The Influence Of Copyright On Popular Culture
As of the early twenty first century, capitalism has been the dominant economic system in most parts
of the world and has had a huge influence on the production of popular culture. Geared towards the
generation of profit, a capitalistic economy ensures that individuals and corporations possess the
power of creating and distributing wealth, as opposed to the public or the state. In order to maximize
profit, as is the main goal for individuals in capitalism, copyright appears to have become one of many
tools used by corporations most directly involved in the culture industry.
Though copyright may have been originally developed with the thought that it would increase
indigenous culture production, it is not feasible for artists to create work ... Show more content on

Recording industries to this day are continuously launching lawsuits file sharing software companies,
one of their most notable lawsuits being against Napster, a pioneer of file sharing software. Though
Napster did settle with the industry and started a subscription fee for all users, internet pirates are still
managing to find new ways that allow file sharing can continue all over the Internet. Industries
attempted to target people emotionally by creating ad campaigns describing file sharing as the
equivalent to theft; however, these were only met with mixed success. This was perhaps due to the fact
that file sharing also exposed the fact that the artists who create the music see very little profit. With
the majority of profits going to the marketing and distribution practices of major record labels, society
was left wondering where the real theft was

The Demand For Steel Mill Products
Macro Environment
Nucor Corporation is the largest manufacturer of steel and steel products in North America. The
worldwide industry in which Nucor competes had record years of crude steel production in 2010 and
2011. Steel making capacity worldwide was approximately 2,090 million tons in 2011, resulting in a
2011 capacity utilization rate of 80 percent versus just 75 percent in 2010. The demand for steel mill
products had grown 5.5 percent annually since 2000, but between 2000 and 2011 there have been
periods of both strong and weak demand. Weak demand caused over supplied conditions in the steel
industry worldwide and allowed Nucor to expand via acquisition. Steel product segments include the
production of steel deck, steel joists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Open hearth processing has become obsolete and continuous casting and the electric arc furnace has
been adopted. Information on the world steel industry including growth rates and production is listed
in Exhibit 1.
Competitive Forces Rivalry in the steel industry is intense and price is the main factor for
differentiation among competitors. Steel products are considered commodities and quality can be
inconsistent on occasion, for the most part, steel plants turn out products of comparable metallurgical
quality. The threat of new entry into the market is moderate. There are several entry barriers to
overcome, product differentiation being one of them; however, costs would be the main barrier. The
cost of raw materials can be very high since they are usually purchased in large quantities. Minimizing
fixed costs can also be very challenging. Competition from substitutes is considered low. There are
few substitutes for steel at this time. Steel is used for its strength and durability in auto manufacturing
and in construction. As technology advances there are possibilities for alternative materials in the
future. Supplier bargaining power is a high to moderate threat. Raw materials can be one of the largest
costs for a company so suppliers often have the upper hand. Having a cost effective strategy for the
supply of raw materials can have a huge effect on a company s bottom line. Many firms choose to
establish a joint venture with

Values In Ethics Of Care
Values and ethics are vital to any organization, Personal values can be defined as concepts or beliefs
about desirable end states or behaviours that transcend specific circumstances, guide selection or
evaluation of behavior and events, and are ordered by relative importance (Schwartz and Bilsky,
1987). Values convey what is important to us in our lives. We as individuals hold numerous values
with varying degrees of importance. Conflicts between personal and professional values are common.
Social workers are often faced with situations that bring them face to face with a conflict between
their personal values and professional values. Most professions aim to provide basic ethical rules that
professionals apply in decision making. These are usually derived from various traditional ethical
theories. This essay will be discussing and reflecting on some of these theories and how my personal
ethical values, shape and impact on my professional practice, using a case scenario.

Ethics of care is related to virtue theory, but emphasizes virtues that are important to personal
relations, such as compassion, sympathy, empathy, and loyalty (Budd, 2004). Perspectives of the
ethics of care does not see ethical dilemma as an abstract problem with only one ethically correct
solution which is agreed on by impartial observers and by applying universally accepted principles.
Rather, solutions emerge from relationships of mutual care and from the context in which the
problems are rooted (Jones et al., 2007). This theory gave me the option of approaching James, talking

Mass Migration to America During the 19th Century
This essay will address the reasons as to why there was mass migration to the United States of
America during the nineteenth century. As for this topic, the reasons for the mass migration was due to
industrialisation and employment and living standards, and thus many migrants traveled to America
with the hope of a better life. By saying that the reasons for the mass migration are primarily due to
industrialisation and employment and living standards, it is important to emphasize that the migrants
destination of America was better than remaining in their origin country. With all of this considered,
this essay will examine the roles of industrialisation and employment and living standard in the
decision to migrate to the United Sates of America during the nineteenth century. The potential reach
of this essay needs to be specified at the outset by identifying the migrants, whom traveled to America.
In the nineteenth century, the type of migrants can be broken into two periods, the early part of the
century, and the later half of the century. In the first half of the century, the migrants were primarily
farmers and artisans from rural areas, who traveled with family, and intended to acquire land and settle
permanently, whereas, in contrast, the migrants from the later half of the century were drawn from
urban areas with nonagricultural occupations, yet, in comparison, all the migrants were typically
unskilled and young, whom had limited schooling and training (Hatton,

Myth Functions As A Source Of Expression In Our Lives,
Myth functions as a source of expression in our lives, whether it be value, worldview or even how our
very own gender roles are impacted. Myth can allow particular behavior in response to how we
perceive and deal with the myth itself. If we accept the myth, we could potentially use it to cope with
life in general. Though fiction, myth gives our lives this sense of an exterior, or hidden human life that
is capable of giving our lives more meaning. Often times, and in the case for this paper, a sense of
feminism, the symbolism of the woman warrior speaks as the theme of myth.
To first compare this sense of myth into the reality of our daily lives, I d like to first look at Joseph
Campbell s theory in which signififies this expression of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or perhaps, consider the passage here, where Campbell makes it aware that from our dreams, we can
begin to learn about ourselves, For example, you may be worried about whether you are going to pass
an exam. Then you have a dream of some kind of failure, and you find that failure will be associated
with many other failures in your life. They are all piled up together there. Freud says even the most
fully expounded dream is not really fully expounded. The dream is an inexhaustible source of spiritual
information about yourself. Now the level of dream of will I pass the exam? or Should I marry this
girl? that is purely personal. But, on another level, the problem f passing an exam is not simply a
personal problem. Everyone has to pass a threshold of some kind. That is an archetypal thing. So there
is a basic mythological theme there even though it is a personal dream. These two levels the personal
aspect and then the big general problem of which the person s problem is a local example are found in
all cultures. For example, everyone has the problem of facing death. This is a standard mystery. From
this passage, Campbell gets a bit technical and personal on a different level than we would suggest
when we think of mythology. But I enjoy his perspective, how we are so intertwined with our dreams
and how our memories can identify us in such a way that we are thrown off of reality.

Coming To High School
Is the next big step coming? From middle school to high school? To be a successful student in high
school, incoming freshmen need to listen to directions, study and be prepared, and give full effort best
on testing. A successful freshman always follows the directions the first time they are given. Many
teachers like to explain directions only once and so they do not have to say it multiple times. Teachers
do not like to become repetitive with what they are saying and do not want to say the same thing
multiple times. Listening can also keep a student up with everything to include in an assignment. It is
extremely important to receive all the steps for upcoming tests, projects, or other assignments. This
can help attain a high grade in the class. Lastly, it can keep teachers in a good mood for a class. If the
teacher of the class is in a good mood, the class will be much easier for everyone. Teachers love it
when their students follow directions. Listening to directions is an extremely important things about

therefore it is a must that students study and know the information. The material will be much easier
to remember if it is studied. Seeing the information multiple times and outside of the class will help to
remember it and help it to stick to a student s brain, and studying is one of the better ways to do that.
Teachers will always be able to aid students with studying. Study halls, WIN period, and before or
after school would be the greatest times to go in for help with upcoming tests or assignments. Teachers
may be able to help prepare for them. Being prepared for freshman year is one of the keys to doing

The Physiological Comprehension Of Immune Responses
Introduction: In today s society, molecular understanding of functions, like interleukin 2, has
contributed to the physiological comprehension of immune responses in life forms. Interleukin 2 is a
crucial factor in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other immunosuppressant diseases. It binds itself to T
cell receptors which induce naive T cell proliferation and differentiation. This contributes to a plethora
of different cells such as cytotoxic T cells, natural kill cells, and LAK cells, which protect life forms
against infections and/or viruses. In 1993, an immunological analysis was performed by Sadlack and
his colleagues. Knockout mice were used, meaning that their IL 2 gene was removed. This resulted in
an increased amount of T and B cell counts relative to the wild type mice. These researchers thus
suggested that it is an inflammatory regulator. Overall when IL 2 is not present, unregulated
proliferation of T cells increase as mice reach their terminal stage of illness. Now, interleukin 2 is used
in HIV therapies, which helps increase and regulate T cell reactions in immune compromised patients.
Data has been shown that IL 2 increases proliferation and survival of CD4+ T cells in these patients.

