). Maltz explains this by saying that each one of us learns his communication culture through the
period of, approximately, age 5 to 15, when boys and girls interact socially primarily with members of
their own sex . Not only boys and girls learn to respond differently, but they learn, self consciously, to
differentiate, with exaggeration, their behavior from the other sex (Maltz, p.203). If we talk in terms of
Hofstede four dimensions of cultural differences, then American men culture could be described a
culture that

The Most Important Character In La Boheme
The most important character in La Boheme is the writer Rodolfo who experiences passionate feelings
for his seamstress neighbor, Mimi. Rodolfo offers a garret apartment with three other men: Marcello,
painter; Colline, a logician; and Schaunard, an artist. Marcello likewise is included in a turbulent issue
with his female sweetheart, Musetta. The fundamental characters in Rent, as in La Boheme, are
youthful and ruined in light of the fact that in genuine Bohemian mold, they decide to devote
themselves to their artistic expressions. Larson adds to rent extra characters speaking to the modern
day works of art of film and move. Roger is lyricist/guitarist; Mark, an eventual film producer; Mimi,
an artist in a sex appear and a medication fanatic who turns into Roger s sweetheart; Benny, a former
flat mate of Mark and Roger who wedded the proprietor s little girl; Maureen, an actress who is Mark

Analysis Of Deborah Brandt s Sponsors Of Literacy Essay
Introduction: In Deborah Brandt s essay Sponsors of Literacy, Brandt describes the process of how
people become literate, the effect of their experiences, and influential people on their learning. The
term that Brandt uses frequently to describe those who have a profound influence on a child s learning
is literacy sponsor. She defines literacy sponsors as, Agents, local or distant, concrete, or abstract, who
enable, support, teach, model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy and gain
advantage by it in some way, (Wardle 46). Essentially, Brandt is saying that every literate person has
had the support of a person or idea that inspires their desire to read and write. The concept of
sponsorship can be applied to fields outside of reading and writing too. There are sponsors of science,
sponsors of art, and sponsors of medicine. Similarly, these sponsor help students learn to understand
the principles of their individual fields. This paper focuses on the sponsorship of first year and second
year University of Minnesota Medical School students from the Nu Sigma Nu fraternity. Data was
collected through interviews with four students from this fraternity. The guiding question for this
research paper was, Can Brandt s definition of literacy sponsor be applied to other fields of learning,
such as the medical field. If it is found that the definition for sponsorship can be applied to the medical
field, then sponsorship can be applied to other

The Most Important Part Of Prescribing An Exercise Program
Exercise Assessment The most important part of prescribing an exercise program is the proper
assessment of the client to ensure they are physically, mentally, and healthy enough to engage in a
certain type of program. With any female client 55 years of age or older, risk for cardiovascular
disease (CVD) should always be assessed. This will help determine how to properly proceed with the
development of an exercise program. According to the ACSM s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and
Prescription, reviewing health and medical history is the first step in assessing risk for CVD
(American College of Sports Medicine, 2014). If there is a known disease this puts a person at an
immediate high risk for CVD and special precautions should be ... Show more content on

A normal BMI range is 18.5 24.9; less than 18.5 is underweight; 25 29.9 is overweight; and greater
than or equal to 30 is considered obese. These values are important to remember and keeping in mind
those with a low BMI (less than 18.5) greatly increases their risk for fractures in the pelvis and ribs
(Compston et al., 2014) .
After assessing an individual s health status and risk for CVD, as well as gathering anthropometric
data, getting more specific with evaluating specific risks related to osteoporosis would be the next
step. With individuals who have osteoporosis, assessing their risk for falls and fractures are two very
important objectives to developing an exercise prescription. A low BMI may tell you that an
individual is at an increased risk but there is much more that should be considered in this assessment
process. Knowing the history of a client is important and understanding that with any type of previous
fracture will also automatically increase the individual s risk for reoccurring fractures. Also, by simply
looking at someone s standing stance can be an indicator as well, if their stance is narrower there is a
better chance of losing balance and if the stance is wider the person will be more stable. I one year
study observing the fall predictions in 225 female and 45 male elderly individuals with an average age
of 73 years showed that the

Roles of Women in Literature Essay
The Realm of Women in Literature
So it is naturally with the male and the female; the one is superior, the other inferior; the one governs,
the other is governed; and the same rule must necessarily hold good with respect to all mankind. This
quote, spoken by the famous Aristotle, proves to be timeless. The words express knowledge
concerning gender that proves to be centuries ahead of its time. Aristotle however, may not have even
realized the amount of truth expressed in these few, simple words. Men are commonly thought of as
the dominant of the two sexes, but as we have seen through many of the literary works studied, this is
most certainly not the case. In dealing with books such as Macbeth written by ... Show more content

Lady Macbeth s burning ambition to be queen drives her to the point of insanity. She stops at nothing
to gain power and uses Macbeth as the enforcer for her plans. This power is clearly illustrated as her
husband follows her command to kill the king of Scotland, she constantly taunts Macbeth bringing
him even further under her control. She is quite the opposite of how we generally assume feminine
characters to act, and even begs the gods to remove her femininity at one point, ...Come, you spirits
that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here...Come to my woman s breasts, and take my milk for gall,
you murd ring ministers... (Shakespeare 12). As Lady Macbeth expresses her desire to become
unsexed, we see the link that clearly exists between masculinity and murder. She believes that since
she is a woman she cannot be capable of committing such evil deeds, and her reference to her breasts
which is generally linked to the idea of nurture, is called upon in reference to her desire to do quite the
opposite. Lady Macbeth presents a very strong character throughout the play, and through her actions
a very clear picture of a manipulative wife is painted. Though Macbeth is the one to carry out many of
the deviant plans, Lady Macbeth s role is clearly portrayed as the evil mastermind behind the murders.
Another memorable female character is undoubtedly Brigid O Shaughnessy as her role as a
scandalous damsel in

Background or Introduction
Hospital acquired infections are a big problem today, but the use of disinfectants by the medical staff
can help to avoid or limit such exposures to pathogens. The authors main purpose of this research
article was to educate and teach the importance of hand hygiene and test the reason why certain
virucidal hand rubs result in poor compliance due to the poor tolerability of the products. The overall
goal with the study would to show the reason certain hand rubs are not being used and how to improve
their formula to increase compliance. The article written by the author was very well written with a
thorough abstract. The study was very easy to follow and read, due to the well thought out structure of
the article. The authors introduction starts out by stating the approximate amount of hospital acquired
infections in the European Union and why hand sanitizers play an important role to avoid such
infections. The introductions statement showed the importance of the topic. Although some of the
results were complicated and confusing, the discussion laid out the results in layman

