Comparison between The handmaids Tale and 1894 ...
Both the novels 1984 and The Handmaids Tale provide warnings of how each author sees certain
problems in society leading to dystopian states. Dystopian genres exist in both novels, but arise
for different reasons. Resulting from Atwood s concerns about political groups and aspects of
feminism; The Handmaids Tale illustrates how declining birth rates could lead to a state where
women are forced into bearing children. In contrast, 1984 depicts a terror state where poverty is
rife and tyrannical leaders force citizens to live by their rules. Although both novels share such
themes as surveillance, deprivation and loss of identity, they describe two very different dystopian
worlds, often by using identical literary techniques but also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There is no destruction of antonyms, comparatives or superlatives in The Handmaid s Tale, as
Gilead powers are not eradicating aspects of language, merely preventing people from speaking
them, by enforced use of religious discourse. Atwood does, however, use prefixes to describe
certain things, indicating state control. Words such as unwomen and unbaby denote failure. If a
handmaid s child is branded, unbaby , it shows failure to produce healthy offspring. Handmaids
wish to produce healthy children, preventing transportation to the colonies. These prefixes therefore
scare them into conforming, and trying to produce children as the authorities wish.
In both 1984 and The Handmaid s Tale , connotations are used to re define the states powers. Big
Brother and Aunts suggest protective figures which protect society; however connotations have
been re defined, neither figure having the security of the people in mind. These names, however,
result in people believing themselves safe under their rulers, having been manipulated in many
ways to produce this misconception.
We are able to see that language in both the texts maintain the dystopian societies. However as well
as authoritarian manipulation of language, the dystopian genre is created through the authors styles
of writing.
The styles of Both Atwood and Orwell differ, Orwell tending to a blunt style with few metaphors,

Power Relation Within The Household
power relation within the household. According to Kottegoda (2006) majority of the migrant
women practiced their control over earnings by sending part of the earnings to a bank account on
their own name to ensure that no one else can handle it.
The 16% successful return entrepreneurs who were depicted in Handapangoda (2012) survey have
been maintaining their business ventures by investing the cash savings which were initiated during
their stay in Middle East. For most migrants out of this 16%, the income earned through the
business was the only income for the family, thus the contribution served as the de facto
breadwinner role .
Improved role of decision making
Decision making power can be considered as the agency of making choices as far as
empowerment concepts considered (Kabeer, 1999). For the purpose of this study decision making
is categorised as financial decision making and non financial decision making within the house
hold level. Decisions such as house hold resource allocation and spending are financial while
decisions such as child care, domestic matters and social concerns are considered non financial.
Compared to the less influential power of decision making power before migration, 90% of
migrant women reported improved level of decision making power during their stay
(Handapangoda, 2012). This is basically related to the relatively greater financial contribution of
them to the household income. It has opened wider opportunity and agency over house hold

Why Leaders Must Excel at Giving and Receiving Feedback
MBA 510 Managament Skills Portfolio
Ben Elbert
Ohio Dominican University
August 27, 2015
Whether a leader defines success as career progression, sphere of influence, or the continual
improvement of their management skills, there is one singular fact that all leaders must grasp in
order to be effective and impactful: they have to become great providers and receivers of feedback.
To grow in one?s ability to give and receive feedback, one ought to begin with learning to receive
feedback well by recognizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 109) of the feedback they have received. Becoming an effective leader
requires hard work, passion, and the mastery of human relation skills that make the providing
and receiving of feedback easier and more meaningful. The road to receiving feedback well is a
continuous highway whose only mile markers are the progress beyond being beholden to the
three triggers identified in Stone?s and Heen?s article, Difficult Conversations 2.0. Truth triggers
are an emotional response where the recipient chooses to ?focus on what s wrong with the
feedback? (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72). This decision to reject feedback simply because part of
it is incorrect?or perceived to be incorrect?prohibits a person from evaluating the fit of the feedback
and acting on the applicable, useful parts. Overcoming an evocation of a truth trigger requires the
receiver to ?dig under the label? (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72) and seek more concrete and
definitive examples to better understand the feedback. Per Stone and Heen (2014), a relationship
trigger comes about when the recipient focuses on who is delivering the feedback rather than what
is being said. The relationship trigger tends to arise when the receiver believes the giver either does
not have the proper level of insight to give the feedback or they distrust the motives and authority
of the deliverer (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 73).

Asylum And The International Law
Asylum is a haven granted by one country to an individual seeking protection from another
country. The right to asylum is established in the international law by the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights in article 14. Two types of asylum exists, of which political asylum is the one
which is widely recognized and put to practice where an individual flees its country of origin to
take refuge in a foreign country. Its disputed counterpart, diplomatic asylum, is applicable where
the person seeking asylum is outside the territory of the country granting it, mainly within its
diplomatic territory. Diplomatic asylum is applicable only when the individual is wanted for
political crimes. From outset it lead to political friction due to its infringement on the receiving
country s sovereignty. In practice it comes down to a balancing act between the receiving country s
sovereignty and the granting state s diplomatic sanctity. Historically diplomatic asylum developed
into two opposing practises on the international platform, which will be discussed in this section. 2
1Position in Europe and in the western global context Diplomatic asylum stems from legal
development in Europe during the 1400s and 1500s as a product of temporary embassies being
transformed into permanent ones. Since it became unlawful for local authorities to enter the
embassy, it became a occasional shelter for fugitives seeking refuge. Political conflict was prevalent
with its application according to

Sir Tarquin Character Analysis
Sir Tarquin and Malice In the novel Le Morte Darthur: The Winchester Manuscript, the author, Sir
Thomas Malory, presents the reader with many diverse villains, one of whom is Sir Tarquin.
Through Sir Tarquin s remarks and conduct, Malory portrays Sir Tarquin as a malicious villain
who despises one specific character, Sir LancelotDu Lake. This built up anger and revulsion Sir
Tarquin feels towards Sir Lancelot results in Sir Tarquin becoming one of the most dexterous and
malicious knights in all of Christendom. He becomes such by searching out, challenging, and
defeating many knights of the Round Table.
The reader can ask, What is the motive behind Sir Tarquin s quest? Before Sir Lancelot and Sir
Tarquin duel, Malory leaves this question open for the reader to make their own conclusion. As
this episode progresses, the reader finally receives a clue as Sir Lancelot and Sir Tarquin
exchange dialogue for the first time. Sir Lancelot makes it known he is a member of the Round
Table and has come to save his fellow knights in distress. Sir Tarquin responds, And thou be of
the Round Table, I defy thee and all thy fellowship (Mallory 105). Throughout the years, Sir
Tarquin has targeted many knights who are of the fellowship of the Round Table. He has a fueled
hatred towards the King s knights and he willfully rebels and challenges those who are members of
the said company. With these words, Sir Tarquin clearly shows he is an enemy to the
representatives of King Arthur s court. His personal perception towards the knights of the Round
Table is that of distaste and abhorrence and has a further purpose other than sport.
Such hostility begs the question as to what motivates the actions of the infamous Sir Tarquin. Is
he seeking revenge or is there something else at play? The reader receives an answer a few lines
later when Sir Tarquin describes the one man he desperately wants to eradicate. ... His name is
Sir Lancelot Du Lake; for he slew my brother... that was one of the best knights alive. And
therefore him I except of all knights, for may I him once meet, the one shall make an end, I make
my avow. And for Sir Lancelot s sake I have slain a hundred good knights... (Malory 105). Since

Essay on Goal and Targeted Marking in Super Bowl Budweiser Ad
For me among all the Super Bowl Ads, 2014, the most memorable and effective one was the
Budweiser s, Puppy love ad. It was a heartwarming story to see an adorable puppy s determination
to hang out and be friends with his favorite famous Budweiser Clydesdale horse.
This commercial tells us a remarkable story of love/bond between Labrador retriever puppy and a
Clydesdale horse. First there were the majestic beautiful horses on a horse ranch, and then there
was this adorable playful Labrador retriever puppy on a puppy adoption center, who daily
escaped and made his way to the horse ranch to play and be friends with his favorite famous
Budweiser Clydesdale horse. The horse trainer/caretaker religious picks up the puppy and hands