How Pentecostalism Is One Of The Major Denomination Of...
utumn Petrolina Hayes, Andrew Anthropology 130 22 February 2016 Pentecostalism Pentecostalism
is one of the major denominations of Protestant Christianity that originated from the Holiness Revival
of the 19th century. The Pentecostal Movement began in Topeka, Kansas at Bethel Bible College,
established by Charles Parham who taught that speaking in tongues was a spiritual gift that
demonstrated as evidence of baptism with the Holy Spirit, a distinct type of baptism experienced in
chapter two of the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost. On January 1st of 1901, Agnes Ozman, a
student at Bethel Bible School, was the first person to speak in tongues after being baptized with The
Holy Spirit. This marks the beginning of the Pentecostal Revival. In 1905, Parham began preaching in
Houston, Texas where he began a smaller bible school. According to Kevin Sack, a journalist for The
New York Times, an African American pastor named William Seymour would attend Parham s
services though he was made to sit outside the room and listen through a cracked door. Parham s
teachings of baptism with the Holy Spirit enveloped Seymour, who took this new theology to Los
Angeles in 1906 where he temporarily pastored a small African American Holiness Church. The
church rejected Seymour s claims on tongues as proof of baptism with The Holy Spirit. The pastor of
the church, Julia Hitchins, was outraged by Seymour s sermon and kicked him out of the church.
Seymour moved in with a friend of his,

Music Appreciation Essay
This was the day I had been dreading. I was participating in the Seattle Young Artists Music Festival,
an event where students share their music with a small class and receive a lesson from the teacher. My
violin teacher and my parents decided that this event would develop my musical skills, so they
registered me with enthusiasm. I, on the other hand, was not so enthusiastic. I had never honestly
enjoyed performing in the past and I was especially nervous about this event knowing that I would
receive a music lesson from an expert violinist after my performance. It did not help to hear stories of
strict, criticizing, and rude teachers from my siblings who had previously done this event either. I
wondered how any good could come from this event. Though only flippantly, I even considered what
would happen if I pretended to be ill or purposely injured my finger. However, before I knew it, the
dreadful day arrived and I realized I would just have to go for it.
I woke up before the sun and groggily prepared to leave. My Mom and my two siblings, Amy and
Aaron, got ready to leave too since Aaron was also performing and Mom and Amy would be
accompanying both of us on the piano. While it was still dark, we boarded a ferry headed for Seattle

Qualities of Effective Leadership
Being a great leader no matter what you may think does not just happen overnight. Leadership is
learned and earned. To be an effective leader you need to know how to find that fine line between
leadership and followership and be able to take the right initiative and precautions to advancing to the
leadership role. As a leader you develop the ability to set yourself aside from the rest of the world in a
way without your followers being left out as Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 1882) said, Do not follow
where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Living with integrity,
leading by example, building a great management team and inspiring employees or soldiers to
greatness are some of the key points in being an effective leader. Most great leaders are passionate
about what they do; they have the ability to communicate to diverse audiences. Leaders should focus
on the people, inspire trust, and have their eyes set on the horizon. Many people confuse management
and leadership. Peter F. Drucker said, Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right
things. Being able to see the difference between being a manager and a leader is also a good
leadership trait.
Is vision a good trait for an effective leader to obtain? The answer is yes. Vision not in the sense of
someone s eyesight but in the sense of how they view things is very important when it comes to the
effectiveness of a good leader. Vision in the mental aspect helps the

Trope Of Shame In Lancelot And Guinevere
Throughout this course, the class has read various pieces of Arthurian literature. Each of these pieces
hold their own contributions in the genre and differentiate both plot and concepts. Most of these
concepts can be labeled as tropes, which are figurative or metaphorical use of a word or expression.
One trope that was found while analyzing the texts was shame, or the painful feeling of humiliation.
The trope of shame is prominent in both the medieval legend Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart and
Natsume Soseki s more modern story, Kairo ko. Both sources emphasizes the shame that is felt by
Lancelot and Guinevere but in two very contrasting ways. These sources can also be compared to the
tale Sir Gawain in the Green Knight, which deals with shame a lesson that can be learned, rather than
a pitiful thing. All three of these Arthurian legends use the trope of shame to shape both the characters
and stories in their own way.
In Chrétien de Troyes Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart, Lancelot s first shameful action is hesitating
after his is offered to ride in the prisoner cart by the dwarf driving it. Chrétien de Troyes writes: At
that, the dwarf continued on his way without slowing down even an instant for the knight, who
hesitated but two steps before climbing in. He would regret this moment of hesitation and be accused
and shamed for it; he would come to consider himself ill used. But Reason, who does not follow Love
s command, told him to beware of getting in, warned and and counseled him not to do anything for
which he might incur disgrace or reproach (177). No matter what decision Lancelot would have made,
he would have been shamed in the end. If Lancelot have no hesitated, he would have been shamed by
the rest of the knightly community for riding the cart despite his mentality. No matter what, Guinevere
would have pressured Lancelot into shame for hesitation or not riding the cart in general.
After Lancelot finds Guinevere, the forbidden lovers have a conversation regarding Lancelot s
adventure. It it revealed that Guinevere knows about Lancelot s two step hesitation to get into the
dwarf s cart and is displeased with his actions. Guinevere replies to Lancelot s question of
displeasement with this:

They were never allowed to join the Marines or the Air Corps, but this changed for the first time

A similar incident happened when a young man tried to enrol for the University of Mississippi, an all

brought to court by the NAACP and won the right for him to enrol. President Kennedy also sent
troops in to protect the young man when he was enrolling but riots broke out ending in 375 people
injured and two dead. The rest of the state universities in the south were slowly desegregated.
In the north, blacks and whites attended different schools because they lived in different parts of the
city or state. The laws to desegregate the schools were not just for the south. So they brought in
bussing. This meant that black children could get the bus to white schools that had been desegregated
so there was a racial balance in the schools. A lot of northern cities resisted this court order, and some
cities even fire bombed the buses. To get around these laws, many white people sent their children to
private schools. Most black children stayed in public schools due to lack of money.
There wasn t just racial segregation in schools. Restaurants and buses are just a couple of the other
places where racial segregation occurred. Racial segregation on public transport was enforced by the
Jim Crow laws. This meant that blacks had to sit at the back of the bus, whites at the front. A black

Mix it. Then you put the cover on with the stick through the cover then clip it with the clothespin so
the stick does not move. Then you put it on the side and let it sit where it will not be hit. Check it daily

Child Recovery
What is the Role of Education in the Recovery of a Child?
Often, when a child is ill or needs behavioral health treatment, education is the last thing on a guardian

doctors and nurses and easing their child s fears during his or her hospital stay.
During and after treatment, the focus is on the child s recovery so they can go back to being a kid:
playing with their friends, enjoying family time, and transitioning back to school.

Many student patients must miss extended periods of school, becoming disconnected from their
education and social life. They may feel that their teachers and friends have forgotten about them.
Some may become depressed and have anxiety about returning to school after treatment. So, it s
important they stay engaged. KidsHealth authors recommend that student patients stay connected via
online social networking sites, email, instant message, text messaging, and talking on the phone with
classmates, friends, and teachers. They also state that staying connected to school bring academic,
cognitive, psychological, and social benefits.
There are numerous reasons why children must be admitted to the hospital for treatment. Some kids
may be battling cancer and need chemo. Others may need to visit the hospital a few days a month for
kidney dialysis. A child with a disability may need regular physical therapy treatment.
On the other side, children who struggle with a mental, social, or behavioral illness, like bipolar
disorder, depression, or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may miss school for extended periods of

Ruth s Role In The Bible
The word Torah can be a difficult word to understand because in various contexts it can refer to
different things. As discussed in Revealing World Religions, the basic concept of the Torah is referring
to the Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. This is where
things are complex because the word Torah can also be used to refer to the entire Jewish bible, or
Tanakh which is another name for the Hebrew Bible. In Jewish tradition, the Talmud is a collection
writings containing civil and religious Jewish laws and traditions. As clearly illustrated by The Talmud
documentary, the traditional rabbinical approach to the Bible is quite different from the one that I
practice directly and ones I am aware of indirectly.