Fascism American Style Summary
Fallacy Analysis of New York Times Article Titled: Fascism, American Style , by Paul Krugman Have
you ever thought to look for fallacies in news articles? You may be surprised at how many that you
can find. Fallacies are incorrect forms of thinking or false or mistaken ideas (dictionary.com, 2017),
and there many forms of fallacies that can be found in an author s writing. This analysis will explain
fallacies found in an article from the New York Times, entitled Fascism, American Style by Paul
Krugman, explain the author s argument, conclusion, and how the author justifies his argument. In
Fascism American Style , Krugman writes about the pardon of Sheriff Joe Arpaio by President Donald
Trump. Krugman claims that Arpaio engaged in blatant racial discrimination by targeting Latinos, and
that President trump unjustly pardoned Arpaio for political, racial, and personal reasons. In Krugman s
argument, he claims that Arpaio was guilty of many racially motivated crimes and actions that were

A formal fallacy is a flaw in structure or form that is typically a matter of invalidity, where A is then B,
and B therefore A, affirming the consequence, or A is then B (Miller, 2017). In Krugman s argument,
he describes what he says that Arpaio did was racial discrimination and described Arpaio as a white
supremisist. In fact Arpaio was convicted of criminal contempt because he violated a court order to
stop detaining suspected undocumented immigrants. Krugman claims that because of that conviction,
that means that Arpaio was racially discriminating against Latinos, and that it also means that he is a
white supremisist. He shows the formal fallacy in that he refers to Arpaio s conviction as being for
racial discrimination, and then writes that would mean that Arpaio is a white supremisist, and that
Arpaio should be convicted for racial

The Elements Of Lean Production
THE ELEMENTS OF LEAN PRODUCTION
In this part, the authors write about the steps of developing lean production by pointing out the
assembly plants, the differences between lean and Ford s point of view, production procedures, the
supply chain, the scheme of selling automobiles, and what lean needs to be perfect.
Running the Factory. This chapter is written according to an investigation at IMVP World Assembly
Plant. It is true that the car assembly workshops require a significantly large space with massive
storage areas and railway systems. Besides, thousands of labors will work in a big and chaotic
building with many noisy machines; consequently, this is such a significant problem for all automobile
companies. The writers use the case of the IMVP World Assembly Plant to emphasize the three factors
that persuaded them that assembly was the most essential part in the automobile manufacturing
process. The first thing is that assembly is involved in most of the work in car industry. The next
reason is all of the cars and light trucks today are manufactured in the same technique so that the
assembly factories in the world almost do the similar work. Lastly, Toyota, in order of spreading the
lean production, had built lots of assembly factory in both North America and Europe. Furthermore, a
typical example of mass production at General Motor workshop in Massachusetts is used in order to
illustrate the need of lean production in the Midwest of America. Subsequently, the

Reality Shows And The Reality Of Reality Television,...
Nowadays, there is a wide selection of reality shows, which audiences can pick and watch. The reason
why there are so many different types of reality shows is due to the expansion of the broadcasting
industry and the need to ingratiate the taste of the public. Although most people will agree the term
reality shows is used to identify shows that have arisen since the 21st century, the appearance of
reality television shows actually emerged earlier than everyone thought. For example, Allen Funt s
Candid Camera, which was the first reality show in the United States, arose in 1948 wherein real
people respond to funny pranks or unusual situations for the first time ever under hidden cameras
(Beck 6). Apart from the entertainment reality shows, non fictional entertainment shows such as
documentaries about ordinary people, quiz and game shows also appeared during the 1990s (Beck 4).
Therefore, the aim for people to watch reality shows at that time is entertainment and education. Yet,
as time progresses, distinct subgenres of reality shows such as the makeover shows, celebrity reality
shows as well as dating shows developed in the 21st century and the realness of reality shows has
become controversial. The authenticity of reality shows has become debatable not only because of
these people are oftentimes getting paid to be filmed on camera, but also because exaggerations of
manliness, beauty, and wealth are often portrayed in these programs, thus causing audiences to
consider them

White House Construction
In order for Alexander Hamilton to get his assumption bill passed, he, James Madison, and Thomas
Jefferson made a deal known as the Compromise of 1790 which gave Hamilton the votes he needed to
pass his bill and Jefferson and Madison obtained the nation s capitol for the South and this is where
the White House would later be built. Before construction of the White House, though, the President
lived in the President s House in Philadelphia which was built in 1767 and served originally as home
to the Penn family, who founded Pennsylvania, and it was probably the largest home in all of
Philadelphia. This is where Washington spent his presidency and also where Adams spent the first 18
months of his presidency before moving to the White House. The architect who designed the White
House was Pierre Charles L Enfant in 1791 while designing the District of Columbia. He envisioned a
large mansion for the President which was five times larger than the building that was actually built. ...

The Dichotomy Of Wei-Tung s The Wedding Banquet
The Wedding Banquet mightily explores the dichotomy between Wei Tung s parent s traditional Asian

regarding his sexual orientation. Just as Wei Tung believed that he has lived a life that is entirely
pleasing, he received a phone call with mounting urgency by his parents to marry a Chinese girl and

It is widely seen as a pillar of Chinese family structure. It is defined as a virtue of respect and
obedience for one s parents and elders. In the traditional Chinese culture, bearing children is not only
for the sake of the couple. Presenting a grandchild to one s parents is believed to be a vital family duty
that every child should be able to accomplish. While Wei Tung was certainly respectful of his parents
and was constantly looking after their health and well being while they were in New York, he was
undeniably disinclined to sacrifice his relationship with Simon in order to satisfy his parents craving
for a grandchild. As his parents traditional views locked horn with Wei Tung s reluctance to cave in,
something got to give and an accidental pregnancy by Wei Wei turned the tide into the parents favor,
although this was ultimately the key to Wei Tung reconciling the whole conflicts. At the end of the