Least effective Super Bowl Ad GoDaddy Bodybuilder
This was my least favorite as well as effective commercial for me from this year s Super Bowl ads.
It starts off with a bunch of body builders running led by Danica Patrick, the race car driver who s
wearing a black and neon green top and shorts muscle suit running towards a spray tan salon. She
knocks on the window of the salon and the ad ends with the punch line, it s go time.
First of all the commercial was too short, I thought it was teaser and it felt like an incomplete ad.
Didn t really understand the ad and had to watch it repeatedly to understand what the advertiser
were trying to say. Basically, the ad ends with owner of the spray salon saying, it s go time, while
spraying a little orange puff of tanning solution. This commercial is targeting smart small business
owners and the goal of this ad is to increase awareness for GoDaddy s web hosting services.
I hosted the Super Bowl party this year and most my friends thought it was the lamest ad they
have seen in years. This ad was the least effective because it wasn t entertaining, I personally don t
like seeing women with bulked muscles (gross) even though it was the famous racecar driver
Danica Patrick, and more importantly it wasn t noteworthy. It was too depressing, even with the
celebrity filled commercial it couldn t do it. I think for the amount ($$) paid, GoDaddy, could

The Scent of Green Papaya is a 1993 seductive drama that was written and directed by Tran Anh

10 year old girl, Mui played by Lu Man San who was hired to be the servant of a wealthy
merchant family and is later taken under the wing of the housekeeper who teaches her how to
perform the necessary daily tasks such as cooking and cleaning which Mui does with grace. As
Mui performs her tasks she learns that the familyis dealing with some hardships and that the family

Soon after a young boy enters, walking to the dinner table asking the father to go for some tea with
his friend.
Within these three minutes I saw how the director and cinematographer used camera movement
to show the audience the family s dynamic through the eyes of Mui. The opening shot beginning
at 11:00 started off in a low angle, medium wide shot. Which then led the camera to follow the
mistress and Mui from the outdoor kitchen into the house. As Mui got to the dinner table the
camera ended up in a wide shot revealing the father and sons seated at the dinner table all taking
place in one continuous long shot, tilting and panning according to the movement of the actors.
As Mui walked off screen the there was a seamless edit, cutting to Khuyen entering the screen
asking for permission to go for some tea with his friends. From there, there were a few quick cuts
getting reaction shots of the two young boys and their father. The next shot began with an
immediate pan left as Mui was walking into the shot, the mistress was also walking into the shot
coming down the stairs. They were coming from two different directions but they both landed in
the frame at the same time. The camera was set in a position where they were able to get both
actors crossing paths and as they reached the same point in the frame the camera panned displaying
the father and kids at the table in a medium wide shot. In

Male vs. Female Offenders
The prison world is predominately male dominated. As the years go by, female incarceration levels
have been rapidly increasing. The prisons in early days didn t have to worry about dealing with
two different types of inmates as there were not that many females incarcerated. While male and
female inmates do have some similarities, they also have some distinct differences. The way they
conduct themselves in prisonare different; as are they way they interact with other inmates. Males
typically are in prison for more violent crimes than women, making the maximum security prisons
mainly male. Throughout this paper, these differences and a few similarities are discussed.

the influence of either at the time of their offense. According to demographic data from 2002, more
than 46% of females were using drugs or alcohol at the time of their offense, and more than 55%
admitted to drinking regularly.
Many females in prisons find surrogate families while they are being incarcerated. It is a personality
trait of many females to band together with others to pull through a rough and emotional time, such
as being in prison. Female inmates tend to have problems that males don t that bond them together
stronger. One such bond is the inmates that are pregnant at the time of their incarceration.
Homosexuality is prevalent in female institutions, largely because a high percentage of women
have been abused and misused by men for most of their lives, and they already have turned to
other females for their emotional needs. 1 in 4 women in prison has been sexually assaulted, most
likely by male staff. Sexual Assault in a women s prison isn t primarily about dominance as it is in
a male prison.
MALE VS. FEMALE INMATES
While there are many similarities between male and female inmates, there are also many
differences. The American prisons have been predominately male and continue to do so.

What Is Equality And Discrimination
What is equality?
Equality is making sure that individuals or groups of individuals are treated equally and fairly. This
includes making sure that no individual is treated less favourably. Individuals should not be treated
differently due to their race, gender, age, religious views, and sexual orientation.
Equality awareness should remove discrimination in all of the areas mentioned above. Bullying,
harassment or victimization is also considered as equality and diversity issues.
What is diversity?
Diversity is the range of different things. Such as race, age, gender, religious views, sexual
orientation, community, and disability.

greed played a major role in the conflict between both groups, based on the information provided

The author Kevin in his article, Peaceable Kingdom Lost: The Paxton Boys and the Destruction

How Neoliberalism Has Changed The World
This essay aims to identify how neoliberalism has changed the way we do business in particular
managerial strategies to maintain competiveness and adapt to changing market conditions. Firstly, I
will briefly explain the term neoliberalism and how it has affected the world. Secondly, I will
explain how neoliberalismhas influenced managers and their strategic reforms. Thirdly, I will
further explain the importance of strategizing and planning in regards to managers in today s
market. Finally, the conclusion will summarise the preceding points of the essay aimed to argue
that neoliberalism has changed the world including the way managers strategize and think in today
s economy.
The term Neoliberalism was introduced around the 1990 s which was perceived to be the future for
a free market economy. Essentially it originated from the idea that an economy would work more
efficiently in the hands of the private sector. At the time there were many anti neoliberalism and
anti globalisation activists protesting governments against free markets fearing foreign threat in
regards to the country s factor endowments (Davies 2014, p. 309).
The concept behind Neoliberalism is that the global market and its resources are shared equally, in
other words becoming a free market economy where government does not intervene, creating more
innovation consequently affecting trade and globalisation (Styhre 2014, p. 270). The reality of the
story today is far from what is was set out to be,

Cezanne, The Large Bathers, 1906, Oil on canvas
Cezanne started by reaching toward Classicism by using architectural forms, the lines and
opening up the central space bring our eye to the center. Khan, 2015 This makes us focus on the
overall picture. While Michelangelo focused on the form and each aspect, Cezanne focused on a
the still and captured the female form in a consistent manner. Using warm and cool colors for the
bodies, one can feel as though he is looking at the past and not nudes but on the form of color and
texture.
Colors
While Cezanne s painting is cold, with hues of muted blues, greens and browns, Matisse and
Picasso use earth tones and exaggerated oranges depicting life and happiness. Color evokes emotion
and feelings. When one looks at the Cezanne painting it is almost cold, as though you are looking

The Negative Effects Of Video Games
Introduction
Most of the research done on video games tends to be done on the possible negative effects
associated with the medium. From aggression and violence to the connection to mood disorders,
video games tend to get a bad reputation. However, there are studies that have been done about the
possible positive effects of games as well. There are definitely fewer positive studies than negative,
but they are out there for those who search them out. The study that was used by Kendall Ashley in
her article How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety, was not one of those studies.
News Article Purpose and Study Fit (250)
The news article by Kendall Ashley, How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety ,
claimed exactly as its title suggests. The article went into how different types of games, such as
MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing games), puzzle games, and games based
on depression supposedly assisted with anxiety and depression. I went into reading this article
favorably, as someone who both enjoys video games and as someone who is diagnosed with
anxiety. However, after comparing what the study said with what the article presented it as, I found
myself disappointed. Ashley either did not understand what the study said or just named dropped
the study to make her article seem more valid. Most of the time when Ashley claims that Studies