Global C Suite Programme On Corporate Executives Essay
INTRODUCTION
A recent study conducted by IBM under its Global C suite programme on corporate executives
revealed that a comparatively low percentage of New Zealand business hold that they understand their
customers (IBM Global Business Services, 2014). According to the study, only sixteen percent of top
corporate executives (CEOs, CFOs, COOs and other C level executives) in New Zealand believe that
they understand their clients or consumers. The figure is relatively low if compared to the global total
of thirty five percent considering the advance economy of the country. The article also pointed out that
significant efforts will be made to improve New Zealand s overall percentage performance to around
82% in the next 3to 5 years.
The study also introduced a new business model in the social media digital age being the everyone to
everyone or e2e economy. What makes it different from the two major types of e business (Xu
Quaddus, 2010) being business to business (B2B) and business to consumer (B2C) that we have come
to know of is the creation of business ecosystems that focuses on the individual customer, the level of
customer experience and engagement, freedom of movement, highly interactive, transparent and

influence of social media on customer buying decisions are expected to grow exponentially over the
coming years. In order to stay relevant in this fast

Similarly, this article discusses the theme of the complexity of action. This play depicts of how at
times the decision to act is usually influenced not only by coherent considerations, like the need for
inevitability but also by psychological, ethical as well as emotional factors. For instance, Hamlet is
depicted to distrusting the impression that it is even likely to behave in a measured, focused manner.
Like when he acts he prefers to do it in a blind manner, recklessly as well as violently.

Likewise, this journal discusses the mystery of death as depicted in the play Hamlet. In the
repercussion of his dad s death, Hamlet gets obsessed with the notion of demise. All through the play,
he considers demise from awesome various perspectives. He supposes both the profound result of
death, represented in the phantom and the substantial stays of the dead, like the decaying corpses in
the cemetery. And since death in the play is the cause as well as the consequence of vengeance, then it
is intimately tied to the subject of vengeance and justice.

Social Themes In Jane Austen s Pride And Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice is one of the most widely read novel written by Jane Austen. On top of the bold
themes that Austen managed to portray in the novel, it was also rare for females to become writers in
the 18th Century. Back then, feminism was never a topic on the table top but Austen has successfully
blend it, along with other social themes, into the novel in a light hearted manner, surfacing the issue.
In summary, Pride and Prejudice is a beautiful love story set in the late 18th early 19th century
England when man held the economic, social and political power in the patriarchal society. The main
protagonist, Elizabeth Bennetis a witty and highly intelligent lady who is never afraid to speak up for
herself. She met Ftizwilliam Darcy, the son of a well established family and immediately took strong
dislike towards him due to his pride and emphasis on his high social status. As the story proceeds,
despite all the misunderstanding, Elizabeth began to realize that Darcy is not what she initially
perceived him as. Similar to her, Darcy is also a charming young man with ideas of his own and they
eventually married each other after overcoming the prejudice against each other.
As aforementioned, there are various social themes discussed in the novel. The first and most obvious
one is love. Just like any other great love stories of all time, lovers will not get what they want from
the start and they must overcome countless adversities along the way. In this

Descartes Proof That The Mind And The Body
Descartes proof that the Mind and the Body are distinct substances is as follows, First Descartes
asserts that everything that can be clearly and distinctly understood is within the ability to be created
by God as to correspond identically with the way that Descartes understand things in the world. It
follows from this assertion that because Descartes is able to clearly and distinctly understand one thing
apart from one another is enough to make them noticeably different in substance. Descartes follows
this with the notion of the mind, saying that because one is able to possess a clear and distinct
understanding of their self as a distinct and separate substance, which is not extended into the
environment and handles all of the logical thinking. He continues to say that he possesses a clear and
distinct understanding of the body as an extended and unthinking. He finishes with the conclusion that
this demonstrates that the body and the mind are actually distinct form one another.
By saying that they are distinct substances, in Descartes overall argument, means that the mind and
the body are composed primarily of two separate and unique substances and that they are unable to
share properties such as that the body is the corporeal substance that experiences the sensations of the
world, or in other words the body s substance is that of feeling. The mind is an ethereal substance that
is responsible for reason and rationality. They are distinct in that their existence is

The Adoption Of Autonomous Vehicles
2.1 Introduction
There are roughly 250 million registered motor vehicles in the United States (Blanco, 2010). This
corresponds to almost one vehicle for every citizen. According to the Federal
Highway Administration, the average American driver drives almost 40 miles every day (FHA, 2011).
Given how heavily vehicles are used today, especially in the United States, their replacement with
autonomous vehicles could easily have far reaching implications.
The adoption of autonomous vehicles into society could affect a multitude of issues.
Among these issues are safety, cost, productivity, legality, public opinion, and the environment. Each
will be touched upon in this section. It is important to have a general knowledge of these areas in
order to better understand the speed at which autonomous vehicles might be adopted.
We ve chosen these areas specifically because we expect them to be the biggest factors in the adoption
of autonomous vehicles. However, it s important to keep in mind that some of the technologies that
will be discussed are still being developed. Therefore the implications that are dependent on
technologies still being developed can be considered somewhat speculative.
2.2 Safety
One of the major incentives for developing autonomous vehicles is the potential impact on vehicle
safety. In 2009, there were 10.8 million motor vehicle accidents in the US, resulting in 35,900 deaths
(Census 2012). It s estimated that over 90% of all accidents are due to

Cognitive Disorders
1. The four major categories of cognitive disorders are: delirium which is an alteration in
consciousness that manifest and progresses over a relatively short span of time where people have a
decreased cognizance of their surrounding environment; dementia is an on going atrophy of brain
function that is pronounced by damage of memory, bewilderment and inability to focus; amnesia
marked by an indicative loss of memory, against no loss of other cognitive functions that appear in
dementia; there is also an inclusion of other cognitive disorders not particularly specified that may
otherwise not be categorized properly on their own. A broad assortment of factors may lead to
cognitive disorders, that could also encompass other general medical conditions such as brain
infections or head injuries.
Cognitive disorders are normally assessed after physical and neurological inspection. Examples of
these tests would be imaging exams, blood screening, liver function tests and thyroid analysis.
Treatment options vary and depend on what kind of condition appears. Delirium for instance is
normally treated adequately through analysis of the underlying cause, the prognosis however, is not as
positive for patients suffering from dementia or amnesia. Common mental disorders such as
depression, affect cognitive functions, through the process of memory as well perception and problem
solving. As mentioned for the fourth category, other cognitive disorders make up this section.

Symphonie Fantastique Analysis
Symphonie Fantastique Hector Berlioz, the French composer wrote a symphony Symphonie
fantastique in 1830. Symphonie fantastique was the program music of the Romantic period. Program
music is a piece of music with the story to tell. So, the composer showed his soul to the audience by
telling his love story. As a result, it became one of the most important pieces of the early
Romanticism. I find this symphony unusual and exciting because of its history, each movement s
topic, and the Idée fixe. The history of this piece is trilling. The original name is «Épisode de la vie d
un artiste, symphonie fantastique en cinq parties . As a program music, the symphony tells a specific
story. The main characters of the story are Berlioz himself and young and famous actress Harriet
Smithson. The whole Paris observed these dramatical relationships, which were colossal. The
musician wanted to create something great to impress this woman. As a result, he created a music in
which the romantic hero was embodied. However, he was restless, disillusioned, with no idea what to
do with his life. Furthermore, Berlioz himself wrote the text for the program, which told a lot of
details about the plot of the symphony. Besides having a great history, this piece of music also has
spectacular topics of each movement. Altogether, the symphony consists of five movements. Each
movement has its name and program. The first and the last movements are intensive ... Show more

Herzberg had added to the list some physical aspects including salary, physical working conditions,

their absence could interpret to workers who are unsatisfied, unhappy and unproductive, as it is in

for self actualization; they are neither encouraged nor allowed to realize their full potential, which
Spitzer (1995, p. 7) argued could be fatal to the future of an organization. He argued that providing the
staff with an environment of encouragement will make them realize their full potential consequently

