is one of the major denominations of Protestant Christianity that originated from the Holiness Revival
of the 19th century. The Pentecostal Movement began in Topeka, Kansas at Bethel Bible College,
established by Charles Parham who taught that speaking in tongues was a spiritual gift that
demonstrated as evidence of baptism with the Holy Spirit, a distinct type of baptism experienced in
chapter two of the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost. On January 1st of 1901, Agnes Ozman, a
student at Bethel Bible School, was the first person to speak in tongues after being baptized with The
Holy Spirit. This marks the beginning of the Pentecostal Revival. In 1905, Parham began preaching in
Houston, Texas where he began a smaller bible school. According to Kevin Sack, a journalist for The
New York Times, an African American pastor named William Seymour would attend Parham s

Trope Of Shame In Lancelot And Guinevere
Throughout this course, the class has read various pieces of Arthurian literature. Each of these pieces
hold their own contributions in the genre and differentiate both plot and concepts. Most of these
concepts can be labeled as tropes, which are figurative or metaphorical use of a word or expression.
One trope that was found while analyzing the texts was shame, or the painful feeling of humiliation.
The trope of shame is prominent in both the medieval legend Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart and
Natsume Soseki s more modern story, Kairo ko. Both sources emphasizes the shame that is felt by
Lancelot and Guinevere but in two very contrasting ways. These sources can also be compared to the
tale Sir Gawain in the Green Knight, which deals with shame a lesson that can be learned, rather than
a pitiful thing. All three of these Arthurian legends use the trope of shame to shape both the characters
and stories in their own way.
In Chrétien de Troyes Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart, Lancelot s first shameful action is hesitating
after his is offered to ride in the prisoner cart by the dwarf driving it. Chrétien de Troyes writes: At
that, the dwarf continued on his way without slowing down even an instant for the knight, who
hesitated but two steps before climbing in. He would regret this moment of hesitation and be accused
and shamed for it; he would come to consider himself ill used. But Reason, who does not follow Love
s command, told him to beware of getting in, warned and and counseled him not to do anything for
which he might incur disgrace or reproach (177). No matter what decision Lancelot would have made,
he would have been shamed in the end. If Lancelot have no hesitated, he would have been shamed by

RESULTS:
The end result of our project was that the salt formed a crystal before sugar did. On day seven the
crystal formation was 2 ½ inches for salt. For sugar it took ten days until it reached 2 ½ inches.
Although the crystals did not form on the stick because we messed up it formed around the container
therefore that is how we measured the growth.

The sculpture was made in 2001 by the artist as part of her Cell series. The sculpture itself features
three figures, each of them headless, armless and legless and each of them female. The three figures

Much of Bourgeois work revolved around her own personal feelings towards her childhood and the
ongoing affair that her father had with her childhood nanny and it would not be difficult to see how
this piece could represent the anger felt by the wife her mother towards both her fathers mistress (the
figure in white in the centre perhaps) and towards him, being represented by the implied phallus
constructed by the spheres and the white figure. The white figure and spheres can also be looked at as
a simultaneous depiction of both the father and his mistress with the Jealous Wife and perhaps the
artist herself depicted as the short torso, looking upon them both with hatred. The clothing worn by the
figures seems to be of importance too. The figure in the middle wears white, as does the short torso, a
colour typically used symbolically in clothing to depict innocence and purity as with wedding dresses
and communion dresses etc, and yet here it seems to have been used with irony, perhaps the artist
laughing at the thought of the people depicted in this sculpture being deemed innocent. The figure in
the blue dress stands out in comparison and is black in colour as well to contrast further the all white
of it s companions. This figure is clearly an outsider, a disapproving observer of what it is witnessing.
Despite its separation from the other figures in the sculpture however, all three are enclosed together
in this cell and closed off from the rest of the world. They remain frighteningly still and trapped.
Perhaps this is a comment on how isolated Bourgeois felt from the rest of the world in her youth.
Perhaps it is a comment by the artist on how she felt her fathers affair took over her whole

Johnson was a lexicographer who dedicated his life to doing so. He published his dictionary in 1755,
in an effort to prescribe the use of the London dialect of English. However, his aims were not met and

The people of England in Johnson s time lived segregated lives in their various social classes. The
royals would have had a use for words that the lower class may never have even heard of. It would be
difficult to create one version of English that was current and able to accommodate all the speakers.
The needs of its speakers direct the change in a language. Dr. Samuel Johnson s dictionary was unable
to encapsulate everything that the speakers wanted to express, so they continued to mould the English
language to suit them.
Changes in a language require time for its users to learn how to incorporate it into daily speech and
spread it. For Dr. Johnson s version to become the only version of English, it would require many
speakers to make changes in their speech and writing habits. Before this happened though, the
Industrial revolution came about and brought with it major developments in people s lives. Technical
words such as cylindrical steam press were invented to describe the newly developed technology.
These additions to the speakers lexicons were not limited to technology. The industrial revolution
increased trade and with this, the English borrowed words, such as crinoline , a stiffened petticoat.
Along with neologisms, the semantic meanings of words also broadened in order to cover new uses.
One such word was vacuum, which meant devoid of matter , and later also came to mean a machine
that sucks up

Combat roles are grueling and nerve breaking, with a lot of commitment and endurance required.
Masculinity is the most suited trait for anyone to fit adequately and perform effectively. Mostly, men
fit well in these roles due to their masculinity. However, women too, can perform as equally as
effective as men. The effectiveness and suitability of inclusion of women in major combat roles in the
American Armed forces has faced heated debates, between people who believe that the combat roles
are most suited for men, and those that term these people as sexists and argue that women aren t as
qualified and capable of fighting in war. In essence, women can be as effective as their male
colleagues in these combat roles.
Combat roles in the military and armed forces entail soldiers fighting at the battleground, under the
most adverse conditions, with heavy artillery and other supplies. Combat roles involve endurance and

Shakespeares Macbeth as the main character of the same name is slowly transformed into a

between them. The surge of power to Macbeth through evil turmoil gives purpose and presence to