†Prohibition’s successes outweighed its failures in the...
The prohibition era was the period in the US when the manufacture, sale and transportation of
liquor were banned. To completely eliminate alcohol from society was always going to be an
impossible task due to the limited amounts of prohibition officers and the easy manner in which
illegal alcohol could be made and old, so in that aspect of its ambition it failed. However it was
able to reduce alcoholism, and as a result of prohibition fewer arrests for drunkenness were
recorded. With those thoughts in mind, it is important to remember that whist some positives came
from Prohibition, the negatives that came from the policy were far greater and more significant, so
therefore it becomes nigh on impossible to call it a success. The... Show more content on

The government and federal enforcement also experienced moderate success in the attempt to
uphold the laws of prohibition, with agents such as Izzy Einstein and Moe Smith making over
4000 arrests and seizing over 15m dollars worth of illegal liquor. With the only access to alcohol
being through gangster organisations and speakeasies, many people turned to soft drinks as a
new social drink. Consequently this lead to a boom in the soft drink industry with companies In
an alternative aspect, there were several reasons as to why the success of Prohibition was limited.
Firstly, there were huge logistical problems to the policy, with America having 18,700 miles of
coastline and land border. This meant that bootlegging became a big issue with 215m dollars worth
of alcohol being transported across the land border between Detroit and Canada, and thus
ultimately the supply of alcohol coming into the country was never restricted and so the American
public still had access to a plentiful supply of alcohol. The fact that before prohibition Washington
DC had 300 bars, but by the mid 1920s it had over 700 speakeasies, substantiates the point that
alcohol supply actually increased during prohibition. The same

Christine Castel Biography
Christine took up writing so she could support her family. Her father, Tommaso Di Benvenuto di
Pizzano, was an astrologer to Charles the Fifth, the king at the time. He was respected greatly by
Charles the Fifth. Christine was married at fifteen to Etienne du Castel. This was arranged, but
they loved each other anyways. Etienne was a scholar, a nobleman, and the Duke of Guyenne. He
was part of the French court, and supported Christine completely on her writing interests. Etienne
and Christine had three children together, including Jean de Castel, who was born in 1384 and
lived for eighty eight years. That is the only known child. One fateful day, Charles the fifth died,
and Christine s father lost his job. Not long after, Tommaso got sick and finally died. Just a few
months later, Christine s husband, Etienne, got the bubonic plague and died. Christine was so

Usually those poems were about Christine s long lost love, Etienne, but that was before she
realized how badly women were being treated. Remember, these were the Middle Ages; women
weren t even able to work back then. Women also (usually) had no form of education. Women were
even considered their husband s property. Christine started to criticize women s lack of rights in
her works. She believed strongly in gender equality and that women were strong, heroic, and brave.
Other than gender equality and love poems, she also wrote biographies and autobiographies. This
includes a biography about Charles the Fifth, which was very flattering and pleasing, and her
autobiography, which talks about her thoughts on women. This was written to cease the continued

Thomas Moore s Utopia appears to be a perfect society where everyone is treated fairly and

implications about and restraints placed on women. The attitude toward women in Utopia may
have been seen as acceptable in 1516, but in contrast with today s standards this approach in the
book towards women is misogynistic and oppressive. In Utopia, values are critical to the
preservation of peace in society. Yet, these values do not include fair and proper treatment of every
individual. Utopia appears to be a land of no persecution but women still suffer and are harassed
through the societal standards pressed upon them as a condition of their sex. While the land of
Utopia at first appears to give more rights to women than many countries did at the time, it becomes
evident that the treatment of women and their rights are not representative of the supposed
egalitarian principles applauded in the novel.
There are multiple cases in Utopia where conflict is evident between the treatment of men and the
treatment of women. There are many moments in Utopia when it appears that the women are equal
to men, only to turn around and suggest they are not. One of these examples is when Raphael
Hythloday is discussing the terms and conditions of marriage, or rather, conditions prior to even the
engagement. He says that Whether she is a widow or a virgin, the women is shown naked to the

The War Of A National Highway System
The term New Frontier was used by liberal, Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kennedy
in his acceptance speech. Kennedy entered office with the goal to get rid of Americas poverty,
and to raise America s eyes to the stars through the space program. During the New Frontier,
unemployment benefits were expanded, aid was provided to cities to improve housing and
transportation, funds were allocated to continue the construction of a national highway system
started under Eisenhower, a water pollution control act was passed to protect the country s rivers
and streams, and an agricultural act to raise farmers incomes was made law. The bay of pigs
invasion was a failed military invasion of Cuba. Brigade 2506, the group that attempted to
invade cuba, was made up of Cubans who fled the country after Castro s takeover, was trained
and funded by the CIA. The CIA Castro gone because he was a communist, and at the time
everyone was afraid of communists. This attack lasted three days before Brigade 2506 was
defeated. The Cuban missile crisis, also known as the October crisis, was a confrontation between
the U.S and Soviet Union and was the closest the Cold War came to being an actual war. In
response to the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, Castro reached out to the Soviet Union and asked for
nuclear missiles to scare away any more countries thinking about attacking Cuba. After a long
period of tense negotiations, an agreement was reached between President John F.

Shouldice Hospital
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
CASE 1 В– Shouldice Hospital
Introduction Shouldice Hospital, set up in 1945 by Dr. Earl Shouldice, is located near Toronto. It
follows the business model of focus on a single standardised service for a narrow target of
consumers, rather than to provide customised solution (as in a general clinic or hospital). It focuses
on providing quick, convenient, and reliable cure for external types of abdominal hernias. The
Hospital uses its own technique, called the Shouldice Method. It is famous for a relatively short
post operative recovery period.

$200 $400
14.Recovery time for patients is 1 4 weeks, as compared to 2 8 weeks in other hospitals
Process Flow Diagram
Process Analysis using Cost and Capacity
A: Cost Analysis
Budget for the Hospital: $ 2.8 million
Budget for the clinic: $2 million
Therefore, Total Budget = Budget for the Hospital+ Budget for the clinic = $2.8 million + $2
million = $ 4.8 million
Number of operations per year = 6850 (considering the same as for the year, 1982)
Therefore average cost per operation = $4.8 million/6850 = $701
Total charge to the patient = Hospital stay + Surgical fee + Assistant surgeonfee + Anesthetic fee =
111*4 + 450 + 60 +75 = $1029
Net profit per patient = $(1029 701) = $328
B: Capacity Analysis
The critical resources in this case are:
В•Number of operation theatres
В•Number of hospital beds
В•Number of staff (including surgeons, assistant surgeons and nurses)
These resources are tabulated as under:
Resource nameAvailabilityMax. capacity per week
Operation Theatre5185
Number of beds117152
Number of surgeons12357
For details of calculation of the maximum capacity, please refer to points 1, 2 and 3 below.

