The Decision Making Of Judges Essay
According to Professor J. Peltason, The decision as to who makes the decision affects what decisions
will be made. Peltason s words refer to the inescapable human factor present in judicial process,
specifically in terms of the decision making of judges. Fairness and impartiality are two of the most
important considerations and desires the legal system should aim to achieve. Unfortunately, due to the
human factor, impartiality and fairness are ideal goals that are difficult to realize in the system.
Specific procedures are in place and meant to be practiced in order to ensure justice in the legal
system, and the process varies depending on the type of case. The different types of cases have
differing standards of proof, extensions of due process, and proceedings. On the basis of these
important differences and of specified proceedings, the efforts toward fairness in the civil process can
be evaluated.
On Wednesday, October 26th, after meeting with Judge Norma Lindsey s judicial assistant, I waited
for further instruction from Bailiff Victor Ramon outside of courtroom 5 3 where a civil trial would
take place. He led me to my seat in the courtroom, and I patiently waited for the jury selection to
begin. The jurisdiction of the court was state trial court in the civil circuit division, and around 10:15
AM, the session began with Presiding Judge Norma Lindsey. I remained at the courthouse until the
session concluded at 5:15 PM that evening. The counsels included the

Reflection On Group Processes And Dynamics Essay
A Reflection on Group Processes and Dynamics
Working within a group or team is unavoidable for most people. We are involved in sports teams,
assignment groups, work teams, social groups and a variety of other groups and teams. Each of these
groups share one thing in common, that is each requires us to communicate in some way in order to
reach a shared goal or target. Therefore, it is imperative to know and understand how to work and
communicate effectively with others to maximise outcomes and productivity.
Tuckman proposes that groups develop via five stages; forming, storming, norming, performing and
finally adjourning (Archee, Gurney, Mohan, 2013a). The first stage, known as forming, involves
clarifying the task and purpose of the group, and identifying boundaries of both the task and
interpersonal behaviour (Archee et al., 2013a). For the presentation task we were randomly allocated
into groups. This worried me greatly as I have struggled in the past with group members who do not
contribute equally or see the task as important as other group members. To avoid this problem, the
group collectively determined and agreed upon a number of ground rules. For example, we decided
that all group members were expected to contribute equally to the presentation, all group members
were expected to attend and contribute at all group meetings, and all group members would adhere to
agreed upon deadlines. Having failed to do this in previous group assignments, this clarification stage

The Importance Of Internship Experience At The Hilton Hotel
I am a sophomore student, in the hotel, restaurant management major, at the University of Delaware.
In this summer, I practiced at the Hilton Hotel, served as the banquet server, is my first internship

Prejudice And Racism In Shaun Tan s The Rabbits
These two text convey the connections of the Indigenous people (numbats) and their connection to
land and the settlers (rabbits). Bad Blood by Casey lever is a dual narrative meaning that it is told
from two characters perspectives from 2 points in time. The Rabbits written by John Marsden and
illustrated by Shaun Tan is an allegory picture book which displays a variety of visual and narrative
techniques, hidden messages which illustrate the connection of these two groups of very different
people. The themes how the past impacts on the present and racism can be connected to Australia s
complex history through a variety of texts that explore the minority s view from the past.
Leaver discusses the negative impacts of the past on the present throughout the novel in both periods

effect of this exaggeration is that it helps us readers empathize for Ruby as she is only a half caste

According to civil society organisation Transient Workers Count Too, Ministry of Manpower hands
out booklets to foreign workers upon their arrival in Singapore. These booklets regarding the
employment act are available in different languages, hotline number is also provided for workers to
report abuses. But employers and agents, in many cases, confiscate these leaflets and brochures, thus
such informations are unable to reach them.
Public endorsement of the exploitation of foreign workers seems to be allow for businesses and ports
in Singapore to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year on foreigners because the
economic market have created an industrial and work culture that requires them to accepting
conditions that local workers would not agree to. Thus businesses are allowed to cut corners by
squeezing foreign workers dry.
The restrictive work permit system, which ties foreign workers to a single employer, makes it difficult
for them to negotiate for better working conditions let alone higher wages. Many were afraid to speak
up fearing that they might lose their jobs. Returning to their countries is not what they are looking
forward to as many have taken out loans of up to $9000 just to work in Singapore. These workers
have to work for long hours to support their families and to re pay their debt.
Contracts that are written are usually not made clear to the workers. Employers made the contracts

Disadvantages Faced By Aboriginal People
Introduction:
Smoking rates have halved in Australians over the past 30 years, falling below 16%. Except for in
Indigenous populations, smoking rates have remained at more than twice this level, with even higher
rates reported in remote communities (RACGP, 2013) The inequality that has been faced by
Indigenous people is still at an unacceptable level, and has been identified as a human rights concern
by the United Nations (Dick, 2007). Smoking is a major issue because, it is the most preventable
contributor to the gap in life expectancy between Indigenous and non Indigenous peoples (Ivers,
2011). Smoking contributes to 17% of the life expectancy gap (Australian Government: Department
for Health and Welfare, 2011). The socio economic disadvantage faced by Indigenous people leads to
the addiction of tobacco, which can be caused by many factors including; their position on the social
gradient, education, social exclusion, their employment status and their social support. There is a lack
of developed personal skills on the health risks of tobacco, some Aboriginals don t identify smoking as
a health issue (Korff, 2014), due to the history of Aboriginal people around smoking. As well as first
hand smoke, passive smoking also contributes to poor health, especially for children. Smoking is the
major cause for heart disease, stroke, some cancers, lung diseases and a variety of other conditions
(HealthInfoNet.ecu.edu.au, 2013). If we could reduce tobacco consumption levels