The Myth Of Sisyphus By Albert Camus

An Existential Hero
The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus is a symbolic commentary on life s inherent meaning, or more
specifically, the lack thereof and how one may come to terms with their fate. For centuries,
philosophers have pondered upon the idea that there is not an intrinsic meaning in the universe. One
major response to such a belief is Existentialism. The system of beliefs known as Existentialism states
that through a combination of personal responsibility, awareness, and free will, an individual can
formulate their own meaning in a universe lacking one of its own. In Existential literature, characters
are often put into utterly hopeless or meaningless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pluto agreed, however, Sisyphus took advantage of this concordance. Camus wrote: But when he had
seen again the face of this world, enjoyed water and sun, warm stones and the sea, he no longer
wanted to go back to the infernal darkness. , Sisyphus gawked at the Earth s pulchritude and was in
awe. He abandoned his agreement with Pluto and became a stowaway in the world of the living. It
would be vastly unreasonable to assume that Sisyphus did not have a passion for life after taking
measures as those.
Some, when having reached the realization of life s lack of intrinsic meaning and doomed situations,
commit suicide. Others take a different route and choose to live and live fully. Sisyphus, after escaping
death and acquiring a passion for life, chose to live and to do so to the fullest extent. On the topic of
Sisyphus life subsequent to his escape from death, Camus writes: Many years more he lived facing the
curve of the gulf, the sparkling sea, and the smiles of earth. Sisyphus maximizes his time on Earth. He
basks in the elegance Earth has to offer, from the sparkling sea to the curve of the gulf. Sisyphus
indubitably lives to the fullest. In conjunction with doing as such, he lives in the present. Sisyphus
dotes on his present life post escape. He neither reflects on his death, nor is he angsty at his inevitable
wrath Pluto will inflict upon him for his uncooperativeness in their accord.

The War Between America And America
During the time from 1800 1900 America had gone through a series of some tough growing pains. It
was recovering from its first war with Britain and would not be its last battle, for this newly formed
country. The over whelming onslaught of war was just the start of this small country s birth. Within
the 1800 s there were 35 wars in America s history and it was needing to prove its worth by each one.
You will see reasons why a young country had to fight to save itself, what effects these battles had on
America, and the battles that scared America the worst.
America was a young country that had just beaten the British nation, that same power that gave them
the opportunity to become America. Recovering from its wounds with the mother land, America had
to tighten the reigns as the battles with other nations were about to start. America was being groomed
by its founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson to become something greater as he said in a letter to
John Adams, to establish each ward with reading, writing, and arithmetic. (1) Jefferson portraying to
Adams that he wanted this country built on free thinkers and not slaves to the crown. The thought that
would linger in every American during the 1800 s was that they had to fight for the freedom they had
earned. Unlike the French that fought and lost its revolution and went back to a monarchy. (2) With
this great nation it knew it needed great warriors, and the call to arms would be answered by the
United States Marine Corps.

Positive Impact Of Reconstruction
During the reconstruction there were various impacts but were they really a success or failures? In the
1860 s through out the 1870 s the civil war settled some significant national problems, but also created
many more. Slavery was put to an end and the country was reunited however the Union s victory cost
people to lose their lives and lose their property. It was said that the most challenging task was the
future of the four million freed slaves. By 1877 the reconstruction ended due to the pressure by
Southern whites then the former slaves were put into the second class a system of state enforced
segregation and discrimination. The reconstruction was a period following the civil war of rebuilding
the United states. President Lincoln s goal in the Civil War was to hold the nation together. The
Confederacy was destroyed for good. Due to the success and failures of Reconstruction, although the
impact was economically positive for newly freed African Americans because they were able to gain
more opportunities like in the south there were resources, businesses and education , the impacts were
mostly negative politically and socially because they were forced to give up their political power and
they were restricted from many public places. Although many may argue that the effects of the
Reconstruction were negative there were positive impacts that let people have a better living. An

The Hapsburg Valois Wars Of 1494 To 1559
The Hapsburg Valois Wars of 1494 to 1559 are often confused with the Italian Wars. However the
Italian War were a completely different set of wars. The Hapsburg Valois Wars were very much
intertwined with these wars. The latter arose from the instability of the Italian peninsula, which was
divided among a number of vulnerable powers, and also from a new willingness of outside rulers to
intervene. Initially, the most influential was Charles VIII of France (1483 1498), he invaded Italy in
1494, and manage to take over Naples that following March. Charles s success was particularly
achieved due to his advanced equipment. The cannons used iron shot, which allowed smaller
projectiles to achieve the same destructive impact as a larger stone shot. This made for smaller, lighter,

Louise Bourgeois Cell XXV Analysis
Cell XXV (The View of the World of the Jealous Wife) By Louise Bourgeois.
An example of a work of art that I believe exemplifies the best of contemporary practice is Cell XXV
(The View of the World of the Jealous wife), a sculpture by artist Louise Bourgeois (1911 2010).
The sculpture was made in 2001 by the artist as part of her Cell series. The sculpture itself features
three figures, each of them headless, armless and legless and each of them female. The three figures
are encased in a prison cell, or birdcage like structure. On the floor are two large white marble
spheres. Hanging between these two is a mannequin wearing a white dress, on one side, hanging
slightly higher, another torso with just a neck and bust, wears flowery fabric, ... Show more content on

Much of Bourgeois work revolved around her own personal feelings towards her childhood and the
ongoing affair that her father had with her childhood nanny and it would not be difficult to see how
this piece could represent the anger felt by the wife her mother towards both her fathers mistress (the
figure in white in the centre perhaps) and towards him, being represented by the implied phallus
constructed by the spheres and the white figure. The white figure and spheres can also be looked at as
a simultaneous depiction of both the father and his mistress with the Jealous Wife and perhaps the
artist herself depicted as the short torso, looking upon them both with hatred. The clothing worn by the
figures seems to be of importance too. The figure in the middle wears white, as does the short torso, a
colour typically used symbolically in clothing to depict innocence and purity as with wedding dresses
and communion dresses etc, and yet here it seems to have been used with irony, perhaps the artist
laughing at the thought of the people depicted in this sculpture being deemed innocent. The figure in
the blue dress stands out in comparison and is black in colour as well to contrast further the all white
of it s companions. This figure is clearly an outsider, a disapproving observer of what it is witnessing.
Despite its separation from the other figures in the sculpture however, all three are enclosed together
in this cell and closed off from the rest of the world. They remain frighteningly still and trapped.
Perhaps this is a comment on how isolated Bourgeois felt from the rest of the world in her youth.
Perhaps it is a comment by the artist on how she felt her fathers affair took over her whole

English Around Time By Samuel Johnson
English Across Time Natalie Trang

Across time, many people have advocated for the stabilisation of the English language. Samuel
Johnson was a lexicographer who dedicated his life to doing so. He published his dictionary in 1755,
in an effort to prescribe the use of the London dialect of English. However, his aims were not met and
people continued to speak in their various dialects. What Samuel Johnson did not expect was the
unstoppable way in which language evolves. Neither did he realise the timeframe required for ... Show

The people of England in Johnson s time lived segregated lives in their various social classes. The
royals would have had a use for words that the lower class may never have even heard of. It would be
difficult to create one version of English that was current and able to accommodate all the speakers.
The needs of its speakers direct the change in a language. Dr. Samuel Johnson s dictionary was unable
to encapsulate everything that the speakers wanted to express, so they continued to mould the English
language to suit them.
Changes in a language require time for its users to learn how to incorporate it into daily speech and
spread it. For Dr. Johnson s version to become the only version of English, it would require many
speakers to make changes in their speech and writing habits. Before this happened though, the
Industrial revolution came about and brought with it major developments in people s lives. Technical
words such as cylindrical steam press were invented to describe the newly developed technology.
These additions to the speakers lexicons were not limited to technology. The industrial revolution
increased trade and with this, the English borrowed words, such as crinoline , a stiffened petticoat.
Along with neologisms, the semantic meanings of words also broadened in order to cover new uses.
One such word was vacuum, which meant devoid of matter , and later also came to mean a machine
that sucks up

Greek mythological heroes, and Roman mythological heroes share similar trades, however are