INTRODUCTION
The ability to respond quickly to the ever changing marketplace is paramount to the success of
most businesses. The convenience store industry is a highly competitive one and 7 Eleven s
ability to become a leader market leader appears to be based on the company s ability to quickly
respond to the rapidly changing tastes and needs of the market.
7 Eleven has not always enjoyed success, especially in the 1980s when things got really bad for
the company. Helped, however, arrived in the form of Ito Yokado (the company s Japanese

their product assortments to meet the demands of their customers, reducing the risks involved in

The 7 exchange data system for category management, which suppliers access online, provides
insights that can lead to new products or product packaging. The information on this system can
even alert suppliers to a potential or missed opportunity.
7 Eleven s has opened its doors to small suppliers through its Web Vendor terminal. Suppliers who

Agency Representation In Congress
When looking how effectively a country represents its citizens, it is important to take into account
the manner in which they are represented. The two main types of representation are descriptive and
agency representation. Descriptive representation is the concept that those who represent the
American people should not only have the same political interest, but should also mirror the
demographic makeup of the people. Agency representation, which is what the United States
congress looks like, is when the representation does not reflect the demographic, but they speak for
their constituents interests in congress. The constituents are able to hold the representatives

The president does not interact with the public regularly the way congress does. However,

The Effects Of Dominance Aggression On Pet Dogs
Research Methods
Assessment One Critical Report
The authors of this particular research paper are Joaquin Perez Guisado and Andres Munoz
Serrano. The title of the article is Factors Linked to Dominance Aggression in Dogs and has been
taken from the Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances, Volume 8, Issue 2. The page numbers
for the article are 336 342 and the publish date is 2009. The main aim of this study was to
determine factors that might be linked to dominance aggression in pet dogs. The research carried
out was qualitative and involves the use of surveys and interviews, and explores certain factors
relating to a topic. Qualitative methods, such as interviews, are believed to provide a deeper
understanding of social phenomena than would be obtained from purely quantitative methods (Gill
et al., 2008). There was significant association between certain dog behaviour patterns and higher
levels of dominance aggression. As a whole, the research method and survey appears to have been
considerably well done with only a few adjustments to be made if it were to be repeated or further
investigated.
The methodology for this article has both good and bad points to consider. For example the sample
size is very large and a total of 711 dogs were involved, with an equal amount (give or take a few)
of male and female dogs taking part. Only owners with dogs older than 12 months were
interviewed and there was a mixture of both pure bred and mixed breed dogs. A total of 47

Their sights were firmly set on building a dynasty of three locations and monopolizing pizza
delivery in a small concentrated area. From inception, the Domino s logo contained three dots.
These dots, still present on the current logo, represent Tom Monaghan s original vision of opening

In the early years of business, pizza was the only item on the menu at Domino s. Side items were
never considered to be a part of the menu. Remaining sensitive to competitors and allowing
competition to affect product pricing is a classic trait of a market follower (Kotler amp; Anderson,

Domino s Pizza has chosen a market follower strategy. Product, one of the four Ps of the marketing

changes to the market followers. The first change to the product offering at Domino s happened

The Ethical Dilemmas Of Three Others Opinions For Smartphones

(Rebecca Balebako, Abigail Marsh, Jialiu Lin, Jason I. H, Lor, 2014) they are mentioned in a

dilemma for smartphone users who are mostly concerned about their privacy. The result of the

privacy and security training. When questioned about privacy policies implemented in their
apps, one developer said, I haven t even read our privacy policy. I mean, it s just legal stuff that s

I totally agree with this statement, as unless an app developer has been properly educated about
privacy guidelines, we cannot totally expect them to follow the code of conducts related to it.
Even that is other authors concern and mine, still developers have the responsibility to develop
their professional knowledge according to the BCS code of conduct 2c and should only publish
apps that give importance to user s privacy. According to IEEE (Florian Pfarr, Thomas Buckel,
Axel Winkelmann, 2014), a specific problem with cloud computing is that countries like China
and Iran, which ignores human rights and deny the remedy, might have access to cloud servers
with the intent of surveillance of prosecution. In addition, cloud service providers in the USA are
legally bound by the patriot act to provide all customer data to the government of the US. The issue
raised by these authors affects smartphone users even without their knowledge as most of the
current smartphones are regularly, keeping backups in the cloud and apps like Google photos

not relevant to their countries, above mentioned governments violate The Data Protection Act 1998

In New Jersey Tesla went about improving Edison s line of dynamos while working in Edison s
lab. It was here that his variation of opinion with Edison over direct current versus alternating
current began. This disagreement soon became the war of the currents as Edison fought a losing
battle to protect his investment in direct current equipment and facilities. Tesla began pointing
out the worthlessness of Edison s direct current electrical powerhouses that have been building
up and down the Atlantic seaboard. The secret, he felt, lay in the use of alternating current,
because to him all energies were cyclic. Edison s lamps were weak and worthless when supplied
by direct current. This system had a severe disadvantage in that it could not be transported more
than two miles due to its incapability to step up to high voltage levels necessary for long distance
transmission. Because of this a direct current power station was required every two miles. Direct
current flows continuously in one direction; alternating current changes direction fifty or sixty
times per second and can be stepped up to vary high voltage levels, minimizing power loss across
great distances. Nikola Tesladeveloped polyphase alternating current system of generators, motors
and transformers. He held forty basic U.S. patents on the system, which George Westinghouse
bought, wanting to supply America with the Tesla system. Edison did not want to lose his direct

Rules And Order In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
Rules and order support a society by preventing it from becoming corrupted. Having organization
and structure is very important in order to maintain a successful and civilized community. During
the Cold War, a school for boys are sent out on a plane to avoid the atomic bombs. While being
transported to safety, the plane crashes and the boys become trapped on a mysterious island. After
the crash, the boys gather everyone together and elect a chief to lead the group. The two candidates
running for chief are Ralph, a rational and kind hearted boy, and Jack, a determined, arrogant,
and aggressive figure. One of the other boys known as Piggy helps Ralph to give him logical
advice to help the group of boys get rescued. It is their job to form a society... Show more content

After the plane crashes, Ralph and Piggy stumble upon a conch shell and use it to call an
assembly to gather all the boys up. When blown through, the conch creates a roaring blare that
allows everyone to hear it. This conch becomes the most important motif since it keeps the boys
organized. This conch is also used to create order among the boys to signify who has the right to
talk, that way everyone has a chance to be heard without being interrupted. This is apparent
when Ralph says, And another thing. We can t have everybody talking at once. We ll have to
have Hands up like at school ... And he won t be interrupted. Except by me. Jack was on his feet.
We ll have rules! he cried excitedly. Lots of rules! (Golding 33). This rule associated with the
conch helps the boys to maintain a civilized structure by demanding the boys to give respect.
Every time the conch is blown, the boys gather and anytime anyone wants to speak during these
assemblies, they hold the shell. By instilling these 2 guidelines, all the boys have the
opportunity to accept power and respect. To keep control in the group, the boys decide to run
their society similar to an autocracy. All the boys agree electing a chief to lead the group will
be the most effective way to stay organized and civilized until they are rescued. This is evident
when Jack says, We ve got to decide about being rescued ... seems we ought to have a chief to
decide things (22). By appointing a leader to guide the boys it will keep the chaos contained and
encourage the boys to remain cordial towards each other and avoid barbaric behavior. Ralph and
Jack both want the title of chief, however, when all the boys vote, Ralph is the clear cut winner.
Electing a leader and using the conch to summon the group together are very important if the boys
want to protect their civilized life

The rapid changes taking place in emerging markets, combined with the fact that existing fixed line
networks are often underdeveloped, offer persuasive reasons to believe that systems will be
developed that can facilitate wealth creation and genuinely transform people s lives in the poorest
parts of the region. Ultimately, the evolution of mobile payments systems has the potential to allow
global organisations to access a far wider market, including people in previously hard to access
locations. The caveat is, of course, that issues of trust, security and affordability also need to be
overcome. This report explores the recent developments in the context of these significant
challenges. Mobile payments are necessitating new forms of interaction between telecoms
companies, financial institutions, software and content providers. As in any supply chain, it is
important to understand the processes and security capabilities of other parties in the relationship.
It is even more important when potentially sensitive or personal information is flowing between
these parties. Ultimately, the adoption of mobile payments will therefore depend on, and be driven
by, consumer confidence. In this respect, all of the participants within each respective business
model needs to share some responsibility for its successful adoption. seung Hwan (sean) choi