performance supplement that you can take, if you take creatine daily is Creatine Monohydrate.
Creatine Monohydrate is the best selling performance supplement on the market. Want to know why?
It is the best selling performance supplement because all it is, is nothing but pure 100% creatine. A
bottle of this which weighs nothing more than 250 grams will cost $25.00 or more. It is worth every
penny if you take creatine on a daily basis though. Everyone wants to know is creatine safe? Can it
really burn fat and build big muscles quick? No one really knows if creatine is safe. In fact scientists
don t even know the long term affect of using a creatine supplement daily. What we do know is that if
you take creatine and it helps build your muscle mass with working out is that if you all of a sudden
stop working out all of that muscle will be turned in to fat. Pretty much what you are doing when you
take creatine is you are gambling your life for muscle and a bigger meaner you, but if you do that you
are taking your life in to the manufacturers hands. From our prospective we say don t take it, it is not
worth it, but there are some people that will never listen and take it any way and well that is their
problem. Now, does creatine really help burn fat and build big muscles quick? No, no and nobody
knows. Creatine definitely doesn t burn fat, nor do creatine supplements

increment will remain the same, or even lesser. Worst still, whoever is being tagged as in the level of

Required). From here, one will be terminated from job if there is not sign of improvement within half

The next stage is the feedback system. The essential part of the performance feedback process is the

example, a soundtrack that I relate to my life is ¨One thousand miles¨ by Vanessa Carlton. The specific
verse that relates my life to this song is ¨You know I d walk a thousand miles just to see you tonight.

similarities, which are two main kinds of similarity between code fragments [18]. 1) Type 1: Identical
code fragments except for variations in whitespace, layout and comments. 2) Type 2: Syntactically
identical fragments except for variations in identifiers, literals, types, whitespace, layout and
comments. 3) Type 3: Copied fragments with further modifications such as changed, added or
removed statements, in addition to variations in identifiers, literals, types, whitespace, layout and

Employee Writing History
In the early 1940 s, the decrease of the writing skill was beginning to make an appearance along with
some of the first models of computers. Technology rapidly advanced and computers became a
necessity in everyday life. In today s society living without a computer would be difficult; most
employers will give a web address instead of a paper application, any information one could possibly
need is available with a few clicks of the mouse, and many teachers create their lesson plans with
educational videos and interactive programs inbetween the book work. However, writing is still
important; without writing employers would have poor applications, historians would lack written
documentation of history, and teachers would not be able to use a white board to teach a lesson.
Writing in the work force is often over looked, but is one of the most important and easiest ways to
help a person get a job. Employers search through applications every day searching for someone that
has a resume that catches their attention. A well rounded resume tells an employer that the applicant
cares about getting the job and has a proper education. A resume that is poorly written could be seen
as uncaring and show a lack of education. An applicant with a developed writing skill can create a
resume that employers are looking for and will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Eric Schlosser s Fast Food Nation
Fast Food Nation (Assignment #2)
Chapter 1: Eric Schlosser used background information and sympathized on Carl Kartcher for specific
reasons. Schlosser wanted to show the readers that back in the 40s and 50s that fast food was not
nearly what it is today. They were family owned restaurants that spent a lot of time and money on
making the best products possible. Carl was able to start his own barbeque restaurant like he wanted
and it was a success. The sympathy that Schlosser used was to try and get the reader to agree with
him. Sympathy is an effective way to get the reader to agree with you because it deals with emotions
and emotions usually sway a reader to one side of the argument or the other.
Chapter 5: Artificial flavoring and coloring is a great success in the fast food industry because people
like paying for foods that look and taste great, but do not really know what is in it. When Schlosser
states, A typical artificial strawberry flavor, like the kind found in a Burger King strawberry

there are of them. The easiest way is to just simply stop buying their products. He uses these facts and
illustrations just to show that there are possible ways to stop these fast food industries from being

Analysis of Plato´s Republic
Republic, perhaps Plato s most famous work focusing on justice and its values, is also home to
Socrates unique ideas and the challenges that he faces throughout his dialogues with other
philosophers. Nevertheless, justice is not the only topic that Plato examines in his work. In the
Republic, a simple discussion of the justice and the different characteristics of cities, escalates into a
discussion about the souls of individuals. Socrates starts out by offering an agreement to the fact that
since cities are made of individuals, their characteristics can also be found in individuals. From his
writings, Plato exemplifies most of Socrates arguments towards the development of his own
arguments. One very famous theory developed by Plato from ... Show more content on

Though Socrates attempts to define the three parts of the soul in detail, he is faced with some
challenges. Socrates seems unsatisfied with his discovery, as he questions himself whether these parts
work individually, or together, each controlling an appropriate portion of the soul. In order to find an
appropriate explanation to his question, Socrates brings an example of a soul desiring a drink, and a
soul that is desires to get a drink. He claims that although driven by the same desire of thirst, these are
different. However, the souls can never desire completely opposite things at the same exact time. For
example, if one part of the soul wants a drink, and the other part desires to get a drink, the third part
cannot forbid itself from taking a drink. Aside from defining the different parts of the soul, Socrates
also needs to prove that the souls can be viewed as having virtues, just like the cities. The city
originated by Socrates in the theory is a entirely good city. In his words, it is wise, courageous,
moderate and just (Republic 4.427d). Socrates presents each virtue (wisdom, courage, moderation, and
justice) in the city. Now, he is determined to show that the same virtues exist within individuals.
Consequently, Socrates proves that justice is comfort for the soul and henceforth beneficial to the soul.
(444c 445a). Socrates divides sets each virtue where he believes they belong. He claims that

Negotiation Is Important And Vital Skill Today s Modern...
Introduction: Negotiation is an important and vital skill in today s modern world. In the famous words
of John F. Kennedy, Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate (Kennedy).
Our words hold a great deal of power, and how we use them is important as well. Through negotiation,
common ground can be discovered and uncovered, making strives for a better future. Negotiation: In
our set of lecture notes, there is an entire lecture devoted to negotiation and the two kinds of
negotiation distributive and integrative. Distribute negotiation is defined as a win or lose negotiation,
where sides compete over the distribution of a fixed amount (Smith). The second sort of negotiation,