Los Rancho Los Cerritos House
On Friday I had the honor to visit the historical Rancho Los Cerritos House; also known as Rancho
Los Cerritos or Casa de los Cerritos, in Long Beach, California, it was the largest and most impressive
adobe residence raised in southern California during the Mexican period. The structure of the house
was built in 1844 by merchant Jonathan Temple, a Yankee pioneer who became a Mexican citizen.
Los Cerritos means the little hills in English. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970. I
wasn t lucky enough to visit this phenomenal and historical place until I took advantage of my history
assignment and I decided to visit Rancho Los Cerritos with the company of some of my friends. On a
Friday morning we took the chance and we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1929, Llewellyn Bixby (Jotham s nephew) bought the property, and made broad redesigns to the
house, including mortar bond covering, another red tiled rooftop, power, plumbing, chimneys, a sun
patio, new floors and a significant part of the landscaping. Llewellyn Bixby passed on in 1942, and the
family sold the house to the City of Long Beach in 1955. The City transformed the house into an
exhibition hall devoted to teaching the general population about California s rancho period, so that the
public can get the chance of exploring this phenomenal and historical site.
After watching the 15 minute video we moved outside of the building and we signed up to visit the
house. During this 5 minutes wait I saw Jean Bixby wedding dress, which she donated; it was a very
beautiful and unique wedding dress, it grabbed my attention, and I kept looking at it figuring its style.
Then we went to see the house. We entered from a big door where there was a left wing, right wing
and the house on the front. On the right wing were the laundry room in which there where two
servants that do the laundry once a week, it takes two full days; one day they do the laundry and then
the next full day they do the ironing. A thing that was really very interesting to know is that for their
dresses and suits they used to wash it once every two years as they take off every individual piece
wash it and then sew it all again together. Then the next room we visited was the food store room

Reflective Writing on Team Work Essay
A Reflective Paper On The Importance On Teamwork Nursing Essay What is a team work? Team
work can be defined as when actions of individuals are brought together for the purpose of a common
goal. Each person in a team puts his efforts to achieve the objectives of large group. Teams make
efforts to achieve the success but not necessarily the success is achieved every time. Within a team
every member plays a role to achieve the team s objectives. These roles add new and important
dimensions to interactions of team members. Bruce Tuckman s team development theory provides a
way to tackle the tasks of making a team through the completion of the project. On the part of the
team every member played an important role to achieve the success at ... Show more content on

When the project is completed the roles of implementers and completer have their own place in a
team. The Belbin theory allows every role to play a secondary role in a team. The secondary role
possesses the second higher skills in results. In this way a role can perform more than one function to
become a secondary role player in a team. In this work I want to reflect the situation taken place
during the last semester to develop and utilize my personal skills needed to maintain the relationships
with other team members. Gibbs (1988) Reflective cycle is used to reflect in an effective way. I am
using this model because it is a recognized framework for my reflection. Gibbs (1988) contains six
stages to complete the cycle which improves my personal skills continuously and learning for the best
practices in future. As Gibbs cycle moves forward the first stage describes the situation where the
team members work together, next stage looks the feelings of members about the work and third stage
involves the analysis of the feelings of team members. The fourth stage is the analysis to make the
sense of experience, 5th stage includes the outcome of team work and the final stage involves the
action plan for the situation if it arose again. This kind of reflection generated the practice knowledge
which assisted me to work with my team members and adapt the new situation during the work. The
team work generated a sense of satisfaction and developed professional practices. My team

Old Market Woman Essay
The Roman statue of the Julio Claudian period, The Marble Statue of Old Woman, more commonly
known as The Old Market Woman, depicts a mature woman of the Hellenistic Age struggling. This
marble sculpture is located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which dates its production within the
first century After Common Era. Given that it is a Roman copy of a Greek work from the second
century Before Common Era, its classification belongs within the Hellenistic period of art. This period
style abandoned idealistic beauty by delving deeply into realism and depicting things as they appear in
real life. In addition, the period explored a much greater sense of emotion while moving away from
the classical heroic and archetypal portrayals as well. Moreover, ... Show more content on

The subject is not at all idealized in any manner, but rather the artist uses realism in such a way that
the statue depicts the woman crudely. This change occurred because as both political and social
changes strayed from the deep rooted Greek societal norms, so did Greek art from idealism. Art of this
age began to indulge in a variance of experiences and an individual s uniqueness. Within this period,
old age was also Feared and mourned beyond wont by the life loving Greeks, whereas age previously
signified wisdom. These themes of old age and the associated misery were existent in many other
works of art in the Hellenistic period. Sculptures such as Myron s Drunken Old Woman, the Marble
Statue of Old Fisherman, and others also heavily equipped pathos and drama as the Old Market
Woman did. The sculptures of the time were constructed to bring out instant emotional reactions. To
bring about this elevated state of emotion, they aimed to depict more diverse states of consciousness
and graver emotions by exaggerating portions of the body

Green Colleges Noel Perrin Summary
Noel Perrin s essay The Greener Campuses: An Idiosyncratic Guide is a compilation of the eleven
most environmentally friendly college in the United States. Noel explains that many colleges may
offer classes on environmental studies, but there are very few colleges that actually do their part in
keeping the earth clean. He adds the fact that our planet is on the brink of permanent degeneration if
action is not taken soon; that is why he is calling out colleges, which are large institutions with large
carbon footprints, to do what they can to help save the planet. The following is Noel s list of colleges
and why he believes they can be considered green schools. Brown University ships all of its food
waste to pig farms; which in tern, feeds the pigs and cuts back on the trash being taken to the dump. ...

Dartmouth College has a considerable amount of environmental classes, but they are losing their edge
with projects like a new anti environmental library. Emory University is known for its large use of
alternative fuels. Michigan as Ann Harbor has purchased a lot of green power and is in the process of
finding more ways to lower their greenhouse emissions. Tulane University has an Environmental Law
Clinic. Two University of California campuses have either enacted solar panels on campus or a large
portion if the student population uses bikes instead of cars as transportation. The University of New
Hampshire has tried to change the mindsets of its students to think and act greener. Oberlin College
and Northland College both built green buildings for environmental studies. Middlebury College has
an almost entire administration that is dedicated to green, sustainable living. Noel created this list to
show that care for the planet should be a factor in a student s college

The Marriage Of Arranged Marriage
For Better or for Worse My parents had a choice to marry for love, but, unfortunately, their parents did
not. Imagine the world where family members or close friends chose your spouse based on their
expectations. Should this be the way to go about marriage, or does this hinder a person s ability to live
for themselves? In India alone, around 90% of marriages are arranged by their families (CNN). They
would choose who ever they believe would best fit the person, but not necessarily love them
(Queano). Although arranged marriage is a custom in many countries, is it the right thing to do?
People deserve the right to choose for themselves whom they will marry. Marriage is about love and
finding the right person that makes you the happiest, rather than someone who s just there for your
benefit. According to Asia Pacific Economic Blog:
An arranged marriage is one where the families have pre decided on a spouse for the child. The two
people getting married often do not know each other, and have no choice in the matter. It is a highly
traditional practice in many Indian and Asian cultures, and has been practiced for centuries. The
debate on this issue is difficult because the views differ greatly depending on your culture. (Economic
Blog )
We the people of America have the freedom to make our own decisions. Unfortunately, this is not the
case for many people worldwide. These people are limited to the choices they are allowed to make. I
believe marriage is a very important stage

Women s Roles During The American Armed Forces
Combat roles are grueling and nerve breaking, with a lot of commitment and endurance required.
Masculinity is the most suited trait for anyone to fit adequately and perform effectively. Mostly, men
fit well in these roles due to their masculinity. However, women too, can perform as equally as
effective as men. The effectiveness and suitability of inclusion of women in major combat roles in the
American Armed forces has faced heated debates, between people who believe that the combat roles
are most suited for men, and those that term these people as sexists and argue that women aren t as
qualified and capable of fighting in war. In essence, women can be as effective as their male
colleagues in these combat roles.
Combat roles in the military and armed forces entail soldiers fighting at the battleground, under the
most adverse conditions, with heavy artillery and other supplies. Combat roles involve endurance and
physical strength, which most women might lack, whereas the opportunity to represent the county at
war needs to be open to all who are willing to sign up as a show of fairness in creation of opportunity.
Feminist proponents want more women included in combat positions and serving at the war front,
whereas opponents of the move, in public discourses, view this as unnecessary since women are
weaker. Personally, I think women should sign up and be allowed to fight just like their male
counterparts. The United States Armed Forces comprises of the Army, the Marine Corps,

The Entanglement Of Opposing Forces In William...
The Entanglement of Opposing Forces When there is light, there is shadow. This is true with William
Shakespeares Macbeth as the main character of the same name is slowly transformed into a
malevolent person that can only be stopped by the light of another character, Macduff. Macbeth and
Macduff rely on each other as opposing forces in the play but cannot coexist because of the parallels
between them. The surge of power to Macbeth through evil turmoil gives purpose and presence to
Macduff s character. Macduff and Macbeth s characters are foils of each other representing two
parallels of initially similar characters. Only one of the characters can survive because of the hatred
created by the contrast between the two. Therefore, one will always persevere over the other. As
Macbeth rises in power, Macduff s role in the play becomes more prominent. Macbeths first major
villainous deed was killing Duncan. In the next scene after the murder, Macduff is introduced to the
audience. In the following quote Macduff has a conversation with Macbeth and his only concern is
going to see the king:
MACDUFF. Is the king stirring, worthy thane?
MACBETH. Not yet.
MACDEFF. He did command me to call timely on him:
I have almost slipp d the hour.
MACBETH. I ll bring you to him.
MACDUFF. I know this is a joyful trouble to you;
But yet tis one.
MACBETH. The labour we delight in physics pain.
This is the door.
MACDUFF. I ll make so bold to call,
For tis my limited service (II.iii.41 46).