an analysis of the qualifications of an Epic Hero
An epic hero is someone who goes down in history as being brave, courageous, and obviously
heroic. They don t have to be asked to save the day, and often times, they aren t even saving their
own people. There are several epic poems that come to mind when thinking about European
culture and where it came from. These stories are held as sacred to many different people, and
will always be studied whenever the topic of government or culture comes up. In these poems, or
stories, there is always a herothat the story is centered around, often times even named for. These
heroes include Achilles, Odysseus, Aeneas, Socrates, Gilgamesh, Beowulf, and Arthur; there are
certain things about these men that make them heroes.
Achilles is the ideal hero, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
439) Unlike Achilles, Odysseus is a king. He rules his country with a firm hand, but cares for his
subjects. During the Trojan War, he is one of king Agamemnon s highest ranking officers, and is a
man who is constantly sought after for advice. One thing that makes him a hero unlike others is
that he is willing to ask for help and is humble enough to take advice. Odysseus is one of the first
Greek mythic heroes renowned for his brain as well as his muscle. (Education Foundation) This
makes him all the more powerful as a ruler.
Aeneas is one who few think of when naming epic heroes, but his story is much like that of
Odysseus. While the figures of Homers work might have been praised by the Greek tangibility
Publius Vergilius Maro, a statesman and poet during the Pax Romana under Augustus would come
to harshly criticize the Greek epic ideal and redefined what it meant to be a man with his hero
Aeneas. (Krause) He goes through struggle after struggle, and is constantly tested. His bravery is
what defines him as a hero. He can seemingly endure anything. He must take a journey to the
underworld, similar to that of Odysseus.
When one thinks of an epic hero, they thing strong, brave, and handsome; Socrates is not the man
who comes to mind. When it really comes down to it though, Socrates is more of a hero than the
others previously mentioned. He

Balance Of Power In Gogol s The Nose
Most novels written today have happy endings, which leads to an all too convenient portrayal of
power. In the real world, stories don t always have happy endings. Stories can end in any number
of ways, but while examining two short stories from The Collected Tales of Nikolai Gogol, one
can see something very different. These stories end with a unique yet intriguing balance of
power on both sides. In Gogol s The Nose, a man wakes up one morning to find that his nose is
missing. Throughout the story, he is in a state of disbelief as he watches his own nose rise up to a
higher rank than him in society before it is caught and returned to him. He fails in his attempts to
get the nose sewn back on, but he wakes up one morning and the nose is right back on his face....

Another story I examined from the same author, The Overcoat, is about a plain man that has an
old overcoat. He saves up for a long time so he can buy a new one, and the night after he gets it,
he gets drunk at a party and the overcoat is stolen from him on the way home. He then becomes a
ghost that haunts and subsequently steals an overcoat from an important man that he feels is
responsible. The Overcoat tells the story of a man that worked hard and used his overcoat as a
symbol of power, but it gets taken from him and he is left with nothing at all. Both of these
stories show both the rise and fall of power and how even after all of the events have taken place,
the characters still end up in relatively the same as they were before in regard to power. In these
two short stories by Nikolai Gogol, I will attempt to explain the similarities and differences between
the trends of power and eventual equilibrium of power they both

Commedia Dell Arte and Influences on Modern Theatre
Commedia dell Arte is an interesting form of acting in the history of theatre. During the 16th, 17th
and 18th century, in the midst of the renaissance, there was a very delightful source of
entertainment that people where privy too. This archaic form of acting was based around
improvising and the use of masks. I am comparing this to modern day comedysince I have seen
direct examples on television, which use this method of acting, in modern day shows. The fact that
some of these performers were verging on genius is without dispute. Contemporary performers have
looked into the past finding resourceful techniques to further illustrate comedy to their peers.
The first question is why use Commedia Dell Arte as a training tool for modern ... Show more

Fusing together these elements, a mask maker produces a shape that is no longer purely human.
Hence, if a human wears this mask, there are discrepancies between mask and body, which
counteract each other s expressiveness. It becomes necessary, therefore, for the human to adjust
his or her body shape to fit the mask. The design and style that comes from the three elements of
mask design allow the actor at any point to move into animal movement, devilishly bad behavior
or simply carry out the order of the plot in role.
This juncture is an ideal place to start feeding specific instances of the characters body language.
Those who are capable of exploring attitudes, energy levels, and their own inner resources can be
guided through that process. Those who need more encouragement, and have not yet learned to
trust the passion for discovery or their own emotions can be given more hard concrete
information to work with. The middle path must be looked for, and in this there is the whole
tradition of the commedia dell arte to help. A character survives on stage because it is alive. One
of the problems any performer or actor faces is selecting his or her material. In traditional
Commedia Dell Arte, this is key to success, and is needed on a moment to moment basis.
However, what becomes clear after a while is that commedia dell arte works best as an ensemble
art form. Which is true in theatre

The Inevitability Of Reality, By Edvard Munch
The Inevitability of Reality
Oscar Wilde once said, Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world there are only
individuals. This quote explains that society is corrupt. People will only surround you when
you are in the spotlight, but will depart when you hit rock bottom. The painting The Dance of
Life, by Edvard Munch, portrays a life from beginning to completion. It is visible that the same
woman is cloned, from a happier stage of life, to a dark, gloomy end. The Swimmer, by John
Cheever, relates to this idea of the different experiences throughout the course of one s life. The
story is about Neddy, who decides to go home by swimming through the Lucinda River. As a
reader, we can see that the story takes place over a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, Neddy is at the Westerhazy s pool, where he decides that he is going to go on his journey
and names the length of pools, The Lucina River . At this point, Neddy is very happy, and
appears very young and healthy. He still has his high reputation and friends that he thinks he can
rely on. Later on, Neddy arrived at Enid Bunker s house to go through her pool. When he
arrived, Ms. Bunker screams, Oh, look who s here! What a marvelous surprise! When Lucinda
said that you couldn t come I thought I d die. (3) This shows us the peak of Neddy s reputation.
Everyone wanted him to be at their party to make it seem as if it was worth coming to, since it
was good enough for Neddy to join. Cheever continues the initial exchange saying, She made her
way to him through the crowd, and when they had finished kissing she led him to the bar, a
progress that was slowed by the fact that he stopped to kiss eight or ten other women and shake
the hands of as many men. (3) This shows that Neddy is viewed on high standards and why Mrs.
Bunker was so happy that he had shown up to her party. Neddy finishes his drink and then leaves
to move on to the next pool.
When Neddy arrives at the Levy s house, no one is home and he cannot seem to remember whether
or not they sold the house. Neddy swims through the pool and helps

Islam As A Religion And Saudis
As a Saudi Muslim, the two social identities I want to talk about are Islam as a religion and Saudis.
Religion is an organized set of beliefs, cultural systems and worldviews relating humanity to an
order of existence. Religion contains various laws and prohibitions that guide people in every day
life. Muslims who share the same religion see themselves having a communicative relationship with
one another. Interpersonal communicationand social relationships are two way processes of
exchanging ideas and sharing concerns in a Muslim environment.

Men often wear Qamis when they want to go to the mosque.
In terms of symbols, Islam prohibits to wear symbols, however, it does not prohibit having
religious symbols at home, such as framed Suras (Verses) from the Quran (Islam s holy book)
hanged against the wall. Most of the practicing Muslims have framed Suras at their home.
Nevertheless, Muslims do not hang pictures of their prophet (Muhammad) on their walls because
it is seen as prohibited in their religion. In fact, any personification of any prophet is seen as
prohibited. Muslims are good at interior architecture, as it seen as beautiful and glorious. Muslims
are known for the unique and artistic style in interior design, which is influenced by the Gold Age
of Islam when they were in Andalusia. Most of the Muslim interior design is inspired from the
Arabic calligraphy and the Quran.
In terms of sound, Islam has specific codes of behavior on the manner Muslims should speak
and even sound. Though only a few Muslims in Saudi Arabia speak slowly, Islam advocates to
speak slowly and softly, as it is a better and a likable way to communicate. Muslim Imams in
Friday prayers encourage the sender not to scream while transmitting a message so that the
receiver understands the message clearly and reply the same way. However, this aspect is not
applied everywhere.
The Muslim attitude is an abstract value in Islam. Muslims are usually compassionate about their
religion and their prophet. Almost every aspect of life

The Concept Of Self-Improvement By Benjamin Franklin
It was during a speech in the House of Commons in late June 1925, when Winston Churchill
declared the famous line, To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often. Almost 200
years previous, founding father and philosopher Benjamin Franklin lived off a similar idea, as he
later recounted in his autobiography. This common idea is called self improvement, and it
involves furthering one s learning, status, or character by his or her own efforts. The concept of
self improvement in hypothetical terms sounds simple and straightforward, but is not so in
practice. For example, realistically, how does one change for the better? Is true change even
possible? Even if so, what is the purpose of doing so? Impossible or attainable, meaningful or
frivolous, the idea behind self improvement is a central theme in our history and Benjamin Franklin
is a prime example of this attitude. The fundamental question that motivates any quest for self
improvement is, why? While summarizing his approach to self improvement, Franklin admits that,
to this little artifice... (Franklin) owed the constant felicity of his life. Simply put, Franklin
accredits his joy in life to the process of chasing his goals of self improvement. It is not the
reaching of perfection that makes this process worthwhile, but the journey made. Another purpose
that English novelist Aldous Huxley identifies is, There is only one corner of the universe you can
be certain of improving, and that s your own self.