Both sides must be creative at coming up with things that are good for both of you (Smith). A website
called Entrepreneur discusses the big points to have down before approaching a negotiation.
Preparation is key, and know the party you are negotiating with. Have a strategy, and know your offer
and reasoning behind it. Lastly, go for a win win solution. Your goal should be to secure a good deal
without extracting the last pound of flesh from the other party (Sanibel). Situation: I live in an
apartment with two other ladies, one of which is very messy, rude, and immature. Truth be told she is
not mature enough to be living on her own, however, somehow she scrapes the money together each
month to live here. The situation with my roommate, Mia, is that she constantly disrespects this
apartment and those who live here. She never locks the front door, she lets dishes pile up in the sink
for weeks, and she never cleans up after cooking until days later. To top it all off, she recently has
dropped out of college, so she now does not have school to concentrate on, leaving her life to be one
big party. As of late, I have been woken up multiple times in the middle of the night because of the
high noise of her get togethers at 4 in the morning. This is only one example of many; needless to say,

Examples Of Invasive Species In Ontario
Introduced species are seldom a positive addition to an ecosystem as they cause great stress and harm
to the populations of native species. Many introduced species become invasive as they have no natural
predators in their new environment, therefore they thrive, and crowd out all other animals. Some
examples of invasive species in Ontario waters include the round goby, zebra mussels, eurasian ruffe,
goldfish, northern snakehead, rainbow smelt, and rudd, to name a few. A great example to show how
destructive an introduced fish can be is the asian carp, this species spreads very aggressively and it is
considered the greatest threat to aquatic ecosystems in Ontario. These fish grow to be very large in
size, up to 40 kg and 1 meter long. The asian

with the referee blowing his whistle. Both players get up, and Nike s phrase Leave Nothing appears,
they congratulate one another, and run back to their specific team. Through the commercial s message
of cultural reinforcement anyone can understand the message promoted by Nike. That message being
that an ordinary person with enough determination, blood and sweat, will achieve their goal. And if I
or anyone else would like to be the next LaDainian Tomlinson or Troy Polamalu I will do so by
buying and wearing the Nike brand and it s the small details that let the viewer put the message
together. The commercial begins with a close up of a sonogram, and a fetus kicking about. At this
point we don t know whether the fetus is a boy or a girl. The following scene is of a newborn wrapped
in a blue blanket that has been placed in a new born nursery at the hospital. At this point we
understand that the fetus is boy. But how do we realize it s a boy? The pivotal blue blanket. As a
society we have established certain colors that represent one s sex: pink for girls and blue

Air For Band Analysis
Band Air for Band Frank Erickson Grade 2 This classic of band literature has beautiful melodies.
While it appears simple on the surface, it offers a wonderful opportunity to teach bands about long
legato phrasing and balance. This piece is mainly in the key of C Minor. There are many syncopated
entrances, providing an excellent opportunity to work with students on developing an internal beat.
Blue Ridge Saga James Swearingen Grade 2 This piece includes a variety of meter (including 6/8) and
styles for students to play in. There are some places in the 6/8 where the band plays in duples. There is
a short percussion solo and several solis for upper woodwinds and trumpets; they also have some 16th
note runes. This piece has a catchy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several sections get the chance to play soli including flutes, clarinets, trumpets, and trombones. The
work is in ABA form, with contrast in styles between marcato and legato making this piece
interesting. Prehistoric Suite Paul Jennings Grade 1.5 This piece is a great way to introduce
multimovement pieces to beginning groups. It is a programmatic work with four short movements
including: Stegosaurus; Brontosaurus; Pteradactyls and The Battle (Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops).
Each movement has a different mood for students to play in. The fourth movement has some free time
sections for students to experiment with. There are several other things that may be new for students
including glissandos and disonant chords. Train Heading West Other Outdoor Scenes Timothy Broege
Grade 1 Train Heading West is a three movement work that is highly programmatic. The last
movement represents the train; the movement starts slowly and accelerates drammatically. Near the
end of the piece the train reaches its final destination. There is a lot of unison playing and section soli.
This piece has a lot of sudden dynamic contrast and contrasting articulation styles. Percussion play

Reflection On Conflict
In this paper I will describe a conflict that has occurred in my life. It had a huge impact on my second
year of college and even today things still pop up from it, because I still run into each of these girls. In
this particular conflict between my old roommates we will review a course concept involving the four
phases of conflict escalation. Starting with phase one, a perceived threat to someone, followed by
defensiveness, then stonewalling, and lastly contempt. After the conflict occurs, one of the parties uses
the course concept of face saving by portraying something that is not really her true feeling. In order
to overcome this conflict, I will discuss how the parties need to mediate and learn to communicate
efficiently, as well as listen to each other more. The course concept I will use to help solve the conflict
is a facultative method with a third party intervention. I am also hoping to make a facilitating
reappraisal, where it might be possible to reframe the conflict. While discussing facilitating
reappraisal we will dig deeper into discussing third party intervention, which I believe both parties
may need.
My rationale for this particular choice of conflict is based on the horrible living experience I went
through last year. After the conflict, my roommates continued to struggle to get along and would argue
over little things, when there seemed to be something deeper. It bothered me for a long time because it
also impacted me. Our first year of living together everything went well, however it all started when
our lease came to an end so we were going to have to resign. So my roommates and I ended up
picking a different town house in the same apartment complex because it was bigger. The week before
it came time to sign Kaia had said that she wanted a room on the third floor. Beth at some point in
time had said she wanted a room with a window since the previous year she had not had one. Well, a
week went by and the last day to sign was here. However, Kaia got up that morning and went ahead
and signed because she was going to be gone all day bridesmaid shopping for her sister. When Beth
went up to sign later she was upset because she had apparently wanted the third floor with the window