  • 3. The Influence Of Copyright On Popular Culture As of the early twenty first century, capitalism has been the dominant economic system in most parts of the world and has had a huge influence on the production of popular culture. Geared towards the generation of profit, a capitalistic economy ensures that individuals and corporations possess the power of creating and distributing wealth, as opposed to the public or the state. In order to maximize profit, as is the main goal for individuals in capitalism, copyright appears to have become one of many tools used by corporations most directly involved in the culture industry. Industries attempted to target people emotionally by creating ad campaigns describing file sharing as the equivalent to theft; however, these were only met with mixed success. The worldwide industry in which Nucor competes had record years of crude steel production in 2010 and 2011. Steel making capacity worldwide was approximately 2,090 million tons in 2011, resulting in a 2011 capacity utilization rate of 80 percent versus just 75 percent in 2010. The demand for steel mill products had grown 5.5 percent annually since 2000, but between 2000 and 2011 there have been periods of both strong and weak demand. Weak demand caused over supplied conditions in the steel industry worldwide and allowed Nucor to expand via acquisition. Steel product segments include the production of steel deck, steel joists ... Steel products are considered commodities and quality can be inconsistent on occasion, for the most part, steel plants turn out products of comparable metallurgical quality. The threat of new entry into the market is moderate. There are several entry barriers to overcome, product differentiation being one of them; however, costs would be the main barrier. The cost of raw materials can be very high since they are usually purchased in large quantities. Minimizing fixed costs can also be very challenging. Competition from substitutes is considered low. There are few substitutes for steel at this time. Steel is used for its strength and durability in auto manufacturing and in construction. As technology advances there are possibilities for alternative materials in the future. Supplier bargaining power is a high to moderate threat. Raw materials can be one of the largest costs for a company so suppliers often have the upper hand. Having a cost effective strategy for the supply of raw materials can have a huge effect on a company s bottom line. Many firms choose to establish a joint venture with ... Values In Ethics Of Care Values and ethics are vital to any organization, Personal values can be defined as concepts or beliefs about desirable end states or behaviours that transcend specific circumstances, guide selection or evaluation of behavior and events, and are ordered by relative importance (Schwartz and Bilsky, 1987). Values convey what is important to us in our lives. We as individuals hold numerous values with varying degrees of importance. Conflicts between personal and professional values are common. Social workers are often faced with situations that bring them face to face with a conflict between their personal values and professional values. Most professions aim to provide basic ethical rules that professionals apply in decision making. These are usually derived from various traditional ethical theories. • 6. Mass Migration to America During the 19th Century This essay will address the reasons as to why there was mass migration to the United States of America during the nineteenth century. As for this topic, the reasons for the mass migration was due to industrialisation and employment and living standards, and thus many migrants traveled to America with the hope of a better life. By saying that the reasons for the mass migration are primarily due to industrialisation and employment and living standards, it is important to emphasize that the migrants destination of America was better than remaining in their origin country. With all of this considered, this essay will examine the roles of industrialisation and employment and living standard in the decision to migrate to the United Sates of America during the nineteenth century. The potential reach of this essay needs to be specified at the outset by identifying the migrants, whom traveled to America. In the nineteenth century, the type of migrants can be broken into two periods, the early part of the century, and the later half of the century. In the first half of the century, the migrants were primarily farmers and artisans from rural areas, who traveled with family, and intended to acquire land and settle permanently, whereas, in contrast, the migrants from the later half of the century were drawn from urban areas with nonagricultural occupations, yet, in comparison, all the migrants were typically unskilled and young, whom had limited schooling and training (Hatton, ... • 7. Myth Functions As A Source Of Expression In Our Lives, Myth functions as a source of expression in our lives, whether it be value, worldview or even how our very own gender roles are impacted. Myth can allow particular behavior in response to how we perceive and deal with the myth itself. If we accept the myth, we could potentially use it to cope with life in general. Though fiction, myth gives our lives this sense of an exterior, or hidden human life that is capable of giving our lives more meaning. Often times, and in the case for this paper, a sense of feminism, the symbolism of the woman warrior speaks as the theme of myth. To first compare this sense of myth into the reality of our daily lives, I d like to first look at Joseph Campbell s theory in which signififies this expression of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Or perhaps, consider the passage here, where Campbell makes it aware that from our dreams, we can begin to learn about ourselves, For example, you may be worried about whether you are going to pass an exam. Then you have a dream of some kind of failure, and you find that failure will be associated with many other failures in your life. They are all piled up together there. Freud says even the most fully expounded dream is not really fully expounded. The dream is an inexhaustible source of spiritual information about yourself. Now the level of dream of will I pass the exam? or Should I marry this girl? that is purely personal. But, on another level, the problem f passing an exam is not simply a personal problem. Everyone has to pass a threshold of some kind. That is an archetypal thing. So there is a basic mythological theme there even though it is a personal dream. These two levels the personal aspect and then the big general problem of which the person s problem is a local example are found in all cultures. For example, everyone has the problem of facing death. This is a standard mystery. From this passage, Campbell gets a bit technical and personal on a different level than we would suggest when we think of mythology. But I enjoy his perspective, how we are so intertwined with our dreams and how our memories can identify us in such a way that we are thrown off of reality. Now lending this ... • 10. The Physiological Comprehension Of Immune Responses Introduction: In today s society, molecular understanding of functions, like interleukin 2, has contributed to the physiological comprehension of immune responses in life forms. Interleukin 2 is a crucial factor in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other immunosuppressant diseases. It binds itself to T cell receptors which induce naive T cell proliferation and differentiation. This contributes to a plethora of different cells such as cytotoxic T cells, natural kill cells, and LAK cells, which protect life forms against infections and/or viruses. In 1993, an immunological analysis was performed by Sadlack and his colleagues. Knockout mice were used, meaning that their IL 2 gene was removed. This resulted in an increased amount of T and B cell counts relative to the wild type mice. These researchers thus suggested that it is an inflammatory regulator. Overall when IL 2 is not present, unregulated proliferation of T cells increase as mice reach their terminal stage of illness. Now, interleukin 2 is used in HIV therapies, which helps increase and regulate T cell reactions in immune compromised patients. Data has been shown that IL 2 increases proliferation and survival of CD4+ T cells in these patients. • 11. How Pentecostalism Is One Of The Major Denomination Of... utumn Petrolina Hayes, Andrew Anthropology 130 22 February 2016 Pentecostalism Pentecostalism is one of the major denominations of Protestant Christianity that originated from the Holiness Revival of the 19th century. The Pentecostal Movement began in Topeka, Kansas at Bethel Bible College, established by Charles Parham who taught that speaking in tongues was a spiritual gift that demonstrated as evidence of baptism with the Holy Spirit, a distinct type of baptism experienced in chapter two of the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost. On January 1st of 1901, Agnes Ozman, a student at Bethel Bible School, was the first person to speak in tongues after being baptized with The Holy Spirit. This marks the beginning of the Pentecostal Revival. In 1905, Parham began preaching in Houston, Texas where he began a smaller bible school. According to Kevin Sack, a journalist for The New York Times, an African American pastor named William Seymour would attend Parham s services though he was made to sit outside the room and listen through a cracked door. Parham s teachings of baptism with the Holy Spirit enveloped Seymour, who took this new theology to Los Angeles in 1906 where he temporarily pastored a small African American Holiness Church. The church rejected Seymour s claims on tongues as proof of baptism with The Holy Spirit. The pastor of the church, Julia Hitchins, was outraged by Seymour s sermon and kicked him out of the church. I was participating in the Seattle Young Artists Music Festival, an event where students share their music with a small class and receive a lesson from the teacher. My violin teacher and my parents decided that this event would develop my musical skills, so they registered me with enthusiasm. I, on the other hand, was not so enthusiastic. I had never honestly enjoyed performing in the past and I was especially nervous about this event knowing that I would receive a music lesson from an expert violinist after my performance. It did not help to hear stories of strict, criticizing, and rude teachers from my siblings who had previously done this event either. I wondered how any good could come from this event. Though only flippantly, I even considered what would happen if I pretended to be ill or purposely injured my finger. However, before I knew it, the dreadful day arrived and