  • 2. Comparison between The handmaids Tale and 1894 ... Both the novels 1984 and The Handmaids Tale provide warnings of how each author sees certain problems in society leading to dystopian states. Dystopian genres exist in both novels, but arise for different reasons. Resulting from Atwood s concerns about political groups and aspects of feminism; The Handmaids Tale illustrates how declining birth rates could lead to a state where women are forced into bearing children. In contrast, 1984 depicts a terror state where poverty is rife and tyrannical leaders force citizens to live by their rules. Although both novels share such themes as surveillance, deprivation and loss of identity, they describe two very different dystopian worlds, often by using identical literary techniques but also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no destruction of antonyms, comparatives or superlatives in The Handmaid s Tale, as Gilead powers are not eradicating aspects of language, merely preventing people from speaking them, by enforced use of religious discourse. Atwood does, however, use prefixes to describe certain things, indicating state control. Words such as unwomen and unbaby denote failure. If a handmaid s child is branded, unbaby , it shows failure to produce healthy offspring. Handmaids wish to produce healthy children, preventing transportation to the colonies. These prefixes therefore scare them into conforming, and trying to produce children as the authorities wish. In both 1984 and The Handmaid s Tale , connotations are used to re define the states powers. Big Brother and Aunts suggest protective figures which protect society; however connotations have been re defined, neither figure having the security of the people in mind. These names, however, result in people believing themselves safe under their rulers, having been manipulated in many ways to produce this misconception. We are able to see that language in both the texts maintain the dystopian societies. However as well as authoritarian manipulation of language, the dystopian genre is created through the authors styles of writing. The styles of Both Atwood and Orwell differ, Orwell tending to a blunt style with few metaphors, described as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Power Relation Within The Household power relation within the household. According to Kottegoda (2006) majority of the migrant women practiced their control over earnings by sending part of the earnings to a bank account on their own name to ensure that no one else can handle it. The 16% successful return entrepreneurs who were depicted in Handapangoda (2012) survey have been maintaining their business ventures by investing the cash savings which were initiated during their stay in Middle East. For most migrants out of this 16%, the income earned through the business was the only income for the family, thus the contribution served as the de facto breadwinner role . Improved role of decision making Decision making power can be considered as the agency of making choices as far as empowerment concepts considered (Kabeer, 1999). For the purpose of this study decision making is categorised as financial decision making and non financial decision making within the house hold level. Decisions such as house hold resource allocation and spending are financial while decisions such as child care, domestic matters and social concerns are considered non financial. Compared to the less influential power of decision making power before migration, 90% of migrant women reported improved level of decision making power during their stay (Handapangoda, 2012). This is basically related to the relatively greater financial contribution of them to the household income. It has opened wider opportunity and agency over house hold ... Becoming A Feedback Focused Leader Becoming a Feedback Focused Leader Becoming a Feedback Focused Leader4 Running head: Becoming a Feedback Focused Leader Becoming a Feedback Focused Leader: Why Leaders Must Excel at Giving and Receiving Feedback MBA 510 Managament Skills Portfolio Ben Elbert Ohio Dominican University August 27, 2015 Whether a leader defines success as career progression, sphere of influence, or the continual improvement of their management skills, there is one singular fact that all leaders must grasp in order to be effective and impactful: they have to become great providers and receivers of feedback. (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 109) of the feedback they have received. Becoming an effective leader requires hard work, passion, and the mastery of human relation skills that make the providing and receiving of feedback easier and more meaningful. The road to receiving feedback well is a continuous highway whose only mile markers are the progress beyond being beholden to the three triggers identified in Stone?s and Heen?s article, Difficult Conversations 2.0. Truth triggers are an emotional response where the recipient chooses to ?focus on what s wrong with the feedback? (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72). This decision to reject feedback simply because part of it is incorrect?or perceived to be incorrect?prohibits a person from evaluating the fit of the feedback and acting on the applicable, useful parts. Overcoming an evocation of a truth trigger requires the receiver to ?dig under the label? (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72) and seek more concrete and definitive examples to better understand the feedback. Per Stone and Heen (2014), a relationship trigger comes about when the recipient focuses on who is delivering the feedback rather than what is being said. The relationship trigger tends to arise when the receiver believes the giver either does not have the proper level of insight to give the feedback or they distrust the motives and authority of the deliverer (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 73). ... • 5. Asylum And The International Law Asylum is a haven granted by one country to an individual seeking protection from another country. The right to asylum is established in the international law by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in article 14. Two types of asylum exists, of which political asylum is the one which is widely recognized and put to practice where an individual flees its country of origin to take refuge in a foreign country. Its disputed counterpart, diplomatic asylum, is applicable where the person seeking asylum is outside the territory of the country granting it, mainly within its diplomatic territory. Diplomatic asylum is applicable only when the individual is wanted for political crimes. From outset it lead to political friction due to its infringement on the receiving country s sovereignty. In practice it comes down to a balancing act between the receiving country s sovereignty and the granting state s diplomatic sanctity. Historically diplomatic asylum developed into two opposing practises on the international platform, which will be discussed in this section. 2 1Position in Europe and in the western global context Diplomatic asylum stems from legal development in Europe during the 1400s and 1500s as a product of temporary embassies being transformed into permanent ones. Since it became unlawful for local authorities to enter the embassy, it became a occasional shelter for fugitives seeking refuge. Political conflict was prevalent with its application according to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Sir Tarquin Character Analysis Sir Tarquin and Malice In the novel Le Morte Darthur: The Winchester Manuscript, the author, Sir Thomas Malory, presents the reader with many diverse villains, one of whom is Sir Tarquin. Through Sir Tarquin s remarks and conduct, Malory portrays Sir Tarquin as a malicious villain who despises one specific character, Sir LancelotDu Lake. This built up anger and revulsion Sir Tarquin feels towards Sir Lancelot results in Sir Tarquin becoming one of the most dexterous and malicious knights in all of Christendom. He becomes such by searching out, challenging, and defeating many knights of the Round Table. The reader can ask, What is the motive behind Sir Tarquin s quest? Before Sir Lancelot and Sir Tarquin duel, Malory leaves this question open for the reader to make their own conclusion. As this episode progresses, the reader finally receives a clue as Sir Lancelot and Sir Tarquin exchange dialogue for the first time. Sir Lancelot makes it known he is a member of the Round Table and has come to save his fellow knights in distress. Sir Tarquin responds, And thou be of the Round Table, I defy thee and all thy fellowship (Mallory 105). Throughout the years, Sir Tarquin has targeted many knights who are of the fellowship of the Round Table. He has a fueled hatred towards the King s knights and he willfully rebels and challenges those who are members of the said company. With these words, Sir Tarquin clearly shows he is an enemy to the representatives of King Arthur s court. His personal perception towards the knights of the Round Table is that of distaste and abhorrence and has a further purpose other than sport. Such hostility begs the question as to what motivates the actions of the infamous Sir Tarquin. Is he seeking revenge or is there something else at play? The reader receives an answer a few lines later when Sir Tarquin describes the one man he desperately wants to eradicate. ... His name is Sir Lancelot Du Lake; for he slew my brother... that was one of the best knights alive. And therefore him I except of all knights, for may I him once meet, the one shall make an end, I make my avow. And for Sir Lancelot s sake I have slain a hundred good knights... (Malory 105). • 7. Essay on Goal and Targeted Marking in Super Bowl Budweiser Ad For me among all the Super Bowl Ads, 2014, the most memorable and effective one was the Budweiser s, Puppy love ad. It was a heartwarming story to see an adorable puppy s determination to hang out and be friends with his favorite famous Budweiser Clydesdale horse. This commercial tells us a remarkable story of love/bond between