Comparing The Benedictine Abbey Church Of St. Michael And...
The two works I would like the compare are the Benedictine abbey church of St Michael, as well as
La Sainte Chapelle. The abbey church of St Michael is an early Romanesque style building and is
located in Hildensheim, Germany. The church was constructed between 1001 and 1031 during the
Ottoman period in the early middle ages. St. Michaels was commissioned by and built under the
direction of Bishop Bernward.
La Sainte Chapelle is located in Paris, France and was founded by King Louis IX. The construction
began in 1246 and was finished in 1248. This Gothis style cathedral was designed by Thomas De
Cormont, an architect also worked on Amiens Cathedral.
I decided to research St. Michael s Church as well as Sainte Chapelle because both churches are very
different compared to the other, yet both are beautiful works of architecture that depict the artistic
advancements for their time periods. St. Michael s building represents the Romanesque artistic style of
the Holy Roman Empire during the early middle ages. In contrast, La Sainte Chapelle exemplifies the
qualities and extravagance of the Gothic artistic era. The double choirs, towers, cross vaulted crypt
and painted ceiling are all examples of the historic decorative features of the early Romanesque ...

would be standardizing the units of measurement, currency, and the width of roads which Qin Shi

command. Another change is the Han dynasty s usage of education. Han rulers permit all boys to

Those who have held the title of freeholder for a will be understanding of the riggers that comes with
extending a lease. However, the processes involved can be daunting to those new to the field and its

extension have never been more complicated than they are right now, meaning that negotiating a new
deal with your leaseholder can be tougher than you expect. The following guide looks at the basics

You should also ask for a deposit (usually 10% of the lease cost) for security reasons, which should be
paid to you by the leaseholder within two weeks of their request of extension.
How to negotiate a better price?
The negotiation period is the most crucial part of the lease extension process and you are within your
right to turn down or counter offer any price proposed to you. You have up to two months after
receiving offer to send back a counter offer in order to try and get a price that is better suited to you.
After a counter offer has been sent it will signal the opening of the negotiations between a freeholder s
party (yourself and your solicitor) and a leaseholders party (he or she and their solicitor). If both
parties cannot come to a conclusion then a Valuation Tribunal will be needed. The tribunal will
consider all offers sent and will decide upon what they consider to be a fair price. Other issues related
to the lease can be raised during the tribunal however this will delay the outcome.
Should you seek professional advice?
After a receiving a leaseholders request for extension a freeholder will need to evaluate their own
legal situation. This usually entails speaking with a number of legal firms to see which of them is best
served for your current situation. Procedures and processes surrounding lease extensions can be

Analysis Of Ashes By Susan Beth Pfeffer
In the short story called, Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer, the protagonist is dealing with the complicated
relationship between her divorced parents. Ashleigh, the main character, is questioned by her dad if
she can borrow her mom s money for his own problems. Ashes, short for Ashleigh, like the
compliments that she keeps receiving from her dad. Ashes complex relationship with her parents
makes her choose between her mom or her dad. One lesson this story suggests is that no matter how
much you love someone, you have to let them handle things on their own.
In the beginning of the story, the readers can understand that is Ashes talking about her parents. Her
mom is a practical person and always ready for anything, extra batteries for flashlights during a
blackout or extra coins for laundry and her dad on the other hand, is an easygoing, carefree and
willingness to help. In the story it says, ... All I can give you is dreams, Ashes. But one good dream is
worth a thousand flashlight batteries. This provides an explanation of how her dad can only give her
dreams and nothing else. He called her a name that made her feel special, something her mom did not
do, and her mom did not promise things she could not fulfill.
There is a part in the beginning of the story where Ashes, says When I was little, Dad used to promise
me the stars for a necklace, but like most of his promises, that one never quite happened. This quote
explains that he speaks more and is actionless. He has promised her things and accomplished nothing.
If he had bought her a necklace with fake stars, it would make Ashes feel like her at least cared for her.
He did not have to hype her up with hopes and then destroy them by not fulfilling it.
In the text, Ashes is constantly getting compliments that she does not believe. Her dad calls her a ..
one in a million girl. A name Ashes does not believe she lives up to. Ashes knew that was not true but

Messias Performance Art Analysis
How does Nando Messias utilise gender in his performance art, incorporating drag and queerness to
expose his stimuli and being a homosexual?
In this essay, I will be focusing on the performance artist Nando Messias and his artwork. Messias is
an abject artist who concentrates on performance art, theatre and dance. (Nando Messias, Undated)
His performances combine beautiful images with a fierce critique of gender, visibility and violence.
(Nando Messias, Undated). Gender, drag culture and queerness plays a significant part in Messias
performance art and as an artist, he utilises this to create an impact for the spectator and to represent
life events and themes appearing in society. As an artist, he portrays the female body in a male body
creating a non binary gender. Such historical perspectives shared a theoretical assumption that woman
could be understood along a gendered binary (male/female, man/woman, masculine/feminine)
(McCann, 2016, 227) Messias dresses in drag and uses theatrical and conventional female identifying
elements to highlight the female body, highlighting the sissiness that he creates in his pieces for his
character. The term sissy boy in McInnes s view is working the tensions of gender recognition and
destabiliz[ing] the formation of ordered masculinity and femininity . (Davies, 2013, 124) Messias
utilises both masculinity and femininity in his works due to his drag identity but exploits his feminine
identity further. His work relates clearly

Comparison Of Prometheus Bound By Aeschylus And Oedipus King
It is important to be afraid. This is a message the two greek plays Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus
and Oedipus Rex by Sophocles send to the citizens of Ancient Greece. The emotions of the gods in
both plays are unchangeable, regardless of how involved they are in the plot. This steeliness causes
fear of the gods and allows them to successfully lead. When displaying their power, the gods are able
to keep greek citizens in the hold of their leadership. They have trapped the people so they are unable
to survive without their guidance, but have also created fear and respect. If they don t fear the gods
and respect power the people s lives will descend into chaos. However, if they do have fear they are
unable to lead by themselves and become independent. The fear and respect the gods invoke in people
is the key to their leadership, and without it there can be no civility. In the play Prometheus Bound, the
gods are directly involved as characters and are portrayed as extremely stubborn. Prometheus, a titan
and god of foresight, is being punished for aiding the humans who Zeus would like to replace with a
new master race. As a relatively new leader of the gods, Zeus has the power to punish Prometheus in
anyway he wants even though Prometheus is a god himself. Zeus decides to bind Prometheus to a
rock, hence the name Prometheus Bound. There are many instances where Zeus is proven to be
stubborn and cold shouldered towards everyone, regardless of their standing. When talking to