My Journey For My Life
My college applications were complete and I was on top of the world. My father couldn t be more
proud of my accomplishment. His face beamed with excitement as he enthusiastically told all of his
friends, colleagues, and family that I was about to transfer to a university. The rejoicing didn t last
long, and came to an abrupt halt when I witnessed my father having a seizure and collapsing. He was
diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor that week and passed away the following summer, causing
my life to take a drastic turn. Since my father was the only person I relied on, his passing had a major
impact on my life. Yet, the hardships subsequent to his passing played a powerful role in the person I
have become and fuel my pursuit of becoming an attorney. My journey begins long before I was born
and began when my parents were Iranian refugees and escaped the persecution that ensued after the
Islamic Revolution of 1979. The political turmoil led my parents to leave their family and possessions
behind as they sought to provide a better life for their three children in America. Along their journey to
the United States, I was born. After years of strenuous travels, my parents arrived in Los Angeles in
February of 1989. Shortly after arriving, my parents decided to get a divorce. My mother remarried,
and I gravitated towards my father. He embraced me with open arms of love, and told me nothing had
changed. At that point it was clear that my father was my hero. My father supported me

For every thing their is always a symbol resembling it. For example on the house on mango street by
Sandra Cisneros. The symbol is the house itself because in the story all she talks about is how the

would be the summer from The Flowers by Alice Walker . In the story there was a girl who loses her

Welcome Speech For Graduation Speech
Good morning respected guests and members of the community, staff, family, friends and fellow
graduates. Let me begin by welcoming you all to today s event and thanking Ms. Pavlou, Ms. Barresi,
Ms. Adamo, Mr. Tenaglia, and _____ . I am absolutely honored to be standing here representing the
graduating class of 2017. On behalf of the graduates, I would like to thank you for joining us on this
auspicious occasion. Today is one of those great occasions when we get the opportunity to celebrate
our achievements, our perseverance and successes as we grow up. It is one of the times that we can
reflect just how much we have accomplished and grown in our years at 141. Graduation is a time of
reflecting on the past and looking onward to the future. It can be seen as a coming of age, an official
way to recognize when a person steps into a new stage of life, and graduates, we are stepping into a
new stage. It is a time that we, as graduates, get together for one last hurrah before moving on to
bigger and better adventures. This year we have a very unique and exceptional group of students who
are graduating. We have grown, changed, and experienced so much together. As we look back upon
three amazing years, it is incontrovertible that IS 141 has played an instrumental role in helping to
shape the individuals we are today. There is something most definitely unique about IS 141. There is a
magic at this school that is inimitable, and we have been incredibly fortunate to experience

The Basic Buddhist Teachings
Explain the basic Buddhist teachings including the Three Marks of Reality, the Four Noble Truths, and
the Noble Eightfold Path. The Three Marks of Reality denote the nature of human existence: the
reality of suffering (which does not mean the presence of sorrow, but rather the existence of a
constantly changing world where neither extreme happiness nor misery is stable); the impermanent
nature of all things, including human existence; and finally egolessness or the notion that there is no
stable, human self (O Brien, 2012, Three Marks). The Three Marks of Reality relate directly to the
Four Noble Truths, the first tenant of which is that there is suffering in the world, and the second of
which is that there is a cause of suffering: suffering caused by the false conception that there is a
stable human ego. The third noble truth is that there is an end to suffering, and the fourth is that the
end to suffering can be achieved by following the Eightfold Path (O Brien, 2012, Four Noble Truths).
The Eightfold Path is divided into three basic sections: that of wisdom, ethical conduct, and mental
discipline. Right view and right intention means understanding what the Buddha taught and striving to
follow the path for the right reasons. Right speech, action, and livelihood mean acting in a beneficial
manner towards others. Right effort, mindfulness and concentration require the practitioner to
discipline him or herself with meditation (O Brien, 2012, Eightfold Path). Amongst all

What Role Does Diophantus Play In The Evolution Of Algebra
Algebra is the basis of all math and its advancement took place in three major steps. The first stage of
algebra is rhetorical algebra dating back to before 275 BCE. Rhetorical algebra was a form of algebra
that contained no symbols so to them +, , and*, did not exist. It was usually explained orally or written
on scribes. They were able to do things such as find squad and cubed roots, solve linear equations, and
explain fractions. As well as recognizing irrational numbers and identifying that quadratics had two
answers. The next phase in algebra s evolution was Syncopated math. This was most popularly used
between 275 BCE 1600. Diophantus played a crucial role in this stage by being the first to develop
algebraic notations and abbreviations.

War In Iraq
The war in Iraq was a very controversial and often times disapproved of war. It is seen as
counterproductive only bringing forth horrors for those involved in it. In light of the evidence
provided, it is certainly apparent that Canada was perfectly justified in its decision not to enter the war
in Iraq. By abstaining from the war, Canada was able to save countless lives, did not have to deal with
implications at home due to war and was able to maintain the well being of Canadians back home.
Any war takes a tremendous toll on the lives of those soldiers involved in the effort and at times,
citizens as well. By abstaining from entering the Iraq war, Canada was able to prevent this completely

Most importantly, however, it added majorly to the wellbeing of Canadians back home. The most
discernable reason for this being that Canadians did not have to live in constant fear of being attacked
on during the time of the Iraq war. Citizens of countries involved in war should always be prepared for
the worst but due to Canada not even being a part of the war, Canadians did not have to accept this
harsh reality. Furthermore, terrorist groups similar to ISIS were created during the war as many people
in Iraq felt anger towards the countries that were in their views invading and hurting their nation. A
recent survey has shown that after America s war on terror , terrorism in Iraq actually increased. [6]
Not being a part of this war saved Canadians from being hated and targeted by these terrorist groups.
In addition, Canada not being a part of the war helped Canada keep it s trading relationship with Iraq
that is an asset. This has been proven by a statement online revealing that, Iraq has 115 billion barrels
of proven oil reserves, the fifth largest in the world [7]. Oil is a widely and desperately needed
resource, which can only be found in a few places. The availability of oil leads to a better standard to
living for the people of Canada as oil is needed for many reasons and is a quickly diminishing
resource. If Canada were to be in the Iraq war of 2003, it could