Labrador retriever puppy and a Clydesdale horse. First there were the majestic beautiful horses on a horse ranch, and then there was this adorable playful Labrador retriever puppy on a puppy adoption center, who daily escaped and made his way to the horse ranch to play and be friends with his favorite famous Budweiser Clydesdale horse. Least effective Super Bowl Ad GoDaddy Bodybuilder This was my least favorite as well as effective commercial for me from this year s Super Bowl ads. It starts off with a bunch of body builders running led by Danica Patrick, the race car driver who s wearing a black and neon green top and shorts muscle suit running towards a spray tan salon. She knocks on the window of the salon and the ad ends with the punch line, it s go time. First of all the commercial was too short, I thought it was teaser and it felt like an incomplete ad. Didn t really understand the ad and had to watch it repeatedly to understand what the advertiser were trying to say. Basically, the ad ends with owner of the spray salon saying, it s go time, while spraying a little orange puff of tanning solution. This commercial is targeting smart small business owners and the goal of this ad is to increase awareness for GoDaddy s web hosting services. I hosted the Super Bowl party this year and most my friends thought it was the lamest ad they have seen in years. This ad was the least effective because it wasn t entertaining, I personally don t like seeing women with bulked muscles (gross) even though it was the famous racecar driver Danica Patrick, and more importantly it wasn t noteworthy. It was too depressing, even with the celebrity filled commercial it couldn t do it. I think for the amount ($$) paid, GoDaddy, could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As Mui got to the dinner table the camera ended up in a wide shot revealing the father and sons seated at the dinner table all taking place in one continuous long shot, tilting and panning according to the movement of the actors. I will explain why greed played a major role in the conflict between both groups, based on the information provided by two authors with differing opinions. The first author, believed that conflict was inevitable. The author Kevin in his article, Peaceable Kingdom Lost: The Paxton Boys and the Destruction of Williams Penn s Holy Experiment , describes the conflicts between a group of racists men known as the Paxton Boys, and the beliefs of a Peaceable Kingdom lead by William Penn. In his essay, Kevin speaks about how William Penn respected the Indians; however, the Paxton Boys did not. • 13. How Neoliberalism Has Changed The World This essay aims to identify how neoliberalism has changed the way we do business in particular managerial strategies to maintain competiveness and adapt to changing market conditions. Firstly, I will briefly explain the term neoliberalism and how it has affected the world. Secondly, I will explain how neoliberalismhas influenced managers and their strategic reforms. Thirdly, I will further explain the importance of strategizing and planning in regards to managers in today s market. Finally, the conclusion will summarise the preceding points of the essay aimed to argue that neoliberalism has changed the world including the way managers strategize and think in today s economy. The term Neoliberalism was introduced around the 1990 s which was perceived to be the future for a free market economy. Essentially it originated from the idea that an economy would work more efficiently in the hands of the private sector. At the time there were many anti neoliberalism and anti globalisation activists protesting governments against free markets fearing foreign threat in regards to the country s factor endowments (Davies 2014, p. 309). The concept behind Neoliberalism is that the global market and its resources are shared equally, in other words becoming a free market economy where government does not intervene, creating more innovation consequently affecting trade and globalisation (Styhre 2014, p. 270). The reality of the story today is far from what is was set out to be, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are definitely fewer positive studies than negative, but they are out there for those who search them out. The study that was used by Kendall Ashley in her article How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety, was not one of those studies. News Article Purpose and Study Fit (250) The news article by Kendall Ashley, How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety , claimed exactly as its title suggests. The article went into how different types of games, such as MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing games), puzzle games, and games based on depression supposedly assisted with anxiety and depression. I went into reading this article favorably, as someone who both enjoys video games and as someone who is diagnosed with anxiety. However, after comparing what the study said with what the article presented it as, I found myself disappointed. Ashley either did not understand what the study said or just named dropped the study to make her article seem more valid. To completely eliminate alcohol from society was always going to be an impossible task due to the limited amounts of prohibition officers and the easy manner in which illegal alcohol could be made and old, so in that aspect of its ambition it failed. However it was able to reduce alcoholism, and as a result of prohibition fewer arrests for drunkenness were recorded. With those thoughts in mind, it is important to remember that whist some positives came from Prohibition, the negatives that came from the policy were far greater and more significant, so therefore it becomes nigh on impossible to call it a success. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government and federal enforcement also experienced moderate success in the attempt to uphold the laws of prohibition, with agents such as Izzy Einstein and Moe Smith making over 4000 arrests and seizing over 15m dollars worth of illegal liquor. With the only access to alcohol being through gangster organisations and speakeasies, many people turned to soft drinks as a new social drink. Consequently this lead to a boom in the soft drink industry with companies In an alternative aspect, there were several reasons as to why the success of Prohibition was limited. Firstly, there were huge logistical problems to the policy, with America having 18,700 miles of coastline and land border. This meant that bootlegging became a big issue with 215m dollars worth of alcohol being transported across the land border between Detroit and Canada, and thus ultimately the supply of alcohol coming into the country was never restricted and so the American public still had access to a plentiful supply of alcohol. The fact that before prohibition Washington DC had 300 bars, but by the mid 1920s it had over 700 speakeasies, substantiates the point that alcohol supply actually increased during prohibition. • 21. Utopia By Thomas Moore s Utopia Thomas Moore s Utopia appears to be a perfect society where everyone is treated fairly and equally. However, Utopia is not as egalitarian as it appears. This can be determined through the implications about and restraints placed on women. The attitude toward women in Utopia may have been seen as acceptable in 1516, but in contrast with today s standards this approach in the book towards women is misogynistic and oppressive. In Utopia, values are critical to the preservation of peace in society. Yet, these values do not include fair and proper treatment of every individual. Utopia appears to be a land of no persecution but women still suffer and are harassed through the societal standards pressed upon them as a condition of their sex. While the land of Utopia at first appears to give more rights to women than many countries did at the time, it becomes evident that the treatment of women and their rights are not representative of the supposed egalitarian principles applauded in the novel. There are multiple cases in Utopia where conflict is evident between the treatment of men and the treatment of women. There are many moments in Utopia when it appears that the women are equal to men, only to turn around and suggest they are not. One of these examples is when Raphael Hythloday is discussing the terms and conditions of marriage, or rather, conditions prior to even the engagement. He says that Whether she is a widow or a virgin, the women is shown naked to the suitor by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The title of the article is Factors Linked to Dominance Aggression in Dogs and has been taken from the Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances, Volume 8, Issue 2. The page numbers for the article are 336 342 and the publish date is 2009. The main aim of this study was to determine factors that might be linked to dominance aggression in pet dogs. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In New Jersey Tesla went about improving Edison s line of dynamos while working in Edison s lab. It was here that his variation of opinion with Edison over direct current versus alternating current began. This disagreement soon became the war of the currents as Edison fought a losing battle to protect his investment in direct current equipment and facilities. Tesla began pointing out the worthlessness of Edison s direct current electrical powerhouses that have been building up and down the Atlantic seaboard. The secret, he felt, lay in the use of alternating current, because to him all energies were cyclic. Edison s lamps were weak and worthless when supplied by direct current. This system had a severe disadvantage in that it could not be transported more than two miles due to its incapability to step up to high voltage levels necessary for long distance transmission. Because of this a direct current power station was required every two miles. Direct current flows continuously in one direction; alternating current changes direction fifty or sixty times per second and can be stepped up to vary high voltage levels, minimizing power loss across great distances. Nikola Tesladeveloped polyphase alternating current system of generators, motors and transformers. He held forty basic U.S. patents on the system, which George Westinghouse bought, wanting to supply America with the Tesla system. Edison did not want to lose his direct current ... Having organization and structure is very important in order to maintain a successful and civilized community. During the Cold War, a school for boys are sent out on a plane to avoid the atomic bombs. While being transported to safety, the plane crashes and the boys become trapped on a mysterious island. After the crash, the boys gather everyone together and elect a chief to lead the group. The two candidates running for chief are Ralph, a rational and kind hearted boy, and Jack, a determined, arrogant, and aggressive figure. One of the other boys known as Piggy helps Ralph to give him logical advice to help the group of boys get rescued. It is their job to form a society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the plane crashes, Ralph and Piggy stumble upon a conch shell and use it to call an assembly to gather all the boys up. When blown through, the conch creates a roaring blare that allows everyone to hear it. This conch becomes the most important motif since it keeps the boys organized. This conch is also used to create order among the boys to signify who has the right to talk, that way everyone has a chance to be heard without being interrupted. This is apparent when Ralph says, And another thing. We can t have everybody talking at once. We ll have to have Hands up like at school ... And he won t be interrupted. Except by me. Jack was on his feet. We ll have rules! he cried excitedly. Lots of rules! (Golding 33). This rule associated with the conch helps the boys to maintain a civilized structure by demanding the boys to give respect. Every time the conch is blown, the boys gather and anytime anyone wants to speak during these assemblies, they hold the shell. By instilling these 2 guidelines, all the boys have the opportunity to accept power and respect. To keep control in the group, the boys decide to run their society similar to an autocracy. All the boys agree electing a chief to lead the group will be the most effective way to stay organized and civilized until they are rescued. This is evident when Jack says, We ve got to decide about being rescued ... seems we ought to have a chief to decide things (22). By appointing a leader to guide the boys it will keep the chaos contained and encourage the boys to remain cordial towards each other and avoid barbaric behavior. Ralph and Jack both want the title of chief, however, when all the boys vote, Ralph is the clear cut winner. The rapid changes taking place in emerging markets, combined with the fact that existing fixed line networks are often underdeveloped, offer persuasive reasons to believe that systems will be developed that can facilitate wealth creation and genuinely transform people s lives in the poorest parts of the region. Ultimately, the evolution of mobile payments systems has the potential to allow global organisations to access a far wider market, including people in previously hard to access locations. The caveat is, of course, that issues of trust, security and affordability also need to be overcome. This report explores the recent developments in the context of these significant challenges. Mobile payments are necessitating new forms of interaction between telecoms companies, financial institutions, software and content providers. As in any supply chain, it is important to understand the processes and security capabilities of other parties in the relationship. It is even more important when potentially sensitive or personal information is flowing between these parties. They don t have to be asked to save the day, and often times, they aren t even saving their own people. There are several epic poems that come to mind when thinking about European culture and where it came from. These stories are held as sacred to many different people, and will always be studied whenever the topic of government or culture comes up. In these poems, or stories, there is always a herothat the story is centered around, often times even named for. These heroes include Achilles, Odysseus, Aeneas, Socrates, Gilgamesh, Beowulf, and Arthur; there are certain things about these men that make them heroes. Achilles is the ideal hero, ... During the Trojan War, he is one of king Agamemnon s highest ranking officers, and is a man who is constantly sought after for advice. One thing that makes him a hero unlike others is that he is willing to ask for help and is humble enough to take advice. Odysseus is one of the first Greek mythic heroes renowned for his brain as well as his muscle. (Education Foundation) This makes him all the more powerful as a ruler. Aeneas is one who few think of when naming epic heroes, but his story is much like that of Odysseus. While the figures of Homers work might have been praised by the Greek tangibility Publius Vergilius Maro, a statesman and poet during the Pax Romana under Augustus would come to harshly criticize the Greek epic ideal and redefined what it meant to be a man with his hero Aeneas. (Krause) He goes through struggle after struggle, and is constantly tested. His bravery is what defines him as a hero. He can seemingly endure anything. He must take a journey to the underworld, similar to that of Odysseus. When one thinks of an epic hero, they thing strong, brave, and handsome; Socrates is not the man who comes to mind. In the real world, stories don t always have happy endings. Stories can end in any number of ways, but while examining two short stories from The Collected Tales of Nikolai Gogol, one can see something very different. These stories end with a unique yet intriguing balance of power on both sides. In Gogol s The Nose, a man wakes up one morning to find that his nose is missing. Throughout the story, he is in a state of disbelief as he watches his own nose rise up to a higher rank than him in society before it is caught and returned to him. He then becomes a ghost that haunts and subsequently steals an overcoat from an important man that he feels is responsible. The Overcoat tells the story of a man that worked hard and used his overcoat as a symbol of power, but it gets taken from him and he is left with nothing at all. Both of these stories show both the rise and fall of power and how even after all of the events have taken place, the characters still end up in relatively the same as they were before in regard to power. During the 16th, 17th and 18th century, in the midst of the renaissance, there was a very delightful source of entertainment that people where privy too. This archaic form of acting was based around improvising and the use of masks. I am comparing this to modern day comedysince I have seen direct examples on television, which use this method of acting, in modern day shows. Contemporary performers have looked into the past finding resourceful techniques to further illustrate comedy to their peers. Fusing together these elements, a mask maker produces a shape that is no longer purely human. Hence, if a human wears this mask, there are discrepancies between mask and body, which counteract each other s expressiveness. It becomes necessary, therefore, for the human to adjust his or her body shape to fit the mask. The design and style that comes from the three elements of mask design allow the actor at any point to move into animal movement, devilishly bad behavior or simply carry out the order of the plot in role. This juncture is an ideal place to start feeding specific instances of the characters body language. Those who are capable of exploring attitudes, energy levels, and their own inner resources can be guided through that process. Those who need more encouragement, and have not yet learned to trust the passion for discovery or their own emotions can be given more hard concrete information to work with. The middle path must be looked for, and in this there is the whole tradition of the commedia dell arte to help. A character survives on stage because it is alive. One of the problems any performer or actor faces is selecting his or her material. In traditional Commedia Dell Arte, this is key to success, and is needed on a moment to moment basis. However, what becomes clear after a while is that commedia dell arte works best as an ensemble art form. Which is true in theatre ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. The Concept Of Self-Improvement By Benjamin Franklin It was during a speech in the House of Commons in late June 1925, when Winston Churchill declared the famous line, To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often. Almost 200 years previous, founding father and philosopher Benjamin Franklin lived off a similar idea, as he later recounted in his autobiography. This common idea is called self improvement, and it involves furthering one s learning, status, or character by his or her own efforts. The concept of self improvement in hypothetical terms sounds simple and straightforward, but is not so in practice. For example, realistically, how does one change for the better? Is true change even possible? Even if so, what is the purpose of doing so? Impossible or attainable, meaningful or frivolous, the idea behind self improvement is a central theme in our history and Benjamin Franklin is a prime example of this attitude. The fundamental question that motivates any quest for self improvement is, why? While summarizing his approach to self improvement, Franklin admits that, to this little artifice... (Franklin) owed the constant felicity of his life. Simply put, Franklin accredits his joy in life to the process of chasing his goals of self improvement. It is not the reaching of perfection that makes this process worthwhile, but the journey made. Another purpose that English novelist Aldous Huxley identifies is, There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that s your own self. ...