Jap A Economic Power
Japan, to this day, is a major economic power that has major influence on the rest of the world. It is a
nuclear state, and has a GDP of almost 5 trillion USD. Japan wasn t just like this and has gone through
a tremendous period of growth after World War II in 1945. Since then, its economy has grown through
its technological and manufacturing side. When the company was defeated in 1945, it was in an
economic ruin. Everything that came before was in shambles, but little did the country know there was
huge room for growth. (Ohno, 2006)
After Japan was defeated in 1945, Japan was under US occupation. During this time a recovery
strategy was put into place to work with the already in motion political and economic system. The
Japanese entered a period of rapid growth between the years 1950 1970. This growth completely
changed the economy and made Japan one of the best capitalistic economies of its time. Japan was a
major industrialized nation with many new companies coming into power. This would of not been
possible without Subsidies, fukkin loans and US aid. (Ohno, 2006)The Japanese benifeted from the
war because of its close alliance with America and the fact of letting American troops station in Japan.
War was actually an important factor of economic growth in Japan. Due to the fact of many factories
and companies being wiped during the war, investments were made to bring better equipment into the
factory so that efficiency was highly prioritized. Ohno puts it, New

Analysis Of Farewell My Concubine And The King And...
Throughout many countries around the world, homosexuality has always been subjected as a
controversial matter. The societal attitudes towards the behavior of homosexuality vary substantially
across Asia. Surprisingly, there are two conflicting attitudes toward homosexuality. Some Asian
countries strongly condemn against homosexuality. Whereas, in some Asian countries visibly accept
homosexuality. Judith Butler explained that gender is represented as a stylized repetition of acts or
imitation. She described the categories of sexuality and gender as a form of performativity (Butler
1996, 368). This essay will explore and examine the experience of gender identity via the exploration
of case studies in two distinct socio cultural contexts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homosexuality in ancient China was extensively well recognized and moderately tolerated, although it
was not solely accepted (Wu 2003, 118). Before the thirteenth century, the early ancient Chinese
possess an open minded view towards human sexuality (Wu 2003, 118). There was no form of an
equivalent abstract idea to one s identity as being gay or lesbian (Wu 2003, 118). According to a Hong
Kong sociologist Chou Wah Shan, the adjective homosexual was never a noun in ancient China
(Drescher and Vittorio 2003, 118 119). This is because ancient China s mainstream belief system did
not have views on homosexuality. Homosexuality in traditional China was not reported as an identity
nor a particular gender difference. In fact, it is known as a formation of behavior or act (Dubel, Ireen
and Andre 2010, 173). This structural interpretation is similar to Judith Butler s argument in which
gender identity is a performative of acts, behaviors, and gestures. Moreover, homosexuality was very
popular in the midst of man dynasties among the Chinese emperors. During the history of the West
Han Dynasty, ten out of the eleven Chinese emperors had at least one homosexual lover or had
expressed some form of homosexual proclivities (Wu 2003, 120). In ancient China, those who were
considered homosexual or had any sexual activity with the same sex were not perceived with deviant
personalities. Instead, it was considered as simply sharing the passion (Dubel,

The Texas Horned Lizard Essay
The Texas horned lizard, Phrynosoma cornutum, is a species in the lizard family, Phrynosomatidae,
which has ten genera and a diverse group of over 125 different species (Hammerson 2007; Cossel Jr.
1997). Lizards in this family can be found in Mexico, Panama, most areas of the United States and
parts of Canada (Heying 2003). Phrynosomatids range in a variety of forms, but are most commonly
distinguished by their small size (less than 10 cm long), rough and keeled scales, spikes on their
bodies, and the fusion of the sides of their teeth to the sides of their inner jawbones, known as
pleurodont teeth (Heying 2003). The thirteen species in the horned lizard genus, Phrynosoma, can be
identified more specifically by their flattened bodies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has developed highly efficient mechanisms for collecting water on the ground and moisture in the
air and transporting it across its skin to its mouth (Map 2010). The Texas horned lizard has hinged
scales, which are interconnected to a system of tubular canals located in the thin keratin layer of its
skin (Sherbrooke et al 2007). When water or moisture comes into contact with the its scales, capillary
forces pull water into the lizard s tubular canals, which is then transported to the mouth for
consumption (Sherbrooke et al 2007). The lizard s hinged scales have also adapted a greater efficiency
of absorbing water by increasing their surface area, which allows for more water to be absorbed and
transported at once (Sherbrooke et al 2007). Furthermore, the lizard has adapted a buccal pumping
mechanism in its mouth, which allows it to pump a constant flow of water into its mouth to drink
(Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). It has modified structures around its mouth that, combined with
certain tongue and jaw movements, allows it to lower the water pressure and pull a constant flow of
water through its tubular canals and directly into its mouth (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). The
Texas horned lizard also exhibits behavioral adaptations that have increased its water absorbing
efficiency. To help increase the capture of water from its scales, the lizard lowers its head and body to
the ground and sticks out its legs to increase the surface area of its body in

Pasturella Pestis
Pasturella pestis, also called Black Death or plague was remained undiscovered for 500 years. This
lethal decease began in the mid of 13 century and rapidly surpassed borders of Sicily, where it was
brought with the sick sailors on the traded ship from the Black Sea. The plague extensively passed
through the Central Asia, reached to the most of European countries, and literally extended from India
to Iceland. Ruthlessly eroded half of the population it became a real menace for that time. People of
that time were able to concede that the infection came from the close physical contact with the sick

Background And Background Of Social Work Essay
1. Experience, background and/or relationships that have influenced your selection of social work as
your professional career (family, education, employment, diversity experience, volunteer
involvements, and personal characteristics, etc.). The past few years, I have had the opportunity to be
a part of many various non profit internships and AmeriCorps programs, that have opened my eyes to
underlying issues that we oversee. Most of the time talk about war, the economy, money and solutions
to fix the problems, but rarely do we come up with solutions to help foster youths, youths in poverty,
youths in inner cities and in title one schools. In Arizona, alone about 25.2% children alone live in
poverty with some type of family. When looking at statistics like that or working with my students in
title one schools, foster home and inner city schools, I don t see them as statistics, I just see them as
my students. But the funny thing is, we are very quick to judge. We judge how far they will go in
school and in life; based off location, family and school district. We rarely give these kids a chance in
general. Instead we place them in a box, a box in which they can t get out of, push them down the
prison pipeline, because let s be real, we know that s where they belong based off their actions. We
push them down the pipeline, and make them believe that that s their life path and no one or anyone
will or can change it. About two years ago, I did an internship in Providence, Rhode