Negative Effects Of Drugs In Sports
I believe that performance enhancing drugs are recognized as a negative effect to the sports society
because of the effects and unfair advantage it gives athletes. Athletes who are serious about their game
want to win at any cost and some do so using performance enhancing drugs. These performance
enhancing drugs include: anabolic steroids, androstenedione, human growth hormone, erythropoietin,
diuretics, creatine and stimulants.
Every college athlete wants to be the best and with the increase of childhood athletes, stress to
perform at a high level increase as well. The drive to be successful in their competition and perform at
a high level often is positive, resulting in self confidence, teamwork, and leadership. The drive can
also result in a negative one as well. For an example, winning at all costs. Athletes sometimes lose
focus of the game itself and become selfish, taking performance enhancing drugs it not only puts
athlete s health at risk but it also gives them unfair advantage to others. Testosterone is a sex hormone
that plays an important role in our body, especially men. In men, it regulates sex drive, bone mass, fat
distribution, muscle mass and strength. There are two different effects that testosterone has on our
body: Anabolic effects (promotes muscle building) and Androgenic effects (facial hair deeper voice).
This hormone is largely responsible for our muscle tissue and our total metabolic rate. When
testosterone levels increase, so does our

Our team then made our decision that because the test statistic of 18.51 is far greater then that of the
Chi square value at v = 4,  = .05 in Appendix E, we must reject the null hypothesis that all c
populations are the same (2007). These results can be viewed in Appendix D, where at the significance
level of .05, it shows the Chi square of 25.75, which is still far above the level for the team to reject
the null hypothesis that all c population medians are the same. The team continues the research by
giving details to the nonparametric test we used and why we opted to use it.
Explain Kruskal Wallis Test
The use of the nonparametric test teaches all researchers to use smaller sample, normality is not a
requirement, and can be used for ordinal (ranked) data. The reason for our team choosing the Kruskal
Wallis test is that; one, it is the corresponding test to the One Factor ANOVA test that we ran in the
previous research paper of week three; two the team was able to compare independent samples from
the five different groups even though the sample sizes were not the same, but did include the

The Assassination of Franz Ferdinand Essay
While there is never just a single event that has led to the start of a world war, or any other serious
war, there is often one thing that triggers long lived tensions and thus war ensues. Such was the case in
WWI with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. There were many tensions that existed
prior to his assassination, but it was his assassination which triggered the war, his assassination that
served as an excuse, and perhaps the last straw, so to speak, which led to the First World War. The
following paper examines the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and its relationship to the start of
WWI. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Under the rule at the time of the assassination, the old Austrio

The European leaders and individuals were perhaps becoming very untrusting of one another, and the
tensions were rising as no one would rely on the agreements made by anyone. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;As a result of all this tension and distrust, in combination with the
assassination of Ferdinand, many nations came together or attacked certain nations that were a threat.
For example, the assassination led Austria to declare war on Serbia and Germany declared war on
Russia, and then France and then Belgium (Cox). Great Britain then declared war on Germany and
Japan on Germany (Cox). Clearly there were many tensions that were just waiting for the right
moment, the breaking of the camel s back, to push nations to truly act. And, since other nations were
acting, each nation took that as a sign to go ahead with plans they had perhaps had for several years.
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;In relationship to these tensions were other

The documentary that I chose to watch this time around was Kelly Anderson s 2010 short Never

conventions that we have gone over in class, including formal interview and fly on the wall style
footage. It centers on three self proclaimed collectors and their hard journey to cleaning up their act.
Each of the three hoarders is guided in their endeavors by a man named Ron Alford. Alford is the
owner of a company called Disaster Masters, wherein they go out to hoarder s homes, as well as other
people in need of help organizing, and assist in cleaning up and downsizing. Throughout the film, you

That deeper purpose is to turn the spotlight on American consumerism and the rampant materialism
that runs so many Western lives. This can be seen with the two men that are profiled in the film, David
Guess and Jay Helfenbein. Both men have troubles with constant purchasing of goods. David is a
sucker for a good bargain, and as such fills his house and garage with goods that he s found on sale.
Guess openly admits that one of the reason he is constantly making purchases is because buys things
makes him feel good and allows him to feel of a certain social standing because of his ability for
consumerism. Jay, on the other hand, is addicted to home shopping channels and his New York
apartment is filled with QVC boxes that, after having been opening, are left abandoned in towers. One
of the reasons he is presumed to be so addicted is because of the feelings of fulfilment he gets from
speaking with the operators who know him and his profile so well. This shines a much needed light on
American hyper consumerism and the affects, like hoarding, that such a thing can have on people. For
these men, and to some extent Michele, being surrounded by the things they have bought and

The Alegorical Nature of O Captain! My Captain! by Walt...
Explication of O Captain! My Captain! O Captain! My Captain! is one of the most popular poems
ever written by Walt Whitman. Upon the initial reading of this poem, one may perceive the poem to be
about a loyal captain who leads his crew on a treacherous, but successful, voyage which ends in
devastation. If interpreted literally this is the poem s only meaning, but for those who look further
there is an underlying story behind the words of Whitman. Whitman uses multiple literary elements
throughout this poem in order to unmask the story of Abraham Lincoln s journey and ultimate death as
a result of the Civil War and his fight to end slavery. The title of the poem, O Captain! My Captain! ,
insinuates that the poem will be centered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker states, Rise up for you the flag is flung for you the bugle trills (line 10). This is
interpreted as the ending of the war due to the patriotic symbolism of the flag which stands for
freedom and also victory. Within this stanza, the importance of the captain is now extended from just
the speaker to all those who await the ship s arrival. This is demonstrated as the speaker states, For
you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning (lines 11 12). The joyful tone of the stanza
ceases towards the end as an unexpected downfall of emotions begins. Whitman uses repetition in
lines 15 and 16 when he states It is some dream that on the deck, / You ve fallen cold and dead (lines
15 16). This serves as a disturbing reminder that the figure which was most significant to the entire
situation is no longer alive. The depressing realization of the captain s death is evident and seen most
within the last stanza as the tone changes from that of triumph and elation to heartbreak and grief. This
is shown through Whitman s use of imagery as the speaker states, My Captain does not answer, his
lips are pale and still, / My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will (lines 17 18). This
provides a detailed description of the lifeless captain as he lies on the deck. The following lines
describe the successfulness of the mission as the captain has led his crew to safety after accomplishing
the goals which were set. This alteration in tone

