Gilgamesh brought his family on the boat as well, but he also brought all the craftsmen that helped to
build it, (relg studies). This is a huge difference between the stories. The craftsmen were an added
group that reproduced and passed on their skills. Noah only took his family, relying on God to provide
them with the necessary items that they could not produce. There were not any other people on board.

wide use. Upon the arrival on the mountain top, each man sent out a dove, which returned because it
found no place to land. Then, Gilgamesh sent out a swallow, which also returned. When Gilgamesh

Almost every one writer can say that they are influenced by their childhood and past. Memories flood
back to them as they encounter a similar experience or similar situation in their earlier years. No doubt
a significant factor in their writing, the past from a specific writer s life usually adds more depth and
complexity to their works. Because these previous experiences are from the author s actual life, the
scenes and subjects related to the theme are more accurate and realistic, and may even be more
appealing to read. These past voices may appear either consciously through the author s works, or

Dos Passos first attended school in the District of Colombia. As he grew up, he spent some of his
childhood in Tidewater Virginia. He began attending Choate School where his first published writings
were articles for the Choate School News. Upon completing Choate School at the age of fifteen, he
entered Harvard University in 1912. At Harvard, he continued his journalism by joining the Harvard
Monthly. While at Harvard, he developed a close, long lasting friendship with E.E. Cummings. During
this time at Harvard, the spirit of idealism swept the country. Dos Passos was stirred by ideas of
idealism and began to write short autobiographical tales for the Harvard Monthly, which showed
vague idealism. He later graduated in June of 1916.
Out of college now, Dos Passos choose to volunteer for ambulance duty overseas but his father
rejected his idea. So instead, he decided to make his first long visit to Spain, a country which held
fascination for him all his life, to study architecture. With the death of his father lather in
1917, he joined the Norton Harjes Ambulance Group and sailed for France.
During his tour of duty as an ambulance driver, he collaborated with a friend, Robert Hillyer, on
alternate chapters of a novel, and after several revisions, it became One Man s Initiation 1917. This
book was based largely on his own wartime experiences in France and Italy. His second

Established in 1944 by Donald Watson, modern day veganism has become an increasingly popular
lifestyle through recent decades. Veganism is a very strict diet. It involves a strong commitment and
can also restrict certain fashion statements in some way or form. Vegans avoid any consumption of
any [animal related food or fabric that has been fabricated with animal skin]. Although many, do not
see the vegan choice as a reasonable way to a healthy living, many Americans have seen their diet
change being influenced by popular artists, such as Beyoncé, who endorse the idea of veganism. As
mentioned by Elizabeth Cherry and her concept of the diffusion between cultural participation
function and support veganism, this paper will be demonstrate how the music industry has inclined
many Americans to dramatically transition their diet as omnivores to vegans. Cherry believes that
there are two groups of vegans; those in the punk subculture and those who were not and investigates
how they defined and practiced veganism differently (Cherry 1). Becoming a vegan punk according to
Cherry, is seen to describe a state of mind and a willingness to change society more than a sartorial
display, this is accomplished through a DIY ethic, characterized by independent bands, record labels,
and book presses, as well as a politically progressive way of living (Cherry 5). With this in mind the
reader can infer that veganism can be tied in with the modern hipster and the industrial musical
culture.

A Rich, Full Life Everyone s interpretation of a full, rich life differs. One person might say that
traveling the world or exploring new places is what makes a life full and rich, while another might say
that a full, rich life is having great accomplishments or experiencing as many new things as they can.
Each person will view the answer to this question differently simply because each person is different.
Everyone has grown up with vastly diverse experiences. No two people s lives are the same. No two
people have the same likes and dislikes, and because of this, everyone has a particular set of things
they deem make their lives rich and full. The definition, according to the Webster Dictionary, of a full,
rich life, according to these three words, apply to everyone. The definition, of full is, rich in
experience. Rich means, having high value or quality, and life is, the sequence of physical and mental
experiences that make up the existence of an individual (Webster Dictionary). These definitions do not
say that a full, rich life has to be made up of any certain experiences or activities. They only say that it
needs to have experiences that have high value or quality to the person themself. For example, my

As Gustave Flaubert wrote the novel Madame Bovary, he took special care to examine the relationship
between literature and the effect on its readers. His heroine Emma absorbs poetry and novels as
though they were instructions for her emotional behavior. When her mother dies, she looks to poetry
to decide what degree of mourning is adequate; when she becomes adulterous she thinks immediately
how she is like the women in literature that she has read about. In one scene, Emma is with her second
lover, Leon, rowing in a boat, and she begins to sing several lines from the poem Le Lac by the

lines, though they seem appropriate in the moment, barely scratch the surface of the poem s meaning.
Lamartine wrote Le Lac about Madame Julie Charles, a woman that he took with him one summer to
vacation at the Lake Bourget. Lemartine fell passionately in love with Mme Charles. However, the
following winter Charles fell ill and passed away, never to return to the lake. The poem discusses the
happy memories of the summer, but that is not its primary purpose. Mme Charles death forces
Lamartine to recognize the constant and continual passing of time, a theme that is very present in Le
Lac . More specifically, Lamartine discusses the inevitable end of happy moments, such as the ones he
shared with Charles. He begs time to Suspendez votre course! / Laissez nous savourerer les rapides
delices / de plus beaux des nos jours! (31 31). Throughout Le Lac, the death of Mme Charles is always
forefront. It is her death that inspires the poet to revisit the lake, and it is her death that causes the
realization of the passing of time. Although her actual death is only briefly referenced at the beginning
of the poem when Lamartine comments on des flots cheris qu elle devait / revoir (7 8), the idea of
death remains present throughout the entire work. It is Mme Charles passing that spurs