I realized I would just have to go for it. I woke up before the sun and groggily prepared to leave. • 13. Qualities of Effective Leadership Being a great leader no matter what you may think does not just happen overnight. Leadership is learned and earned. To be an effective leader you need to know how to find that fine line between leadership and followership and be able to take the right initiative and precautions to advancing to the leadership role. As a leader you develop the ability to set yourself aside from the rest of the world in a way without your followers being left out as Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 1882) said, Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Living with integrity, leading by example, building a great management team and inspiring employees or soldiers to greatness are some of the key points in being an effective leader. Most great leaders are passionate about what they do; they have the ability to communicate to diverse audiences. Leaders should focus on the people, inspire trust, and have their eyes set on the horizon. Many people confuse management and leadership. Peter F. Drucker said, Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things. Being able to see the difference between being a manager and a leader is also a good leadership trait. Is vision a good trait for an effective leader to obtain? The answer is yes. • 14. Trope Of Shame In Lancelot And Guinevere Throughout this course, the class has read various pieces of Arthurian literature. Each of these pieces hold their own contributions in the genre and differentiate both plot and concepts. Most of these concepts can be labeled as tropes, which are figurative or metaphorical use of a word or expression. One trope that was found while analyzing the texts was shame, or the painful feeling of humiliation. The trope of shame is prominent in both the medieval legend Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart and Natsume Soseki s more modern story, Kairo ko. Both sources emphasizes the shame that is felt by Lancelot and Guinevere but in two very contrasting ways. These sources can also be compared to the tale Sir Gawain in the Green Knight, which deals with shame a lesson that can be learned, rather than a pitiful thing. All three of these Arthurian legends use the trope of shame to shape both the characters and stories in their own way. In Chrétien de Troyes Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart, Lancelot s first shameful action is hesitating after his is offered to ride in the prisoner cart by the dwarf driving it. Chrétien de Troyes writes: At that, the dwarf continued on his way without slowing down even an instant for the knight, who hesitated but two steps before climbing in. He would regret this moment of hesitation and be accused and shamed for it; he would come to consider himself ill used. But Reason, who does not follow Love s command, told him to beware of getting in, warned and and counseled him not to do anything for which he might incur disgrace or reproach (177). No matter what decision Lancelot would have made, he would have been shamed in the end. If Lancelot have no hesitated, he would have been shamed by the rest of the knightly community for riding the cart despite his mentality. No matter what, Guinevere would have pressured Lancelot into shame for hesitation or not riding the cart in general. After Lancelot finds Guinevere, the forbidden lovers have a conversation regarding Lancelot s adventure. It it revealed that Guinevere knows about Lancelot s two step hesitation to get into the dwarf s cart and is displeased with his actions. Then you put the cover on with the stick through the cover then clip it with the clothespin so the stick does not move. Then you put it on the side and let it sit where it will not be hit. Check it daily until it is fully formed. Mark down observations. RESULTS: The end result of our project was that the salt formed a crystal before sugar did. On day seven the crystal formation was 2 ½ inches for salt. For sugar it took ten days until it reached 2 ½ inches. Although the crystals did not form on the stick because we messed up it formed around the container therefore that is how we measured the growth. They re focused on the day to day management of their child s care: communicating with doctors and nurses and easing their child s fears during his or her hospital stay. During and after treatment, the focus is on the child s recovery so they can go back to being a kid: playing with their friends, enjoying family time, and transitioning back to school. This is where things are complex because the word Torah can also be used to refer to the entire Jewish bible, or Tanakh which is another name for the Hebrew Bible. On top of the bold themes that Austen managed to portray in the novel, it was also rare for females to become writers in the 18th Century. Back then, feminism was never a topic on the table top but Austen has successfully blend it, along with other social themes, into the novel in a light hearted manner, surfacing the issue. In summary, Pride and Prejudice is a beautiful love story set in the late 18th early 19th century England when man held the economic, social and political power in the patriarchal society. The main protagonist, Elizabeth Bennetis a witty and highly intelligent lady who is never afraid to speak up for herself. She met Ftizwilliam Darcy, the son of a well established family and immediately took strong dislike towards him due to his pride and emphasis on his high social status. As the story proceeds, despite all the misunderstanding, Elizabeth began to realize that Darcy is not what she initially perceived him as. Similar to her, Darcy is also a charming young man with ideas of his own and they eventually married each other after overcoming the prejudice against each other. As aforementioned, there are various social themes discussed in the novel. The first and most obvious one is love. Just like any other great love stories of all time, lovers will not get what they want from the start and they must overcome countless adversities along the way. In this ... • 27. Descartes Proof That The Mind And The Body Descartes proof that the Mind and the Body are distinct substances is as follows, First Descartes asserts that everything that can be clearly and distinctly understood is within the ability to be created by God as to correspond identically with the way that Descartes understand things in the world. It follows from this assertion that because Descartes is able to clearly and distinctly understand one thing apart from one another is enough to make them noticeably different in substance. Descartes follows this with the notion of the mind, saying that because one is able to possess a clear and distinct understanding of their self as a distinct and separate substance, which is not extended into the environment and handles all of the logical thinking. He continues to say that he possesses a clear and distinct understanding of the body as an extended and unthinking. He finishes with the conclusion that this demonstrates that the body and the mind are actually distinct form one another. By saying that they are distinct substances, in Descartes overall argument, means that the mind and the body are composed primarily of two separate and unique substances and that they are unable to share properties such as that the body is the corporeal substance that experiences the sensations of the world, or in other words the body s substance is that of feeling. The mind is an ethereal substance that is responsible for reason and rationality. They are distinct in that their existence is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This corresponds to almost one vehicle for every citizen. According to the Federal Highway Administration, the average American driver drives almost 40 miles every day (FHA, 2011). Given how heavily vehicles are used today, especially in the United States, their replacement with autonomous vehicles could easily have far reaching implications. The adoption of autonomous vehicles into society could affect a multitude of issues. Among these issues are safety, cost, productivity, legality, public opinion, and the environment. Each will be touched upon in this section. It is important to have a general knowledge of these areas in order to better understand the speed at which autonomous vehicles might be adopted. We ve chosen these areas specifically because we expect them to be the biggest factors in the adoption of autonomous vehicles. However, it s important to keep in mind that some of the technologies that will be discussed are still being developed. Therefore the implications that are dependent on technologies still being developed can be considered somewhat speculative. 2.2 Safety One of the major incentives for developing autonomous vehicles is the potential impact on vehicle safety. In 2009, there were 10.8 million motor vehicle accidents in the US, resulting in 35,900 deaths (Census 2012). It s estimated that over 90% of all accidents are due to ... The four major categories of cognitive disorders are: delirium which is an alteration in consciousness that manifest and progresses over a relatively short span of time where people have a decreased cognizance of their surrounding environment; dementia is an on going atrophy of brain function that is pronounced by damage of memory, bewilderment and inability to focus; amnesia marked by an indicative loss of memory, against no loss of other cognitive functions that appear in dementia; there is also an inclusion of other cognitive disorders not particularly specified that may otherwise not be categorized properly on their own. A broad assortment of factors may lead to cognitive disorders, that could also encompass other general medical conditions such as brain infections or head injuries. Cognitive disorders are normally assessed after physical and neurological inspection. Examples of these tests would be imaging exams, blood screening, liver function tests and thyroid analysis. Treatment options vary and depend on what kind of condition appears. Delirium for instance is normally treated adequately through analysis of the underlying cause, the prognosis however, is not as positive for patients suffering from dementia or amnesia. Common mental disorders such as depression, affect cognitive functions, through the process of memory as well perception and problem solving. For centuries, philosophers have pondered upon the idea that there is not an intrinsic meaning in the universe. One major response to such a belief is Existentialism. The sculpture was made in 2001 by the artist as part of her Cell series. The sculpture itself features three figures, each of them headless, armless and legless and each of them female. Much of Bourgeois work revolved