How did the different kings of the 400s effect The Christian faith? What were the positives and
negatives of each?
The Christian faith was effected differently dependent upon the king at the time, and the changes they
decided to make. Sometimes for the positive and sometimes for the negative. Originally the Church
and the Roman Empire in the East worked closely together. By the mid 400 s the commander in chief,
who was named, Odovacar, was king of the Goths, (he deposed the Western emperor in 476.) Then
Theidoric became king of the eastern Goths, he managed to keep the peace, however he had one major
different religious belief. Thai difference was that the Romans were allied to the Church of Rome; the
Goths, Theodoric included, were Arians. Theodoric granted religious freedom to all. Clovis, king of
the Franks was baptized and had thousands of his soldiers be baptized with him. (The Franks were the
only Catholics.) Clovis used the Church to unite the people, and had a set order of religious rituals. As
the Franks spread Arianism died out. However then disagreements arose amongst the bishop of Rome
and patriarch of Constantinople of theological matter. So Denis the Short created the canon law, he
also changed lists of the saints, and he started a new calendar one dating from the year of Christ s birth
(what we use today.)

The Colonization Of Africa During The 19th Century
The Europeans became invested in Africa in the start of the 17th Century when the Dutch established
a port on the Cape of Good Hope on the southern tip of Africa to grant their ships extended range to
better access the rich Indies. Modern day South Africa, known at the time as Pretoria, was a hotly
contested place among the European powers. Initially there was not much to attract Europeans to the
area besides its great strategic location. Dutch settlers, also known as Boers, were apt to travel inland
and constantly established properties beyond the official borders of their colony. The migration of the
Boers often translated to skirmishes with native African tribes. The British also established a colony
on the Cape of Good Hope. The Brits sometimes brokered treaties and attempted to keep the Boers
and tribes from fighting amongst each other. In the middle of the 19th century Britain controlled the
colonies of the Cape and Natal. The British colonies extended from the Cape to the North and around
the eastern sea shore, nearly to Portuguese Mozambique. The Boers occupied two interior colonies:
The Orange Free State and the Transvaal. The African tribes were positioned in between all of the
colonies. The Zulu For centuries the Zulu tribe, also known as the Zulu Kingdom, had fought
neighboring tribes and became the strongest of them all. The Zulu were located across the Mzinyathi
and Thukela rivers and north of the Natal Territory. In 1824 the leader of the Zulu

The Testament Of Isaiah And Isaiah
Throughout the Old Testament God carried out his plan to bring His people back to Him. Often the
people of Israel would fall away from their relationship with God by worshipping false Idols such as
Baal or by disobeying His commands in general. One of the main ways God got his message of
redemption to His people was via prophets, spiritually gifted individuals that God lifted up to
communicate His will to the people of Israel. The prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah often were used to call
Israel out on their wickedness, and to warn then of God s coming judgement that would teach them a
lesson. It is clear from what the prophets wrote, that God very much intended to wipe the sins of the
nation s away, one way or another. This is a message that still very much applies today, Isaiah and
Jeremiah were meant to steer God s people back to Him and their messages with Christians today are
supposed to do the same. Judah and Israel in their time were constantly full of sins and needing to be
cleansed. In the beginning of Isaiah, he opens by stating that they were a sinful nation, A people laden
with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the lord. (Isaiah
1:4, New King James Version). The sins of Judah and Israel were many and that is why God sent the
prophets with the message they gave. In attempt to warn the people that disobeying God s
commandments would lead to harsh punishment. It is apparent that God did respond to the sins
harshly. In