Allegory In Fahrenheit 451
Research Paper Rough Draft
Fahrenheit 451 is one of the most celebrated and adored books of the 21st century. Ray Bradbury
creates a futuristic world that is meant to make the reader examine their own world more closely. This
book is an allegory about the dangers of societal censorship and technology. The author uses
symbolism and imagery to enhance the allegory s hidden meaning. This allegory touches on issues so
poignant that they are still as relevant today as they were in their own time. An allegory is a story that
can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning. This narrative strategy is used commonly by authors
today but has been around for centuries. It is a useful technique to persuade the reader to think outside
the box. The reader must see the story itself and also it s hidden intent. In other words, the story is
both figurative and literal silmultaneously. Fahrenheit 451 is a perfect example of this technique.
Literally, montag is a book burning fireman who faces a crisis of faith that will change his life.
Figuratively, montage represents each of us in a society where technology and government have taken
over large aspects of our lives. Ray Bradbury was an American author and screenwriter who has
worked with many genres. He is most well known for Fahrenheit 451. He developed concerns about
the vulnerability of books from a young age. He did not appreciate that some books were not deemed
literary enough for his public library. He was also greatly angered by

Lab Report On Solid Oxide Fuel Cells ( Sofc )
Abstract
In order to decrease the number of cycles of infiltration and maintain a comparable cathode
performance, the viability of using a conductive LSF YSZ composite scaffold with one infiltration
cycle of LSCF was investigated. XRD patterns of LSF YSZ powder presented that at 1400oC and
1300oC calcination, an obvious shift in LSF peak occurred, indicating Zr doping into LSF and
forming a less conductive phase. Different ratios of LSF YSZ scaffolds were tested by impedance
spectroscopy with the results showing that the ohmic resistance decreases as the amount of LSF
increases, and 1350oC scaffold has a much lower ohmic resistance than the 1400oC one. A pure YSZ
cell infiltrated with 35 wt% LSCF was used as reference and by comparing it with a cell composed of
70:30 LSF YSZ scaffold calcined at 1350oC with one cycle of LSCF infiltration, a comparable cell
performance both in ohmic and non ohmic parts was achieved.
Introduction
In solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), the typical cathodes with the best performance are usually
composites of the electrolyte oxide and an electronically conductive and catalytically active oxide
which is usually a perovskite.1,2 For example, in cells made of yttria stablized zirconia (YSZ)
electrolyte, the conventional cathode composite is a mixture of YSZ and Sr doped LaMnO3 (LSM).
1,2 The commonly used YSZ electrolyte oxide in the electrode is to enhance the ionic conductivity,
thus increasing the electrochemically active region in the electrode. 1 4

Synthesis Of Hexane Lab Report
The purpose of this lab is to gain a greater understanding of the reactions between aldehydes and
amines and of their usefulness in synthesis and biology. The lab is divided into 3 steps, the first step is

imine formed is a primary imine, the first two steps of the lab make up reductive amination1. The
formation of the imine is carried out by adding 0.213 grams of ortho vallin, the aldehyde, and .150
grams of para toluidine. The solids were grinded until homogenous, one layer is formed. The crystals
went from brown to orange liquid layer. The bi product of imine formation is water, and OH gets
protonated and come off during the reaction. Recrystallization is done to get rid of water. Hexane is
used as the recrystallization solvent because it is non polar, like the imine. The mass is 0.3365 grams

Sodium borohydride is a reducing agent that reduces double bonds. The solution went from orange
then to a cloudy white precipitate. The bright orange in the first step is because of imine formation.
Lack of colour, after the addition of NaBH4, shows imine is no longer there it has been reduced. That
amine is now formed evident by the white precipitate. Sodium Borohydride is highly reactive, so it
needs a protic solvent like ethanol to help stabilize. This is why ethanol is added before the sodium
borohydride. The formation of imine happens at acidic conditions and ethanol makes sure the solution
does not get to acidic otherwise amine is not formed. Sodium borohydride is waited to be added,
because if added before the imine is formed it reduces the intermediate and not the imine

The World The War Made By President Lincoln

a. Why does Foner say that the Emancipation Proclamation transformed a war of armies into a conflict
of societies (3)? REQUIRED
i. The Emancipation Proclamation issued by President Lincoln declared that all people held as slaves
within the rebel states, are now and forever free. This quote is especially important because it
demonstrates the effects on society after the Proclamation was signed. Because of these effects, the
focus turned from war into the societal problems that this Proclamation brought about. The
Emancipation was a turning point in national policy and in the character of war. Lincoln knew that the
residents of the border states would never support abolition as a war aim, therefore he did ... Show

Because Johnson was military governor over Tennessee, he could use Johnson on the ballot to gain the

b. What does Foner mean when he says that there was a broader question suggested by the end of
slavery: Should the freedmen be viewed as ready to take their place as citizens and participants in the
competitive marketplace, or did their unique historical experience oblige the federal government to
take special action in their behalf? (31) How did creation of the Freedmen s Bureau suggest one
answer to this question? REQUIRED
i. The creation of the Freedmen s Bureau suggests a great deal about the South during the
Reconstruction era of the United States. The Bureau was created to help emancipated slaves and
refugees have some kind of access to land. Along with access to land, the Bureau itself was
empowered to distributes clothing, food, and fuel to those who have become free men. In my opinion,
I believe the creation of the Freedmen s Bureau answered the question of citizenship in the sense that
freedmen should be considered citizens right off the bat. Back then, owning property was a huge part
of citizenship. By providing help with access to land, freedmen had the chance to become an equal
citizen.