around her own personal feelings towards her childhood and the ongoing affair that her father had with her childhood nanny and it would not be difficult to see how this piece could represent the anger felt by the wife her mother towards both her fathers mistress (the figure in white in the centre perhaps) and towards him, being represented by the implied phallus constructed by the spheres and the white figure. The white figure and spheres can also be looked at as a simultaneous depiction of both the father and his mistress with the Jealous Wife and perhaps the artist herself depicted as the short torso, looking upon them both with hatred. The clothing worn by the figures seems to be of importance too. The figure in the middle wears white, as does the short torso, a colour typically used symbolically in clothing to depict innocence and purity as with wedding dresses and communion dresses etc, and yet here it seems to have been used with irony, perhaps the artist laughing at the thought of the people depicted in this sculpture being deemed innocent. The figure in the blue dress stands out in comparison and is black in colour as well to contrast further the all white of it s companions. This figure is clearly an outsider, a disapproving observer of what it is witnessing. Despite its separation from the other figures in the sculpture however, all three are enclosed together in this cell and closed off from the rest of the world. Dr. Samuel Johnson s dictionary was unable to encapsulate everything that the speakers wanted to express, so they continued to mould the English language to suit them. Changes in a language require time for its users to learn how to incorporate it into daily speech and spread it. For Dr. Johnson s version to become the only version of English, it would require many speakers to make changes in their speech and writing habits. Los Rancho Los Cerritos House On Friday I had the honor to visit the historical Rancho Los Cerritos House; also known as Rancho Los Cerritos or Casa de los Cerritos, in Long Beach, California, it was the largest and most impressive adobe residence raised in southern California during the Mexican period. The structure of the house was built in 1844 by merchant Jonathan Temple, a Yankee pioneer who became a Mexican citizen. Los Cerritos means the little hills in English. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970. In 1929, Llewellyn Bixby (Jotham s nephew) bought the property, and made broad redesigns to the house, including mortar bond covering, another red tiled rooftop, power, plumbing, chimneys, a sun patio, new floors and a significant part of the landscaping. Llewellyn Bixby passed on in 1942, and the family sold the house to the City of Long Beach in 1955. The City transformed the house into an exhibition hall devoted to teaching the general population about California s rancho period, so that the public can get the chance of exploring this phenomenal and historical site. After watching the 15 minute video we moved outside of the building and we signed up to visit the house. During this 5 minutes wait I saw Jean Bixby wedding dress, which she donated; it was a very beautiful and unique wedding dress, it grabbed my attention, and I kept looking at it figuring its style. Then we went to see the house. We entered from a big door where there was a left wing, right wing and the house on the front. On the right wing were the laundry room in which there where two servants that do the laundry once a week, it takes two full days; one day they do the laundry and then the next full day they do the ironing. A thing that was really very interesting to know is that for their dresses and suits they used to wash it once every two years as they take off every individual piece wash it and then sew it all again together. • 45. Old Market Woman Essay The Roman statue of the Julio Claudian period, The Marble Statue of Old Woman, more commonly known as The Old Market Woman, depicts a mature woman of the Hellenistic Age struggling. This marble sculpture is located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which dates its production within the first century After Common Era. Given that it is a Roman copy of a Greek work from the second century Before Common Era, its classification belongs within the Hellenistic period of art. This period style abandoned idealistic beauty by delving deeply into realism and depicting things as they appear in real life. In addition, the period explored a much greater sense of emotion while moving away from the classical heroic and archetypal portrayals as well. Moreover, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subject is not at all idealized in any manner, but rather the artist uses realism in such a way that the statue depicts the woman crudely. This change occurred because as both political and social changes strayed from the deep rooted Greek societal norms, so did Greek art from idealism. Art of this age began to indulge in a variance of experiences and an individual s uniqueness. Within this period, old age was also Feared and mourned beyond wont by the life loving Greeks, whereas age previously signified wisdom. These themes of old age and the associated misery were existent in many other works of art in the Hellenistic period. Sculptures such as Myron s Drunken Old Woman, the Marble Statue of Old Fisherman, and others also heavily equipped pathos and drama as the Old Market Woman did. The sculptures of the time were constructed to bring out instant emotional reactions. To bring about this elevated state of emotion, they aimed to depict more diverse states of consciousness and graver emotions by exaggerating portions of the body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Green Colleges Noel Perrin Summary Noel Perrin s essay The Greener Campuses: An Idiosyncratic Guide is a compilation of the eleven most environmentally friendly college in the United States. Noel explains that many colleges may offer classes on environmental studies, but there are very few colleges that actually do their part in keeping the earth clean. He adds the fact that our planet is on the brink of permanent degeneration if action is not taken soon; that is why he is calling out colleges, which are large institutions with large carbon footprints, to do what they can to help save the planet. The following is Noel s list of colleges and why he believes they can be considered green schools. • 47. The Marriage Of Arranged Marriage For Better or for Worse My parents had a choice to marry for love, but, unfortunately, their parents did not. Imagine the world where family members or close friends chose your spouse based on their expectations. Should this be the way to go about marriage, or does this hinder a person s ability to live for themselves? In India alone, around 90% of marriages are arranged by their families (CNN). They would choose who ever they believe would best fit the person, but not necessarily love them (Queano). Although arranged marriage is a custom in many countries, is it the right thing to do? People deserve the right to choose for themselves whom they will marry. Marriage is about love and finding the right person that makes you the happiest, rather than someone who s just there for your benefit. According to Asia Pacific Economic Blog: An arranged marriage is one where the families have pre decided on a spouse for the child. The two people getting married often do not know each other, and have no choice in the matter. It is a highly traditional practice in many Indian and Asian cultures, and has been practiced for centuries. The debate on this issue is difficult because the views differ greatly depending on your culture. (Economic Blog ) We the people of America have the freedom to make our own decisions. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many people worldwide. These people are limited to the choices they are allowed to make. I believe marriage is a very important stage ... • 48. Women s Roles During The American Armed Forces Combat roles are grueling and nerve breaking, with a lot of commitment and endurance required. Masculinity is the most suited trait for anyone to fit adequately and perform effectively. Mostly, men fit well in these roles due to their masculinity. However, women too, can perform as equally as effective as men. The effectiveness and suitability of inclusion of women in major combat roles in the American Armed forces has faced heated debates, between people who believe that the combat roles are most suited for men, and those that term these people as sexists and argue that women aren t as qualified and capable of fighting in war. In essence, women can be as effective as their male colleagues in these combat roles. Combat roles in the military and armed forces entail soldiers fighting at the battleground, under the most adverse conditions, with heavy artillery and other supplies. Combat roles involve endurance and physical strength, which most women might lack, whereas the opportunity to represent the county at war needs to be open to all who are willing to sign up as a show of fairness in creation of opportunity. Feminist proponents want more women included in combat positions and serving at the war front, whereas opponents of the move, in public discourses, view this as unnecessary since women are weaker. Personally, I think women should sign up and be allowed to fight just like their male counterparts. The United States Armed Forces comprises of the Army, the Marine Corps, ... • 49. The Entanglement Of Opposing Forces In William... The Entanglement of Opposing Forces When there is light, there is shadow. This is true with William Shakespeares Macbeth as the main character of the same name is slowly transformed into a malevolent person that can only be stopped by the light of another character, Macduff. Macbeth and Macduff rely on each other as opposing forces in the play but cannot coexist because of the parallels between them. The surge of power to Macbeth through evil turmoil gives purpose and presence to Macduff s character. Macduff and Macbeth s characters are foils of each other representing two parallels of initially similar characters. Only one of the characters can survive because of the hatred created by the contrast between the two. Therefore, one will always persevere over the other. As Macbeth rises in power, Macduff s role in the play becomes more prominent. Macbeths first major villainous deed was killing Duncan. In the next scene after the murder, Macduff is introduced to the audience. In the following quote Macduff has a conversation with Macbeth and his only concern is going to see the king: MACDUFF. Is the king stirring, worthy thane? MACBETH. Not yet. MACDEFF. He did command me to call timely on him: I have almost slipp d the hour. MACBETH. I ll bring you to him. MACDUFF.