Each of these groups share one thing in common, that is each requires us to communicate in some way in order to reach a shared goal or target. Therefore, it is imperative to know and understand how to work and communicate effectively with others to maximise outcomes and productivity. Tuckman proposes that groups develop via five stages; forming, storming, norming, performing and finally adjourning (Archee, Gurney, Mohan, 2013a). The first stage, known as forming, involves clarifying the task and purpose of the group, and identifying boundaries of both the task and interpersonal behaviour (Archee et al., 2013a). For the presentation task we were randomly allocated into groups. This worried me greatly as I have struggled in the past with group members who do not contribute equally or see the task as important as other group members. To avoid this problem, the group collectively determined and agreed upon a number of ground rules. For example, we decided that all group members were expected to contribute equally to the presentation, all group members were expected to attend and contribute at all group meetings, and all group members would adhere to agreed upon deadlines. Having failed to do this in previous group assignments, this clarification stage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technology rapidly advanced and computers became a necessity in everyday life. In today s society living without a computer would be difficult; most employers will give a web address instead of a paper application, any information one could possibly need is available with a few clicks of the mouse, and many teachers create their lesson plans with educational videos and interactive programs inbetween the book work. However, writing is still important; without writing employers would have poor applications, historians would lack written documentation of history, and teachers would not be able to use a white board to teach a lesson. Writing in the work force is often over looked, but is one of the most important and easiest ways to help a person get a job. Employers search through applications every day searching for someone that has a resume that catches their attention. Analysis of Plato´s Republic Republic, perhaps Plato s most famous work focusing on justice and its values, is also home to Socrates unique ideas and the challenges that he faces throughout his dialogues with other philosophers. Nevertheless, justice is not the only topic that Plato examines in his work. In the Republic, a simple discussion of the justice and the different characteristics of cities, escalates into a discussion about the souls of individuals. Socrates starts out by offering an agreement to the fact that since cities are made of individuals, their characteristics can also be found in individuals. From his writings, Plato exemplifies most of Socrates arguments towards the development of his own arguments. One very famous theory developed by Plato from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though Socrates attempts to define the three parts of the soul in detail, he is faced with some challenges. Socrates seems unsatisfied with his discovery, as he questions himself whether these parts work individually, or together, each controlling an appropriate portion of the soul. In order to find an appropriate explanation to his question, Socrates brings an example of a soul desiring a drink, and a soul that is desires to get a drink. He claims that although driven by the same desire of thirst, these are different. However, the souls can never desire completely opposite things at the same exact time. For example, if one part of the soul wants a drink, and the other part desires to get a drink, the third part cannot forbid itself from taking a drink. Aside from defining the different parts of the soul, Socrates also needs to prove that the souls can be viewed as having virtues, just like the cities. The city originated by Socrates in the theory is a entirely good city. In his words, it is wise, courageous, moderate and just (Republic 4.427d). Socrates presents each virtue (wisdom, courage, moderation, and justice) in the city. Now, he is determined to show that the same virtues exist within individuals. Consequently, Socrates proves that justice is comfort for the soul and henceforth beneficial to the soul. (444c 445a). Socrates divides sets each virtue where he believes they belong. It had a huge impact on my second year of college and even today things still pop up from it, because I still run into each of these girls. In this particular conflict between my old roommates we will review a course concept involving the four phases of conflict escalation. Starting with phase one, a perceived threat to someone, followed by defensiveness, then stonewalling, and lastly contempt. After the conflict occurs, one of the parties uses the course concept of face saving by portraying something that is not really her true feeling. In order to overcome this conflict, I will discuss how the parties need to mediate and learn to communicate efficiently, as well as listen to each other more. The course concept I will use to help solve the conflict is a facultative method with a third party intervention. I am also hoping to make a facilitating reappraisal, where it might be possible to reframe the conflict. While discussing facilitating reappraisal we will dig deeper into discussing third party intervention, which I believe both parties may need. My rationale for this particular choice of conflict is based on the horrible living experience I went through last year. After the conflict, my roommates continued to struggle to get along and would argue over little things, when there seemed to be something deeper. It bothered me for a long time because it also impacted me. Our first year of living together everything went well, however it all started when our lease came to an end so we were going to have to resign. So my roommates and I ended up picking a different town house in the same apartment complex because it was bigger. The week before it came time to sign Kaia had said that she wanted a room on the third floor. Beth at some point in time had said she wanted a room with a window since the previous year she had not had one. Well, a week went by and the last day to sign was here. However, Kaia got up that morning and went ahead and signed because she was going to be gone all day bridesmaid shopping for her sister. • 24. My Journey For My Life My college applications were complete and I was on top of the world. My father couldn t be more proud of my accomplishment. His face beamed with excitement as he enthusiastically told all of his friends, colleagues, and family that I was about to transfer to a university. The rejoicing didn t last long, and came to an abrupt halt when I witnessed my father having a seizure and collapsing. He was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor that week and passed away the following summer, causing my life to take a drastic turn. Since my father was the only person I relied on, his passing had a major impact on my life. Yet, the hardships subsequent to his passing played a powerful role in the person I have become and fuel my pursuit of becoming an attorney. My journey begins long before I was born and began when my parents were Iranian refugees and escaped the persecution that ensued after the Islamic Revolution of 1979. The political turmoil led my parents to leave their family and possessions behind as they sought to provide a better life for their three children in America. Along their journey to the United States, I was born. After years of strenuous travels, my parents arrived in Los Angeles in February of 1989. Shortly after arriving, my parents decided to get a divorce. My mother remarried, and I gravitated towards my father. He embraced me with open arms of love, and told me nothing had changed. • 27. The Basic Buddhist Teachings Explain the basic Buddhist teachings including the Three Marks of Reality, the Four Noble Truths, and the Noble Eightfold Path. The Three Marks of Reality denote the nature of human existence: the reality of suffering (which does not mean the presence of sorrow, but rather the existence of a constantly changing world where neither extreme happiness nor misery is stable); the impermanent nature of all things, including human existence; and finally egolessness or the notion that there is no stable, human self (O Brien, 2012, Three Marks). The Three Marks of Reality relate directly to the Four Noble Truths, the first tenant of which is that there is suffering in the world, and the second of which is that there is a cause of suffering: suffering caused by the false conception that there is a stable human ego. The third noble truth is that there is an end to suffering, and the fourth is that the end to suffering can be achieved by following the Eightfold Path (O Brien, 2012, Four Noble Truths). The Eightfold Path is divided into three basic sections: that of wisdom, ethical conduct, and mental discipline. Right view and right intention means understanding what the Buddha taught and striving to follow the path for the right reasons. Right speech, action, and livelihood mean acting in a beneficial manner towards others. Right effort, mindfulness and concentration require the practitioner to discipline him or herself with