  • 4. Men-Women and Japanese-American Intercultural... Men Women and Japanese American Intercultural Communication Analysis of the Mitsubishi Case Introduction It was my first day in high school. Standing alone in the middle of the play ground looking for anyone I know or can talk to, my eyes was searching all over the place. A pretty blond girl standing alone was a scene that, for sure, attracted my attention then. The moment my eyes saw her, my mind started thinking of ways to talk to her. After some time wasted thinking, I saw a girl I know approaching the blond. Not willing to waste such opportunity, I marched forward toward them. We had a nice chat through which I got to know the blond girl. She turned out to be a very nice and friendly French girl who just arrived to Egypt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In April 1996, the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) brought a suit seeking damages of as much as $300 thousands per women on behalf of 300 female plant employees. The suit came after 15 month investigations of several sexual harassments complaints at MMMA. Men vs. Women The idea of different subcultures for males and females, although they live in the same country, taught the same values, and eat the same food, is not new. Although men and women live under the same conditions, they are expected to behave and respond differently. Thus as Maltz puts it: The different social needs of men and women have led them to sexually differentiated communication cultures, with each sex learning a different set of skills for manipulating words (Maltz, p.200). Maltz explains this by saying that each one of us learns his communication culture through the period of, approximately, age 5 to 15, when boys and girls interact socially primarily with members of their own sex . Not only boys and girls learn to respond differently, but they learn, self consciously, to differentiate, with exaggeration, their behavior from the other sex (Maltz, p.203). If we talk in terms of Hofstede four dimensions of cultural differences, then American men culture could be described a culture that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rodolfo offers a garret apartment with three other men: Marcello, painter; Colline, a logician; and Schaunard, an artist. Marcello likewise is included in a turbulent issue with his female sweetheart, Musetta. • 6. Analysis Of Deborah Brandt s Sponsors Of Literacy Essay Introduction: In Deborah Brandt s essay Sponsors of Literacy, Brandt describes the process of how people become literate, the effect of their experiences, and influential people on their learning. The term that Brandt uses frequently to describe those who have a profound influence on a child s learning is literacy sponsor. She defines literacy sponsors as, Agents, local or distant, concrete, or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy and gain advantage by it in some way, (Wardle 46). Essentially, Brandt is saying that every literate person has had the support of a person or idea that inspires their desire to read and write. The concept of sponsorship can be applied to fields outside of reading and writing too. There are sponsors of science, sponsors of art, and sponsors of medicine. Similarly, these sponsor help students learn to understand the principles of their individual fields. This paper focuses on the sponsorship of first year and second year University of Minnesota Medical School students from the Nu Sigma Nu fraternity. Data was collected through interviews with four students from this fraternity. The guiding question for this research paper was, Can Brandt s definition of literacy sponsor be applied to other fields of learning, such as the medical field. If it is found that the definition for sponsorship can be applied to the medical field, then sponsorship can be applied to other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Most Important Part Of Prescribing An Exercise Program Exercise Assessment The most important part of prescribing an exercise program is the proper assessment of the client to ensure they are physically, mentally, and healthy enough to engage in a certain type of program. With any female client 55 years of age or older, risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) should always be assessed. This will help determine how to properly proceed with the development of an exercise program. According to the ACSM s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, reviewing health and medical history is the first step in assessing risk for CVD (American College of Sports Medicine, 2014). If there is a known disease this puts a person at an immediate high risk for CVD and special precautions should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A normal BMI range is 18.5 24.9; less than 18.5 is underweight; 25 29.9 is overweight; and greater than or equal to 30 is considered obese. These values are important to remember and keeping in mind those with a low BMI (less than 18.5) greatly increases their risk for fractures in the pelvis and ribs (Compston et al., 2014) . After assessing an individual s health status and risk for CVD, as well as gathering anthropometric data, getting more specific with evaluating specific risks related to osteoporosis would be the next step. With individuals who have osteoporosis, assessing their risk for falls and fractures are two very important objectives to developing an exercise prescription. A low BMI may tell you that an individual is at an increased risk but there is much more that should be considered in this assessment process. Knowing the history of a client is important and understanding that with any type of previous fracture will also automatically increase the individual s risk for reoccurring fractures. Also, by simply looking at someone s standing stance can be an indicator as well, if their stance is narrower there is a better chance of losing balance and if the stance is wider the person will be more stable. • 8. Roles of Women in Literature Essay The Realm of Women in Literature So it is naturally with the male and the female; the one is superior, the other inferior; the one governs, the other is governed; and the same rule must necessarily hold good with respect to all mankind. This quote, spoken by the famous Aristotle, proves to be timeless. The words express knowledge concerning gender that proves to be centuries ahead of its time. Aristotle however, may not have even realized the amount of truth expressed in these few, simple words. Men are commonly thought of as the dominant of the two sexes, but as we have seen through many of the literary works studied, this is most certainly not the case. In dealing with books such as Macbeth written by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lady Macbeth s burning ambition to be queen drives her to the point of insanity. She stops at nothing to gain power and uses Macbeth as the enforcer for her plans. This power is clearly illustrated as her husband follows her command to kill the king of Scotland, she constantly taunts Macbeth bringing him even further under her control. She is quite the opposite of how we generally assume feminine characters to act, and even begs the gods to remove her femininity at one point, ...Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here...Come to my woman s breasts, and take my milk for gall, you murd ring ministers... (Shakespeare 12). As Lady Macbeth expresses her desire to become unsexed, we see the link that clearly exists between masculinity and murder. She believes that since she is a woman she cannot be capable of committing such evil deeds, and her reference to her breasts which is generally linked to the idea of nurture, is called upon in reference to her desire to do quite the opposite. Lady Macbeth presents a very strong character throughout the play, and through her actions a very clear picture of a manipulative wife is painted. Though Macbeth is the one to carry out many of the deviant plans, Lady Macbeth s role is clearly portrayed as the evil mastermind behind the murders. Another memorable female character is undoubtedly Brigid O Shaughnessy as her role as a scandalous damsel in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact Arpaio was convicted of criminal contempt because he violated a court order to stop detaining suspected undocumented immigrants. Krugman claims that because of that conviction, that means that Arpaio was racially discriminating against Latinos, and that it also means that he is a white supremisist. The Elements Of Lean Production THE ELEMENTS OF LEAN PRODUCTION In this part, the authors write about the steps of developing lean production by pointing out the assembly plants, the differences between lean and Ford s point of view, production procedures, the supply chain, the scheme of selling automobiles, and what lean needs to be perfect. Running the Factory. This chapter is written according to an investigation at IMVP World Assembly Plant. It is true that the car assembly workshops require a significantly large space with massive storage areas and railway systems. Besides, thousands of labors will work in a big and chaotic building with many noisy machines; consequently, this is such a significant problem for all automobile companies. The writers use the case of the IMVP World Assembly Plant to emphasize the three factors that persuaded them that assembly was the most essential part in the automobile manufacturing process. The first thing is that assembly is involved in most of the work in car industry. The next reason is all of the cars and light trucks today are manufactured in the same technique so that the assembly factories in the world almost do the similar work. Lastly, Toyota, in order of spreading the lean production, had built lots of assembly factory in both North America and Europe. • 12. Reality Shows And The Reality Of Reality Television,... Nowadays, there is a wide selection of reality shows, which audiences can pick and watch. The reason why there are so many different types of reality shows is due to the expansion of the broadcasting industry and the need to ingratiate the taste of the public. Although most people will agree the term reality shows is used to identify shows that have arisen since the 21st century, the appearance of reality television shows actually emerged earlier than everyone thought. For example, Allen Funt s Candid Camera, which was the first reality show in the United States, arose in 1948 wherein real people respond to funny pranks or unusual situations for the first time ever under hidden cameras (Beck 6). Apart from the entertainment reality shows, non fictional entertainment shows such as documentaries about ordinary people, quiz and game shows also appeared during the 1990s (Beck 4). Therefore, the aim for people to watch reality shows at that time is entertainment and education. Yet, as time progresses, distinct subgenres of reality shows such as the makeover shows, celebrity reality shows as well as dating shows developed in the 21st century and the realness of reality shows has become controversial. The authenticity of reality shows has become debatable not only because of these people are oftentimes getting paid to be filmed on camera, but also because exaggerations of manliness, beauty, and wealth are often portrayed in these programs, thus causing audiences to consider them ... The abbey church of St Michael is an early Romanesque style building and is located in Hildensheim, Germany. The church was constructed between 1001 and 1031 during the Ottoman period in the early middle ages. St. Michaels was commissioned by and built under the direction of Bishop Bernward. La Sainte Chapelle is located in Paris, France and was founded by King Louis IX. The construction began in 1246 and was finished in 1248. This Gothis style cathedral was designed by Thomas De Cormont, an architect also worked on Amiens Cathedral. I decided to research St. Michael s Church as well as Sainte Chapelle because both churches are very different compared to the other, yet both are beautiful works of architecture that depict the artistic advancements for their time periods. St. Michael s building represents the Romanesque artistic style of the Holy Roman Empire during the early middle ages. Ashes complex relationship with her parents makes her choose between her mom or her dad. One lesson this story suggests is that no matter how much you love someone, you have to let them handle things on their own. In the beginning of the story, the readers can understand that is Ashes talking about her parents. Her mom is a practical person and always ready for anything, extra batteries for flashlights during a blackout or extra coins for laundry and her dad on the other hand, is an easygoing, carefree and willingness to help. In the story it says, ... All I can give you is dreams, Ashes. But one good dream is worth a thousand flashlight batteries. This provides an explanation of how her dad can only give her dreams and nothing else. He called her a name that made her feel special, something her mom did not do, and her mom did not promise things she could not fulfill. There is a part in the beginning of the story where Ashes, says When I was little, Dad used to promise me the stars for a necklace, but like most of his promises, that one never quite happened. This quote explains that he speaks more and is actionless. He has promised her things and accomplished nothing. Gender, drag culture and queerness plays a significant part in Messias performance art and as an artist, he utilises this to create an impact for the spectator and to represent life events and themes appearing in society. • 22. Comparison Of Prometheus Bound By Aeschylus And Oedipus King It is important to be afraid. This is a message the two greek plays Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus and Oedipus Rex by Sophocles send to the citizens of Ancient Greece. The emotions of the gods in both plays are unchangeable, regardless of how involved they are in the plot. This steeliness causes fear of the gods and allows them to successfully lead. When displaying their power, the gods are able to keep greek citizens in the hold of their leadership. They have trapped the people so they are unable to survive without their guidance, but have also created fear and respect. If they don t fear the gods and respect power the people s lives will descend into chaos. However, if they do have fear they are unable to lead by themselves and become independent. The fear and respect the gods invoke in people is the key to their leadership, and without it there can be no civility. In the play Prometheus Bound, the gods are directly involved as characters and are portrayed as extremely stubborn. Prometheus, a titan and god of foresight, is being punished for aiding the humans who Zeus would like to replace with a new master race. As a relatively new leader of the gods, Zeus has the power to punish Prometheus in anyway he wants even though Prometheus is a god himself. Judith Butler explained that gender is represented as a stylized repetition of acts or imitation. She described the categories of sexuality and gender as a form of performativity (Butler 1996, 368). Homosexuality in ancient China was extensively well recognized and moderately tolerated, although it was not solely accepted (Wu 2003, 118). Before the thirteenth century, the early ancient Chinese possess an open minded view towards human sexuality (Wu 2003, 118). There was no form of an equivalent abstract idea to one s identity as being gay or lesbian (Wu 2003, 118). According to a Hong Kong sociologist Chou Wah Shan, the adjective homosexual was never a noun in ancient China (Drescher and Vittorio 2003, 118 119). This is because ancient China s mainstream belief system did not have views on homosexuality. Homosexuality in traditional China was not reported as an identity nor a particular gender difference. In fact, it is known as a formation of behavior or act (Dubel, Ireen and Andre 2010, 173). This structural interpretation is similar to Judith Butler s argument in which gender identity is a performative of acts, behaviors, and gestures. Moreover, homosexuality was very popular in the midst of man dynasties among the Chinese emperors. During the history of the West Han Dynasty, ten out of the eleven Chinese emperors had at least one homosexual lover or had expressed some form of homosexual proclivities (Wu 2003, 120). When water or moisture comes into contact with the its scales, capillary forces pull water into the lizard s tubular canals, which is then transported to the mouth for consumption (Sherbrooke et al 2007). The lizard s hinged scales have also adapted a greater efficiency of absorbing water by increasing their surface area, which allows for more water to be absorbed and transported at once (Sherbrooke et al 2007). Most of the time talk about war, the economy, money and solutions to fix the problems, but rarely do we come up with solutions to help foster youths, youths in poverty, youths in inner cities and in title one schools. In Arizona, alone about 25.2% children alone live in poverty with some type of family. When looking at statistics like that or working with my students in title one schools, foster home and inner city schools, I don t see them as statistics, I just see them as my students. But the funny thing is, we are very quick to judge. We judge how far they will go in school and in life; based off location, family and school district. We rarely give these kids a chance in general. Instead we place them in a box, a box in which they can t get out of, push them down the prison pipeline, because let s be real, we know that s where they belong based off their actions. We push them down the pipeline, and make them believe that that s their life path and no one or anyone will or can change it. About two years ago, I did an internship in Providence, Rhode ... • 30. Allegory In Fahrenheit 451 Research Paper Rough Draft Fahrenheit 451 is one of the most celebrated and adored books of the 21st century. Ray Bradbury creates a futuristic world that is meant to make the reader examine their own world more closely. This book is an allegory about the dangers of societal censorship and technology. The author uses symbolism and imagery to enhance the allegory s hidden meaning. This allegory touches on issues so poignant that they are still as relevant today as they were in their own time. An allegory is a story that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning. This narrative strategy is used commonly by authors today but has been around for centuries. It is a useful technique to persuade the reader to think outside the box. The reader must see the story itself and also it s hidden intent. In other words, the story is both figurative and literal silmultaneously. Fahrenheit 451 is a perfect example of this technique. Literally, montag is a book burning fireman who faces a crisis of faith that will change his life. Figuratively, montage represents each of us in a society where technology and government have taken over large aspects of our lives. Ray Bradbury was an American author and screenwriter who has worked with many genres. He is most well known for Fahrenheit 451. He developed concerns about the vulnerability of books from a young age. He did not appreciate that some books were not deemed literary enough for his public library. He was also greatly angered by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Lab Report On Solid Oxide Fuel Cells ( Sofc ) Abstract In order to decrease the number of cycles of infiltration and maintain a comparable cathode performance, the viability of using a conductive LSF YSZ composite scaffold with one infiltration cycle of LSCF was investigated. XRD patterns of LSF YSZ powder presented that at 1400oC and 1300oC calcination, an obvious shift in LSF peak occurred, indicating Zr doping into LSF and forming a less conductive phase. Different ratios of LSF YSZ scaffolds were tested by impedance spectroscopy with the results showing that the ohmic resistance decreases as the amount of LSF increases, and 1350oC scaffold has a much lower ohmic resistance than the 1400oC one. A pure YSZ cell infiltrated with 35 wt% LSCF was used as reference and by comparing it with a cell composed of 70:30 LSF YSZ scaffold calcined at 1350oC with one cycle of LSCF infiltration, a comparable cell performance both in ohmic and non ohmic parts was achieved. Introduction In solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), the typical cathodes with the best performance are usually composites of the electrolyte oxide and an electronically conductive and catalytically active oxide which is usually a perovskite.1,2 For example, in cells made of yttria stablized zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte, the conventional cathode composite is a mixture of YSZ and Sr doped LaMnO3 (LSM). 1,2 The commonly used YSZ electrolyte oxide in the electrode is to enhance the ionic conductivity, thus increasing the electrochemically active region in the electrode. 1 4 ... • 34. Synthesis Of Hexane Lab Report The purpose of this lab is to gain a greater understanding of the reactions between aldehydes and amines and of their usefulness in synthesis and biology. The lab is divided into 3 steps, the first step is imine formation, second step is reduction of the imine, and the last step is acylation of the imine. The imine formed is a primary imine, the first two steps of the lab make up reductive amination1. The formation of the imine is carried out by adding 0.213 grams of ortho vallin, the aldehyde, and .150 grams of para toluidine. The solids were grinded until homogenous, one layer is formed. The crystals went from brown to orange liquid layer. The bi product of imine formation is water, and OH gets protonated and come off during the reaction. Recrystallization is done to get rid of water. Hexane is used as the recrystallization solvent because it is non polar, like the imine. The mass is 0.3365 grams and the percent yield is 99.6%. There was some product lost on the stirring rod. The IR showed a peak at 2942.40 indicating a methyl group and a peak at 1593.67 and 1614.90 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sodium borohydride is a reducing agent that reduces double bonds. The solution went from orange then to a cloudy white precipitate. The bright orange in the first step is because of imine formation. Lack of colour, after the addition of NaBH4, shows imine is no longer there it has been reduced. That amine is now formed evident by the white precipitate. Sodium Borohydride is highly reactive, so it needs a protic solvent like ethanol to help stabilize. This is why ethanol is added before the sodium borohydride. The formation of imine happens at acidic conditions and ethanol makes sure the solution does not get to acidic otherwise amine is not formed. Sodium borohydride is waited to be added, because if added before the imine is formed it reduces the intermediate and not the imine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The World The War Made By President Lincoln 1. The World the War Made a. Why does Foner say that the Emancipation Proclamation transformed a war of armies into a conflict of societies (3)? REQUIRED i. The Emancipation Proclamation issued by President Lincoln declared that all people held as slaves within the rebel states, are now and forever free. This quote is especially important because it demonstrates the effects on society after the Proclamation was signed. Because of these effects, the focus turned from war into the societal problems that this Proclamation brought about. The Emancipation was a turning point in national policy and in the character of war. Lincoln knew that the residents of the border states would never support abolition as a war aim, therefore he did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because Johnson was military governor over Tennessee, he could use Johnson on the ballot to gain the traction within the occupied southern states. Lincoln and Johnson could work towards a smoother integration of Tennessee back into the Union. b. What does Foner mean when he says that there was a broader question suggested by the end of slavery: Should the freedmen be viewed as ready to take their place as citizens and participants in the competitive marketplace, or did their unique historical experience oblige the federal government to take special action in their behalf? (31) How did creation of the Freedmen s Bureau suggest one answer to this question? REQUIRED i. The creation of the Freedmen s Bureau suggests a great deal about the South during the Reconstruction era of the United States. The Bureau was created to help emancipated slaves and refugees have some kind of access to land. Along with access to land, the Bureau itself was empowered to distributes clothing, food, and fuel to those who have become free men. In my opinion, I believe the creation of the Freedmen s Bureau answered the question of citizenship in the sense that freedmen should be considered citizens right off the bat. Back then, owning property was a huge part of citizenship. By providing help with access to land, freedmen had the chance to become an equal citizen. 3. The Meaning of Freedom a. What did Jonathan C.