meditation (O Brien, 2012, Eightfold Path). Amongst all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. What Role Does Diophantus Play In The Evolution Of Algebra Algebra is the basis of all math and its advancement took place in three major steps. The first stage of algebra is rhetorical algebra dating back to before 275 BCE. Rhetorical algebra was a form of algebra that contained no symbols so to them +, , and*, did not exist. It was usually explained orally or written on scribes. They were able to do things such as find squad and cubed roots, solve linear equations, and explain fractions. As well as recognizing irrational numbers and identifying that quadratics had two answers. The next phase in algebra s evolution was Syncopated math. This was most popularly used between 275 BCE 1600. Diophantus played a crucial role in this stage by being the first to develop algebraic notations and abbreviations. ... Most importantly, however, it added majorly to the wellbeing of Canadians back home. The most discernable reason for this being that Canadians did not have to live in constant fear of being attacked on during the time of the Iraq war. Citizens of countries involved in war should always be prepared for the worst but due to Canada not even being a part of the war, Canadians did not have to accept this harsh reality. Furthermore, terrorist groups similar to ISIS were created during the war as many people in Iraq felt anger towards the countries that were in their views invading and hurting their nation. A recent survey has shown that after America s war on terror , terrorism in Iraq actually increased. [6] Not being a part of this war saved Canadians from being hated and targeted by these terrorist groups. In addition, Canada not being a part of the war helped Canada keep it s trading relationship with Iraq that is an asset. This has been proven by a statement online revealing that, Iraq has 115 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, the fifth largest in the world [7]. Oil is a widely and desperately needed resource, which can only be found in a few places. Negative Effects Of Drugs In Sports I believe that performance enhancing drugs are recognized as a negative effect to the sports society because of the effects and unfair advantage it gives athletes. Athletes who are serious about their game want to win at any cost and some do so using performance enhancing drugs. These performance enhancing drugs include: anabolic steroids, androstenedione, human growth hormone, erythropoietin, diuretics, creatine and stimulants. Every college athlete wants to be the best and with the increase of childhood athletes, stress to perform at a high level increase as well. The drive to be successful in their competition and perform at a high level often is positive, resulting in self confidence, teamwork, and leadership. The drive can also result in a negative one as well. For an example, winning at all costs. Athletes sometimes lose focus of the game itself and become selfish, taking performance enhancing drugs it not only puts athlete s health at risk but it also gives them unfair advantage to others. Testosterone is a sex hormone that plays an important role in our body, especially men. In men, it regulates sex drive, bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass and strength. There were many tensions that existed prior to his assassination, but it was his assassination which triggered the war, his assassination that served as an excuse, and perhaps the last straw, so to speak, which led to the First World War. Upon the initial reading of this poem, one may perceive the poem to be about a loyal captain who leads his crew on a treacherous, but successful, voyage which ends in devastation. If interpreted literally this is the poem s only meaning, but for those who look further there is an underlying story behind the words of Whitman. Whitman uses multiple literary elements throughout this poem in order to unmask the story of Abraham Lincoln s journey and ultimate death as a result of the Civil War and his fight to end slavery. The speaker states, Rise up for you the flag is flung for you the bugle trills (line 10). This is interpreted as the ending of the war due to the patriotic symbolism of the flag which stands for freedom and also victory. Within this stanza, the importance of the captain is now extended from just the speaker to all those who await the ship s arrival. This is demonstrated as the speaker states, For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning (lines 11 12). The joyful tone of the stanza ceases towards the end as an unexpected downfall of emotions begins. Whitman uses repetition in lines 15 and 16 when he states It is some dream that on the deck, / You ve fallen cold and dead (lines 15 16). This serves as a disturbing reminder that the figure which was most significant to the entire situation is no longer alive. The depressing realization of the captain s death is evident and seen most within the last stanza as the tone changes from that of triumph and elation to heartbreak and grief. This is shown through Whitman s use of imagery as the speaker states, My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still, / My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will (lines 17 18). This provides a detailed description of the lifeless captain as he lies on the deck. The following lines describe the successfulness of the mission as the captain has led his crew to safety after accomplishing the goals which were set. This alteration in tone ... How did the different kings of the 400s effect The Christian faith? What were the positives and negatives of each? The Christian faith was effected differently dependent upon the king at the time, and the changes they decided to make. Sometimes for the positive and sometimes for the negative. Originally the Church and the Roman Empire in the East worked closely together. By the mid 400 s the commander in chief, who was named, Odovacar, was king of the Goths, (he deposed the Western emperor in 476.) Then Theidoric became king of the eastern Goths, he managed to keep the peace, however he had one major different religious belief. Thai difference was that the Romans were allied to the Church of Rome; the Goths, Theodoric included, were Arians. Theodoric granted religious freedom to all. Clovis, king of the Franks was baptized and had thousands of his soldiers be baptized with him. (The Franks were the only Catholics.) Clovis used the Church to unite the people, and had a set order of religious rituals. As the Franks spread Arianism died out. However then disagreements arose amongst the bishop of Rome and patriarch of Constantinople of theological matter. So Denis the Short created the canon law, he also changed lists of the saints, and he started a new calendar one dating from the year of Christ s birth (what we use today.) ... The Colonization Of Africa During The 19th Century The Europeans became invested in Africa in the start of the 17th Century when the Dutch established a port on the Cape of Good Hope on the southern tip of Africa to grant their ships extended range to better access the rich Indies. Modern day South Africa, known at the time as Pretoria, was a hotly contested place among the European powers. Initially there was not much to attract Europeans to the area besides its great strategic location. Dutch settlers, also known as Boers, were apt to travel inland and constantly established properties beyond the official borders of their colony. The migration of the Boers often translated to skirmishes with native African tribes. The British also established a colony on the Cape of Good Hope. The Brits sometimes brokered treaties and attempted to keep the Boers and tribes from fighting amongst each other. In the middle of the 19th century Britain controlled the colonies of the Cape and Natal. The British colonies extended from the Cape to the North and around the eastern sea shore, nearly to Portuguese Mozambique. The Boers occupied two interior colonies: The Orange Free State and the Transvaal. The African tribes were positioned in between all of the colonies. Often the people of Israel would fall away from their relationship with God by worshipping false Idols such as Baal or by disobeying His commands in general. One of the main ways God got his message of redemption to His people was via prophets, spiritually gifted individuals that God lifted up to communicate His will to the people of Israel. The prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah often were used to call Israel out on their wickedness, and to warn then of God s coming judgement that would teach them a lesson. It is clear from what the prophets wrote, that God very much intended to wipe the sins of the nation s away, one way or another. This is a message that still very much applies today, Isaiah and Jeremiah were meant to steer God s people back to Him and their messages with Christians today are supposed to do the same. Judah and Israel in their time were constantly full of sins and needing to be cleansed. In the beginning of Isaiah, he opens by stating that they were a sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the lord. (Isaiah 1:4, New King James Version). The sins of Judah and Israel were many and that is why God sent the prophets with the message they gave.
